I tried the traditional Khachapuri knowing I don’t have the stomach for it. It was tasty though it didn’t agree with me. The lamb another time suited me better. The cheese especially was delicious. The service, ambience, and overall experience was good.

Wandered into this unfamiliar restaurant and was delighted to find out it was Georgian, a menu with which we were totally unfamiliar. Delightful ! An interesting menu of appetizers, soups and many new ingredients and combinations- the grape leaves stuffed with lamb and rice were some of the best we’ve ever had. The watermelon with feta and an opal dressing and persimmon was yummy. Service was great as was the ambiance

Please, please please come and eat here. I cannot express how amazing this was, and our food was relatively fast. Definitely recommend.

Just had our first experience of Georgian food and it will not be our last! Wonderful dining experience 👌. Staff super helpful with the menu selection. Food was super delicious. So good we had to find our local Georgian restaurant home in Ireland. Thank you so much!

Our first time here. I cannot believe it took us this long to get here. Everything was very tasty. Three of us split the Georgian Salad, Adjaruli khachapuri, pan fried lamb khinkali, kebab chicken, a Georgian donut and the honey cake. Everything was excellent. Service was exceptional. Will definitely go back. They have indoor and outside patio seating.

Attractive, fresh ambiance, authentic menu. I enjoyed the beef karcho (soup) and for the first time tried a typical Georgian dessert pelamushi, a gelatin-style dish made with grape juice. Warning: The wooden seats (see photo above) have rough edges that can easily snag tights, stockings, or pants/slacks other than jeans. You can easily damage a garment and only realize it when you try to stand up!

The food was absolutely delicious, although if you are new to Georgian food, it can be a little mystifying as to what is what (and the server wasn’t terribly helpful in sorting it out). I went with someone who had had Georgian food before and helped me figure it out. I draw a special note of excellence to the dumplings (like giant soup dumplings, truly wonderful) and the khachapuri (cheesy bread). It seems to be a meat heavy cuisine (my love language) and while there are some options that may appeal to vegetarians, it’s not really a place for vegetarians. Overall, a real great dining experience.

Everything was excellent, the food, atmosphere, and service. We were a family of four with a 12 and 9 year old who is picky. We got multiple dishes and shared them. We especially liked the lamb kebabs, cheese bowl, and chocolate cloud cake. 10/10 recommend!!!

Chama mama recently opened a branch in the upper west side. We went with a relative who lived and worked in the country of Georgia. He wanted us to taste some authentic Georgian food. It was great! Our waitress was from the country of Georgia and was helpful in making Suggestions. Will definitely return to this restaurant.

100 Stars!! I have not been able to stop thinking about the excellent food. There were 7 of us at the UWS location, and we got 8 dishes to share. Fresh ingredients and flavors that just popped in your mouth. Favorites: Crispy smashed potatoes, seasonal khachapuri, khinkali, and the Georgian salad. Service was excellent too.

Chama Mama was unexpected delight. This hidden gem packs unexpected flavor into every dish using a variety of herbs and vegetables. The menu focuses on Georgian cuisine, and everything we ordered was excellent. We chose the eggplant for an appetizer, and the Georgian salad and roasted chicken for dinner. Everything was so full of flavor and fresh herbs in every bite and beautifully presented. The chef cooked the chicken perfectly, moist on the inside and just a little crispy on the outside. The restaurant seems to put a lot of thought into where they source their ingredients. The tomatoes in the salads were more full of flavor than any tomatoes I have had in a long time. We did not have a reservation so we sat at the bar, and the bartender was lovely, despite being very busy. Only suggestion is that they could offer Diet Coke (no sodas) and they could do a little more with the interior decor, but all in all, this is a wonderful little restaurant that cares about serving the very best food and we are eager to return.
Highly recommended - delicious food and friendly staff
Delicious food. Friendly and helpful staff. Clean restaurant. We ordered the tarragon-lemongrass lemonade (over-the-top amazing), the penovani khachapuri, the lobiani, and the pelomushi for dessert. The puff pastries (penovani khachapuri & lobiani) were crisp, flaky and superb. The herbed salad side that came with them set a very high bar for side salad (loved the light vinegarette dressing, herbs, and pomegranate seeds). The desert tasted like concentrated grapes & was delicious. We also ordered a side of chama mama bread, which had good flavor & texture. We will be back the next time we are in NYC.
