I’m not exaggerating with the title. I consider myself rather well versed with fine dining. This experience ranked on top. Some of the tiniest bites I put in my mouth during this visit were explosive in flavor. Because of their request for no photos, I didn’t take any but be assured this meal was outstanding. We partook in the extended farmers feast. The only part of our meal that wasn’t super exciting was an apple dessert. It was tasty, just not earth shattering like the rest of the meal. Dining at blue hill makes me question almost every thing I put in my mouth now. I also cannot think of this meal without smiling. Well done, blue hill! Thank you for a fabulous time!

Blue Hill is a cosy restaurant, nestled next to Washington Square. Nice atmosphere and great food, with exquisite fresh natural products coming mostly from the chef’s farm.

I love this place. Starting with the services. Great professionals. Tables a little bit close to each other. Hard to have a bit of privacy. Special food. Very tasty and new.

My wife and I dined here on a week night with a 5pm reservation (!) booked 6 weeks earlier. The expectation was high as we had also like many seen the Chefs table program. Two menus are available - one of us went Farmers feast and the other the daily menu. The sommelier selected wines for us based on our food which matched the food perfectly. She selected wines from Croatia (incredible pinot gris), France, Italy and the USA. The food service was also incredible with food narratives relating to the dishes and their procurement. Despite the busy nature of the restaurant we never felt rushed. We watched the Chefs Table (Netflix) again the following night and reminisced. An absolute must do! It will remain a very special memory anda restaurant that we would definitely revisit next time in NYC.

Came after a show in the village because could only get a late night booking. We called in advance to say show ended early, and they made room for us an hour early. We tried 6-course tasting menu and 4-course prix fixe. Most courses were tasty and imaginative. Rissoto in squid ink was the only nonstarter. Bread in herb butter was super. There was a gap in the service so the waiter brought us complimentary glasses of wine. Apple slices at the end a nice touch.

We just had “brunch” at family meal at Blue Hill and it was awesome. First, they called last week to discuss food allergies. Second, from the moment we arrived service was friendly and impeccable. Third, the food was delicious, beautifully presented and we loved the family style process. Finally, they even provided a little extra desert with a candle for my son’s birthday. Absolutely fabulous, can’t wait to come back!

We saw Dan Barber's Blue Hill on Chef's Table. We went to the NYC location, and maybe that is the difference, as it was really good - but also clearly not #1. We have been to both Massimo's Osteria Francescana and NYC's Eleven Madison Park, both #1's, and this may be #12 but they have a long way to go. The food was awesome and the wine pairings too, and our server did end up being really good in the end also, but the overall service and vibe was not what we expected at this level. The menu did not seem to be changed daily, or even seasonally, since it was the same thing online for months. That is not what Dan Barber is supposed to be about, nor what we've seen at other top restaurants. Again maybe it was because it was the NYC location, but that doesn't feel right if that was the case. We arrived very early since we didn't know how long it would take in NY traffic. Totally understand not being able to be seated right away, but we were essentially told to go away and come back on time! Even when we came back we had to wait about 10 more minutes - and the tables were clearly waiting and available. And we had a reservation and they clearly don't turn the tables for multiple seatings so this really didn't make much sense. Yes we early the first time, but that didn't change when we came back on time! Our server started out not making us feel great also, although at the end we did like her. What was wrong? First she was too quiet to understand, and at that point their Garden Room was not crowded yet nor loud. After having to make her speak up several times she was able to change and from that point on we never had a problem with that. Note that we hear just fine - it was not us. There also wasn't really any help with dinner selections. They offer an extended 8 course option, but it was barely visible in small print, and never mentioned. Similarly for the wine pairing option. The food and wines were all amazing, but the difference at this level is the service - and it was severely lacking. You aren't allowed to take pictures. I do get that, but there are also ways to offset that - and every other top restuarant we have been to has both allowed pictures and done the extras that would have offset it even if they had not. What do I mean? The others have always given us some version of the menu to take home with us, usually very nicely done at that. They gave us nothing. I guess it doesn't really matter since their menu doesn't change though. Every other top restaurant has done other personal things too. Some take you into their kitchen, some have the chef come out to talk to you, and some do something else. This one did nothing. They didn't even call us a cab when we asked at the end - they simply said to walk the half block to the main street and we could catch one. That is really not acceptable when you spend over $600 and our in your best clothes and its cold outside. So if you want great food and/or wine - this place has it. But it is not even close to being what they should be for being #12 and on Chef's Table. We not only been to 2 #1's, we have also been to a #6, #7, and #16 - they were also all really exceptional in many many ways, even though you could also see why they were not #1. The difference here was they really didn't deserve to be in the top 50 - we've been to many restaurants with better service!

We had the farmer's menu and suggested wines - it was surprising, fun, inspiring and very delicious. The service was outstanding - we met all the waiters :) - and the wine pairing awesome. Well worth the money from all aspects!

This meal was a little disappointing based upon the sheer inventiveness of its chef and what he is capable of doing. My wife and I tried each of the two tasting menus and the lead off dishes were extraordinary. They included a lobster dumpling soup, black bass with grapes, and diver’s scallops. The other dishes were good and not great. Also, I ordered a non alcoholic cider and was given enough in a wine glass to complete two or three sips between the cold air that came blasting out at us as we sat next to the door. This chef is capable of a consistently high quality and it is a disservice to his customers and his brand to do otherwise.

It would be ridiculous to try to outdo earlier positive opinions on this restaurant. You feel that everything is made with great love for the actual ingredient and to transform it into a delicacy. Unfortunately we sat out in the 'garden' where it was very dark. We had difficulties to read the meny because of that and had to use small flashlights that were handed to us to be able to order what we wanted to eat. You eat also with you eyes, so even if the different delicacies tasted heavenly, it would have been a still greater evening if we would have been able to enjoy the sight of what was served.

Decent, but but not remotely worth the $$$$. Sadly, we weren't impressed, which we kind of have to be. Maybe it was just the vegetarian menu.

My boyfriend and I dined at Blue Hill to celebrate our first anniversary. "Sensationally inventive" is perhaps an apt description of the dining experience that this restaurant offers. Aesthetically, the place radiates elegance and sophistication, combined with playfulness and modernism. The quality of service is the epitome of professionalism, with each server being genuinely hospitable, respectful, pleasant and thoroughly informed of every detail of the menu, as well as the restaurant as a whole. The "farm-to-plate" ethos shines through each dish and each new ingredient you put in your mouth feels like the best example of its kind you've ever tasted. Blue Hill, thank you for this magnificent experience :-)

Amazing how great healthy food can be Staff goes to amazing lengths to find vegetables that exceed taste and quality expectations Setting is quiet ...enables intimate conversation Exceptional service Food to die for Nice complimentary wine choices

Probably the most entertaining and educational dinner you will have. The staff are passionate, the food delicate and delightful. We didn't do the wine pairing (regrettably), however the sommelier was excellent. A must if you have time to go a little way out of the city.

Visited with a group of friends, had to book reservatión like 90 days before, we did it at Blue Hill at Stone Barns, gorgeous place about 50 miles drive from NYC. It was an unforgetable experience of excelent taste, I guess we had about 33 diferent courses, Cheffs menu, we had the most different tastes we have ever had in a restaurant. Every thing from the farm to your plate served each by a different cheff and a different story about the dish we were having, a once in a time delightfull experience, costly but worth it. The meal took us about 3.5 hours

Delicious options paired with amazing beverage and wine options. Very nice experience overall. Staff were efficient but not friendly.

Fantastic experience, truly memorable. Chose the extended Farmers Feast - and yet still left feeling light as air, not bloated and stuffed. Every course was carefully crafted, fresh, and as expected from what I knew of Blue Hill / Chef Barber. I did not love the service from our host who while knowledgeable seemed more annoyed than disappointed if we didn't finish every bite of a course, but with so many courses there is bound to be something you don't enjoy or can't quite finish. That being said the manager Cole was absolutely incredible from start to finish, he was attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly - Cole was engaging and really helped to take our experience to a special level. I took my friend for her birthday and everyone wished her a happy birthday over the course of the evening. Overall the menu and service are exactly what I expected from the caliber restaurant Blue Hill is, and I was pleased that I really couldn't find a course that could be disliked given the fact you don't know whats coming your way! I cannot wait to return with new guests in my company, so they too can experience the fresh food-first menu. Quite loud as it is a small, tight space (be prepared to overhear, be overheard, and maybe join the conversation of those near you, particularly if you're in a banquette... we made new friends with our table-adjacent). Service from staff was above par with relation to dropped napkins etc, moving unnoticed and never missing the minutia I really think it goes a long way in elevating the experience (something you'd be accustomed to at a large high end restaurant but could easily be overlooked on a place known for its menu and small space, I was happy to see they have a strong support staff making the experience 5-star all around). I would say we dined at an average pace, enjoying conversation, and did not linger after the meal and still spent 3.5-4 hours there, plan accordingly if you choose the extended menu which *I RECOMMEND*.

went to blue hill last night. had 2 regular menu orders, two extended menu orders and then had a couple of extra dishes. to be honest, the restaurant disappoints as it did last time we were there. the dishes were interesting but not inspiring.

Blue hill is a fantastic choice. Love the food there. The bread and butter is to die for. Their beginning course of vegetable was delicious. Dessert also great. Would definitely recommend this place

Our second big dinner for the week was at Blue Hill. We had a late booking which was perfect after a big brunch. Our meal was excellent in this one Michelin Starred venue. The pre-fixe involves four courses and each one was great. We had two guys who had drunk too much next to us, but besides that we had a memorable meal.

What a great experience! I went with my wife and we had the tasing menu and was superb. I had it with a wine pairing. My wife did not. We both enjoyed it. Great service. Creative menu. All comes for the chef’s own sustainable farms and orchard. A great overall food and wine experience worth going Alejandro Cardoso Mexico

Food was great. Service was subpar. Felt as though the wait staff was making fun of us due to our weight. This experience should not happen, especially when we pay almost 500 dollars for a meal. There isn’t anything left for me to say, except we should keep places like this to a higher standard.

great innovative set menus service as good as you will find anywhere in the world and whilst not cheap absolutely reasonable for this standard of dining experience

At the Blue Hill all the servers know exactly where all the ingredients have been sourced from. The two assigned to our table were like Holmes and Watson picking on tiny clues and work all the way back to tell you about the un-criminal act. So, with the trumpet mushroom ravioli for instance, their darker hue was pointed out as evidence of the fact that these were no ordinary egg and durum wheat pasta. Instead, it was the trumpet mushrooms themselves, desiccated and ground, that were the base from which these ravioli were made. The result is a pretty startling resonance of the taste of the core ingredient which is in the raviolo, its filling, its sauce and its condiment. The ambience at Blue Hill is serene. The lights are as muted as the sounds and the voices. It is carpeted. It is not hip but it is housed in one of the remaining speakeasies in the city. These were enclaves frequented by drinkers during the Prohibition in the twenties. And, you know what? In a time when it seems so rare and unavailable to eat the pure, the organic, the gmo-free, the pesticide-free and the anti-biotic free, it felt just right to go to a place once frequented by those that sought what was prohibited in their time. You do not just eat venison at Blue Hill. You eat the flesh of an animal that lived free and ate naturally. It was one of less than a dozen slaughtered annually. It was not treated in any way but brought from the place it fell to the kitchen that prepared it. For those, like me, that feel the global appetite for meat is destroying the environment and subjecting animals to cruelty on an industrial scale, this is an acceptable manner of occasionally consuming a food we enjoy. This restaurant has a sister establishment, a farm in Westchester which is around an hour out of town. Many of the vegetables served here came from the farm and it is good for city dwellers to be able to eat an egg or a carrot like their ancestors used to.

This is a very special place for foodies. Be sure to look at their menu before you go. It is probably not for everyone but my husband and I loved it. They serve very fresh and creatively prepared and presented food. We chose from the daily menu of four courses where you get a choice of two or three selections. It is easy to share so it is good to choose one of each selection in each course. Though the portions are small it is substantial enough to be filling. The first course had snap peas which were incredibly delicious. My husband had the asparagus that was also wonderful. At this point they served a whole grain bread that was not only warm but had a crispy crust. It was delicious with the soft butter mixed with scrumptious seeds. For the second course I chose pullet egg, very fresh and tasty and my husband had the butter fish. It was a firm fish and not at all fishy tasting. The third course had three choices: I had the "pig" which was very good and served rare. My husband had lamb which was also good and served medium rare. There third choice which we did not select was vegetable lasagna which I am sure would have been great. There was no choice for dessert. It was a strawberry concoction in a light cloud of something meringue-like. The dinner was a great experience with great service. Our server, Mary was friendly, efficient and very informed.

The quiet (no cell phones, soft lighting, soft palette and perfectly small) dining room was welcoming from the one that you stepped in. No pretentious servers, only people who love what they do and are a part of. Whipped lard with the sweetest carrot you’ve ever tasted, beautiful options and unique enough to keep you interested but nothing “weird” Great wine list too. It was a dream.

Date night with my husband. The food was generally very delicious but there were a few odd combinations that just didn't work. However, we appreciated the creative approach to the menu but if you are quite particular this is not the restaurant for you. My pickled onion juice cocktail just did not go down easily. I'm not sure why such a renowned restaurant would even offer it on the menu. Overall - I would still recommend this restaurant for a unique experience.

I was delighted to finally make it to Blue Hill, a restaurant that had been on my must try for several years. It exceeded my expectations on all levels. Hands down, my favorite fine dining experience in NYC. The hospitality, food, and ambiance are exceptional. They treat you like family and feed you gastronomic delights. It is well worth every dime you spend. I cannot wait to return.

Anyone who gives this place less then 5 stars is absolutely crazy!! I do not even know where to start with Blue Hill. My partner and I booked a trip to New York City for his birthday and our anniversary. We based our whole trip around a reservation at Eleven Madison Park. Due to the fact he is a chef, who owns his own business he had been dying to try Blue Hill as well. We booked here the night before Eleven Madison Park and it absolutely surpassed our expectations. I will start by saying the service was outstanding. The server asked details about our lives, our food likes and dislikes, jotting every detail down. They knew we were celebrating a birthday, and brought us some complimentary champagne. After the server left our table, the manager came by a few minutes later speaking about the details on our lives we shared with the server (i.e, where we live, what we do). This is exceptional service, beyond anything we have experienced before. When the server came back she said the chef offered to do his own menu for us, which would be a surprise and we were all over it. Every single item that came out was unbelievable. We savoured every bite and enjoyed each and every dish that came out. This is not a place where you should expect large portions, if that is what you are after then you have chosen the wrong place. However, by the end of the meal we were so full. We enjoyed 3 different wine pairings that went great with all of the food. At the end of the meal the manager let us know that the chef wanted to offer a tour into the kitchen. With my partner being the chef and the foodie he is, this was the ultimate gesture to finish off the evening. We respected the no phone policy, but we so wish we had photos of the creativity and exceptional presentation at Blue Hill. Needless to say, after our evening and exceptional experience we had at Blue Hill, Eleven Madison Park had A LOT to live up to. We can most definitely say this restaurant deserves to be in the Top 10 and was without a doubt far better then Eleven Madison Park. Dan Barber showed zero arrogance and was so genuine, even commenting on the details we shared with our server! We will certainly be back the next time we visit New York City. To anyone indecisive about booking here, spend the money and enjoy an amazing night!

Family Meal at Blue Hill in New York City was one of the most amazing restaurants I have ever visited. Everything was farm to table except a special flour from Spain used in the bread. Course after course came out and each one was delightful. Each one used seasonal vegetables and fruits. One course actually had fish prepared two different ways. The service was exceptional. There was a full bar, great wine list and specialty cocktails. There is no menu, you eat what is fresh for the day. My two year old granddaughter was with us, and they offered to warm some milk for her! There was so much food, but no take out bags were needed. We ate every bite. Truly, the chef is an artisan and I will eat here again when visiting New York City.

I am no farm-to-table aficionado, I just like great food. This place must be one of the best at combining the two in the world. On top of that, it is very reasonably priced including the wine list. Beer selection was impressive as well. I suggest splurging for the farmer's feast plus. I forgot how many courses I was served, but all were good and most were great. Highly recommended.

If you have seen Netflix Chef's table season 1 ep 2 you will know Blue Hill. If you want to go here, check the episode first :) The service is very good here, professional and you get a detailed explanation of every dish. The taste of all the home grown products is very delicious. We did the extended Farm set menu and the quality and quantity is very good. However I think the restaurant is a bit hyped, its def a great restaurant, but I dont think its much better then other high quality restaurants. Dont expect the best food ever, but go here for a great night out with good food :) Price is affordable :)

The ambience is comfortable and the food is excellent. Freshness is key and some of the vegetables are specially bred. The staff are very well trained and knowledgeable making the whole experience a great pleasure.

I made a reservation for Bill Hill NYC on a whim. I had previously heard about the restaurant and its flagship location upstate---all goods things---and decided to see if I could nab a table. It's my understanding that reservations open up a month in advance, so you have to be quick. There were a number of 5:00 p.m. reservations available, but that's a little to early for my taste. Luckily, we were able to grab a table for 2 at 7:00 p.m. It's a small, romantically lit location. You could easily walk right past if you weren't paying attention. As soon as we entered and checked our coats, we were seated. As the website and menu mention, there is no cell phone use allowed. I couldn't tell if this was a strictly enforced rule because, quite surprisingly, no one was on the phone! There are two types of menus: the tasting menu and the 4 course pre fixe. There is also an option to do an extended tasting menu which comes with some additional courses. The only time guests have to pick the same option is if someone decides to get the extended tasting menu---which is approximately 3 hours. The food itself was superb. It was easily one of the best meals I've had. The flavors popped but weren't overbearing. Everything from the bread and butter to the dessert was well curated. Both the duck and chicken dishes were perfectly cooked. Desert was light and airy. Wonderful meal overall. Simple dishes done well. Extensive wine list as well. Can't wait to visit Blue Hill at Stone Barns.

I had very high expections after reading chef Barber's book but they somehow managed to exceed them. The food was incredible - we had the extended farmer's feast - the add-on being the two dishes (supposedly)hand picked by Dan himself (sunflower Stem cream & chocolate coated liver pate). We also got invited to tour the kitchen which was a real treat! The wine pairing was untriaditional and very generous. The dinner conveyed the ideas of sustainable eating and growing food for flavour, as all all dishes very incredibly delicious. The staff was impeccable too - great team ,screamed professionalism. Thank you, Blue Hill for a great experience!

Blue Hill is almost too precious, almost. You encounter a plate of perfect, tiny turnips, or habanero peppers that have been defanged, both served raw and unencumbered by anything else and wonder "What's next? Raw beets and carrots?" But, defanged habaneros are really a wonder and food that reflects the kitchen's as well as the farm's skill soon appears and it all turns out just fine. The room is lovely and the staff both completely knowledgeable and very attentive, so the overall experience is a genuine pleasure. Still, I was left wondering if "less is more" is sometimes really "less is a bit less" when it comes to the treatment of the proteins as both the "pig" and and chicken were good, but really nothing that matched the setting and the buzz one hears about this place. It is surely worth a visit, and the not too moderate price, I'm just not sure it's worth two.

I'm a foodie -- I'll admit it -- and a Chef's Table devotee, so when a recent business trip was taking me to Greenwich Village, I hopped on the chance to book myself a table for one at Blue Hill. By using Open Table, I could only snag myself a 10:30 p.m. spot on a Thursday night, but I psyched myself up for it and was ready to do it. Thankfully, though, when I called to confirm my reservation a few days prior (as is recommended on the restaurant's website), the really nice woman working the phones moved me to a 10 p.m. spot and then indicated they might be able to do me better -- which they did, the day before, when I got moved to a 6:30 p.m. spot! Considering that the meal lasted a peaceful two hours, I am so glad I got to eat earlier. And I would recommend that anyone trying to book a table call directly rather than rely on Open Table. The meal itself was superb. I went for the Farmer's Menu, which listed six courses for a highly reasonable $98, but it came with four amuse-bouches, a (gluten-free, at my request) bread serving, and a post-dessert nibble of toasted nuts and a chocolate truffle. My faves were the liver pate cube coated with two thin slices of chocolate (one of the amuse-bouches and just a revelation of flavor); the amuse-bouche slices of coppa ham (a perfect combo of salty and sweet); the asparagus course (roasted atop a flat grill, encased in herbs: I am not a huge asparagus fan, but this was the most tender and tasty presentation of this veg that I've ever had); and the duck course with cherries and new potatoes. One small quibble: the "Strawberry 1" dessert featured raspberries, not strawberries, but they were lovely nonetheless. And I did the West Village 75 cocktail for starters (light, refreshing, imaginative), plus a glass of a white French wine to follow (sorry, but I can't remember which it was). If I had had the room in my tummy, I would have gone for a post-dinner port, but, alas, I was stuffed. The staff was attentive but refreshingly normal. I enjoyed a quick, mid-meal glimpse of Chef Barber being hurried through the restaurant on his way to the kitchen. My only non-food or service-related complaint is the appallingly disrespectful attire of quite a few patrons (especially the ones towing surly, smartphone-toting teens). I get it: This was just Thursday dinner for you and the fam. But for some of us, it was a delightful break from the usual and a chance to honor the roots of the farm-to-table genre.

Ever since seeing Blue Hill on the Netflix show Chefs table my wife and I had wanted to visit Blue Hill. We got our chance in August and we had a truly memorable experience. The service was superb - attentive and good humoured - we were asked about dietary requirements immediately which is always a good sign... ...but the food...Every dish was truly delicious but when they served my wife the roast chicken the smell was something I'd entirely forgotten. It was roast chicken to the power of 100. Every element was flavourful in the truest sense. Packed with taste and, for me, reminded me of my childhood and picking fresh tomatoes from my friends parents vines, or digging up veg from the garden and eating them fresh from the harvest. I hadn't tasted freshness like that for a long time. Worth every penny!

This is one of my favorite restaurant's to eat in New York City, they have very tasty and well cooked burgers. I always go here when I'm on a lunch break at work or just to go out to eat with my friends and family. Every time I go I order their biggest burger with their yummy French fries. Their food is very good the fries have good seasoning and the burger also. The restaurant is cleaning and the environment is very nice and positive and the chairs and tables are very nice. The staff are very friendly and always come to check on you and give you your drinks when you need them to give you your drinks. This is what I love about this fantastic restaurant that have the best burgers ever!

Outstanding service and delicious, surprising and fun food! The evening at Blue Hill met all our (very high) expectations. The restaurant has a somewhat “speakeasy”-feeling, being discreetly situated below street level just off of Washington Square Park, with a warm and welcoming ambience. We choose the Farmer’s Feast six-course tasting menu, focusing on local products (farm to table). The food was delicious, and the waiters very knowledgeable about all the ingredients, even showing us the vegetables we were not previously familiar with. The presentations of the dishes were amazing. Highly recommended!

Huge fan of Family Meal at Blue Hill. I was afraid to be disappointed because I was blown away by the Tarrytown location, but the Blue Hill in the city was amazing as well. I love the family meal, menu-less concept, and I was pleasantly surprised. Several shared plates per each of the 4 courses were presented using the freshest of ingredients. There wasn't a single dish I didn't like. I particularly enjoyed the day's bread course and chicken main plate. Service is was on point as well.

Excellent 2 star Michelin experience but lacking something? I’m not sure how to explain it, the food was good and staff was friendly but I was very underwhelmed. The food was good, don’t get me wrong but not unique or with tons of flavor. There are stand alone tables but we ended up at a table with a half booth that was very close to our neighboring table. For the price and prestige, a bit more privacy would be great. When you’re sharing a bottle of wine, conversation flows but when you start to feel like you have to censor what you’re even talking about because your neighbors silence up and keep glancing over to get in on the tea, it becomes annoying. I did enjoy their little taco making plate that came out. I also enjoyed one of the first dishes which were some radishes. Again, the food was overall great but something special was missing. I’d go back to give it another chance, maybe this was a one off, strange experience for us, but wouldn’t go out of my way to go back.

Every bite was delicious and it lived up to our expectations. Since there were four of us; we tried almost everything on the menu and everything was excellent. The farm pig was wonderful, featuring three slices of pork from different parts of the animal, which was fascinating. I do wish the portion has been larger (I'm guessing it was 3 ounces total?). I realize one of the ways top restaurants make money is in small portions (after all, they are very tasty and you don't go to fine restaurants for massive quantities), but this was the main course, and it just enough for a grown adult. The entire waitstaff was outstanding: smart, helpful, cheery, and friendly. We're very glad we went.

If you like to be adventurous when dining, aren’t put off by small portions or lack of proteins, appreciate surprises to your tastebuds and brain then Blue Hill NYC is a must do. Service was impeccable, the sommelier was engaging and gave us excellent options to match our tastes. Three ordered the farmers feast and one the daily menu. All courses were expertly prepared and plated - artful and delicious, not too fussy. It was also a nice touch that the one that ordered the daily menu received an extra course which helped take away the awkwardness of not eating while others at the table were enjoying their food. We were lucky to have tomatoes featured in many of our dishes and the chefs captured the true essence of summer tomatoes each and every time. Amazing! Yes, it was expensive but if you’re able to splurge, don’t hesitate. And while portions are on the smaller side, you will not leave hungry. Truly inspired farm-to-table culinary adventure!

From the moment you sit down you are in for a treat! The cocktails are so much fun. I had the Yellow Jacket combination of honey, egg whites and turmeric which gives the drink the perfect color and balance. Since the menu is ever changing I hope you can drive the diver scallop which is behind delicious and the Juice pulp cheeseburger which if even better as beefless. Th beer ice cream is unusual as is almost everything here. Presentation and fresh and amazing incredients and combinations that only a genius chef like Dan Barber could dream up. The ambiance is also fantastic and the staff world class!

There is nothing negative to say about this restaurant. The menu is thoughtful; the bartender is exceptional; the wine list is excellent; the service couldn't be better; and all of this is only surpassed by the food. The duck we had was possibly the best I have ever had. Tender and cooked to perfection. Dan Barber obviously knows what he is doing. If you're visiting NYC, do not leave without dining here.

Ok. The phrase "farm to table" is what drew my party of some who enjoy a tasting menu. I opted for the farmers feast. The plus side: the service-host, servers, bartenders, sommelier, and all staff were five star. The problem is the food. Not only would I consider it nothing special, I would consider it worse than any meal I can recall eating in several years. Every course. And it is a huge commitment of time. It never got better. My entire party was in agreement. Please try to do better.

Wow! A truly unexpected delight. We did the 4 course tasting and it was simply perfection. The chef uses in season produce in such imaginative ways. The sauces set the dishes apart. The cocktails were unique. I can’t wait to go back.

The service was impeccable. Everyone was Informative with genuine smiles. We did the 6 course meal. Highlights included the chocolate duck patè and the raw fish course. We wanted to take pictures of the food to show our friends who asked but luckily the atmosphere is too classy for that nonsense. Everything was beautiful. My only critique (and full disclosure I have an untrained eye) the goat cheese yogurt was confusing. It was like your mom was forcing you to eat ice cold plain Gogurt spoonfuls when you’re halfway through a savory burrito. Definitely a place to treat yourself to a divine meal and be catered too. We were seeing a Broadway show after the meal and our lovely server Adrienne was kind enough to make sure we on schedule to get there on time. All around amazing.

Came here for a birthday celebration. Excellent, inventive menu, fabulous service, great ambience. We both did the "Farmer's Feast" menu, and the bottle of Nerello Mascalese was excellent (recommended by the sommelier). Highly recommended!

I highly recommend the carrot martini with dry greek yogurt. Yes, the drink! One of the most amazing last minute dinners at the most reasonable prices! Prefix + drinks = +178!!!! WHAT!!! Reminder! Photos and phones are not allowed!

Having read the book, bought into the concept and was very much anticipating the great feast, I (and my 5 diners) was disappointed. Nothing to write home about, adequate courses, vastly overrated based on menu and descriptions. Favourite was the dessert - strawberries 2 ways. i won't recommend this place and I won't be back. Very disappointed as would be the readers of the "Third Plate"

We dined here one evening in March and the warmth of the restaurant, figuratively and literally, was a welcome respite from the cold weather. We ordered the Daily Menu and the meal was very nice; original, great flavours and professional service. The sweet potato with granola is quite novel. Never had this combination and it worked well. The spanish mackeral had the sweetest artichoke I had ever tasted. We had the venison and lamb for our protein courses and both were expertly prepared. The acidicity of the cabbagge was very complimentary with the rich venison. The dessert was quite original. The use of triticale (a hybrid wheat/rye grain) with white chocolate -- is not only tasty but a healthy dessert as well. If there was a 4.5 rating option then I would have given it to Blue Hill. Not quite 5 stars in my opinion but very close. Will try the Farmer's Feast next time for that 5 star experience.

Blue Hill exceeded our high expectations on our first visit to celebrate our 25th anniversary with our two adult children. From the personalized welcome to the attentive staff, the restaurant creates the right ambience to fully focus on and enjoy it's amazing food. Two of us had the six course farm feast and two had the four course menu. We shared every plate and were so pleased by the fresh flavors, creative combinations, and delicious preparations. We've had outstanding meals in Paris, Florence, Arles, Madrid, Valencia, Barcelona, Lima, Buenos Aires, Washington, San Francisco. Blue Hill exceeds those meals and is fully deserving of all its accolades. Don't miss the opportunity if you get the chance--you will be so happy you made it to this table.

Good, but I've had SO MANY better meals for SO MUCH less money and with much less fuss. Sadly, neither of us were impressed, which we kind of have to be to justify the price tag.

Blue Hill is one of the best restaurants I've ever went to! Everything was presented beautifully! Everything tasted amazing! Great! Super nice staff!

We came to Blue Hill after seeing the main restaurant on Chefs Table and it did not disappoint. Firstly the restaurant couldn't honour our original booking due to a party and so asked us to re-book for any other night (which meant we got a saturday night 8pm reservation which we wouldn't have got otherwise!). It was a birthday occasion and we were greeted at the door like royalty, given one of the best tables in the house and a welcoming glass of bubbles and many apologies re cancelling our first booking. We had the taster menu with wine pairing which was absolutely exquisite and even had an extra course for birthday congratulations and further apologies which led to an extra course with a tour of the kitchen! All the staff were exceedingly knowledgable on the food and drink and seemed to be briefed on our circumstances and we were made to feel so special and it was honestly one of the best culinary experiences in my life thanks to the food and utterly wonderful staff members.

Like all good hipster foodies, my boyfriend and I have watched the Blue Hill episode of Chef's Table several times, so when we happened to be in New York for my birthday, he took me for dinner at Dan Barber's NYC outpost as a surprise. And WHAT a surprise! Blue Hill totally lived up to expectations. I love the farm to fork philosophy, and (without sounding like too much of a sycophant) you can really taste the sustainable farming techniques in every mouthful of food. You'll never taste a carrot as good as a Blue Hill carrot, I promise! Our favourite dishes were liver and chocolate (sounds bonkers, tastes amazing) and a lobster bisque. Service was attentive but not intrusive. We told the cocktail waitress that we were still a little jet lagged as we'd only landed from London the day before, and she made us an amazing mezcal espresso martini, which (impressively) both woke us up and complimented the food beautifully. A dining experience that will live long in my memory. Thank you Blue Hill.

Can barely describe in words how much I enjoyed eating at Blue Hill! First heard of it on Chef's Table, and managed to get a lucky last minute reservation. Have been back home in Australia for a few months now, and still think about the food we had there. Thank you for taking such pride in flavoursome food!

DISAPPOINTED. We have eaten at Stone Barns in Westchester and loved it. Not so much here. The room is comfortable but last night was way too warm and try as our server did, she couldn't get management to do anything about it. I started with a salad that was quite nice. Dale started with risoto which she liked but when she tried to get some bread to sop up the moist parts was told that they don't bring bread until the next course............seriously...........a little formulaic??? That said, we did manage to convince our server to break the rule. The egg dish wasn't much. I don't know what it was served on but whatever it was was rock hard. Included was what looked like a hot dog but it was tomato and it was dry and a failure. I next had beets. The PH was way too high and when I pointed this out to our server she said that it's the way they cook that dish. Dale had the lamb and didn't like anything about it. Desserts were lovely. When our bill came, our server had cut it in half as Dale hadn't eaten most of her dinner. This was a nice gesture which leads me to think that whoever's in charge of the kitchen had looked into what was doing. Maybe the experience we had was the one they wanted and we're just not tuned into their palate. Maybe last night's cook was off. Finally, the pace of our meal was longer than we're used to. A dinner like this, from our point of view, should take about 2 hours. This meal took 2 1/2 hours and we felt as though we were waiting too long after each course.

We had an amazing and memorable meal. Each dish was full of flavour and beautifully presented. Cooking at its brilliant best…

I’ll start by saying we’ve eaten at some amazing places in many many places all over but Wow after looking forward to eating here with my wife of 30 years for our Anniversary and my 55 birthday I have to say WOW- WHAT A HUGE LETDOWN!!! Without expounding about the oddness of the first few dishes (we didn’t like a thing) as our server who was wonderful came to take our plates for the next course she asked how things were- we told her “thanks but we are just going to head out”. You would have thought we said something bad about their family. The manager came over and asked what’s up and was very cool but totally shocked about us wanting to leave. “The ones that got away”. There ought be folks who think being served one baby carrot each is cool, not us. There might be some that like whipped lard to go with super mini beets (1 each) about the size of a dime- but not us. And so it would have gone on! With it being a farm to table place- I’m just wondering what juice pulp has to do with burgers or farms. Not for us and after talking with a few folks about our experience- apparently not for them either... the comments were “what are they trying to do with these dishes.” Had we stayed and eaten here, I can promise you’d still be hungry. We went back to hotel and had pretzels and cheese corn with a Manhattan and gin tonic. For those of you old enough- maybe this place has jumped the shark....!

Superb!! My wife and I had yesterday one of the best culinary experiences in our lives. Not only the organic and fresh products but the combination of flavors are just unbelievable. I have had set the expectation bar super high and the experience surpassed such level. Let’s not forget about the wine list. Finally, the decor, service and ambiance were complements of an amazing night.

So admittedly, it is impossible to select wines as you are unclear what y you are eating. But you are offered a wine pairing. Random plates were brought out. The food was mostly great. But the wine pairings were not great and were a very poor value. $95 for 5 half glasses of wine is a lot for young, bad wines. The wine pairings really hindered the evening.

The service at this restaurant could not be more professional and inviting, which is made this experience all the more heartbreaking. Incredibly Intimate dining space (nice way of saying really small). Dish one fennel on a wooden plank, dish two was one radish with fennel paste for dipping. Okay maybe they are just trying to WOW us with simplicity, don’t throw in the towel yet! This is fine dining You’re just too unsophisticated to recognize it... By course 4 i was starting to feel terrified as to what was to come out next, the excitement had turned to dread. The manager, came over with a dead stare And condescendingly asked what they could do to make our dining experience more pleasurable. Ummm now that I think of it could you turn this entire 8 course disaster into a McDonald’s trio???? The “sweet” course followed... I would like to thank the chef for single handedly ruining ice cream. This is a huge undertaking that not many believe can be done but this chef found a way. No more late nights with Netflix for me. I travelled 5 hours to experience this.

I hate writing this review bc I had heard such great things about Blue Hill and was excited to visit. However, while service was phenomenal, the food was sub-par. I’ve debated for the past few days whether or not this just wasn’t my thing, and the food was actually great, but I don’t think so. I enjoy modern, interesting food, but we ended up sending multiple things back, having one course replaced, and ultimately I just decided to push the contents of my last course around so as to avoid having to discuss my dislike of it with the server. The worst part for me was the smoked mullet fish course - it was so rubbery that you literally could not cut it with a knife. The rest of the table left with similar feelings on the visit (some even stronger than my feelings on it). I actually went home and had some leftovers. We felt like we were in some sort of skit where everyone else loved everything, but we couldn’t figure out why. Multiple people at our table had eaten at the blue hill near westchester and loved it previously, so, overall, it definitely was a miss for our group this visit, but I’m willing to write it off to a bad night in the kitchen. With that said, we won’t be back.

My friend told the waitress he was driving back to Maryland that night. However when I ordered wine they did not bring it. Then when I asked where my wine was another lady came and said that the couldn’t serve us wine because we said we were driving. I told he I was not driving that only my friend was driving. She went to talk to the supervisor then told me it doesn’t matter they can’t serve either one of us. So they refused to serve me when even though I was not driving. It’s nonsensical and terrible service.

The veggie dishes were exquisite, pork succulent, servers helpful, friendly and discreet. 2 quibbles: - portion size is itsy bitsy, plates artfully arranged but empty looking.I know their primary offering is a tasting menu, but for instance, a braised endive appetizer consisted of about half of one small endive. - music was upbeat 70s and 80s pop. Some may find that cheerful and energizing, I found it distracting and invasive.

we loved the welcome, the decor and the food but in all honesty left hungry and we were three women. My husband and son would have been starving. The presentation is superb and service slick but was it worth the money? probably not.

Family table at Blue Hill was a great experience! Some really unique dishes that all felt healthy but so flavoursome. Definitely recommend but comes with the NYC price tag as expected

Went to this Michelin star restaurant as a graduation celebration. And it absolutely lived up to the expectations. Wonderful food amazing service and terrific wine. Would recommend to anyone who enjoys good quality fancy food and atmosphere.

We weren’t certain we were up for a multi course “event” kind of dinner, but holy cow, this place is amazing. It’s a small number (4) of courses and each, along with the wine pairing, comes with a story.

Went here 4 years ago after chefs table featured it, and was blown away by the amazing menu and home grown foods. It's kept up to date with food styles and family meal is just as amazing.

We enjoyed watching the episode about Blue Hill on Chef's Table quite a bit more than actually eating there. In my view, for the money, there are many better restaurants in NYC. On the positive side, the cocktail menu was imaginative and had some great creations. The wine list was comprehensive and fairly priced. Our waitress was personal and attentive. As to the disappointments - we arrived on a Friday evening only to wait standing at the check in desk for an extended period of time while no one welcomed or acknowledged our party. Finally we were greeted, without any apology for the delay, by a young lady who looked more appropriate in a Hunger Games set than a top restaurant. We were led to a table in the "garden room", a section of the restaurant separate from the main dining room. Although it was a bit more quiet and intimate in our area, it did seem like we were in a second class seating area. We opted for the $108 Farmers Feast which wasn't bad - it just wasn't great. Likewise the service was attentive, but it wasn't exceptional. I kept waiting for the exceptional tastes and textures, but they never came. To be fair, perhaps it was the early fall season that limited some of the farm to table options. But I doubt it. We have been fortunate to dine at a number of top restaurants around the world and the US. This isn't one of them.

I have to say i havent been here post covid because i just havent gotten around to it, but its one of the best restaurants in NYC without being pretentious or impossible to get into. I have not had the pleasure of going to the Farm one in the country, but i have visited this city location at least 5 times and always leave thinking i need to return ASAP.

We got to go to Blue Hill for our one year engagement anniversary, and it was great! All of the vegetables are super fresh because the are from farms around NYC. The illumination is the necessary just for a romantic getaway!

There was so much talk about this restaurant that I wanted to try it for myself to see what it was all about. Located on Washington square below street level, a small restaurant with cramped tables. They truly are maximizing their square footage. They had two different options for dinner. Either the Farmer's feast which is a tasting menu or the Daily menu which is limited. A couple of appetizers, followed by a couple of entrees and dessert. I opted for the Farmer's feast and I was not disappointed. I loved every vegetable option including the celtuce ( a root vegetable which I had never had). The grass fed beef was ok, nothing special. The strawberry dessert was refreshing and light. The service was friendly and they really wanted you to enjoy your dinner. Overall it was a great experience.

My experience at Blue Hill was a good one. I highly enjoyed the atmosphere, it has this great mood lighting going on that makes it the perfect place to take someone on a date. I originally saw the restaurant on a special on Netflix, and while I was in New York I decided to check it out. I was not disappointed. The food was amazing, and you could tell they use fresh products. While it was a bit pricey, it was well worth the cost. The presentation of the food is very professional, and you feel like you're dining at a place that you'd see featured on a television show. Tip: make reservations! This place stays very busy! The seating is kind of cramped, so if you're on a date, you have to kind of keep your voice down. The waiting staff was very friendly, and the manager even came out to our table to make sure we were enjoying our meal.

This is a very small restaurant and we were squashed into a corner. There was less then 2 inches between our table and the one next to us which I don't like. The service was a little brusque. Not friendly and chatty. Food was lovely. Mostly delicious and the wine was good too. Not sure I'd rush back but overall a pleasant enough experience

Many interesting organic-fused dishes on their menus. It is impressive so much effort was used to create unique and pleasing dishes with mushrooms, pork, lamb, fish, squash. They were all tasty enough but it was staff that made this an intimate and wonderful dining experience. Our server and rest of the crew were in constant movement like it was choreographed. And they were just a pleasant group of young people. Cocktail creations with infused butternut squash and rum, thoughtfully selected craft beers were so fun to try. Wine was so expensive, but what the heck!

Visited Blue Hill on Saturday with several tablemates whose preference vary from gourmet to fastfood-lovers. The unequivocal consensus was that it was a wonderful experience with ‘taste’ being the central theme. I could elaborate on the details, but it is best to just experience this culinary night on the town for yourself. Staff is most attentive, professional and authentic. The music is worth a special mention; imo it added an extra dimension. I think that this is truly authentic contemporary American cuisine, well worth your time and money ( you do get value for money, by far more then elsewhere). It is not perfect, but what keeps lingering on is the delight of the taste of the preparations and combinations of ingredients in a total package that is befitting a high-end experience. There was once California Cuisine, and maybe this could be the next step...

This is a Great place to get a good meal. The food is exquisite and the the service is the best around. Would highly recommend to anyone!

We were in NYC for our holidays with my boyfriend late last summer. We made the reservation about a week before for dinner. And on the 29th of August we dressed up and arrived on time! After all we travelled half the planet to make it happen. Athens, Greece that is our home seemed so far. The restaurant itself is very chic but not flamboyant. The service was excellent throughout the night. We chose the Daily Menu costing 95 USD per person without wine (one of the two choices of set menu, the second was the Farmer's Feast costing 110 USD per person without wine). The Daily Menu consisted of a salad, an entree (or a first course), a main and a dessert. We also ordered a bottle of white Sicilian wine from their wine list costing around 60 USD with the help of their amazing sommelier who was extremely helpful, knowledgeable and so friendly but not overpowering. We got an amuse bouche as the chef's welcome and we knew by that first bite that we are in for a treat. Each plate was a revelation. The produce that comes from their own farm was exquisite. I am not getting into detail about the plates because the menu changes every six months (or something) so it's already different. The pace of the plates arriving at our table was as close to perfect as it can get. It was certainly one of those experiences that you'll never forget. After all these months the memory of the taste is still so vivid! Well done Mr Barber and Team! You have made two loyal greek friends in us. I just dream of my next visit! Maybe we'll go to the restaurant on the Blue Hill Farm next time...

We had so much fun making fun of the food. It was good but just the overall presentation and the size made us laugh each time. Great COSMOS! Haha Then, I know it’s mean, we made fun of a guy that ran out of the restaurant and started vomiting... still I was going to give it 3 stars, however Karma got us! We got terribly sick after. Around 3am, both of us started vomiting and having stomach cramps... I will wrap this up by saying: NOT WORTH IT, not funny!

i can't say enough about this dining experience! My husband and I first dined there when we were in NYC for the weekend and we had such a great time that i took my 2 daughters a month later when we were in the city for a Mother's Day celebration. the staff is friendly, knowledgeable and extremely helpful. The food is like nothing you have ever experienced. A burst of flavors that truly amaze. Well worth the trip and the cost. Make sure you book a month in advance.....

We came here for an anniversary dinner and were seated in a very nice, private corner of the garden room. We order the feast and tasting menu and sampled a few wines. This was the best food we’ve had in years (last was in Napa), the service was friendly and casual with good explanations and recommendations and timely service. While we were stuffed at the end I want to do the extended feast next time to get the extra surprise dishes. Will be back for sure!

Let me start by saying that the service is exceptional and the food is good but I have an issue when one standard peace of bread is bigger then prefix meal. I do not like to over eat but I should not think about stopping for food on my way home after a 300+ dollar meal. If I would be on weight watchers I would have points left over after multiple course dinner.

Not only was the food innovative and insanely delicious, the service was just low key and real. The food (wow, the pork was beyond any description I can muster) was presented family style and casual -- but what you are actually eating is anything but. I had a habanero whose capsaicin was engineered out, and only sweetness remained. But it's not gimmicky and there's no molecular theater -- the best way to describe it is down home high dining, as oxymoronic as that sounds.. The environment is dim and cozy, like you're part of an exclusive back room supper club.

The place is quietly tucked away and might be hard to find but well worth it. Amazing décor followed by FANTASTIC food and GREAT service. I was really impressed. Well worth it.

There was a story behind every ingredient. The flavors were intense and well balanced. The ambiance was romantic. Every staff member of Blue Hill could tell you everything about each dish. Amazing experience.

Having read so much and seen the Netflix piece, perhaps my expectations were unfairly high. With one exception, the food was excellent. We did the tasting menu, but I needed one substitution due to my intolerance to scallops (my husband said they were great) and it was on the weird side. Some sort of squash dish. I understand that they are doing different things in their approach, and it mostly worked well for the food. Where it didn't work well was the wine pairings. At $95, I expected mostly excellent. Instead I got 1 excellent, two good, one marginal, and one downright awful. Now I know every State in the US makes wine, but that doesn't mean they are all worth drinking. Put Vermont on your "don't bother" list. On another note, the service was exceptionally and in keeping with what you'd expect of a restaurant of this caliber. I would go back, but order wine by the glass (my husband doesn't drink).

We go to Blue Hill every year when we visit our son in NYC - it is now a tradition and our sixth time, and we love that it is consistently wonderful, relaxed, farm-fresh food, and great wine. Expect to find unusual greens/vegetables in your salads or with your entrees, always a treat, fish is excellent, perfectly cooked. There are two tasting menus, one a little smaller (my preference) than the other (my husband's choice) - but portions are proportionate so that you leave feeling fed with high-quality fare but not stuffed or overwhelmed--elegance and a lighter touch over heavy sauces and big plates.

Blue Hill impressed from the moment we walked in. The service staff is professional and knowledgeable. The food itself highlights the beauty of each ingredient and does not try to process each ingredient beyond recognition. We need more restaurants like this.

The dining room is a bit small, condensed and dark, so the people is very close and the atmosphere a bit loud. It does give -however- a nice animated ambiance. More a bar than a restaurant. The food was really great. A focus on vegetables, with sauces mixtures reminding Mediterranean recipes (mint, sunflowers) and playing with textures. Jus the butter with grains and seeds was gorgeous. I found the lamb particularly spectacular: incredible point of cooking, the combination of textures of the meat, grease and skin was a pleasure, combined with a deep natural flavor. Wow! Impecable service. Top place.

We had the daily tasting menu. 4 courses with a choice for each except dessert. The food was absolutely lovely. A few pre dinner delights such as radish with a tarragon emulsion and home cured coppa. Each course was presented beautifully and tasted delicious. Service was attentive but not over the top. Price wise it was up there but I think for the quality of food it was worth it. The wine list was a bit daunting but you could get good wine for a reasonable price. If you talk nicely to your waiter he might even suggest a great wine bar not too far away! Would definitely return when next in NYC and recommend to anyone wanting a lovely night out without having too tight a budget.

It’s difficult to get to the “meat” of the meal’s quality when the Maitre D’ has done everything in his power to put a sour twist in our evening. Our family of foodies made reservations at this highly touted Chef’s establishment exactly one month in advance as per the restaurant’s protocol. We came in from all over the country for my nephew’s graduation from NYU. To say that Jason’s conduct demonstrated in his rudeness, blatant lies and disregard for our patronage, was disconcerting and uncomfortable, is an understatement. All we asked for was for our two four-top tables to be seated together. We had called in advance and told that it would be no problem. When seated, there were two tables in between us Jason came up with a plethora of lies as to why our tables could not possibly be next to each other ... the tables were reserved in advance by regulars (said “regulars” asked for directions to the bathroom and for instructions as to how the menu worked). No matter how politely we asked, we were met with snobby attitude and cold attitude. Even the waiters were astounded. I will handle the food in a separate review. The chef has worked too hard to create such a wonderful space and should not have his ambiance ruined by an immature unsophisticated and unseasoned maitre d. He needs to go elsewhere. Waitstaff were terrific!!!!

Possibly the most delicious meal I've ever had. It's rare to find food that is so beautifully presented where each bite is also SO tasty. The portions are delicate - I've seen other people say this as a negative, but if you are enjoying a multiple course tasting menu, I liked being able to try lots of different things without being uncomfortably full at the end. All the courses were original and surprising. The farm-to-table element is really evident. Service is also five star. Ambience is nice and relaxed, not overly stuffy considering that it's fine dining. It's very expensive but worth it for the quality of the food.

What can I say, this was one of the finest dining experiences I've ever had in my life. There was about 6 courses and all of the food complimented each other along with the wine selection. The atmosphere was relaxed and very nice. I came here before a broadway show and really enjoyed the experience with my family. I cannot say how important it is to understand that this is a fine dining experience and you should come prepared to be amazed! I'd expect nothing less from a restaurant thats received a Michelin star.

Good restaurant but not quite Michelin quality. We visited last in 2015 and the quality and service was better. Long wait for water..15 min. No one came to check on us. I liked the tasting menu better.

This was THE spot my adult son wanted to visit on his birthday trip to NYC with me and his sister. He had seen the Netflix documentary on Blue Hill and it totally inspired him. He planted it in his mind that he wanted to visit Dan Barber's restaurant one day. When I told him I wanted to take him to NYC for his birthday, the first thing he asked to do was to visit here. He raved about the restaurant all the way to NYC. He even had us watch the documentary so we could understand why he was so excited about it. Before we came, we all had super high expectations. I was kind of worried that our expectations were too high. As the first dish was served and we bit into the raw veggies, we didn't know exactly what we were to expect - after all, how different could a radish be? But we thoroughly enjoyed each bite. When it came to the turnip, we hesitated - raw turnip? After we took a bite, we looked at each other and almost at the same time said: "That's a turnip?!" It was incredible - sweet - juicy - perfect. We ate everything - greens and all - it's that good and that fresh. With each dish that was served, we found ourselves transported to a time and place where food was alive - where simple foods tasted incredible all on their own, and where food could be enjoyed without punishing you later. When we made our reservations, I indicated that my daughter and I were gluten-free and dairy-free. We always avoid those because we don't do well with the glyphosate found in most wheat products (from Round-up being used on the crops) and the hormones and antibiotics pumped into dairy cows that make their way into the milk. After we watched the documentary, we decided to drop the restrictions. My daughter was almost in tears as she bit into bread and butter that was so incredibly delicious that she was wishing she could find a way to have it every day. We all enjoyed the dairy, bread, and every part of each course. And, hours later, we didn't have to "pay the price". The price had been paid ahead of time by sourcing ingredients that both taste delicious and deliver proper nutrition to the body without any harmful additions. We couldn't have been happier. We enjoyed our meal so much that we decided to change our plans and go back for the Sunday lunch 2 days later. That was an equally wonderful experience. And, what meal out is complete without incredible serving staff! The staff here are wonderful and went out of their way to welcome us and help us celebrate my son's birthday in the perfect way. Thank you to everyone at Blue Hill Restaurant. And thank you to Dan Barber for your commitment to a vision. We see it with you. Our only regret is not being able to meet the chefs who created such fantastic food. Your talents were greatly enjoyed by us three.

Dan Barber is a genius and it shows in every bite of food and every dish presented. It’s a must try for those who like farm to table, simple yet elegant food. The farmers menu was incredible and the service and atmosphere memorable and special.

Came here on my birthday evening for a treat with my husband. Place is a little hard to find as it is below street level, tiny with very small signage. We were welcomed to a lovely table for 2. Wait staff explained the menu and answered all questions. We were able to have a 5 course dinner (not technically offered) because we were both torn on our final entree decision. A small surcharge was applied. The wine list is a little over the top - it is quite noticeable that all the affordable bottles are nothing you ever heard of from places not really known for wine-making. But luckily I was able to find something from Campania region that I inquired on. It was nicely priced and delicious. Dishes were creatively prepared, if a little bit salty. The seafood stew was yummy and the origami pasta looked like a painstaking work or art. The only dessert - a spin on traditional blueberry pie was a little bit boring and I was disappointed there wasn't something else to choose. All in all, it was a wonderful experience and not often you get to dine at a world renowned food mecca.

We visited Blue Hill in Greenwich Village for my birthday dinner. This was the only way I could get my very picky husband to agree to go because of the set daily/farmers menus. My husband does not eat anything aside from red meat and potatoes. I was so surprised to see a wine from Liguria, Italy on the wine list. My husband proposed to me there so that was a fun way to start the evening. The sommelier came over and talked to us a little bit about the winemaker from that winery, too, which made it a very special glass of wine. Our meal was a symphony, small dishes and fast at first and slower as we went. We wouldn't even notice sometimes when a server would put down or take something from our table. The dishes were beautiful and Dan Barber and his team of chefs really allow the vegetables to shine. My husband (who only likes red meat and potatoes) LOVED the vegetables. He could not stop talking about them. He ordered the delicious farm pig as his entree but his favorite part was the vegetables! I have never, ever, ever heard him say he liked a vegetable in his entire life and here we were with him saying that they were his favorite part. The vegetables were so beautifully prepared and slightly seasoned to bring out their flavors. I have never had such delicious asparagus and lettuce. I don't normally like radishes but the radishes at Blue Hill were phenomenal. We also ordered seconds of the bread. The bread tasted like bread! You unfortunately don't have that experience much anymore. The flavors and texture were delicious. The butter was light but creamy with seeds and grain on top to add more texture. Dessert was so fun. It was a strawberry mint creamy concoction that slapped you in the face with mint at first. Then it was beautifully balanced and the crunch (I forget what was crunchy... oats at the bottom I think?) was so satisfying. I wish I could give Blue Hill 10 stars. We can't afford to go back in the next decade but I'm so glad we have our experience there to look back on. It is a meal we will never forget.

From first drop of sparkling to last sip of local bitters with amazing food in between - it was a wonderful experience! Went there for my husbands birthday - intimate, elegant with outstanding service (thanks Leslie)!! 100% recommend!

Upheld its reputation for the best tasting, innovative, fresh farm-to-table food on the east coast. Its ever-changing menu reflects food availability. Can’t wait to visit again.

I was shocked we were able to get a last minute reservation on our vacation, but they squeezed us in and I’m so glad they did! Like many others, I saw the “chefs table episode” and had been obsessed with eating here ever since. On a whim (and super cheap flight deals on Frontier lol) my friend and I decided to book a trip to NYC for 4 days and begged them to fit us in at Blue Hill, and they did! It was magical. I can’t think of any other words to describe the experience. Food like you’ve never tasted it before. Fresh, creative, dishes and a wonderful cocktail and wine list. We started with 2 cocktails that were amazing and they started just bringing out fresh veggies and treats from the farm, on the house, before the actual tasting started. What an awesome surprise! We ordered a bottle of wine and our tasting began (we both selected the 6 course tasting menu) and it was everything we imagined it would be and more. Very nice dessert wine and cordial selection as well, we decided on a sherry to finish off our dessert course. 5 stars from beginning to end! Let me not forget the service, it was phenomenal. I can’t wait to return when I’m in NYC.

So fresh! The vegetables were out of this world! Every taste was delightful! Each of our courses with just one exception, the tile fish, were sublime! The service was terrific! This is truly one of the best restaurants in the world! The staff did a magnificent job catering to our dairy free needs!

I am really surprised at the amount of rave reviews of Blue Hill. We went with very open minds and were looking forward to it. The room is nice and the music was good so we were optimistic, but off the bat we were greeted by haughty, unfriendly, waiters which set the tone for the evening. We ordered one of each menu and shared them between us. I have been to many excellent restaurants all around the world, and feel comfortably experienced with high end food. I can honestly say I don't remember much of what we ate at Blue Hill, as it was so unremarkable. It was nice enough but that's about the best I can do. The one dish I DO remember was a plate that was supposed to be of pork (they call it 'pig' which is fairly off-putting) - although the only pork there were tiny scraps, the rest was pure fat. The waiter seem shocked that we were unhappy with this, but brought us another dish to replace it. We were very grateful for the new plate but it was equally meh. After finishing the meal we ordered coffee - we had barely taken a sip when the bill was slapped down on the table. We hadn't asked for the bill. This was the final nail in the coffin that after bad service and very mediocre food, the restaurant seemed to be asking us to leave. I spoke to the manager about this as we left the restaurant, as we found it shockingly poor etiquette and quite frankly rude, especially after dropping the amount of cash we just had. We were assured it was a 'training' issue and that they were not trying to turn the tables around quickly etc etc but the damage was done. This restaurant is truly not worth it, there are a multitude of better, cheaper, less pretentious to go in NYC!!

Quality decor, subtle lighting giving you a street view of passers by. We opted for the Farmers Feast, and were not disappointed, we had two surprise courses both of which were very tasty. Our waitress was very attentive and friendly, the only criticism I have is that when the food is bought different staff explain the produce in different ways so some were much more informative than others. Some of the flavours were very interesting, and you can certainly taste the difference with all the produce being so fresh. An expensive meal but if you enjoy good food you won't mind paying.

Innovative, healthy and delicious food in a warm environment. Food presentation was great and tasted as good as it looked. Bread was outstanding and lamb magnificent. Great experience

Bring an open mind, cash and an appetite and you will be satisfied. I say cash because the web site says cash, but I saw a credit card also at the restaurant, so call ahead. Not everyone carries $500.00 which this restaurant will cost for two with a bottle of wine. I started with a martini which was fair at best. The tasting menu was excellent and two glasses of wine each approached $400.00 without tax and tip. But, food was excellent, service attentive with semi- pro service being we had a college girl working weekends. She was good, but should have been excellent for the setting. I was disappointed with some clientele looking shabby when a jacket and open collar should be the minimum.

My husband and I visited Blue Hill at my insistence as I love food and was really keen to visit one of the top rated restaurants in NYC. Beautiful space, lovely staff and great wine however the tasting menu was not memorable and I have had far better tasting experiences in Europe at a significantly lower cost. The portions were too small, I know that small is standard on a tasting menu however Blue Hill take that custom too far. Nothing stood out, I expected the heirloom tomatoes and the pork to blow me away but the flavours were not memorable in the slightest. Left a bit disappointed. The USA is not a foodie destination for Europeans.

We enjoyed it but I think the company was better than the food. I believe in sustainability, but I feel like it could taste better. The food was good but not memorable. The service was memorable, well done.

What a great experience - and it was a true experience. From their warm welcome and perfect table, to their peerless service - it was an exceptional dinner. We felt pampered and savored every bite. The flavors were incredible - even liver and chocolate was a winner!

Wonderful experience with food and service, absolutely delightful. Many of the mini courses were unexpected and we were thrilled with the attention to detail and our palettes. Matching wines were fantastic also. Loved it!

Pros: - Inventive food. After eating at 30+ Michelin-starred restaurants in NYC, Blue Hill was a novel experience. Lots of focus on vegetables and the most farm-to-table restaurant I've been to. The best meal I've had this year. - Freshest ingredients -- menu changes based on what's available in the market. I tried some new breeds of produce for the first time. - Featured on Chef's Table series on Netflix Cons: - Low-ceiling space with very close tables -- Could easily hear the table next to us and their conversation. - Poor service for such a famous restaurant -- My cocktail was knocked over and spilled on me and my dining partner. Although the servers did bring napkins to help clean up the mess as well as a stain remover, they didn't even comp the spilled drink on the check...poor service. My dining partner sat w cocktail on his shirt and cuffs.

The restaurant has a very cool, classic, and intimate vibe, with just the right amount of liveliness! Everyone was so hospitable and service was perfect! My husband and I had the 7 course tasting menu with wine parings and enjoyed it very much. There are a few amuse-bouches before the tasting starts so I will tell you we were VERY full at the end, but loved it all. This is an updated version of the prix fixe menus at classics like Ai Fiori or Daniel. Blue Hill is truly a farm-to-table experience with less meat than I expected, but delicious nevertheless! Taylor was our waiter and he was so knowledgeable and outgoing and fun...we'd go back just to spend a couple of hours with him! Great experience all around and definitely a must if you want more of an eclectic tasting menu.

This was my first visit here and I was not disappointed. The view is breath taking, the service was fast and quick, the environment was awesome! The food was fresh and very very tasty! I was blown away for my first visit and I will definitely be coming back! Thank you for this experience and the amazing service!

Having spent the week in NYC we decided on 3 places to eat, I've reviewed the others already but just to say the decision to finish the holiday off at Blue Hill was superb as we're leaving with vivid memories of one of the best meals I've ever had. Went for the extended Farmers Menu one of us (me, obvs) going for a non traditional drinks pairing. I can't overstate this - every single mouthful be it food or drink was delicious. A lot of the best things were the 'simplest' for example, u questionable the best bread and butter I've ever had. I've never been one to single out dishes and I get the distinct feeling the menu is ever changing based on availability and seasonality rendering specific dish discussion pointless. Every course, every morsel was devoured and appreciated and I'll leave it there. We were taken to meet the Chef proprietor and, busy as he was, we thought this a great touch and our server Adrian was as pleasant and attentive as anyone could hope for. She was ace in every way. Go here. It's world class.

Dinner with one of my partners on business in NYC. A truly terrific dinner in good surroundings (the quieter garden seating area in the back accessed next to the kitchen area), excellent service (the servers were helpful, articulate, welcoming and unobtrusive - but present whenever needed to pour more wine) and fresh and flavourful food selected from a unique and interesting menu. I opted for the “smaller” set menu and was delighted. From the squid risotto to the “morning farm egg” appetisers, followed up with the “juice pulp cheeseburger” main (think of a luxurious and tasty vege-burger which was so good that “vege” never even crosses your mind whilst eating it - just enjoy the delightful taste and texture sensations) - all of which was recommended by the helpful server. The flavours of the food really do stand out - a happy relief from so much of the bland food experienced at home in the Caribbean where so much of the imported ingredients have been frozen and thawed such that the natural tastes have been killed off. Excellent results here even when compared with the best restaurants elsewhere in New York and London. Truly a unique experience and one which is strongly recommended and which I would repeat in a heartbeat when back in New York.

We love fine dining; it has a serious priority for us, and we seek out and read a lot about fine restaurants all around. We had eaten here quite a few years ago, and kind of recalled the experience, but it had faded from our minds. A special occasion (birthday) brought us back and we are so happy to have had the second chance. This has vaulted to the near top in my favorite restaurant list. We were seated and welcomed warmly. Some places have staff that speak to you but aren't seemingly making any connection. Not true here. Everyone was very kind, warm and funny, and several staff came back around a few times without any real necessity, just to make sure we were take care of. Pretty exceptional. We opted for the tasting menu. It was 6 courses, but seemed like more as several unlisted dishes or bites came our way. I remember almost everything, but here was the star - a "beet" steak. The true magnificence of this dish was not lost on us by it's position in the courses - AFTER a wonderful veal course. That is confidence, a faux meat dish as a star after a pretty spectacular real meat course. Dessert was also pretty wonderful. To have a chocolate course that is more real chocolate flavor and less milk sugar was excellent. Wine was on us; we had a glass of Champagne to start, and went with a really nice Oregon Pinot for our meal. They offer wine pairings, but it seemed maybe a little decadent to us. I will bet they do it very well. This is an exceptional restaurant. Small, intimate, and beautiful. Highly recommended.

While I wish I were a true gourmet and could comment on the subtleties of fine dining, I'm not and I can't. But I can tell you the Blue Hill is worth your time, your money, your attention and your presence. The menu is creative, with a variety of choices to satisfy your favorites or "usuals" or challenge your preferences. The service is impeccable. The servers are pleasant and exceptionally knowledgeable about every menu item. The wine list is well organized, interestingly curated, in my humble opinion, and reasonably priced. That is not to say the wine list offers any bargains. The service is paced -- not slow and ponderous. Nor is it speedy. Ever dish is plated carefully with obvious respect for the food and for the diner. I felt like I had time to enjoy this course before considering the next. If you enjoy fine dining for its sake -- not for pomp and circumstance and "fanciness" -- and for the artistry of a truly creative kitchen, do not miss Blue Hill. Ever. At all.

Three of dine here. They push the envelope for fresh and unique. Rare and exotic vegetables prepared in unique ways. Diverse wine list with sommeliers to assist you.

I will visit Blue Hill every time I am in New York City. The food is innovative and wonderfully delicious. The service is spectacular. The ambience is wonderful. This is one terrific restaurant that understands hospitality and making you happy in every way.

We chose tasting menu for our dinner. Food ranged from excellent to good definitely not of equal quality. Lobster dumplings were excellent. Rooster was very good. Beet steak was only good, flavor and texture definitely did not live up to expectations

A warm, fun, trendy and discreet choice tucked on a quiet side street steps from Washington Square Park. You step downstairs and into a fine dining experience. A tiny bar awaits, but the treat begins when you are seated at your table. Service is helpful bot not overdone. Attention to detail is exquisite. The quality of the meals is very high. My only issue Is the menu is quite limited. The menu has two choices per course. The Farmers Feast is the tasting menu. They do it all well, and I enjoyed several items I wouldn't normally have. If you like farm to table and exquisite tastes, this place is perfect. I will return and am very glad I found this small and intimate gem.

This is farm to table at its best. The vegatables were fresh, the pig was wonderful, service couldn't be better. All in all a great night out.

Booked here for my birthday meal on our trip from London as soon as the reservations opened - you need to be quick off the mark as this has to still be one of the top spots in town. They paid great attention to my requests and made me feel so special - we were clearly in birthday corner as I was sharing a birthday with 3 other people along the line!! The food is incredible. Having eaten off Dan Barbers Wasted menu at Selfridges in London we were expecting great things as here no restrictions on produce. We had the farmers feast plus two additional courses and left feeling full but not bloated. Every bite was delicious. However aside from the food I really must must mention the service. World class is an expression I have only used once or twice before in all my reviews yet it deserves it here. All gorgeous naturally but special mention to Taylor, Danielle and the wonderful sommelier whose name we didn’t catch but she was spot on. These guys love their job, the food, the wine and their city. Hospitality is a skill and they are at the top of their game. They went as far as to sort out a reservation at an impossible to get into place for us the next night (I won’t name names in case everyone starts wanting the same!) and we were welcomed like royalty because of our connection to the team the previous night. The entire experience was so memorable and we will return next time we are lucky enough to be in the city and if the above are ever in London we want to extend the same warm welcome to you. First class.

We dined here for my daughter’s birthday. We had the four course tasting. The courses were delicious, interesting and beautifully plated but the portions were way too small. My husband ordered the lamb which consisted of maybe 4 or 5 bites. Thank goodness for the bread course (one piece each) so we asked for a second serving of bread. The pacing and service were excellent. I was disappointed that they do not have any high end vodka. A NYC tasting menu at under $100 seemed enticing, but you get what you pay for.

Plan to spend a nice leisurely evening at Blue Hill enjoying a myriad of delicious dishes with a range of flavors and textures. The serving staff is friendly and well-informed. And this is a relatively quiet dining room, which is an added treat.

We had an excellent meal at Blue Hill. The 2 tasting menus were so delicious. The fresh vegetables and creativity using them was amazing. Our waiter was engaging, informative. Will definitely go back

Hard to write - after the 3 dish of the farmers extended feast I was super happy, unbelievable the quality of the food, how they cooked it - how they presented it, the service all just spot on perfect. The only dish out if the 8 I did not appreciate was the eggplant one - but tastes are different. Also go for the wine paring! Those who rate the place bad, do not get it - was in a lot of places, ate food all around the globe, this is genuine an amazing place, a little a lot on the plate if you are used to Europe but for sure you will leave this place super super happy as we did. Highly recommend it!

We went to Blue Hill for our first year anniversary as a married couple. We ordered the chef's suggestion menu that night. The ingredients were so fresh that it even tastes different from the regular tastes! The service was very very good. The waitress knew everything about the ingredients and the wine she was offering. It was an amazing experience, so we hope to come back to New York and try the Blue Hill at Stone Barnes.

Presuming their approach is constant, there are two tasting menus from which to choose, but the house is quite attentive to allergies and food religions, so substitutions or amendments are possible. The food reflects our own current philosophy of food preparation: keep it simple, let the flavours of the main ingredients shine. One of the 3 'amuses bouche' for example was a half Habanero pepper raised [or modified?] to maintain the flavour of the pepper with none of the heat. Yes, there are sauces on some of the plates, but they were background notes to the pure flavours of the food. Service was remarkably pleasant and attentive -- staff use the 'platoon method' of serving larger groups, so each course hits the table simultaneously for everyone. The sommelier is knowledgeable about what is on their wine list but a few more less expensive selections would have been appreciated, though there is a decent selection of wines by the glass. By the end of the dinner, we were all quite satisfied, but a larger portion of beef would have been appreciated... I have attached the Oct. '18 menu but given house attention to the freshest ingredients, they must change it frequently.

I have read Barber’s book, I have known about him for a while now. I share his encomiabile approach to farming and sourcing. But when you need to run a restaurant in NY, or in big cities, you have to make ends meet. And for that you need to serve coherent and exquisitely fresh food, and have a great team of caring, passionate people. Well let me say that the food was so fresh I could recognise every individual taste in each plate served. Not a single plate was anonymous, or bland... everything sparked taste , colours , freshness. But the peak of the night was also the warmth, caring professionalism of the staff, all of them. I was welcomed by a smiling Ann, ready to look for the best place at the counter, by Danielle, who took my reservation and came to meet me, to give me her welcome ... in addition to serving me the specials of the chef. And then Olivier an Opera singer and fan, with a talent for cocktails, wines and food in general. Well done, with a team like this, one would want to spend all evenings at Blue Hill

I have always wanted to try a Dan Barber restaurant and have heard great things about Blue Hill in the media. All of it is true without a doubt. Each course in the tasting menu was a stunning example of freshness, taste and originality. One of my most memorable moments was at the beginning when the bartender told me that "we would like to cook for you". Meaning don't worry about a menu just tell me your allergies and let us create for you what we have come up with today. An amazing experience followed. I sat at the bar and can highly recommend sitting here especially if you are alone. Its great fun to people watch and the bartenders are the best in the city.

My husband and I ate at Blue Hill last week for our anniversary. While we were excited for the meal we were not sure what to expect with farm to table. We typically love hearty pasta dishes or fresh sushi, but this was a step above the rest. The tomatoes were so sweet and delicious that we went to the farmer's market the following day! The small bites they brought out before were outstanding. The tuna taco had so many complex flavors. The vodka and black currant cocktail was delicious! Thank you for an outstanding experience Blue Hill!

Amazing experience from beginning to the end. First time here but will not be the last. Great Food concept service and ambience. Deserve 5 full stars!

We did the tasting menu and every course was unique and delicious. A thoughtful mix of produce and protein. Lives up to the reputation!

Our group of four was celebrating my sister and brother-in-law's 50th wedding anniversary with a weekend in New York. We made our reservation at Blue Hill a month in advance (a must) after reading about it. We were definitely not disappointed. The restaurant is in a brownstone about half a block from Washington Square Park in the village. The wait staff are fabulous...helpful, friendly, always willing to stop by and tell us more about the food. The food is all farm to table, and the chef is imaginative. The tasting menu was really outstanding. We particularly enjoyed the kohlrabi tacos, the bolero carrot steak and the monkfish. The vegan tartar was surprisingly super! Wine selection was great. The price of the tasting menu ($105) is quite reasonable for fine dining in NYC. Truly a gem of a restaurant in the village.

I had been to this restaurant before Covid and wanted to go back since I had liked it a lot. They have changed the format. It is now Family meal at Blue Hill and they do not offer menus. I remember the last time they had the Farmer's feast menu which was excellent, lots of flavorful vegetable entrees. Now basically everyone eats the same menu, and as the waiter said it is whatever the farm has fresh. It sounded great and I got excited. Our first plate was spinach and chips followed by deep fried zucchini flower. The zucchini flower was so crispy, unbelievably delicious. The waiter said that they used rice flour to make it gluten free and thats why it was so crispy. The next 2 entrees were crudo, and ceviche type seafood. I eat seafood but not raw at all! I do not eat sashimi, ceviche etc... In general I avoid sushi restaurants. How does the fish and the scallop fall under the category of fresh from the farm? Let's say I was not happy at all. The rest of my group ate the raw seafood and then we had a meat entree which was very tender and delicious. Their wine list was interesting and different. I had a wine by the glass, it was ok, had a fizz to it. The dessert was ok as well. Everyone in our group missed the Old Blue Farm Hill. Apart from the fried Zucchini flour, I do not see a reason to go back.

A friend had recommended this place for years so I decided to go to lunch for $85. I looked up the reviews so I had a realistic idea of what to expect. It’s a very relaxing clean place. The food is clean and fresh. The service is attentive and better than average. You’re paying for the fresh food in a comfortable place. Don’t expect inventive or unusual, but the produce quality is very good. This place isnt for everyone. Some might find the food too simple and overpriced. I was very full and felt vibrant when I left. Good for families. My courses Appetizer A plate of beautiful fresh spinach lettuce with a citrus dressing. Two dips , one with hazelnuts and parsnips, another with garlic both tasty A homemade focaccia Fluke and scallions Main Chicken in a nice sauce with a potato and cooked greens A bowl of greens including fennel, sorrel and other stuff in a citrus dressing A wheat roll Fresh butter A corn and bean dish (The one thing I didn’t like) Dessert Wild rice pudding with vanilla ice cream in a paper cup A glass of chilled French Syrah

It’s all about the food and whine and everything goes into that and works superbly well. The sommelier Marie is out of this world fantastic with discrete yet relevant advice! We had a wonderful dinner experience with both the farmers feast as well as the menu. The quiet no phone setting was also adding to the experience which unfortunately means no photos of the wonderful food. But I see plenty of photos on the site so I am sure you get the idea. Special thanks to Marie the sommelier, your tips have been marvellous all along the way!

Excellent meal, not cheap but well worth it. Since the menu changes so often I won't detail our meal. We went with the Farmer's menu, which they happily modified for one member who doesn't eat red meat and another who doesn't eat bell peppers. One of our favorite farm-to-table meals (and we've had many). Lots of food but we didn't leave feeling uncomfortably stuffed. Great wine by the glass selection (and the cocktails list looked interesting but we all stayed with wine). Service was excellent as well.

My husband and I came to New York from Toronto for a few days to celebrate my 40th birthday. Blue Hill was my birthday dinner. And it did not disappoint. It was one of the best meals that I have had in a very long time. The service was great, and not to in your face. Cocktails were unique and tasty. The wine list was great. The food was delicious and flavorful. I would have to say my only issue would be that one of my courses came out on a chipped plate. I have no words how great the bread was. I would come back to NYC just to eat here.

Maybe it started when the hostess escorted us to the "Garden Room" aka Siberia. But, okay, after we asked to be seated in the main room, we were, although not at our desired corner table. We were told those tables were specially requested, but we could be placed in their computer system for the coveted corner table when we return one day. Last time we were here we had a choice of entrees and appetizers. Since then they instituted only tasting menus. We ordered the smaller of the two tasting menus which consisted of three courses and a dessert. All okay. Small amuses came including a miniature vegetable taste, an small taste of artichoke, the sweet potato course, some great bread and butter and Jerusalem artichokes. All very good. (see photos) Then after a wait - the main course -which was for me, the lamb. Well, actually not LAMB per sey. It consisted of two tiny pieces of what looked like lamb but were actually grisly lamb fat 2x4 squares with a tablespoon of tiny carrot pieces. (see photo) Needless to say, very disappointing. After that the meal continued with a palette clearer that came just after coffee was served. Not sure why they did not wait on the coffee until after the palette clearer.... then a delicious dab of dessert that was, for me, the best part of the meal. A "glass" of wine was the lowest pour I have ever seen in all of my years dining out. Ultimately, our re-visit to Blue Hill, was a disappointment. As we live just two blocks away, I am sad to say that this over-rated restaurant will not be a return for us. To say that I expected more from a restaurant with such a stellar reputation is an understatement, I think some one was asleep or absent from the kitchen that night. There are too many excellent, reliable and consistent restaurants in the city and even just in the Village that we will not miss this place.

I was told that Blue Hill would be an excellent place to have an exquisite meal, and the person that told me that was definitely correct, because I really enjoyed my dining experience at this restaurant. Right away when I entered the restaurant with my family, I felt that the staff was so kind and attentive, and really made us feel at home, like they wanted to take care of us and really cared about us having a good experience at their restaurant. I loved how polite our waiter was, he really helped us make a food choice that would be in line with our personal tastes as we were unsure of what to order, but he walked through some items that he thought we might like and helped us pick one. I ended up having the beef and broccoli, and my goodness it was a delicious dish that left me full and completely satisfied. I would highly recommend this place to anyone.

Watched it, visited it, loved it. Had a 32nd anniversary meal with The Lovely here Nov 29th 2018 and it met the hype for us. Very very friendly. I'd strongly recommend the tasting menu and let them surprise you. Adventurous food but still sublime. Can't add much to all the 5 star reviews below except this wonderful picture. But don't worry, it was an 'amuse bouche' not a starter. And probably the best carrot I've ever tasted.

Are you kidding us? Really? All of you? The chef, the reviewers, the smug, complacent, clueless diners? It's bland nothingness on a bed of cold hype. Save your money, enjoy your evening somewhere else, Eat something that's actually delicious and makes you want more. Or come here for cold, dry bits of animal accompanied by cold, dry bits of artisinal vegatables. Your choice. Delicious food is out there waiting for you, but it sure as h*** is not waiting here. Try Jean George at Columbus (or anywhere), Arcane in Hong Kong, Jason Atherton, Mourad in San Francisco (get JP to make you a cocktail), but please don't waste your time or your money here. Maybe the origianl farm is good, but their West Village spot is a huge, expolitative joke. Peter

I went alone to Blue Hill, during a business trip to the City. amouse bouche was lovely, both to see and taste. I chose from the daily menu and ended up picking all vegetarian options. I liked the salad, loved the 100% wheat breads with butter and also the yogurt strawberry based dessert. However `this morning's farm egg` was a disappointment. The green puree had an overwhelming tangy taste which supressed everything else . The carrot gnocci was good, not great, and its sauces tasted similar to the farm egg's. Maybe it was my choice of mains which combined to a limited flavor profile, but what should have been the star dishes of the evening were not so impressive. Service was quite pleasant, and I tended to notice it more given I was a dining alone! Overall, its a good place to dine, but I find it hard to 'strongly' recommend given the price point.

We came to Blue Hill for our anniversary. It was such a treat to enjoy the tasting menu and get a taste of whats to come when we visit Blue Hill at Stone Barn. Will definitely be back as the menu is constantly updating!

We booked our table several weeks ago, and I am so pleased we did. We arrived at 6:30 and the place was very busy as we arrived. We had the farmer’s feast with wine pairings. So many unique tastes, creatively presented. We ate the six courses with several amuse bouche over a 3 hour period. The restaurant was busy throughout this period. Definitely a place you need to book ahead of time. All the staff were talented and friendly. This is a must visit restaurant in NY.

This is to be a very trendy Farm to table restaurant in New York City. Service was excellent! Food was “unique” but good. Wine pairings were not very good. Tried too many non traditional grapes varietals.

I couldn't have been happier with my birthday dinner. I love tasting menus and this one was varied and delicious. The service is very good and I liked that there was someone whose job it was to talk about how the food was grown. My only complaint is that my husband is a vegetarian and he wanted protein in his dinner and was looked at rather blankly by the waiter. While we were warned, both desserts had gelatin. While it is rather pricey, the meal was a whole evening's entertainment and so well worth it.

I love to cook. Not terribly fancy; but, robust, flavorful and generally healthy foods. It’s likely because I started cooking around 5. I learned how to make chocolate soufflé to start - the secret is to make sure the egg whites are whipped until they have peaks, kinda like a rough sea. Skipping all the way to the present day, I happened on a series about restaurants and saw this episode about Dan Barber & Blue Hill. His story resonated so much that I made a reservation and went to NYC to experience “Family Meal”. The cooked & raw fighter spinach was flavorful and intense. The scallops and local fluke fresh and dynamic. I chose the wine pairing and was delighted by the excellent bar tender, especially his knowledge and passion for the restaurant. Black bass was balanced. Then the parade of preserved vegetables. So very unique. The presentation was wonderful. When the flatbread arrived with butter, pesto, onion jam and ricotta, it was delightful. Vibrant. Getting to the grass fed beef was like reaching the summit. The side carrots fresh with ginger and turmeric. Forgot. On my plane up to NYC was a lovely elderly couple. As we deplaned, I asked where they were eating? They replied “Blue Hill”!? I saw them arrive. The experience is so worth it. The food impresses. The staff and ambience are perfect. Cannot recommend Blue Hill enough - 6 stars! The lovely coupled told me the same.

I truly enjoyed this evening, from start to finish. The room is lovely. Comfortable, simple and elegant. Service is helpful and well orchestrated. They are always around, but not hovering. The food was fun, inspired and flavorful. Yes, a thin carrot is an unusual appetizer, but it's one of about 5 that come out, one after another. The liver wrapped in crisp chocolate was luxurious, spicy and surprising. We ordered from both sides of the menu. Everything was great. Can't wait to return in the summer and fall, since I'd imagine in season vegetables and fruits would pack an even bigger punch. Oh, and the bread! Can't get enough. Yum!!! Will be back for sure.

I’ve been coming here for years, usually to celebrate or decompress when I’m in the city. It is the best, bar none. In every. Single. Way. The staff are the overwhelming, absolute, finest in the whole of the city. They create the nicest culture, and the most personal experience. The food - out of control. Every dish so Perfectly tailored. So detailed. Visually and taste wise, nothing feels lighter, cleaner, or better. I love this place! They make me feel so special every time I come in. The farmers feast, technically five courses, feels more like 10! And is always the best meal I have in the city. This place is a treasure. This time Oliver made my dining especially great. He is so cool and friendly. And Danielle welcomed me in, what felt like, open arms. Best food, best staff, best dining experience. Best place for clean, upscale, farm to table dining.

This resto was a true delight for me! Lovely private garden room a back (where we were seated) with an incredible "Farmers Feast" menu and delectable wine pairings throughout - all exceptional! Very attentive staff all around! Thank you Blue Hill! ~Constance

a special place to go on a special day, the vegetarian menu was extremely good, a real farm to table experience we will always cherish. both the vegetarian menus were superb. the only thing we didnt enjoy was the carrot steak, was a bit bland for us and the carrot bit mushy we were looking forward to this experience for a while and are happy it happened.

I spent a lot of time on where we were going to eat on a short visit to NYC in July. I found the perfect place. I should say on our return because we had eaten here many years ago and as I remember that meal was the best of my life and it's only replaced by the meal this time. Everything was perfect and I hesitate to use that term but I'm not sure what else to say. The service was perfect as well. We eat out often and in many different areas of the country but this was very special as it was so many years ago. I highly recommend this restaurant and plan to get back here in the near future. In a city where there are so many good restaurants, this is a stand out. How do you do that after nineteen years? Eat here and you will find out.

Great little restaurant with exceptional food! We had the wine pairing, unfortunately the timing was a bit too fast, so it wasn't really a cozy evening, after 1.5 hours we were out again. We are used to a bit more in a restaurant like this. But we can still recommend trying it out. The service was otherwise very nice and helpful

“Farmers” cuisine: Primarily vegetables, good, though not particularly original. Slightly too large portions, which may be good, provided that in many other kitchens you may feel it is too little. It all seems a little rushed. For New York relatively generous tables and surprisingly quiet.

I have been trying to secure a place at this restaurant for very long time and finally I was able to get two seats by the bar. Of course my expectations were very high as this is one of the most acclaimed restaurants of New York. It is a rather small restaurant famous for from farm to table concept. The decor is very old and out of fashion. The ambiance is moody because of awfull interior lighting. After a while, your eyes start to see things blurry not because of alcohol but wrong lighting. However, all this first negative impression could be eliminated with great food with friendly service but no luck tonight. We chose one of two pre-course menus. Unfortunately, I can not find to say one good word for any of the dishes we had. They were incredibly salty and nothing was really special or noteworthy. Sorry😌 Service was definetely less than mediocre and probably the worst in a long time. One more thing. All the fuss about not finding a seat at this restaurant is a big flop as there were 6 empty two-seat tables and we asked to be seated at one of them with a no answer. At the end, they informed us that they had many last-minute cancellations. I would recommend to avoid this restaurant👎

Last week I finished reading Michelle Obama’s new book and she made prominent mention that early in her husband’s administration they went for a night out at Blue Hill. I called from my home in Arizona a few days ago and spoke with the lovely hostess, Anna. She said they were pretty booked up, but to call her when I arrived in New York. Tonight she told me to come at 7:30 for a seat at the bar. I have to say that this was one of the most gracious restaurant staffs that I have ever encountered, such as Anna, one of the managers, Cole, and the bartenders, Joe and Oliver. We ended up in some extended conversations! Now I was quite aware that this is a high end type of place, so I was not expecting bargain prices. OK, fine. I decided to have the six course tasting menu, and had an aperitif before dinner and a glass of Merlot. Yes, the portions are small, but when all was said and done, I had had enough to eat. The imaginative treatment of fish, meats ( lamb in this case ) and vegetable were a treat for the palette. It is a fairly small, low ceiling Ed restaurant and it was certainly almost full, but the noise level wasn’t bad, unlike another Manhattan restaurant that I was in a few days ago. The decor is understated. I departed a happy camper.
A nice experience
My wife and I planned a travel to NYC for July, I booked this restaurant one month ahead for the dinner of our wedding anniversary. The staff reserved for us a nice corner table in the garden room, that I preferred to the noisy and cold main room ( I think there is a misuse of air conditioning in US, too cold everywhere, but it is an other topic). I chose this restaurant after seeing Chef’s table episode on Netflix, I was attracted by the chef philosophy to go back to the real original taste of the food. Watch it, it will inspire you. The restaurants met my expectations, any food had an incredible taste. The food is cooked simply manner, that is the best to highlight the taste! I didn’t like too much the “bolognese lasagna carrot”, that was a carrot cooked (or just covered, I don’t know) with a tomato sauce usually used for bolognese lasagna. As Italian, I didn’t like this idea ! The sauce taste covered the carrot and anyway any usage of bolognese sauce outside of tagliatelle or lasagne should be forbidden by law! The final price of the dinner was about expensive, we had two 95$ dinner menus, two glass of champagne and three of wines. You can guess how much was the final check. It was the most expensive dinner we had during our vacation, but it was the best value for money anyway. It is a place to go, if you are concerned about the check, count the wine glasses! It deserves a visit!
