Excellent, prompt service. Steak perfectly done. Pommés frites exquisite. Lively, busy atmosphere. Very accommodating to our time constraints with élan. Tuna tartare was excellent, as well.

I never knew I would like the cauliflower steak so much. In fact, I was skeptical. I wish they did offer more vegetarian options, but that one was so good, I would order the same. The place was crowded, but we were seated fairly quick. The french fries are to die for. I felt a nice vibe, and could tell this is a local favorite where quality and class prevail.

It's very expensive, very noisy. Tight tables. Desire to speed up service to ensure profitability! The fries supposed to accompany the burgers are cooked in oil which is used for squid and certain fish preparations: info from the waiter who asked about our allergies (the only good point of the restaurant in our opinion)

We’ve gone to this little neighborhood gem several times, usually for breakfast or brunch. The food is wonderful with a nice variety. The service is perfect, attentive but not overbearing. Love their cappuccino. If you’re going for brunch, make a reservation, especially the later it gets in the morning.

OK, I've lived in France and consider myself a minor connoisseur of the steak-frites thing. This restaurant offered a pale version at lunch. Granted, the place was super busy because of college graduations nearby, but the steak was a bit too chewy, and the french fries were -- mon Dieu! -- soggy. Soggy. In a real steak and fry restaurant, someone with a huge platter roams the room and gives you heaping replacements, right out of the fryer. These frites, served in a paper cone, just didn't survive. Wildly disappointing.

This is a very pleasant restaurant where you can actually converse in a normal voice. The setting is pleasant and the decibel volume stands in pleasant contreast to so many other restaurants on the upper west side. The staff was attentive and friendly but not overbearing. The food was o.k. but would not give it the rave review of the other reviewers. It is overpriced for what you get and that goes for the quality as well as the portion size. My husband ordered the avaocado toast and was given a very thin slice of bread on which there was a very small amount of avocado and bean spread. It looked more like an appetizer than a main course for brunch. The rest of our party enjoyed their choices but there were no raves. The coffee was good. Would return for the location and the pleasant setting.

Very nice restaurant. Servers excellent. Salad good. Chicken prepared perfectly. An excellent choice for date night.

The steak tartare is very good. Presentation and taste. Grilled octopus appetizer is good, but I would have loved a little extra tentacles. Good espresso coffee. Not too loud. Excellent service. A very good lunch experience.

This age-old local cafe/ restaurant offers a true New York atmosphere. Exceptional decor, and wonderful food. Mostly fish and sea-food on the dinner menu. Nice sized bar. Advance reservations a must. The place was very busy when we were there on a Tuesday evening.

This restaurant was opened in 1983 and is as popular as ever. Beautifully art directed space, and friendly attentive staff. Good choice of pre dinner cocktails. Shared the calamari and a salad to start - the salad leaves were very fresh, the calamari excellent. I had duck breast as a main - a large portion with some vegetables, the duck was cooked perfectly ( medium rare in the centre). The desserts were delicious too. Not hard to recommend this restaurnant.

They want customers back certainly and had charming outdoor seating, but we were cramped in our little slot (four of us), too hot above, too cold below. My salmon was overdone although I asked for rare. The croque monsieur was minuscule with ONE slice of paper thin ham. An order for tea was forgotten. The kitchen needs work. In post pandemic early days, we will forgive.

Brunch at the Cafe Luxembourg is terrific! Just remember to reserve a table before you try to go there. It's a popular place. I went there with my husband and a friend. I had the Eggs Benedict, my husband had an omelette, and my friend ordered the Huevos Rancheros. All our choices were terrific! The restaurant has pleasant decor, and the service was excellent. I highly recommend it for brunch and I'd consider trying it for a dinner, as the dinner menu looks terrific, perhaps before going to Lincoln Center.

Had the most amazing French toast. Very friendly restaurant with great service . A must visit place on the Upper Westside

We hadn't been to CL for a while and treated ourselves to brunch recently. The steak and lobster roll were okay, but the pancakes utterly plain and thin and the sandwich came with overly greasy home fries. The best thing was the banana bread. Nothing else was actually bad, but then nothing was all that great, either. Service was friendly, although a couple of drink requests couldn't be honored (no mint, no mocha coffee). The style and ambience of the place haven't changed, but the prices sure have: with drinks, our tab was almost $90 pp. It just wasn't that good.

We had lunch before theater at Cafe Luxembourg and were pleased we did! The restaurant is cozy with wonderful food. We had the steak tartare, tuna salad nicoise, and the tuna burger. All were excellent and service was prompt, efficient and friendly. I was thrilled to be able to get ginger ice cream for dessert. Would definitely return.... Lunch was approximately $40 a person.

This was a family meal. My daughter ordered a salad (Caesar?) $19 for a few leaves of lettuce and & $11 for a small chicken breast. Grilled cheese. Nothing special was $23. I had fish and chips that looked suspiciously like fish sticks. Croce monsieur was the best of the lot. $12 bottle of beer and something exorbitant for soup rounded out the meal. ($18 for onion soup) $ 200 for four for dinner wasn’t worth it. It was cold outside and the heater wasn’t helpful. They would not seat us in the enclosed outdoor dining area supposedly because there were reservations but three tables remained empty until we left. Also, this has nothing to do with Luxembourg.

Went there for a late lunch. Pros: very good waiting staff. Great service. Cons: it is expensive for a bistro. $40 for a steak frites (before tax and service). $36 for a small piece of halibut and over $10 for a side of fries. It simply does not add up. Again, it is a bistro with very average sizes and dishes. Disappointing.

This cafe was very cozy and friendly. The hostess went out of her way to squeeze us in when we had no reservation. The food was fantastic and the servers would not have been nicer.

Food is fair, service is fair, place is overcrowded and last night was cold. The front door was open most of the time and staff on the service stand were wearing coats.....as were people at the front table. We got them to move us to a small table (4 of us) near the back so we could take off our coats. This was the first time we'd been there and will not return.....surely not on a cold night

We booked for 6pm on a crowded Sat night and they knew we had show tkts at 8. 1. Took a while to get seated. 2. No one came to take our order, at 6:20 we cornered the Mgr. He was flustered and sent a waiter over. 3. Ordered but food took a long time but was good. 4. Asked for the check at 7:30. 5. We were charged for 6 meals and asked for a redo. 6. We were then charged for 5 meals. Talked to the Mgr who was still flustered. Now waiter flustered. 7. At 7:45 I went to the waiter at the register to tell him we had a theater curtain in 15 minutes and proceeded to recite what we ALL ordered. He fiddled and said "it's right now." I asked to see the slip and saw he forgot one person's meal. When I said it was still wrong that they were cheating themselves he said to let it go he didn't care and he couldn't verify as he hadn't taken the orders. WAIT: with computerized systems, don't you punch in the table number and get the correct check? So we paid and left. Thought we left something and I returned and he said "I thought you had a curtain." I told him the sarcasm wasn't lost. They were pretty condescending. Why - it wasn't our fault they couldn't get it straight. Will NEVER go back and 2 of us live in the neighborhood. Was the overcharging an honest mistake. Or was it a game to hustle hurried people in a crowded and noisy environment? Look at your checks carefully.

My friend and I had some humanitarian work in the area and wanted a quick Bloody Mary. Walked in and was WOW'd. It's like you take a step back in time. Elegance and old time charm with large arrangements of fresh flowers. Many wines too choose from. We didn't eat but the place was busy with lunchtime guests and they all seemed to be enjoying what they were eating. This place is out of my price range but the menu looked good. We stayed with our Bloody Mary's and ordered another. They don't come with an olive which I was shocked. They hit the spot. Ryan was our bartender and friendly and knew the area like the back of his hand. Ryan is amazing and just what I wanted in a bartender. Someone who is engaging, outgoing and funny. I hope this place knows what a great bartender and asset Ryan is. Thanks for everything, Your Bloody Mary drinkers from CT handing out socks in mittens.

We went for brunch on Saturday. Table of 7. Service was good when they got to us but they were very full. Didn't matter as we had a lot to catch up on. I had the eggs benedict with smoked salmon and it was very tasty. Fun.

Small setting with excellent service, smiling faces and delicious food. The beef tartar is the best.

My girl friend is black and I am Asian and even though the place was nearly empty for a Sunday evening, we were given the last table at the back of the restaurant. We decided to sit outside and one can tell that the man who allocated that table to us was upset that we were unhappy with it. He was arrogant and rude to us from the very beginning. What an attitude!!! I think that it was deliberate that it took over 1/2 hour to get 2 green salads as our appetizers. Patrons who were there after us were served before us. I had to ask 3 times for our food which was mediocre and overpriced! I live close by but I will never enter the doors of that place again. I have been to the best restaurants in Paris and Rome and the service was impeccable!! This place is overrated!!

The service was good, the ambience too - we ate outside, were able to leave the door partly open for real air circulation, and were warm enough with the heat lamps despite an outside temperature around 47º F. The salmon was good but slightly overcooked, the moules frites and ravioli excellent according to my companions, and the creme brulee super good. Bread should have been brought routinely but was not, and when we requested it what came was second rate.

They don't make restaurants or experiences like this anymore! Top quality service with a capital S! Wowza. Andrew thank you for a memorable meal. I cannot say enough about the quality of care the staff takes for each diner. The food was phenomenal and a postcard as a parting gift. What a wonderful insitution. I would come here again and again every single trip to NY! Casual dress is fine. Cannot say enough about server Andrew and the team. GREAT great time!

We came for a pre concert dinner. The restaurant was crowded at 6pm. We were seated at the appointed time. The menu is classic brasserie fare. Everything was cooked to a high standard. The reception as well as wait staff were friendly and professional. The only drawback is the tight space. If you are engaged in conversation with your guests you may not notice. Great for pre Lincoln Center event. It was quite easy to book online.

Steak hammered like chicken paillard into a piece of cardboard. I love Cafe Luxembourg, been coming here for 20+ years, but you guys should be ashamed of yourselves!!! I know its Inflation Nation right now, but for $46 this is the worst steak I ever had. If necessary, raise prices, your customers will pay for quality. But no one at the Lux wants to be ripped off for BAD FOOD!!! Its insulting!!! This used to be a reliable Flank Steak that was sliced nicely, plump delicious slices of beef, after being cooked as ordered. not a hammered piece of cardboard you'd get at a crummy diner. Au Poivre sauce was "Brown Water", so gross and watery, again, Cafe Lux, SHAME on YOU!!! This is terrible. Get your act together on food quality or you'll just be a "has been" lame wanna-be of a french bistro. I really cant believe you would stoop this low, very disappointing

On a recent girls trip to NYC, my friend chose Cafe Luxembourg for dinner before seeing Swan Lake. While it has been around forever it was my first time there and did we all love it! Oh my! The atmosphere was so charming, so understatedly french bistro... great old subway tiles, straw chairs, cozy and great bar. All the meals being delivered were delicious looking! I never have chicken at a restaurant, but ordered it here, and I am still savoring it several days later. Also had a wonderful brussell sprouts salad. It was all so tender, so flavorful.. I ate every bite and had no room for dessert! What a great choice she made, I will def. return, even if not going to Lincoln Center!!!!

My husband and I had an early dinner here last night. The food was really good as was the service. We started off with a bottle of white wine and a dozen raw oysters. For our main courses I had the Roasted Faroe Island Salmon and my husband had the Grilled Rack of Lamb. Both entrees were outstanding and the portions were a very good size. We also shared a side order of the roasted mushrooms. For dessert we had coffee, Harry's Hot Fudge Sundae, and the Chocolate Gateaux. The restaurant was small but very nice looking. A bit on the pricey side but hey it's NY City. We would definitely go again.

Cafe Luxembourg serves excellent French cuisine. The menu remains true to the french bistro classics, although, they are offered at fine dining prices. The dining room is also classically French, decorated with small, black and white, hexagonal tiles ... charming, but, sometimes noisy. I would definitely recommend a visit to Cafe Luxembourg, but, be prepared for the crowds and the prices.

Six o'clock dining before the opera and a pleasant experience with just a short walk to the Met. Coq au vin (meat cooked in deep wine sauce with mushrooms and pearl onions--should have ordered a side of potatoes) and lobster roll with frites were great choices. Muscadet serve et Maine, a good match for the lobster. Blake was our server, competent, professional, and friendly. If you love mousse, try the chocolate mousse here.

The good things first: it is a very lively restaurant. Outdoor dining is actually very pleasant with less noise. The service is attentive. The less good thing: This restaurant is in our neighborhood. usually have the best mussels, plump and delicious. This time, the taste was still good but the mussels were shriveled. . My grandson was still happy and therefore we did not say anything since this dinner was for him. But My husband and I noticed and were disappointed. This is one of their staple course. Are they becoming complacent? French fries are still the best!

Very random that we ended up here when on a quick trip to NYC to visit our son in school,. Walking by it was busy which is always a good sign. We got a table quickly indoors. Nick was our server and could not have been more sweet and attentive. Food was great; tuna burger, salmon, steak tartare. Thanks team - you all did a great job!

Space is tight and noisy It’s diner food at inflated prices Skip it and go to a diner Don’t bother here

I’m not one for long negative reviews. I’ve been to this establishment twice - once for dinner and once for lunch. There is some history surrounding this place which is why it’s always busy, but I’ve found the food and drinks to be extremely subpar and the ambiance felt like that of a cheap diner that was in desperate need of renovations. Buyer beware… Never going to eat there again.

I joined others in celebrating a friend's "big birthday" at a brunch recently. I ordered on of their special omelets -- it came luke-warm at best; it tasted ok but no better than that. I will say that the crispy French fries were terrific but I would have happily traded for less than stellar fries in order to get a really good omelet! The service was efficient and pleasant. Prices a bit higher than they should be.

Cafe luxembourg has one of the best burgers i ever had. However the space is limited and i was sitting on the bar with people on top of me making me feeling uncomfortable while i was eating. I would recommend make people wait outside or go for a walk in the area and just call them when their table or space in the bar opens up.

Fabulous atmosphere and delicious food. Love the waitstaff and the service. Make sure to check out the daily specials.

Four of us went there for a late breakfast. I had the bagel and smoked salmon which was excellent as expected. Others had eggs Benedict, an omelette, avocado toast. Everyone was happy with their dish and the coffee. The service was excellent. The prices a bit high. The interior is classy.

I have been going here off and on for many decades. I generally eat downtown in the village, my sister dragged me here and we had an Awful meal , however this restaurant will really try and rectify a complaint. My Sister and I got really sick here, most probably from a meal not cooked enough. I called right away and they were kind enough to have us come back, as their guests. We ordered a typical meal and the manager, ( last minute) made sure everything was Right , our dinner was delicious , the service very good and I would go there again.

requested quiet table due to hearing issues, table was perfect. we stayed a long time visiting with old friends, never was encouraged to leave! Food and service was just superb.

Great location near Lincoln Center and the food was ver good. I highly recommend it, great for pre-theatre.

Best restaurant ever…. Jamie was the best waiter and so attentive… food was amazing…highly recommend… great place to go before a show….

This is a classic and a neighborhood treat treasure. The decor, which seems Art Deco-inspired to me and reminiscent of Paris, which is intended, is pleasing. The service is thoughtful, attentive, and warm. The food is excellent and more so in my most recent dinner, my second consecutive one on Christmas-day, which a staffer said was attributable to a new executive chef. Here's the details: Bourgogne Blanc, 62 Brussels sprouts salad, special, 19 Luxemburger with Gruyere, 26: Excellent; perfectly cooked with a crispness at the edges and just enough pink inside to be medium rare; served with excellent frites Duck l'Orange, 39: Excellent; the duck skin had a crispness and flavor reminiscent of a bacon which paired luxuriously with the almost-rare meat and a lovely sauce TIP reservations advisable TIP is pricier than many but in bounds for Manhattan and the quality of the cuisine, decor, and experience

We were quite chilly but they were installing heaters while we were there. Service was very good. We both ordered the tuna burger with wasabi mayo. I hadn’t had a chance to read my last review of this place so I didn’t remember that there was no taste of wasabi so it was bland. The fries were very good. If you are looking for basic food with nice service and atmosphere, and high prices, this restaurant is for you

We remembered this classic bistro fondly from years ago, and recently decided to give it a try again. It did not disappoint. The food was excellent, as was the service. They graciously accommodated dietary concerns. Our only complaint was the high noise level- it was almost unpleasantly loud. On a Saturday night, though, that's what you'd get at most popular spots.

My wife and I began dining here in 1983, the year it opened, as she was employed by the MET Opera around the corner. Many years of suburban life and three kids later, we only come into the city occasionally. Lately we've been taking in concerts at the Beacon and have twice dined here in the past 2 months. Like an old friend, everything is familiar here. The food very good and reliable, the service efficient and friendly and management caring. Food memories can be elusive at times, but I've enjoyed the frisée salad over 3 decades and it never fails to satisfy. I tried a new dish last visit, of razor clams over greens on an amazing sour dough rye - spectacular. In fact so good, the manager, Alan, wrote down the name of the bakery in Brooklyn, how's that for service.

We have been to this NYC restaurant many times along the years. It has become overpriced and the portions are tiny. Not with the money. Big tab for a small diner!

Visited with friends, it’s a bit noisy, but not so loud we couldn’t talk. The service was amazing, we felt treated like honored guests, never rushed, with staff that always seemed available and helpful when needed! Three of us had the duck, it was incredible, not your traditional duck l’orange. Two large, perfectly cooked breasts with crispy skin and little fat. They were delicious, maybe the best I have had! The profiteroles were fabulous, the waiter offered to add a fourth if we wanted to share, but I had a very fresh tasting sorbet instead. Altogether a wonderful meal!

I have wanted to try this restaurant for awhile now, being a semi-regular visitor to Lincoln Center. Last weekend I got my wish, and enjoyed brunch. The service was excellent, and the food was delicious. I had a blackberry bellini with the croque mosieur and frittes. The frittes were outstanding. My father had the french toast, which he also liked. My only complaint is that the restaurant is on the small side, so the tables are very close together and there isn't a lot of space between diners.

I liked the imaginative menu, and the food was excellent, very fresh. The service was superb from the busboys up! Very cheerful and helpful staff. It is a little noisy when it is full, but the food makes up for it, definetely will go again!

My friends and I have eaten here a number of times in the last year and without exception every meal has been delicious, Because of the restrictions caused by the Pandemic, no indoor dining but outdoor eating in winter time and using heaters to try to keep the chill away they have risen to the occasion. One time I ordered the Fish and Chips which was one of the best I've ever had anywhere including the UK, this last time I ordered the grilled Branzino with roasted fingerling potatoes with peppadew peppers and my friends ordered the Fish and Chips. Without exception everything served was piping hot and stayed warm as we ate. Our server, Joseph, was so kind and patient, we were all a little stressed out and were very delayed in ordering. Joseph didn't rush us into ordering and when he took our orders answered any questions we had. After we ate we all ordered cappuccino. This is one of the best restaurants in NYC and I know that my friends and I will eat here again to have another exceptional meal.

On January 2, 2000, my wife Pamela and I first met at table #11 at the Café Luxembourg. It was a magical moment for both of us (a fix-up by a dear friend). Jerry Seinfeld and his wife Jessica were at the next table! Each January 2 since – 23 times (missed one year for covid!), we have returned without fail to the same table #11 to celebrate our joy and happiness. Sadly, Café Luxembourg has not kept pace. The menu has understandably shrunk a bit, tho the white veal spaghetti last night was superb. (We’d return for that reason alone!) But what has especially deteriorated is the welcome. Last night was The Worst. To be sure we’d snag #11 (which they always refuse to promise, tho we are in their computer!), we pushed the reservation back from 6 pm to 5:30 (we had to watch Pamela’s alma mater, Tulane, triumph in the Cotton Bowl!) …. (a text they sent later said 5 pm, but who watches a text during the Cotton Bowl!) …. BUT when we showed up 10 minutes BEFORE 5:30….Table 11 was OCCUPIED! “Your reservation was for 5 pm so we gave it away,” the maître d’ said archly. “We’ll find another table for you.” NOT acceptable, we said, perhaps we could just ask the folks there (who’d just arrived) if they might move. “We would never do that.” Well, then, WE can ask them and I moved toward the table. The bulky maître d’ sought to block me. “You can’t GO there,” he hissed. I felt like a Tulane tight end as I skirted another table, reached #11 and managed to explain our plight to a lovely couple who sat there. “Of course, we’ll move,” the gentleman said beaming. Just then, Pamela, a few steps behind, spotted his wife. “Sheila!” “Pamela!” …. They squealed… both fellow Tulane grads who’d not seen each other for decades. Her husband and I moved toward the maître d’ … who insisted HE STILL WOULD NOT MOVE THEM and announced archly, “the general manager is on the way.” By then, the other couple had risen and demanded another table. “Rachel” the general manager, btw, was equally if not more unsympathetic, snarling at us, “You cannot do this, disturb our clients.” We comped Sheila & her husband’s a round of their drinks. Finally, at Table #11, we toasted our happiness for a 24th year. No thanks to Café Luxembourg. Hopefully, a better reception for our 25th year, with a more gracious and accommodating person at the door!

Recommended by a friend we would return like a shot. Buzzy. Delicious. Great service. Hard to fault.... we were lucky to bag a table We will be back The sprout salad with rocket and toasted almonds and lemon juice was epic.

After visiting the Natural History Museum we decided to walk down Broadway to see Lincoln Center. On the way we thought we'd see several dining options but the area was more residential than we had expected. Plenty of markets along that part of Broadway but not many cafes. Then Café Luxembourg presents itself. We have twice eaten at the Café Luxembourg in Amsterdam, and although there is no connection between the two it was a happy accident. This is not a big place. They had a table for us at 4:30pm in the afternoon, but we had to vacate by 7pm. Easy one. The kids would never sit still that long anyway. Ahead of us were two ladies making reservations for a dinner later in the week. I guess it's not the kind of place you can take for granted. Since we were there in a dead period between lunch and dinner where the menu was much smaller, but that worked out fine for 3 of the 4 of us. My wife had the steak fritas. Loved it. My older daughter and I had the hamburger. Excellent. The youngest daughter ordered a mixed greens salad with roasted chicken. She was disappointed that the salad was nothing but greens, no other vegetables. The chicken was still on the bone so not an easy way to mix with salad. Both items cost around $16 so it was more expensive than the hamburger under $30. The French fries were awesome. They must have used beef tallow because they tasted more like the old McDonald's French fries than anything I have had since. The service was friendly. It has the feel of an intimate French café. I would go again when they were serving the full menu. Only later did we learn this was a location in When Harry Met Sally when the title character try to set each up with Carrie Fisher and Bruno Kirby only for them to leave with each other.

It’s a busy little pre-theatre post theatre neighborhood gem with very good food, good service and a good old fashioned bartender. Dinner for four, a reunion of sorts, and while it’s noisy, conversation was still possible and dinner was very nice. It’s the kind of place you want to go back to!!!! For me, that says it all.

Fantastic neighborhood French restaurant. Feels like eating in a Parisian café bistros. Great service. They are polite and smiley. My favorite on their menue is the fish and chips and Steak frites. The problem is that if you want to be spontaneous and decide to eat there a day in advance, is hard to get a good time reservation so do it earlier.

We returned to Cafe Luxembourg in July on a trip to New York. I thought it might be past its prime after so many years. Boy was I wrong. It was crowded with a mix of locals and knowledge visitors. The food and drinks were so good. Service was friendly and unhurried. I had probably my best steak ever in my steak & frites order. Fun interactions with close by neighboring tables. A bit noisy, but totally felt like a neighborhood gem.

All I can say is I was “greeted” by a stunningly rude maitre d’ who — despite the many empty tables available— refused to let me sit at one of them. They remained empty well after he told me the bar or the freezing chairs by the front door were my sole options so “ you can have the full restaurant experience.” Yes he said that. After 8 minutes I was permitted to detach myself from my glass of water at the bar and actually sit at an empty table until my friend came a minute later. Let’s just say I got the full restaurant experience.

Went in last (2023) December for a dinner before seeing The Nutcracker at Lincoln Center-a gift from my college student daughter who accompanied me there. Made an early reservation and when we arrived, there was only one other party in the dining room. It was empty. Host proceeded to seat the two of us (me and 5’8” daughter) to a table that was squeezed in the far back corner underneath a coatrack. At best it was a poor table for a single diner. Not appropriate for two people especially when the rest of the dining room was empty save for one party. Who had their coats on the hook above the one of the seats. It would ONLY be appropriate to seat us there if it were the last open table in the place. We sat briefly but the coats kept brushing up against my head. I soon after asked for a nearby normal table for two and after a moment’s hesitation, the host agreed to seat us at a regular table for 2. I left with a very bad taste in my mouth. We are quiet people, dressed nicely for our upcoming LC event. For the record, daughter born and in her last year of college in NYC. I lived in Manhattan for 15 of my adult years and daughter born in NYC. Meaning we were a current and former New Yorker. So it must have been the 908 area code that I had to provide to secure the reservation. Very disappointing. Food was ok. Cute cozy interior but the host’s snobbery left a bad taste in my mouth.

From the warm welcome to our last bite, we had a wonderful experience. The cozy bistro ambiance is enhanced by the attentive service. Our food was and cooked to perfection. My watermelon and tomato gazpacho and the branzino entree were delicious, and we really enjoyed the featured wine.

We've been trying to get to Cafe Luxembourg for some time, but had never been able to secure a reservation until this trip. It was worth the wait. Very good food. Attentive service. Despite being very busy, they seated us within moments of our arrival. The only minor quibble would be that it's difficult to move around in the entrance area while so many people are waiting. Food was outstanding. Yummy soups. Several of us had the duck, which was pronounced among the best. All around a great experience that we will be very happy to return to.

The French bistro / Belgian cafe concept has been done to death, and can go horribly wrong when it is a stereotype, but Cafe Luxembourg pulls it off pretty well. The prices are slightly cringe-worthy, but the quality of the food and of its delivery is very good. Great service and a nice environment. Worthy of a special occasion.

The bistro experience in New York isn't really about the food--it's about atmosphere: continental charm, convivial din, reliable Gallic specialties, curt and attractive service people (and, yes, sometimes clientele). Cafe Luxembourg, I am sad to report, embodies absolutely none of these qualities. The food is neither reliable nor bland: it's nigh unpalatable. The french fries taste stale and warmed over, the lobster briny, the steak stringy and redolent of chemical char. My girlfriend pronounced that the mashed potatoes "were giving boxed." The space is clinically over-lit and geriatrically peopled: it feels not unlike a perfunctorily gussied up hospital or airport restaurant. At least Odeon has those mirrors, an 80s cocaine ambience, and wonderful pudding; Lucien, its beguiling martinis and intriguing waitresses. If you're an UWS denizen who can remember where you were when JFK was shot and has the cash to fill a colostomy bag with something superficially better than hospice grub, by all means come here.

Recently We visited the Cafe for Brunch session. The place was jam packed and since we had prior Reservation we could find our table. As staunch Vegetarians it was a bit of hassle to select the right food to order. Finally I settled for local cereal with baked vegetables. The preparation was excellent. There were few egg based dishes and plenty of variety with respect to Meat based products. The ambience is very good and being Manhattan the tables were very close to each other.

I've had lots of good food and good service. Cafe Luxembourg stands out as an example of exceptional, professional service and food. From the moment we sat down we were cared for. The wait time was reasonable and the professionalism was exemplary. And then the food! I had the octopus appetizer. I could happily have made a full meal of it. For my main I had the halibut. The fish was perfectly cooked and the sauce was delicious. For dessert three of us shared the cheesecake and a dish of three scoops of ice cream. A scoop of strawberry ice cream came with the cheesecake, and then we also had the ginger, cinnamon, and butter beer ice creams. All delicious. I can't recommend this restaurant highly enough.

Cafe Lux is an interesting fusion of a neighborhood eatery and a midsize upscale French bistro. That, combined with the positive and happy vibe from both staff and diners, plus of course the food, makes this a special experience. After my first Sunday brunch, when I felt instantly at home, I went back twice more in the same week. As a solo diner you can sometimes feel invisible, but the team looked after me very well. Sure, you can find more haute cuisine in NYC. I don't think that's their goal. Take a look at the online menu: it's a blend of good everyday fare, not a 'French restaurant' per se. Portions aren't overwhelmingly huge, which I was delighted to see, and the morning coffee is a high-quality old fashioned American cup of coffee. All three times I went, the whole experience was extremely enjoyable from start to finish. You may be lucky and get a walk-in spot, but if you want to be certain, book ahead and be sure to reconfirm.

We enjoyed an excellent pre-theatre meal: endive salad, mussels, salmon, all prepared with flair and care. Attentive, professional service with special attention to theatre timing. Not inexpensive.

A good choice of brunch dishes in this quaintly old-fashioned busy cafe next to Central Park and friendly service

Our party of 5 entered the cafe on Sunday of memorial day weekend. It was busy but there were several empty tables. We were seated next to the hostess station. Why, when there were several empty tables, in the restaurant. This made for difficult conversation with our friends. The hostess was constantly knocking into us, while showing people to their tables. I ordered the bagel with lox. When it finally came, the bagel was overtoasted, almost burnt and cold. This being NYC, i figured i would ,at least, get a good bagel. I did not want to make an issue, because i was with my friends. But for $22.00, i thought this would be , at least, not burnt. Needless to say, i will not be returing.as a former New Yorker, i can get a better bagel at a better restaurant in New Jersey.

The food is good. The prices are exorbitant. I ordered a Caesar Salad. It was $19.00, $25.00 with tax and tip. What appeared was a salad the size of an orange. No amenities like a basket of bread. They have a Nicoise Salad without tuna. If you want tuna it’s extra. The whole idea of Salad Nicoise is the tuna. Shameful. Sheer greed

Lively bistro on Amsterdam avenue. The esma is ok. I don't know what's missing but I don't think it's enough vodka. The red wine is again too hot. Too bad about this zinfandel. The French onion soup was strange in taste. It's like there's ketchup in there. Not really good. The steak was again fine. The double espresso was unfortunately lukewarm. It was a recommendation from a fellow student but I have to be honest. It was ok but nothing more.

Only visited to have cocktails before and after a meal elsewhere, so can’t comment on the food. However, the service at the bar provided by both female members of staff was exceptionally warm, welcoming and efficient, even by New York standards.

What better way to end an evening than with a French meal after a broadway show? Great drinks and food until 11 most nights. And there’s a price fixe late night that keeps prices within reason!

Very popular place that has been here for years. Fast and friendly service. My meal was very average, maybe a bad choice of the BLT. Steak frit was good but effectively $50 for a steak and chips. Profiteroles were delicious. Would not rush back.

Cozy stmosphere serving fine food with excellent service in a great section of Manhattan . Excellent wine list as well . We have fined here many times when in the neighborhood !

Having tickets for the Metropolitan Opera, being only a few blocks away we thought this would be a convenient stop for a pre-opera dinner. A party of four we were seated at a small uncomfortable table, in a crowded noisy restaurant. Looking around, we felte reassured that we were not discriminated against as none of the tables looked any bigger or more comfortable. The food, what I would call Pub or Brasserie food, was not that good, not that bad, not at all memorable but not by any means inexpensive. The wine list OK but also not inexpensive. Well it's a popular place for sure as every table was taken. Service was good and well paced especially considering it was a pre-theater hour in a. full occupied restaurant.

Sadly, the inconsistency of food quality has turned a long time staple in to a hard pass. For almost two decades this was always one of our favorite places to enjoy a great meal with exceptional service. Unfortunately the food quality, especially that of the steak, can ruin an otherwise pleasant experience. The service was still top notch, but the cramped space and elevated prices are no longer overcome by the quality of the food itself. It’s just no longer worth the risk of getting a steak that is mainly gristle. Hopefully this is just a phase.

Charming cafe with outdoor seating. There was delicious grilled cheese and fries for my picky eaters and spring ravioli for seasonal eaters. The service was lovely and the atmosphere was great for a Sunday evening in NYC. The neighborhood was away from the touristy areas. I would return.

The location and decor are wonderful, the service is above average, the food is also better than average, although I was dissapointed in my unbelievable burger. The fries are wonderful, but so are salads and deserts. This is always a place to return to.

Lovely warm atmosphere, comfortable surroundings. Popular and busy but no fuss and good service. Great for brunch and a good conversation. Homely food and good wines.

Thoroughly enjoyed my first visit to Cafe Luxembourg. Vibrant atmosphere, delicious food, attentive and kind waitstaff. Prices reasonable for NYC. Advise making a reservation. Great choice if you want a nice meal near Lincoln Center.

Cafe Luxembourg This restaurant definitely defines elegance. Food is very good to excellent, service is excellent, and decor is very good to excellent. Prices are commensurate with the quality of all three experience elements, making for a restaurant offering a good value. What did we eat? Steak tartare (appetizer portion), excellent Country frisee salad, excellent; topped with a warm poached egg and tossed with warm bacon lardons Chicken au jus, excellent half-chicken Fish and chips, very good; classic frites are excellent in a generous portion SHOUT OUT to Alena and team for elegant and thoughtful service TIP good value TIP good occasion restaurant TIP short walk to Lincoln Center theaters. TIP dining available at the bar.

Cafe Luxembourg has been around forever, but it's still a reliable place to have a high quality dinner. I always make a reservation through resy so I'm not caught without a table. At my most recent visit, we had the grilled octopus and steak frites. Everything was excellent as usual. On other occasions, I've enjoyed their mussels, steak tartare, and tagine lamb rack. The downsides are the proximity of the tables to one another and the fact that it can get a bit noisy when it's busy, but the menu and wine list are enough to keep me coming back.

Cafe Luxembourg never misses! It is always a reliable, constant in a busy, chaotic city. You feel as if you walked into a brasserie in Paris. The entire staff is exceptional, from the hostesses that greet you, waiters, bartenders, porters, cooks/chefs, & managers. You are welcomed and well taken care of. The food is superb, ambiance is chic af, and the experience is divine. I HIGHLY recommend!

Went to this lovely neighborhood restaurant our first night in NYC. The food was outstanding. Service was good.

They have the outdoor heated dining experience perfected even in winter! Good and service were fantastic! Love this place! Go support them so they’re ready for us indoors when restrictions are lifted. You’ll be glad you did.

For these prices go to a better restaurant Diner quality is better than this Below average quality and service is not to par Skip it

Cafe Luxembourg feels like a throwback to the old Upper Westside. The guests themselves make it an event not be missed ! The food was delicious, we had the burger and the Steak Frites, both were extremely flavorful and the fries unforgettable. The service is impeccable and the beautiful decor wants to make you stay forever

This local favorite features Luxembourg cuisine....a great niche between French and Belgian. And as well as the shoulder to shoulder little tables inside, they have a spacious (and heated) outside/covered sidewalk dining alternative. Very calm.

You need to book as this place gets super busy. We met friends for brunch and had a great time. Egg dishes were great - somewhat simple cafe but with plenty of sides and great flavour. Coffee was good and staff were really helpful. Just a note - we tried to go back with family a couple of days later but were told no prams allowed (two tiny tots with us), so had to cancel after walking there in the pouring rain and needed to find another place.

I am a huge fan of When Harry Met Sally and had read this is where they filmed the double date scene. The food and waitstaff were both great. We got the purple rice bowl and and the sweet corn ravioli- both delicious. Would recommend!

I had not been to he Cafe Luxembourg in many years. When I was invited by a friend to a Lincoln Center event, I suggested dinner here and I'm glad I did. It still has that timeless feel and its usual excellent service. The menu remains classic bistro, and we enjoyed fish and chips and a lobster roll, both well prepared and presented. While I appreciate that standard dishes of this type are what this restaurant is known for, I propose the addition of a few lighter choices for those of us who would like a bit less calorie intensive.

It's been over a year since we last visited Cafe Lux, and were very happy when we recently returned to have dinner with good friends. Fish and Chips are better than what we've had in UK, and the Profiteroles are as always a must. Steak tartare was good also.

I went there last Sunday at noon when it was cold and windy. The wait time for a table was one hour. Due to time constraint, I chose to sit at the bar. What a great choice to sit at the bar! The Luxemburg sandwich I ordered was delivered quickly. Not only it was delicious, it was big enough for two meals. It's a happy place with outstanding service. I can't wait to go back on December 8 after my next Saturday Matinee opera - Il trittico.

Today dinner Wonderful Adelaide at the reception to get us the right table Our waiter was perfect and the food great Tuna tartare and mushroom to start Salmon and steak au poivre to follow All just right

This venue has a sophisticated environment which it has maintained over many years. Sophisticated yet comfortable. Our brunch was first rate—eggs, ricotta pancakes & more—which other reviewers cover. The service was attentive, but formal. Quite a relaxed and enjoyable experience. Recommended.

It has been around since I recall going to my first Opera… many, many years ago. And it has always been same good quality, reliable service and good authentic bistro fare. Open until late so a great option after a performance in Lincoln Center.

I had lunch there today. The atmosphere was very good, it was busy but not loud. The server was knowledgeable of the menu and the wine list. I had the onion soup which was sweet, not bad, but very different than what I am used to. I also had the salmon tartare and was surprised to see slices of avocado on top, it works, the taste and texture work so well together. I really enjoyed my lunch there, it's definitely a classic French bistro.

Cafe Luxembourg gets terrific rating from Zagat and other reviews. We were sorely disappointed. Very noisy and crowded with tables for two 8 inches apart. Menu was limited but interesting ideas Tuna tartare was delicious at $23 for an appetizer but avocado base was three times larger than thin topping of tuna. Price for two including one appetizer, one glass of wine and two entree was $175. I’d skip it

Had brunch here with friends and it was very enjoyable. I would recommend making a reservation as it can get very busy. I had the French onion soup which was good and my husband had the ricotta pancakes which he really enjoyed. Good atmosphere with a range of different ages. The service was also very good. We were a group of 6 and initially were offered 2 tables of 3 but when we arrived the manager arranged for 1 table for the group, he really went out of his way to accommodate us. Glad we went here for brunch.

My family and my sister and her family came for brunch on New Years Eve Day (12/31). Was greeted by the Mgr who was very kind and sincere and our hostess showed us to our table. Working in hospitality myself for over 30 years it’s always nice to be on the other side of enjoying a meal especially during the holidays. We sat at a table with the mirror behind us which was perfect because it was not as noisy as the rest of the room. The oysters were yummy and the moms had the frisée salad. I had the smoked salmon Benedict sans (without) hollandaise sauce w/ fries. Daughter had Mac n cheese and nephew and brother in law both had burgers. I do think the drinks could have been a little bigger, I had their Bloody Mary served in a water glass, was hoping it’ll be served in a pint glass like other restaurants or cafes do. But their draft beer was good to. The staff was setting up the room for their NYE Celebration and my daughter wanted a very large balloon which adorned their ceiling, unfortunately she couldn’t take plus we were headed to The Big Apple Circus afterwards. Thankfully I called weeks in advance as the place was filled to the gills. Thanks again.

Every staff interaction, from the initial check-in, until the time we paid was both friendly and professional. This was some of the best service we’ve received at any New York City restaurant. The food was fantastic, we both had the steak frites with garlic butter. From what we received, the cost was very reasonable. Both the host and the waiter asked us about our theater plans to make sure we got our food in plenty of time to make our show. We will most definitely be going back.

This is still one of my favorite restaurants in the neighborhood. I stopped in for lunch recently and had a great experience. Their French onion soup is the best and their steak frites were very good too.

Been many years since we visited this classic restaurant. Will not be back. The French feeling is missing as was the fine cooking that Keith McNally had brought to this upper westsider.

We had a wonderful dinner here, the staff were very attentive and the food was really delicious. We both had the roast chicken and it was amazing!

Reservations are a must. We had different items from the menu to try...They were all excellent. The lamb, the omelette, steak fries, onion soup, grilled octopus, grilled chicken and the best manhattans!!! The desserts are wonderful and the service at this classic upper west restaurant is impeccable!

Café Luxembourg is a perfect New York Bistro. Not Parisian, not Lyonnaise…New York. I was more than happy to pay just under $100 for my burger at the bar. That’s because I started with a perfect martini ($15) served by a professional and friendly bartender across a zinc bar looking out on a classic NY cityscape and across a bar filled with the most diverse, only-in-New York crowd you could ever want at a party at your own house. Followed by three delicious oysters ($10.50) with a delightful mignonette, not too acid, an ideal foil for these plump local oysters. I love the kinds of salads you get in French bistros and Lux’s is the ideal ($13), cold leaves of excellent mixed greens in a sharp but mouthcoating dressing. It looked big but I ate it easily. Then the burger. The Café Luxemburger ($24 with cheese of your choice) isn’t on any magazine’s best burgers list but I’d pay twice as much for this delicious hunk of luscious meat than any overhyped, skinny junk danny meyer is hashing out in those crowded cafeterias of shake shack shxx. Washed down with a tap beer ($10) I was delighted by the environment and the people and happily sated by the perfect dishes. You always feel happy and well taken care of at this classic New York spot.

I just bought an apartment in NYC near Cafe Luxembourg. I am desperate for a go to restaurant. It won’t be here. My partner and I shared a chicken dumpling appetizer, I had a vegetarian salad nicoise my partner had a piece of very small cod. We had a glass of Rose each. The bill was $150. The atmosphere which is tables very crowded together. You can here every word of the people sitting next to you, does not warrant this high price tag what we found to be very mediocre food. We will nevercome back here.

Have not been to CL for at least 20 plus years. A great place as it was a long time ago. Super friendly and professional service. Excellent choice and taste of french bistro food. Will for sure be back. Just like myself the crowd grew older but still a very good vibe. The drinks are generous and well prepared. Impressive for sure.

Dinner at Cafe Luxemburg was simply and wonderfully delicious! The mussels! The lobster roll! The frites! And the Baby Beet salad!!

Excellent preshow dinner. Enjoyed vegan burger and fries. Service was excellent. Setting a delight. Couldn’t have been better.

This is our go to restaurant especially if we are attending a concert at Lincoln Center or hosting friends from out of town. The service is top notch. The waiters are very attentive and accommodating. More water is brought to the table before you even have to ask for it. Space on the table is cleared in advance of dessert arriving. You don't have to do a thing but enjoy the food. And the food is quite good. The Luxemburgers are my favorite. And when you order medium rare you GET medium rare. I also love the steamed mussels. I recently went dining in the sidewalk set up with six people. I wasn't sure how that would go, but it was totally great. Heated lamp directly above the table and at some point I forgot we were outside. If you go on a weekend I recommend you make a reservation in advance.

A local suggested this favorite haunt and the food was delicious. Cassoulet, Coq au Vin, Steak and Chips, everyone was absolutely satisfied with their dish. Too bad the wine prices are too pricey, which is a bit unfair when there was no moderately priced wine, but we indulged and had the Girgondas. Highly recommended for basic french/ belgian/ luxemb dishes.

Amazing brunch in a small and intimate French Cafe. The steak tartare and pomme frites were relish! Friendly and helpful service.

I reviewed Café Luxembourg in 2016 and have visited here many times since then, but these covid days impel me to provide a more recent perspective as restaurants struggle. Not surprisingly this establishment has risen to the occasion that these difficult times have thrown at all restaurants. The sidewalk dining has been set up professionally and comfortably. The staff and food are top notch… as they always have been. I enjoyed a recent addition to their menu… sweet pea ravioli. It was something different and tasty. The sticky toffee pudding was an excellent choice for dessert. And they still have one of the best manhattans in the city. I always look forward to a Luxembourg meal, and I am never disappointed.

For a nostalgic dose of a Paris arrondissement with NYC energy, this is the place. With its warm greeting, assured service and traditional menu, memories rule. Surrounded by red banquettes, bathed in subdued lighting and set with small, white-clothed tables, the décor provides a subtle, romantic ambience. The sophisticated clientele felt like props for a perfect evening. I went for oysters followed by the legendary steak frites cooked properly rare and an extravagantly stunning Pauillac. The waiter was wonderfully unobtrusive in keeping the table space clear and well-presented. I am hard of hearing, so best of all was how easy it was to converse with my guest. Reservations highly recommended.

I'm happy to say that they're still doing well after lockdown and all of the changes covid has brought. Their food is still great and they have nice outdoor and indoor ambiance. I had the steak tartare and it was excellent.

Cafe Luxembourg has a nice, relaxed feel and has great food and service. Our waiter was very attentive and friendly. I had the cassoulet, which was fantastic and filling, and my girlfriend enjoyed the moules frites. Our reservation was early at 5:45, but I think it got us better and faster service. Towards the end of our dinner, the rush started and things got a bit hectic.

Stopped in without reservation and sat at the bar. The only 2 seats left. Old fashioned but clean and classic. Great service, good prices and good food. I had a chicken Milanese. Had lunch one drink and back to our day. Great location.

Lovely atmosphere last night but very busy Excellent cocktails and Moules as good as Paris Starters not that great but not an issue Wine is expensive but it is near Central Park

We arrived about 9:30 and had our choice of tables. I had a mimosa and the farro-sweet potato-spaghetti squash-poached egg bowl. It was soooo delicious! They also support the NYC school garden program. My husband had a garden omelette; it was cooked to perfection.

I keep coming back to Cafe Luxembourg on periodic visits to NYC, hoping it will be really good. Instead it is almost always just average. For the price, one can certainly do better in the area.

Typical New York restaurant, excellent service. I recommend the Caesar Salad which is truly worth trying. Recommended, worth trying

My lobster roll was perfect. Thanks Jimmy for getting the aioli on the side. Hubby’s omelet was creamy, fluffy and took him to happy place. Onions, mushrooms, bacon and cheddar were perfect. They accommodate gluten and dairy allergies easily. Appreciate Anna confirming our reservation and getting us the right size table.

Booked a reservation for breakfast at Cafe Luxembourg specifically because I’d read about the restaurant in a book and wanted to try it out. My two friends and I thoroughly enjoyed our eggs Benedict for breakfast. The server was very knowledgeable when I questioned him about gluten free options (I have celiac) and they were able to make my eggs Benedict on top of gluten free toast. The potatoes are also gluten free as they are simply fried in oil and spices, nothing questionable like flour. Pricing was reasonable for New York. I would definitely return to Cafe Luxembourg on a future trip.

Near Lincoln Center, this cafe has been a fixture in the Upper West Side for decades. The breakfast menu included fruit, granola, and egg dishes. Coffee excellent. Service excellent. Breakfast with coffee will be ~20 per person, not atypical however for similar cafes. The 72nd and B’way subway stop on the red line is 2blocks away.

One of the Lincoln Center area’s better restaurants, we always enjoy dinner here. On this visit I started with asparagus (white as well as green) and artichoke hearts and then had salmon (cooked to perfection), served on a bed of fava beans, spring peas, and mushrooms.

The food was excellent -- omlet, grilled cheese and tomato soup, bagel, and oh my goodness the peanut butter ice cream was to die for! An excellent brunch on the Upper West Side. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The tables are close together in order to fit many people inside, but it isn't uncomfortable.

We had an early breakfast, opens 8am, and had the French toast, excellent, and oatmeal. No complaints. Quiet at that hour and prompt service and not crowded. Nice atmosphere.

I absolutely love this place. We live a block away and come here frequently for the excellent quality food and near faultless service. The only drawback is the perpetually crowded bar.

We don’t mind paying for an expensive meal, but for an above average price, we expect imaginative cooking or, perhaps, exotic ingredients. At Café Luxembourg, the check was indeed above average, but the reason, we agreed, was the Café’s high rent, not its culinary skill. Of the 3 of us, the ladies decided to share the signature Steak Frites ($40!), and a side of roasted Brussels sprouts ($12). I had sea scallops with leeks and quinoa ($36). No glass of wine was listed for under $15, so my wife and I ordered a half-bottle (2½ glasses!) of Isole e Olena Chianti Classico, a nice red, which, at $30 compared to $17 on the Internet was probably our best bargain. Apart from the cost, the ladies were happy with their steak, potatoes, and sprouts. They were amazed, however, at being asked to pay a supplement if they wanted the meat sauced. (Note to the Café: Nickel-and-diming your customers is not smart when they are already paying $40 for a half-pound steak with French fries!) My three scallops were just ok; yes, they tasted like scallops, but they didn’t feature the crispy, browned, buttery exterior one hopes for. The leeks were stringy, as leeks tend to be; but that made the dish less satisfying. A different green would have been a better choice. Bread was not served until we asked for it. The Café was crowded and noisy, but our service was cheerful and attentive. Would we go back? Well, maybe if it was late, and it was raining, and we happened to be just a few steps away.

Very nice environment , too hot to sit outside we decided to eat inside. Little space but very good food and great service.

Friendly staff, lots of variety on menu. Enjoyed our dinner. Seems pricey but it's French so not unexpected.

We are neighborhood clients who have a pied -a-terre on the UWS so have frequented this spot on a somewhat regular basis. I am sorry to say things have changed. Service and attitude are maitre d’ dependent and prices remind you that you are handing over a lot of cash for basically mediocre food. Go at your own risk. My last trip ran into cold shoulders and rude treatment all thrown in for a few hundred dollars. Au revoir.

Always a 'must visit' for us on any trip to New York, our latest visit didn't disappoint. We had brunch, perfect surroundings, Parisian chic meets a New York vibe. Retro style but fully authentic, great food, great service and the perfect environment. My Eggs Benedict was perfect, my wife's omelette likewise, and our 9yr old daughter was able to order off the menu with sourdough toast, scrambled egg and sausage (links), all topped off with a Bellini (not for the daughter(!)). No better start to the day....so good, we're going back from our last day brunch tomorrow!

The food here is very good, served by pleasant staff. This is bistro food with some more elegant dishes, attractively presented. Prices for main courses are in the 20s and 30s for the most part, with a few dishes more expensive. The interior is attractive and reminds one of France, more or less. The noise level is moderate. Tables are close together but we weren't bothered by the conversation of our neighbors because the upholstered seats dull the sound. I'd have liked a few more mussels, and more that would open, but the sauce is excellent and the fries are thin-cut, very nicely done. The sparse mussels account for my less than perfect rating.

I wanted to go to Cafe Luxembourg because I missed their superb French Onion Soup. I have had it there many times and it is far better than any I have had in other cities and on multiple cruises. In fact I actually dislike onions but for some reason I really like onion soup. Go figure .So for me this was all i needed to feel fulfilled. My wife also had the onion soup and came out with the statement (which I was about to say) that no one else comes close! She had also ordered a steak dish and an appetizer but after the appetizer and the soup (and bread) had no room for her min course. Our guest had the mussels which he thought was good. Our waiter Jared was terrific. Personable and knowledgeable and quite efficient.

Went for dinner before the opera. My partner ordered the duck, grossly under cooked and inedible. I ordered the Toulouse style cassoulet which was too die for. I'd go back, but definitely not order the duck.

We stopped in on this restaurant that has some local history for lunch. My husband had the salmon (not cooked throughout and cold/raw in the center. We lived in Alaska for 12 years and know a thing or two about eating that fish. This was not cooked right. My selection was the Cobb salad with chicken. What i got was freshly cooked chicken ( tasty) on top of a few greens (wilted from the hot chicken) resting on a piece of round (soggy) bread and a hard boiled egg. In the middle if the greens was a blob of cream cheese! Cobb salad it WAS NOT! This dish should have been offered as chicken with a small salad.

We had a terrific brunch here. The food was exquisitely prepared and artistically presented. I chose Cafe Luxembourg because of its proximity to the Metropolitan Opera, for which I had tickets. I let them know ahead of time that we had time constraints, and they got us seated and fed quickly. Despite a full house with a line at the door, they never made us feel rushed. Great service all around here. The interior is spotless, with lots of thoughtful design elements. It's reminiscent of an Art-Deco period NYC lunch counter. My meal was in late December, and the dining room was beautifully decorated for the holidays! Even the restrooms had fresh cut flower arrangements. I can't wait to return to try their dinner menu.

It may not be Paris but it has the flavor. Wait staff is pleasant and helpful and many menu selections. Both the Country Salad at $18.00 and the Beet Salad at $17.00 were delicious. More than enough for two women for lunch. I've had better cucumber gimlets @ $15.00 but it was refreshing. For dessert you can order just one scoop of ice cream or gelato. Nice touch. Make a res it's busy. Only a five minute walk to Lincoln Center and not a frenetic place for lunch.

The outdoor seating area was comparatively large and very pleasant. The service was very efficient. I had the watermelon and tomato gazpacho followed by the tuna burger, both of which were delicious. The restaurant is on the expensive side but this is NYC afterall.

Except for the close quarters and a little too cramped, the atmosphere is definitely straight off The Champs-Elysées! Very attentive service and typical bistro offerings (although nothing out of the ordinary) are the draw. The food is trés ordinaire for the prices charged. Cocktails are very good, but also pretty steeply priced. Brunch for 3 with two cocktails, 2 coffees, 3 burgers, and one dessert ran $175 with the tax and tip!! Recommend? I guess so---maybe dinner is more reasonable? Basically, we had a nice time but it shouldn't come at such a high cost.

This is an average bistro/brasserie with pretensions of being more - apparently the UWS crowd buys into these pretensions because it is absolutely packed every evening, and that's the rub - it's far too crowded to be pleasant.

Had a great brunch here. The croque monsieur was good, as was the Burger and fries. Good and attentive service. The restaurant is a bit bleak though. On a nice sunny day you enter and it's dark and gloomy. Would much prefer if they let the light in!

Breakfast on a Thursday morning was rather limited options. I needed to enjoy life amid it was a cold rainy day. A place to chill where there is good quality food for indoor setting, a seat and someone to service me are all that I request. Customer service is impeccable to greet me upon entering, ushering me to a open available table, order taking, guest check-in during dinning, removal of plate, and bill payment. I saw faces and warm smiles during my entire dinning experience. I was well attended and served. I like the decor and overall atmosphere as it is very bright despite being a dark rainy day. It reminisce me of Paris, France. Decor is very bright with a French flair of black and white postcards depicting three naked women displaying their bare buttocks wearing only high heels. Mimosa $14 Slightly too much orange pulp. Two Eggs Any Style $15 Choice of toast, herbed potatoes or mixed greens Choice of ham, bacon, or sausage I decided on medium cooked scrambled eggs, white toast and sausage. I was provided orange marmalade, strawberry preserves, and butter for the toast. I have a predilection for butter and orange marmalade which reminds me of British Paddington Bear. The small jars of orange marmalade and strawberry preserves appear produced from local farms and the jars were difficult to open. With the passage of time by mid-afternoon hunger pangs strike as this entree did not eat my fill. Nota bene: facilities are labels "WC" for British English "water closet." Facilities are relatively clean and resembles an English countryside. Access to Cafe Luxembourg is the 1 local train at 72nd Street station located in Upper West Side between Amsterdam Avenue and End Avenue of West 70th Street.

1) Manager was not flexible at all and she won’t split the check, however, when one is on a business trip, it gets tricky for reimbursement. She made it difficult for me. 2) The salad came with my entree was not fresh at all as you can see from my photo. The manager tried to bring out a fresh salad plate later, but too bad, I was done with my eating. 3) The salad didn’t have much taste either and hardly dressed. We had to ask for more dressing. 4) I gave the star to the waiter which was professional and sympathetic.

Meal was great. Wine was great. and the service was excellent. Had the Spicey Hamachi Tartare, steak tartare, endive salad, and lemon tart. All washed down with Gruner Veltliner

Met a Friend in NYC for breakfast. Great place to eat. Classic Diner food and inlets. The space was limited, but not atypical for NYC.

We went for brunch. Had to wait a few minutes as it was packed. I recommend making a reservation. We sat at the bar and the service was great. Food and cocktails are great. Pommes frites are out of this world

A classic French bistro, Cafe Luxembourg has been a mainstay on the West Side for years. Its food continues to be good (some dishes better than others--e.g. the Brussel sprouts salad, lobster roll and especially the fries!) but the restaurant is very crowded--tables are very close together making it hard to enter and exit--and noisy. Fun but not a place for a quiet, intimate dinner.

This cafe is right around the corner from my apartment in NYC.The waiters are all super friendly and helpful which is a plus. The food is excellent too although it is a little expensive for what it is. The decor and ambience of the cafe is what is really appealing as it has an authentic French character. I would recommend this place.

Cafe Luxembourg is owned by the same people as The Odeon and Cafe Cluney. Both of these are NY institutions so I knew dinner would be very good. Food was delicious as expected and service was very attentive and skilled. A bonus is a few low key well known neighborhood residents which makes for nice people watching.

We happened upon this gem quite by chance and were immediately taken with its old world charm and its handsomely mannered hosts and waitstaff who were all at the top of their game in terms of sensing the smallest need (water, directions, etc.) before being asked. It may be a bit pricey, but we had no complaints so lovely was the experience. Our waiter was superb. Personable, attentive to detail, helpful and thoughtful (the extra container of ketchup was a nice touch when he sensed my addiction to it); we were made to feel completely at home. The food, simple as our order may have been, was flawless. My burger was gourmet and of a generous portion. The pommes frites were genuine. And my friend’s avocado toast with egg and greens was flavorful. The restrooms were spotless, equipped with hot water, fine soaps and substantial paper towels, and dressed with consideration and even a touch of humor. This is one of the nicest restaurant experiences I’ve had in NYC.

A special occasion and the food and service were perfect! The server was friendly and very attentive. The food couldn’t have been better. The hostesses were constantly checking.

Four of us ate at Cafe Luxembourg before a concert at the Beacon Theatre. We all enjoyed our food: mussels, soups, salads, and burger/frites. The wait staff was attentive and made sure that we were on our way in time for the concert.

A great NYC institution. The ambiance and atmosphere are quite wonderful. The food is pretty simple and OK, but nothing special, but stick to the classics and you will be a happy camper. A great spot for a late evening meal after the ballet. I hadn't been here since Covid started, and was happy to go back.

I recently went to Cafe Luxenbourg for brunch and it was very good. The atmosphere was glam and the food was very good. Service excellent as well. Nice place reasonably priced.

After long time ( to long ) e lunch at Cafe Luxembourg. Same lovely and cozy ambiance. Very good and attentive service, from the front to the table. Food still very good,in particular Sear tuna and tartare. Nice dessert and very good wine list. Have to go back soon !

I just love Cafe Luxembourg, and not only because it is a short walk from my hotel. No matter what I order it is perfection. I had dinner there twice this trip - the watermelon gazpacho and the moules-frites were so perfect I ordered them on both visits, and only had different desserts to finish - one night the profiteroles, and the other night the cinnamon donut holes - they both were worth every calorie. I have been here many times on many different trips and the service is always fantastic. This restaurant is a must for me on every visit.

Friendly welcome, we ate very well, hearty plate, attentive and pleasant staff....and we particularly appreciated the cocktail offered on the occasion of the anniversary of Café Luxembourg, it was very nice!!!!

We have owned a place in the neighborhood for years and have enjoyed meals here many times. Hadn’t been in awhile so we stopped in for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. I order the luxumburger with gruyere and fries every time and it’s always wonderful-$22 + an extra $2 for cheese yikes-my husband ordered steak and eggs with salad greens (which alone were amazing) -strip steak seasoned and grilled to perfection $44 again pretty strong 3 glasses of Cabernet Rose at $13 per glass and a lemon ricotta for dessert. A pricey meal to be sure but at least you are getting your monies worth. Vintage decor charming as well.
Good But Inconsistent
I've been coming here off and on for 50 years. Our most recent visit was an improvement over some earlier ones, service was good and one entree, the lobster roll with fries, was very good. But roast chicken was rather stingy portion-wise and arrived warm, not hot. Good hot fudge sundae....but hey, it's a sundae, nothing fancy. It's hard to get value for your money in the Lincoln Center area because there''s so much demand and CL is no exception. That said, it's still stylish and has French bistro appeal, so hopefully it will continue to iron out the wrinkles.
