Enjoyable Experience

Food selection was interesting and very well prepared. Servers were excellent. Nice atmosphere. Can be very loud.

Amazing Dinner

By Cheftpt84 |

Oooo what a cute restaurant. With amazing staff and delicious food. The food was spot on. We had loads of food, but if I remember right we had, radishes, eggplant, foie gras special, chicken tagine, ribeye, seafood stew! All the dishes we delightful and we even finished with fresh home made Madeleines. Wowsa. Now that was a meal.

A laidback atmosphere with great food

By Ian J |

We went on a quiet, cold Sunday evening in February and it was warm, inviting and cosy inside. The food was delicious and consistently so across all the dishes we ordered. I liked the portion size. The service was attentive but not instrusive. A great night out.

Cute restaurant bit expensive

By Katarina M |

Didn't plan to eat but we were hungry and this little restaurant was on our way so we got in. For the four of us price was over 200 $. Small portions. Everything is payed separately main dish and sides, bread. Its kind of a fancy restaurant. Would not go back.

Nice & Cozy

By Ignacio B |

We went to Claudette on a rainy and cold day of February back but they make us feel like at home from the beginning. Elegant and casual restaurant with an interesting menu which brings the intense and rich flavors of France in Northern Africa. Blend of cultures and flavors in a fun and exquisite format. The hummus with truffle oil is one of the best that I have ever tried and the chicken main course is definitely worth it. Interesting wine list with remarkable rose options from Provence. The service was nice and attentive, lovely and intimate atmosphere. Cool and unpretentious restaurant, 100% recomendable.

A new Provençal dining experience

By Nocke |

A friend suggested meeting at Claudette and I am glad we did. The wait staff was friendly and efficient. And the food was a treat. I had a bean soup with a pleasant spice kick to it. And my lamb sandwich was tasty. The ambiance is relaxed and patrons can linger without being rushed. The prices are reasonable. Our meal ended with a deliciously light yogurt cake.

Charming

By S B |

We stumbled on this as we were walking towards Greenwich village..due to bad thunderstorms...anyway we choose the set menu..food was good, quite different..would not recommend egg plant..but would recommend chicken tagine. Food price due to set menu choice was ok...prices for drinks very expensive.

ABSOLUTELY SUPERB!!!

By Brian P |

My husband & I recently dined here with another couple who recommended it. They had eaten there before over a year ago & the waiter amazingly enough remembered them & gave them a warm welcome while we were waiting at the bar. Luckily enough we were seated in his section. There restaurant itself is fantastic, but the waiter made the whole experience EXCEPTIONAL! He gave us such fantastic recommendations on drinks, wine, & food choices. He was very friendly & personable. The entire staff was very gracious & kept on top of us (in a good way) during the whole meal. Even the manager came to make sure we were enjoying ourselves. The 4 of us left very full & very happy! This place should be on the top of anyone's list!

French sensibility on lower Fifth Ave

By Pamela R |

We recently celebrated a birthday with Sunday lunch at this lovely French-inflected spot just steps from Washington Square Park. Service was attentive but not pushy, the food superb, drinks inventive, and the overall experience a delight. I've been several times to enjoy a glass of rose and snacks at the bar, also a very pleasant way to enjoy Claudette.

Always the best

By Don B |

The food is always wonderful. The help is always friendly and attentive, even when sitting outside in a little pod on the sidewalk. Utterly painless vaccine check. Beautiful oysters, and lamb tagine. Perfect!

Charming atmosphere, great brunch

By Roberta H |

So nice to be at a place where you can have a conversation without shouting. Wonderful attentive service. Interesting and different French menu. Hubby ordered the harissa soda. Really good We shared the liver mouse which came with charred flat bread. Delicious. I had the smoked salmon with scrambled eggs and red caviar. Hubby ordered the tuna salad Nicoise. He loved it, but I'd call it grilled tuna with an Arugala dressing.

Summer dining

By DM2SB |

Good menu selection. Loud restaurant with generic service. Order the scallops and good wine selection.

Totally unprepared about wine

By Fattoria d |

I asked for a wine and the lady said that it was her favorite one. This is no the way to explein a wine, Bread 8 dollars each. The lady brought away my glass with the wine in. Come on I have to finish to drink it. Disappointed. The other people were kind and proactive. Food was pretty good

Pleasant Sunday Lunch

By OnehandEconomist |

Hard to call out anything particularly spectacular but Mrs Onehand liked the place, the people and the food. And you don’t argue with a canny Scot. So don’t big it up, just go, enjoy, be part of the crowd, come home happy.

What a treat!

By Baltomania |

We chose this because we walked by as we were headed south - canceled out other dinner reservation when we were able to get a table. Lovely bar and nice bartender where we waited until we could order. Server was so very nice as were other staff members. We had various fish entrees with beet salad as starter - plus a chocolate dessert (like pot du creme) that was outstanding. We were not rushed at all - had 5:30 reservation and finished up in time for 8 pm performance several blocks away. Let them know if you are on a schedule and may be able to accommodate. We will definitely return. Esp given the warmth of staff.

Lower Fifth Avenue Eatery

By AJAX6965 |

Claudette has lovely food but slow service. We had assorted appetizers and then the chicken and salmon, which took over half an hour to appear. Very genial waiter. Excellent wines.

Excellent

By marabel100 |

We had exactly one hour for a business lunch, so I was a little nervous about going here since it’s finer dining. But it worked out well. They gave us a roomy table for five, kept bringing us water, took our order quickly, and served us promptly. The food was delicious! The server was a little surly, but we won her over a bit by the end. I’m definitely going back. The atmosphere is lovely, and I appreciate the decor. We shared the Madeleines for dessert, which were perfect!

Lovely spot for a get together with friends

By Laura B |

Great food and setting for brunch. There were some gluten free options on the menu however this was limited as they do not have gluten free bread.

Thank you Claudette for ruining my special event. Would never consider this place again.

By natatravell |

We came to Claudette to celebrate a special occesion, and placed a reservation in advance. Besides they had so many tables available on a main floor and outside. Instead of having a pleasant joyful event, we ended up to be locked in a basement without windows and terrible smell from the kitchen that made me nauseous, not to mention, you needed to climb the steep stairs, making one afraid to to break their legs if they are not in your twenties, or even fourties. Some cocktails listed in menu were not available, and the ones that were available were not good either. When I ordered eggs Benedict with salmon, they came back in some time saying salmon is not available, and I had to choose some other item from the menu. The other dish with eggs ended up being tasteless, I had to order a different dish again. So overall, the experience was very disappointing, and not to mention, the bill was very high for such an unpleasant experience. We’ve been to this place a few times, never experienced any problem previously. Thank you Claudette for ruining my special event. Would never consider this place again.

Pretty Restaurant on Lower Fifth Avenue

By ronco0807 |

Lovely restaurant with outdoor seating as well in warmer weather. The waitstaff is friendly and professional. They are tentative to your needs without being obtrusive. The menu features Mediterranean and Provencal cuisine. The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, dinner and weekend brunch. Appetizers I've had are the hummus (very good) and the Sweet Potato Falafel (a miss). Entrees I especially liked were the scallops and the lamb tagine. The wine by the glass selection is good.

Something for everyone

By si101503 |

Frankly and happily surprised by just about everything about the place. My wife of many years and I live nearby and I had not been particularly interested in trying the place because I assumed it would be more of a singles scene that good restaurant, but I was wrong. A very mixed crowd with a critical mass of young couples, older couples, two-generations, and friends, alike. Somewhat loud at 7, but bearable and quieted down some. Staff made us feel as though we belonged there and all of the food was at least good, some excellent. Not that much traditional French, some but also a number of north African (most Tunisian?) dishes. Mint salad, tanjine, and ile flotante probably the highlights. Interesting wine list and can't recall whether I've ever had a som explain a delay in serving a modest bottle because he found the first one corked and returned for second. prices not unreasonable. Looking forward to going back.

Charming!

By BrookMama |

Claudette is a very charming restaurant. The tables are well spaced allowing you to hear your dining companions without shouting. The menu is varied with lots of choices for a vegetarian. Our waiter appeared to be a new hire, as he often could not answer our questions, but he cheerfully and quickly found out. The wine list is reasonable too.

Only the beignets

By aigici |

Let begin from the end. The beignets were Unbelievables. They saved the dinner. Too overpriced and not special at all. Disappointing

Overpromised and Underdelivered

By Melissa F |

I have to say; overall I was a little disappointed with this meal. The service was excellent, with the exception of one thing. I had the filet mignon au poivre with the frites. It was one of the saltiest dishes I have ever had in a restaurant. Almost to the point that it was inedible. When our server came over the check on us, I made a point of mentioning this to him - how salty the sauce on the steak was and the seasoning on the fries. His response was not to mediate it though, but rather to laugh and go “bummer”. He made no attempt to take the plate back or not charge for the 2nd glass of wine I had. This just didn’t sit right with me. The only thing he did say later in the meal is that the chef apologized for the saltiness in the sauce but that ‘they don’t know what happened’. The other thing that bugged me about the meal was the end when it came to payment. We did not receive a bill, but our server came over with the wireless machine and just told us the total. Me, my preference, I like to look at an itemized check. These small details would deter me from dining here again. I think this place, in the end, is mostly hype.

A great place to have brunch

Delightful Setting with Good Food and Laid Back New York Ambience

By Barry B |

Situated on 5th Avenue just across from Washington Square Park this is a gem of a restaurant. In appearance on a quiet street corner with 5th Avenue is delightful and very inviting with a choice of sitting inside or out. We chose to get out of the heat of the day and dine inside. Staff were efficient, professional, friendly and attentive. Unusually for my wife and I we opted not to have wine but instead she had a Lemon Mint Soda and I had a Strawberry & Thyme Soda. Both were delicious, cooling and thirst quenching. We were there for lunch and both decided on Lamb Burgers. The dishes were quickly prepared and were outstanding in terms of taste and quality, and together with fries constituted a very filling meal. We were too full for dessert so just hap a couple of coffees whilst enjoying the ambience and chilled out atmosphere. There was no pressure for us to leave after our meal as the emphasis was on enjoyment of both food and place. In terms of decor it was most attractive and infused with the slightly refined atmosphere of an elegant and bygone European age Clientele mostly appeared to be smart and well heeled local New Yorkers rather than tourists and this only added to its appeal. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

A Great Restaurant Near Washington Square Park

By AugustoV01 |

I would have never thought that there would be such a great restaurant near Washington Square Park but here it is. This place is a small place on the corner of East 9th Street and 5th Avenue. Everything from the soup, appetizer and entrées were all delicious so much so that we could only split a dessert. All were delicious. The Chicken Special and Bass special were both amazing. The wine was also delicious. We had a great dinner. I would definitely recommend. If you are ever in the area definitely take a chance with Claudette.

Mixed service and ok quality

By Will H |

Arrived for 7:45 reservations, sat 20 min late with empty tables available. While waiting at the bar, the bar tender didn't acknowledge us until we were about to be seated. Server took our orders after a long wait (and no water). Food came out quickly, and was good. Though bouillabaisse use to come out with pastry top, which I miss. Everyone was very nice and apologetic about the timing, but a disappointing experience.

Outstanding Summer Dining

By WaterGirl55 |

My family invited me to join them for a late supper at Claudette's. The restaurant is very appealing and quaint. We were greeting very jovially and escorted to our lovely table. Our server was very friendly and helpful with entree and wine choices. It is such a lovely restaurant in which to relax and enjoy a quiet meal. Our food was deliciously prepared, and we enjoyed a lovely Rose. I can't wait to return when I next visit NYC. I highly recommend to anyone who would like an exceptional dining experience among family and a friendly welcome at Claudette's!

Delicious food, great service and loved the decor

By Annb98 |

Claudette is a lovely spot with great decor. The owners have worked to create a comfortable atmosphere. The entire staff is very professional. Our waiter was very helpful and made sure to keep us updated on when food was coming, refilled our drinks and very personable. We had a mid-morning breakfast. I was expecting the croissants to be a bit more flaky, but the chocolate croissant was delicious.

Really lovely restaurant

By jsrose325 |

The food, service, and atmosphere were all top-notch. The hummus with black truffles is to die for. A great find.

Always Delicious!

By JWHodes |

I've been here maybe six times. Today my son & I stopped by for a bite before he caught a train out of town. It was around 5 pm, so quite early for dinner, but they had appetizers available at this time. We enjoyed chicken liver mousse on grilled toast, grilled shiitake mushroom with a delicious hummus, sweet potato "falafel", lamb kefta and creamy burrata with roasted tomatoes. We asked for a little piece of bread, maybe pita...and they brought out a fresh, piping hot pita--so yummy! And just maybe he had a cocktail and I a glass of wine. ;) It was all delicious! Have never been disappointed here.

Lovely evening

By Robbert L |

Lovely evening. We had a nice table outside. Friendly staff. Steak tartare, boullabaisse, lobster, Claudette burger, all tasted well. Agreeable atmosphere.

Flamingo private dining

By oscardogBirminghamUk |

As a party of 10 we wanted a great meal and be able to chat and have fun not interrupting an intimate restaurant like this, the flamingo room, via the kitchen which was an excellent insight was just perfect, small bar area with flamingo decor, and rustic south of France feel. We ordered A wide variety of food from the menu and asked for it to just keep coming, and all was excellent and met a wide range of palletes, my fish was beautifully cooked. Would recommend if you have a function, large happy group of diners intimate wedding etc.

Birthday brunch

By Michael A |

Step inside and leave New York behind. I don't know if "upscale rustic" is a style of interior decor, but if it is, this is the place. Relaxed atmosphere indoors, and sidewalk seating is available. Prix Fixe three course brunch menu. Everything was extraordinary. Friendly service.

Exceeded expectations

By MABM917 |

Great food in a quietly elegant spot. Farm fresh eats and refreshingly not hip-ly decorated. A nice addition to my hood!

Simply the best

By JJK13 |

Claudette is my favorite restaurant. Period. We live in the neighborhood and jokingly and lovingly refer to it as “our cafeteria”. I’ve been each of the last two weeks. I also hosted a birthday party at Claudette in the private downstairs dining room (which you access via the kitchen…how cool). An outstanding French bistro with a relaxed vibe. The food is always delicious and consistent. The ambience is beautiful and improves as the quaint outdoor dining space opens. The service is also excellent. My favorite dishes are the lamb Kafka and Branzino though the Sasso chicken and Burger are also great. The house wines are French of course and quite nice. Arguably the best part of all is that, even during these inflationary times, the prices have remained reasonable. I expect I’ve been there a dozen times in the last year or perhaps more. The best.

Nice atmosphere; good food

By Elle H |

We walked past this one earlier in the day and through it might be worth a try. We were so glad we came back that night. The food was very good; the portion sizes perfect; the service pleasant (a tad slow getting the food out but then we were a walk-in and it was a busy night) and the prices reasonable.

Best Meal

By antonella b |

Wonderful experience, great atmosphere, fantastic food and very good service! Highly recommend the Lamb Shank in tangine, a touch of Moracco amazing meal!! was not sure what to expect when my husband said he booked a Claudette i thought it was going to be very French and creamy meals but the menue was great and so were the specials. I'll be back nest time I go to New York for sure. (you need reservations)

One of our favourite place

By The curious guy |

We stopped there for lunch and we enjoyed it quite a lot. The french atmosphere is cosy. The staff was very nice and helpful. We took the lamb burger which was really good even if the meat was a bit over cooked. The deserts were also very tasty. A good address to keep in mind.

Laid back pretty venue. Super relaxed and excellent service.

By Travelqueen R |

Josh the bar tender was super attentive in a relaxed laid back way. Oysters superb. Small but super super tasty. Fully recommend. We stopped for a quick break en route shopping. Would recommend for a snack and drink or full meal. Excellent. Thanks Josh!

Traditionally prepared French cuisine with excellent service

By PeripatetiPat |

I have a food allergy. the waiter was extra attentive and even texted the exec chef to make sure what I had ordered - the foie gras - was not marinated in something that would give me problems. At the height of the dinner rush - 9p, it was a bit noisy - and as we settled in the place started to clear out and became quieter. We were celebrating our birthdays and the waiter brought out an extra treat with candles - a very nice touch. It was a good find - we'll go again.

If you can get a reservation, go there

By skiNebraska |

Charming, a bit noisy in a nice way. We could talk easily. Varied menu from lamb to seafood stew to burnt egg plant pasta. Great wine selection. Exceptional service with good timing. They did serve cold blue cheese and port. Wait until it warms up, it's worth the wait

Adorable and elegant little French restaurant!

By Sophia M |

Loved this little French restaurant! So elegant, so quaint. The food was absolutely delicious and I loved the unique sauces. Just beautiful and delicious! A must!

Total waste of time

By GG08 |

We booked a table for dinner at 20:45. When we got there at 20:50, they initially told us that they didn’t have the reservation in their system. Once we shown them the confirmation email, they “suddenly” found it on their computer, but told us that as we were 5 minutes late, the kitchen was already closed. There were a bunch of tables that had already been served and the restaurant was otherwise quite empty. Therefore, I suspect they either simply forgot about our reservation and didn’t want to reopen the kitchen, or couldn’t be bothered keeping it open for only one table. This is beyond bad and I have never seen such terrible service in Manhattan. Do yourself a favour and bring your money somewhere else. These guys don’t deserve it.

Elegant dining

By Micheal J |

Claudette is a French (Provencal) restaurant with north African influences, which is a very good marriage. The room is elegant and not too loud, and the menu interesting. As I later discovered, it belongs in a small group with Rosemary, where we also ate. My friend preferred Claudette, I preferred Rosemary, but both are well worth exploring. The local oysters were good, the Sasso chicken flavoursome and with generous portions, and the Ile Flottante a perfect example of its kind. We nearly ordered a third to share, but fought back the temptation. I'd recommend it.

Charming Victorian parlor ambience

By Capybara22 |

Had dinner here as part of Restaurant Week. Although the salad and eggplant soup appetizers were average, I was pleased that a French restaurant had options for vegetarians, and the pesto pasta entrée was a revelation. The pasta shells were perfectly al dente, and the creamy pesto sauce was incredibly flavorful - I detected good amounts of butter and salt along with the basil. Absolutely loved it, and hope to eat it again in the near future.

self-servicish pre-cooked food at restaurant price

By Gian Marco L |

We ordered and in 5 minutes we had two main courses, a salmon-based dish and a vegetable couscous, plus french fries to share, water to drink. The salmon was nothing special, ordinary prepared, whereas the couscous was terribly spicy, as well as the fries, overcooked quite burnt, in awful spicy powder. We paid 74 dollars for that. Worst experience ever in Manhattan, in about 15 years of yearly visits.

Steps from the Village, a world away

By ISyzigi |

I was able to taste a wide variety of dishes due to special circumstances, and I found the cuisine, atmosphere and service added up to an excellent dining experience. If you are looking for a place steps from the Washington Square Arch but a world away from the scruffiness of the Village, this could be a good choice. Our group arranged a meal that brought 3 first courses, 3 mains, and 2 desserts to the table to be passed to all among us. I particularly liked the orange citrus salad, perfectly balanced between sweet tanginess and refined saltiness. The kitchen offered with its compliments two additional starters, one of which was a lovely creamy burrata with cubes of roasted squash seasoned with a hint of Tunisian influence. Of the mains, the best was the roasted salmon, with its crispy outside, tender inside, and complete lack of fishy or fatty taste. The pomegranate seeds added a zap of clarity to its meaty density. I found the accompanying cauliflower to be overspiced. The Sasso chicken was quite good. The lovely Madeleines, baked "a la minute", truly arrived warm to the table. Each was a complete dessert in itself, a light cloud of lemony wonder, especially with a dab of rich brown butter for each bite. I enjoyed the cozy, bistro-like atmosphere, with its quirky wall of objets. The tables are a bit crowded together, which made little difference at the beginning of our early dining hour, but as the evening progressed, the proximity and noise of other parties did not lend itself to entirely serene dining. The service was excellent, not in the sense of being super-fast, but instead well-paced for savoring the food and digesting well. The hovering and pouring of water every few minutes were the only annoyances. All in all, a wonderful place.

The Tagine!

By kayak41952 |

We visited for a birthday dinner but hadn't made reservations. Staff accommodated us quickly and we had a delightful dinner. The food was excellent with a Moroccan flair. Very nice wine list and wonderful desserts. It has the feel of an older Parisian restaurant. It wasn't overly expensive and staff were fabulous.

Rude and unkind hostess

By slmd7 |

I have dined at Claudette a few months ago and thought it was lovely. Yesterday I arrived 10 minutes early for a 5:30 pre-theater reservation for 3 people. The restaurant was empty. The hostess refused to seat me saying "We don't start serving dinner for 10 minutes." I told her I had recent surgery and needed to sit down. She said I was welcome to sit at the bar. I said I could not sit on a stool, I needed a chair with a back (which every single chair in the restaurant had). She walked away and took the full ten minutes to seat me at a 2-top where she added a chair and then led me to the tiny table. I knew the three of us would be very cramped. When the waiter came I asked him if I could move to a bigger table. He said yes. The hostess then approached me at the now appropriate size table. She said I could not sit there because the restaurant was fully booked. The restaurant was still empty. I told her I was leaving and walked out. I dine out frequently. I have not experience such a rude and unkind hostess anywhere in Manhattan or Brooklyn. She wins the rude-and-unkind-hostess reward. I hope her manager sees this review.

Outstanding

Lovely food. Exceptional service. We ordered 9 dishes for the table. Each and every one tasted amazing. We brought our twins (3yrs). Make a reservation.

Reliable consistent haunt

I frequent this restaurant as it is very near my office. I've always had good service and the selections are tasty and adequate. Most of the bartenders are pleasant and helpful.

Poor service, uninspiring food

By Victor L |

Visited this restaurant one of the restaurants on my credit card dining credit list. I booked online which was straightforward. It is located in Greenwich Village which is a nice area and easy to get to. As I was travelling on my own, my seat was in the bar area. I was disappointed by the service after a while in fact I was thinking of leaving. I was thinking a server would be taking my order but it was the barman. There is one barman making all the drinks for the whole restaurant as well as serving customers at the bar. There were literally non-stop tickets coming out of the machine and servers practically queuing up waiting to collect drinks from him. I really don’t envy his situation. Eventually, I managed to flag him down after 15 minutes to get a drink and as there was no sign anyone was going to take my order, I again tried to flag the barman down after 40 minutes. It goes without saying no one during that whole time approached me. I had the crispy artichokes for a starter, but it wasn’t really a good start, I am not sure where it is coming from whether it was over-seasoned or it was from the aioli but the whole dish was quite salty. It made me quite thirsty afterwards. I then had one of the ‘signature dishes’ on the menu the Claudette burger which arrived over half an hour later. As you can see in the picture I have attached with the post, the presentation is bordering on boring and uninspiring. The burger was lukewarm and the chips were soft and lukewarm as well. I want to make it totally clear I have no affliction with any particular company related to food or have been asked or paid to promote anyone, all reviews are my own personal experience, if you compare the burger to another review I made at the same NYC trip on Tripadvisor you can see from that picture it is so much better in more ways than one. Overall, the whole experience was disappointing, with slow and almost non-existent service (not the fault of the barman, as he clearly has far too much to do just to serve the drinks and make the cocktails without having to service the customers at the bar), the food was not great. I wouldn’t really come back again. Whilst I was in NYC I had better burgers from street food burger vans which was cheaper.

Lovely dinner!

By Richard Yonge |

Great setting, busy. Had a street side table. Kudos to the staff. We had a family celebration dinner, booked, but no booking recorded when we arrived. Major PO. Saved by I think Vanessa, who dug in to save the night. Star. Take note of name of who is taking your reservation. Always.

Wonderful Dinner

Our group of 12 friends who travelled to New York for a girls weekend had a fantastic dinner at Claudette. We had a set menu with a wide variety of delicious courses (see attached). Our server Aziza was so attentive and friendly. I loved the decor as well!

French-ish restaurant

By TinaHH123 |

The reservation website is easy to use & I like that they follow up with a reminder of your booking. There is also a full menu PDF online with prices so you know what to expect. The restaurant is nicely decorated and has a nice atmosphere… music was weird, Madonna’s holiday was on one min and then some sort of thrash metal…all quiet & in the background but still weird. The service was good. The martinis are superb…. Ordered the octopus stater to share & it was totally delicious, perfectly cooked with nice charring from grill, was very excited for mains but they were a bit of a let down. I had the Bouillabaisse, which is a fish stew … this wasn’t… it came in a giant casserole dish with more like a marinara sauce in the bottom with various bits of seafood & fish placed on top. The seafood was cooked nicely but on cold wet night, a hearty fish stew is what I wanted not a plate of seafood. The other main was gnocchi, which tasted good but was at best the size of a starter or childs meal. I’m from the UK so not used to USA generous portions but this was small compared to anything in the UK let alone the US. Good job we ordered fries, which were very good. Didn’t have dessert as the options were very disappointing, on offer 2 cakes (cake is not desert it something you have with tea) and a posset…. No cheese option, not sure you can be a French restaurant without cheese or crème brûlée. So it was definitely a tale of 2 halves… i will say the burgers that came out looked great and the shanks could feed two, so if you like meat go for those. Spent $200 on 2 martinis, 2 bears, 1 starter, 2 mains & 18%tip.

Such a little gem!

This is the loveliest little restaurant and such a treat to find something like this in NYC where everything is so big and bold. Easy and elegant yet casual!

Charm galore!

By BonsVoyagesNow |

We made brunch reservations for our party of 6 gals to celebrate our milestone birthday. What a charming restaurant, and excellent service! The decor is very French with hits of north African motifs. Just lovely for ambience. The perfect venue for a leisurely Saturday morning brunch. Having traveled twice to France in the past, I found the atmosphere here very authentic, and transported me back to times spent in southern France. We had a very attentive and patient server, and when we expressed some disappointment with the hake sandwiches, we were treated to complimentary desserts. Would definitely return on my next visit to NYC! Tres sympa:-)

Awesome Eggs Benedict

Enjoyed this place thoroughly. Eggs Benedict was delicious and interesting, as was everything we ordered. Clean and happy ambience, great views through the windows.

Thanksgiving Dinner Was Great----But I Have A Lot To Say!

By jarona |

Due to the fact that one of my sons had to work on the crew for the hosts of the Thanksgiving Parade, we decided to drive into the City and have our Thanksgiving dinner in a restaurant. The chosen restaurant was Claudette because the restaurant had other offerings besides turkey (Oh--are my Frenchman and I the only ones who cannot stand turkey?). In addition, it would be a welcome change from dealing with cooking and cleanup. We were fortunate enough to get a parking space directly across the restaurant and the fact it's in a residential part of the east village is nice. The restaurant's interior is intimate and charming. The maitre d and hostess couldn't have been more cordial or pleasant. The seats were comfortable and it was great to be sitting in front of the large window and getting to see the passersby. The place really is beautiful. The food--oh the food was fantastic. We started off with appetizers."lollipops" made of chicken liver, little puffs with truffle --all just amazing. For dinner those who had the turkey raved about it. Those of us who had the lamb were in heaven. Seriously. The lamb was the best lamb I've ever had at a restaurant. Moist and juicy. Tender as all get out. Flavorful and with a hint of moroccan spices--I could have had two plates of this. The desserts were great too. The tarte tartin was delicious and the pumpkin cheesecake was out of this world. It wasn't heavy or overly sweet. It was like a cloud and didn't taste all cinnamony and pumpkin-pie-ish! We also had a bottle of Cote d' Provence that went well with all the food we ordered. Here's where I get just a bit critical. The service. I really have serious issues when staff continues to fill my glass or any of my party's glasses every time someone takes a sip of their drink. Can't you just wait till we are finished with our glasses or just place a bottle of water on the table? I like my space! Granted, the servers were pleasant, but I just don't want someone at my table every three seconds--and it wasn't even our waitress! Secondly. The bill. Although the prixe fixe dinner price was $70.00 PP, with the bottle of wine and tax, the bill came to $495.00. We were a party of five. That's fine. We left a tip of $100.00. Which, I feel is incredibly fair--especially considering that our waitress did not do most of the serving. But--she seemed slightly put off with the tip. I don't know. I'm still confused about that. Despite my slight "issues", I would go back. The food was that good. Thank you for reading and I hope this helped in some small way.

A gem

This has become my favorite place in NYC. Cozy, warm, lovely music and atmosphere, adorable staff and delicious flavours. We have been here twice, both times we were in a hurry and they made everything to make us comfortable. The owner is very kind. All staff is attentive. Gerard was precious. The squid is one of the best things I have ever tried in a life of travels all around the world. We Will definitely be back.

Delicious food, ample portions, good service

By Mark S |

Had a great meal here Friday night. Food is delicious, room is warm & comfortable, no unpleasant noise levels making it difficult to hear your neighbor: all in all a delightful night out.

Cozy informal place

By telvestad |

Ended up here as a coincident. But it was a nice surplice. Really nice staff taking the time at the table explaining the menu and making us feel welcome. Really cozy interior and atmosphere, probably a lot of people use this place for date nights. Food was ok.

Great place on 5th Avenue, near Washington Square

By cherylbrooklyn |

4 of us went for dinner on a weeknight. We were given what the hostess described as a quiet table, which was near the back of the bar. The noise level increased as the evening progressed, but wasn't too loud. Service was friendly and attentive. We had oysters, hummus with truffles, a salad, then shared the whole fish and the chicken. All the food was delicious! Very well prepared. Our request for more pita was readily fulfilled. The wine selection for by the glass was very good.

A Favorite "Hangout"

By YouCanCallMeFussyBut |

I go to Claudette a few times every month and have enjoyed it every time. The décor. service and the FOOD never disappoints. Its elegant / casual and I'm very lucky to have it as my neighbor. Great bar scene.

Nope

By Ealgian |

Came for breakfast. The breads / pastries were good as was the yogurt with fresh fruit and granola. However the scrambled eggs were not good at all. The smoked salmon and salmon roe were too salty to be paired with the runny eggs. The sauce had no flavor to help balance out the salt of the fish. The smoked salmon was also not of a good quality (not to be mean but I'm from the Pacific NW and I know my smoked salmon pretty well). There are much better places to get brunch or breakfast in NY for similar prices. Balthazar's, Lafayette, etc.

Excellence in an unpretentious way for a fabulous dining experience

By HenryNYC |

We had a fabulous experience in Claudette. The setting is just great with its near Washington Square location, sidewalk seating but yet not much of noise from the street, a modest bar that serves wonderful and unique cocktails, and very interesting menu selection and tasting foods. Charming typically is given to those restaurant in tucked away corners but this is right near the heart of the Village. It is vibrant but not noisy, what a treat! Go to this place, just relax, and be prepared to have a good meal and conversation.

Ok, but can't say more

By J H |

We met another couple here for birthday dinners. The greeting was certainly pleasant and the table service was attentive, but ultimately the restaurant only gets an average because that's what the food was. I ordered the Tuna Crudo as an appetizer. It was flavorful and full of texture. If I'd stopped there, the review would be higher. My wife had the mixed green salad, which was ordinary. Where the food failed was the Baked Branzino. This happens to be an item someone in my family orders nearly every time it shows up on the menu. It was quite a disappointment. In taste, shape and texture it seemed like anything but fresh and more closely resembled factory frozen fillets from the supermarket.

Outstanding Dining Option in Greenwich Neighborhood!!

By Crawford99975 |

We noticed the construction and opening of this restaurant in Greenwich Village and have been anxious to try it for some time. Dinner with 5 of us in late September was worth the wait and I can't begin to tell you how happy we were with the ambiance, service, wine list, menu and food quality. We split the octopus and heirloom salad and ordered 2 cod, 1 fettucine, 1 tagine and 1 shrimp with a side, desserts, wine and coffee. Everything was delicious, nicely presented, cooked to perfection and timed perfectly. It was a wonderful dinner! Alanna was our server and she was outstanding. Everyone loved the decor and there is also a small bar which is perfect or drinks, cocktails and appetizers. We can't wait to go back!

Food, yes! Service, meh.

By hyabady |

I like the place. I do. It's a block from where I live, and it's a block from where I live! Convenience is key for me. Proximity. And the food is very good with its Greek/Middle Eastern twang. I am, in fact, eating there this minute. I had a bruchette of salt cod--delish, and lamb kebab--OK with a yogurt base and a small, limp salad. The service is not the best--they could really use a second person behind the bar to deal with both bar patron drinks and the rest of the restaurant drinks. I asked for an espresso and also a Cointreau, in a snifter, and the bartender mixed them up together in what turned out to be a warm dark brown, delight. In a snifter! My husband had an omelet and very decent crispy fries. But...where is the dessert already? Very good. Quite slow. Did I mention it's a 30-second walk from my apartment? H

Fabulous meal, great service, memorable experience

By Nic N |

My wife and I had dinner here tonight and it was a truly wonderful experience. The bouillabaisse was amazing and so tasty with a large variety of seafood. The steak was pretty good and the brussel sprouts were better than my own (and I make delicious brussel sprouts). Both waiters that served us were very knowledgeable about menu items and helpful with food suggestions. Tonight they had a chocolate mousse that was not on the menu and it was unbelievably nice. The evening was not cheap but it was just an all round great experience.

Impressive little restaurant.

Popped in for a coffee and stayed for lunch! Beautiful venue, great atmosphere. Delicious food and friendly service. Recommend the burger and the eggs Benedict.

Perfect Sunday Brunch

My friendly server brought me everything I needed, apparently effortlessly, despite the many customers who arrived with me at opening time. The food was both beautiful to look at and delicious to devour. I highly recommend the French toast.

Very good food. Excellent service. Very cozy atmosphere. A 10! Menu is French but Mediterranean style ... If you are in the area come here. If you are around I suggest to go.

good food and portions, very cozy and comfortable space, very rough waitress made the patrons feel bad for not knowing French wines.

Fun for brunch celebration

By gothamcitymom |

We had a celebratory brunch here for 10 people. Food was great although some basic items, (like bacon) on menu were unavailable which I found odd for a brunch menu. Environment is very pretty and exudes warmth. I would definitely come here again.

Brunch

While visiting our daughter at NYU last weekend we enjoyed a great brunch at Claudette's. Our food and service was excellent. I love the decor. We wanted to have dinner there the night before. However reservations are a must on Saturday night. Definite do over!!

Intimate atmosphere

Service not rushed considering one in our party was late arriving.Since we were family we tasted each other's selections. All wonderful:grilled octopus, steak tartare, tangible of chicken,skate....all very good!

Breakfast Done Right

By JBentraveler |

If you want a breakfast in Paris while staying in NYC, you must visit Claudette. The food is fantastic! The ambience is definitely Paris and the service great. We started with the creamy burrata which was excellent. Then we had the wild mushroom omelette, lamb burger with fries, and two Shakshoukas. These were all cooked uniquely with their own spin. The Shakshoukas were the best choices and very tasty. No matter you order, I don't think you can go wrong.

A Nice Change

By DrWJW |

Claudette is a Provençal restaurant in the heart of Greenwich Village. I met a friend here for lunch (who I hadn't seen for three years) before he caught his flight out of the city. We both did the fix-priced lunch ($25). The soup was wonderful, the entrees delicious and filling, and the desserts outstanding. The total bill came to over $100...we both had a glass of Pinot Noit ($15/glass); and the coffee added yet additional charges. We had a pleasant meal. We both agreed that we would return.

A Bit Underwhelming

By Johnathan E |

The experience started out right with attentive service but faded as the evening went on. I was dining alone and the restaurant was not full, particularly the section I was in. I did enjoy the appetizers I had but the chopped salad was awful. The wait staff started out attentive but by the end I had to ask someone else for my bill because I'd been waiting 20 minutes for my server to bring me the bill so I could make a theatre show.

Excellent fair in a lovely setting

By 1francophile |

Had a business lunch at this fine establishment and was impressed with the outstanding service and menu selections. Due to being pressed from time, we didn't experience the many interesting appetizers, starters or desserts, but were all thrilled with our main course selections. My Rabbit Cavatelli was delicious, with a rabbit ragu, tender pasta, onion and sparsely tarragon coulis, Other standouts were the Tuna Nicoise, with chunks of rare seared Tuna, pefectly cooked. The wine chosen, Domaine Fournier Grand Cuvee Pouilly Fume was a perfect compliment to our wonderful meal. It was full, rich with hints of citrus and honey with perfect balance and length. Very Highly Receommened!

French Moroccan Brunch - Ooh-la-la

Cozy restaurant with a really chill vibe. We were able to make reservations for Sunday brunch (appreciated!), and we were not rushed at all as we sat and visited with our friends. Spicy without warning and Pricy...and pot de creme...wait...what?

By Chris S |

A GREAT location and a super happy hour there are some great things (lamb sticks and the grilled cauliflower — hold the tomato paste) and OYSTERS!!!! Service can go from awesome to ooops but my biggest warning about this wonderful place is there is no warning about the over abundance of spicy heat on the food. I love French and I understand not all French is butter and cream but for the unsuspecting consumer, the wait staff should warn the customer. We had warnings but not consistent ones. My biggest disappointment is the pot de creme which was not a pot. It was a dish. The dessert was just out of the fridge without fresh cream. The cream was mustard colored and gross. Not fresh. It was flavored but not what I want on my pot de creme. The chocolate was deep but the texture was just WRONG. huge disappointment. Good wine selection and a very nice service atmosphere. Be prepared to spend bucks.

Excellent!!

By CindyLGGP |

Introduced by a friend and it's surprisingly good, no matter food or services are excellent!! The ambience is cozy although it's not as small as restaurants in France, you can enjoy a taste of French! Will definitely go back!!

Chopped Liver Lovers Pay Attention

By Harvey M |

This two year old restaurant is in the former space of the Cru Restaurant. My meal started off with a delicious Chopped Liver Mousse ($10), presented in a small jar and served with delicious, warm pita bread. My main course was the Chicken Tagine ($28) with Couscous. Most of the chicken was dry, and had minimal flavor, while the Couscous was very tasty. I would not recommend it or order it again.

Unmet Expectations

By Robert D |

On a recent visit to Manhattan I hosted a dinner party for my adult children at Claudette. The restaurant was recommended by my daughter who has resided and worked in the City for 24 years (and is a superb cook in her own right!). The menu, food, wine and service were excellent as expected with one exception: the roast chicken. The seasoning was perfect, but unfortunately, as with most restaurants, the chicken was overcooked and dry. I have stopped ordering roast chicken out because it rarely comes moist and juicy. My wife has scolded me on numerous occasions when I ask the waiter to ask the cook not "to overcook the chicken". In an effort to appease my wife, I have even resorted to the positive signal of: "most restaurants overcook the chicken, but I understand you do not". After being profusely assured that the chef never over cooks the chicken, I am invariably disappointed 90% of the time. I am open to suggestions, because it is one of my favorite entrees!

Great Meal!

By brmusicman |

We had a reservation on a busy Friday night and were pleased to be seated right at our reservation time. The first table was so wobbly that we asked to be moved; the staff politely accommodated. Our initial server was excellent: fun, attentive, happy to answer questions. His shift ended about 3/4 of the way through our meal; the staff who replaced him fell behind in attentiveness, which made the meal end on a less-ideal note. However, it was still a great experience overall! The atmosphere is great; it's a relatively small space with cozy decor and the tables are close together in that fun NYC kind of way. The menu is really interesting; it mixes traditional French with North African influences. Our appetizers included some delicious Moroccan carrots with lovely spice, roasted cauliflower with a tasty tomato jam, and a bibb salad that had great texture due to bread crumbs. The truffle hummus lacked truffle flavor. The grilled haloumi, though, was a superstar! We shared the lamb tagine as an entree; it was excellent, with a fall-off-the-bone lamb shank and really flavorful vegetables. Wonderful wine list, too. Overall, lovely experience; I would definitely return and recommend!

Great food and ambiance!

By Mieko W |

This is a cute little place with great ambiance. Food is delicious and the service is excellent. The only thing I didn't like was the crust from the tart aux fruits that I had, it was rock hard! the flavor was perfect but I had to use a knife to cut it. Great place to come with 2 or 3 friends but it may be too loud if you come here on a date.

Excellent French Fare!

By LisaPotts |

Cozy little French restaurant that serves classic countryside French cuisine. Good service and food!

A riot of tastes

By James M |

Provençal food done in North African spices makes for a fantastic taste experience. Once you get over the music (some gutsy blues tracks were playing) in what is a stylish Gallic setting, then just the enjoy ingenious twists on regular dishes, like the harissa flavoured fries. Bouillabaisse, lamb leg, and cucumber gazpacho were all brilliant.

Brunch on Fifth Avenue in NYC

By garomano |

Very nice place, and well frequented, after all you are on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan! I went there for Saturday brunch to end my holiday in perfect New York style. I had pumpkin and honey soup and truffle hummus, both good. Drink a draft beer. Prices even below the New York average.

Lovely dinner, intimate setting

By hollyberry57 |

We came here for a special dinner and were not disappointed. Intimate place, very French, but not pretentious. Solid menu and service; great wine list. My duck entree was fantastic. Very happy with our choice of Claudette.

Great Mediterranean French Experience!

By AmyLa992 |

Went for dinner with girlfriends, small, quaint bar area, wait staff so helpful and friendly, great options to share - chicken with couscous, fish options, and desserts. Loved the flavors and the we quiet yet energetic restaurant atmosphere, will definitely be back!

A Delightful Bistro.

By Londoner056 |

This is a delightful Bistro with great food and wonderful service. It just so happened to be a Friday so for me it was 'Fish day' and I noticed that they had Cod 'n Chips on the menu so that is what I ordered, my friend ordered the Chicken Tagine which was delicious. My cod was succulent BUT where were my chips? Of course, 'chips' are crisps over there--how silly of me to forget but I got little crisps with my fish at least! Rick the Maitre D'e was fabulous with a great sense of humour and so very helpful. We realy enjoyed our evening there and it is very good value for money and has a great ambience. Give it a try as you will not be disappointed.

Delicious fusion of French and Morrocan flavours. Good service, buzzy lively ambiance and delightful staff.

Lovely place and very good food

By PeterBrink |

Having skipped lunch, we arrived at 5:30 to a warm welcome and perfect seat in the right-angle love seat in which one can talk easily and view the room. My chicken tagine was excellent, and Susan was most happy with her rabbit Coustellet. The room filled 3/4s, but the noise level worked okay, with a normal space around tables. My only small surprise was that the bread seemed a bit old, which the waiter denied, but brought us instead a lovely warm pita bread. My gin-and-tonic was very good, but quite pricey at $16. All-in-all very nice, and we'll return.

Wonderful French "family" restaurant

By TrojanSkyCop1 |

I put the word "family" in quotation marks because my eldest niece Liz happens to work here. :-) What's more, the occasion was a mini-family reunion, as I was there with my maternal half-sister (whom I hadn't seen in 18 years), my sister-in-law, and my second-old nephew (the two of whom, along with niece Liz, I hadn't seen in 13 years). Of course, one might think this review a tad bit biased due to the family connection, but rest assured I'd still give the place a 5-star review even if it weren't for such a connection. The décor and ambience were pleasing, Philip the maître d' greeted my party like we were VIPs, Darryl (sp?) was a friendly and efficient waiter, and both the appetizer (Charred Octopus) and main course (Rabbit Cavatelli) were excellent. Moreover, when the mini-cherry blossom tree by our table nearly fell onto my SIL and got some water in her purse, the staff was extremely apologetic (we actually got a good laugh out of it, figured it added a bit of excitement to the evening) and hooked us up with some delicious complimentary desserts (nougat glace if I'm not mistaken) for our troubles. Tres bien, merci beaucoup!

Highly recomended

Lovely Atmosphere, Attentive Service

By TrackMomof3 |

My family and I enjoyed brunch at Claudette during a recent visit to the city. Every one of our meals were fabulous. We enjoyed oysters, an amazing French toast piled high with beautiful fresh fruit, Eggs Benedict, Camembert eggs with the perfect amount of fresh herbs to enhance the flavor and more! Yum. We were all sharing bites everyone loved their dishes so much. The service was wonderful. Atmosphere was lovely. I would definitely go back.

Delightful for lunch

By celebrationtiger |

Eat outside or inside.. The Croque Monsieur was delicious, The staff was attentive. The salad greens were fresh and crisp. The ambiance was lovely and had a French flare. They seem to have very nice 2 course lunch specials for $28.00 and wine for $8.00 if you order the special. Otherwise the wines can be a bit pricey.

Lovely Dinner--Great Place for a Date

By EVArcht |

Having been to Claudette's sister restaurant "Bobo" several times, we thought we would give this restaurant a try. The food, service and atmosphere were all very good. However, what I remember the most is that Claudette, although crowded, was very quiet. My wife and I were actually able to have a nice conversation and not have to scream at the top of our lungs over thumping music or cackling voices. It's very nice (and rare) to find a small restaurant that is quaint, has delicious food served impeccably and has acoustics conducive to a conversation. This is a great place for a romantic dinner, for a business dinner or even if you are dining solo. And FYI, I got the bouillabaisse for my entree...it was wonderful. Reminded me of time spent in the South of France.

A touch of Provence in NYC

By Pamela H |

Very good food in a friendly, comfortable atmosphere. Almost all wines are French. Excellent pommes frites, classic. Good pastas. The tagliatelle was tasty with a bit of a chile burn. Roast chicken had nice crispy skin and delicious croutons roasted and flavored with the pan juices. Inside dining room is noisy so we ate outside. Efficient, friendly wait staff.

Unfortunately this was our last night this trip in NYC. If it had been our first we would have come twice more this trip

By GeorgeDubiecki |

From the moment we walked in and were greeted by Bella and Logan I knew we were in for a treat. They were really gracious and friendly, professional and helpful. We chose a different table away from the open door without any hassle. Miranda our server, from Missouri could not have been nicer. She attended to all our needs, thinking ahead. Ashley the Sommeliere was great. She listened to my tastes in wine and their combination with the food that we ordered. She brought me a taste of one wine by the glass. We ultimately selected a different but great wine for the food. The bus boys were cordial and they were very professional. I met the manager, Amber, who was very interested in how things were going. Genuinely so. I complimented Amber as manager, for how nice her team from one end to the other were. I had expressed to Miranda how much I was enjoying each dish. So she came and asked if I would like to meet the chef. I was very happy to meet Edwin Rivera. He is very talented and modest too. As busy as he was on Saturday, he came out to say hello. I told him that he made a great selection of oysters. But the dish that I really loved was the bouillabaisse which was perfectly balanced in flavors. It had sea bass, mussels, prawns, clams and lobster in a tomato broth. None of it was overcooked as often happens. It was absolutely delicious. My wife loved the hamburger. We shared her french fry’s which were done just right. We had a creme brûlée for desert which was as good as I have ever had. I am including a video of Miranda describing how it was prepared. Edwin’s team in the kitchen is fabulous. Unfortunately in many restaurants the kitchen staff is forgotten when it comes to sharing in the tips. I went down to the kitchen after dinner to say goodbye and thank Edwin and I gave them a bunch of 2 dollar bills to share. I hope that this is taken as an inspiration for others to do the same. This is an absolute must visit in NYC. Thank you everyone!!! I cannot say enough about how great this meal and the service and the kitchen staff are.

Really Very Good

By RML1 |

A fine combination of Morrocan/French cuisine (Morrocco was a former French colony) tastefully prepared and presented. Outstanding service as well. And, considering its 5th Avenue location the prices are not unreasoable at all. Worth a special trip

Great and romantic place.

Excellent neighborhood place to celebrate our 9yr anniversary. This place did not disappoint, it works for any occasion and food is excellent. Great service and great wine round this place in to an easy 5star. It’s French with a Morrocan flavor, food is very tasty and the menu offers flavors for many tastes. We would definitely visit again. I included a pic of the lamb tagine which was full of flavor and cooked very well.

Great Service, Very Good Food

By 302monikaw |

I dropped into Claudette on an early evening, without a reservation. The host was extremely friendly - not the usual arrogant if you dare to walk in without a reservation- and I was seated at the bar in a beautiful spot right away. The place was packed. The service nevertheless super attentive and the food was top notch. Very reasonably priced for NYC too. Beautiful place with wonderful staff. Highly recommend.

A little pricey for brunch but overall great food. The atmosphere was fairly loud and vibrant as you would expect a quaint brunch place to be on Sunday at 1pm. Service was great.

Intimate and memorable

By Goldie76 |

This is a special French restaurant in Greenwich Village. As a solo diner over two evenings, I enjoyed flawless service in a super cosy and intimate dining room. The first evening, I ordered the cauliflower starter and the rabbit cavatelli with a glass of rosé. On the second evening, I started with the chicken liver mousse, then the pasta pistou with a glass of the red burgundy. The pistou was especially delicious ~ the pesto was so smooth and perfectly seasoned. I am adding Claudette to my favorites list in the city!

We arrived at 6pm for an early supper before a concert and found the restaurant nearly empty, but we were glad to have a reservation as it soon filled up. delicious lunch

By SusanAlexis |

Popped in on the offchance for a last day lunch before heading off to the airport and wish we had stopped by sooner. Delicious fresh lunch. organic free range produce/chicken apparently. Everything tasted fresh and delicious and although supposedly french had a definite contemporary middle eastern twist in terms of spices (only thing not so keen on was the spice mix on the fries but that meant we didn't eat them which was a good thing actually)....my salad which was beetroot with horseradish cream and goats cheese was absolutely sublime. Would come back anytime.

What a gem

Our new favorite restaurant. First time there had incredible dinner there. Menu is versatile. Each dish was delicious and flavorful. Service and ambiance was perfect combination of cozy hip chic upbeat. Great vibe. Bravo yo the chef.

An okay lunch on restaurant week

By hippocrates38 |

Nice restaurant - good location (hope they make it, this area needs a decent place). Service good. Soup tasty but too salty. A fish meal of bronzino was excellent, but there was nothing with it. We had to ask for extra bread (Couldn;t they have added a vegetable?) Desserts luscious. One friend was served a dirty cup, sent it back to restaurant; that same cup was actually brought out again. That shouldn't happen.

A really quaint eatery in NYC

By Harris T |

Situated right at bottom of 5th Avenue near Washington Square Park, this place is a gem. The food is great with a really interesting mixture of French and Mediterranean flavors. The service was great and super friendly. The wine list is not large but really good (the Cab Franc I had was great!). It's not large but there are tables on 5th when the weather cooperates and if you have a group larger than 4, it is a challenge ( couples and 4's will have no issues).

Lovely and lively environment

By Frank M |

Country French interior is warm and inviting. My seasonal squash soup was delish and the King salmon flavorful. Service was a tad sporadic as it was crowded when I was seated and served. Overall a nice experience and recommended as a good pre-theatre dining option.

Glorious & Romantic escape in the city

By yvega |

If you want to run away to Marrakesh, sip good wine, and indulge in savory, deep flavors then Claudette is for you. Nestled in the gold coast of lower fifth avenue, the space beautifully decorated, you're warmly welcomed at the door by a smiling staff. The food is stellar, appetizers ranging in flavors and tastes to main courses that transport. Take yourself away on a little trip, Claudette is the place for weary and skeptical New Yorkers.

Provençal restaurant steps from Washington Square Park

By Harry T |

Claudette is an elegant Provençal restaurant steps from Washington Square Park. Claudette's cellar highlights the wines of Southern France, with a wide selection of Rose and Chateauneuf du Pape. The bar offers a list of unique aperitifs, cocktails The dining area has been set with bleached-wood tables and wicker-backed chairs, like in a Provençal café, and fitted with tall French windows, which on warm days are thrown open to the street. The room is elegant and not too loud, and the menu interesting Sasso Chicken Half chicken, juicy, healthy. with roasted veggies and amazing croutons Bouillabaise a dish full of delicious -mussels, shrimps, squid. Topped with veggies and tomato broth. Ile flottante vanilla crème anglaise, caramel and hazelnut praline.is perfection.

Lightfilled space, tasty food, friendly service

By missmickey |

We had relaxed weekend brunch at Claudette, delicious eggs benedict and a salad with orange and pine nuts that complimented it. The room is delightfully bright, with a French/Tunisian decor and tables spaced far enough apart to guarantee quiet conversation. Service was both prompt and casual, contributing to the laid-back feeling of the room. I look forward to a return visit for the Tunisian dishes.

Great restaurant in Manhattan

By Michele S. |

At the beginning of Fifth Avenue there is this charming place, not too large and with an outdoor seating area. The choice of menu is good, not only French cuisine where quality and service always prevail, always attentive and courteous. Clean and pleasant environment, well frequented, average prices.

A SUMMER FAVORITE

By Shannen H |

This was not my first time dining at Claudette. I dined in the winter and had a so/so experience. However, summertime at Claudette is amazing. I ordered the french toast (big and great for sharing), an eggplant dip, and sweet potato falafel,ALL DELICIOUS. It is a joy dine outdoors in the summer and people watch. Also excellent service this time around!

Meh

By MICHAEL ASHWORTH |

We had high hopes for Claudette - a French bistro on lower Fifth Avenue. Unfortunately in the end it just wasn't anything special. The cheese and chicken liver mousse was good as was the Bronzino main course. The rib eye however was fatty and unappetising. A side of beans was tasty. The wine list is exclusively French which will suit some of you. In summary it's a great location but just not good enough food to make me want to go again.

In town visiting my friend who lives in the Brevoort. We walked over to Claudette for lunch. This space has housed multiple restaurants over the years. It was our first time here. Lovely ambience. Our food was delicious....wonderful fresh ingredients. Service was a bit halting, but friendly. I am sure it is very popular with the neighborhood residents--it is a gem.

New York Atmosphere

Went with a girlfriend and had a lovely time. It was very crowded but for residents of the building (my friend lives there), you apparently get priority seating. She had a pasta dish, which looked delicious and I had drinks, as I had dinner plans afterward. Service was top-notch, despite how busy the place was and the fact that I was only having drinks, so our bill wasn't particularly large.

Great experience. Food was excellent. Manager Daniel Love did a great job and was very accommodating. Will be back. We had the Eggs Benedict and fries well done.

Nice food. Some poor service.

By Doug B |

We visited. Two couples. Nice greeting. Good food. Over priced wine. Service was fine to start. Food was great. Very nice. After we declined a second bottle of wine the waitress became very surly and curt. No offer of tea or coffee (or dessert) and delivered the bill without us asking for it. Would have scored 4 stars no problem if the attitude had been better. Surprised the proprietor/manager thinks this is an acceptable way to treat paying guests. Won't be back.

EARLY PERFORMANCE NY PUBLIC THEATER AND WALKED TO CLAUDETTE. PERFECT EVENING IN THE CITY

By RichardU777 |

Claudette was recommended by the Maitre'd at Le CouCou as an excellent neighborhood restaurant within walking distance of the NY Public Theater. And suggestion was right on. This small and delightful restaurant "downtown" NYC provides greats choices for dinner from small plates to full meals. All with a strong Middle Eastern/Provencal mix. You will find something for all no matter if you are a f carnivore or a vegan. On a busy Saturday evening had great service and each dish was perfectly prepared. And those who "eat with their eyes" will not be disappointed. Plus every dish we noticed coming from kitchen (as well as those of our nearest neighbors) looked great. Can highly recommend. If location is good do not miss .... or if you make a special trip you will not be disappointed.

The French countryside in New York city

By Harry T |

Ambiance Claudette has a very charming decor. I felt like I walked into a local restaurant located somewhere in the countryside of France . It is a nice dining ambiance. We started with three types of east coast oysters where were great Food Our very good Sasso Chicken and the grilled Branzino if you like fish this a must! Cocktails were wonderful. The wines buy glass are nice too. Now that the weather is warm there is outdoor seating while I enjoy sitting outside here the decor overrides that.

France by way of Morocco

By MarlaPilates |

From the moment we were greeted by Ted, our experienced and friendly server, the dinner was a big success. We started with the roasted romescu which was out of this world, cooked exactly to perfection with a very interesting spice flavor profile balanced out by the raisins with the crunchy almonds supplying opposing texture. Then my husband had the burger--a food he rarely eats and about which he is extremely picky. It was a 10 (or even more!) It came out exactly to his temperature preference, while the fries were light and crisp. My roasted brussel sprouts had a nice char. I appreciated the opportunity to hold the bacon. My salmon skewers melted in my mouth, with the heat of the spicy oil countered by the labneh sauce. To our delight, since it was my husband's birthday, the staff treated him to a decadent, melt-in-your mouth chocolate piece of heaven. Thank you, Claudette! We will be back!

I tried Claudette for the first time on a whim for a business lunch. Quaint, no frills location and decor. Friendly, professional staff. I ordered the mushroom risotto, which was on special. Great flavors. Classic French cuisine. Reasonably priced for the quality. Recommended if you're looking for a non-intimidating French spot in Greenwich Village.

Visited during a weekend girls trip to NYC. Relaxed atmosphere with great food. Didn’t seem touristy, which was nice. Will definitely return.

A lovely restaurant with great service

By PaulKent123 |

Attended a friends wedding with the meal in the Flamingo Room last week and it was a fantastic venue The staff were so friendly, and the food and drink were continually flowing all evening !! The room was small and away from the main restaurant so it was perfect for the occasion :)

Dropped in for a couple of drinks before dinner. Place looks very nice, neatly decorated, clean. I didn’t eat but by the look food seemed very good. I sat at the bar and service was perfect.

Loved the Octopus!

By krystinas1219 |

This is a super cute, small French restaurant. The décor is lovely, staff was very friendly and attentive. We went for restaurant week and we're thoroughly impressed. We both ordered the charred baby octopus, which was phenomenal! The salmon was cooked excellent, and the bed of corn it was placed on was the best corn I have ever tasted! Must have been the butter they used to cook it. I would recommend this for a nice evening out. Not a place for children, but am absolute must to stop in. They won't disappoint.

Mediterranean yez puhleeze

By AOneWorldTraveler |

It’s worth sitting in this dining room alone...without eating...it’s that awesome! But the food is great too if you like bold flavors. And, I’d say it’s more Mediterranean than French. Some really cool unusual combinations like black & white sesame seeds on top of a preserved lemon curd tart, it works! Lots of garlic and onions. Service was awesome.

Fabulous French on Fifth

By Phlyjets |

This is my new favorite restaurant in New York! The decor was delightful, the service was seamless, and the food was fantastic. I came here for lunch on a busy Friday. My group had reserved, which is a good thing because it got crowded very quickly. I had a delicious steak with frites. Beautifully cooked - nice crust on the exterior. I started with a Bibb lettuce -- gorgeous leafy greens, crumbled breadcrumbs for bite, and a nice vinaigrette. My companions enjoyed: salmon on a pea puree (she raved about it), cucumber and date salad (surprisingly spicy, and a nice mix of flavors), lamb kefta (spicy and bright). It was a great experience! I will absolutely go back the next time I'm in town!

A breath of fresh air in the city

By sanzscript |

We were on a short stop over between Dublin and Miami and I could not think of a better place to be on a long Sunday afternoon. Claudette's is a very beautiful and cozy restaurant in Manhattan that takes you away from the city for a couple hours, and has you dreaming of the food for days afterwards. The cuisine draws on French / Moroccan ingredients, and the decor inspires visions from Sofia Coppola's Marie Antoinette. Our server, Robyn, was kind, knowledgable, and put us at ease as the afternoon went on-or maybe that was the fabulous Cremant. Speaking of-- the wine list is lovely, just slightly pricey. I had the warm beet salad, which tickles your nose with the horseradish kick, but is absolutely delicious. Make sure you save room for dessert. They made their own truffles...

Visit the French Countryside in Greenwich Village

I had lunch here recently with three friends and we all loved the experience! Our meals were great, the staff was friendly and the atmosphere extremely charming! One important thing--management has installed an air filtration system to ameliorate the effects of Covid 19, so we all felt very safe and 'cared for'. We will be back as soon as possible!

Delicious food & lovely service

By Christina M |

We went for NYC restaurant week and it was terrific. The menu was a small but nice mixture, the staff were so so hospitable and professional. Wine was fairly expensive but yum, and the atmosphere was a beautiful mix of laid back NYC vs. fine dining. Overall, laid back, comfortable yet fancy and top quality food.

Disappointed.

By jbgshrink |

I certainly expected to be enthusiastic about this place but that was not to happen. First of all, it is incredibly noisey. Tables are on top of one another and it requires effort to hear the people you are dining with. We shared three plates of vegetables first as our entree. The eggplant was delicious but the beets and the lentils were too sharp as they were marinated in A LOT of vinegar. My entree was salmon. It was too heavily seasoned and too dry. I requested that the salmon be cooked through but it should not have been overcooked and dry. It was served with a very modest portion of mushrooms and a few gnocchi. My friend had the chicken tagine which was much more substantial and apparently very tasty. I'm uncertain as to whether I would give this place a second chance. And I am disappointed.

Charming

the appetizer of Burrata with squash was excellent. We had entrees of Chicken with vegetables and Lamb tagine and both were delicious. Patrimonio white wine was also was very good. Service was good and so I highly recommend Claudette.

Great Place for French/ Moroccan Food

By JGC |

Claudette is a great neighborhood place for french food, with a Moroccan twist. The food is very good, with many choices for the first course, the wine list is limited but offers some reasonable priced wines for NYC and the service is top notch.

Nice lunch

By marield1990 |

This was our first time here. The wait staff were all super friendly and attentive. They started out by giving us a bottle of water on the table. We got the mint lemonade, which was ok. It started off tasty, but they put a little lemonade at the bottom, a lot of ice, seltzer and some mint leaves so once the lemonade was gone, it tasted like seltzer water. Not what I was hoping for. For my meal I got the lamb burger, which was good and came with coriander mayo. The fries were also good. My girlfriend got the duck sandwich and said it was really good. Overall, the price for a lunch is a bit high, but the decor is what really makes the place. It has great lanterns and a white and blue color scheme. Overall a cute place, good wait staff and good food. Only the drink was a let down.

Serenity in the City

By Kathy H |

We were meeting up with friends we hadn't seen for awhile, so our #1 requirement for a restaurant was somewhere relatively quiet where we could talk. We found it at Claudette. The tables are not cramped or squeezed together and although the restaurant was full, the noise level was low and we enjoyed a lovely, relaxed dinner. It was a perfect escape from the crowded, loud and frenetic pace outside. The atmosphere itself would have been enough, but we were pleased to find that our meal was delicious. There was a guinea hen ravioli special that two in our party LOVED. My husband said his Hanger steak au poivre was perfection. All of us enjoyed cocktails off of their specialty Apertif menu so much that we had a second round. I ordered the roasted Brussels sprouts and would definitely order them again , soooooo tasty! But with all of the highlights of dinner. My dessert is what I will remember and crave the most: I ordered beignets because I love beignets, but these were like no beignet I've eaten before. Rather than being the traditional pillow shape, these were round balls, filled with warm Nutella! They were served with a big cup of warm salted caramel. Truly amazing. This was not a cheap dinner, but that said, it was well worth it for a special, delicious dinner. I would absolutely go again.

Bustling Authentic French Dining

By BFLOMAN |

Claudette is a small restaurant with a small bar area. Warm ambimance, casual setting, makes you feel comfortable. The only negative was the loud music could be turned down a notch. Food was well executed. A good combination of Seafood and Meat. Save room for dessert as you won’t be disappointed.

Wonderful dinner

A hidden gem in NYC’s village!

By Dominique Nicholas-Correa |

Featuring French cuisine with North African touches, this place has effortless class in a laid back atmosphere. We love the food here, give the braised lamb shank a try! The sous-chef Katie Foster is an amazing chef and manager! Thank you for creating a lovely experience. We’ll be back!

Great experience

By Lynnmurphy2013 |

This is one of those rare restaurants where all elements including the interior, staff and meals compliment one another and give you a great experience as well as a feed! Book ahead as it was full both times we went. We booked and got seated quickly. I had the squid which was a simple dish but full of flavour and same with both of my friends dishes. We had mint lemonades with our food before cocktails after which were all delicious too. Lovely place and the staff were super friendly! In particular our Irish waitress Robyn! Would highly recommend this place if youre in New York. Oh try the pommes frites! Whatever herbs/ spice they add to their chips (french fries) make them so so tasty.

Unfriendly restaurant

By TravelAl10024 |

Hostess yells at you about vaccines while NOT WEARING A MASK herself. Constant upsell. Overcharges for small items. Food okay but overall a rip off like many have said. Plus they don't understand the main point of dining out. The experience: To feel festive and welcome.
