Excellent

By Mike A |

We visited this restaurant on a Saturday evening after arriving in NYC. As it was almost directly across from our hotel, convenience was the first thought. We were quickly seated and drinks delivered. We placed our orders and were not disappointed. The salads, garden and a spinach, were well prepared and plated as well as delicious. We both had filets. My wife had a plain filet which was well prepared and delicious. I had the filet with a sauce which was also delicious. We will return and recommend this restaurant.

Super food, very good service and reasonable priced. We had lunchmenues, and they were plentiful. Highly recommended.

Great for Pre-Theater Dining

By Steve B |

My wife and I ate here twice during our stay - both times in advance of 7:00 pm curtains at Broadway theaters. Once we both had pecan-encrusted salmon and it was delicious and cooked exactly as we asked. The portion we received could easily been have been split between us. On the next occasion, we split a 12-ounce hamburger and, again, it was delicious. On both nights we also split a salad with roasted artichokes and it was also excellent. We also thought the service was friendly and efficient - just what we needed to be able to get to the thesteron time.

Good chocolate mousse cake.

They were very full in their outside tables for the evening play crowd, so service was a little scattered, but the tuna tartare and tomato/burrata appetizers were great.

Great food, but pricey.

I had an incredible burger here which cost $40 but was well worth it. There was so much food I couldn't finish it all. TIP: don't fill up on the delicious homemade bread they bring you!

Lovely- not anticipated!!!!

This place hits! Female traveling for work. Food was great- had the steak Cobb salad and it was amazing. Took the avocado from the salad and spread it on the wonderful bread that was brought- perfect! My Cosmo was lovely also.

Birthday celebration.....such a disappointment!

By KJaworski |

We visited NYC yesterday to celebrate daughters 20th birthday. We wanted to have a wonderful meal after seeing a show so made a reservation at Bobby Vans on 45th. What a disappointment! The waiter had no personality and seemed annoyed to be serving us. I asked for a glass of wine ( on their menu) and he quickly responded “oh, we don’t have that I’ll just bring you something else.” What?? We ordered 2 French onion soups( good) and a wedge salad(good), my daughter got chicken parmigiana and a side of spaghetti( chicken was tasty, pasta cold), I got a sliced steak sandwich ( supposed to be filet mignon.... just ok, asked for medium and many slices were burned crispy) fries must have been frozen! My husband ordered the Bobby Van burger and asked for it to be medium well. ( It was most definitely medium rare!), again more frozen fries! The waiter never checked to see how everything was( he must have known it was bad!) The manager was walking around and asked if it was ok and my husband told him he wasn’t trying to be a pain but honestly his was not cooked the way he asked at all. The manager agreed and apologized. The bill came and his burger was taken off. We had been to Bobby Vans recently ( near Central Park) and enjoyed it so we thought this would be a nice place to celebrate her birthday. We were wrong and extremely disappointed! With so many choices in NYC, we will certainly NOT be going back there nor recommending it to anyone!

Pre-Show meal

By Gingerone2015 |

One of the best sirloin steaks I have ever eaten …. We found this restaurant on trip advisor and went in for pre-show dinner … both our steaks was cooked to perfection. Only 4 stars as was charged $10 for what we thought was complimentary water , this wasn’t made clear at the start ..::

After theatre dinner

By gorlinjay |

Nice patio Open late for post theatre dinner Seafood bouquet with lobster shrimp and lump crab a good dish and moderately priced for what you get. Wonderful with cold crisp white wine. Service is rapid. Cheesecake was good but not great. A staple in NY. Enjoy this place. Worth a revisit for a more formal dinner

As the Millennials would like to say......Meh

By LucBjorn |

Pros: Not crowded Cons: Dull atmosphere, Average Steak, Average Service As part of a chain of Steakhouses you get what you might expect, average service, average food, and below average environment. The food was fine, but not remarkable, and certainly not high end. However there was no price break for the average quality and service. If you want steak there are likely better options near by.

To flee

By sandrinemarseille13 |

10 days in NYC and it was the worst experience, Fortunately, the hostess is charming. The rescue service!! When ordering he was very nervous because, I think we hadn't ordered $60 dishes or alcohol! It wasn't pleasant at all, we're not used to eating like ogres and we don't drink alcohol (is it forbidden?) At the time of payment and I specify that we are paying with a black card (we can buy a car with it!!) he did everything to have our card declined, claiming that it did not work when we clearly saw that he didn't put the card in correctly, he asked us to pay in cash several times while talking to us like dogs. So we entered the restaurant to pay inside and not on his portable tablet, the same thing he got angry and dropped the machine, in short, crazy!! $30 tip billed directly, no choice! Mr. waiter know that you are worth zero, I even regret these $30 Unworthy to have a server like that, while the restaurant is friendly, the quality is OK... it's a nice bistro... nothing more

Great Birthday Celebration!

We had great food and an outstanding Birthday celebration! The bone in ribeye and mac & cheese are a must!

A great lunch deal

By Kjell Magne R |

We were here for lunch on our last day in New York. This is a little gem. Great food, white table cloth, and prices that are reasonable. And good service. What else can one ask for.

First night in NYC

By Mark P |

Having arrived from the UK that day and after wondering around Times Sq for a while we decided to have some dinner. The service was nice, with lots of stories from the waiter. The three steak meals and one lamb chops were appreciated by all. The portions were quite big. You can dine outside or inside. I did notice some TVs showing some US sport inside. We shared a bottle of wine and had two other drinks. Top end pricing though at $430, including tip and taxes. NYC I guess!

What a wonderful find

By Rebecca S |

Stumbled upon this delight whilst trying to find somewhere to eat off time square, the service was outstanding and the food delicious, well worth a visit !

Wonderful food and great service!

By billenglish2023 |

Excellent restaurant- Great food, service and location. The rack of lamb was phenomenal, and the swordfish was excellent. Will come back next time when we are in New York!

Disappointing

By SillyBilly1207 |

This was the second time we’d eaten at this restaurant and we’d also eaten at others in the chain. Being a Steakhouse, we expected a well-cooked, well-prepared, well-cooked and well-served steak. In reality, the steaks were sinuous and chewy - not worth the mid-range price tag. The service, on the whole, was good but could not compensate for the poor food.

Amazing service and great food

By flyman2009 |

We went on the 10 November and the service and food was fantastic. The waiter was very attentive and a credit to the restaurant. We then went on a second visit the next night after we went the previous night which was amazing. The food and service were excellent again and nothing was too much trouble. However, although our waiter was fantastic, the manager was quite rude and ignorant and seemed to treat the restaurant like his own dining room.

Past by this place multiple times and finally decided to give it a try

By itfb |

My wife and I stayed at the Hyatt Centric across the street and decided to try an upscale steakhouse about ten minutes away on our first night. Unfortunately, the food was disappointing—we couldn't even finish our meal. The next night, we gave Bobby Van's a try, and what a difference! Everything was excellent, from the attentive service to each dish we ordered. I had the filet with lobster as a side and hash browns, along with the onion soup. My wife ordered the scallops and asparagus. It was almost the same type of meal we ordered the night before at the other place, but this time, we nearly cleared our plates. Bobby Van's truly exceeded our expectations, and we couldn't have been happier. The service was outstanding, and the food was perfect.

Steak price was more than the website

By fromVAUSA |

Steak price was more than the other Bobby Van restaurants. To add insult to the experience, the price on the check was higher than the prices on the website. So then the manager took 15 minutes to adjust the check and never did they apologize. I was a fan of the chain and I will never go back. It was a small amount but they handled it really poorly and made me feel bad for asking to adjust the bill.

Times Square has another great restaurant!

By YkrsNative |

Bobby Van's Times Square is conveniently located near the Theater District so they cater to the Broadway show crowds with efficient, organized service. Buses, subway stations and Grand Central Terminal are within a short walk and there is outdoor seating on good-weather days. Restaurant Week offers first-time diners to Bobby Van an opportunity the fine fare; we tried the chili-flavored calamari along with our salads and it was uniquely flavorful (a peanut dipping sauce made it even more exotic). The steaks were cooked to perfection. Our server was on-the-money polite and attentive. We were seated on the second level with low lighting and a modern motif; not much in the way of a scenic view when seated indoors. Very nice, Bobby Van's!

Worst Customer Service Experience

By David W |

We visited this restaurant last night after a recommendation, but what a bad experience. We were sat beside 2 of the most ignorant individual's in NYC who talked and swore very loudly during our visit. I ordered a fillet medium rare, but this came more likely medium to well done. I know these things happen but when we spoke to the manager his conduct was as bad as the 2 loud dinners next to us. He said that's what happens in NYC. I couldn't believe his comment, as we have been in NYCmany times and have never experienced this. This restaurant is so pricey and the food is not upto the cost. He did offer to take off the price of the glass of wine I had but I declined as this was not about saving money it was about this not happening in the future. I paid the $166 bill and left. Please do not go to this restaurant as the manager does not give a hell about his customers. The waiter who was a gentleman was embarrassed by the whole event. David Wilson..

Birthday Dinner

By alana b |

About a week ago, I had the pleasure to talk to Peter who helped me coordinate my boyfriend’s birthday dinner. We were coming from Long Island to send a few nights in NYC. I have been to the location in Bridgehampton and I had a great experience, so I definitely wanted to give your location a chance since I was conveniently in the area. When I walked in the doors, I was greeted by Peter himself. He walked us up to our beautiful table. One request I had, was to customize the menu….with no pricing and a happy birthday shout out to my boyfriend. Which he honored and looked great! Our server Sergio was a delight! He was very professional and was very sweet! The food was out of this world! We got 2 meals and split them with 3 sides… It was FANTASTIC. I brought home the left overs and they were delicious even the next day!

Very good steakhouse with very good service

By izabela |

We had dinner 2 times and the food was really good. Very good steak, salads, sweets and very very good service. The gentlemen at the door remembered us the second time we went, and he gave us a better table. A nice restaurant in the theater district.

Great meal and service! Would recommend for steak! 5 star.

By Daniel R |

EXCELLENT FILLET MIGNON! Was looking for a decent steak restaurant, not too far from where I'm staying in Times Square (45th street). Must say, the service, the staff and the food was exceptional. Just what I was hoping for. We went for the 3 course menu, which also includes an appetiser and dessert. All really very nice. Thank you.

Good Food, Well Prepared

By Georgesec |

I have had dinner here a few times, and the food is always fine. There is a nice atmosphere for a mid-town restaurant, with a very nice menu.

Fantastic birthday dinner

By Chad R |

It was my son's 16th birthday and he wanted to go to a nice steakhouse in New York city. We scheduled with Bobby Van's Grill Times Square for the $49 meal. It was fantastic. Exceeded our expectations. The experience and the service was top notch. My son was very happy with his birthday dinner.

Times Square Gem!

By Jayne F |

This spot is great when staying in Times Square. Food was outstanding and service was great! I had the grilled Atlantic salmon and it was delish! My mom had the bolognese and she loved it and my DIL had another pasta dish that she loved! We also had sweet chili calamari which was excellent! My second time here and will definitely be back!

Strange food

By Alessandro Z |

Well, we ordered a porterhouse stake , as I use to order in Chicago, San Francisco and Dallas , with a specific cut ..medium rare ... they delivered a T-bone steak medium well done ...266 USD for average food , not really what I expected ... Ordered a Kendall Jackson wine , they delivered a different wine. Considering the ambiance I was expecting something more professional., but maybe is good for one and only visit.

Fantatsic restaurant in every way!

By Antbro82 |

Visited today for lunch which wasn’t really planned. Was greeted by Liam immediately who was easily one of the best front of house staff we have had the pleasure of dealing with. Service was fantastic, made us welcome and was happy for us to choose wherever we wanted to sit. Brought up a lovely selection of breads / water immediately - unlike many other places who wait to see what you order!! Food was fantatsic. I went for steak / pasta dish which was not on the menu but I saw two separate dishes that I wanted to create something more to my taste. Everything was cooked fresh so the chef was more than happy to accommodate. My only negative was finding this gem on our final day before leaving to go to the airport. On this trip I had also gone to Del Frisco Grill twice and I can honestly say I won’t go back there after trying this place!! Thank you so much for an excellent meal on our final day on the big apple!

A great steakhouse.

By adriano |

It is a very good steakhouse. We came here to have dinner, we were not expecting much, but as soon as the appetizers arrived we ate a lot because it was very good. The ribeye was wonderful.

Great food and great service!

By Riley D |

Our family enjoyed our dinner from start to finish. Sesame Tuna is a must! Honestly we enjoyed everything and what added to the evening was that the service was "spot on". Eddie was great making sure we were taken care of especially with my kids allergies etc. Couldn't ask for a better evening as we capped it off with walking over to see the "Tree". Thank you!

Nice casual bistro with great steak

By PennyPurples |

19 June. Visited this restaurant twice during my NYC stay. They do great steak & chips, pasta, etc. Casual bistro style restaurant. Lovely front of house team, particularly noticeable when I dined on my own one night and was given a very suitable table and treated so courteously by the waiter. Food was all very good, particularly the steak.

Worth a visit

By e w |

Great dinner experience two nights in a row! Our family had a variety of items and all were delicious! We especially recommend the Barley Soup. YUM! They have a nice bourbon selection too. Would definitely go again and do recommend. We sat outside one night and inside the next. Both were nice.

Excellent rib-eye

By Tollybutler |

We were seated in the treehouse which is at the landing of the staircase. Two tables are squeezed in a small area. Ordered the skillet meatballs which were just ok along with the bang bang shrimp, which Bonefish makes it better. it was too doughy. Had the porcini scallops, which were small. Cooked perfect. Would like to see them bigger and add one more scallop. $50.00 for four is alittle much. Loaded baked potato for $15.00 which has melted cheese on top. Similar to TGIFridays. Mediterranean salad came in sections so we asked for two spoons so we could mix everything which was messy to do in a small bowl. The rib-eye was excellent and the petite filet. The ladies room needs work, both facets needed be tightened and the bathroom overall needed to be tidy up.

Don't waste your money here

Terrible service from extremely rude waiters on Xmas eve....food not that great. Steak not cooked very well and extremely overpriced for food quality....

Great service - Thank you

By Jeemsohols |

We visited Bobby Vans on a Saturday night during our holiday. We were looking for steaks and the menu here looked wonderful. The smoked bacon slice was an amazingly good starter. Our steaks arrived soon after. After enjoying the first half of my sirloin steak, it became apparent that there was something wrong with the other end of the steak, and I could not continue eating it. I contacted our waiter, and he called the manager. We were impressed with how they handled the issue. I was immediately offered any main course I wanted, but was unable to accept because I was already full! The cost of the steak was deducted from our check. Everything else about the evening was exceptionally good. This is a very professional establishment.

Delicious well cooked food and nice restaurant

By crusadingblondie |

Excellent food and staff. Nice Decor. Ordered the Buffalo chicken tenders which was a starter but enough to share between 3 of us, gorgeous sauce and melt in mouth. For the main we ordered 32 ounce bone in Ribeye Steak and fries which we also shared. So tender and delicious. Attentive staff, would recommend for special occasion.

Great service , good meal

By Barbara G |

Pricey but not high for NYC. Southwest burger was great ($24) and came with onion rings and fries. Prixe fixe menu well worth it— ($45) desserts grand, chicken parm good, clam chowder excellent. The espresso is good too! Try it— it has a fascinating history.

Steak knife for chicken breast??!!!!

By Lynda |

We both chose from the $55 3 course menu. Starter was alright, and met there’s option on the menu. For mains I selected the short rib with mushroom risotto. It was tasty, but the risotto was overcooked. My husband chose the chicken Parmesan, which came with a steak knife?! Since when do you need a steak knife to cut chicken? Funnily enough, the chicken was so overcooked that he struggled to cut it even with the steak knife, eventually giving up and not eating the chicken - it was so poorly cooked that he even questioned if it was chicken, and was reassured by the waiter that it was chicken breast. Both had the New York cheesecake for dessert; the base was soggy and presumably it had been plated some time before being brought to the table, as the cream (sprayed from a can) was melting. Overall, very disappointed with our experience.

Restaurant week, a great valu

By Charlene V |

Visited here for restaurant week and it was a nice experience. Salad very good, filet was large and perfectly cooked. Bread is very good. Service excellent. Would go back for the regular menu, which had many tempting selections.

Excellent Service, Upscale Dining

By Charles Y |

This Bobby Van's was near our hotel, so we stopped in on a rainy night. We were looking for a lighter dinner, so we had the steak salad and the Times Square Grilled Chicken salad. Both were tasty with the protein juicy and prepared very well. The service was excellent - fast, attentive, and helpful. Bobby Van's is a higher-end restaurant, so a bit pricy. If you're tooling around Times Square and looking for a quick bite in a pair of shorts and flip flops, this isn't the spot. If you want a nice night out with your spouse, this fits the bill.

Great food,great Value

By SheAlt |

Just got into NY and walked across the street from our hotel to Bobby Vans. Got in with no reservation-6 pm. Ate Prix-fixe meal 45.00/pp. HUGE portions. Salmon was delicious-moist with a crisp top. Filet was at least 8 oz and so tender with a great flavor. Chicken Parmigiana was almost as big as the plate! It also was very moist and tender. We had 3 courses and honestly could have had ¼ of the food and still been stuffed. Dessert was average but was essentially “free”.

Noisy restaurant

By klray |

Arrived 30 minutes early and were seated at a window table in 20 minutes. It is so noisy that had we known of another steak restaurant to go to on a Friday night we would have left. Our food was delicious. Onion soup best I’ve had. Petite filets were cooked perfectly. Sides were very good. With two glasses of wine and tip bill was close to $200. If you can get a table in the side room, the noise won’t be so bad.

A decent steak house

By Sheryl T |

My son is a steak person so he likes it here. The prices are high, but typical for a place like this. My son is particularly fond of the filet mignon with a Caesar salad.

Anniversary Dinner

By jim b |

Our daughter's wedding anniversary, she is a vegetarian and she has two fussy teenage daughters and this place fitted the bill. The decor and ambiance is very nice and the menu varied. Three of us had the crabcakes and the veggy and the teens shared two margherita pizzas. All good sized portions and very tasty. Service was efficient but could have been a little more friendly but no complaints in this regard. With 3 sides, 3 glasses of rose, 2 beers and 2 sodas the bill was $370 inc. tip, about £50 a head. If you are paying £50 each, bear in mind we only ordered 5 mains, you expect the food to be a little special and it didn't reach this level. New York is not cheap to eat but there are other places to eat that produce food as good as this at a better price.
