Amazing treat

By snowy1968 |

On thanksgiving whilst on a mad hunt for last minute suitcase to hold all our margins to take back home later that night to England, We stumbled on Cafe 28!! Absolutely amazing . Food extravaganza. All made freshly and cooked, good value including coffee too! My boyfriend had a pastrami hot flatbread which came with crisps , whilst I had the make your own hot wrap- avocado, peppers, spicy chicken, artichoke, tomato and fancy lettuce all chopped and bound together then rolled in a wrap and panini grilled- heaven Can't wait to return when we hopefully go back to our lovely New York

Dependable deli

By DavidDundonald |

Fresh food served daily for breakfast , lunch and dinner. Although it is more of a takeaway venue, we grabbed and ate breakfast here and weren't disppointed. The food ws good quality and you pay by weight. Service is very disjointed however. If you were on your way somewhere inportant, I'd give it a miss.

Good for a quick bite

By sradmd |

While perusing the holiday window decorations along Fifth Avenue we decided to get a quick bite to eat at this restaurant. It is a self serve establishment but they did have a salad section where you could have the counter person put together a salad with your own fixings. I can't comment on the hot items but I can certainly say that the salad was just "okay". The greens were fresh enough but some of the fixings that I had added seemed like they were a bit old, such as the cucumbers, the pickled jalapeños, and even the broiled chicken, which was a bit on the dry side. I would pick another restaurant for a quick meal if I was given the choice again.

Plenty of Choices

By Helen B |

It was my friends and Is first visit to NYC and we're meeting up with friends that morning to go to Empire State building. They had found this cafe a few days previous and recommended it to us. The 4 of us went and my friend had a muffin and cup of tea and I went for a grilled chicken with cheese sandwich and a cuppa. There were lots of hot breakfast things to choose from, go bagels muffins, and fresh fruit in cartoons, and cereals, everything for on the go and a few tables to sit at. We found quite a few more similar establishments and called in either for lunch or something to take out.

Great lunch

By John W |

Great selection of foods from a hot or cold buffet. The food was absolutely delicious, sorry I only got to come here once!!!

Great value & great options

By Jacs2806 |

This is a great cafe, which is loads bigger on the inside with a great choice of homemade smoothys, lunch options and also a self serve hot and cold buffet. Great value too with a place to eat in too.

Cute little cafe

By Andi54 |

This is a great place -- LARGE variety of foods, reasonably priced.

Best value in NY!

By Kim2615 |

This was the best value food place in NY during our visit. The options were amazing, plenty of fresh fruit, salads, hot meals, sandwiches, cakes, coffee & soooo much more. We visited here numerous times during our week in NY & would highly recommend it for choice, value & freshness.

Quick Breakfast

By dbieniek |

We were visiting the city for the day. Our train got in around 830. We were walking from Penn Station and stumbled into the cafe. We stopped to get a bagel. The two of us got bagels with cream cheese and we split a piece of cake that had chocolate mousse. it was all delicious and reasonably priced. The bathroom is a little gross, but that is to be expected.

Awesome NYC Deli

By Tracey E |

This is a great NYC Deli and cafe! Staff are friendly and helpful. Wanted a real breakfast on my last day. I'll be back when I visit in the spring! To go, cafe, and baked goods were fresh and enticing.

Great little breakfast place and shows that NY doesnt need to be expensive

By PhileasFogg77 |

We used this for breakfast for three mornings of our stay and also for an early dinner one night. Simple service, great fresh cooked food, and huge choice. Shows that the city does not need to be expensive to get fresh good food. Only downside was only a few tables which get busy quickly but worth waiting for

Breakfast

By Blueannie59 |

Not your usual diner but a great breakfast. Recommended from the hotel and NYPD use it so that meant the food was excellent. Great choice and all freshly made.

Large choice and good quality

By AnaDeSoto |

We stayed a week in New York and had breakfast every day at this deli. You have everything you can wish for: bagels, wraps, omelettes, sandwiches, soups, excellent fruit, grilled vegetables etc. Prices are reasonable. You can have lunch and dinner also. The place is very popular with locals and tourists, but you don't really have to wait too much for your meal to be ready. I really recommended this deli if you don't have much time and don't want to spend too much money.

Salvation for the jetlagged

By albert z |

Great location, comfortable seating and value for money. We we flew in last night and woke up early with coffee deprevation headaches. We found our shining light in the otherwise darkened streets. They're open 24 hours /day and have a great variety of edibles. The only downside being the coffee is American style (aka weak), though there is a possibility for an espresso boost. Next time. We tried an egg/turkey breakfast English muffin, which was surprising nice. Definitely worth checking out!

You find everything

By Desigua |

24 hours restaurant, bar! It's in the fifth Avenue, very closest to the Empire and ti the Museum di sex. You Can buy everything to satisfy your hungry!

A hidden treasure!

By frenchfancy9 |

This is just the most wonderful place and made out top ten places to go whilst in NYC!! You could actually eat breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner here! They sell everything! The fruit/vegetable salad bar is incredible and the stuffed vine leaves are delicious! Their bagels are soooo good and they have PG Tips tea!! The yoghurt, fruit, granola bowl is wonderful and everything is superb value. This is a real treat.

Very good take out food

By Tina |

We stayed across the road from this cafe and twice throughout our stay visited their buffet take-away area - it was perfect if you had been out all day and didn't fancy eating out that evening. The selection was great, everything from salads to noodles, seafood to meat and rice to fruit. Everything appeared of a good quality. You could also get take-away coffee/cakes here too.

Great for breakfasts highly recommend

By jla113 |

We love cafe 28 for breakfast as they have a huge choice. You can’t beat an everything bagel with sausage, bacon, eggs and cheese washed down with a large latte to get you set up for a days shopping on 6th. The omelette are great too. Highly recommend for a cheap but tasty start to your day

Good rest stop in midtown

By paxa |

We stopped here to take a break and to while away some time as we had to meet up with another friend on Lexington in about an hour. Can't say anything about the food here since we only had some coffee and hot chocolate (which wasn't the best from the machine – way too sickly sweet – wouldn't recommend it). However the upper level seating area – although a bit dark and worn out looking - is a good place to sit for a while if you need a place to rest (and use the restroom). There are some tables and high stools downstairs too along the front window but those tend to get filled up faster.

One of the best quality/price deli

By giorgiom707 |

Located on 28st and 5Av, this deli close to Madison Square Park offers great variety of food (all the deli's classic, from soups, to salds, to panini, sushi, sandwiches, little grocery, snacks, beverages and hot and cold buffet), fresh and one of the lowest price/weight in midtown. Two floors with tables, clean, friendly staff and open til late, what else? Good pick for any time in the day!

Good selection, 24 hours, good prices

By gigicape |

Cafe 28 was around the corner from our hotel and we are happy that we found it! Huge selection, good prices, open 24 hours.... what more can I say?!

What a breakfast!

By Ian M |

So much choice & all freshly made, typical american diner, just beware if your sitting in all plates & cutlery are plastic. What you get and it doesn't cost a lot, sets you up for the rest of the day to explore New York

A place for breakfast

By Papaki65 |

Great selection for breakfast, fast and efficient service and you can't beat the price. Everything is cooked to order in front of you.

Tasty and convenient

By Gary D |

I used Cafe 28 as my breakfast location during a recent visit to NY. Mainly used the self service buffet bar - wide selection of hot and cold foods. Price is based on weight irrespective of what you choose. Set me up for the day nicely.

great food but wow, pricey

By wabitop |

thats about all I can say. its a great place to get quality food but get that credit card ready. everything is overpriced to an almost comical extent. but they know that the convenience of their location is enough to merit the prices. being a vegan, they gave me many choices for meals on the go.

Pretty good quick lunch

By threedragons |

Pretty good place to grab a quick lunch. Lots of choices and decent prices. Bathroom could use a good cleaning but hey it was a free bathroom to use in NYC so can't complain too much.

A total gourmet experience for every day meals

By Riccardo S |

Bumped into this place by pure chance, but it was a great surprise. The range of food is spectacular and everything we tasted was very good, except for the coffee (yes, that needs serious improvement). The place is obviously popular because it was teeming already at 11:50. We will go back.

Good variety at lunch

By Natalie1204 |

It’s one of those places where you can pile all you want into a box, it’s weighed and then you pay. I would put it down to good value for money and good quality too. The breakfast omelette option on the other hand was quite expensive and it was very ordinary. The service isn’t great but I like the food. It’s also convenient and you can pick up basic groceries too

Fresh inexpensive food

By jr532015 |

Great chicken noodle soup. Huge range of choice. A local favourite. Great place for a cheap lunch or breakfast

Very nice

By louisegough5936 |

Lovely food nice choice, fresh and not too expensive, would visit again .. More for a lunch than and evening meal

Great Brekfast - Dont bother eating anywhere else in Chelsea

By Alice T |

This place does a gourmet deli like we Brits could only dream of. After a wildly overpriced breakfast at the hotel on our first morning Cafe28 became our first stop every morning for the rest of our trip. Fresh fruit platters, yogurts with granola and pastries as big as your head were all available along with a large selection of teas (not bad) and coffees (hazelnut decafe was well worth a try). They’d also cook you up eggs, bacon, sausage and fresh pancakes in minutes (McDonalds eat your heart out) Cafe28 also catered for a quick and cheap lunch with enough wraps and types of bread rolls to feed an army and a plethora of fillings. If you fancied it you could even get your dinner here, I watched a Japanese sushi chef making fresh sushi in the morning and on the other side of the shop was soups, lasagnes, Chinese, even roast dinners were available, now I know why you never see Americans cooking on TV. Seriously why don’t we have these in the UK?! Fantastic place (taken from my blog post:http://thee-middlesister.blogspot.co.uk/)

Everything you could want

By Angharad J |

Ate breakfast here over three mornings in NYC, great variety and selection, lunch and dinner options looked amazing too, you can pick up anything you could need/want food wise, great value coffee too

Great deli

By hydro1547 |

We came across this deli by chance on holiday to New York for some breakfast and what an amazing deli. You can get almost anything you like as they have an amazing choice and serves a number of different cuisines. The staff were friendly and there's a small seating area as well if you sit in. We went back three times!

Everything you need at value for money prices

By steviec1211 |

A little gem of a place. Self service but everything available. Fresh Fruit, Pastries, Hot Food of all varieties, Cold drinks, coffee, All 100% fresh. Just serve yourself the quantity of food you want, take it to the till where it's weighed and you pay by the pound. Big upstairs eating area. If you want a quick, value meal this is the place.

Great food on the run

By Lozfromoz98 |

This eatery was recommended for breakfast by our doorman during our stay in NYC. You can either select food yourself from the huge amount of self-serve trays or order hot food from the cooks. Either way the food tastes great and the selection of coffees is huge. For the price we paid we certainly would say it was good value. The only downer was the people cooking behind the counter and taking the orders seemed to be more interested in their conversation instead of the customer. Large seating space upstairs - plenty of room.

The hot buffet is a bit cold to be honnest

By srwrd |

Great place if you are in need of a quick breakfast, lunch or dinner. The meals are fresh, but with no waiting line we still had almost cold food when starting to eat. They may just heat up the buffet a bit more if you ask me.

An Oasis!

By Bill L |

Having travelled from UK to US the day before, and having awoken at 4.00am, with a hunger that was intolerable, I found this place via TA Near me Know. What a find!! Open 24 hours in the Nomad district, this place is great!! Amazing choice of hot and cold food, buffet and fresh cooked American, Asian, European food, all sorts Great range of coffee also . Without any question, I shall be back here at least 3 or 4 times across the rest of my 5 day visit!!

OMG

By BigoBoca |

I was dazzled by the array of food available here. From Chinese, to fresh fruits, from soup to nuts this place has everything available by the pound. It's a HUGE buffet that has tons on it. Buffets can never be great.

Wide Variety of Quality Foods

By cm2333 |

After a leaving a poor location across the street, we were happy to stumble upon Cafe 28 where we were able to have a coffee and cake in a calm and relaxed environment. There is a whole host of food available, but we were only looking for a snack so we enjoyed their delicious M&M cookies and French Vanilla coffee. Most things are self service and then at the end you just go up and pay. I liked it's straightforwardness and chilled atmosphere. We always meant to come back here and get a full brunch, but time slipped away from us! Would definitely go back again.

We love this Deli

By SteveMcNalls |

Always stay near here when in New York and use it for breakfast almost every day. They have a huge variety of food available Reasonably priced with friendly staff, this is great for relaxing and people watching. When we stayed during Irene in 2011, this was one of the locations that stayed open all the time and again maintained quality and standards during that time. Would thoroughly recommend.

really nice

By megvlopes |

It was our breakfast spor every siongle day we stayed in NYC. For 3 or 4 buck you have a really nice breakfast, with milk, coffee, tea or whatever drink you want. And the bagels...? Well, I had there the best bagels ever :)

Popular for good reason

By dpleith |

Having read a few reviews we decided to try it for breakfast. It was busy and what a choice. Took a bit of getting used to the method of ordering etc. Excellent value. Used it for room service at the Broadway Plaza and we had giant burgers! Popular with police officers. Free wifi. Well worth a visit.

Amazing!

By LeBaronRouge |

We found this place via Tripadvisor, given that the hotel we were staying in had a free muffin and coffee breakfast that attracted very mixed reviews. What an amazing place! Even at 8:00am there was everything from ribs to to lasagne available if you wanted it, plus all the conventional stuff like fresh fruits, yoghurt, juices and cooked traditional breakfasts. You just tell them what you want and they cook it to order in front of you - although the foil dishes in which it is served seemed a little odd! The french vanilla coffee was superb for those who like a creamier taste to their coffee. We tried it early evening a snack and found it just as good.

Unremarkable good-looking food

By Sue B |

We liked the choice of food available for breakfast but it didn't live up to appearances. Apparently natural yogurt was sweetened, Pancakes were okay but not piping hot, they were rather thick and stodgy. Don't ask to have your croissant heated through: on one occasion it was toasted and flattened, the second time it was inedible after time it spent in the microwave. We didn't go back for a third breakfast.

nyc secret

By Alexander R |

best chocolate muffin in nyc. it is a,pretty unexpensive place with fast service and a lot of options for a great breakfast. try their muffins, seriously. a breakfast for 2 never costed me 10 bucos here

Useful, not expensive site for a quick lunch or breakfast

By LeonardoTravelling |

I was staying at an hotel close by, and based on the name went there for breakfast. My first surprise was this was more of a serve yourself kind of dinner. That was good as I could selected any combination of sausages, fish, pork, eggs, etc for breakfast (there is also fruit and pastries, but my wife wasn't there, so..bacon) The second surprise was coffee, this place IS called café, I do expect a little respect for the beverage. It was awful, as much that I had to drink tea in my following visits. Note that I kept going back as the food selection was tempting, but I didn't plan to get any coffee from them. I didn't care to get into the bathroom after my first visit. It seems there is only one bathroom and with the quantity people visiting, at 10 a.m. the smell, floor stains, etc are unbearable. Cashiers were rude, trying to move customers quickly, not a big issue but a let down.

Great deli in the heart of New York!

By bbbbbbba |

Ok, New York has lots of them, but this deli is really worth checking out. It has two great buffets, lots of drinks, sweets, fruits, wraps, freshly prepared salads and paninis. This is not a budget option, but it's perfect for food lovers. There is internet access, too.

bad service at the salad bar

By David W |

Their bar says that there are unlimited toppings for the salads, which they should change. I asked for toppings and the server was clearly irritated, not making eye contact, closing the lid before I was finished, brusquely asking me to take my hand off the glass. He then shoved the salad at me after finishing preparing it and glared at me. Then, he and his buddies snickered between each other.

You can't go wrong with their breakfast

By Alex R |

I ate breakfast at Cafe 28. I ordered a veggie omelet, a coffee and a bagel with cream cheese. You obviously can't go wrong with these simple breakfast treats. It was pretty good and it was at a good price. But more importantly, it looked like the café had a large menu. Sadly, I ate here on my last day in NYC and wasn't able to come back to try out anything else. It was actually pretty close to the Gershwin Hotel where I was staying, which is a bummer, because I ate 3 times at the far inferior Essen Slow Fast Food just a block away.

Best sushi of New York!

By LizzyLeiden |

The sushi is unbelievable fresh and tasty, staff nice, and prices are very affordable! We eat here twice during our stay in New York, would have loved to take some home :)

Great location

By StephenM4 |

This place has everything you would want for morning noon and night. It was just around the corner from our hotel and we ate brekkie there each morning. Great service and good prices. The fact that it is packed full of new Yorks finest every day probably speaks volumes about the food and prices

The nicest deli on 5th Ave

By dkformsma |

Really nice food for a good price. From hot buffet to fresh salad bar, from fruits to cupcakes, they have everything! You can mix and match anything you like. Try the Teriyaki chicken!

Good pancakes

By lulu1172 |

Very good place for breakfast, gets very busy early morning. Large choice of various food and buffet looked amazing. No table service, you order at the bar and take it to your table or away but good value for money

GREAT Deli

By lipschick |

Get your breakfasts here. Brilliant food and value. Forget Starbucks / Pret / Pax etc, this is the best by miles!

Amazing but a little confusing

By lamb_bob |

We came here for breakfast one morning as it is one of the places recommended in the hotel directory. Quite intimidating and confusing when you first walk in as no real guidance and very busy - think some simple guidance on the walls for us tourists would be useful. We walked out gathered our breath for few mins and then went back in. Eventually figured out that dishes can be ordered by number and coffee self serve. All the food looked amaze so have an idea of what you want so not standing around like a lemon or holding up the queue - the cook staff have very little patience. We ordered two breakfasts, one with pancakes and bacon and the other with corned beef hash. WOW you get big portions and all comes in foil even if you are eating in. Gorgeous food and great selection of coffee as well. Looked like salads, fresh fruit, juice, bread were all available too - you will not go hungry that is a fact. Would recommend to anyone passing - GO WITH EMPTY STOMACH LEAVE FULL and enjoy..

Breakfast feast your hearts out

By Pauline C |

My friend and i were on our way to the station on 28th street. Our hotel on 31st serves breakfast but expensive to buy every day. We saw cafe 28 and had a look inside You are spoilt for choice. Fresh fruit in abundance bagels omelettes so many different options. Foods beverages salads cold meats, hot food, everything. I was like a kid in a sweet shop. It was frequented by locals and nypd who gave us advice as we were english how to order etc There was extra seating upstairs overlooking the deli main area. Staff were helpful and the food was great for ' on the go " or eating in. Great value especially if on a budget.value for money and tasty.

Great Stuff!

By bekbek32 |

Open 24hrs. Fresh food. Brilliant breakfast pastries, including croissants and danish pastries. Good options for hot food, including egg bagels and bacon sandwiches etc. Good range of hot drinks. Good value food.

Good and inexpensive

By books4me |

A nice break from NYC restaurant prices. A cold and hot buffet, changed for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Excellent option for take away

By Javier_mail2003 |

It was very close to our hotel so we stop a few times for a quick bite. Loved the shrimp salad sandwich and also the salads (avocado, shrimp, capresse, etc)

Very Ignorant Till Assistants!!

By TreatyGunner |

We were staying around the block in the Carlton Hotel so Cafè 28 was very handy. On a positive the food options at the deli are excellent. Quality of food good too. However the ladies at the tills were lacking in courtesy and manners. We must have spent over $200 in there over 7 days. On one evening I went to get a take away pizza in another place. I passed Cafè 28 and popped in for a beer. When one of the till ladies saw the pizza she decided to make life a little difficult for me and asked to see my Id for the beer. Now I'm 37 with greying hair. I look well over 21. When I challenged her she said it was policy. I asked why I could buy beer in there on two previous occasions without being asked for ID? She just grunted. If there was a different deli nearby with as good food we would have went there.

Lovely brekkie

By lmcontrary |

A bit more guidance when you walk in the door looking lost would be nice? Great food though and lovely juices made in front of you. Amazing range of food and drink choices. Be prepared to eat out of a foil pot cos even if your eating in it all comes in take away containers. The omelette was a little sad looking but I recommend the French toast special snd fresh grapefruit juice.

Tasty and Cheap!

By clare w |

If you cant decide what you want for breakfast go here! They have so much choice you will never be disappointed I loved a toasted bagel with cream cheese and a hazelnut coffee, the pancakes are also great! The NYPD seem to enjoy it too, often queing up waiting for their breakfast to take away! I didnt get the chance to try the muffins but they looked amazing as did the fresh fruit piled up every day, which they weight when you go to pay! If youre fed up of Maccie Ds get yourself down there! Enjoy!

Great deli

By John W |

I had breakfast, lunch & dinner, not every day, here and can give this establishment an excellent recommendation.

Amazing Deli

By Lady_H100 |

Something for everyone, spoilt for choice. We used the Deli to purchase lunch before our day out. Great coffee and pastries as well as a selection of wraps and fresh fruit. Friendly service with a smile and great value.

Our new NYC breakfast deli

By Phil C |

Our return to NY saw the shock that our favourite deli Au Bon Gout had closed down. Fortunately over the road is Cafe 28 which provided our usual breakfast fare and took over the mantle of breakfast go to. We always get Lucky Charms, flavoured coffee and a homemade biscuit and it is a good price in a good location and a good place to sit in. We will definitely return here in a couple of years when we return.

Fabulous fresh food, very cheap - can't fail

By sometimesong |

We used this deli every day of our week long trip to New York, for breakfast and occasionally for lunch too. The choice of fresh fruit, salad and veg was excellent, even by New York's very high standards. Great prices too. Friendly and efficient service.

Absolutely fab😃👍👌

By Leigh3825 |

What can I say, so much choice to please us all. Had breakfasts here and they were delicious and very reasonably priced. Fruit, pancakes and maple syrup, croissants, hazelnut coffee!!!!!!! Highly recommend

breakfast

By rubs_12 |

Cafe 28 it's a great place to have breakfast, lunch or dinner it's on 5th and 28 street, they have everything fresh fruit, croissants, eggs, french toast and price very reasonable. I highly recommend it.

AWESOME SELECTION AT REASONABLE PRICES

By LizbethMeg |

Our family chose: fresh fruit, spicy chicken, almond croissant, salad, vitamin water, fresh-made juices, yummy (but lukewarm) plaintains, corn, and wings. That gives you an idea of the variety. The place might have gotten another star but there was an actual dead fly in with the raspberries-- pretty gross. And the almond croissant was definitely only so-so.

Great customer service

By Maria D |

We went on a Saturday morning and the place has few costumers at the time We ordered a soup and two sandwiches The cubano was not good The Italian was average and the chicken soup was Okay We ordered an expresso coffee and it tasted like warmth water The juice that I ordered was fresh they serve it at room temperature I was surprised that you have to pay $1 for a regular plastic cup if you want to drink some water which is free The place is clean and it has a big area upstairs where you can eat and be away from the cold weather Downstairs there are few tables is nice, but is cold when costumers come an leave The price is in the middle range considering that is on the 5th ave New York There are lot of choices to choose from and the environment is nice

Great place

By bellec168 |

What a great place. Great food and definitely value for money. A great selection of sweet and savoury, if you can't anything there to eat I don't know where you will! I went there a couple of times during my visit to New York. It was a busy place but you never had to wait in a queue. Great self serve coffee. Wish we had places like this back home.

Good for a quick bite

By Gerald Karl W |

Hot buffet was good for a quick bite, but some of the food items were only luke warm. Would do it again only when in a hurry and very hungry.

Excellent

By slimdave |

Wow, we had a excellent lunch here. All the food looked fresh and tasty. We had a sub each, very filling and top quality. We came another day during our visit and will do next time in new York. Counter service quick and very good also.

Good value and selection

By MichaelApp2100 |

Wide variety and good quality for a reasonable price. The good reviews were spot on. Cafe 28 is on the revisit list

great food

By farahbuny |

while living in 34th street, i used to pass by this place on my way to work, i had a lot of meetings there, it is a good spot for quick bite ..

Best Lunch Spot

By kiyeran |

My partner works near this area, so we'd always meet up here and enjoy a delicious lunch. The buffet style accommodates my healthy diet, and because of the abundance in selection, it is difficult to get bored of the food. The prices are also reasonable, and I like the Asian options the deli has.

Breakfast is the best time to go

By Adrian T |

You can follow the footfalls of the hordes of off duty cops going here for their breakfast sandwiches, I did and had a really freshly made Turkey cheese and egg on rye. Made in an immaculate grill and with a smile. Also got a large take out box of freshly chopped fruit, all looking perfect. If you want to eat in there's an upstairs seating area and the place has lots of take out items.

Hazelnut Cappuccino

By Miss Bonafide |

This is more than a Deli....this is a one stop all you can find to eat shop. I was impressed with the variety of Lunch/Dinner options that were available...from Seafood to Pasta, Potatoes, Fry rice, Salads, Soup rice. Settled and enjoyed a Sesame seed bagel w/ cream cheese and a hazelnut Cappuccino.

Great food and value!

By ViajeraDC |

Great place for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or a quick bite to eat. Hundreds of choices and affordable prices, lines go fast. Another great recommendation of Tripadvisor.

Superb value and huge choices

By DJM1945 |

We had passed this place earlier in the day and checked on line when we got back to the hotel and as we did not want a huge meal we popped in later. The choices were considerable and the sandwich and yogurt hit the spot and was great value.

So much choice

By TrudiSpeare |

Very Friendly staff and so much choice. Great bagels and coffee very reasonably priced. Loads of fresh fruit too.

Unheralded gem

By Matt M |

You can get EVERYTHING here. I had salmon filet and brown rice from the hot food area for under $10 that was better than anything I ate at any fancy restaurant in New York City. There are tables where you can enjoy wine purchased in the store. The ambiance is nothing to celebrate, but if you want quality food with a huge selection, this is the place to go.

They dont treat us as customers!!!

By Isis Falcao |

The attendents are NOT able to understand any language (english, spanish, ...) So, if you want a quick breakfast and a good service for it, i wouldn't recomend!

Adequate in a pinch

By michael l |

We only had a chance to order a pizza here but the Margherita style we asked for looked more Neapolitan when it arrived at the table, and had cooled a bit. Pleasant staff, sidewalk seating available, did not have a chance to evalutate anything else on the menu. Would be nice if we'd been told at the outset that credit cards were not accepted.

Adequate

By Ryan |

Came here for breakfast on our first full day in New York. Large choice of breakfast foods but it seems as if quantity is outranking quality. The french toast, which we expected to be crisp like fried bread was wet and soggy and the sausages were tasteless. The freshly squeezed orange juice and coffee however were pretty good and the food was reasonably priced. Staff were not overly friendly and and one member of our party used the restroom and said that it was the most disgusting place they'd ever been and this was at 9.00am in the morning so goodness knows how much worse it gets.

Good

By charliegum |

We stayed nearby and came here everyday. They sell PG tips which you can brew yourself there! A godsend for british travellers :)

great place for food

By dancoasterman |

all kinds of food, hot bar and cold, sandwich and what ever you want and its open late. We ate there 3 times and food was always good and friendly staff. You can eat cheap or expensive depends what you get

So yummy!

By fabifabik |

Spent a few days in NYC and luckily we found this place the first morning. Great coffee and amazing breakfast!!! Those home fries will always be remembered. Yum!!!!

Nothing fancy here but the food is great.

By nonobanana |

This is not a fancy place by any means. It is for locals. They have a salad bar, a hot bar, a juice bar, a sushi bar, and a line for take out orders. But they also have tables upstairs where you can bring your food and eat there. Every kind of breakfast dish and omlette and sandwich and bagel imaginable. All super quality and tasty. And really economical. You order and wait just a couple of minutes and your food is ready to go. Most folks order to go and it is fast.

Nice and easy comptoir/desk buffet

By Yarri S |

Affordable and easy buffet in Midtown. I repeated the experience for few lunches. Distinct in term of cleanest. That's it.

FANTASTIC!

We were staying at The Gerswhin which was around the block from this Cafe. We ate here several times for breakfast and dinner and the food was cheap and tasted great. Most mornings we would have bacon and cream cheese bagels. I ate here for dinner one night using the hot buffet - wide selection - and fresh fruit, makes a change in NYC. The food tasted great and I would recommend anyone go here.

Great find

Found this on the first morning just around the corner from the hotel. Open 24 hours, we had great breakfast and late night cheesecake here as well as buying nibbles and pop. Good food, clean, plenty of seating and a basic bathroom. We used it repeatedly.

A little gem in a Huge City

By EastAnglia25 |

Whilst looking for a place to get lunch we came across this place and we were very impressed with the lunch and huge selection of world foods. Everything from Sandwiches to Sushi and Chinese food to buffet foods. The New Yorker sandwich is highly recommended and it’s huge and made with fresh steak and bread. We end up visiting Cafe 28 twice whilst visiting. Check this place out to get a great price and amazing lunch to suit all tastes.

Good deli, but ...

By MrsMc |

I wouldn't recommend this place for breakfast over the many diners that are nearby, unless you're looking to eat on the run. However, this deli has a huge range of lunch / dinner options that are great as a takeout option if you get tired of eating out constantly when in NYC. The New Yorkers certainly know how to do a good deli!!

Great Breakfast!!!

By davyd83 |

My buddy and I walked over here for breakfast as he was showing me around the area. The omelette was outstanding and service was quick. The people at Cafe 28 were outstanding too. I’d love to do it again!

Everything to eat and more!

By mlwschmitt |

Lots of options in their buffet style lines! Made to order sandwiches and many grab-and-go options! Wonderful location!

Great breakfast and the cheesecake is really "New York"

By The_Don_Francisco |

Great location, good and quick service. Price very good. Ate breakfast every day there during my 4 day stay. Also twice took out New York Cheesecake and ate in hotel room. Excellent.

Delicious breakfast, lunch and dinner looked even better!

Enjoyed a pastry and a coffee here on our last morning in NYC and wish we'd found this place earlier. We weren't that hungry and it was fairly early in the morning but the range of fresh salads, fruit, meat, pasta etc on offer had us drooling as we walked around the premises and we would love to go back here next time for a bigger meal next time we are in NYC.

Great food

By littlesue23 |

We stopped for a late afternoon snack and the food was fresh and hot. It varied from sushi, hot food station, pannini, salad and fruit bar. The layout of the food stations was clean and a member of staff was on hand all the time checking the food. Great place to eat.

Great breakfast... Great choice

By Superswindon |

We stumbled into this place by accident but loved the breakfast. I had French toast with sausage. There was so much I struggled to finish it and my lashings of Maple syrup. The choice of all types of food is impressive. Choice, along with the reasonable prices mean I would definitely visit Cafe 28 again.

We were at Cafe 28 in 2014 and was amazing so we came back only to find those who were serving were very rude. We ended up leaving and will never go back. Terrible customer service.

Just on the corner

It's a great little norner stop for a quick and fresh lunch. We all enjoyed our freshly made sandwiches and of course.... cheesecake (:

Love this deli

By golfwidow53 |

I love this New York deli. Full of every kind of food you can imagine right on 5th avenue. Great for people watching from the seating area downstairs. Great selection of coffee's too.

Definitely recommended

Great place to have breakfast. Wide selection, delicate presentation. The people at the counter could do with brightening up a bit, though.

The food!

By James Kapherr |

We stopped in here to get a drink whilst waiting for an attraction to open (I won't say which as it will ruin my innocent image). My wife almost passed out from the food choice. We came back for lunch and I have to say the food was delicious. Probably the best food we've had so far in NYC in the last few days. Quite expensive - or was it? Wish my British head would switch off the Up North comparisons lol

When in NY, this is a great alone place to pick up dinner

By cowbulls |

Cafe 28 is a great place to select carryout or eat outside and people watch. They have a large selection of hot and cold foods with various sections. There is a salad and fruit bar, a hot buffet selection and a sandwich area to order a specific item. The food is of a high standard and reasonably priced considering you are in NYC. I like being able to see what I'm getting. This place is a third the price of hotel room service and a lot better. I pick up my dinner there every time I don't have dinner plans when in NYC.

in a city where Deli's seem to be dying, this place tops those that are left...

By MrThomas1981 |

We first stumbled upon Cafe 28 back in 2010 and it was truly excellent then. Returning 8 years later and recommending it for breakfast to the family was always going to be daunting - had they managed to maintain the same standard for 8 years? Our fears were unfounded. Although the range of filter coffees is slightly smaller now, the food is still delicious and freshly cooked. Hot and cold buffet sold by the lb, fresh cooking counter, wood fired pizza, even a sushi counter, this place has it all. The best bit is the upstairs dining room - so many places don't have room for you to enjoy the food. Not so here- plenty of space. Prices are also reasonable for NYC. The same breakfast cost us twice as much at another deli near times square. You really can't go wrong eating here. Its so good, you'll probably end up eating more than one meal here!

Fantastic ! You must try this place the food is amazing it’s a real hub of activity so many food stations had breakfast here and take out sandwiches the hot food counters are impressive worth a visit just to look at the impressive food on offer really good staff.

nice gem

I was hungry and it was raining. We saw this cafe and ran in to grab a bite. My wife found us some cheesecake and I ordered a turkey burger from the grill. Really good choice on our part. The service was great and it wasn't so busy. The only thing I can complain about is that they had one bathroom and it seems that the line up was taking forever.

Excellent buffet - not terribly cheap ($6.99), but really good fruit, and a decent variety of other foods.

Delicious, casual and inexpensive - what's not to like?

We stopped in for hot/cold salad bar before a show on Saturday night - great variety and everything I picked out was delicious, especially the huge, fat blackberries. Tab for dinner was $4.86. What a find!

Typical NYC eat-in deli

By cootmom |

Not a lot of choices on 5th Ave. This is a pretty typical eat-in deli but with some Asian entrees. My wallet was either lost/stolen here. So take more precautions than I did - keep it close!

Breakfast buster

By Speedbird56 |

Real travellers never eat breakfast in the hotel-how true! We have breakfast in café 28 every time we visit NYC, Start with a tray of fruit ; watermelon, blackberries, strawberries, honeydew melon, blueberries etc. Then go for the pancakes and syrup or the breakfast sandwich or wrap. Upstairs there's plenty room to sit and watch the hive of activity. Café 28 is on the corner of 28th and 5th Avenue; once you've loaded up it's perfectly located for a stroll up 5th Avenue. We love it as a family.

OK for quick Breakfast

By seyhey |

'nuff said. Reasonably priced and quick service to start the day. My coffee tasted bitter though. TA tells me I have to say more, that reviews must be 50 characters. "More"

So much choice...

By jansjournal |

We stopped to break our shopping trip on 5th Ave and found the choice amazing. Salads, hot food, deserts, prepacked or fresh and cooked while you wait. About $45 for 4 including drinks. I would say the upstairs eating space may of been an after thought as there is no AC. We visited in April with 70 degrees outside and it was warm. There are a few seats downstairs but I'd say its a price we were happy to pay for the choice on offer.

Good tasty breakfast

Popped in for breakfast after a trip up the empire state building. Food was cooked to order and was just what was needed to warm us up.

The good food at Cafe 28

By HeatherValadez |

The food was tasty. The variety of food was great and since the Cafe is open 24 hours that was great for me.

A short walk from NY's greatest hotel...however

By NaeliyaPin |

The food is not consistent. The patrons make up the most friendly part of our experience. It also seems a bit pricy despite the neighborhood.

A great way to eat

By Fender65 |

This is a combination deli, cafe, restaurant. You can shop for convenience food, sit and eat a meal or get a very healthy takeout meal. The variety is huge (sushi, wood fired pizza, burgers and sandwiches, roast meals, excellent soups) and all seemed to be suitably fresh and tasty - we only had 2 meals. The staff were friendly and the prices good - I can recommend, and the 24 hour availability was a bonus

Great breakfast with lot of choices

By Max G |

This place have a lot of breakfast choices like bagels, omelette, Japanese Udon soup, fresh fruit, juices, etc. We had our first NYC breakfast her this morning and will probably be back for more. All that is missing is the coziness.

Great deli for breakfast and lunch.

By RDegnbol |

A great local deli for breakfast and lunch. Serves most things imagineable freshly made. We used it for our breakfast spot for our 7 day trip to NYC.

Best place

By RecaLondon |

Open 24 hours. Could get anything you wanted food wise. Served buffet hot and cold, salads. Mornings good for breakfast and also lunch. Plenty of seating upstairs.

Love this deli

By V G |

My favourite New York deli, we go here at least once every time we're in town. Their hot breakfasts are really good, we have pancakes and French toast every time. Loads of room to sit down. They also have really nice sushi if you're there later in the day.

Cafe 28 has EVERYTHING you could ever want!

By Roxanne F |

I love Cafe 28 - it's a convenient store, neighborhood market and eatery all in one. I went there for breakfast every day (they have hot breakfast food and a huge variety of fresh fruit) and kept eyeballing the buffet (charges by the pound), which had excellent looking Chinese food, Italian and American food. I also went there every night to get a snack (they have various wraps - hot and cold, baked goods - anything you can think of, they pretty much have). I wouldn't really consider this a restaurant - you can eat your food there (lots of space upstairs), but it's not very formal as it is a neighborhood grocery store (my friend forgot her toothbrush and was able to purchase it there). It's just a great place in general - everything I got there was excellent and the prices were relatively fair.

Great Deli

Went here for breakfast several times during our stay in New York. Lots of choice, all fresh, good value for money.

An extraordinary oasis of freshness and value

By Deacon/Chef |

Stopped off here after hike on the high line and found delicious variety, freshness, and value in a city where everything is more expensive but not necessarily better. The Cafe 28 is definitely much better and for it to be affordable is a big plus. The variety is splendid and the quality for price is fantastic. You owe it to yourself to stop in here and try it out.

Great selection

By Shannon W |

Lots of variety here, I regretted getting a sandwich at the first deli counter when I walked in. It was very mediocre. But the rest of the options looked better. Panninis are available at the far counter and lots of other options in between. Lots of seating upstairs.
