A gem of a restaurant

By apoarenas |

I dined at this place after reading the reviews. I was a walk-in customer. Every good review to this place was correct. It was a pleasant experience from beginning to end. The front desk was nice and made me feel so welcome. The whole staff was attentive and helpful but never obtrusive. And then the food...ah exquisite! Every component of every dish perfectly complimented each other, no ingredient was out of place. I had the lunch tasting menu and each course was mémorable, both in presentation and in taste. It was called tasting but unlike in other dining places, the portions were substantial enough that you don't just a "taste" of the food, you get to eat. And what an outstanding meal it was.

Imagination Plus

We had a business meeting at Bouley Test Kitchen on a recent evening and were treated to some of the most creative culinary adventures...ever. The test kitchen is a food exploratorium where Chef Daniel Chavez (Chef de Cuisine - Research & Development) works with David Bouley to create new experiences. The passed hors d'oeuvres were so intriguing, I had to ask Chef for some details. For example, there was a black truffle treat that was a combination of truffles, yeast and a few other ingredients, that are combined and then allowed to ferment for 45 minutes! What? The resulting taste was so complex (and delicious), I couldn't begin to separate out the different components. When we sat down to our 5 course menu, we started with Canape of an oyster surrounded by lemony foam and topped with Beluga caviar. This was followed by my favorite of the evening, a Dungeness crab and black truffle dashi. Like the truffle treat above, the combination in the soup was impossible to dissect, but crab was sweet and the soup superb. The the main course of Canadian bison was served and while cooked to a perfect medium rare and tasty, it could have used a bit more aging or a soak in a tenderizing marinade. The evening finished with two exotic desserts naturally sweetened with fruits. All in all an amazing experience. When I asked Chef whether any of his creations were published, he mentioned that he and Chef Bouley were collaborating on a new book for next year. It will be hard to wait!

Great experience

We came for the 7 course taster menu, we wasn’t sure what to expect. We was seated at a bar (seating was rather uncomfortable especially when sat for 2.5 hours ) along with 4 Other customers, in-front of a chef who was making the entrees. Your cutlery is in a drawer in front of you and the idea is that you feel at Home. The chef we had was lovely, he was quite new but very Passionate about the restaurant and bouley himself, he knew a lot about the entrees, it would be great if he had the same Knowledge about the other courses we were served however .... I can appreciate if you are new that is something that Can take time and I’m sure there is a lot to learn. The food served was lovely, you are there for an experience more than anything so you won’t be sitting down to dinner and leaving shortly after, the idea is to enjoy the different courses, learn about that style of cooking and the ingredients and learn something knew. I think it’s great for an occasion and for an experience but perhaps not somewhere you would go if you wanted to talk privately or be alone for a meal. You are given a lemon cake to take Home, I wasn’t sure if this was standard of if it was cake they needed to get rid of as it was a bit dry and wasn’t up to the standard of The rest of the meal. However it was a lovely touch.

Fabulous

My wife and I had the seven course tasting dinner last night and it was memorably great. Sitting at the counter watching the cooks work their magic (with David Bouley hovering in the background) is fun, even if it isn't the typical fine dining venue. The food was wonderful and the wine pairings were perfect. I detest sea urchin but the sea urchin last night under a "cloud" was a revelation. My only constructive comment is that most of the wait staff (not all--the bread server was a delight) could go to charm school. It takes a while for things to get underway and there is a briskness to the service that could be more gracious, patient and informative. We don't need a "my name is _____ and I'll be your server" but a little more warmth would have made what was already a terrific (if expensive) evening even better.

Enjoyable meal at Bouley

By LauraRachel |

I dined at Bouley over 25 years ago and have very fond memories of the wonderful food and of the entire dining experience - It was quite a show and a lot of fun. We thought it would be fun to take our daughters to Bouley at home and experience the five course tasting menu which is really more like a 9 or 10 course meal because they brought us other courses we did not order in between the things we did order and Those were some of my favorites. My husband and I also got the wine pairing which was excellent. My husband especially enjoyed all the seafood he ordered. I’m not a seafood eater but did try the scallops which were very good. My daughter loved a mushroom dish she ordered and one of the highlights for me was an eggplant terrine. We also liked the pineapple granite and the desserts were wonderful. The only thing That was was jus so so ok was the poached chicken which was fairly bland but I still liked it. I wish i had ordered a different entree course but the server recommended the chicken so I went with it. We really enjoyed the ambiance there and the service was excellent - some servers a little more stuffy than others (is smiling uncouth or something?) but all polite and responsive. This was good practice for our girls practicing their table manners. I would definitely recommend going at least once :)

A wonderfull resturant in a very strange setting

By airbag2011 |

It has been years since I have been to Bouley. I used to go there when it was down town. A friend of mine took his girlfriend and me there for lunch a week ago. I think they call this look Shabby Chic however, I don't feel it makes as the style of a high end restaurant. We opted for the 7 course tasting menu. It was grand. Consider it a party for your taste buds.

Absolutely mediocre.

By xanadu1963 |

Here are the highlights of our Christmas Eve dinner: 1. They were 30 min late seating us. 2. An amateur host asked the four of us to follow him to our table, only to tell us in the middle of dining room that he had made a mistake and the table was not ready. Go back and wait. 3. To their credit, they did offer free drinks while we were waiting. 4. The FIRST food item to arrive (amuse bouche) arrived at the table at 950 pm for an 830 reservation. 5. The manager apologized but the poor service continued. Had to ask for bread 3 times before it arrived 15 min after the amuse bouche. Then they kept serving bread nonstop which became annoying given 30+ min intervals between the servings of tiny portions for this multi-course meal. 6. At ~$200 per person without drinks, they mismatched the food -person three times! 7. The food was OK to good. None of the food items were amazing. Desserts were exceptional. 8. We had been to the old Bouley several times and thought it was much better than its rivals at the time ( Jean Georges, Daniel, etc.). This experience reversed all that. Sadly, this was emblematic of a talented chef lured by greed and the prospects of wealthy tourists blindly splurging on mediocrity. 9. Will not return.

Cheating dinner bill

By carman c |

We were tourists from overseas and made a booking a month ago ahead to our Christmas Day dinner at the restaurant in 2018. Our booking time was 7pm and we spent 3 hours at the restaurant for just a 6 course meal as I recall. Because we had to wait over an hour for the first dish to come on our table. But the main point for my review today is not about time it is about drink that we ordered. When we asked any non-alcoholic drink served at the restaurant, a waiter provided us with two bottles of grape drink one red one white, when I tipped juice in our glasses the empty part of bottles should be clear but they were stick with liquid mark, so I checked the expiry date it was shocked the expiry date were both in mid 2017. The most angrily thing was the dinner bill, when I received my credit card statement I was charged an extra US$35 to what the total amount signed on the night as a result I paid US$90 tips!!!. I contacted the restaurant twice from overseas requested a copy of bill with signature to send to my credit card bank, a lady promised to email to me however nothing happened then I rang again and spoke to restaurant manager, this time he provided his mobile and asked me to send him my copy, unfortunately I was provided with a fake number the mobile was not in service. Very disappointed with this restaurant and would like to warn other tourists especially from overseas to have further considering with this restaurant.

Valentine’s Dinner was good, but not great. At $400 per head with food and cocktails, I expected better.

We are avid foodies. Service was very eager but fell flat. Three courses came out incorrect. Not a big deal...just not 4 star. And not “special” enough for a holiday treat. We likely won’t try Bouley again. Expensive. Doesn’t live up to the price. A 7 out of 10 overall.

Special NYC

Very outstanding in every aspect, food, drinks and staff. I was there to taste a chef David Bouley special menu, and is like all the time incredible. Every time I enjoy the meal and the atmosphere. I love it. I highly recommend because no words to describe!!!

an amazing, unique experience

By Paul F |

being a fan of david bouley (his eponymous restaurant was one of our three favorites in the world), we were anxious to experience "bouley at home". even so, it surpassed all expectations! first of all, the wonderful sommelier from bouley is there. second, the food is as amazing as always. third, the staff, and chef bouley, could not be more friendly and accommodating. the chef altered the menu for us as pescatarians. he added another dish which was nowhere to be found on the menu. finally, the interactions with the chef were personal and interesting. get there as soon as you can. it is going to get busy quickly.

Astonishing. One of the best meals ever!

By MICHAEL ASHWORTH |

Chefs counter seating for the tasting menu at Bouley at Home is a remarkable experience. The chefs are magicians - you can watch them closely but still have no idea how they are able to create such amazing dishes so quickly and ‘easily’. As well as the listed courses we also picked up two more during the evening - scallops and suckling pig - so this is a long meal of 3 or more hours. There is apparently a wine pairing but we chose to pick a bottle of wine from the list. Hard to know where to start on the food. I’m no fan of oysters or urchin but here they are great. The mushrooms are amazing and the lamb while not as good as some prior courses was delicious. Splash out a little more for the cheese plate to round off a remarkable evening. David Bouley himself was there and talked us through the creation some of the dishes. Service overall is excellent. This is an very expensive dinner but it really is quite remarkable and highly recommended.

Excellent tasting lunch menu!

By Alexjoey |

We booked here in advance for lunch as the tasting menu set was quite reasonably priced. My wife opted for the pairing wine as well. We started with the oyster with yuzu foam and carrot soup and then has the wild mushroom with grilled tuna - they were the highlight as they were seasoned so well. For mains, we had the duck and lobster options and ended with the meringue and chocolate lava cake. They even surprised us with a small birthday cake for my wife. The wine pairing was really good and it’s a must if you love wine. Overall, highlight of our trip to NYC and would recommend!

Not Impressed

By Shirley B |

This had to have been an off night because from reading historical accounts, reviews and walking past the restaurant many times and seeing patrons enjoying food, etc. I am saddened by my own experience. I was expecting star service and taste. We reserved the theatre menu and arrived on time. Yet it took 25 minutes before anyone attended our table, so much for the theatre menu. Then another 15 minutes before ordering and no one offered the wine list, etc I had to ask the waiter who was walking by to please get this ball rolling. Amazing. The crackers with meats finally arrived. I ate them with water. I was really looking forward to tasting the sea urchin, but it was buried under the very pronounced lime foam which overtook the dish, and the urchin was rendered flavorless and non existent. Next the forager mushroom dish...and the tuna was overcooked and bland. When I see toro, I expect it to be almost raw. There was no red or pink center. The lamb was chewy, and without any flavor. It tasted like beef. I even gave my friend a piece to try, thinking it was me. But no. The deserts were okay, nothing cuisine about them. I am so confused about what happened. I have eaten at many Michelin Star restaurants and since this was a new ONE, I wanted to try it. Finally, the wine pairing was a huge disappointment. The wine did nothing for the food and this is where I was most sad. The marriage of tastes did not exist, and even on their own, the wines were only passable.

Amazing food - Bouley stellar quality in a new location

By Judy P |

My friend and I had the three course Prix Fixe lunch today. All the food was outstanding. The restaurant is very flexible, and allowed me to have two appetizers and a main course instead of appetizer, main course, and dessert. I had the sautéed mixed mushrooms with Toro, which was amazingly flavorful. My second appetizer was the porcini flan, that comes with crab meat, another complex flavor and texture wonder. For the main course, we both had the duck which was tender slices of duck breast accompanied by wild rice, purée, and a delicious sauce. Before we were served dessert, we were given a pre-– dessert course which was coconut soup with vanilla and passion fruit gelato with pieces of preserved pineapple – amazing and refreshing. We were then served two more desserts, an extra for me because it was my birthday. The chocolate walnut cake with sorbet on the side was moist and frankly just perfect. My friend had a chocolate cake with gelato on the side, which she pronounced terrific. An added touch was a plate of chocolates, and then as we left the restaurant we were each handed a little shopping bag that had a muffin from their bakery. All in all a fantastic dining experience.

Ingredient Organic Ammunition

By Brian F |

Chef David Bouley showed us that ingredient profiles can be blended to trigger health. His passion left us transformed, his conviction to the power of his ingredient’s cultivation our success in transforming our lives to pay attention to the foods we eat. (Not to mention a stunning selection of wines & GF breads). The chefs supporting Bouley were attentive. We shared a bottle of Château Latour in their honor. .

Great lunch

By Ramadama |

I have eaten at the old Tribecca restaurant a few times and preferred that decor and set up better...I like not seeing the kitchen. The new restaurant is nice. We came in for lunch and had the 5 course tasting nenu with the wine pairing. Every course was delicious. We tried the urchin and lemon foam oysters apoetizers... both were great. We had the mushrooms for the next course...fantastic flavors, I had the duck as the main course which was cooked perfectly and the the sides with it were fantastic. The chocolate lava cake and walnut cake were amazing. As were the assortment of little chocolates. The wine pairings complemented each course nicely and enhanced the meal. The service was great...we had a charming waiter who said he was from Morocco. We wanted a slow lunch and came in at 3:00 PM due to prior errands and had an enjoyable experience. One of the things I missed from the old Bouley restaurant was the assortment of delicious breads. This restaurant only offered 3 or 4 types of breads. After lunch, I was given a little box with a muffin of some sort to take home. The old Bouley would give you a delicious little loaf of bread. I would definately come back.

Great Service

Great service, home like feel, food was okay, would love to go back! I wish the desserts were better.

I would have to agree with

By Ritz1165 |

I would have to agree with the last review (Xanadu in NJ). First, my heart sank when I walked into the space. It looks like a wealthy granny’s dining room. None of the old high polish and grandeur of the old Boulez. The cookbooks adorning the wall of the barn-like space are lovely but seem as though they were thrown in willy nilly. The well meaning coat checker was busy with something else so we stood in limbo between the front door and Chef Boulez who had been accosted by a gaggle of tittering Chinese ladies. We barely got a glance from him as we finally squeezed through. Then, no official greeting (it seems there is no Maitre d’ Hotel) from anyone. We stood awkwardly waiting for ten minutes for a table despite several suited gentleman officially prowling the room. Things got better. The prix fixe was a good deal for a six course dinner. That it ran from 9-12 was not surprising but slightly irritating, A as I was guaranteed when I made my reservation that we would leave in time to catch a midnight mass. We were treated well and in a professional manner. The food, our reason for being there, was excellent in every way. The portions are perfect, the attention to detail, phenomenal, the tastes, surprising and good. Two pet peeves: the white light board above the kitchen emits a harsh glare and casts an un homey light on the dining room and the kitchy screens and old fashioned heavy furniture. Should you go, ask you a seat by the kitchen.

A perfect treat

By Traveler260 |

We loved the original Bouley and were sad to see it go but I can honestly say Bouley at home was just as good!! We opted to sit at the “bar” area and watch the chefs prepare our courses, they enjoyed our questions and we enjoyed the experience! Our captain Sylvain Panet-Raymond was exceptional and explained all our wines thoroughly! We will definitely dine here again!!

Excellent Lunch Tasting Menu

By hms917 |

Having been to classic Bouley years ago in Tribeca, wanted to try the concept of bar seating in front of chefs at Bouley’s Flatiron neighborhood restaurant. We went to a Saturday lunch there and got seating at the bar which I highly recommend. You can choose either a la carte or a tasting menu from which can choose among appetizers, main, desserts, etc. We did the tasting menu. You can also see some dishes being prepared so have an idea of what it looks like and can even ask the chef about a dish. We throughly enjoyed the interesting and satisfying dishes. We did not get the foragers mushroom but seemed like the most popular one. I highly recommend visiting for the food. After the meal, they give out little pound cakes with promotional material. Some caveats though. Service was good overall but spotty at times: had to ask for utensils until I was told it was in the drawer under the table (heard the person next to us ask also). Tea and coffee came out late after almost done with dessert - and the tea was poured into a small tea cup then pot taken away. Took awhile to get the check processed. There was a 20% tip already included - so pre-determined you cannot tip below that.

Don’t miss lunch time at Bouley !

By Benjamin-traveler |

Lunch time at Bouley. I am upgrading my reviews to 5 stars from 4 stars last time I dined here. $75 lunch tasting menu. - sea urchin appetizer. To die for. - porcini flan not to be missed. - we were treated to an additional dish: white aspargus with cheese sauce. - lobster main. Great choice. - amaretto ice cream. - meringue or chocolate cake for dessert. Both are fantastic. - complimentary from the chef: walnut “wedding anniversary” cake. Thanks! Not the cheapest lunch :) but given food quality, cooking execution and service, 100% worth the visit.

Good lunch menu

By Camille K |

I really enjoyed the $75 lunch menu with 5 courses: you have 2-5 choices per course and get a really good overview of Bouley’s cuisine. Portions are generous and staff is friendly

a promotion of Bouley; videos everywhere; at least that weren't TV broadcast of sporting events. Be prepared to wait for your table, perhaps half an hour.

A Disappointing Dinner

By NewJerseyWanderlust |

It all started out very well when making a reservation. The staff couldn’t have been nicer from the first call to changing the time of our reservation the day of our dinner. I was grateful that there wasn’t an event, as we would not have been comfortable sitting at the counter in another room which I noticed coming in to the restaurant. We entered the main dining room, a large space with very high ceilings and various attractive huge fish, some works of art, hanging from above. However, the focus of the dining room was the open kitchen with huge copper pots looking down at the chefs busy at work below. The tables that were spaced apart to give privacy to conversation were simple. Crisp white tablecloths had lovely small flower arrangements on them. However, it was disappointing to see several forks pitted, I asked to have them replaced. Our second disappointment was the wine selection. With a fairly small variety, they were out of the white chosen by our friend, a wine connoisseur. The sommelier suggested another, and then brought it over for a taste approval saying he’d have to chill it further.. I had him pour some for me while the others drank aperitifs and couldn't believe I had to add an ice cube to this semi-warm glass. Why was it even suggested if not chilled properly? The food was not memorable. Booked as a 7-course dinner, our first course was nothing more than an amuse bouche, Three rice crackers with a morsel of ham on one, a black truffle on the other, and the third something unrecognizable.. Although tasty, any other fine restaurant would just serve it as a surprise without considering it a course. Next we were presented with an delicious oyster, a small piece of sea urchin in a foam, and a piece of langoustine in an avocado mousse. From here we had choices. I selected a crab dish that I thought came in a flan. Actually it was a small bowl that had pieces of crab in what I thought was a soup topped with a minced truffle that was very good. The chef then sent a complimentary piece of skate with some greens. I selected the lamb for the next course. It turned out to be two very small pieces prepared well but on a plate with no presentation. Following was a cantaloupe soup with a scoop of sorbet with little flavor. Next I had an apple dessert served three ways. I couldn't believe that it, too, was nothing special and the presentation was lacking. Remembering we were to get petit fours, we were brought 5 pieces of chocolate candies all different. How were four of us to share such a final course? Service was lacking. Although a delightful young lady was sure to keep our water glasses full, we had to keep looking for our server for more wine. Did he not realize that the more we ordered, the larger the bill, hence, a bigger tip? All this for $195 per person. Our bill was $1,500 for four people including 2 glasses of beer, a glass of champagne, and 2 bottles of wine. Was this the David Bouley of yesteryear that always served the best of the best. I went home with plenty of room for more food! It was insulting to receive one small muffin per couple upon leaving the restaurant. I think they could have spared a second. Nevertheless, they say that parting is such sweet sorrow. I don't think so! We shall not be returning.

A delightful expereince

By Taryn G |

Many years ago I got to experience the original Bouley tasting lunch and while this tasting is great, it is slightly less great than the original Bouley. However, the value of the tasting lunch is remarkable. You get 5 delicious courses for $59! I began with the eggplant terrine. While I wish it was a little warmer, the goat cheese on top really made this dish. My dining companion got the sea urchin and spoke highly of this course. Then I moved on to the Wild Alaskan salmon rosti. This was my favorite dish of the day. The salmon was perfectly cooked and the lemony sauce on top which was doused in caviar was delightful and refreshing. The salmon also sat upon crisp potatoes and the whole meal came together in perfect harmony. The third course was organic Long Island duck. When I first tasted the meat my reaction was that it was perfectly cooked but lacking a little something, acidity maybe. However, when I ate the duck with a small slice of the Pruneaux D’Agen (prune) on the side, that's when the dish really came together. The sides were great on this dish. I loved the creamy polenta. If you like duck, I'd recommend this. It was one of the most perfectly cooked ducks I have ever eaten. There is no option for course four, everyone is given the Pineapple Granité. This also has coconut in it, which traditionally I consider a food ruiner. However, the coconut was well balanced with the pinapple and it tasted like a pina colada. Yum. Finally, I went with the chocolate for dessert. The cake was a lava cake and was decadent and tasty. The waiter also put a few little chocolates on the table. All in all this was a marvous experience and for the price you can't beat it. If you are in New York and want a great lunch experience, I'd highly suggest a visit to Bouley at home.

One of my favorite places to eat

The food is behind anything I ever have had The stuff are friendly This is without a doubt a great place to eat and enjoy a day

Where do I even start?! ... This place is amazing!

By Samantha S |

The food is of course incredible. I have now tried the a la carte menu and both the lunch and dinner tasting menu - the lunch pre-fixe is the best deal in town! To make the experience even more delightful, the staff is so attentive and really makes your time spent at the restaurant that much more enjoyable. Added perk - being able to see the chefs cooking! Last but not least, the wine list is impeccable. Not only does the restaurant provide so many different options, they also offer a selection in all price ranges. Oh, and there's a Master Sommelier on hand. Everything about this restaurant is perfect. GO NOW!

Incredible Dining Experience!

By Alexander W |

I have now had the distinct pleasure of dining at Bouley at Home three times since it opened. Each visit, I ordered the tasting menu and have been absolutely blown away every time. The food is simply incredible and the thoughtfulness that goes into the progression of the courses is unparalleled. In addition to the outstanding food, what truly takes this restaurant over the top is the service. I highly recommend sitting up at the bar where you can observe and interact with the amazing chefs who are preparing the food. Using equipment that you could find in any residential kitchen, the chefs prepare world class food right before your eyes. Each course is then presented and described with precise detail as it is served. It is a must for any foodie who also loves to cook at home. Lastly, if you are a fan of wine, the selection at Bouley at Home is second to none. I put myself in the hands of the incredible sommeliers and they constructed a wine pairing for the tasting menu that perfectly complemented and elevated each dish. For the most enjoyable, delicious, and interactively educational meal in NYC, I cannot recommend Bouley at Home enough!

Elegant and eclectic.

We met a friend here for lunch, and had a very memorable meal. The service is impeccable. The tasting menu was varied and quite unique. Flavorful, perfect sized portions. The pace of the meal was very relaxed and informal in a very eclectic setting. Definitely worth a visit.

Awful food poisning with total disregard of the restaurant

By Iris F |

We ate there to celebrate our engagement very excited to taste and feel the bouley experience... Little did we know that a Michelin star would ruin our vacation... I wrote to the restaurant left a message to understand what went wrong... But no one has replied

Great place

By muniragaripulina |

I was not expecting to have the greatest time here. I felt like the place was too open and it did not have the right kind of feel for me. I thought the food would not be that good and I thought I would have to pick something up on the way home. I was wrong on every count because right when I sat down I felt welcomed. I liked the people working here a lot. They were all a great team. I was excited to sit down and enjoy the food. The food was not a let down either. I had some of the sushi and it was really good. I was not even a fan of sushi before I came here and now I am.

Sophisticated and great!

By Watson T |

My girlfriend and I went to Bouley at Home last night and had a truly amazing experience. It was probably the most expensive meal I have ever had, but it was worth it for a once a year type of meal. We each had a 7 course meal that was 195 per person. The staff was over the top accommodating and kind. We met the owner of the restaurant Mr. Bouley and he started us sending us extra food as a gift. Everything we had was truly amazing and over the top authentic French cuisine. Some of the food was really sophisticated and a little over the top for my less developed palette but still very interesting and entertaining. One example of this was the asparagus ice cream which me and my gf both loved.

Fabulous Experience!

Went for a private event. Setting was lovely, food and ambiance was fantastic. Still remember with detail the dishes and amazing mille feuille dessert!

Good food, wine overpriced and not that good

By DifromBrisbane |

My companion and I had the 5 course tasting lunch. The food was good but not exceptional and provided an interesting range of flavours. For the first course I had the sea urchin while my companion had the oysters and for our second course he had the fish of day which was skate while I had a calamari salad and for the main course I had the duck breast and he had the chicken liver ravioli. The meal was let down somewhat by the wine which at $95 for a bottle of red from Bordeaux is overpriced for the lack of quality. To be fair we did try 3 different ones before we settled on one that tasted less than like paint stripper which says as much about the others we tried. The service was attentive but inconsistent, on one hand we were constantly asked if everything was ok and then when we asked for some bread we there was just indifference.

Not there yet.

By brownboynyc |

I really wish I could say this was an amazing experience, but it wasn't. Nothing in the food was worth a revisit, including their self proclaimed classics. The venison I chose was fine, and that's the problem. Nothing made me step back and go...this is something I can't get somewhere else. We sat in the kitchen area for the unpretentious feel. But the neverending videos of recipes prep was a bit tedious and drove way too much light to the exposed pipes. On a plus side, the restauranteur, or host, who greeted us and helped us out was generous and on point. I hope he reads this and pivots as the ingredients are there. Just focus on the food. But they just need to tweak and tighten.

Amazing dining experience!

By Nate |

Bouley at Home has VERY good food! Everything is good and there are many varied options! The staff is nice. A nice touch is that at the end of the meal, the waiters bring out a tray of complimentary chocolates for tasting. It is a nice atmosphere to watch the chefs cook and is in a very convenient location. Great experience!

Great service , OK food

By foodie1440 |

I wanted to love this restaurant I really did... as soon as you get in the ambience is amazing. It feels like a dinning room at home but opulent. We went for lunch and got the 4 course. The wine selection is great. The presentation is beautiful but flavor wise we weren’t impressed. The appetizers were better than entres. The most disappointing was the duck which was almost row. The sorbet they serve as a cleanse palate was very sweet like ice cream. The chocolate desert was a lava cake and was good. The service is outstanding. At the door we were given sort of a lemon pound cake to take home. When I tried it it was really dry. I wish the food was as good as the service and ambience.

Great Ambiance but...

By Rob F |

The food didn’t match the service which was similar to another review I saw earlier. The appetizers were very tasty but not much more than that. I made the mistake of ordering the Kobe beef special with a $75 supplemental fee and that was a travesty. They served 5 dime sized slices of beef which I wouldn’t have minded if the flavor was worth it but alas it was all show. Never again will I dine here.

Once again a fine dining experience - even at lunch

By ehmtl |

We always go back. The menu changes and two of our favourites are no longer on the list but everything was so good it didn't matter. Kobe beef cheeks in different form but still delicious. Shrimp was great.

Missing a few pieces...

By JoeV |

The food was good but much of the evening was disjointed. For example, why would there be a single gin, i.e. Hendicks to offer? I have 3 options at home! Why would the martini be served in a all purpose wine glass? Why was there so much uncertainty about the wines on the list, i.e. whether they were available? If the set menu says tuna tartar why was beef tartar served? Other misses included the entree was dropped before the table was marked; the server just grabbed the flatware from an adjacent table-very smooth; the fish of the day was first said to be sea bass and then it changed to skate moments before it was ready to be served; and when asked if they had any cognac or port available the choices were exceedingly slim. Maybe that is the "theme" of this restaurant-do with whatever you have-but if I have more choices at home that is a concern and actually disappointing.

Epicurean Perfection

Superb fooding experience at Chef David Bouley. French American native, Bouley has put in place an educational program on nutritional values paired with his culinary offering in Bouley at Home on 21st Street. Chef David Bouley is a disciple of culinary art, health, and nutrition, and you can feel and taste in his fine dining cuisine that he succeeds in the combination of tasty and healthy. Perfect epicurean measure in my eyes combined with an unforgettable live culinary experience. A Michelin-starred restaurant without any pretentiousness. Loved it. Hats off to his pastry chef Etienne Le Bastard for his ice cream innovations and deserts Have you ever tasted Asparagus Ice cream??? Delicious!

Relaxed Perfection!

By Mark S |

Bouley at Home is another example of David Bouley's long standing ability to create a warm & welcoming space that immediately puts you at ease when you enter and then blows you away with sublime cuisine. Each dish that we had for lunch was delicious and beautifully presented including the amuse bouches. Just one example is the Eggplant Terrine-it will leave you wanting second's! The service was friendly & relaxed but very professional and they have an extensive wine list. A very special restaurant indeed!! We can't wait to return-for dinner next time!

What a wonderful experience

Avarice on display at Bouley

My wife and I had planned and were certainly looking forward to being wowed by a New Year’s Eve festival meal at Bouley at Home. We were utterly disappointed. This meal was advertised as 7-Courses but in fact was miserly and meager in portions and, counting a non-spectacular amuse bouches and the chocolates smorgasbord finale, more like a 5-course meal. We started with the malibu sea urchins and osetra caviar, with the citrusy green apple cloud which was certainly tasty. We followed up with the venison and elk combo, two small strips under red wine reduction sauce. One of the servers unceremoniously dumped a small side dish of very plain mashed potatoes. The main course had something white which looked and tasted identical to the mashed potatoes. There was not a vegetable or green garnish to be found. No broccoli or any legume whatsoever. The cocktails were adequate but not spectacular. The wine list contained a limited assortment of wines under $200 with a markup of between 3 to 4 times their retail value. The first two or three such wines we attempted to order were not available/sold out we were told. We then ordered a $120 bottle of 2013 Chateau-Neuf du Pape Rhone red wine which was so unspectacular and plebian that we returned it. We ordered Malbec by the glass which came after the 2nd course. The bread was not to be had until requested and then was available à gogo with Normandy butter. We followed this with a canteloupe soup with sheep’s milk and yoghurt sorbet which was refreshing but otherwise un-memorable. The service was peremptory with help one suspects was acquired for the evening’s New Year clientele. Questions went unanswered as they were probably not understood. The desert of apple surprise was novel but unremarkable. My wife got a raspberry creme concoction that was pleasantly prepared. My assessment is that the meal was very heavy on carbohydrates, little protein, no legumes or vegetables. For the small fortune we paid, we would have expected much better value and a more nutritiously-balanced repast. I felt like we had been victims of a white-collar crime perpetrated by a chef who ought know better, and who should be doing better by and for his intended clientele. For the short-term profit-gain and quality of ingredients offered in the menu, vastly over-priced, you would do well to get a reservation at 11 Madison Park or Per Se. Or eat at home. By the way, they took ten minutes to find my umbrella with my claim ticket and even cabbing it I missed my train home. A bummer of an evening. And because I was so hungry from their non-existent sustenance-building, protein-deficient meal, I snacked upon arriving home! Unheard of under normal circumstances after paying exorbitant prices for such a dining experience. Utterly disappointing. Stay away.

Eclectic decor, upscale experience.

So happy to have made this reservation on a holiday weekend. While I assume they do a fantastic dinner menu, we find that elaborate tasting menus are better suited to lunch time, and Bouley At Home did not disappoint. The menu choices are extensive. The bread selection featured 6 different breads with soft salted French butter. While the lemon bread was the least good, the olive and garlic breads were fantastic. Their printed cocktail selection is limited but they can drum up almost anything you'd like. The Amuse bouche of a delicious cracker with cheese and truffle, and melon gazpacho was outstanding. We knew this was going to be a good meal! Next came the Malibu Sea Urchin with green apple foam and caviar, and a surprising twist of yuzu. This was the standout dish of the menu. The next course of Black truffle and crab flan was watery and unformed. I was so surprised about the consistency because the ingredient list assured a stellar dish. Main courses of Beef cheeks with kale gnocchi turned out to taste less exotic than I would have expected. The gnocchi were gluten free which I suspect contributed to a bland taste. The Duck was subtly flavored. I would have preferred a bolder flavor, but that's my palette! Amaretto ice cream was excellent. My husband reports that the "chocolate frivolous" was outstanding. My dessert choice of a raspberry salad/tart thingy was quite sour and I could not finish it. All in all, thumbs up to the bread, wine selection, desserts and the sea urchin dish. For a high end and experimental food experience this was incredibly reasonably priced. The bill includes gratuity.

If only I could eat like this every day

My partner had dined at the original bouley several years ago and it has always been one of most favourite dining experiences. We were disappointed to find the original had closed on a recent trip to nyc but bouley at Home hat opened. We went for lunch - welcome was warm, service was friendly, informative and professional but the food was fabulous! We had the $59 five course lunch which is a steal - the food is classic in many way but with an Asian twist. Wine pairings by the glass add an extra dimension. Stand out dished for me were the truffled crab with really meaty chunks of crab, the Kobe bed cheeks with gnocchi - perfect on a winters day and the amazing chocolate desert with richness and texture combination that brought a broad smile to the face of a chocoholic. We sat at the bar where you can watch the chefs at work but the classically furnished dining room looked good too. Not cheap but fantastic value and if you enjoy good food treat yourself. Highly recommended

Desire, Humble Decadence

By Tana A |

I was at Bouley Test Kitchen to celebrate a dear friends birthday. Happily when we entered the foyer we were greeted with the scent of Bouley’s signature Apple display and a glass of champagne- From a distance I could see slides of my friend’s last 50 years crossing the movie sized screen - it was a beautiful night, the chefs prepared our meal in an open kitchen - unique in that we could stand by the stove and just chat with each chef- a multi cultural crew confident enough to connect while topping a kuzu chip with truffles. The chef made an engaging speech about heath and each dish we had was based on “servicing the body”. Our half a century bods left blissful- I would recommend this room, the command of the chefs and service to anyone looking to just be: celebrate each other.

Still exciting after all these years

By RonWamberal |

Have loved Bouley since the 90's and it is still my favourite go-to restaurant in New York. If anything, the relaxed atmosphere of W 21st street is more enjoyable than the formality of Duane Street which we enjoyed so many times. Although it is a month since I dined here, I revisited the menu and photographs as I started this review and have regained the excitement I felt then. Described as a tasting menu of 5 small dishes, they are actually quite substantial ; if anything the bigger challenge with such a diverse and well balanced menu is having to choose between options. Had the Maine Lobster but could easily have enjoyed the Organic Long Island Duck. But to imagine, I also had an eggplant terrine, Foragers wild mushroom, Pineapple Granite and Le Vacherine meringue, all wonderful and generous servings and amazing value for only $75. An added bonus was meeting Chef David in his experimental kitchen - have always admired and respected his innovative approach to food but discussing his approach with him personally showed clearly the intellect needed to conceptualise and deliver such quality.

Yes! Dine with Bouley at Home

By Kristin1229 |

While traveling especially in big cities, I always plan to try at least one Michelin star-rated restaurant. During my last trip to NYC, went to Bouley for lunch on Saturday before touring the 911 Museum. We opted for the Chef's Tasting Menu and Wine Pairings. Everything was perfect! Highly recommend. Our reservations were for 12:00 pm. It was a 2-hour culinary experience. Afterward, we headed to the 911 Museum where we burned off some of the extra calories by taking a 3-hour tour. ;-)

Loved it!

By Adotutu |

want to share the love of food with a friend? there is no better way to do it than to have lunch here. share, enjoy the food, have the wine pairing, ask how it's done, try to discover the ingredients. you have the chef in front of you cooking for you. just incredible, thank you Chef Danny, and all the staff for one of the best lunches of my life.

Expectations Exceeded Beyond

By Tana A |

I’m not sure I can write a review that does justice- but in my last 20 years of dining in NYC, Bouley has been my go to place- it’s always felt like an actual home at each one of the Chef’s locations- and this time, to create a space called ‘Bouley at Home’ couldn’t be more perfect. Chef Bouley has always been the wizard to me! And this location allows you to see behind the curtain. I have been fortunate to dine at Bouley in TriBeCa often - but never ventured into the kitchen. I used to press my nose into the glass to watch the action of the Kitchen from the street view, always a stillness and a sense of focus. From this POV the sound was off - suddenly at Bouley at Home, the sound is ON, volume on health, sharing information with a sense real purpose- you leave not only with a warm belly (Organic Quail Egg, Comte Cloud, Torino White Truffles...Rotisserie Duck) but with a sense of wanting to form a culinary community to change the world. Behind the curtain I met cooks who never met me in person- but know what I loved to eat and can’t eat, from my past experiences at Bouley- (the same with the wine, this is core dream team of Bouley- with Bouley running the show) -now I know their faces, watch how they create magical flavors and celebrate their energy to plate and plate again -this is not just an open kitchen - it’s a place of friendships, food and an experience.

One of NY finest still delivers..

By Food T |

After many years grinding in NY, Bouley still delivers in a quite different way than many others. Now where everyone is using and abusing acids and strong flavors, he dont. He still using sublime not overpowering flavor. From the Fish Piperade manner to the Lobster, Duck, Sea Urchin in Apple Cloud. All of them flavorful but not agressive in the mouth at all, you just notice the ingredients they way he seems to intend you to do so. A quick grind would come out of your face when you start tasting. Im glad he still at it.

Good but not friendly!

By IrishPat210 |

We went to Bouley expecting "top-notch" service and attentiveness----this was not the case for a dinner that cost over $1600 for 4 people!!! We all got the tasting menu with wine pairings--the food was delicious but the wine pairing were quite skimpy. We assumed our glasses would be filled throughout the meal which was not the case. Then Mr. Bouley came out to greet the few diners that were there but never even glanced at us----guess we were not important enough for a "hello"! A pity tho, because two of the diners were top people in their industry with many clients who are always looking for a great place to dine. Maybe next time, attention should be paid to all diners in the restaurant.

Great ambience, great food

By Craig Calhoun |

Bouley at Home is styled to look like a home living and dining room opening onto a kitchen. It’s funky, and pleasant, and well-suited to a neighbourhood long associated with stores selling tile and plumbing fixtures. It is also delightful. The setting is quiet and wonderful for conversation - a plus for my last visit which involved the 87th birthday celebration of a dear friend. It’s not everywhere that a large table can carry on a single conversation with no one straining. Then there’s the food which (not surprisingly for Bouley) is absolutely terrific. It’s not he culinary cutting edge, but it’s not too far from it. The quality of every dish was excellent. The wine list was also first rate. That brings up service because we got good advice on the wine. It was flawless, with a good balance of attention to our needs and let us enjoy our party without being pestered. The meal was expensive and worth every penny.

Birthday party for my husband; table wasn't ready for half an hour, then service, which was excellent, was slow, slow, slow. We were accustomed to the Tribeca restaurant, which was a culinary, elegant, experience. This was a promotion of some kind. Not our favorite experience.

Beautiful meal and space

By USCKaboom |

Love the new space for one of New York’s most talented chefs. Came for a birthday dinner. The restaurant is mostly bar seating and very white. Fun concept. We opted for the tasting menu. Not cheap but a lot of food without being too much so. They were accommodating of food restrictions. Overall was excellent. I didn’t care for the Wagyu millefeuille but everything else was delicious. Including the wonderful desserts and lots of chocolate. Service is very good. The staff is friendly. And the chefs in front of you are engaging. Pricey but worth the splurge.

Christmas Prix Fixe Dinner!

By SandN855 |

Christmas Prix Fixe Dinner! Each course expertly prepared in a very relaxing atmosphere. Our table was located close to the open kitchen. We were able to watch Chef David and his very professional staff prepare dishes for a packed house. It was a rare gift. Over the years we had eaten at Bouley because of the exceptional dining experience... this new experience was the same. We look forward to the next Bouley adventure.

Remarkable experience

By PvM1 |

Bouley used to be down in the Tribeca area. It was a pleasant surprise since the new location is at least for us, more practical. The restaurant is divided in two main rooms, one a regular restaurant room with tables etc and the other side is an open kitchen where you sit at the counter and watch your food being prepared. The lunch menu allows you to choose a four course meal and you run into the dilemma of what to eat. All plates are prepared to perfection under the watch of Daniel Chavez the executive Chef. The wine selection is reduced compared with the original restaurant but the sommelier explain us that they brought part of their wines from their old place since the storage is limited at this new location. Despite that, you will find exquisite wines in all price ranges. All and all, this was a great lunch and is a very repeatable since there are other options in the menu that we would like to try.

Anniversary Dinner oh so Special

By Marie P |

Bouley at Home is next to the Bouley Test Kitchen, which primarily hosts special events. Bouley at Home is a well-lit, intimate but busy, space. Several tables for two line one wall (perfect for romantic dinners). Two counters also accommodate diners, (where one can chat with a friend or two, and/or watch the chefs-perhaps even converse with them. After my husband was extremely pleased with his first dinner at Bouley at Home, he rushed to reserve a table for us to celebrate our 35th wedding anniversary. We ordered the 7 course tasting menu. Don't be fooled by the number of courses. The portions were perfectly sized for flavor and texture, and one should not feel overly stuffed-just pleasantly satisfied. This is definitely fine-dining, just right for a special day. The service and servers were exemplary. Each bite of food was an exquisite pleasure. We will definitely return for more dinners.

One of the best rest in new york

By venedom |

Once again bouley’s has reach the top. These new restaurant in flatiron is an experience. Either the degustation or a la carte is well worth. If you at night be asked to be seated in the “kitchen” tables. You will have an incredible experience. It’s expensive but with it.

Chef's still got it

By John D |

Chef Bouley still maintains his excellent sense about food pairing and how to set a wonderful tone in his spaces. We went for a midday lunch and the tasting menu was just great. The space is super relaxing and open. It sets just the right tone. The value, for a great lunch in Manhattan, can hardly be beaten. Would be a great place for a business lunch if you were trying to impress someone or a romantic dinner. And certainly a place where spotting the rich and famous is likely. Would higly recommend and will be back next time I am in the city.

Ethereal Dining

By Ina60763 |

Here's how you feel when you walk into Bouley at Home: A bit disoriented. You are expecting a traditional restaurant. Bouley is anything but. It's a working kitchen, more like a lab, with 3 counters/cooking stations, 24 seats and almost as many chefs and staff busily, and calmly, preparing your meal before your eyes and serving. The courses are a suite of delicate flavours, textures, and colors. A ginkgo leaf under a small glass ramekin of red caviar. Translucent sushi with a dab of wasabi freshly ground on a small paddle covered with bumpy sharkskin. When chef is not cutting perfectly aged cheese or causally whisking spirulina into a sauce, he's circulating, ready answer any question you care to ask. Even the make of his great plaid shirt (Etro). His favourite topic: how food can benefit your health. He's on a mission.

Amazing! Food, Friendliness, and FUN

By Zaza H |

A solo diner, I sat at the bar area for the pre theater meal. If you seek extraordinary food and service THIS IS THE PLACE. I photoed collaboration between chefs and experienced the congeniality of Captain Naoufal. I am a longtime fan of Bouley. Again he exceeds my expectations.

Best moments of my life

It was one of the most wonderful restaurants I've been to, I chose the chef's menu, this chef passed away last week....I felt very sad to hear about his passing...it was before 2023...but there's no year here which I went....so I put 2023..

A very delightful lunch

By 248vivianb |

We had the Tasting Menu Luncheon with dear friends. It was all fantastic, the food, the service and the setting. Extra courses kept arriving with the grand finale, after the dessert, of chocolates. Great wines and incredible food. A great experience and very leisurely.

A far cry from the original Bouley

By Rebecca S |

Came here for a birthday celebration with my brother after having visited 5 years ago at the original location and being blown away by the service, food, presentation and value. We had done the lunch menu before and decided we would do it again because it was so fantastic. When we walked in you could tell the place had some unique charm, but was missing the grandeur of the old restaurant. Immediately we noticed how cold it was - guests were wearing jackets, but no one made any mention of this. Even people in the open kitchen were wearing winter hats! I was hoping this would be a non issue, but it only seemed to get colder as the meal went on and did truly take away from the experience. The food itself was solid, but was missing the flair we had experienced previously. Portions were small, but appropriate. The ny strip and lobster were a bit oversauced to the point we couldn’t tell if the meat had been properly cooked. While we were seated David came over to the table next to us and said hello and clearly this was a VIP because he said they would get them champagne and make whatever they wanted. It was very cool seeing David up close, but that wore off as he went to the table on the other side of us (tables are close together!) and said hello to a couple and also got them champagne. We began to feel a bit out of place and left out. Our dessert dishes took about 15mins to clear and at no one was a birthday mentioned despite 2 confirmations of the special occasion. Coffee also was not offered until dessert was cleared and would have been niced to ask before dessert came out. Overall, still a good value for the quality of food you get, but a noticeable step down in service from our last visit. This was our go to for a fancy lunch celebration, but I think we will try somewhere else next time.

A Fabulous Flavor Adventure

By CBAontheWay |

My *foodie* relative who lives in Manhattan booked us a table here for a mid-afternoon family celebration, and what a feast we had! Each dish I chose was truly a flavor adventure. I also appreciated that the fun little bread cart had interesting gluten-free options to enjoy. Our team of servers were kind and knowledgeable, and our dining courses were perfectly paced. What a lovely afternoon we had with Bouley at Home!

Amazing and different tasting menu experience

By Sus2505 |

So we had booked a table at Bouley at Home for our wedding anniversary at the recommendation of a friend - she raved about the whole experience and I can only say that it lived up to the hype. We were seated by one of the counters near the chef who was preparing the starters - super nice guy called Jasper who was happy to share info and knowledge. Mr Bouley also came round to say hello and we had a great conversation with him around the concept of the restaurant. We opted for the 7 course tasting menu with wine paring and it was worth it - amazing flavours, colours and generally so well made. The wine paring was great and worked perfectly. This is in our top 5 dining experiences :-)

Bouley Disappointment!

By KMB Chester Springs |

Wow were we disappointed. I had heard such great things about Bouley at Home and we were amazingly disappointed. The atmosphere was beautiful and we assumed that the food and service would be as well. We were seated, not sure who our waiter was for an hour. We had two glasses of champagne which were served in wine glasses. I thought it was something new ... only to learn that they messed up! How can you make a mistake like that when the Tasting menu was $200/person. Which brings me up to the fact that they only gave us that menu. I did not realize you could order a la carte until we had already ordered. They pushed us into that menu and did not tell us any options. They did not serve us the first course. They moved right into the second course. I had to get a manager to get us our first course. Unbelievable. The food was very unusual and honestly not very tasty. We ended up leaving before we received all of the courses. The service was poor and SO SLOW. We left the restaurant spending $1000 and completely disappointed. No sommelier. The best part of our dinner was the wine. Never to return. Completely overpriced and way over snobby! DON'T GO! So many amazing options in NYC! Treat yourself someplace else!

Great watching artists cook and create, sommelier an imposter

By Hands O |

This meal was the absolute highlight of our trip to the Big Apple. We had dined at Bouley before on a different trip so the anticipation was palpable. The food was magnificent and it was a real treat to talk to the creators and engage in conversation about what might be in the sauce and so on. Many courses and taste delights with our personal favourite being the sea urchin with green apple cloud and golden caviar. I can still taste it in my dreams. The porcini flan, the lamb with mint infused bamboo shoots and the Kobe beef? All superb! The lady making the desserts was a magician on the night and for once we almost finished all the desserts. The only down side in a real treat was the sommelier. French it seems by accent and posture but clueless regarding wine. We opted, and paid $125 dollars each for the wine pairing. A blend is poured with great ceremony. For foodies and wine enthusiasts a legitimate question to the sommelier is “ what cultivars are in the blend?”. He could not answer and disappeared to find out. A ‘wishy washy’ explanation followed but then, when one might expect the same question posed when another blend is served, there was no attempt to preempt and say “I knew you might ask so I can tell you .......”. That was the only disappointment in an enchanting evening and a superb meal.

Concept doesn't work... miss the old Bouley

By maryanne007newyork |

Completely agree with the review below. Either do a chef's table or don't. The station concept is just a finishing table and the chefs' dont really interact with you, so what is the point of sitting on uncomfortable stools serving your own silverware? Also the food did not live up to the quality of the old Bouley. The bread and cold butter...sigh, the bread cart at the old Bouley was one of the best things. The ambiance is also not that great, its a pretty barren room with little decor, instead you see pipes, indoor ACs, etc. The old Bouley had such character. I miss the fancy china also... Overall, not worth the $1000+ we paid for dinner for two.

Run do not walk

By wmjberry |

Went last night - you should go as soon as possible. It's a different take on a high-end tasting menu. Fabulous food - many plates - but a focus on healthy options and very interactive. You can talk about the food, ask questions, try new things, watch cooking videos (which seems odd but works well and is not intrusive but a nice diversion). There were only six people at our table, so we got lots of attention - for much of the evening David Bouley was preparing food and serving us himself. They brought out a special blue cheese for us to try just for fun. He even gave us a book about healthy eating with his own notes about foods we should try. His focus has a new-age angle that is interesting. The reason I say rush to get there is that they are still learning and trying things out - and that made the experience even better. For example, the place was a bit smokey when we arrived - they are still figuring out the appliances! And they all seem very eager to engage with the diners. Once it becomes more of a process he might not be there as much and it might be a bit less exciting/impromptu - though it will still be great. And if the reviews are great you'll never get in. Only 24 seats - go now!

The most creative dining experiences in NYC

By Brian L |

What can I say, when David Bouley decided to think outside the box, he most certainly hit it outside of the park. To have you sit right in front of the chefs that are making you dinner in an ambiance where you can have a dialogue with them, just as you would have with a friend of yours across the table, is certainly like a chefs table for every seat in the house. Normally you have to pay in excess of $500 per head to sit at a chef's table, and at some like restaurants Gunter Seeger, you don't even get to interact with the chefs. Here, you can ask them about cooking techniques, timing, produce, etc. and on occasion you get to have the man (David Bouley) who's name is on the restaurant cook in front of you or deliver food to you. Certainly one of the most creative, interactive, and immersive dining experience that you can find anywhere. Oh, and by the way, the food rocks!

Eat and learn, nice fine dining experience

By apoarenas |

The food is very good and has excellent presentation. The lunch tasting meal is a very good deal. I sat at the bar so I can watch the cook prepare the dishes so I also get cooking tips. It was a nice fine dining experience but in a sort of casual way so it did not feel stiff and snobbish.

Amazing experience

By GN. |

Took the 3 course menu with crap soup, lobster and chocolate soufle for lunch. Been there twice this trip and it’s beyond phenomenal.

Wow

By Val R |

We had the pre-theatre fixed price menu. Everything was fabulous with an intricate mix of tastes and textures for each course. Sat at the bar and watched our various items being prepared with a real sense of artistry. Special treat was having an extended conversation with the chef. Will definitely go back but next time we’ll order from the more extensive fixed price menu and not book a play so we can savour every bite to the fullest. Service was spot on.

Disappointed with the service.

By Nicky I |

Had a very bizarre experience here. The food was good but the service was not what it should be in a restaurant of this calibre. I’d previously had dinner at ‘Bouley’ in TriBeCa and had really good memories of the meal and this was the reason I booked this restaurant for my 10th wedding anniversary. It took 15mins for someone to take a drink order, 30mins to take a food order and almost an hour before the amuse bouche arrived. Throughout the evening I watched the front of house team look very disorganised, food was brought out and then realised that the cutlery hadn’t been set out. Pacing of the tasting menu was off. Expensive for so many errors.

WowWowWow

By ricopetro |

We are foodies and this was one of the great dinners of our lives. We were treated like old friends from the moment we arrived (late) till the moment we left (bearing chocolates, cake and a giant loaf of sourdough as gifts). I never liked monkfish, but their preparation was incredible. From beginning to end, the meal was masterful and the presentation astounding. A truly memorable anniversary dinner.

Will not return

By susanm8852 |

Food good but overall experience unacceptable. We were a party of 4 - one upholstered chair was so wet that it soak through one of our guests slacks. The Captain had an arrogant attitude even when we tried to engage her in conversation. She reviewed the menu with us and was told that one guest does not eat pork or shellfish (had also completed the on-line information about this ahead of time) and nonetheless she was served iberico ham, calamari with the halibut and specifically told the captain no calamari. Another had told the Captain he has an allergy to mangos and nonetheless was served hamachi with mango. We advised the M’aitre D’hui of this who was very apologetic and thankful but did nothing else to make it right except offer a glass of sauterne at 10:40 when we wanted to leave. Careless systems and people. For a 1000.00 meal this was an inferior experience.

Been here many times, this time was dissapointing

We have gone to Bouley for many years (20+) It has had several iterations during this time and we have always found the food great and the service stellar. We went on the 10th for lunch and the food wasn't up to par and the service was sketchy.Surprising and a little sad. we will be back gove the many years of wonderful food, and hope it improves

Brilliance With Every Bite

There are dishes that Chef David Bouley created that will forever resonate with my DNA. His signature dishes eggplant terrine, sea urchin with an apple foam, lobster with vanilla- so many flavors that meld and attach to each cell for bioavailability and pure health. I forever feel the crunch of the kuzu chip, and the flourless chocolate cake… beautiful cheeses from Rodolphe Le Monier- Bouley you are my forever chef!

Wonderful lunch

By USCKaboom |

We had friends in town and wanted to take them to a special lunch. We chose Bouley at Home which was offering a late lunch. The tasting menu was 3 or 5 courses. We opted for the latter with a bottle of wine. Everything was delicious. Service was impeccable. Timing was not too long or short between courses. The bread was a beautiful accompaniment to the dishes and they had 6 different offerings. The hall is also quite lovely though given the late hour it was empty.

Hands down the best chef tasting in NYC

By WellTraveledTipster |

If you want to eat cuisine made by a chef who loves food and understands perfect preparation, or if you want to know that your wine pairing is going to exceed your expectations because the sommelier is exquisite, come have a meal at Bouley at Home. Everything is so delicate and bold, and the way flavors are paired it’s truly unlike anywhere I’ve eaten. Will be back again and again. Thank you to all who went out of their way to make our meal such a delicious success!

Outstanding experience

By 409foodie |

From the moment you enter you are treated like royalty. The staff is wonderful, but the food is extraordinary. We went for lunch. It is a tasting menu. I had the oysters, Dungeness crab and lobster selections. For dessert I had the walnut cake..which was amazing. I can’t wait to return. They had two sides one side is counter seating and the other side is table seating. It is an open kitchen.

Nice idea that doesn't really work

By drron36 |

First, let me say that David Bouley is a god of the kitchen and we miss his original restaurant, which we thought was the best in the city. His new place is divided into Bouley at Home and Bouley Test Kitchen. Food is the same at both. We dined at the former with friends and can't comment on the latter. The idea is everyone is seated at bar table tops in front of cooking stations. It's meant to be an "immersive and educational community of health and nutrition." Flat screen tv's adorn the walls up high and play videos of various wonderful dishes being prepared. However, while some of our food lived up to the Bouley standards, some didn't. The treasury of wild mushrooms appetizer was superb and the salmon entree was divine; the skate entree was merely well prepared, and not particularly memorable. The chocolate frivolous and citrus vacherin desserts were very tasty, though not quite ethereal. Some of his signature dishes, such as the sea urchin with green apple cloud and caviar or the foie gras are available only on the $250 tasting menu. Service was attentive, but the setup was disorienting. There are three different stations around the room preparing seafood, meats or mushrooms, respectively. The chefs in front of you are not necessarily preparing anything for your meal personally. Nor is there much interaction, which renders the entire conceit fairly meaningless and even annoying, as it would be more pleasant to dine with one's companions at a proper table.

New Foody Heaven

David Bouley keeps raising the bar on perfect. But only if you prefer dining as high performance art, love to watch literally great cooks at work, find innovation thrilling, like to linger on each bite, can spare a whole evening and manage a hole in your pocket. Foody heaven! He uses local produce, post modern inventiveness, profound taste, all cooked directly in front of you. Once in a lifetime experience better than opera

A top notch experience
