A Great Choice for Date Night

By Matt H |

We chose Blue (located at 856 9th Avenue) which features Mediterranean seafood and tapas. We only had two nights in NYC this trip and wanted good seafood, but we were not interested in fine dining. Blue is in the upscale casual market segment. In addition to a warm ambiance at Blue, perfect for couples on a date, the food was fantastic. However, what really made the night special was the great guidance and attention of our server Ermir. It is a delicate balance for waiters, between providing too much attention and having a guest feel they are ignored. The truly great servers find a way to make every guest feel special and every table like the are the most important one. Ermir did a wonderful job with ours and his other tables. So many people complemented him as they were leaving (us included). Ordinarily, we would have gone straight to their selection of oysters (they have six different kinds ($3.10-$4.75 each) but we had some the night before and we zeroed in on some other great choices from their crudo/raw dishes section. Emir highly recommended the Chef’s Crudo Plate ($26), which featured three selections from the menu—that night it was smoked salmon, citrus cured with tomatillo, orange, dill, tarragon, lemon and EVOO; tuna tartare served with avocado, radish chive and orange vinaigrette; and a Branzino ceviche-pickled onions, cherry peppers, cherry tomatoes, cilantro and avocados. For those of you who do not know, Branzino is a European Sea Bass. We loved all three, but I think the smoked salmon was best. We moved onto a trio of bruschettas ($12). I was pleasantly surprised by the portion size, enough for each person to try. In addition to a traditional type bruschetta served with burrata not buffalo mozzarella on top, the other two types paid homage to the Mediterranean cooking style of the restaurant, while keeping one eye on the Italian nature of the dish. Emir loved the goat cheese & ‘Nduja which is a spreadable pork sausage with roasted peppers. I did too. If you don’t like heat you may want to have your partner eat most of this one. But do try it. You taste the goat cheese first and it is very creamy. Next you taste the flavor of the ‘Nduja and the finish is that heat from the peppers. The last bruschetta was a Bocherones (white anchovies) and Sun-Dried Tomatoes Pesto. My wife liked this the best, and the sweetness of the pesto went perfectly with the saltiness of the anchovies. Note: you can get each of the bruschettas individually for $5 apiece. We finished our Blue experience by going to one of our favorite things to eat, a Meat and Cheese Board ($30). Blue’s version of this included two meats, the Prosciutto Di Parma and Mortadella with Pistachios, two cheeses, a Yerba Carba (herb crusted, tangy goat cheese) and Manchego. The Board also had a delicious fruit compote made from scratch, pickled garlic, nuts and rosemary focaccia. We had them add a ramekin of honey (do this, you will thank me later). The meats were wonderful and sliced almost paper thin, so tasty by themselves or with one of the cheeses. We tried every pairing possible. Blue offers a full array of hand-crafted cocktails (Avg. $16) and a medium-sized wine list ($34-$355). We paired our food with a Pullus Pinot Grigio Rose from Slovenia ($44). Dinners run from $27-$44. Tapas are $15-22. If you are looking for great seafood, done a little different with no decrease in taste or quality check out Blue. Ermir will take care of you.

A welcome additional to a neighborhood full of mediocre eateries

Sat at the bar and enjoyed a selection of fresh oysters which were delicious and well presented, a fennel salad (nice portion size - not to large - fresh greens), orata carpaccio and later a pizza. Everything was enjoyable and the atmosphere of the place is very pleasant due to the clever interior design.

Good but expensive

By Warries |

The restaurant was half full for the duration of our meal , a shame as the quality is very good but it was the most expensive meal of our 4 dinners so far . We shared a starter and had a perfect dish of beautifully cooked halibut in a tasty tomato based sauce . Good service , faultless but at a price .

Hidden gem

By BellaFella82 |

This is one of my favorite go to places. It’s a hidden gem and the food is always on point. I have never been disappointed with the food. It always is amazing

Poor food and not great service

By Treacletart |

It looks nice enough, clean, friendly staff. But after that - I have nothing but complaints. For a seafood place - my seafood bruschetta was like eating rubber on stale bread. The arugula salad contained grey baby corn, gross. My husband's pizza was the worst - not a good crust and the toppings were all cold. I thought I'd give them the opportunity to win me over with a good dessert...I ordered salted caramel gelato...out came a fruit sorbet that didn't even look close to the correct color. I tried it, as did my husband - obviously the wrong thing. When I called the waitress over she asked if I'd just like to keep the sorbet "as you've started it". Didn't seem happy when I sent it back...and I detected a hint of sarcasm when she brought the correct dish out. Awful place.

Okay as a wine bar

By James_Solly |

The wine, food and service were okay. The decor is very pleasant. The wine selection and menu are okay. My advice: The tables are very small so only order a small plate for yourself otherwise you will spend a lot of time moving items around and no time to talk or look down at your phone. The walls reverberate so if there is a table of four or more then voice communication is impossible.

Great Late Lunch

By Melissa |

My partner and I stopped in for a late lunch. I ordered the seafood pizza, and he ordered clam chowder. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The pizza was the best I have had in some time.

Excellent dinner in a cozy ambience

By Alina S |

Very good value, accommodating service and great for special occasions like Christmas etc. It is walking distance to the Met Opera and therefore suitable for pre opera dinners.

Randomly walked in....what a gem!!

By Andrea P |

On holiday in NYC, husband and walked in on a whim. It was late afternoon, past lunch so not many customers, however, the manager was immediately friendly and happy to serve us. We had a delicious New England clam chowder served with fresh, crusty baguette. We followed with fresh salads: mine, a red and gold beets with arugula, goat cheese, and balsamic reduction; and a burratta with tomato salad for my husband. Beautiful presentation and perfect portions! Highly recommended!

Very good but small portions and very expensive!

By Wilma R |

My son took me there during a recent visit to NYC. Portions are small and prices are high. Food is good. The grilled octopus was to die for but again, for the price, I expected a bigger portion. I guess it's what you expect for NYC.

Very giid

By zougras |

Had the octopus and scallops to start. EXCELLENT! Then finished with bruschouto pizza. Everything was great. Wait staff excellent as well. Atmosphere very nice and European feel. Owner was there and did a good job of coming around and asking if everything was good! Congrats Blue. Vasili & Anastasia

Ecclectic selection of well prepared menu items

By billp25 |

Fish centered restaurant from raw bar items to more traditionally cooked fare. However, the non seafood lover will also not be disappointed - with a wide range of tapas and large plates. Regretfully, many of the seafood items are not sustainably sourced, so, diner beware. Desserts were a low point and wines were a bit over-priced (but you are in manhattan). Staff was attentive, well informed and enthusiastic. We were there at an off hour (8pm on a Wednesday, I could easily see it getting very crowded and noisy at busier times - 20 +/- tables.

Excellent Food

Recently went here and had such a great time with amazing food and drinks. Everything we had was really great.

Cool space

By AirSchis |

Located on 9th Avenue near 57th Street this is a fairly new place. I had lunch there recently as I was intrigued by their food menu and their interior. Beautiful chandelier and nice space that is tasteful. The server was friendly and efficient. I enjoyed my sandwich and Belgian-style beer. The place wasn't too busy. I liked the ambience and food so decent lunch destination.

Great find!

By DGGM2017 |

We were just walking around looking for a place I could try some oysters and that my husband and I could both enjoy dinner (he doesn’t like oysters). We just happened to see this place and it was so quaint and cute and all the food and service were great! Oysters were great and they had 2 types of pre fix meals available - my husband got the 5 course and I got the 3. We both tried each other’s food and it was all delicious. Definitely recommend.

Late night oysters & alcohol

By kiyeran |

Booked here quite late on a Wednesday evening at 8:45pm after we saw a show and walked around the city a bit. We ordered the Flush Royal, which as $22 for 6 pieces of oysters, as well as some tapas. The octopus salad and the calamari were both scrumptious - and the food definitely went well with my glass of chardonnay and my boyfriend's beer. Special thanks to Antonio, who was just an amazing waiter. Since it was quite late and there weren't as many customers, we chatted with him a bit, which was great because it made our dining experience that much better. Definitely go here for amazing food and service!

Great New Find for Seafood and Pizzas

By ccpark888 |

First, try their cold cocktails at the bar and when seated order their many small plates to share (meats and cheese from Spain), pizza for the table, almond encrusted halibut or branzino a must or oysters with your favorite bottle of prosecco.

Best buck-a-shuck oysters ever!

By foodiecat |

Okay, my standards for happy hour oysters are usually a bit more relaxed than if I'm paying $2-4 apiece. On my recent visit to Blue, they didn't need to be! The blue points that my friends and I were served were enormous, briny, and so perfect that to put anything other than lemon juice on them would have been a sin. We each put away a dozen, followed by seafood pastas for my friends (mixed for one, vongole for the other) and octopus carpaccio-white bean salad for me. As the happy hour prosecco is far too sweet for our palates, we opted for full price bubbles that were well worth spending a bit more. Wish we hadn't had to upgrade the wine, but all in all, we had a lovely experience, as on previous visits.

Warm and welcoming decor and atmosphere

By LuxuryExplorer |

Blue Seafood Bar had been open for only one-week when we wandered in, attracted from the outside by the soft lighting, brick walls and café atmosphere visible through the front window. We had failed to find the tapas bar that we were looking for on Ninth Avenue, but two very tall and cold glasses of hard cider and our view of the chefs in the gleaming kitchen quickly made us forget any lingering disappointment. From a menu that included oysters, a variety of fish and seafood choices, my husband chose the octopus and I the pizza with prosciutto and arugula. Our appetizer was a small serving of the “sweet shrimp” listed under “Crudos”. The one perfect sweet shrimp that arrived on a beautifully arranged plate was indeed raw—sprinkled with pomegranate seeds and shaved green onion, delicious if one didn’t mind the soft texture. The perfectly grilled Spanish octopus came with a subtle sauce that was a perfect counterpoint—I don’t recall its ingredients if they were listed, but my husband found it delicious. My ‘prosciutto pizza’ came showered in fresh arugula (which was hard to eat with any grace—a little chopping might have been in order…), shaved parmesan and fresh cherry tomatoes lightly grilled. It was what I wanted at the moment if not entirely in line with Blue’s focus on seafood. Partly because we liked the general atmosphere so much, and our waitress was so pleasant, we lingered for a dessert of pistachio cheesecake, unique and prettily served, and not too large a portion if one is counting calories. If I had to mention downsides, it might be that tables are pretty close, but perhaps because of this, people acknowledge their almost-tablemates in a friendly manner and some banter-- but without intruding further. Our bill for this totally pleasant dinner came to $75.13 before the tip. Before we left the gentleman who had seen us to our table came over to ask what we thought—the lilt in his voice turned out to be South African, and he was one of the three partners founding the restaurant. Their website is not up yet, photos are still to be posted and their cards have not arrived. My photo does not do the place justice, particularly the bar in the front that one can see through the window. Address is 856 Ninth Avenue, NY NY 10019, just below 56th Street. Our bill reads: “9th Ave Blue” Tel: 212-757-7511

Great food in a tastefully decorated venue

By melanies668 |

I am here for brunch in this small venue not far from Lincoln Center. The place has marble tabletops resting on wrought-iron posts arranged for two or four. Their coccles are like mini sopapillas and are wonderful. Also as a change I ordered the lobster eggs Benedict which is far superior to the usual eggs Benedict varieties you find. If you are ever on 9th Ave near 56th Street area you should try the place.

Wonderful

Amazing quality sea food loved every bite and wine. Gabriella was amazing thank you for the service I had a great experience. Highly recommend

Wow- great new restaurant find in NYC

By Amy T |

I had a Sunday night early reservation which I really didn't need. It was fairly empty at 6. Had a nice little table and started with a delish martini and oysters. Oysters were very fresh and large and served with mignonette (always nice when you don't have to ask if they have it!) and cocktail sauce. They bread they served was delicious and it came with oil, salt, and cucumbers in oil. I couldn't choose dinner easily so I decided to do the 5-course tasting menu- great decision. It is served with three crudos-- all were amazing (see photos), a grilled octopus dish (fantastic!), and a grilled cheese called halloumi which was the best thing I've ever tasted! Next came my meal of mixed grill of seafood- to die for. Wish I could have finished it. Shrimp, scallops, giant clams, octopus, sablefish- unreal. It killed me to leave half of it. Dessert was a beautiful prepared panna cotta with a cappuccino. What a way to go. Attentive wait staff, beautiful interior, great wine list, and open-view kitchen. I loved this place. I'll be back with friends!

Amazing experience!

By Emy G |

My friends and I really wanted to find a good sea food restaurant that wasn't crazy expensive and we were very happy with our choice! The food and service were amazing (the man was Albanian and very nice)! For example I got Octopus for a great price of $22 which I think is affordable for such an option. Would 100% recommend if you're looking for good sea food!

Best drinks in Hells Kitchen!

By James H |

I absolutely loved the cocktails here and the oysters as well. They has a watermelon drink that was delicious and also a drink with basil. AMAZING. Whenever I come back to NYC this will be on my list to return.

Eat With The Locals

By Harold and Nanc... D |

This was our first visit, and we will return! We were eating among the locals, enjoying and celebrating family. The owner greets all as friends, and the meal is like small town Europe. Yes, it is crowded and loud , because people are savoring the true art of eating. It is slow food, to be enjoyed at leisure. Don't go in a rush. Go to observe the culture as you would a Broadway show. Conversations begin among strangers and children are embraced by all.

A gem in Hell's Kitchen

By Bill_FW |

We stopped in at Blue Seafood after the opera, on our way to the train. Grabbed a seat at the Bar for a drink and quick bite. The excellent bartender (Csaba) mixed us a great cocktail and expedited our food order so we won't worry about timing. It was a great experience! We appreciated how accommodating everyone was, and how delicious were both our drink and food order. Highly recommended.

Great spot and cute decor

By danibrig |

We came here for brunch one weekend and it was such a nice find! I think they've just recently begun serving brunch and lunch. The service was extremely attentive and the food was delicious. The salad was slightly on the smaller side for the price it was listed at, but very yummy. It wasn't very full at all in the morning though I suspect they get more crowded at night times. We had a reservation but it wasn't needed. Great espresso at the end, too!

WoW!! Very good restaurante

Innovative seafood tapas with stellar service

By David H |

There are some excellent tapas available at this quiet restaurant on 9th Avenue. The focus is on seafood but there are a number of other tapas and entrees that are vegetarian or non-veg that are worth trying. The highlight was the highly personalized service from a superb team especially the waitress who served me. This might have been the best individualized service that I have had in years. And there are some creative cocktails as well as an excellent selection of white and red wines by the glass.

Upscale Seafood Bar with Happy Hour

By Illini1982 |

My wife and I are from the Chicago burbs and were in NYC for a long weekend. We enjoy Hell's Kitchen and were bar hopping. We stopped in the Blue because they had a nice happy hour advertised. We found they specialize in oysters, which my wife loves. They have a large variety. For Happy Hour they were $2 apiece. My wife thought they were just "okay" but she got the cheaper ones and didn't try the more expensive. However, their drink specials were excellent. The bartender also is an excellent "mixologist" and made my wife an original Lavender based drink, which she loved. Overall, I would say it is more upscale than many Hell's Kitchen places and probably has great seafood.

Incredible food in a European environment

By Manuel M |

We arrived at this place from the hand of friends living in NYC. This is not a touristic restaurant; it is a real Mediterranean place in NYC. The place is small and crowded, with small tables, but very nice decorated and with great ambient. The wine card is great and the menu is better. You can have a traditional meal or have assorted entrees to enjoy with a bottle or two of wines. The service is very personal, and friendly. The price value relationship is very good. We really enjoyed the place. When I return to NYC, for sure I will return to Blue Seafood Bar again.

a new discovery in Hell's Kitchen!

By ianshamshey |

I passed by the Blue Seafood Bar and Eatery which had only recently opened on Ninth Avenue in NYC. I like to try new restaurants before they become extremely popular. I was met at the door by I think the owner and was seated immediately. I ordered a drink and it came immediately. I perused the menu and they had a large selection of things to choose from [oysters-east and west coast] cheeses, small plates, charcuterie and entrees. I ended up ordering the clam chowder and as a main course, the lobster benedict. The lobster benedict came on a piece of potato as opposed to an English muffin but this was an interesting variation. I ended the meal with a cup of coffee and Rose, the waitress, was very attentive and came by several times to see if i needed anything else. I would recommend and return.

Casual seafood tapas

It's my second time in this beautiful place. Great atmosphere, amazing food. True germ in Hell's Kitchen. Highly recommended!

Fantastic Find!!!!

By TNTWesternAustralia |

This little bar is tucked away on 9th Ave, near 56th Street and is definately worth a visit. There is a bar at the front of the restaurant and a small dinning area at the rear. Though the bar area is only small you dont feel cramped. The cocktails are well made and reasonably priced and the server behind the bar was very friendly and made us feel welcome. The bar has a Mediteranean twist and the food menu reflects this. We shared a platter of Proscuitto and Brie which came with breads, biscuits, walnuts and a delicious orange paste that was for the Brie. The combination of Brie and Orange together was amazing. If your up that end of the city put this one on your list to visit.

What a surprise

By StlmanChuck |

Have travel past this restaurant for some time and never noticed it although have eaten several times next door. The seafood was excellent, but we wish that there were more than four entree choices. Only complaint was that the cocktail sauces that came with the shrimp was weak.

Nice for bites

By Mary Donna P |

We enjoyed nice tapas bites and drinks with an old friend here. Our server Rose was gracious and very efficient. Good recommendations and we had very good food -- Bruchetta, olives, beet salad, cheese and meat tray, lamb bites. Good cocktails, and we were out in plenty of time to make our theatre booking.

Lovely spot in Hell's Kitchen

By Roberta H |

Hell's Kitchen needs more lovely restaurants like this. I've been here for brunch several times. The servers are great and the atmosphere is cozy and pretty. The pizzas are delicious, and as this is a seafood restaurant, my husbands favorite is the Seafood pizza. Also recommend the frittata and the scrambled eggs with avacado and smoked salmon.

Great service and seafood

By TravelGER49 |

Great service and seafood is severed. We just walked in and had a good time. The bar tenders are attentive and you can feel that they love their job. We only want to stay during Happy Hour but decided to enjoy the place longer.

A Neighborhood Winner

By jbgshrink |

We went here with friends who live in the neighborhood and had a lovely dinner in this comfortable and attractive Mediterranean Bistro. We first shared their Meat & Cheese Board which had on it prosciutto di parma, porchetta, cheese, nuts, garlic, fruit compote, and focaccia. It was a nice appetizer and perfect for four of us to share. The halibut was apparently delicious as was the clams with pasta according to my friends. My lobster with pasta was the only real disappointment. The lobster with cut into very tiny pieces and included a lot of the oddly textured part of the claw that many, including myself, don't eat. Bottom line is that the dish had perhaps 2 ounces of lobster in it. Other than that, the place was very pleasant and a nice eating experience.

Neighborhood vibe near theatre district-very hospitable

By ann m |

Blue is a cozy, creatively decorated spot with a large variety of menu items. The host made our group feel very welcome when we arrived, and our waiter continued to treat us with special care throughout the evening. The meat and cheese platter was a good start - excellent prosciutto, not the usual for a seafood restaurant. The duck terrine was also tasty. For entrees, the branzino and spaghetti vongole were good. The beet salad and tuna crudo were good small plates. There were so many choices it was hard to decide what to get! There is a list of special cocktail drinks and a nice selection of wines by the glass. A very pleasant experience all around.

Oyster Happy Hour!

By Rob S |

This is a true gem. I love sitting at the bar and getting the oysters at happy hour. They are so fresh and delicious! This is also a pretty cool bar and I always end up making friends with locals in the area.

Great Restaurant in HK

By Jason A |

Recently sat at the amazing bar here for a drink with a friend and was pleasantly surprised. The bartenders are knowledgeable, the wine selection is good, and the small plates are also good. We ended up with a charcuterie plate and the octopus and this did not disappoint. Would go back again.

Very good fish, lovely restaurant and brilliant service.

By Damian H |

I very very rarely eat fish but when someone specifically recommends a dish, occasionally I treat myself. Someone recommended the salt baked branzino here and he knows about food, so I went for it, I was not disappointed. This place is great, the restaurant is very nice inside, comfortable and stylish, really good. The menu is good, simple but good quality seafood and clearly well practised. The service is really really good, very attentive but not overbearing, professional but very pleasant, great balance. The salt baked sea bass was amazing, perfectly cooked and seasoned, light and tasty. I had it with roasted potatoes and broccoli raab in garlic, both of which were also delicious. Well worth the visit I enjoyed it very much, eating fish for me these days is a massive treat and eating here certainly felt like it too!

Bad Service And Food Made Us Blue

By Joanne T |

My husband and I dined here on on X-Mas Eve. We live in Columbus Circle and love to frequent good restaurants in Hell's Kitchen. Unfortunately this was not one of them. We liked the eclectic menu and the interior, but it ends there. My husband ordered the King Salmon to start with and being the he has a sophisticated palate, he could tell it was not "King" salmon, he said it was good but not great. I had the Tuna Crudo which I had to put a lot of salt that they provide to give it some taste otherwise it was ok. We also had the Iberico Pata Nagra and for what we paid the portion was a joke. We know it's expensive and imported from Spain, but please. We had been to Spain a few months prior and this was not as good anyway. This restaurant is on the pretentious side, and is trying so hard to be something that it's not. I feel it's more for tourists thinking they are going to a hip overpriced neighborhood restaurant, but not for locals who know the real thing. When I think of a seafood bar, I wouldn't think of Blue. I think they want people to mistake it for a wonderful seafood restaurant like Blue Water Grill in Union Square which has been around for years and is consistently wonderful. We waited a long time for our entrees and our waitress did not check on us at all and the place wasn't crowded. After about 30 minutes our entrees came out, and I had the Seafood Pizza which looked really good but didn't taste good at all. The pizza and sauce were inedible, so I ended up just eating the seafood that was on it. Again, I had to salt it up to give it some taste. I guess the chef doesn't believe in flavor. My husband had the Frito Misto, there was one shrimp and scallop and the calamari was greasy and not flavorful. We were hungry so we didn't send it back, although nobody checked on us anyway. When the waitress (Angela) finally came over to us when we were done she even commented on how I didn't eat the pizza. I should have just said that it sucked and she never checked on us just to get a reaction, but we had somewhere to go so we just asked for the check. In retrospect I should have asked to speak to a manager that evening but we were already late. I certainly told our friends about our horrible experience at Blue. We don't mind paying high prices for good food and service but that isn't what we received.

Pricey and Trendy

By pkgreen2018 |

My friends who live in the neighborhood chose Blue Seafood Bar. It was a complete disappointment on several levels. While the servers were pleasant and professional, it all went down hill from there. First of all, who ever designed is tiny, crammed space must be deaf, dumb and blind. The entire dining room is shrill with nothing to absorb the chatter of multiple conversations. We had to shout our orders to the server. The room design is bright on a budget with fancy lighting to make it look like a trendy place in Europe. It is trendy. I started with their Winter Citrus cocktail made with Lavender vodka. While the drink was flavorful, it was basically a $16 fruit juice not including tax and tip. We shared the Fritto Misto: Fried calamari, shrimp, scallops and zucchini. We needed a paper towel to absorb the grease. We then shared the Mixed Grilled Seafood plater and planned on ordering more. However, this dish was so offensive not only in presentation but quality that we just asked for our check. I asked my friends if they would give Blue a second chance -- we all agreed with a resounding NO. On a more positive note, I have dined at their sister restaurant, Medi. I had very good experiences there.

Great meal in less crowded place a few blocks from Lincoln Center/Columbus Circle

By PhillC |

We enjoyed an excellent late lunch here after performance at Lincoln Center. Unlike most of the restaurants near Columbus Circle that were super crowded, this place was far less busy, which was welcome. There was a $24 two course prix fixe lunch but we chose to order from the regular menu because one of the salad specials sounded too good to pass up. Everything was delicious and the service was great. It was worth walking a few blocks away from Columbus Circle to get away from the crowds.

Wine.... Italian and Spanish Style

By Ashok Ganapathy Iyer |

The olives were great, the ambience phenomenal, the pork slices being prepared extraordinary.... this was an accidental visit due to flash rains that will remain in my memory

Still new and not too crowded

By Stephen R |

Went with friends on a Friday night. The scallops were great, service was fine, not too crowded and was quiet. Then friends called mid-afternoon Saturday and we were able to get a reservation for that evening; rather unusual for NYC on STurday night, but they have just opened recently, so perhaps not as many regulars. In general, the food was fine and the service good. Saturday did get crowded.

Fabulous Food!

By SS |

I went to Blue one evening with a friend. We walked past the chic storefront and thought the menu looked good. We had the seared sea scallop appetizer, which was outta this world! Then we both had as the main course the Angus Beef Strip Loin Steak, which was also amazing. My companion had a few glasses of red wine, I don't know what kind and we finished with coffee and a goat cheese cake that was incredible. The prices at Blue reflect the quality of the food, which is excellent.

WONDERFUL found by accident

By RITA R |

We only found this as we had been to the diner next door Rot 66 and were hungry. This is a really smart place and not expensive. Stylish, great menu and service.

Excellent

Excellent: we had bacalao and black squid risotto: straightforward yet creative dishes; attentive service; only minus is the noice level.

Delicious and charming

Delicious spread for bread, tasty linguine w clam sauce and yummy creme brûlée, charming dec and excellent service. Pre-theater pre fixe was cost effective.

Great atmosphere & clam chowder

By Laura M |

We had late lunch at this restaurant, I had a clam chowder and it was really good with fresh herbs. I also recommend the octopus salad... I must say it was so much food for lunch I had to take a nap after that....

Quaint and Good

By Lise C |

We enjoy eating here on a regular basis. We like the varied menu, which is delicately prepared. One can share tapas or order full meals. Food is excellent and the atmosphere cozy and lively. Staff is friendly.

Great Little Place

By Stephanie A |

My husband and I had dinner here and while the restaurant is small, it is very cozy and has a great atmosphere. Our waitress, Rose was great! She was incredibly knowledgeable in regards to portions and recommendations. We had the bruschetta and beet salad as a starter both are were delicious but I'm partial to the octopus, it had a great combination of flavors. We also ordered the fried seafood dish and a lobster pasta dish. They were both great.

An absolutely perfect dining experience

By Jennifer G |

We just loved this place to pieces. First, I cannot say enough about our server, Rose. She was delightful! It felt like we were spending the evening with a dear friend. The wine and cocktail menu was great, lots of super choices. If you're stumped, the Spanish Cava goes great with everything on the menu! We grazed through the tapas menu - I recommend the bruschetta trio, the grilled octopus and the seared scallops with mint yogurt sauce. My husband had the linguini with clams and said the sauce was very light and bright. Note: the tables are very small so this isn't the place to come with 10 friends (although it does look like they can pull tables together at the back, with advance notice). And don't come here with little kids. I'd say come here for date night, or a group of 4, tops, and everyone will be happy. Everything was extremely fresh and delicious and the decor was stylish. A perfect neighborhood spot. See you next time!

Good Fresh Seafood

By kesilo |

We started with the fresh oysters and some tapas. The oysters were good. We especially love the mussels. They were huge and and fresh. In fact, the mussels were the largest we have ever had. Our kids like the thin crust pizza and but mybwife did not like her spaghetti vongole. She said it lacked taste. The lobster fettuchine was excellent. The half lobster was big, very fresh, sweet and cooked perfectly. Service was just okay.

I thought it was great.

By 2cool4theroom |

It reminded me of restaurants that I have enjoyed in Spain. The wine selection was excellent, the service professional, and the food very good. The shrimp Caesar salad and shrimp cocktail looked delicious - enormous shrimp. My seafood pizza was outstanding. Anyone who says this place is pricey doesn't get out much.

Excellent experience!

By Aura S |

Mihaela is the best server! She was very attentive and responded professionally and promptly to all of our requests. The food was excellent! We had Haloumi, Fritto misto and Buratta and prosciutto pizza. Very nice presentation and delicious taste. We recommend!

We had a wonderful dinner before seeing a show. Service was outstanding and the meal was terrific. They did a great job of making sure we made the show without feeling rushed.

Just cooling out.

I really like the set up and seating. Great atmosphere and very kind and helpful staff. The Clams, pizza and octopus was excellent. Had a very pleasant evening.

Expensive - lovely food

By Elisabeth P |

Nice service and welcome. A lot of disses to choose but try the grilled the dish with different kind of mussels, fish, lobster etc and the oysters. Very cozy place and not at all American style.

Hidden Gem

By Roberta H |

We’ve been here several times for brunch. This was our first time for dinner and we loved it. The service is always great and the seafood so fresh. We loved the fresh oysters, the tuna tartar, the seafood topped pizza and the Spanish tapas choices. Can’t wait to return

Typical overpriced Manhattan eatery

By Rosemary W |

The food was good, but at these prices, it should be great. The table was so small, we had to have the waiter take the candle away just to fit our dinner plates on it. The tables are so close together it's impossible to get up without moving them (and even then you risk knocking over your neighbor's wine glasses), and of course there's no way to avoid listening to the loud-talker at the next table has he name-drops his way through the meal.

Awesome

Neighborhood Standout

By babspottay |

I live around the corner from Blue and have been meaning to go in for a while. We finally went in for dinner tonight and it's our new favorite spot. The place is small but buzzing, well lit and cool. The sound level is up there but fine. The service and food were great. We had delicious, assorted ceviches to start and an arugula, pomegranate and parmigiana salad that we loved. Then we shared pasta ala vongole that we also enjoyed. They had oysters, pizzas and other things we'll try next time. This area has so many restaurants and it's nice to find one that gets everything right. Highly recommend!

Fabulous happy hour!

Came for happy hour before seeing a performance at the Alvin Ailey Studios across the street. Great local oysters and bubbly! Nice neighborhood vibe and super friendly staff. Will be back!

Delicious Mediterranean Seafood

By Chris H |

We found this intimate Mediterranean seafood restaurant partly by accident on a Sunday evening. Lots to choose from. One had a squid ink seafood risotto with squid, scallop, mussels which was perfect. The other was a generous broiled salmon filet with white beans. A super Slovenian rose and cappuccinos and espressos roped it off . Service was quick and the atmosphere pure Mediterranean.

#1 Choice

By remsen |

Have never had a meal that was not exceptional. Great variety of oysters. Appitizers and entrees change daily as well as delicious desserts. The wait staff is friendly, efficient & professional.

Very Nice After Theater

By ViajeroGringo99 |

We stopped by after theater. Great Tapas and seafood. Overall excellent service and nice atmosphere. Highly recommended for those late night moments where a huge heavy meal is not desireable.

Wonderful dinner!

The lobster roll bites, clam chowder, crab cakes and lobster bisque pasta were all yummy. The service was also quick and efficient. Recommended!

Nice place

By Michi_wanders |

My sister and I spent our first evening (which was our christmas dinner as well) at this place. On one hand the food was nice although a bit pricy but on the other hand the quality was good. So you really get what you pay for! I had a tagliata-style steak which was a really huge dish (sides extra). The restaurant is small (even the tables) but really charming and upscale. All in all we has a lovely dinner.

Interesting menu

By Connie D |

Wide variety of menu options. Our party of 4 ordered different entrees and all were excellent. Wait staff was friendly. Only drawback.... Tables are very very close together. Nothing like sharing your dinner and conversation with strangers! Hostess tried to sit several parties of 2 at the tiny table between us and the wall, and all asked to sit elsewhere as it was just too cramped for comfortable dining.

Early prix fixe

By BBBBTravel |

Prix fixe menu is a wonderful deal for Nyc. Salmon was good. Service was good. (Mixed up my salad but very apologetic). The problem is the place is so noisy! Its small so you might hope it would be intimate and cozy but its do noisy I had to shout to be heard. Also dont believe the business casual dress code. Sadly there were people there in jeans and tshirts… ugh

Pricey for what it was

By D J |

The food was okay. We both had the special, pasta and a grilled halibut. Both were okay but neither were spectacular, especially considering the price. The table was so small it could barely accommodate two plates. Despite the restaurant being mostly empty the service was lackluster.

Delicious food and spirits!

By BeachesNwine |

Found this on trip advisor and we wanted seafood. It was a great choice. The menu isn’t huge for main dishes, but lots of appetizers and cheese and meat trays as main dishes. Wine and beer list has some great finds. Restaurant is on the small side and tables were small. Definitely could be an intimate setting if you want. Beautiful bathroom with endless mirrors. Service was good and the place got busy - make reservations! Seafood pizza was amazing!

Average NYC restaurant

By jacquelinerose5 |

My duck breast was pretty good, but my husband's risotto was awful. The ambiance was OK and the seating was comfortable. Not much else to say.

Over the Top Good!

By Kind Traveler |

Outrageously yummy! The Pizza with fresh basil was delightful! Truly enjoyed the Lobster Bisque over pasta and the Clam Linguine. The tenderloin was plentiful, delicious and beautifully prepared. We had an excellent dinner!

Wonderful seafood spot in Hell's Kitchen

By Lindsey M |

I love the ambience of this restaurant! I really enjoyed the food, in particular the grilled octopus dish with amazing sauce and the pumpkin cheesecake. The staff was so kind and helpful, especially director of operations, Chris, who made sure to make us feel welcome.

Great salads and appetizers

By Andrew K |

I say great salads and appetizers, because our waitress didn't volunteer the prices on specials: for example, $38 pasta (!), and how about risotto with shaved white truffle? $80! Please. My wife and I had black truffle shaved on pasta to the point where you couldn't see the pasta, in Perugia, Italy, every night, for $25. So we were very happy with a Tricolore Salad ($12) and a Shrimp Caesar Salad ($18) followed by two orders of Grilled Spanish Octopus ($19 each), along with a glass of Albarino ($12) and a Slovenian Sauvignon Blanc ($15) -- the winner. Great meal, and great service.

Good crowd and chic

By wong M |

A very busy restaurant. You have people in suits and tourists on holiday. Cosy, packed, buzzing. Seafood is of course good and reflected in price. You pay for the location, too. Probably not the most suited for children but it was a quick dinner, so they do not mind. Not a place for kids who cannot sit still because there was not much room for them to run around. It is a good place for friends, colleagues or couples to wine and dine. I would say 2 to 6 people. Bigger group would be tight.

Fresh fresh oysters!

By PaddyHH72 |

This relatively new restaurant in Midtown West brings fresh and delicious oysters in a cozy bistro setting. A nice and reasonably priced wine list complements the beautiful menu of small seafood, salami and cheese plates as well as salads and larger dishes. Will return!

Very nice surprise

By 408Erin |

We ended up here by accident and it was a very pleasant surprise. We had salads, the pizza, oysters, duck and seafood soup. Everything was wonderful and the ambiance was just perfect for a date night out. Staff was efficient and polite and manager/owner truly cared about our experience. Would definitely recommend:)

FABULOUS

Charming and welcoming ambiance, excellent cuisine. The staff - particularly the extraordinary and multilingual blond lady of Romanian origin - is very courteous. I highly recommend coming here.

Nice Pre-Theater Stop

By steelerfans |

We visited this restaurant for a light dinner before the theater and the menu was well-suited. The menu included Iberico ham which is not often found; the portion was small but very tasty. We had a seafood pizza that included a wide variety of seafood morsels.

Great surprise

Awesome place. Food is really good. The branzilio is outstanding. Cozy and service is AAA+. Definitely a place to go with friends and chat or in a romantic mode.

Stylish French-themed Bar / Restaurant

By Ted-620 |

Attractive bar with a great atmosphere and light. Tasty food, especially the appetizers and small plates. Modest but eclectic selection of wines by the glass or bottle.

Mediterranean Sea food spot in midtown Manhattan

By DFM |

Great spot for a casual dinner in midtown Manhattan. This restaurant and bar specializes in Mediterranean seafood and has a good list of wines. The grilled tuna was very well prepared and the appetizers (calamari, croquetas de ibérico and manchego) were delicious. Ask for the specials! They also have a raw bar and a good charcuterie offer.

Great food, noisy

By BarryandJackie |

Food was great, with generous portions of frito misto, salad, octopus, and bushettas. Service was attentive. Patrons are packed like sardines.

Exellent!!

By Martin M |

This restaurant has excellent food. My daughter enjoyed the pizza, my wife enjoyed the gluten free options in the menu and I enjoyed the grilled octopus. Every dish had an awesome taste and high quality and presentation. This restaurant has become one of our favorites.

A nice pre-show dinner

By Malcolm G |

There were five of us and we had a variety of dishes to share. We started with Margherita pizza and then added a couple of different salads plus grilled Octopus, etc. All the dishes were well prepared.

Late Night Fresh Seafood

By HAYNES5 |

Let me start by saying that the restaurant list their closing hour as 12am on week nights and they took a 11pm reservation on opentable. I received a call telling me the kitchen closes at 11pm. Thank goodness we made it there by 10:45pm. On to the food - we started with a 3 cheese platter that came with toasted focaccia bread, nuts adn guava paste, delish. The Seared Sea Scallops (2) and Fritto Misto were small but tasty. the Grilled Spanish Octopus was to Live 4 - Divine. We then shared the Fish and Pasta of the day, while the Branzino was seasoned well the Lobster Penne was out of this world with the fresh pepper and freshly grated parmigiana cheese the dish melted in your mouth. We were too late to order desert and the bill was pricey but the food was fresh and delicious

Worst service and old lobster.

By AleAliceNYC |

4 ppl - Birthday lunch casual at 1pm, 1 server for the whole restaurant. 2-3 tables including us, 2 ppl at the bar and pretty quiet and empty and service was so slow. Amazingly kitchen was fast and ringing those bells couple times for good pick up. So, we were talking our time since hardly getting service. Now, 2 shrimp salad, clam soup, a dozen of mix oysters as starter and beets salad. Everything was good until the Grande 2 lbs lobster came, taste gluey and old. I didn't noticed it I had a few bites and smells funny as well. I know well my seafood especially chilled lobster! I totally forgot to mentioned to the server since hes busy chasing other things. Also its our bday celebration and feeding a 2 yrs with fish and chips. Lastly, when 2 ppl left, server came and asked everything and made a rude comment how our friend are too you to have 2 yr old. And go on about she should not stop making kids!!! Oh my! Sooo rude and out of place! We ordered also desserts 3 x ( creme brûlée, choc cake and salted caramel ice cream) which he has no knowledge about and how long the soufflé will take; came out as not what he said and it was pre made choc fill cake! Then bill came to $350.00 and credit card machine didn't work!! Had to wait more longer...

Delightful pescatarian dinner

By Grace Annette C Y |

It’s a fusion French American seafood bistro. I liked it a lot and went back there a couple times because of their fresh ingredients and amazing flavors (I am pescatarian so it’s great to spot a good fish & seafood place). We ordered their signature appetizers and entrées. Everything came out perfect.

Amazing place in Hell's Kitchen

By Leslie O |

Just stumbled upon this place online. Great happy hour until 7 -oysters $2!!! Good drinks, great charcuterie boards and bartender was amazing. Must try if you are in the area.

WOW. What a place, REALLY GREAT! Puts the neighbors to shame.

By SHAUN W |

This is a MUST place. We couldn't find one thing wrong with it. A great new arrival to the area. Puts others to shame around it. Wonderful food, great servie, great decor, and kid friendly. We will be back for sure on our next visit to NYC. Thanks to all for making out evening.
