the place is nice and confortable , the service is excellent, well maybe the a little pushy from the man who receives you at entrance . the food we had were fantastic , the 4 cheeses pizza was supreme better that the proscuito one, we had a pasta and beans soup that was delicious. the only thing i must criticize is the restrooms , they are 1 floor down and they just have ONE they put a little table with chairs and magazines for waiting but this is not nice. i recomend this restaurant for a nice family day

We had a very nice bottle of wine and dinner this evening at the Chelsea Ristorante. For one reason or another we haven't been here for years but this evening we enjoyed a beautiful meal of whole Branzino and a side of pasta, mixed salad and veal scaloppini ala Funghi. The service was impeccable and the restaurant was full which is a nice thing to see in the neighborhood!! All I can say is that we'll be back!

As a Chelsea resident for decades, and recently transplanting to Hell's Kitchen, I'm still constantly drawn back to Chelsea for friends, less frenetic touristy environs, and... Chelsea Ristorante! The owners are always there to greet and check up, the whole staff is charming (they remember you after only a few visits) and you are treated like royalty. The cocktails are large and well prepared (no mar-TINY's here), the food selection excellent, and consistently solid, especially for the price-point, and ESPECIALLY for Chelsea. One of Chelsea's few remaining under-appreciated hidden treasures. But don't tell anyone!

This place has been around for a long time and there is a good reason for it. The service is always pleasant and the staff always remembers us. The wine list is always a hit and the pasta is quality and original. I always enjoy the pasta and my cousin had what he called the best veal dish of his life. We went for a small celebration of family and friends and were treated extremely well. Jimie and Nino are great hosts! Everyone in our party enjoyed their food very much which ranged from veal to fresh pasta to chicken. Our dessert was sorbet and tiramisu! Delicious! Today, with many restaurants lasting just a few years or less, this restaurant, here since at least 1996 (my first visit there) has not only lasted, but prevailed and gotten even better! Ive been here several times over the years and look forward to going back and introducing more friends to this long lasting, quintessential, Chelsea Italian Ristorante.

Visited with family of 4. Were sat at large table at a rear spot, next to an even larger table of 16 other persons having a party there. The place was so noisy I couldn't hear the persons next to me. Asked to be moved but they wouldn't. Anyway, the food choice and wine selection was kind of limited for claiming being a 4-star place in NYC. The prices were not up to the quality received plus they billed an 18% tip on top of tax. Hello & Good bye.

I eat here as often as I can! I have been around the world and still find this wonderful restaurant to be one of the best! I have never once had a bad meal here. The food is top notch and their clams are the best, always fresh and delicious. I recommend this place to everyone the staff is wonderful, always friendly and extremely professional. They make sure you have a great time and that you are always taken care of. If you like Italian they have it all and everything from appetizer to dessert is amazing. Do yourself a favor and try this place you will not be disappointed. Everybody I have taken here loves it and returns on their own. Enjoy!!!!

We visited this restaurant with our son and his girlfriend on a Thursday evening. We did not have a reservation, but were given a great table. Food was very good, waiter was entertaining (we think he was a struggling actor). We had a very relaxed, pleasant, reasonably priced meal. If you are in the Chelsea area looking for a typical NY Italian restaurant meal, this is a good choice.

My friend and I ate lunch here and we both enjoyed our food. But when it came time for dessert, she (who lives in the area and eats at this restaurant all the time) said the desserts are just so-so. Soooo, we went next door to the little bakery and had dessert there!

The food here was amazing. The calamari was perfectly fried and not greasy. The accompanying sauce had a nice kick to it. The brunch sizes were perfect, and they had an amazing selection of desserts. Service was excellent!

Food was delicious! Service was excellent. Very attentive! We were in a rush to catch our ride and the service was so prompt! Can’t wait to go back.

Best Melanzane Parmigiana! and plenty of other great choices. We've visited here for drinks and snacks (great fried zucchini and garlic bread) and several times for lunch or dinner. Always felt welcomed, and always had great food. If you want something that isn't on the menu (linguine carbonara without garlic, for example!), they will make it if they can. If you want extra sauce, no problem. There is a bar, or you can eat at tables inside or in the open air on 8th Avenue. We sometimes get a free sambucca or limoncello, possibly because we are known, possibly because the proprietor is feeling generous. Good wine by the glass. Accept their recommendation on the pinot grigio. Be aware that the restrooms are downstairs, so go easy on the espresso martinis. .

What a wonderful family run restaurant! This was our second time here and the food is consistently excellent. They even have a wood burning oven. Celebrated our son’s 19th birthday dinner last night and our server (Donny) went out of his way to make it memorable and special. 🎉We can’t wait to go back! 😊

Food subpar.not impressed. I can’t think of 100 words to describe this experience….no flavor in the ravioli, lasagna wasn’t great.

After a train ride into the city & walking the busy Highline on a beautiful & quite warm late Autumn Saturday, we were all hungry but none of us were very familiar with the area, and we happened upon this little Italian place, which was small & inviting. We all ordered a pasta dish - all of us being from Italian families, we know good pasta & good sauce. Ristoranti Chelsea did not disappoint. All the pastas are homemade; the tomato sauce was wonderfully light. The service was very professional & very timely. I missed dessert because we decided to share it, but it was devoured by the time I got back from my Ladies Room break. Between the tasty food & the hospitality, we were all very happy we found them. I, for one, would definitely return if I'm in the neighborhood again!

Thoroughly underwhelmed. First night in Manhattan and was looking forward to some hearty quality Italian food. Extremely mediocre lasagna and a pizza served by borderline surly staff. Pricey too!

My wife and I were in New York right after Christmas to celebrate her birthday and our wedding anniversary. We were in the Chelsea district to see a play the night of our anniversary and wanted a small, intimate restaurant to eat before the show. Found this place by chance and loved it. It featured everything we love about traditional Italian restaurants that are genuine and family-run (or at least seem that way!). I had a pasta dish with clam sauce and my wife had a risotto. The good thing about these dishes is that they will actually serve you a half-portion- much appreciated by us! The caprese salad was great and so was the assortment of breads served along the way. Whenever I'm in Manhattan I drink, well, Manhattans and this one was perfect. A nice selection of wines (we had a bottle). A good ricotta cheesecake. It was a wonderful if unexpected anniversary dinner. Next time we are in New York we'll go back.

This gem is located on 8th Avenue between 15th and 16th Streets in Manhattan's Chelsea section. The service was excellent and the food was even better. Starters, including fried zucchini, Artichokes, proscuitto and melon and asparagus, were very well prepared and served in generous portions. Entrees including gnocchi with pesto sauce, veal valdostana, broiled salmon, grilled shrimp and a Margherita pizza with anchovies were all excellent. Portions are large so it is difficult to save room for dessert but it is worth it. Complimentary after dinner drinks were a great touch. While this was our first trip here and we found it almost by accident, we will definitely be back and it will not be by accident.

I've been in the West Village for decades but this is the first time I've eaten at this restaurant right near my home. I enjoyed the fried zucchini appetizer and the mushroom pizza (made with a brick oven). The prices are reasonable. I would readily return.

We visited Chelsea Ristorante 10/12/2021 (UK date formatting). It’s located right near Chelsea Market in the meatpacking district (I’ve said this on other reviews but Londoners think a posher shoreditch). I’ll start this by prefacing this was out last meal and we were flying out that night so it was a random find after visiting the market, it’s hadn’t been recommended or anything and what a GEM it was. I’m half Italian, so believe me when I say the food, place and vibe was so authentically Italian. The staff we so friendly and prompt and it was early evening so not too busy! 10/10 would recommend visiting here. P.S try the black linguine with Salmon was delicious!

This restaurant is amazing! The food was delicious and the staff were attentive and very knowledgeable on their menu and able to make recommendations . We ate here based on location and recommendation of hotel I was staying at. Great place and definetly worth a try if you are in the NYC Chelsea area.

Got reservation on open table at 8:30 on a Friday evening. Arrived on time and had to wait about 10 -15 minutes for our table. Quite right at a round table in the corner. We could not all three put our chairs together for a photo for instance because the table was too close to the wall The food was very good but they were out of the first appetizer we wanted (artichokes) and they ran out of the type of liquor my son requested They did bring us complimentary port with dessert which was nice

Upon the recommendation of my friend, 7 old girlfriends gathered for a reunion, in this nice little Italian restaurant. The decor is a little tired, but it was perfect for our loud group to go a little crazy while we dined. The waiter, Adrian, was very gracious and had a lot of patience for 7 noisy women. Since most of us were watching our weight, we ordered appetizers and entrees that weren't too rich in calories. We had grilled vegetables and prosciutto de Parma with melon and salads. Then we shared salmon, quail, grilled chicken paillard, chicken sorrentino. The service was very good and we all enjoyed the evening.

The ambiance of the dining room was comfortable and the service was very good. The food, however, was pretty average. The Pizza was pretty tasteless. The Calamari tasted like iut came from a bag. The lasagna was average and the finsh was overcooked. The only dish that was outstanding was the Veal chop which was large, perfectly cooked and delicious. Desserts were very good.

We'd planned to eat at Chelsea Market but it was all a bit too frenetic so we wandered outside and came across this place which was quiet mid-afternoon on a Saturday. There was a set menu which was good value but only offered one pizza option, however the pricing was reasonable and we ended up with two pizzas and a couple of glasses of wine. Service was quiet and unobtrusive, pizzas were proper wood fired and crispy, very decent. Wine was pretty ordinary. It seemed like the kind of place that would be busy as the evening progressed and probably deservedly so!

My friend and I landed here very much by accident -- but found the service was first-rate and the food extremely tasty. We sat outside, which was pleasant on an early summer evening. The service was very attentive--but they did not rush us at all. We started with the grilled veggies which were all nicely done, but not over-the-top exceptional. I had the seafood risotto, which was over the top exceptional. The calamari was cooked to perfection, as were the shrimp and mussels. The seasonings were perfectly balanced. My friend had a ravioli and said it was very good. The portions were very ample--so much so that dessert was not remotely tempting. My friend reported that the bread basket was sensational and it certainly looked and smelled delicious (but being gluten-free, I can't vouch for it personally.)

Two of us had a late lunch/early dinner here on a Sunday afternoon after a performance at the nearby Joyce Theatre. We found the food to be tasty in a rustic not overly fancified style. I had their wood-fired oven sea bass with sauteed spinach and a few roasted potatoes. The fish was tender and flavorful with garlic and herbs. My companion had the gnocchi served al dente in a delicious tomato sauce. We also had an appetizer and salad that were good and fresh but unremarkable. The peanut butter gelato bombe was excellent and perfect for two to share. They have an extensive dessert menu with pictures of the desserts which was great for us as we are dessert lovers! The service was sufficiently attentive but not particularly friendly. Portions were reasonable and perfect for us as we like to try and share a few items. No leftovers. The restaurant itself was cozy but the bathroom area downstairs could really use a freshening up, although it was clean.

We were looking for a place outside of Chelsea Market - a bit more authentic than the places to eat there - and were very happy to have found this restaurant very close by. I got the Rigatoni with broccoli rabe and sausage - delicious and nice and spicy - and a glass of house wine. Very good ambiance. Friendly staff.

Authentic looking Italian restaurant lacks in both service and the food has no pizzazz what-so-ever. The portions are pretty small so be prepared to rack up a sizeable tab ordering pasta and a main course to fill yourself up. The gnocchi were starchy and the tomato basil sauce was too peppery and the veal with artichoke hearts was blah, obviously the artichoke hearts were from a can. A wait staff that seems to give all patrons the cold shoulder add to a not so pleasant dining experience. It had the attitude of Milan, but the flavor of a rice cake.

called in without a reservation at about 9pm on a weeknight. Locals at the bar were enjoying themselves but otherwise very quiet. Staff slightly patronising (e.g. correcting my English pronunciation of "Merlot") and intimidating. Bread/olive oil + balsamic brought to the table was lovely. Pizza dull and soggy with little evidence of tomato in a margherita. The special, duck ragu with papardelle, was tasteless and dull also, stringy duck and glutinous ragu, papardelle was very good however. Shrimps good. Wine eye-wateringly expensive but good. We were politely but firmly urged out by about 10. Expensive and disappointing.

This place saved us. In town for a meeting with 6 others. We ordered out. 40 minutes after our food was to arrive, the restaurant from which we ordered told us--we had to call them--that our order had "been cancelled because we're too busy." With no reservation, at the peak of dinner hour, Chelsea Ristorante found a round table to seat us all and took care of us well throughout our meal--amuse bouches and free dessert wine at the end. Attentive throughout the meal. Homemade ravioli and tiramisu were excellent.

I eat lunch at this restaurant once twice a week and I am never disappointed. It is reasonably priced and I have never been disappointed. I normally have the veal milanese or the chicken with zucchini and peppers. The staff is very attentive and professional. This type of good old fashion Italian restaurant is disappearing from NYC every day.

Gemelli Amatriciana cooked perfectly al dente and the sauce was light, not heavy like some restaurants. The Branzino was deliciously flavored although cooked just slightly more than ideal. The service was friendly and outstanding. They make you feel at home. This is a solid dependable restaurant definitely worthy of a visit.

Happened to pass this restaurant at dinner time and dropped in. Good choice. Great atmosphere. Good food and drinks. Efficient service. I would recommend this restaurants to friends.

We eat here after spending a few days in NYC on holiday staying in the Chelsea neighbourhood. The first thing that blew me away was the service which is super friendly and attentive. The decor is really warm and cosy - a world away from the frosty places in this upscale neighbourhood. We ordered pasta and pizza and both were delicious like your Mama made. The only thing I would say is that this place is not cheap - but then I guess you get what you pay for!

Went here with my girlfriend recently on a weekend trip to NYC and we really enjoyed it! The food was delicious, the drinks were great and service was helpful. It's very nice inside and overall we really liked it here!

This Italian restaurant in the heart of Chelsea is truly a small treasure. The people who work there are warm, friendly and unbelievably remember you from one visit to the next! The ambiance is lovely, the bar lively and when weather permits, the front of the restaurant opens for outdoor dining. The food is well prepared and delicious. I've had fresh fish, wild mushroom risotto, and pasta and each was wonderful. The service is attentive. The wine list is well thought out and reasonable. Every time we go to the city, we eat at Chelsea Ristorante and suggest that you try it, too!

My second time ever to NYC. We had great pizza and Caesar Salad. We were greeted immediately when we entered the restaurant. The staff was friendly and the service was impeccable. The atmosphere was fun and relaxed. The beer was cold and never had an empty glass! I will definitely be back. Thank you.

I researched and read the reviews before having dinner , and I was concerned that a few reviews commented on rude staff . We had the most pleasant experience with great staff1 They were attentive and friendly . Our food was great , and the restaurant is quaint and family friendly .great service and a good option for dinner !

At first this seemed like a nice place, with reasonably comfortable seating and italian decor, but the lacklustre service was dissappointing. The pizza was okay if a bit pricey. The shock came when the waiter short changed me assuming I would leave a generous tip! I was'nt planning on leaving a tip at all. Needless to say I complained, got my right change back, and will never set foot in this restaurant again.

We had quite a large party (12) for dinner on a Saturday before a performance at the local dance theater. 5pm reservation and we were seated immediately when the entire party arrived. There was ample room at the table as well as the entire restaurant. Cozy, not crowded. Every aspect of our experience was wonderful. Appetizers, main course, dessert, all excellent. The service was first rate. You could tell the wait staff is experienced, knowing when to be at hand and when to stand back. The owner made a couple of appearances, when seated, when served and again when we were finishing up. Everyone enjoyed their choices with lots of sharing. While I cannot say what the entire bill came to, we were treated by the family hosting the outing, I was not shocked by the prices on the menu. Depending on your choices, somewhere from $30 - $50 per person would be common.

We walked a long way down 8th St. window-shopping restaurants and finally decided on the Chelsea Ristorante. The menu and decor was appealing for us - casual and enticing. It was fairly busy. I had a question about a certain cocktail and the waiter had the bar tender come to our table to personally answer any of our questions. The service was the same from everyone - friendly, professional & attentive. Food came fairly quickly, but not so fast that we felt rushed and it was delicious. The cost of the meal was reasonable for NYC and we returned several days later and enjoyed it as much the second time around. The next time we are in the Big Apple we will return.

Excellent service, the waiters were very attentive. The food was great, massive portions, I didn't even come close to finishing mine so they kindly offered to wrap it up to go. Prices were very reasonable considering the quality and portion size. Would definitely eat here again.

The staff/manager fussed over our party like I have never seen. We will be back because of the excellent food, great service and good price.

4 of us for dinner. All of us love Italian and Chelsea Ristorante exceeded our expectations. Service excellent. Food perfect. Go if you’re in the area.

Following a good meal which comprised of starters dinner deserts and coffee..one ofcthe waiters complained in front of the other waiters and customers that we did not pay a tip..in which we did by cash..rude..shame as this behaviour by staff lowers the rating of the restaurant..im hoping this can be addressed by management

Really enjoyed everything about this upscale but casual restaurant. I love restaurants that open up to the street, and also love to be treated like a local with warm attentive service from everyone. The food was delicious, interesting, and service very attentive and warm. . Places like this are such a great find! Really appreciated the management walking us to the door to make sure we were happy which we were and will be back as my partners NY office is across the street.

very friendly, four of us ate there, three pasta dishes and a pizza, all very good, will definitely go there again

I would call Chelsea Ristorante one of my favorite restaurants in New York. The service is a notch above what you normally get at a restaurant in this price range. I would give the food and service unqualified 5's across the board, but only sometimes would that be accurate. I've been there about 6 times over the past year. Sometimes the food is absolutely great. Sometimes it's just ok. So I would say the quality of the food you get definitely depends on who's cooking that night. You'll never be served anything less than a good meal, but it take a little bit of luck to get a "great" meal. One thing that never changes is the friendly, gracious and professional service. We always enjoy our visits to Chelsea Ristorante and I do recommend it for a relaxed family meal in a pleasant atmosphere. They provide a generous amount of buffer area between tables, which is rare in New York.

I am originally from Spain and also lived in Italy for a while. Now that I have been in New York for over ten years, I cannot say enough good things about this restaurant. The location, layout, outside seating most of all the service, not to mention the food, are fantastic!!!! Prices are also moderate and great value. I highly reccommend this restaurant to be added to your regular list. Thank you, Sergio

Enjoyed a nice well priced lunch at this local eatery. Not busy with tourists but plenty of locals, always a good sign.

Myself and my wife visited here during our honeymoon, spur of the moment (she had a hankering for 'proper new York Italian food' and the place we'd booked looked completely dead). We were both delighted to fall upon chelsea ristorante as it provided a fantastic meal, no tourists, just real New Yorkers eating lunch and the food was as good as the people watching! I had a real New York Italian cheese and tomato and basil pizza, which was stunning and so juicy! My better half had the lasagne which she said was also delicious, and the bread before and the biscotti at the end were both really tasty - the biscotti was complimentary at the end and a nice touch. As an added benefit, the restaurant sits across the road from New York Google headquarters so I could properly nerd out! The only problem was the waiter seemed a bit put out by my English accent, and was a bit grumpy when he brought over two lattes when I'd actually asked for a lager :-) but then as I say it is definitely a locals restaurant and I do sound rather posh, but overall a lovely place you'll be able to grab a good view of real New York

We discovered this delightful Italian restaurant a few years ago after a complete stroll of "the Highline" and revisited it recently. To paraphrase the poet Rupert Brooke - it is a small corner in a foreign field that is forever Italia! Great food, great vino, great staff, great service. Forza Italia!

We really enjoyed a wonderful meal at Chelsea. The service was excellent and food from the openers to dessert was excellent.

We dined on 7/23/11 with 2 adults and 2 kids. We all found are meals to be excellent and the portions generous. I disagree with the other reviewers. The service was really fantastic. The wait staff and assistants were incredibly attentive but not intrusive. The prices were fair. I liked the atmosphere and would return to this restaurant if in the Chelsea area again.

not bad not great average red sauce place great service, tired interior ordered lasagna-fine my husband ordered swordfish daily special chef said not available ended up w shrimp dish was good ricotta housemade cheesecake very rustic i didnt like it husband did. Very nice people but there are better places.

We were looking for a classic Italiam restaurant and this place wa spot on. The prices were reasonable and the food was delicious and abundant. It was a short taxi ride from our hotel and away from the hub bub of Manhattan. We were able to dine without feeling rushed. The service from our waiter, Adrian and all of the staff was attentive but not intrusive. Dining as it should be.

This italian restaurant offers a standard italian menu. I've particularly enjoyed their selection of deserts, couldn't resist getting a "bomba", which was marvelous. The garlic bread was too oily and thus a disappointment, lasagne was nice, though.

On the coldest day yet in NY, I had gifted myself a day at the theater. In between the matinee & the evening performance, I asked the person at the box office the evening theater to recommend a place where I could have a quick bite to eat. She immediately referred me to Chelsea Restorante. What a wonderfully warm & friendly place, from the maitre 'd to the bartender. I sat at the bar and saw all customers warmly greeted, some by name. I started with a mixed greens with a delicious vinaigrette, then went on to the spaghetti with chicken meatballs, along with ha marvelous Malbec. Delicious. Served & eaten by showtime! I even received a free plate of cookies 😊. Thank you for a great ending to a great day!

Arrived in NY for our first time last night, and this was our first dinner out. Great service, good food and people watching on 8th Ave. Scallopini al funghi and Vitello alla voldastano, nice chianti, complementary bread and biscotti made for a great introduction to NY dining

We used to live nearby and ate there at least once a month. Now we stop by whenever in town. The food is always delicious and the service is impeccable. Tell Niño we sent you. Great brick oven pizza and the rest the food is imaginative and outstanding. Perfect after prowling downtown galleries and shoppjng.

Food nothing special, servers kind of sleepy and bored because we came, approaching only when they really have to,18% service charge automatically on bill at 5PM and empty restaurant. Ok guys, we get it, won't come again.

Popped in after walking the Highline, needed feeding so late Sunday afternoon - excellent meal with no rush, beer, wine, starter, main course. Tip already added so saved the normal English embarrassment for undertipping!

fist of all, it was really great place for pasta and we went there very often. after we moved to another location, we did not go there for couple of years. BUT a week ago, our friend was visited us and we decided to go there to eat pasta. unfortunately it was not a good experience. pasta was too way overcooked and we told the waitress about it. the answer was - you ordered a fettuccine pasta and its big and really difficult to cook. really? we always ordering fettuccine because its our favorite pasta and yes we never ate a good pasta. that was absolutely not acceptable. btw, same people working there, and manager is still the same. we refused to eat it, and the guy told us - sorry. hmm, we really expect that manager would come and say something, but he was busy at the bar chatting with bartender. we paid bill, which is not a problem, but in this case they supposed to say something or do something. we did not eat our pasta because it was like a huge rock of dough. after spending so much money at this restaurant for so many years, i would not go there again. It was cozy italian restaurant with good attitude, and right now they dont care about customers.

We met our son here for dinner. Had calamari and zucchini for an appetizer. The zucchini was the lightest we'd ever had. We split an arugula salad, which was large enough for two. My pasta special had mushrooms and was the real winner. Wonderful service, great meal! Highly recommended!

Amazing owner, food was rich and good quality. Very helpful staff and kind owner. Amazing old fashioned restaurant.

I just had the best Grilled Chicken Caesar Salad! Sprinkled with a dusting of parmesan cheese and croutons, the flavors were absolutely delicious. I also had the carrot cake for dessert. Very moist and the cream cheese frosting was spot on. Highly recommended! The service was quick and courteous. I love how attentive they were. The wait staff refilled my water glass three times. I will definitely come here again.

This restaurant is a real gem. The staff are all excellent and busy. The menu is great and my branzino was perfection. Artichoke appetizer was very good too. But my espresso martini? The best I've ever had. Wonderful night. Highly recommend for date night. They offered us a kiss of limoncello to go, I hope they do it for you too!

We were looking for a nice restaurant to enjoy dinner at on our last night in town and we stumbled across this place, And what a pleasant surprise!! Very reasonable prices for this type of high end Italian food with a large selection! They bring out bread while you wait for your order and it was very fresh and tasty. The food was amazing and the service was great, i haven't had pasta that great at a restaurant before. They also have a full bar with a large wine selection! Don't skip this place while your in town, you wont be let down!!

People who really don't know Italian fod will pay the $23 for a small p[ortion of calamari. A real New Yorker would not. 'Nuff said.

Visited Chelsea Ristorante for lunch while in New York. Our party had pizza and salad. Salad was quite good, pizza average/nothing special. The prices were a bit high but as expected in New York City. Was convenient to the subway and Meat Paking District. service was good, not excellent. Would like to try it again for a more complete dinner.

friends that live in NYC took us here and its a great neighborhood haunt. Quaint, good food ,reasonably priced . we had gnocchi which was good ,but can always be a challenge.veal ,chicken and several appetizers ,all were very good . would definitely go back. they had reasonable wines also.

Was very underwhelmed. Food orders were wrong & when we questioned a mistake the waiter would not correct it. When another person saw the mistake they got another dish made but there was no apology. A member of our party ordered a desert but was not told that desert was not available until the rest of our deserts arrived. She was not given an alternative. Overall was really average. We will not be recommending.

This one was suggested to me by my iphone as we were walking in the meat packing district and we have returned to dine here on our last three trips to New York over the last year. Not to be missed are the bread, sauteed artichokes and Cornish hen (Galletto) from the wood oven. Great value for money. Competent and professional servers do a great job. There is seating outdoors on the sidewalk in pleasant weather, but we have always enjoyed the cozy interior. I wish them great success and look forward to eating here again.

Early dinner during Restaurant Week was amazing. On a rainy Sunday in August I am please to say that everything went great. The meal was well paced, the service was attentive, and we even got a window table. Granted attendance that night was a little sparse but that made the evening even more enjoyable. Restaurant Week at Chelsea Ristorante continues till the end of August. Its well worth a visit.

This is one of my favourite places to eat, in the world, ever. We were trapped in Manhattan by a tropical storm. No planes were leaving. We were hungry, we were tired, we were soaking wet. Forked lightning lit up the sky and there was no prospect of going home, not today, not tomorrow, and not, perhaps, the next day. Then we dropped in at Chelsea Ristorante. We ate, we drank, we smiled. Life was wonderful again. And if you're going to get stranded somewhere in a tropical storm, we reasoned, why not Manhattan? So we went back again the next night. I only wish the tropical storm had lasted longer. What a great restaurant, what great food, what nice people. I simply cannot recommend this great place enough. It's a long way from ym hosue to New York, but almost worth the flight just to eat that amazing linguine again.

Walking to catch the subway we came upon this little place and the collective thought was Italian....yes, please! Old school and comfortable, crisp white tablecloths and tile floor inside.....the way you want to sit and enjoy a good meal. Since it was close to when they opened we sat at the window.....they did still have the outdoor street dining set up. An order of lasagna and ravioli topped off with carrot cake......was just enough to get us thru the day. The food was delicious, the server(s) were attentive but not intrusive....

Friends and I went for an early dinner and were attended immediately. We were hungry and were pleased with immediate selection of breads. Restaurant has a very extensive menu and we had difficulty making selections. Roasted vegetables and eggplant parmigiana were great appetizers. Entrees were pasta made as was requested, ravioli, and chicken scalloping were excellent! Apple pie a la mode and carrot cake were very good! We were not rushed and were able to spend a nice time together! We were given an after dinner drink! I would definitely return when in area!

We were walking back to our air b&b and decided to have a quick bite to eat at Chelsea Ristorante. The mushroom pizza hit the spot! So delicious! We indulged in the lemon sorbet desert which was amazingly tart and perfect for a mid day treat. The menu was perfect and lots of terrific choices. We will return!

We had a great dinner out on a Friday evening - very tasty pasta special and glass of wine followed by a delightful tiramisu. We were made to feel very welcome by all the staff who were really attentive and friendly. Nice little extras included complimentary breads and almond biscuits. Great menu to pick from. Highly recommend!

This is a very pleasant restaurant with good food and attentive service. Where it falls down is on the portion size. I don't think it would cost them much to increase the size of their portions. Prices seem fairly reasonable but again portions are not what they should be. Be prepared to pay $12 to $14 for a glass of wine and much more for a bottle.

Definitely old school - in a good way. the classics done well. great non-fussy service and good value. What you remember Italian restaurants being like.

The place look crowded which was a promising sign. They serve me bread but it was stale. How does the restaurant serves stale bread? I didn’t have the veal Sorrento which was OK but I wasn’t terribly impressed. I didn’t order dessert but they gave me three little cookies which were great. I’ll eat elsewhere next time

This restaurant very near the Chelsea Market and High Line is the kind of find you are hesitant to tell others about. I went to the Chelsea Ristorante with a very famous New Yorker who has it on his list as one of the best places to eat. The service was attentive and gracious, and the plates were very well prepared. My meat dish was so delicious that my host had one bite and then ordered another plate for himself. Don't be afraid to take the waiter's recommendation, and do check out the specials. This is my go to place for a great meal in NYC.

We reserved a table with the hopes that our experience at a family owned "authentic" italian restaurant would be better than eating at a chain restaurant. The food was not bad at all and the service was satisfactory. The trouble started when we reviewed the bill. We discovered that the bill included a bottle of wine that we definitely had not ordered. After informing that waiters that the bill was incorrect, they huddled together at the computer to investigate. They came back to our table informing us that we were correct, the bill was in fact incorrect. What seemed odd to us was that they were not apologetic in a way that I would expect a restaurant to be if the mistake was an honest mistake. We left wondering if the error on the bill was intentional or not. Nevertheless, we will not be back. We left feeling ripped off and taken advantage of.

Sometimes when you are out dining with family you want a place where you can focus on that experience and this is just that kind of restaurant. Located mid-block the decor is staight forward and inviting as a friendly neighborhood establishment. To a person, the entire staff was focused on making the experience enjoyable. Great job! The menu offers up a good selection of options. The place was filled on a Thursday night with a good mix of local families and friends. I started with a Caesar salad and enjoyed Branzino Al Forno (whole fish), grilled with a small portion of sauteed carrots and potatoes. The salad was a little heavy on the cheese for my taste. The fish was grilled to crispy perfection on the outside and moist and delicious on the inside. Desserts are staight forward and we were suprised by a a plate of biscotti and a round of apperitif on the house! As a guest I did not get to see the final bill, but the menu prices were in line for the quality of the meal.

This place has everything you want from a neighborhood spot: busy bar scene, excellent service and food. We were a party of 5 and everyone enjoyed their meal: chicken parmesan, veal picatta, chicken scaloppine with mushrooms, and more. It has an upscale atmosphere but yet relaxed.

It was close to our hotel and it had great reviews so I went for it. Oh my goodness we were blown away. It’s a typical Italian restaurant that makes you imagine like you are in the cuisines of some Italian islands. The food is very delicious, the staff is really kind and they are very welcoming and very nicy. Above all kindly and very compassionate, manager Jimmy. I recommend everyone to visit New York and not miss that chance because you will not regret it. Jacky 🙂

Not because the food was not descent, because it was but: - there are other trendier, tastier, value for money-er, exactly in that same neighborhood. - because, like the touristic trap that this place is, they bill you for service,18% -because they push the liqueur over and over and push bottled water over and over - because they give you a lunch special option that you will never chose over the a- la- carte options - because it feels, that they have their own relatives write fictitious reviews about them and this nyc trend must stop..! Need I say more or do I even want to? Not really Skip skip skip

We were walking by and saw a burger at one of the sidewalk tables. It looked swell and we were well past lunchtime so in we went. The burgers we're out of this world, I think the best I've ever had and I am fussy about burgers. Fries too: I don't know what kind of potatoes they use, but they have a wonderful lingering taste. The place has lots more than burgers, and if it's all like the burger it must be grand.

This restaurant is right near my office, and I have eaten here twice, and enjoyed the fixed price lunch menu both times. For $20, you get a soft drink, choice of appetizer, and choice of entrée. The choices will be on the menu board out front. My first visit, I had the Papparadelle carciofi funghi, which is wide fettuccine-type pasta with artichokes and mushrooms, in a brown sauce. Absolutely delicious! My second visit, I had the Gemelli alla amatriciana, which is a twist-tube pasta with pancetta and red sauce. Was very delicious as well. Some of things I enjoy about this place is that I do not feel rushed, the waitstaff is very friendly, and you get a biscotti with your check!

Stopped here for dinner before a theater show due to recommendations from my in laws. We had a cozy dinner. The staff/management was very attentive. The food was delicious, especially the tiramisu for dessert!

I chose the restaurant after reading several TripAdvisor reviews as we were meeting our kids somewhere near 8th Ave. and 14th Street. I'm really happy we found it! It was early on Sunday evening and it was still reasonably empty when we arrived (much busier as we were leaving). We were greeted promptly and shown to our fable. Our waiter was very attentive, took drink orders, answered several of our questions about the specials and was very helpful. We ordered an assortment of appetizers and entrees and all four of us were raving about the food. A nice touch was when we decided to share two of the appetizers, they split the order for us in the kitchen (and each split order actually looked like a full serving). The pasta dishes, veal, carpaccio and salads were all fresh, well prepared and delicious. We all shared one dessert and our waiter then surprised us by serving each of us a complimentary glass of dessert wine. What a delightful evening!

this is a locals spot. great food. everything is done perfectly. it's not cheap but i recommend: the baked clams, the eggplant parmesan appetizer, the quail ... love it. i recommend this to all my friends looking for a spot near me and they all love it.

It’s exactly what you want: an established, family-run Italian restaurant in the heart of New York City. Service was exceptional and personable. The food was excellent. The ambience, wonderful. It’s the sort of restaurant where you want to linger, spend time with friends and enjoy.

Visited this restaurant last week for lunch and thoroughly enjoyed it. The complimentary bread was lovely. I had mushroom pizza, my boyfriend had minestrone soup. Both were great. The prices were reasonable too. I would definitely return, some of my favourite food from our trip to NY!

Stopped in Chelsea for lunch while vacationing in NYC. Very nice, clean place to eat. Both mine and my girlfriend's lunches were excellent. In particular, the chicken cutlet I had with a salad was the best I have had in some time. Prices were also reasonable for NYC.

I’m a regular at Chelsea Ristorante for good reason, it is one of the best in the neighborhood. Such good reason to keep coming back, food, service and quality. So many options on their menu suited for anyone. I have nearly tried it all and nothing falls short of excellent. I come here with my husband, friends and family - all whom love it. I live nearby and whenever I have visitors I bring them here with no doubt. I think it’s strange that anyone would write a negative review about this place, everyone makes mistakes and I’ve never been to a restaurant that is perfect but this place comes very close. The staff is kind, friendly, professional and always honest. Try it for yourself, you won’t regret it!

Enjoyed this restaurant for its wonderful cozy atmosphere, very good foood and wonderful servers! Nice comfortable bar with the best cocktails! They ahve kept the martini glasses at full size! Also a good place to go before or after a show. would recommend!

We usually stop here for drinks on our way to dinner around the corner. The bartenders are wonderful and the restaurant is always packed. We've never had a meal here, but judging by the amount of people dining I would suppose that it is wonderful. Don't be put off by the men in suits tidying up the place or straightening chairs. The bar is usually full but seats come available quite quickly. The crowd tends to be mature 30 somethings on up having a nice night out on the town. Smart dress is suggested!

We did our due diligence and consulted TripAdvisor to choose a restaurant for dinner. Food was acceptable, nothing remarkable. I was staying positive and hopeful and wanting to support a local restaurant. We got the bill, and saw a mistake. I’m pretty positive they tried to pad the bill - by 40 dollars.! When we questioned them they smiled awkwardly and they scattered. They adjusted the bill but the manager was no where around to apologize and the waiters were gathered as if to they were a gang. Watch out! Or better yet, choose a different restaurant.

You are not going to be blown away by this place. We weren't. Average food - pasta was served cold, we were sitting outside. Service was very slow. And the food really nothing to wrote home about. Had to walk all the way inside to pay at the terminal - who still does that? And inside felt industrial. Underwhelming

Chelsea Ristorante is one of our favorite Italian restaurants in Manhattan. Service is always friendly, food is always authentic and delicious, and the atmosphere is always wonderful! If you are going with a large group at a busy hour, be sure to call in a reservation. Enjoy!

This restaurant was a total disappointment. The food was mediocre, the wine by the glass was so bad that I sent back 2 glasses and then settled for a beer, and the prices are simply not a good value. They seem to "get" you on every little thing from bread to club soda. I arrived and waited at the bar for a friend, and ordered a club soda at the bar. While most would "comp" you for a squirt of club soda since you were having dinner, they added $3.50 to our dinner tab for the club soda. Overall, while the service was friendly, the food was barely mediocre and the bill for a simple dinner for two -- 2 salads, 2 entrees, 2 beers, 1 coffee and 1 tea was $130. NOT a good value. As the old song goes, this place is "a must to avoid" in the future.

Popped in here with family as people fancied pizza. The menu is slightly limited, no cream based pastas or calzones. Ordered a pizza with ham and instead got a pizza with Parma ham which I'm not a fan of. The pizza is more cheddar than mozzarella and therefore can be quite sickly. The base and crust could also be thinner. However the bread and garlic bread they give for free at the beginning were a nice touch and delicious.

Many thanks to Donny, Jimmy, Marco and Nino for two delicious dinners in a row. We felt welcomed, like we were eating with family. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. (We tried various salads, chicken dishes, grilled dishes and lasagna -- and the homemade tiramisu.) Their menu has something for everyone. We love their story. They are kind and they genuinely care. Give them a try! If we lived in NY we would be here every week.

We found this restaurant after walking for hours and taking in the sights. We checked out about 30 other restaurants during our walk but this is the place we finally decided on Chelsea Ristorante. We liked the open feel and the outdoor seating. Service was very attentive. Atmosphere was great and our food was delicious. A little pricey? No not for Nyc. Hope to find the time to eat here again.

Popped by this nice Italian restaurant for late lunch after walking the High Line north to south. It was a delightful experience for all 5 of us - and a great Italian atmosphere. We had everything from the very delicious safran/mushroom risotto, old fashion wood oven pizza and salat. In drinks they offer whatever you prefere. A good place for a Italian lunch break in lower Manhattan - although somewhat overpriced (>200 USD for a straight lunch)!

What a nice restaurant - although not cheap at all. I liked this restaurant, they didn't change their menu for NYE and we managed to get an early table even though we only booked that morning. Nice food, wine expensive but all-in-all a good experience

Went for a team dinner. Excellent food. Fairly priced wine. Not a huge selection but good quality. Service was very good and they gave us free porto and moscato with dessert. I will go back for sure.

We had a nice dinner, trying 3 different dishes and 3 different desserts. Everything tasted good, and the service was pleasant and accessible. Glad we gave this a restaurant a try.

The food is tasty, so well prepared, and the service is friendly and attentive. They have half orders of pasta, which we always love, and it always encourages us to have a delicious appetizer. Great eggplant parm, and calamari, and a nice arugula/fennel salad. Pizzas are a great appetizer as well.

this was probably one of the best pizzas i have ever had. service was outstanding. sat at the bar, ate pizza and had some cold beer. nice place. definitely going back soon.

Just celebrated a "Big" birthday with family at Chelsea Ristorante. Having discovered it on Open Table, I visited and decided on the spot it would be perfect for this special birthday. Nino was very gracious and assured me everything would be just as I wanted. Well, he was right! Food was excellent, selection of wines were more than adequate and very "drinkable"! We had a blast and would recommend Chelsea Ristorante to anyone who wanted a low key, friendly, and hospitable atmosphere for a relaxing dinner or special celebration.

The food is very good, I know there are many better places, but it was delicious and the bartender was very helpful and friendly. She suggested the ink pasta. It was a bit too cheesy, but tasty. They give you a little muscat and cookies at the end, nice touch. I would have liked more wine options, you order by the type, not the brand.

Everything was fabulous Gemelli, Fettuchini putanesca, veal Sorrento...and the miniature garlic bread was great!

This is a good Italian restaurant which expertly prepares a generous selection of entrees from quality, fresh ingredients. The service is attentive, helpful, efficient and friendly. We were a party of four ordering four different entrees and all were well prepared and presented. In good weather there are outdoor patio seating options. Recommended.

Nothing fancy here; food is always good, consistent, service is great; avoid the higher priced restaurants in the area, you won't go wrong going to this hidden gem!

We stopped by for a quick dinner after a full day sightseeing deciding on something simpler than a lot of the trendier places in the area. The service was great and the pizza was awesome.

A pleasant local restaurant with some great pasta and a good fixed price menu, with decent choices, at lunchtime. Good service and a broad menu are additional benefits. Would go again if in the neighbourhood.

My husband and I stopped here for a quick bite. The staff was very welcoming, and the food was delicious. We split a house salad, a chicken dish (it was the special with tomatoe, mozzarella and Marsala sauce) and a margherite pizza. Everything was delicious! We also had wine and sprite the Bombe dessert. I would definitely eat here again.

We recently enjoyed our dinner-quiet location and peaceful atmosphere. Prices were reasonable, and each dinner was perfect. Our waiter, Marco, went out of his way making us feel welcome! We will be back the next time we visit NY!

I was staying in Chelsea, and looked on TripAdvisor and Yelp, for a well-reviewed, Italian restaurant near my hotel. Everything about this place was lovely! The small patio seating, the very attentive staff, and especially the detail in the quality of food. I had the spaghetti alle vongole... and it was actually the little clams, like I get when I'm in Italy! I come to NYC a few times a year for work and for fun, will definitely return and will recommend to friends. Buon appetito!

got the caprese and the pasta special. Carpese wasvery good though I prefer more than one basil leaf and it is April so expected more flavorful tomatoes but the mozzarella was outstanding. The black linguine special with zuchini and shrimp was only so so and when I asked for cheese they brought me the dreaded cheese from a can not the fresh grated parmigiano reggiano. Service was great but of course I was there at 530 with only 3 other tables. Will try another spot next time.

If you are looking for a quick dinner in the Chelsea district this will suit. Reasonable selection of safe dishes, good quality, friendly service.

The food was room temperature and boring to the eye and the palate. The swordfish wasn't fresh. Two orders were wrong. At least the wine was nice!

Arrived before dinner time place was empty but since it's not badly rated in Tripadvisor we decided to try. Pizza was good but minestrone had some spoiled vegetables like when you boil soup over and over. Zinfandel was worse than the ones you get at 6 eleven. Service not warm or friendly. Won't wvwe return!

Great place, nice atmosphere and lovely food. As a family all needs were catered for. The pizzas are amazing and the pasta was great. All plates were clean at the end so compliments to the chef. The waiting staff were lovely too and to finish the meal we got a lovely ‘New York’ surprise!

Had dinner with a friend there while visiting in NYC. We were promptly seated. Good waiter. Knew the menu very well and answered our questions. We had a bottle of prosecco. very good. The bread is also good. Served with an olive oil and balsamic mixture at table. My friend had the homemade pasta--wide fetuccini noodles. I am forgetting what was in with it, but had a "pink" sauce. Tasted very good. i had chicken dish with Barolo wine sauce and mushrooms. Chicken was very tender and moist. We enjoyed the meal and sat outside. Waiters checked on us throughout. Water glasses were kept full. Overall a very pleasant meal. we were not rushed and felt relaxed there. Gave us time to talk and catch up with each other.

We got off the subway and stumbled across this restaurant and it was a perfect place to have our last dinner on our trip. The waiter really made it that more exciting. The food was so tasteful just thinking about it is making my mouth water. We also had some wine, which they have a large selection and a bar area as well. We didn't have dessert but they did bring us a very good cookie before we left. I think if more people knew about this place you would have to wait an hour for seating.

Nice spot, friendly service but mediocre Italian with skimpy portions. Good garlic bites set out to start...OK wine...starters of grilled veggies & fried artichokes (pretty greasy & tasteless) not noteworthy; mains of veal with eggplant (good), very nice ravioli and good branzino, so OK there. Kids loved the traditional sorbet in a natural frozen fruit cup, OK cappuccino...complementary after dinner drinks served...but all-in, compared to the many choices, had it not been raining and our original reservation cancelled, probably wouldn't have tried this spot. Plastic dessert menu w/photos sort of tells it all. Not bad, just not great.
Interesting
Overall this property was very good. The atmosphere was energetic and the meals were albeit small but very tasty. There were 4 of us and our bill was over $ 400.00. The food portion of that bill was about $ 90.00. By that proportion one could tell we were having a good time. I felt a buy back of some nature would have been a nice gesture but we did not see one. Our table service was excellent and the wine was equally as good. The bartender lost a little sight of us and our drinks had an over abundance of ice in our glasses. The evening was great being with good people and Chelsea was very nice to us.
