Love everything about it. 90's hiphop. Great food. The crisp chicken is strong. The uni on toast is the best dish though. Fun bar scene. Tough table. But if you can swing it, I highly recommend.

So we had a special evening out with our American cousins and were given a great table in the upper part of the restaurant. The food was absolutely the best I have ever tasted with each dish providing many different tastes and flavours. We started with oysters and scallops, which was followed by three different pasta dishes which were really fantastic. One was a ravioli which oozed the most delicious sauce inside and had a celery based sauce around it. There was also a truffle gnocchi, so tasty! The main courses were steak, and branzino fish, with various sides including an awesome roasted Brussel sprout dish. Dessert was a chocolate dish with vanilla ice cream to go with it. Everything was cooked to perfection and served with a complementary wine. The service was superb and I would highly recommend this restaurant for a great evening!

One of my favorite downtown places to grab lunch or dinner. 1) they only play hip hop. It's almost always good 90's hip hop. it's not too loud (I can't stand loud places, or overly loud music) 2) the food is GOOD. razor clam chicken salad roast chicken main course various fish dishes I've enjoyed everything I have eaten here. They also make fresh squeezed vegetable juices. It is good for dinner or lunch, I always try to avoid peak times as I do not like to be anywhere noisy, I have eaten here at peak and it is the same as every other popular downtown restaurant - it gets a bit loud for me. There are outdoor tables when the weather is appropriate, I like to sit either inside or outside. It's just a well designed space. They use Aesop soap and lotion products in the bathrooms They provide the dental floss picks (plastic tools) in the bathrooms which I think is a practical and thoughtful touch.

We had high expectations, given the reviews, and we weren't disappointed. Service was efficient and friendly, without being over the top. Wines were available by the half bottle for the full list - a major plus point given one is so often limited by the per glass availability. We chose an amazing Californian Chardonnay followed by a Californian Syrah. I had the rib eye with sides of French fries and broccoli and my wife had the short rib ravioli with an asparagus side. Both were delicious and beautifully executed. We were in and out in 90 mins and never felt rushed or that we waited too long. All in all a great experience.

We had heard a lot about this place so we decided to take our clients for a visit. Wine list interesting. Beautiful glasses - zalto! Appetizers were good. Entree ok. Lamb - my lamb was way over cooked. The gnocchi was tiny and not very good. Dessert list was not impressive. Would not visit again.

Shared dishes were really good- the farro salad was amazing. Wide selection of very interesting dishes, including several vegetarian. Large plates were all delicious, not quite as interesting, but really well done. Wine list was great and well priced. Loved the music and decor. Definitely will go back, just as soon as I can get a reservation!

Too me is the usual NYC overpriced restaurant, nevertheless food is really good indeed. Atmosphere is totally wannabe poshy. Ambiance really nice and personnel very kind and professional.

Make a reservation- only thing available was 10PM! Managed to entertain ourselves until then and I'm glad we did! Started with the grilled octopus- yummy and fresh! Followed with pasta with truffles (fantastic!), lacquered duck (great) and sides of broccoli rabe and caramelized cauliflower- all great! Nice wine choices and ended with an over the top chocolate souffle and coffees. Totally recommend this place!!

What a great scene. Lots of young cool people (with the exception of me), with a great bar and dining area. Had a variety of dishes (including roasted sucking pig shoulder - amazing) and octopus. All was excellent, including the desserts. Service was great.

What A fun dinner. We went heavy on the pasta -- all were excellent. The farro salas was probably the highlight. The drinks are strong and yummy. The carrots were surprisingly good. I wouldn't repeat the burrata. And best of all, every track on the playlist brought me back to the 90s with an endless array of old school hip hop beats.

Immaculate table service - friendly, attentive, informative. We shared the crispy chicken with live mousse (served on two plates for us) and the pea side (both mash and woke peas with a crumb). Chicken rub was well spiced and the skin crispy. The meat was juicy and flavorsome. The mousse worked well with the chicken, thinly layered over a slice. A simple salad accompanied it. The peas two ways were a fresh compliment to the dish. Extra bonus with ontap mineral water. Good experience

Gluten-Free/Celiac Review... we had emailed in advance asking if the restaurant was safe for someone with celiac disease (actual allergy to gluten, not just on a GF diet). we were assured by management and wait staff that the food and kitchen were safe for allergies. shortly after the meal, my celiac girlfriend became violently ill. from past experiences, it's clear it was from Charlie Bird's food because of how quickly the reaction came about. following that, management denied responsibility and blamed us. very disappointing and rude.

The place was definitely happening. We went on a Wednesday night and it was very busy. The food was very good but a little to stingy on the size. The waitress was good but also stretched a bit thin for my liking. It was a good place I would go again but over priced for the quantity and quality. To put it like this, I don't even remember what we ordered and it was only 2 months ago. It was just not that memorable.

We were dismayed to see how the tables were packed in and we felt like sardines. I'm pretty slim but we had to carefully move the table aside for me to fit into the banquette. When we sat down, we were almost shoulder to shoulder with the couples on either side. To add to this discomfort, the men on either side of my husband were freely dropping the F bomb as if in pursuit of some cool factor they didnt achieve in junior high. They each had female dinner dates across from them..I hope those women were impressed..I certainly wasn't. I'm no prude and I do pull out that expletive on occasion, but not when within ear shot of others while dining (or many other social situations). The bar was limited (NO TANQUERAY 10?? No Titos?) We had burrata salad in which the chef substituted squash for the tomatoes. We prefer the fresh crunch of tomato as a contrast to the soft cheese..the squash was mushy. We both had Branzino which was fabulous. The wait staff was pleasant and efficient. WTF happened to civility? 🤬

We cannot thank Kimberley and her team enough for the most wonderful lunch we had yesterday. The food and wine were delicious and the ambience of the private dining room special - it made my birthday so memorable especially as we have all come from Australia to celebrate! All my family and friends felt the service and attention to detail was impeccable! Highly recommended! We will return when next in NYC!

A friend and I ate lunch at Charlie Bird when we arrived in NYC. The atmosphere is cool and I absolutely love the 90s hip hop they have playing. I had a delicious sweet potato and farro salad that I seriously dream about. This was a super cool restaurant and great little lunch spot. I would definitely recommend!

Went for dinner. We had a cocktail and it was very nice, not too sweet and not too strong. The salads are out of this world if you like fresh, not supermarket like, ingredients. Suggest you order salads to share, as portions are not small. Followed with cod and ribeye. Cod was very tender and cooked to perfection. Ribeye was medium rare as ordered but could have used a bit more salt. Best French fries in a long time. Wine by the glass selection is concentrated with northern Italian. Desert.. What can I say... The olive oil infused chocolate molten cake was unique. Really good food, service and ingridients.

From the time of making a hard to come by reservation with wonderful John who answered the phone, so courteously and was so exceptionally accomadating to walking through the door and being greeted by the most friendly and outstanding host Grace, who immediately wished my husband and I Happy Anniversary, our evening was superb. Food was exceptional, with a very broad spectrum of sublime and unusual choices of delicious food. We shard an exceptional duck ragu pasta, then had the chicken liver pate on toast. Main course we had one of their signature dishes which was outstanding, chicken with chanterelles, and also the duck. I must say the duck comes rare, I personally do not like rare poultry so if you need it more well done, let them know. The atmosphere is young and buzzing. The tables above the stairs are a little quieter, and in my opinion nicer. All in all a wonderful evening, with excellent service and delicious, tasty and good varied menu choices

Reservations were made by our travel agent and given that this was the last night of our trip and my husbands birthday... this would have not been my first choice. Boy was I wrong! Best meal in NYC! The staff was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. I had the best lamb I have ever had. The pasta with mussels special was also amazing. Great ambiance, friendly staff, attentive service and fantastic food! In full transparency, the only negative was that the music was a little loud which made the conversation a little more difficult. I would absolutely recommend!

Went to this restaurant for a birthday dinner - it was amazing! I think we tried almost everything on the menu. Loved the farro salad, the gnocchi rosa, and the burrata for small plates. For entree, I had the crispy farm chicken. All of it was great!

This is a must-eat if you spend any time between SoHo and Greenwich! The food is prepared with such attention to detail - it is clear they take a lot of pride in their craft. My wife and I tried several plates and each was better than the last. Don't forget to save room for desert and be sure to order an Americano to go with it. Most of all we loved to staff. They were incredibly friendly and helpful - we were treated like family. This was my first time visiting Charlie Bird but it will not be my last!

The food at this Soho restaurant on Sixth Avenue is good, notably the fresh made pastas. The service is slow, the vibe is ultra cool, but the music selection, at least tonight, was off the rails offensive *%#!• (just about every expletive one could conjure up) rap. How anyone could choose to eat dinner to this type music is beyond me, really not so cool in my view.

Cool and fresh atmosphere A bit pricy But food is very tasty A lot of big windows I liked the 60’ design

Kinda disappointed after what I had read. Service was so so. Had the farro salad, fish and the lobster pasta. Nothing special!! Sorry, we wanted to love it didn’t.

We loved the place but the food was just too full of salt. Every dish- relentless. Come here but not if you are concerned about living. The wines from the back of the list were great.

We truly enjoyed our meal at this neighborhood restaurant. We appreciated the casual atmosphere, but with high-end food and service. Grant is an amazing sommelier with unbelievable knowledge and talent. We had the most amazing wine at his recommendation.

What an incredible experience, apart from the excellent menu the staff was incredible. The hamachi and crudo were something else. I’m not a huge fan of cacio e Pepe but here wow, blown away! Great wine selection and really cozy atmosphere

We sat at the bar (tables were all reserved) and Hector was our waiter/mixologist. He made awesome margaritas for us and gave great advice on the menu. We order the foccacia bread, roasted farm chicken and roasted scallops. Excellent choices, fresh and very well prepared. We had the chocolate budino (came with rice krispies!) and it was a fine way to cap off the meal. Hector made our visit fun and we'll be sure to come back. Thank you!

This SOHO spot is lively and fresh - both food and atmosphere. The fresh, fresh, fresh ingredients (some imported just for the chef) are combined in new and surprising ways to delicious effect. The menu changes with the season but we have enjoyed octopus, burrata, farro salad with seasonal veggies and short rib. The place is always busy, so reserve ahead. The energy is part of the experience and it's fueled by the hip hop music and the worthy wine list.

A pleasant weekend lunchtime visit - nice seating outside, friendly and efficient service. Some menu choices weren’t available which is a bit frustrating given it’s a fairly short menu but i suppose that’s the sign of a good place! Would definitely recommend!!

I went with a colleague for dinner. Waiters helped us choosing food, giving us good recommendations. Wine list is very short, food not really exiting but ok. Eggplants were good. Not for a date, better to go with friends.

Very stylish restaurant. Food was good. I was thrown off a bit by what seemed like rap music playing as background music. Didn’t seem to see any Italian servers. Not what i anticipated

You'd never know as you pass by that this restaurant is anything special. But if you take the time to try, you find yourself pleasantly surprised. Everything is of an impeccable quality -- the food, the depth of the wine list, the friendly unpretentious service. Being brought here was a nice surprise and it's definitely worth coming back.

An excellent dining experience. Food was delicious! I recommend: Agnolotti, roasted cauliflower as a side and chocolate cake for dessert! Outdoor patio setup was really nice especially on a warm fall evening. The indoor setup is equally nice for when it is cold outside. I will go back as there are other items on the menu i want to try!

OK; so we know a lot of restaurants in NYC; the standards, the tried and true, the new openings, the "hot" chefs etc. My friends had wanted to try this place and prior to my visit Thursday (Apr 2), had each visited Charlie Bird a couple of times and they liked it. Knowing the places we frequent and usually all agree on, I cant for the life of me figure out why they liked Charlie Bird! Start with the limited space and cramped seating. A drink at the bar? You can try but its a squeeze and shift game; not at all enjoyable waiting at the bar unless you can plan to stay seated for a long there in order to make the maneuverings and pushing and shoving "worth" it. That's a challenge in itself but the table seating was no better (and no smarty: we're not "larger" people!). There seemed to be perhaps a couple of tables which might be OK but by and large, another situation of once seated, you really don't want to have to get up if you can avoid it. Then the main attraction: the food, right? More like "the food, wrong". OK, not wrong but just VERY average; no big deal at all. Looking at some of the recent reviews here, I'm struck by how they really don't read all that complimentary! The focaccia bread was a nice touch to start and the service was a touch above average and we appreciated it. But really, that's about it in terms of "remarkable". I agree with the reviewer of the Farro Salad (Harvey); and, octopus app was just OK; although the razor clam app was very tasty (yaay, 1 high mark!). But not a reason to go out of ones way to get it. Pasta mains looked (and the one I tried, tasted) very average indeed. The Bass main was, again, nothing special; a nicely cooked piece of fish; and like I say below, the pork shoulder was, well...pork shoulder. It was fine. The 2 sides we had - the cauliflower and the artichoke - were greasy and both overcooked; really just "eh". Plenty of more comfortable places where these dishes are either just as "fine" or frankly, better. A word on ambience: Agree with "pottone" review about nice personnel as well as the pretentiousness/trying too hard aspect. While the music was not too loud (surprisingly, we could actually hear ourselves speak, at least at our table against the wall farthest away from the bar), I really question the level of taste in choice of music, and what the manager/owner is thinking in allowing these choices? "Cheesedog" review talks about the "90s hiphop" and I'm not so sure we had similar music our night. Finding out one of the servers chooses the music, I did mention to the host/manager that I really don't appreciate (as neither did my friends, actually) hearing lyrics in songs that repeatedly use the "N" word and talked about "my name is he ain't S**T"...or some such. Not really appropriate - and actually kind of offensive, folks - for any restaurant purporting to be what Charlie Bird is, or, at least is supposedly striving to be.

My wife and I had dinner reservations to celebrate my birthday. We showed up early for the reservation. The bar are was half full, and there were many tables available. The Host was rude, and disinterested. We were shown to a table in the back corner facing the wall. I asked politely if we could be moved to one of the other 3 two tops available in the upstairs. I was told "No, those tables have been spoken for" I was directed back to the Host. The Host, told us, "No i won't move you , that is your table". Now, under normal circumstances, i would expect a bit more. An offer to have a seat at the bar, until another table could be arranged, an offer to sit at one of the many tables available in the bar area. It seems the Host and Co host just don't care what we think. So instead, we decided to leave and enjoy another great eatery in the W. V.

Make sure you reserve a table before eating here as it gets packed. The food was fantastic and the service great as well. I will gladly come here again.

What an interesting menu. Was great to share and many dishes. First time I had sea urchin and was deliciously ocean salty. The oyster and clam plate as perfect for the group. If you like bread, have to try the cheese bread.

If you are considering this iconic place, it’s worth it. We ate al fresco. The bronzino is not to be missed. The fish is served whole with crispy and flavor that keeps developing layers of flavors in your mouth. The cappelletti was delicious. The burrata is prepared with asparagus and pine nuts; divine! The service was impeccable.

This restaurant came highly recommended by a NYC friend several times so we finally made it! Delightful late night meal w/ fab Somm service ordered a Jura white that for some might be a tad too yeasty. I kind of know my wines as a WSET certed guy and was able to engage in fun wine chat. Came here with my bestie gal pal from CA home and we both are pretty well traveled and foodie/winers ;)). Salads, Gnocchi, dessert and all dishes were tastefully and thoughtfully prepared. THE NICEST CARING hostess ever greeted us and checked in frequently. The ONLY problem was as we approached the close of business they turned up some raucous rap music that didn’t fit the mood one bit. We would return no Doubt. Cin Cin!!

Great food with great wines. We tried a lot of dishes there. Fluke, scallops and farro are so good. Sea food is really fresh. We ll definitely come back.

Came here for brunch after wandering by. I'd heard good things. Let me say that the bread sticks are delicious and I ate way too many. The white asparagus themselves were good but the sauce was a bit heavy and the sausage very salty. The crispy chicken was fine. The liver mouse that came with it was great. But the chicken, especially the breast piece, was a tad dry. The dark meat was good.

Where do I start. This place is amazing. The service, the food and let's talk HIP HIP music! YES. I thought I died and woke up in my favorite concept. High-end food, service and B-Side hip hop tracks. Ok thank you. Everyone is lovely there.

Luckily We Got a "Walk in" Table on a Thursday Night at 7:30 :) Very Crowded and Happening Place with a Very Inviting Vibe...Staff is Super Nice and Welcoming... Food was Fresh and Eclectically Delicious...They even Let Me Switch the Sauce on the Gnocchi to the Carbonara which Turned Out Scrumptious!!! Everything was Delicious!!! I Will Definitely make a Reservation in the Future!!! :) *They have the Most Beautiful Wine Glasses I have Seen in a Restaurant by Far :)

Unlike most menus, their's is a combination of drinks and food, so don't look for a second menu to be placed in front of you when you sit down. With all the reviews on this sight saying how loud the restaurant is supposed to be here, I was expecting something awful when I got there. That was not the case at all, not close. The music was at a very tolerable level. The conversational level of noise was also tolerable. This is coming from someone who does not want to be in loud restaurants. Now, for the most important part, the food. They start you off with complimentary focaccia bread (see photo) which was good, and crusty as well. I ordered the Tuscan Chicken Liver Crostini with fennel and walnut chutney ($15). I thought that all the ingredients made it moist and it was good, but I would have preferred that it have more liver taste rather than so much of a taste combination of all the ingredients. The Farro Salad ($16) was made up of roasted pumpkin, pistachio nuts, parmigiano cheese and mint. Occasionally it was a pleasing salad, but too often the taste was dominated by the cheese.

Engaging server helped get the night off to a great start. Cute restaurant. Good but not great food. Enjoyed the bone marrow appetizer and excellent fries. Nice cocktail selection. Ocean trout was very interesting and delicious, but could've used more veggies to accompany it. Other entrees our table had were good but not memorable. Our expectations were high, as the restaurant has received good press. Think they need to step it up a notch to get to 5 stars, particularly with all the other good restaurants in the area.

We come to NYC every 2 months and always have a list of restaurants to enjoy that we have not visited before. On this visit, we had the GREAT fortune to eat at Charlie Bird. We loved this dining experience. The food was exceptional, the service was experienced and full of smiles! The restaurant is small - so make your reservations in advance!!! - but the ambience is warm and inviting. Definitely order the crudo, chicken liver and bone marrow!!! This spot has now moved from our list of "to try" to "visit as often as possible."

The visual appeal of the interior was nice. The service was good. Food arrived promptly and the servers were attentive, kind, and not stuffy at all. I appreciated the music selection, being that it was modern and not exactly what you might expect to accompany the menu (as in the food--the physical menu, though, was very rock 'n roll) and decor. However, the music was too loud. My wife asked me numerous times to repeat myself and after about an hour my ears were fatigued. I noticed the place was all hard surfaces and they apparently had put no thought into sound absorption. Perhaps they were trying to drown out traffic noises since it was right on Avenue of the Americas? The visual appeal of the food was average to good. I thought the pumpkin salad was very good, but the brussel sprouts (deep fried, oily and salty) and the broccoli (also too oily and salty) were not good. The pasta wasn't appetizing and the cod, while expertly prepared, wasn't a flavor that resonated with me. We had three drinks total (two for me and one for her), plus we shared a gelato dessert which was very good. Total with tip it was over $200. I've had many, many better meals for less than $100, but most in Portland, OR though. By Portland standards, I think we should have paid about $80 for this meal and even then I still would have given it the same rating. I have a feeling, based on the other reviews I've read, that my experience was abnormal. I'd try this place again, but I'd ask more questions of the server before ordering. I'm surprised the servers didn't have more to say about the food, really.

If you think there is any connection to Jazz, think again. This is a typical loud Manhattan restaurant. Hard to have a conversation with your friends at the table. We had pasta, very small portions, not very tasty or special at all. Wagyu beef on the other hand quite ok. Of all the places, pick another one. You don't get any value for your money here and the atmosphere does not make up for it either.

We went to Charlie Bird with another couple & our son. We'd just arrived in NYC & were excited to start enjoying some great cuisine-- unfortunately, Charlie Bird wasn't it. I ordered the gnocchi & it was thick, chewy -- not the light, airy, pasta-pillows I was anticipating & the sauce was bland. There were really NO choices for children & they made no real effort to provide one. The restaurant was too dark & too noisy & all around a big disappointment.

Very very thick bloody mary's but good. Our favorite thing was the scallop with brown butter. It was amazing. We also loved the octopus, flatbread and lobster. It was all really really good. Wanted to try the polenta with the egg on top but we just got too full.

We started with wine... very small pour. We moved on the entrees. We had the chicken and the steak. When the plates were put down we noticed the chicken was half of a half breast. Not a meal by any standard. I guess the other half of the breast they used to make chicken salad for one of the owner’s kids lunch the next day. The steak also had size issues. When they place ribeye on the menu you expect a decent portion but this steak was a measly few slices. Not going back we feel taken.

My daughter chose this restaurant to celebrate my birthday this evening. WOW. It was the best meal I have had in a while. Why? 1) relaxing , inviting venue 2) it was not too loud to hear! 3) the wait staff and hosts were exemplary - friendly, accommodating, helpful, and gracious. 4) Most importantly, everything we ordered was delicious, fresh, and seasonal. I highly recommend the heirloom tomato and peach panzanella - just divine.

Charlie Bird is a great dinner. We shared several plates and each one was really good, especially, the Octopus and Duck with pasta. It has lovely ambiance, and the proper buzz.

One of my absolute favourites in NY. Great NY-italian food and very nice wine list together with heavy hip hop. Wish i lived just around the corner!

We both were hyper-aware about the buzz around this place. We could not get in for dinner! So we booked Saturday lunch at noon. Place was almost empty - come again? Nice decor, but absolutely not overwhelming (some say "cool" - I would say kinda plain). Nice terrace outside - choose it on a nice day. Our server was bleary-eyed (tough night out?) and VERY slow. Having been such a downer, let me now say - both of our meals were superb. They were worth the wait. My spaghetti was minimalist in preparation, exactly the way I like it, in a light sauce that we incredibly delicious. The kitchen definitely knows what they are doing. All in all, glad we went, but we both left wondering what all the fuss is about.

Booked a month before to make sure we could get in. Restaurant was full with people waiting. Waiters very helpful and atmosphere great. The share lates were very good. Especially the scallops. Brilliant. Mains were a little predictable and not as exciting. Next time we would order just share plates. Sommelier was not as knowledgeable as purported.

First, the menu is very limited. The portions are majorly small. I had grilled octopus for about $20 and very small portion. The smallest I have ever had. If you want great octopus in the city go to Casa Mono on Irving Street. The pasta entree was like an appetizer. Had to go somewhere else to eat 2 hours later because still hungry. and, my wife and i are not big eaters looking for large portions. Get this-- the wine pours are 4 oz. I had a $21 dollar glass and they wines were all over priced. The noise level is high. The service quite poor. I hate it when my food comes out and the wine comes out 10 minutes later despite the fact that we ordered it first. We did not do desert. The restaurant seems to be more trendy and played loud music. I would not recommend it for serious foodies or actually to anyone. Poor value, poor service, loud, small overpriced portions.

Wanted a special place to celebrate Nancy's birthday. Our son (13) suggested Charlie Bird. Happily surprised that Mike cared enough to help find a place we looked it up and everything we saw looked right so we made reservations. This is a cool trendy hip place with 90's hip hop music (played at a volume that does not interfere with conversation and done well. We liked it.) More important than cool and trendy was that the staff was friendly, polite, knowledgeable and made us feel right at home. (even though I am not cool) They laughed at my corny jokes and treated us like we were regulars. Started with cocktails - Old Pal was a standout (rye, vermouth Campari) nice balance without being super sweet. Smooth. We ordered a lot of food and every single dish was perfect. Grilled Octopus with baby potatoes delicious, tender - everyone enjoyed this. 2 pasta dishes also winners: Agnolotti with pheasant was awesome. The Tagliatelle was devoured by Mike so I did not get to taste that one. Our large plates were all very tasty and good portions. Some folks who reviewed complained expecting family style giant sized plates. This is not Carmines, come on. The veal chop was actually much larger than expected and was tender moist delicious - perfectly cooked. The Suckling Pork shoulder also a stand out dinner. Our friend had the Black Bass fish and liked it too. Wine was over the top good - Annona Montepulciano 2014. Paired well with all dishes and smooth. I found this is in the shameless plug section of the menu. (SOMMELIER FRIENDS WHO MAKE WINE) I struck gold on that selection. We tried all the deserts and they were unusual and good. Son did not like the Olive Oil Cake or Olive Oil gelatto, but adults did enjoy that. The chocolate Budino superb.

This is a quick one. Good food. Good service. But who the hell thinks playing hard core gangsta rap at 6:00 pm is a good idea at this resto? F bombs. N bombs. Basically an angry, hate filled 90 minute soundtrack over a pre theatre family dinner. I would fire the idiot who thought this was a good idea. No issue with hip hop or rap but this wasn’t cool. Just stupid. Never be back.

Great location and cozy dining. Some of the best plates we've had recently in NYC. Service was excellent. Don't miss the Farro salad

First visit July 2019. We stopped in for an early dinner. The immediate first impression is the bad music playing, and not playing subtly. The next impression is the excellent service, although carried about by slovenly dressed staff. The wine list is really nice - well thought out, if tending toward the obvious, with prices that were quite reasonable. Sadly, the fish was not fresh and was cloaked in a tongue-scorching overdose of salt. The side of carrots was also super salty. To their credit, management handled everything graciously, but we see no reason to return.

Run, dont walk to get there and have every dish that includes that chicken Liver Pate. They apparently use a centrifuge to create this rich and decadent and yet still light and airy Pate. Run....

We spent a lot of money for Cacio e Pepe and some wine at lunch. The menu is very limited, especially for gluten or celiac diets.

I know the heading seems a bit odd, but let me try to explain. The menu options, flavors, service, and overall experience was very good...but not good enough to let me leave broke and hungry. Two cocktails and three very nice courses later (octopus, agnolotti, and pork shoulder) and I left with a hole in my wallet and a hole in my stomach. It’s too bad they don’t have a more appropriate portioning of food because it is very enjoyable and I would have loved to try other dishes. Sadly, I spent $130 at Charlie Bird, but the extra $20 at JG Melon (second dinner) was necessary to make me content. Therefore, not sure I can justify the return visit given the vast options with comparable execution, but larger portions in the city.

Went for dinner and decided appetizers would do, food was ok, but overpriced Iced tea $5, chicken $30? really! Staff was unattentive

This is a terrific restaurant, with great food, wine and energy. Hip hop plays in the background, while you are presented with an interesting array of appetizers and entrees. Our host chose most of the options, as I was in a larger group of people and it was easier to order a variety of plates and enjoy a taste of everything by passing plates around. Service was terrific, with plates, dishes and glasses cleared and refilled quickly. Only negative, this restaurant gets busy and as it filled in during a peak time, it got noisy quickly. Location was easy near the intersection of Avenue of the Americas and Houston Street.

We had a business dinner here with a large group. The Wine was great and the food was very good. I remember the Farro as excellent and my main dish was very good. We order some eclectic appetizers to share, hip hop theme was interesting, but not overwhelming.

We LOVED this place. My daughter chose it to celebrate her 21st birthday last weekend and it did not disappoint! We had the farro salad, uni pasta. chicken and a bunch of sides among other things. Everything was delicious and the service was amazing. We had a small army of staff attending our group of four at all times. Matthew was our waiter and really was terrific. He was very attentive, friendly and made great suggestions for us. The fact we live in the neighborhood is also a bonus! We will definitely be back!

We were here for a party in the private room. The food was fantastic. Creative and fresh. Razor clams were really yummy as was the black pasta with crab. The dessert of warm chocolate budino was other worldly. I found the vegetables too full of olive oil and greasy. Since it was a private party, the service was fantastic and I have no idea of the cost. Walking through the restaurant to get to and from the private room, the restaurant seemed very crowded, noisy and chaotic. Too hip for senior citizens!

While the menu is limited, everything was wonderful. A form of Contemporary American. A great location and place to meet friends.

The service was haphazard and distracted; portions in many of the main courses were unusually small. The only restaurant I’ve ever been to where you were told, with no apologies, to leave because your table had been booked for another group.

Love the food atmosphere. service and all. Just a classy place. They know service. the wait staff was lovely. Very accommodating. Even the bus boys were so lovely. Great for lunch and dinner

My husband and I have been wanting to go here for a long time and finally made it here recently. I have to agree with some of the reviews that this place is way overrated. We had the octopus to start followed by the Jonah crab spaghetti and farm chicken. The octopus was very small for what they charged. Usually, my husband and I share the mains but I couldn't bring myself to eat his crap spaghetti because it was not very good. It had a sour taste to it and was very unappetizing. We did not say anything at the time but we probably should have. I do have to say that the chicken liver mousse that came with the chicken was amazing. Loved the taste!!. I could not help but think that the blue apron meal we made the night before was better than most of the food at this restaurant. There is nothing exceptionally different in the menu nor was it very appetizing. Service was fine and was not included in the meal like at Pasquale jones. Overall, very disappointing meal. Will not be going back and cant recommend it to anyone else either..

We were recommended lunch at Charlie Bird, and it did not disappoint! In summary, its a nice buzzy place with great service and good, honest food at reasonable prices. A small, but carefully selected menu with fresh, healthy and flavourful food. I could have gone for anything, but opted for a number of little dishes. The octopus and faro salad were the most memorable, as was the extensive and well-chosen wine list. Most enjoyable.

Due to the reviews I was hesitant to go. And yet, I loved it. The servers were incredible, kind, attentive, went out of their way. The farro salad was amazing as was the chicken which always is the dish that seems least interesting in restaurants so the one I skip. I highly recommend it. The menu is small for lunch though.

This is why I don't fully trust Michelin, James Beard, etc. because this restaurant could justifiably be Michelin II. See my previous reviews, I've eaten at many of the highest reviewed restaurants around the world and Charlie Bird would cook circles around most of the supposed best restaurants in Paris, London, Milan, Monaco, Singapore, HK, etc. Dining in NY used to be riskless. Today, most restaurants compel a collective delusion, whereby we insist to ourselves and the world that dishes were excellent but we know that, at best, they were mediocre. Charlie Bird is unequivocal. It is excellent and there is no doubt about it. What a feast we had today. I will eat here every week when in NY for the rest of my life. This will be my evidence that I am doing my best to value life. Ma Chapeau. Wow!

The food is the best here and thats why i came back. Gave this place a 5 star review been ever since they opened. However now service went down the drain. the guys serving out on terrace have attitude. the one of the drinks was angry i flagged him down to get me a drink as we where empty for ever. he then sighed and went back in to get me my drink. and we where the only 2 tables!!! the waiter himself had some attitude about the food, last time the chef adjusted the meal for me to adjust to my food allergies. this waiter did not want to adjust NOR ask the chef. Am not returning here!! and then I still had to tip the customary 20% hmmmmmm

A cool place with an unusual vibe. Seemed a bit overpriced. The pasta is excellent. We tried a few dishes. The drinks are great - especially the Italian Manhattan. Tried it once; probably wouldn’t go back.

Great service but especially, fantastic food, surprisingly, ordinarie sounding dishes were memorable

Theme: " I love you, Dinner"? I had a lobster in the same place somewhere else where you did not think I went. I had a scorpio and it was a great lobster. It was great music night with Chic Le freak band without personalities, like vocal coach, the waiters knew the wine and I could order without interference from the staff, everyone looked good, and my date was happy, but she did not want a 200-dollar wine, that took years, a while to settle.

Enjoyed the Hureau Shannon Blanche 2014 $16 glass. The chicken liver mousse had a beautiful presentation and was very tasty. Shared the French Fries and the Burrata

Excellent food and service! Frittata, cardio Pepe highly recommended. Cocktails were delicious as well😋

Place seems to take itself too seriously. Creative food ideas which lack subtlety....bone marrow with anchovies? Despite the phone receptionist..."no table reservations available for 2 1/2 hours" on a Sunday evening.... We walked by, noticed Many Empty Tables (!) and were instantly seated. We we there for fresh diver scallops online and reiterated on the menu, however upon questioning ( info was NOT volunteered) the waiter admitted other scallops were currently substituted. Nice crowd.

Managed to sneak a place at the bar counter when the place was fully booked. Great location, nice layout and décor. Very attentive staff. Menu not very extensive, but food was excellent - especially the cauliflower dish. Hard to believe you can get so many mixtures of flavours into one dish. Fabulous

Charlie Bird is a great go-to spot that falls on the border of Soho and the village. The atmosphere is second to none, especially in the spring/summer when the outside seating is set up. They play great music that seems to make everything taste that much better. I would not recommend Charlie Bird for brunch, however it is an excellent dinner spot for a date or small party. I often avoid the long waits by sitting at the bar and enjoying the conversations. The wine and drink menu is also on-point. It also Pricey = 4/5.

Being in the midst of a pandemic while anxiously awaiting the return of NYC restaurants, I was MORE than happy to have a celebratory dinner with friends at Charlie Bird. Prior to booking, I amended the reservation a few hours before and was warmly accommodated by the Maitre'd via text. Entry is stunning and energetic, thanks in part to a creatively crafted playlist of hip hop/r&b tunes. Now for the service and food: Storm was wonderful. Pleasant, poised, and suggestive. Her engagement, a large part of the experience. The food was flavorful, thoughtful, and seasonal. We shared a mix of the steak, trout, roasted chicken, cauliflower, hamachi, and salmon tartare. All usual dishes, separated by distinctive taste. Pleased. Restaurants like this are the pulse and heartbeat of dining in NYC. I'm proud to say, STOP BY!

Look the place was extremely noisy, my food was fine. My friend does not like cheese so she asked for a dish without and she was served pasta with tomatoes. Try again and try harder!

Good restaurant. Nothing bad but nothing super special about it either. We booked way in advance as we read some awesome reviews. It was certainly nice but not worth our excitement beforehand. Staff were ok, food was ok, very trendy. Don't feel the need to return but it's fine.

I tired Charlie Bird on a recent trip to New York for the first time. I had a pretty good experience. The food was tasty. I had some fresh East Coast oysters to start and a chicken dish for my main. I think one thing that threw me off about the meal was that they served some focaccia bread to start off that was dry and not light and fluffy. It's always a shame to start off the dinner experience with some dry bread, because it sort of sets the tone for the whole meal. Other than that, the service was fine with a friendly and attentive server and the atmosphere was buzzing. a mostly positive experience.

Went here with foody cousins while visiting NYC. They rage here - locals who frequent the place and know the chef, so when we dined there, we were treated to much amazing food. Love the small plates - Tuscan chicken liver crostini melt in your mouth. Bone marrow with anchovies and lemon is divine. Sweet pea and mint salad fresh and so tasty. Great vibe. Great wines. Not inexpensive, but well worth it. Must do!

Really good food, great atmopshere, friendly staff. If in Soho, make sure you stop by. Also good cocktails 😀

Jumping and crowded, kinda loud but loved loved loved the food. Portions are not large which is great. Menu is varied. Expect to sit alongside others and when you approach the hostess and she asks to take your coat, let her. Too crowded to put it onto the back of your chair or alongside the bench seat. Popular place

We stumbled upon this place per chance and enjoyed the meal very much. We did not expect such a pleasant experience so it was nice to have a surprisingly enjoyable early dinner.

Great dinner. The food is out standing. Wine list top notch with all meals. I try several dishes. Service was great. A must go place in the village.

I don't normally rate a restaurant by it's Farro salad, in fact Farro salad isn't something I'd even consider ordering, but as it came highly recommended by one of my dining companions I thought I'd give it a go and now I would actually go back just to have that! It's a medley of unlikely ingredients that just work so well together! I very seldom order roast chicken either, but I'm glad we did, it was moist and flavorful yet crispy on the outside- perfect by all accounts! We shared an array of small dishes all of which were unusual yet absolutely delicious. I always love encountering razor clams on a menu and their crudo preparation made me wish I didn't have to share. The service was flawless and the sommelier made a great wine recommendation which seemed to pair extremely well with just about everything we ordered! Will definitely put Charlie Bird on my list of casual NY favorites.

We stopped in here for lunch when a store clerk in Soho recommended it. Wine list was more extensive than food offerings...but that was OK as we're wine lovers. Service was excellent but it's very small and we felt cramped. I ordered a pasta dish (can't remember which one) and it turned out to be very good; but again...not my fav.

Honest, tasty food without the overstimulation of the monocular kitchen: The razor clams and scampi were cooked perfect and tasted accordingly - superb. We tried also the different pasta and the chicken, I will go back just to eat the chicken ...and of course take a few glasses of wine. Let yourself be guided by Arvid and you will not regret it. Service was one of the best - attentive, personal, warm, honest. We felt like in family and friends environment with the buzz of the City. Thank you Ray, Arvid, Kristen and the rest of the crew for the memorable evening...we will be back!

Great place to have good food and enjoy good vibes. No BS menu only delivers proper taste bud exciters and in good portions. Had a little bit of everything and concluded that you can't really go wrong with any item on the menu. My only issue was with the music as it was at such a level where you can only hear the deep bass levels, which is a shame because when you go to the restroom you realize how good the music they have.

This was our favourite restaurant out of 3 nights in NYC. Great food, ambiance and extensive wine list paired with a very knowledgable and pleasant sommelier.

The restaurant is really well located in soho and the food was great. The staff was nice and offered us water while we were waiting to be seated. Definitely a nice restaurant with the option to sit outside.

I’ve wanted to go back to C.B. for a few years now, after being taken by good friends who live in the Big A. Staying in TriBeCa in the summer seemed the right time to take our adult daughter and see if we loved it as much as we did the first time. The answer is an unqualified Yes! Even sitting indoors, the large airy windows look out to the sunny bustling seating area and the street. The service is excellent, but it’s all about the food! The razor clams, the complex, farro salad full of interesting complimentary flavours, tortelli filled with sweet peas, mint and flecks of prosciutto, moist suckling pig with peaches, crisp-skinned dorade and for me, the piece de resistance, chargrilled octopus with pistachio salsa verde. Magnifico! Accompanied by a fragrant Corsican vermentino. Only slightly disappointing was the lack of choice with any compelling desserts. Bravo!

Went to Charlie Bird because I had heard good things about it. We were with a group of friends that are very easy going. The food was very good but our server was not. Our server was not very attentive and a bit rude. We ordered quite a bit. Cocktails, two bottles of wine, appies, mains and desserts. It was not a cheap dinner by any means. I think service can really make or break an experience and after this I will think twice before dropping some major coin at this restaurant again.

Fluke, farro salad, steak for 2, turbot. Delicious. Great waitstaff. Small bar. Celebrity sightings...NYC fun

Haven't had a meal this delicious in quite some time, except for my wife's cooking! The staff is very friendly and accommodating. It is a small restaurant but probably seats close to 100. We ordered the Montauk fluke, octopus ragu spaghetti, bone marrow, Brussels sprouts and the pork shoulder. Everything was fantastic. We went at 6:00 and when we left at 7:30 the restaurant was full. Slight downside is that portions could be a bit larger for the price. We will go back!

Went back for dinner at this restaurant as I had a good experience about a year ago. Service is outstanding. Cocktails are great, especially the one with tequila, aperol and grapefruit juice. Not sweet, just perfect. Had a nice salad to start and it was enough for 2. Followed by the pork shoulder, which was cooked to perfection with nice sauces. Grilled artichokes as side were fresh and tasty. Main menu seems limited in terms of choices, but the dishes they do offer are absolutely great.

This is a very good restaurant. Not a huge menu but what they make, they do very well. Fresh ingredients and neat atmosphere. Wine list by the glass is limited and there was some harsh rap music playing but the overall experience was positive. I agree that the service was slow but this is a leisurely type of place to spend time with friends, not rush. If someone asked me for a spot in that neighborhood, this would certainly be on the short list

Outstanding food starting out with great bread and butter; black cod for me was amazing and just right; daughter's octopus excellent and I don't remember the rest of the items but very well done and daughter and my husband very happy! Service very nice, airy table near windows that were open and a pretty place. We would have preferred a table near the street but still inside but having the baby with us probably had them prefer a different location which was still a good table. All good but VERY pricey,,, $175 for three people before tip is pricey, even in SoHo!

Clean and bright on a cold morning, great spot for unique egg dishes and great coffee. Cinnamon rolls are amazing!

The ribeye for two is supposed to be a specialty, requiring a considerable wait for the supposedly amazing steak that costs $100. It arrived cold, and the waiter disappeared. The rabe and onions were terrific, as were the razor clams. The pasta, however, was uninspired. The restaurant, though not crowded, was very noisy. I won't be returning.

Been there a couple of times and Charlie Bird does not disappoint. Mostly local fare like razors clams from Dobbs Ferry and Montauk fluke and bass. Also seasonal produce: ramps, favs beans, garlic scapes in the spring. The roasted chicken is succulent with crispy crackly skin. Extensive sometimes pricey wine list. Very good for groups as they have small plates and larger ones. The service was really good especially when we asked for the Cacio e Pepe which was not on the menu that night. The chef made it for us anyway. We sat outside on a nice night. Only little issue was the noise level: subway roar was a too loud. The inside can also get loud. Lucas our server and the very nice manager were lovely. The sommelier was also helpful. We will be back!

We went to Charlie Bird for a birthday celebration. The perfect choice. The atmosphere is cool, relaxed and the service was superb. The four of us loved our dinner and left knowing we'd be back to Charlie Bird again and again.

We had supper at Charlie Bird on Sunday Aug 27th. It was a great experience. The food was delicious, from the Squash Flowers through to the Clam Pasta and the Black Sea Bass. Excellent service with much attention to detail and a high level of care. The atmosphere was really pleasant as well. Relaxed without being too informal or too casual. I would love to go back there one day soon.

After trying all year, to get a reservation here with no luck, I finally used a weekday summer night to snag a table here. Given the hype, the place was somewhat of a disappointment. The service was great, but the menu was rather limited and not cohesive in its food style which is confirmed by disparate online reviews calling it "Contemporary American," "Italian," or what I would call "Eclectic Farm to Table." I struggled with the menu, finding it kind of weird with nothing recognizable, but often when I am forced to order something different, the food is amazing. Sadly, the food here was good enough for a neighborhood place to fall into, but not terrific enough to merit the high prices and hard to get reservation.

We were recommended to come here by two different New Yorkers and I can safely say we were not disappointed. The service, food and ambiance were all perfect. All the staff were super attentive and the food was delicious. The oysters were some of the best I have ever had. It will be a go to everytime I go back to NY from now on.

I met up with some friends at the bar for drinks and oysters. We then decided to stay for dinner. The restaurant has a casual modern decor with seating by the window and in the middle ( communal style). The service was excellent, our waiter was energetic, patient and extremely friendly. What made my evening was the gluten free pasta made in house. We shared several entrees and I must say while the portions were on the smaller side, the taste and the quality justified the expensive price tag. The crispy chicken was juicy and delicious. The razor clams were so refreshing, everything we had was excellent. I can't wait to go back. I give it my GoldnAdvice seal of approval.

Yes! A really super restaurant that lives up to the reviews. Very good service, nice ambience, good vibe to the place. The food was really very good. The suckling pig pasta was very good, a bit strange to have big chunks of pork I. The meal, but very tasty all the same. Good wine list. Highly recommended.

It's not very often in New York City that you can say everything about a restaurant is amazing but I can say that about Charlie Bird. First, let me begin with the staff, Amazing!!! A huge shout out to Patrick the GM, you are outstanding! Secondly, the Food, mind-blowing, an explosion of "yummi-ness" in your mouth! Lastly, the playlist- DJ Charlie from the Bronx just makes you want to dance on the tables all night long(unfortunately that's not allowed but, again, it's amazing). I can't recommend it enough, who am I you may ask, why should you listen to me, well it would be your loss, Charlie Bird is the SPOT!!!!! Thanks for a wonderful experience.

I was in the neighborhood of this restaurant and decided to try this out. From the outside it is a non descript building and restaurant. Got a cozy seat. It is typical Manhattan - so tables are squeezed in. The service was wonderful. The food was amazing. I was told that the chef grinds spices in the restaurant. It was really tasty Italian food. The wine selection was excellent as well. All ingredients for a good dinner.

WOW, what a great meal. The food and service was terrific. The wine selection was fantastic and the atmosphere is electric. Definitely a place to dine among the beautiful people of NYC. The only negative is the noise. If you are looking for a nice place to have a conversation, probably not the spot for you. We will for sure be back and look forward to visiting again soon.

Flawless service, straightforward yet foolproof menu, excellent wine list and bright atmosphere. A perfect casual place to have a delicious meal and enjoy local produce and New York community. Ordered almost everything on the menu to share among four of us and every single dish was a pure delight.

Had looked forward to visit. We were offered 2 table options, both of which were awful. The least worst option had a door near our table leading to the outside repeatedly opened with 83 degree heat outside. Food was good but it took forever for our appetizer to arrive and even longer for the main. At one point, the sommelier told us our dishes would be plated next. Food didn't arrive for 15 minutes. No one ever asked if we enjoyed the meal or it was properly prepared. They obviously could have cared less. On a positive note, sommelier suggested a bargain red wine for dinner which was terrific. With so many great restaurant choices in Manhattan, I cannot imagine why we would return.

We had a 9:45 p.m. dinner reservation on a cold Saturday night, and, not surprisingly, the restaurant was packed. (Location tip -- although the address is on King St. the actual entrance is actually on Sixth Ave.) Sometimes with a "buzzy" restaurant you get shortchanged on attitude, service, food or all three but the thing with this place is that somehow, even with a full restaurant and not a lot of space, they managed to get everything right! I had to call to push our reservation 15 minutes later and the staff who answered the phone couldn't have been more gracious. In fact, when we arrived, they actually thanked me for calling (while we were grateful they could accommodate us)! We were seated immediately in the little room a few steps above the main dining room. Space was tight and the noise level was loud and it made me worry that this would not be a great dinner experience. I was soooo wrong. Our server appeared right away and took our drink orders. He cheerfully suggested a non-alcoholic option for a "mocktail" when my hubby asked if there was anything like that they could make (it wasn't on the menu). A nice cold bottle of water got delivered to our table. Service throughout our meal was on point, exchanging that almost empty water bottle for a nice full newly chilled one without asking, for example, or coming by with a damp dishtowel to wipe the table between courses. And then there was the food. As a starter we shared chicken liver toasts, which were nicely sized slices of ciabatta topped with a generous spread of luscious chicken liver mousse and topped with pear and highlighted with rosemary. Truly delectable, memorable, and craveable. As entrees, hubby went for the crispy pork shoulder which he said was just terrific and I had the roast chicken which was accompanied by more of the liver mousse and a salad with crispy bits (not sure what they were, maybe chicken skin) and a few potatoes. The chicken was for sure in the top three chickens I've ever had (maybe even the best one) and you might have thought that the chicken liver would be too much but it surely was not. It was moist in all of the right ways and crispy in all of the right ways and tasted like sophisticated comfort. So we had to try dessert. There were two options so we each got one and split them. The olive oil cake and the chocolate budino were both subtle and rich in their own ways. Normally I would not look to return to a place that is crowded and loud, but because the service was just so terrific and the food was just so darn good, I cannot wait to visit again.

4 of us went the Charlie Bird for dinner. They had a lot of nice small plates that were very creative dishes. Blue Crab toast and Tuscan Chicken liver small plates were very good. I had their Penne Pasta special with homemade sausage, very good too. They have a nice wine selection. The Vodka they served was an organic Vodka from Wisconsin. Can't remember the name but it was very smooth. They play some fun hip hop music which adds to the atmosphere.

We were a party of 6. Visited the place on the evening of the 24th. The chicken lever was absolutely disgusting!!!, As was the BURRATA!!! The fries, burned. The pastas... tried the verde and bucatini, mediocre and less. The salads were poor. The carrots dish horrible! This was without a doubt the worst place we have ate in, since arrived to NYC. Stay away.

It wasn't too crowded when I arrived. That's always a relief! The Spaghetini Nero was delicious, and featured succulent blue crab. Nice price and great service.

The vibe as awesome, music selection was perfect ( old school hip hop ). We were a party of four so we decided to order many items so we can share them all. Appetizers were done nicely - octopus stood out to be the winner and Farro salad was to die for! Entrees were just ok! Rib eye was overcooked ( we ordered it med rare ) and came out medium but it was plain...Sea bass entree was uneatable- so much salt and fishy- and I love salt. Gnocchi were ok and tiny. Service started off perfect- then mid-way our server told us he was leaving and another person would be taking care of us. Kinda weird.... Overall experience was good- stick with appetizers but the vibe was one of a kind...

Subtle excellent service with an interesting and varied menu. Great decor. Good wine list. cocktail too strong for me but the waiter dealt with that smoothly. TheroChicken was the unexpected highlight.

Easy to see why some people feel its doesn't meet expectations but this is a great place for social gathering and plate sharing in stylish surroundings but with rap beat sounds. This place is for the young or young at heart. I really like the simplicity of the menu, and enjoyed perhaps the best Tortellini ever. Excellent wine by the glass too. We went as a family and felt relaxed and welcome. 5 stars for me but not everyone

Charlie Bird is my go-to restaurant downtown- always sure to provide a cool happening vibe with their awesome playlists, and the food is sure to overdeliver. Chef Hardy has made me love vegetables that I haven't eaten in years- and it is one of the few places I would even order the chicken! The crudo is always so fresh and bright, and the pastas are homemade and taste like Italy. And then there is the star of the menu- the farro salad. Love love love! I come for the food and the energy, but am always impressed by the happy helpful service who go above and beyond to keep you informed on the menu, and keep your meal on track. Such a solid and constant star. Love this place!

This was our first visit to Charlie Bird. We had a very nice dining experience. We were two couples that each ordered a starter, pasta, main and dessert to share. The burrata and farro salad were delicious. The lobster and cavatelli pasta, so good!! Our table could have eaten another bowl of the pasta. We ordered the crispy pork, which was very tender and flavourful, and a side of the broccolini. The pasta portions are small, and are really an appetizer size (too small to share for two people) however enough for one person but not as a main. The entrees are also on the small side as well for the price point. I can’t remember what we ordered for the dessert, something chocolate that was delicious. Maybe a budino? Restaurant is small, tables are quite close together. It has a cool vibe, good music and great service. This restaurant is located in SoHo. Reservations can be made online, however there is a fee. If you do pay the fee, they do provide a glass of prosecco for each guest. We would return to this restaurant for more pasta and farro salad! Enjoy!

We stopped in for a late afternoon lunch and were very pleased with the food. Our Hamachi and Lunch Little Gem Salad were ideal appetizers and the Chicken and Tonnarelli Cacio were nicely prepared--with great flavor. Our server was knowledgeable about wine and thoroughly enjoyed discussing it. The windows allow the sun to stream in during the afternoon--which creates an upbeat and bright atmosphere. Check out my photos for more details.

Two friends insisted in having dinner there, as it was difficult to get seats and the place was supposed to be great. THEY WERE RIGHT. This is a jewel. Service was a little bit slow (but always politye), but the food was OUTSTANDING. Can´t say enough good things.

Wow, what happened to Charlie Bird??? I've been there before and everything was killer -- food quality, service, vibe. It used to be so great that prices and portions didn't even factor into the equation. Now everything is so-so (at best). $35+ meat entrees were tiny, TOUGH and lukewarm. Price was WAY out of whack with experience. Sadly, this will be my last visit.

We ate here just before Christmas and it was outstanding from the very start. The Champagne by the glass was fantastic. My first course was a salad called Farro I think, it was incredible, really incredible, you’ll never have a salad like this again. My main course was a simple roast chicken but again it was cooked to perfection. The wines were without a doubt the best we tasted in America on this trip. I hadn’t expected this experience to be so good.

You have a choice of inside or outside, we decided inside. Clean lines lovely appointed table and good cocktails. Easy menu with a variety of choices. Decided to just have a simple salad which was very close to a Caesar but certainly not called that and a pasta dish with very fresh vegetables. My friends had the oysters and bay scallops for appetizers. For their entrees it was the pork chop and the fresh fish....yes it was $$$$ but so is all of NYC.

This restaurant is a must when visiting New York. There wasn't a disappointing aspect to the meal. The only criticism would be of the music...a bit too loud for me and older rap (not a fan); but don't let that dissuade you, the food is fantastic. Eat the focaccia when they bring it to your table. Warm, drizzled with just the right amount of olive oil. Just heaven. We shared the eggplant with tahini and a gem salad. Both excellent. The gnocchi were small light pillows of tender dough tossed in just the tight amount of sauce. If it were not considered rude I would have literally licked the plate. It has a bit of a spiciness to it but not so much that it overpowers or spoils the taste. The chocolate cake with the olive oil ice cream and rice crispies was the perfect finish. Do yourself a favor and visit.

Busy and noisy. Helpful staff. Food was good. Small portions that I thought were salty. Pasta was homemade. Ok for last minute reservation.

Stopped by on Sunday for a late lunch. Although our waiter informed us that the appetizer salads were quite small, I was still shocked by the minuscule portion of the Burrata with spring asparagus. Some runny Burrata with one asparagus which was shaved in 4 longitudinal pieces and 2 asparagus heads seemed awfully small for its price tag. Waiters and other staff were friendly but service was mediocre and our plates did not come out at the same time. I write reviews fairly regularly and mostly refrain from posting comments but value for money here was abysmal.

Big Expectations of this place. Very crowded, extremely noisy but great atmosphere. Food standard was mixed. Great suckling pig, forget the langoustines, ridiculous for $36. the crowning glory were the only two deserts on offer. Panna Cotta (the best I've tasted) and the small chocolate cake with olive oil ice cream (amazing) Expect a big spend here.

CB is really one of the best places you can find for dining. Starting from the vibe of the place, the music is cool, they are crazy for hip-pop. Cocktails are excellent but I am not a fun in general, what drive me crazy here is the wine list. You really can drink by the glass the best of the best, meaning from the world, of course the focus is the old world. Somehow they have even wines they are usually extremely allocated impossible to find. If you want more ask for the bible and there you really can find crazy things. Turning page you got the menu and here the chef Ryan knows his stuff about pastas and Italian flavor. Nothing here is wrong and every dish is focused on good ingredients, simple taste e texture, perfect! I think I got addicted to the Focaccia ;-) made on the genovese way I believe I have been here 6 times already and they never let me down

Good food, great wine, great atmosphere - you can't go wrong here. I could go back every day! Definitely book it

Charlie Bird is simply a great restaurant. The menu is not large, but every item is interesting, creative, and perfectly prepared. The Brussels sprouts were the best I have ever had. The service both at the front desk and at the table is as good as it gets. The wines by the glass are very decent and fairly priced. You need to make reservations two weeks ahead, and with good reason -- lots of people know that this is a great place to eat.

Honestly, I thought I was going to love it here, but I was very much let down. The service that everyone raved about was nonexistent. Our server just disappeared halfway through dinner. My rigatoni pasta was very undercooked - hard. It look at least 10 minutes to track down another server to help. My boyfriend was halfway through his meal so they offered to heat it up while mine was recooked which was nice. The second go at my pasta was equally as hard and chewy. They said "must just be the pasta type"....ok? That's definitely not how it works. At that point I just ate it out of hunger. My boyfriends crab spaghetti was edible, but not good. It had some sort of shredded crab which was distasteful. They took my pasta off the bill, but I will not be going back. Not worth my time or money.

I had high hopes for this place but slightly disappointed. The food was good and the service was great, but with so many options in NYC I doubt I will be back.

Although the restaurant isn's particularly large it had an open and bright feel about it. The food was excellent. We really enjoyed the Montauk Fluke Crudo was bright and light. And then to balance that I had to have the rosemary and sea salt fries. We went mid afternoon and had some good wine a few dishes and enjoyed ourselves immensely.

We decided to try Charlie Bird while visiting NY over the long weekend. This place has a great vibe and lots of energy. The design and music add to the overall experience. We had a semi private table at the top of the stairs with a great view of the main dining area. The brussel sprouts and pork belly were amazing however we found all the food to be just a bit too salty. Although we visited in the winter it looks like their patio would be amazing in the summer months.

Expensive, but interesting and excellent food and service. We live on the Upper West Side of New York, so going to Soho is unfamiliar to us. We would come back to this restaurant.

Charlie Bird is actually quite a nice restaurant with good decor and friendly service. The food was fine especially the pasta dishes. We ordered a few dishes to share, which would be a good way to experience food in this restaurant. However, I am not sure if it is worth $20 per head to use the Resy app for a reservation at this restaurant. The food was nice, but not sure if I will go out of my way to eat here again.

We really enjoyed our dinner here. The service is fast and the staff are friendly. Portions are large and drinks and food are excellent.

Great vibe- relaxed but attentive. Went for brunch- delicious food and many choices. Small plates or bigger plates- Interesting wines. Something for everyone- kids welcome too!

Interesting how 5 king st is actually on 6th ave... Had dinner with business friends and enjoyed the cool ambiance, excellent service despite one minor hiccup but the food was terrific. We sat in the bar room which had two rows of tables. They have a small bar I had the marrow bone starter which reminded me of my mothers cooking. We then shared the pastas which were cooked al dente and seasoned and sauced beautifully. For the main I had the crispy pork shoulder that was delicious. The wine list was small but diverse - we enjoyed a priorat.

There is a reason this is considered a "foodie" restaurant. Yes it's a but pricey, but so is everyplace in NYC. Cocktails were excellent, and all the food was fantastic. We ordered all small plates and shared between us as dinners. Our waiter was great-we ended up ordering more as the night went on and they were more than happy to have us there all evening. Great for couples, friends...great atmosphere.

Charlie Bird is a cool restaurant in a cool neighborhood, reservations are a must. The menu is somewhat limited, but everything is expertly executed and you will want to try as many dishes as possible. Really notable for flavor and presentation were the Sea Trout Tartare, the Tagliatelle, The Grilled Black Bass and the Lamb Loin. They do a fabulous job with vegetables. Service is attentive and easy going at the same time. Wide ranging wine list with many unusual choices, plus a full bar. Definitely worth a visit.

2nd visit. After 4 years. Exactly how I remember it. Was an evening visit for coffee and drinks. 4 of us. Inside was too loud, a cacophony- crap loud music. We sat outside. Service was excellent. Love the wine glasses here with the thinnest of stems. Overall it was okay this time. The coffee was almost cold. Had to send it back. The replacement wasn't warm either.

Good menu with some great items. Location is great and the atmosphere is quiet and intimate. Other sites list poor service and snooty hostess, but our visit was very pleasant with great service. The only item which was rather strange -- we ordered a bottle of wine and instead of leaving it to chill by the table they took it somewhere and would then fill your glass at seemingly random times. Anyway, I'd just prefer they leave the bottle at/near the table like normal.

Service fair, food fair-did not live up to the hype. We heard it was a must try but there are many places we would have preferred. Pasta soggy, portions tiny.

I’ve heard so much about this place and finally had dinner here this week. E had a very Delicious dinner! Great spot downtown with nice views. The outdoor seating is awesome for summer. It was my first time but definitely not last! All the pastas and roses were great!

Saw the reviews of this place on Eater NY and wanted to try it. The food was good, but not necessarily exceptional. I thought it lacked a bit of the ambiance that I enjoy when dining in NYC. The service staff were exceptional however. I would definitely return.

Loved the chic space and the overall vibe of this restaurant. Surprised by the very limited menu, but there were a lot of exciting offerings. The chicken liver was luscious and melted in your mouth. We also really enjoyed the octopus with the unexpected mint. The cavatelli was a nice sized portion of with a hearty sausage ragu. They have a nice wine selection. Service and pace of meal was excellent. An overall enjoyable experience.

On a hot Sunday afternoon, we stopped by for some refreshments. After peeking inside and not seeing anyone, we decided to sit outside with a few other filled tables. We the waited about 10 minutes for someone to take our drink order. We decided to just get a bottle of Prosecco which was overpriced for the quality, and an appetizer portion of langoustine, which was tiny - maybe two bites. Nothing special about the drink menu or the service.

We went for lunch and discovered a wonderful scene. Not too crowded or noisy. (Not sure about the night hours). The vibe is modern and sophisticated. The ambience was wonderful and the staff couldn’t have been more attentive. The fare is creative and delicious. Our meal began with complimentary bottles of sparkling and still water. A nice touch. I ordered the Gnocchi Rosa – light pillows bursting with the sublime flavor that you pray for when you order this dish. The ricotta, basil and Travaglini tomatoes still come to mind as I reflect back on this most memorable gnocchi. My husband had the crispy half chicken with herb salad. The chicken exceeded expectation – both white and dark meat so juicy, warm and tender, it oozed with favor, enrobed by a warm, crispy herb crust. The side salad consisted of basil leaves, parsley, and thinly sliced radish. He told me it was light, refreshing and palette cleansing. We shared a side order of warm Roman artichokes with Romesco and lemon that transported us back to the Jewish quarter in Rome — crispy, crunchy, and salty but no so much as to overpower the artichoke flavor. Romesco is a nut and red pepper-based sauce from Catalonia that complemented the artichokes beautifully as did a squeeze of lemon. We were tempted by the Winesap apple olive oil apple cake with marscapone and salty oil crumble, but the generous portions left us completely satisfied and little too full. Overall, A classy place with exquisite food. We will return

Delicious food- we shared the carrots as a side and both had a pasta dish each. Only two choices for dessert which seemed a bit odd but the chocolate cake was really good. The atmosphere wasn’t quite our style, really loud rap music with lots of swearing. It was weird going to the toilet- very dark, loud music with same frequent swearing. I don’t mind swearing but isn’t what I expect when going to a restaurant, but I guess that’s what they’re going for.

Charlie Bird is subtle. You won't realize how serious they are about their wine - unless you know enough to identify the most expensive wine glasses commercially available are on your table. Or you are fairly knowledgeable about wines, in which case you'll be blown aware by the quality (and reasonable prices) of the wine list. And you might not realize just how great the food is until you taste your way through a few offerings and realize how they subtly tweak classic Italian dishes with a modern twist. Of course what you will immediately notice is the old school hip hop, good looking crowd and the busy atmosphere. Charlie Bird is a fine restaurant for a new generation of diners, who don't need or even want white tablecloths, formal servers or a hushed dining room. If you want terrific food and one of the best wine lists in NYC, come here.
Food, Wine and Atmosphere all in one.
Lively, SOHO spot with vibe that spills out into the street. Great menu offering lots of sharing of plates and drinks plus a great wine list to compliment the food. Every dish was unique and yet complimentary which I love. Got lucky and got a wonderful booth that seats 5 and looks out into the restaurant. And excellent and attentive service from all. Adding this to our NY favorites.
