I like this place for lunch because it's usually not super crowded and the food comes quickly (which is great when you really need that midday pick me up). The sushi selection is vast (with vegetarian and vegan options, too) and it's actually great to come with a friend because the platters are a good size for sharing, meaning that you spend like $18-$20 each if you split it.

One of the best sushi I've ever tried in my life. It's real Japanese sushi, nothing strange. The place is small and beautiful. The attention is excellent. The prices are high but the food is worth it, the fish is very fresh. Sushi with flavor and texture like in Japan. I would return 100 times

The food is pricey and the service is not quick, so don't go if you are pressed for time. But it will be the best meal you have ever had, and the staff is friendly. The room is too dark to read the menu, so you will need that phone flashlight. Worth the spurge!

We booked for a table and they arranged us in two tables for their mistake, very rude and unavailable when ordering. Frozen shrimp and cold tempera.

Did a surprise early dinner to my wife and I was simply astonished! Great aesthetics, loved the comfort, the polite attitude of everyone there and all the dishes we had were simply top notch! Really a must visit restaurant at NY city!

A safe choice is you’re looking for some good quality sushi. It’s not my absolute favorite in the city but it’s certainly very good.

Came here four years ago and it was outstanding. Remains outstanding. In Soho and perfect for lunch on a big shopping day. Sashimi was fresh, miso delicious, rolls were excellent. Not the cheapest sushi but worth the price and very authentic.

My husband and I were looking for a restaurant that served sushi and were pleased to see Blue Ribbon Sushi. I ordered the day's special, salmon and yellow fin tuna sushi, but it wasn't what I thought it would be. It was pieces of the fish rolled around white rice in rolls about 4 inches long. The waiter explained to me the difference between sushi and maki. I thought sushi was the 1 inch cylinder shaped disks that usually come in a 6 to 9 pack. I was wrong that is called "maki" what I ordered was sushi as I described. SO there I learned something. :)

I love the beef negamaki with scallions and mushrooms. The sashimi deluxe is another favorite. There is a good sake selection too. Service is friendly and professional. Top shelf food and service.

Been here a few times now and the standard of food is always great. A little bit pricey but always a good atmosphere especially late at night.

When I first moved to NYC, Blue Ribbon was the first sushi restaurant I granted myself. The location, the atmosphere, the service, the food, nothing has changed over the last 10 years I become a customer. I normally go for the Mixed Sushi/Sashimi set, giving me a huge variety of tastes. In addition I order a green tea and Miso soup, when hungry a Spicy Tuna Roll. The price/value is good. Blue Ribbon is always in my foodie heart :)

This spot is a joke, you can only dine in if you sit in a certain part of the restaurant. I guess you need to read the sign. The rolls were small, amature manager too stupid make things better. The restaurant was empty and I was asked to make my way out because I made my order at the cashier. Lol. Some guy dressed liked a bum told me to read the sign. Sushi was ok, not great. What I would expect from a glorified food court. Employee smelt like BO.

Tried this restaurant since it was near my hotel. Definitely one of the best sushi restaurant that I've been. Lobster Sushi is really good. Service was very fast and the staff is very nice. I will definite come back here whenever I'm back to New York.

Expensive but great quality of fish, menu prices were 6$ per slice of sashimi so that adds up quickly! Service was friendly and it was a nice quick meal.

Ok, let's be clear from the outset. I am a frequent traveller to Japan and by Japanese standards this restaurant would be average compared to some of the fabulous quality you can find in Japan. But we're not in Japan, we're in New York. And so as far as "westernised" Japansese restaurants go, this one is actually very good indeed. The staff are friendly and attentive without being overbearing. The quality of the sushi (by Western standards) is excellent, fresh and well presented. The quality of the cooked fish is equally good, and most importantly the cooking itself is spot-on. My only negative comment would be on the rice dish. We sampled the Ox-tail rice. Whilst it tasted delicious, the execution is in need of a little refinement. Cut down a little on the oil used, and perhaps rethink the rice used in the dish, I'm not sure the grain was the best. Whichever way, if I found myself in New York again and wanted a Japanese moment,I wouldn't hesitate to come back.

If you're interested in exquisite sashimi and sushi this is the place for you. Portions are small, make no mistake, but this is about quality not quantity. Prices are steep but you get what you pay for.

Nice sushi and really friendly staff... some of our pieces looked a bit quickly made but can recommend the place. A bit pricy even for NY...

Dinner was amazing! I can only have gf pasta, even that was delicious! I would recommend rigatoni with the spicy vodka sauce, and the meatballs.

Rated as one of the Top Sushi Places in NYC but did not meet my expectations by far! Way over rated and expensive! Taste was ordinary and service was regular at most! Portions are small! This was for two people and we left as hungry as we walked in!

This very nice sushi joint is kind of hidden in the basement, and as there was a car parked in front of it we almost missed it. But what a great place this was. We were so hungry that we just ordered a Sushi/Sashimi platter. It was great, but should have asked for the chefs (working right in front of us) to make whatever they wanted to. Because everything looked so extremely good. Will go back next time in NY. Great ambience as well, and packed with people. Still we only had to wait for 15 minutes. Highly recommended.

We went for family dinner, food was amazing and is perfect portion. It is reasonable price where you get a very fresh fish. Great quality sushi! It's as good as it can get here in the states. Staff were friendly and customer service was great! It reminds me of being in Japan. We had Blue Ribbon Special platter. Land the eel is to die for!

This restaurant has the best miso cod - outstanding and out of this world. My wife and I had three portions of just the miso cod. The rest of the menu is also excellent, the sushi is fresh and delicious and the fried rice was also excellent. They have another restaurant on 57th and 8th which is also excellent. Will be back.

I dined at BLUE RIBBON SUSHI BAR & GRILL twice in a week! It’s another business that now has multiple locations since the time I lived in New York City. The fish is still as fresh as ever!

Ok so it is a little unusual to order fried chicken from a sushi restaurant, but trust me on this one. You will not find better fried chicken in Miami and perhaps not anywhere. I don't want to spoil the surprise by telling you too much but it is simply incredible here. The dish is always perfect and the special sauce will absolutely knock your socks off. So go for it and order the chicken and some rolls or nigiris to complete your meal.

I go often with my colleagues after work to have a good sushi. The price are very high but of course the quality is the top! A must is the green tea creme brûlé!

A great combination of good sushi, hip location and ambient! I always like to order the Uma casa for full variety of tastes.

My fiancé and I visited recently and thoroughly enjoyed our experience at Blue Ribbon Sushi! The waiter was very knowledgeable about the sake, which we tried and loved. Incredible sushi in a great atmosphere.

Found Blue Ribbon via Trip Advisor - great find! Rolls and sashimi delicious and service just right. Next time, want to order the popcorn shrimp that someone on the next table ordered just as we were leaving...

The sushi was absolutely amazing. Pro tip...you cannot make reservations over the phone so you have to walk in. It is totally worth the wait. I recommend that you plan for drinks near by once you put your name on the list.

Excellent , quick courteous and attentive service. Nice atmosphere. Clean and modern while still authentic to its cuisine. Reasonably priced.

Best sushi I’ve had in my life. You can taste the ocean it’s so fresh. Good location in Soho. Beautiful presentation of food. I sat at the bar and witnessed such concentration from the chefs as they laid out the food art.

I lobe sushi there. I would give them six stars if I could. It's definitely outstanding sushi quality. You can't describe it but you have to try!

This is the best Sushi place we have ever visited. The quality is not from this world - sooooooo good. It is pricey but awesome !! We also loft the neighborhoody atmosphere. We will be back!

Definitely on the pricey side, but never disappoints! Some of the best sushi I've eaten in my life. Highly recommended if you're looking for good sushi.

Top notch. Great food and amazing experience on the counter, enjoying chef's abilities. Service is very warm and friendly. Crispy rice is a unique experience.

This place serves very good rolls in downtown NYC. My favorite were the spicy scallops and king crab maki. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for a party of 4.

Super good sushi, very fresh and high-end, made to order. Reasonable price for high-end sushi in a nice setting Beautiful address Ok also went to Miami and also good

Very good sushi. Great atmosphere. The sushi chef is great- really makes quality sushi. Love coming here when I am in the city

Went for a sushi lunch, the service was quick and efficient, the sushi was good, even if not stellar and I was pleasantly surprised by one of their specials - tuna collar.

I have had better. The service isn’t great as well. I thought I try it out to see what the hype was about but it didn’t live up to expectations

I was looking to try a new sushi place, and this location was highly rated on Google, so I decided to check them out after work. First impressions were positive. As I arrived around 5:30 it was probably the start of dinner, so I didn't need to wait to be seated. I was excited to see Orion on the drink menu, as I haven't seen it anywhere outside of the Kansai region of Japan (but, to be fair, I haven't been looking too hard). I ordered the sushi deluxe as my entree and was impressed by the relative diversity of fish on the platter compared to what I get in Queens. The highlights for me were the spicy tuna roll and the mackerel. Still feeling a bit hungry after that I ordered the Green Tea creme brulee. Now, to be honest, I haven't had creme brulee before, as for my deserts I tend to default to chocolate cake, so I will be comparing the quality of it not to other creme brulee, but to other green tea treats that I have had in the past. Judging it by that criteria it stands at the top. I loved the flavor of the cream. So why did I give it three stars? To me there were two main factors. First, I feel that $8 for a bottle of beer is a bit steep. The other reason is that, while not bad, the sushi itself didn't stand out to me as extraordinary. They got the temperature of the sushi perfect, but there were no particular flavors that stood out to me on the plate, aside of course for the spicy tuna roll.

In my hometown of Huntsville, Alabama it is pretty much a sushi desert, so I am always happy to find great sushi when I travel. Because of their ratings and proximity to me on a recent trip to NYC I decided to check out Blue Ribbon Sushi in Soho, which was a little hard to find, with virtually no signage. Once inside, the place was surprisingly large with lots of narrow nooks and crannies. Because we were early in the evening (about 1800), we were able to get a seat at the sushi bar, which is always nice. The presentation and quality of fish at Blue Ribbon were absolutely top notch, as you would expect from a high quality sushi bar. I tried a wide variey of sushi and sashimi, ranging from unagi to hamachi; from hokigai to saba...it was all excellent. When you go into a place and ask for them to prepare japanese hotatagai (scallops) "gunkan" style and you get a blank look, that is not a good sign, but Blue Ribbon knew exactly what I wanted and it was perfect, with just a slight spicy kick as I requested. They even had ice cold Orion beer, which is great with sushi. Blue Ribbon is not cheap, and the portions are not as large as some of my favorite places in Phoenix and Los Angeles, but hardly among the costlier sushi places in New York or anywhere else for that matter. If you walk in around 1900 with no reservation on a weekend, you are going to have a long wait, but I would expect that for a great sushi bar. Whenever I am in NYC, this place will be on the top of my list to try again.

My husband and I were out to find a quick "small" bite to eat while out walking as tourists, and after searching online I found this option when a friend's original recommendation for sushi didn't open until 5pm that day, which was a Sunday. We stopped in around lunchtime and were lucky to find an open table. The menu was impressive, and had we been in for a bigger meal we could have explored endlessly. We settled on 2 rolls and they were both fabulous, as we anticipated. I'd love to return for another meal where I was looking to order more!

We were staying at Hudson Hotel and walked into the restaurant as it was very close. The food was excellent and the restaurant has an extensive menu.

Good food, I'm always satisfied. That's what I'm looking for for a nice evening meal with friends & my hysband.

You could have decent sushi here. The beauty of this place is they open late so after theater you could stop by then fill your empty stomach up. The only one that I did not like....the miso soup taste was was too weak. Need to use more strong dashi broth and good miso.

It is a good sushi and sashimi restaurant, with good options. The staff are friendly and the sushi was good. There are plenty options of fish

They don't take reservations so not much use to anyone not based nearby. Shame would have liked to try the food.

This place always delivers some of the freshest and tastiest food alongside a serious sake menu. Best uni in the city!

It’s difficult to find a place today where the food is good and the price as well. This place is a small gem in soho that only people who know it go and it’s very cozy and perfect for someone looking for a Japanese cousins, sushi and sushi rolls.

Excellent sushi, cozy lighting, good service. We ordered the boxed unagi-avocado roll and an inside-out blue crab roll, both were served promptly and delicious. Highly recommended.

Great family dinner on Sunday 14th April. We were given a table in the main room. Space is relatively narrow and restaurant was really full (not a negative per se, just stating). We enjoyed a selection of great sushis, with an emphasis of maki rolls. All superbly prepared and fresh. Negi Toro and tatakis (Toro and Hamachi) were a must. In hindsight, I wish we had ventured in the more exotic propositions in the menu. Wine was fairly priced ($60 for a nice PouillyFumé Vieilles vignes; I have seen more expensive fare elsewhere for similar wines elsewhere). Only caveat was the waiting time, which I presume was due to the restaurant being full. Great lively atmosphere and nice counter where you can see chefs preparing platters. Highly recommended.

Very good , fresh fish, fresh oysters and very good service.Tempura done perfect...kudos on the miso soup!!

Very high quality fresh sushi in an authentic environment for a good price. The reverse California roll with blue crab is particularly good, as per the Toro and the Unagi. Good selection of Sake and beers also.

Really delicious and fresh sushi! I stopped in for a late lunch and it wasn’t busy with very quick service. I got a salmon and salmon roe roll and a spicy scallop roll and both were great! They had interesting rolls and I wanted to try more but will have to be another visit.

One of the best sushi I've had. Great Service, great mochi ice cream. In short, perfect.Obviously it is expensive like any good restaurant.

A native japanise menu. I have appreciated the nigiri freshness and a tasty sushy selections. Following their suggestions you could surely taste the daily fresh fish they provide for their plates. The wood japanese style of the restaurant creates the right atmosphere for a pleasant dinner.

Perfect under every condition! Amazing food, intimate atmosphere, nice music and lighting. All the sushi rolls are very nice but don’t forget to try main courses! Beef and chicken are delicious as well!

One of the best sushi we have ever eaten, the taste was wonderful, very simple and tasty, everything we ordered was sashimi and sushi, in addition to the salads.

Food was amazing as expected (we loved Blue Ribbon Miami which is why we came here) the whole atmosphere was rush rush get in get out, the waitress was short with us and left us to navigate the menu with no advice or welcome... we left kind of disappointed, I say kind of because we left with a bag of food to finish at our hotel because the atmosphere was so poor but the food was so good. At least we will always have Miami to remember! Being our first time to New York we just assumed this was another New York attitude/experience... never mind. I’d recommend you try another sushi place!

Too quality sushi; excellent service; Great location on Sullivan Street. The sushi and sashimi platter was just excellent. Good wine list to complement the food. I would recommend unreservedly.

Nice little basement place. But....... portions small, prices high, service rushed. That pretty much sums it up. I was ready to slap the waitress if she fiddled with our sake bottle ONE MORE TIME! She literally passed by and checked the level of contents EVERY 45 SECONDS! And she was training, which makes it worse in my mind because a more experienced employee was hovering over her the whole time. And the freshness of the fish was average at best. If you are willing to drop some coin on sushi, you may as well go to the big name places like NOBU and get better service and fresher product.

This quaint little restaurant apparently has been around for 25 years. I was attending a venue in the area and stumbled on it by mere chance. The place is narrow but long, with every piece of decor on point. Not an inexpensive place, we are in NYC after all. Yet the sushi did NOT disappoint The service was quick, the servers pleasant and the food tasty. I will definitely visit again.

Went as a group of 6 for lunch and it's a cozy spot right by our hotel. Great selection of sushi, and a high-end take on your run of the mill sushi rolls. Try the black edamame beans if available, not something i've seen regularly. all the fish were fresh and tasty, but also pricey. good spot all in all if you are looking for quality sushi.

Blue Ribbon is very good. The service is excellent, the ambiance and locale are good, and the food is also good. The brussels sprouts special appetizer was excellent, and the shrimp shumai are also great. We got one of the large sushi platters, which was very good, but short of excellent. Several of the pieces of fish were subpar, including some that were about half brown parts. This was disappointing but overall it is a great restaurant.

Had sushi here two days in a row. Quick service, fantastic sushi, great presentation, and fun to sit at the bar. Wonder if it’s owned by the same people who opened Blue Ribbon in Miami. Also a great place to eat.

I love Japanese food and try new restaurants wherever i go. Blue ribbon was definitely perfect and will be a place to come back every time I am in NY. From smoothness to sake, to delicious black cod, calamari, wagyu beef and assortments of sushi, we literally had a festive dinner. must go!

Service was great and atmosphere good but would not call the sushi top tier, more just like good. Probably would try other places instead in SoHo first.

When I lived here, this was a favorite and years later it’s just as good. Great service, and incredibly fresh sushi. If you’re looking for great sushi in the city, this is one of the best.

This is now one of the top Sushi places I’ve ever eaten. The flavour of the fish is second to none, it was absolute heaven. And the ratio of rice to fish is perfect, they’re not trying to fill you up on a giant wedge of rice but instead it’s a small compliment to the top quality fish so you can appreciate the flavour. It’s not the cheapest, but you get what you pay for. The staff are wonderful always topping up water, making sure you’re okay. Treat yourself to this place if you like your sushi.

Super leckeres Asia Restaurant. Quality of food just as great. Priced in the top league. Service is very good. Volume in the restaurant is extremely loud.

Good food. Very expensive. Not the best I have ever had for twice the price. But.. it is in New York. We came without a reservation and they took us to a table outside that was very nice and heated. Waitress was very nice and was knowledgeable about the menu.

You can walk past this restaurant because there is no visible name outside but if you do venture in you can be assured of excellent sushi and professional service. We went back for lunch during a recent visit to New York and weren’t disappointed at all. Between the three of us we had some combination of sushi, sashimi, teriyaki and tempura and everything was very tasty and nicely presented. Waitress was attentive without being overbearing. $150 for three (w/o alcohol) which is not cheap but then this was New York.

We arrived and in 5 minutes had our table for 4. Great service, the food arrived fast enough, and the sushi, nigiris, salad and fish were spectacular.

If you want good sushi this is the place, just have to be patient, usually there is waiting list during rush hour

Very nice place have been with my girlfriend and the sushi was amazing I definitely recommend this place.

Nice hidden, small place. Seems Japanese with all the wood and dark atmosphere. Menu is super long so we tried the blue ribbon sushi and sashimi platter. Everything was very good and fresh, but we did have to order more rolls after finishing the platter. Service is OK nothing special. We went with a baby and wouldn't call it a baby friendly restaurant but we managed very well.

Was visiting NYC from the UK and a friend recommended this place. The food was out of this world, the service was amazing, and the entire experience was so genuine. Best sushi I’ve ever had easily.

Great place for groups, business or fun, or sit at the sushi bar for a solo meal. Food is excellent as is the service. Great selection and super fresh.

Great spot for sushi! I went here for a corporate event. It was pretty good. Not as good as Osaka in Brickell and on par w/ Zama and other standard fancy sushi. The corporate event was a seated dinner by the pool. A pretty good setup but they didn't have a bar tender available so the cocktail hour was without cocktails.

The concierge at the London hotel got us in here. Great dinner to talk business over. Staff will happily keep the food coming. Loved the drinks. Can't wait to come back!

The minute one enters the restaurant all the personal screams “welcome” in Japanese. That’s a very welcoming idea! Then the place proceeded to impress me even more with an excellent quality sushi! The waiter said that they usually receive supply from Japan and Scotland. Highly recommend this place. And by the way, I came here on a weekday at 11:30am right when they opened and the place filled up quickly by 12:15pm lunch.

The food and sake are both great, and the slightly underground setting along with the 'no reservations' policy create a bit more of an egalitarian, food-first vibe that fits well with the menu's focus on fish over complicated rolls you find at some other sushi spots.

We came here in the evening, arriving slightly late for our 9:00 pm booking. We were greeted and led to a table and introduced to the menu by a very attentive and well mannered waiter who was able to explain it to us and show us what could be paired with what (e.g. shiitake mushrooms with avocado in a sushi roll). The food came quickly with beautiful presentation, and it’s fads lived up to how good they looked. The Miso Soup also was amazing, served with the Miso paste on the side, so that you can mix it in and control how strong it is (perfect for control freaks!). The desserts were also very good. The mochas were tasty and the creme brûlée was amazing, especially with its slight green tea taste. Overall, the food was amazing and the service attentive and would definitely reccomended although the atmosphere is a little strange with some bizarre music choices.

Very easy to recognize the best NY restaurants: they survive every financial crisis, every covid, every stupid landlord, every bad Zagat review: they are bullet proof. We love Blue Ribbon Sushi so much that 13 years ago, while pregnant with my daughter, my wife was eating there weekly. She would not have eaten suhsis anywhere else in NYC. Now that we live far from New York, I always pay them a visit when I ma traveling, three times during the last visit. Their sushis, rolls and shashimi have been perfect with the same top quality and freshness for more than 15 years as far as I am concerned

Great location, great and friendly staff, cozy atmosphere BUT......tiny portions, very expensive. The two of us spent $160 and left hungry. Went out for pizza afterwards.

When i visited NYC I had heard great things about this place but in actuality i was going to the place around the corner for dinner. It so happened that they were full so i was walked to Blue Ribbon without a reservation and they were so lovely and accommodating. They sat me at the sushi counter which i loved, i got to see how clean and fresh everything was. The staff was beyond lovely and friendly. I had the black edamame which has a smoky flavor. YUM. I also had the shrimp dumplings, and i had a spicy salmon roll (not on the menu but they were kind enough to switch the tuna with salmon) and i also asked for a salmon-avocado roll which was also not on the menu. Big salmon fan lol. Let me tell you something, im a sushi addict but i have never tasted japanese food this good. I don't know what i have been eating all these years, it certainly does not compare. I just keep dreaming of going back to eat more. This place is a must!

Great true sushi place, nothing fancy, I go there every time I visit NYC though. In the heart of SOHO, just the walk to arrive there I think is priceless.

Solid sushi quality. Sea urchin from the island of Hokkaido was slightly subpar, everything else was fresh and excellent. The place is packed for lunch with all the big shots and investment bankers of the world. A great sushi restaurant.

Amazing experience. I had dinner here on a Saturday night. It’s small and there was a 20 minute wait around 8pm but it’s worth it. Reasonably priced, extensive and unique selections, and most importantly Delicious!! The staff made recommendations and I they were all fresh and yummy. I decided to venture out of my usual choices and got the spelt roe and sea urchin and the white fish recommend by my server....all were amazing. Can’t wait to come back!

Absolutely amazing. Best sushi I have ever had. The chefs cheer whenever a new customer comes in. We had the blue ribbon chefs platter and they went out of their way to include things we love.

Nothing special, average service level. Pretty basic sushi quality, seriously overpriced for the quality offered.

Honestly a bit pricey but for the quality and great service and food it’s truly worth it kind of like the whole of New York. Just be careful of how much you order and don’t go there to fill up or you will spend a horrendous amount of money. It is extremely hard to find and you jus have to look down at every basement because that’s what it is a New York basement turned into one of the best sushi restaurants. It’s literally a hole in the wall. WARNING: if you are tall +6 ish ft duck when you enter and watch where your walking there is not that much space. Chefs are extremely experienced and waiters extremely fast and friendly.

We found this place searching Trip Advisor and it really justified its' excellent reviews. Service is great, the waiter explained the menu and answered all our questions. The fish was fresh, sushi was perfect. Wine list also excellent. I definetely recommend it.

One of the best sushi places in NYC. Cozy ambiance and excellent service. Will definitely return on my next visit.

Came in for lunch and service was great. Got seated early for our reservation and the sushi came out quickly. Cute place and they were busy...but not busy, if that makes sense. We ended up ordering a second round it was that good. Don't recall all the rolls we tried, but they were all good. Even saw a few plates pass by that looked scrumptious as well. Almost asked the server what the table next to us ordered. lol

I have eaten in so many delicious sushi restaurants in my life and this one was just incredibly disappointing. Staff were not very friendly, the portions were really small for the extortionate prices and the fish seemed not very fresh. Way overpriced, the 4 of us only had a salad and a portion of sushi and 1 bottle of water and it cost $215. Ridiculous! What a shame....

Blue Ribbon sells and makes sushi at good prices for sushi. The sushi (eel and smoked salmon) is great quality. I like sushi. #Sushi

We visited here for lunch one afternoon during our visit to New York. Food was amazing! It was more pricey for a sushi restaurant but definitely worth it.

We initially had reservations for an early 4 pm dinner, but found ourselves (a) in the neighborhood and (b) hungry a couple of hours earlier. No problem. We got a table in the small (maybe 40 seats) restaurant and got some very icy cold water and a Sapporo. For lunch we split the popcorn shrimp and a deluxe sashimi plate. Both were excellent. The tempura batter on the shrimp was light and crisp - just the way we like it. The sashimi was fresh and flavorful. Service was attentive. Yes, it was expensive, at $112 plus tip. Welcome to NYC in 2023.

We came here after a friend recommended it to us. You can't actually spot it from the street, giving it an extra special feeling to it. Service was fast and attentive, explaining the menu and suggesting some items. Sushi was fresh and tasty; had us ordering more. We left wanting to have more. Gotta try it

We had received an email from a New York based friend of ours who recommended that we try out Tomoe Sushi (which he considered to be the most underrated sushi in NYC). We walked over to Tomoe only to find it closed. Disappointed, we started walking around looking for a place to eat and we stumbled upon Blue Ribbon Sushi (and thank God for that!). Hands down, the best sushi I have ever had. The fish melt in your mouth. The staff are refreshingly very Japanese in their mannerisms (which adds authenticity). The sake was also just right. We ordered the following (all amazing): Wakame; Oshitashi; Maguro Tataki; Maki Combo 2; Temaki Honnin; Spicy Tuna Special; and Spicy Crab. You cannot go wrong with this fantastic restaurant.

This place has not disappointed the last two times I hav been here. We went to BRS at 84 Williams Str in downtown NYC. Excellent quality. Fish was as fresh as right from the water. Highly recommend it.

We had a great lunch here and it was also great for celebrity sightings. Everything was perfect including the service. No signage at the front- step down to enter.

I don't think I've ever had better sushi anywhere in the world (with exception of Tokyo). I was in a complete shoch how good this place is and what a big selection of fish they have. A must for any sushi lover.

Thank goodness for the superb outdoor seating. (a real tragedy if NYC follows through on this stupid idea of taking these down in the winter). The food and service are consistently excellent. The wine choices, though few, are serviceable. We alternate with the Columbus Circle B,ue Ribbon.

Very cool old school Sushi Bar- Resto. The restaurant is a basement , not very modern but it has nice charm. Great service and the fish was very fresh.

Excellent fresh sushi in a hip Soho galley type restaurant. Very fresh and flavorful! Pictured is a broiled bluefin tuna special. Delicious!

Food was great, service and staff very friendly. Menu has a lot of options I was in a hurry so they were very quick to accommodate me.

The waitress was amazing she spent a great deal of time finding me the perfect sake! She then shared and guided us to the perfect meal and I mean perfect. The sushi was amazing there wasn’t anything that wasn’t tasty and unique this is now my favorite sushi spot!

We were lucky to find this sushi bar - some of the best sushi we've ever had! Great atmosphere and seriously delicious ! Yum & thanks !

Small intimate Japanese restaurant. The place is basement level and you could easily walk by it. Feels hidden away. Delicious sushi. I ordered two rolls and a seaweed salad. Delicious! Sat at the sushi counter. Great service overall. I will definitely go back. Just a tip. The lobby is extremely small if you have to wait for a table.

Sooooo good! I ended up coming two nights in a row to try different things! Wonderful fresh sushi, great service and fun atmosphere. Will be back again

Stopped here while walking around lower Manhattan. Very cool looking place located in the food bar area on the second floor. Got two sets of rolls- one a California and the other a spicy tuna. They also had a two for one special going on the beer which fit me great!!

In my opinion one of the best japanese restaurant in NY. They do not take reservation. Service is good. Quality is excellent. Selection is wide.

I left New York a few years ago and Blue Ribbon was my usual sushi place as I lived next door. Year after year I come back, shops and restaurant are closing and changing one after the other, Blue Ribbon is one of the very few which is still running, still vivid, still serving the same top quality in their beautiful and authentic restaurant.

A group of 16 we arrived here after midnight. We climbed the stairs and were greeted on the landing and escorted to a long table. The place enjoyed a good atmosphere and was buzzing. After perusing the menu we made our choices. They were busy so the service was a little slow but the bottles of wine were delivered promptly so no problem. The dishes were delicious and well worth the wait. The only downside was the poufe seating, the type of thing you rest your feet on whilst sitting in an armchair. I will go back next time I’m in town.

My wife and I shared an Asahi Extra Dry, a House Salad, and a Sashimi Platter. All very good. Very good service, pleasant setting, low noise level. Very good in all.

Excellent selection. Creative rolls. Exotic sushi specials. Nice sake selection. Friendly professional service. Funky almost raw looking space - no sign on the street. Expensive, but my favorite.

I felt cheated, I went with my husband I did not ask for Suhi because my belly hurt, I asked the waiter for a tray of only traditional variety, standard to clarify I did not want anything special, the waiter cannot have our budget, I should ask if the waiter make the decision to bring such expensive or special pieces, and have to force us to pay for a very small Suhi tray for a single person, he brought me without our consent or approval of the price 1 unit piece of us18, another of us19 another of us18 and so I paid us 186. 24 we only had 2 beers, I only ordered a Mizo soup a little rice and some seaweed You can't do that because he doesn't know if we can spend that money.

The restaurant is a bit hard to find. It’s located in a hotel and only has a tiny sign on the outside of the hotel. The sushi was excellent - very fresh, although a touch sloppily made. Sashimi also excellent. The mushroom miso soup was not great - very little flavor. The service was only okay. We were first seated at a table right next to the service area. I asked to be moved and we were put at a table in one of the side areas, which was nice and quiet. The server was okay in terms of attentiveness, but she wasn’t friendly. We felt as it if was a bit of a chore for her to serve us.

It was one of the best dining experience I had in NY. Sashimi is super fresh and they had all fresh and rare fish imported directly from Japan. I love the way how the service manager explained and recommended the dish. He talked to us to figure out what we look for the dining experience before introducing a certain dish that could meet our expectation. Price is on a higher end but you pay for what you get. The setting and ambiance reminded us about the authentic sushi restaurant in Japan. We definitely come back and highly recommend to people who look for an authentic taste of Japan.

A friend and I were looking for a place that could work for her dietary restrictions (gluten and dairy free), and figured our best bet would be sushi! Blue Ribbon really surpassed both our expectations. We ordered edamame, sushi, and sake, and every single thing we ordered was amazing. Or server was super knowledgeable, and was able to suggest any modification we needed to make our meal perfect. He even brought out gluten free soy sauce without us asking! Any time I’m in NYC I’ll be trying my best to get back here!

Very good service and with fresh options. The menu has lots of choices both food and sake. Well worth grabbing a drink nearby and people watch, then heading here for an excellent experience. Try the Chef’s choice menu. 9 or 18 pieces of sashimi melting in your mouth. Oh, they also have low sodium soy sauce if you ask for it. Prices are pretty reasonable for NYC.

Fantastic sushi and excellent service in a really neat, almost hidden, venue. The location is in a great neighborhood and the establishment is in a very understated address for the restaurant inside. Upon entry, you get a warm welcome into a surprising space that makes the meal all the more enjoyable.

Blue Ribbon was a great experience. It is a cozy and small restaurant. The waiters are friendly. Food was very tasty; great sushi and rolls. Recommend the spicy ones. It is a bit pricey.

We have recently come to NY and being regulars of Japanese food we have enjoyed it very much. The product is of the highest quality and the quantities are very correct. TOP staff. Good quality/price ratio. Highly recommended

One of my favourite places in NY. The fish used in sushi is of excellent quality. Salmon nigiri melts in your mouth.

Could well be my favourite casual restaurant in NYC. Small venue that doesn’t take bookings. We once again got lucky with a two minute wait despite plenty of queue. We had a chef inspired menu due to our not being bothered to concentrate on ordering. It was amazing. Great sushi and sushimi. Star of the show was the smoked horse mackerel which the carcass, head and bones later reappeared as dehydrated and 100% edible. Exceptional service as well.

Very good experience, remembering Japan in the middle of New York. With so much Japanese restaurant, it’s hard to find places with proposals that remind you of Japan and this is one of them. Small place, well-set and very good food.

I can write a lot of this restaurant, but flavors can not be written. This restaurant is a festival for your soul. The atmosphere is ok, but food... Out of control. Price: U$100 per guest without wine.

sushi rol medium quality. sushi is very very good. we bought 3 types of sushi 4 types of sushi roll a glass of white wine and one creme brulee as dessert. We paid 141 dollars.

There is no other place that I would rather go for sushi and sashimi. It's always superb. Attentive service, comfortable seating, great saki choices. Can't ask for anything more. Of course, it's not cheap, but worth it!!

If you want good quality sushi this is the place to go. It is a little on the expensive side but worth every penny. The quality of the fish is outstanding and the service is excellent.

The service was amazing! I thought I didn’t like sushi, but when I went I loved the food! The restaurant was so cute and I especially loved the edamame😋😋😋 would 100% recommend and hope to go back some time soon!

very good sushi, local Cairno, a little crowded but because the food is good. Portions a little small. Good lunch

Quite good sushi bar. Service was excellent. Sushi was good but not really extraordinary. Sat at the bar, that was a Perfect spot.

This was a great trip. This sushi bar made it something to remember as I have never had better toro and a few other cuts if amazing fish. I came back several times in 5 days once for both lunch and dinner. So good so delicious. Enjoy

Absolutely brilliant food, brilliant service and all is super fresh! What more can one ask for? We say more sushi/sashimi and more beer and sake!!!

The edamame was amazing and the feel of the restaurant is very aesthetic. The sushi was scrumptious.🍣🍱🍤🍜🥟🍲🧂The staff is very chill also. The staff also gave us a private dining space that had a vibe of a relaxing sauna☺️my friend thought she hated sushi but when she tried it she fell in love 😎

Visited as a result of a recommendation and Blue Ribbon didn’t disappoint! Pricey but you get quality and luxury dining experience! Their rock shrimp is the best, so good we ordered it twice! The sparkling sake was a great alternative to the traditional sake. Definitely worth a visit!

One of the best sushi places I’ve ever been to. Our waiter Toshi gave great advice about what to order, we were luck to have him (if possible ask for him at the restaurant). I’ll definitely come back when I visit NY again!

Incredible sushi! I have never eaten sushi like this. The restaurant was set just in Japanese style. Very beautiful, the chefs cook on sight.

Met a friend at Blue Ribbon for sushi and loved every bite. Fresh and delicious. Excellent service and cozy inside.

Incredible sushi, friendly staff and a real find for sushi in Soho, NYC. Would highly recommend this gem of a place. Would definitely go back.

So good! A sushi fan must try this place! The sushi rice and the fresh fish just melt in your mouth!

After experessing some interest on the Hokkaido uni, and deciding to forgo it for an oyster shot, our waitress picked up on it and asked the chefs to put more uni items in our Blue Ribbon special. Attentive service, fresh ingredients and good presentation make this a great option for sushi in the Village and SoHo. Its hard-to-spot underground location just adds to the quiet and relaxed ambiance of the place. It's worth a visit, or many.

I treated myself to dinner at one of my all-time favorite Japanese restaurants, Blue Ribbon Sushi Bar &Grill—Columbus Circle (at the Columbus Hotel, 308 West 58th Street, #6, NY, NY 10019). The Sullivan Street location, the original, is fun, though generally crowded, and it’s too far downtown for me. I can always count on Blue Ribbon for fresh and delicious fare. The menu is wide-ranging, and for those who don’t indulge in raw fish, the cooked selections are wonderful, too. My server, Maxime R, was fabulous—very gracious and always ready to refill my water and green tea. I prefer to eat at one of the booths leading in to the main dining room just because I prefer the quiet and don’t love crowds. I sometimes have Blue Ribbon deliver, but there’s nothing quite as good as being there. Looking for a great way to relax after shopping at Columbus Circle? Head across the street to Blue Ribbon Sushi.

With so many sushi restaurants to go to in NY, please do not give in into nostalgia. BR used to be a destination for some of us, but has become quite bad. Not even proper cup tea! Plastic wrapped fish on the caunter. Over expensive… I mean guys… please, some contact with reality!! Do not go to Blue Ribbon.

We had an outstanding lunch. Knowledgeable attentive staff. Terrific sashimi & sushi. Great sake suggestions. as I said in the title, the only thought we had upon departure is, when can we return?!

Me and my wife eat here quite often. You can't find better sushi in New York City. We've never eaten a roll we didn't like here, even ones we don't normally prefer elsewhere. We highly recommend Blue Ribbon.

We tried many things! First the soup was wow! The rolls were amazing especially the dragon and lobster. The sashimi of yellowtail was pure. The cucumber salad is a must. Nothing was less than perfect!! Try it.

I’ve discovered this place only recently on TripAdvisor and I decided to check it out. That’s probably the best Sushi I’ve tasted in ages! I went there with a couple of friends. First we’ve shared a Rainbow roll that was amazing! Then I got a Sakana San Shu that was as fine as one can get. The atmosphere is nice, it feels like and old-school sushi bar. The service is super fast and polite. I hear that this is a collaboration between a Sushi chef and a couple of brothers that own several more restaurants. Judging by this one, they do a good job. I’ll definitely check the rest.

This is, hands down, the BEST quick bite of sushi I have had in NYC. The service is impeccable, the menu is authentic, and the sushi is amazing. This will become a regular spot for me.

Went there last Saturday for late dinner. Rolls, sushi’s are amazing. Super fresh. Had the aji which they deep fried after. Exceptional. Few rolls (salmon/salmon skin) and several sushi’s. Best uni. Very fresh. I definitely recommend if you love sushi’s. Great service as well. This place is always so good and consistent!!!! Never been disappointed.

Very good Ask fo the toro, expensive but very goof Good price a little expensive Good place Good service good real Japanese food

Nice food, good service ... nice engawa not to forget “oma kase” pair with a bottle of cold sake .... awesome combi

Great recommendation from our nearby hotel concierge. Very good service and food. We had sushi, edamame and a large Sapporo.

Quality food. We ordered crispy tuna rice, fried chicken, shrimp roll, avocado roll, crispy Brussels sprouts - everything was delicious. The hotel seemed quaint, quiet, neat and clean. The restaurant was on the smaller side, not packed, not a scene. Overall a very nice date night dining experience.

This is a very Nice sushi bar in NYC. Book a table. the waitlist can be long. Take away as an option. Try the Spider rolls

Went here on recommendation but was very disappointed. Not very cozy and the food was nowhere near good sushi. We've had sushi in every corner of the world, but I'm not going back here. Our teenage daughters even wanted to leave the restaurant. The service was the only thing we experienced positively.

My friend and I are in New York for a few days and wanted to find a nice sushi place. Blue ribbon exceeded all expectations! The place itself is lovely. Its easy miss on the outside, but that makes it all the better when inside. The food was amazing! I'm unsure of the proper names but we had unagi, California rolls, fried shrimp rolls, octopus, squid and red snapper. I would highly recommend! If I'm ever back again I will definitely be going back to the Blue Ribbon. 10/10.

Wonderful as always. Very fresh sushi and incredible flavors. We also went to the sushi bar and it was the same level. Super recommended

We love this place! We came to NY to celebrate a birthday and made reservations here, because we remembered a wonderful meal 4 years ago. It's not cheap, but the outstanding sushi and considerate staff are worth the price.
One of the best Japanese in NYC
Although it is a first come first served place, your wait will worth it and the delay will be rewarded. We went once and couldn't resist to visit it again after 2 days cancelling another reservation that we had made 1 month before! The people there are just not kidding when it comes to raw fish, cut and filleting of the fishes. this is the original japanese sushi, without extra sauces and fatty decoration. The service is so helpful! All waiters know the menu and they recommend dishes based on your preferences. Very good wine list as well! You will most probably meet many asians which means that you are at the right place for sushi!
