Why do so many otherwise legitimate restaurants mistreat eggs? If I had a nickle for every mediocre scramble I've been served, I'd have enough to ... well ... buy a plate of Les Ouefs Vapeur at Buvette. And I'd gladly do it because these are eggs shown respect. Rich, runny--not raw, but not quite a custard, the kind of eggs that will make you question all the eggs you've eaten before. (And I mean that sincerely, not the way people now days mean "slightly-better-than-average" when they say: "Those Brussels sprouts were life-changing.") It doesn't hurt that Buvette is cute, cute, cute--sort of Parisian, despite all the Americana hanging on the walls. The space is dominated by a big bar, at which none other than Mario Batali was perched eating, you guessed it, a plate of eggs when last I stopped in. His current circumstances, and the misdeeds and alleged misdeeds that led to them, are beyond the scope of this review, but there's no denying that he's a man who knows how to cook and to eat, and he, too, takes his breakfast at Buvette.

Food is very good, a bit limited for dietary restrictions such as Vegans. Service can be extremely disoriented on rush hours, not what you expected for the prices they charge. All tables are cramped to accommodate as many guests as possible.

Went on New Year's Day for brunch. Place was buzzing. Hip crowd. Wall-to-wall people. Excellent food and great service. If in the West Village, Buvette is a must.

Very tight interior, tables are very small and the chairs are quite small as well. Service was good and my waffle was good as well. Prices are a bit high and portion sizes are bit small, but kind of expected in NYC.

Yes, the grilled cheese and other lunch menu items were expensive (and not very large) but they were SOOOO good. So not cheap but very tasteful

Nice place, often crowded but well worth the wait. This place often reminds me of California, simple ingredients but extremely well prepared and very fresh. Wonderful domaine tempier bandol. Very friendly service.

We eat at Buvette every time we are in New York and it never disappoints! Service is great and food amazing. You probably have to wait for a table and the seating is tight, but it all adds to the experience, don’t miss it!

Amazing food, excellent wait staff, French style cozy however, the Bloody Mary is HORSERADISH HEAVY!

Looking for a great Brunch spot I stumbled on this treasure. In a cozy little spot in Greenwich Village this place isn’t big in size but is huge on flavor and authenticity! The speed of service as well as the hospitality is quite impressive. All of the food comes from a small space behind the bar and the two ladies executing service do so quickly and seamlessly, it is truly amazing how much food came out of such a small space. The food was amazing! The Jamon Cru (thinly sliced prosciutto with scrambled eggs and toast) was hands down awesome! The eggs were perfectly scrambled the prosciutto is salty and delicious to make the perfect combination. The French toast was full of flavor on a bed of creme anglaise topped with fresh berries and powdered sugar. I was intrigued by the poached fruit as the bartender described it so we got that too! It had pears, figs and apricots topped with creme fraiche. The melody of flavors were very unique with a nod to winter in hints of cinnamon and cloves. This will certainly be on the permanent list of places to visit when in NYC!

If surrounded by fine wine in a buzzing atmosphere eating wonderful food is your thing, then Buvette is your kind of place. We queued for breakfast! Buttermilk waffle sandwich of eggs and bacon was a new but quite delicious experience. For a Londoner the portions were sensible too. A pity it was too early for a glass of wine but the choice was extensive and the prices reasonable. If breakfast is anything to go by then lunch or dinner must be excellent. We can hardly wait to return

I love this place! Early breakfast is a wonderful thing here. Charming and delicious. I only wish the tables were larger as they are pretty minute. But otherwise a little NYC gem.

Ridiculously over publicized with queues every day, we were lucky that having passed the queue whilst walking in the area, found no queue in our return. Was very disappointed with breakfast and found staff person taking orders quite off hand. Having asked for a dry cappuccino and explained what it was, was told in a rude dismissive way that “in this country that is a makiato”. I insisted that no, but then gave up and took a very medicocre makiato.

Crazy air con when it’s terribly cold outside, guests squeezed here and there, tiny dishes for a considerable price, loud music killing the charm, waiters in a hurry to see you out... I understand this is NYC and everything, but this place is expensive for what it offers. Can’t recommend it.

Buvette is a terrific little french place with breakfast as well as late night food. Swung by to have a light meal before a flight home. Very limited options for vegans (they didn't even have non dairy milk so I just ordered espresso) so plan accordingly if you are restricted with your diet. Highly recommend.

This is a very popular brunch place. You are being squeezed to an impossible bunch. Food is nice but pricey and does not justify the line and the lack of comfort.

Wonderful restaurant. Wait staff was knowledgeable and attentive. Atmosphere was cozy and inviting. Food was delicious.

Delicious! I had a ginger soda which I loved and I shared the Belgium waffle and avocado toast with my sister (in the picture). I would defiently go again. We sat at the end of a long table and it wasn't extremely spacious. Despite that, we really enjoyed it.

I went to Buvette with my husband, son and daughter on April 2018. I had read that food is very good, so we were in NYC for a week on vacations and planned to go there for lunch. The restaurant is small and probably you will have to wait to get a table but believe me, waiting is worth because the food is so good! We had the waffle egg and it was delicious and what to say about the coffee, very good!! The ambience is so nice like a Parisian bistro! Will highly reccommend Buvette!!!

Arrived here for brunch on a Sunday morning, after being told we would have to wait for 25mins for a table (which was fine by us) we were seated within 10mins. What followed was bliss - sat at the bar we observed the professional and unbelievably hard working staff steam eggs, prepare food and serve coffee, despite the level of demand our waitress was attentive, patient and helpful and the food was sublime. Coffee amazing, juice fresh, steamed eggs a triumph. Ambience was through the roof, a pleasure to be a customer - I would love to go back every day.

We unfortunately discovered this place the last day of our trip, I LOVED IT. The location is really nice and cozy, perfect for a Sunday morning. The ingredients were fresh and perfectly cooked, I suggest this place to everyone!

We stayed here for a brunch and some drinks. Althought we had to wait a while for a table and the place is a bit pricy, whole experience inside was great and totally worth it. Our waitress was really nice and fast. I really recommend this place!

Excellent food - delicious, authentic, and rich! Every dish we had was better than the next - pesto tartan, steak tartare, croque monsieur, coq au vin, and the creme brûlée and tarte tartine. Unfortunately, there is a lot more that just the quality of the food that make a great restaurant experience. To start, the place is so tiny - the tables are tiny, the plates are tiny, the glasses are tiny . . . at 5'10" and 180lbs, I am not necessarily a big guy but I felt like I was inside a dollhouse - cute for the first three minutes, but once silverware is falling off the table and you are knocked by the server more than three times, and your neighbors spill their drink, the mood quickly spirals downward. The place is way too cramped. The backless stools are incredibly uncomfortable and add to the annoyance and discomfort. I would highly recommend going without any bags, coats, scarves, hats, or anything extra. Also recommend not going very hungry. Every dish is served more like a tasting serving and at $16 - $18 a plate, dinner can quickly add up. Fortunately, you can't really fit two or three plates on the table at the same time. I must emphasize that the food is truly delicious. Glad I went but probably won't be running back.

Love the location, the atmosphere, the service, the chow. My wife and I enjoyed our time here very much.... definitely unique and worth a try. Would be great to have a little more space... very tight and tiny tables that just about fit your plates. But it's worth dealing with that to enjoy the rest. The atmosphere is superb. The photos give a you a good idea of the vibe. The chow is very good, and there are a lot of professional servers to make sure everything is in order. A very French feel. The menus.... so cute and perfect. The coffee is fantastic, strong. I enjoyed my Jambon Cru. Preferred it over the Waffles, which my wife ordered.... she liked them. The orange juice is fantastic. Next time I need to try the apple tarte which looks amazing.

Not too stuffy at all, in fact the atmosphere was casual, food was fancy. 4 of us (kids 10/12) for breakfast, it was busy we waited 20 min, it was fun to watch passers by, they served us coffee while we waited. Food was good, worth the wait.

We walked passed this little restaurant when we were strolling through the neighborhood, and because of its charming look and Michelin recommendation we went in to get a businesscard. A nice lady at the bar (who was having lunch) recommended us to eat there and said it was always busy so said we should arrive early for a table. We came back that same night around 6 and had a lovely (small) table across the bar. The restaurant is charming and French and has a very nice ambiance. We ordered a few dishes to share; anchovies tartarine, beet salad, the cod, the gratin and the coq au vin (served with very nice gratin!) Every dish tasted nicely and like France. The chocolate mousse after worth’s was a bit compact and heavy but still delicious and we could take with us what we didn’t finish. The air-conditioning was on and above us which made it a bit cold. Our server was too lovely, complements to that! We were very glad that we visited and recommend everyone to do the same!

Three of us ate brunch at Buvette on Saturday morning. We had to wait outside for fifteen minutes to be seated. We all chose the waffle sandwich, though my vegetarian wife and daughter decided not to include the bacon. The buttermilk waffle was perfect, laced with a hint of maple syrup, with a sunny side up egg and gruyere cheese to top it off. The coffee was good, but pricey at $6.50 for the flat whites. The staff were attentive. It's worth a trip downstairs to the bathroom just to see the wicker baskets full of fruit and the extensively stocked wine cellar.

If you are annoyed by long waiting queues then this place is NOT for you. We entered after one hour but at least our expectations were met. Minimal menu with tasty dishes! Portions are not very big, nor small either. If you have got bored by same old things then this alternative choice is recommended. Staff is very polite! Sitting in the bar is not the best option since a lot of plates come out from there and you might need to move around.

Very cute little spot. Busy and wonderful atmosphere. Come alone or with friends. Steamed eggs with caviar is a knockout.

We enjoyed our food however the prices and attitudes may have us look else were on our next visit Can get pricey
Awesome place
Had the best ever breakfast here - attentive, helpfull, honest and polite service. A little gem. Go if you can
