Flavors of India in the Heart of NYC

Great food and service, very economical. The lunch combo is a value for money. Offers several options to choose from. Loved the ambience and food. The manager/ server was great, she helped select best dishes and was super courteous .

Made me want Indian food again

By matsays |

So I'm not a real big Indian food guy - like most I do like a good curry and tikka and whatnot but it's not something I crave...until now. This place opened less than a month ago and my wife and I have been there 3 times already. What I really like is that they have a diverse menu but there is a very special attention to offering vegetarian alternatives, and we love the lunch special. For that you pick one starter and one meal and while it seems like the dishes are tiny on the plate they are actually completely filling - accompanied by a generous helping of basmati and a lentil or pea side, and an huge helping of naan. Anyway, I really recommend any of the korma dishes - the cashew base is incredibly smooth and sweetened with pear. And their naan is some of the best I've ever had (they also have roti if you're GF).

We ordered delivery takeout. I am sorry I could not go to the restaurant proper. If I lived in the area, I would be back again and again. Since I have not been to the restaurant I will only give it four stars but if the restaurant itself is anything like the food, it would get five. The delivery arrived exactly on time. Your mileage may vary but I doubt it. Each dish was a perfection of spicy, savory and a little sweet. The Chicken Tikka Masala (Grilled chunks of chicken enveloped in mild Indian spices with fenugreek, onion and tomato sauce) was creamy, rich with a touch of sweet. The Chicken Vindaloo (Chunks of chicken cooked with potatoes in a tangy sauce) packed a punch. The spices really lit up your mouth but behind the warmth there was a sweetness that accented the entire experience. Both dishes came with rice. We did not know this so we ordered Peas Pulao Rice which was too much rice. The Garlic Naan was warm, soft and coated in garlic butter Don’t miss this place for an excellent taste of India.

Fantastical

A fantastically decorated restaurant of great beauty. The range of Indian food is quite large and I found the corn soup to be excellent. The goat stew was beautifully seasoned and very satisfying. The rice pudding was a classic recipe well prepared. Cleanliness was acceptable, and service was first rate.

Delicious food, nice atmosphere

I had the vegetarian lunch special ($11) here. The interior is quite nice with high ceilings and thoughtful, attractive decor. The chair was not as comfortable as it looked. The eggplant bartha was spicy and served with lots of fresh nan. The chatt was delicious. Service was pleasant and attentive.

Bombay Chowk is a really interesting little Indian resultant on the upper east side (around 74th). Food great and stylish restaurant. Service friendly and helpful.

Outstanding Indian Food

I live on West End Ave, and Bombay Chowk is all the way across town on 1st Ave. But when I looked at the menu and reviews, I thought it was worth a trek over to get takeout. Was it ever. Ordered Lamb Jardaloo and Paneer Bhurji Mutter. Both dishes were outstanding, accompanied by very good basmati rice. I would return in a hearbeat to reorder these two dishes or order others. Look forward to eating in the restaurant. We have eaten food from many Indian restaurants over decades, and this is definitely among the best.
