Trendy bar with OK food

By Nicholas C |

They are trying very hard with the food, but it isn't quite right. We both had the roast chicken and a bean salad to share. Nothing was inedible or bad, but the chicken was a little dry and probably needed a sauce or chutney, some of the roast potatoes were not quite cooked enough, and the bean salad had too many mung bean / pea shoot sprouts and not enough beans. This sounds harsh, and we may just have gone on an off night. It has real potential to be a great place - the bar is pumping, and the menu looks really good. On the night we were there, the food needed a bit more care.

Nice ambient

By marcia1974z |

I had a salad and a burguer and was delighted with the result! Good food! Good ambient also (candle light and wood) but maybe just a touch too dark...there is a child menu which was useful in my case and, sorry, had no space left for dessert ;) it was recommended by anette from big bus tour (thanks for all the info you gave us on the bus!) and i was pleasantly surprised.

Great atmosphere with great food & Drink

By SimilarGent |

I visited here in December with my girlfriend. We went early evening and the place was buzzing with people visiting it for a few beers and food after work. It was great. The service was spot on and we were shown to our table (we pre-booked) and drinks order taken quickly. The menu was nice without too much choice. The food arrived quickly and was great.

Wonderful retreat in Midtown

By sprovonsha |

We went here with our family. We had 7 in our party and all the food was fantastic. We have 3 apps, gnocchi, bacon and sliders. They were all delish. Also we loved the cocktail list. Everyone enjoyed the drinks. Lastly desert hit the spot. Try the donuts. YUMMY. Thanks for a wonderful night out in the big city!

Nice brunch at Cask

By Leah S |

My friends and I enjoyed brunch at Cask on July 28. Service was friendly and quick. They give a little basket of mini muffins complimentary to the table. That is a tasty little way to start. I had the breakfast sandwich with eggs, avocado and bacon. Comes with fries. Very good and filling. Will gladly return!

Great little find in mid-town to meet friends for drinks.

By Kimberlee Y |

We met some friends here while traveling to the city last fall. It was recommended by the concierge at our nearby hotel. We loved it! They were able to accomodate us for drinks only since we didn't have a reservation, but the food coming out of the kitchen smelled fabulous! We did order my daughter a burger because she's not used to waiting so late to eat and it was delicious. The atmosphere, though loud as one would expect a bar to be, was so cute -- reminded us of a restaurant we like to go to when we're in Paris. Anyway the highlight was the drink we had: a jalapeno-blood orange margarita, which is still my favorite drink! I immediately came home and figured out how to copy it. Yummy, yummy!

Friendly staff, great food & drinks

By PeterWalks |

We went with a friend who lives nearby. Wasn't too busy, the service was excellent and the staff were really welcoming. Food was tasty, promptly served and the menu was good. There is space upstairs and down. They also did a pitcher of a champagne cocktail for $25 which we shared between us.

Not worth the trip.

By Luxury Global Reviews |

Salty food without much flavor. Would not recommend. Service is laughable. Decent cocktail list. Might come back for bar style fried appetizers but not a real meal.

What a wonderful experience all around

By agnes9971 |

I usually don't venture to this part of town as I prefer Lower parts of Manhattan. Boy am I glad I did. I received the warmest welcome from host Dana who is just sweet, personable and wonderful. We ordered spicy margaritas on happy hour along with wine. Later we switched to delicious sangria. All drinks were well done and highly recommended. For snacks I had the best crispy potatoes and mushroom flat breads. Portions were generous and everything was superbly tasty. What a. Wonderful surprise in Kips Bay. I'll return very soon. Thank you Dana for the wonderful time!

Really good food and atmosphere

Enjoyed a private party at Cask on a Sunday night with friends. Loved the downstairs bar area. The food was really good and homemade. Would definitely return again and recommend to others.

Great food and beer and wine pairings in Murray Hill

By Mark R |

This is a bar with great food AND a kitchen with great drinks. I loved the suggested beer/ cidar and food pairings. Everything was delicious; the staff was knowledgeable and friendly( and yes it's in NYC); and whoever is picking and pairing the beer has a gift. Try the Pear salad and Crispin cidar or the Scallops and lager. It has a young professional meets the neighborhood clan vibe but it's easy to fit in.... As a former brewery owner myself, I loved this place

Great brunch spot, affordable

By Jim P 2007 |

Close to Lexington Ave subway stop (33rd and 3rd). Good for average-sized parties. Great benedicts (short rib version, especially).

More than a bar

By GLaker |

Don't be fooled into thinking this is just a bar, because the kitchen part is worth experiencing. Our party of 7 enjoyed a great meal after visiting a family member at NYU Medical Center. From hamburger to steak and scallop entrees, everything was delicious. I had the scallop and risotto dish - it was very tasty. The tuna sushi, macaroni & cheese and mussels were appealing appetizers. Service was friendly and attentive. I wasn’t crazy about the beer I had selected and the waitress directed me to one I did enjoy. So, if you’re in the 33rd Street and 3rd Avenue area of NYC and could go for a great crafted brew and some very appetizing food, plan to make the Cask Bar & Kitchen a stop.

Great Little spot midtown east

By sheri100 |

We live around the block . We were looking for something close do grab something to drink with good food. This place is great. Went in at 8pm, place was pretty full, but they got us a table. The food here is amazing! The tuna tartare was great and the soup of the day was perfect for this cold ny night. Will be back

One of best casual restaurants in Murray Hill

By jadon06 |

Been here a few times for drinks as a nice warm ambiance to place. Ate there on most recent visit and food was excellent. Grilled vegetables fish and chips and salads all excellent. Great appetizers as well especially the Brussel sprouts. Very good beer selection. One of best places in Murray Hill for very good food at reasonable price.

Great sharing food

By BeckyJazzz |

We were a group and they had great sharing food options. Also stayed for dinner so the single plates were good as well.

Top choice

By NellyNelly1102 |

My friends and I ate here after it was suggested by our tour guide. We ate at different restaurants every meal for 4 full days, and this was collectively the favorite of the group. The food was superb and the service was perfect! Prices were average for NYC, nothing crazy. Highly recommend!!

Loved the bar

By Ms Willemse |

Did my homework before travelling and found this bar. Enjoyed the beers, happy hour was great and was the service. We had bar snacks on night which were tasty. We stopped here most nights before heading out

My new NYC favorite

By Katia0127 |

Perfect for good draught beers and small plates. Creative spin on appetizers, everything we had was excellent. Lamb nachos with wontons chips smothered with sriracha were ridiculously good. Also loved Philly cheesesteak spring rolls. I will certainly be back next time I am in NYC.

Perfect afterwork

By Joy B |

Great selection of drinks, good food, nice atmosphere. We found the place by coincidence and as the happy hour looked promising decided to give it a try. Although it was a Monday the place was packed. P.S.: Try the mussels!

Great Atmosphere,drinks & food

By Colin G |

We tried to get a table on Friday evening but the whole place was heaving. We returned on Sunday evening and again it was busy but we had a table after a couple of dinks at the bar. Great selection of Cocktails & beers and good menu of upmarket pub fare.

Crispy

By Atheyrn |

Crispy, cozy, comfortable, clean, great service, delicious shots, roomy, perfect lighting, enjoyable music, words say it all. Whether you are with friends or solo this is the perfect place to be. Can't wait to return.

Friendly & cozy, great happy hour

By Joan S |

I wandered in here about 9pm late on my first day of this New York trip. I was in search of something local and an excellent Manhattan cocktail, away from the bigger places on Lexington. The personable Irish bartender made a perfect Manhattan and the happy hour ribs and grilled corn were good & plenty for dinner. Evening ambiance: cozy & dark. The next day I came back after a long walk and sat by the breezy open window for a street view and wine.

Casual Business Dinner

By dashdoggy |

I hosted a small business dinner here with some new young staffers as part of their on-boarding. I figured a more casual bar and restaurant would be more relaxing and less intimidating than a high-end steak place. The bar area was comfortable and the bartenders attentive. The menu has some proprietary beers on tap. Servers did a good job of helping select based on taste profile. We ate outside on picnic benches. I thought the food was well made and up to NYC standards. We shared sliders (2 per order), mac and cheese, and shishitos. All well received. Two of us had steak frites which also received warm reviews. One had salmon which was also well rec’d although he wasn’t impressed with portion size which appeared adequate to me as NY’er. Last was the pulled pork sandwich which also got a thumbs up. If on the east side near Baruch College I would consider this place. Good meal in a fun casual setting with outdoor seating in a not too bustling part of the city with friendly service.

My favorite restaurant in the city

By Eric S |

While I've only been a handful of times, it's hands down my favorite in the city. Why? Because the food is so good and so memorable. The atmosphere is great with dim lighting and wooden features everywhere. I've come with a group and with my fiance. If you come with a group of 4 or more, you can make a reservation. If you come with a date, you may have to wait. But that's okay because... Cocktails! They have an expansive list of cocktails, wine and beer. On my most recent trip I got an allagash white for beer, and my fiance had a gin martini. Both were fantastic!(sometimes I find beer to be flat in the city, not sure why, but beer was great here). Once you get seated, get your stomach ready. The bread and olive oil is out of this world. Not sure what kind of olive oil they're using, but damn. Every time I've been there i've had the truffle mac n cheese. I'm getting hungry just thinking about it. On my most recent trip, we also shared the brussel sprouts and the roasted lamb nachos. I haven't tried everything on the menu yet, but I'd imagine it's probably all out of this world. We didn't get dessert (too full!) but maybe next time. Can't wait to come back!

Great Place to Eat

By Rose F |

Great food and great service. We ate at the downstairs bar. Food was incredible. Shout out to bartender David Roth for taking such good care of us. Would definitely go again.

Happy Hour Visit before dinner.

By dickandjane71 |

We arrived at our NYC french restaurant next door too early but found the Cask adjacent offering Happy Hour Beverages and $1.00 oysters. This was a perfect way to kick off our evening. The service was friendly and the Happy Hour Value was good. I would do this again should my travels take me back to NYC.

Fun dinner spot

By MissTraveler_55 |

With a limited menu, I would check it out before going just to be sure it is the right place for you. Really great, old building, loud and fun after work spot.

$60 Dinner + Unlimited Wine worth it

By tiffany a |

The $60 bubbles and beats is such a steal. The food was amazing we got the salmon, burrata, and lamb nachos (must try!) The burger was juicy and flavorful, Oh also loved the carrot cake!! The unlimited wine IS an unbeatable deal they kept our glasses full throughout the night. Our server was amazing plus the live music was great, love the ambiance here. For great food, endless wine, and great beats, you can't go wrong here can't wait to come back - Thanks for an amazing time!

Glad we found it

By poonamallee |

So glad I found this place. It has a great decor, lovely food, and terrific service. We were going to the Flying Cock for brunch but we had a teen and they wouldn't serve alcohol with him being present at our table. Who doesn't want a spot of mimosa for brunch? We wandered here instead and glad we did. The place has a lot character, burnished old wooden booths an and tables. My son ordered the hangover sandwich and loved it. I ordered the eggwhite frittata and thought it was okay but not awesome, a bit drying and curling at the edges. Unfortunately, for most of the establishments, I am a really good cook and so can come across overly harsh. The frittata was filled with veggies though. It was not a cheap frittata. We also ordered the fried chicken sliders and it was well-liked as well. The beer selection is decent. So overall a nice to place to hangout for brunch. Like another reviewer said though, you got to like to eggs! The food itself is probably 3 stars (not bad at all) but the service and ambience push it to a 4.

Young servers and bad food

By Jody Kung |

The food is pretty basic and nothing special. The prices are high and the food took a while to come out. My French toast was undercooked and we had to order a new one. The seats were uncomfortable and I wouldn’t go back.

Cozy

By Sara R |

We ended up getting to Cask later than we wanted (10pm-ish), but the bar menu was still being served which was plenty to choose from. The restaurant itself is so cozy and comfortable, I think it was the only mid-town restaurant we didn't feel like sardines in. The food was great - brussels sprouts, flat bread & calamari. I had a great glass of Pinot Noir, my husband had one of the cask beers which he loved. We ordered donuts for dessert but they seemed stale, probably because it was 11pm by this time. We really loved this place though, very comfortable and great food & drinks.

Wonderful drinks, good food

By twilson140 |

This was just around the block from our hotel. This area seems to have a lot of younger folks and Cask (along with several other places) seems to be oriented to them. But as a couple of fogies, we crashed the placed and had a terrific time. We sat at the bar and were well-served by Rachel. We got a couple of enjoyable noshes with two excellent cocktails. If I lived in the area, I'd be a regular - even if I became the curmudgeon at the end of the bar.

I ♡ Cask!

By Annette M |

I've been to Cask multiple times. The first time I visited alone, every time after that I've brought friends. In fact 3 are eating there right now! Becca, Michael, and Dana "the guy with the really cool handlebar mustache" are fantastic servers. I'm a tour guide in NYC and tell all of my guests to ask for them. Not only is the food superb the servers, hosts, and hostesses all go above and beyond. The Bartender Heather is also a delight- she makes a mean Spiced Dark and Stormy! I'm a new convert to avocados... Cask has a killer avocado appetizer. It's a roasted avocado with corn and cilantro salsa. It's roasted so well that when you put your fork into it it's like slicing through warm butter. The lamb nachos are amazing. As are the flat-bread pizza with melted Gorgonzola cheese, caramelized onions, and grilled steak, the roasted chicken, braised ribs, roasted garlic mashed potatoes, the angel hair pasta, the chicken pot pie, and THE DONUTS!! mmmmm I'm already making plans for my next visit. The food at a restaurant is important to me; equally important is the experience. Everyone I've mentioned makes me feel like family. I look forward to many more meals at Cask!

Great local spot

By NCKari |

Such a great spot to sit and unwind with friends. Sat at the bar on both occasions and they are very cheery and hospitable. There own on draft beers are great and the meat and cheese platter was a great accompaniment. Candles set the mood to waste away your worries at the end of a long day.

Excellent Service. Food is Average. Great Drink List.

By blackslon |

Service: Came to this bar on a Friday evening (around 6pm) with two of my girlfriends. We had no reservation. I arrived first and was expecting one friend so I was seated at a table for two; but unexpectedly another guest arrived so we needed to move to a larger table. The hostess was very pleasant and accommodating. She gave me no grief about having no reservation or switching tables. The servers were very casual and friendly. Not pushy and giving plenty of space and time to decide on selection of drinks and food. Shortly after we sat down, water and bread with olives was on the table and we were cheerfully asked about our drink choices. Drinks/Food: The drink menu (wine, beer, cocktails – and a bar in general) is vast and appealing but I went with my usual glass of Malbec ($10). My friend tried some sparkling cocktail (range is $10-12) and was quite happy with it. The food menu includes small and large plates, salads, burgers and flat breads. We decided to go with a salad to share and a big plate. For salad we chose a lovely and fresh roasted pear salad with gorgonzola and hazel nuts ($10). The plate is a medium size so you can surely share – I recommend it. For a large plate, we chose seafood paella (but had chorizo) ($24). The plate is also medium size and two people can certainly enjoy it. It is difficult to come across a “real” paella. This one was all right but I will not rave about it. The mussels were a bit small and I thought the rice was “too” flavorful – killed taste of seafood a bit. We also tried truffle mac and cheese ($13), which came in a small-med sized skillet and was creamy and delicious. Atmo/Decor: A lovely and cozy place. When you walk in, there is a bar – most people were gathered there; and when you pass the bar, you reach the hostess and the main dining area. The dimply lit space has brick walls, wooden tables, lots of candles and charming décor on the walls. Along the wall, there are tables for two, in the middle there is a long wooden table, and there is a separate (but open) elevated area with a table that can fit a few people. It might be cool for a hang-out. Overall, I would recommend this charming place for a casual evening and a nice drink with an appetizer.

Superb

By Patrick O |

My wife and I met with a friend (unofficial Irish convention 😁) for drinks & meal in Cask. A superb experience and had the pleasure of meeting the owner, who looked after us personally. Couldn't fault the food (chicken fried mushrooms a revelation!!), service or ambience! It's your own fault if you leave either hungry or thirsty!

Fun place for a bite before the theatre.

By Harry A |

We were tourists visiting NY and staying in Murrayhill. This restaurant was recommended by our concierge and a local. We went for happy hour and split a bottle of wine and ordered small plates. Great pre-theatre idea. The Philly Steak eggrolls were unusual but good. Atmosphere is cozy and comfortable, waitstaff very good.

Great Food and Atmosphere

By David T |

We arrived early evening and were lucky to get a table as there was soon a waiting list. Menu seemed to have a bit of everything which seemed a bit strange but everything we chose was excellent. Waiter suggested a particular beer which turned to be really good. We chose this restaurant on the basis of a recommendation from a guide (Annette) on the Big Bus Tour, really glad we followed up on it! Enjoyed the food, beer, service and atmosphere. Not cheap but good value.

Excellent

By dindee123 |

Enjoyed the bartender and the food. Well worth the walk over there from the hotel. Casual, good value and good food.

Excellent food and beer! Great atmosphere along with marvellous service. Fully recommended!

By MCzapla |

Excellent food and beer! Great atmosphere along with marvellous service. Fully recommended! recommend the honey muscles and the salmon tartare!

Good food, good drinks, great atmosphere!

By Heart_Traveling85 |

I went with a friend for happy hour and dinner. We got their early...at around 5....no crowd and plenty of space. Their happy hour specials were pretty standard; $5 beer and $7 mixed drink or sangria. I got the veggie lasagna and it was DELICIOUS! I would say crowds started forming by the bar around 6ish. Fun atmosphere and when investigating the bathrooms downstairs (which were VERY clean btw) I noticed they have an additional bar in a little room for private parties. I would LOVE to host a party there. Perfect size for an intimate gathering of friends/family.

Frose!

By Rebecca L |

Great happy hour and atmosphere. Reasonably priced food and great selection. Best thing is the frozen rose slushies!

Good food, atmosphere, service and beer

By mclpcm |

Pros: Surprisingly good food, drink, and service in a hip (but not too hip) bar not far from the Morgan and shopping. Cons: its a bar with dining in the back and things could get tight.

Great Food Great Drinks Great Staff

By Gillian_David_6267 |

We had seen Cask Bar and Grill on the internet before we visited New York and put it on our list of places to try and it did not disappoint. In fact it was our favourite of all the New York bars we visited. Right from our first time through the door we were greated at the bar by Peter who asked our names and where we were visiting from. He recommened some great drinks and the Jalapeno Margaritta soon became my favourite. Everytime we returned he remembered us which was very welcoming, considering the number of customers they must get here and always had time for a friendly word. The food was also excellent. We sat down for a meal one night and I have to say this was one of the best Seafood risottos I have every had. The rice was cooked perfectly and it was full of delicious scollops and prawns with a ring of at least 20 large juicy mussels surrounding it. I was too full for dessert but did manage a couple of spoons of David's cheesecake which was so delicious I had to have my own portion when we returned a couple of days later. We would recommend a visit to anyone looking for a cooling drink and good food at the end of a tiring day walking the city streets and it is very easy to find on the corner of 33rd Street and 3rd Avenue.

Great ambiance

By Skych8ser |

I've been here a few times, each time it has been packed...especially the bar area which makes it uncomfortable whether you have a seat or not. I can never get past the bar area annoyance to enjoy a simple vino with friends.

AMAZING!

By Fionnuala Lavery |

Honestly had the nicest mac and cheese I've ever tasted! Burger was cooked to perfection and the jalapeño bloody Mary was interesting! Waiters were lovely and couldn't do enough for you. Love how cosy this place is at night!!

Cozy Happy Hour

By 1KRP |

We had Happy Hour cocktails and some small plates on a Friday night. Some of the cocktails were extraordinary (such as a very distinct Margarita with Jalapeño-infused Tequila), others were good but not outstanding. Among the small plates, we liked the Roasted Lamb Nachos and the Short Rib Sliders, but were less impressed by the Caramelized Brussel Sprouts and the Wild Mushroom Flatbread. Service was attentive, and the establishment is warm.

Cool place

By David K |

NYC cool, clever and good eats. Eggs over easy on top of southern fried chicken and waffles. They offer more healthy fare as well. Loved it!

Really good

By Pau P |

Really good food, everything was just perfectly cook, combined with great service and atmosphere. Highly recommended

Cozy atmosphere with excellent food

By Donna M |

We tried several of the small plates to include the caramelized brussels sprouts, short rib sliders, philly cheese steak spring rolls and the potato gnocchi. I also tried the Angel Hair Pasta with a pink vodka sauce entree. We loved everything. I liked that they had the small plates so you could try a little bit of everything they offer. You won't be disappointed with this choice of a restaurant to dine in. The atmosphere is very cozy although the tables are close together just like any NYC restaurant. The service was great as well.

Worth staying up late for

By Kelliejane1 |

A phenomenal late night meal. I had the lamb shank with pumpkin gnocchi and my friend had the muscles. It was perfectly accompanied by suggested wines. We also took up the recommendation for the Philly Cheese Steak spring roles. I'd never have tried that unless recommended by so many people.

Brilliant

By jaydale |

We visited on our first night in NY after a long journey in. We picked this because it was local, had good reviews & knew that we would be eating earlier than usual, so it would work despite a no bookings for 2 policy. Cannot fault the place, from the moment we walked in it had a buzz feel to it, the welcome was great, our server was helpful & friendly. The food was perfect for us. It was so good we popped in a couple of nights for drinks & returned also for another meal.the menu isn't extensive but there are great varied choices. We are sure to return on future visits & gave already recommended to friends.

Great burger, pretty quiet on weekdays

By Heather S |

Burger was great. Not terribly busy on the week nights. Beer selection is lackluster. Don't expect anything other than horrid domestic bud light etc. Good happy hour specials. Would definitely go back.

Very tasty food and lively atmosphere

By Mary M |

A great find in an area where there are not too many good dining options. Modern American fare offerings as mainly small plates, but large plate entrees also. The small plates are very generous...not like the tiny little plates you sometimes get. The prices are very reasonable for what you get. Great place for a group. They only take reservations for parties of 4+. Lively atmosphere and the service was good. caramelized brussel sprouts were delicious!

First Stop for a Drink

By K C |

This is a great place to stop and have a drink while in the area. The bartender was super nice and the "house" beer was cold. We did not eat but others said the food here was outstanding. The bar are is nice and large and seats are plentiful.

Still great

By JamesMc44 |

In NYC in Jan 14 and decided to go back to Cask as always enjoyed it. Was not disappointed still a really nice crowd in a great part of town The Blood Orange and chilli Margarita is still by far the best Margarita i have ever tasted I look forward to popping in for one next time I'm in NY

Like a great local pub.

By NickyBiscuit |

On a 5 day trip this is the only place we went to twice, one evening and then for Sunday brunch. Loved it!

Hidden Gem

By Janet L |

We found this awesome little spot by luck! Food was awesome and service very good. The Blood Orange Jalapeño Margaritas were the best ever! Everything was delicious.

Cozy dinner on freezing night

By jheals |

Murray Hill can be a tough place to find a good restaurant. We recently tried Cask Bar + Kitchen as it was close to the NJ ferry and it was so cold out we couldn't venture much further! The place is great-nice bar, warm, cozy wooden booths. Definitely a hipster element but not so much we felt out of place. The french syrah grenache blend by the glass was the BEST as were the draft selections and fun cocktails (they apparently do pitchers of cocktails for larger tables). We shared lots of small plates and even tried dessert. Pulled pork BBQ flatbread & mac and cheese were standouts. This place is going into the regular rotation-try it!

Good late night spot!

By Vjay S |

Came here late on a Saturday night and glad they're open till 4, their kitchen closes around 2 though. Got their wings and lamb nachos. The wings are amazing and a must try if you come here. I didn't find the lamb nachos that good compared to the other reviews, I don't know if it's just that lamb doesn't go well with nachos or something else. In spite of that, their take on nacho chips is interesting and I'd rather just eat the chips by itself. Service and drinks were pretty good. Overall, 3.5 stars and great late night spot if in the area.

Great Food. Excellent Service. Wonderful Experience at Cask for our Corporate Event

By Bryan M |

Wanted to give a HUGE thanks to the entire team at Cask - Elaine, Steph, Sinead, and Ali for providing a wonderful event for our team. We partnered with Cask to rent out their cellar for a 25-person company event in September. The food was incredible, and the service was even better. It's a great space to host an event and their team made it so easy to pick out great food/drink options. We are very grateful to everyone at Cask for providing such a welcoming environment. We will definitely be back - A+ all around.

A great hideaway in Murray Hill

By _glbetrkkr_ |

Good happy hour places are often difficult to find in New York because either they a) only last until 7 pm or b) really loud. Fortunately, the above doesn't apply to Cask Bar. It's such a charming and cosy place. Design-wise there is exposed bring, wooden beams, low incandescent lighting, wooden benches. It's quite rustic which provides for a very nice setting. The main floor houses the dining area (however you can still get happy hour here) and downstairs is lounge space (albeit smaller). Happy hour lasts until 8 pm and it's $5 draft beers, $7 sangrias, selected cocktails and wines. If you're a fan of luxurious truffle, Cask offers several dishes to whet your appetite. Beet salad: spinach, roasted beets, goat cheese drizzled with yummy truffle. Mushroom flatbread: oven-baked flat bread, sauteed crimini mushrooms with more intoxicating truffle. If there are a group of you, opt for the five-cheese plate. It comes with a side of fig jam to spread over crackers and cheese. It's an unexpected place in Murray Hill but really worth the visit.

Cozy atmosphere and good food

By KLeeS |

My husband, son and I went to Cask the other day while visiting NYC. We discovered it while looking on Yelp. The ambiance was very nice--soft lighting with lots of candles. We ordered a salad, sweet potato gnocchi, the tuna sandwich and duck spring rolls which were good. I would describe the food as above average. Our meal was served quickly and the service was good. They have a really good beer selection which was a nice surprise. Since there are so many other restaurants in NYC, I probably wouldn't return on another trip.

Fantastic Experience

By Joski69 |

Organized a business meal here based on reviews while visiting NYC. Our guests were running late but they offered to seat us as well as a cocktail and appetizer while we waited. Typically restaurants won't seat you until everyone arrives and they often "bump" your reservation if you are late. This was a pleasant surprise. Our server was awesome - cordial, professional, honest recommendations and so fast! Never waited more than a couple of minutes for drinks in a packed bar. Food was very good although some dishes stood out more than others. We didn't care of the nachos but loved the sliders and meatballs. All in all it was a great unrushed experience in a cool atmosphere with reasonable prices and perfect service. Don't hesitate.

A great bar and an even better restaurant

By Tom M |

Was staying just round the block while on vacation, had researched this as a bar to visit. The Cask has a great Craft ale list. Went in with my fiance for a meal, enjoyed it enough to go back twice in the 8 days we stayed in NYC. The food is great and the staff give incredible service and are great characters If you are going for a meal it is worth noting it can appear full and busy from outside but that is the bar part and the restaurant is past this at the back. Try the Meatball small plate, absolutely delicious.

Great place for a party!

By K27PAULR |

We had a birthday party here on the 30th May. The private bar downstairs was the perfect size for our 40+ guests. The food was excellent and the service from the entire team was amazing. We had such a great time we stayed until 2am, Elaine your team are a credit to you. P&M

Great little restaurant.

By John P |

Very cozy little restaurant near the empire state. really enjoyed my burger and the beer and ciders they had. Very nice cozy atmosphere and friendly staff. Recommended

Mmmmm Mmmmmm Mmmmmmmm!!!!!

By roamifiwant2 |

My boyfriend and I were in the area, looking for another restaurant that he had been referred to. We couldn't find it, and ended up at Cask by chance. The place was packed! (that was the first good sign!). It's a rather small restaurant, but the hostess managed to find a table from the bar for us. The bar has a great selection of beers and wines. Since we were going to order dinner, we received a tray with very delicious bread! My boyfriend is vegetarian but he did find options. I ordered the skirt steak. IT WAS THE BEST SKIRT STEAK I'VE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE! I still have dreams about it! I highly recommend this restaurant and would go back the first chance I get!

Excellent food in the neighborhood

By jpbandsvk |

We were looking for a place to eat in the neighborhood and didn't think there were any good options. But CASK came thru! The food is excellent. Great pork chop! The only complaint is that this place is extremely loud -conversation was difficult.

Great food and atmosphere!

By ireland2010Colorado |

We ate at Cask early on a Friday night and it was a very popular place. Very friendly staff (we were there quite awhile and the service never faltered even though they were very busy!), the olive oil for dipping the bread was exceptional and the rest of the meal was great, too (striped sea bass!).

NYE in NY

By BarryD09 |

Cask is exactly what our group of 6 wanted to experience before a big NYE night on the tiles. Service and attention from the staff was absolutely incredible. We were served so well from the moment we arrived. I can describe what our group had as tapas with an American twist on it. Our server knew the whole menu inside out and could recommend some really good dishes to share when we really couldn't decide between us. The beer selection was really good and also the liquor was too, from what I am told. All in all a really excellent experience and could not recommend it any higher! Will definitely revisit when we get back to NY again

Yum

I missed Happy Hour that ended at 8pm but the dinner and full priced drinks were good. My friends and I ordered all the flatbreads, Mac and cheese, lamb nachos and short rib sliders. Nothing disappointed. Between the three flatbreads the hanger stake was the best followed buy the wild mushrooms. The service was good and they even allowed us to sit with one person missing from our party (a rarity in NYC). I will visit again for the food and drinks.

Wine bar review - OK

By FuzzyBeaver |

This is a wine bar only review: We stopped for a few glasses of wine. They have an OK but not great set of wines by the glass. The wines we ordered were OK but pricey. Very busy and fairly noisy. Service was fine. I would not go out of my way to go back.

Great ambiance and lovely staff

By Cerys P |

We loved this place, we had delicious food and the wine I had was really nice. This place seemed to attract a mix of local and tourists and everyone looked like they were having fun. We had a bit of trouble when we came to pay due to our bank blocking our card and the staff were lovely about it. My husband had to go and find a cash machine and the manager offered me a free glass of wine whilst I was waiting. We would have loved to have visited again but ran out of time.

Happiest Hour

By Miata_Foxy |

We were looking for a good place to do happy hour after arriving in New York following a four-hour flight. We wandered in to Cask Bar around 5:30 on a Monday afternoon and were immediately impressed with the decor. It really is lovely and interesting. Our server, Dana, was really wonderful, and very knowledgeable. We both ordered a jalapeño infused margarita, I believe it's a specialty, and it was so delicious I really had to pace myself. The surroundings were so welcoming and comfortable that we ordered our appetizers in stages so that we could soak up the ambiance. We shared the Philly Cheese Spring Rolls and the Short Rib Sliders and couldn't decide which we loved more. Unfortunately, we didn't save room for dessert because they all looked really tempting. For a spur of the moment experience, we were really pleased and will definitely visit again the next time we find ourselves in NYC.

Delicious food, great service

Wonderful local restaurant with creative and delicious menu. The staff was friendly. The restaurant was warm and cozy.

Nice Place

By Daniel V |

The food was really good. I had the roast chicken. The portions are a bit small. Nice decor. Great service. Even though it was Friday night, they did not rush us.

Great food and drinks and terrific service.

By coryfg |

Came to town for work, it was freezing outside and I was looking for a place close and open. I found this place on Yelp and glad I did. I sat at the bar and both bartenders were very friendly and helpful. To eat, I had the mussels to start. I've been to several places where they are over cooked, but these were perfectly steamed and the broth was delicious. Following the mussels, I had the steak and blue cheese flatbread which was also very good. This is a great place to go.

Chef driven...and that's all I care about

By Christineabella |

We walked in right when they opened...it was the perfect time to go...it was cool, it was empty, the chef was fresh, and we were the first table for the waiter that night. It was a pleasure have a waiter who understands service and directs you to the right items on the menu. Thanks mustache guy... We ordered the cauliflower with the date puree, the brussel sprouts with the mustard sauce...TWICE...so, so good!!! The truffle mac and cheese, a mushroom flatbread (meh) and the atlantic salmon... Every bite was delicious. The salmon was cooked to perfection. This is what restaurant should be when it is chef driven. You can see that they care about every bite. The only thing to order for dessert there is the ice cream from Brooklyn. We ordered two desserts with ice cream on top and what was put underneath wasn't worth a damn. (yes, the brownie and the apple "granola bar" tart were appalling) Overall, LOVED IT!

Great evening - shame about the Guinness!

By anorth52 |

Good ambience, very friendly staff, very good wine but it was the worst pint of Guinness I have had in New York. The house whiskey was good though and served to get rid of the taste of the Guinness!!

Good Spot After Work

By 1000islandsdude |

Kinda cool old school bar with fresh oysters for happy hour, 1$. Good stop in bar for after work drinks with colleagues to unwind. The gin martini had too much ice in it and other stuff floating in it to be excellent, the the bartender was trying to be too creative. Otherwise an enjoyable experience.

Great ambiance

By Abigail W |

We had a girls weekend in NYC and went to Cask after a day of shopping. The waitstaff was very friendly. We ordered a few small plates and had wine. Very reasonable for NYC. I would definitely go back.

Warm atmosphere makes up for average food

By copperbottom |

Went here on a week night. Very busy. Good vibe and helpful staff. Service was quick but food didn't live up to other reviewers who races about it. Nachos with lamb - not enough lamb and nachos whilst tasty, were greasy and more of the deep fried type. Mussels were ok but most fallen out of their shells and tiny. Slider burgers not so special and meat was kinda mashes up. Brussels were tasty and prob the best dish. Good beer selection. My sauvignon blanc was one of the least memorable. May go back on a winters eve but not a summer place and if only the food was delivered with a little more love. 3.5 stars

Awesome in Midtown

By rugslanger |

Cask is one of those rare places that make you want to be a regular after one visit. The food is somewhat eclectic, but everything is out of this world. I've had three things in four trips...their signature burger, the pork chop, and the chicken pot pie. I had the pot pie twice. Try it and you'll see why! They also know how to mix a drink and they have a good beer selection. All in, the energy in Cask is really good and the place gives off a very home away from home vibe. Ask for Nastacia...she is one of the most radiant people you will ever meet and she, along with the other staff, make Cask a special place in midtown.

I had high expectations, but they weren’t met.

By JetteEatsDrinksandTraVels |

This place is very small and on a crowded night it can take you at least 20 minutes from the front door to the hostess stand. Once in the main dining area you feel a sense of relief that your not down at the bar haggling over a seat. The dining area is dimly lit and is very cozy which we really liked. There were also cute floral decorations hanging from the ceiling as we went around Valentine’s Day. We ordered one of each thing from the bar bites menu. The wait time was reasonable considering that we went on a Saturday night and the place was packed. The food came and we were all excited with anticipation but the food was average at best. The Korean wings were very good but I expected more from the rest of the order especially the macaroni and cheese and the lamb nachos. Overall I didn’t leave with a sense of being satisfied or pleased with what we ordered. I tried to make myself feel better by ordering dessert because dessert makes everything better.. wrong! The dessert was awful. Luckily they were accommodating when informed of our concerns. Will not be making another go of this.

Lovely Food

By Ali097 |

Food here is lovely and very reasonable priced. No need to prebook table - Highly recommend this place

Great food, great atmosphere

By Rainer1908 |

When you get in during happy hour, you have to wrestle your way past the bar to the dining area, but that's a small price to pay for the great atmosphere and excellent food. It's a little noisy, bordering on "too", but that doesn't detract from the interesting and well executed menu. The Fisherman's Stew is a must try!

Awesome for happy hour

By Airmax617 |

Came here for happy hour with a friend. Had their house pilsner and lamb nachos - both awesome. Great atmosphere and quick, attentive customer service. Not busy on Monday late afternoon.

Good drinks and snacks

By nycamy2018 |

Bartender was attentive and pleasant. Lamb nachos were good. Happy hour week days till 7pm. Scammers have become more common are the area (ask you to buy a drink for payment via Venmo), but the bartender recognized the scam and refused to serve. Thank you!

Wonderful Find

By APen2014 |

We wanted to eat close to our apartment and found this little place. The was quite a long wait for a table but we didn't mind so we grabbed some cocktails. The wait was so worth it. My partner had the steak which he recommends and I had the mussels. You have to try the Philly cheese steak spring rolls!

Cool Place for Drinks

By Heather Crowley |

We dropped by here after getting some dinner at 2nd Avenue Deli. Decorated very nicely for the holiday with lovely lights. Just got a cocktail and a cider. Sat at the bar, got quick service. Check it out if you are in the area.

Great Beer Selction and Food

By Shadow310 |

Great selection of bottled beer and beer on tap. The menu even provides the taste characteristics for each beer which is definitely a plus. The drinking water is provided to the tables in a large flip-top bottle however, our water was room temperature, not cold at all. Not a huge food menu but more than adequate. I ordered the Truffle Mac n Cheese and the Kobe beef sliders. The mac n cheese was served piping hot and was delicious. The three beef sliders were cooked just the way I ordered and served on a plank. Unfortunately, the pepperjack cheese and onion marmalade on the sliders overpowered the taste of the beef. My wife enjoyed her Sweet Potato Gnocchi which was served in a light basil cream sauce. The reclaimed wood floor and rough cut wood shelves along with the extensive candlelight make for an inviting atmosphere. The one drawback is that the tables are much too close together. We had to slide our table over to allow a lady at the neighboring table to get up. If you are looking for a great beer selection and good food in a quiet atmosphere then you might want to give Cask a try.

Amazing Place, but Good Luck Getting In - Can't blame them for being busy!

By cmcnicol |

Cask is a neighborhood favorite of mine. The food is always creative and fantastic while the cocktails and drink options are equally amazing. The buffalo lamb nachos are a big favorite of mine and I never leave without a spicy blood orange margarita. If it were up to me, I would come here every night since I live close by, but it really is pretty tough to get into anytime after 7pm. I've never really quite figured out if they take reservations or not - I think they do, but only for groups of 4 or 6+ people. I suggest absolutely not skipping this place if you're in the area, but definitely give yourself an hour...or two...to hang at the bar and enjoy some great cocktails before expecting to be seated. Unless you're lucky!

Best Food Tasted in a Beer Pub

By StuartSussex |

Cask was chosen as a venue largely from beer links. It has cask beer on as the name suggests. The pub is near Empire State Building, just a few streets down East of 5th Avenue. Two things stood out ... - Quality of food. This is by no means a standard pub. It serves some really good quality food & could hold its own in any smart restaurant. - Price of beer, which maybe reflects the former. $12 did seem a bit high as competion was half or less even for similar cask beer. I would return, mainly driven by food quality.

Worth the wait

By NYFoodDude |

I hadn't heard of Cask before. I am a long time NYer, but this one never hit my radar screen. Was looking for a new place to go in the neighborhood so looked on line, and found Cask. The review were positive, so decided to give it a try. Crowded, no reservations for small parties, small bar. But we decided to wait for a table. And it was worth it. Great and large selection of tap and bottle beers. We ordered a selection of appetizers and shared an entree (pre movie dinner). The menu was not large, but we found some intereseting items. All were well prepared and enjoyable. I will definitely go back, not just when I'm in the neighborhood but as a destination. Go with a party of 4 or more, and grab a reservation.

Fantastic bar and restaurant.food was great nice music playing and felt very cosy. Would definitely recommend visiting. Elaine gave us an amazing night even gave my husband a dessert with a little candle in it 😍 thanks elaine and all your staff.

Good food, good beer

By Mark B |

Clean but dark — definitely a spot to meet friends at. Both the salmon and steak pie were good, and the service was friends and helpful. Add a decent beer selection, and you have the making of a great evening.

This is the go-to bar for this neighborhood.

By V M |

We stopped by after dinner at S'Mac and I quickly put this bar on my list of favorites. They offer a variety of specialty drinks, and my favorite was the Cask Old Fashioned. Their unique blend of Templeton Rye, orange bitters, augusta, simple syrup, muddled orange & cherry was absolutely amazing. The bartender was truly an artist. While most specialty cocktails run around $12, I feel it was very reasonable.

Putting the Happy in Happy Hour

By V M |

The lighting and decor are welcoming. They run a happy hour where some cocktails are $7. I went for the Cask Old Fashioned which is made with rye. It was not on HH but it was still well worth it. Most regular cocktails are $12. The bartender was friendly. The bathrooms are clean but downstairs. They have a downstairs bar that looked booked. The only drawback is the stairwell downstairs stinks like cat pee.

Great stop for drinks with friends.

By KMHvaca |

Stopped at Cask Bar before our planned lunch/dinner on a Saturday. Really accomodating even though we were not going to eat there. Great set of cocktails, beers and wines on the menu. Really good Sazerac cocktail, red and white wines. Would definitely stop again.

Great spot for brunch

By Beasle13 |

Randomly walked in on a Sunday around noon. There weren't any tables available right that second but the hostess informed us some people were paying and they would be free soon. She was very friendly. We were seated in less than 10 minutes and our food came out very quickly, especially considering how crowded it way. I got an omelets, home fries and a Bloody Mary, all of which were delicious. My husband got the hangover sandwich were was also good. Our servers were constantly refilling our water, which was nice. The food was affordable. Its small and loud, but hey its NYC. We would definitely go back.

Fun Place with Friends

By Eileen C |

We had a great "catch up" dinner with our daughter and son-in-law here recently. It had a fun, friendly neighborhood vibe to it, which in New York, is nice to find. Food and service were both very good, with a nice beer and wine selection, too. Recommend this as a great place for a night out with friends.

Ol' reliable for my group of girlfriends

By needtotravel12345 |

One of our girls dinner go-to spots. Only have been here for dinner during the week and always try to take advantage of their happy hour which is from 4-8 pm weekdays. $5 beer, $6 wine, $7 sangria / select drinks. it gets really crowded by about 7-730 and there is always a wait for dinner table. if you are planning to eat, they will seat you either in the back area upstairs or downtairs near the second bar. we usually end up downstairs which is nice and cozy (in a dark, dungeon-like way). food here is good- nothing stands out as amazing, but really solid and reasonably priced items. Some of my favs: french onion soup, mussels (beer and blue cheese sauce), and the royale burger with fries. the flatbreads are also good to share with a group. overall a good choice and one of our group's ol' reliables!

Solid Spot For Cocktails

By JeremyKrantz |

Located a short walk away from Grand Central Station, the Cask Bar + Kitchen was a pitstop that my girlfriend and I made before catching a train back to White Plains as our day exploring NYC came to an end. We discovered this spot randomly using the Yelp mobile app and the reviews drew our interest enough to catch a cab to the Murray Hill area and proceed there for a quick drink. Upon entering the place we immediately fell in love with the decor and atmosphere. It's dimly lit, it's simple but the wooden tones and the candles are amazing and give the place a great feel. There's the long bar at the front of the house and the back serves as the dining area. The woman behind the bar immediately greeted us and gave us a couple of cocktail lists. After perusing through it, I settled on the bourbon sage smash cocktail ($11) which sounded both unique and awesome, especially on a warm day. The combination of sage with the bourbon is unlike anything I had seen before - every other smash I've had featured mint. It came out pretty good and soon enough I ordered up round two which was a Jalapeño margarita ($10) which I didn't like nearly as much, mostly because I found it to be too hot for my taste. Usually I can handle Jalapeño but this one kicked my butt. Since it was a late afternoon, early evening, the place wasn't busy at all. There were no dinners present and only another 3-4 people at the bar, on the other hand. Somehow the woman behind the bar decided to hang out directly across from us despite her having plenty of other room to settle which we found a bit annoying since we were trying to have a little drink date. But that aside, she was friendly and seemed to be pretty comfortable with the cocktail list and the execution of the drinks. The girlfriend also enjoyed her drinks and the atmosphere. All in all this place is a solid spot for drinks which makes a good use of their spirits and their house-made infusions. They use a creative flair to them and their regular menu looks inciting enough that I'd like to maybe go there for a meal at some point. The atmosphere made for a lovely experience though, that's for sure. Oh and unless my memory fails me, there was no television in sight which was another great thing, especially when going there on a date.

Good food and atmosphere

By Mark F |

This is a good place to eat on a solo dinner night while traveling. Cask has an upstairs bar and table dining as well as a downstairs bar and more table dining. The menu is sort of updated American food. So, think steaks, burgers, fish, pastas with a more sophiscticated twist, like lamb meat and goat cheese. I started with Philly cheese steak spring rolls and then had a lamb burger ("The Wooly"). Steak and cheese spring rolls sound strange and that's why I had to have them. They were awesome! Served piping hot and sliced at an angle, they're accompanied by a really spicy dipping sauce and a bit of mayo that helps tame the heat from the sauce. The Wooly burger with goat cheese was also very good, except that I thought the bun was a bit too big. All-in-all, a great find that I'd surely recommend.

Decent place for dinner and drinks, close to ferry terminal and relatively close to Penn Station

By Matthew F |

I have been going to this place with some regularity over the past three months for work travel. It's a 20 minute walk from Penn Station enroute to the E 34th Street ferry terminal. The place is a pretty good size with seating on two floors. The drinks are good and the food has been dish dependent. I tried the Chicken Pot pie and it was terrible. Very bland, could not add enough salt to derive some flavor, etc. I recently tried the Cavatelli pasta dish and it was excellent. I return in a few weeks and will certainly get this dish again for dinner.

Locals' place

Small Murray Hill restaurant. Eclectic, creative menu. Above average food quality. Seems to be a popular meeting place for groups. Relaxed, dark decor. Excellent mixed drink and beer menus.

Great dining experience!

By MCK50 |

Three of us enjoyed a great impromptu dinner at Cask on Dec 29, 2012. 'Kayla' our server was over-the-top...she was extremely friendly & attentive. I would HIGHLY recommend the light, spicy Butternut Squash Soup with Roasted Marshmallows...yes, Marshmallows! Sounds weird but tastes fantastic. The decor and ambiance is lovely, has a warm inviting atmosphere. Service was very fast and efficient...the owner was even touring around the restaurant all evening ensuring the patrons were enjoying their meals, a nice touch. Look forward to returning to Cask in the future! Happy New Year!

Great find in NYC.

By Frankenbarb |

No idea where to eat dinner and found Cask on Trip Advisor. What a great find. Terrific and interesting menu and great service. A tad noisy but our table towards the back was quiet enough for our party including our year old granddaughter.

Brunch

By Jessica G |

We were a party of 7 arriving in the pouring rain. Luckily we had a reservation as this place was hopping! We orders a pitcher of blood orange mimosas which were ridiculously delicious. We had great service & amazing food. We ordered several courses & kept adding things because everything was so outstanding! A very delightful find! I'll definitely go back & would recommend to anyone! We had 2 kids with us too & they loved it! The bag of hot muffins is a great touch!

Great New Year's Eve!!

By travellingfamily05 |

Our family celebrated New Year's Eve at this restaurant and it was a fabulous experience. We made reservations earlier in the month which consisted of filling out a form and providing a credit card number to hold the reservation. All was done by email. They had their regular menu as well as some special's for NYE. The food was outstanding. They also had DJ which played great tunes, and provided a champagne toast at midnight. People even danced some around the tables. The place was full but not too crowded. The service was also excellent!

Great small plates for sharing

By Constance C |

Wonderful little bar. Gets very crowded (Happy Hour lasts until 8 pm). Lots of small plates and flatbreads to share. Highlights: gnocchi, Mac and cheese, grilled avocado. The carnivores among us enjoyed the bacon and short ribs. I will return!

Great food, service and ambiance

By 687theresal |

The food was excellent! Arrived on a Friday without a rez and was told it would be 20 - 30 mins wait for a table for 4. After a wait of 3 mins our table was ready. It was weird and then we had awkward bar bill problem but they solved it. The crab cakes were excellent, same for brussel spout side dish. All four of us loved it here, great atmosphere, defn go back!

NYC GEM!

By MaryEllenL |

We had a family reunion of sorts and this was our first meeting place with some family. My husband and I arrived very early and we had a few of the small plates in the upstairs restaurant area, which is warm and cozy. The decor is welcoming and it was the perfect NYC atmosphere. There were so many fabulous things on the menu that it was hard to decide what to eat. The menu was innovative and fun. The brussel sprouts were the best I had ever eaten. After eating, we went downstairs to the bar area (there is a bar upstairs also) and met up with our family. We had a large, lively group and the servers were fun and attentive. Several from our group ordered food and those dishes looked amazing also. We spent several hours there and had much fun eating, drinking and socializing. I would certainly go back to this restaurant (if I lived in NY) as there were many dishes I would like to try. I would absolutely recommend this place. This is a hidden NY gem and a real find! I wish there was a place like this nearby where I live!

Cool and Hip Vibe but Local Feel

By Linda C Frazier |

So the restaurant/bar is very cool and hip but still feels very local. The bartender ken was great, couldn’t have been more attentive and seemed very knowledgeable. I like the vibe!! Bartender recommended the happy hour wine - and seeing my reluctance- offered a taste. It was quite good. I had the salmon for dinner. It tasted fresh and was light. Meal wasn’t heavy at all. Just what I wanted. Kinda. But the cous cous that came with it could not have been been more dull and flavorless. Suggestion to chef: throw in some mango, pineapple, almonds. Something! The roasted peppers on top don’t do it. Just a thought...

Excellent Food and service in this beautiful Restaurant

By GG |

I was on vacation in New York and went along to this Restaurant last week with my two sister's and we had the most beautiful meal. The food was the nicest we had eaten in a long time and reasonabley priced. The service was excellent and a special thank-you to Laura who served us through out the evening, she could not have done more for us. Would definately go back.

Not very impressed

By Claudia H |

Dined here with my daughter for lunch while in New York City. This came very highly recommended , but we were not very impressed at all. The place is very quaint, and very pretty on the outside. There is a bar area where you can drink and dine as well. Tables are very small and very close to each other, quite typical of new york restaurants. None of the dishes we ordered were good and the service was horrible. The orders came after such a long time. Avocado toast was made of chunky pieces of avocado instead of a finer more spreadable form. The lamb nachos were tasteless and the chips they used were not the usual tortilla chips, it had an extremely oily taste . The fried pickles were not as good either. Aside from the ambiance nothing else was good about this place. I would skip it altogether. We did not need to get reservations , we just walked in.

A great find!

By oojaded26 |

We went on the reccomendation of my brother-in-law, who happens to live nearby. We started with drinks and I LOVED my drink, which I happened to order on a whim- St. Murray. It was excellent. We ordered the "small plates" and we were really impressed with the philly cheese steak order, kobe sliders, and pot o' mussles- which were excellent. The prices are definitely NYC standard but with the food and drinks being excellect, we will definitely return.

Great food and good spot for drinks

By Samantha S |

The service is pretty average, though the food is excellent and the atmosphere is really cool. Definitely worth a visit if you get the chance, though I wouldn't say it is a must-see spot necessarily. We did go back a second time for drinks while we were in the city.

Visited on the first night of are 5 day break and booked well before as read on adviser how good this place was. It was a Thursday eve about 7.30 and the place was packed with drinkers and diners. We worked are way to the pack off the pub were thankfully are table was awaiting. Staff were pleasant and menu was good and food was not to technical which is the best way. Went for a pasta dish and it was of a really high standard, taste, temp and flavour were superb. Regards to staff and manager would recommend to anyone visiting Newyork city midtown looking for a quality night out.

We love this place!

By Michelle Kramer-Fitzgerald |

Went to NYC for a quick holiday weekend, and found Cask Bar+Kitchen through Trip Advisor. We were looking for a place that with a nice bar, good food, not super-loud and fun. We got it all and more at Cask. It's in a lovely neighborhood, and the interior feels like a cozy, warm place to enjoy on any night. There were only 2 of us, so I couldn't reserve on Open Table; when we arrived, our hostess said it would be a 45-minute wait (on a Monday). However, we found seats at the bar. The bartender was super nice, knowledgeable and fun. We ordered drinks (nice beer & wine list) and an app, and didn't even need the 45-minute wait....ushered to our table after about 20 minutes. We had a wonderful waitress (Shauna) who not only gave us great suggestions from the menu, she was engaging, attentive and kept our glasses full. One of the best waitstaff I've had in a loooong time...thanks Shauna for making our night that much better. Now, the food....YUMMMM!!! I had the paella on Shauna's advice and it did not disappoint; hubby got the lamb shank, which was also looked impressive (although I don't eat lamb). Excellent appetizer of Brussels sprouts with chorizo, too! So glad we picked this place and we'll definitely be back! The main dining room is a little loud and the tables very close together, but the space is so inviting, we didn't mind.

Just Great

By Steve G |

Ok, so the family are in NYC, we are having a great time, but the clothes need to be washed, and just down the road from the laundromat is CASK. 2nd visit actually. Only had a beer or three, but the atmosphere is sensational. The food smells incredible and the service is second to none.

Disappointing dinner

By Linda G |

Spending a long weekend in NYC at the end of January 2017 and went to Cask for dinner. They don't accept reservations for less than 6 people so we went hoping for a table. It was early on a Saturday evening around 6:30 but it was full. The hostess seated us at a long communal table and informed us we had to be gone by 8:00 as the table was reserved, no problem it was only 6:30. Within minutes of sitting down two, two person tables opened up but neither was offered to us. We waited about 10 minutes before our waiter came and we ordered drinks. The food was okay, except I ordered a salad that was suppose to have walnuts and I think apples (or maybe pears), no walnuts and one thin slice of apple. I asked for the walnuts and they were brought in a small bowl. The rest of the meal was forgettable. The restaurant has a cozy feel, the bar was in the front and was completely full. It was really, really loud hard to even have a conversation. Overall, it was okay.

Great bar & food

By Sapphire Ed |

Five of us stopped in Cask for a few tap beers and appetizers before attending my cousin Jerry’s glee club concert tonight. Our waiter, Damon, was great. We arrived at different times and had a deadline on leaving and he just went with the flow. The food was all delicious. The service top notch and the bill was palatable! I highly recommend Cask.

Found this great bar on our last night

By LisaS1968 |

Found this great bar on our last night of our 5 night stay - why does that always happen?!! Had a lovely meal (Bacon burger & fries, Steak & fries - beautifully cooked) and cocktails were fabulous. We came back the following day for our "last supper" before heading to JFK Airport and had the lamb nachos and chicken wings with another fab Grapefruit Mojito. Great ambience, staff, drinks and food and I would happily 100% recommend this bar and restaurant to others.

Exceptional Service, Aura AND Food

By JcTjr |

I have to say that cask continues to do an unbelievable job both with service, food, & absolutely, atmosphere! As an interior designer, it is crucial to not only get the obvious components of a restaurant right but I feel it is important to capture an aura as well. Cask does this 50-fold. I thoroughly enjoy sitting downstairs at the bottom bar....it just has a speak-easy kind of feel. The bartenders have always been exceptional and friendly and very knowledgeable of their products. Tonight was no exception. I had the service of DARA who was extremely friendly, very accommodating, and engaging the entire time I was there. As I was dining alone, that is always very welcoming! That is just the general feel of the place. I was greeted as usual by a friendly hostess. I sat and had a hoppy craft beer....Followed by a set of small plates. I started with the fried pickles which are exceptional here. I followed that with grilled octopus & tuna tartare small plates. The food is seriously unbelievably good. It is also quite creative. I finished things off with a cask beer from the upstairs bar. It is an acquired taste which I have definitely acquired and Cask absolutely gets it right. The prices are extremely reasonable for the city and you truly leave there feeling like you just left your best friend's home. It is a don't miss when in the city and, if you're at the New York Design Center, it is literally around the corner.

We had to wait forty-five minutes to be seated as they don't take bookings for less than 4 people-that was no problem as we waited at the bar and tried some excellent cocktails. The food that came was delicious, the waiting staff and the bar tenders were great and the food wasnt expensive. Will go back! (cocktails were strong so i ended up a mess-beware!)

Eclectic/Fun Atmosphere

The wait staff was great. Unfortunately no happy hour on Sundays :( Burgers were good. Hanger Steak was just okay. Salmon was okay, not great but okay. Short ribs you could cut with a spoon - needed more flavour they were bland - the brussel sprouts were under cooked and hard to eat, mashed potatoes were good. The lamb nachos - not what we were expecting - good, gamey lamb flavour - would recommend to share not have as a meal - I think you would get tired of the taste Donuts for dessert - wonderful - not a fan of the chocolate ones - perhaps a higher quality of chocolate - next time I would ask if we could have the apple and vanilla only.
