The Chef extraordinaire, Pascal and his lovely wife Virginie Petiteau make a dynamic team. This is hands down one of our FAVE [secret hideaway] places in NYC! The food is consistently SUPERB along with the service. The neighborhoody Sutton place crowd is relaxed, chic and friendly. Their terrace is romantic and cozy. When my husband and I want to guarantee a great time for our guests we take them here. Magnifique!

We visited friends who live in the area and recommended this cozy restaurant. We got the impression that many regulars come here as there were a number of single individuals enjoying their meal at the bar. The atmosphere is refined and relatively quiet. You can actually hear each other! The food was good but not remarkably good. The rack of lamb was prepared well and was nice and juicy. Two of us enjoyed the gnocchi. Service was efficient and professional.

This is a refined French restaurant that serves very traditional dishes and others that are more novel. ALL are incredibly tasty. I recommend the escargots, the mussels, and definitely, the filet mignon. Probably the best filet mignon I have ever had.

We ate there multiple times and never had a meal we didn't love. Frog legs and snails are superb. The service is excellent and sitting outside in the early evening is delightful.

Excellent French food. Peaceful, elegant atmosphere. We go often for a fine dinner for two. Romantic for couples; good unhurried meal for friends who want to talk over a delicious dinner and good wine.

The Bistro Vendome is one of the reasons the food scene in NYC is so great. In any other city, it would be considered a top restaurant. In New York, it's a neighborhood highlight. You feel like you are entering an enclave of Paris, with an all-French staff (with a French attitude). The food is generally excellent; we especially enjoyed the lamb and roast suckling pig, as well as the bacon-frisee salad. (The lobster salad is skippable.) The service is smart and efficient. If you are staying on Roosevelt Island (which has lousy restaurants), this is only 1 1/2 blocks away from the tram stop.

A welcoming space, attentive authentic French wait staff, terrific cuisine, reasonable wine prices. The signature entree is the seared scallops; the signature desert is the tarte tatin (apple tart). We will be back

For a special occasion we opted to hit the local pricey restaurant in our neighborhood on a summer evening. The Bistro offers outdoor seating above its kitchen, mid-section seating on the way to the outdoors, and bar stools. We couldn't get an outdoor table and wound up in the mid-section which had too much noise to hear and too little light to see. We ordered mussels and skirt steak, plus a grand bottle of wine to celebrate. The mussels were good and well cleaned but very simple. No garlic, alas. The steak was fine but despite the little pot of bearnaise sauce not distinguished. Lots of French fries that we shared, although there was no stodge with the mussels. In fact too many French fries. The salads were okay and the wine was, as expected, wonderful. But that became a problem. We finished our meal and thanks to the pile of French fries which we both nibbled (which came with the steak) we were full. But we still had wine to drink. It was about 9:30 pm and there were plenty of people still dining, but there was absolutely NO ONE waiting for a table. Despite the lack of demand, we twice had to stop waiters passing through between the kitchen down the stairs and the outdoor dining room behind us from taking our unfinished bottle of a $60-or-so wine away from our table. They didn't try to pour it to make us move on; they tried to take it away. This has never before happened to us at a smart restaurant in New York City or elsewhere. It is just a sign of bad waiter training. There is no reason to tolerate this at the Vendome price bracket. Moreover upon due reflection we decided the food was not more than mediocre. It was standard fast fare, and nothing that had been prepared with care or time. So Non merci au Bistro Vendome. We can dine better and cheaper in our neighborhood. PS Serge which I wrote about for this site seems to have closed and gone out of business.

An off the beaten path location that makes it possible to be spacious and bright with sunlight. The surprise was the excellence of the menu. I published Craig Claiborne and Mimi Sheraton. Either would have been delighted with the light, perfectly cooked and seasoned prix fixe lunch I had here. It was reasonable, and filling, and world class. One of NYC's best, laid out with the modesty of a bistro.

Dinner, at a little bit of ma France bien-aimée, in Midtown NYC. But not quite as midtown as one might expect for a classy, Michelin-rated and “trendy nightlife” restaurant. It’s actually far off, almost on the east side between 1st and York Avenues, and just a short walk from the East River. Go ahead ~ take a stroll down the street and check out the broad vista of the Queens waterfront across those swirling, dark waters. Quite a nice spot and view, though one can’t actually get down to the waterside. The restaurant occupies the lower three levels of an elegant NYC townhouse (wonder who has the rest?) and is split up between pleasant, plainly and functionally-well decorated indoor spaces, in interesting and visually connected multi-levels ~ and an outdoor terrace for better weather. There is the mandatory, huge, wooden bar counter protecting ranks of bottles arrayed up and across an inside wall. The back end features a staggering, slanted glass wall that pours brightness into the dining space, with a view of the Queensboro bridge approach ramp out there in the near distance …and bridge-bound traffic rushing silently by. Being so far from midtown and in a primarily residential area, the sidewalks are cleaner and less-littered than in most parts of the Big City. Parking is a bear even here: watch out for the posted restrictions. Walking in is akin to entering a private house… in France, perchance? ..and one is greeted by very efficient and polite “French” gentlemen who (speak French) whisk you to your appointed tables and take care of your culinary desires for the day (…or night) and make sure everything that you pay for is exceptional, and exceptionally French (and then you can go back home to your crummy New York life.) So we arrived: wife, friend and friend’s son in tow. That’s 4 (*cha-ching*) and were greeted in French and seated, in the lower level space, not far from the aforesaid view of the bridge. And the servers came, spoke English, took our drink orders, and went away…. leaving us to enjoy a chilled bottle of Cotes du Rhone ($37) and contemplate our menus, over fresh, chewy bread-basket bits. Very nice, thus far. And French food: aha! Me wife’s favorite cuisine ~ which is why we’re here, OK ? Starters: a great and hearty bowl of fish soup ($12) served with swiss cheese, croutons and a rouille sauce garnish, and two bowls of also excellent and smooth vichyssoise ($9) which is usually cold, creamy and dense broth. Both really, really good, fresh and nuanced with the creams and herbs. Mains: we had lobster salad (a $21 special) ~ juicy and tender meat, lightly done and served over crisp, leafy green vegetables, a steak tartar ($27) ~ a bit oversalted with French (of course) fries and mixed greens, and a duck confit ($29) ~ very good and tender though fatty leg (almost all duck-meat is fatty) with crisped skin and served over sautéed and browned potatoes & mushrooms and a truffle jus ~ just delicious. Desserts: profiteroles ($10). Just where this name comes from, I don’t know, but I know someone profits from them. I do not usually order desserts, but from the sounds the others made I guess these were really good. All made right here in France. The portions are all pretty ok.. which is a change from many French places we have tried. Most leave one wanting more in a short while, or are trying to get you to order more dishes. So ~ Overall? …very good. Expensive? …yes, very! Really fantastic? …maybe.

Terrific Sutton Place Bistro This wonderfully authentic, cozy French Bistro is the “real deal”, and perfect for even the most discerning Francophile. The warm, very French and affable host sets the tone for a lovely experience. The staff is also warm and very French. All of the appetizers are delicious, especially, the Fish soup, beet carpaccio with goat cheese and escargot. The mussels in various, delightful preparations, scallops with risotto, are very tasty. The menu changes seasonally, with options maximizing the freshest availability of in season foods. (Summer brings soft shell crabs and another fish option.) The desserts are reminiscent of the best patisseries in Paris, especially the apple tart. The staff is lovely, from the great host, to the friendly servers, to the very attentive bus staff. We have returned to Bistro Vendome again and again and again and every time we visit we thoroughly enjoy the cozy, and inviting atmosphere, the authentic, tasty, French fare, and the warm, accommodating staff. With truly good, authentic, French food, a warm and inviting host and staff, and a very cozy atmosphere, Bistro Vendome is our absolute favorite neighborhood “go to” spot.

...this restaurant if you're looking for a place to have a satisfying bistro-kinda dinner. We...my wife and I and another couple...chose Bistro Vendome for dinner since we like to meet at this kind of place, which incidentally, we chose after looking at reviews of a number of them in TripAdvisor. None of us had ever been here before. Each of us at the table ordered different dishes so we had a good variety in terms of both appetizers and entrees. I can say that the escargot was the best I'd ever had here in the USA and I do order it very frequently. My wife said the same of it. As a main course, My wife had the Mussels Normande and she said her mussels were "the best she'd ever had," and she orders mussels in French restaurants often. I was really impressed with the appearance of the rack of lamb that one of those at our table ordered...and he said they were excellent in portion size and taste as well as the beautiful appearance of the dish. I was told by the fourth person at the table (my favorite cousin) that the scallop entree that she had was delicious. Oh, and my french fries that I ordered as a side dish were excellent as well, and the same was said of the onion soup that one of those at the table had as an appetizer. I should also mention that the one dessert that the other couple shared...an apple tart..was, in a word, perfect...I know because they said so and I tasted it! I myself had a glass of monbazillac for my "after" and it was a very nice one so I wasn't disappointed as had been the case from time to time in other French restaurant dinner experiences elsewhere. If I have anything to criticize this restaurant for, I suppose there are two things. First, as a main course, I ordered the confit, which is a favorite of mine (don't tell my doctor!) and it was a bit dry as opposed to moistly crispy, which is the way I prefer it and I believe to be the generally accepted standard of this dish. Also, it was served on a bed of white beans…something that I’m not accustomed to. But, I have to say, that the dish was really delicious and I enjoyed it very much nevertheless. So if this is “criticism” it ought to be taken as the mildest kind and, of course, it would be limited to a singular dish on the menu. The only other criticism I might note is that while the service was for the vast, most part fine, it did take a bit longer than it should have to bring beverages from the bar to the table. But, even still, the good of our dinner at this nice restaurant so far overshadowed these "shortfalls." that I will still say that this is an excellent choicet for a casual bistro-style dinner.

We went there on a friday night. The restaurant was 80% full. We had oysters, ok. Then escargot, not bad. My wife had mussels. Fantastic and i had steak tartare one of the best i had including the ones i had in France. Fries could have been better but no worries. Apple tart was very good so does the bottle of Medoc we had. The service was great and very friendly. Great choice if you want a classic French dinner. had.

Tucked away on a quiet nondescript street on Manhattan's mid-East Side, Vendome is nothing less than a classic French Bistro, all the way down to servers with genuine accents and pommes frites that come without ketchup. (Though available on request.) Onion soup is excellent, burgers great, chicken nicely done, and the mussels in white wine and garlic sauce are a fan favorite: no need to order them, the smell fills the air and the taste buds. Cozy seating on three levels, with a solarium room and patio that are delights in nice weather. You enter at a bar often filled with regulars who are clearly, discreetly, having a fine time. Make a reservation - you'll be glad you did. Reasonably priced for mid-Manhattan.

Some places are valuable for the location, the decoration or the food, here this is a mix of all this. Nice location with a view on the téléphérique, a beautiful decoration and the food is just to die for. Of course, this is a French atmosphere but a good one. Pascal in the kitchen and Virginie on the floor welcomes you just like at home. Just a perfect night. My hint, try the asparagus, the duck and l’île flottante.

A dinner party for 25? No problem. Great French food, lovingly served by friendly wait-staff? They seem to specialise in it. No hurry, no fuss? You betcha. This was a great, great choice for an evening with 24 friends. A little cramped in the seating area, but once we were installed nobody complained. A succession of faultless French dishes, finely crafted but no stinting on the helpings. Excellent wine, too, which, like the food, seemed to keep flowing all night. Nothing was too much trouble, nothing was hurried. Great French food, minus the pretension you often find in France. Very highly recommended.

This is one of the best French Restaurants in NYC. We go here a lot because the escargots are amazing, the profiteroles (great dessert), the steak with the green sauce, the mussels, pate, salad are all amazing. It is like eating in France. The wines are great too. Great family run business and tough to get a table.

This is an excellent French Bistro that is elegant without being pretentious. Eat at the bar by yourself or come with a crowd. Either way you will have a good meal and a good time.

Authentic French Bistro This authentic, cozy, VERY French Bistro serves French favorites in a charming setting. While the staff does try hard (they are warm, accommodating, polite and very French) service is so spotty and often inattentive. (I would not dine here if you are on a schedule or trying to make a show. Many of the pre-pandemic staff seem to be gone, leaving those seasoned staff members, who remain, understandably overwhelmed and responsible for EVERYTHING. Our server was also the host, tended bar, took take out orders and reservations and remained polite and pleasant through it all.) That said the food is quite good. The appetizers are very tasty, especially, the Fish soup, beet carpaccio with goat cheese and escargot. The mussels in various, preparations, scallops and ratatouille are very tasty. As there are no vegetarian entrees on the menu, our very pleasant, Herculean server asked the chef to create a vegetarian pasta, which was yummy. The menu changes seasonally, with options maximizing the availability of in season foods. (Summer brings soft shell crabs and a cold salmon option.) The desserts are reminiscent of patisseries in Paris, especially the apple tart. We do enjoy Bistro Vendome, the cozy (albeit EXTREMELY hot on this summer evening) atmosphere, and the authentic, tasty, French fare. With truly good, genuinely French food, an accommodating (although very overwhelmed) staff and a cozy atmosphere, Bistro Vendome is a good choice for a tasty French meal.

Very enjoyable experience from the moment we arrived met by the very friendly gentleman, sorry I didn’t ask for his name. All the staff were very pleasant. Nice selection of French cuisine. I especially enjoyed the escargot, vichyssoise, duck confit, raspberry gratin and profiteroles. Nice selection of cocktails and wine. The restaurant was packed which is always a good sign.

French style unpretentious bistro. Very pleasant staff, tables are far apart and back ground noise is low. Pleasant dining area includes open air courtyard in the back. Extensive wine by the glass list My mussels marinière were average and accompanied by good French fries

Lovely atmosphere in a quaint neighborhood setting. Lots of locals dine here. Food is exceptional. Service is great. Stefan, Baptiste and Morgan run the restaurant efficiently! The beet carpaccio is delicious! Can't go wrong with mussels! All of the food is wonderful! An overall excellent experience!

We went for the first time. We really like French food but it’s hard to find excellent, bistro food. Some places think they are serving it but it’s faux French and expensive. This is a true bistro that has everyone’s typical favorites. Appetizers great onion soup, escargot and pate to name a few. Entree’s fish, chicken, steaks, steak tartare. Deserts floating island was great. Service was excellent. Ambiance is very nice, a quaint feel. The only problem is we drove and parking is difficult with no garages nearby. We will return.

This is a very attractive 'bistro' in midtown Manhattan with excellent food. Start with the chicken liver which was outstanding and as a main dish the crispy duck confit, the best I have ever eaten. Even the nager steak was very well done. Great food, great service in New York.

Onion soup, of course, very good. Dover sole, soft shell crab dish, artichoke salad, tuna tartar and bacon salad ordered...all excellent. Main courses @mid $20.00 range. Request the upstairs patio for under the stars experience. All in all, an engaging eating experience.

We treated our NYC hostess to brunch at Bistro Vendome and wow, what selection for the pre-fixe or al la carte ordering. How often is venison on the menu anywhere? The intimate atmosphere is bright and cheery with outside dining if requested. We were not rushed, enjoyed every minute and will return as we are happy to have been introduced to this fine spot.

A lovely local restaurant as one might find in the back streets of Paris. The chef knows how to cook!! and the ambience and service superb. A minor drawback is the noise level.

I have probably eaten here 5 times over the last 6-7 years. The food is really quite good, classic French preparations. Their salads are outstanding along with the selection of fish entrees. This last visit I had the artichoke salad and Cornish hen and both were superb.

My friend and I stopped by for a quick lunch. We were seated immediately and although the menu had what appeared to be a nice selection of dishes, we both opted for a chicken Cesar salad. What a treat. The salad arrived in 5 mins with a generous portion of nicely dressed salad with beautifully cooked thin strips of chicken breast on top. It was a perfect quick business lunch that left us satisfied but not stuffed. Further the staff were friendly and efficient. I will be back.

The food at Bistro Vendome is exactly what is expected in this type of restaurant: French authentic cuisine without too much fuss. It was excellent and the atmosphere is warm and friendly. It also had a good ratio price/quality.

French atmosphere. Pleasant waiters and attentive. Need to book even during the week . Lovely décor....... a little Paris in NYC.

We booked at BV for dinner recently hoping for a charming restaurant with really good food. It delivered on all counts. We sat at a lovely table on the back terrace on a perfect New York evening - the city all around - you could hear it - but with our small paradise as refuge. Great menu. Excellent cooking. Good service. The obviously happy diners enjoying the food and the evening included two families with kids. It seems to be that sort of place - welcoming, unpretentious with good casual French food. BV will be one of our go-to places from now on.

Quiet, Unrushed, Great Service, Exquisite Food. If I closed my eyes I would swear I was somewhere in the left bank in Paris. I had the chicken pate to start and stripe bass for a main course. BOTH IMPECCABLE. I can't wait to go back.

At this Sunday we were with a party of five. We took only the entrees. Because we are from Europe we were curious about the "typical" european dishes. The Black Angus hanger steaks ( blue ) were excellent. One of our party said: This meat was perfect and if I could prepare in this way I would eat every day this food. But also the lamb rack was prepared rare and excellent. The french fries were served with genuine mayonaise! The desserts like creme brulee excellent and the trou normand (apple sorbet and an small glass with calvados) was refreshing. The only rose wine ( French) was of good quality. The staff friendly. For us a "trouvaille".

Last night was one of the best dinners my wife and I have had for some time. Why? The seasonal special soft shell crabs were divine; my scallops were terrific, as always; the CA Sauvignon Blanc was delightful; and the desert apple tatin was a great way to conclude our evening.

This restaurant was recommended by a friend, and so we decided to try it. We were very happy with the choice. We had a bacon-beet saladm and a tuna tartare salad, both excellent. The entree was a scallop dish, which was superb. The desert, a chocolate tart, was also excellent. Atmosphere is bistro, quite busy, but conversation is not impaired. Wonderful wine list.

In contrast to nearby paname, this restaurant calls itself a bistro and means it. This is well done and well served classic French food. They chairs and ambience also are very French. The frisée salad with chunks of bacon and a poached egg is right out of Paris. The chairs themselves are classic paris bistro chairs and they're comfortable. The outdoor courtyard is lovely. The desserts are great - floating island! Is it perfect, no. Is it well worth the trip, yes. Really nice servers.

This little French place has a lovely upper level terrace which was the perfect spot for our dinner. Service could be more attentive (waiters could check back more frequently and watch for body language signs), but the food was excellent. We enjoyed the cold artichoke salad and the special avocado mousse with crab meat served in a martini glass. Lots of crab and both pretty and light! For entrees, we tried the duck confit (pronounced very good) and the broiled branzino with braised fennel and red peppers. The branzino was perfectly cooked and the dish was marvelous. Were about 5 or 6 red and white wines each by the glass. We'll add this spot to our must return list!

If you are not a neighborhood "regular" they treat you like they are doing you a favor letting you eat there. A couple of weeks ago I make a reservation for dinner with a friend. They sat us at a table at the end of a long table that was having a party. No other tables were "available" so we walked out. We decided to try it again last night. The attitude started when my friend had a drink, but I didn't. Then we didn't want appetizers. Our (expensive) fish was good, but not fantastic. We didn't want dessert. We got a "look." We left at 20% tip and got a dirty look when we left. I would never go there again, and it is in my neighborhood! There are too many restaurants who are happy to have you!

What a treat. In typical NYC restaurant fashion, this place is long and narrow - but the hidden gem is the incredibly quaint patio upstairs at the back. We sat just inside and enjoyed the open doors and comfortable breeze. Not at all 'French pretentious'. The staff was very friendly and the food was EXCELLENT. There are lots of places I've been that are good, or even really good. This is one that I want to just keep recommending to people & comparing to everything else. Really can't wait to return.

A maginifent find for a perfect friend's dinner - or as I did - Sunday lunch. Totally unpretentious, almost real French, elegant, fantastic food and incredibly good pricing for NY central. Definitely a place I go back to, we had the mussles in three forms - the Thai ones were best. Delicious salads, tuna tartare etc. Nice and well priced lunch menu with a good choice of options.

Better than average French food for for the USA, average for Manhattan. The prices run from $19 for the Mussels to into the 30s for steak. The waitstaff are not helpful and they are positively grumpy. Like the mythical Paris restaurant perhaps???? Seems very popular with people in its neighborhood (Sutton Place).

I had chicken liver pate and frogs legs and they were both great. The beef tartare I tasted was also very good. The Pomerol wine we ordered turned out to be so-so. All and all this is a very good neighborhood bistro I wouldn't mind going to every now and then. It's not cheap, mind you - $90 per person. I'll select the wine more carefully next time though.

Set in a lovely brownstone off to the side of the Queensboro Bridge, this charming French restaurant is an oasis in the area.. We dined on their outdoor terrace on a lovely Memorial day evening, and enjoyed a delicious meal from start to finish. Service was attentive, the meal amazing (especially the tuna tartar starter and the sinful profiterole dessert) and enjoyed every bite. Prices were fair for this kind of atmosphere and food. We will return!

We recently visited the Bistro on Saturday evening after not having been there for some time. It is still really good. We shared a Romaine, bleu cheese, and bacon bits salad. We can highly recommend each of their best world-class entrees; scallops and caouslet. The French apple crisp & vanilla ice cream is to die for. For tourists staying in Midtown, in the center of Manhattan, (i.e. Sixth Ave to Lexington Ave), venture over to First Avenue. Don’t let your consierge just send you to a nearby place where he is earning a commission. Using Uber or Via makes it easy to get back and forth to Bistro Vendome. We will be back

This is a great French restaurant in a quiet neighborhood on the east side. Great service and staff The food excellent Dover sole WOW FRENCH ONION SOUP tremendous Tuna tarter really fresh Don’t miss it

Appreciated by locals and others this venue has multi levels and a garden plus a significant bar area. The menu is not vast but contains many expected French dishes. We dined as a fairly large group and everyone ordered something different for an entrée. The appetizers and the entrées were all high quality, well prepared and tasty. The service was attentive and not hovering.

We tested this restaurant because it was near home and we loved it! We made the reservation for Wednesday, but it was not crowded. We had the lamb with potatoes and also the Prime sirloin steak followed by a good wine. We ended the dinner with a marvelous profiteroles. We just loved the experience!

If you want the feel of an authentic Parisian bistro and dead on Provencial food, then you have to get to this place. This is absolutely the real deal and I will eat here every time I come back to NYC. The mussels and scallops, done a variety of different ways are amazing. On a recent visit, I had roasted quail stuffed with mushrooms and zucchini and it was amazing. The entire staff, and chef, are French and they are as friendly as can be. On a nice day in Spring or Summer, eat outside in the garden. Yes, a garden patio in the middle of NYC! This place flat out rocks!

If you find a better bistro in NYC, buy it!!!! Moules frites provencal and a chilled glass of Muscadet will cure most ills!!!

The meal started off poorly and ended poorly. The sweet butter had little flavor to it. To me, without a flavorful butter there is no point in eating the bread. The Fish Soup accompanied with cheese and rouille on the side was not up to par compared with other French N.Y. restaurants. The Crispy Duck Confit, compared poorly against the standard (not crispy) Duck Confit served elsewhere, this one was dry, while the standard one is very moist. To put it simply, eat elsewhere.

I have been going to this restaurant for quite some time, and I have to say that somewhat their cuisine, which was always good, seems to be getting better with time. Most of their menu is always the same, but they include seasonal dishes, such as soft shell crabs which I just had on my last visit and they were outstanding, crisp and tender served over green beans, but not just any green beans. Somehow they manage to make them memorable, so fresh and full of flavor. Of the year-round dishes I love their confit the canard, but I haven't found yet a plate I did not like. Chapeau!

In response to one of the prior reviews. We are not regulars and we were treated very well. The food was great (try the chicken liver pate) and the townhouse setting is very nice.

We had dinner at Bistro Vendome recently; my companion's French organization now goes there for their monthly lunch, all people primarily from Paris and now stationed in New York City. Our meal was delicious, served with French friendliness and flair, with very good wine and a comfortable French decor. We were impressed, and my companion was pleased with the new meeting place.

Was taken here by friends who live in the area. It's a comfortable, well appointed dining room with pleasant servers and a limited, but excellent menu. I like restaurants that "stick to their knitting" and offer a small selection of excellent dishes, rather than one that tries to be all things to all people. The menu has a nice mix of traditional French bistro fare: onion soup, mussels prepared in various ways, frog legs, salads, etc. The bar tender knows what she's doing. Had an excellent vodka martini. The list of wines by the glass is good as well. I enjoyed the mussels and my date had the frog legs. The profitroles and creme brulee were tasty and just the right size so you did not feel stuffed. As the place became more crowded, the noise level was a bit high but not to the point of being problematic. A nice evening there.

A couple of years ago we went for brunch and were very impressed and decided to give it another try, this time for dinner on a weekday night. Our wine was served promptly and delicious onion soup. Then we waited nearly 40 minutes for a lobster salad and mussels to arrive. The waiters were whispering and continually apologizing but at last, the food arrived and it was delicious. We guessed it was, "just one of those things."

A delightful Parisian bistro on the upper east side, with reasonable prices? Yes! Very pleasant experience. The lamb, duck, mussels, salads and deserts were all outstanding. We had a very pleasant and knowledgeable server, actually steered us to a less expensive wine selection. Casual bistro with delicious, well prepared dishes. A return visit is most certainly in order.

We've been here for dinner with friends and it's a lovely setting with good French food. Some of the portions are a bit small and the basics are quite good. The staff is very French and it's a very good neighborhood choice. We did try it for lunch and it was a bit empty during the week but nice and quiet!

Rather small space with an outside dining area. Seems to be a "hot spot" on The East side of Manhattan. Food was pretty good, however, prices were higher than the food warranted.

In a townhouse on an Upper East Side side street, a real gem ... unhurried, elegant, and everything very tasty. Several levels for seating, a perch on the upper level was very nice, but not necessary to enjoy the enening.

We were pleasantly surprised by the variety of the menu in this classic French restaurant in the heart of Manhattan. The food was well prepared, thoughtful and delicious! We were there for brunch, but I hear that the other menus are quite good as well.

Attentive and friendly staff, atmosphere is quiet and laidback. Food is quite good. It is more of a neighborhood local spot.

This is a place to go when you want to dine, quietly, with or without friends. The service is attentive, for the most part, though not intrusive. The kitchen turns out solid dishes, well executed.

Somewhat underwhelming when viewed from the street, this French bistro was a huge shocker when we came here for lunch. It will be a staple for us as we move to the neighborhood The bar is small and somewhat ordinary, but what it lacks in glitz and glamour it makes up for in coziness. It's decorated in what I'd call NY-French where it doesn't have the stereotypical french bistro decor that you often see overdone in every little restaurant. The food and wine were outstanding. It was brunch and a two course (plus glass of wine) was reasonably priced and excellent. The wine, which you might expect to be swill because it was included, was very good. In fact, I'd say better than what you get from premium lists and many establishments in the city. For food, I had the croque madame and tuna tartar. The sandwich was moist and perfectly prepared, it wasn't dry or slathered in mustard which can often be the case. Just the right size, it didn't make me feel like a pig and it even came with some french fries. My tuna tartar was excellent. Presented with paper thin cucumber slices and topping of seaweed salad, it was both delicious and beautifully presented. The owner is French as well as at least some of the staff. And in true French fashion, the service is a bit slow. The owner was very nice and took the time to chat with us when we engaged her. There seems to be a good deal of space in the back of the restaurant and even some outdoor space, but we didn't venture back there. I'm not sure how noisy it would get when it was busy, but that could potentially be a concern as it's a narrow space. Anyway, I loved it and plan to go back.

Mussels Provencal are to die for if you like garlic! I have not had mussels prepared this well anywhere! They are grilled with a garlic sauce that is spectacular. Nice looking restaurant, an outdoor terrace for nice evenings is lovely. Good service, good food, a good NYC experience.

order carefully and you can have a fine meal in quiet surroundings. good for taking older relatives. the roast salmon over lentils is good. skip sea bass over ratatouille. skip artichoke salad.

Basically found this jewel of French bistro restaurant via a google search lookin for a restaurant close to The Bentley Hotel where a good friend was staying. House in a quaint townhouse in an intimate neighborhood which would never know was there. The food, oh the food was superb and delicious in every way. We were there for a business dinner and though the tables aren't that big, they're manageable. For a taste of French cuisine in a non-hurried atmosphere, this is an out of the way location you'll want to venture off to. Food, Service and reasonably priced. Dinging one star as we had RSVP online and requested a terrace table but were seated inside. And though they insisted the terrace was full, the table which was in our direct line of sight was empty all night until we were almost ready to leave. Perhaps being saved for their regulars, but c'mon don't b.s. paying customers. Other than that, will definitely be back!

There are a few outstanding restaurants in the Sutton Place area in NYC, and Bistro Vendome is one of them. If you are a little tired of Italian food, and yearn for something French, you will enjoy this authentic Bistro food. Great mussels (maybe the best around), wonderful fish soup, and many classics, like beef bourguignon. Also fish and steak, if you like something simpler. Highly recommend.

A post work dinner with colleagues at this popular location turned into a dreadful and expensive mistake. I ate the Thai mussels which were OK, even if the sauce was gloopy and harshly flavoured. The stripped bass was disgusting and I would have sent it back, but my colleague had already sent back his steak only for it to be returned back to the table as 'perfect' and my friend being told he was wrong to question it's cooking. I have never seen such an arrogant display. The check arrived fully loaded. I have been eating out in NYC for 20 years and this is the low point. Avoid at all costs.

We always love this place, especially the steak tartar. Our waiter was especially excellent this time. A sophisticated neighborhood crowd. We had an excellent Bordeaux recommended for a reasonable price.

Should you be in the neighborhood, for an excellent standard NYC Bistrot (where have all the T's gone ?) , drop in to the Vendome. They have an excellent wine list. I am always looking for a simple roast chicken with mashed potatoes and a vegetable. The Vendome will not disappoint.

This is a very good regulars local type of restaurant . Eaten here a few time always consistent. Great service and very good French food they also do a nice brunch . Type of place where you can have a quiet conversation as well . In the area give it a try

It at first seemed like a cute neighborhood townhouse restaurant ...but the food was quite poor. I ordered escargot which was rubbery and drenched in oil...not worth dipping the bread. My dinner companion ordered filet mignon medium rare. It was well done. She called the waiter who took it away and brought it right back to say it was the lighting. She rightfully disagreed and a third person came back and again insisted it was the lighting. We were not getting satisfaction and they gave her a complimentary glass of wine but refused to acknowledge their mistake. Even the wine was not poured at the table and of questionable vintage.

If you are looking for consistently good French Bistro food, take yourself over to Bistro Vendome. Virginie and her husband run a first-class establishment. The menu is not extensive, but every item is excellent, especially their Steak Tartare and Mussels Normandie. And try their filet sole which is outstanding. If you are met by Stehane, the Maitre d', you will begin your experience with a smile. He is gracious, welcoming and makes you feel like you've just come home. We live in New York and eat out often and this is one of our favorite places. If the weather cooperates, eat outside on the lovely little terrace. Excellent all around! Incidentally, they have a lovely Sunday Brunch.

We had a double birthday celebration last night. It was my aunt's 90th birthday. She ordered the roast Cornish hen. The pieces were very small. So small in fact that it was appetizer size. They said that was their normal portion. Tiny.

Enjoyed our lunch. Casual, cozy and friendly. Service was good. Would recommend to visit if you're in the neighborhood. As revoir.

Bistor Vendome has the best onion soup I've ever had. The onion and beef broth is thick and rich and the layer of cheese on the top, crusty and brown, is perfect. Try the mussels in their many different sauces, particularly the ones in curry sauce. This place is great for brunch with its bright windows. For anyone who likes to eat at the bar, it's got a nice long one to accommodate many guests.

We enjoyed this moderately priced friendly bistro just off 1st Ave. at 58th Street. Food was fresh and nicely prepared. Wait staff was pleasant.

This is the real thing. Casual, boisterous, big portions, and, most of all, delicious. Pike quenelles, steak tartar, snails in garlic butter, the best lamb chops. What a great meal. In nice weather, sit on the little terrace; so charming.

I found the food to be very good here; French Bistro fare & some menu items not French were very good too. Prices were not bad at all. But the service was as slow and chaotic as I’ve seen in a nyc restaurant in a long time. Perhaps some staff were new or they were short-handed. From a food standpoint, definitely give this place a chance if you like French food.

This was the perfect place for me to get together with 2 old friends who dine at Bistro Vendome frequently. Because it was unusually cool for June, we chose to eat indoors and were seated at a quiet table where we could converse. We all appreciated the fact that the restaurant was not noisy, even though it was a busy night. Unlike many restaurants, the tables are far enough apart so that we weren't bothered by other patrons' conversations. The atmosphere is authentically French, and service is excellent. I chose the grilled shrimp, which was served with an unusual and delicious spinach flan. My friends each chose scallops, which they also raved about. I chose not to have an appetizer, and regretted my decision, since one of them had an absolutely gorgeous French onion soup and the other had a cold cucumber soup -- both of which they said were perfectly prepared. We shared a plate of profiteroles for dessert -- the serving of 3 profiteroles was just the right size for us. I don't get to NYC very often, but I will certainly head back to Bistro Vendome the next time I am there.

This is one of our favorite French restaurants in NY! It's a neighborhood restaurant in an old townhouse at the Sutton Place area. The setting is beautiful and they have an outdoor terrace. We had the best French Onion soup ever! The steak was also phenomenal- Fillet Mignon that was melting in your mouth! We finished our meal with a typical French "Floating Island" desert...- simply perfect! The only downside was the speed in which the meal was served and this is the NY influence. It took probably 1 hour since we got in and finished the meal- 3 courses...! Frankly, I prefer the 3 hours in Paris...- but apart from that- definitely a great restaurant!

We have been to Bistro Vendome countless times. The space is lovely, the wait staff excellent and the food delicious. My husband and i love mussels and they know how to prepare them here. Highly recommend this lovely bistro?

This restaurant is probably not going to be at the top of the chart in New York, but it is always a pleasure to visit. The staff is welcoming, the food is very good, and the layout provides for a nice evening!

Whether you're a couple sharing a romantic evening, business associates wanting a quiet place with good food to talk or, as was the case with us, two friends wanting to share a special meal to celebrate a birthday, this is the place to go. There are so few places in New York as elegant without being too expensive, where the service is excellent and the food delicious. Bistro Vendome is a charming three story townhouse. We chose to sit at the top level, so that we could sit under the skylight and look out onto the terrace, as it was still too chilly to eat outside. It was lovely. As an entree we shared a salad with excellent dressing and a large disc of goat cheese, which (I think) had been deep-fried. It was the most delicious appetizer I've ever enjoyed. My friend ordered roasted pork tenderloin, which she said was delicious. I must admit I was a little disappointed in the bouillabaisse I ordered. It was a meager portion, served in a shallow bowl. I counted two small pieces of fish, two mussels and two shrimp, with some floating croutons. But it tasted good. The best part of the meal were the profiteroles which, in case you've never had them (and this was my first time), looked like little rockets about to take off. They were served three to the plate, about two inches high, consisting of vanilla ice-cream, covered in hard chocolate and flaked with almonds. It's worth it to go back there just for the appetizer and desert!! The service was most attentive without being annoying, the place has an elegance about it, without being over-the-top, and I highly recommend Bistro Vendome, especially for a special event.

Always good to know there are good restaurants around this area. We enjoyed our Saturday lunch celebrating 2 birthdays. I recommend the scallops served with mushroom risotto. A little pricey for the amount of scallops served, but the risotto was so delicious. If they served it with salad, I can understand the price they have on it. The scallops were sliced thin to decorate on top of the molded Risotto. Basically you are paying for the risotto. So I think a little side of salad to accompany the dish is not asking too much. If you like the garlicky butter sauce in escargot, go order this. If you don't eat snails but still like the garlicky butter and herbs in escargot, then order the baked mussels. It has the same sauce. You can ask for more bread to clean out that yummy sauce off the platter. The tart Tatin is not the traditional version. It is more an apple tart. Apple tartin is usually like an upside down cake except it uses puff pastry crust. Their version is a dough with apples on top and baked. As for the floating island dessert, maybe you should ask for more sauce. Ours did not have enough. Make sure you ask for MP in the menu - they usually are above $50.

My wife and I made a reservation because of its proximity to a garage. Jackpot! The food is classic French, the prices fair, the clientele locals who know a good thing when they see it. My wife had escargot, cod with potatoes and ice cream, while I had fish soup, scallops and Apple cobbler. All were perfectly prepared and served. If you are a tourist, It's off the beaten path, but worth the detour.

Nestled off first avenue and 58th street is an intimate, cozy, authentic, French Bistro. The very warm, very French and very affable host sets the tone for a lovely experience. The appetizers (onion soup, Fish soup, beet carpaccio with goat cheese and, my favorite, the frisée salad with bacon and a perfectly prepared egg) are all so very good. The filet mignon, fettuccini with truffles, scallops with risotto, and, my favorite, the beef bourguignon, are all so well executed. The staff is lovely, from the wonderful host, to the friendly servers, to the extraordinarily attentive bus staff. We have returned to Bistro Vendome several times since discovering it a few months ago. Each time we visit we thoroughly enjoy the cozy and inviting atmosphere, the authentic, tasty, French fare and the warm, accommodating staff. With truly good, authentic, French food, a warm and inviting host and staff, and a very cozy atmosphere, Bistro Vendome has quickly become our favorite neighborhood “go to” spot.

Lovely French Bistro with the chef from Jubilee so the menu is very similar. Restaurant is very light and airy with an outdoor space for warmer months. A wonderful assortment of mussels is offered and the croque monsieur and French onion soup can't be beat!

The food was good, not overwhelmingly impressed. Very old, needs updating decor. Good service. Not sure I would go back.

We came for my husband's birthday; several other tables were also there for anniversary and birthday celebrations. Bistro Vendome has that sort of atmosphere, an elegant townhouse on a discreet side street near Sutton Place. Even this children at the next table had perfect manners; this is definitely a spot for adults. The wine list is extensive, if pricey. The dishes were, for the most part, classic country French, beautifully prepared. We shared country pate, frisee au lardons, and oysters as starters. For the main courses, my husband's steak was cooked to perfection, with a bernaise sauce for the perfect French touch. My friend's special-dish duck breast was also wonderful. My duck confit was sadly overdone, but the staff were more than accommodating. We shared what we had already ordered, and they kindly removed the confit from our bill. Perfectly cooked spinach! Such a rare and wonderful treat! And a lovely chocolate fondant cake, as the owners sang "Bonne Anniversaire." Pricey but absolutely worth it for any special occasion, or date night, or just when you want a bit of a splurge. I can't wait to go back.

A truly memorable meal! Setting is understated and very comfortable, and quiet enough to allow for conversation. Service was knowledgeable and attentive without hovering. Food was excellent! The onion soup was some of the best I've ever had (a sentiment echoed at several tables nearby!), and the fish soup drew rave reviews. The duck was outstanding--tender and perfectly seasoned, paired nicely with potatoes and asparagus in a delectable sauce. The steak frites was termed heavenly, and the scallops drew high praise. Would recommend highly.

Bistro Vendome is the perfect restaurant if you are looking for delicious, authentic French food. This local favorite (and now I know why) is a family run place - wife runs the front of house and husband is chef. The food and wine menu offer lots of good choices. Our party started with tuna tartare, chicken liver pate, and artichoke salad - all delicious. we then had scallops, steak, and duck confit. All perfectly done. Portions are big, so we could not finish everything, so I have duck confit to make a great hash at home this AM - splendid. chocolate molten cake was out of this world as was the apple sorbet with Calvados. the restaurant is on three levels and has very comfortable banquettes. Our server was very nice and helpful. Overall, a good pick.

We ate here with four and really enjoyed our evening. Good attentive personal seeing after you and good french cooking. Make a reservation to be sure you get a table.

I have been at Bistro Vendome a dozen times. The ambiance is welcoming and charming. The noise level is low. The service is charming and the food is delicious ! What more could you want from a small neighborhood refuge ?

Should you miss French food or be addict to traditional French dishes, this is the place to go. It is one of the few "small" authentic owned and managed by the family Chef Pascal Petiteau and his wife. Try the traditional mussels with the "beurre persillé", DELICIOUS. Everything was excellent (all made with fresh ingredients), including the white wine Muscadet from Chef's village. For our daughter who is vegetarian, there were several possibilities, so no worry on that aspect neither.

More than a bistro, a good French restaurant in New York, in a friendly and friendly place you can enjoy onion soup, sea mussels and profiteroles.

This is a pretty restaurant with a pleasant wait staff. The title refers to the food. Not spoiled and not awful to look out; just horrible. French onion soup has a huge gob of what is probably commercial mozzarella cheese with no taste to the broth and a few puny onions. Cassoulet literally has no taste. Who is in the kitchen.? To call this a French bistro, even in the American sense of the word, is a travesty. Also, the absolutely worst "floating island" in the world. I feel sorry for the wait staff but this is terrible food.

We just happened to find this restaurant, and it was a very pleasant experience. The Snails ($16/half dozen) were the best I have had in a long time and sizzlingly hot. Both the Branzino ($33) and Ballotine Chicken ($32) were excellent. The floating desert($10) was good. Service was quite good and friendly! We will definitely return.

This neighborhood place has been there for years and was pretty packed even on a rainy tuesday night. That should have been a good sign but it was not. We were at a downstairs table which are so close together when another diner went to sit down he spilled gravy all over me. The bread was STALE - I can't believe a French restaurant would serve stale bread. We asked for fresh bread and they did bring it but it is so uninspiring - cold and obviously store bought (days ago probably). My husband's escargot were good and I enjoyed the special crab salad they had so things started looking up. I ordered the duck confit (which came with the gravy) and asked for crispy fries instead of the potatoes. The duck was dry as heck (needed that gravy) and the fries were so awful. I have never seen fries at a French restaurant that bad. They were soggy. So they took those away - and using the same ones - drowned them in some oil. Came back a bit crispier but with an odd stale taste. My husband got the (expensive) lamb and it was very good. But a French bistro that can't do bread or fries? Very disappointing - won't return!

In New York a quiet restaurant without screeching sex in the city look alikes or out of town businessmen on a screaming match is a miraculous oasis to be treasured. We were three and could speak and hear across the table at all times, simply extraordinary on a NY Brunch. I had been here for dinner but never for brunch. The service was excellent, the owner herself was taking the orders and she recommended the prix fixe which was better than we could have imagined: Exquisite chicken paté and butter nut squash soup, a fabulous salmon benedictine, impecable quiche Lorraine and a hamburger that was medium rare and perfectly so. For dessert the "Ice flotante" turned out to be a a merengue concoction on creme anglaise and some strategic caramel flavoring streaks the whole of which made me crave to eat a bucket full

We have gone to Vendome at least a half dozen times. It is in our neighborhood, and it had become our "go to" restaurant. The food is very good. Fabrice is charming and efficient. About two months ago, we went for dinner. We were busy talking, but after about an hour we realized, some guests who came after us were finishing their meals. We questioned our waitress. She looked very flustered and numerous apologies followed....she had forgotten to put in our order. Okay....so the food finally came out, and they comped us our drinks.....really??? Two hours and we get free drinks. Fabrice came over and apologized......yada yada yada. He asked that we give them another try. Two months later (early November 2019), we did just that. We requested Fabrice. He took our order. Food was delicious. All was well. Our guests decided to order dessert. The same female wait person from before took our order. We were once again engaged in conversation. After 1/2 an hour, I asked the server where the dessert was.......Unbelievable!!!!.....I kid you not. She forgot. She comped us the dessert, but....the only thing I can guess is that she must be wonderful after hours. We have vowed never to return......and I really like the place, but when I go out to eat, it is not my job to manage the server.

This is an OK place for dinner but none of the dishes were noteworthy, especially creative, or outstanding. The prices seemed to us to be a little high for what it is (though it isn't in an inexpensive neighborhood).

Had the cassoulet with a side order of superb fries. Much lighter than the Paris equivalent which suits me but with nonetheless generous perfectly cooked duck thigh and breast. Service had a nice light touch.

What a great restaurant ! very good dinner, love the provencal mussels. They have a lovely deck in the summer, cute spot. Stephane was a great host, very friendly. I will go back.

This bistro has a charming ambience. It is located in a townhouse on the upper East side. The food was excellent and the service impeccable. It feels very special without being pretentious. I felt the prices were reasonable given the quality of the food and service. I will definitely return the next time I'm in New York.

This fairly new addition to the Sutton Place area, has a bright simple decor, and reliable simple menu. This mutilevel restaurant, located in a brownstone on East 58 St. b/n First Avenue and Sutton Place, has a welcoming well thought out and balance short menu. The service is attentive and efficient, the food is well prepared and tasty, the prices are reasonble for a fairly simple place in midtown. The best part is that they are opened every day of the week, and also deliver locally. A perfect place for a family meal, or a business lunch.

Hidden on the North Side of 58th and East of 1st Avenue, this place is lovely. The ambiance is French, the food is French and they speak French. Cozy, warm wood, glass & tiles décor, bright light coming from a skylight and even outdoor sitting, if this is your heart's desire. Bread is excellent and service mostly good. I loved the French Onion Soup: thick and creamy, the way it only gets if properly slow cooked. Rose by the glass was delicious ($15).

I was meeting second cousins found through DNA for the first time, and we met at the Bistro Vendôme. It was a perfect setting. The food was truly gourmet, and the wait staff was wonderful and bilingual. There were four of us, and everything could not have been more perfect. We had the two-course prix fixe luncheon followed by an excellent espresso. No fuss was made about two people sharing a salad and the mussels selected. I had the potato leek soup and salmon with perfectly grilled vegetables. Although we sat indoors, there is a lovely quiet outdoor terrace in the back, of which I attach a photo. I can hardly wait to go back again and again. It is on 58th Street near the corner of Second Avenue. There are some stairs with good railings. There is a welcoming bell to call for them to put down a ramp for a wheelchair in case it is needed. It is interesting to see the nice bar where one person alone was enjoying a gourmet luncheon. It was a happy time to find we had an expanded family and to enjoy a fine meal and conversation in a leisurely fashion. Bon appétit.

This is a charming restaurant w/the BEST steak and fries. This is all I ever order because I love both so much. In the nice weather lovely seating on the back terrace.

I've dined here twice in the past few months. It's in a neighborhood I know well, but for some reason I've overlooked this particular place. I guess it's location - just off 1st Ave - might explain my oversight. There's not really a lot of walk-by traffic. It seems a place you really have to 'know' about. I get the sense that many of the customers are regulars who live right in the Sutton Place neighborhood. It is not a 'see and be seen' place. It's perhaps a little frumpy and tired, echoing the neighborhood inhabitants, but I find that sort of refreshing and authentic. I liked it very much. I also like that it is rather quiet and not fussy. I had dinner with my adult son and we could really talk and enjoy the food. The service is good - very french. The menu is delicious bistro food. Lots of classics like coq au vin. The wine is good and they had a nice assortment of offerings by the glass. I think I will make this my new local neighborhood bistro.

Visiting from west coast. Joined family for dinner. 6 of us. Beautiful setting. Excellent food and service. Since this was a reuinion, we stayed late. No problem. Highly recommend.

Good value ( for NYC) and excellent quality. For $25 - appetizer, entree and mimosa or bloody mary. Started with velvety pate, followed by above average omeletee and crisp frites. My daughter's mussels provencale were outstanding.

We had several absolutely outstanding meals here, but there was literally nothing vegetarian on the menu, at least during our visits. It was kind of awkward the first time, and I wished I had thought about this first. So if you need vegetarian, this is the wrong place. Go somewhere else. It is the right place for very competent French cuisine in a lovely setting in a cute Midtown East neighborhood. If French is your thing, you will not be disappointed.

Cozy atmosphere and attentive service. Nice bistro style menu with something for everyone. Accommodating to our party which changed sizes twice . If you like muscle you have a nice choice of seasonings. Great on a cold night

visited this local bistro twice. The happy hour with oysters at USD 1 each is a great bargain. The cosmos are great. Today we had the artichoke salad, which was perfect.

We visit Vendome whenever we spend time in the Sutton Place neighborhood. The ambiance is always pleasant, the staff very helpful and the food of good quality. This is s great casual spot to spend an enjoyable evening!

Wonderful mussels with a variety of sauces. Great crusty bread. Light pretty pleasant space, professional service. One of those slightly off the beaten path places always good to find, within walking distance of Bloomingdales.

I was delighted when I noticed that our neighborhood French bistro's health grade rating went up to "A." (Ever since I learned of the significance of these grades I do not want to dine in places with less than an A rating.) French restaurants without the attitude are a pleasant surprise. Bistro Vendome has a wonderful, relaxing vibe and because seating is spread over three levels, each area is quiet enough for a civilized conversation. There is even a lovely patio on the top level, enchanting in good weather. Now the main attraction: the food. Two of us ordered soups for starters: a flavorful fish soup (hot) and a carrot/ ginger soup (cold) both were tasty. My scallops were perfectly prepared--neither underdone, nor overdone, as often happens. They were served over orzo with a flavorful, yet not overpowering, mushroom sauce. My husband's hangar steak was cooked to perfection--he is very fussy; though he wished it hadn't beed sliced. He prefers to cut it himself. Our dinner guests shared a fabulous order of Thai style mussels and roast veal, also tender and not overcooked. Wine was reasonably priced for this type of a restaurant. Service was somewhat careless, but on a night when every single table was occupied, it was tolerable. They could use more servers on busy nights. Don't miss it!

Warm and lively atmosphere, lovely food and great cocktails. .. had one of the best Christmas lunches I've had in years 3 delicious courses at a very reasonable price, worth a trip out to Upper East Side

This restaurant has been around for years and it's consistently reliable for French food. The service is good, the seating generally comfortable and the pricing is in line with the quality of what is offered and falls into a mid-priced level. If you are in the mood for French style food, this is an excellent choice for a pleasant dinner with friend or family.

It was a delightful lunch. Great atmosphere. Leasurely pace-no rush. French soup was divine. Mussels were tasty. Strongly recommend!!!!

The food is amazing - fresh vegetables, perfectly cooked fish and great burgers. Has outside dining area. Definitely going back again. Only issue is service can be inconsistent (little slow) for weekend brunch.

Ordered the Mussels Armoricaine and they were fantastic. Great fries too! The service and ambiance were very nice. Everyone in my party enjoyed their food, and we all agreed to come back again. Neighborhood Gem!

My friends and I were treated awfully. We initially had a reservation for 2. Then I called and spoke to the owner, Virginie and asked if it was ok to add another person to my reservation (all outdoor dining). She said yes. We get there and they try to squeeze us into a very small space which i told them it didn't work for us as we were very uncomfortable. We wait and sit at another table for 3. Order a bottle of wine. As we're waiting, Virginie comes at us saying we can't sit there. That our table is assigned and we can't sit there. She was very rude, loud and in your face. I don't care how good the food is.... it's not worth having an unwelcoming owner only in it for the money by squeezing people in Be warned my friends... be warned!

Bistro Vendome shines in every way. The restaurant is exceedingly well-managed, the space is pleasantly decorated with a lovely outdoor patio. The food is delicious and reasonably-priced. The staff is professional, friendly and attentive. Highly recommended! James C., Los Angeles

stereotypically (in a positive sense) 'french' and authentic. warm atmosphere with a real mix of patrons, young & old. mussels and the fish soup are supposed to be fantastic. i had duck which was fine but not great. good wine list. would recommend and will return for sure!

We dined here on our last evening in NY. Recommended by our concierge in Fitzpatrick Manhattan. We were warmly welcomed, never rushed and had an excellent waiter from Jordan. The food was superb. The chicken liver pate was excellent as a starter for Hilary who followed with beautifully prepared and presented Scallop dish with orzo and a porcini sauce. I started with a very well flavoured seared tuna. I then had a special , a beautifully prepared duck cassoulet. With no room to spare we then shared some chocolate profiteroles. There was a good range of wine which we enjoyed. Don’t miss out on the atmosphere and food at this excellent bistro.

This restaurant is far from trendy. It is a relaxed, traditional French bistro with good service and excellent fare. The mussels, for instance, are served in a variety of preparations, all delicious. The tuna tartare is prepared with just the right amount of acidity cut by the richness of avocado. The steak frites is excellent, as are the desserts. Go there for the classic dishes and others like poireaux vinaigrette. Seats outside in the patio are great weather permitting. We prefer sitting upstairs than downstairs and eating at the bar is always a good option...

always , but always ...whenever i have been there for dinner , the food is always but "always" so refined ( ingredients , one can tell !!... i mean this IS quality food !!! :) , and the staff "ALL" are so nice "genuinely" Nice so that combination... need i say more ? :)
Just gets it right
This moderately sized restaurant's chef knows how to cook and the staff knows how to treat one right. It is a local jem
