It was getting late when we ventured out of our hotel for dinner. The first restaurant recommended by our hotel was not inviting as it appeared empty, the second restaurant we were unable to find and we later discovered that we’d been given incorrect directions. We ended up in Grand Central Station at Cipriani Dolce – a restaurant with a lovely view of the main concourse of the station. We had to wait a while to be noticed and shown to a table. All three of us chose pasta dishes which were enjoyable despite the pasta being slightly beyond al dente. However we were unhappy with the charge for the wine. A 250 ml glass was $18 yet a 750ml bottle of exactly the same wine was $65. The manager explained that the extra cost was for opening the bottle but when we expressed incredulity he backtracked somewhat and the bill was re-presented with only $1 being charged for opening the bottle. We left feeling the whole experience had been very expensive for what it was and a little less than enjoyable.

Family went there on labor day weekend. Hadn't booked and the manager was very accomodating. Unfortunately the waiter forgot my 11 year old grandaughters main meal and she had to sit there waiting for it. They tried to clear our plates but we wouldn't let them otherwise she would have had to eat with an empty table. No real apology. I expected them not to charge but on the bill there was a credit for $5 which apparently wasd anadjustment for the meal forgotten. I said if they were that badly off they should charge it, which they then did, but then when I refused to pay the service charge they became quite excited - the manager said it was "mandatory" Anyway I didn't pay it but wrote to their Head Office with my views - they haven't bothered to reply. The meal was OK but the evening was ruined

Found myself screaming my conversation. Way to loud to be eating here. A good bar scene but not good for dining. Food was average

The place for a good coffee in NYC with remarkable butter cookies is here. If you want to eat something salty on the fly, Pierino cannot be missed. Here in NYC it is three times what they serve in Venice, super good and with a very normal price by their standards. Try it!

This place is always busy, but service is always quick and polite. You can have a drink and overlook all of grand central. It is a great way to enjoy the sights. And they have a big drink menu.

We went there for champagne cocktails which were wonderful and just watched the World go by in a beautiful location.

Okay, here we are sitting on the west balcony in Grand Central station. We got a table on the railing and look onto the main concourse of the station. It is just across from from Michael Jordan's. This is a little Italian restaurant and big bar with the best people watching anywhere. It primarily serves commuters who are waiting for trains. It is very hectic at the end of a day but it is mostly "out of the way." We ordered cocktails and appetizers and stayed for over 2 hours just watching the thousands of people go by. Food is good and wine comes in carafes.

As has been said by others it is the location and experience that proved to be one of our best the last time we were in NYC when we ate here for dinner. Both the food and service were excellent. Is it expensive? Somewhat yes but for NYC with the location, quality and experience it was far better than any of the other restaurants we tried during our last visit. Cipriani Dolci exceeded all the others that were more highly overrated on many travel sites. We were there in December and I am writing this review in July because I just found the receipt I saved to ensure I shared this for others going to NYC. If you are going to NYC I would definitely make Grand Central Station one of you stops and while you are there take the opportunity to relax on the West Balcony of the terminal have a drink and dinner/lunch here and you will be glad you did. I have been to Grand Central many times in the past this was our first time eating there, other than cocktails at the Campbell Apartment.

I would say the best of this restaurant is it's view. It's right above the main hall of the Grand Central station. Very cool to eat seeing all this people walking their way around the station.

Dined here before so had to return. We booked a table overlooking the Grand Concourse to be sure of a good view and was not disappointed. The service was first class and the meal too. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff including a birthday cake along with a chorus of 'Happy Birthday'. The dessert menu is a tray containing the actual offers so that you can clearly see what you might desire. Nice touch.

As others have said it’s just a great spot if you want to soak up the atmosphere of Grand Central Station - we had great cocktails and great service!

This is a place to soak in the atmosphere of Grand Central Station. The prices are eye watering ($50 for a round of five drinks) but that's not the point. Avoid peak periods at lunch and dinner, and grab a coffee or something stronger and sit back and enjoy the view. Cipriani Dolci and Grand Central stations are a place of anticipation and promise, and a reminder of the elegance of travel from times past.

Each time we are in the Big Apple, we try Mohave dinner at this place. Food is top and sitting on top of the buzz of travellors without it being too noisy. Also ideal place to have lunch

I booked without realising just how expensive this place is. There were no prices on the website and whilst I expected it to be above average in price, it was ludicrous. It is in a great position and the food was good but $388 for two adults and two children is completely over the top. For $388 you get tap water, 3 cocktails, two juices, 4 starters and 4 mains in total. The calamari as a starter was good and the ravioli as a main but it will be one-off visit.

I've been to this place few days ago , the quality of the food was good and its nice to stop by there at lunchtime, busy place , gives you the feeling of being in NYC ,i think i will go there again , the staff were friendly and nice

If you love great food from a world class restaurant then this is a great choice. The restaurant sits high above the Terminal at Grand Central.

This is a great spot to have a drink and people watch in the iconic Grand Central station. It’s a beautiful building and this is a great place from which to admire it and the passing world. The prices aren’t cheap ($100 for 4 excellent cocktails, a juice and delicious chocolate cake) but typical of many places in NYC.

This restraunt is in Grand Central Terminal. The food was great and the atmosphere was amazing. I ate here last summer with my daughter. We had a great meal and soaked in the surrending beauty of Grand Central. The prices were reasonable.

A restaurant that preserves the quality and class of the other Cipriani. A nice terrace overlooking the Central Station hall. We loved the atmosphere and the movement. We opted for the curry chicken (the best in the world), a very fresh tuna tartar and a gratin pasta. Finally, a glorious vanilla ice cream. I have been to the Cipriani in Venice, Miami, and NYC's 5th Avenue. All excellent.

This New York City institution - which has a full restaurant across the street and a few other locations around the city - is a great place to get familiar with Grand Central Terminal (GCT). The balcony is above the main concourse and is a fairly small area - but open to the space (no walls/ceiling), so you really have a feeling of being in the GCT. Cipriani's is a white linen place and pricey, but a really, really great way to savor the grandeur of GCT. If you're an architecture buff and visiting GCT to see the building, this is the place for you.

We went with a large group of people here for lunch and it was very good, although we didn't get time to have coffee and eclairs as we had to go and get our flight home! The food was good and the chocolate fudge cake delicious. I loved the view sitting on the balcony overlooking Grand Central Terminal. Quite a walk up two flights of stairs to the restroom and I've never seen such a small ladies cubicle, you couldn't even turn round in it to flush, you had to open the door go out and come back in to flush!

This is my 4th visit to New York and it’s always been my goal to dine in the surroundings of this great railway station. So it’s a real disappointment for me write this view. The waiters where not attentive, we had to ask for water and we had to remind them that a glass of wine was missing, yet 20% tip was added to the bill. The potions were small and under seasoned. I would NOT recommend Cipriani Dolci, Grand Central Station to anyone.

I go to this restaurant every time I go to New York, there’s no place like it in the world. It’s one of those places that just makes you feel special when you go. Great food, great atmosphere with an incredible view topped off by a 100’ ceiling. If this doesn’t impress you nothing will.

Decent food but for a high price. You're really paying for the setting rather than the food; watching the constant movement of the terminal is beautiful and entertaining. Worth a visit if you're visiting just the once, however I found the food was slightly overrated.

We had a little difficulty finding the restaurant. We didn't see any signs on the main floor. It is upstairs on the side of the terminal away from the passage to most of the tracks. We all enjoyed our meals. Two had pasta which was fresh and delicious. One had eggplant which did not have pasta in it, but was a little casserole and very tasty. One had the club sandwich which was a little like a chicken pot pie. And one had a fruit plate with a nice assortment of fruits. All of the meals were a nice size - not too big or two small. Also, the bread and sweat butter was delicious!!!!! We had a made a reservation but arrived early and were seated quickly. It was very convenient to finish dinner and linger just a little to time the next train!

I had a very good chocolate cake, an espresso and a dessert tequila while enjoying the great Grand Central Station building

As a frequent diner for lunch, the food is always on point. The chicken curry is outstanding and brings back fond memories of Harry’s Bar in Venice. The food and setting are second to none.

We only had drinks but it was worth the wait for the view we had to see the Holiday lights show. I've always wanted to try to grab drinks at GCS, glad it was here & not the "other" place. Hostess was attentive, nice & got a us a great seat even with the holiday slam @ 5pm on a Saturday. LOVED it. Service was great. Will come back again...

Overpriced and poor service. Too tired so decided to sit in station people watching...hubby ordered crepe ice cream and got huge pile of ice cream we sent back.....eventually got crepe which was so small for 16 bucks!!

We wanted to eat in grand central station just to say we did, and it cost us dearly. We would have better off eating anywhere else. Very expensive for tiny portions, and the sides are plain. Small wine selection, poor sorbet, just a generic place that would never survive anywhere else. Avoid it.

We booked this restaurant for Mother's Day and my daughter's 25th Birthday thinking it would be a lovely spot to celebrate. No one greeted us when we arrived. We were taken to a table where only 2 of the 4 of us had a view of Grand Central as my husband and I had our backs to the balcony. The service was OK at best but what truly insane beyond the prices (even by New York standards) were the portions. After having a very overpriced $20 cucumber salad (which literally consisted of cucumbers, cherry tomatoes with some corn and I'm not sure if there was any dressing involved but it didn't taste like it) I opted for the eggplant parmigiana. I've ordered this dish all over the world and generally it is always way too much food to ever finish as well as comes with a side of pasta. I received a dish that was literally the size of a small pancake. One thin slice of eggplant with nothing on the side. Granted it was a very tasty piece of eggplant but was not even adequate as an appetizer portion. It was truly comical and I so wish I had taken a photo but we were laughing too hard. They were out of the burrata, the minestrone was strange at best however the proscuitto and melon was a nice portion. My husband had a nice size pasta dish but the ravioli the other 2 ordered was pretty small as well. The restaurant never acknowledged Mother's Day however as we ordered dessert for my daughter's birthday they did bring the cake with a candle and birthday greeting which was probably the highlight of a very weak dining experience. With so many choices in the city we will definitely choose better next time.

Great location overlooking the main concourse at grand central station. But like so many well located eateries, the food and service are a bit average. The brunch omelette was great, but the pasta not so good.

.....to eat dinner inside one of the most beautiful buildings in the city! Great food, great service. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend and can't wait to go back!

For $40.00 you can get a prix fixe menu for lunch, including a Bellini, that is truly memorable. The location sounds odd, you are in a railway station after all, but boy will you be pleasantly surprised. Something from a different aera, in a very very good way. ENJOY!

It would be a nice place but it gets crowded and loud... Drinks are overpriced which is expected for this kind of venue

We stopped by because we saw authentic Italian ingredients on the menu… As we walked in we spotted the Trip Advisor endorsement and knew we were in for a treat. We were totally floored by how amazing the service was. Mary Durrant-McNeil was one of the most generous and kind hostess/managers we’ve meet. This restaurant and experience totally made our very first day New York with my daughters a great memory. Not to mention the food was spot on. Loved it! Impressed. Will be back!

Dined here on a Friday night and was sorely disappointed. Had a reservation, arrived early, seated right away by an extremely grouchy hostess. Sat on the rail overlooking the Main Hall of Grand Central Station - the view and the ambiance were the only positives of the evening. After the miserable hostess, the bad service theme continued, we had to wait about 15 minutes before anyone came to our table - were not even served water ! Our waiter was very distracted and not around hardly at all.The menu was good, choices but not too many. The Tuna Tartare appetizer was excellent. We ordered a salad but were told the only dressing was gorgonzola cheese (?) - the salad arrived with huge fist-sized chunks of the cheese but no dressing in sight. I ordered the Tortellini - 15 minutes after ordering then I was told they were OUT. OUT of a pasta at an Italian restaurant ? Wow. My wife's Veal Piccata she said wasn't even close. My pasta I finally got was way too heavy on pancetta and was not very good. The price was in line with other Manhattan Italian restaurants, but the quality of the food and the dreadful service made for an unpleasant dinner.

The other bar directly. Across the way was closed at weekends apparently , so we called in , somewhat reluctantly to cipriani...and you know what we sat at the bar and drank ice cold beers and watched the world go by...no problem. Nice young woman serving, all good . I’ll be back thank you...

$14 per glass of wine, and receipt has suggested tips.nice people watching, restrooms are in a quasi empty adjacent building.kind of spooky

Great barman who happily took our photograph when we asked. As the train terminal is such an amazing place you can be forgiven for wanting to splash out and have a glass of bubbles, as we did to celebrate!!,.....It will cost you £40 for 2 glasses of champers but lets face it, you're not here every day!

First, if your first thought is to wonder if you're under-dressed, you probably are. While the entire staff was friendly and accommodating, the other patrons were not so much. This is an expensive restaurant, and those who frequent it are probably used to it. There are multiple utensils, a different server for every job, and fancy terms everywhere. The food was okay; we enjoyed looking out over Grand Central more than eating. My gnocchi was basically pasta in tomato sauce, as was my son's "kid's spaghetti" (they don't have any accommodations for children). My wife had lemon chicken that she said was ho-hum, and my steak tartare was a spicy hamburger. Good drinks, though. Expect to spend $$$.

We arrived at Cipriani Dolci fairly late, yet there were still people there, both dining and at the bar. We were seated immediately, our orders were taken and some delicious bread was given to us. I have to say, the food available on the menu was of an extremely strange combination... Chicken curry doesn't pair too well next to tagliatelle...But my tagliatelle was delicious nevertheless! I just wish there would've been a bit more of it :( The portion would have been extremely small for $15, never mind $25! I think I paid more than it was worth, to be honest. But the service was very good though, and the staff were very friendly.

The food was wonderful and the ice cream (they make it) was incredible. Service was lovely and the view and atmosphere just amazing. A wonderful NY experience. I brought a tourist friend. However, the prices are off the wall! We had a bottle of sparkling water - $10.50. A small meal, two pasta dishes and ice cream, plus the water came to $95.00. Plus the tip was $17. But for an occasional special meal, this is really nice. Or to meet a friend if you split the bill, it's also really nice. They don't rush you out, so you can linger over your dessert and keep your conversation going. I saw a lot of millennials were there just for drinks, so if that's what you are looking for, it's perfect. Don't not go because of the price, as everything else is wonderful, just be prepared to pay twice as much as you had expected.

You can't lose here. Sit at the bar, be served by the friendliest bar staff, sip a drink and take in the scene: people bustling everywhere, the hubbub of travellers about to catch trains or running for the subway, announcements being made and Grand Central Terminal laid out before you. It doesn't get better than this. If it doesn't bring out the best in you and make you happy, I don't know what will. Simply marvellous.

We had dinner at Agern and were early so we had a drink at the Cipriani balcony in Grand Central. It’s a good spot for people watching in the station and good views of the main hall. Drinks and food are a bit pricey.

Food on the restaurant week menu was ok. Atmosphere in the middle of Grand Central was nil. Service was good. Very big pour for the glass of wine.

A great place to watch the hustle and bustle of grand central station above the crowd! My husband and I enjoyed their butternut squash ravioli with a side of broccoli rabe which was delicious. Don't hesitate to try their profiteroles for dessert which were delicious! A bit pricey but memorable!

My friend and I met to celebrate his birthday during restaurant week. In the midst of a frigid winter, it was appealing to be able to stay right in the train station. But the experience wasn't that appealing. We were seated overlooking the terminal concourse, and it was fun to people-watch. It was also quite chilly, though that may not be anything the restaurant can control. Once we ordered, our appetizers came not more than 2 minutes later. My green salad was adequate but not inspired; the same seemed to be true for my friend's green bean salad. Within what seemed like 5 minutes - when we were less than half done with our salads - the main course arrived and was placed on the table! We had both ordered a chicken dish with tomato sauce which was tasty; it came with rice on a separate plate. Since the table was small and we still had our salad dishes, it was cramped. The service slowed down after that, and we did enjoy our desserts - chocolate cake and lemon meringue tart - and were able to sit and chat. But the poor service at the beginning really spoiled the meal for us, and I don't think I'd return.

Cipriani Dolci have at least two other restaurants in NYC, this review is for the one in Grand Central Terminal. We went for lunch during the two week NYC food promotion in June. During this period many fine restaurants offer a fixed price menu, $24/head in this case. We booked on line, no hassles and got a confirmation email and a reminder the day before. The table we has overlooked the main concourse which, of course, is quite noisy but not so much that you couldn't have a normal conversation. The background buzz added to the ambience. Service was good and the food better. The main course of chicken spezzatino was particularly good. The price was for three courses and we felt very full at the end! The house white was a very passable Pinot Grigio. All in all a very good restaurant in an amazing location.

Great place to enjoy a glass of decent wine and watch the world go by. Whenever I can, I stop here for either a glass of freshly squeezed juice or a glass of wine when going on to meet a friend or rushing back to catch a train. It's a great place to sometimes just stop and watch the world rush around you. You have the perfect view looking into the central area to keep an eye on your train schedule, watch the world go by or simply enjoy the organised manicness of NY's main station. A definite a visit whether as a tourist or coming into NY.

I always wanted to eat at Cipriani Dolci and was very disappointed. This restaurant is located on the second floor of Grand Central Station and knowing where to enter was a bit confusing. They appeared to be confused on how to check me in with my Opentable reservation. I decided to go for something simple and ordered a cheese burger and have to say that it was the worst I've ever had. The french fries were nothing special. All I can say is at least I can scratch this one off my bucket list. I certainly won't return to eat mediocre food at excessive prices.

Had drinks with business colleagues after a conference at the Grand Hyatt (next door). Small/tight table configuration, which is classic NYC, so they can fit as many tables and paying customers in as they can. We sat/stood at the bar, as we were tired of sitting all day in meetings. Complimentary crackers are provided. The wine list was shorter than I would have expected, although not entirely surprised, considering their location and allotted space. No California reds were on the list, mostly, if not all were Italian reds. I didn't look at the white's, so unsure about those. Glass cost $16 for cheapest and went up to $34 per glass. Beer selection was limited. The location is the draw here, as you're set on the balcony overlooking the Grand Central Terminal. Lots of hustle and bustle. Fun touristy experience.

We went to experience grand central station, which is the only plus. It's extremely expensive for what it is. All three of the food items we ordered were bad: tuna tartare too dry; artichoke avocado salad had weird tangy taste; and the fried calami was over fried and cold. and the cosmo was not tasty. it's like the food was pre-made and not fresh. the service is so so.

Good Italian food, fresh and delicious, but the table I was promised wasn't provided and we got a no-view table beyond the balcony, which seats very few people. Waiters not that attentive, but busboys were accommodating. Was it because we were women not wearing suits?

This is a very good restauran with very good food and friendly service. Good for lunch or dinner. Nice view of the Terminal for people watching.

What a great dinner. Met one of my friends here for a dinner as I was traveling through Grand Central while doing some work with McLaren Automotive. The special for the night was a rabbit and potatoes special. Wow it was amazing. One of the best meals I have had in the city. Price was a little high for the drinks on the menu but the food was on par with other restaurants in the area. Highly recommend if you want to people watch over dinner in Grand Central.

I met a friend here on a late afternoon, for a drink. It's such a beautiful setting, VERY New York. I'll do thus again!

Grand Central was one of the places we just had to visit. It's amazing! However, go up onto the balcony and have a cocktail (or two) and sit and watch the New York commuters heading for their trains home.

We searched high and low and finally found what we'd been looking for - the famous New York waiter who treats customers rudely and brusquely and expects them to be grovelingly grateful in his presence. We were beginning to think this species was extinct! So, having found him, ordered two glasses of white wine ($40 including tip, ouch!) and then kicked back to take in surely the most beautiful rail terminal in the world. I have to accept that the wait staff, though arrogant and aloof, seemed to be doing their job extremely well. Lovely air conditioned atmosphere, too.

We chose this restaurant because it had great reviews and was in an iconic location. I am afraid to say we were extremely disappointed. Having looked at the menu prior to our visit we were well aware of the prices which were no issue. However, we were a little surprised to be told they did not serve beer, the wine one of our party chose was not available, the tap water we requested came as bottled and the cost of drinks was high. On the whole, we found the food pretty average and my calves liver was very tough. When we paid our bill of just short of $400 for the four of us we were kept waiting a very long time while they sorted out a problem which was a concern because we had given the waiter our credit cards. We didn't find the staff very helpful or friendly and our overall impression was one of extreme disappointment. Given the wonderful setting the meal did not live up to expectations. We will certainly not return.

We were very excited to visit this restaurant during the holiday season, except that it was a crushing disappointment. The food was less than an average Manhattan restaurant would serve. The location however, is spectacular.

Good service - great view over GCT - nice snack menu. Dinner menu looked good but we had other plans.

Myself and 5 friends called in for a cocktail at 5pm after a long day of site seeing in NYC. The servers were , without exception, arrogant and not obliging at all.... one actually pointed at my friend’s empty glass and , without a word, gestured for her to hand it to him! We had planned on staying for 2 cocktails and dinner however after the frosty service we unanimously agreed to go elsewhere

Great restaurant. Most of the food is imported from Italy. I can assure you since I am Italian. For example, prosciutto and parmigiano have the same taste of that you can eat in Italy.

From the moment we were seated, Luciano looked after us beautifully. What a setting for a superb meal, in the middle of Grand Central Station! We shared a burrata to start and it was incredible, followed by the pasta with seabass and the duck with mashed potato, both of which were out of this world. The place was full of very happy diners, would highly recommend this little spot for a special night out. Thanks Luciano, see you next time!

As I'm happy to nail my colours firmly to the mast of Grand Central Station being one of the iconic locations of NYC, then the pricey menu is more than justified as one takes in and admires the breathtaking architecture of a building which, if it was not for the intervention of Jackie Kennedy, would have been destroyed and now be just another nondescript apartment or office tower. If you wish to enjoy its Greko-Roman temple-like columns, polished marble (?) walls, etched ceiling, stained glass windows and oh-so-typical early 20th Century East Coast USA decor in a reasonably formal, classy, spacious eatery, consuming good quality food and drink served by polite, capable but unobtrusive staff, then pull up a chair, relax and watch the world go by (assuming you're not trying to close a business deal over lunch, that is, as many of the patrons seemed to be doing!). Otherwise, join the seemingly endless queue for the adjacent burger joint and - eventually - sit cheek by jowl with the melee of screaming kids and their stressed, rucksack, pushchair and tourist paraphernalia-laden parents, and wish you'd actually caught one of the invisible trains to, well, pretty much anywhere else, instead!

no food ...just cocktails ...very nice ...great views of grand central station. Great service. very romantic

I used to go here quite often for breakfast and lunch but I have stopped. The wait for food is quite long and I found their prices higher than comparable places with in one block their desserts however are top notch but still the issue of price is there. Good on occasion but they really need to fix their serving as it is too much to wait for quite a while for service. I do not love their coffee either

The setting in the beautifully renovated Grand Central Station is superlative, where you can watch New York life from the balcony as well as admire the exquisite ceiling. My friend and I had pasta - portions were decent but my pappardelle duck ragu was somewhat average. Still worth a visit though, albeit just the one.

Great food and fun to sit and watch the masses in the terminal. There is also a semi-secret stairway to the rest rooms and a bar that is open some afternoons.

Made a reservation for 1730 for one, planning to check it out for a larger group. Restaurant was full, but got a great table right on the balcony overlooking main station floor. Waiter came and left several times attending to large group next to me, but never talked to me, not even to offer a drink. After 20 min. I left. and told manager the issue. To give him credit, he offered dinner or lunch next day on the house, but the damage was done. Conclusion: you'll only be waited on if you're in a group large enough to give a big tip. If you're alone or in a small group, it's not worth waiter's time to serve you. I'll take my office group and business elsewhere.

..... there are very few seats despite it being a major tourist location. Additionally if you have people who demand to investigate shops in minute and lengthy detail then this is the place for you. A great Bar - moderately priced drinks by New York Standards - and a grandstand view of the main Hall if you want food. Good place to sit relax and watch / gawp at passers-by whilst deciding how to afford the shopping bill being added to in the shops in the basement level. Did not try the food myself but the other punters seemed to very much enjoy what was provided. Recommended.

Definitely go to this beautiful restaurant. We are Italian folks and it we had a blast! We had tagliatelle and pappardelle alla bolognese. Awsome! Also the service was marvelous. Very recommended.

We stopped for lunch as I really wanted to just sit and people watch from the mezzanine while in Grand Central Station. This restaurant does have a wonderful view and we were lucky enough to get a table right on the edge overlooking the floor below. Everything else is pretty average, the servers while prompt are not friendly and the food - I had the eggplant - was still cold in the middle, obviously frozen meals that are reheated on site. For $25.00 I expected more, my husband had the chicken salad which was ok. They did make a nice coffee - again over priced. It ticked off a thing to do on my New York list, just would have liked a better food experience.

Great location and good food but pretty steep price. And it backs up here and I do not like waiting. You might like it more but Han me but the s is what she think.

service was good, food was good, obviously expensive but worth the experience. We always visit once per NY trip.

This restaurant overlooks Grand Central. What a perfect place to sit and sip on a Bellini while you take in the beauty of this magnificent building. We had a lite bite of tea sandwiches (ham, egg salad and chicken salad) served on a tiered silver tray while we enjoyed the view. The menu said for 2 but we were 3 and we had more than enough. The sandwiches are served with cheese and apple slices. This view also comes with a pricey bill so be prepared.

Food was good, service was good but the best part was sitting relaxing and watching the world go by in grand central station, great place to eat, drink and just be

We had a round of cocktails and the Prosciutto Tower at Cipriani Dolci while at Grand Central station. Drinks and food were excellent. The service wasn't great but it was busy. The view over the station was excellent for people watching and admiring the great hall.

We arrived late in NYC and living on Park Avenue we found that Grand Central station was the go to for some dinner. We headed up to the West Balcony to Cipriani Dolci. My teenager loves Italian food so this was a great find. The staff are welcoming and we had a table overlooking the terminal so we could do a fair bit of decent people watching. The wine list is very good so the adults were happy!. We all enjoyed our meal it was very good quality.

Great food but service is not so good. They keep forcing you to order, speaking in an italian accent that is bas to understand and at the end, at the check, they have the nerve to add 20% gratuity to it. Won't be coming back.

When Cipriani downtown was the place to go and you would get good food you could tolerate the bad attitude of the maître di and the hostess... but the food today is terrible and the clientele a little sketchy mixed with a crowd of people who are nostalgic about old times

Highly recommended while waiting for a train or for friends in noisy, crowded Grand Central. This time we had drinks with a friend who was on the way to JFK. Good seating, good view, and good drinks in the $15-20 range. Excellent service and surprisingly calm and quiet.

It has become something of a family tradition to meet at Cipriani Dolci at least once during a trip to NYC. The first time I went I was too busy looking around at the incredible architecture of Grand Central Station to pay much attention to the food - which was superb! With the snow white table cloths, the bus boys and a quiveringly attentive maître'd it is easy to be a little intimidated, especially when you are surrounded by some of NYCs finest power launchers. However, once you check the menu and speak to the friendly waiting staff you realize that this is also a good place to relax while waiting for a train and have a reasonably priced meal with, or without wine. I saw some of the reviews posted earlier and was a little surprised - I have never booked a table but I have always been accommodated and I have never been disappointed with the view but maybe I am easy to please. I also think the food is superb, I had what I consider to be the best Caesar Salad I have ever had there and the desserts are amazing. Top it off with coffee or one of their great selection of teas and it is the perfect lunch location. There is never any pressure to hurry and I have often enjoyed a lingering lunch while indulging in my favorite pastime of people watching - easy to do at Grand Central. Next time you are in town make you give it a try.

if you like to observe zillions of people pass by and find such an environment stimulating your appetite - then this is the right place for you. The food is consistently very good with real italian dishes that you can find in a refine setting in Italy. I loved their buratta and their fish and salads were great. the coffee, as expected, is very good.

We visited Cipriani at Grand Central New York for our last night ' s holiday in NYC. We sat for a while, no drinks were offered for at least 10 mins although the place was not busy. So I called waiter and asked if we could order some drinks. " What do you want". He asked rudely. The meal itself was poor. All dishes were super greasy swimming in oil. We complained and in fairness once we finally located the manager he was very good and deducted the cost of two mains. The waiters were awful , they just stood around chatting never once asking after our meal etc. The GM was not on top of the staff checking they were doing their job. Overall a sad disappointment and a slur on the name Cipriani.

Great view sat on the balcony overlooking the commuters and taking in the grand central building. But the food we had was very poor (club sandwich) was just tiny bits of chicken mushed up with mayonnaise and the staff seemed like they were elsewhere and didn't seem interested in being there.

Finally after my long trip out of town I am back in my favorite restaurant, aka my cafeteria. You have the best Cipriani food with the most amazing quick and friendly service with the beauty of Grand Central room and ceiling for free....

Sitting in this balcony restaurant in Grand Central Terminal is great way to enjoy a meal and watch commuters head home from the City. We enjoyed a glass of Merlot, fried calamari and gnocchi on a Friday in Lent. The food was excellent and the after dinner cappuccino was hot and tasty. This white linen place serves good food and has excellent service, but it is a little pricy. I guess that can be expected because of the location.

The food was excellent, as was the service. (One server could have used a little more recent a shower, but he was trying hard to please.) But the view overlooking the Grand Concourse is worth it all by itself. See pix. I don't know of a more spectacular, world-class location in which to dine. Lots of beautiful people, including a whole table of lovely girls on a meal out, having a great time, one of which attracted quite a bit of attention from the maître d!

The restaurant has a front seat view of Grand Central Terminal. Food was excellent and service impeccable. It was worth going back to Grand Central for a second time just to eat here

Had dinner here, including being rushed out so that they could close up. We split crostini appetizer that was good. Risotto was competent but gray and unappealing to look at. Wine by the glass prices are high, but you get a little carafe that is more like two glasses. Having eaten at Harrys Bar in Venice multiple times, it was nice to see the dishes and glassware but the food quality did not translate over.

Maybe the bartender have "a bad day", but after this visit we did have not so good mood. I think it is not a reason for bad service, if one want only have a beer. There were not any rush?!

Wow absolutely fantastic restaurant from the staff to the food. Had the pea risotto it was the best ever . The staff were amazing and so attentive first class service. 150% recommend here .

If you can get a seat at the bar, take it. Order a drink and just take in the atmosphere of the station. It's really a marvelous space and unique. But it's expensive and the feeling wears off fairly quickly.

After 5 days being in NY and having had very good food we decided on the last day to go to Cipriani. The first and the last time!! My son ordered Rigatoni; just disgusting; the bolognese was smelling and tasting like catfood . i ordered calf leaver with fried polenta; the cook has to be dismissed with immediate effect; the polenta was just greasy and disgusting; . My daughter ordered a chicken salad; no taste no nothing; ; The so called Italian red wine for 16.- USD a glass; all the waiters should go one week to Piemont; afterwards they would never sell again such stuff; . Conclusion: close this shop with immediate effect and learn to cook Italian food

Such cool people watching and a consistently great meal. The calf's liver with polenta is out of this world. Generous cocktails and lovely small plates. Speed of service varies with level of business. I have felt a little rushed when it's busy and a little ignored when they are slow.

Treat yourself to a wonderful meal in a beautiful room. High above the floor of the main hall of the Grand Central Terminal we enjoyed great Italian food, friendly service the a view of one of the wonders of American architecture. The vast space features a board blue ceiling with a portion of the zodiac illustrated in it. Period lighting and monumental stonework evoke the bygone era when the train was the favored form of transport. The food was finest quality and our waiter charming

The food is outstanding, service top notch Devore is beautiful. It’s a shame that Cipriani no longer has the Rainbow Room which was excellence at its best

My wife and I got to Grand Central on a Sunday evening about an hour before our train departed and we were hungry. We were fortunate enough to enter via the west side of the terminal and bumped into Cipriani. We sat at the bar so we could be served quickly and be on our way. We were greeted promptly and courteously by Charles, one of the bartenders. He took good care of us as we enjoyed our cocktails and dinner salads (chicken salad for her and Chef's Salad for me, both good). We established a good rapport with Charles and he rewarded us with a complimentary slice of their signature dessert cake (and still got us to our train in plenty of time). Throughout our meal we enjoyed a great view of the Terminal, it's zodiac ceiling, and all the people going by. My only complaint was the high price (perhaps standard in Manhattan): $92 for two dinner salads and two cocktails. But we will be back next time we need a meal at this train station!

a couple of martinis, a main course and some mineral water saw us spend our usual budget:-( Wines prohibitively expensive and not even really a special range. The service was stuffy and uncommunicative but efficient. But the position!! How amazing to eat fine food overlooking the huge Grand Central arrival hall, a lifetime experience

As a group of sweaty tourists, obviously not Manhattan patrons, I had a feeling we wouldn't get a very good table. Sure enough, we were quickly shuttled to the back. I was too tired to request an alternative. Our waiter was pleasant and we were promptly served. I would not reorder the chicken croquettes should I ever return; they tasted strongly of liver. Perhaps that is just their recipe for that dish. Above all, the magnificence of Grand Central Terminal is accessible to all who appreciate it. Sometimes I envy New Yorkers for their city's cultural treasures, surrounding them everyday!

My mother and I were celebrating her significant birthday. We decided to have a nice dessert in grand central and approached the cipriani dolci... it was Thursday at circa 11.15am. The waiter / guest welcome was shocking. He was rude, aggressive, superior and dismissive. I simply asked for a table on the balcony - given that they were all / substantially all vacant at the time of my visit. I wasn’t allowed to sit at any of these tables because I wasn’t booking full lunch! I was grudgingly offered a table at the bar. I had profiteroles, which were really nice. However the behavior and the way we were treated left a really sour taste. My advice is only go to this restaurant if you are happy to be treated in a very poor manner and then be satisfied that you will also pay through the nose for the displeasure of the treatment. My advice to the operators of the cipriani dolci is that you should send your wait staff back to school to learn some manners and to learn something about customer service with a smile. The appalling behavior will do you out of business.

We had an early light lunch at this New York landmark - a branch of the Cipriani/Harry's family at the West Balcony overlooking the busy Grand Concourse of Grand Central Terminal. Starting with the signature Bellini (created at Harry's Bar in Venice), we ordered a trio of salads to share between the two of us - artichoke & avocado, heirloom tomato with red onion and lentil with julienned vegetables. The artichoke & avocado was a bit rough-hewn and could've been a little more flavorful (the overlay of fresh Parmesan helped), but the other two were delicious and healthy! We skipped dessert but the bill came with a tiny plate of bite-sized cookies that were the perfect ending. A fun, nice and unique dining experience under the gorgeous constellation canopy of Grand Central!

We enjoyed our meal here and especially the ambience! Such fun to watch the hustle and bustle and be far above it! The meal was very good and the wait staff excellent! A plate did not sit long after being finished and they were very attentive to all of our needs. We even got a little education on the place from the Maitre D! Would recommend the experience!

Last minute idea to visit Grand Central Station before flying out! My wife spotted Cipriani Dolci! Best idea of the year. The staff were excellent, attentive, friendly and professional. The menu is varied and wonderfully Italian. The food...was delicious with a capital ‘D’. Superb!! Prices are really competitive and the wine selection excellent. I would love to take this restaurant home! e were so indulged we took no photos! Outstanding.. Did I mention the view!

Both my father and I had stomach problems after we left Cipriani's restaurant on the balcony of the Grand Central main hall. He had a mozzarella and prosciutto sandwich, I had a club sandwich. Service was also slow and confused. I have to say I will never go back to Cipriani's, regardless the location. Their brand obviously does not mean much.

We stopped yesterday for a break after visiting Brooks Brothers nearby. The place was jampacked; the champagne and Sauvignon Blanc were delicious and the fried calamari was as good as I’ve ever had. The views from the balcony are fantastic – the fancy clock, the countless people, the constellation, the hole from the rocket, the patch of cigarette smoke debris, and many many more wonders. Service was superb.

I def will not be returning to this spot....the food was not that great especially for the price and the service was not great either. The pinot noir that I had was pretty gross. The only thing worth mentioning about this place is the location because of the ability to people watch....if that's your cup of tea.

With time to kill before catching a train we decided to grab a quick lunch. No reservation but despite being busy we were offered a table overlooking the concourse or seats at the bar and we chose the latter. Service was brisk and efficient. Food (club sandwich and carpaccio) was tasty and the house pino grigio was perfect (very pricey but a generous serving). Its a great spot for people watching and taking in the views of the hall. The one drawback - its chilly up there on the balcony. Given the recent freezing weather its not too surprising and a number of guests (including my wife) were wrapped up in their coats and jackets. Not cheap but a very good experience when you have the time.

Came with high expectations. Food was ok, we ate at the bar. Brilliant spot for people watching over looking GCS. Worth a stop in.

This iconic restaurant has some of the best pasta in NYC this particular restaurant is located inside of Grand Central so it comes with a great view so you can watch the world go by ! Service and wait staff are wonderful!

This is just one of the many top notch dining spots, not just in Grand Central, but NYC. While the mother restaurant is just across the street, this provides fine light dining and a great place to meet up with friends. Enjoy a glass of Prosecco and a light snack or dinner. Try for a table by the marble railing which overlooks the very center of the station. It's an exquisite view of the priceless opal faced clock and the best people watching ever!

A very well located retaurant which can offer food at the bar or white linen service. There is not a great choice but everythingb is weell cooked and presented.

Shared Carpaccio, Tuna Tatake, Veal Tagliardi & a salad on the balcony overlooking Grand Central. Great supper, just a little slow with the bill as we had to get off to Times Sq for a show.

Had a little break at Cipriani Dolci in Central Station NYC. Had just desserts, because desserts are what it's all about. I had the profiteroles first, which were good. My friend had the panna cotta, which was good. Then I had the vanilla merengue... and... wow. I could write poetry about this dessert. It is a thing of beauty. Try it if you have a chance!

This place is noisy but a ton of fun to watch people. The prices are no worse than most bars in Manhattan. The appetizers are very good and not the usual fare. If you are in Grand Central (and if you are on vacation, you must come see Grand Central) add a visit to this bar to your list. You will be glad you did. Ok, why see Grand Central? It is the largest train station in the world. Built in 1903 it covers 48 acres most of which is under ground.

The tables are arranged on the west terrace of Grand Central on the upper level providing for excellent people watching and ambiance. There is a full bar and menu. We chose an assortment of appetizers and then were too full for more, but will be back to have a go at the full menu. The service was not great, but they were extremely crowded and even navigating the packed tables to sit down was a challenge so I won't hold that against them. Sit by the balcony and watch the people go by!

Wow! Amazing position and such a treat! A real Bellini-just as delicious as Harry's Bar in Venice! If you don't want to make the journey to taste it in italy-this is the original flavour right here in New York. And the pasta was equally yummy. Definitely go here. But beware of the bill-still cheaper than a round trip to Venice!

Nice place, on the station´s mezzanine, overlooking the attractive main hall. Restrooms a bit too far, two stairs up

Very busy place due to location. The food and service was great. I had the octopus and mixed green salad and it was the best Octopus I’ve ever had. My wife had pasta. Both meals were great. Worth the stop if you’re at Grand central.

A friend and I with no advance planning were looking for a good restaurant and decided on Cipriani Dolci which is located in the West Balcony overlooking the main concourse at Grand Central Station. The service is consistently attentive and friendly. The menu does not have super enticing descriptions however one can't go wrong with anything here, I suspect, given our experience. I had the veal ragu pasta and my friend had the branzino. Both were excellent. I have not had a plate of pasta that satisfying in years, since I moved out of NYC, I believe. The dessert cart is enticing--we had the mocha cake and I took a slice of flourless chocolate cake to go which was delicious. The coffee is also rich and tasty and it was served with delectable cookies. The only slight hiccup was the ladies room--using it after dinner was interesting to say the least. One climbs up stairs of what appears to be one of the un-renovated areas of Grand Central into a bathroom with two stalls - one is oversized and the other is so small one cannot sit on the toilet and close the stall door. We had a good laugh because it was so incredibly incongruous. In spite of the weird bathroom, I have a feeling this will be my go-to restaurant when I come into Manhattan.

Usually I don’t bother writing negative reviews, but this time I feel the need to express my disappointment. For years our family dined at this establishment during the holidays and were treated well, the food was delicious and the service great. So, when we decided to stop in for lunch, I was excited. First, they stuck us right up against the server’s “station” so every time a waiter needed a glass or napkin or something, they were right in our face. The host never looked at us or spoke to us. He just dropped the menu on the table and went back to his friends at the bar. Normally, I would have asked for another table, but my gut told me things have changed here, so I decided to see what else was in store. When I ordered the chicken BLT with no mayo, the waiter came back and said the Chef could not do that because he said it wouldn’t taste good…HELLO? I think I was going to eat it, not the Chef. So, I settled for the $26 burger. First it was small for the price then it was under cooked. The bun was a grocery store hamburger bun as well. I wouldn’t have minded the cost, if it was good and bigger than a ¼ pounder at McDonalds, but it wasn’t. Disappointed was not the word. I love this place! I love the views of Grand Central Station, the vibe of the sitting above the bustling crowds and usually the food! But not this time. Will have to think twice before I would consider returning to this location. For the record, our server, Alex was so great! Thankful for that!

Plenty said on location, had the restaurant week special, very basic but nicely put together. Hemingway martini, perfect

I always take visitors for a drink at Cipriani, as the views of Grand Central are as spectacular as the people watching! It should definitely be on a NYC "top 10" destination list - it's NYC's equivalent to sitting in a Via Veneto cafe and watching the world go by - you expect the tariff to be a little pricey, but it's worth it! A glass of pinot grigio is about $15, and together with a cheese plate, you can have a very enjoyable experience. I also think the service deseves a shout-out, it's efficient, but not pushy.

A great place to enjoy a very tasty lunch.the service was excellent and the food instead hood, .well worth the visit.

Good food, slightly brusque service, super location, cool inside whilst baking hot outside........... fairly priced food, nice wine (pricey ...even before the expected 20% extra) Its a fun place to eat while watching people go about their travels within the Grand Central station. Doesnt sound so good (eating in a station) but its really very nice......

I dine here often as it's convenient and the best restaurant in Grand Central Station. Service is usually good from the host to the wait staff. Of course one of the main reasons for eating here is the incredible view - which elevates good food to a great dining experience. Reliable house made pastas never disappoint. Osso busco is always good as is the risotto. Are there better Italian restaurants in the city? Yes, but they don't have this view. Prices are fair considering the location.

Perfect Grand Central Station Location ! Starting Point of a Perfect Lunch in the company of perfect people with a perfect cocktail in hand among the truly professional staff ! Try cucumber salad in a perfect atmosphere. Get the perfect taste. Try fillet mignon or just stek or any pasta and f'll up your memories with their perfect taste and then try their perfect gelato, Then, you can tell your friends that you have had one of your best moments while you were in New York ! And before that please be prepared to pay a certain price for all those moments/ An expensive place ? Yes ! A fantastic place ? You bet ! And a New Yorker place ? You could not be saying enough of it !
Wonderful view, good wine, really friendly staff.
When we decided to eat here, overlooking the spectacular main concourse of Grand Cetnral, we at first thought it was a men-only dining club. Well, not really, but we were two women and a teenage girl, and we couldn't see a single woman eating - just a sea of sharp suits. We sat down anyway, and we were treated to fantastic service. The food was delicious, the wine came in little jugs and there was quite a lot of it. It wasn't cheap, but cheap is downstairs in the food hall, with no view and no friendly waiters. This, for a special treat at lunchtime, was amazing. A great memory.
