The place is run down and not very clean. The doors are open on two sides of a really busy corner, so there's dust and noise from the street. The food choices are really unhealthy, and not so cheap when you consider that they're not spending much on the ingredients. Almost everything is bought packaged and heated up.

I have passed Chelsea Papaya for years and was in the neighborhood for the start of The Great Sautier Walk for MywalkinManhattan and decided to come here for breakfast. What a breakfast! I had three huge pancakes, two scrambled eggs and three pieces of bacon with a medium Papaya drink for $10.00. The food was delicious and perfect for the long journey around the island of Manhattan. The pancakes had that nice malted flavor to them and the bacon was really crisp. The eggs had that nice flavor of clarified butter and the grill. The whole meal was wonderful. The only problem was that they would not let me eat it inside and I had to eat it outside on these two dirty tables that looked like homeless had slept on them all night. They should have wiped them down better and swept around them a bit. Still the food here is wonderful and very reasonable. Just make sure that you can eat in side or take it down to the park on a nice day.

Though the name may very well be misleading to non-locals, Chelsea Papaya has a convenient menu of well-priced comfort food and a friendly staff. The lemonade is a tad too sugary, but overall, if you're in Chelsea and don't want to slash your wallet for Creamline or Schnipper's, go here for a good burger with a side of fries.

Fast food for breakfast. A wide range to choose from. Sandwiches, pancakes with maple syrup or coffee. Everything quickly and well presented.

Just a few blocks from my hotel, I ordered two hot dogs to go with sauerkraut, mustard, and relish. Quick service and delicious hot dogs.

I really enjoy going out for breakfast when I am starting my day in Manhattan and what I like about Chelsea Papaya is that their breakfasts are made fresh right in front of you. I had to be in the City early for work and wanted to have breakfast quickly but still relax to eat it. I ordered the Breakfast Special, which is two scrambled eggs with hash brown tater tots and wheat bread and I ordered extra bacon on the side. It was freshly made, really hot and delicious. Their prices are extremely fair and the guys that own the place are really nice. Try to snag one of the few seats by the window and eat your meal while people watching everyone who walks by.

But seriously, only 6 or 7 bucks for 2 hot dogs and a pina colada! Right off the 1 train's 23rd Street stop. Just note there are some tables but as far as I could remember, there weren't any chairs. But if you think I'll penalize them for something like that, then you must be crazy. But really, their hot dogs and pina coladas are to die for. (Don't worry kids, the pina coladas are non alcoholic!)

This place was a savior! We d get hot dogs every night after drinking. Very cheap, and delicious! And it's open until late at night.

Open 24 hours. Fast food burger/hot dog place in NYC. Good burgers, yummy cheese fries all cooked in front of you while you wait (very short wait). Polite, friendly staff. Yummy lemonade.

I will never order food there in my life again. I'm so pissed. My order wasn't compleet so I called the restaurant. I told him nicely that my orde wasn't compleet and what we were going to do about it. He told me that it wasn't his problem. He said you paid 21 dollars for your food and thats what you get. After that he hung up the phone. they are so rude THIS IS THE WORST RESTAURANT I EVER ATE IN MY LIFE. MY CHICKEN WINGS WHERE BURNED. THE ONION RINGS WHERE COLD, THE BURGER HAD NO SAUSE OR NOTTING!!!!! NEVER ORDER OR EAT THERE!!!!!!!!!

The burgers were juicy and tasty, the cheeze fries were also very good, fast service and clean restaurant.

I had a simple 2 $ hot dog. All beef, nice bun, mustard sour crute, onions and relish. Perfection!!!

Best hot dog you can get at 3 am after a long night hanging out at the club or nightclub. make sure to add some sauerkraut and spicy mustard!

Seriously, especially if its late at night, try the cheese steak. it is amazingly tasty for a crappy little fast food cheese steak. The lemonade is good too. I tend to pop in whenever I'm in the area for a quick bite on the run. Definately worth stopping if you just want something fast.

We lived around the corner and came every day for breakfast - 2x pancakes, bagels, toast with eggs and coffee for 26 dollars. A little chat with the boss or his employees - next to it a very friendly tobacconist to buy a NY Times and that Subway. The Papaya is probably a little insider tip - you can find pretty much every shift there. Just going in and spending a while there is great fun - great snack bar!

NYC of course has so many options for food. But for a cheap meal, there is nothing like a couple of hot dogs and a papaya drink. The Chelsea Papaya was close to my hotel and more convenient than the better known Gray's Papaya or Papaya King. The taste of the dogs were very similar to Gray's and the papaya drink was refreshing. You're able to be in and out in about 10 minutes and cost for 2 dogs and a 16oz drink will run you about $5.

Yeah, I'm sure you that can get better hot dogs at other places in Manhattan, but my wife and I always make a pilgrimage to CP when we are in New York because my wife used to live down the street and in the past we have stayed at a nearby hotel. It's fun to eat standing at the narrow counters that line the windows and watch the passing parade. Our favorites are two dogs (for each of us) with brown mustard and sauerkraut. My wife gets the papaya drink and I get the mango. Hope to see you there the next time we are in New York!

From the outside the place didn't present too many expectations once we entered we had to think again about the entire line of staff who were extremely courteous and 100% available to customize our burgers The burger is simple, freshly made, crispy fries and affordable prices compared to the New York City average If you pass through here, don't be fooled by the external appearance but enter with confidence

I guess this place is not known for its burgers, but I quite liked the bacon cheeseburger better than most of their other stuff. I had to go back there a second time before I left for the airport just to feel that harmony of tastes once again. Highly recommended!

I love stopping at Chelsea Papaya. The food is always fresh and the portion sizes are very fair and the prices are reasonable. It makes it a nice place to eat when you are on the run and need to stay on budget. I had their #4 Special Chicken Sandwich with French Fries and it was really good. The French Fries were cooked to order for me and the Fried Chicken Cutlet was really hot. The lettuce and tomato were fresh but did not add to the flavor of the sandwich. Still the sandwich was delicious and with the Fries, there is nothing like it. The place is a real gem.

Some times the best eats in NYC are the cheap eats. To be honest I was surprised how good it was. Just looking for something fast and cheap, and found both. The father and son behind me said they ate there the night before and it was Goodson they were back. Might not look like much, but food was great, cheap and fast. What more could you want in the city.

This place is the perfect venue to devour some quick and delicious fast food, particularly late at night. Hamburgers, hot dogs, popcorn shrimp and cheese fries are among the great fast treats you can get. Try some of the papaya juice too. It is all especially helpful if you went to happy hour and forgot to eat dinner!

Good dogs and papaya juice but Grays is better. Think I would make the extra trek uptown to get grays. Just saying!
late night snack
I wish we had a 2am hot dog option at $2.75 in DC. It is what it is, nothing fancy here. Don’t overthink it. Just get a hot dog with ketchup and mustard and be on your way. It’s the fuel you need to get through the night.
