I tried the famous truffle burger. It was good, but not the best. Not that many truffles! The zucchini/eggplant starter was delicious. What I liked best about this place was the atmosphere. relaxed, cool, unpretencious. Really great soundtrack, one of the best!

Popped in here for a drink while waiting for our table at Balthezar, which worked well for us. Buzzy brunch spot with quirky decor and an interesting drinks list. Enjoyable.

Sunday breakfast of bratwurst veal sausage and turkey and avacado sandwich. Good food. Only 1 sausage. Chips with sanwhich but no choice offered. Bottle tap water at table was nice. Service good. $20 before tax. Service slowish. Cool brit music (pulp, small faces, etc). Noticed other busier places down Lafayette, but this was ok. Found it based on time out new york brunch recommendation.

Loved the a Ambiance, though it was crowded. We had to wait long for food, but it was worth it and we got free croissants. The cortado coffee was delicious. The service was friendly. And the eggs perfectly poached

Love to go to Cafe Select for breakfast. The Birchermuesli with fresh fruit as as good if not even better than in Switzerland (love the fresh apple in it), the coffee is strong, and there are a lot of Swiss decorative elements in it, including the iconic PTT letterbox outside. Fair prices, service is a bit slow at times.

We were attracted by the very nice decoration and ambiance, but immediately the inhospitality of the waiters put us off. They were cold and rude, which made our stay there uncomfortable and unpleasant. I would not recommend.

It's always great at Oliver's. Wonderful food, top service. Perfect ambience. Always happy to come back. We look forward to our next visit!

We went to dinner as a party of four on a Saturday night, early in the evening. The hostess welcomed us and led us to the smallest table imaginable for 4 people. It turned out fine as we decided to order fondue and a couple appetizers. However, 4 entree plates would not have fit on the table. The server was friendly and offered guidance on the menu. We chose the classic fondue, zucchini chips and something else less memorable. The fondue was amazing, as were the zucchini chips. The wine was also very good. All in all, it was a very nice dinner, although a bit cramped. I would recommend Cafe Select for sharing fondue and wine or small plates.

Really convenient location. The service is top notch. We enjoyed our meal and drinks. Very nice ambiance.

This Swiss/ Austrian restaurant has a limited themed menu but a nice atmosphere. We were walk ins but only had to wait 10 minutes for a table. My partner's veal was nice but the pasta was underwhelming- so keep to the specialities! Although the spätzle didn't really resemble its Austrian counterpart.

This is a great breakfast place in near Soho and Chinatown. I highly recommend the granola. The coffee is delicious. I think the wait staff, as often happens in downtown NY restaurants, is a little tired from the evening of...whatever...and doesn't seem very happy to be serving you in the morning. But they are very efficient and the food they bring is great.

We found this restaurant by luck and we were very lucky. The food was great, poached eggs over rosti potato, topped with a giant muzzarela de bufala. Just perfect. Coffee was also very good.

I really didn't enjoy the cappuccino in this place. However we tried one of their daily specials which was potato Rosti with avocado, mozzarella burata and prosciutto which I found quite inventive and very yummy! The interior looks good and the staff is very polite. The lights in the ceiling could use some cleaning (a whole load of dust hanging over our heads) and what was wrong with the restroom?? It was freezing!

Really cute little place that we have wanted to try. Glad we were able to make it there this trip. Really good swiss food. Nice atmosphere. Had a wonderful arugula salad. Had an amazing appetizer, zucchini chips! Loved them. Linguini and clams were also delicious. Will definitely be back.

I popped into Cafe Select for a latte to go before a lunch meeting one day in NYC. Coffee was DELISH and the food menu looked terrific! I want to head back and stay for a meal next time. Highly recommend!

Stumbled across this lovely little cafe while walking through Soho. It was busy and the service was fast and great atmosphere for a Saturday afternoon in the city. We had salads and they were great. Definitely recommend for lunch and will go back

This was a cute little diner in Chelsea, with breakfasts like those you'd order in Switzerland. Great eggs and unique potatoes. Coffee was good and service was excellent. A nice choice for those on a budget.

The food was really good and such a good atmosphere. My friends got the burgers, which they really enjoyed. I got the quinoa salad which was so fresh and nice. The staff were always smiling, very friendly and polite.

First time at the restaurant. Very busy but equally efficient and comforting. Our server, Carolina recommended some of the specials, pea soup and lobster bisque. Excellent fragrances and taste. The beet salad, rosti and avacado toast were delicious. We were very pleased to have such excellent food and service on a coolish NY afternoon.

Based on reviews I had high hopes for an authentic Swiss cheese fondue. The sides were weird (grapes) and under cooked (Raw potato!). It totally ruined the experience.

Was referred to this place by a mate as he said they do great coffee. Well I have to agree as the coffee was the best that I have had in NYC. With the coffee I had the two poached eggs over a rosti with apple smoked bacon. This was an excellent choice as it was easy to eat and filling. Try as they have a great range of food for breakfast and good service

This place has great food, the Fondue is fantastic. It's NYC standard price ($30 a person with drinks). The Zucchini chips are insanely good, as was the Truffle Fondue. There are some great places to have an intimate meal...if you know what to ask for.

We booked reservations in advance which was good since it was busy. The fondu room is in the back of the restaurant and has a really fun atmosphere! It a inmate space with high ceiling and exposed stone walls. We ordered “SOUTH OF THE ALPS” fondue with fresh tomatoes, sun dried tomatoes & olives. I could not eat enough of it! Highly recommend!

We stumbled on this place given the wait was so long at Jack's wife Freda. It's hip with an eclectic crowd. Our first experience of the service was less than stellar as we engaged the bar tender as we waited for our table. He seemed hung over and spectacularly detached from any of his customers. I asked for a spicy virgin Bloody Mary and was charged $12 for a very average tomato juice. I queried the charge when we settled up to move to the table as it said "Bloody Mary." He said there was no separate button (fine) but I was more intrigued that it was charged the same as the vodka version. Not ok! Our table service on the other hand, was welcoming, knowledgeable and efficient and the food did not disappoint. My partner had a delicious fried halloumi and spinach number with a very fresh side salad. I had stellar Norwegian rosti with salmon and a chive sauce. It was fast and good. Overall a mixed experience.

We dined here this weekend and had a very good meal in a very interesting atmosphere. The ceiling of the cafe is filled with icicle christmas lights, which gives it a very warm feeling, almost like dining under the stars. The menu is very interesting, a definite Swiss flair. We started with the escargot and the winter bruschetta, both excellent. My husband had the veal which he said was very good and I had the quinoa salad, decent but tasted like something I could have made at home. The wine and beer selection was great. The service could have been better, but it was a Friday evening, so understandable she was a bit rushed.

The best ever "bloody mary" is here!! Friendly staff and very good menu! To be honest, its the best cafe in soho for your brunches!

Called in on our way back late after a show and were warmly welcomed. Unusual menu and interesting. We had a variety of dishes from lobster bisque to burger and steak tartare. All very good. The place was cosy and atmospheric with great music playing and a very cool vibe. Recommended.

Got sick of waiting for the place up the street for brunch. Happy decision though. The atmosphere is great, the food is diverse and very tasty prepared well with aparently fresh ingredients. The price to value was a bit off thus the 4/5.

Cafe Select is ok but not more than that - at least for breakfast. I had the Select Complete and got four slices of bread with some Jam and also (luckily) ordered a boiled egg. The place is nice and the staff is friendly, but better places in the same area. It goes without saying though, that this place is widely recommended by New Yorkers, so worth a shot if you're in the neighbourhood.

Jack's Wife Freda lined up for a couple hours? Don't hesitate to take your impatience to Cafe Select. The service isn't anything to write about (I just did) but the food is done right. If perfectly poached eggs, healthy portions, and farm fresh ingredients are exactly what you want for your first meal of the day, then choose Cafe Select. As a sidebar, I felt a little odd about their 'no tip' policy, but I went with Australians and their "Pfft" more than made up for my unease.

Always a fun time Friendly service, reasonable drinks and snacks and lively crowd. Outside seating as well as inside too

Really bad service, it took over 30 min to get my Margarita. I had to ask everyone working in the cafe to order and each one I asked to had different answer “im not a waiter”, “i work behind the bar”, “im the host”. Very bad service, didn’t wanna leave a tip but I felt bad.

Loved it. Cute, Parisian feel lunch location. Good food, good drinks. Would definitely go back next time we are in town.

I went here on an extremely rainy day in search of some breakfast food. I got the Lemon French Toast with carmelized fruit and a sweetened alpine iced herbal tea. The Lemon French Toast was absolutely delicious. I would 100% go back to have that dish again. I strongly suggest getting it - the lemon flavor worked so well with the toast and the fruit surrounding it was sooo good. The iced tea complemented the food so well and it was the perfect meal to match the not-so-nice weather outside. Also, someone who worked there was extremely nice and offered us extra umbrellas they had in their basement. We said we would take one and she brought us back a pretty nice looking Ikea umbrella. Overall, I had an extremely positive experience. The service was great, the food was great, the inside was adorable. The decorations were perfect and the ceiling was full of little lights, creating an ideal atmosphere for a lazy breakfast. Wish I had pictures to show you all! NEXT TIME!

First of all I think the location is great in the lower part of Manhattan. There are plenty of bars to drop by after your visit at this restaurant. The area is nothing but great. Loved the interior of this place. Cool and a bit vintage style. The service was very good and I was very happy with my food as well. Will definitely go back next time in NY.

Great ambience drew us to this restaurant and we were well rewarded. Great, friendly staff and a good tight menu. Quite a locals place as we were the only foreigners in on a Saturday night. The menu looked great and we were very happy with the food. Highly recommended.

We totally enjoyed our meal at Cafe Select! It is a very cute, intimate space with a lot alcoves and quiet corners. The ambiance is very casual and would be great for a first date. The service was very good, the waiter was attentive without being overbearing. We had: Zucchini chips with 3 dips - Very tasty. The chips were lightly fried so you weren't choking on the oil. Bresaola Arugula Salad - Very good - air dried beef with arugula on top Bone marrow - delicious Hanger steak - extremely good Swiss Bratwurst - tasty Spatzli - delicious Apple strudel - delicious Mousse like dessert (white and regular chocolate) - very good Cafe Select also has a great and reasonably priced wine list. Can't wait to come back and try the fondue!!

If this place had a less generic name, people would be all over it! We ordered 2 different roesti (rösti?) dishes and were very pleased. My partner is from Germany and said he saw things on this menu that he's never seen in the US! A quiet relaxed day-to-night spot, great for brunch! Skip the lines at other brunch spots down the street and in the neighborhood and enjoy this European hole in the wall instead!

The tables were really small, the food was good and the service was efficient and quick. The staff was friendly.

Good food - salad, risotto, fish, bratwurst - all very tasty. I didn't care for their strudel - a nut or some=etching crunchy that I didn't like. Small inside like most NYC places. But not too cramped. The service was below par. Hard to get their attention just to get seated. Had to ask for every little thing because didn't check back often.

I am so glad that I found this European cafe near SoHo -- it's terrific! Although many items on the menu are enticing, I highly recommend the French Toast. I don't know how they prepare it, but it's by far the best french toast that I've ever eaten!! And that's not all -- my wife raves about the polenta! If you're in the area, and even if you aren't, stop by this place! It's excellent!

Went there to get a fondue, really enjoyed it. They also have a nice selection of wines. The menu is diverse and easy to choose from. I recommend this place, but book in advance !

We were served by this John Lennon looking guy that gave us cold bread and a frozen cube of butter. I wanted to throw the butter straight to his face. White bean soup that we had still had raw beans. Never again. Worst place for food.

Popular restaurant with nice food and a nice atmosphere. It can get quite noisy so it's probably better for a dinner with friends/colleagues before going out in the city than for a date. A good adress.

We came in, heading directly to the kitchen door as indicated by severals recognized Instagramers and get rejected with no explanations although we saw the bar behind the kitchen... 6 people (who obviously know the owner) get the entrance when cheecking the waiter. Fake news Fake "speakeasy", unwarming, reserved to selected ones... Just headed to Home Sweet Home on Christie's Street and get an exceptionnal time. BLACKLIST THIS ONE IT S A SHAME!!!

With the starbuks invasion it is getting more and more difficult to get a decent cup of espresso in the US. This must be one of the few places in NYC where you can have a good one.

Very nice little bar to hang out. Coctails are not that amazing but they have plenty ofther drinks to enjoy. Food menu has some SWISS surprises - and everywhere in the place you'll find some of most famous objects and brands from Switzerland.

we were staying in a hotel nearby and went to Cafe Select for breakfast. Interesting egg choices, fresh oj and good coffee. Atmosphere very comfortable and really enjoyed our relaxed meal!

We met friends here who live in the city. They recommended the cafe as they eat there quite often for special occasions. The wine and cocktails are very good. The food is also very good. Having just been introduced to "raclette" we were excited to see it on the menu. It was very good, a bit saltier than we've had, but still tasty. We also had the mussels in white wine, which were truly succulent and plentiful for the price. Our friends had the "marrow" - I'm not into it and have no comment, but they raved about it. There is a very small secret back bar area, which if not occupied, you can go visit for another drink or two. It is fun, and the old payphone on the wall is cleverly hooked up to a 900 number recording which is very entertaining. We would recommend and would go back again when in the city. It is rather loud and full of energy and seems to be a place that is a great gathering spot for friends, more than a couple wanting a romantic evening out.

We had Wiener Schnitzel and the Avocado and Turkey sandwich, which were delicious! Latte & cappuccino equally tasty. Casual atmosphere, friendly service, neighborhood feel. Loved it.

Late breakfast, cost effective, nice ambiance, good food and warm service. A little slow at the moment of the bill, but the price was worth the waiting... To try for lunch & dinner.

There's allot of competition in this market for the "food dollar" and this ones not going to win very often. It's a similar twist on the standard bistro model in every way. Think about the standard bistro menus, small tables, a few outdoor seats and tight quarters. That is this place. I get the impression that they don't even try to be above average. BTW - The "I won't try attitude" is ever present in the waitstaff. Don't get me wrong, they're pleasant as can be. But where are they hiding when you need something? If they won't try, neither will I!

TripAdvisor should introduce 3,5 Points ;-) We were sitting in the little Petrosino Square park high on sugar from Eileen's Special Cheesecake when we got a little bit cold and spotted Cafe Select across the road and decided to go in. The place looked as nice from inside with lots of ittle lights hanging from the ceiling that created a cozy atmosphere. It was around 5/6 pm and we immediately got seated but were told they'd need the table two hours (!) later because there was a reservation; some people might find that off putting as it might make feel them rushed to leave the place, thus ruining the dining experience. This review isn't fully representative as we only had a smaller menu but everything was perfectly fine. The food and drinks were served quickly by a very busy yet very very friendly and attentive male waiter, were quite cheap for New York standards and the soup of the day was pretty yummy as well.

Again thanks to our Aussie living in NYC mate, who steered us here and it was another fantastic recommendation. So casual yet warm (Freezing outside) with lovely twinkling Christmas lights strung across the entire ceiling. On entry you see a bar and we were given a nice banquette (for 4) table. Not a big place, not tiny either. Crowd was relaxed interesting, informal - casually sophisticated i that 'I live in Greenwich Village but I'm eating out here tonight' way. Beers were fantastic. malty and deep flavoured. We shared a classic cheese fondue and other Swiss dishes including a Spatleze type of dish. Chicken and everything was great. Service was just right. We had a wonderful warm and relaxing time at Cafe Select.

We discovered this restaurant by our hotel and ended going for coffee (delicious), breakfast (big portions and amazing) and brunch (so tasty) in a few days. It may not serve food very fast but it's worth the wait. We loved it!

This is a mix between a restaurant and a Café. The thing is, they don't just serve swiss food but they also charge swiss prices for the food. The food was very delicious and fresh made and as I can say it is real swiss food. Go there if you wanna experience a little swiss taste or if you're swiss and you miss the good swiss food. For everyone who just wants breakfast or lunch...it's simply too expensive. I had a 2dl Sprite and asked for 3 refills, they didn't say anything but then charged my for every refill...wtf?!

My review is completed with some trepidation as this place It seems needs no introduction to the locals. The staff at Troquet were kind enough to recommend as they were closing So our experience was that we were hungry it was late we had no reservation and expected to be fed Cafe Select was full of locals drinking eating and enjoying the eclectic atmosphere We really enjoyed the burgers with Gruyere cheese Clam linguini and then a superb cheese platter if French German and Italian varieties almonds and blackberries Not to mention the wines We came back for dinner the next night with a bigger party and were similarly welcomed and fed Understand that some celebs are known to frequent not surprised it’s super cool

I’ve had many successful evenings at Cafe Select. It’s a buzzy, well priced and popular - the Zurich Veal, pressed chicken are particular favorites and the Cotes Du Rhône is a great value wine choice. BUT - we went for breakfast last week (only because Jack’s Wife Frida was packed and we didn’t want to wait) and just like the previous time it was pathetic. There were only 3 or 4 tables occupied, but despite that, the coffee’s were Luke warm and the replacements were not much better. We enjoyed the granola - but cancelled the rest of our order and left. We went to Butchers Daughter which was fantastic as always. I suppose there is a reason why Jack’s Wife and Butchers are always packed and Select is empty - breakfast/brunch is clearly not their focus. A shame.

Loved the vibe and atmosphere at Cafe Select. The ceiling is covered with little lights, they have an nice little patio and lovely service. The food is good, I only have starters (zucchini chips and dip) nothing to write home about but no complaints. What I really loved were there cocktails. Would highly recommend for drinks with friend or on a date.

Nice and cozy place in Soho. We had lunch here and.the staff was easygoing and professional. They have rösti and tasty soups so it's perfect for lunch!

cant go wrong with anything on the menu. Cafe Select has a great atmosphere and is well priced. they have a german - swiss twist which is a great and new taste to have

Solid food, has the feel of a trendy central European cafe. The only thing I hate is the $25 minimum for using credit cards, which is completely ridiculous for a casual place like that.

Very cosy little restaurant in Soho. Very European style. waitress was super friendly and helpful. Burrata and bresaola as an appetizer very nice and I had cheese fondue as a main dish. It was perfect !

I visited this restaurant with my best friend on a Saturday night. It wasn't crowded at all and the waiters (we had several servers) were both quick and friendly. To start I tried the Escargots à la Bourguignonne, which was served with hot, toasted baguette bread. It was delicious! As a main course I had the Zürich veal. This is my #1 favorite dish and it has many variations, but the way its served at Café Select (the traditional recipe) is my personal preference and it exceeded my expectations. Small slices of tender veal and button mushrooms in a creamy white wine sauce served with crispy spätzli. I drool thinking about it.. The real treat was Rösti potato cake that I ordered as a side dish. This is a famous Swiss dish and you really have to try it to understand why its so beloved in Switzerland. My friend had the wild mushroom risotto and she said it was amazing. We cleaned our plates! For dessert we had Toblerone Mousse and Apple strudel, both were excellent. I was pleasantly surprised at how traditional the food is at this place. I expected something more 'eclectic' but I was happy to see that the food was good old hearty Swiss fare in appropriate portions. The only downside is that the food is quite expensive but this is normal for the location. I don't know about other people but for me it's worth it! I'll definitely be back.

Centrally located trendy restaurant bar, with good atmosphere and special design. We enjoyed sitting there drinking cocktails. My friend ordered food and said it was delicious. The place had very good service

in a neighborhood packed with restaurants. Stumbled in by chance for a snack and a glass at 6P between visiting interiors showrooms and a concert at St. Trinity's. Right by the Spring Street subway station, straight shot from the UES. Wine list compact but of great quality from per glass to 1/2 to full bottles. The Barbera went particularly well with the simple but amazing appetizer size raclette, the ricotta fritters and the charcuterie/cheese platter - all very reasonably priced, with authentic, quality Swiss ingredients, served with a smile. Many other intriguing offers on the menu will be explored shortly and at more leisure, for sure. Exciting, rewarding.

Had brunch with a friend there. I got the Bircher muesli which was very good at an affordable price. They serve it with bread and coffee.

This Swiss cafe is a great spot for both brunch and dinner. The tables outside provide a great place to relax and people watch. The atmosphere inside is fairytale-like and very chic. The crowd is a mix of students, hipsters, and trendy adults alike. For brunch, I recommend the lemon-infused French toast or the croque monsieur. In the evening, ask to be seated "in the back" and you will be taken to a former storage room past the kitchen that has been converted into a speakeasy. The atmosphere is cool and reminiscent of a ski chalet, a nice contrast to the main dining room. The speakeasy is cash only, but there is an ATM at the front of the restaurant. Overall, this cafe is a hidden gem and is the perfect start or end to a day in the city.

We were here for brunch and I didn't know the café before we entered. It was surprisingly good - big portions and a nice atmosphere. I would definately go here for brunch again.

A cosy european corner in New York. The food is of high quality and the decoration highlights all the international worldwide recognized elements such as a Rolex watch etc. When I visited the place I forgot my sunglasses which the team kept and gave them back to me the following day. This action would make me come back and enjoy a dinner at yours. Many thanks

Stumbled on this small Soho spot on a Saturday lunch time. i was there early, which was a good thing because there was a long line up by the time I left. It is small and crowded, but highly recommended for delicious food and efficient and friendly service. i had the croque monsieur and chips - a sinfully rich but delicious experience. A nice glass of wine accompanied - all for a reasonable price.

Nice spot and cute decor. Food took a long time to come. We had breakfast and only ordered eggs. The place was not busy so not sure why scrambling eggs took so long. The food was fine.

I'm surprised at some of the reviews. I agree this spot wasn't cheap and there are many diners where you can get an equally good meal for less than $20 all in, but our group loved it. We got lucky around 12:30 on a Saturday that there was one table for four open right when we arrived. I liked our waitress, the service pace was just right, neither slow nor rushed. We found plenty to choose from, because there were both breakfast and lunch style options. The portions were quite generous! I recommend the braesola aruglua salad, which two of us ordered. I also had the soup of the day (tomato, with a big slice of cheesy bread as accompaniment) and was stuffed and satisfied afterwards. When we left a line had formed outside. The crowd was young and good-looking. There are a few outdoor tables, but it's mostly indoor seating and pretty cozy. Restrooms could have been cleaner but there were two and it was fine. I would return for sure!

This place took a nose dive off the Swiss Alps. The kitchen malfunctioned and the service was geologic slow. The appetizers were room temperature, what this place will be soon. This is what happens when a place has been around too long and loses its focus. Farewell.

Keith McNally really have their followers for this kind of bistro, cafe ala old Europe.Little unattended staff, no extra effort. Bistro menu, you always find something. A quino salad, a Lobster BLT tastes quite OK in its price range.

Had an amazing specials today! Burrata with tomatoes - simple to the point- mouth orgazm guarantie!!!

We merely stopped here for a refreshment on a very hot New York City day. Cafe Select had a nice menu but alas, we were still digesting our lunch. So a coke and a margarita were on the order. Sitting up at the bar, out of the heat, we caught up on our plans for the rest of the day. The decor is absolutely gorgeous, with eye catching posters and prints and bud lights sprinkled across the entire ceiling. Had to take a photo of the Rolex clock mounted from the roof with Jim’s Omega watch in the foreground. Rolex’s fame of keeping accurate time didn’t hold up well against the Omega. 😂😂😂 If you come to dine, there is seating outdoors on the pavement which is enticing. That along with the funky decor and great customer service, makes #cafeselect one to put on your list. #thewanderingreviewer#newyork2024 @cafeselectnyc #caféselect #cafeselectnyc #omegawatch

We sat in the "speakeasy" in the back of the restaurant, which you reach by going through the kitchen! Cool vibe. Ordered drinks and had to chase the waitress for them 30 minutes later!! Fondue finally came a half hour after that!! Fondues were great, I have to say. We were never asked if we wanted a second drink. V poor. Ordered the chocolate fondue and although it was served over a candle, it was cold and never warmed up. Also gritty and not very good at all. To top all of this off, our bill was wrong! Charged for 7 fondues and we were only 5 people! Had to explain it to the waitress 3 times before she got it! Even worse was that they added a 22% tip for our "large group" of just 5!!! Our waitress did not deserve a 22% tip!!! Overall - good ambiance and fondue, but watch for overcharging and do not order the chocolate fondue!!!

Called for coffee before going on a walking tour, really just for convenience as the tour began over the road. The place was so inviting and menus looked great, so we returned for brunch after the tour. Good wine great service and wow, my husbands hanger steak won one of the best meals of the trip (and we had lots of good ones!) I had lobster roll which was yummy but have to say after trying a morsel of the steak I was envious. Would never have chosen steak for brunch but will now! Definitely on our list of p!aces to return to on our next visit

We found this little cafe after a Knicks game. We didn’t want to eat close to the stadion as we wanted to have more ambiance. This cafe was warm, trendy and lively. Our waiter served us well and was very friendly. The food was so so. It was late (10.30 pm) and we’re hungry. We ordered a burger (not the best - but ok) and a filet mignon. Which absolutely was NOT a filet mignon. It was a steak tartare (raw meat) and that was kind of a disappointment for us. Dishes are served differently in every country, but a steak tartare is a steak tartare - not a filet (baked) mignon. Anyway, the waiter gave us an extra wine to ease our disappointment - which worked for us.

Authentic swiss food (had veal sausage with roesti and burnt cream with meringue for dessert) and nice decoration with funny details.

The Christmas lights and German pastiche make for an eclectic, warm atmosphere. Superb drinks. Eat outside and people watch, or write the next great American beat poetry.

Visited this place because of the "must" visit review in a recent issue of In-Style magazine. The menu selection was underwhelming, and dishes ridiculously overpriced, but we were hungry and decided to tough it out. The food was fine, nothing special, and portions were small. Music was too loud, which forced customers to talk loudly. If this is a "gratuity free," restaurant, why did the bill have a section on it to place a tip. Probably adequate for trust fund twenty 20 somethings.

I would of never chosen to eat at Cafe Select as a by-passer. We met my son and his girlfriend here and I am so glad they chose this place. It was such a wonderful evening from beginning to end. I think we had the best seat in the house, which enhanced everything twice-fold. What we ordered was wonderful. I've been to Switzerland and this food was as good as any great meal we had there. It brought back fond memories. It is pricey but the food tasted so good it was worth every bite. The staff is friendly and over-worked but still pleasant and sometimes with an odd sense of humor. I will definitely come back over and over again.

Everything on the menu sounded great but the Hanger Steak was a must. It was prepared perfectly. Very cute spot in SOHO and the food will have you coming back.

Great food, great place. Perfect for a weekend brunch. I'll be coming back to try the fondue. I highly recommend it.

We went here hoping to get some fondue, but unfortunately the season had ended which was probably for the better considering it ended up being 80+ degrees that day! Luckily, we had a reservation in the back room (make sure to bring cash as its cash only) and the food was amazing. Some of the best oysters I've ever had and if you like German/Swiss food, this is a great place to find it. Would definitely go back.

Cafe Select has become a very hip venue in Soho and has the attitude to go with it. The place tries to be authentically Swiss and actually is. They serve very good röshti and späzli. You can also order Ovomaltine here, Switzetlands renowned chocolate drink. If you can handle the major trendy attitude then you will enjoy real Swiss food in NYC. If not, go across to La Esquina. Another Soho institution.

Pass. I love an old bistro. I’m cool with stained and tan menus but that’s where the authenticity stopped. I had the mussels and lobster bisque. Mussels were not sent fresh to table and lobster was over cooked. In a pinch, still an alright place for drinks and a bite - but I wouldn’t seek out.

We went there for lunch today... Saturday at 2pm. Got a table straight away. They have a nice cocktail menu and our drinks order arrived quite timely. It was not the case for our food for which we waited 35mn for a steak and poached eggs and a croque Monsieur. The food made up for the wait however. Being European, it was nice to taste the cheese in the croque Mr. As far as the atmosphere goes. If you re looking for the hip place to go and have a snack ... Great! If you re looking for a little bit of personal space, go somewhere else!

My second time here. First time things were ok, as we only had a salad and wine, sitting outdoors, all was good. This time we sat at the bar and had dinner. I was completely unimpressed and am unlikely to return. First, we had $320 worth of drinks and food, for two people. That's huge. However, the bartender treated us almost with annoyance when we asked for something and was obssessed with 2 girls who sat for about 4 hours and spent $18 each. The fawning over them was embarassing. We started with Rosti, which was ok, then oysters, also ok. Next was a Duck Magret with mushrooms which was over-cooked and had far too much mushrooms with toast that was rock hard. We returned it half eaten. The bartender didn't say a single word. Any place of class would have asked "Was something wrong?". Next was veal which was ok, but uninspiring. Somewhat tasteless, albeit, not bad. The only positive I can say is the envirnment is good, with young people, lots of French speakers, and a nice vibe. But if you are going to eat, go next door to the Osteria, where food is much better, and the bar service 10x more friendly and concientious. My overall feeling for the night was they didn't care about us and didn't care about whether the food was good or bad.

Visited for weekend brunch as not much else is open in the area. Pleasant bistro atmosphere, but thoroughly average food not much different from a decent diner. Service somewhat inattentive (server tended not to glance at tables.) Doubt if I would return.

Walked in after a concert with my husband and was absolutely blown away by the super juicy roasted chicken w/ spinach. The mushroom toast w/ poached duck egg was fantastic too! Would definitely go back!

. We got there about half nine and they had only just opened, I think if we had of got there an hour or so later, we wouldn’t have been able to get a table! (there was six of us) The food was fabulous, I had the Rosti Norwegian – Smoked salmon and fresh herb sour cream served over a rosti. I also had a coffee and we had three Bloody Marys between six of us. Fantastic food at an excellent price!

A good located café in soho. The food and coffee was delicious, unfortunaly the service was slow and messy.

My husband and I went to their apres-ski fondu chalet that is the back of the restaurant. They walk you through the kitchen to this small room with a bar and a few tables, ski decor and disco lights. It was great. We had amazing fondue and drinks. Highly recommend for a holiday dinner. You need to make sure you make reservations specifically for the back and note that that part of the restaurant is cash only!

Superb find! A great little bar with a great selection of wine and beer. Subtle Swiss theme and gorgeous fairy lights over the ceiling. Cute little tables and friendly service. Went here for a pre-dinner drink. Highly recommended.

The restaurant is really nice, even if tables are a bit small. I would recommend to book as it's often crowded. I tried a rosti with a sausage but it was not so good because was burnt. Prices are consistent with NYC standard, but I found out they charged me a higher tip

We just had a stop for break but looking at the food we had a light meal and discovered a good cuisine with a Swiss accent. If you are around try it and you will be not disappointed.

Really nice place for relaxing. Nice music. Our food and drink was quite superb. Excellent service too.

A friendly and welcoming atmosphere, combined with excellent food and attentive service. Just a little bit noisy... One of my favourite restaurants in NYC

Visited randomly with family and for the money we had an outstanding meal: food genuinely tasty, salads well dressed, reasonably healthy menu. Service friendly. Ambience quite trendy European (kept expecting them to play Bauhaus). Easiest five stars i have given this trip

Visited on a Friday morning around 9am and we were seated straight away as only a couple of other people there. Service was friendly and efficient. Fried eggs over easy on a rosti with bacon was delicious, also the homemade granola. Nice setting, would definitely recommend.

We too went here because Jack's Wife Frieda was too crowded. We had a whole passel of luggage because we were meeting our daughter by her office for lunch before we Ubered to Newark. They were accommodating about our luggage. Some of us had breakfast items, others had lunch. Split pea soup was delicious. The food was fresh, appetizing to look at and most importantly, yummy. Our daughter was happy to find a nice lunch place near her office that won't break the bank and she plans to frequent Cafe Select. Liked the decor and feel to the place as well.

Tired and cranky from barreling through tourist crowds in my old 'hood while running errands, Cafe Select looked like it might be annoyingly hip. It wasn't; it's simply good if you decide to fit in. Get beyond the attitude some patrons wish they could project. The staff is genuine and helpful if you want to be comfortably left alone. The barman on a midday Wednesday smiled at my funky mood, was professional, sent me off girded to deal with the hordes again. Don't go... I like it the way it is.

While staying in Soho we went several times and had delicious plates with great sweet and friendly service. I remember perfectly poached eggs on a lunch/brunch dish. The oysters and mignonette sauce, salades and meat plates are all very tasty --- fresh and well executed. We kept being drawn back by the combined delicious food, fun locale and really awesome servers and staff.

Dined here - a group of four. Table was waiting when we arrived. The staff were attentive but not obsequious. Cocktails were fun and delicious. The Zurich veal was the best I have ever had and all food around the table looked yummy. A great spot for a local dinner but also worth travelling for!!!

I had a lunch here with a colleague while on business in NYC and the truffle burger was amazing! Try having it with a salad as the salad dressing is fantastic!

Dinner with partner and friends we have t seen for some time. Though ai dont like cheese fondue, all others enjoyed it A lot. Service friendly and Quick. But.... The sound level is Incredible. I couldnt understand what was said at our table. So. I made this review and left....

This cafe is a nice place to pop into for lunch if you’re out in Soho. The service is friendly and the food is consistently good. My mom and I shared two sandwiches, the turkey and the mozzarella & prosciutto. Both were delicious in their own way. Our only gripe was the insanely high price for iced tea, $4 for a tiny glass mostly filled of ice... and they charge for each refill. That felt like we were getting ripped off and left us annoyed. Other than that, a great lunch.

Went for lunch and had an excellent experience. Delicious kale salad and a wonderful schnitzel. But, the thing you must get here is the spatzle which is so wonderful you don't want to share. Fun atmosphere, good service.

i could just have the zucchini chips and a glass of wine and be completely satisfied. They are delicious! I did have the linguini and clams and they were also very good but the zucchini chips are the best! Always busy. Fun night!

The food is good, a mix between some mediterranean, French and Swiss. Yummy salads, fries. Drinks are also good and they have a second bar in the back.

Trendy Swiss spot for brunch in Soho.Nice decor. We had excellent service ,great food.Everything on the menu looks good.Opted for the Brunch menu,Norwegian salmon and Eggs Benedict, delicious.Reasonable price. Will be back.

Nice place for lunch while you are in the area. both atmosphere and food. very good soups and salads

Liked the vibe, but the salad made a memory! It was so perfectly dressed and fresh! They were out of schnitzel that day, but the delicious side salad that came with my sandwich more than made up for it!!!! Really it's a month later and I am still thinking, "Wow that salad was good!"

I had too much to drink and probably would have enjoyed the food more but still managed to eat half of my meal. My wife loved the brunch and even while incredibly hungover, I still enjoyed it. The Swiss hash browns are really good.

Very cute decor and friendly staff. Rolex clock is a nice touch to the Swiss theme. Food was delicious and very reasonably priced. Would definitely recommend and return when in NYC.

We dined at Apres Ski in the back room of restaurant. Had a great bartender, decent food was a bit pricey for what it was but nice night.

I'm a sub par cook, but my own breakfasts beat the overpriced and sparse servings being dished out at Cafe Select. This came highly recommended to us by a friend... so I understand that some people might love it here. The only thing I can imagine a person liking about this place would be its high class vibe. But to me it only seemed pretentious, which was unjustified by the disappointing quality of the food itself.

This review is for the Apres Ski Fondue Chalet, in the back of Cafe Select. I had booked a table online and we enjoyed the most delicious Raclette at the chalet. The space is very small but very cozy, it really had the feeling of a Swiss chalet, decorated with old skiing gear and wooden sleds. A disco ball hanging from the ceiling gave it a fun touch. Our waitress was very friendly and efficient, and the Raclette, as already mentioned, was incredibly tasty. We washed it down with "Ski Wasser", one of the many cocktails offered on the menu, but they also have wine and beer. The music was a bit loud, but we nonetheless loved it and plan to go back! Keep in mind that it's CASH ONLY!

We went there twice within a weeks time on our visit to NYC. Both times it was crowded, but the service was good. The first time we were shoved into a corner table with not much of a view, but we had excellent food and attentive service. The corner was actually quieter for conversing. I had Branzino...EXCELLENT! My daughter had risotto. Make sure you order their zucchini chips. We had them both times and the quality was great both times. They have a excellent wine list. I hope to go back there soon.

Had a pretty uncomfortable interaction with the host that set a sour tone for my lunch. I felt like me being there was a huge inconvenience for them. That being said, once I sat, I really enjoyed the food! Cozy atmosphere and they have a nice menu and drinks, I might come back another time and write the host off as a fluke.

We were in town for the Van Morrison show the following night; had Saturday to kill, but the weather was terrible; rain from Hurricane Mathew. We roamed to Soho from the meatpacking district and took a stab at Cafe Select - There was not a line among the rain and other cafes with lines. Shame on those people. The entire scene was fantastic; no line; excellent service; great seats by the front window, and incredible food!!!!! Gene had the Halloumi cheese plate; and Fannie Flagg had the incredible cheese sandwich. Best kept secret in NYC! Gene

Just what we wanted! Diner style, but more modern, spot that does amazing breakfasts! We both had eggs on Rosti with a side of bacon and both loved it! $36 for breakfast for two... Pricey, but worth it.

Ended up here after we decided that the line at Jack's Wife Freda was too long for our stomachs to handle, and I was pleasantly surprised. The menu, drinks, and ambiance weren't anything truly spectacular, but I loved the concept of gratuity free. I miss the days of living abroad where the price listed on the menu is exactly what you pay. The gazpacho was average, as was the green salad, but the avocado toast was top notch.

Having lived in Switzerland, I can say that there are some very Swiss elements and some not so Swiss elements to this restaurant. They have Rivella, serve Rösti, Birchermuesli and Raclette, and have Swiss magazines around (however I have never Raclette at breakfast in Switzerland!). It is mixed with the hipster farm-to-table type cuisine with avocados and kale added to the menu in places I wouldn't expect for the Swiss. It was all delicious, and I couldn't have enjoyed it more, however, it is not exactly what I would expect at a Swiss breakfast restaurant (although I personally preferred it). Really good!

Great little cafe, with excellent food. Breakfast served all day. The rosti-Norwegian was outstanding. Service was good. Prices steep, but not unreasonable.

I have eaten here a number of times over the past 2 years, sometimes with friends, sometimes just for snacks, and sometimes for lunch or dinner, and the food and service have always been good. I do not drink alcohol, and so I cannot comment on the bar scene here, nor on the quality of their drinks! However, I have at times accompanied friends here who do drink, and they always seemed to like their mixed drinks.

After hours shopping found this place for lunch.Really busy but were seated fairly quickly.Waitress seemed to be working alone but soon came to our table.I had a Croque Monsieur which was pretty average but my Husband and friends went for the Lobster Club Sandwich which they said was the best they had ever had!Only disappointment was the beer,we asked for a pint or large beer and it came in a small glass never worth the $8 it cost.....

Coming from Times Square to this bar to discover the “speak easy” behind the kitchen, but even if you are going directly behind the kitchen, if you are not friends with the waitress you cannot go ... so you will be disappointed, you better go to the bar called “home sweet home” on Chrystie Street.
A real find!
We enjoyed a great dinner on Christmas Day. Great food, steak and fondue. Music was a mix of Brasil, Afro-Cuban and US 1950s. Set so you could chat but covered your neighbors. This spot is now our favorite in the neighborhood. Has a curtained nook if you wish to be descrete. Menu is wide ranging: fish, fondue, steak, schnitzel, salads. Try it.
