Had a light dinner here. Portions were huge. I had a turkey club sandwich on gluten free bread and it was excellent. The turkey was fresh and the sandwich was so big I could only eat half of it. My husband had a Reuben made with pastrami and it was also huge. He loved it. Will definitely eat here next time we go to NY.

It's obvious this is a neighborhood pit stop. Seems like a social club as people greet each other and the staff. Sort of like a fraternity/sorority dining hall. The food is always well prepared and presented. It normally runs like a well oiled machine even when packed. Prices are reasonable. The cashier rarely smiles but this is more than mitigated by the good humor and efficiency of the wait staff .

Stopped here every morning for breakfast. Food is good...eggs cooked properly and the staff is friendly and remember us from day to day....makes you feel special.

We were looking for a casual lunch place near the NY Historical. Cafe Eighty Two fit the bill. The chicken breast sandwich and the brisket sandwich were both delicious. A generous portion and prices were very reasonable.

Very close to our hotel so we are here several times. But it's worth traveling for as well. We dined in as well as had delivery and no issues. Amazing French onion soup and mozzarella sticks. Huge filling meals. Both breakfast and dinner were amazing

Went for breakfast for a cheaper option than the breakfast at our hotel. Service was friendly, but a little slapdash. Things were placed less than gently on the table resulting in spillage. Typical breakfast fair was decent enough but my husband's Eggs Benedict would have been much better had they been served hot. An ok experience.

Highly recommended, all gluten free stuff, had the French toast was great, place was very full and we still got good attention. The gluten free part is the best though!

This cafe was ok. the food, a blt burger, a beefburger and a nicoise salate, were all nice good portions, but not with too much flavour. there was a lipstick stain on a glass. the waiter was friendly and accurate. the place wasnt really clean. the cutlery had stains.

Standard diner menu, well done, with some interesting additions, including lamb shank, potato pancakes, and matzo ball soup. Staff is friendly and attentive. Not far from the 79th street subway stop. We'll be back.

I visited the cafe 82 some years ago and had great memories. Now that I am back I still think it is great. Like coming home

We went here last week and I had read alot of reviews on Yelp some of them great some with problems. I get why people had problems with the GF I am not convinced they use separate cooking tools - I had blueberry pancakes and was fine but found some spinach under the bottom one. Someone complained about the french toast one person in our group ordered the full gluten french toast and as a rule it is not drenched in an egg wash. My pancakes were good and LARGE the juice was wonderful And I will go back. The hostess was WONDERFUL she was attentive and really made the place for me.

great American diner feel with a lot of locals eating here and a first class breakfast (No.1 breakfast), really friendly staff and great service.

I always have breakfast here when I say at the Riverside Tower. This is a pleasant place and on the weekends you'll see neighborhood families having breakfast with their kids. The food is good, but it's the slice of middle class New York life that makes this an interesting place.

Noisy and busy place. I ordered the sole sandwich. The fish was fried just right and fresh. However it came with tartar sauce in a plastic cube and the Cole slaw wasn't more than a tablespoon literally. It wouldn't have taken much effort to make this good. Service was good - they hustle.

My daughter has food allergies, so it's hard to eat out. We were on vacation in NYC and she found Cafe 82. I was skeptical, but figured it would be a meal. It was FANTASTIC. She got the broiled salmon, it was a large portion and delicious. I wasn't starving so I only got a BLT, but it was a stacked sandwich. My son had chocolate chip pancakes. Everyone got the dinner they wanted and I didn't think it was super expensive for NYC and for what we go. We will definitely go back.

What a great little restaurant! You can tell this because it is frequented by locals not just the tourists! We had excellent meals. My partner had the chicken salad & I had the turkey, stuffing, potatoes & veg. My meal was like a colossal turkey mountain!! Mounds of moist turkey breast on a bed of delicious stuffing and smothered in a yummy gravy. Side plate of sweet potatoes & veg. Thankfully, we had declined the starter soup/salad that were included in the price. If you're not a greedy person, plan to share a meal between two or ask for a doggy bag!

In a less competitive diner intensive world, this diner would rank one star higher. Extensive menu with well prepared foods. Very friendly staff, responsive to special requests, and knowledgeable. Very good cleanliness including in the men's room.

Simple diner food. Inexpensive, but good. The menus is expansive, including lots of gluten free options.

I came across this diner looking for a typical American breakfast with eggs etc. Good choice: abundant dishes, very kind staff and reasonable prices.

We went there during our stay in New York several times as it was close to the apartment we rented, both for breakfast and for dinner and we always liked it. The pankakes and the waffles were very good and also the plates we ordered in the evening satisfied us. The service is very kind and the prices in the average.

Loved the fried potatoes and white eggs. Kids loved hot chocolate!!! Friendly service. Really enjoyed the scrambled eggs. The coffee was amazing and with the all you can drink coffee it was great.

Forget the chains and high-profile spots. This is the neighbourhood place! Anything you might want for breakfast, including Jewish items such as Nova lox on a bagel. Attentive service. Would totally come back.

I live in NYC and always pass this place by! One night I decided to try it, as I've been to most of the others in the area and I always like to try someplace I've never been to! They had a special of chicken pot pie and my son had the leg of lamb! Both items were absolutely delicious, as if we had eaten them at some upscale restaurant! These entrees come with your choice of either a salad or soup, potatoes and vegetables and a bread tray! Everything we had was delicious and the waiter service was excellent - they were very attentive and polite to us! We will definitely go there again - heard they make great breakfasts and are reasonably priced!

We decided on this restaurant as they had a sign for gluten free options. The restaurant is pleasant enough for a simple diner and kept very clean. It even has some booths. We needed one gluten free breakfast and one regular. For the regular we just ordered eggs, bacon, hashbrowns, and toast. Other than the bacon being paper thin and major under cooked it was fine enough for the simple breakfast that it was. For the gluten free breakfast we ordered blueberry pancakes with ham. When it came we both tried the pancakes, but just couldn't eat them as they were so raw and gooey on the inside. We sent them back and they did remake them, but even though you could tell they were cooked longer the inside was just as gooey. The ham was two paper thin slices of deli sandwich ham. Not any type of ham steak, They really did make an effort to correct the breakfast, but it must of been the type of mix they use. I have never in all my years of needing to eat gluten free seen pancakes like this before. Without exaggerating, the quality of the food made us both so sick (more mentally we couldn't past the raw glob in our stomachs) that we couldn't eat lunch and had only soup for dinner. It also wasn't a very economical experience as the total for the two breakfast and two coffees was just under $28.00 and that didn't include a tip. Would definitey not recommend or return to this place. Look cafefully (as the front is all windows) at the food on diners plates before you go in. The lack of quality clearly shows through.

Wonderful food, but served by not friendly and rather rude waiters and busboys. Bus boys kept uttering “time for next customer “ under their breath while at the table. Sad to see this restaurant slip with their quality of service

This restaurant has fed my mother in law for the last 20 years. A great local restaurant catering to the local neighborhood.

I've been living on the UWS for years, and I've been going here for years too - from everything from breakfast to dinner. It has all the classics you could want or expect and I haven't had a bad dish yet. Plenty of table seating and even a bar to sit at also with basics of beer & wine to choose from. Probably go at least once a week and don't see that changing anytime soon! https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g60763-d15646960-r649192690-Cafe_82-New_York_City_New_York.html#

We decided to go here before seeing the Sesame Street exhibit at Lincoln Center. My daughter was spoiled for choice. Gluten-free pancakes, waffles, chicken fingers, mozzarella sticks ... And all of them were good. In fact, they were so unhappy that they had run out of mozzarella sticks for her, they found some cheese and made her an order on the house. My husband said they were the best he'd ever tasted. We will definitely be going back.

Try a vegetarian omelette with mushrooms, onions, and Swiss cheese. It, like other omelettes, comes with exquisite fried potatoes and toast (wheat or white) with jelly and butter. The coffee is good, although I unfortunately didn’t see espresso on the menu. Maybe I missed it today? An earlier reviewer stated that only locals are welcome. Without dismissing or contending that reviewer’s experience and opinion, I shall note that I, also an out-of-towner, found the service quick, cordial, attentive, and professional. Thanks for the great breakfast! It lasted me most of a busy day.

Good food, big portions but the waiter is insistant about money and to add money to have a big tip !! 👎🏻

After wandering the neighbourhood looking for some breakfast, decided to ask a local for a recommendation. He didn't disappoint - service quick, and friendly. Breakfast of pancakes, sausage and bacon was on the money, very reasonable as well. Faultless.

Too bad I accidentally deleted the picture of the huge bowl of spaghetti I got there recently. The photo was of what was left after I had eaten as much as I could and got the rest to go. We have taken out of town friends their for their super pancakes and waffles. I generally get the turkey club and many times we've just stopped in for a pastry. A slice of where real people eat. You'll notice how the wait staff and the customers all seem to know each other. Nice.

Had breakfast here, coffee good for a diner. Gluten free blueberry (fresh)pancakes were large, got 3 with my order. Husband got egg benedict - sauce was very good. Service was excellent. Place was spotless. Will come again.

I'm so glad I stumbled across this place, just walking around deciding on a place to eat. I got a chicken and gravy dish, that came with a lot of delicious sides. Everything was cooked to perfection and very tasty. The waiter was nice too. I'd definitely return here.

In NYC on holiday with a friend who's eating gluten free so found this on http://www.glutenfreeregistry.com Only a few blocks from Central Park on Upper West side. Called in for lunch and enjoyed a grilled chicken salad for my friend and a tuna salad sandwich for myself. Both were very good and reasonably priced. Cafe was busy and looked like a lot of locals used it which is always a good sign. Would recommend.

Literally a whole cow on my pastrami sandwich and probably the population of the North Sea on my wife's tuna melt. Not very family friendly or patient with our two year old

Had breakfast here with my friend, as it is a 'typical' NY diner and I wasn't disappointed. Good service and coffee immediately and we ordered the Eggs Florentine and Eggs Parisian. If you want a light breakfast don't order these, they are very generous! 2 nicely cooked eggs, a 1/3 plate of spinach - a bit salty for me, a 1/3 plate of fried potatoes, 2 pieces of toast - it kept me fueled for the rest of the day! My friend's Parisian had bacon and cheese instead of the spinach and he said it was tasty. It's good food and filling at reasonable prices - $11 for each plus coffee. There is an extensive menu so you can choose lighter options if you wish.

We went to this cafe or diner based on a recommendation by a local. The atmosphere is strictly "diner". The menu seemed to have everything under the sun--all coming out of a small kitchen with probably no more than two cooks at most. It is impossible, of course, to have all of these things pre-made and on-hand. This means that, more than likely, these are all frozen packages that are heated up as you order them except for the breakfasts. I ordered chicken and dressing which was a huge mound of sweet (ugh!--I am from the South!) cornbread dressing with generous amounts of turkey slices all around it. On top of that was a rather gelatinous and very yellow gravy. I could barely eat it and stopped before finishing. My husband had some kind of chicken dish (he cannot remember exactly which one) with VERY overcooked vegetables. The "salads" were a pile of lettuce leaves with a sliced tomato on top and a sprinkle of other things. I did not touch mine. The prices were lower than most places and I suspect this is why they get recommended as often as they do. The food is below average and, as I shared, probably processed and frozen elsewhere. There is no other way to have such an extensive menu-- particularly in such a small place. If you do not mind eating in this way in order to save money--this is the place for you.

Fairly stock standard diner fare. Had the Reuben which was an open grill vibe (rather than the closed rye sandwich I'm used to, but was still tasty - with plenty of chips. Service was fat and friendly and everything seemed clean. Not the most exciting place in the world but succeeds at being a diner catering to most tastes that is affordable and open late.

We were starving, hot, tired and really getting fed up with paying $10 for a sandwich that would cost <£4 in London. Having traipsed up and down lots of eateries on the Upper West after coming out of the Natural History museum we finally found Cafe 82 and how pleased we were. Lovely New Yorkers serving us, really attentive and helpful, friendly, and considerate to our tired and flustered state. Didn't rush us, brought us ice cold water immediately. Food was lovely - lots of choice, and I have never seen so much lovely chicken on a massive salad. Great prices. Full of locals We would definitely have gone back again were we in that part of town again

I went to cafe 82 and got the deluxe cheeseburger and let me tell you it was way more than I could eat so if you have an average appetite you could split this meal the only thing I dislike is that there aren't free refills on the juice and soda but other than that it is good

Group of us went in as this place came highly recommended. Despite all the praising, it took me 3 tries to just get them to bring lemon slices! They constantly needed reminding for water refills. I had ordered the nicoise salad, which arrived looking plentiful and appetizing but...as we know looks can be deceiving. Tuna tasted like it was straight out of the can and just on my 2nd bite I discovered a hair! When I called the waiter over and told him, he didnt so much as apologize! He simply said he'll get another one made for me. Horrible. At the end he gave me the bill for the full amount! I think at the very least, an apology and discount shouldve been in order. Will not go back.

We've visited NY for the first time and it s a relief to find a quit and not commercial great place , with great food, and perfect , very friendly service You feel at home

I enjoyed my breakfast. Lots of choices in the menu and very quick service. The servers were fast and courteous. Pleasant atmosphere. The restaurant was busy which is a good sign. I will return tomorrow.

Service was good, very friendly and certainly not "poor". Average food quality with more quantity than quality, prices reasonable for NYC. Handy alternative to hotel restaurants for early breakfasts and lunches.

eggs, taters, sausage, toast and coffee. $7.35(not sure if coffee was in that price). Really good breakfast. sausage was like mcdonalds, but omelet was 3 egg and delicious. toast was as I ordered, not warmed up bread. service was near excellent. Place was very clean and in great repair. I'm from farm country in Pa. and didn't expect to get home fries better and in a larger portion than my go-to place at home. Impressed as was my fiancé. no waiting in line. Till I find a comparable place in midtown, I will take the bus up and back if visiting.

The gluten free pancakes with chocolate chips were satisfying, as was the GF waffle topped with sweet strawberries. The decor is basic diner in pastels, but the brighter lighting made it ideal for breakfast. The server was helpful and accommodating. The breakfast potatoes were not a highlight. We had a difficult time getting there via taxi as the roads were blocked for a triathlon. Sometimes weekend events in the Upper West side affect traffic, so if you aren't in the neighborhood and plan to take a cab there, make sure there's nothing special going on!

On Broadway and 82nd a great find. I had the tenderest, tasty calves liver and my wife had enough to feed 3 with the Chicken Pot Pie. Superb puff pastry and great lumps of chicken. This included soup or salad. Both complete meals $28:80 + tax.

Found this place walking from our apartment one morning. Generous sized, delicious pancakes and good service. Would definitely return!

Pretty average. Also, they say freshly squeezed orange juice, but it isn't. That is always one of my pet peeves. Pancakes were good, however. I can't say I would necessarily come again. And fairly expensive for what you get. Of course, that is happening everywhere now.

We had breakfast here every morning of our visit. Lots of choice on menu from pancakes to steak. I loved the fried potatoes that came with some of the meals. Staff friendly, constantly re filling coffee & tea.

We came here on a recommendation. First impressions were not that great. The dining area is pretty basic. The food was OK, service OK - we were offered plenty of coffee top ups. I thought it was quite expensive for what it is at around $55 for three breakfasts and three drinks, but then everything is expensive in NYC.

Ate breakfast here before visiting the Natural History Museum. Seated immediately and received good service. Water and coffee refilled regularly. Gluten free french toast was delicious.

This is an old, friendly local diner. They serve basic food breakfast, lunch, dinner. Nothing special but the food is good and the servers are welcoming and the prices are reasonable. It is not Starbucks or an overpriced chain restaurant and that is becoming too rare.

Big plus for the gluten-free menu. The pancakes were ok but unique with them. The prices were too high for what you got.

We found this gem on our second day of a four day trip. By day three, the waiters remembered us and small details, like, I take milk in my coffee and not cream, my husband is gluten free (celiac disease, not trendy) and had a menu ready for him when we walked in. Speaking of gluten free....he loved the french toast and english muffins there and had a great turkey club for lunch one day. We mostly visited it for breakfast because it was close to our hotel and you can get bacon, eggs, toast, hashbrowns, juice and coffee for about $8.50 which, in NYC is pretty cheap. The eggs were cooked perfectly and the coffee comes with free refills. There was another diner-type restaurant next door with more space and less patrons....that spoke volumes in itself. When we left from breakfast one day, there was a line to get in this place----proving that the locals know what a great little place they have here.

If you are hungry and looking for a great American diner atmosphere, this is the place! The staff are very helpful and the food is fantastic! Proper food, well cooked, huge portions, fresh and lots of choice for everyone. The Breakfasts are amazing (we didn't eat lunch on the days we had breakfast here!), our 5 year old couldn't get enough of the bacon and sausages and the French Onion soup is delicious, I don't often write reviews but this place was worth the effort!

A really neat little café for breakfast lunch and supper. Not fancy. Friendly service. Great prices by NYC standards. Went 3 times in 2 days!

We came here in the hunt for gluten free food. They have a special menu and can do most things gluten free, even waffles. We had breakfast and dinner here and both times the food was delicious. Good value for money! Hats off to this restuarant for doing special gluten free menus. It is a rare find! The nonGF food looked good too!

This diner has a huge gluten free menu with all the traditional brunch items - gluten free pancakes, waffles, toast, sandwiches. Both the gluten free and non gluten free items are delicious, better than most traditional diner food I've had. I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich on toasted gluten free bread. The service was fast as well. Overall an enjoyable meal.

This became my partners and my go to for breakfast when we spent the week in New York. Nice casual place, with good food and coffee refills. What more could you want? The food was really good and the service spot on and friendly.

the waiting staff were amazing, so good we tipped 25% the food was all round a good meal. we both 2 meals and 3 drinks for $20 really cannot complain. It was a really layed back atmosphere we were not rushed while we were eating and the staff were always around if we needed anything. overall it is an amazing place to eat.

A family member lives near this diner, so we gave it a try. The place is much smaller than most diners, the menu is more limited, and the portions are not quite as big. Still, it was reasonably priced, the food was tasty, and service was acceptable, though nothing special. We are not planning to go back even though it is so close by. There are so many better choices in NYC.

We stumbled on this place when we first arrived in New York. We wanted something yummy as we had been travelling for a long time and they didn't disappoint! We both had a burger and it was just what we wanted so for quick tasty diner food this place was great! The staff were lovely, very attentive and helpful! (They helped explain how tipping works in America after we asked which was great!) We went back a few days later for breakfast and they didn't disappoint! Great big waffles that were delicious and again very friendly attentive staff! If you're looking for good diner food I would definitely recommend this place!

We were there having a brunch. Meal is plentiful and the price is very competitive. I recomend it if you are visiting the American Natural History Musseum because is a small walk from there.

The upper west side location has become too pricey for its own good. Several very good eating spots along Broadway have disappeared as a result. And when my wife and I headed into the area to shop and visit one of our enticing restaurants, we found it closed along with several others. Luckily, we spotted Cafe 82, which we had not seen before. I say luckily because it was a throwback to affordable fare, but chock full of flavor as well as atmosphere. Long story short, it was a delightful old fashioned diner with a large assortment of basic menu selections and a wait staff that served as a time machine putting us in a 1970's frame of mind. Long story short: th food is fine, the prices very good and the waiters bright and upl;ifting. Footnote: the chicken pot pie was one of the best ever and large enough to take more than half home and share as yet another meal.

This restaurant is small and at times you will have to wait for a booth to open. The food is good,I especially like the lamb, with mash potatoes We don’t go there all the time but when we do we enjoy the food.

The place is cosy and warm, service is effective and friendly. However $30 (all inc.) for coffee and plain pancakes for two is a bit too expensive. The quality was good. However, we would have appreciated real sirup instead of corn sirup for that price, or best a breakfast all inclusive formula.

My wife and I stopped in for a quick lunch yesterday. Had a little trouble finding things to order for under $10, but I got a good grilled cheese on good bread with lots of swiss cheese, slaw, and a good pickle for around $5 and my wife got a fried egg sandwich with the same sides for under $4. The atmosphere is like an upscale traditional NYC "greasy spoon". Good wait staff, good coffee, no grease on the spoons.

Went in the late afternoon. No problem getting a table. Service was very fast. The vegetable soup is excellent.

Cafe 82 is set in a quiet residential section of the Upper West Side of NYC. We happened on it by accident early on a Sunday morning while attending the NYC Triathlon. It was open early when other places in the neighborhood were not. My breakfast of eggs, bacon, hash browns and coffee was excellent and filling. Service was quick and efficient. My companions were equally happy with their order.

A great experience. The food was delicious and the portions were large. The service was good and efficient despite it being full.

This diner located in a quieter suburb of the upper west side is a reliable spot with good service and an authentic diner feel.

This diner is a few block from Central Park, and the Museum of Natural History. The waiters are friendly, and I liked the sandwiches that they serve.

We had a good lunch experience. The menu is varied with both expected and unexpected options. The service was good and the food was better than expected. The decor is pleasant and it is evident that this is a neighborhood place with lots of regulars. We would recommend it.

Stumbled on this cafe on our first morning in NY City. Breakfast was awesome!! We came back 4 more times and now call this "our place" on the Upper West Side. Food and staff are great!

Stumbled across this place whilst roaming the Upper West side. Whilst I agree with previous reviewers that it appears to be a locals hangout, I don't think this is a bad thing. We enjoyed our pancakes and coffee and would return.

We stayed at a hotel up the road and found this cafe by chance and it didn’t disappoint. Lovely atmosphere, staff were very friendly and the food was delicious. Very impressed.

Chose this cafe because it was near our hotel & got good reviews on TA. They were right. The food was tasty, timely, & hot! The service was excellent .

Great selection of coffees, cold and hot beverages, fruit and salad bar, and hot foods. We went there early to get breakfast and later in the day to get dessert. Cashiers are fast and you can get in and out easily. Cash and credit cards accepted, ATM on-site. Muffins are delish!

Stopped for lunch and had eggs Benedict which was good. The sauce was heavy and thick, eggs cooked well and potatoes usual diner food. Fast friendly service.

Casual, diner type fare. Great place to stop for a quick reasonably priced bite. Pleasant staff as well.

A warm welcome, cheerful service and decent food on the cheap is what makes a good classic diner and we found it all here. We were at loose ends on Broadway and on our way to Arties when we noticed the older locals all going in Eighty Two and followed them. Great, attentive service and a relaxed atmosphere, we played cards while we waited for our food. And the food was good, the chicken and rice soup was so yummy everyone had to taste it and wanted the bowl. Not the best place to get waffles, they're fine but they bring little packets of syrup instead of a decanter which feels a little cheap. But the triple decker sandwich and lamb chops were fab and they do great fries. Definitely one to return to if in the neighborhood - I took my leftovers home and my older daughter had them for lunch the next day and made a point of finding out where they came from. The staff are great, there's clear camaraderie and professionalism and they were great with our kids. For tourists looking for an authentic NY diner experience, give this one a try, it won't disappoint.

If you are visiting NYC and can get to the upper west side, this would be an excellent choice for any of your three meals of the day. It is a classic new york diner/cafe/coffee shop, w good food, good portions, friendly helpful staff, and a great location. It is even often possible to park nearby for free on Broadway. A good simple spot for a good simple meal at a fair price. We have been many times, and have not been disappointed ever.

Went into this diner several times during a week's stay in the Upper West Side. Good for breakfast. Pleasant atmosphere and friendly service. Unpretentious but reliable fare.

While it's really a coffee shop with a pleasant decor, this restaurant seems to think it's better than that. It has a coffee shop menu at middle restaurnat prices. The food is pretty good and the clientele is a bit older, lots of local AARP types, but it's just not a very good value.

Decent diner food, pleasant service, decent prices.

If you need gluten free ask for the menu. The food was delicious on both menus. We got served very quick. Service was good!

We stayed local to this area and went to cafe 82 a few times for breakfast. Food was always, quick, hot, good value and tasted very good. Would defiantly recommend this place for a quick breakfast or meal.

My wife and I are gluten intolerant yet while on holiday I really wanted the NY diner experience. This place gave it. It is quite small (maybe seats 20) but the staff are friendly and the food came quickly. I really wanted to try an American waffle and it was great. Though you could argue that it was pricey for one waffle it was liberally covered with cheese and bacon and tasted lovely and I wasn't hungry after. My wife had a turkey sandwich which was fresh, not reformed, and very plentiful and fresh crispy lettuce and tomato. They also provided mayo for my wife on the side of her plate in case she changed her mind as she had said she didn't want it in the sandwich, which was a nice touch. We saw a couple on the next table order a salad each and they came in dessert bowls they were so big! The place seemed busy with locals which is usually a good sign. It is within walking distance of the natural history museum if you visit there. Good food, tasty, good portion size and gluten free safe to boot! Brilliant.

Brilliant wee cafe we went to for breakfast a couple of days. Food was fantastic - really wide choice, and excellent service. Would highly recommend - but go early at the weekend as it gets very busy.

Good food, good, friendly service, lots of choices and good coffee. A real neighborhood place with regulars, so you know it is good. We went for breakfast twice. Skip the hotel attitude and up-charges and go here!

Food was very expensive for what it was and average at best.Service was also very poor. could not believe that there were so many regulars there. the other places nearby must be just as bad if people chose to eat there more than once.

I never had a meal I didn't enjoy in Cafe 82, whether it was breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner, or a late night snack/desert, everything was fresh, delicious, reasonably priced and served by attentive and polite staff. They also have the best spinach pie ever, and we like it so much that we served it at our wedding party! If you go for brunch, try the blueberry pancakes- so delicious!

We came here for breakfast. They had a large selection of food available, including fruit salads, cakes, bagels, wraps and various cooked breakfast items. We had pancakes, french toast, scarmbled eggs and hot drinks, all of which were delicious with generous portion sizes. I would definitely recommend this place.

We choose this diner primarily because of the gluten free options. We were not disappointed, the food was great and my daughter (who is gluten intolerant) was so happy with the pancakes and toasted sandwiches. The service was excellent, super friendly staff. We ate here every morning for 5 days and were never disappointed.

We were clearly not welcome here. We are visiting from out of state and wanted to grab a bite before visiting a local museum. The customer service was very poor. We sat for 15 minutes waiting for someone to take our order. We were about to leave, but decided to take it upon ourselves to ask if someone could take our order. The greeter acted very annoyed and found someone to take our order. We were not given water like the other customers. We had to wait a very long time for our food. We were never checked on once our food came. We had to ask for the check after sitting for quite some time. Others that came in were treated nicely and had quick service. We were clearly not welcomed here... not sure if it’s because we’re not regulars or perhaps it’s because we’re a mixed race family. I don’t even need to review the food. They made us feel so unwelcome that was bad enough.

We go here for breakfast whenever we have friends stay over in NYC. The food is always delicious and the portions are more than you can (should) eat. Pancakes, omelets, hash browns the works! Service is always friendly and attentive. Its a no frills diner that never disappoint.

Great neighbrohood diner type restaurant...fast efficient service and very good food. Have a separate gluten free menu and bread for those needing the diet.

Two out-of-town ers looking for something early Sunday morning. Didn't want to wait hours for the overpriced brunch places to open and we found this place. French toast was phenomenal, caramelized on the grill but not too sweet. Eggs were delicious and there's nothing like fresh squeezed orange juice! The service was on point and I would definitely return and recommend. Breakfast that was delicious and quick and easy on the wallet.

We ate breakfast here every day of our holiday, except one. Open at 6.30am, I was a fan of the "no. 1" breakfast. Two eggs (I liked poached), fried potato, toast, orange juice and bottomless coffee for $6.50 (plus tax and service). My husband had the pancakes with bacon, coffee and orange juice for $8.50. This isn't a fancy place but it's clean, the service is good, the food is tasty and there's lots of it and it sets you up for a day of sightseeing, shopping, whatever. And, a lot of locals are regulars there

I come to Cafe 82 about once a week. It is very much like the Greek Diners that were once so popular here. This West Side Manhattan location is very convenient (82 St. and Broadway). I like the food and atmosphere here and find the staff to be friendly, helpful and efficient. Say hello to Bosco when he offers you a refill on your coffee and Ivan when he takes your order. The ladies room is even clean and pleasant. In Manhattan this is an important thing to know. I recommend this place for a quick bite, a coffee, or dinner, or breakfast.

This is a local small restaurant with regular opinion local customers of all ages. We visited here several times during our stay in hotel nearby. The dishes are fresh and taste good. The waiters are very efficient and friendly. Based on our experience you can not go wrong choosing eating here.

The Upper West Side is still reeling from the closing of Big Nick's Burger and Pizza place, which was on Broadway near 77th St. There is a paucity of diners in the area. Eateries like Cafe Eighty Two are packed at 11:30 on a week day, although they are just average. The tables are close together, squeezing the diners. The newspaper of the woman at the table next to mine hit my arm every time she turned the page. My table was unsteady causing my coffee to spill each time the wait staff brushed against the table. I had the steak and eggs breakfast for $18. The fried eggs were rubbery, unpleasant and tasted of a strange herb, maybe oregano left over from the last item cooked on the grill. The steak was indeed sirloin, as stated on the menu. It was very good and cooked as requested, but had too much grist. I prefer a smaller steak with the inedible part removed. The home fries were inoffensive. The coffee was unremarkable. The place was packed with local customers, presumably due to the lack of competition. I won't be back. The service was excellent.

Best diner in NY!! Great pancakes, omelettea and salads! Lovely waiters who've been there for years. Family friendly. Highly recommend!!!

Nice experience, but nothing out of the ordinary. We had breakfast, which tasted fine. The staff were experienced and friendly.

Amazing food, nothing else to say! It was spectacular! Nice, delivered, and affordable. You cannot go wrong stopping here!

The food is tasty, portions generous, prices reasonable and lots of variety. But I rate this diner higher than others for service. Very friendly, relaxed and helpful. Lots of solo diners there and it was obvious some were regulars -- just very comfortable. It was a great stop after 2 hours in Barnes and Noble across the street. I had the goat cheese spinach omelette and my 8 year old had the grilled cheese (which he LOVED) and fries. We shared a side of fruit salad and it was noteworthy in its size, and the quality & variety of fruit.

Friendly waitstaff and great GF menu at this restaurant. Love the blueberry pancakes. The egg florentine was excellent. GF Home Fries and French fries are really good. The baked filled cod is a great dish. We will be back.

We were looking for standard breakfast fare without a long wait, and found it at Cafe 82. We both ordered eggs benedict (with lox) and it was completely average, as was the side of home fries that it came with. The service was timely and professional, and our coffee was topped off several times without a wait.

We saw a lot of locals and elderly people and thought, “They must serve something good here!” We weren’t wrong. It’s a great place. The service, led by a Mexican immigrant, was exceptional. The food had a delicious homemade flavor, and the coffee was great. Everything was spot on!

We had the chicken basket lunch special. Chicken coating was a little hard and sweet. Fries were good and not too oily.

in a very nice neighborhood-large portions-tasted home made-had leftovers for lunch the next day and they were still great-friendly staff-charming atmosphere-lots of locals eating there

This Cafe was recommended to me by the hotel staff at the Riverside Towers. I asked what it was noted for and they said, "great homemade food at reasonable prices." I ate a wonderful dinner there of pot roast, corn, and mashed potatoes, followed by coffee and apple pie a la mode for desert. It was scrumptious. The wait staff was personable and friendly. I went back the following morning for breakfast. Again a great American breakfast at a reasonable price. Popular restaurant with locals and cops. Friendly folks.

Authentic Diner, great prices, fantastic service and incredible food. I'm fortunate enough to travel to NYC for work every year. I always stay on the Upper west side and my preferred hotel is around the corner from this delightful place. Incredibly the staff seem to have remained the same over the last 5 years I've been visiting...and its a good thing too. All the staff ane friendly and efficient and nothing is too much trouble. Food is consistently good, freshly prepared, super quick and well priced. I've turned up exhausted and jet lagged for a late supper, early for breakfast before a busy work day and for lazy extended brunches and its always good!! Don't go past the Blueberry pancakes...amazing!
You gotta!!
We ate here twice for breakfast and both occasions did not disappoint the French toast was really good and the bacon perfect service was fantastic and always eager to refill your coffee
