Clearly this is a place to come for the music. The menu is nothing to speak home about, and the signature biscuits were nothing memorable. The music was on the loud side, especially when the percussionist got going. We were here when Big Daddy Cade was playing a tribute to B.B.King. I liked the band more than Cade himself, but overall it was OK.

Seriously cannot recommend this place highly enough! The food was fantastic, I had southern fried chicken and my girlfriend had ribs, both excellent. The service was great, great cocktails, its not cheap here but I wouldn't say it was expensive either, we were here all night, starters, main meal and countless cocktails came to around $150 for both of us. We traveled America for just over 2 weeks visiting New York, San Fran, LA and Vegas and this was the best night of our trip. Maybe we got lucky with a great band too but I strongly recommend this place for a great time.

I saw Lil' Ed and the Imperials here. He put on a great show. The venue is small and intimate, which allows for the audience to interact with the performers. Food, service and drinks were very good. I recommend the beef brisket.

Wandered in just as the billed band was due to start on a Monday night. Felt really bad for the guys to be just 2 of 10 people who paid $12/pp plus dinner for the band. And they were really good : standard jazz plus original songs and guests who jammed in with them. We easily could have stayed another 3hours. The food was ok, Billed as New Orleans-like but having just been there- NOT! but tasty and not ridiculously expensive. Catfish po'boy was fresh and flavorful. Peppered brisket was a solid good as well. Drinks city-wide seem set a $7. Berry cobbler was smaller than anticipated but also very good. Music definitely better than the food and the atmosphere is probably better with more people in the room!

Biscuits and Blues is a great place to hear live independent blues acts while having a decent meal (or not, if you prefer to just listen). The menu veers toward Southern cuisine, but even a health conscious diner like me can find acceptable choices, such as the blackened catfish with succotash, and maybe a side of sauteed asparagus. Staff is hardworking and courteous, sight lines are great from anywhere within the club, and the setting is intimate and cozy. Pick a performer you like or just take a chance and odds are in your favor you'll have a great time.

Great Blues night! Nice band, good southern food. Jambalaya and BBQ ribs were excellent. Service was a bit slow but the place was fully packed and the music was good so we could wait. Highly recommended. Just $22 for the show was definitely reasonable. You need to book it ahead.

This was our first time at this club. We chose the late show and had dinner elsewhere. But the food we did see looked very southern. The band was wonderful. The atmosphere is set up perfectly. The overall experience was a wonderful one. Will definitely look for future shows.

First, everyone knows that "cozy", when used with a music club, is a euphemism for "really, really loud." The front desk offers earplugs; I recommend you take them. The menu is basic Southern - ribs, fried chicken, catfish, all of which were above average and fairly priced. Not much here, though, for the calorie conscious. Drinks and beer menu are quite good and service is excellent. The food's not the point, though, the music is, and what we heard was superb blues. Acts are changed every night; I wish we had the time to go to a second, or third, performance. There are also cocktail sets if you don't want dinner here.

Not too far to walk from Union Square area you will find this gem! Get your tickets for the show there walk down the steps to your table and sit back and enjoy the reasonably priced cocktails and great food and excellent music. We enjoyed the experience and would go back again for sure! Don't leave without tasting the biscuits and the fried chicken of course.

Good show, great service, average food. All seats are great to see the show. Ordered the meatloaf dinner and the jambalaya, both were adequate. 3 cocktails, 2 meatloaf dinners, and one jambalaya came to $130ish before tip.

I was here several years ago,and it was outstanding- last night however, the food was awful and the service was even worse. So they are called " Biscuit & Blues" ... but the biscuits were so bad I ate 1/2 of one- disgusted!! The Cesar salad was ok, but the grilled chicken tasted like microwaved version of chicken. Grilled? Maybe it was grilled at the factory and then frozen... Our waitress was rude, and didn't remember all of our order, never came back to see if we needed anything- vanished until the end of the night to collect the money- we used cash- and she took it without opening it, said " thanks" and walked away, I had to stand up and tell her I wanted change back, and it took her about 10 mins to come back with the change. Now the music part was fine, a Blues band from Canada- but a very short set for $15 each. About 1 hour and 10 mins. So overall not a great place and I would never go back-

We saw two mid week acts, great venue, southern style food and beers. Only negative was the lighting for reading the drinks list and menu was poor. Would have loved to be able to attend on the w/e to see the place full and really bopping.

First appearance of the outside looks like an old run down theatre so I am wondering if I made a mistake. Went in and was told to go to the basement?? Down there we were blown away by the cutest blues club ever. I could see Billie Holiday singing here. We saw Lucky Peterson....he was great! The food was ok but I would not go back for the food but I will go back because I love the place!

Good evening of music. Bought the CD. Attentive staff ensuring drinks were flowing. Would recommend for an evening in SF;

Fun time all around! Great performance and energy from Lucky Peterson and the band. Delicious food, from the corn and shrimp fritters to the Cajun catfish. Loved it all.

This was our first time to San Fran and wanted a night out with music and this place delivered. The food was fantastic, drinks were tasty and strong, and the music was fantastic. This was a memorable evening in San Francisco.

My kids, teens, love blues and jazz. Unfortunately "that" music has be relegated to bars and clubs that don't let anyone under the age of 21 in. Biscuits and Blues was an exception. The early show is all ages. The act, Eddie Neon, that played, while not nationally known, was good. The cover was $15 per person which was on par with most venues that feature local bands. The menu features souther cuisine was good. The jambalaya and étouffée were ok, but I am biased that finding real New Orleans cooking outside of Louisiana is nearly impossible. However, the fried chicken and pepper brisket were outstanding. The prices were around $20 for the entrées. If you like blues and southern cooking it is worth it and it's a good way to get your teens exposed to one of Americas original music forms.

it's more a blues club where you can eat rather than a real restaurant. Food is good but not special. Music is special!Food is typical from Louisiana or the south generally; they also serve cocktals. a good place where spend an evening listening at very good music whilst eating. So 3 stars for food, 5 for music= 4 stars very good. You must reserve with credit card. They only have about 120-150 seats.

We were walking back from Union Square and passed by this club. They have live music most nights. That night we walked to see the 7:00 show. $15.00 cover charge. It was amazing! The venue is small and intimate. The service was great and the food was yummy. Definitely would return.

Great venue with pretty decent food. Earl Thomas is an excellent performer and because they do serve food, we were allowed to bring our 10 yr old daughter! Never too early to start the kids into live music!!

Situated one block from Union Square, Biscuits and Blues is a great gem of a venue. It is an intimate blues club, with superb food. We pre-booked online for an early show. Great selection of drinks, but the surprise is that the food is really, really good. My wife had cajun jambalaya, whilst I had blackened Cajun catfish and sackotash. Tasty. Being so intimate you are very close to the band. On this occasion the act was Shawn Holt and The Teardrops, a really cookin' blues band. Sound was great and the interaction with the audience was good. Check them out on ITunes. A fantastic night

Just what I imagined a blues bar would be like. The Cobb salad was great, too much for me to eat, my husband found his beef dish a little too peppery, but still delicious. Both enjoyed the biscuits with honey. Music was foot stomping good. All in all, a great way to finish our San Franciscan stay.

We spent a night of blues and good jazz, familiar and cozy atmosphere in the center of San Francisco, short but good wine list, fresh cesar salad.

Just happened in on this place looking for music and we had the opportunity to hear a ska band. Loved it! Great venue. Small venue with a big sound. Fun times!!

Met friends here for a performance and was very pleased. The sound system was good (unlike some other venues) and we really enjoyed the performance. Parking in the area was available at Union Square and the just a short walk. Lots of interesting people to observe in the area. Will return.

This is more a bar than a restaurant. The food was pretty good even though the menu was limited. Southern style food is not my favorite but the meal was cooked well and I would eat here again. The main reason we went there was we are big Blues fans and we saw Tommy Castro while we were there and he was fantastic! I got a chance to chat with him and asked him to do a shout out to my husband for his 50th which we were celebrating that day....and he did! If you like live music and love the Blues.....this is the place!

They have regular shows twice a night in their concert venue but they also have a regular bar upstairs with a house blues band that is really fun. There is a $10 cover and the drinks aren't cheap but the food is good and you get to listen to great music.

We went here for a night out and it was a great place they had a great band playing but it was quite empty. We ate here and the food was lovely the biscuits were beautiful but I thought the night was very expensive for what we had.

I booked this place in advance of our visit to San Francisco. We had an excellent night watching and listening to some great performers lead by Alvon Johnson. Despite mixed reviews, we found the food to be excellent and good value for money. The setting is intimate and I can't imagine there's a bad seat in the house. Our waitress was efficient, friendly and happy to explain things on the menu. I would thoroughly recommend this place for an all round great night out.

Perfect Blues venue. Small, intimate, dark, smoke-free. Acoustics great. Every seat very close to band. Great music every time I've been. Acts that don't have big "brand name" have been great, talented musicians. The southern style menu is fun but food is just average - but it's nice to be able to dine while listening, if you want.

First off, if you make a reservation on Open Table it doesn't not tell you that there is a cover charge to enter the restaurant should a band be playing that night. The cover the night we went was $20 per person. Once getting over the shock of paying a cover just to have the right to order food we met our waiter who was way to eager to forget that we were there. We ordered our drinks and mine drink came without the lemon I ordered and the waiter said he would be right back with it. Cue the arrival of our main meal and still no lemon. I asked again and they came right away. When the waiter came back I asked if he could check what oil the fried chicken was cooked in. My husband has a severe allergic reaction to peanuts so before I shared the dish I wanted to know for sure. The waiter said he was unsure and would be right back. This did not happen and after five minutes I asked the bartender who also couldn't answer me with confidence. After this experience our waiter never came back again. Instead he tended to all the other clientèle, mainly the drinkers. I heard him ask another table if they wanted dessert. This was never offered to us. After asking for the check four times we finally got it. Besides the waiter issues there are some other things you should know. Once the band goes on stage you can say goodbye to the lights as they are all dimmed. This makes eating food hard, especially if you are trying to avoid bones in the chicken or the fish. Secondly, the food is ridiculously over priced. For eight pieces of asparagus it cost $6 - I could have just bought three bunches at the price and would have if we weren't travelling. A diet coke was $4!!!! Something that wasn't revealed to me until the bill came since they didn't have it listed on a menu. The price of the entrées would be acceptable if you didn't have to pay so much for the cover. For a company which has biscuits in there name I would think they would provide a bread basket with biscuits. No such luck, you had to pay for those too. The other problem we had was the music. Though it was fabulous the volume was way to loud. It started at a comfortable level and then got louder as the musicians cranked the volume. So much so that you could hear the feedback of the instruments. Make sure to bring earplugs.

We went to this restaurant to hear a blues singer/guitar player. He was great, as was our dinner. After having a big lunch we decided to split the mac n cheese croquette, which was a coated, deep fried macaroni and cheese patty and the Southern fried chicken dinner. With three piece sand two sides this was more than enough food. All taste just like home and was presently nicely but our attentive waiter. Great place in the city to eat southern food and hear some great blues for a reasonable price.

We went to the Stevie Ray Vaughn show what a great night we went early so we could have a meal before the show. A great meal and the beverage list was good. The show went for 1 hr and was continuous what a great way to spend an evening. There are two sessions per evenng.

This is a really, really good live-music club (mostly Blues, but with other genres mixed in). Very good sound system in a intimate setting with a large stage. Tables are very close together, typical of music clubs everywhere. Adding to the atmosphere, the club is in a downstairs space. Performance prices are very reasonable. As an added bonus, the food is really very good. Not just very good for a music club, but good regardless of the venue. The menu is limited, and is fully tilted to Southern and New Orleans items. Wife and I cannot vouch for all the menu offerings as we tend to order our favorites every visit: Fried chicken (1/2 - perfectly fried golden crisp outside and moist and tender inside) w/ mashed potatoes & gravy and a crisp and nicely balanced coleslaw; Gumbo (again, nicely balanced) and a generous serving (easily shared) of Caesar salad (fresh, crisp romaine with an only okay dressing). A musician friend, who plays there often (and, maybe even more food-critical than wife and me) has tried most of the rest of the menu and gives it a "thumbs up". Prices are reasonable for a music club (The 1/2 chicken dinner is $21. Gumbo is $11. Caesar salad is $9). Full bar with a limited wine list. Wine list has some decent options. Mark-ups are a bit on the high side compared to a good casual restaurant in San Francisco. But, for a live-music club of this caliber, charging a moderate cover charge, wine pricing is actually quite restrained (e.g. A 2013 Napa Valley Saint Supery Sauvignon Blanc is $45). I give Biscuits & Blues five stars overall even though the food, if served at a stand-alone restaurant in SF would only rate 3 1/2 - 4 stars (not to shabby given the competition in San Francisco). But, the overall experience of a wonderful live-music venue, top quality performances, reasonable pricing, and fresh and well-prepared food makes for a five-star evening.

This place is a little sketchy from the outside, but we went there at the suggestion of the front desk staff at our hotel. There is a cover charge to enter and the bar / act is in the basement. It tends to be loud and the place is "intimate." The act I have to say was quite good and we very much enjoyed their "blues" performance. The drinks, service and ambiance are as I had expected which was not very good. You are there for the band and if you focus on that, you may find yourself pleasantly surprised like we did and have a good time. Very close to Union Square so the location is a plus.

Probably the only place in downtown to find good blues and nice dining on weekdays. Be there early enough to get good places from an intimate club. While visiting, James Armstrong was giving his performance on his promo for the disc "Blues has been good to me". Nice stuff from this "two fingered blues quitarist". Hot tiger prawns were excellent, 12 pieces highly recommended for seafood lovers.

We went to see a great Memphis blues band, Ghost Town Blues Band on September 30th at this very nice venue and were pleasantly surprised by the great meal we received prior. We arrived early and got great seats. We ordered cocktails and dinner. The roasted chicken with red potato mash were excellent. We ordered the spinach salad which had an excellent dressing mixed with it. If you order only their famous biscuits, you'll be quite pleased. This is a great blues venue for seating and listening. Ghost Town Blues Band is one of the best blues band around. If you get an opportunity to see GTBB, don't miss them. We recommend, Biscuits and Blues. G&D

I got the Southern Fried Chicken entree and it was delicious. The bartenders kept me company as I was a solo traveller. Didn't get there names, but if you worked the evening upstairs on Saturday, July 28 thanks for the company and the convo.

Went to this club to hear Lavay Smith and the Red Hot Skillet Lickers. Had a little trouble trying to make reservations because we only wanted to see the show and have drinks. After paying the cover we went downstairs where the staircase was covered with autographed pics of famous blues musicians. When we arrived the hostess seated us in the dining section where it was very comfortable to watch and listen to the band. After the show the band members mingled with the crowd. During this time the staff even invited us to stay for the second show, wish I could have.

We were looking for a reasonably priced music experience that started around dinner-time. We found yummy food (the ribs were so meaty!), good beer on draft, and a great blues band performance. The staff was friendly as well. It was a great night out!

The waiter was not so good and the food is ok, nothing special. The show is awesome blues experience !

Saw a great blues, Jazz band and were allowed to stay on for the second set, very reasonable entrance fee, good variety and quality of food and good waitress service. recommended.

Loved the small nightclub feeling, dinner was good, Jambalaya and corn and shrimp fritters. the blues music made it feel like stepping back in time. We enjoyed it. The cover charge was a little high. But still a good evening.

Biscuits and Blues is a great small venue to hear live music. The food is wonderful with a nice variety of selections. The waitstaff were attentive and friendly. The band, Jason King Live, was outstanding! Great evening with friends!

Had dinner and a very good blues performance which made for a great evening. Arrived at 6:45 for the 7:30 show which allowed us time for dinner first. I had fried chicken and my wife had ribs, both very good. We also each had a biscuit and they were great. Dinner was followed by a top notch blues performance. Truly a fun evening.

A trip to San Francisco wouldn’t be complete without taking in at least a jazz or a blues performance. A city known for great music and the iconic musicians. We found both at the Biscuits and Blues. This was my girl friend's second time to the B & B. The first visit for her wasn't very memorable and according to her, she didn’t leave with much of an impression. Maybe she hadn't quite appreciate the blues at the time as much as she appreciated and loved jazz music or it could very well be the company she was with? However, this time was different. We both gained a whole new appreciation for the Blues and I could see her eyes light up with excitement throughout the night. It was a Sunday evening after watching a splendid revue show, Beach Blanket Babylon, at the Fugazi Club when we decided to go to the B & B. If only we knew what was waiting for us that particular night at the B & B, we would've definitely have gone there much earlier. Instead, we were wandering around downtown checking for jazz clubs on our smart phones and ended up sipping wine at Scala's Bistro. We were recommended by the concierge at the Sir Francis Hotel to a popular Jazz bar just around the corner from where we were. "Fortunately", there were no band performing that night so the lady at the counter told us about B & B. We quickly made our way there hoping to catch the last set. There was an entrance fee of $20 per person, which I thought was quite reasonable in comparison to other major Jazz or Blues cities around the world. We didn’t know it at first but we were lucky enough to have Alvon Johnson and his marvellous band performing that night. Only days later did we find out through the internet that Alvon Johnson is one of the best internationally well known musician, singer, and entertainer in the Blues genre. In fact, he’s been voted a recipient of many remarkable Blues awards which included the Best Male Blues Artist from the Black Music Association & Academy Of America in 2015. We were witnessing a proud legend and didn't know it at the time. What a treat he gave us and Alvon played the crowd like a master technician. Truly a pure entertainer. The B & B was located in a basement of a building near Union Square. I was instantly reminded of the classic Blues joints you see in the old movies. The ambiance was exactly how I would picture a Blues club to be. The stage was not overly big resembling the speakeasy clubs from the old prohibition days. Silhouette of people sitting in front of the stage just added more to the experience and nostalgia. There were booths on both sides of us to accommodate larger groups. B & B definitely brought us back to the past that night where we got to experience great Blues and talented musicians playing to a crowd of music lovers. We couldn't resist ordering the fresh and delicious Drake's Bay oysters and duck ragout rigatoni at Scala's Bistro. So we decided to grab something light at the B & B. We ordered the all time favourite spicy buffalo wings with bbq & ranch dressing, it was finger-licking good! For an informal dining place, the food was surprisingly tasty. The spinach salad tossed in a honey mustard dressing with roasted almond slices was fresh, tangy and the almonds brought a nice texture to the dish. The parmesan cheese and grilled chicken was so appetising that we couldn't resist ordering a second plate! Because we ordered some food and our table was quite small, we pulled together the empty table next to us to create more space. Our server (John) was quick to remind us that the table was to be placed back to its original position if new customers were to be seated there. He could’ve been a bit more accommodating and used a less objectionable tone seeing that the club was more then half empty. Once the band finished their final set for the night, He became somewhat robotic and efficiently started to clear as many tables as fast as he could. It was obvious that he wanted to get rid of his customers by giving everyone their bill without requesting it. At that point, we didn't bother too much with him until he showed us a bit of an attitude after we paid the bill and saw that we "only" tipped 18% of the nett amount not on the gross amount. I had always understood that tipping was an act of courtesy reflecting the level of service provided, not expected. We were quite frustrated with the tipping policies in the state. Somehow, subconsciously we were being pressured into tipping regardless of how good the service was. Every bill we got at the restaurants we dined at had a pre-calculated amount of the suggested gratuity stated at bottom of the receipt starting at 18%, 20% and 22% of the gross amount. I am a strong believer in tipping and rewarding good service but this went too far. I felt the service at the B & B was weak at best and we had to face a server who obviously didn't like his job but expected to be rewarded with the top of the tipping chart for doing it poorly. Regardless of the unhappiness with his life, we continued to enjoy the music and food. The B & B was the perfect place to end our great evening and after that night it was hard to find another place to top it. We were hooked!

When going to a place for a dinner and music usually one or the other is good. In this place both were great. Paula Harris and the Monsters of Blues were playing. Excellent jazz/blues. We dined southern fare and it was really good.

Great Night .. Food was lovely . be careful you don't order too much .. huge portions. The live band was brilliant and my partner remembered the lead singer from years ago back in the 70s .. Highly recommend this restaurant .

My wife and I finally made it to Biscuits and Blues which has been on our "we really oughta check it out list" for a long time. Why do we only go to blues clubs when we visit Chicago or New Orleans when B&B is right across the Bay? We had a great time listening to legendary slide guitar blues master, Sonny Rhodes and enjoyed jambalaya, biscuits and beers. The music was great, the food was tasty (not NOLA quality, but good) , the beer cold, and the house speciality biscuits with honey flavored butter are worth straying from the diet. Service was friendly and efficient. Good sight lines and acoustics. Visiting SF? Check it out. I'm glad we did. Now maybe, after 30+ years in the Bay Area, we'll finally visit Alcatraz.

No doubt about it, Biscuits and Blues is a fantastic place to hear real blues in San Francisco. Ticket price ($24) was reasonable. It's important to note though, if you are a single or even a couple, you should not count on getting your own table. The bar's business model is to stuff as many people as possible into the room, which means that you may be seated with another party or you can sit at the bar (about 10-12 seats). If you do sit a table during the "dinner" show, you must buy dinner as well. Just factor this in when making your plans. The food is okay, and a bit pricey, as are the drinks. Service at the bar was very good. The bartender kept a good eye on those of us sitting there, in addition to making drinks for the house.

During a few nights in s.f. recently, we decided to go to watch some blues at Biscuits and Blues because of their catchy name. The venue was downstairs which was nice. The drinks were very good as well as the food. I had the fried chicken and my son had the catfish. Had to get some biscuits which did not disappoint. Fluffy and warm. I don't remember the bands name but they were very good. Can't wait to go back.

Biscuits & Blues is a basement music venue/restaurant one block west of Union Square. It's small enough that every seat is a good one for watching and listening. The musicians and groups are mostly "B-level" blues performers from across the country, as well as the Bay Area. I say "B-level" only because they're not world-famous -- definitely NOT because they're mediocre. I've been there a couple of dozen times over the years and I've never seen a group I didn't like. There are small tables in the center in front of the stage, booths on each side, and a bar in the back. The food is not great but pretty good -- the southern-style menu offers fried chicken, catfish, collard greens, gumbo, and of course biscuits. They usually have two shows per night, the first at 7 p.m. and the second at 9:30. You can make reservations on their website, where you can also check out the lineup and watch videos of upcoming acts. It's a good way to decide when you want to go and who you want to see. Biscuits & Blues is definitely worth a visit...or two or three.

Maybe we just got it on the wrong night, but we were expecting something totally different, what we did get though was good, lots of jamming going on, but not that sexy sultry blues feeling we were hoping for. Great meals.....

It was great experience to visit Biscuits & Blues, listen very enthusiastic blues band and enjoy meal. I can not say that it is the best cuisine but good enough, but I would say that this place has very joyful atmosphere.

My husband and I went to enjoy some music. It surpassed our expectations. The group gave a great performance and it was a nice relaxing fun night. Con: I ordered a salad and two fruit flies we're on it. They took it back n did not charge me but I could not make myself eat there. Nevertheless the service was nIce m friendly. Great place.

Being from the South finding a spot in San Francisco hyped to be Southern/Cajun cooking with live music seemed like wishful thinking. However, my wife & I were pleasantly surprised! The music was outstanding (even bought the CD, which we rarely do)! The food was better than expected but the service was somewhat slow even on a poky Sunday night.

Blues and Biscuits is a culinary experience not to be missed. Tickets for the floor show were ordered in advance. My dinner companions and I arrived an hour and a half before the first show and were able to select a table close to the band. Two of us ordered the shrimp and grits entrée with a side of collard greens while our other companion chose barbecue ribs. The grits were creamy and the shrimp was cooked to perfection. I sampled my companion's barbecue ribs, which also were delicious and practically fell off the fork. My drink, a Mississippi tea was wonderful. Whenever bread pudding is offered on the dessert menu, I always sample the offering. True to form, I ordered bread pudding for dessert. While it was tasty it was no match for my favorite bread pudding prepared at a small Massachusetts restaurant. The 4-man blues show was AWESOME. For more than an hour, the audience was treated to a top shelf performance. Unfortunately, I'm not an audiophile so I don't remember the name of the group. I would have loved to purchase their CD (offered at the main desk on the street level) but a healthy line of patrons had the same idea. I yielded to the wishes of my two, very tired companions and skipped the line.

Went to Biscuit & Blues, jazz band that played was really good and entertaining. Cover charge was reasonably priced. Drinks were good.

A fabulously intimate venue with an awesome lineup of acts. I happened to be there when Vanessa Collier Blues Band were playing and they were marvellous. Found Biscuits & Blues online and it was also recommended by a local. Big ups to the wait staff. Great service for being seated, to order talking all the way to bill paying. I took up the wait staff's recommendation of corn & shrimp fritters and the southern fried chicken, and was so glad I did. They all went down great with a pint of 21st Amendment APA. I also went on my own and was seated with another visitor to San Francisco.

I'm from St. Louis and used to travel frequently in Arkansas and Tennessee so I've had my share of comfort food. My co-worker and I had the pulled pork and fried chicken dinners. The pork was okay, not outstanding. The chicken was pretty good. Probably a 7 or 8 on a scale of 10. It wasn't greasy and it had good flavor and crispiness. Mashed potatoes and gravy were okay. I liked the biscuits, but I've had better. They have a sweetness to them that I liked. We didn't take in the evenings show but I heard it was sold out. My coworker has been here several times and said it is a good time. Its a small room though with a low ceiling so be prepared for the music to be loud. The crowd was a good mix of all sorts so you won't feel uncomfortable. Staff was very friendly and cost was reasonable for the heart of SF tourist area.

Being a foreign visitor in Silicon Valley means work. On this Friday evening, I had a long day in my bones and I was looking to grab a bite while having a bit of entertainment. One of my iPhone apps directed me to 'Biscuits & Blues'. At 8 pm there was no choice anymore, which show to see since the one on the lower floor was sold out. So, I paid 15 bucks and my way to the upper floor where I sat at the bar. Soon it was obvious that this is not the place to expect five- star ambiente. The furniture has seen better days (unlike the real attractive bar maid), the darkness didn't allow to see if the place was clean or not and the food, well the food was really just average. But I left the place after a few beers with a big smile. This place is just authentic. The band was just absolutely great. A band of four with father on the accustic guitar and son on the lead. Pure, hones blues and the crowd was cheering to them. I will be back - some day.

Really great evening, service fantastic , food very good and band J.C.Smith were entertaining and excellent. A treat on our trip to San Francisco and I would go again if we had a few more days. Had two teenagers in party who loved it

Great band, great service and didn't have high expectations for the food but it was FANTASTIC. Really fun night out.

My husband and I went last Friday night and had an amazing time! The 7.30pm show was full, but the 10pm show less crowded. The music was really good, the band very friendly and everyone looked that they were having a great time. The food was really good too. We ordered the fried heirloom tomatoes, shrimp & grits and the southern fried chicken. The place is nice but the stage looks old, I think they should renovate it for a better look. Overall we had a great time!

Great venue, music and food. Got to see the Ray Charles tribute. These musicians, hit it! If it was pssible to channel Mr. Charles, they did it. Credit goes to their source but also their skill and the venue. You could tell they enjoy the energy at Blues and Biscuits. If I lived in town this place would be one to frequent.

The food is decent. i wouldn't call it outstanding but matched with the entertainment, you are guaranteed to have an enjoyable evening. The atmosphere is casual and jeans are not a problem.

I went to this restaurant during my birthday celebration in September 2016. The food was excellent, the atmosphere was very nice, and the blues artist was fantastic! Great atmosphere, food, and music!

The food was good, the band is OUTSTANDING!! They played great blues music, and featured each of the members solo more than one time. The singer, however, does not live up to the caliber of the band. She was, at best, average, while the band was outstanding!!

Good fried chicken, brisket and blues. Very well organized to allow (2) shows per evening. Would certainly return

My husband and I were in town for a wedding and Googled restaurants in the Union Square area. We couldn’t believe our luck, Biscuits and Blues provided the best entertainment in years. The band, Soul Soldiers, was outstanding!! Golden oldies—R&B, Jazz and a little Blues from the greats...Marvin, Aretha, Nancy. The setting was perfect, service excellent and solid comfort food. In walking distance from several hotels.

Music was good. The one star (or circle) is for the music. $20 was way too much for a one hour show, though. Service was bad. From the beginning to the end, bad service provided by a staff that seemed unconcerned. Food was terrible. Ordered a “specialty” – Pepper brisket served with smashed potatoes and greens, except … no potatoes. Beef was so spicy it was inedible. Greens were OK, but $30 for greens is a bit pricey. I got gouged. To soothe my hunger pangs after dinner I stopped at Burger King later that served good food, by comparison. Go for the music if the overcharge (er ... cover charge) is acceptable. Don't eat or drink. That's the only way to avoid disappointment.

Had an opportunity to go on a Tuesday night and see Chris Cain. So much soul and a hell of a guitar player, not to mention the piano as well. He was one with the instruments and played to the crowd. Funny, entertaining, and simply amazing. Wish I had time to hit the club again but time is short. It will be a must do each time I visit the city whether business or pleasure. The restaurant service was great and if you like a little kick with your food get the peppered brisket. The venue is very Blues like being underground, perfect lighting and not a bad seat in the place. No need to be front row.

We saw The Dexter Allen Band & Aki Kumar...amazing! For $20 why wouldn't you go! The biscuits are soooo good & tender. We had the shrimp appetizer-pretty good esp. w/ biscuits, jambalaya-good, and the fried chicken so good & tender. They could improve the cole slaw & mashed potatoes. We will definitely go again!

It's a great place for live music. It's small and intimate. I was worried it would be too loud but they control the volume for such a tight space. If you're going expecting great food you might be disappointed. Stick to the basics, like fried chicken, and you will be happy. I must say, however, that the Caesar Salad I had was the best I've ever had. They use huge leaves of crispy Romaine instead of the usual small chopped up variety. It was delicious, with a generous amount of dressing, which I like.

NOTE: There is a cover charge just to eat dinner. If someone is performing, you're paying cover. Now we know. We left and went to another restaurant.

We enjoy seeing live music, and this Blues bar was just around the corner from our hotel so an easy call. Fortunate to see Earl Thomas and we had a great time. The food was good, not fine dining, but it's a music venue. Service was spotty, but again we were there for the music and it did not disappoint. If you enjoy live music, particularly the Blues I would encourage you to go!

This was our first time at this club. We were celebrating my boyfriend's birthday and I had looked this place up on Trip Advisor before coming to San Francisco. We were about 15 feet from the stage, the music was incredible, the food was great, and the waitstaff was very attentive. Great southern food. Wish I had found this place the first time we came out here. Will definitely go back.

We went on a Friday night what a great price on tickets for live music. Small venue with great setting. We tried the corn shrimp fritters they were good. The music was Fantasic too!

Great vibe, fantastic music - only been once but definitely going back, food delicious - and we aren't really into Southern Food ....absolutely worth the ticket.

Extremely slow service. Drink prices are not listed on the menu. Be prepared to pay $12.00 for a 1 oz. shot. Don't waste your money here. There are better blues bars within walking distance with $5.00 cover, and $4.25 drinks.

Enjoyed dinner and a show here on a Friday night. The food, southern cooking, was delicious and the show was excellent - Lavay Smith and the Red Hot Skillet Lickers. I started with the jambalaya and finished with the pulled pork. My wife had the crab bisque and the house-famous fried chicken. While it was difficult to balance all the plates and glasses on the small cocktail table, we managed. Next time we'll ask for a booth a little further from the stage. Regardless, it's a small vene with no bad seat in the house.

We enjoyed the Pat Travers Band for a live performance. The venue is fun .. although rather stuffy and hot .. they should have the air conditioning available even on cool nights with the bodies packed so tightly in the small room. Loved though, that it was a small room and the sound filled it to the brim! We were very disappointed in the food. We had the corn and shrimp fritters and the catfish fingers. Sent both dishes back the first time as they were cold and the catfish almost raw! Just not exciting food .. I'd recommend eating elsewhere. Our server did a decent job but bar service could get rather slow. Had a great time and I'd be at this venue often if I lived in SF.

Had a wonderful meal on Christmas!! Food was great, atmosphere awesome and staff very pleasant!! Will be back!

Biscuits in Blues is like going back to the supper and jazz clubs of the sixties. The music just blows you away. The southern food adds to the ambience. You can imagine fifty years ago sitting in a smoke filled club with the haze of good, jazz and booze. Was an unexpected lucky addition to our SF trip!!

Found myself in SF on a cold Saturday night with nothing to do. Biscuits and Blues was around the corner from my hotel, so I decided to give it a go. I was pleasantly surprised by the venue and the quality of the performers! I wouldn't hesitate to see another show here. The staff is mostly unfriendly (aside from the downstairs hostess) including the bartender and woman selling tickets, and could be considered downright rude. Food was just ok, and for a place with "biscuit" in its name you'd think they'd serve them warm.

loved the food and act but struggled bit with the scant singing. reasonable blue and friendly service

I really enjoyed this place. We wandered in off the street, without a pre-purchased ticket. I got the impression that we might have been a little lucky (not sure if they weren't just trying to make it seem that way, although the place was pretty busy). Had a bourbon or two from a decent selection and enjoyed a very good blues band through two sets. Service was quite good.

Without doubt the worst food I have had anywhere in the world in a reviewed restaurant. Caesar salad and grilled prawns. Well what could go wrong. Tired cos lettuce 6 pieces in some sort of nondescript sauce and Parmesan with 4 flavourless prawns cooked to extinction. The crab cakes were indescribable. Wine was fine, service OK jazz entertaining. Just don't order those dishes. Whether the others on offer are any good I do not know and won't try to find out.

If you like blues and good southern comfort food In a friendly and welcoming atmosphere, get in here. We spent the night listening to George " big harp" and his band and were blown away with the authenticity and quality of the music. Service is good, Food good, music good!

We visited San Francisco in 2012 and had the urge for some food and blues, I think we went on a Monday night and it started off with a guy on trumpet and a guy on keyboards, had a few drinks and some food, the Brisket as amazing. As the night went on other musicians just showed up and joined in and by the end of the night there was about 7 people on stage just jamming all together. Well worth a visit if you like your food and some blues.

We found Biscuits and Blues to be a really fun experience. We had a perfect table, although it's a small venue, so the only tables I would not have wanted were the very front row. The food is just down home southern cooking, nothing notable, but not bad either. Entertainment was personable and fun, not the best singer we've ever heard, but the evening was about the total experience, and it was nice to try something different.

Had dinner and saw a blues show and throughly enjoyed the whole experience! The meal was really nice, staff were lovely and extremely helpful and the show was magic! I was glad we got there much earlier than when the show was to start as we got a great table with a clear of the stage so missed nothing. Worth going!

Went to Biscuits and Blues on a Friday night for dinner, drinks and the show, it was a great night out! The drinks were good, the food was great, and the Blues Band was excellent! The meatloaf was really good, and the brisket was great!

While vacationing in San Francisco we made dinner reservations at Biscuits and Blues and was extremely disappointed in the level of service we received at the restaurant by the waitress Jenny and the manager. Our dinner reservation was for 6:30pm and showtime was at 7:30pm which we arrived 15 mins early only to wait another 10 mins to purchase the actual dinner/show tickets. Finally we proceed to the lower level to be seated. The Host greeted us and advised we could sit at any of the open tables or booths. We selected a table on the 3rd row/stage left. As soon as we were seated our waitress Jenny pops up to take our drink orders and from this point everything goes down hill. Moments later the Host approaches our table to advise us the patrons seated in the booth next to us had a large party and would need the table to accommodate one of their guest who was in a wheel chair. With no hesitation I acknowledged that would not be a problem and the gentleman with the large party offered to buy us drinks for the inconvenience which we never received. So we found another table as we were patiently waited on our drink order that the waitress Jenny had taken over 20 mins earlier. As I began to look around the dimly lit room there may have been 20 patrons seated at that time. Finally, our drinks arrived one cocktail and a bottle of water. Really does it take that long as I could have made several trips to the nearby 7 Eleven store or liquor shop in Chinatown and made my own cocktails. Our waitress continues to take drink orders from other patrons that are now being seated then she finally realizes she had not taken our dinner order. The southern fried chicken was highly recommended by the concierge at our hotel. So I ordered a spinach salad with shrimp and my partner ordered the fried chicken. It is now 7:15pm and we still haven't received our entrees. Fast forward another 20 minutes and we are grooving to the opening number of Ms. Lavay Smith and Her Red Hot Skillet Lickers band. At this point I have accepted that fact our dinner order was never entered and Jenny must be on her smoke break. Finally our waitress is spotted on the far left side of the stage delivering patrons their entrées who obviously arrived an 30-40 mins or so after we arrived. Jenny comes to our table to advise she is so sorry but the kitchen was backed up. How difficult is it to drop some spinach in a bowl and top it off with some shrimp. I kindly advised our waitress at that point there was no need to bring the food out as it was highly unacceptable as I was expecting to receive our entrées prior to the beginning of showtime. She nonchalantly apologized and said she would speak to her manager. The manager comes over only to offer us cocktails for the mishaps. What is wrong with this picture? You obviously can bring our entrees out in a timely manner but you want to fill us up with booze. Such an insult and distasteful way to handle the situation. At this point you completely ruined our evening and I was unable to further enjoy the band. We decided to leave the restaurant but I spoke with the co-owner before walking out and explained the occurrences of my unpleasant visit. She offered for us to come back again and actually refunded my money. The venue is very quaint and intimate so how can the service be so horrible? Extremely disappointed patron here!!

We came here for dinner. We loved their nachos and the meatloaf was delicious. The waiter was helpful and very friendly. If you can, have dinner here and stay for one of the concerts.

We went along paid the $15 each cover charge to get in and sat down for a meal. Good and prompt service and then the act that night came on, The Fat Tuesday Band, absolutely great. The club has an intimate and electric atmosphere and food was served without fuss. Good food at reasonable prices. If you want a real atmospheric night out, try catching this band. I would recommend this club to anyone on a visit to San Francisco great night.

The bands can be very good to just average. But we always have a good time when we go. Food is always good but not great! You should go for the entertainment!

Enjoyed some really nice Blues - solid group and it was midweek which was nice to find near Union Square. Venue was nice and cover at $20 was fine. Somewhat dimly lit which was nice and had a nice feel overall. Service was a bit slow (on a slow night) but friendly. Drink selection not super extensive but had enough, certainly to enjoy the show. Fun time overall. 3.5 stars for me.

If you love Jazz music and Food then this is the place to be. We had a table near to the stage and we had a fantastic night. Excellent music by Steve Willis & The Willing and great food. Service was very good. Overall a great night.

This place was a wonderful experience. The entertainers were incredible and I have been told several time since that the acts are always of a very high standard and well regarded in the U.S. It was just as you would imagine how a nice blues bat should be with a few booths and cute little round tables with attentive waiters regularly refilling our drinks. Absolutely a must do in San Fran.

While the menu includes southern bbq standards...catfish and "po boy" sandwiches...the draw is the music. Come here for top notch entertainment!

Food was ok, menu limited and of a particular cuisine - Southern - ok if you like the style. We however went for the music.... which was great. The room is relatively small and intimate with bistro tables in the main central area and booths around the edge. We saw an act called Tia Carroll who had a 4 piece band. Very good, friendly, interactive - close. Sort of place you would have imagined would have been cigar smoked filled a few years ago. Friendly staff.

I went to B&B to listen Ray Charles Project on the 13th of December with my husband. To take good seats, it is recommended to have meals, too. We decided to have dinner. Appetizer was shrimp and corn fritters. I ordered catfish and my husband did meatloaf. The appetizer had nice texture combination but it was bit greasy-need more skill to fry the food. I enjoyed succotash with catfish. However, my husband's dish was bit surprise; the gravy was too spicy... I love the music. The atmosphere was exciting and spontaneous. Interaction between performers and audience was great. Next time, we need to remember to order less spicy food. It will enhance our experience.

We have been here several times to see blues and jazz bands. It is below street level, which gives it a cool "on the down-low" vibe. The bartender Shawn is always friendly and on top of things. They book a lot of talented musicians that are worth checking out. They serve dinner but we have not eaten there so I can't comment on that.

Booked this really more to hear the blues music...this was good, but food I maybe would give it a miss...nothing to exciting and choices available some where off the menu and what was left was pretty boring,

We decided on this place after looking for somewhere to see some cool blues and grab some good grub while we were at it. This place had good reviews and I liked the look of it online. Our mind was made up when we met a guy down at the cable car depot who was going there later that evening and so we called ahead to reserve a table and headed out for an early dinner and to catch a show. We were early and only another 2 or 3 people entered at the same time as us making it nice and easy to get a good table close to the stage and get started on our order. It did get busy later on and so we were glad to have been sorted before the rush. The place is large and has a nice atmosphere being dimly lit and typically bluesy. The server was friendly and very efficient. We ordered a nice fried chicken dinner, a brisket dinner with all the sides and they were out pretty sharpish as it was quiet. The food good but not outstanding considering the price but it was all part of the experience. All in all we spent a couple of hundred dollars for the evening but that was including beers and cocktails (and the spirits were pretty pricey but I’m sure it’s on a par with other similar nightclub type places – we just don’t get out enough these days to realise how expensive things have got! Glad we went though as was an enjoyable evening.

This place was a last minute decision.. Great music.. The menu is a little too rich for me, so ate very little, but my friend loved it and dove right in.. I did however enjoy the music and atmosphere..

B&B is a fantastic little music venue that also does (passable) Soul Food. For this particular weary traveller it soothed, energised and delighted, while throwing in a decent plate of Jambalaya. Not super cheap (it's a block away from Union Square) - but if you're in need of a little soul, and let's face it, who isn't, it's going to be worth twice the price of admission.

There isn't a bad seat in the house!!! Love the small intimate feel of this Blues club!! We walked from the Hilton, Union Square. Drinks were good, a little pricey, but all in all a must if you are a Blues lover!!

Not only the music is great in this basement southern restaurant. The food and drinks are really good. And those biscuits: a joy. Great service too.

I cannot rave enough about this restaurant. I was in town for a conference with a colleague at the Hotel Monaco, this restaurant was recommended to me plus within walking distance from the hotel. I was a bit confused at first when I had to pay for a ticket but then the hostess explained that you get your seat for the evening and get to dine & watch the Jazz show. Although the server was very busy, we felt that he cared about our dining experience. We ordered shrimp & corn fritters, ribs and fried chicken plus biscuits of course. The food was out of this world - delectable fritters, juicy crispy fried chicken and fall off the bone ribs plus fluffy biscuits. The blues show was entertaining and interactive with the crowd. Would recommend to all.

I went to this blues club with a friend who got tickets from Goldstar. Saw Chris Cain. Because it was a week night, we were not required to have drinks or dinner so that was plus. The place was small, the music was not too loud and Chris Cain and his band members were fantastic! Great place to go especially if staying in Union Square!

Really enjoyed my night - great for a group, a couple or a single - you would feel comfortable here. Although sent my salmon back the replacement was great. Fab tunes! $15 cover was worth it!

heard about htis place on-line months ago and was delighted to find it near our hotel. we went for the 7-30 show and really enjoyed it. True blues it was. We drank beer, didn't dine. The $20 entry made it very good value for the night.

Booked this as a treat for a friends 40th. While I initially thought the cover charge was a little steep, it was worth every penny. We were treated to great live music, with some of the best blues guitar I have ever heard and a superb fried chicken feast. The beer and service were also great.

There was a group of four or us and it exceeded our expectations. We arrived at 6:00 for dinner. The staff was great, and dinner was outstanding. I would get the fried chicken again. There isn't a bad seat in the house. The entertainment started at 7:00 and was unbelievable. That night they charged $20 for a 4 hour concert. Elvin Bishop was just one of many entertainers. I could have listened to anyone of them all night. We are planning to go back very soon.

Went on Friday night for the 7:30 show featuring Sugaray Rayford and his band. They were high energy and seemed to be enjoying themselves. We certainly did. They played a ninety minute set. The service was good. I was only drinking water but the wait staff kept filling my glass without prompting. They food arrived after the show started so it was hard to see what I was eating. But the Jambalaya was spicy and good. My wife had the spinach salad with grilled prawns. She enjoyed it and so did I. She shared the spinach but not the prawns. The biscuits were served hot with honey butter. A great experience and a fun evening. Worth a visit when in San Francisco.

I made reservations for six and two couldn't make it. They are charging me for six anyway. When I mentioned that I was writing a review, Livia at the ticket counter made a very rude comment. I will NEVER come back here. I would recommend that you don't either.

Went to this restaurant to see a Sunday 7:00 show. We arrived early (doors open at 5:30) because the restaurant directly above, Little Sheep Mongolian Hot Pot, fills up in about five minutes. We needn't have worried. The venue, which could seat 80 comfortably, had only about 30 in attendance for this show. Food arrived quickly. Corn and shrimp fritters were probably the best item we had, although that was mostly the excellent remoulade alongside - the fritters themselves were less savory than they should have been and the shrimp added little with an odd mouthfeel. Biscuits were good but unspectacular. Fried chicken was subpar with little spice and, at $25 for a small drumstick, thigh and breast and small sides, left me feeling a bit cheated. The 7:00 act was a two man show possessing some technical expertise but roughly zero soul. The sparse audience started filing out a third of the way through the act. My wife and I held on for as long as we could but inevitably succumbed to an overdose of the singer's repetitive whining. The buskers on Geary performing not 300 feet away were far superior and I felt real regret for not giving them the $30 I spent for the show at Biscuits and Blues instead. That said, Biscuits and Blues has some good acts perform. Just be very choosy, as the person booking the gigs here clearly isn't.

The woman at the reception obviously wishes she were elsewhere and is very unfriendly, sometimes rude. Food is greasy and nothing special. They do have good musicians from time to time but the low ceiling means acoustics are poor. I do not recommend this palace.

We were staying at the Handlery Union Square Hotel and the concierge suggested The Biscuit and Blues Club as a great venue. He sure was right. We bought our tickets early in the afternoon from their box office, then returned that night for dinner and the music. It was a very friendly atmosphere with tables close together so you got to know your neighbours. The food and drinks were pretty good but the emphasis was on the music. The Bay City Blues Band was incredible -playing with passion and skill. We had a great time.

We went to hear the John Garcia Band here...what a great blues band and had great southern food...worth a look!

WOW, I recently went here to see Lavay Smith and The Red Hot Skillet Lickers. I was excited about seeing Lavay and the band and hadn’t put high expectations on the dinner part of the experience; I was BLOWN AWAY with BOTH the SHOW and the FOOD!!! Tina was WONDERFUL about getting seats and they were great seats at that, IN FACT there isn’t a bad seat in the house!!!! Lavay and the boys in the band were FANTASTIC!!! ALL of the dishes that my group had were stellar from gumbo to dessert. I had the fried chicken that was AWESOME, compliments go out to the chef, his kitchen staff AND the WAIT STAFF!!!! I can’t wait to get back to the Bay Area again, I will definitely be making a stop at the Biscuit & Blues even if it’s just for a GREAT MEAL!!!!

If you like southern New Orleans entertainment & food, you will love this restaurant. It is Blues at it's best with local performers who have been on tour and made CD's

You come here for the music which was great although i guess it depends on who is performing. I love the intimacy of the place and we came last year as well because the music is fantastic. there are 2 'sittings' and we chose the early one . The service is efficient and fast. I shared the ceviche of avocado and prawns which had a kick to it and t was ok followed by the beef brisket with pepper which again was fine. If you love music I recommend you see who is performing and come. You always get a chance to meet the performers which is bonus

The show was excellent....we loved the atmosphere....a great place for blues...the dinner was pretty good...not the best we've had in San Francisco, but still very good. It was more about the environment!!! Will go there again...

Just spent a great hour & a half at Biscuit & Blues watching a band from Tennessee. Great venue, lovely staff & service and a good range of drinks at reasonable (for California!) prices. Didn’t eat this time, but what came out looked ok. Thoroughly recommend this for a great night out whether you are into Blues or not.

This place could tell some stories. Had a great time, seated in a prime spot, service was great. Only had drinks but plenty of folks ordered up food and it looked pretty good. Great basement bar vibe and the JC Smith Band was solid, great blues standards and some of their own music made for a great night !

We were pleasantly surprised to find a live music venue in central SF. The night we visited Bay City Blues with Chris Cain were the live act. Very good solid musicianship. We opted for a with food ticket, Service was quick and good. Food was good without being startling. Very comfortable venue and not too bad prices for drinks.

My husband and I are in town for a few nights and did some research and uncovered this place and we are so glad we did! Let me say, you don't go for the food. The food is decent comfort food - the biscuits are fabulous! We shared the Southern Fried Chicken. The BLUES though - wow. What talent. We were blown away by the Shane Dwight, who was playing tonight. From his orignial songs to Johnny B Good to John Cougar Mellancamp's Ain't That America - pure talent and entertainment. So glad we found this place.

Other reviewers would have you expect a food apocalypse here, that was not our experience. The food was actually much better than I expected, as was the service. Catfish fingers were warm and crispy with a nice breading and decent dipping sauce. gumbo was also acceptable. We saw Sista Monica here, the show was very enjoyable although not very long, and the musicians were first rate. Overall, I felt the evening was very enjoyable and I would go there again.

I researched this venue on Trip Advisor as I was looking to hear some live Blues while in San Francisco on Holiday. The Venue was perfect small enough to be intimate but the right size to create an atmosphere. We were lucky to be there on a night when Chris Cain was playing. The man is a blues guitar legend. Couple this with the friendly staff bringing my Laphroaig and light snacks and this venue had it all.

We attended a 7:00 Sunday night show with dinner and are so glad we did! The music was great, the fried chicken dinner was delicious, you have to get the basket of biscuits, the waitstaff was friendly and quick to respond to requests. Cannot say enough good things about this place!

Not sure about the food, but the live Blues were great. The staff were quick and we never were left waiting.

Okay, the food isn't really great, but had much worse, nice atmosphere, looks tidy, a bit to straining-to-sell waiters, but what would you do in you were the owner of this joint. A beter part was the band of Santana singer Tony Lindsay, great musicians to, liked the skills of his guitarist very much.

I just loved this cute bar with live jazz music! The food was great, atmosphere perfect. I totally recommend it, but don't forget to make a reservation when going to the concert

Venue is small and intimate. High quality musicians playing jazz, blues, etc. Biscuits are great, long list of wines and cocktails. Near Union Square

If you love good Blues and southern cooking, this is the place for you. Music: this venue is a small, intimate club-like setting where you are no more than 40 feet away from the stage. Last night we were 10 feet away from John Nemeth and the Memphis Grease Party and a surprise sit-in from Elvin Bishop - fantastic! Drinks: Their signature drinks are good way to start a fun evening. Food: the fried chicken is their specialty, and it is crispy with moist meat - really great! We also had the ribs which are meaty with a nice BBQ flavor. The cole slaw and fried sweet potatoes are excellent. The only mild disappointment was the ceviche and avocado starter which was light on the ceviche and the avocado. Two seatings per night and $25 corkage. Fun crowd and evening for both locals and out-of-towners.

My colleagues and I were looking to hit a club of some sort during our San Francisco stay. On a lark, we decided on this place. We were NOT disappointed! Even though the folks who vacated the table next to us as we arrived quipped, "Good Luck getting served," we found little to complain about as far as the service went, but we weren't in any hurry, either. A $10 cover is needed to get in on what turned out to be Jam Night (Mondays); this varies with the act of the evening. After that, you can spend as much or as little as you want on food and drinks, both of which are QUITE good. The crab bisque was spectacular; we followed that with a series of shared appetizers (Mac & cheese croquettes, fried green tomatoes...) and dessert (bananas foster bread pudding -- pure bliss).

This was my second visit to this city, and my second visit to this blues bar and restaurant. It doesn't disappoint. The music was awesome, and the dinner was great!

This venue is very quaint. The music was fabulous and the service was great! Food was ok but I recommend going. Fun night out!

Situated not far from Union Square Biscuits & Blues is great for Jazz lovers & anyone who enjoys good food. Friendly welcome at desk & taken down stairs to restaurant. The music & atmosphere is great. Good price menus. A great evening

Biscuit & Blues is a basement bar/restaurant, with frequent performances of blues bands. You can just have dinner there, or you can have dinner and a show, or just the show. The staff was friendly and helpful, the music was good. They accommodated my special dietary needs. The prices are within range for downtown San Francisco -- I'd say they are moderate, but not cheap. I had a good time there. If you're in the area, I'd recommend it. It's very close to major hubs of public transportation (maybe four or five blocks from the Powell St. BART Station, for example).

We went to Biscuits and Blues two nights in our recent week stay in San Francisco. Obviously we returned the second night because we thoroughly enjoyed the first night. We had also been there a few years ago. The food, mostly southern cuisine, is good, but not great. The entertainment both nights however was great. It is a fun, funky, intimate and safe environment. We find it well worth the cover charge and food prices. The management made a point to come around and introduce themselves and made us feel welcome. Our second night was a jam session, which was fun, and had exceptional musicians. For a fun and reasonable night of music in SF, I heartily recommend Biscuits and Blues.

great show, good food, bluesy atmosphere, loved it

Downstairs, low ceilinged, atmospheric. Very decent food and friendly staff. Music loud but not unbearably so. Terrific place to visit for music lovers.

Small venue with great southern comfort food and good drink menu. The employees are extremely courteous and work hard to make your experience memorable. The facilities are clean. You sit right up against the stage and the schedule line up is all Blues with top name and up in coming performers I.e. Ray Goren.

This cozy tea room features authentic preparation of a wide selection of black, green and herbal teas. The tattooed owner visits the tea gardens of Japan, Taiwan, Malaysia and Sri Lanka every year, assuring that the teas, largely organic, and grown in ways respectful of the workers and the environment. She hosts the families that grow her teas to demonstrate brewing techniques. This place is great: a warm atmosphere, amazing teas: steep yourself in tradition!

Attended a fundraiser for musician Harvey Mandel - the personnel were attentive, caring, respectful and accomodating. Harvey's all star guests looked and sounded tremendous here in this cozy venue. Efficient service, pleasant bar, wonderful sound system - and excellent sightlines from everywhere! Drinks wonderful; also had fried calamari - both plentiful and tasty. The venue was flexible and helpful in getting this fundraiser to be a success. They attract a variety of notable artists, and are in a convenient part of town with close parking. I enjoyed the show here immensely - comfortable, clean, artsy atmosphere - enjoyable! Conducive to conversation between songs and acts, not LOUD like some venues - a first choice to see an artist or experiment with a new act you may not be yet familiar with - you'll totally enjoy them here - I'm delighted I discovered this "insider's" spot!!

Quite expensive place, especially if you consider the entrance fee for any live music show. Food is quite poor but expensive. Too noisy and dark place (cannot see what is written on the menus)

This is a great joint for Southerners with a craving for the tastes and sounds of the South in the middle of SF. It's basically dinner with a show, although you can just buy tickets for the show if you want. We thought the food was good, tried the shrimp and grits and the peppered brisket, both excellent, with generous servings but not overwhelming. The wait staff was attentive and efficient. Mainly this place is a blues bar, and we saw a great set by a nationally-known artist on a Friday night, it looks like they have more local artists during the week. Overall, we left feeling like we had a good time for a fair price.

Not necessarily being a big Blues fan (despite my moniker on here) we decided to dine at B and B on Christmas Eve whilst in San Fran, and as a result of reading reviews. It ticked every box. We were very very lucky to have had John Lee Hooker Jr and his band as our act and my only gripe is that the night goes so quickly! Given that this review should probably talk about the food I’ll tell you that the meatloaf and smashed potatoes I had was sublime, as was the slaw that I added as a side. My wife had a chicken Caesar salad and was equally impressed. Waiting service is impeccable, despite a busy night and a crowded dining area the waiting staff would be asking you did you want another drink just in time for finishing the one you had. If I’d stayed in SF a week, I’d have booked to come here every night

We went to the Biscuit and Blues bar to check out the live music and southern style cooking. There was a $15 cover charge and we were there in time for the 7 o'clock first sitting. The drinks were a reasonable price for downtown San Fran. We had the Gumbo and Shrimp Fritters to start. The fritters were really good. The gumbo had a great taste, but only has a single shrimp and one or two pieces of meat in the bowl. For the main meal I had the Crawfish and my wife had the ribs. Both were good. With a few glasses of wine the bill was around $120 before tip and excluding the cover. Watching live music is why people come here, and we enjoyed the band. I wouldn't say they were blues, more 50's rock n roll/swing. It's a casual atmosphere and the band were engaged with the audience. We arrived around 6:30pm. The band started at 7. Our check arrived at about 8:15 and then the house lights came up as the band finished around 8:30. The service is hurried and they want to get you done by the time the bands finish and they can get the next group in. I would come back to Biscuit and Blues for the music. The food is okay, but not great and the service matches the food. Next time I would try the late sitting. It might be a bit more relaxed and not feel like you are being pushed out the door. Everyone should give BnB a try, even if it's just to continue to support live music.

Many years ago when students my wife and I used to frequent a place like this in Cardiff so being given the chance to roll back the years we gave it a try. With a little trepidation we walked in expecting to be looked at a bit quizzically. Nothing of the sort. The receptionist didn't bat an eyelid. Wandering down the stairs the noise increased but what a great noise. Real live R&B played to a half full room of diners and drinkers. We arrived just at the end of the early session and because we opted to dine had a table at the back to ourselves. Given the size of the place it makes little difference where you sit as the decibel level remains high. But hey we were trying to be young. The Southern influenced food was tasty spicy and with an ample amount. We chose a pretty good Pinot Noir. I know it should be beer but we've reached an age where we can't handle the quantity without lots of 'comfort breaks' For a great noisy and exciting night out its hard to beat, although with a different band every night it's a bit of a gamble as to whether the music is good bad or indifferent

Didn't quite get to this place. We were too early by a week for what we would have liked to see. Next time however :-)

Have been to B&B many times, most recently in April of 2016. I go there for the music but the menu is great - Cajun/Creole cuisine. Consistently good food (however, disappointingly, the biscuits are not all that - unfortunate to have it in the name of the venue). Service was attentive without being overbearing. Another good experience.

Fabulous blues bar. We booked same day for a Wednesday evening and got a great table on the second row( no one in the first row) $20 for the show which was Mitch Woods and his band and very entertaining. Food is interesting with a southern base, baby back ribs, southern fried chicken, hot wings, crab cakes and biscuits ( like scones) - all washed down with a bottle of California Pinot Noir - all delicious. Great experience.

Great music, we saw the fantastic Lavay Smith, great atmosphere, the place was full on a Saturday night. The food is good and the service is just fine. As others have said the food and drinks are pricey, but it's what you'd pay in a good music club anywhere. Forget what you pay and enjoy the music and revel in the place.

We had an amazing night!! The music was so real and genuine, even if you're not a fan of blues. The musicians were so talented and had a great sense of humor as well, you can really tell that they loved what they're doing. It's a pretty small space so the audience got involved as well. Must go in San Francisco!!

Great jazz spot if visiting San Fran! Very entertaining.. The food was pretty good too but nothing to write home about.

Returned last week-second time in two years. Still the place to go for live music and a decent meal. Same thing happened this time though - had to send back my meal because it was cold. 'Crawfish etouffee' was the right portion and very tasty. Great spot - lots of couples, small groups, appreciative crowd. You can feel comfortable here as a solo as well. Service okay for me that night - not as bad as some reviewers. Ron Thompson and the Resistors were on fire and I stayed for the second set. Neighborhood not an issue. Look forward to returning.

My friend and I went to see Shane Dwight perform his latest CD release. The scene at this place is very laid back. The staff are very friendly and the performance was great. If ever in the area make sure to check out what events are taking place. You will not be disappointed.

We decided to spend our last night in San Francisco here, we went in, venue was nice, low ceiling, intimate. We were put on a wonky table. We eventually got water and then eventually (20mins) later were asked what else we'd like to drink, we ordered our food, starters and mains at the same time and were asked if we'd like it all brought out together... Erm no! We'll have starters first thanks. First round of drinks came and my Husbands drinks were wrong (didn't bother complaining, they weren't interested.) Food came, thankfully it was delicious! Finished our starters, the plates were never cleared away then they brought the mains out, obviously there was no room on the wonky table. So we help get the table cleared, I ask for a new knife and fork and he hands me the dirty ones I've just used with my starter!!! Again the food was thankfully superb. The entertainment was brilliant, thoroughly enjoyed it! The service however, we've had better at home in the UK. Unfriendly, uninterested and frankly very disappointing.

On our first night in San Francisco we wanted an early dinner close to our hotel. The menu here sounded lovely so I rang to ask if we could go just to eat if we left before 7.30pm when the music was due to start (there’s an additional ticket charge for the music). The guy on the phone said that was fine, but when we arrived the lady on the door was quite rude when we explained. We were then given completely unsuitable seats and the waitress was quite dismissive. We almost left (it had been a long flight!). However, we were moved and a different waitress was simply lovely and very attentive. The food was tasty and served quickly. Despite our self-imposed deadline we didn’t feel rushed. The venue really filled up as the time for the music got closer and we were sorry to leave. We will go back, I think and stay for the music.
Food, Music, Setting Superb! Wanted More Gumbo!
At $15 the ticket price was fine for this fairly small, intimate setting. The musicians were good. I'm not sure that I'm enough of an expert to say how good. But we were pleased. We were also happy to go to the 7:30 show and be invited to stay for the 9:30 since it was a "light crowd" night. Food was a little pricey, but not out of line for downtown San Francisco. $25 for basic but tasty fried chicken. Really, really good gumbo....but $13 for a fairly small bowl was a bit steep. This was the only negative of the evening. Really, if you have a cup and bowl on the menu....the bowl is expected to be enough for a meal. But it wasn't and when I mentioned it to the waitress, she said "Thanks, I'll share that feedback." Honestly, I was just hoping for a little more soup. Wine was overpriced. Gnarly Head Zin is $7 for a bottle at my local supermarket. It was $9 per glass here. Again, I know, downtown San Fran. Just sayin'. Prices aside, we had a wonderful evening listening to music, eating, drinking and feeling like we were in a private club. We give it a thumbs-up.
