I last visited this restaurant 13 years and was determined to eat there again during this visit - I was not disappointed. As previous, the food was amazing, decent sized portions and amazing service. My husband and I ordered 1 starter to share and then 1 main vegetarian and 1 non vegetarian dish with 1 nan as the waiter kindly informed us that the size of the nan was large. Delicious food !!!

this restaurant belongs to my friend Raja and Vicky. They have amazing food and great hospitality. i have tasted their food in various caterings and found that food is always fresh and tasty.

Went to the restaurant with friends The servings were pretty decent and the food tasted really good. The offered us Daal and Chana papari for free which was great But over all i did find it a bit pricey

When you and your husband are the only non-Indians in an Indian restaurant, you know you're going to get excellent food, and we did! We ordered a chicken vindaloo and a lamb dish: Gazab Ki Boti. Our server asked us about "how hot" we wanted it, and my husband said, "hot!" Hot, we got - and it was amazing! The garlic naan was HUGE, as were the portions of the food. We couldn't eat it all, and sadly - as we were staying in a hotel - we had no way to take our leftovers with us. I generally give leftovers in that situation to a homeless person, but didn't want to chance the "hot" on an unsuspecting person, so... The menus here are slabs of wood about 18" across. Black print on brown wood, so bring your cheaters and a flashlight. lol Very good value for the money, and dinner for two (two entrees, Basmati rice, naan, one beer) was about $80. Two entrees could easily feed four people, BTW.

Went there last night for dinner with a group of friends from overseas - thoroughly enjoyed our evening with great food and cocktails. The kababs are outstanding (amongst other things, of course), dal Bukhara and the mixed bread basket. Staff attitude is exceptional. Highly recommend this restaurant.

Just a great place for proper Indian dinner. It's definitely a bit pricer than other places but it's definitely worth it. The portions are very generous and well made with great taste. And the service is truly excellent. They've always got staff nearby and service is prompt! Anything from the Clay oven is my best tip.

i have been using trip advisor for a number of years now but never actually wrote a review. Until tonight. I went to this restaurant with my wife on the recommendation of a manager of another indian restaurant in new york. Who could possibly be in a better position to recommend a restaurant than the manager of a similar place, i thought? I checked out their website and menu and the place seemed nice. A little on the expensive side but if I could finally find a good north indian curry house I would be happy to pay a little extra. I made a reservation and visited on a saturday evening. From the very first minute things did not start well. We were seated outside next to the air ventilation unit which was noisy and ugly. The mosquitos also made for an uncomfortable experience. We asked several times to be seated indoors. At first we were told that we could sit inside in about 15 minutes. 15 minutes came and went. We then asked another waiter and we simply advised that we could not sit inside at all as it was too busy. The starters came and my chicken tikka was undercooked. Not what i expected for a restaurant with "grill" in the name. The main course was actually very nice. I had a chicken vindaloo and the spice level was perfect. So no complaints there at all. I couldn't finish it all and asked to take the leftovers home. The waiter said that was fine and he would get it packaged for me. 10 minutes later, the check arrived but not the leftovers. I asked if my leftovers were ready and a few minutes later I was told by another member of staff that my leftovers had been thrown in the trash and that instead I was getting a fresh curry. OK i thought, these things happen. But then I was told that I was getting a complete different curry! I was pretty fed up at this point so we just left.

Quick buffet service for business lunch. Service is friendly and buffet selection is very good. You can also request special naans.

So good... Service was excellent. ..a little too much waiting on us hand in foit...but we didn't want for anything. Our waiter was patient and communicated the different dishes to try. We settled on tikka masala and a spicy goat meat dish. The tikka masala chicken was so tender it was good....a little more of a tomato taste than I am accustomed to, but it was great nevertheless. The goat with a spicy sauce was unfortunately not as spicy as would have wanted, but it was yummy and better than the tikka. We got garlic naan due to the reviews we encountered. ...perfectly cooked and with the perfect amount for garlic! Would definitely be back when I'm in town, and my boyfriend has a new place to eat Indian!

Had dinner here last weekend. Staff helpful with our ordering. Food of excellent quality. Prices reasonable. Felt at end of meal we were "hurried out".

We enjoyed the buffet lunch a lot. It is a gourment high end pkace, just great simple indian food executed professionally. Defunitelly recommended.

Solid choice for Indian food in the city. Very good food. Good service. Highly recommended. Reasonably priced as well.

Had a good lunch here after my meeting. The moment you enter, the aroma of the grill just makes you more hungry. Ambience - nice and has authentic feel to it Staff - cordial Buffet spread - nice, balanced Food - not all dishes are excellent, bust most of the dishes are good Price - $18 and some change with taxes The only dish I did not like was spinach.

Located in Mid-Manhattan, I decided to have a business lunch during a 6-hour NYC lay-over. Its a very tight space and unfortunately not a good place to have a business conversation. The food was definitely pricey and since it was busy, the wait staff wanted us to be done and leave. Despite that, some of the staff were very nice and the food tasted good along with the Mango Lassi, which I needed for the spicy food that I accidentally picked up from the buffet. Will still recommend if budget is not an issue.

Delicious, yummy and very good meal. I would love to come back ))))))))))))location also nice one. I really enjoyed

Amazing Indian lunch buffet for $16 centrally located in east Manhattan. The staff is friendly and the location is marvelous.

First of all, it's not a fancy fine dine restaurant if that's what you expect it to be..going by the name. I am sure you get it if you been to New Delhi. The food is quite delicious and tasteful per NYC standards. We went during lunch buffet, the variety, freshness, and quality of food items were compelling. The dessert section was average. The service was nice and the manager was pleasant.

We have made multiple visits to this restaurant and have come to this conclusion - no one in the city does the Dal Bukhara as well as Bukhara Grill. Their garlic naan is fantastic too and the service has always been warm, courteous and prompt! Their lamb barrah kebab is excellent but their chicken kebabs (we have tried it on 2 occasions) leave a lot to be desired. The chicken is dried out and the marination doesn't reach the bone. The kitchen is under able hands under Chef Rawat and his absence is immediately noticed. Their lunch buffets are packed with office-goers and offer a huge variety. All said and done, I would go there again simply for the Dal Bukhara, which is as close to the ITC Dal Bukhara as it can get!

We were despearate to have Indian food and bukhara didn't disappoint us. Dal bukhara is amazing, shaarabi kabaabi chicken tikka is good though it should be cooked bit more fine. Overall good food, worth a visit.

I tend to be wary of Indian buffets, not because of the cuisine, which I love, but because I worry that the buffet style may not invite the best cooking. We had heard that some members of India's delegation to the UN think that Bukhara Grill is outstanding. They should know, so we trusted them and went. Lunch was just great - and I'm glad that I'm endowed with will power or we would have eaten lots more. If you like Indian food, go here. If you think you don't, go here anyway and try it. You may be surprised. I really appreciated the little dish of lime pickle by the tandoori. I LOVE lime pickle.

My Husband and I eat at Bukhara Grill whenever we stay in the City. The menu has something for everyone but we always gravitate to our favourites. The naan bread is enormous so we always have to make sure we don't fill up on that. Our favourites are the chicken makhni and lamb vindalool. The vindaloo is to hot for me but my husband loves it. I really enjoy the way they serve the dishes, it appears that they are copper vessels. The service is always great and very attentive. It's very traditional and completely delicious!

Found this on our last day in New York and wish we'd found it on the first as I would have visited many times. Did the lunch brunch...and was obviously a popular site for local business people and tourists. Amazing selection of food in the buffet - everything I tried (which was most everything) was delicious.

I have been going to this restaurant for years. they have the best lamb kebabs in NYC. Why try a new restaurant when you know the food and the service will be consistently excellent?

If you just want food then this is the place to be. Decent buffet. Service on the other hand is poor and with no soul.

This is one the best sub-continent restaurants we have visited in NYC. Excellent food. We didnt get to try many things off the menu, but based on what ever we did, I am sure everything is a must try. Highly recommended.

After a hectic day, while hunting for a place to have indian food chanced upon this restaurant on google maps and thought to give it a try. Fortunately a very good decision. It is a busy place and we were lucky to get a table. The place had a lot of similarities with Bukhara in ITC Maurya in Delhi. The apron including the design, the menu etched painted on a wooden block. We were having vegetarian and the v place did full justice. Palak koftas and Aubergine in a gravy were simply out of the world. The bread platter is humongous- don't go by the fact that it is supposed to be only 3 different breads. Easily good for 4. The main course helpings are also fairly large. Most important the food was tasty. Certainly worth a visit. The only thing they could do better is serve with a smile.

This restaurant is a great place to have a meal. The food is excellent and truly highlights the great flavors of the Indian cuisine. They have so many wonderful dishes that is difficult to recommend only one or two so, try the grill platter, the lamb, the egg plant, the lentils the different types of rice and of course the incredible breads. The place is somewhat small and their main sitting area is "cozy" but, like most restaurants in New York that is the beauty off it. The service is implacable and the prices are reasonable. Overall is always a great experience.

I'll admit that the other entrees my party of three shared were not as good; I had the Mal Mal Kabab, and it didn't do much for me, and the other entree was forgettable. having said that the service was relaxed, informative, and top-notch...and they offer a fun selection of Indian beer. It's nice to find something besides Kingfisher!

Visited with my wife on a Monday night. Restaurant not overly busy. Nice atmosphere at first as we entered on ground floor. Seated upstairs. Noisy environment. Too tight space between tables. We order daal and a lamb dish with rice and roti bread. Food was fine. However the service was without any heart at all. And when price is at the high end of dining indian in midtown, we left with a bad taste from what should and could have been a good night out dining indian on a cold night in NYC. I recommend the waiters make up their mind if they want guests in their restaurant or not. Thank you.

After a few days on holiday we always crave some of our native cuisine... can't live without some chilli in your life! I did some research and this place had some good reviews and it was just around the corner from our hotel. The food is absolutely lovely and really authentic! My mind was put at ease when I walked in and saw the number of Indian's eating in there and it just got better from there on! You must try the Bukhara Dhaal and the Methi Chicken, really tasty!! One word of advice is that the dishes and naan are very large, so order one less than you normally do. In the UK we would have three mains between four of us, we therefore ordered three but left almost a whole dish behind because we couldn't finish it all. I was surprised to learn that the restaurant has been there for 15 years...

I thought that the menu was extensive and had many vegetarian options. My main issue was with the servers, they seemed pushy always asking if you wanted another bottle of water or more to drink. I would have preferred to be left alone to enjoy the delicious food, rather than constantly being pestered to order more.

Went for dinner based on reviews on Tripadvisor. Food and service was excellent. Great quality, great taste, wonderfully done. Service was professional and attentive. Atmosphere was cozy but still very nice. Waiter was excellent with recommendations. Price was higher than average for Indian cuisine but it is the Turtle Bay area. Still we brought home enough food for another dinner as portions were very generous. Will definitely be back again. If you enjoy Indian cuisine and find yourself on the east side of Manhattan, I highly recommend this restaurant.

We were very lucky to visit this native Indian place. All we tasted was fantastic. Carry chicken, bread with garlic and spinach are strongly recommended.

Located just two blocks from the Waldorf Astoria, this restaurant is not especially notable from the outside or the entrance, but upstairs the dining room is simple, clean and equipped with friendly wait staff and a very tasty lunch buffet. I sampled just about everything, from goat to varous chicken dishes, raita, pickles, chutney and a range of vegetable dishes and baked cheese. It appeared to have a terrace for outdoor dining out back as well. The range of dishes and quality was excellent for a reasonable price. Would definitely return as there are no decent Indian restaurants in my home neck of the woods.

the raan is fab and so is the fish. Request an outside table if the weather permits. Service is attentive and the servers give sage advice. Great value as well.

This place is a pride for New York city. With its typical indian style ambience it will not boost much but as one comes to the taste,i must say it will really take you to another level of food and specially the indian spice art. They are really good for the famous dal bukhara. It is a must try there. It has a very rich and smooth flavor which really will go deep and wake up the taste buds. But for other dishes, beware if u are not much of a spice food lover. Bon-appetite

The food is absolutely superb and I will come back again just for that but the staff is void of personality although they are attentive. No help with the menu for a first time visit and lots of up-selling. I guess that would be normal here considering everything is a la carte. Rice extra, bread extra, side veggies extra, so a delicious $24 chicken Makhani becomes $60 with basic sides. Classy and homey inside but much more expensive than what you expect.

We were recommended this restaurant by friends who travel to NYC frequently. We made reservations, though they seemed unnecessary when we arrived at 7pm. More likely, a reservation would be required after 8pm. We were seated at the outdoor terrace, and it had a lovely view of the adjoining gardens from neighbors. The wait staff quickly opened the awning when a light rain started, so that we could continue to dine outside. The food was delicious and plentiful! When ordering, please note that rice and bread are a la carte. The naan is one HUGE piece, so order wisely! Prices seemed appropriate for NYC dining. We will definitely return here and recommend it to others.

Really tasty food: Daal Makhani, Paneer Kadhai, Bhindi Do Pyazaa...!!! We only ordered delivery to our hotel room, but they delivered without extra charge and hot! Thank you!!

we are at a lot of indian restaurant in NYC but this one had the most worst service of all. A lot of waiters were moving up and down and had nothing to do, but they were not able to fill up our our glasses. The prices are very high for the food. Don‘t go there, there are better ones.

Went there for dinner. The food excelled in quality and flavour. Good, kind service. Would return if possible.

Nice authentic food. Waiting staff and owner were very courteous. Made sure that I am comfortable and made sure that I liked food. Very nice Indian hospitality. Only little disappointment was Dal Bukhara was not as good as I was expecting. But everything else was good. Again excellent staff. Highly recommended.

Buffet looked good but the taste was disappointing, worst part was dessert carrot halwa was slop with no texture or taste. Runny sugar! No Effective air conditioning.

This is a nice Indian restaurant on the 49th street which offers a wonderful buffet. The buffet has close to 20 items from starters including chutneys and papads to gulabjamun in desserts. The interior is average decorated yet has the style of the Indian theme but also a bit cramped. The buffet is on the first floor and has moderate seating capacity. The food is spicy to the taste and given the location and the variety of the food, I would say that the price is almost reasonable.

Called in with some colleagues for a buffet lunch. It’s a no-frills place with outstanding food and you won’t be hungry when you leave!

This restaurant is the place to go for authentic north Indian dishes. Their tandoor dishes are amazing. The ambiance and service is pretty fantastic.

Went to this restaurant as it came up under vegan food for NYC. however we were reminded of why Indian men have a bad reputation with women. I wanted to leave but we stayed as visitors we were caught with transport. We were poorly dealt with and it was overpriced. Very underwhelming Go elsewhere.

Its really an ordinary place with greater than ordinary price. The cup opps.. not a cup.. i mean the vessel in which water was served didn't make me want to take water,.. Then the buffet meal honestly was just food, i ate to appease my body... didn't do much more .. Not bad i must say but also not all that as well.

BEST CURRY EVER! What a gem of a place to eat! Wonderful! Food cooked to perfection and very reasonable prices. Portion sizes were large. Wine was complementary. Service was swift. I highly recommend this establishment.

We have enjoyed the lunch buffet numerous times over the years, and I must admit we enjoyed it today, as well. They offered a wide selection of dishes, both vegetarian as well as chicken and lamb offerings which were all nicely flavored. However, at $16.95/person the price is getting a bit high considering other excellent Indian buffets in town.

Went for the lunch buffet which by itself was fine. Decent selection good quality and really no issues with the food. The staff however are arrogant rude and almost hostile. The buffet is in a cramped room upstairs that is 50 x 20, and the layout is terrible. Very cramped and a bad use of the space. In addition there are four waiters standing there pacing back-and-forth that tiny room Hawking over you every second. To make matters worse in the middle of the lunch rush they started mopping the floor including under tables were guests were trying to eat forcing them to get up from the table twice! The manager of the restaurant was also talking very loudly to the employees are not in a friendly tone that also detracted from what little ambience there was. So in short you have a decently priced buffet with good food but the ambience service and attention or hawking by the staff made it a horrible experience.

When visiting NYC annually, we have a lunch buffet at Bukhara. The best I've had in the US. Great selection, tastes, and value. On our list for next years trip

Some really mixed reviews here, but for what it's worth.. Actually came here with the enemy and my 2 x children during the days following Sandy, and they really looked after us. She and I returned this past Saturday, and to be fair we had a first class meal. Started with pakoras and lamb sheekh kebabs - both really tasty. The garlic naan was the size of a snow show - I'm not kidding -, the chicken from the tandoor oven succulent (was enough to share), and the basmati rice light as a feather. They even brought us each some vindaloo / mild sauce on the side since our tastes are so different. I know NYC is very quiet at the moment, but in any case the service was excellent. In summary, very few 'buts' to report. It's far from cheap, and the chicken tandoori is downright egregious at $29, but aside from that only the very rapid appearance of my wife's Mangotini (pre-made?) made us wonder. Will definitely return, and probably try the buffet next time.

What is up with this restaurant and all the dim lights and crammed seating? Totally crammed seating. You could take your neigbhors food and start eating, I am kidding of course, but you are seated that close. It is ok. Pricey. You can find better value elsewhere.

I liked the lunch buffet a lot (may be I was slightly biased the day after my marathon run). Varied, good food. Would be less good for a vegetarian. The reason for giving it only 3 stars and not 5, as I would otherwise have done, is that the price given to me was higher than what is advertized on their web page and the beer way too expensive (the price was not given beforehand): 13$ for one bottle.

Landed up here since I was missing Indian food on a long trip to the US and was staying in the vicinity. Not impressed - rather dingy, and the quality of the curry was no where near what gets back in India (but maybe the standard I have is too high). The Naans (breads) were large and soft. Extremely highly priced though.

I can't express how much I love Indian cuisine. Bukhara did not disappoint. My colleagues and I visited for the lunch buffet which would set you back app. $17. I sampled almost everything and with each individual portion I could taste all the flavors which is a big plus for me coming from the Caribbean. Their meats are well done. My favorites were the tandoori chicken and lamb curry which was very tender. I also highly recommend the Baighan esp. for vegetarians. Deserts, however, aren't anything to boast of and very limited in variety. My only regrets are not finding out about this place sooner and not trying the naan. *Note that it is more expensive than other Indian options nearby.

Nice, small spot tucked on 49th. Go upstairs and in the back. Patio and garden looks like it would be nice in summer. Good food and authentic slightly snooty wait staff. Excellent and spicy vindaloo, not watered down for westerners. Potato naan good as well. Not sure why but got a bunch of after dinner cocktails on the house.

Do visit this place if you are looking for a tasty and spicy north indian food. It has good variety and food has the class of north indian touch.

At night for dinner we been to there but we dont get disappointed. Very nice and delicious indian punjabi food.

Family dinner visiting NY. We found it based on location and recommendation on Tripadvisor. And we were not disappointed. It was great. The owner was a good host and the food was very good. All the different spices stood out clealy and appetizing.

The worst Indian food I have ever had with terrible attitude and service by the waiters. Please do not visit this restaurant if you want good Indian food and if you would like good service. This has been my worst experience so far with Indian restaurants. The service was the main reason.

Authentic Indian flavors. Menu on a wooden leaf, aprons for napkins! Huge menu, meat, veggies, bread, rice, the works!!! Try the famous lentil dal Bukhara for sure. Served in copper vessels, outside terrace seating, 2 floors. Good service, owners always come by to chat up. Full service bar! Do not miss this Indian charm.

This is one of the nice place who serves delicious Indian food..they also have buffet so you can have choice of vegetarian as well as non-vegetarian food ..

Happened to chance into this place while looking for another restaurant in the locality. We were tired and hungry so just stepped into the first available indian restaurant we could find. And were we lucky. Nice place, nice ambience and busy. We were lucky to get a table for 5 without a reservation. The place is a replica of Bukhara in ITC Maurya Delhi. The same design of napkins, the same manu on a wooden slate. Well copied is not bad and they did it well. We were vegetarians but there were ample options. The aubergine in curry was a novel dish, so was the palak kofta. The bread platter of 3 breads is misleading as it is humungous. Maindish helpings are reasonably large. Food preparation was perfect. The only place were i would deduct marks is for service with a smile. Completely missing. But what the heck, the food was superb. Definitely worth going back again.

Let’s start with the positives - excellent complimentary papads, chutney and onions - fabulous naan (they are huge so probably worth sharing) - friendly and efficient service - good butter butter chicken Negative - the lamb seekh kebab was very disappointing. Lacked flavour.

Went for dinner with a friend. The waiter spilled the beer on my friend and didn't bother to wipe immediately. When the check came, we requested to equally divide it on two cards, but the attempted to charge almost 50% more on one of the card, thinking that we won't notice the double charging of same items on both cards. So please avoid but if you go, make sure to read your final payment check carefully before you pay.

Absolutely phenomenal Indian food for lunch here today. Fantastic service. We were given a free entree and free lassi as well. The mushrooms were delicious and the parantha was delightful. Thank you for a fantastic lunch in NYC

Ok restaurant, will try again. Not so good. Not good customer service. Thanks Sir may be like to talk to you about and come again

I had huge naan, mango lassi, pulau rice and chicken inShuni murgh Korma. The least hot. Restaurant was packed .

The restaurant is already rated highly on tripadvisor, hence, I was keen to try. The menu does not have lot of variety. We ordered vegetarian food and it was of great quality. The portion was large (specifically, the garlic naan was huge). The service was prompt and the waiter provided good suggestion of not ordering rice in advance. The ambiance and lighting was good as well. Overall, I think this is a great place to have Indian / Kebab food.

I've been coming to the Bukhara Grill for years and they have never disappointed, excellent food and service, must go!

The food here was good. Be aware that it is expensive. Now in terms of nyc expensive, its probably not the case. However for the type of food we felt it was. They do a very good job when it comes to the taste of the food and they do provide decent portions. I liked the warm cloth at the end of the meal! All in all, give it a try, especially if you like Indian food.

I was greatly looking forward to a good Indian meal on my recent trip to NY, shame I chose this place. Let me start with the good. The place itself is nice and the an an bread is good. That's it. Now onto the bad. Well for a start every other table was presented with free chips and dips, which we were not. I ordered a Vindaloo which was very mild. The Chicken was some of the worst I have ever had the misfortune to come across and it resembled more a dead dinosaur than a chicken. Also do not go by the prices listed on TripAdvisor as the actual place has higher prices and less choice. My wife didn't even eat half her dish and when they asked if it was to take away we politely said no thanks.

Great, flavoursome, dry-spiced meats and some very tasty vegetable dishes. Huge, soft naan bread. Excellent staff did everything they could to make sure we had a really enjoyable meal over a few hours - and it was worth taking time over.

If you are looking for an upscale restaurant, Bukhara is not for you; however, if you want excellent service, extremely well prepared indian food with all the textures, flavors and scents, Bukhara is like traveling to India itself. The popper is addictive and the Nan is a work of art. Kingfisher and Taj Mahal Beer is served cold, as it should be to cool down the heat is you so desire. Come with an appetite. You will not regret it

Went for a meal this evening just me and my fiancé and it started with fantastic service off a lovely and helpful lady, had our starter and then a break as the starter filled is up, had our main course but had to have a doggy bag as there was so much food, unfortunately the lady serving us must of finished her shift and left leaving us to pay the $185 bill and leave a $45 tip to someone else which they seemed completely insulted by and the male servers decided to be rude/ignorant to us which spoiled our night, we are from the UK and only used to tipping when service is very good, I felt $45 was a good enough tip maybe I'm wrong but to be ignored is just not acceptable, that's why I'm hoping they read this and that other customers are aware of what can happen at the end of a nice meal. It's a shame as the food was good, just a shame that the male servers were rude and ignorant!

Great Selection. Yummy food . The bill was pricey so that's why I can't quite give it 5 stars. If you have an urge to splurge, Bukhara Grill is a great place to get a truly tasty meal!

Although we almost never dine there, we order in from them every week, and the food is always delicious. Also, the portions are enormous, so although it's a little pricey, in the long run it becomes actually VERY INEXPENSIVE, since we can eat for several days from one order.

I walked into Bukhara Grill on second day of my US visit. Having heard a lot about this place through friends and reviews, I wanted to give it a try. I was expecting a mediocre Indian meal tweeked to please the American palate. But I was in for a pleasant surprise.Manager Alok who recoganizd me from his Delhi days worked out a platter ( a single diner sort of menu) for me.For Starters I was served a chicken Mal Mal kebab which was a chicken kebab cooked in Tandoor it was yummiest of all followed by chicken Tikka Masala, Gobhi taka a tin, Dal Bhukhara Tandoori Prantha n Zeera peace pulao. The entire meal was pure bliss. The taste of food, ambience and courteous Indian staff around me made me feel that I am in India sitting in one of the upmarket Indian restaurant. Then I met Raja n Vicky the owners going around, shaking hands and speaking to guests in friendly manner. This was my first meal in New York and I am great full to people like Raja and Vicky who made me feel like home with the food like Delhi with same taste n ambience. I'll go back to this restaurant as and when possible as it's an Indian outpost in America. They have set a very high bench mark for other Indian restaurants in America and all over the world. Kudos to team Bhukhara grill.

Enjoyed the food here at Bukhara Grill. The buffet, though not cheap is definitely worth it. All the food was good as was the service. It was a bit hot on the side we were sitting maybe because of the grills. Otherwise a good experience and I would recommend it.

We stopped at Bukhara after a visit to Radio City and am glad we did. We had the lunch buffet (under $20 each) and was pleased with the selection. There were an array bofh meat and vegetarian choices. I like Indian food (but do not consider myself an expert by any means) and thought all the dished were tasty and well seasoned If you are in the area and like Indian food, I would certainly recommend the lunch buffet.

My preferred spot for Indian food in Midtown East. Took a few of my colleague for the buffet lunch and everyone, including the non Indians in the crowd, enjoyed it. Good selection - butter chicken, dal bhukhara (Kali dal) and the mutton curries are good standard northern Indiana cuisine. They bring fresh naans and rotis (make the request) to the table. Lots of staff on hand so quick and good service is the norm. Price for the buffet is $18. Am sure you can find cheaper spots but this place gives you ample selection and good quality for the price. If you're having dinner there, it can get quite pricey. I'd suggest the Non Veg tandoori grill platter is the best option...lot of meat for the money. Add a dal and you're all set. I don't give it a 5* only because the layout is a bit choppy. If you're a small group (3-4), you may wish to get a seat on the patio at the back of the 1st floor. Only 2 tables available there. Good spot in summer, especially in the evenings. SV

The food was amazing, especially the chicken tikka masala; I would definitely recommend it. The naan was great, better than what I've had in a while. The service was amazing, the waiter was very nice.

Most authentic Indian food, I've had in a long time. The owner is very charming and hands on. We were a group of 6 people - with varying tastes and dietary requirements. He helped everyone with their selection and even altered a few to our liking. He kept the drinks flowing. Dine here once and you wont be able to eat anywhere else.

Let me be clear , I went there just for Indian desserts and they were below average. We ordered 2 and one was insipid at best and the other just about below average. The restaurant otherwise looked busy and the service was friendly - I hope rest of the food is better than desserts.

We picked this place at random because it was close to our hotel but it did not disappoint. We were there for lunchtime so the buffet was still available. In general, I do not like buffets, this is definitely an exception. There was not a huge selection which meant everything was prepared well. They still managed to have a variety of choices to please everyone. They only had 2 dessert selections which were just ok nothing special about them. The service was quick and efficient we never had to look for our waiter he just seemed to magically appear when needed. This one is being marked as a must go back.

In fairness I haven't been to them all, but quiet a few, and I still think this is the best. The last time I went to Bukhara was over 10 years ago and the food and service is still just as good. It's not a cheap night out, but occaisionally it is worth every penny. But I would suggest that you reserve a table as it gets very busy.

I can highly recommend both the food and service and this restaurant. The cuisine is authentic and extremely flavourful and the service was genuine and friendly. This is the place you need to go for good food, great service and all at a reasonable price!

Excellent and we left very full. The service staff were attentive. The decor make the experience authentic. Do have the naan bread.

We actually did not go to the restaurant itself, but we have had their catering. The food is delicious. We had a wide variety and it seems they have a lot of options to choose from. If you want to cater large crowds, this restaurant is great for that.

We thought this was a very odd restaurant although it seemed to very popular. The Indian fare was nothing like we are used to. We ordered a garden salad, two entrees, rice and naan. The salad consisted of cucumber, carrots and tomatoes with sliced large, not bite-sized pieces over a small amount of spinach leaves. With the salad the waiter plunked down a bottle of Ranch dressing!!! We ordered two entrees, one lamb, one chicken, both with mild seasoning. The lamb came so spicy, it was barely edible and when we brought it to there attention they took it back and made it less spicy. The service was adequate and prices reasonable, but not a good experience unless you like that type of Indian food

peeked in the window as we were walking by & a worker popped out to say that they open at 5 but welcomed us to look around. We returned for dinner & were treated to a delicious family style meal. All were give a bib as a napkin to keep out clothes spotless. The service was phenomenal as well....a must do again when next in NYC.

Visit for quick lunch meal. Very pleasantly surprised by the options and the quality of the food (helps being one of the first to eat there, I am sure). $17 is probably not the cheapest option, but I truly think worth the 2-3$ extra. Also attentive service.

Decent food, quantity but pricey Located in mid town !! Nan and layered bread was out standing and generous quantities They give a lot of quantity

We were 2 Brits and 4 Americans deciding to go for an Indian and picked the Bukhara Grill simply because it is located near our hotel. We pre-booked and we're pleased as the place was heaving. From start to finish the entire experience was like being home in Birmingham UK where "Indian" or really Bangladeshi restaurants are in abundance. Food and service was great as was the Kingfisher. At approx $60 per head this was great value for the middle of NYC. Highly recommended.

Bukhara Grill is on the east side near the UN. The restaurant is known to be good but expensive among expats. It is indeed expensive for typical restaurant. The restaurant occupies the entire building and has fallen behind in its daily maintenance. While the food is good, the service was truly unprofessional. The wait staff were rude and intrusive. The food to value ratio is poor for NYC.

Great place to satisfy the spice craving with delicious northern Indian cuisine. Go empty as portions sizes leave enough for lunch the next day. Perhaps a little pricey, but worth the splash for quality and flavours. Staff very welcoming and attentive.

I recently went to Bukhara Grill for my first Indian meal. I was greeted at the door by the hostess who was extremely pleasant and was telling me about the restaurant and the chefs and making recommendations about the menu. Our waiter Viveik was super friendly and very accommodating explaining the menu and answering my questions. We started with the Tangri Kabab appetizer which was delicious. And followed with a chicken and lamb dish which were also delicious and don't forget The garlic Nan which compliments the meal. All in all a great dining experience.

I had been absent from this restaurant for some years, but the quality of the food remains the same, excellent. The service is also efficient and friendly.

As Indian food is one of my favourites, we booked well in advance of our 7-day visit to NYC. It was for a Saturday and a buffet was on offer, always a great way to sample Indian food. The food was beautifully presented, the range of dishes never-ending and above all the quality was superb. The management and staff exude efficiency and friendliness and it is no wonder that their guests have included Hillary and Bill Clinton, U2 and innumerable other A-listers. This is as good as Indian food can get and I will be back for sure.

Been to Bukhara many times... Went here with a friend from work who has not had a lot of Indian food.... he loved it! The food is excellent with fantastic flavors. My favorite is that they put other vegetables in the Chicken Tikka Marsala, makes it awesome. The Naan is HUGE and delicious.

We had Tandoori Chicken ($24), Palak Paneer ($21), Methi Machli ($29) all were good to very good. The Garlic Nan ($7.50) was enormous & good. The Basmati Rice Pulo ($8) was good. Service was good. We will go back. We sat upstairs.

This is an absolutely excellent India restaurant. I was there for dinner with a colleague, just recently. We picked it more for its location (close to midtown hotels) than anything but came away very impressed. I might add that both of us are pretty tough on Indian restaurants but the Bukhara Grill exceeded any reasonable expectation. No, it's not the Bukhara in Delhi, and yes I've eaten there a couple times, but it's very, very close. We shared a couple starters (Lamb Seekh and a chicken dish - Sharabi Kababi) and then had Alook Bukhara Korma (lamb), Chicken Tikka Masala and Dal Bukhara plus Garlic Naan. All were excellent. One warning, though - the portions are much bigger than most Indian restauarants. That's a good thing but something to be aware of. The service matched the quality of food; topnotch I'd highly recommend the Bukhara Grill.

I loved the food, like the cuisine and also the waiters for watering my glass when ever I needed it without asking.

Bukhara's food with memories of Indian replica you may be slightly disappointed, but assurance of genuine ingredients make you comfortable & can compromise on taste, medium spicy level as per choice that makes you fall in memory of great Indian food.

Popped in a quick lunch and enjoyed the good all-you-can eat buffet. There was sufficient selection for vegetarians with panner (cottage cheese), vegetables, lady's finger (brinjal), dal (lentils), rice, naan bread, as well as, 2 deserts.

The food was certainly tasty and well spiced, but the overwhelming memory of this restaurant will be the waiter's snooty attitude. One member of our group sought guidance to work around a nut allergy. The waiter simply noted one dish (korma) which included nuts. This was hardly helpful because cashews and/or almonds are standard ingredients in this dish. Repeated queries re what dishes do NOT include nuts yielded no information. This was not a language barrier issue, just a waiter attitude. Not only did he not try to guide the patron to dishes without nuts, he neglected to identify other dishes that most certainly had nuts. The waiter's warning that the vindaloo was exceptionally hot could not have been more wrong - it was one of the more tame offerings I've tasted. And the service was distressingly slow when the place was not crowded and the wait staff were in abundance. Ok, enough bashing of the waiter, because the food actually was very well prepared and quite enjoyable. We all had different dishes and everyone was pleased. Portions were good and meat was plentiful in each dish. Prices were reasonable too. So, yes, the food is good, but a waiter's snooty attitude can spoil an otherwise good meal.

I was recommended this restaurant after speaking to the front desk of the Marriott East on Lexington Ave. and strolled over on a whim. Frankly , I wish I had not been so spur of the moment as there are numerous Indian Restaurants just as close. Not that it was bad, simply mediocre .. The staff though friendly was relatively unattentive, and the restaurants ambiance could use a little work. Though wine is not a known Indian palate forte , our parties choice of 3 different grapes left something to be desired. Plate quantities were fine, but everything we had lacked that lovely panache that Indian food is known for.....

We decided to dine here as we like indian cuisine back in the UK and this restaurant has good reviews on trip advisor. There is a good range of vegetarian options on the menu (very authentic) and I chose the sarson ka saag wanting it medium my partner chose Kadai cholley asking for it to be mild. We also had a side order of makki ki roti and pilau rice. My partner didn't actually want any side (no carbs diet) but the waiter asked what she was eating the curry with!? It was certainly thick enough to eat without bread or rice so the rice remained uneaten. The kadai cholley was far too spicy to be called mild and the sarson ka saag was actually less spicy. It was also not very nice so left half of it. The roti bread was also like cardboard. Maybe I made a bad choice but I found the taste to be very unpleasant. It is also very expensive. This is no cheap night out. If you find the meal here to be 'delicious' then get yourself over to the UK and try an Indian meal there.

Had an excellent meal here last evening. Sat on the second floor inside. As noted by other reviewers the staff can be a tad surly and keen to get you to upgrade what you are ordering. Despite this the Bhuna Goat was excellent in a rich sauce and I want to return for the Kadai Cholley, terrific chickpeas and spices. The Bread Basket combo of three breads was way overpriced at $16 and too much even for four people. On the next table they simply had the regular Naan, which is probably the biggest Naan in the world! Just $6.50 and enough for two to four people. If you have deep pockets this is a great place to visit but you'll find better value elsewhere at half the price and three quarters of the quality.

Visited Bukhara during a business trip to NY. Someone in our group ordered for the table and dish after dish kept arriving! We had a selection of appetisers, tandoori mixed platter & superb giant prawns. The butter chicken was delicious and perfect sauce to dip the giant nan in which was one of the nicest I've ever had. We finished with a selection of desserts and the pineapple sorbet was a perfect way to finish a fantastic meal. Great service, great food, would definitely recommend!

We had been there for lunch on a Sunday afternoon. We preferred buffet lunch. There was a good choice of vegetarian, lamb and chicken items. The presence of chat items and pani puri was a surprise. However the choice in deserts was very limited with one type of cut fruit and two sweets. Soup was missing in buffet menu. The restaurant was very warm becaise of inadequate air condirioning. Every item was very tasty and we enjoyed our lunch inspite of above shortco.

Went here for dinner with hubby, lovely restaurant and whom we believe to be the owners greeted us even though we didn't have a reservation. Staff very pleasant and chatty. We ordered 2main dishes and 2 rotis, hubby had a beer and I a soda. Lamb was beautiful and tender, chicken alittle on the sweet side. Our total bill came to around $90 which we thought was abit pricey. We were given a starter consisting of yoghurt and tamarind which was on the house and it which was delicious. Atmo at the restaurant lacked, I don't know if this was because it was a Monday. Overall a nice food, tad bit expensive but worth a visit. Hence only 4 stars.

Enjoyed the lunch buffet - all you can eat. It is worth the money. most buffets like this don't have the variety of meat like this one.

It can be difficult to find a great meal at a reasonable price in Manhattan and buffets can be highly variable but Bukhara provides great variety with high quality and at a reasonable price. Located close enough to the UN for my friends who work there to slip uptown for lunch it offers a relatively small intimate setting for either couples or for you to bring the office for an outing.

The food here is delicious! We came for dinner on a Friday night and had a spread of lamb, chicken, lentils, spinach, rice, and garlic nan. We finished with two delicious desserts- I wish I could remember the names- and spiced chai. The bill was pricey so that's why I can't quite give it 5 stars, but you will get a truly tasty meal! The atmosphere is nice and the noise level is moderate. Our meal also heated up well for leftovers.

A right place to have authentic Indian meal., in the heart of midtown Manhattan, All the apptizers and entree’s are freshly prepared to your delight. The spices and flavors add to the culinary pleasure. Restaurant occupies three floors of a town house. First and second floor of the building is for dinning, while the third is exclusively for medium sized parties. Delivery, takeout and catering is available. Full bar service is added advantage.

Great Food, sit upstairs whatever you do and do not let them sit you downstairs. Very good service as well. Everything is good on this menu. The Mixed Grill platter is the most wonderful dish you could have. Their breads and various rice dishes are far superior to anything that I have tried in any Indian Restaurant in New York and I have been to many. Great vegetable dishes as well and I tried the fied okra and it was great.

We were enticed by a buffet menu sign outside but decided to sit at a downstairs booth and order from menu. It was a big mistake! Prices were outrageous! Most expensive Indian lunch in NYC! And portions were small! While flavor was good, it wasn't worth the price and wasn't exceptional food. The staff was slow and pretentious. They wore costumes and the menu was engraved in wood, pretending to be a high class setting. But this is a run down environment and not worth the price nor the wait. People who ate at the buffet seemed much happier so do that for lunch and save yourself $$$$$ for making your entree selections.

Went and had buffet lunch with friends . It had a good spread and the food tastes good. It's black dal makhini tastes really good . Overall worth a visit . The staff is courteous .

Best North Indian food I've eaten outside of India! Loved the tandoori lamb, Bukhara daal, and garlic naan! Excellent service and great location!

Went here while on a business trip with 5 colleagues. We decided to basically order family style. The dishes we ordered were: *Gazab Ki Boti - Cubes of lamb roasted in a clay oven, cooked with ginger, chilies, and freshly ground spices. *Chicken Vindaloo - Morsels of chicken in a hot and tangy sauce, not for the faint-hearted. *Chicken Makhani - Chicken pieces roasted in a clay oven and tossed in a creamy tomato sauce. Unquestionably the most versatile delicacy in the north of India. *Kurkuri Bhindi - Fresh crispy okra tossed with onions and spices sprinkled with fresh coriander. *Kadai Paneer - A semi-dry and colorful preparation of homemade cottage cheese cooked in a wok with bell peppers and tomatoes. We also ordered rice and two types of bread, garlic naan and onion kulcha. The food was great as was the service. The vindaloo could have been spicier, but overall a great Indian dinner!

i've had many Indian lunch time buffets in several cities, but this one had the largest selection and was excellent! Everything from samosas to chicken tikka to tofu and paneer plus veggies and even lamb keema. I wanted to try everything, but ran out of room on my plate! A popular place so it's wise to book. I'll definitely return!

Monumentally mediocre overpriced Indian food. Nothing remarkable about my palek paneer except the price. This is NYC and you can do much better.!

I think this place is overrated for its food. You can definitely get better Indian food than this. We tried the Yellow Daal - which was very good. But the Veg. Biryani was made in Desi Ghee and was too heavy to eat. We could not finish even the smallish portion that was served to us. The waiter was too talkative and intrusive (not appreciated). They served us (complimentary) chaat papdi plate after we ordered our food - but it was too spicy. We didn't like it. The Papad (Poppadum) was equally spicy - not nice at all. Over priced.

I have visited this establishment frequently. Great service. Always loved the food except this particular time. Naan were not well cooked. Daal was amazing as usual. Appetizers were great. Atmosphere is wonderful.

I've been there for lunch , it's a nice and busy restaurant, friendly staff with nice food , lunch time you have 2 options a la carte or Buffet, I did t try the a la carte yet , I think I will go again to this place to taste more food , I liked the dessert.

We have never been to India, but I cook a lot of Indian food and we've eaten in many Indian restaurants in NYC. Bukhara Grill is one of the best. We ordered samosas, chicken tikka masala, a lamb curry, garlic naan, and rice. Everything was delicious. It's not one of the curry-in-a-hurry places like you'll find on lower Lexington. The ambiance here is sophisticated and it's pricey, but worth it.

I was in New York for business in August 2012 - first two days alone, then another two days in company with a colleague. I should certainly have written this review sooner than I have - but better late than never. While walking around alone looking for a place to have dinner and in the mood for indian food, I stumbled upon the Bukhara Grill. I went in, and after a short wait was directed to a table on a small balcony facing away from the street. So nice to have an undisturbed outdoor location, it did a lot to improve the overall experience. The waiters were very friendly and helpful in a quite full restaurant, and treated me very well even though I was alone. The food was among the best Indian I've had, served very apetizingly in a small copperware pot and accompanied by the largest Naan bready I ever saw (and tasty at that). When my colleague joined me a few days later and heard of this, she asked if I minded going again since she too loves indian food. So we went back, and were again seated on the balcony. The waiters recognized me, and again gave an excellent service with the same good food quality. After we paid, but before they saw how we tipped, they brought us not just a glass each, but a small decanter of golden liquid (tasting like some sort of cognac or similar) and asked us to please enjoy and not rush to finish and leave. Overall, a place I would definitely recommend, and visit again the next time my travels take me to New York.

I have been going to this place since it opened up. They have maintained the quality all these years. All my friends love their mushrooms and potato filled naans. Everything here is great, food, ambiance and service. They even cater for huge Indian weddings.

Awesome is the word, replica of Famous Bukhara in New Delhi made Famous by ITC Group, BUT THIS RESTURANT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH ITC but the setting is very similar to that in terms waiters attire, napkins and way onions are presented etc etc. food is great and best enjoyed with Jack Daniels or Good Single Malt ..particularly on windy winter evenings of new York..i visit this restaurant each time in am in New York.

We went there again and took 10 other people with us. The age range was from 6 yrs to 45 yrs, from different parts of the world. The staff was courteous and accommodated all our nuances. The food was amazing. Not too oily, not crazy spicy. There Tandoor (grilled) food is the best I've had in a long time. I even ate dessert!

Bukhara was not bad, it was just not fabulous for the price. We ordered 3 types of bread and to be honest they all looked and tasted about the same. My lamb dopiaza was good but I've had better at a local restaurant in Pennsylvania. AND everything is extra...they don't even give you basmati rice with your entrée. We didn't drink and dinner averaged $65 per person.

Avoid at all costs! I am extremely unwell this morning after a disgusting meal last night!! A young man took our order and shortly after ordering he said, 'yes, that should be enough food for you'. The chicken biryani dishes arrived and talk about spice! So much spice that the dish became uncomfortable to eat 🤮 The owner came to the table and shrugged when we told him ' the dish is too hot' and explained ' that's what the yogurt is for'. How unhelpful! Even with the yogurt, the dish was painful to eat. When the dishes were being collected, the owner blamed us for ' not ordering mild dishes'!! How rude ! You never blame the customer! Besides I said ' your staff never gave us the option. It is YOUR responsibility to make sure the customer is satisfied with their food. It was our first time eating here, how were we to know that there was a spice option ?' Paying 125$ for a rubbish experience and a rubbish meal.

One of the worst service received , very impolite staff specially the manager Gary who has no respect for clients, food was horrible ,naan were cold, expensive, not worth there are better options

Bukhara is autentic all around--robust mountain seasonings, courteous and warm service and you are treated as royalty. Must try--Potli Samosa, Mahi Tandoori and And Gazab ki Boti--lamb cubes in clay oven--although you may find them a bit too dry so make sure to ask to make them succulent w extra seasonng For veggies Paneer (indian curd cheese) Dilruba is a tasty dish to try. For desserts try Shakori Rasmalai but unless you have a incurable sweet tooth this and all other Indian sweets are too cloying to the point your taste buds are smothered in syrup and flavorings--but then that's my take. Prices are reasonable for the ambience and offerings--$20-$23 for mains, $6-8 for appetizers Definitely worth repeat visits.

While Bukhara is in Uzbekistan, the cuisine in this restaurant seems more Indian than what we think of as Uzbeki. I liked the butter chicken and two kinds of tandoori chicken, saag, paneer, dhal. Desserts of carrot halwa and kheer were also Indian. Grilled vegetables with spices and green beans with lentils were different. I liked it all. Service was efficient and cordial. Seating is a bit crowded because this place seems quite popular. At $18.95 for this wonderful buffet, I understand why and have been back many times.

Standard Indian food, Food not bad, chosen from a short menu. They brought us warm white wine. Paid 70$ for one main dish each: unacceptable. Very noisy environment. Hasty service .

My husband and I had a delicious meal. We shared the lamb stew. The lamb was very tender and flavorful. We also had an order of dal, an order of rice and garlic naan. My only complaint is the price seemed very high for what we got. However, everything tasted great.

Pros: Nice atmosphere, friendly waitstaff (despite other recent reviews), good service, food was tasty....rice was delicious, tikka sauce excellent as was the Naan bread. Cons: Our chicken, while tasty, was of lower quality—ie-rubbery and plenty of gristle... Not what you’d expect to bite into at a place like this. Also, i felt it was pricey for what we got... There are better restaurants back home for about half the price....granted, it’s NYC, but nevertheless... So, in conclusion, if the prices were maybe 20-30% lower, and the chicken was of higher quality (where all pieces served were 100% edible), then i would definitely give it a 5.

I guess one of our NY friend recommended this and especially if you from India and crave for Indian food you don't mind exploring it. We were welcomed by a sweet lady at the hotel (if m not wrong and could remember it her name was Reshma/Seema), she suggested we had the ghost curry - Balti Ghost with Naan and as I am a hardcore rice eater had Basmati Pulao. They served us a complimentary Chat dish and must tell you it was yumm (considering I have had lot of chaat options in Mumbai/Delhi). They also do serve buffet for lunch but as we went for dinner had to settle for à la carte. Overall experience was good and recommend to all Indians/non Indians craving or feel like having Indian food.

This was a wonderful discovery . They have great food and impeccable service . We really enjoyed their lamb ribs and their “saag” . Drinks were exceptionally good too . Definitely worth a visit

Nice food kabobs were yummy, Naan was huge and soft overall great food and Vivek was awesome and gave us great service. Will be back definitely!

I stumbled across this place as I was walking back from the UN on 49th street. Tucked away in a corner, sits the Bukhara Grill. The first site of an Indian Restaurant is enough to send hunger pangs in Manhattan....specially if its been ageas since you had one! I walked in and was greeted with friendly staff and walked up where there was a fantastic buffet spread waiting for me! The ambience is very nice and the team is very professional. The buffet is good and starts with Indian street food classics like paani puri, aloo tikki chaat and then moving to a live vegetable grill and meat grill, followed by vaiours Indian pickles and sides. The main fare had a quite a few items from vegetables, to paneer, chicken and mutton along with a delectable dal bukhara. The breads were hot and fluffy and kept coming. The pulao was a definite try! For desserts these guys had gajar halwa and rice kheer, which was just perfect. All in all the bill came to $18 and this is an all you can eat buffet. Try it....its good! The only thing which I found odd was no wifi.....I hope someone's told them its 2014!!!

Eating there many time. Their lunch buffet is very good. The waiters are very attentive and the prices average. I had different chickens and vegetables, everything with great flavors.

I amd my wife on our trip to the us ate many a Times at the Bukhara Grill in NYC Food is just yum Chat papri reminded me of delhi Kababs are just perfect Food served with such a good smile as if you are their personal guests. Absolutely not to miss Place while you are in new york Three cheers to Vicky Vij & Raja Jhanji

On a biz visit to NY, few Indian friends had an urge to have Indian food. Bhukara grill was shortlisted after delebration. Convenient to drive from NY downtown. Service was excellent, and stated with roasted papad and papri chat on the house. I would recommend Balti Gosht with Naan or Tandoori. Dal Bhukara, kadai paneer or pepper chicken was average. My rating is in comparison with Bhukara in Delhi.

Went here for the lunch buffet. Food was very fresh, quality was excellent. Nice variety of items in buffet. Staff was friendly and welcoming. Can't wait to go back

My husband remembered eating at a great Indian restaurant near our hotel 20 years ago. We did a bit of research and landed at the Bukhara Grill. Turns out this was not the restaurant he ate at but it was an amazing find! Our family of 5 walked in about 5:30pm on a Saturday night. They had room for us but if it was any later they would not have had room for us. Highly recommend you make a reservation so you don't miss out. The service and food were impeccable! It wasn't a cheap meal but what nice restaurant in New York is?

My brother and I used to frequent Bukhara Grill regularly when he was a student at NYU. So it was with fond memories that we returned for dinner this past week. Service: Sorry but the waiters are a bit strange...they really try to upsell, which is annoying, but besides that they hover, and not in a good way. Definitely left me with an odd feeling. Food: Not as good as I remembered. -- Lamb Biryani - my brother had this and enjoyed it, I don't eat meat so I can't give my thoughts. -- Mixed Vegetable - nothing to write home about. Just okay. -- Plain Rice - it was...plain rice. Nothing else to add here. -- Chicken Tikka - again my brother enjoyed this, I can't comment on this dish. -- Chutneys were tasty! Spice Level: Bukhara excels here...nothing is too spicy! Prices: Average for NYC I guess. But I've had way better food, for less $ in Murray Hill. Bottom Line: My fond memories are now replaced with visions of the strange waiters and average vegetarian food. I don't think I'll return (unless my brother makes me).

We visited at bukhara for dinner last week of august it is nice place. But let me share my experience it was wonderful well organised food was hot and very presentable very good portion size. i would like to recometds to all

How many screwed up things do I write about this place. First a bit qualifier (before I write), I am a world traveler and have been living in New York for quite a while. Been to lot of Michelin Rated places. So what's wrong with this place - well almost everything- 1. Food - stale food, no taste - that is with the dishes recommend by the waiter 2. Prices - too high for the food and services - trust me no one charges 24 dollars for a chicken dish. 3. Property - Leaking AC dripping water on your head and waiter states "just move a seat madam" 4. Cheating - Charges more than what is in menu - $24 for $23 in menu - see the attached pictures ... when I told them they are overcharging they said it is how it works here... which perplexed me thinking this is Not New York - how can someone do that here? Are there no laws? 5. Services - food put on table - not even served ... Please do yourself a favor and go to any other place - be it street food than coming here ...

I had dinner here several weeks ago, and still recall the wonderful tastiness, gracious and caring service, and overall terrific experience. One of the best night's out in my life! I don't get to NYC often, but I will make sure I return here when I get back up north.

I went to lunch with a friend from the UN, which is nearby. He said Bukhara is popular with UN staffers. We both had the buffet lunch. It was the best Indian buffet I have had. Many choices and ample offerings. There were two chicken curries, Tandoori chicken, spinach, a cheese curry, vegetable curry and various chutneys, daal and raita, among other choices. Rice pudding and a carrot pudding were the desserts. Everything was fresh and excellent. We got naan bread when we asked for it. The staff were friendly and efficient. The ambiance was pleasant. There was a steady stream of customers coming in. I would be happy to return.

During my last visit, one of my friend took me to this Restaurant. The Service was very nice, staff was well manered, they were well trained and the Chef was expert in his work. The dishes were proper and taste were authentic. The collection of wine was uptomark. Although if you compare prices to other New York Restaurants you may feel slightly expansive but in reality even in Delhi the rates are not quite different. Only constrain was some space shortage. But overall it was a nice experience with nice food and best service. I feel if you are not a budget tourist and wish to have a authentic Indian food this restaurant is one of the best option.

We were seated outside on a very small balcony. The balcony was so poorly lit we had to use the flashlights on our cell phones to read the menus. The tables were tiny. The menus are ridiculous-they are huge, heavy circles of wood printed on both sides, and the specials are smaller laminated circles of wood. Then there is also a drink menu and a wine menu which is on a split wine bottle which opens up. There is no earthly reason for that awkward mess. We ordered a special appetizer, Vegetable Manchurian. Sadly, the beautiful vegetables were all ground up, rolled into balls, fried and plopped in the sauce, thereby rendering the vegetables utterly unrecognizable. Our entrees came in the typical small metal cauldrons, with the exception of our chicken, which inexplicably came in a small pail. The chicken was delicious. Service on the balcony was erratic and it was difficult to get water refills. The garlic naan was delicious and appealing. However, the Kashmiri naan, in addition to the typical raisins, appeared to be stuffed with finely chopped maraschino cherries, giving it the unappealing appearance of a nosebleed. While the lentils and the kofte we had were tasty, as was the chicken, the food was fairly pricey for what you receive. And the poorly lit balcony, the spotty service, the ridiculous menus, and the disappointing appetizer, would make me reluctant to return to this restaurant when there are so many other good Indian restaurants in the area.

We were a group of 6, with reservations. It was late in the evening and the lighting dark, so I didn't pay much attention to the surrounding. We ordered a few dishes and most of them tasted good. I thought the grilling was done better than most places. I would definitely recommend this to those who love their food grilled. The Nans were large and delicious. Service was fun and efficient, except a guy named Vivek. Avoid him if you can , the others were more patient and kind. My friends found him obnoxious and overbearing.

My fiancée and I had a food tasting setup with each our respective family members. Bringing 8 family members to a food tasting can be over whelming for any restaurant owner, and I respect that opinion. With that said, we had already asked if it will be okay to bring our parents to our food tasting along with each of our siblings, making the total to 8 people. My brother and his wife made it to the restaurant earlier as they live closer to this location than my fiancée and our parents. He walked in, he was greeted by Mr. Raj, and was told he will only be able to accommodate the reservation for 4 and do A la carte for the additional four members who joined which he will discount (this was never asked for, but it was a nice Gesture on his behalf). Though this was discussed with him on the phone and he was ecstatic to meet the family and parents. Before arriving to the restaurant our family had discussed initially we will have a separate check to begin with, because it’s not accommodating for any restaurant owner to feed 8 members on-the-house. With all that said in mind, we get seated and moved upstairs to our table, and we begin to place our order for A la Carte awaiting for them to eventually bring our “Food Tasting Food”, so my fiancée decides to go downstairs asking him about when will the “Food Tasting” menu be presented to us, so we can critique it, to which Mr. Raj tells her, we haven’t started the Food Tasting Menu yet, but you have already had $500 worth of food from the menu, “it seems like as if you’re here to celebrate someone’s birthday rather than food tasting”, but I will give you a discount because you’re here for food tasting, to which my fiancée replied we don’t need your discount and comes back upstairs. She tells me what happened and I go down ferociously to go speak to Mr. Raj, prior to going down, I asked all my family members to stop eating and I will be closing out the check due to what he actually told my Fiancée. I speak to Mr. Raj and he tells me usually food tasting is done with 2-3 people, not 8… I am sorry, this is the first time I am getting married, but I don’t see myself finalizing on food for my wedding without my parents approval nor hers. I asked him to close me out and do not provide me with a discount, I would like to pay the full menu price, to which he still charged $237 after discount, but I insisted him “Please charge me the full menu price, and I don’t have any interest of your goodwill with a discount, because that is not why I was there to begin with”, he then went back upstairs and charged us the entire $427, this was my second restaurant with food tasting, but I can assure you, it was a miserable one filled with agony and embarrassment. The food wasn’t the greatest, the Vegetable Manchurian for over fried, Spring rolls were rock solid hard(very oily) again overly fried. Though, the Lamb chops and the Haryali Chicken were great options on the menu. OBVIOUSLY I won’t be proceeding with his services, but I can assure you there are plenty of other Dinner option in NYC that can take you back to India with their taste, for e.g. my option provided below. We did walk over to an Indo-Chinese joint “Spice Symphony” over on 50th and 3rd. somethings do happen for a reason, and I can assure you this place was by far and hands down the closest Indian Chinese and Indian food I’ve has so far in NYC.

I went to Bukhara for lunch and I can suggest that its better than many other restaurants in the city, but surely not the best.

A visiting executive requested Indian food and we chose Bukhara. I am not a big Indian food fan, but this was outstanding For appetizers we started with Potli Samosa which were excellent. With Haryali Tikka, chicken was very tender. Then we ordered Chicken Makhani, Gazab Ki Boti(The lamb was a little spicy for me) and grilled salmon which was very good. The rice we ordered was Basmati Rice Pulao and it was very good. The appetizers seemed spicier than the entrees and all the portions were generous. The service was good, but the environment could be better. This is a very basic venue and has lots of steps. It is not ideal for elderly.

I was seated immediately about 8:30 pm on a Thursday. The service was fast and friendly with reasonable prices considering its location in the city. I had a large plate of grilled veggies that were served hot and spiced wonderfully. Garlic naan bread and a couple ice cold Kingfishers rounded out a satisfying meal and slightly over stuffed patron at $44. I consider this meal an average price for Manhattan, but above average taste, portions, and service. There are hundreds of restaurants with several blocks. I have not tried them all, but if I wanted lots of spicy Indian food for dinner, I would go back to back to Bukhara Grill. With the array of copper serving dishes, it appears a buffet is available for lunch.

You can't get it right even if you've named it that way !! Yes this is named after our all time fav Bukhara in Delhi and they have tried to copy it to the dot with the only exception of prices which is higher in NY. So I went there with a bunch of work friends after a late night workshop. We were close to 20 people and firstly they had a tough time seating us together. After we spread our wings the food was ordered post recommendations from the management and I must say that it was better than any other place in US but nowhere close to an authentic Indian eating place. We ordered a non veg platter and some panned tikkas and I personally liked the planner more over meat. In main course too the presentation was ok and food was a lot salty. Maybe I expected it to be close to what I have been used to eating in Delhi however this place is far - both in taste and distance !!

This is the worst place to eat in New York. We took our 3 children and informed the staff several times about our children's severe nut allergy. The staff failed to listen or to take this seriously. Our children have had a serious reaction to the food and have been very sick. In addition they charged us for all the food which we didn't even touch. If anyone has any type of allergy then you need to avoid this place. Awful. And there was no apology even the manager pretended not to notice.
Best Indian food in NY City
If I had the option to give 6 out of 5 I'd give that. When my husband and I went to have dinner here we were quite skeptical based on the reviews we read. Also when we saw the menu we found it to be a bit pricey. BUT When we tasted the food, it turned out to be the best I have ever had. Being a hardcore foodie Punjabi, very few Indian restaurants fall under my fav. list and this one was exceptional. I would recommend - Starter - Chicken malai kabab Main Course - Daal Bukhara and any other chicken/lamb main dish Bread - 1 garlic naan (its too big so easily 2 ppl can share)
