We went to Caravaggio because it was close to the hotel we were staying at. The menu looked good online. What an amazing treat. We were hoping for good and we got excellent. The zucchini blossoms were a great way to start. The bread basket, with three different whipped butters? Just amazing. Be careful not to fill up on it! The risotto special, with black truffle was perfectly cooked, delicious and enough to feed two people! The duck was crisp and having the seared foie gras on the plate was just such a treat. Save room for the tiramisu. Wow. It was light, and creamy and delicious. Overall? Highly recommend.

First of all, if you are looking for a restaurant with any atmosphere this is not the place for you. We frankly found the décor rather strange. The lighting was like we were in a cafeteria. The service was overly pretentious. For goodness sake don’t rattle off twenty “ daily specials” and ask me to remember them! Also, don’t try to sell me a half bottle of wine from a limited selection instead of letting me see the wine list. And when I do ask for the wine list, please don’t roll your eyes! And is it too much to expect the servers to smile? The whole experience was not the least bit welcoming. Now there was some good things about our meals. The salad was the freshest one I have ever eaten….it tasted like they had just picked the ingredients from a garden. Our pasta dishes were just ok. I know that I must be in the minority in not really enjoying this restaurant because it was busy and got great reviews. But for the price of our meal I expected more. At least to feel like I was welcome.

Good Italian food. We shares a tomato mozzarella salad ne two of us had fish and one pasta. All were delicious, the portions are quite big so sharing is a better option.

Exaggeratedly expensive for the food they offer, 3 people 1000€. Not worth it!!! It's not worth the experience. Normal food, dishes of a correct elaboration without standing out.

We had dinner plans at another location in the city, but I found this gem during some research. The review were really good and the pictures looked just as good. From the moment we walked in to the moment we left, we could not have been more happy. There were so many people working there to make sure we had everything we needed. Truly amazing these days to have such great service. I cannot go into detail about the food as we tried so many different things, not on the menu, because there isn't enough time. All I can say is that if you want authentic cuisine, you better make the trip.

My husband and I had dinner there on Saturday, November 1. I ordered the salmon, which had a much stronger odor than usual for that type of fish. I didn’t want to disrespect the chef by sending the dish back, but unfortunately, I ended up with food poisoning and was sick the entire weekend. Today is Monday, and I’m still recovering. I called the restaurant at 5:39 p.m. to inform them, but no one answered the phone during business hours.

I went there for lunch with 2 friends recently. I had watermelon soup, which had no watermelon flavor to it at all... more like gazpacho. I also had the tuna tartar, which was probably the worst one I have ever had. It was soaked in the vinaigrette dressing and it was hard to taste the tuna. One friend had a veal dish which she thought was just OK. The other friend liked his soft shell crab and watermelon salad. A half-bottle of wine was $70 and the bill for that, the soup, 3 appetizers, and one entree as $300 with tax and tip... not worth it.

This upper east side neighborhood restaurant is stylish, smart and contemporary. The staff is smartly attired. But this place is not just about style. The food is excellent. The service is excellent. This is dining at its finest. We loved the Bronzino, the Mediterranean sea bass. It was prepared expertly in sea salt. Our only complaint - and it is a very small one - is that the steamed vegetables that accompanied the Bronzino did not do justice to the fish. The fish was a real treat. The Tiramisu was to die for. The wine and drinks were all perfect. It is rare when everything in the restaurant borders on perfection. There are no bad tables in the dining room but you need a reservation.

Amazing place to sight see billionaires from New York! We even saw Louis Bofferding there! Amazing to see one of New York richest billionaires eating there The real Louis Bofferding!

So, we received a prompt from the restaurant for a review, but six months after we were there. Which I admit is a bit odd, but it actually works. Why? Well because, six months later we're still thinking of our evening, the exceptional service, and beautifully plated meal. Initially, the restaurant was on a short list provided to us by our hotel and was selected due to it's art collection for end of a day spent in area museums and galleries. Caravaggio exceeded expectations. The tiramisu was notable, but so was the evening. We left Caravaggio with an exceptional dining experience where everything found it's place, the service was attentive enough, but like the flavours of the food, nothing was overstated or distracting. Looking for another opportunity to get to NYC and make more memories.

Beautiful place!! Service, food and ambiance was unbelievable . Everyone is so knowledgeable and super nice. Highly recommended.

Very UES. If you’re looking for an authentic Italian dinner, don’t go there. But if you’re looking for a sophisticated, elegant and cozy dinner, this is a great place to go. Be ready to spend at least $500 for dinner with a medium priced bottle of wine and no dessert. We love it.

We fortunately scored a last minute table in the bar area last night. We’re Italian and have literally eaten Italian food all over the world besides cooking some very good stuff at home. This was an excellent dining experience. Our waiter was professional, knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. Very often in Italian restaurants you get attitude but not from him. My wife wanted a beet salad and spaghetti with clams in a red sauce. The menu offered it in white sauce. Very often this request is answered with impossible. His response was no problem. I wanted a half order of a pasta as my appetizer but when I told him I was ordering veal Milanese he suggested that was a large entree and I might be better off with a smaller appetizer. I chose the burrata and prosciutto. We are really into wine and they have an unparalleled wine selection. The book was huge. When eating in Italian restaurants we drink Italian wine. That reduced the size of the book. We exclusively drink red wine and I decided it would be a Barolo and they had 5 pages with various vintages. I finally selected a wonderful 2009 which was stored at a perfect temperature and was delicious. My wife enjoyed her beet salad. The burrata and prosciutto was excellent. Her spaghetti and clams came in a huge bowl filled with clams. I instantly knew she would never finish it. She did eat all the clams and some spaghetti which she said was cooked perfectly. My veal Milanese took up the entire plate. It had a generous portion of black truffles. It was absolutely delicious. I was so glad I didn’t order the pasta appetizer and thanked our server. I’m a big eater but just couldn’t finish it leaving just a little on the plate. I was totally done with dinner. The server came and asked about desert. I was set to say no until he said they had a chocolate soufflé. That is probably my favorite dessert and one rarely made in an Italian restaurant so of course I ordered it. It came out and was a perfect dark chocolate soufflé absolutely delicious! My wife hates chocolate so she had lemoncello. Excellent food, wonderful wine and great service all comes at a cost especially in New York City. Don’t go out to a nice restaurant eat and drink then complain about the cost just enjoy it. This is a wonderful restaurant where you will have an excellent dining experience.

Stay away. They bartender charges up more expensive drinks and then the manager backs her up. We paid and left a nice cash gratuity before realizing we were charged $15 more for each (!) drink. Called the next day and asked the manager to refund the difference. Never saw the refund. Called again and he just hung up. Stay away and spend your money somewhere else.

We happened to stop in on a quiet Sunday night and we were treated to an authentic, friendly and delicious experience! The whole staff went out of their way and did not miss a trick. We will definitely return!

Every visit to Manhattan [8-10 times per annum] always means either a long luncheon or dinner at Caravaggio. Always...

Superb Osso Bucco very flavorful. Spaghetti carbonara with the crispy bacon one of the best we have had. Beef Carpaccio melts in your mouth the cafe creme dessert hits the spot…. Overall excellent meal and generous portions and would highly recommend.

Caravaggio is a lovely restaurant serving very well made cocktails and a high end menu of Italian food. The premises are white table cloth elegant and the overall size of the restaurant seems just right, neither huge nor tiny. Service is superb. The printed menu is a good size and the waiter then recites a huge number of specials and additions. The long list of specials with unknown prices is the only thing that I would fault at this restaurant. While prices for our entrees seemed fair considering the quality we found that we ordered what turned out to be an appetizer which cost as much as the dinners.

So ridiculously overpriced. I understand it is NYC but $40 for a couple of radicchio leaves. And it was just all right. It better knock my socks off for that price. So many good restaurants in NYC. Do not waste your time or money here.

Wow! I have walked by this place many times. I wish I had starting visiting years ago! We stopped on a whim for lunch, and were blown away by the food and the service. Every dish "sung"-not a dud in the bunch. The massive list of daily specials ( committed to memory by our excellent server) reflected Spring at its finest. We can't wait to return.

Great choice for fine Italian cooking, in a beautiful neighborhood. Very elegant and refined preparations with first rate ingredients. Impressive wine list attended by knowledgeable staff. Definitely, a top notch restaurant

Excellent food and service. Nice decor. Be advised this is a very upscale Upper East Side restaurant, populated by wealthy Upper East Side clientele. It was not our scene at all.

Good eats, chill vibes, and the staff is super friendly. It's my go-to for a satisfying and relaxed meal. Can't wait to savor more bites there!

Super classy Italian restaurant with fantastic cuisine. We enjoyed oysters, artichokes, grilled scampi and branzatto made from salt dough. Everything was delicious and well prepared. Unfortunately, the artichokes and oysters, both ordered by the same person, were served at the same time. That really doesn't fit. The service was attentive but disinterested. You could clearly tell who was a regular and who wasn't.

This is my happy place. From the minute I enter the restaurant my senses are attached. The visual artwork is gorgeous, the warm welcome environment and greeting from each and every team member makes me feel as though I’m welcomed back after a long stay away. Then let’s talk about the food - the food is a genius creation that touches senses that you don’t even know you’ve had. from visual to your tastebuds to the soothing savory experience when it hits your belly. I cant say enough I absolutely love chef Giuseppe love, Caravaggio . love Nicolina. If there were more stars, I will give them each and everyone.

A first class restaurant that never fails. Although it is pricey, contrary to what happens in other restaurants, you certainly get your money’s worth! A sure thing!

Loved the unusual veal milanese (prosciutto and fontina cheese), clams with linguini and summer veggies, fried artichoke hearts. The 2 , admittedly large, asparagus spears with morel mushrooms were delicious, but as in the title, a breathtaking $50 that we didn't feel they justified price wise. Still, white asparagus is our thing, so we got it. Don't be afraid to ask for prices so you're not surprised. There is so much not on the menu and the wine list is a tome. The surroundings are very attractive and the service was wonderful. Still, at these prices, $450 for 2, including one of the best espresso martinis I've ever had and a very good Italian margarita (with limencello) and a <$100 half bottle of wine, we will not be going more than once a year.

We happened upon this restaurant on a surprisingly warm November weekend for lunch. We did not realize reservations for lunch in many midtown Manhattan places were a must. We didn’t get to eat outside, but enjoyed being inside watching the interactions of staff and customers. The specials were appealing…I chose fettuccine with duck ragu and my wife chose a veal ragu. We also had an octopus appetizer. The attention to detail was quite impressive and the wait staff was attentive. We came away satiated and happy with the overall experience. Pricey for lunch, but that’s what one expects in NYC.

Stay away!! The waiter was rude as well as the manager and the food was okay but no more that that. I ate in better italian resturants
A two hour luxury escape
My wife and I ate at Caravaggio last night in their outside tent. The quality of the food and service reminded me of what you might get at the very best resorts (Aman, Belmonde) so it felt like a two hour luxury vacation. It's expensive, but worth it when you can be transported like that.
