I visited Certe on 55th St in Manhattan around 5pm. I called & was told they close @ 6pm. I was shocked that the storefront was kinda dark & empty. There were no tables to sit out. The very nice counter man said, we are primarily a breakfast/lunch take out business. We do a lot of catering too. Although they were closing, he offered most hot n cold sandwiches/Soup/Salads/ Beverages. All the hot food & hot plate specials of the day were finished. I understood, but was disappointed about No place to sit. I ordered take out & ended up eating my dinner in the Sheraton Hotel Lobby. It was much too cold to eat outside. I had a great chicken breast & prosutto on a Roll, coleslaw & nice mushroom barley soup. Certe is reasonably priced for Manhattan & a very cordial counterman. He felt badly, & gave me a free snack container of Sweet n Spicy Almonds. Very nice gesture. A very good place for Take Out & Catering if you need reasonably priced-good food. I definately Will go back in the Spring & eat in the Park or Avenue Six & a Half, Outdoor Street Mall.

used a groupon to get breakfast, such a choice of food. good value. really tasty fresh tasting food and staff were brilliant. 2nd time visited and worth going. not far from 5th avenue and rockefeller centre. ate our food at the rockefeller centre (downstairs by starbucks)

Every time we go to NY, my wife and I head for the little hole in the wall on E. 56th Street west of Lex called Pizza Cer te’. This little gem’s specialty pizzas are so good that we suggested to the owner that we’d be willing to back him to do a San Francisco version of his restaurant. It’s very crowded and more like a to-go counter with a few chairs, but everything’s fresh and the place has won a number of accolades for being green. Last week, we took the pizza to go, already heated, and then reheated it for seven minutes in a hot oven. It was terrific! You won’t be disappointed.

Having said that, the food was delicious, various pizzas, sandwiches, fruit salads etc, definitely worth the value.

Visited NYC and purchased a Group-on prior to going. The food was average but the biggest deterrent to going here is the size of the eating area which is very very small. There are perhaps 6 or 7 chairs available with customers coming in and reaching over you get their take out. Not our cup of pizza.

Great food. Not your typical lunch fare. Food is made fresh when you order. This is a take-out restaurant, and can be crowded during lunch hours. The staff is very accommodating, and will let you sample the soups. They often have samples of various dishes to try. Mike is particularly attentive and makes great suggestions. He recommended the glazed sirloin sandwich, and it is delicious. Don't pass up the desserts. The carrot cake, lemon bar, and cookies are heavenly.
