A Fun Place to Eat!

By Barry S |

We were in New York for a few days visiting family. We stumbled on the restaurant and we were attracted to the Outdoor Seating. The food and service were very good. The Outdoor Seating Area is covered with Large Umbrella canopies, which gave it a cozy feeling. The menu is Italian based, with a unique way that it is prepared. Our waiter was excellent and a lot of fun. If you are looking to escape to a calmer atmosphere in the middle of the city, this is your place!

Great food and Atmosphere

By rw005x9966 |

An excellent find after a disastrous first meal at Juniors. We went on to eat here for 3 nights. Very authentic Italian menu. Excellent service and food. Noticed local diners not just tourists like ourselves. A great find among some dodgy food outlets in New York. Only negative expensive but everything is in NY!

Spectacular ambiance

By NestorFRios |

The food was very good, but the ambiance was spectacular. The music, friends simply was the perfect night. This "ristorante" is a magical place!!!

Love this place!

Love this place! |

This our 2nd time having dinner here. We were in the city last September and stumbled upon it. The service is outstanding! Ben Hur was our waiter and made us feel like family. He was very attentive and so nice. The food was wonderful! We had the homemade gnocchi and another homemade pasta. Very nice wine selection too!

Over priced and food not great.

By Michelle L |

So disappointed. Looking forward to authentic Italian food. I have food allergies and they delivered my plate with tomatoes all around the food. I was very specific. Waiter repeated the list. Still delivered a plate of death. Even the tiramisu was just ok. Didn't finish any of my food cause why waste the calories on just ok. I won't go back. Tomorrow we will head to Little Italy.

Staff friendly |

Very nice place with good pasta! Thank you to the staff, especially Ben-Hur! Was very friendly and helpful for the choice of food.

Excellent Meal

By Mike B |

Had an excellent meal here, the staff were very friendly and nothing seemed to be too much trouble. Would recommend it.

Excellent

By Michael C |

This was a great lunch. My only gripe (which I will get out of the way up front) is that I thought the osso bucco and accompanying risotto were both under-seasoned. Nothing a pinch of salt didn't sort out. It did surprise me though as everything else was top notch. We shared a fabulous Caprese and Claudia's escalope with salad was great. Good service Nice wine list - although we just had a glass. As it was lunch. Recommended

Fabulous from start to finish

By Lovetofly33 |

Amazing service, food and atmosphere. The experience was perfect from start to finish, our table had Cesar salads, spaghetti carbonara, mushroom risotto and a chicken parmigiana that was literally the size of a small pizza! It was huge and so delicious. The portions are generous and the quality was top notch, also a very nice wine list. Go here, you will not be disappointed!

Great Italian

By duckiek |

Good variety of selections, and great food and wine. Went for a business dinner with 10 people. Service was very good too. Had a black linguine with seafood that was very tasty. Also had great fried calamari and an antipasto.

Just delicious food. Better than I had in Italy.

By CathRun |

I'm going to say it. The meal we had here was better than any of the ones we've ever had in Italy. It was that good. The concierge at the Midtown Hilton recommended it, and I am so glad she did. A head's up though: We made reservations with the concierge and STILL had to wait 40 minutes for a table. I was a doing a slow burn over that, plus the bartender wasn't the friendliest. so my husband and I had a glass of wine at their little bar and just kept reminding myself that the food was supposed to be good. The hostess and manager kept hustling over and apologizing so that helped me plus my increasingly crankier teens. We finally sat down and Nick, our waiter, scurried over....and the fun began. He has a tendency to shriek a little with excitement and is very enthusiastic about the food...I loved him. We got the bucatini and lasagna and some risotto and salads...whatever. It was all good and we wanted to lick the plates. The only thing I will say is watch the gnocchi...it's heavy on the basil. For dessert we ordered a few and shared. Go...it's really wonderful food.

Superb Italian

By roxygirl100 |

Read the reviews. All v positive and they were right! Husband had the minestrone (good). Black taglialioni w clams and other seafood (excellent). I had the Caesar salad. (Dressing was superb) and chicken parmigiana (excellent) Close to the Hilton we stayed at (horrible). This restaurant was a real find. Superb

Upscale casual

By LibertyStreet |

The concierge at the Warwick Hotel suggested this restaurant. Perfect choice for our first night in NYC. Pretty; big enough to have plenty of seating, but not too big. Looked like people at the bar were having fun. Lots of outside seating and food was good. The balsamic vinegar served with the oil and bread was fantastic.

You can do better....

By Amy M |

I was very disappointed with our visit to Bistro Milano. It got good reviews on TA. But when we went, 2 of the most popular items on the menu, the Ravioli Zucca and the Veal Chop, were not available. So we "settled" for another ravioli appetizer with lobster. It was very good. For the main course I had the lamb chops. It was delicious but too small a portion for $45.00. The waiter was abrupt, but that is very New Yorkish. Bottom line, I think you can find a better choice for an Italian experience in NYC.

A nice Northern Italian place a block from midtown Hilton

By Chinapjs |

Every time we go to NYC and stay at the midtown Hilton we pop by Milano for lunch or dinner. The food is excellent and so is the service. Hadn't been in two years and it was as good as ever. Try any of the pastas or the risotto. Salads are very good too. As some decent wine selections at reasonable prices.

Good, solid menu with excellent preparation. The friendly competent service is hard to beat anywhere in the city

Good Italian Cuisine

By Lloyd P |

Stopped here just on a whim hoping for a nice Italian dinner & weren't disappointed. I had the Risotto Mare & my wife had the lasagna. Both were very tasty. Service was good & restaurant was fairly quiet in spite of being very busy. Made for a nice evening after a hectic day trying to see all of New York. Prices are reasonable.

Great find close to Central Park

By CDM4282 |

We walked the edges of Central Park on a beautiful Sunday morning and after the walk decided we were hungry. We walked over th 5th Avenue and went to 6th avenue and turned right,we discovered this beautiful Bistro. We sat outside and had a wonderful Brunch. The atmosphere was great, low humidity and a slight wind.It was a wonderful experience. The restaurant was very clean, staff was excellent, little pricey but we feel we got great value. The Mushroom Risotto was the best I have ever had,and we discovered Balsamic oil for the first time, not vinegar, but oil. We ate tapas style, soup,Salmon and Risotto,it was all delicious. Highly recommend

Always a good time and good food

By C J |

This is just around the corner from our hotel and found it about 6 years ago and now its our first stop once we hit town. Same wait staff there for a long time and I never have to worry abut having a great meal.

Excellent food &a service

By Teresa R |

We really enjoyed our dinner on the patio. The staff was very attentive and quickly moved us when it started to sprinkle rain without us asking! My husband & I both had the three course dinner. It was delicious and good value.

Get to Know Your Service Staff

By WPBLocalColour |

I've been in and out of NYC as visitor, student, resident and business traveler for 50+ years. I see the teeming hordes of tourists doing to the death march especially in midtown on 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th avenues. Not sure what travel books they are reading. For those who do find themselves in midtown there is hope. Go to places like Bistro Milano. In the summer, sit outside around 6PM or later and watch harried office workers rushing to catch their PATH train or F train to Queens. But, by all means, get to know your service persons! Example: the tables are covered with paper. My son drew an NYC skyline over the entire sheet! The wait staff without fail was kind and warm and so professional! These are real people with real warmth and real experience. Humanity (and, oh yes, great food!) are alive and well in midtown! P.S. If entire Family goes, then Papa Bear will appreciate this: Bistro Milano pours an honest martini!

Nice relaxing evening after a long day

By 181billz |

The concierge suggested this restaurant and we were not disappointed. The waiter we had was fantastic. He explained everything. The appetizer was shrimp and calimari which was cooked perfectly. I had shrimp, baby clams and mussels over a rice sauce. It was very tasty. My son had past and meat, he liked my meal better but he stated his was very good. We would go back.

Great Pizza Margarita!

By kathyh303 |

If you are craving Italian type pizza margarita why not check out Bistro Milano. We had a very nice meal here and were surprised at the delicious beef and buffalo mozzarella dish. Paired well with some nice Chianti...

Nothing compared to have a confirmed reservation the day before and find place shuttered

By Travs |

We had been to this restaurant once before for a decent meal. We were going to the theater down the block and wanted to eat there again. Reservations made. All confirmed. We showed up at 5pm, staring at a closed restaurant with brown paper covering the windows. We were as dumbfounded as was another couple who were there for there reservation, too. No sign, no nothing. Strange as it might seem, the kitchen seemed to be operating with some people wearing white kitchen gear wandering in and out of the side door of the restaurant. One mumbled, it will be open tomorrow but nothing else was said. I passed by again after the show. The place was still shuttered.

Excellent food

By Larrye E L |

We enjoyed a delectable lunch before going to the theatre on a Sunday afternoon. The menu contains many options for people with food allergies and vegetarians. The waitstaff was very attentive and engaging which enhanced our experience

Unpleasant

By Malini Parthasarathy |

Unlike most Italian bistros and cafes in NYC, this place takes itself way too seriously. It's not an attractive destination for vegetarians and the servers take umbrage when you ask for different food options. I won't be returning.

Authentic Italian

By TracyW610 |

al fresco seating. Wonderful wait staff. The lasagna is excellent. The ravioli is excellent. Obviously chef prepared. Will dine here again...and again.

Great Lunch

By Mullettlk |

Had a business lunch in the area and saw this place on OT and booked it. Great atmosphere with very helpful hostess. Service was spot on and our lunches (varied) were all great. Seafood risotto, was a stand out. Never felt rushed, and sorbet was some of the best. Great location and a place I will return.

Enjoyable meal

By StephenCross |

Bistro Milano has been slightly renamed but I’m guessing the same ownership. Food was really tasty and service was very good. Nice ambiance.

Wrong Italian place

By Sunny B |

The kitchen is veryyyyy slow. The food is mediocre at best. The ambiance is nice. But the service is not new york standards. At 9 pm the chef left. So complex dishes are off the menue. Avoid

This was my second visit!

By Meghan C |

I've been to this restaurant once before and it was just as good then as it was this time around. We had wonderful cocktails, starters, and entrees. The scallop dish was to die for!

10 out of 10 and more!

By Donna D |

This is amazing, food is to die for, lovely staff and service highly recommended. Small plates or bigger portions something for everyone

Delightful Dinner

By R V |

Are here because it was the closest high end Italian Bistro to our hotel the night we arrived in NYC. What a delightful surprise. The service could not be more warm and attentive. The food was uniformly well prepared and delicious with the seasonal pumpkin ravioli being superb. Thoroughly enjoyable dinner. I would recommend this place to anyone!

A nice stroll from the theater to dinner

By Stanley S |

On a summer day after a broadway matinee , my wife and I took a stroll in perfect weather for the season (June ). As we headed uptown , we passed a street fair and many shops. Then this lovely outdoor restaurant setting grabbed us and we knew this would be a teriffic end to a perfect afternoon. The Bistro Milano did not disapoint us.(There is also indoor seating.) The atmosphere , food ,wine and service was just what we were looking for. The quality of the food and wine was very good and just a short walk from the theater district. All the patrons looked happy and the food and drink choices were plenty. When we left , it was so perfect to contiue walking hand in hand.

Mediocre

By ColleenCap |

My daughter and I visited. It took an incredibly long time for our food to arrive. Others came and left while we continued to wait. They brought bread out and it was Delicious, BUT they did not offer to bring more despite our exceptionally long wait time. Our waiter did not check on us at all. The Caesar salad 13.00 a plate consisted of romaine and a few croutons- disappointing. Our meals were better. Homemade pasta was delicious, but again I ordered a seafood pasta dish and was disappointed in the size of the clams - very small. My meal tasted good , but for 37.00 it was on the small side and was overall disappointing for the money. My daughter had chocolate gelato for dessert- it was delicious. I had an espresso, and it was very good. I asked for a glass of wine when my meal came after an hour of waiting and it too was good- we wouldn’t return, but it was good.

On the decline?

By maggieneedlefish |

this was one of our go-to restaurants in the neighborhood. perhaps with their change to the bice brand, they are having transition issues? our 'fried calamari and shrimp' had exactly two little shrimp. and a pasta with salmon and asparagus had barely one stalk's worth of tiny asparagus slices, and zero asparagus tips. those must have been saved for some other dish. Very disappointed.

I discovered a new dish at Bistro Milano

By Amy J |

Ravioli di Zucca, that is to say pumpkin ravioli. And I eat them every time I visit. Since my first time was near Halloween I took the waiter's advice with a grain of salt. But they are really original and an excellent dish. Milano has a good list of Italian cuisine but to find something completely different is something to remark. They also have a good breadbasket, good wines by the glass and bottle and the place is open, airy, and it also has tables outside. Good attention as well. As in most Italian restaurants deserts are nothing much, I imagine I wouldn't be taken seriously if next time I ask for Ravioli de Zucca for desert. I wanted to share my discovery with you. Won't you try it?

Will Definitely Be Back!

By cream78 |

We loved the friendliness of the staff and our waiter Ben Hur made us feel like family! I had a filet with grilled vegetables that was delicious. My husband had the Chicken Parmesan , which was piled with cheese. Don’t miss the grilled asparagus. The prices were very reasonable for New York City. Wine prices were quite good too.

An amazing experience

By DirectTravelReviews |

My wife and I originally had reservations at another restaurant, but the ambiance was not what we expected and being stuck at a table in a back room was not what we were looking for. Walking down the road, we saw this place and entered....and are we glad we did. From the moment we entered we were treated wonderfully, even though we had no reservation we got a great table near the window. Our waiter, Ben Hur, was absolutely amazing. From the friendly talk to great recommendations on both food and wine, he was a key part of our meal being the experience to remember. My wife had the Tagliatelle with Alfredo sauce, while I had the pasta with rabbit. The pasta is very fresh and tasty, the the sangria we chose to have paired nicely with both. The fresh bread is amazing, and the berry gelato was a great finish to the meal. We cant wait to get back to New York and eat here again. I am shocked others had less than stellar experiences, but for us this was definitely a memory that will be remembered. Ask for Ben Hur, you will laugh as well as get a great meal.

Brilliant service.

By WarwickH |

We arrived late to be told the restaurant was closing. "It can't be, this is the city that never sleeps." We were then fed and watered, good wine, it was too, and given two wine glasses to take back to our hotel room, which didn't have any.

Great Italian Food with Friendly Service

By Jennifer G |

We went to this restaurant because it was close to the New York Hilton where we were staying. My husband ordered the Tagliolini Seafood which is a black ink pasta with clams, mussels, scallops, shrimp and calamari in a light tomato sauce. It was fabulous, and the sauce was wonderful. I ordered the eggplant parmesan which was cooked with eggplant, zucchini, and mozzarella cheese. It was also great. The bread is served with extra virgin olive oil and imported balsamic vinegar which is the best I've ever had. The prices were not outrageous, and our server, Ben, was wonderful. We plan to go back the next time we're in town and take his suggestion to split a salad and entree so we can split a dessert. We were too full to order dessert which we wanted to try.

Good Food, hit or miss service

By sisterida |

We ate at Bistro two days in a row with our family. The kids liked the Chicken Parm. The first night our service was tops. The second night we waited 10 minutes for our waitress to appear. When the assistant brought water he dumped ice cubes while pouring the water all over the table and never came back to clean them up. I had to borrow napkins and a plate for the ice from an empty table. Unlike the first night we were not provided the bread basket until I asked for it. No one came back to refil waters. We felt like we were not welcome. The food was good, but the service was terrible. We visit New York frequently and now question whether we will eat at Bistro again. Other waiters we have had were great. The assistant servers were more interested in talking to each other than giving us water or help with cleaning up a mess that they had made.

Food Was Good, Service Was Not

By DeDe B |

We stopped in for a late lunch. The atmosphere was very nice. We were seated away from the other diners and it was hard to get service. We thought that they had forgotten about us. The servers were running around all over, but were not very attentive. The food was slow to come and we had to work to flag-down a server when needed. We did enjoy the food. If the service had been better, would have rated it higher.

Excellent

By David L |

Dropped in at 3:00 in the afternoon, just a few people eating at this time. Sat inside as it was a humid day and could feel it was cooler inside. Our waiter was Ben who was friendly and attentive, we asked him to recommend the dishes for our meal and gave him a budget to work to. A bottle of Chianti was brought to the table, it was light and fruity, so we let it breathe whilst we dipped some bread in olive oil. We started with a dish of , buffalo mozzarella , drunk cheese and thinly sliced beef and ham. A plate of calamari was next, with shrimp and chick peas, very tasty and cooked just right. Next was a green pasta dish with mushrooms and walnuts, really tasty and filling. We then had Chicken Parmesan, chicken breast coated with cheese and tomato, with a plate of salad, by now we were about full, but couldn't finish without a sweet course, so we had a cream brûlée and a tiramisu with a dessert wine. By now we were absolutely full, not even room for a coffee but couldn't refuse a final glass of the dessert wine, which was sweet and dry at the same time. Overall we could not fault a single thing, the wine was great, the food fantastic and the service impeccable. We even asked to speak with the chef to compliment him, he was gracious for the compliments. We could not have asked for a more pleasant meal for our last night in New York and would recommend this Italian restaurant to everyone for the excellent food and great service.

Just dropped in .....

But what an experience!!!! Great service and beautiful food 😊 Ben-Hur Ranieri was great 👍🏻 Can absolutely be recommended 😍

Never fails to please

By Keith B |

We were really looking forward to another return to this restaurant, each experience had been excellent. This time was no exception. The service and food were outstanding. I'd highly recommend the black/squid ink tagliatelle. Appetizers, entrees were excellent, as was dessert. The wine list is extensive, by the glass and bottle.

Loved it so much, went back twice

By centralcoastmom3 |

This restaurant was recommended as a local favorite and we know why. The food was excellent. Highly recommend the pea soup as an appetizer and either the lasagna or the tortelloni as an entree. We tried several desserts and they were all great. The service couldn't have been better. Ben (and fellow wait staff) made us feel special and at home at the same time. It's the perfect place for a long, romantic, delicious dinner. They have a lovely patio and the main dining room was pretty and quiet. We truly enjoyed it so much that after eating there on the second night of our trip, we made sure we returned on our last night. It's that great!

Exceeded Our Expectations!

By michael c |

We stopped in for dinner. The hotel concierge had made several dining suggestions and this was one of their recommendations...never a guarantee but often a good start as we wanted to try some new places. The restaurant has a nice large patio, but it was raining so we sat inside. The ambiance in the dining room was nice and relaxed. Our server was an mature gentleman who clearly loves his craft and made some great menu suggestions. He even suggested that we share our meals and had the kitchen plate them this way for us. The food was fantastic and exceeded our expectations...add this to the fantastic service and we had a great night. We look forward to returning.

Ben Hur Makes you feel at home

By Jill V |

The first thing that happened when we walked into this great restaurant was Ben Hur greeted us with a warm welcome making us feel as if we were old friends who had just walked into his home. We ordered a steak a ceased salad and some delicious pasta with butter sauce and a ceased salad. The food was delicious, the service was beyond excellent and the ambience was perfect. If I lived in New York I would be there every night.

A little piece of Italy in the heart of Midtown

By Audrey A |

Italy. Gazpacho. Bread. Enough said... but seriously this place was amazing! Our server was a sweet old Italian man who was very fun and the food tasted great. If you're looking for something fresh and light, I would highly recommend the gazpacho. It's 1/4 block away from the LOVE sculpture. We sat outside near the street to enjoy the dusk atmosphere of NYC. Overall great place!

Classy Italian in Midtown

By RikiUSA |

Fantastic Italian lunch with friends. Delicious Italian, perfectly spiced, and portions leaving no one hungry. Everyone in our group was delighted with our choice of Bistro Milano. Great wine selection and casual, not a fussy atmosphere. Love the classy outdoor seating and table cloths. Great servers prepared to answer any questions. Not even a block east of Avenue of the Americas on 55th, this restaurant with its umbrellas and table cloths is easy to find. So convenient with a great menu, everyone should give it a try. We'll definitely be back for pizza or one of the other Italian entrees. Very highly recommended.

Delicious December

We enjoyed our experience. The staff welcomed us from the front of the house to the kitchen. We thank the kitchen staff for sending out such a delicious Specialitá Tartar Di Tonno.

Employees don’t care about food allergies or customers

By Jorge P |

Overall awful service from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. Had to leave the restaurant after being served food which was specified to be gluten free, since it came with pasta type ingredient (which we googled and found out to it was made with wheat.) We asked the servers what it was and they didn’t even know (allegedly they asked in the kitchen if it was gluten free) and came out with an untrustworthy answer that it was. Food allergies should be treated with more seriousness and not be ridiculed like their servers did. We felt so discriminated that we asked for the manager and it seemed they didn’t care to call him. Stay away from this place.

Not The Best NY Pizza

By torbinmc |

We had walked by this restaurant several times and, each time, the customers sitting outside seemed to be having fun and the food looked good. It was close to the end of our New York vacation and we had yet to have any pizza, so we decided to stop in for lunch. Unfortunately, it was too cold to sit outside. The pizza was not anything special and actually pretty average. In retrospect, we should have gone to a corner, pizza joint and ordered something different at Bistro Milano.

Friendly service, good food

By Thomas W |

We had lunch at this Italian Restaurant. Staff was very friendly, classy atmosphere and typical Italian food. We had the Caesar Salad and Gnocchi, and Tiramisu as dessert. Would definitely come again!

Visited the restaurant on Christmas Eve, service was good, food great. Whole family enjoyed the restaurant......sat quite close to main entrance and it was a bit chilly, otherwise excellent

Great food and service

By jerryvp |

We were looking for the restaurant listed as Bice in trip advisor. Apparently it is gone but replaced by Bistro Milano. We loved the Pizza (Pinsa). Very fresh tasting. The service was top notch. Would definitely return if we lived in NY

Very good

By Nader El... B |

A very nice typical Italian bistro. Food is excellent. We had as a starter freind calamari and shrimps and brusheto with burrata. Excellent.then for the main course we had pasta with mushrooms and bistros a la milanese an amaizing tender piece of veal meat. Ben the maître D is a great guy. Highly recommended.

Excellent value

By OrlandoLexie |

My husband and I ate a lovely meal last night, prior to seeing "Something Rotten." We enjoyed the Chilean Sea Bass and Veal. The sea bass was a hit, the veal less than amazing. I have to comment on the very professional service. Worth the expense.

Very fresh Italian

By LBHouston11 |

Small mirrored room with very attentive service and fresh Italian food. Chicken Parmesan was amazing and is served like a round pizza. Eggplant Parmesan was delicious and came with a small salad. The eggplant sauce was a bit oily. Large portions--can easily share.

Wonderful Restaurant for Lunch

By chgosask |

Went to Bistro Milano based upon a recommendation from the concierge at the Hilton Hotel Midtown. The restaurant has an enjoyable atmosphere - elegant without being stuffy and pretentious. Extensive wine list. The food and the service were excellent. The menu had a wide selection of dishes. We all had a pasta dish and were not disappointed. The fondue was the perfect finish to the meal. Exceptional service from our waiter, Ben Hur. He was attentive without being bothersome. He even photobombed a pic we took. When he told us, we all got a good chuckle out of it! Would definitely frequent again.

Disappointing Welcome

By Sabina B |

Not our first visit but it might be our last. Although we had a confirmed email booking the desk staff member could not find it, she did seat us at a table but her attitude towards us during the evening made us feel uncomfortable. We had no issues with the quality of food or the waiting staff but what could have been a 5 Star evening was spoilt by poor customer service!

Delectable scallops! Great service.

By Nancy M |

My sister and I took our parents here to celebrate their 65th Wedding Anniversary! We had a wonderful meal, and our server, Ben-Hur was charming. The scallops were tender and delectable. The salmon was cooked to perfection. When Ben-Hur, learned of our special occasion, he treated us to lemoncello digestivos after dinner. We dined early before a Broadway show, and the atmosphere was quiet but welcoming.

NYC Italian Gem

By Naplesbeachbum |

Some of the best Italian food you will get in the City. Close to the Hilton and Warwick hotels. The Ossobuco Milanese was superb. The Sea Bass Branzino was moist and delightful. The Dusty Manhattens lived up to their reputation. Very classy but friendly. Alessandro our waiter handled our requests to perfection.

Delicious early dinner following performance at N.Y.C. Center

By hjbrooklyn |

Looking for an easy dinner close to New York City Center on West. 55th St. We left City Center at 4:30 and one block away is Milano Bistro(between 5th and 6th Aves.) The entrance is on W. 55th St. Many tables outdoors which was pleasant and not noisy for NYC. Friend and I shared pizza and salad which was enough. The bill with wine was a good price for midtown. The service was polite and helpful. By the time we left all the tables were occupied. This restaurant is also convenient to most Broadway theaters.

Good restaurant!

By WJSQ8 |

Good place, Great staff, Good food. There are tables inside and outside. We enjoyed everything we ordered.

wonderful family dinner

By Barbara5852 |

While in the city to see the tree, we had dinner with our son who traveled from Colorado for business. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals and the service was IMPECCABLE. Wish I remembered the name of our server, as he was top notch. It is a definite go-to for anyone who wishes to have great Italian food in NYC...don't pass this one up! One problem; the name changed recently & I don't remember it's new one!

Great Experience

We had a wonderful experience. Great wine list, wonderful food and phenomenal service. Menu had many options and several dishes were altered to satisfy our children's picky eating.

Great food and service!

By Brian0ntheGo |

Everything went right with our visit to Bistro Milano. Recommended by our Hilton Hotel, we started out with a great Beef Carpaccio appetizer and followed it with the Lasagna entree. Our food was delicious, properly prepared, and fairly priced. Ramon provided us with professional and attentive service that only added to our positive dining experience. When we visit NYC the next time, we'll include another visit to Bistro Milano!

Pizza like you have never had

By chuckbianco |

My wife and I stopped for dinner as it was recommended by our hotel and because of the charming outside seating area. It didn’t disappoint. While we were going to with more traditional Italian food, the restaurant claimed to make its pizza out of a lighter mixture of flours. My wife chose a traditional margarita and I a topping of tomato’s, onions, and other veggies. Not only was the pizza fabulous but it had much fewer calories. My wife enjoyed it with a nice wine and I with a Stella. Great wait staff and atmosphere.

Great Place

Had lunch on the patio this week on a terrific cool & sunny Fall weather day in NY city. One of the best times to be in NY. Service was great, food was very good and there was a good prix-fix lunch choice. While we did not partake in it, there is a nice indoor bar. Recommend it highly for any occasion.

Good Option

If you are looking for a good Italian option, this could be a good place to check. Food is quite good, wine was very good. Just need to improve the service.

Italian, comfortable dining

By Karen R |

We were seated in reasonable time without a reservation on a Wed. Night. The portions were perfect, if not large. Fresh bread is served with oil and balsamic vinegar available on the table. Would definitely go there again if staying at the Warwick or Hilton.

solid

By RogerZurich |

Highlights: Cocktails and waiter. He was great. Midlights: Food was fine. I recommend the calamari. The lighting is nice but the room is huuuuge. Pizza for kids is fine...don't recommend it for adults. Portion sizes are normal. Lowlights: The menu isn't very exciting. Wine list is limited and overpriced. Why does this restaurant need a TV over the bar. Very distracting.

Service was terrible

By SteveGreece |

We visited Sunday noon for branch/ breakfast. Service was unbelievably slow. On tip of that they got half of what we ordered each time. The side potatoes on our omelette resembled more carrots than potatoes. On top of all that they brought us the bill with the top (20%) tip already included (handwritten on the bill). Finally there was a very annoying noise from an A/C that caused us a headache. I would definitely not recommend.

We had a business dinner here a few weeks ago and the restaurant was shut down for us. They did a fantastic job making the event perfect with an outstanding staff and delicious food. Looking forward to our next event soon!

Good food, great location

By Louise L |

We were staying at Le Parker Meridien on a recent visit and we ate at Bistro Milano at the suggestion of our hotel concierge. It was a beautiful night to dine outside at a casual bistro with good food. Let me say up front that the food and ambiance were great but our snotty and brusque waiter are the reason for only 4 stars. We had good craft cocktails and shared an excellent tuna tartare. The portion was very generous and it was fresh and wonderful. We both had pasta, my Mom had papparadelle with mushrooms and I had a wonderful pasta dish with lobster ( Paccheri All'Aragosta). Everything was wonderful and with the bread we had tons of food. It was exactly what it claimed to be, a family owned neighborhood bistro with al fresco dining. I hate reading reviews where people go on and on about rude wait staff, let's just say it might have been an almost perfect dinner but instead was a place I was ready to leave. There is no need for that on a beautiful fall night. No words were exchanged, he was just extremely impatient when we asked for recommendations or had to confer with each other about our choices. However, try this place, great food, central location and reasonably priced and don't miss the tuna tartare.

What a night !

Been to this wonderful Italian restaurant in the heart of New York many time. This time was as great if not better than at any time in the previous 20 years. Our good friend Ben Hur ( Yes that is his real name) looked after us as he has done so often all the time we have been going. The service is the best in the city, the food just delightful and such a good comprehensive menu. We shall return for our home in Spain as often as we can in the future years. Thank you Ben for everything.

Disappointing.

By Franni2016 |

I have passed this restaurant many times and noticed that it was often very busy. I was on my way to one of my favorite Italian restaurants when I decided to cut my walk short and try Bistro Milano. Bad decision. The service was lovely, but the food was just plain bad. I ordered a glass of Cabernet which was so sweet that I had to send it back. The waiter was more than willing to exchange it for a Chianti which was okay. For my entree I order Linguine Vongole ( linguine with clams). I don't like to be critical but I have to admit it was the worst linguine vongole I ever had, and I've ordered it all over the world. First of all, it wasn't linguine; it was fettuccine. I could recognize the flavors so I can't even guess how it was made. I didn't want to send it back because I had already sent back the cabernet. I ate the clams, which were fresh, I played with the fettuccine and avoided the bread crumbs which were drizzled on top. I did request "not too much garlic," and they honored my request, but I did not recognize any of the other flavors, or should I say non-flavors. I didn't get a hint of butter, wine, oil, salt, or clam sauce. I have no idea what I ate but I left most of it. If you are staying midtown on the west side and have a craving for Italian food, try Patsy's on 56th. It may be crowded but the food is always good.

Delightful

We walked from the Warwick on Jose's recommendation and could not have been more pleased. We had great outdoor seats - luckily under a giant umbrella as it rained - again! Our waiter was fun, funny and so attentive and the food was wonderful as were the drinks - and the chocolate fondue was a huge hit. Would certainly recommend this little jewel.

Nice outdoor terrace with good food

By eleang |

We were walking looking for a place to have lunch and ended up in this restaurant, lunch menu is very reasonable for Manhattan and it was available past 3:00pm, I tried their chickpea soup with mascarpone cheese and almonds: delicious and a pasta with bolognese sauce: very good. Only con the service was a bit slow. The ambiance and decor are very pleasant, I specially loved the outdoor terrace with white tablecloths.

Lovely Sunday Brunch

By Kelly G |

This is a beautiful little bistro with excellent food and friendly service! The warm, chewy bread brought to the table was delicious with olive oil, so I was happy to see the same type of bread on my panino. My son and I both loved the prosciutto panino which came with a lightly tossed mixed salad. My husband devoured his frittata. Our server was delightful! I only wish the weather had been good enough to sit outside under the huge umbrellas, and that we had had time for dessert!

A charming restaurant with great food & service!

By HabsFans |

We loved this restaurant so much, during a recent NYC visit, that we went back again. Service was exceptional, and Ben-Hur was very helpful and attentive. The food was simply amazing. The osso bucco and the scallops were superb! This restaurant is conveniently located in midtown, and close to our hotel, The Warwick. We will definitely go back next time that we are in Manhattan. We highly recommend this restaurant.

Excellent food, great location.

Great Italian meal in midtown. Walk from the Hilton on 6th is less than 5 minutes. Food was superb and the staff were well versed in the menu and wines. Be prepared to make friends as some of the tables are pretty tight.

Great food, friendly atmosphere |

Very nice restaurant. Setting is quite nice. Many tables. Just off 6th avenue. A little hard to find. Just look for 1350 and the restaurant is just on the side. The waiter was great. We had an awesome wine he recommended. Servings are generous. Food is excellent. Pizza , pasta was very good. Not over sauced, very reasonable We enjoyed the dinner very much. I had the special, a lamb ragu. Wonderful. Price was reasonable. I would go back for sure.

Great outdoor Italian

By EdwinVdO |

Having a great Italian restaurant is one thing, one with a beautiful, classy terrace in the middle of Manhattan, NY in a call street is another. We spent a great romantic dinner evening with candle light mid October in the warm Indian summer weather dining outside. The menu is quite genuine Italian. There are not many veggie options but as usual with real Italians they can make you great stuff anyway. Service was also very good. Definitely a place to go back to when in NY.

A very pleasant surprise!

By ammaseConnecticut5 contributions5 of 5 bubbles

A very pleasant surprise! |

We had dinner there late one evening and met the most knowledgeable and friendly bartender, Svillen. I love wine, as does my husband, but Svillan went out of his way to recommend certain wines with our meals. We actually ordered our meal first and he recommended a wine. When we ordered a different wine, he came by and gave us a complimentary glass of the wine he recommended. It changed my world. I have never experienced such a combination before. The wine brought our meal to life. This restaurant was difficult to find, since it has no large sign outside, but I will tell you, it is worth the hunt. The pasta ragu dish is out of this world, and we would travel back to that very restaurant to dine with Svillin as our bartender. I cannot recommend this enough.

Lovely service average food

By travelgal1994 |

They were so nice to seat us without reservations and our server was a delight. The food or the sauces seemed a bit premade so that was a bit of a downer. The tiramisu was lovely. It’s a shame that when one doesn’t order alcohol beverages the service gets a bit rushed. Anyway it was quite nice.

Poor food--wife got sick

By Dr Daniel S |

My wife got poor lasanga, and vomited most of the night and coupled with Diarrhea. The waiter Ben was too aggressive and assumed we were novices, when we have spent half our lives traveling around the world, eating at the best 5 star restaruants. The pasta Vongole was terrible, bland without seasoning, One of the worst dishes I have eaten in many years. Poor mangagemt oversight.

Second Visit. Very disappointing. Cannot recommend.

By LiJo4145 |

We ate at this restaurant in July and experienced great service and good food. However, our visit last was very disappointing. While the food in July was outstanding, the chicken dish that I ordered was almost inedible. It was dry and tasteless. The root vegetable that were served with it were also tasteless. My husband ordered the sea scallops, as he had last summer, and, again, these were not near as tasty as what he had last summer. The service was not as last summer. The servers were less accommodating and attentive as they had been last summer.

Great food and stafff

By Joetzz191 |

I work nearby, and finally stopped in to this welcoming looking restaurant. Stopped in for a lunch while roaming the city, sight seeing and shopping. Staff was warm and welcoming. We loved Ben, our waiter. Good wine list. We spit the grilled octopus app. Tender and tasty, one of the best I've had. My risotto with mushrooms was delicious, just a dash too much of salt. My wife's ravioli special was light and delicious. Dessert, the apple tart, was worth the calories. Lunch prix fix is usually available, but this was a holiday weekend, so we paid full price. The meal was pricy but worth the cost.

Excellent Italian

By Robin S |

We went for lunch based on availability and Open Table reservations. Decor is light and bright as it has a full glass front looking to the sidewalk. The food , top notch Italian. Gnocchi was fresh and the best I have ever had, light and wonderful. Not gummy and doughy like most restaurant gnocchi. Most of the pasta dishes are home made pasta. Lasagna out of this world and the pumpkin ravioli as well. Minestrone was fresh and delicious as well The service lacks a bit. Unexperienced I would say. Not bad. But don't let that stop you from trying if you have a few extra minutes and really want some excellent Italian

Family-owned bistro

By Laurie B |

The warm hospitality & delicious dinner on the terrace was an excellent dining experience! Our beef carpaccio & House made linguine with clams in a white wine sauce were both heavenly along with the bountiful bread basket/olive oil/balsamic vinegar on the table!

Poor, disinterested service and mediocre food

By GGG403 |

Recommended by nearby hotel We were seated outside. Our waiter was rude, and it was virtually impossible to get his attention. We could him watching the Barcelona / Real Madrid soccer match on the TV inside. Even getting a glass of tap water was a challenge. Food was mediocre and slow to arrive - we had several exceptional meals but not this one. Bistro Milano was easily our dining experience on the trip.

Buzzy bistro |

On our last visit we had lunch here so this time we decided to eat in the evening. We had a reservation but we waited quite a while for our table as other customers were taking time to leave the restaurant. The food was good although some of the meat dishes were probably a little overpriced. Having said that the wine was reasonably priced and good. The only downside was the noise level from 2 tables - we had to shout to be heard!

Quick lunch in busy part of city. We enjoyed the pizzas and salad were fresh. Bread was delicious. Nice efficient service

Last minute drop in

By Jamie D |

Ben Hur, believe it or not, was our joyful server who was very personable and solicitous. Our food and drinks were excellent and reasonably priced. Because we were attending a Broadway performance immediately after dinner, the timing of the food was perfect. We would happily return.

Good Fresh Pasta but the rest of the experience was lacking

By myquietstorm |

We popped in for an evening meal for 2 without a reservation and were seated very easily. I ordered a spicy margarita after the first drink I requested on the menu couldn’t be made because they were out of something. The bread was lovely while we waited for our fresh pasta dinner, both were delicious but nothing special or inventive. They were nice enough to change out clams for shrimp with my pasta. My drink didn’t arrive until our main course did, I figured it had been forgotten. I love margaritas and spicy ones at that. It was awful, so spicy I couldn’t drink it and didn’t taste anything like a margarita... oh well I guess I should have known. (No one ever ask how it was....plus it was cleared from the table 3/4’s full). We decided to order the dessert fondue. It was a fun treat. For as many sub waiters they had delivering bread and filling water glass I had to request twice for ours glasses to be filled with water. They were almost hovering when you didn’t need them and no where to be found when you did. If you are listed in the top 500 on TripAdvisor you expect great friendly service and great food not just one or the other.

Surprisingly good

By Mike B |

Doesn't look like much (unpretentious bistro look) but the cooking was exquisite. I had the farfalle with salmon, my wife had the veal scaloppine (which had a marsala type sauce). Both were wonderful. Service was good. Generous portions. We were delighted except for my old fashioned cocktail which was mediocre. Part of the Bice chain.

Very nice place without the NYC crazy prices |

We stopped here thanks to the recommendation of the hotel doorman at the Ritz. The guy knew his stuff. the staff here is very formal and knowledgeable. the food was excellent and not crazy priced like some other places we were thinking about going. after a long day of walking throughout NYC we wanted some good, hot Italian food. we definitely got it here. Ravioli plate was excellent and then the chicken breast was fantastic. excellent salads to start. all without breaking the bank. great place in a good location.

The Bice Imposter Or Just Confusion?

By caymankid |

Ok here is the scoop as explained to me by Bice' NYC. There used to be a Bice' in New York City that was part of the Bice' Restaurants from Naples & Orlando Florida years ago but it closed up a long while back. I was told that Bistro Milano is now called Bice' and recently opened in June 2018 and is part of Bice' from Florida. However this new Bice' in New York is not the the Bice' of Florida web sight as a listed location? The restaurant in New York told me that they just have not had a chance to update the web sight yet and that is quite possible. I called the Bice' in Naples and they did verify that the newly opened Bice' in New York is part of their restaurants however the staff/chefs are from Bistro Milano. Basically it sounds like a licensing deal to me for using the name. In fact our bill even says Bistro Milano on the top and in little tiny letters on the bottom it says Bice'. See my photo. I dined here with my wife and family on July 5, 2018. I must say it was a big disappointment and I highly suggest the folks from Naples get to New York as soon as possible and train the chefs and staff cause they are not doing anything to help your great reputation. The Branzino was average, the Pappardelle was horrible, and the Chicken Parm was just okay but nothing special. After dining at the Naples and Orlando locations several times there is no way I would ever return here. The service is not the same and the food definitely without question is not even comparable and the menu is different for sure. Its just a big disappointment. As I said before the Bice' folks from Naples and Orlando need to get to NYC as soon as possible and tweak the menu and train the staff cause the place is in trouble and it wont make it again. Otherwise this is just a Bice' imposter to me. Off the bucket list!

Nice Restaraunt - not great

By JimW551 |

Seven of us went here for dinner. Prices are reasonable, especially for New York. I had a spaghetti bolognese, Creme brûlée and glass of cab. All were average. Everyone else enjoyed their meals a lot - especially the two people who ordered salmon.

Me and my friend had dinner here one night during our stay in New York. The restaurant is set out really nicely very clean and spacious. Birthday Dinner |

My husband and I went here for my birthday dinner while we were in the city for the weekend. The food was delicious! We also got wine and dessert which were both good as well. They even brought over 2 glasses of free champagne for my birthday. Other than the fact that the waiter was somewhat rude and never smiled once, we had a good time.

Tasty! Price fixed menu available

By Jay V |

Outdoor seating was also available given the warm weather! They offer a special lunch and dinner prefix menu 7 days a week - though you may find yourself needing to ask for it. Plenty of options! Enjoyed their caprese appetizer, salmone that was perfectly pan seared medium and their chocolate gelato. Service has some room for improvement

easy going place with delicious italian food

By jdep9762 |

I eat at this resteraunt 15-20 times per year. I have never had a bad meal here. It is not an upscae or overly decorated place; when you walk in your impression will be " pretty plain in here"; however, the food is very good quality, excellent menu with a wide variety of choices, and the prices for a midtown Manhatten rest. are fairly reasonable. The wine list is good, you can spend anywhere from $20 to $150 on a bottle. I am an expert on finding $30-$40 wines, and this place has a very good selection The mushroom risotto is excellent, and the minestrone soup is light and delightful. In the warmer months there are outdoor tables as well. I wouldn't say this is a "Special evening place", but if you want a dependable, relaxed, good food, good selection midtown Italian resteraunt with out spending a months pay, this is a go to place

Every time I visit New York, I go and eat at Bistro Milano! The location of the restaurant is great, as well as the food! However, the very best is the service. Waiters are great and they make you and your family feel great. They speak different languages, Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, and for sure English. I always have a great time there!!!

My wife and I ate here in July, 13th probably. I signed the credit card for 122.56, including tip. I was billed 129.56. I wrote the restaurant twice asking for refund, no response. Guess they think a southern hick won't notice.

Disappointing food and VERY slow service

By Carrie Jean G |

My husband and I popped in here for lunch having perused the sidewalk menu. A waiter saw us looking and it was very clear that we had decided to stay but he walked off and ignored us. He looked back twice but didn't bother coming to seat us. We found another member of staff who was more friendly and gave us a good table. Our server was lovely and the drinks came very fast, however, we waited FORTY FIVE minutes for two chicken caesar salads. The restaurant was probably a quarter full so the kitchen would not have been run off its feet but even if it had, 45 minutes for a salad?!. When the food finally did arrive it was a sad little dish of some shredded lettuce with barely any dressing and a few anaemic pieces of chewy chicken on the side of the plate. No finesse whatsoever. I asked for more dressing which came quickly enough but the dish was in no way worth $20.00. The place seemed nice but the wait spoiled it as did the lacklustre food.

Great New Look, Great Food

On our last trip to New York in June to celebrate our wedding anniversay, we ate at an old favorite Bistro Milano. Much of the staff is the same. The interiror has been redone and it looks wonderful. The food was delicious. Our appitizer was hot and started the meal off well. We had chicken and a salad and it was the best Italian we have had in awhile. The dessert was the perfect ending to the meal. Our waiter was friendly and kept the pace of the meal moving without rushing us. I would recommend anyone staying in the area stop in for a meal.

Good but not great!

By Hege M |

Midtown is not a dining destination for me, but we walked by this place very hungry and decided to take a chance. There's no need to beat around the bush. The food is good, but is not great. We had Frittura di Calamari which was not too greasy and the Pappardelle di Spinaci Ai Fungi was good. But the bread was stale and the wine sadly below par (I tried two) and these are details that set restaurants apart. It’s nice to be able to sit outside, but the noise from the traffic is a bit of a damper. But hey it’s midtown.

Very good food and service

By DerekParsons |

My wife and I eat here on a Sunday evening and the weather was warm enough to eat outside. The restaurant is on a side street off Avenue of the Americas and there was very little traffic. The food was very good. I had the rack of lamb and it was one of the most tasteful pieces of lamb I have ever had. My wife had the salmon which was also very good.

Food as excellent!

By Elaine D |

We were visiting New York for Thanksgiving weekend, staying at the Hilton midtown and asked for a good restaurant that had Italian we could walk to as we arrived after 8;00 p.m. They recommended Bistro Milano, for the exception of having a very difficult time of finding it simply because it was dark and their sign was not lite up the food, service and ambiance was fabulous! I highly recommend this restaurant.

Good for Tourists

By Mark L |

Tables are too small, restaurant is crowded and lacking in ambiance. There are so many better choices for Italian in the area that it is hard to get excited about this place. Melon with prosciutto was dry (admittedly off season for melon) and Caesar with salmon was mediocre at best. Tiramisu was a treat but all-in-all I would choose someplace else.

Enjoyed our last dinner in New York |

We ended up eating here on our last night in New York. Our meals were very good and we were quite happy. It was a Sunday and they did seem a little short staffed but they tried very hard to ensure we enjoy our food and our evening, and we did. I even ordered the wrong wine and they took it back and allowed me to order another at no extra charge and did not make me feel bad at all. Very nice of them considering it was my fault. Thanks!

Stumbled on this bistro as I was walking near my hotel. I was attracted by its modern decor & its authentic Italian menu. I am so glad I decided to eat there as we loved everything about it. Our waiter was extremely welcoming, friendly & knowledgeable. Service was attentive but not overbearing. All our questions were answered politely. Each course was superb. I must especially praise my strawberry arugula appetizer. Mouthwatering! My pasta & my friend's salmon was excellent. We sat for ages drinking wine & enjoying the summer night. It is a great choice for an Italian meal in midtown Manhattan.

Authentic little Itally in the centre of NYC

By Nico J |

Cutting a long story short: This is REAL Itallian food, served by Itallians (vabene!) for a nice price. Instead od trying to talk you to some ridiculous and totally overpriced wine, Ben was happy with the Sauvignon Blanc we aimed for and the wine was just nice. Food was a class on its own and I highly recommend the Burrata and the Pinsa Milano. Perfect value for the money! We have been a group of initial 3 PAX and have been joined by two more persons. It has been no problem at all and all of us enjoyed the time we spent at this „little Itally“ in the centre of NYC

Stunned by the service.......

By Denise J |

Choose Bistro Milano for lunch bc it was across from our hotel and was recommended by Hilton staff as a place where our elevated rewards could be used. Our initial encounter with the hostess was great - she was able to seat us fairly quickly as we did not have reservations. Once we were seated things went downhill. A server, let's call him A., inquired about the type of water we would like- upon answering regular tap water he seemed as if he was upset - I believe that he actually rolled his eyes. What happened next was unbelievable- he never came back to the table - after what felt like 15-20 mins the woman that we encountered earlier left her post and came over to take our order. A. never inquired whether our food was satisfactory ( no one did for that matter). We chose not to order dessert and coffee. Upon receiving our bill and seeing A's name as the server we had no choice but to ask for the manager because no way was I going to tip A. I directed the manager to split our 20+ % tip between the staff that served us our bread and water. I have written approximately 50 reviews and eaten in restaurants from NYC to Prague/ from Pat's steaks in Philly to Thomas Keller's Per Se in New York and I have never given a review where I felt the need to let perspective customers know how rude and unprofessional a waiter was! Kudos to the chef because the food was good, but New York has too many restaurants to choose from to be treated poorly. I also plan to inform the Hilton about this encounter.

Great find

By Mark G |

Hit up TA for something quick and easy. This place popped up and we weren't disappointed. Fresh made pasta in all of our dishes. Love that in any restaurant that calls themselves Italian. A must I think. I went with a house favorite. I can't remember the style of pasta. But it was excellent and light. It had their basic ragu on it. Meaty and full Of flavor. We were all happy and pleased. Their different t breads they bring out are a wonderful addition. I don't think you will be sorry you went here. Everything on the menu looked great and what I saw on all the other tables made my decision more difficult when it was time to order.

Our Favorite NYC Restaurant

By Anne S10 contributions5 of 5 bubbles

Our Favorite NYC Restaurant |

My husband and I eat here at least once every time we go to NYC. We've never been disappointed. The entrees are fabulous, which makes it difficult to decide what to get. The pumpkin ravioli is so delicious, it was actually put on the menu as a seasonal dish but customers complained when it was removed....now a year round entree. Ben-Hur is always so friendly and helpful when choosing entrees and wine. The service is beyond exceptional, even when the restaurant is packed the service is as if you are the only ones there. Absolutely love this restaurant!

Convenient midtown Italian restaurant

By edkiii |

I have eaten here several times always due to convenience. The food is good and the service acceptable. I would rate this restaurant good and above average but trip advisor does not offer that option. The ambience is certainly better than just average with white tablecloths and a hostess.

Rude Waiter!

By BSteveH |

My wife and I are visiting from London and dined at this restaurant tonight. After an expensive but average meal - the waiter did not know how to use a pepper mill! - I paid the cheque and I was accused of not leaving enough tip! I was told that it might be enough in the U.K. but not in the USA. I left 14%, which I though to be more than enough for the food and service we had. Even if the staff thought I should have given more, how rude to tell the customer! I certainly will never go there again and make sure to tell other friends/colleagues to stay away!!

Excellent food, service -- and it's relatively quiet

By Glo G |

Excellent fod with very good service. Papardelle outstanding -- large portion. Carpacio and fried calamari delicious (with some shriimp in with the Calamari. Ben Hur, our waiter, was attentive yet not "dull". RElatively quiet restaurant with lovely outdoor settings if the weather is good. We've been three times and enjoyed each time.... Eggplant parmigiana good but a little too much zucchini. I am a traditionalist. Cappucino very good. So was the lasagna. Tables and meals available at the bar... I do wish they didn't have a tv in the restaurant... it takes away from the classy atmosphere.

Delicious food

Awesome!!!!

Rating 1000... in addition to the excellent food, the Ben-Hur metro is an "apart" show... we love it and recommend it to everyone... we will even get to know the other operations in the USA (West Palm Beach and Orlando); and, who knows, the first in Italy

Excellent spot for lunch!

Came upon this place by accident, very hangry and had almost given up on finding some place that could accommodate food intolerances. Then the joyful Ben-Hur (and his sound effects) arrived at our table and made everything better! He was very knowledgable about ingredients, and helped me create a delicious and filling paleo lunch - gluten, dairy, and nightshade-free in an italian restaurant! And it was a half-price Easter weekend special. Bonus! Our table enjoyed the spinach salad, the miste salad, butternut squash soup, pizzas - everything was nicely done.

Yummy Brunch Menu!

Yummy Brunch Menu! |

We enjoyed such a tasty brunch here today to wrap-up a weekend in the city. Hubs enjoyed the savory and fresh Tuscan omelette, while I indulged in the lemon ricotta pancakes, balanced off with a savory side of perfect eggs. What a pleasant dining room with stunning cherry blossom branches and kind service! We will return soon to try other dishes.

Large Group for lunch

We recently stopped in for lunch after a long morning of walking around the MoMA. We were greeted by the hostess who was very friendly. We had a table of 12 and were promptly seated. Our waiter seemed to be training someone, but never really said so. He took our drink order and food order but then we didn't see him again until the bill came. The waiter in training was great and very attentive. We were given complimentary bread with olive oil & balsamic drizzle. I ordered the sea bass special which was amazing!! Everyone was very pleased with their food. They did offer 1/2 portions of their pasta which was great since we didn't want to fill up too much. They are a little on the pricey side, but the food was delicious and really that's what you'd expect in Midtown. A memorable lunch and a great day!

Pleasant surprise - very good Italian eatery

By 69tiger888 |

This restaurant is right up a block from my hotel .A completely jammed outdoor dining area ( warm day . Eight of us ( three kids ) sat inside , pleasant decor , polite staff . The bell boy was slow in serving water and bread , we have to ask twice . The waiter , an very fine and energetic Italian man , very fun and pleasant ( my wife spoke Italian with him ) The food arrived slowly , prosciutto with ham , and calamari appetizer took 25 minutes , both nice . The ministrone very tasty and full of veggie , kids love. . The main fish arrive in a funny order . My son arrived late( 30 min ). His pasta arrived before all our dishes ! We were a bit upset as the kids very hungry as we asked at least two times . The waiter despite very nice , seemed to have no control over the kitchen . When the food finally we arrived ( almost one hour ) , our anger melted away ,as the food very Italian and taste exceptionsl good . The Oslo buco risoto melted in my mouth , veal Milanese's done perfectly , as are the pastas ( vongole liguini , spagheti with tomata and basel , and Bolognesi sauce ,) plus nice fresh salad . We have to leave in a hurry , as kids getting sleepy , will try desert next time . Wine list is decent . Will come again , but cannot be in a hurry !

What is their name?

What is the name of this restaurant? We walked past at lunch time and the menu looked good, we booked a table for two at 8.00 pm. We were given a card with the name Bice, all booked no problem Sir. On arrival back at our hotel we checked the card and on the web, and found the restaurant had shut for financial reasons a few years ago. The card showed a different address to the restaurant we had walked by. The internet told us that Bice had been the in place to go to in New York a few years ago. I decided to walk back and check we were not living in a parallel universe. The restaurant is actually called Bistro Milano. Any way we decided to give it ago and we both returned at 8.00 pm. The inside of the restaurant was shut, due to remodeling. We had not be told this before, and were seated outside. The weather was cold at the end of May.If we had known we would be outside, we would have worn warmer clothing. Overall not a good experience for our first visit. The service was ok, I felt it was a bit over tactile for both men and women. Food was actually good to average, but all the afore mentioned issues detracted from this.

Bistro Milano, 55th Street just East of Avenue of the Americas, New York City

Bistro Milano occupies a pleasant space on 55th Street with a nice set back area for outdoor dining. The service is agreeable and efficient. The food is very good. Being only one block away from City Center, thuis is a a good choice for dinner before a performance.

Quiet dinner with husband and kids

Quiet dinner with husband and kids |

We went to Bistro Milano on the advice of our hotel concierge a few weeks ago while in New York with our children . Our kids are 6 and 8, well-behaved, but still kids, so I was pleased that we were greeted enthusiastically. The wait staff was attentive and helpful, and the owner came and spoke to us several times both to help pick out wine, and talk about the menu. He also asked what they could prepare for the kids, since he knew kids can sometimes be picky and they don't have a dedicated children's menu. Luckily, our kids are pretty easy to please, so they chose some pasta with marinara and cheese - perfect! They also loved the bread choices. The food for adults was delicious and beautifully presented. I believe the restaurant is geared more towards adults, and is business casual in dress, but is friendly and flexible. I wouldn't recommend lots of very young or rowdy kids - there are better places for that atmosphere - but they were very friendly and accommodating with us.

Great food, substandard service. A disappointment.

After reviewing Trip Advisor reviews, as Il Corso was unavailable for lunch, I booked Bistro Milano. We arrived for our reservation, and seated after a few minutes. After fifteen minutes, our server appeared and asked if we were ready to order?!? On the run, she took four order for the Prix Fixe menu, a pizza order, but did not wait for our appetizer order. She promptly returned with our sparkling water, The first dish arrived soon after, Then we waited for a half hour for our main course. At no time did our server return until main course dishes had been cleared. Whenever served, no one who had what dish. Our coffee orders were incorrect--iced coffee, luke-warm regular coffee, although I later had been charged for the lattes ordered. After waiting for another 20 minutes after finishing our dessert, I finally received my request check. I did not bother to quibble over the inaccurate charges. Food quality is good, but not exceptional. We did not find the service acceptable. Only one chance at a first impression.

Great Meal

Our second visit to this restaurant and the meal was exceptional in every respect. Waiter was experienced, friendly and very helpful. Polenta appetizer was good as was the arugula salad. Salmon entree was well prepared and presented.

Eating outside is the best bit

By francois jacques |

Pavement eating. Service a bit slow/confused- wrong water, wrong beer, ages to order (despite not being busy). But it was super friendly and it didn't deter our enjoyment. Food was ok- lamb was nice- but over seasoned and done with a heavy rather than light touch. Pizza was ok but scone base and a limited choice. Overall would go back, would describe t as good enough and certainly not bad but not exceptional.

Loved it two years ago - not this time

By ElizaOnHolidays |

We loved this restaurant two years ago when we visited NYC, so much so we decided to go this trip. Sadly it was terrible this time. The food was average and completely lacked flavor. Last time it was packed and this time there was barely a soul in there. It was quite, depressing and nothing like we remembered. We sadly won’t be returning on our next trip when there’s an Italian restaurant 3 doors down that was superb the next night.

Nice Lunch outdoors

By iliketotravel123 |

I had lunch here with a friend. She recommended Bistro Milano after several visits. We both ordered from the summer prefix menu. I had the salmon. My friend has the scallops dish. We both enjoyed our meals. See photos. We were disappointed in the spinach salad. I had to add oil and vinegar. It was all spinach, maybe one strawberry cut in pieces and a small piece of goat cheese. I did not see any toasted almonds or crispy prosciutto. Service was very attentive. We took our time and our water glasses were kept full at all times. My friend had the tiramisu for dessert. She really liked it. I would definitely return but would not order the spinach salad.
