We went here on our first night in NYC as it was close to our hotel and looked busy. We had the most fabulous Italian meal which is very traditionally Italian - meaning the plates are sharing. We ordered Rigatoni with Italian sausage & broccoli with a white wine and garlic sauce, it was so good I could’ve drank the sauce off the plate. It was such a fantastic meal and would highly recommend!

They were slammed with orders coming in from all directions, yet their minimal staff was professional, positive and friendly throughout. Although the orders were running late because of the unexpected volume and the shortage of staff, the kitchen still turned out its typical delicious dishes, as fast as it could. Some of us had a harder time with the wait than others, but I'm writing this review to thank Carmine's and the whole staff for being open. Today was not typical, but nothing is right now. Really appreciate this local favorite keeping its doors open to serve the neighborhood. Let's remember to be kind to one another and grateful for so much of what we do have.

Great family Italian restaurant in the upper West side. Family sized platters of superbly cooked food, using the best ingredients. The cold appetiser plate is huge, and we ended up with a doggy bag to eat the rest the next day! And the mains are equally generous. The staff are great, and service is quick. The other Carmine's near Times Square, is more of a tourist destination, but this one is mostly frequented by locals. Great atmosphere, with a very eclectic choice of decorations and photos. If you are staying downtown, take a visit into the more residential area of Manhattan, it's worth it.

We made our reservation earlier that day. As it was my birthday and we decided to go there on this rainy spring evening. Best choice ever the food was amazing and our server made our evening. Can't wait to go back.

I believe people go to restaurants for quality of food and service. It was my birthday and waiter suggested Tiramisu for dessert. I was not supposed to be charged for it and none of us at the table liked it. It was too creamy and was not done right (mascarpone cheese was not used.). The manager came over (Kevin) was not polite and wanted me to pay for it. I tried to explain but he didn't let me talk much and said am sorry you ate half of it and have to pay for it. All of us at the table were trying to remove the heavy cream icing on top and get to the lady fingers. Kevin did a great job by politely being rude and killing the gathering. The waiter and the atmosphere were good, but the bitter taste of the rude manager stayed with me and I will never go back.

We were in NYC the night before a ban on indoor dining took effect and decided to make a reservation at our favorite family style restaurant, Carmine’s. As expected, the food was terrific and the meatballs were to die for. The service was on point and a manager ( sorry, can’t remember her name) went above and beyond when she delivered us an order of french fries ( not on their menu) to satisfy our three year old daughter. We hope that the staff of Carmine’s has a very happy holiday season and we look forward to visiting again when the pandemic is over.

Such a great experience. The food is plentiful and fantastic. We brought home a ton of leftovers even after we ate until we were all full. Everything was fresh, hot and delicious. Would definitely recommend

Waiter goes by memory, forgets alot. Lots of steps to get into dining room. Very loud can't hear to talk.

Carmines is a great and authentic Italian restaurant with very nice food. The service is really well and all the team is an example of education and attention. The only thing that is something Carmines does not change is the possibility of having 1/2 portions of food. The plates are too big and it does not allow you to taste all the good things that the menu can offer you.

One portion is for 3/4 people (really), and the quality of the food is espectacular. The staff is very very nice. Don’t miss it if you are in NY!!!

I ordered the veal saltimbocca. The veal was not hot and the sauce too salty. The tiramisu had way too much cream and the coffee was bitter. Very disappointing.

GREAT FOOD! HORRIBLE customer service from Danielle! the bartender was AMAZING adrian the busboy was amazing, he made us feel welcome. Danielle never checked on us and when we complained to BILL (The manager) he justified her behavior that it was crowded even though she was very attentive to a table 4 feet from us

I remember when this place was still respectable but it really has gone down the hill. Iceberg lettuce, cheap ingredients, and lousy severs who have attitudes. I can find 100 other better Italian restaurants within a 5-mile radius if this corporate chain that doesn’t value its customers anymore nor the standard which they were once known for.

It’s a beautiful Italian place in the heart of Manhattan, very good atmosphere, the plates are huge and very dificulto to finish. Don’t go there without reservations.

Here is what We ordered : Calamari --too many of them for three people/[portion too large. The Taste was was average, nothing special given the high cost. Lasagna ---huge portion, way too much food for three persons ! The taste was fair=, It tasted more like a Frozen Dinner Entree. Nothing special despite despite the very special HIGH PRICE. Spaghetti with red sauce and clams. Again a HUGE portion. The taste was average, nothing memorable except the cost which was too high---especially for mediorce pasta. The dining roo, was super loud and quite dark. We had a good server despite the below average food. We would like a refund of at least$90.00,half of outr Total Bill

Our bus tour came here as part of our 2-day NYC trip. It was a great time for the group, perfect to sit around a large table to get to know people in our travel group. We had a prearranged menu that included: Garlic Bread, Fried Zucchini, Rigatoni Bolognese, Cheese Manicotti, Chicken Saltimbocca, Cheesecake, Water, Soda, Coffee, and Iced Tea. The food was very good. Carmine's has a good reputation and we weren't disappointed. The service was excellent and everyone was professional. I think it's worth a visit for a party or outing with friends to visit a reputable NYC restaurant.

Three of us enjoyed the Carmine’s House Salad and Steak Contadina and there were enough leftovers for another meal the next day. Joe, our server, was excellent; friendly, and attentive. If you want good value and great food, Carmine’s is the place to go.

The Best Italian Food in all of New York!! If you have only one option for lunch or dinner in New York City, make it Carmine's. Linguine with Clam Sauce is to die for. Caesar Salad is the best and the stuffed mushrooms were incredible. Family style serving portions fed all four of us very well. You are treated like family by the staff (kudos to our waiter Hugo) and even diners at adjacent tables were very friendly to the point one gentleman wanted to by our table drinks. I'm 65 years old and I have eaten at Restaurants all over the World. Nothing compares to Carmine's for Italian food. You gotta try it.

Carmine's said they'd love for me to share my review on Trip Advisor, so here it is: I lived in NYC when Carmine's first opened in 1990 and thoroughly enjoyed coming in person with friends, and ordering to go, many many times over your first decade. I had ordered to-go a few times since then and each consecutive order was less enjoyable than the next, and each time the interactions with your staff were less and less professional. Your staff has become rude and surely. You offer ABSOLUTELY NO EFFECTIVE TELEPHONE SUPPORT, and on this in-person visit, our waitress was abrupt, and also inefficient, not putting or order in correctly, dropping a main of your Special Chicken dish, and when we asked where it was she said WE had changed our order, which w had not, and did not hav the graciousness to own her error. Then she said it would take 20 minutes or more to get it to the table- when I am sure ther probably were a number sitting available in the moment. You have become a victim of your own "success." Although I would not call it "success<" when you treat guests so unprofessionally and so rudely. On tope of this, the portion of lasagna seems to me to have gotten considerably smaller, and your coffee was terrible- OH, and making me and my friend wait and not adding us to the active live seating line so we could sit and rest, and order coffee and the first course, while or friend parked their car- w had just walked up from 54th street and 6th, where cold and exhausted- just an INHOSPITABLE and UNPROFESSIONAL choice, and as it worked out, the time w hd to wait AFTER he arrived to b seated was longer than the time between when we asked to be seated and he showed up. The food we were served was good- but the evening having dinner at Carmine's, not so much. Finally, your tables are too small to gracefully accommodate people and family style serving plates- you ar also victim's of your own GREED.

We had reservations and were kept waiting for over 45 minutes to be seated. The staff was friendly and gracious

Where to start? We've been going to Carmine's since my children were young (they're now in their 20s and 30s). It's been our comfort food, and our go to place for birthdays for more than two decades. No more!! To be succinct, the restaurant is a shadow of its former self and is purely just a "tourist trap" in every sense of the word. Most significantly, the food is no longer the same quality (a "green salad" consists of iceberg lettuce and tomatoes), no grilled vegetable dishes (a staple of the former menu), few options with regard to preparation of other dishes, almost every dish is now breaded or fried, and even their famous family portions no longer feed four people (with room to spare for the next day's dinner). We've given them multiple opportunities to fix with constructive criticism left with management. At this point, we've given up. They've become corporate and their response to any suggestion is that the menu changes have been made for cost-effectiveness reasons (though that's certainly not represented in their prices). In short, don't waste your time if you're thinking about finding the same restaurant from even a decade ago. And the same holds true for other locations as we've visited multiple sites at different cities. I won't even bother wasting my time in reviewing the service since, in truth, I would be willing to bear a bit of average service for my good old carmine food. That's now a bygone era, I guess never to return. Well....we still have the memories.

Carmine's is a great place for special occasion and first dates and it has been a staple in my family for years. It was nice to see that they added a new restaurant for barbecue. Can't wait to come back and try it! This day in particular we went for a birthday dinner

Maybe they used to be good, but I was disappointed. Starting with the service: We arrived 5 minutes past our reservation time. Wife's cousin was already there. As we were led to our table we were told "I was just about to give your table away" and not in a joking way. As soon as we were seated the maitre'd advised us that there was a 90 minute time limit at the table. Great way to start a meal! I responded that it depends on the service. About the food: The baked clams were mushy and overly salted. Caesar salad was good. We ordered meatballs and angel hair pasta. The food arrived warm, not hot and was served by some guy in a winter coat and knit cap. I suspect that our food was just waiting on a shelf without a heat lamp for a while. The sauce was bland. The meatballs had a good consistency, but very little flavor. The pasta was cooked properly, at least. Perfectly al-dente. Prices were reasonable for the serving size. Everything was family and style and the portions were generous. With a few tweaks this place could be great.

Carmine's is a family style restaurant. They estimate their servings are for 2-4 people. They do not exaggerate. One serving can easily support 4 adults. Do not over-order. The food is OK. The service is OK. Unfortunately, the noise is deafening inside and almost as bad if you eat outside, where you must contend with homeless people asking for money while you eat. Prices are reasonable for New York. You will need reservations, and they will not seat you until your entire party arrives. Lots of little mistakes, like not providing spoons for dishing out the food in the family style dishes, and all of the wine glasses had to be sent back to be re-washed.

Everything was amazing! Each course outshined the last. From the anti-pasta, stuffed mushrooms, salmon, assorted breads, shrimp, pastas, sausage, chicken marsala and dessert! A particular thank you to our excellent wait staff, especially Rebert, for such attentive service cheerfully received and to Solangie for her exquisite talents of making the perfect cup of coffee for so many which leaves that lasting memory.. A good time was had by all 42 of our SIIR bus trip attendees. This is an annual event and we always look forward to our luncheon at Carmines before our Broadway show...This Year "Funny Girl." CARMINES!! You Never Disappoint!

The quality and taste of food was horrible. Carmines was my favorite Italian restaurant to go too and many different locations. After my last dining it will surely be my last.

We love Italian food!!!--just NOT at Carmine's on 90th Street and Broadway! We went there today for a birthday meal--my birthday. the food was so bad and awful tasting, I picked up the check, refusing to allow my host pay for the meal. We ordered the chicken special--the chicken was dry, as were the potatoes. I had specified that the meal come piping hot--when the food came there was no sight of steam, and the main lunch arrived medium cold as opposed to piping hot. The huge mixed green salad was priced at $27 for two of us! And the chicken special--the Chicken Romano--for two, amounted to $60. I did not eat the food--it was that tasteless and bland andunappetizing. How do you ruin Italian food?! Except this place did not have the feel or taste of Italian but the feel and taste of a rip-off. Waste of time and of good money. Take a hike to the nearest exit before they seat you at this very disappointing dive. The restaurant even looks like a dive on the inside. Awful. Mickey Michaels NYCRC@AOL.COM

Grab your appetite, your friends and family, and race to enjoy the wonder of Carmine's. Whether it is your first time (it surely will not be your last), or of the lucky ones to enjoy this wonderous meal before - you must get that reservation and SAVOR! If you ate outside before when the inside was not open - fear not - the food is back to full normal and may even be a tad better. SO GO and make your tummy happy!

OMGOODNESS!!!!! I mean NYC has good food but this place is over the top!! We took my daughter out for her birthday and let me tell you this was just perfect! The portions were over the top so pick a few favorites and stick with that. The calamari was the best I’ve ever had! The staff was wonderful, and the food was outstanding!

Food and service always good. I enjoy the old-style Italian food. The red sauce really does it for me. Be careful - because portion sizes are large (family style).

This spot is very busy. Good points are food is plentiful as it’s known for family style. Fresh ingredients, yes . The bad side is they won’t omit anything after asking if any allergies or food restrictions. We don’t eat pork and the server claims we couldn’t have that one pork dish removed from the hot antipasto dish which was very disappointing. Also our server pretty much ignored us after that and another server noticed and jumped in. Also the drinks are very watered down. We weren’t looking to get hammered but our margaritas were see through…

What a fabulous dinner! Turkey was cooked beautifully. A fabulous value! Sooo much food! Delivered on time to mid town! If I’m really lucky, I will not have to cook Thanksgiving next year and I can order from Carmines again!

Amazing food and amazing customer service. We ordered a lasagne and Caesar salad and certainly didn’t finish it as there was just SO MUCH. They give you a basket of bread to start which is amazing as well so you are certainly filled to the brim. I would recommend you don’t come with less than 3 people. The lasagne can feed 4!

The food is terrible, flavorless, institutional at best. We had the gnocci w pesto and dried out chicken breasts. The food was lcold with congealed oily essence of pesto pooled at the bottom. The gnocci was boxed at best and the Ceasar Salad- carton parmesan not fresh shaved, flavorless bottled dressing and giant pieces of lettuce not even cut up! This is a disgrace as the old Carmines used garlic and real recipes that were aromatic and wonderful. The only thing that smelled at Carmines outdoor dining were the homeless people terrorizing guests from the sidewalk.!

We went for lunch on Sunday and although it says on their menu that the lunch menu is available DAILY - we were told at 1pm that it was not available on weekends. We were told we had to order the dinner size entrees. This was misleading when we made the reservations and if we had know we would have picked Becco or one of the other 25+ Italian restaurants in the Times Square area. So instead of having a salad and pasta and my daughter having calamari and pasta we ended up just sharing 1 pasta dish! I would never go back again - other restaurants are much more accommodating.

I am writing this from a totally different perspective, as I now have to look at restaurants for their accessibility for the disabled! The food and service are excellent as always and I don’t want to gloss over that! However a hidden advantage is the simple access to the dining room via West 91 St. Thank you to whomever was able to obtain this as it makes a world of difference to a family whose life is totally upturned by suddenly becoming dependent on accessibility of all types of outside activities. Kudos

Went to this restarting after rave reviews from our hotel. Disappointed. Family style restraint that was way too much food for a party of 2. The Fly Me to the Moon Margarita is what saves this review. The pasta was OK. Ordered cheese garlic bread so we didn’t get offered a regular bread basket. Cheesecake was very dry. Service was very slow and atmosphere was very very noisy. Celebrating our anniversary and it was never acknowledged. Very disappointing.

Been heading over to Carmine's for family birthdays and graduations since 2006. Always been a staple of the UWS with a great ambiance and location, huge family size portions, and killer Italian dishes. We always loved the Bread Pudding, the Porterhouse Steak, and the spinach fettuccine, would highly recommend overall

Food was excellent, drinks were great and the service was excellent will definitely come back with family. Alex was attentive

Visited from UK. Food was amazing and staff were great. We returned twice on our trip and would 100% recommend to anyone visiting.

The service, atmosphere, and food were outstanding! Portions are HUGE. This was out 2nd visit and will definitely return!! A++++++

Michael and I have long been fans of the Times Square location but fancied a quieter dining experience for Independence Day weekend. This location hit all the right marks. The outdoor seating was spacious and comfortable, and the menu we've come to love didn't disappoint. Our server Tina was pleasant and professional. After excellently blended cocktails we began with a Caprese salad followed by the Spiedini Alla Romana and the classic lasagna. All were freshly prepared and delightfully seasoned with many leftovers for home. We couldn't resist an order of Virgil's famous smoked wings as well. Ours was an overall first-rate experience.

Chicken parmigiana cheese was not melted barely any sauce. The meal reminded me of my public school lunch when I was a kid. I’ve frequented Carmines for years. Not sure what happened. If you can’t produce a good chicken parmigiana that says a lot as being an Italian eatery. We won’t be back. Off to the Bronx. Enzo’s here we come!

Absolutely disappointed by the service in this restaurant. Made an online booking and travelled all the way to the restaurant only to be told booking was not valid. Staff could not have cared less. Maybe the food is really good but service is key. Too popular to care for potential customers. So very disappointed.

Worst cheesecake I"ve ever had. $20 and threw it away. It's New York. How can you screw up cheesecake?! The crust was some weird cakelike thing (not graham) that either had alcohol in it or was fermented and "off."

Service was aHORRIBLE. Waited forever for drinks. Order was incorrect. Asked for gluten free menu. Never provided. Was told calamari was gluten free which is obviously not tree. Got better service from the bus boy who I tipped as a courtesy. Food order was incorrect. Requested no bacon on carbonara and it came out with. By the time it came out correctly we were done. Elevated to a manager on duty. He asked what he could do. It was my daughter’s 17th birthday so aside from taking off the carbonara he said he would comp us a Titanic. This took an excessive amount of time to make. By the time we were wrapped up, my daughter wasn’t feeling well and we had a train to catch back to Philly. I promptly paid in cash not realizing the Titanic wasn’t comped as promised. The whole mean was a disaster. I called and spoke to Gabby that week and after back and forth spoke to the GM. After they bother promised follow up, I never heard from either. What terrible service and lack of issue resolution from 3 levels of leadership!!!

The food was amazing, drinks were good, service was phenomenal. Our waitress was the best I have ever had in my life. This waitress was new to Carmine’s and she made our day. She was prompt, friendly, knowledgeable, approachable, and had drinks before I even had to ask. She is an asset to your organization and you are very lucky to have her on your team. DONT EVER LET HER LEAVE! I just wish I could remember her name.

Once again Carmine's did not disappoint. They even have a few more yummy things on the menu! If you want to just have the best time, with the best food, make sure you make your reservation and start making some priceless memories!

Booked for 8.15pm, when we arrived we were told to wait, ended up waiting 25mins after booking time before being seated. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable. The dishes are huge, honestly don’t underestimate the portion sizes, can share a dish between multiple people. Food was tasty.

Nice Italian restaurant in times Square area. Two floor dining. Food was great, large portions, family style. Drinks good.

It seems that prices went up quality of food went down. The linguine with white clam sauce was toastless. Meat lasagna very salty. Chicken parmigiana- a slab of meat covered with not quite melted cheese. Bread was stale. After telling my English guest about this place, they were disappointed. In the past I likes carmines but now I wouldn't recommend it.

Had a reservation for 6pm last night, waited about 40 minutes by the door with no place to sit with my family. Approached host and asked for status on my table. She explained that it would be another 40 minutes. Why have a reservation system that doesn't work. Asked to speak to manager, manager tells me their is nothing he can do, and walked away. Horrible system, Horrible manager. Been a carmines 44st client for over 20 yrs, this is then end of my visits to carmines.

What a great vibe. Food is authentic Italian and delicious. Sarah who ran front end of restaurant when we visited is awesome, she keeps everything under complete control and very energetic person. Our waiter Claudio was excellent, and happy to help. Food is absolutely delicious

After reading the mixed reviews I was really hesitant to come here. We are so glad that we came to try for ourselves. The service from the time we walked in the door to the time we left was great! The food was good and the portions were plenty. We will definitely return.

Terrible service. We had to wait for our table more then half an hour, even though we mad reservations. And the food didn’t taste mutch.

Great spot for a group that likes to share. Portions are enormous & delicious. Great place to celebrate.

They gave us this leftover as a good tip for eating in NY, I found the food very greasy, as we ordered shrimp parmigiana and it was very oily.

Portions are huge , quality not so good, a bit too expensive . We are not coming back. We ordered the Capreze, how you can make it wrong in an Italian restaurant??? The pasta with Shrimps was… well, not really tasty ( again Italian is one of the best cuisines) , and Srimps in garlic sauce . So in general, for three dishes, a bottle of wine ( they brought the wrong one for $52), one dessert $230!!!! Not worth it !

My friend and I came in for drinks and ended up getting food because the waiter Chris R. Was amazing the service and overall attentiveness made the experience so great! Will always return

I went to Carmines with my friends tonight for dinner. We have not seen each other I over 2 years. This is our place and it’s nice to see it hasn’t changed. We had 5:30 reservations. The staff was polite and helpful. Tina was our waitress and was very attentive to our needs. She recommended the special - chicken with mozzarella over spinach in a lemon sauce with toasted potatoes. I was not disappointed. The food is family style and there was plenty! We also ordered penne alla vodka with shrimp, baked clamps a a house salad - delicious! We were able to sit and catch up without feeling that we needed to leave. It did get crowded by the time we left. We had 5.30 reservations. I would definitely recommend Carmines. I never had a bad meal and the staff has always been so polite.

Lovely atmosphere where people were having happy birthday sang etc. and so funny seeing kids as young as 8 eating a pasta dish was was nearly as big as them. The food portions are for 4 people so best to share! We had the calamari for starters and then the chicken Parmigiana, I wanted meat balls but glad I didn’t order them as I was stuffed the food was tasty and the complementary bread was delicious. Great beer choices also. Only down side is Salad is too expensive.

Had no clue this was a family style restaurant--it was myself, my daughter and my niece. The wait staff were super friendly and accommodating; the food was very, very good. I was incredibly surprised because usually family style restaurant food is just okay. They had decent gluten-free options which was nice; The Caesar salad dressing tasted homemade, and the bolognese sauce was excellent. Did we have a ton of leftovers? Yes! Not a bad thing when the food tastes that good. Really great, fun casual dinner that tasted delicious. Definitely would recommend for a group.

We went to Carmines based on friends recommendations during our visit to NYC. The visit far exceeded our expectations!! The whole staff was very welcoming and our waiter was incredible. The food was outstanding and plentiful. I can’t wait to return to NYC so I can have dinner again!

We had dinner with friends at Carmines on the Upper West Side in February. Carmines is an Italian restaurant that is ideally suited to letter groups. Their signature concept is dishes are served family style. Everything yo7 choose will serve about six people. The quality of the food is about the same as you would get at a neighborhood Italian restaurant that also serves pizza. The good is quite reasonably priced. Upon arrival, everyone needed to show proof of vaccination. I assume a negative Covid test would have been sufficient. They were thorough. The restaurant is on continuous party. Lots of tables with groups. Everyone is celebrating something. The wait staff break out into Happy Birthday quite often. The place is very loud. I think our group had reservations but we needed to wait quite awhile for a table to open up. The corridor leading past the bar and into the dining room was crowded too. Service is pretty efficient given the continuous flow of food orders coming out of the kitchen. We had a good time with our friends. Personally we like someplace that is quieter, but this was a friend’s choice for our get together. Carmine’s is legendary

I wish I could have given Carmine’s a higher rating, but the hospitality was disappointing. We were celebrating a special occasion—my sister’s accomplishment—which made the poor service even more disheartening. While the hostess was kind, greeted us warmly, and seated us promptly, things went downhill from there. We waited over 20 minutes without receiving water or being greeted by a waiter. Staff repeatedly passed by our table without checking on us. I eventually had to get up and speak to the hostess to get any attention. It was truly disappointing, especially on such an important day for my sister. Unfortunately I will not be recommending this restaurant to anyone.

We love Carmine's - especially this location. Everytime I am in NYC I make reservations here to meet with my local Family and Friends. I love the Ambiance, the Food, and the Staff is Superior. Go a little early and have a drink at the bar - it reminds me of Cheers. Can't wait for my return

I was recommended to give this famous Italian restaurant a try by my hotel, and the food was awesome. GIGANTIC family portions available making it easy to share and try different plates especially if you are family or friends. I had to the Porterhouse steak which took over 45 mins to cook but was well worth it. Cooked to perfection and great quality of meat in my book. The linguini and Chicken Parm dinner that my family ordered were absolutely 5-star as well and came out a lot earlier than the Steak. I would also recommend the Fried Calamari with marinera sauce as an appetizer to start. Overall, everything about this restaurant is 5-stars including the dessert bread pudding. I just didn't appreciate the 15-minute wait despite having a 7pm reservation. The restaurant was not full, so I'm not sure why they would have given my table away to another party, although we arrived in a timely manner.. Despite this, I would definitely visit again on future family trips to New York City.

Reservation was for 6:15 didn’t get seated till about 6:40 Food is mid which could be forgiven if the bathroom wasn’t the most disgusting thing I’ve seen in a while. Blood and urine on floors leaving most toilets unusable. The take out area of the restaurant also had a gross musty smell. I would never return we were even given utensils or napkins? Why would I have to ask for that when I’m sitting down at a table.

TO AVOID, inedible food and garlic everywhere, huge portions with a waste of money and food if you are a couple. I attach the photo of the pasta with clams

I would not recommend this location anymore after 15+ years of patronizing Carmines Restaurants for family gathering, graduations, birthdays and even using their catering services. Last several (between 4-5 times) we have been to this location, the "staff" have acted us if they're doing us favor.. We have paid ABSURD bills for lackluster food that is filled with breading and cheap ingredients rather than their fresh vegetables and Italian-American flavors. The beverages here are now cheap as well and filled with ice; We have also had to ask the waiter to bring glasses of water after sitting down for over an hour. Yet, he had the audacity to be bragging to other tables about the restaurant's history /prestige that has been long gone now. Overall, this Italian Chain has became a nutshell of the restaurant it was once known around NYC for, and I would not step foot into another Carmines restaurant whether it is in Upper West Side, Times Square, The Bahamas, or Washington D.C.

Literally just below average Italian. The hype is just that. We were there this past Thursday and the male bartender was terrible to boot.

Great food, great staff, wonderful experience. Unbelieveable strawberry short cake. Extremely busy for Father's Day but the staff was focused and very professional and attempting to fulfull all of our dinner needs.

Really mediocre Italian food and disappointing all around. Family style was the draw for 10 of us, but the food was poor for an average Italian place and for NYC, it was completely unacceptable. How can they mess up angel hair pasta? I will never know…..lukewarm chicken parm. Ugh.

Seated quickly and a nice atmosphere. Good service. Didn’t enjoy the food. Had a cold anti-pasto which was bulked out with cheaper items and lacked flavour. The lasagna was way too heavy on the ricotta cheese. Expensive for what we had.

This was my very first visit to Carmine's and it made me wonder if I'd tasted better food when I visited Italy several months ago. Everything our group tried at Carmine's was fresh, delicious, and presented very well. We sampled several items from family-style platters - Prime Rib, Lobster and Seafood over Linguine, Stuffed Salmon, Calamari, different Salads and a Mixed Appetizer Platter. Dessert and Cappuccino's were really good. In a festive, family-style atmosphere, eating here was fun!

I use to love Carmine’s. Always a must do when we were in the city. Our service was so bad I will never return. We were sat and waited over 20 minutes before we were acknowledged. It just got worse. They lost a customer and fan. Food was not as good either.

Food was excellent but service was eh. Claudio was our server and he maybe came to the table a total of 6 times throughout our meal. Our manicotti & tiramisu was fantastic we definitely will try here again

place to go with a larger group ( 4 or more) as the portions are huge... so if you want to try different dishes , you will need 4 plus more to try to main meals. Awesome meals .... love the vibe , a true institution. Waiters are so friendly and professional.

Great family style restaurant. We were a large group of 20+ and they accommodated our every ask and the service was very good. Each course was tasty and hot. Can be a little loud but to be expected in such an environment. Would go back.

You don't go to Carmines for haute cuisine or fine wine. You go to eat a lot of comfort food with good friends. The service is always friendly, the portions beyond generous, and the seat socially distanced enough to let you relax. We always eat outside, which can accommodate groups easily, expanding as new friends arrive. There was a recent, much-publicized incident with 3 women from Texas assaulting a hostess (weird!) but New Yorkers rallied to Carmines, which took the whole thing in stride.

We bring our family to Carmine’s for a Christmas holiday season get together for dinner almost every year- for decades. Service and food was as expected until dessert when we ordered 2 Titanic, a bread pudding, 6 canoles, and a tieramisu, several cappuccino and several coffees. The desserts were delivered including the two Titanic ice creams without plates or silverware. We had several young children with us who had to just look at the ice cream as it literally melted on the platter because we weren’t given plates or silverware. My adult son finally got up from the table to inquire about plates and a stack of dirty plates- yes mine actually had chunks of old wet food on it- were set down on the table - not passed out around to the guests (there were 18 in our party.) After a long wait the cappuccino was brought cold - I told the waiter and he just acted like he didn’t hear me- we waited and again my son had to get up from the table to ask for the coffee several of us had ordered. After the coffee was finally brought I had to ask for milk (we were told they were out of half and half it was only around 1:30 in the afternoon) another ridiculous wait time for a large (water) pitcher of milk was brought that we passed around.By the time the coffee was served we had finished dessert. It might sound petty but I didn’t even receive a spoon or saucer with my coffee. When you have a check in the amount of $946.00 I don’t think it’s too much to expect dessert and coffer to be served properly. Our server was very young and inexperienced. Better training of the wait staff is needed. In the past we had experienced, mature, wait staff and the service was perfect. I spoke to the manager as we were leaving and she apologized but didn’t seem surprised at hearing about dirty plates being brought to our table or the awful coffee/dessert service at the end of our meal. The quality of service is an important aspect of the dining experience and in my opinion equal to the quality of the food. Here I am after we dropped over $1000 on a dinner feeling disappointed. And not just me…everyone in the party was in disbelief over the awful service. Great.- thanks a lot.

I just realized this was only a family-style restaurant. My son made the reservations for the family. The only good thing was the Caesar salad, which was a plate of Romain, but the dressing had a nice flavor. SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH THE MEATBALLS...TERRIBLE I WAS WORRIED I WAS GOING TO BE SICK LATER. I wanted to say something to the waitress, but my son said no. Never again.

I am amazed by the quality and taste of the food it was absolutely amazing! The staff was very friendly and professional. The portion size is amazing. I enjoyed every bite of my food. We had the Veal Cutlet and Ravioli. The drinks were Great! I'm still thinking about my experience and will no doubt return.

Awesome food, will definitely come back. Excellent service by our waiter Joe, we were attended with much care. Great local place in NYC!

We had a weekday lunch at Carmine's which is a famous Italian restaurant known for basic Italian food served in large portions for sharing. I really wanted to take the kids here for lunch. My wife and I had some legendary dinners here when we were dating. We started with fried calamari which was one of the best I've ever had. The portion was large with both rings and tentacles. It was served with a slightly spicy marinara sauce. I had a meatball hero with a side Caesar salad. The meatball was excellent. I prefer a crisp meatball but this was one for the books. It was a pork/veal/beef blend. The Caesar salad was a little bland for my taste. I'm not sure but maybe they changed the recipe to the dressing? The bread basket that was served first was awesome! There were pieces of tomato and rosemary focaccia with traditional Italian bread. Our only complaint about the bread was that they didn't have any butter to serve with it. Service was friendly and attentive. Our server had a big smile and made the kids feel welcome. I felt that the restaurant decor needed a face lift. The paint was peeling from the walls. It looked the same as it looked twenty years ago. Overall, we had an amazing family lunch. The kids were seriously impressed with the entire experience and are asking to return soon!

The upper west side location is the best. I prefer it over the chaos of the times square location. I made my reservation on open table but was able to adjust from 10 to 13 very easily by calling the restaurant. Since portions are huge this is a great place for large parties. The service was great. My only complaint is that the ladies restroom was not tidy and only one stall had toilet paper. I did appreciate the mouth wash strategically placed in the restroom.

They sat us at a small table for two assuming me and my guest was ordering the same kind of food, when asked if the table can be changed we were told no after watch 2 other couples come in and sit at a table for 4 ppl. I wasn't aware that Carmines is a fancy olive garden. When ordering we asked for shrimp parm with no cheese and was told that it comes that way and couldn't make any changes. The cheese goes on last so that was different and made me aware that all of the food there is prepared already unless you order fried food the calamari was grease. Wasn't impressed at all.

My family and I visit Carmine's 3-4 times per year for birthdays and holidays. This day was to celebrate our son's 20th birthday. We always order the delicious Caesar salads. That night we ordered two as some folks have wheat allergies( no croutons) . The salad tasted as though there was an accident in the kitchen and that whomever made the salad that day overloaded the dressing with vinegar. When I made the shift manager aware he was curt and dismissive. He said " It's the same recipe that we've used for 50 years ". As if it was impossible that something went wrong. Mind you the salad was barely touched and my request for assistance was made after one bite of the salad that I have been eating at this restaurant for 25 years. I mean when you pay 27 bucks per salad you would think that someone would be more accommodating. The salads ended up being thrown out. Word to the wise..DON'T ASK, INSIST that the waiter take the item back immediately and remove it from your bill. Otherwise you'll be stuck paying for undesirable food.

Food was excellent, had the best service and gluten free pasta. Every thing was exceptional. Service provided great recommendations and service.

With all the great restaurants in NYC, why spend your precious time at this one? The food is mediocre at best but I’m not sure it even reaches that level. It’s Italian food done poorly. I don’t understand all the good reviews. Maybe it’s the large portions that excites people. Yes, the portions are big but they’re also expensive. The place was half empty and they still tried to seat us at a bad table. Look around and you’ll find some really good Italian restaurants in this city. Don’t waste your time with this dump. Pros: Good bread and competent waiter.

Have frequented Carmines for years so I was disappointed to see that they have declined so drastically after COVID. We ordered take out this past Sat from the 44th street location. Penne pasta with Chicken Parm. I have had this dish dozens of times before and it is great. This time? 2 THIN small pieces of chicken (burnt on the edges) and overcooked pasta. It was barely edible for $50. When I am spending $50 for dinner for 2 people on TAKE OUT, I expect the food to be edible, especially in NYC. I would not return here anytime soon. Extremely disappointed.

This NYC staple is worth adding to your "must do" Manhattan list. I've been to the Times Square location, but opted to try the Upper Westside one since staying nearby. We booked our reservation online a week in advance and only early Monday dinner (4pm) was available. However, I prefer this as it wasn't crowded. By the time we left, the restaurant was brimming with people. What I loved is that we were seated right away, served fresh bread and water as soon as we were seated and received very attentive service (which surprised me since this is clearly a tourist stop). I felt at home with the family style entrees and happy wait staff. We opted for the penne a la vodka, meatballs and red wine, which arrived before we finished our first glass of wine. The pasta is homemade and sauce flavorful (wish they sold it to take home). We split this between three people and had plenty to bring back to our hotel for leftovers. Even with that, I ate too much and had to walk it off for miles!

Such a great experience. The food is plentiful and fantastic. We brought home a ton of leftovers even after we ate until we were all full. Everything was fresh, hot and delicious. Would definitely recommend

Carmine's never disappoints! We chose the uptown location for a celebratory engagement luncheon in advance of a larger party at a nearby venue. Service was outstanding (Tina) and food delicious. The large round table worked really well for our group of 10 close family members of the future bride and groom. Thank you, Carmine's!

Carmine’s doesn’t play when it comes to flavor. We chose to sit outside and enjoys the views. The weather was beautiful but if it was cold they had heat lanterns that we were made aware of. The staff was very friendly and explained everything in full including the specials. I was very pleased and coming back on our next trip to nyc. The portions were also family sized.

Went for lunch ordered the wings and lasagne! The food was brilliant! Beware large portions! Our server Lugano was amazing brilliant! Highly recommended

Excelent service and food! Jamel the manager is great! We order scarperiello wings and garlic linguini and qas delicious!

This place is big, well-lit, friendly, a throwback in restaurant design to another era. This is meant as a place where family will eat, share, enjoy. The overall menu is standard Italian, but the servings are huge, meant to be shared. An order of lasagna will serve 6 easily. We had a pepper salad, roast red peppers with mozzarella, and then stuffed artichokes. The latter was 2 huge artichokes, so it served 4. We had Carmine's house chianti, which was very respectable. Followed with good coffee and a tiramisu, with a "half" serving that more than served 4 people. Come hungry. We love the ambiance, the sharing, the friendly staff, and the delicious food. This is a true dining experience. If you look at the prices, remember that if you order conventionally, you will have a huge amount of food to take home. Not that it is so bad to have leftovers.....

We had a very enjoyable meal here and even though we were aware of the size of the portions, the mixed salad was enough for twice as many as were were. Lovely meatballs and chicken parmigiana. Very welcoming staff - our initial reservation was changed without any problem. They even answered the phone! I would recommend this restaurant

We were greeted well and seated fairly quickly. Food choices were great . Our waiter, Chris F. was extremely nice and helpful. Made our experience enjoyable. then we went to the Broadway show with happy smiles.

Simple cooking “just like at home”. The portions are generous, 1 dish for 3. Good value for money and efficient service. The restaurant is very noisy but like most in the USA!

Attention to detail unsurpassed.....senior server Denise-attention to needs of guest= 100%!!!!!even brought out water bowel for our dog!!!! she paced us to our needs; as a 5 star restaurant server!!!!! kudos to Joshue MInor Manager- to his checking on satisfaction- birthday dinner June 5 / parties were M Gewirtz/L Rutkin/D Dorin/A Levine

We were in NYC visiting friends for a couple of days and were trying to figure out dinner on our last night there, (01-01-20). AS many places were closed, we decided to take out and eat in. They recommended Carmine's and it was wonderful. We ordered a wonderful chicken dish, linguine and garlic bread. The order was enough to serve four, very reasonable and delicious. When we arrive to pick our order up, the bar was packed and there was a line to get in. Our friends frequent Carmine's ofter and now we know why; good food, healthy portions and reasonable fare for NYC. Hope to try it again when we visit.

My wife and I ate there, as we had heard nothing but good things. This is not a place for a couple. The "Family Style" dining forces you to decide on a meal you will both have to share, rather than what you may truly desire. This created a lot of wasted food! The food itself was okay. It was WAY too salty

The quality of the food is below average. The meat for bolognese pasta was overcooked and the Broiled Porterhouse Steak was really disappointing (also very expensive). The staff is nice but not enough to compensate the low quality of the food. We don’t recommend!

If I could give 0 stars, I would.. Where do I start, if you want to waste $$$, be subject to bad service and miserable food, and deal with lackluster service that values themselves more than client, this is your IDEAL place. Besides this, I can get a spaghetti and meatballs that looks like it was made a couple weeks back and microwaved, Iceburg lettuce, oily greasy food, and mean-tempered servers somewhere elsewhere. Really sad to see what Carmines has become

I have been coming to Carmines for over 40 years .it was my go to restaurant. The white clam sauce was to die for . Case and point . It was horrible i never care about yr cost because the quality is always on point. It was over garlic very few clams and the clam broth was watered down. For tourists ehi don't know what quality is this is perfect for them. Carmines is better than that. I should have gone to Keens Steak house . I was so disapointed. I mentioned to the waitress about that dish .She had no clue what I was talking about. I just can't believe the quality hit the skids . I hope someone in Corp reads this and takes these comments seriously.I know you always have a packed house . So maybe you don't care anymore because of the crowds .I'm not sure if I will come back after 40+ years .Just saying the truth .

Not what it used to be. Dishes used to be outstanding from Carmine's and they are now consistently ordinary and overpriced, at best; restaurant is unresponsive, and dishes no longer look like their menu photos. Staff has become rude; phone staff, unwilling to correct order mistakes. My last 2 Carmine's orders were supposed to be made with red/tomato sauce. You guessed it, both deliveries arrived with No Sauce! I called them and asked for sauce & they insisted it was prepared properly They refused to send red sauce for the calamari and pasta dish - though you'd be hard pressed to find anything red in that oil based, perhaps a white clam sauce, instead.I asked for them to come pick it up for a refund if they won't send sauce, but despite paying for delivery, directly TO Carmine's, they claimed I'd have to bring it back to the restaurant myself - that they used a 3rd party delivery service and won't take it back. I've been a long-standing customer of Carmine's- more than 20 years and order it at least once/month - go at least 6x/year and order from there for holidays, etc. I know my Carmine's dishes. And that's why I was so upset when their food changed so drastically in the last few years - and became completely unreliable in the last few months. Below are photos of the calamari in red sauce on their menu, and the calamari we received. Also photographed is a picture of the chicken combo hero which arrived dry, without sauce. It was inedible. Again, same scenario - wouldn't bring sauce, wouldn't take it back. No refunds. $17.95 for the hero plus $6.95 delivery and fees. Garbage! I'm not writing to complain about the food, I'm hoping to reach someone at Carmine's who cares and will actually reply. Anyone I've spoken to is not in charge (only online order person) I have no way of reaching anyone in management. Calls go to voicemail. Finally, if Carmine's is no longer selling the same dishes as before, please change the menu photos to reflect what you're selling. And if it no longer comes with sauce, say so. I want the Carmine's back that earned it this great reputation. For now, food is average at best, and the restaurant is counting on tourists for business, while alienating decades-long loyal customers.

Carmine’s never disappoints. Always good food & great service. Family style Italian restaurant. My favorite go to dishes are the calamari, house salad, chicken parmigiana, meatballs, any pasta (all are good) stuffed mushrooms, Chicken Scarpariello and the veal. This time we tried the specials of the day for a change. Both were really good, rack of lamb and spaghetti carbonara. We also tried the cheesy garlic bread. Everything was really good.

From the appetizer to the dessert, everything was delicious! We reserved a 4 chair table and we were happy that we were seated in the corner, away from everyone passing or squeezing past us. It was a very enjoyable dinner. The dessert put me over the "I'm full" mode. Lol.. we all shared one strawberry cake.

The food is super simple. There is nothing too much and nothing justifies this waiting line or even the exhaustion of reservations. A simple pasta with sauce, just pretty big. Not recommended for couples as the portion is quite large.

Our waiter was Eduardo. Very informative & sweet. Food was amazing! And the drinks were so good. My guy and I were so happy with the service. Eduardo treated us like family and we will be back soon to try new pastas on the menu. 91st Broadway HNY EVERYONE! GOD BLESS

We made reservations in November for Christmas Day with our family from Va. It is a beautiful restaurant with excellent service and food! I especially enjoyed the family style dining. The entrees are delicious and huge! I was able to take some back to the hotel and shared it with the receptionist after finding out that she could not find a place open and was so hungry, which made her Christmas day special. There was no wait as we had reservations ahead of the time. It was a special Christmas dinner with our family and will return when we come again!

I tried the scallopino chicken with roasted potatoes and broccoli but the salt on the potatoes made them inedible and the broccoli was was warm but massively under cooked,if you’re going to eat here for 2 order a pasta dish but only order 1 for people, perhaps it’s mass produced but it’s by far the better option food wise,a good vibe throughout the restaurant and the staff and management are very professional

We ordered gluten free pasta and it arrived in a giant pan, undercooked and lacking sauce and flavor. What a disappointment.

Something is very wrong here they seat you according to your looks and age.. An older couple came in and they were taken way upstairs out of view seated against the wall despite plenty of room downstairs. When asked to be reseated downstairs they were given the back wall. I observed other enthic women given the same treatment as well as tourists who dressed down. Then we sent in the young pretty girls. They were seated near the windows and near the center of the room. Check it out!

The food is always good but we was not served any bread and also when they brought out the food they didn't place it on our plates the way they normally do

We have been going to Carmines since it opened, we were good for probably two visits a month. The most amazing thing about Carmines is the consistency of the food, it is almost spot on everytime. Our experience has been that the service was always friendly, accurate and timely, unfortunately we ended up with a wiater this visit that had the gift of gabe but the memory of an Alzheimer's victim. We ordered cocktails which were slow to arrive and an appetizer which took forever after a reminder to our waiter Mr. O we will call him. We ordered a second round of drinks and received those after another reminder and a status check of our meal. Our meal arrived and the Pasta dish was not hot and the other dish was just warm, by this time we were not in the mood to deal with this guy and made the best of it. Moral of the story is this visit was the worst service we ever had and don't accept a Mr. O for your waiter.

Did not seat us. Too crowded. Ignored our 6:30 reservation. Seated walk-in larger groups. Let too many people inside and could not handle the chaos. Poorly managed.

Do you stomach and your wallet a favor by staying away from chain Italian-American restaurant that has become a pity of its former self. Besides a very rude and inept staff, you will have to pay a lot for oily food filled with tons of breading/cheese. When I asked about fresh ingredients, non-iceburg lettuce, and grilled vegetables, the waiters blatantly told me that they are doing this for cost-effective purposes. The over $100 Porterhouse which used to feed 3-4 family members easily with left-overs now can be ate in one sitting. Cheap quality food with heavy prices that you're better off paying at a real Italian-American restaurant.

What a wonderful experience! This place is noisy, bustling, full of interesting people and just fun. We booked a table for 5 (which included two picky eater kids). We had to wait about 30 minutes, but there is a bar where you can have a drink while you wait so it’s not too bad. If you like to be seated as soon as your slot arrives, this won’t be it. We knew in advance that this was a restaurant that serves massive portions, so we knew to pick dishes that could be shared by all. We chose fried calamari to start, and then a porterhouse with peppers and onions as well as roasted potatoes. It was all delicious! We rarely order meat because many places can’t cook it right, but this was fabulous! We will definitely be back again someday!

My husband and I visited Carmine’s for dinner on a quick weekend trip. We arrived early for our reservation, to discover it had been accidentally canceled. Nonetheless, we were seated in the main dining room exactly on time after a seat at the bar. We drank the Italian Manhattan at the bar, and it was delicious. We settled on rigatoni and meatballs as our meal. All dishes are served family style. We did not get a salad, and we were happy about that choice, because the rigatoni alone could have fed 5 people. I also got a strawberry sparkler with my meal. It was fantastic, too! I can’t think of anything that could have made this meal better. Highly recommended. The servers were also extremely friendly and good. So glad we made this choice.

We loved going to Carmines last night! We have been there before but not in a long time because of the pandemic. Our dinner was fabulous! The portions are huge and delicious!! We had fried calamari, mussels, salad, pasta and steak. Each dish was cooked to perfection! Amazing mix of quality and quantity! Brandy was our server and she was great! Enjoy!

We celebrate my birthday at Carmine’s (Broadway NY). The food was fantastic! Very good Italian food. The plates are enormous, be aware of that with one can eat 4 or 5 people. Look my pics. The vibes are very good, many families and friends happy celebration birthdays and enjoying the dinner. The walls are full of old pictures. This is probably one of the best Italian restaurants in NYC If you like my review give me a 👍

This restaurant is an institution in New York and it deserves its title Italian cuisine generously serves in dishes to share for 2 or 3 people this ultimately gives a reasonable addiction compared to the other restaurants we have made The setting is typical the friendly welcome The atmosphere seduced us as much as the dishes

Amazing family dinner for the holidays after visiting the Rockefeller tree. The food is as good as home cooked and staff is amazing.

For 15 years, this was my absolute favorite restaurant. Any and every special occasion was spent here. The food was consistently delicious - I never even gave it a thought. After COVID (in 2021), my husband and I went to celebrate my birthday and it was definitely not up to par. Last night, we brought two couples to celebrate my birthday and I will honestly say that this is likely my last time here. The food was mediocre - completely unacceptable. I don't know what happened to this place, but I'm so sad.

Large family lunch. Carmine's was close so I booked it. The food, all of it, was awful! Over-cooked pasta, iceberg lettuce salad drowned in salad dressing, shrimp scampi were tasteless, etc., etc.

Great family style food .. excellent quality Calamari was amazing !! We got different chicken a pasta dishes and all were great!!!

Be very careful when going to carmines on 91st street. The gentleman that works the door was harassing my wife and sister about going to the bathroom. Yes, harassing paying customers. Absolutely disrespectful and disgusting

The overall experience was great. The staff was friendly. The waiter was very helpful explaining the items on the menu. The most important was that this is family style. A dish made at Carmines is for 3-4 people. He wasn’t lying on that. My fiancé and I ordered the “porterhouse contadino” the plate was huge. The food was very good. The whole experience was great. There was only one issue that we had overall. The bathroom was filthy. If you have ever had the pleasure of drinking at a dive bar you know to try to avoid the bathroom at all cost, well the bathroom at carmines reminded me of a dive bar bathroom. As long as you don’t have to go to the bathroom carmines is a great experience. Make sure you go with a lot of friends because there is a lot of great tasting food.

Took my team out to celebrate a strong close to the year and we had a great time and the FOOD.. The food was perfect. I recommend the 45 ounce steak....

Our group of six ordered the Caesar Salad, and three entrees. This is family style huge portions. Way too much food for six people. Two entrees would have been plenty.

If you are looking for the classic family style, Italian experience of way too much delicious food on the table inducing laughter, conversation and fun, then this is the perfect solution on the Upper West Side. We were a bit hungry after walking on a lovely winter Saturday and stopped in during lunch hours. The size of the space is tremendous with high ceilings, allowing lots of table reconfigurations for small and large parties. Our fantastic waiter Omar was exceptional, helping us navigate the menu and beverages and never feeling rushed. We each had a fabulous cocktail and split the seafood special of the day, stuffed salmon - which was filled with spinach, shrimp, crab and more seafood and only a smattering of breadcrumbs for crunch. It was fantastic! We left happy and beyond full. It was perfect.

We went here with a group and had a pre-arranged menu. There was lots of food served family style, and we liked it all. We started with Mutzarella over Roasted Red Peppers and a garden salad with roasted red peppers. Then we had Rottini with sausage and tomatoes. It was great. Our featured entrees were Eggplant Parm, which was in a stack. It was delicoious. The other entree was Chicken Marsalla. It was also tasty but a little heavy on the Marsella. For dessert we had Taramusu. This was our first time here, but not our last..

The food was good but our server was not so good we had to keep on trying to get his attention, missing plates missing forks we had to get up and steal forks from The tables set.

Reservation made in advance from the UK and wish we hadn’t. If you all want to eat the same meal guess this is the place for you. As a family of three who are well travelled and visited many Italian restaurants around the world even in Italy which I doubt most people in this place haven’t. Any questions about the meal where answered with the same reply ( it’s the Italian way) the portions are ridiculously huge which most guests got giddy about and obviously didn’t bother about the food waste or value for money just a Facebook photo opportunity. We travelled quite far this Christmas Day meal and wasn’t impressed. 1 person starter 1 x Caesar salad ( enough for 6 people ) 2 person starter ( enough for 6 people ) -> Now the main course we had roast chicken and a portion of roasted potatoes ( enough for 12 ) we wanted vegetables etc but was advised against mixing due to size of portions. So just chicken & roasted potatoes WHAT A JOKE. Even worse the potatoes had to be sent back they had been on the warming plate too long and inedible. So basically a version of KFC without fries for Christmas dinner 😡 . Portions should be proportionate to the guest at the table and charged accordingly like 99.99% of restaurants Clearly the Carmines Italian way works for them pile it high & sell high, but not for the small family visitor. far better dining experiences elsewhere. Try Rosie O’Gradys 148 W 51st St, New York, NY 10019 relaxing environment service and food very good you even get a wine glass with your wine.

No wonder why this restaurant is so busy. Price of pasta looks pricey but indeed it is family size, good for 4 people. Taste good. If you’re tourists, make sure the amount of food you’re going to order, otherwise, you will have lots of leftovers. We took the leftovers with us but we found out later that our hotel charges$20 to rent a microwave. The seafood pasta was $70’ish (market price) which would lobster and other seafood, so it didn’t sound expensive at all. Too bad that we only had 2 people to try that out. Servers were nice and friendly. Highly recommended.

We called in for lunch without booking but they found us a table even though it was packed. I’m Gluten Free and they had a separate menu, but not priced like the normal menu, so be careful. I ordered the GF Seafood Pasta and the waiter said it would be large so suggested we share it. It was great, lobster, large prawns and much more with GF pasta. There was enough for 4 people. It was lovely but did cost $74 on its own, so was a little surprised. However, restaurant was great, service great and really enjoyed it.

What used to be a great Italian restaurant has turned into a ghetto. The pasta used to be fresh with family portions, however, now it's just a box pasta with mediocre sauce -- it still attracts people who don't know any better to the UWS. The staff is rude and more interested in the games on their TVs over the decaying bar. The restaurant used to be on point, now it's just a joke and an insult to Italian cuisine. Thanks but no thanks.

Carmine’s restaurant is an oasis on the Upper Westside with high ceiling fans reminiscent of Rick’s restaurant in the Bogart movie Casablanca with great classic contemporary music. The bartender Tone is amazing like Tom Cruise in the movie “Cocktails”!

I don't have anything bad to say about the restaurant. The food was delicious the service was good, we arrived on time we made reservations they set us down as soon as we got there. The food came out quickly and it hot and it was plenty and it all tasted delicious. I will give this restaurant a five stars any day.

I used to love Carmine's and would frequent the restaurant often but their take out service and food has not been good at all. What was more disappointing was their lack of care when I communicated to the manager, Reah, how unpleasant the food tasted when I ordered food today. Carmine's too expensive for the customer service they are providing and the lack of good food. If they continue, I wouldn't be surprised if the 91st Carmine's ends up closing down like the one in Times Square.

Excellence Italian, Family style- we enjoyed the zuppi Di clams, and veal with lemon and butter over spaghetti... there was enough leftover for a family of four!! All great all delicious.. service was good,

My daughter and I had dinner here - the portions are sharing platters/massive so we didn’t get to try more than a starter and shared main … which was enough for at least three, probably four people. The pasta was really nicely cooked and served with about a million prawns! Our waiter was friendly and efficient. Recommended but more suited to groups of 4+ diners

Very welcoming and relaxing atmosphere. Delicious food, home style portions. Flavours were really good - I will be visiting here again the next time I am in NY. Definitely recommend.

This was our first time at this location. The food was delicious and staff was friendly and quick food came out fast. We had calamari shrimp scampi and lasagna and carmines colada

Great restaurant, phenomenal staff!! The food was impeccable. Make reservations, and please go to this restaurant when in NY.

Great setting, fantastic food and even better service. Danielle took care of us and we had a class experience.

Love this place, I try to go any time I can when I visit Ny. Great and delicious food and dessert. People so friendly.

Great value, family friendly. We ordered four pasta dishes and two desserts for a group of seven...and had enough leftovers for multiple subsequent meals. Appreciated the clear notes on which dishes could be veganized.

When we told people we were going to New York, everyone told us we must go to Carmine’s… had a bit of a wait but totally worth it!!! Our family got the lasagna and it was big enough for all of us; best I’ve ever had; staff was great; great atmosphere and relatively priced with highly highly recommend

We had not been in quite a while -- and went with friends visiting NYC. The pluses are the ambience, the prompt service, the large portions (3 dishes for the six of us was plenty) and the really excellent Caesar's salad. The significant minus is that of three dishes we ordered two were pastas -- and they were only average at best (sigh).

Not the most expensive. Not the fanciest just good family restaurant with very good food. The best Calamari Ive ever had- and I’ve been to Sicily. The portions are HUGE- the atmosphere is wonderful and the staff are very friendly and very good. And did I mention- the food is exceptional. Highly recommendef

You just can't go wrong at Carmine's. The experience brings families together enjoying the yummy food and sharing stories as you go.

Lovely evening at a traditional Italian Restaurant in the heart of New York. The staff were great and so was the menu selection. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals and had plenty to take away. It is a sharing concept so be mindful of the very generous portion sizes!

Really disappointing. We had a 2 reservation since a family member needed to make a train at 5. We weren’t seated until 3:20 and she barely had time to eat. She was served regular pasta when she asked for gluten free and she had an autoimmune disorder that is triggered by gluten. In general the service was bad and the staff seemed overwhelmed and irritable.

Great service, staff, menu offerings. Huge portions to take home. Delicious food, lively atmosphere where everyone is having fun enjoying a wonderful evening out with friends and family!

Pre booked and good job as the place was packed! Lots of friendly people and staff were good except the one who recommended the 4 pasta special after I asked her what was good for a carnivore who likes pasta! The 4 pastas are Nocci, lasagna, ragu and cannelloni- problem was lasagna was veggie and gross, cannelloni was ricotta and cheese, the ragu was basically meat free! Everyone around seemed to enjoy their food but ours was a let down due to us given bad advice!

Too crowded ! Even if you schedule a time, you still have to wait to be seated and the food takes a while to come to the table! At the bar they charged us 6 drinks and we only consumed 4 (we only went to check when we had already left the restaurant) Lasagna dish is not as generous as other options that serve up to 4 people! Lazanha only serves 2

As usual, food and service were excellent! Special mention to Ali, the bartender and Alex our server… great service! Keep up the good work

This is an update as I forgot to mention that I also ordered the Mixed Seafood with Linguini, which the mussels were not cleaned still containing sand, lobster was over cooked, shrimp were not deveined properly, plus very oily and flavorless. This dish is not worth $74.00!! BTW... Dont waste your time or money!!

Restaurant is truly overrated, food was just ok. Gigantic dishes but not a lot of flavor. The restaurant is very run down and could use some upgrades.

10/10 - huge portions (seriously get 1 meal between 2-3 people!) but don’t let that put you off as the food is great! Quality and fresh ingredients! Lovely atmosphere and all the wait staff were excellent!
Don’t avoid but don’t over order
Luckily they were warn you how big the portions are! They were huge! Our waiter was very friendly. There was a good atmosphere and all the food was tasty.
