What an original place! Tasty broth!

By betti14 |

I stumbled upon this place on my way to the PATH train station on Chrispother St. I was starving but really didnt want a high calorie meal or long wait. This place was perfect! I had to ask what they had, as it was a brand new concept that they served broth only! I got a chicken broth with sea salt. They serve it like coffee in a coffe cup to go - it was brilliant! I absolutely love soup so it was perfect and nice as the evening was getting cooler. I hope they open more! Enjoy.

Fantastic broth - inspired us to start making our own at home

We discovered Brodo on a recent trip to NYC. Once discovered, we ditched our daily hotel breakfast and bought ourselves a large cup of Brodo every morning - we even brought the cook book home and have been making our own ever since! Just delicious!

broth to go?! yes! try this!

Who knew that take out broth would be such a big hit? Marco Canora, and thereby Brodo, did! I had heard about this place opening recently and wanted to see what all this broth-rage was about. A tiny window opening on the side of 12th street and 1st ave is Brodo. Just a take out window (minus the drive through) for rich, flavorful broths served both hot and cold. The cold versions are served in large glass jars (which require a $2 deposit) and ready for you to schlep home for use whenever you wish. The hot versions are served in your choice of size - small (8 oz) medium (12 oz) or large (16 oz) - and range from $4 to $9. You also have the option to add in some delectable ingredients - such as fermented beet juice or grass fed bone marrow. In addition to their basic broths, Brodo offers 2 homemade soups - the chickarina (complete with chicken meatballs and escarole) and the ribolitta (a tuscan veggie soup with cannellini beans, parmesean, kale and bread). Soups are served in just 2 sizes - small (10 oz) for $7 or large (16 oz) for $8.50. This was my first time sampling the broths, so I wanted to try them plain. I had 4oz of each the "hearth" and "gingered grass fed beef". The hearth broth is made of chicken, turkey and beef and is more complex in flavor that you might think. I sipped it while walking in the frigid cold over to Union Square and it was like an easy, user-friendly version of having soup to go since it is served in a coffee-style cup. The beef broth was tremendous. The gingered element came through and elevated this broth to the next level. Definitely my favorite. Next time I come back, because I will certainly be back, I will go out on a limb and add the bone marrow. I am sure that combination will be over the top delicious and rich, I can't wait. I highly recommend swinging by here and grabbing a sample. Though initially when I heard about the "broth to go" concept, I cocked my head to the side and thought "huh?", I totally get it now that I've tried it. I suggest going on a brisk day, which there are plenty of right now, as the warming sensation the broths generate may be lost on us in the warmer months. Iced broth? Hmmm.....not sure I'm ready to go there just yet.

Perfect for exploring NYC on a chilly day

Brody is a dream come true. I don’t drink coffee and can only handle so much tea before I start getting a little crack so Brodo was the perfect place to grab a warm drink and explore. They had several broths to choose from and then you can add some other items to your broth, if you’d like. I got chicken bone broth wit sea salt cause I’m plain as hell and I loved it. This is going to be a required stop anytime I’m in NYC.

The real thing

Expensive, but delicious and cool concept

By Kait_De |

The title says most of it - this is an incredibly expensive treat ($7 for a cup the size of a small latte). Although a simple concept, drinking delicious, warm broth out of a cup on the go is a delight! Perfect way to stay warm and full while walking through the city on a rainy day. Tried the beef broth, curious to try other flavors! (ps they have a stand in Bryant Park).

Best Broth Ever

I have been wanting to try this place for a while. Let me tell you it was worth the trip. They have several locations - I went to the one on 75th Street and Broadway. I entered and the gentlemen working their were just so courteous, helpful and nice. They even offer a free sampling of the different broths they have. First taste, I'm hooked!!! I had the mushroom and seaweed mixed in with beef and spicy chilly sauce! OMG it was amazing and believe it, fills you up!! The place is impeccably clean. Love you guys, keep up the great work!!

Love this place. Love the options. Service is a bit brusque, but no matter. Come for the broth and the amazing variety.

A food dream come true

On our last day in NY I finally made it to Brodo. I make my own broth at home and I also have the Brodo broth cookbook. So it was so great to come here and sample this for myself. I had the Hearth broth with garlic and ginger added (additions like this cost extra). I was delighted at my first sip and it felt so good to be having something so nourishing while traveling. The staff were friendly and it’s straight forward menu is easy to navigate. If you’re a fan of broth or just discovering it be sure to try Brodo as it’s very good quality and so good for you.

Delicious and healthy!

Having heard about this online and on various podcasts I made sure to go out of my way to find it during my recent visit to NYC. It is a little booth in between stores where you can order from the street. I had a beef broth and it was delicious and perfect to offset the cold weather. If you don't know the benefits to the amazing broths Brodo has to offer then do yourself a favour and take a little detour away from Union Square to get yourself some awesome nourishment.

Great bone broth selection

Wonderful and healthy menu of various types of bone broths and add-ins. Could have it everyday, it's so delicious and healthy. This is a carry-out window, so grab a cup and go!

Delicious, but I'm not sure I 'get it'.

Broth. Yes, that liquid that I typically use as a base for soup. My friend and I are always looking for that emerging trend in food. She heard about Brodo and suggested that we stop by and check it out. I'm glad that we did, but I'm still trying to wrap my head around it. We stopped by after a day of wandering around the lower east side and thought that we would check it out since it's been getting good press. The walk-up window is really handy and easy to order from - I wish more places in the states had this option for take-out. The broth was certainly amazing. It actually surprised me with the depth of flavor and the complexity. I imagine that on a cold day it was be a great warmer. But, I still don't 'get it'. We walked and drank our broth. That was it. It wasn't soup (I know it's not supposed to be), but it left me wanting a noodle or dumpling. It wasn't coffee or tea, it was far more complex than just a beverage, but it wasn't a meal either so I'm left wondering...

The best for your health

The worst beef bone broth evr

By Mbykova |

Horrible experience! I never had such a bad beef bone broth! It was super watery, extremely salty and I had awful heartburn after and I never have heartburn!!!! I’m some sort of a “health advocate” and experience different healthy places and this experience I absolutely regret! I can’t believe I paid $7 for a small cup of this unknown mixture. When I asked about exact ingredients and amounts of sodium I was given a menu “where you can find everything “ I was told, in fact none of my questions was answered in that piece of paper! I’m even doubting the quality of this product that have such a bad flavor and such a body responds after.

Broth is a way of life

When I'm traveling I live off of broth. It's my go to to keep myself hydrated and alert through long days of meetings. I got some bone broth from a health food store and that was ok for the most part. But the real treat was getting a thermos full of Brodo broth. It's the real deal and absolutely delicious!

Comfort food, paleo and deliciously healthy

A hearty, wholesome and unassuming East Village gem. Brodo offers convenience, fantastic value, and that home cooked healthy alternative we're all searching for. Try the signature Hearth broth made from chicken, turkey and beef. All items on the menu are worth coming back for and the 'add ins' make for that extra savour touch and further good health. Open everyday from noon till 7:30pm. If you're lucky to be living in Manhattan, this should definitely be a place you frequent. Otherwise, like myself, you're left to salivate, thinking about that warm cup of goodness and longing for your next trip to NYC!

Hype?

By nvgfocus |

Went here to try the broth after reviews in international media. Well, if you go for broth you won't be dissapointed, since that is exactly what you get. It doesn't taste bad, but lacks the comforting warmth and depht of flavors which I was expecting. Hope they will improve
