What a beautiful roof top restaurant

By Traveller & Foodie |

I came here to eat some Spanish Tapas. This restaurant is on the 21st floor of the AC Hotel in Times Square. The views on a clear night are absolutely stunning. This is a very nice place to have some food and drinks with friends or family. I had their famous avocado toast with the potatoes and both were very lovely. It is an open terrace with chairs and couches, very relaxing and comfortable on a nice evening. I was happy I came up to experience this restaurant on a nice fall night in New York City. I highly recommend. It is an upscale restaurant.

Lovely rooftop bar

By Anna Z |

We were here on a beautiful August evening and it was perfect. Nice service, varied menu and beautiful view of the Empire State Building. Came here because we could see the outdoor seating from our hotel over on 42nd street and it looked interesting. Beyond interesting, it really was lovely and we will be back in our next trip to NY.

Drinks on Rooftop NYC

By Nina T |

Cozy and Chic Rooftop lounge. Has a cozy section then also a bigger area opening up to the rooftop. Does not feel congested like others I have been too. Great drinks and apps. New York prices. A pit stop before I take the bus at port authority to NJ. Great location and has a good view. Recommend the truffle fries.

Not great

By ppjthomas |

We booked a table online and they emailed us back asking if we had any special requests. I said I was gluten free and heard nothing back. We arrived and waited for the hostess to seat us. She barely spoke to us and looked at us like we were something on her shoe. When we sat down I asked the waitress about gluten free and she said they didn’t have anything so I just had a salad. The views are amazing but unfortunately we were unable to enjoy them due to the couple next to us eating the faces off each other. She was sat on his knee licking his face. The tables are very close together which we understood as bars etc want to use as much space as possible but we we’re inches from their table trying to eat. If we’d wanted to watch a porn show we’d have stayed at our hotel to watch it. Whilst I understand this is not the bars fault a quiet word in their ear maybe? We we’re not able to move to another table as the place was packed. We did manage to get outside to take in the spectacular views but when we come back to New York we won’t be returning here as the food was just ok and the service not great

Get the special gin& tonic

Valentine’s Day fun!

By Ayo A |

I give it a 5 in ambience and service. For drinks, we ordered a Manhattan and a mojito. For appetizers, we had the ahi tuna tartar on toast and garlic fries. My husband LOVED the Manhattan and everything was good. The fries had what tasted like Old Bay seasoning. The only complaint- our fries were just warm and not hot. Ahi tuna tartar was good! If you are a drinker, I think you will enjoy You should go when you're in NYC!

Great date or after work bar

By khfl29 |

Enjoyed an early dinner here… went for tapas and drinks and ate inside. The spot is beautiful but cozy. Of the three plates we ordered, only the potatoes were outstanding. The other two were good but not great. Was disappointed the food and drink menu was limited, especially since the other Spanish restaurant in the building was more expansive. Also our server was not particularly attentive.

Miserable service

By tek391 |

The location is the rooftop of the AC Hotel, Marriott chain, Times Square, New York City. Rooftops in a city of skyscrapers depend on the height of the top floor. This is alright but nothing special. The thing that made this visit totally a waste of time is the huge delay in serving three beers in a bar that was relatively empty. Level of service: terrible Quality of service: terrible Chance of my return: terribly zero And another point to note; on asking at the hotel reception directions for their rooftop bar, I was met with the laziest rudest and most unprofessional disdain ever. There was no queue and they were not overworked but I was interrupting their ... work? Summary: avoid like the plague

Don’t bother

By Kaia A |

Stayed at the hotell, and therefore we were at the rooftop several times. The ones at the welcome desk are not very welcome. They always have a table available, but if you don’t have a reservation they threat you like you’r nothing. The last night we were there, there were like 6 employees, and we were told to go to the bar to get our drinks! This is so bad in every way. Shame on you.

Wine & Tapas

By TruthfulCriticofFood |

Seating is available both indoors and outdoors. The views are nice at sunset. Service is good. Wine selection is adequate. Tapas are good.

A night to remember at Castell.

By Jesse P |

I just wanted to take a moment to share the wonderful experience my wife and I had at Castell NYC. The rooftop bar was absolutely beautiful, and the atmosphere made for a perfect evening. What truly made our visit special was Lorenzo. My wife was indecisive about her drink selection, so she asked if he could create something special for her—and he absolutely delivered. The cocktail was incredible, exceeding all expectations.

Disaster

By רונית ח |

We ordered in advance a table to celebrate my daughter's 22 birthday. We were sitted at the aisle, very inconvenient. I asked for a better place and I was told That they are all reserved. When I mentioned the fact that we also made a reservation, the lady told us the other seats were wet.... After 5 minutes she was sitting someone else there. Our waitress was rude and impatient. The other waitresses were nice, but she insisted on not letting them help us. Finally, we decided to finish our drinks and go look for another place. Very very disappointed, especially because of the birthday. Don't go to Castell rooftop bar!!!

Enjoyed our Drinks, did not eat there

By Jeff S |

We had a drink here to see the place and talk to the bartenders but did not eat. We would have liked to sit outside but it was full so we stayed at the bar. Very nice place. We would go back

Beautiful rooftop lounge with great view

By Julie L |

My husband, son and I visited this lounge on a recent trip to NYC. The service was wonderful and friendly and the view was amazing. We got there a little after 4:00 in the afternoon and it quickly filled up. We only had an hour or so before our dinner reservations, but it was enough to get a nice drink and enjoy the weather. Good strong drink for all of us, well garnished and tasty! We would go back for sure!

Beautiful view of Empire State Building!

By katarob |

Very nice place, good drinks and service! Has inside and outside areas. Gorgeous view of Empire State Building. Great service!

Everything’s Great on the 21st Floor!

By lw |

Great place for happy hour, small plate dinner, or after dinner drinks/ dessert. On a recent stay to NYC, stopped in for a drink at happy hour and a late night dessert. Each time, the visit was outstanding. The host greeted with a smile, the server was prompt, abs the drinks/ food was delicious. And of course: the rooftop deck! It was great to sit outside to enjoy everything.

Expensive and poor service

By Reslimpan |

Stopped by here for a drink and a snack after a broadway show. The drinks pretty good but very expensive. The service was poor. No plates and napkins were brought out for the shared plate we had order. The waitress handed us the wrong check and it took forever to pay for our visit. On top of everything else, I wasn’t too impressed with the view

Terrible experience

By Nicolas P |

Not coming back. They almost throw the food at you.. terrible service. Had to ask for forks, knives and even napkins. Average food and average drinks.. No views.. Much more better places to go in Manhattan.

Great

By Gino K |

Great rooftop bar in the middle of NYC. Stumbled Upton this bar after seeing an advertisement online on best rooftop bars in NYC. We sat on the corner of the inside tables, with a nice view over the NY times building and could even see Empire State from the corner. Offers a great atmosphere, we enjoyed our sangria and nibbles.

Lovely place

By James |

Wonderful place to eat and drink. Had a lovely bite to eat and drink with my wife on my birthday. They even brought me a birthday dessert, which was a nice touch.

Good Views

By Eugene_NYC |

Really enjoyed the Midtown views, but the service needs to be improved, the were out of a few things from the menu and it took a while to get the stuff ordered.

Nice atmosphere and food, good staff- a nice experience

By r l |

Our experience at Castell Rooftop Lounge was fine. Though the outdoor lounge was not yet refurbished, we enjoyed a perfectly nice view by the window of the Empire State Building and environs. We did not order drinks but just chose two dishes each as appetizers and entrees plus dessert which proved to be sufficient. We were greeted very pleasantly, taken to our table without delay and our server was very personable and did not impose himself on us- we were able to sit and enjoy our meal uninterrupted and were allowed to stay some past finishing our meal without pressure to leave. Though the noise level is above moderate, we had no trouble hearing each other in conversation. Prices are moderate to slightly high, but we were celebrating a birthday so we felt the atmosphere and food were worth it. It is a small matter, and perhaps we assumed incorrectly, but we sort of expected that when we were told the dessert was ample for two and we explained that we would go ahead and share it, we thought we'd receive two separate plates and spoons but we had to ask for that after dessert arrived.

Elegance Above The Streets Of NYC

By SUBZEROSKIDD10 |

I came to Castell Rooftop Lounge for a mixer after a conference I attended in NYC. The company bought the drinks and food so it allowed for the ability to try a lot from their menu. The dry-aged beef sliders had a tasty garlic aioli, the four cheese grilled cheese came with a creamy tomato basil soup, and the spinach and onion empanadas were the perfect combination of crispy outer shell and a creamy and savory interior. The drinks were about what you would expect. The staff was friendly and kept the food coming. I did not get a chance to check out the actual rooftop seating area due to the size of our party but it appeared very nice, matching the elegant ambiance of the interior. It’s a great spot for after-work drinks, a weekend mid-day hang out, or a casual date. I would definitely check out Castell Rooftop Lounge again.

Five stars if the weather is good

By Alan304 |

The lounge is located on the top floor of the AC Hotel near Times Square. The views are not as interesting as found at other rooftop lounges in the area. The cocktails are good. Unexpectedly, the Crispy Sea Salt Potatoes were the best dish that we had. The service was attentive.

Great Late Night Rooftop Bar

By Joe G |

Spent the whole day in the city doing a tour of the High Line, SOHO, then uptown to a Blues Club. Missed our Bus at the Port Authority so had to kill an hour or so. The AC Hotel (Marriott Group) is only a block away from Port Authority and is a great place to have a drink on the rooftop bar. Nice patio, bar snacks, good views. Drinks are pricey- $20.00 for my Ketel One Martini, and $16.00 for a Patron Silver on the Rocks, but bartenders are experts. Nice place.

Nice spot after a Broadway show

By rvjr98 |

We had a great time after a Broadway show at Castell. Really enjoyed the Midtown views and the atmosphere. Service was friendly but extremely slow and they didn't have much vegan snack options for my friend. Very suitable for having a late night drink after a long day in Manhattan.

Unreliable: avoid

By Tristan R |

Cancelled our booking 24 hours before we were due to visit “due to a private event”. I’d say don’t bother with this place as you clearly have no idea whether they will honour a booking or not.

Very classy rooftop terrasse

By Annie B |

This rooftop is absolutely beautiful. The layout inside and out is very cool, the furniture is gorgeous. The views are amazing and the service was very good. A bit expensive but its to be expected when you have this type of venue. I would come back

Views and Vibes

Views, vibes, great service and food. This makes an excellent stop with friends. Seemed like mix of locals and tourists.

Lovely rooftop bar

By Jennifer L |

On the 21st floor of the AC Hotel, this rooftop bar offers lovely views and spacious seating areas that allow some privacy. Reservations are encouraged, especially if you want to sit outside. We enjoyed drinks and dinner (snacks) on a Monday evening and the patio was completely full.

Skip It

By LeRoach |

We stayed at the AC Marriott in Times Square and ventured up to Castell to have a drink. The hostess was ready to seat us when the manager called her over. She returned and said there were no tables available. There were plenty of tables. The hostess clearly felt uncomfortable having to convey this to us. We were dressed appropriately but my guess is because my mother was with us the manager did not feel we were the types of patrons he wanted. I have never experienced this before and unfortunately for the Marriott it is a reflection on them. After speaking to some other hotel guests about Castell they said it was terrible. Drinks were weak, expensive and the service is slow. So in the end the manager did us a favor.

Lovely!

Elegantly gorgeous rooftop! So nice for a quiet night out. I love their cocktails, their prosecco and more.

Friendly Rooftop in NYC

By Rob H |

Greeted promptly and in a friendly way. Immediately served in a great selection of tap beers and full stash of liquors. Beautiful terrace with very comfortable seating, and a nice view of the city on all sides of the building. Was able to sit and not be bothered too much or too little by the wait staff. A friendly and enjoyable experience.

Times Square Roof Terrace Bar

By VixenAdventure |

This a good location and the times I have been here was able to get seated without reservations. Not as high up as some buildings yet you will be able to see a sliver of a sunset west through the building canyons and the top of the chrysler building looking to the east!! the negative is, of course the drink prices a $20 dirty martini and the food is not great so don't go hungry...the lamb sliders are mostly sweetroll-ish bread, they always seem to be out of the french fries, and the lobster roll was a goopy mess and mostly mayo and bread, yet the avocado toast was fab!!! it is a bit of a hustle in and order fast and go type place; not really able to sit back and chat/ relax if you are not constantly ordering food or drink...as they like to turn the tables over...yet worth a good view on a beautiful night!! overall is always fab to sit out under the open sky and this is a nice spot that is easy peasy off times square)))

Great location and setting. Drinks not so much and over priced. The view is great and during summer it must be nicer

Amazing Space, Craft Cocktails, Excellent Customer Service

By Santorinitraveler |

This place was just so perfect!! Incredible staff to match an unmatched dining experience! The space is a completely immersive experience with 360 views of the city. The bartenders craft 5 star cocktails and are some of the finest in the city that will leave you wanting more (Javier is a true cocktail genius). A great establishment starts from the top down and the manager Aaron was truly accommodating and was out on the floor the entire night making sure guests were taken care of. Great music, good vibes, and perfectly crafted drinks - an absolute must if you are in the city!!

You should go when you’re in NYC

Make reservations to make sure you get a table. If not, you can lounge comfortably on the couches or you may have to stand up if it’s crowded. It is a fun place. I am glad we had reservations. Disappointng

By katerobinson24 |

When I booked a 4 night stay at the AC Times Square I also reserved for 8 of us to enjoy this lovely rooftop spot. On arrival at the hotel I went the day before to request in person an outside table. They said no problem. I was informed the next day that we were going to be seated inside. I asked why and they said a party of 13 had booked and they needed to be outside. 2 of our party decided not to even come. The inside area was not a space where you could interact with each other. In addition, when we arrived on time we were told it would be 10-15 minutes wait as another party was in our space. When we were seated we were told we could stay for 2 hours. The reservation was for 6.30. We were seated at 6.40 and at 8.00pm we were told we needed to leave! 2 of our party had just ordered a drink and they were told they would have to move outside! While we were there I noticed plenty of space in the outside seating area. The only reason to visit Castell is for the outside views. Otherwise it is an average overpriced Manhattan bar

Lovely atmosphere and great food

On a recent trip I hosted clients at the Castell Rooftop Lounge. Food and service were great with seating inside and out.

Casual rooftop spot with great service

By Brandon M |

Very fun night in Times Square area without feeling too overwhelmed! Ambience on a Friday night around sunset (7pm) was casual, not too stuffy and perfect for having a fun conversation. Drinks are a little pricey but worth it for the view and kind service. As of March 2021 you have to order food with drinks per NY state law--crostini with fig was amazing. They do enforce a 90 minute per table limit, which was a little annoying because the bar wasn't full w/ several open tables when we were leaving and we felt a little rushed. Willing to overlook the last part as Castell was an overall great experience!

Don’t bring kids

By Anna G |

We were staying in the AC Hotel so I mistakenly assumed the rooftop lounge might be accommodating to families especially since they pride themselves on the view. I made a reservation a week in advance for 8pm. We planned a lot of our afternoon around enjoying a drink and having some small bites before bed. We were turned away because we had a 6 year old with us. We were told there was a “very strict no child policy after 7pm.” I said there was no where that was stated on the reservation form (opentable) and the manager said “did you state you had a child with you?” No…I didn’t, because that’s not a question the reservation form asks. You have restaurant information that is very helpful on open table but nothing that says no kids after a certain time which makes me think it’s not a policy but you were busy and maybe felt we weren’t appropriate patrons? I don’t have a problem with no child policies but put it on your website and on your opentable form. After reading about the woman that was turned away with her elderly mother I suppose I’m not surprised. A family came in late downstairs and one of them said “there is a lounge upstairs with food and drinks.” I made sure to tell them they would not be welcome since the hotel is oblivious of the lounges rules as well

Location, service, cocktails & food - highly recommended

Amazing views of the city, wonderful cocktails, impeccable service, location/location/location. Bites & nibbles all on spec - would happily recommend without a second thought.
