Locals who found a neighborhood spot

By Alisha D |

Spent the afternoon drinking with my friend and hanging out with Will and Carlos who made us the best drinks ALL FIVE hours we hung out at the bar. Definitely recommend this place for brunch, dinner, casual drinks, a date, or ANY social outing!!

Proceed with Caution

By Lindsay G |

DO NOT BOOK A SPECIAL EVENT HERE! Warning to all about the risk of counting on a reservation at this venue. We booked a party of 8 for my 40th birthday more than a month out. 36 hours before our reservation they canceled it to host a private party. Highest bidder apparently won out and we were left to scramble. It's not worth the risk if your evening is important.

Nice venue

By ERICA B |

Went to a comedy show It was amazing happy they don’t nickel and dime you to make you buy drinks and food after paying for a ticket and that right there makes you wanna buy more because you’re not forced to do so

Great views and great food

By Chelsea M |

Came here for a birthday celebration and had a great time with friends! We had food and drink on the patio with Flor as our server - tasty flatbread and fries and a refreshing rose. Would recommend!

Awesome!

Love city winery! Great views of the Hudson and even better wine! Lucas is an awesome server! Will totally be back

Great for an after work drink!

By Destination259072 |

It is a great spot to grab a drink after work and sit outside. I've never sat inside - its always pretty dark and they're usually setting up for an event/showcase.

My First Visit

By AJP57 |

I went there for something light to eat after leaving the Little Island Park (floating park). I had the margherita pizza and it was salty. I’ve never had a salty margherita pizza before. The venue is nice and the music is great.

Nice venue with good food

By Megan S |

The venue is pretty small and there are no bad seats. Staff is friendly and helpful. Limited menu but good food. I recommend the VIP seats because then you have a private table (very small for 4 people) instead of being crammed in like sardines.

Civilized music venue

By Kenny O |

With sit down music venues dropping like like flies in NYC, this is an oasis In a musical desert. All seats are reserved. It may be a bit cramped, but this is NYC (anyone remember the Bottom Line?)They offer a wide variety of shows which appeal to all tastes. And they have food service. There are a couple of bad site lines because of pillars but for the most part every seat is a good one. If you see someone you like on their calendar snap up your tickets. Most don't last. You'll have a great (civilized) night!

Nice Small Venue for an Intimate Concert Experience

By Lisa K |

City Winery has a very nice concert space and I enjoyed the two shows I saw there very much. Tables are close to the stage. I was somewhat reluctant to eat at the venue with so many restaurant choices nearby, but I did eat dinner before one of the shows and it was quite good. When I am in NYC I will definitely be checking the City Winery concert schedule to plan a return visit.

City winery a 10!

Eat Elsewhere Before the Show

By Travel Moniker |

The show was great and the music was perfect. However, the service and food were disappointing. It started with getting my drink order wrong. Always a bad sign. This was followed by an overcooked cheeseburger and the fries that were room temperature and soggy. The server was not attentive and I started eating my over cooked burger and it was nearly finished by the time she returned to me. She comped the meal, but I would have preferred to pay for a properly cooked burger and fries. It was disappointing and I expected better.

A Memorable 34th Anniversary Dinner!

By Love2travelandwrite |

Like the sayings goes, "Wine, it's what's for dinner. And not just as a beverage with dinner, also as a key ingredient in dinner.” - It was exactly that at City Winery at Pier 57! We ordered the City Winery Burger, made with brie / cabernet onion jam / garlic parmesan aioli / lemon-dressed arugula/ herb fries and complemented the whole meal with smooth white reisling wine. Every bite of the meal was a party in our mouths as we simply could not get enough! It was one of our best Wine & Dining experiences! 🍷 🍔 Thank you, City Winery! You made our visit last Sat, May 14th, the day of our 34th Wedding Anniversary an unforgettable one, despite the gloomy rainy weather! 🌧 ☔️🥂❤️🗽

Good Sound, Decent Food and Wine

By Islandbean |

One of our favorite bands was playing at the City Winery. We weren't planning on having dinner here, but circumstances caused us to have no choice. For of us at a "VIP" table on the second level...a little tight for dinner. I'd probably say it is better served as a bar top with maybe shared appetizers. Very nice server, and pleased with the wine. It was interesting to hear they make the wine there. Even more so when they allowed us to sample a wine made for the band we were there to see. I had the lobster spaghetti$24. It was OK, not memorable really...the arancini $12 were very good. My husband had a huge ribeye steak that he didn't complain about, and judging by the way I wasn't offered a taste, it had to be pretty good. The chairs are a little bit noisy... if you are near a fidgety person it could get annoying. Otherwise the sound quality was great and I can't imagine there is a bad seat in the house. Prices vary for the wine. Mine was $10 a glass. It can go way up. Cocktails $12. Tickets for the show were $25 each for VIP seating. I am sure that varies too depending on the artist.

The worst server ever

By Al R |

Great venue for concert. Good food and great host. Don't want to tarnish the good servers but ours was the worst I ever had. Non existent for most of the night , not only to us but everyone in our area. Thanks to the other young servers that had to cover for ours.

Good wine and entertainment

By MamaGal |

We didn't eat here, but we did try a number of the red wines. They make their own wines, mostly California and west coast grapes. All were good, but the Zinfandel was really good. They do have other brands available. The entertainment and service was very good. I would definitely go back.

The quality of the food was not worth it.

By Dreamer13858887456 |

The quality of the food was O.K. (although not a reason to come here). The service was extremely nice. BUT: the prices of the dishes considering the portion sizes are simply outrageous and can only be described as fraud. AVOID coming here. It is simply not worth it. Don't ruin your day visiting New York (locals obviously don't come here anyway). Stay in one of the other nice places next door, even if you can't sit outside. You deserve better.

Beautiful Place, Great Show but service was a let down

By CTpickytraveler |

We recently went to City Winery for a concert. The facility is lovely, décor is very nice and airy and open. I'd definitely go there again for the ambiance. We had a table for 4 just to the right of the stage. Really they were amazing seats. Only complaint about the tables & seating is that you are really packed in tightly. Make sure you shower and put on lots of deodorant as you are up-close & personal with the neighboring tables all around you! We did arrive a bit early so initially our drink orders were taken quickly. However, our DRINKS (glasses of wine) DID NOT ARRIVE UNTIL AFTER OUR MEAL and our APPETIZERS DID NOT ARRIVE UNTIL AFTER OUR MEAL... Yes, very confusing I can't say that I've every experienced a situation like that before. Food quality, 3 of our group had the burger and the other had the fried chicken over corn dish. Portion size of the chicken appeared smaller than the picture advertised online. The dish was nice but in my opinion it could of used another element to compliment the dish. The burgers were good but honestly the bun was a disappointment as it had grill marks on it but was not toasted at all. All in all I'd definitely come here again for a show but most likely I would not come for dinner. I had read some reviews of City Winery prior to my visit and there was a lot of negativity in regards to service. I truly feel that this is not an issue of poor servers who don't care as a whole I feel it's a system as a whole which is failing the servers. I'd love for management to remove some tables to make it a more enjoyable venue and easier for the great service they want to provide to their patrons. Impression of service issue. There are too many tables packed tightly which means there are too many people ordering at the same time and my impression is not enough wait staff, runners, bartenders and kitchen staff to keep up with the demand. B

Great little find

This is a great place to have glass of wine. It is centrally located. The staff is very friendly and attentive. Prices are very, very reasonable for New York. Just pop in!

Wedding

Was just at City Winery for my nephews wedding and it was amazing! The food, ambiance and service was impeccable. Would definitely recommend

Very good food for dinner nad some exquisite blended wines to go with it. Staff (first day on the job for our waiter!) was doing incredible well and the whole dinner was perfect. Situated perfect along the water next to Chelsea Piers

Yuck!

By dmarun |

Located in close proximity to our hotel and tired after a long day of playing tourists, we decided to give City Winery a try for dinner and drinks. Although the building itself is large, one walks into a small dark dining area with a bar and opening to a brewing area and with a large room in the rear used for music venues (this evening it was host to a private event). We had to wait to be greeted, let alone seated despite a plethora of empty tables. Service was excruciatingly slow (so much so that the table next to us came and left after about 45 minutes without any service). Our table was in front of the door to the brewing area which was empty but it seems to have been a tourist attraction as patrons entered and stood around looking at the vats for extended periods of time. The problem, again, is that everyone had to step down coming back into the dining room and brush our table...one poor girl missed the step and landed in my lap. One would think that would have alerted the staff to a potential issue but NOT one staffer even came over and made sure we were okay. We did manage to order an appetizer (yuck) and one glass of poor wine within the 1.5 hours we were there. Needless to say, we will never return and am at a loss as to what anyone sees in this establishment (unless there music venue is stellar but from the reviews, even this seems dubious).

Staff are so bad

By Emma O |

All we wanted was a glass of wine and some fries. Had to speak to 5 different people to get a table. Wine was amazing. Fries never appeared. Staff need to be more focused and customer serving.

Balcony seats the way to go!

By rlee2000 |

This is a follow up review to one I placed last Summer in which I gave The City Winery an excellent review. My wife and I went last night to see The Jerry Douglas Band and decided to try the balcony seats. I once again give them a five star review. The seats were padded, well spaced out, and very comfortable. There are only about 2 dozen seats up there, and aside from having a bathroom nearby that never gets crowded, there is a waiter and server that do not get in your way as may be the case downstairs and you do not have to listen to other tables conversations which may also be the case downstairs. We did not eat there last night but I highly recommend sitting in the balcony.

New location on the West Side still great sound

By Donna |

I went to see Aimee Mann at City Winery. It was my first time at the new location on the far West Side. The space is larger with multiple levels and an outdoor dining space. It was a rainy night and getting there is less convenient than the old space. That’s the only reason for the less than 5 stars. Sound is wonderful, food and drink are good and not exorbitantly priced. So many awesome performers, great service— great space. If only there was a closer train stop.

Cancelled my dinner reservation the night before

By SunNFunNJ |

We had tickets to the show on for Oct 13th, which by the way was excellent. However, I made a dinner reservation on 9/14, almost one month before the event date, which was accepted. Their mgt texted me (not emailed or called) THE NIGHT BEFORE the event date to say they had a private event and would be cancelling my dinner reservation. I tried calling the venue to get confirmation and no one answered the phone for the whole day. I eventually emailed them and someone replied - it was the basic "we apologize for the inconvenience" and nothing more. Will not attempt another dinner reservation at this place after what happened.

Great place but food is 2 of 10

By Yersultan Y |

Dont come to this place for food it’s not worth it Drinks are nice only with alcohol Zero proof cocktails tried each of them wasn’t worth it at all but nice place, great vibe service is alright Saffron Lobster not recommended very oily, pizza is overcooked, steak was good 5 pieces of lil meat

Great small concert venue with top acts

By Ron T |

Dinner, winery and concert venue all combined in one. We have seen about 6 shows here now and love it. Being from CT, we take the train in making it a late night. The food is slightly above average with a great selection of wine by the glass and bottle. They keep the ticket prices down and then make it back up with their food and drink prices.

Strawberry Fields Brunch is a bit!

By bluesmama11 |

Such a fun thing to do on a Sunday morning! Over two hours of live Beatles music performed by very talented and experienced musicians. Good acoustics. And the brunch food was good as well - we all had a fun time singing and even got up for some dancing. Fun “tourist” thing to do when in NYC.

Peter & Jeremy - Awesome

By moongirl |

This was our first time at City Winery and we loved it! Went to see Peter Asher and Jeremy Clyde perform. Great show and great storytellers bringing us back to the 60's. The food was wonderful. Grilled radishes were amazing with butter sauce. I had the Organic Chicken and my husband had the Salmon. Both dishes were off the charts! The place is super cool and service is terrific, could not have asked for a more enjoyable evening. Can't wait to go back.

Great show, but eat elsewhere!

By Ann c |

We had two separate experiences. We saw Lucy and Suzzy Roche in the Loft, and the show was great! We were nervous about being in such a tight space, but almost everyone was wearing masks. Dinner, on the other hand was very mediocre. With all of the good choices in Chelsea, I would not eat here again.

Excellent service!

By Helena |

What a great place. Outstanding service. Huge wine selection & always terrific music. Tonight we’re here to see Colin Blunstone. Our server Rey is the best! So polite and made sure there was no shellfish in my fish entree. Terrific night out!

Great concert venue

By wendellbon |

While visiting NYC, our daughter found a Dave Barnes concert at City Winery. We didn’t hear about the place before the show. It was an awesome place to hang out for a drink and the concert. The restaurant has multi-levels and the stage in visible from most seats. Within minutes of being seated, we were welcomed by a sommelier who offered to help us with wine selections. The service was great throughout the night. We enjoyed the evening and will definitely be back.

Blech

By Ian S |

Not sure what was worse - the food or the service or the wine. Trying to upsell mediocre wine with a band's name on the label - well, were I the band I would be careful about that. It's pretty sad. Greasy bread, flavorless apps and inattention to any kind of detail, this joint caters to the less discerning crowd. If you are looking for something slightly less then "meh", we got your ticket.

Great experience, great food

Great shows in a place with a great vibe

By Andrew K |

My wife and I were here for a show: "Wesley Stace's Cabinet of Wonders" and we had a great time, so much so that we'll come again for the April event, with all-different musicians and guests -- this time including Salman Rushdie! Street parking in the neighborhood is free after 7 pm -- right near the entrance to the Holland Tunnel. And the house wines are pretty good!

Wedding at City Winery

By J0Pet |

We attended my nephews wedding at Cty Winery. It was an exclusive affair with good food , a nice venue and good music. Very expensive though.

Intimate space for good music

By Linda_F_NYC |

My friend and I were drawn to the Laura Nyro retrospective, Stoned Soul Picnic. We arrived separately; I was got there early and was welcomed by a friendly host who happily let me wait at the bar with no pressure to purchase anything. My friend and I had a nice meal -- nothing special, but good -- and very much enjoyed the show. Arrive early for the best seats, since there is no reserved seating. It was a really lovely evening.

Beware the mulled wine

By Kat |

We stopped by the outdoor stand to drink a cup of mulled wine. $24 later (not including the tip) we were now in the possession of two of the worst cups of wine I’ve ever encountered. It was completely undrinkable due to the bitterness. When we asked about it the bartender agreed that it was bitter and offered us sugar packets and a plastic spoon, not a refund or a glass of something else. Great concept with the outdoor seating but due to the poor product and bad service I cannot recommended it and will not return.

Great place for music, food & service

By RachelGallant |

Brian was great, very attentive and helpful. This place is the perfect spot for music, wine and food, especially in the winter in NYC.

Nice venue for Shows

By ADM12 |

My husband and I visited this restaurant to view a comedy show. The place was crowded but we had pre selected seats… Due to the number of people, there were very long lines for the washrooms unfortunately… the show was good and the servers were able to serve drinks efficiently… we did not get to try the food however.

Great venue with consistently great lineup of musical acts

By Jim0048 |

Along with the Bitter End on Bleecker Street in Greenwich Village, City Winery has become my other favourite New York City venue. During my summer visit to New York I attended five gigs at the venue, and thoroughly enjoyed each one — just as I have done on previous visits. The venue is small enough that you can get good views of the stage no matter where you sit, and big enough to accommodate several hundred patrons. The sound system seems to be the perfect size for the venue, and I particularly like the fact that patrons treat the performers with respect by listening to their performances rather than trying to talk and shout over the top of them. Each time I visited City Winery I enjoyed a meal and a couple of drinks, which along with what I hope was a generous tip cost me USD$45-$50 (the cost of tickets to each gig was of course extra). TIP: Check the site well ahead of your visit and book your seats; popular acts can sell out at the venue very quickly.

Music with Adults

By hill10003 |

Leave the kids at home. This is a great place to watch music from when you were a kid. City Winery is a place for artists on their way down. And there’s nothing wrong with that!

Great venue. Delicious Food. Great Service

By Colleen R |

I love the intimate ambiance. You can have a conversation without having to scream over the music and crowd noise. My server, Rey, was very attentive and answered any questions I had about the menu. I ordered the Pat Lafrieda Burger medium rare with cheese and a side of fries. It came out just the way I like it. Smaller portions but very delicious. I definitely recommend coming to City Winery either for a show, for a date, or for after work drinks.

Good small music venue

By nycamy2018 |

I booked bar stool seats for a concert for my boyfriend and me. Some of the seating of this type is kind of behind a pole so you may not have good sight lines to the stage but our seats were actually really good for viewing the show since they were elevated and I'm short :-). I really enjoyed the bands playing and didn't find it too loud although I'd recommend some sort of ear plugs if you have sensitive hearing. Wine was great and fairly priced in my opinion. The wait time for wine was minimal but the food took a while. I loved the risotto balls but didn't care for the calamari. It wasn't bad just something I wouldn't order again. Bathroom lines were a bit long, and it wasn't crowded in the bar area, but that's really my only "complaint"! Tip: check the cross streets because Google maps was guiding me to the wrong place when I entered city winery.

Disappointing food....overcooked and DRY

By Mandy A |

Talk about super disappointing... when I read the menu I was very excited everything sounded really good but the food was completely overcooked and extremely dry. They need to hire more staff to work there because even to get another drink took about 20 minutes and I ended up going to flag down my waiter. We were there to see a concert and the music was great with the service and the food were not. It's Such a Pity because the location is fantastic it would have been great if the food matched up in some way

Nice place but eat somewhere else

By THECURCIOS |

Went for a concert and the place is nice enough. My mistake was I thought it would save time by eating there. Menu looked ok enough. It took forever to get a glass of wine no less a bottle. My husband finally gave up and went to the bar himself to get drinks. I ordered the hanger steak medium. It came out mooing(rare). I sent back but still would not help this meal. It was not worth the effort of chewing. The venue itself is nice and sound was good. Do yourself a favor and eat somewhere else.

Decidedly Average

By Erik_and_Cheryl |

We had dinner here on June 23,2025. We were warmly greeted and promptly seated. Our server arrived after several minutes. He took our drink orders and stated the bar is slammed so you will get your meal before your drinks. We looked around and the place was only half full. We order our food. Erik got an order of Calabrian Chicken Wings and a Garlic Shrimp Skewer while Cheryl order a side of broccoli as she was not that hungry. The food arrived very quickly and was wall presented. The food did in fact arrive before our drinks. The chicken wings were the smallest wings we had every seen, measuring less than 2 inches in length, however they were very tasty. The shrimp skewer was decently sized and came with some nice sides. The skewer was good. The broccoli was a nice size and tasted great. Our server did not come back to check on us until we were nearly finished. We did observe him going from table to table, complaining on how busy he was. We finish our meal and were ignored for a good 15 minutes before our server arrived. We asked to order desert. Cheryl got the dark chocolate mouse and Erik got Jack's Skillet Cookie. We also ordered spike coffee drinks. The deserts arrived before the coffee drinks. The deserts were good. It took another 15 minutes or so to get the check. So this was quite a mixed bag. Maybe a bad not for the server, but good food. Does not do so well on our price for value scale. Would we eat here again? Maybe.

Rude, insensitive, complete opposite experience to the previous City Winery NYC hospitality

By A2012178 |

Insensitive and zero customer orientation. Complete insensitivity to handicapped patrons. I have been a regular patron at the previous City Winery for multiple concerts and always had a wonderful experience - good hospitality, great ambience, helpful staff. My experience at the new venue was truly upsetting and deplorable. Sorry to say the new venue is far from this hospitality standard. Poor management, rude and insensitive staff, unwillingness to help handicapped patrons without multiple reminders. Awful customer orientation, the worst I have ever experienced at any music hosting venue in NYC. Patrons with physical disabilities should not expect much in terms of help / decency / kindness even for a basic request. Would recommend staff at the hosting and floor management to go through sensitivity and customer management training

Great wine and views

By Alex M |

We escaped the heat of NYC and Little Island around noon by finding a table at City Winery. Glad we did. We had a wonderful house Rose, which quickly followed by a lovely house White (don't remember the names now). Had a few apps, including an amazing hummus and a very tasty and interesting burrata. The view of the water and Little Island added to a nice charm. And service was fantastic. Place is absolutely huge, and looks like has some great acts lined up to perform. Although on a busy night, I don't know how men's room will handle the crowd with 1 urinal to share. Definitely will be back, and recommend to others.

Ran out of food

By Tamara J |

Went to the Dave Hollister show at 9pm on 3/7/25 and they ran out of almost every food item we asked for. I’m assuming that they ran out because of the earlier show but that shouldn’t have happened. If you’re going to do multiple shows a day, they you should be able to accommodate your guests. I’m sure this is not the first time happening. Also, they have a food/drink minimum. In which I don’t understand, if you don’t have the food for us to order. Other than that, we had a good time. I love Dave Hollister and he put on a good show. I will return and hopefully next time, they have food.

Cope at his acoustic finest

By Jonathan B |

The space is gorgeous. The food was very enjoyable. We went for Clarence Greenwood and he did not disappoint. The acoustics at City Winery were phenomenal

Makes Ticketmaster Look Great

By Bill O |

I tried to purchase tickets for a show at this venue the morning they went on sale. The website was overloaded, so I was sent to an online queue tool that served as a gatekeeper for allowing people into the website. I waited in that queue for over three hours, even though I was given an estimate of 35 minutes waiting. When I finally was allowed on the site, I clicked through several different dates to find available tickets. I got through to checkout on two tickets. I logged into my City Winery account, entered all of my credit card information and my billing address in the appropriate text fields, and clicked through to complete the transaction. The clearly broken website kept bouncing me back to the order form telling me to fill out my shipping information (which is totally unnecessary AND I believe that information is already included in my City Winery account that I had signed into). THERE WAS NO SPACE TO FILL IN SHIPPING INFORMATION!!!!! I kept trying to complete the transaction until finally, the broken website booted me back into its hour+ queue. City Winery refused to do anything to rectify this situation.

Ian Hunter Birthday Bash

By CaggyM |

We visited City Winery on two consecutive nights to attend a concert and visited several other times for drinks and snacks. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable concerning the drinks, of which there is a wide variety The food we had was good and nicely presented, we had a cheese platter and duck tacos both delicious. The concert room was a perfect size, quite intimate with table service. We were looked after very well by our server David and were very impressed. Overall a really good venue to visit even if only for a drink.

False advertising

By Shauna99 |

Went here for a Bob Dylan Tribute show for my birthday. Ended up with 3 electric guitars, a drum set with 5 mikes playing nothing that sounded like Dylan. Oh yeah, half the food never came. When I left after 3 ear scratching songs I was told I'd get tickets for a different show to compensate me. After multiple outreach emails to the manager, still no response! Bait and switch

Cocktails al Fresco

By DJMXX |

Enjoyed a glass of wine (many selections on tap) and a couple of small plates outside on a rare warm autumn evening before heading to dinner. Oddly the traffic snarl pre-Holland Tunnel was not at all distracting. It seemed a world away. We loved the risotto balls with a spicy tomato sauce and the shishito peppers. They have musical acts on many nights and a great casual vibe.

A Great Live Music Venue in an iconic location

By A M |

We went to one of the evening Leonid & Friends shows and it was a great night out. The show room is not overly large nor is it small, I think just the perfect size for a show. Entry and table service was well done. We didn't eat but enjoyed a decent bottle of wine. Seating was limited when we booked and so we ended up with two spots at an High Top Table for four at the back of the room. As it happens I think we lucked out. The High Top Stools elevate you so to give a great view and the round high top tables didn't feel too cramped. Conversely the floor seating in front of us, at long tables, seemed very cramped. If we ever went again it would only be the High Tops again or perhaps balcony seating. We had a best time and Pier 57 is worth visiting even without going to a City Winery show.

Great Service

Saw Peter Wolf. He is still and always will be amazing. Also, service by Autumn was amazing. Cannot say enough good things. Best. Robert E.

From Left to Right!

By Marquita D |

Left - A guy was in our seat and was irate about moving. Right - City Winery hostess and manager took care of the situation by avoiding him and putting us in even better seats with great customer service! They saved the night and my daughter's Rocky Horror show experience! Thank You!

Great place for a concert!

By Glenncca |

Was here for two nights with Ian Hunter. Great atmosphere, it was great to go to a concert and be greeted warmly instead of dealing with thuggish security! I had dinner one night, great pizza and craft beer! If you get a chance to see a concert here go for it!

A let down

By Jan M |

Poor venue for music. expensive ticket price, with expensive drinks. Wobbly table, shared with total strangers and poor bathroom facilities. Not to mention the leaking ice from the wine cooler soaking me. At this price expect far better than this I’m afraid.

Do not go to City Winery in downtown Manhattan- most horrible service

By Amir |

Five of us attended Klezmer music on Sunday with option ordering lunch, which we did. My wife and I left after 2 and half hours of music. Great music but NO FOOD provided. The most inept kitchen and service that I experienced on NYC ever!! Even after we pointed to our server and the manager that we did not get our food after waiting patiently for 45 minutes, still nothing was done. CITY WINERY never again!!

Disappointing

By Isabelle M |

We have been to the Nashville City Winery and had an amazing experience there so I was excited to try the NYC location but was very disappointed. First of all, it’s confusing, you don’t really know where the entrance is, second of all, there is multiple rooms and we ended up in the small part, very noisy, tight spaces. The food was okay, the waitress was nice but they brought the appetizers and the entrées in the same time! It’s only when I went to the bathroom that I discovered the main restaurant, « the loft » and the entrance is actually on the side, not on Varick St.

Entertaining show

By Gerard A |

We are Carol King and James Taylor fans so when a show about their story was announced we booked it. The show itself cost $22 a head and dinner and drinks to be paid on the night. The show was very enjoyable. The menu looked nice and we ordered the Caesar salad with Chicken and the char-grilled burger. The quality of the food was good but it was cold. I mentioned this to our server and he assured me he would speak to is manager. I received some compensation on the check and was happy with that. On the whole a nice venue and nice people.

One of the best music venues around

By wheelie07042 |

I've been going to see shows at City Winery since it opened in 2008 / 9. Safe to say that if you're a music fan based in or around New York City, you already know about it. If you're thinking about it, I'll give you some pros and cons. On the plus side: * The acts are great. I've seen some of my blues, rock, jazz and soul heroes on that stage * The acoustics and the sound system are wonderful * The food is very good and as you'd expect, the wine selection is top notch. * Atmosphere is great On the minus side: * Service is inconsistent * It's on the pricey side * You really are crammed in. Some of the tables for 4 should really be for 2 - But hey, it's rock and roll, right? You're here for the music. I would recommend getting a Vinofile membership (or a Wine Club membership) as you get notified about up coming shows before the tickets go on sale to the general public, and that means you get to select some of the better seats in VIP areas. Overall, it is a great (though cramped) restaurant with an amazing calendar of shows. As I'm leaving NYC, I'll really miss it.

Brunch Scam at City Winery on Pier 57

By AnubhaC |

Avoid at all cost. We bought family for brunch and live music (Beatles ). To say that this brunch was a disappointment is an understatement. The place was just sad. It was a big hall with cafeteria style tables and a stage. The curtains were drawn and it was dark. The performers had the worst wigs and the music was terrible. The only thing worst than the ambience was the food. A very sorry small buffet at the far end of this cavernous room. The quality of the food was downright deplorable. Everything was cold, the eggs were white and congealed, bacon burnt. Coffee was in to go cups. A complete rip off from the start to finish. To think that they can get away with such subpar food and experience in NYC . The joke is on the proprietor - the place that is large enough for 200 ppl barely had 30ppl it it. Even the sad Beatle’s band commented on the puny size of the crowd. The brunch is a tourist trap. Run away! For their prices you can get an amazing brunch at some of the top places in NYC like Baltazar. This is a scam!!!

Great Performance/Ok Food

By Peter F |

We went to see the show to honor Joni Mitchell's 75th birthday. The music and performance was excellent, the food and service not so much.I ordered soup and a burger. Oddly they came out together as did my wife's appetizer and entree. In addition we were seated on bar stools about as far fro the stage as you can get.

Incredibly Popular Venue

By Pam C |

This is an incredibly popular concert and wine venue that usually sells out for shows. Once reservations are made for a concert or wine event, you have your seats beginning (in our case) at 6 PM for an 8 PM show. We met our friends at 6, had a couple drinks and ordered dinner which was great! I had braised short ribs that were tender, meaty, and delicious. Hubby had duck breast which he proclaimed as some of the best he had ever had. Because this is primarily a venue for events, we were surprised and delighted that the food was so delicious! As the time nears for the event, the place fills up and becomes extremely noisy and difficult to carry on a conversations. Only minor complaint we had was the tables were really small for four people to dine and they were really close together! Otherwise, service was great by Lydia, food was delicious, concert (Ronnie Spector) was GREAT!

Awesome!

By rnock77 |

Views are great. Food and cocktails are fantastic. Our server Brian was a 10/10!! Will definitely be coming back for the bottomless brunch on Sunday.

Great Ambiance

By AprilTraveler_71 |

Went for a concert. The venue is perfect for it. Nice design. The food was good, not great but good. But I was mainly there to hear the music, so I didn't mind that my burger was just ok. Also sweet wine was not sweet at all.

Horrible sound system in a music club?

By 37onHerRollof36 |

Saw Los Lobos Dec 2017. V. loud hum from sound system. Bands' Monitors never got adjusted properly even in last 10 mins. Band stopped to try and use their own amp but that didn't work. Extremely long 30 min break. Hum worse after break. Band pissed. Cut show short. Complained to manager after show. Snotty answer was "its being addressed." Repeated it 2x in case I was stupid. Managers attitude tells me a lot. Been there several times and usually like the place tho is expensive. For 2 people : entrees + wines/beer $175 w/ tip plus show Tix $150. Several people left during break so they lost $$ there. Disturbingly, the credit card slip came back after waiter ran it at $10 more than check as first presented. No one could explain how THAT happened. Sure musicians like Steve Earle play there but gonna have to STRONGLY reconsider if you can't hear him over the hum and they cut set short. Kudos to Los Lobos for playing thru as professionals and not storming off.

Don’t go!

By bigearslargeyes |

After years of supporting this establishment I’m done. Tables are smaller than the chairs around them making everyone uncomfortable and insuring that any attempt to dine requires continual reorganizing of the minimal space. Food is sub par. Only eclipsed by the poor service and lack of concern for the customer. We ordered a burger with fries. They brought salad instead. Easily fixed we thought. But no. They offered to add a side order to our meal. But it was their error. While we waited for our fries we completed our meal - or tried to. We were then asked to forfeit our seats as the hostess had placed us at the wrong table. This required our group of four to transition to the next table. No offer to help us move. And no recognition that our experience was disrupted. A little charm or appreciation that our order was wrong or we were inconvenienced would have maintained this stalwart supporter as a fan. Instead. I’m not going back

Great venue for live music - too bad they're moving.

By Gord H |

Very cool room to see shows and they have a great roster of performers. The wine is great and the food is also pretty good.

Spot with a view

By foodlovergirlny |

While we were walking around Chelsea, we decided to get some dinner. We found this restaurant in Pier 57. We got there early so it was not as busy, but about the time we left, it was mostly full everywhere. As the name suggests, they have lots of wines here. In the back dining area, they have wines on the tap, which was pretty cool. We had a nice view of the water and the Little Island from our table! How cool is that? We started off with a couple of cocktails. A Sunny Day In Paris was nice and strong, sweet and fruity. Very tropical, nice drink! Then, Pineapple Mint Margarita had a nice sweetness to it from pineapple, with refreshing mint flavor, great combination! Since we were at the winery, we decided to get a Flight of Wines. We went with Classic Flight. Riesling, Rosé, Pinot Noir, and Cabernet Sauvignon. Riesling was not as sweet as I thought. Rosé was crisp and light, Pinot had full flavor, and Cab was deep and hint of oak. For food, we ordered Poke Bowl and Truffle Fries. Poke Bowl. It was fresh and juicy, great assortment of ingredients that works perfectly together. The Truffle Fries had amazing aroma and flavor of truffle, so addicting! We added Kung Pao Cauliflower and Duck Tacos. Kung Pao Cauliflower was pretty good! Duck Tacos came with two tacos. It was packed with flavor. We had a really nice dinner here. The hostess and server were friendly and polite. They have a nice cocktail and food selection, and we enjoyed everything we ordered. And, the view is really unique. The location is convenient, right next to the Little Island and nearby Chelsea market. You can do some window shopping and get some walk before and/or after the meal.

Perfect Venue

By Maria G |

Have had multiple experiences at City Winery; all excellent; food is better than average, staff excellent and venue itself gives great small club feeling.

Great concert venue!

By Rutlym |

My husband and I attended a concert at City Winery in April. We had a great experience! It's very intimate (small and a bit cramped), but our seats were wonderful. It was a really cool way to see a concert, with great table service, and excellent food and drink. We didn't realize that you could eat before or during the concert, or we would have ordered more. I would highly recommend seeing a concert at this venue. It was a refreshing departure from a large concert hall with great food and service.

Rockefeller Wine Garden

By Islandtraveler |

At first I was disappointed that the round benches were removed from the Rockefeller Plaza, to make way for City Winery and some food stands. However, after venturing in an having a good IPA they were out of the Pilsner. I have gone back just about daily since the middle of June. The beer is great, the people watching is fantastic, the ability to meet new people is outstanding. However, the greatest asset is the four bartenders I have met, Steve, Andy, David snd Joey. They are friendly, polite, helpful and great ambassadors for City Winery. I will be leaving in a week, but these guys have made my visit seem like a Cheers reunion.

Great music, no service and terrible food.

By Oleg R |

We came with family and friends to listen to the Klezmer Band on Sunday. Winery provides excellent music which is the great lure for the people to come and to have brunch. That is where good things stop. It was relatively cold and older people ate in their coats. We orders food and get mediocre quality. Place is clearly understaffed on Sunday and few waiters cannot deliver food and drinks to people in the timely fashion. Funny part, I ordered Buckwheat pancakes and (see picture) it should come with the choice of chocolate chips / Nutella or something else. Guess what, pancakes came without any toppings. It was difficult to get waiter’s attention and I spoke with the person who brought food. He advised that in the order it was not specified which type of toppings was ordered and this is my fault that I did not specifically asked for it. By the way, I was never asked about what I prefer to have. Cold pancakes without topping and coffee (was not timely delivered either) have been pretty untasty. Do not order food here.

What a treat

By Cruise Girl |

Wonderful lunch with wonderful views. First time at a city winery and really enjoyed it. I did a wine flight of red and my husband did a classic flight. Both were good choices. We also ordered a cheese board which was hugh and tasty, a Burrata, and a summer salad. All the food was excellent as was the service. Would absolutely return here.

Cool venue for music with huge wine selection but skip the mediocre food....

By wannatravelnow |

We visited City Winery last night to see Dave Mason. I have always wanted to try this venue and was looking forward to it. The place is nicely decorated and a good venue to hear music. The wine list is extensive (over 1400 different wines) and even has a pretty large selection of wines by the glass. The downsides: the food is mediocre, so come for the wine and music but go someplace else in a city with so many excellent food choices. Also parties of four are seated at tables for two with four chance which makes it very cramped, especially if you are all trying to eat dinner, literally impossible to fit everyone's food on the table.

Great tour with Drago

By ChicagoGal99 |

We had a wonderful tour of the winery and really enjoyed ourselves. Like a little vacation away from NYC in an hour,

great place to see live music

By ArnoldOttawa_Canada |

small space holds only about 300 people, so everyone has a great seat. wines are good, we had some appetizers here which were also good, but the tables in the main area are too small for dinner. maybe if you go early for dinner they have bigger tables in the barrel room?

Great music, but eat somewhere else

By Ron T |

We have been here a few times and the food has never been good. Today we had a Kale Caesar salad-OK, the avocado bread-pretty good and the 2 eggs any style-disappointing. I asked for tomato instead of potatoes with the eggs which was left off and they were reminded two more times, but it never showed. The toast was cold and had no butter so I asked for butter after seeing the dry toast but it never showed. First coffee was past its prime and bitter but it was replaced with good coffee. The refill was cold. Needless to say, service was poor.

Dining and Show 11/9/22

By sayslaw |

Great show and very good service. Food was so-so. Bland is an adequate description. Duck tacos had to be returned due to bones in the meat. The item didn’t taste much like duck.

Great Wine - Food - Music Venue

By BruceK323 |

We went to the City Winery because we were interested in seeing a show (Fab Faux - They were great - If you have a chance to see them - go). We were treated to not only a great performance, but a great venue in every sense of the word. The acoustics were great! The sound was good from my seat to the bathroom was clear and good. I have been to a lot of places that just don't sound right, this does. We had an opportunity to try several wines. Great list and options with affordable prices. Very happy with our selections. Menu was a good assortment of options (gluten free vegetarian) and also had some great desserts. Standout was the service and the attitude of the people working there. Everyone was friendly and welcoming. Because of the staff it felt like a second home. Will definitely return

Save your money for a good place

By Rosalie G |

Made a reservation for a birthday lunch, thinking that this was a lovely restaurant to take a special person to. It has a nice view of the river. However, the food was skimpy and over-priced. The waiter provided poor service, taking the order first of people who came after us. The hostess was hard to locate when we arrived and seemed unaware of our reservation, until we left. Although we had a reservation they were unable to seat us immediately because there were 3 empty tables that had not been cleared. Also, the chairs were uncomfortable. You can see the view without paying anything. I advise people to spend their money on a really nice restaurant!

Bad idea to come here go somewhere else

By Hugo P |

Worst experience and very bad service. Avoid at all cost. You can find better anywhere nearby. We ordered 7 plates that were brought at the same time, without our wine. Then we were asked if we wanted desert before even finishing our food, which was mostly cold by the time we ate it.

Great venue (consider brunch)

By moiinnj |

We had wanted to go there for quite some time for the klezmer brunch. It 's so reasonably priced ( I think the tickets were $10) and they do have a nice brunch menu with items like humus, shakshuka (!) and typical egg dishes as well. The service was good, prices were very nice for Manhattan and the music was terrific. They have different bands every Sunday so I am sure it is variable but I would expect them all to be good. They performed for more than 2 hours with a short break. I will definitely be going back. It's really a great way to spend a Sunday . doors open at 10 and the place fills up slowly, with music starting at around 11. There were couples, families with kids all sorts of people.

Great small concert venue. Average for food.

By burnsinny |

Great small concert venue. Average for food and perhaps a little overpriced. Crowed when full. Be careful of where you are seated as you may have a restricted view.

Excellent way to spend an evening

By usatravelerCT |

Every time we go to the City Winery, the entertainment is above and beyond our expectations. It's conveniently located off the west side highway, parking is easy. The size of the venue is just right. Whether it's your first visit to NYC or one of many, take a look at this venue.

Very Pleasant Experience

By le5691 |

We sat outside which was lovely. We ordered many dishes and all the plates were cleaned. Service was helpful but not intrusive.

Great space all around!

By Thelassie |

My boyfriend and I came here to see Dave Davies perform. We had reserved seats and received a warm and friendly reception at the door and we were escorted to our table. Our server, Autumn, came by with menus almost immediately. We ordered a few small plates - the risotto balls, the flatbread of the day and an olive plate. They were all amazing. Autumn also recommended the growler of tap wine - which was also excellent. Her service was top notch. The venue was also perfect for live music - the sound tech was great and we had a great view of the stage. This place is a gem in the heart of Manhattan.

Not just awesome music

By Carl K |

The main reason we come to City Winery is for their shows. Great acts in a small venue with tables (not rows of seats). However, they also have a nice wine selection (including their own) and a really good menu. Food is well prepared and service has always been above average. Some plates (e.g. cheese board) are quite small. If you come to eat before a show - give yourself time to fully enjoy your meal before the entertainment. Service is more difficult once the music starts (not a slight on the staff, just the nature of circumstance - loud and dark).

Logistical Woes

By Itsawash72 |

Logistically it’s a complicated business. When delivering the second of back to back shows your complexity level increases. Unfortunately, City Winery failed in this exercise. Here are a few observations: 1. The staff seemed frazzled at turning the house over immediately after the first show. Patrons watched them running back and forth and constantly apologizing for the delay. Perhaps finding a better staging area for the next group coming in. I get it though. Space is limited. 2. Upon being seated, the server announced they were ‘having troubles’ and made some suggestions to order cold dishes and to order two drinks or bottles vs single. Not a bad strategy but poorly executed. The tone of the request added to the thought that they were unprepared. Perhaps a better way to say would have been ‘So you don’t have to interrupt your concert experience I recommend ordering drinks by the bottle or multiplayer cocktails now’. This sounds more service oriented and less like the venue is ill equipped to handle the crowd. 3. Menu’s. Why even bother only placing one menu per table of four. It slows the process down when the server is ready to take orders. Placing QR codes instead menus would be more efficient and better for the environment. 4. Silverware. Again, getting an entire venue to turnover from a sold out show is a challenge. But it’s inexcusable to bring someone a salad with nothing to eat it with. This was not a single issue. Multiple patrons around me had to ask for eating utensils. 5. Mistakes happen! How you recover is what really matters. If you bring me the wrong bottle of wine…the server doesn’t pore the first glass ( because it’s to hard to reach the the glass) … then the replacement bottle doesn’t come until you get up from the concert to remind them. How do you really recover? At the end of the day Layla Hathaway saved the night. This venue is perfect for a performer like her. The food was very good. The venue was intimate. The staff was polite (but could use more training sand support.

Wine on the Plaza

By arubaphil |

As we strolled through Rockefeller Center Plaza, my wife and I came upon a City Winery pop up. On site were tables and chairs, outdoor heaters and igloo type structures where you could sit and be sheltered from the elements. On the day that we were there they had four wines to serve and a few small plates to accompany your wine. The pop up is a nice space to sit for awhile, have a glass of wine and people watch.

Great location, lots of recent college grads or interns

By David D |

I’ve been here several times over the past three years but our most recent visit on a Friday evening was a little different than before. The wine and menu on the roof deck are fine, it’s the view and outdoor space you’re there for. It struck me how young the overall crowd was with several undergrad summer interns there, some highly intoxicated at 7:30pm. It was definitely a different scene than months or summers past.

This was a hella of a place

Birthday dinner with bae

By Margot |

My boyfriend took me here for my 24th birthday and we had a great meal, even better service (Ashely is our girl!!!) I cant wait to come back when it’s warm to enjoy a glass of wine on the rooftop! The mushroom risotto balls were absolutely delicious and the seafood paella was incredible. We cannot wait to come back again!

Great time at the winery!

By Ashley |

Flor was amazing! She was super sweet and attentive. We had a great time it really did feel like we were at a little winery on the Hudson 😂The wines were great too!

Terrible Food and Venue - Great Performance of Carole King and James Taylor Story

By BAT |

First off - The Carole King and James Taylor show was phenomenal! I’d gladly see it again - at a different venue. The seating was incredibly crowded with waiters and patrons constantly clashing into each other. The waitress was very rude and condescending. And, our finished plates stayed on our small cramped table for over 30 minutes after we finished eating. The food - subpar. And that is being generous. For a winery, their wine is shockingly bad. We had to send it back. Again, the performance was incredible. But the loft venue is too small for the number of people they packed inside - and the food and service too terrible to warrant a return. (There was a very nice busboy at the end who helped us find the exit).

Great atmosphere, awesome event space, fantastic food and wine

By SandraGNYC |

This is a fantastic place to see shows in an intimate-but-not-tiny space; it's one of my favorite venues to see a band. There's not a bad seat in the house and the food and wine is excellent. We also had our wedding here in Spring 2013 and could not say enough good things about the experience. The event people were amazing, the food was spectacular (we still have friends mention to us that it was the best wedding food they've ever had), the wine was (obviously?!) great and the venue itself was perfect. We were able to have our ceremony in the main room before heading to the barrel room for cocktail hour -- while they reconfigured the main room for dinner and dancing -- so it was a really easy way to do everything in one place. Almost no extra decor required, either; it looked really lovely as-is (we really just added minimal flowers). Strongly recommend for any event!

Great venue for fantastic music, drinks, and a meal

By Cee T |

Visited city Winery to hear Alejandro Escovedo. The acoustics are excellent. The room is inviting and the view from nearly all of the seats is great. Dinner, drinks, and a show. ....it's a perfect night out. It's a class act!

Fun Afternoon Activity

By WBWJCR |

I arranged for a group wine tasting, and worked with Drew who was very helpful, responsive and accommodating throughout the entire process. The wines were great as were Drew’s descriptions, and many of our party purchased bottles to bring home. We then moved to the patio with the help of Tom, and continued with more drinks and snacks. The food was great and the view unbeatable! I would definitely recommend.

Show may be good but uncomfortable and terrible service

By sue5290 |

I was at City Winery to see a band and I really enjoyed that part of the evening. But, wow, I won’t go back! The seats are incredible pushed together and uncomfortable. Putting four people at every table meant for 2 made it impossible to eat. I was holding things on my lap! And you couldn’t push back at the table because there was another table and chairs right behind you. It’s not like the place was full so they could have spread things out a bit. In addition, the service was terrible. The menu was ok but expense. The server insisted on a long litany of all her favorites, which I didn’t ask her, but then I had to call her back to tell me the specials. Talk about trying to upsell. Also, I had to send a different server to ask her for the check because I couldn’t find her. After she dropped it off, she disappeared again. You would think she realized I wanted to pay! The food was average and overpriced. We asked for the burger well done but it was medium. Couldn’t find her to get it corrected. Really expensive meal on top of the show ticket price. Ugh

Dinner with Daughter

By Debs |

Met our daughter here for a quick dinner . Concert next door going on... Food was very mediocre and disappointing . Wine was the beat part of the meal. Go for the concert and don’t expect good food . Not good .

Awesome time

By JC23 |

Great Music by Phillip and his band. Great drinks by Chase and great service by Iram. Would definitely come back for another show.

Great concert space and very good food

By rlee2000 |

My wife and I saw Rhett Miller perform last night in the main room at The City Winery. Aside from his great performance, we enjoyed the new Hudson River location as it is a huge improvement over the old space on Varick street. The seating is more spread out and the menu is improved. We ate dinner and both enjoyed our meals. I had the duck tacos and my wife had a tuna bowl. Both very good. Drinks and food a bit pricey as expected but all in all we had a great time. The service was excellent as well. Looking forward to going back.

Great Music Venue; Eat Elsewhere

By Gailyn63 |

We attended the Sonny Landreth show. The venue is quite small, holding about 200 people. It took awhile for them to get the sound right, so they need to work on that. We will return, though. The food was just okay. The mushroom flatbread was mediocre, with few toppings, though the cheeseburger was decent. The house wines are nothing to write home about. I would eat elsewhere before a show.

Best Fried Chicken Sandwich

By Robert Matsuoka |

We came for a team lunch to celebrate a big PR day. It’s sad this place is closing in a year because there are very few places in NYC that can take 15 people on a moments notice. If you come for lunch you must get the fried chicken sandwich. So good in so many ways. Delicious batter, tender meat, tasty sauce. Staff were friendly and attentive.

Surprisingly good food

By Leonardo F |

Went on a lark, didn't expect much. Pub food, I supposed. WRONG! A full menu of wonderful stuff. Great boneless lamb shoulder w/ artichoke. Bistro quality hanger steak. Moist Cornish hen. Tasty linguine w/ lobster. The rice balls were great! Desert was good too. And big. Of course the Pinot and Riesling on tap were super. What a nice surprise. Go here.

Severely Understaffed

By Adrienne P |

Had a nice glass of Pinot Noire, Kung-fu cauliflower and oysters. All was good bit we waited so very long before getting service and then waiting for food. Severely understaffed that I would NEVER visit again. Managers walk around and say nothing to guests.

So much fun

By Hannah Styers |

Loved this place. Was meaning to go many times before and finally went. Sunset view was amazing and wine was phenomenal. Brian B., our waiter, was so nice.

Eat breakfast before you get here!

By Golgina |

I went with my husband and three friends to see a double klezmer billing at the loft yesterday for brunch. We got there early and the waitress promptly took our orders and quickly brought us coffee. The Metropolitan Klezmer band was great and so we didn't notice right away how long it was taking us to get out food. Finally, after an hour or so we flagged our waitress and asked when we would receive our food. She said she'd look into it and then disappeared for about 20 minutes or so. I was so hungry I went across the street and bought scones for our table. It was a good thing I did because she never brought our orders. One of us received a dish that was wrong and cold. The manager said we would get our orders for free, but then we never received them. When I asked if we could at least have a refill of our coffee (which was so so), they informed us that they were out of coffee. I finally ate whatever the waiter intended for another table. My husband got his order of pancakes when the entire performance was over and most people had left. So, I'd advise patrons to come for the entertainment and eat a full meal. The clarinetist and trombonist were amazing. The second band, Klezbos, was pretty good as well.

Great listening room!

By whosane9 |

I toured all of the City Wineries in existence in the east coast! They are very well organized venues to listen to music. The sound systems were good, the staff, friendly and helpful and the food was great ! We finished our tour in NYC and it was amazing. The crowds were enthusiastic and very attentive. If you’re a music lover or a musician looking for a venue, The City Wineries are great clubs.

Great place for an intimate concert!

By TakeMeAway44 |

We love coming here for the live music and the wine selections. You can order by the bottle or glass. Great musicians and most seats are good. You can also get a bar stool. The food offerings are a bit limited and pricey.

Friendly staff, poor food and bad wine

By Lady-Kathers |

The staff were friendly and helpful, although there appeared to be a lot of tension with management. There was a large event going on and they may have been short staffed. The food seemed to be from good ingredients but seemed rushed and was disappointing. We had the flight of red wines and the classic flight of wines. They were so poor that we drank very little of them. The reds were all very acidic and tasted so similar they couldn’t be distinguished. The whites tasted strange and as if they had been watered down. Neither of the flights had identification of the different wines. Overall we were left disappointed with our experience.

Great Venue, great wine

By Lucia M |

Great venue at the Loft at city winery. Packed house but was able to get a table that was comfortable with a great server, Autumn, who was very attentive and kept our drinks topped off! Highly recommend coming to check out live music, great wine and food.

An excellent venue for shows with varied dining options

By David S |

We hit City Winery's downstairs space at least 5 or 6 times a year, usually for the Cabinet of Wonders and also for music or comedy shows like John Waters, Aimee Mann, and Gary Gulman. Upstairs, we've seen Pokey LaFarge, Mike Birbiglia, and a few others. The downstairs venue is pretty huge and offers many seating options; we generally like to sit close, but there are balcony seats that seem pretty cool, too. Upstairs, the theater is pretty elongated. We've sat in the very back row, which I do not recommend, and right up front, which was excellent. You don't have to dine there, but we usually get there an hour ahead of time in order to enjoy a relaxing dinner. The food tends to be quite good, and the waitstaff is excellent. The bathrooms are great, and the general ambience is fantastic, too.

A great performance venue with wine and food to match

By John O |

We need more places like this! It’s a medium-sized performance space that books a broad range of acts. The acoustics are good, sight lines equally so. As its name suggests it has a good wine list by the glass or bottle, and a modest beer list. The food is quite good. Be sure to check the specials. What’s particularly nice is that staff do not press you to have another, you can listen, drink and eat in peace.

Shockingly rude service

By Snapasnort1 |

The place is lovely, the show (night one of Rufus Wainwright) was great and the food was pretty good, too. But they seated us in the wrong seats (which are assigned), then told us and gave us the choice to move or keep the seats we had (we chose the latter), then the maitre d came back and bluntly told us we had no choice and must move (no apology), then after we moved they brought our empty plates from dinner over to the cramped table after I told them we were done and when I lifted up the plates and tried to get a passing employee (who turned out to be the same maitre d) to take them, I was told once and then twice VERY RUDELY 'I do not do THAT'. So I bussed them myself. I will avoid this venue. There's absolutely no need to be rude to customers in any situation, especially one that was caused by the staff.

Rock and Roll venue

By Stageball |

The City Winery Classic Rock fans know it’s tough to find a better venue for original music acts of the 60s than the City Winery. Recent performances include The Association (Cherish, Windy, Never My Love, Along Comes Mary), Robby Kriegar (guitarist and song-writer for The Doors), Justin Hayward (singer, song-writer for The Moody Blues) and a host of others. The teens of the 60s have grown older, chronologically, perhaps, but their musical tastes have remained largely unchanged. They want the living legends and they want them now. What has changed (sometimes) is their budget. They can now afford dinner and a glass of wine. The City Winery provides both, especially the latter in all its glory. Their wine list is extensive and ranges from the quaffable to the transcendent. I chose one of their tap wines, an indulgence which never saw a bottle or cork. Direct from the cellar. I chose the Sohovignon Blanc Windrem Vinyard 2015 and, put it this way, when was the last time you had a memorable glass of vino? It was that good. The menu is extensive and Chef Michael Jeanty includes such decadence as Seared Scallops, Soppressata Flatbread, and NY Strip steak. Plenty of beer, burgers, and a full bar available too. As for the venue, every seat is a good one, the joint holds about 300 seats. The acoustics are great, and if you're in an up-front table, you're practically in the performer’s lap. Disadvantages? Well, it’s not cheap but if you want you can buy a ticket to sit at the bar and just have a beer. You'll see and hear the show just like anyone else and no one’s snooty. When they're not showcasing the creators of Rock and Roll, the bill features contemporary artists and variety theater. There is also a tour of the actual winery during daylight hours. The City Winery, -Soho (lower Manhattan) 155 Varick St, NY, NY 10013 212-608-0555

Here for a great musical evening: Joan Armatrading, Live in Concert !! I was introduced to this artiste’s music in 1985 or 86 by a friend of a friend of a friend…. and have long loved her work ~ so, could hardly pass up a chance to see her perform in the Village, NYC. And it was a wonderful experience, as Ms. Armatrading delivered everything she has delivered for decades, in her inimitable style. City Winery is primarily a wine experience, and a performance venue. I would believe the food is secondary to both the wine and the performance experiences ~ the place was originally established as what the name suggests, in around 2008, filling a void that had existed long after another popular venue in the area disappeared. The performance part perhaps caught on later, and City Winery grew into one of the premier event spaces in downtown NYC. They actually make their wonderful wines in the room next door to the dining space.. (it can be seen from there) and their wares are available for patrons, alongside a huge list of international selections. There are also regular, extensive dining menus as the place serves regular customers when no concerts are taking place. A wine club, winery tours, merchandise shop and other functions go on, on their daily schedule. The space is small in an age when one goes to sports stadia and huge arenas for such performances, but this allows for a more intimate and personal exchange between the artiste and audience ~ all seated at the same level, and within the surrounds of a largish dining space. For a performer such as Ms. Armatrading, it’s easy to see why this would be the preferred choice. She delivers and touches everyone with her song. Having said that, the concert was fabulous, and we enjoyed a few glasses of wine. Food was a really good, crispy set of Duck Tacos ($16) a fresh Kale and Caesar Salad ($14) grilled Brussel Sprouts ($7) a delicious City Winery Burger ($17) and a cheese selection. The sprouts were done to the right char.. mustardy and smoky, and the burger was very juicy and smoky. All very good. Pricey, but this is an event, and events mean pricey eats and drinks.. Such is life... live it !!

This entity would get an excellent if I totally understood it!

My cousin is a VP for a California winery and was giving a tutorial on chardonnay at this location, one I'd never heard of before. We arrived, and were greeted kindly by the host for the evening. Cous was ready to go so we took our seats, and learned some things about chardonnay I never knew. After the presentation, we were invited to taste some creations from the kitchen and mingle. Everyone of the 12 guests was interesting and interested, the kind of people you want to meet. A couple of asides, we might of been able to visit the actual winemaking room on the first floor, but there wasn't time. The food was tasty but not varied enough, though on visiting the mens room, I saw that this building is not finished being built out and so will give them a pass until they have an actual kitchen to work in. Finally, walked past a private party on floor one, on another part of floor two, there was a cabaret going on with a Sinatra sound alike who was amazing. Floor three, I don't even want to know... This place is a comer and you'd be wise to get into it early!

Glass of Wine

By Anthony S |

My wife and stopped in for a glass wine after walking around SoHo. The wine is on tap with a nice selection of by the glass local and national wines. The Cit Winery has a very pleasant atmosphere and friendly staff. You can see the barreling process in one room, wine and dine in another, and they have a concert area in the next room. My wife had a glass of Spring Street Pinot Noir 2014 and I had the Stagecoach Merlot 2014. They have a small eclectic menu and offer wine flights also. A hostess came by after we had been there about 15 minutes and offered us a malt wine. The wine was warm with whiskey and spices. VERY GOOD! The City Winery was a great place for us to relax in a nice atmosphere and receive good service and good wine. They also sell wine to take home or to your hotel at reasonable prices.

Awesome venue for music and wine

By Melinda D |

Our second time enjoying this venue. Went to see/hear Al Di Meola and ohhh what a great night it was. Crystal clear acoustics which showcased a master guitarist at his best. Every seat is great- a very intimate place for any kind of entertainment. Fantastic wine list with very knowledgeable staff. Food menu somewhat limited. Average and a little pricy for what it is. The convenience though is worth it to be able to nosh and drink while an artist performs an arms length away. A true gem for live music.

Garland Jeffreys Bash

By Peter F |

City Winery hosted a 76th birthday celebration for Garland Jeffreys. Numerous artist showed up to perform and pay tribute to this NYC musical legend. Guests included Vernon Reid, Lori Anderson, David Johansen and plenty more. It was a great evening ofGarland's music.

Terrible Venue

By Leigh |

Last night I attended a Dionne Warwick performance. It was horrendous. I’ll never return to the City Winery New York City. First, the venue. Twelve people crowded together at little tables for four pushed together. And virtually no room between rows of these tables. The chairs: the hardest, most uncomfortable chairs I’ve ever encountered with a seat cushion a millimeter thick which only accentuated the poor chair design. I can’t comment on the acoustics because of the poor performance, see below. Second, the ill-mannered patrons. Many in the audience enjoyed singing loudly along with Ms. Warwick. It got so bad that, at one point, she stopped because the audience member interrupted the song with the wrong phrasing. Who wants to hear some yahoo singing in your ear when you came to hear Ms. Warwick? Other audience members were on their cell phones talking. I know this is New York City, famous for being inconsiderate, but really? What a horror show. Third, the 81 year-old Dionne Warwick was sick. She admitted to having a cold, but it appeared much worse. Popping cold lozenges while on stage, singing off-key, not sounding at all like her recent YouTube postings. Ultimately, she couldn’t sing at all and made the performance a sing-along with the audience doing most of the singing. She had no business performing. She should have cancelled and stayed in bed to recover. And our money should have been refunded.

Nice place for Lunch

By charleyboy1955 |

Having just finished the Highline Walk we were looking for a place to have lunch. This place looked interesting so we called in. We were a little concerned we were the only diners in the restaurant which is sometimes not a good sign. In this case our concerns were unfounded, excellent service by Meghan, lovely food, the Hot Honey Pizza is thoroughly recommended. All in all a lovely relaxing lunch with the view out over the Hudson.

Very disappointing restaurant -- overpriced and very rude wait staff.

By Kathy W |

This restaurant was very disappointing. We made reservations for a birthday celebration. On entering, they did not have our reservation, and wanted to seat us in the back. We insisted on a table by the window, as we had reserved. There were many vacant tables. Then, the waiter took the orders of people who arrived after we did. When we confronted him, he became very defensive and rude; e.g., talking over us and still not taking our order. Was this due to us being two women? When our food arrived, the portion was very small considering the price. Upon leaving, the hostess wished us happy birthday, and told us that our dessert should have had a candle. We told her that there was no candle and that the waiter was rude. The waiter followed us, and never apologized for his rudeness and oversight. Overall, it seemed that this was the first day on the job for the staff; food was very overpriced for very small portions; and wait staff was rude and incompetent. Avoid this restaurant. In NYC, there are many fine restaurants with good food and wait staff.

Mallory made this experience both informative AND fun! Learned so much about the grapes needed for each wine and the perfect pairings. Will be back!!

Deceivingly tight seating chart

By Dan C |

Seating chart is deceiving. It shows separate tables, but the reality is that the small tables are placed end to end, and in lines that have barely enough room to squeeze between chairs. Expect your tables to be crammed so closely together that it will be uncomfortably tight seating.

My worst expirience in NYC, DON'T GO THERE

By Noam L |

They have changed location, they are no more at 155 Varick St. I made a reservation and recieved the old address, when arriving to a dark close place we tried to reach them on phone to find out that there is only an answering machine. We lost the pre-paid show and they won't make refund....careful!!!

Cold Food. No Heat. Disorganized!

By Maria C |

The location is good and decor is like a winery. However much work needs to be done!! Food delivered was cold and overcooked. Heat not working...so cold I ate with my coat on. Orders were delivered to wrong tables, if at all. The performance was exceptional....but the venue was a disaster!!

Dangerous place, run by insane people

By travelerNYC1972 |

Looks nice, on the water, nice design etc. That’s until you actually get seated, which in itself is an ordeal.. We sat down, order two glasses of wine and lunch, waited 30 minutes for the less than mediocre wine to arrive.. At this time, we were so frustrated by the wait, we told our waiter that we are taking a walk just outside, for a few minutes until the food arrives.. We return to our table after about 8-10 minutes, we sit down only to be told by another waiter that this isn’t our table and we have to leave. We politely explained that we have been sitting here for over 40 minutes, we have our wine in hand, and ask him to please ask our waiter who will confirm that our food is coming momentarily . This new waiter comes back and states that he asked and we have to leave!! I stormed out, not wanting any more discussions, I will gladly take my wallet to an better establishment. My wife though decided to speak to the manager.. He arrives, and screams at the top of his lungs “leave”! “Go”! I asked him “really? What are you going to do about it? He then proceeds to physically assault me, choke my with two hands, until he was restrained by fellow employees! Do I need to say more? This place is run by “insane” people who shouldn’t be anywhere near food or sharp objects!

Really terrible seating and customer service and subpar food

By karen h |

We were out for my birthday on 11/26/22. 5 of us were seated by the host at 2 tables for 4 and one table for 2 all set together. No seats for our party of 5 were designated by the hostess or the waitress. We ordered a variety of small plates - No room to have entrees. While we were eating we were rudely moved back to the second table together with all food and drinks because someone else reserved the front 2 seats. No problem. But then 15 minutes later after the waitress moved 2 empty chairs from our table to give us a couple more inches a nasty woman came over telling us we had to rearrange our seating again to accommodate 2 more people who also bought seats at that table. But worse than that this woman was nasty to my daughter who just asked her to explain the protocol that apparently neither the hostess or the waitress knew. This manager was yelling at my daughter because we were not aware of the designated seats we bought. Disgustingly rude behavior even by NY standards. Cannot recommend this venue and certainly not for any expensive private affair. Food is limited and just fair. Eat dinner elsewhere first that’s what most people do. This was a birthday present from my daughter and my husband and she left this place feeling like crap. Life is too short with too many pleasant places to go to accept this BS.

Stopped by chance and had excellent experience

By Raymond Abeltun |

We stopped by after reading reviews online. And the reviews where true :) Great place with a good atmosphere aswell. the place itself is huge, but still had imo a good atmosphere. Not the best location, but is definetly worth the 5min Uber drive.

Great music, terrible food and service!

By Michael N |

Terrific as a music venue, and The Fab Faux never disappoints. Service, on the other hand, was terrible and the food was mediocre at best. We were advised on several occasions that the bar was "backed up" and that drinks were forthcoming. They were true to form, as it took quite some time for drinks to come, but this was nowhere near as bad as the food service. The couple we were with were advised that, for reasons that were obscure, their flatbreads would take 30-40 minutes to come out. Surprisingly, their meal came out fairly quickly. They were done with their flatbreads a good 20 minutes before our overcooked hamburgers and dressing-less salads came out. It took over an hour and a reminder for the waitress - who was oblivious to the status - to be served these "gems," which required us to eat in the dark while the show progressed. It was a big distraction from the terrific music. An hour for a burger? In addition to being seriously overdone, there was no cheese to be found on the wife's burger and no one to ask about the omission. Wine selections were good but overpriced and the pours were stingy. We've been here several times and this was by far the worst service and food experience. The deterioration was obvious. Eat elsewhere and come for the show.

See a show, Wine not?

By jason p |

7/25/25 Brendan Bayliss show. Went for an intimate acoustic show and some dinner, food was spectacular (Hummus dip platter, Cheese board, Chartuecherie board). The Loft was sold out, service was on point, and attentive, vibe for a intimate performance was incredible. I also had the Bad Reputation cocktail x3. If you like a spicy cocktail, this is it!!! Overall an amazing evening with friends in a great place. Will 100% return.

Never Again

By SS S |

Attended a show at City Winery, the service was horrible. Someone was sitting in our seats upon arrival and the host tried to give us seats further back instead of making their customer sit in their correct seat. We never got service, we requested a waiter and no one came. Never again.

Shows still great, food got better at new location

By Andrew K |

My wife and I visited the new location for the first time for a comedy performance, and were wowed by the new space, but were a bit hesitant about eating here, too, based on experiences at the old location. The menu looked a lot more interesting, with clear notations on gluten-free items. Our waitress said she'd make certain the kitchen knew I had to have food gluten-free -- but the appetizer, Burrata and tomatoes, offered with a gluten-free preparation, was served with ordinary bread. A befuddled server took it back to the kitchen and came back a few minutes later with an apology. Our waitress apologized for the kitchen, too, which was hardly over-worked an hour and a half before showtime. The $15 dish was excellent, as was the cauliflower-crust flatbread with lobster ($37!) and my wife's Ratatouille with Baked Polenta ($26). The side of Wild Mushrooms ($12) was perfect. I tried the Roussanne white wine ($14) which was fine, and my wife liked her Sunset Negroni ($14). We're glad the City Winery is back with live shows, and we're glad that we'll be sure to eat here again.

Go for the music, tolerate the food and wine

By Kurt O |

The music is great. The stage is large and elevated with amazing sound. The new location on the pier has beautiful water views. Go for the music and you will be happy. I've been going for over 10 years and am always delighted by the amazing music. That said, they never got the menu right and the wine they make is some of the worst that I have ever tasted in a restaurant. The Charcuterie and Cheese platter for $32 had some really questionable selections that seemed like the cheapest things they could find. You can see that they make a lot of money in the food and beverage business because comparable dishes at any other venue would go for a fraction of the price, if they ever had return customers. This business model has been so successful that City Winery opened locations up state, in Hudson and in Boston, Philly, DC, Atlanta, Chicago and Nashville. They definitely are doing something right. The reason I'm writing this review is that I went last night and really wanted to like their wine. I keep thinking that although last time I didn't like it, maybe this time I'll try something different and it will be better. They now offer flights of their wine. The Unique Reds flight included: Cabernet Frank, Syrah, Mouvedre, and Petite Syrah. I hoped to like at least one of them. No. They were all hideous and tasted extremely similar., lacking any character or depth. So eat a little something before hand and order cocktails, or wines you already know from their extensive wine list, sit back and enjoy the music.

Excellent venue for music food and the combination

By KevinPenthouse |

Excellent venue for music food and the combination of bot . .. the rooms are so comfortable the main room which I beleive holds 400 or so and now the loft which holds 200 or so are just great place to enjoy a meal some drinks wine and otherwise and the musicall talent which is always world class

Great Venue - No Bad Seats, Good Food, Reasonable Prices, No Minimum.

By JackInBrooklyn |

This is a great place to go hear music. There are not really any bad seats. As with most Manhattan music & dining venues, it's a bit cramped. If your seat faces the wrong way, you will have to rotate in your chair to see well. But that's what you get in NYC. The sound is very good. They get good acts. The food is well made and not as overpriced as much of the competition. It's nice they don't impose a minimum.

Cool spot to enjoy a glass and people watch

By Loungesong |

No frills, just a cart with wine in Rockefeller Center. Great location to people watch. Funny how New York went from smelling like cigarette smoke, to no smoke, to the smell of weed.

A horrible experience

By MR |

I went with family on an evening to be seated for wine only, while the restaurant seemed emptier than earlier. The host or man who would lead guests to seats said we cannot be seated for wine only (please note the place is literally called a "winery") and told us we can go to the bar because they were too "busy;" the place was emptying at that time, and I could visibly see that. That along with prior complaints that this restaurant is late/unresponsive regarding food makes me question why the place even exists. Horrible treatment, and we ended up going to be restaurant nearby, outside he pier, for wine. Take your money and time, and go elsewhere. Horrible service. If that particular host is reading this - the customer is always right and you cannot tell them what they can and cannot order. If management is reading this, get a new host and be on top of your service. Pathetic, do better City Winery. You lost a good tip and good review.

Great place - food.....ok

By GavinGoesPlaces |

Great place to see great music and enjoy the evening, but honestly, eat before you come. The food is massively overpriced and isn't that great, and the descriptions make it sound much better than it is. Squid Ink Pasta with Lobster - okay, sounds great until it literally comes out swimming in marinara sauce you get at a sports bar. What a great way to spend $30. I will give them credit for having a nice beer selection, of all things. Many brews you can't get in other parts of the city, given the fact it's a winery and they're trying to shove bottle service down your throats from the moment you arrive. Major drawback - it's cabaret style seating. So it gets crowded and is still noisy when great artists are singing through great songs. But still one of the better places in town to see a show, 1/7th of the prices of Cafe Carlyle.

A pleasant evening

By Alan304 |

We attended a MasterCard Priceless dinner before the show. The food was a little better than expected and the staff was attentive. The concert room seating is tight. Yes, we will return.

First time visit with a winning formula!

By 1francophile |

Join friends at this special, intimate venue for the first time and was completely satisfied with ambience, seating, sound and the memorable experience! After a fine meal and conversation at their restaurant next door I joined two friends along with my new found restaurant mates for the Greg Allman Reunion Band Tour. For almost two hours we were entertained with tunes from the Allman Brothers to Greg’s solo work that had special guest and was truly special. The staff and the patrons add to this experience with care, consideration and support of each other and the musicians. Can’t wait see a show at their new facility in the future! Very Highly Recommended!

Something else

By hirschpeter1 |

If you would dare to force some of the artists that appear at the City Winery to play under these circumstances anywhere in Germany they would hit you hard with their artist rider. The stage is small for a band like Los Lobos and the space of the audience sitting, dining and drinking is limited but the sound in this somehow beautiful winery is very good and there are a lot of fantastic artists that seem to enjoy to play there. We enjoyed the night - especially because Los Lobos really were fantastic.

Went to see a concert got a Q and A session with the musician and almost no music

By drevulphd |

Went into City Winery to see a show, thought I was going to see an Acoustic music show with some Q and A after the show. Dweezil Zappa was the artist, great personality very talented artist. Seating was actually very uncomfortable we sat at a large table not far from the stage but I was on the wrong side of it and my back was to the stage, reserved seating! If i turned my chair around it would have blocked the aisle so no one including the wait staff could make it through so I had to sit sideways for two hours with my head turned. Needless to say I had a sore neck when left. We had dinner before we got there as we were warned the food is not so good. We waited for a bout 20 minutes before our server came over and asked if we wanted anything. We actually had a waiter come sooner to ask if we had any questions we want to ask for the performer, but he did not take orders, LOL. It was basically a story telling night about is life with his father Frank Zappa and every once in a blue moon he would show how something was done on his guitar. He was never prepared to play any full music. He had an Interviewer "Kennedy" from MTV fame who was also a buddy and it sounded like a walk down memory lane for them. Kind of got boring after the the second story about life with Frank, really wanted some music interspersed. If you go there eat before and be prepared for not a lot of service. We had 2 coffees and 1 Irish whiskey shot as they did not make Irish coffee! $25 plus ticket prices for the show. Small stage, if your not sitting in the right areas I would think you would not see the full bands.

Autumn was AMAZING

By hsterrs9392 |

Our waitress, Autumn, at City Winery Loft was incredible. So attentive, helpful, and personable. She made our experience that much better. We never had to wonder where our server was or remind her of our order. She was amazing!

Great Little Music Venue

By UpstateROB |

Great Music Venue. I saw the David Bowie Birthday bash, which was fantastic. What a fun place to spend a few hours for like $30 or $40 to see a well-done music review of one of my favorites. I found the wait staff to be fine, but I only had a beer ($13) as the food is very expensive and not what I wanted. But if you can catch a back row hi-top seat to a show you want to see, just go.

Four star concert venue with three star food

By Alan304 |

As a concert venue, the City Winery is very good. The cocktails are uninspired and watery. The beer selection is solid. The staff is attentive and helpful. We will return for future shows, but will probably eat somewhere else.

Great spot for live music

By Donna |

This is a great place to see live music. The new location is a bit further from subway but the sound quality is as good, if not better, than before. Food is surprisingly good and prices are reasonable. There’s not a bad seat in the house!

"VIP" allowed to harass other patrons

By stockmanjr |

Had an awful experience at City Winery last night. During the show a misogynist dude started to harass me and a female friend. Went to get security who brought over the service manager Freddy. After this dude was abrasive to Freddy and security he was still allowed to stay and their original answer was to move us which we refused to do. Security stood in the back and the dude continued to harass us. Finally we had enough and my friend decided to engage him and I once again went to get security. Security came over and refused to eject the person and attempted to buy us off with a round of drinks. Clearly this person was a VIP and even after being abrasive to a manager was allowed to stay. We decided to leave fearing our safety. An utterly unacceptable situation that really could have escalated into something dangerous. At the end of the day I guess being a VIP at City Winery is more important than the safety of patrons. 0/10 do not recommend.
