A good place for breakfast

By JohnYa5 |

I had breakfast there today so I do not know about other meals. They provide good quick service. There are s lot of really good things on their breakfast menu. I had the Huevos Rancheros. It was very good snd filling. My daughter also ordered their black coffe and enjoyed it. I felt full for hours after.i

Flying Blueberry Pancakes!

By Rhonda R |

Stopped in only for coffee but the Blueberry Pancakes kept flying by us and so we had to order them Delicious !

Best in the neighborhood - lunch/ brunch

By Andy L |

High quality, fresh and to the extent reasonably possible, local foods. The service is usually good. Suggest going after 1:30 if possible to mitigate the typical crowding of lunch; weekend brunches you are destined to wait - but worth it food wise; of course sitting outside, weather permitting, adds another positive to the experience. The inside can get a bit noisy when crowded, but then again, the outside offers different sounds too- traffic, etc.

Recommended by a local

By Lackerfollow |

Had dinner here with a local friend and recommend it for a solid meal and nice atmosphere. We ordered a burger and a rice bowl, and both were very good. We were there on a Sunday night, and it was relatively full, but not packed.

Heathy food

By RajanJamuna |

Good ambience, friendly service and tasty food. We went there for brunch, but ended up not needing any food till dinner. Generous portions and smiling service.

Not impressed

By shawnCA |

This place was recommended to us and we had high hopes, especially after waiting 20 minutes for a table. We had matzo ball soup, pancakes, and a fruit plate. The pancakes were probably were the best of the lot, the soup was rather tasteless and the fruit was not that good. Portion size quite small for their prices. This is obviously a favorite in the neighborhood, maybe we ordered the wrong items but I don't see the appeal.

Healthy Options Sinful Desserts .

By madhav24 |

Like most places around Columbia University , Community has a cheerful open ambience and friendly service . There is an extensive breakfast and brunch menu , whilst for meal times you can choose healthier options like the brown rice or veggie bowls with different toppings . But for dessert The flourless Chocolate Cake with whipped cream and a side of rasbererries is irrestible !

Delicious food; terrible noise level

By citygirl450 |

I've been here many times because I live in the neighborhood. The food is very good, of a quality that one usually has to pay much more for. I would come here more often except for the noise - when the restaurant is full (as it often is) the noise level is painful. The people who work here will end up with hearing loss. I try to go when it's quieter - for an early supper or a late lunch, for example, or when Columbia U. is not in session. If you like to be able to have a conversation while you eat, be careful when you go. The food makes the effort to find a quiet time worthwhile.

Solid Brunch

By Katie |

Community Food & Juice serves up a solid brunch. The pancakes were light and fluffy, and the egg sandwich successful fulfilled that egg sandwich craving I had. There was great service, and the environment was warm and inviting as it is clearly a favorite spot for the locals. Was it life changing? No. In a city full of brunch, Community Food and Juice wouldn't be my first choice if I wasn't in the area. But if you're nearby, check it out. it won't disappoint, but it won't knock your socks off either.

Good Food and Excellent Service

By ArmyNurseElPaso_TX |

Great salads and sandwiches for lunch. The waitress was excellent. We did not know the kitchen closed, so we could not get dessert.

Nothing worth mentioning

By Hege M |

A neighborhood I visit with regular frequency and one with a meager selection of good restaurants. I really wish this could be that reliable place. Unfortunately there’s not much positive to say. Not to mention how miserable the staff looks. The wine is an unfortunate lot and the food is bland and poorly prepared. I guess I’m back to Le Monde.

Get there early!

By Helene Cohen |

I went with a group of friends for breakfast. We were reccomended this restaurant by many, and we knew jt gets busy so we came early and the food was delicious! I had the french toast!

A good spot on the upper west side

By DJKham |

Came here based on a recommendation from our Air B&B host. It's nothing revolutionary if you're a breakfast/brunch lover but a solid option in this part of the city. We were there around 10am on a summer week end and managed to get a table on the patio without waiting which was nice. My wife had the cod with caviar on potato pancakes. She says it was a 5 star dish and it certainly looked the part. I had an omelette which is served with sourdough bread and potato carrot homefries. Also great and a generous portion (except the toast serving which was disproportionately small compared to the omelette). We also tried their fresh squeezed OK which was great. Overall, a worthwhile spot to check out if you're in the neighborhood.

Great breakfast, lovely setting, fantastic service

By Fabra1234 |

We were staying on the Upper West Side / Morningside Heights, and had been looking for a good breakfast spot. We found this at the end of our holidays, and would have visited again if we had time. We went for breakfast, and they had a good selection - pancakes, omelettes, huevos rancheros, etc. The service was excellent, and the waitress was very good with our kids (6 and 14). The food was delicious, the setting was great - nice atmosphere, nice music - and great service - what more do you want!

Organic yumminess!

This place is definitely trendy and cool. Great selections and fresh. Blah blah Blah blah Blah blah Blah blah YUMMY!!!!

The best NYC breakfast

By Jennifer T |

We rented an apartment on the UWS starting in 2010. Moved to Nomad in 2014. And we still travel to Community for the best breakfast in NYC. Country breakfast and blueberry pancakes are a must. The country breakfast is served with delicious perfectly browned potatoes and a fabulous biscuit. Pancakes are light and filled with fresh blueberries. The staff is so friendly and attentive. LOVE this place. Great for lunch as well

Weekend Brunch

By Yupi67 |

now know why this is a community favorite. My husband and I had an extremely tasty brunch here yesterday. The food was superb. I had a vegetarian Eggs Benedict that was sooo yummy and my husband had the Huevos Rancheros. I will definitely visit this restaurant again. Something that I loved from this place was the fact that they had turkey chorizo. Thank you!

OK breakfast

By thoughtfuldiner |

Good pancakes, though I would prefer more generous fruit toppings. OK bottomless coffee, and decent orange juice and carrot hashbrowns. Prices high, but they seem in more or less line for this area. Polite service, noisy place.

SUNDAY BRUNCH WAS WORTH THE 15 MINUTE WAIT

By Tom C |

The brunch choices were interesting with some things for every appetite. We had the BELT (but with egg) waffle special with mixed fruit and thefrench toast with maple syrup. The service was quick and friendly. It is a boisterous environment so don't plan to whisper sweet nothings to your partner. Great find.....can't wait to return.

A shared experience

By acalicocat |

The word community should not be taken lightly. The seating is part private tables and part shared tables. There are tables outside , look out for rain showers. Not much for the meat eater , there was a chicken dish and one steak item. The steak I ordered, was well cooked and tasty , French fries were average. The chocolate cake was heavy and dense. Overall, to noisy , well that's the community feel I suppose. Maybe I am just getting too old and crusty . I am fed up with clientele that are dressed as if they had just got out the swimming pool. Not fine dining ! Well that's the community feel I suppose.

Great breakfasts

By Bruce S |

This is a Columbia U hang out with great breakfasts that are reasonably priced. Very casual atmosphere.

Yum! Delicious lunch on upper Broadway

By etmcd |

I was looking for a place to eat that had gluten-free options for my wife and found this on Trip Advisor. She loved her salmon rice bowl and a buddy and I each had the BELT (bacon, egg, lettuce and tomato. Everyone loved their lunch. Also - they had top notch service. I would go again any day!

Great lunch, healthy, good vibe

By WBCThree |

Enjoyed the delicious salad and great service. Great place to visit when you are at Columbia University or in the area.

popular dining spot by Columbia

By bluesmama11 |

We met friends here and got here at around 10:30 --by the time we left there were lines out the door--so go early if you are there on the weekends for brunch. No big complaints but I probably wouldn't go back because I have a personal peeve about restaurants that charge you for everything extra, or to make a reasonable substitution. My friend wanted a biscuit instead of the bread that came with her breakfast item, and there was a $2 extra charge. Especially since I think their prices are high anyway. My tea --while in a big cup-- was $3.50 and no one offered to bring some more water for a refill. I do have to say they have a very large & acomodating menu to choose from, especially if you looking for gluten-free or vegan. Everyone enjoyed their meals.

Great breakfast/brunch option in the Upper West Side

By gosaka |

Had a great breakfast/brunch here last week. All the basics plus healthful veggie options. Pretty busy here as you'd expect - highly recommended. Note that there's construction around the place now so you'll need to look carefully to spot the place under the scaffolding.

Disappointing salad

By TravelFan48105 |

This restaurant has a warm atmosphere. Our party of 5 was promptly seated in a relatively quiet part of the restaurant (which was appreciated as the place can get very noisy). I was disappointed with my organic kale salad. The menu description was enticing but basically it was just a pile of leaves with the toppings so sparse that they required hunting down to find them (small bits of beans, carrot, sweet potato). The balsamic-agave dressing was very good, though. The sweet potato fries were over-cooked and the smaller ones were burnt black. The bread ordered for the table was tasteless and fluffy. Service was fine, no complaints, except that a wrong order was brought to our table (then promptly removed when we pointed this out). The restaurant is in an area where there are few restaurants, which may account for its popularity. However, in my opinion, it is not worth a special trip.

Good food, limited menu, charged for anything extra......

By pachachuck |

Ate there for lunch ..... limited menu, seemed like mostly students (and their families) > I ordered a vege burger (mashed chick peas). When I asked them to add lettuce, she said it'd be $1 extra (for lettuce? well, it is NY.... but it's too greedy for me) The vege burger was mushy and had no flavor. My fries were hot, but a little soggy. > My fiance had a 'grass fed burger' and made a face after the first bit. When I tasted it, it had no taste? We compared it to one we had last week and another restaurant that was full of flavor and seasonings.... The salads that came by us looked pretty good and I wish I'd ordered one of them..... We've eaten there for breakfast (a safer bet) and had a good meal...... but, again, they served a small size portion of syrup for my pancakes and they charged me for another syrup (CHEAP!). We won't be going there again.

Go for the Blueberry Pancakes!

By April |

They serve some of the best blueberry pancakes I've had in NYC. I didn't used to love pancakes but their blueberry pancakes completely changed my opinion of them. The other brunch offerings aren't really that special though so just go for the blueberry pancakes.

Great meal. Tasty AND healthy

By santafekk |

After touring colleges, we lunched at Community. Highly recommend the bread and spread platters as appetizers. Also loved the rice bowls with Salmon. This is less rice and more crisp, tasty julienned veggies. The salmon was perfectly cooked- slightly pink inside, nice, crisp char outside. When they messed up and accidentally mixed up my daughter's salmon order with chicken, they made up for it with a hefty friends and family discount on the bill. Would definitely return.

Loved the place

By prasan68 |

We surely loved this place adjacent to Colombia university and highly recommended by the student who gave us a tour. We understand it is a favorite of Michelle Obama.

Bland food, slightly over-priced

By Jakonthemove |

Nice place and everything, good location. Professional staff. The brunch menu has all the typical stuff on it. The problem is that the food is no good. It is not bad, it just tastes... nothing. On top of that their prices are slightly expensive, even for NYC standards.

Great location if your visiting Columbia University

By MaeH4 |

This place was super busy on Friday around lunch, but we were able to get in with a group of 5. Staff friendly, service was excellent and food very tasty. I had the market veggi bowl with tofu. Also had a Bloody Mary, it wasn’t bad. All in all we had great meals and will go back.

Super breakfast

By debbieginmd |

We have eaten at Community twice now and have been pleased with the food both times. The service is also excellent. They know how to serve breakfast right!!!

Excellent Fish

By JCHQ1 |

I was here last week and I had the fish special and a creme brûlée dessert. Both were excellent although the real star of the meal was the lemonade/honey/tea mix. Highly recommended.

Hipster in Manhattan Valley

By 717DTillman |

I have eaten a Community for brunch --when it is so packed with dinners that you can barely get in the door-- and late night for dessert, when it is much more calm and low key. Both times I really enjoyed the food, drinks and atmosphere. The I really like is that the person I was with, who has a severe gluten allergy, had such a wide variety of entrees and sides to choose from. You should really check it out.

Neighborhood Gem and Healthy Food!

By LoRy |

We visited early on a Sunday eve. Three if decided to order the Rice Bowl; 1 with tofu; 1 with chicken and 1 with salmon. We also order an app of fresh french bread with humus. Everything was delicious, healthy and filling. We also ordered the apple crisp to share. Again, warm and delicious. Service is very efficient. We'll be back!

Great Uptown Brunch

By Brent D |

For big portions and seemingly responsibly sourced healthy food options, this is an excellent spot. I had the breakfast sandwich, that was overflowing with eggs, just enough cheese, a tasty poultry sausage, on a fall-apart-just-inside-your-mouth biscuit, with their staple hashbrowns with carrot on the side. Altogether a great spot across the street from Columbia.

Exceeded expectations

By Sarika K |

The worst thing about this place is deciding what to order from the diverse menu. I ordered the veggie burger and unlike most non-meat patties, this one stayed together and didn't fall apart, making it a graceful meal. It comes with a huge side of fries which are garnished and can be eaten without any sauce. The waitress was kind despite the crowd and food/drink came promptly. Great place for 2 people to sit and relax and conversate. I will be coming back!!!!

Yummy food and good selections!

By danibrig |

This is a very nice, quiet spot near Columbia University. If it's good weather, I definitely recommend the outside seating! The menu has a wide variety of options and the portions are nicely sized. The service the first time I went was a bit spotty but I believe it was because it was near closing time; however, the second time they also got my salad order wrong (w/ dressing instead of on the side but were nice about replacing it even though it took a while). I definitely recommend for a nice fair priced meal in a good spot.

Good food, but not worth the price.

By Morningsider |

Community has a great location on Broadway between Columbia and the cathedral, and its food is tasty, professionally-served, and always fresh. However, that describes most restaurants in Columbia's orbit, an Community charges significantly more than many other options nearby that are just as good. If you eat here you can expect a quality meal, but it's definitely not the best value.

Get rid of the substitution charge to get to a great status

By Siryan |

Went for brunch with family recently and thought the cafe looked great. The menu appeared good too. Selected our menu choices and simply asked for the ham to be substituted for avacaco (equal value on menu prices) to which we were surprised to learn that we would have to pay an extra $2 for any substitution. Making dishes more veggie friendly therefore makes them more expensive, or whatever other substitution you might prefer within reason. I can understand a charge for a more expensive subsitution BUT it was priced equally on their own menu. My first experience of such a rule - its crazy and completely offputting for a cafe which would otherwise be really nice. In our end of the world we call this good customer service. When I challnged the waiter on this he got really aggresive claiming that he only worked there and it was the rule and I could speak to the manager if I wanted - further offputting. This guy just waved goodbye to his tip. If they want to be unreasonable then I refused to tip for poor service and flexibility. As far as the food was concerned. I ordered the blueberry pancakes which were amazing and my husband ordered the country breakfast with the substitution of avocado for the ham instead. The biscuit was boring and dry and the hash which looked really nice was just bland. One good choice and one poor choice. The coffee was pretty awful and I got it served with cold milk instead of the warm milk I requested – oh well. On the whole, great atmosphere, pancakes are awesome, some dishes bland, poor coffee, service and management need to get rid of the substitution charge to avoid unnecessarily annoying their customers.

Excellent food, stuffy staff

By Mari |

Great restaurant for anyone who loves wholesome, healthy food (without feeling like it's "typical" health food). In my daily life, I eat primarily whole grains, lean meats, and vegetables... items that can be tough to come by when traveling. I was thrilled to see that Community Food & Juice focuses on all these items -- my salmon came on a mound of delicious veggies, my side of farro pilaf was wholesome, and even my cocktail wasn't sugary sweet like you'd find at standard restaurants! Our server was really unfriendly, probably due to how popular/busy the restaurant is, but I can't rate it "excellent" without a more pleasant server experience. The food is worth it though!

Perfect for Brunch

By Devonta |

The Community Food & Juice has a highly recommended brunch. Be prepared to wait atleast 25 minutes before being seated due to popularity. The best dish had to be the pineapple waffle special that they had that day. I'm hoping that will be added to the menu on my next visit.

Very gluten friendly

By KUMonkey |

Recently visited a friend of mine in the city, she has some dietary restraints, gluten being the culprit. I highly recommend this place, we had an appetizer made with rice flour and the soy dipping sauce was also gluten free. Main dish was equally delicious. You can eat inside or out and there is also a bar area for you drinking types. Waiter was phenomenal, really on the ball. Highly recommend if you are looking for good food with a unique menu.

Great find for a mid-morning meal!

By Amy S |

Family-style tables -- similar to many of the BBQ places in Texas! My son and I stopped in during a busy day of touring and college visits. It was a refreshing break with some fantastic food!! My son raved about his omelette and french toast; while I enjoyed a huge portion of granola, fresh fruit and greek yogurt. Again, perfect place to regroup, people watch and enjoy our fill.

Neighborhood restaurant getting just a bit too comfortable

By janeaustinNY |

This restaurant clearly caters to local residents and Columbia and Barnard students' parents, according to our Barnard niece, who enjoys the food. We were neither impressed with the service nor the food. Our beet salad was delicious but it took over a half hour after that to get our main courses. My rare lamb was charcoal black and the presentation was lack luster. They advertised half price wines the night we were there, but the modest bottle we ordered could not possibly have cost $52 full priced. I like they take advantage of the neighborhood good will, and for expensive prices in a university environment, one should expect more. As the NY Times recently discussed, the descriptions far out weigh the food itself. It is too bad. I hope they will work toward being more consistent.

So good and so good for you

By katrinangel2 |

I had the most delicious chickpea bowl. Who knew that so few ingredients could taste so amazing and so satisfying. They have other wonderful dishes but I really like this one!

Blueberry Pancakes!

By BaldAndHappy |

This place is great, overall, but.... You have to get the blueberry pancakes. I am not even that big of a fan of pancakes, but these are just special. The service is good and other menu items are tasty, but... Get in line and order blueberry pancakes!

Solid

By Michael H |

This place just does solid food that is tasty. Nothing crazy exciting going on here, but everything is really just good... I personally like the burger & the rice bowls. There's also some delicious apps like the korean bbq lettuce wraps and grilled pizza. Go on the 50% off wine nights... great value.

Good food & Swift service

By SaadSeeb |

A nice place which is quite busy at lunch time. After a wait for 5-10 min we were seated at the back of the restaurant. Its quite a big place but was fully packed. The waitress was attentive and our order was brought pretty swiftly. Food was fresh but nothing much to write home about. Can go there again for lunch/breakfast.

Quality place and good value

By pdrf341 |

Great food and service. The staff is very attentive. A great find. Subsequently found out it has a very strong reputation in the area around Columbia and I see why. So glad I stopped in. A great harbor of hospitality and respite in the upper west side for sure!

Great for summer dining (and more)

By Amy K |

We were looking for a restaurant for people with very different tastes. One, a burger freak, the other a vegan/gluten free/macrobiotic freak. Community Food was great. We both ended up having the rice bowls (not what either of us had planned) and they were excellent. With both indoor and outdoor seating it's a perfect place for summer dining. Perfectly located in Morningside Heights, easy access from Columbia, Columbus Circle, etc. The neighborhood is charming and full of great shopping as well.

Pleasantly surprised and would return

By betteskid |

I ate here with family recently. Although I didn't choose the place, I would definitely go back. The food is very well-prepared and well-served in a casual atmosphere. The most striking thing about the food is the freshness. I chose a rice bowl that came heaping with fresh vegetables and tofu, topped with a very tasty sauce. Others in our party enjoyed salmon, either in a typical entree presentation or in a rice bowl and were very pleased with their food. The atmosphere is casual and the service was fine. The restaurant is in the area near the main Columbia campus and a good spot to stop for a casual dinner in that area.

Grouper sandwich was great

By 2020worldtraveler2020 |

Quick family stop for lunch and we all enjoyed it. The grouper sandwich, though, was the highlight dish for us. Staff was nice.

Delicious brunch on the UWS

By Cancersucksprep |

I’ll start by saying Community is known for their pancakes and they did look amazing, but I don’t eat pancakes! I do however eat eggs and my cast iron frittata was amazing! Huge portion- I took half home and reheated for breakfast the next day. Fresh brewed iced tea- cocktails that others ordered around me looked very good! My best friend gets the biscuit sandwich every time she goes. Friendly service- could be a little more attentive. Next time I want to try their burgers and shoestring fries. A gem near Columbia University!

Warm space for a group to eat and hang out

By Wendy T |

6 of us had dinner. We got lucky and had a table tucked in area near bar. It felt like a private room. Food was solid and good. Not super adventuresome. Fresh and American. Deserts to share were massive and really tasty. We tried 4!! All great. Neighborhood vibe. Friendly staff. A swing and a hit!

Good and Not Just Gluten Free, Vegan, etc.

By Peter B |

Given its name, I assumed that this would be entirely gluten-free, vegan, etc. I was pleasantly surprised that it had a good variety of other things on the menu. It does emphasize organic and locally-sourced food, which is good. Presentation was nice. The squash ravioli was excellent, and the brick chicken with Israeli couscous was quite good. Nice list of rotating local beers. Tables are close together, and the place has good buzz.

I So Wanted This to be Great

By El_Pelicano |

But it wasn't. We went all the way up to Morningside Heights on a friend's recommendation to try community food and juice and were so psyched to walk into the warm and welcoming space. My partner and I split three dishes: The lettuce wraps, a pizza, and the rice bowl with salmon. The lettuce wraps were flat out delicious, with the pork having been slow roasted in a sweet and savory marinade. Would definitely order these again. The pizza was a disappointment, A limp piece of flatbread with slabs of undistinguished cheese and flavorless toppings. And the rice bowl with salmon, too, was bland and uninteresting. Indeed, while I'm not sure about this, I think they may have forgotten to put dressing on it. Totally forgettable. The beer was good! Warm place, very nice waitstaff, average food.

Good enough to make a second trip

By Monica Herwald |

Spent the weekend visiting the neighborhood, and had dinner the night we arrived. Fairly small but excellent menu selection, with options for both the omnivore and vegetarians in our group. Good drinks, fresh and wonderfully seasoned food, and reasonably priced. We went back again for brunch on Sunday, and the multi-grain waffles were outstanding! Fresh whipped cream, juicy berries, and buttery syrup made for an irresistible combination. We all kept eating to the end, despite being full. Service was accommodating and pleasant on both occasions.

CASUAL, DELECTABLE AND FRIENDLY

By GENEVIEVE S |

It was a night out with my co-workers.. Everything was just perfect! Most of us ordered the black sea bass and the others had the rib eye. The food was delectable, tasty and moist and cooked to perfection ! An atmosphere fit for close friends having a good time. Our waiter, CRIS, was amazing. He was knowledgeable and attentive. It's my 5th time in this westside gem and obviously, I love this place and what it has to offer. An I'm pretty sure it won't be my last

Worth the wait for brunch

By Jaewriter |

Went after moving our daughter into Columbia. There are so many options around the campus, but this one had a line - a promising sign when other restaurants had empty tables. I had the eggs florentine on a whole wheat biscuit, accompanied by artichokes. The chokes were a little undercooked, but the eggs and hollandaise sauce were great. Burger was good as well. The frittata looked great, but it was a little asparagus forward for my tastes. Coffee was great.

Convenient location, okay food

By Brito_34 |

We tried this restaurant based on a recommendation by a Columbia student. The location was super convenient. We were somewhat disappointed by the food. I had huevos rancheros. The homemade tortilla was not good at all - it was tough like leather. The toppings were quite tasty.

Great UWS eatery

By Luke S |

Community offers excellent American food at a reasonable price with plenty of gluten free options. It’s one of the best restaurants in the Columbia neighborhood, which is evidenced by the brunch and dinner crowds. Creative gluten free shrimp and veggie tempura and butterscotch pudding highlight their tasty offerings.

Nice breakfast

By alkimadrid |

Every time I've been here it's for breakfast. The menu has a nice variety for every choice, the service is efficient and everything we've tasted is very good. Especially the chocolate chip pancakes are yummy! The only reason I don't give it a five star rating is that my friend found a hair in her plate.

Fresh Options in Morningside

By NewPoster |

Second trip. Daughter and Dad had a great breakfast first visit in Spring. We tried again in summer and were disappointed in our choices. Underseasoned vegetarian chickpea based “burger” and inaccurately described tofu and veg scramble. Scramble issue could have been avoided if waitstaff had accurately described the days omelette options for veg or checked on the food delivered. Both dishes needed salt (we don’t usually need to add salt). Staff was not good on follow up, too many people doing too many things without enough attention to details. Hopefully will be addressed

Vaccation

Best food we had all trip! We had their breakfast and I loved it! Go their if you have the time! Or take your time to go there

Delicious Food !

By angie11111 |

Really great food and nice atmosphere. I had the pan roasted sea scallops with wild mushroom grits and they were FANTASTIC !! Perfectly cooked and so well seasoned. Side of sweet potato fries just right. Our server was lovely and made us feel very comfortable. No wait at 7 on a Monday night.

yummy eats near CU

By ExpatinBSB |

great food - yummy dessert - reasonable prices for the city - fresh, farm-to-table feel, excellent choice close to Columbia U

Delicious and sumptuous meals. Good service. Convenient location to Columbia U.

By Waterloonie |

The food here is creative and delicious, with very sizable portions. Service is good. If you're near Columbia and looking for a good food and good value, this is the place.

Used to be great, lost all its love and is now a HATE FACTORY

By kaily |

I have been coming since the place opened, and live for the last 20 years, nearby, I have been coming nearly every weekend for at least the last 12 years whenever I have been in town, always ordering the same thing. I personally know ALL the staff pre-COVID, after Covid the place changed, though David ( the manager ) remains. Over the years, i have noticed the quality drop, little cuts - they used to serve you 4 packages, now you get 3. Maple butter ( extra) used to be free, there is an uncharge now. I miss the beet chips that used to come with the fish sandwich. David sometimes makes an appearance, but the place is run for the last 3-4 years by a group of new people who DON'T CARE - and generally hate their jobs. The animosity is passed on to food. I no longer feel comfortable eating here - and today they lost a customer has been going for the last 10+ years. David was no where to be seen, and the "manager" on duty there, essentially told me to get lost. The don't care because Columbia students will come here anyway, the place cycles out with people who are transient - they don't need local customers. I am never coming back

Best Breakfast on Upper West Side

By 421maggie |

I'd been here for lunch before, but this was the first time for breakfast. I had a classic breakfast of 2 eggs over-easy, ham, hashbrowns, and a biscuit. Everything was light, perfect, and delicious, especially the ham and biscuit. And, it's the best coffee, I've had at breakfast in New York. The pleasant atmosphere and wonderful service only added to our visit. We'll be going back.

Solid Breakfast/Brunch

By LEB-FLA |

ate here twice recently nice close to Columbia University nothing too fancy just a really good breakfast brunch place that covers all the bases

Ideal NYC breakfast on the Upper West Side

By Aspie44 |

The community Food restaurant is the the upper West side Twin of the Clinton St. Bakery in the LES. Both with excelent food , good service and long waiting lines During brunch time especially on Saterday and Sunday. Still worth while the wait!

Excellent place for lunch near Columbia

By Harris G |

I had lunch there with a friend. We both had the veggie sandwich, and it was excellent. Service was also very good. Looks like there are lots of good restaurants in the area, but this one is worth another visit.

Graduation Day Brunch

By TheSuze12 |

We were lucky to get there before the rush of people on this special day. My children and I opted for breakfast. I had the country breakfast as did my son. It was very good and came with lots of food. My daughter loved the Nutella Pancakes and my husband liked his burger. Lovely breakfast spot and very good service too.

Best breakfast in the neighborhood

By Lauren620 |

I ordered eggs Benedict Florentine. The eggs were perfectly poached, the spinach and artichoke hearts were fresh and not cooked limp, Hollandaise was okay, and it was served over a freshly made biscuit. Service a bit slow, but on the other hand, this is not fast food. As usual, it was crowded and noisy, especially at the bar, which was the only seating available without waiting for a table, which would also have been crowded and noisy. Crowded because it offers the best breakfast close to Columbia on Broadway.

Simply the best

By Jennifer T |

A real neighborhood gem. We have been coming here for more than 15 years. Can’t beat the country breakfast and blueberry pancakes. Homemade biscuits. Great vibe. Friendly staff. Lunch also wonderful. Delicious rice bowls. We moved downtown on the east side and travel all the way up here for their fabulous breakfasts. Highly recommend

Not my kind of community.

By Llynne T |

This place is so busy being all free range vegetarian gluten free that they seem to have forgotten how to cook. I ordered a burger, no cheese, medium rare. I got an over-cooked, flavorless meatball on a bland, flavor-free bun. Accompanying fries were OK; pickle slice good. Hot, humid afternoon in August; hot, humid afternoon in the restauant where ac seemed inoperative. Server discussed specials at adjoining table of men, never mentioned that specials were available when he took our (two women) orders. My displeasure was reflected in the tip.

Really good family style brunch

By Stevescnt |

We had brunch here with another family: seating for 7 was accommodated easily and we were placed discretely away from the hungover Halloween crew which probably suited everyone just fine! Food was fab: service also good, and unusually for NYC it was very good value for money. Top tip: portions are huge so whatever you are thinking, and however hungry you think you are, SHARE!

A long walk up Riverside Drive...

By Kerry M |

...a buttery biscuit, an enviable egg scramble and melty cheddar cheese. And it was cool enough and quiet enough to eat on the sidewalk (restaurant side not street side).

Good food but LOUD and crowded

By Marion S |

I like the food at community and have never gone wrong here with anything I ordered. Generally, the food is great quality, with lots of choices for vegetarians, vegans, carnivores, fish eaters, and gluten-free eaters. However, sometimes the service is great and other times it's iffy. There's no reservations and it sometimes gets so crowded you have a long wait. It's loud with tables pushed next to each other. Like many places in the neighborhood it's a lot less crowded in the summer when most of the Columbia students are goone.

Great service and good food

By Armando F |

We ordered the ranchero eggs and a blueberry pancake. The food was great and price ok. The place is good to stop and talk.

Such good food!

By scgirl61 |

Always try to eat at Community Food and Juice when I am in the city. Today I had the quiche and a salad. It was delicious. My son had the blueberry pancakes and they were heavenly! I love the atmosphere and the service is always great!

Nice dinner in noisy restaurant

By Armand B |

Wife & I split a N.Y Strip-special of the day; it was cooked medium rare, and was very good; fries also were good. Prompt professional service by experienced waiter.Daughter ordered fish & was also pleased. Wide choice of menu items; the tables are all together & you will be eating next to whoever is seated there. Seems to be a very popular restaurant with young people.

An “Upper” on the upper West Side

By Andreas B |

Good food and very attentive service by a proffessional staff. Enjoyed a family dinner with a variety of foods. The Mussels were perfect and served with bread or fries. The sauce was excellent - spicy and tasty. The meat was also very good. A nice experience !

Perfect Sunday brunch place

By Sharon M |

What a surprise! This place rocks ! A wonderful breakfast/brunch menu ( much more attractive i feel, then the lunch menu). The eggs Benedict are to die for and all is fresh and yummy. We also loved the looks and atmosphere of the place.

A Really Great Breakfast and Brunch

By jdavis284 |

Community Food and Juice is my favorite place for breakfast and brunch. The food is fresh, plentiful and moderately priced given the quality. They have unusual preparations and a wonderful blueberry pancake special before 9:00AM on weekdays. Their coffee is from a local distributor and is excellent. The service is always terrific and a great atmosphere as well. Plan ahead for brunch, there is usually a line waiting to get in but certainly worth it. This is the place to go to for breakfast and brunch in Morningside Heights!

OK spot in a no-man's-land

By Peter B |

This part of town does not have many spots one could go to, since it's the campus-land and everything has to adapt to the needs of that group. So you get what you'd expect - OK food with sporty service and a lot of noise. Quite busy on weekends, since the people living in the hood don't have many options. If you're there and don't have the time to commute somewhere else, this should do fine. Don't get the frittata, very boring, to the extent that's you just can't finish it. Nice benedicts.

The best breakfast I've had in New York

By Stephen C |

The French toast I had at Community Food and Juice was probably the best breakfast I've had on my trip to New York this year. I would definitely recommend a visit.

My Go To Place In the Neighborhood

By ayty367 |

Oh hello people. Sorry I have not written lately. I have been traveling a lot out of the country. This is the very first place I always come back to after a trip. But I digress. Anyway, I have been going here since they opened. Their food is CONSISTENTLY GOOD. I come here for breakfast, lunch and dinner, with or without family and friends. There are 2 drawbacks, to remember. They do not take reservations unless it is for 6 or more. Also, there is a noise factor. The Salmon Rice Bowl, hmm...., ravioli, steak, great organic drinks. Perfect for the spring commencements coming up. Oh Yes, the staff kind and hard working. Blake the perfect manager.

Great pancakes

By Gary B |

Had a really good brunch with some friends. the pancakes were excellent and the coffee was good. Friendly atmosphere and the service was good. The bacon and eggs were enjoyable, would recommend for a pleasant breakfast option.

Amazing Breakfast

By PushExplore |

We were a large group and after a short wait we found a nice table. We ordered a whole bunch of things and the quality of the food and the portion sizes were amazing! Very American.... (Upsize), no complains there since we were all starving. Our waitress was very friendly and we had a memorable meal. Will surely go back next time i'm visiting NYC.

Very popular and very good

By operalover939 |

We went here for lunch with an old friend. Two had eggs benedict; I had the salmon salad with scrambled eggs. We shared fresh fruit for dessert. Everything was very good, and the prices were reasonable. This is a very popular place and deservedly so.

Great vegan food

By VanjasVeganVoyage |

Loved the options for the vegan food. I had the tofu scramble and it was great. The portion was awesome and super duper tasty. Service was great as well.... just a bit slow since they were very busy

A long wait for Nothing

By steve s |

It's a nice restaurant across from Columbia University, so the crowd is eclectic. There were four of us on a Sunday night. We had to remind them to deliver our drink order which took way-too-long to reach our table. When they did arrive, they were not very good. Couldn't taste the alcohol in them! Food took even longer to arrive and when it did, it was not sufficient nor impressive. My salad with chicken was more like shredded grass clippings. Chicken was fine, but as a salad without the chicken, which was an option, it would have been mistaken for packaging material. Seems like the salad was cut in a blender! My wife ordered beet salad and got beat! Never again, thank you!

Not for me

By Andrea Stagg |

A colleague of mine loves this place, particularly for lunch. So far I have been there twice and both times did not particularly enjoy my food - I went for brunch and lunch. When I went for lunch, my dish was fairly bland so I asked for hot sauce. It came more than 10 minutes later. I do not see myself going back, although there is often a line of people waiting to get in. The coffee is very good.

Rather dry

By Publius_Ovidius |

I had the banana and walnut pancakes. They looked good and tasted good but I got three massive pancakes and only 8 pieces of banana and a tiny amount of sauce so overall most of the pancakes ended up being dry and rather simple as the banana was long gone.

Excellent Food * Excellent Service * A Favorite

By Frequenttraveler082 |

Four of us dined here for dinner on a Monday night. We had reservations. All four of our party had to be present before we were seated. I understand that Community is a very popular place, and space is limited, so they have this policy, which, if you want to eat here, you tolerate it. Our waiter was friendly and attentive. He clued me in that underneath the tables, are hooks for people to hang their bags or purses. Two of us ordered the grilled salmon burger, which the menu states is made in house with organic salmon, and served with avocado, wasabi mayo, arugula, and a side salad made from local greens. Both of us thought the food was absolutely delicious. The salmon burger was flavorful, juicy, and not fishy tasting at all. A third person in our party ordered the Veggie Burger, also made in-house, and reported it was delicious. Our waiter was friendly and attentive. We all had a very nice dinner. And we were not rushed to leave - in fact, we ended up being the very last to leave that evening. Yes, it's crowded and busy - Community is a very popular dining spot. When we arrived, there were people seated at the bar eating dinner. This is the second or third time I've eaten at Community, and it continues to provide consistently delicious food, and good sized portions. I plan on returning here again in the future.

Intimate, organic vibe

By Stephanie E |

I wish they had this in DC- similar vibe to Founding Farmers, but less hyped and with healthier options.

Good food, overpriced

By sammy |

As a resident of morningside heights, Community is one of my go-to places for brunch with friends/family visiting from out of town, or special occasions. It has a cool, trendy atmosphere, and a nice menu. However, the prices are higher than the quality reflects. Atmosphere: Great. The restaurant feels clean, fresh, modern, and relaxed. It's a really nice place to sit down with friends. Service: Pretty good. The servers are usually nice. However, Community does tend to get busy at certain hours and sometimes the stress of the employees can be felt. I also haven't felt like the hosts are always the most pleasant. Food: Good, but can be overpriced. Of the different thing's I've had at community, the real stand-out dishes to me were the Brick Chicken, the Zucchini Scallion Pancakes, the Organic Salmon, and the Matzo Ball Soup. For brunch I like the House Smoked Salmon Plate. Community has a lot of really great things about it, and at the end of the day I do recommend it. However, something about it (probably the prices) prevents it from becoming a regular spot for me.

Good food, wide selection!

By Kitty534 |

While in NYC, we planned to have lunch with a friend who had moved there a while back, and asked him to choose the place. He chose Community, and we were not disappointed. Although they were quite busy, we had only a 20 minute wait for a table. Our waitress was good, but the entire process, from being seated through finally getting our check, seemed a little slower than would be expected, especially during a busy brunch time. The menu has quite a wide selection, and seems to have many choices for anyone who has a health issue, is vegan, etc., or is just a selective eater. LOTS of choices! We had the steak and eggs special, the burger, the vegetable frittata, and a fruit bowl to share, and we all enjoyed our food. The OJ was honestly the best I've ever had, personally. Prices seemed reasonable for NYC. I would definitely visit again and encourage others to go there!

Popular Brunch Spot

By WilSc |

This is a very popular brunch spot near Columbia University campus and it’s easy to see why. I had the sausage and eggs which was really filling and set me up for a long day exploring the upper west side. Highly recommend.

locally sourced food

By R G |

good food, somewhat expensive, but a good neighborhood atmosphere. be prepared to wait if you're interested in weekend brunch!

Delicious!

By Annabelle F |

Reasonable wait for our party of three to be seated around midday ona Sunday, and great menu! So hard to choose what to eat. I greatly enjoyed the veggie scramble, and a little bite of my sister's blueberry pancakes (according to her, top three pancakes in the city). The botmoless coffee truly keeps coming. Perhaps a little loud, but not too much for me.

Columbia University goes California Organic

By Catherine c |

Very healthy with lots of locally sourced food. The spare and sometimes loud rooms are decorated with beautiful photos of fresh produce. The bar has very inventive cocktails. Go here if you love raw kale stay away if you want a burger and fries. Sunday brunch lines are impossible.

Brunch was Delicious

By Flyn1170 |

This is a lovely neighbourhood joint with exceptionally good service and very good food. Their specials are worth a try. The 7 grain waffle was absolutely delicious. If you want a good brunch in a place that is spacious and with excellent service, this is it.

Excellent food choices and healthy eats!

By Tino P |

I've visited this restaurant twice already and it always surprises with delicious food that always satisfies me and my colleagues. For the knowing lunch crowd, choosing something from the menu is like an exploration on its own since there are many choices to browse from. As a recommendation for good menu choices, you cannot go wrong with the natural grass fed beef burger or if you're vegan, you can select their salads which either way would leave you well satisfied. If you're looking for a simple meal, go for their bowls which automatically comes with brown rice but you can choose something else to go with it. Their daily specials are also something to try on. Overall, I would suggest reading the menu while you wait for a seat as it gets pretty crowded during lunch/dinner time. This way you can decide easily when you're seated. Service is also excellent! If you happen to visit Columbia University and you're looking for a place to eat away from the campus, I would highly recommend this restaurant.

Relaxed atmosphere, but quite noisy.

By TorKr |

This restaurant was recommended by locals. The food and wine was good, they have a special menu for gluten free food. The food was typically no nonsense and no artificial stuff in it. We ordered rice bowls and the portions were ample, I had salmon, my wife had chicken and our daughter had tofu.

Delightful, delovely, deamazing!

By MSSCentroEspiralMana |

I had another amazing meal here. carrot juice, Grilled asapagus, and tomato soup. Light heaven! The asapagus was grilled to perfection. Hot and crunchy with just the right amount of salt. The soup had a wonderful taste and consistency. And for dessert I had the phenomenal espresso cream brûlée topped with dark chocolate bits. Light and deep. It was a fantastic taste and texture experience!

Salads are reasonably sized; the food is pretty good, but it can get crowded after 7

By annbury |

We go to this place when we have a music event at the Miller Theater, which is about 5 times a year. The last time the food was good and the service is excellent. We both had salads, which were quite good and reasonably sized. I had a steak, which is always cooked to order. It is a rib eye and not a New York sirloin, so it is fattier and more difficult to eat than most, but the accompanying veggies (broccoli rabe) and fries were very good. My wife had the mussels which were very good. We had a loaf of bread, for which they charge $7, a bit high but it was excellent and came with two spreads. Dessert was a pear instead of a peach upside down cake and it was delicious.

Delicious breakfast

By COGirl68 |

We had a great breakfast meal here this morning - one of us had the special of Truffle Eggs, one of us had the Florentine Benedict poached eggs, and I had an omelette with bacon and goat cheese. Fast, quick service, the food was delicious. The coffee drinkers gave their cups a thumbs up, too. Nice, friendly staff, which is ALWAYS a plus. Will be returning during future visits to NYC.

Great breakfast and brunch spot

By Dmuwanga |

We were in town for a long weekend and new friends suggested this spot. A variety of items from the menu looked absolutely yummy! I had the special which was truffle eggs with mushrooms. arugula and potatoes, so tasty. My son had brioche French toast and inhaled it. My husband and friends had the huevos rancheros, pretty good however the chorizo was a bit dry according to my husband. Great place overall!

Best Brunch near Columbia

By chipdesigner |

Perhaps this is the only true brunch place near Columbia University. Great variety of food and very friendly service. Reasonably priced as well. The coffee was good too (not your usual restaurant blend). Huevos Rancheros were very good, but the portion was a bit small. The brioche french toast was a special dish, highly recommended.

THE MUSIC OH PLEASE GOD MAKE IT STOP

By therese36 |

Food was great but the music was so repellent and loud with only muffled repetitive bass- so loud you could not hear anyone at your table. Setting gets negative star. I won't return unless carry out

Loved the pancakes!

By Kevin A |

Made the trek uptown from where I was staying near Times Square based on a recommendation from my sister. I was not disappointed! The service is friendly and efficient; the coffee tasted great; and the blueberry pancakes (check the morning special 8 am - 9 am) were delicious!

Excellent option in the Upper West Side!

By Rodrigo M |

Above and beyond the juices, already notable and a celebrity in their own right, the food here is superb. I especially enjoy the rice bowls. The one with wild organic salmon is a personal favorite. The Korean BBQ wrap as starter is delish!!!!

Good brunch, terrible draft

By Roselle L |

It was relatively crowded on a Saturday afternoon, so my friend and I decided to sit at the bar. It was about a 45 minute wait if we wanted a table for two. The bar tender was friendly and provided good service. I ordered eggs benedict. The eggs were cooked well, firm white and runny yolk, bread was lightly toasted and the meat was fresh. My only complaint is that the door was constantly opening and there was a horrible draft that forced us to eat with our jackets on.

Community - Disappointing Father's Day

By Gabe220 |

We arrived at 7PM for dinner - seated around 7:20. Table of 7. Father's Day. Our waitress was slow and inexperienced. Things got worse. Dinner arrived around 8:15 with many apologies. Free dessert was offered - we should have declined. Remarkably, they charged us for the Tea we ordered with dessert. We did not exit the restaurant until 9:30 PM, all because service was so bad. We all felt ripped off by the experience. I will not go to this restaurant again.

Every meal is delicious!

By Robin M |

No matter what you eat here, you will not be disappointed! The aesthetics of the place are great too. The only downside is the wait on weekends - which speaks to how good the place is!

Terrific Service, fresh, local food, Great breakfast.

By Rena Matison G |

This is a wonderful place to sit have latte and breakfast before you head off to Columbia University or any activities in the area. The personnel are so accommodating. Feel free to catch up on your paper work and not feel rushed.

Excellent for Brunch-not good for any other meal

By Amelia E |

I have been here for Brunch/breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. This is definitely a brunch place. Excellent Brunch and bloody mary's, very disappoint lunches and dinners.

Very disappointing

By RinNYC |

The food was mediocre to bad. Cold scallion pancake with hardened edges. Tasteless veggie burger. Mixed green salad was so old that the edges of the leaves were black and slimy. Service was friendly, but the server disappeared for long stretches of time. They charged $2 to substitute the (inedible) salad for the fries that come w the veggie burger. The price was high considering how poor the food was ($51 for 1 appetizer, 2 entrees, no drinks or dessert). Won’t be going back.

Seinfeld should have crossed the street

By HarveyL759 |

Jerry Seinfeld and friends famously ate in an anonymous (on the program) restaurant, whose exterior ("Restaurant") is across Broadway from Community. They should have crossed the street! I found the food and service to be excellent, specifically delicious huevos rancheros and freshly squeezed orange juice, everything organic, free range, locally sourced, etc. The menu selection is fairly broad, satisfying a range of appetites. Breakfast at Community was a pleasant experience that I hope to repeat on my next visit to Morningside Heights.

Between students and teachers

By Micheltravel |

One of the best blueberry pancakes I ever had at this lively place, around the corner of Columbia University. Also had good eggs benedict. Long tables inside, a bit noisy maybe, but hey, lots of students. Outdoor seating possible too.

Great place near Columbia U in a food desert.

By annbury |

This is a place that we go to frequently as we are addicted to the new music at the Miller Theater. This time I had the scallops with grits and scallions, which were perfectly cooked and delicious and my wife had a bowl of mussels, which were good. To start we split a kale salad which was quite good and then i had a yummy lemon tart for dessert. Once more, we got there pretty early (6ish) but if you come later than 630 or 645 you will have to wait.

Close to Columbia University

By BobtheBuilder39 |

Chopped salad was the best ever. We enjoyed pumpkin and squash ravioli, rice bowl with chicken and a hamburger. The hamburger was average. The rest was very good. We will return.

Very good

By Araja O |

You can taste the quality ingredients that go into each plate here. Although not bursting with flavor, the tastes are good. Some of the young servers are not sure where to be when they are not actively serving and one hovered around our table making conversation rather difficult.

Early Bird Breakfast.

By Bjorn O |

This is one of the more effective ways to get a Columbia student out of bed. Between 8 and 9 they serve their Pancake speciall with orange juice and coffee for § 12 a fantastic value. Later another day I had their vegetable Eggs Benedict and that was disappointing. But my student grandson told me that most of their dishes are quite good. Service is fast even when the place is full.

Two visits in three days...loved our breakfast and brunch

By gosaka |

It just worked out that eating here twice in three days was both convenient and enjoyable. Once was with the breakfast menu and then a Sunday brunch. It's great to see their standards augmented by daily seasonal specials. At brunch I had a salmon "Benedict" served on potato pancakes (a special). What a great combination! I also had their special cranberry margarita. I normally don't go in for these flavored cocktails but this was a winner. I've rated Community more highly than in the past due to the wonderful experiences we had.

Excellent farm fresh and delicious food

By Reagan2015 |

We love Community; it is a regular treat night restaurant for us. Casual, locally sourced and several outstanding dishes: warm lentils, kale salad, market vegetables and rice bowl w grilled salmon especially good. House Cocktails are just fair and wine is fine.

Very good food but service was uneven

By HappyTraveler1957 |

Had brunch here on a cold wintry day. Sat inside. Restaurant seemed to be attentive to COVID protocols. The food was great. The service was uneven however. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive but another waiter literally pushed one of our party aside as we were entering the restaurant. Guess he was in a hurry to get in the door! Quite rude. Never apologized.

Stick to brunch at brunch

By cliffhanger202 |

Community Food & Juice generally delivers a solid meal but my most recent experience with a group of friends was rather lacking. I ordered the grass fed burger medium rare and instead received a very well done, dry, bland burger. The server did ask if I'd like another one but we had already waited a good bit for our food so it wasn't worth it at that point (there was no further gesture made by the restaurant to correct what was a really poor dish). Perhaps I should have ordered more traditional brunch fare, as the rest of our table ordered a variety of dishes and seemed to enjoy their meals. Generally the atmosphere is fun and relaxed and a great place to enjoy a meal with groups of any size.

Good for a local Upper, Upper West Side Meal

By dobdobdobdob |

Community is a great place for a quick bite and mellow atmosphere. I have tried most of their regular dishes and their portions are decent but have never left thinking "wow, that was great!" It's a decent burger. The fish specials are usually good too. Medium

TOP place to go!

By Rob Ord |

Foodies, hold on to your belt because you are going to eat so much you will have to loose it up! This place is one of my favorites on the UWS! Super yummy!

Brunch

By NTEvents |

Visited community Food and Juice whilst staying in NYC with a friend. She had recommendation we visit there for their healthy brunches. We were not disappointed. Portions were perfect, coffee was good and the juice was too. There is plenty to choose from on their menu, from vegan to vegetarian and standard food. I went for the veggie scramble, which as delicious and made my insides feel healthy again after an 8 hour flight from the UK with plane food. I can see why my friend and all her Columbia school friends visit most days for lunch and would love something like this in the UK!

Across from Columbia U. Perfectly broiled sea bass. Service exceptional.

By Itmatistous |

I was there on July 4. Restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seating. Wimpy out of towner, I went inside for the delicious air conditioning. Amanda was my server and she was charming and gliding around to her tables efficiently. I ordered the specials of the day: Yellow tomato gazpacho (smoothly pureed, tangy, well seasoned) and the sea bass on a bed of spinach and green beans. When fish is cooked right, it is heavenly and this dish was moist and very flavorful. I enjoyed every mouthful of both. Since I was having a wonderful time, I stayed for dessert and had coffee with their caramel pudding. Sweet yet chewy--what a surprise! Please go to Community Food and Juice for a relaxing and delightful dinner..

Great NYE dinner

By StephenCWard |

Four adults and two toddlers enjoyed a great early dinner on NYE. Very well-made cocktails and well executed fresh and imaginative food. Zucchini-scallion pancakes were a lovely starter, but beaten by the tuna. The roasted chicken was exactly as it should be: crisp skin, juicy flesh Accompanied by roasted veg. Staff were just lovely and looked after us wonderfully. A cool, relaxed place with high standards.

Great for a late breakfast/brunch

By Paul S |

Fourteen of us gather the morning after a family wedding including vegans. Everyone found something they liked and it was very good. Good flow of coffee (Good tasting decaf!) and pleasant service. I splurged with the brioche French toast with raspberries and a honey lemon & butter syrup. Light and delicious . With a few tweaks the veggie sandwich with spring mesclun lettuces was great for the vegans. Others had traditional breakfasts, eggs Benedict with and without spinach, pancakes etc. All the food was excellent. A benefit of the beautiful weather was outdoor tables - being Sunday there was no active construction.

Clean and delicious foods!

By Barbie M |

My friend and I visited Community Food & Juice on a Saturday morning. The place was packed but we were seated quickly. The food was great. Everything was so fresh and made to perfection. We ordered blueberry pancakes, two eggs, bacon, toast, cheddar/bacon omelette, and hash browns. .. the oj and coffee was great. My friend ordered the blackberry Bellini and loved it.

Loved it

By Lisey26 |

My family and I had a late breakfast/early lunch here and we loved everything. The food was delicious and for New York this place is not too pricy. Only thing, the queue to order and the one to get your food are the same and a bit confusing.

Delicious.

By MissyMel100 |

There's always a crowd for a reason. Delicious, organic and locally sourced food, creative cocktails, great beer and wine selections. You'll have to wait an hour for brunch here... BUT when the Columbia students leave town (summer, spring break, winter holidays) you can get a table without a wait. Try the B.E.L.T. and pretty much anything on the brunch menu. So good.

Brunch in Harlem: best pancakes ever

By Stefania R |

We ve been here twice: first time 4 years ago, second time was yesterday. In fact, during these 4 years we thought many times about their pancakes! We think they are the best in city, at least for what we tried! Both times we ate very good!!! sitting on the sun, with a hot cup of coffee and blueberries pancakes to share (we also got 2 more amazing plates) while Colombia's students are studying next to you was a great experience: we felt new yorkers! Amazing place!

Excellent

By Boozer78 |

We went to this restaurant for lunch. The atmosphere is very nice with a maximum of students from the University of Colombia which is right in front. I had a salmon Pokémon bowl. I enjoyed it. It is organic, fresh, good and well presented. We then shared panecakes - the best of my life. This is an address to remember

good food and atmosphere, but...

By MattClaire097 |

Food is tasty and fresh, service is friendly and efficient, however the place is way too noisy (in certain tables there is no way to have a conversation) and they don't take reservations for small groups. This makes 20/30 minutes waits almost inevitable.

Worth the Trip! You will enjoy this Experience!

By Robert S |

We visited this resturant at our New York daughters' suggestion. Sam was our server and he was exceptional! The food was also exceptional! We all tried different dishes on the menu and each was flavorful. We enjoyed a great evening. We will return on our next visit. You must make the trip uptown to try this delicious resturant!

Nothing to write home about.

By Morningsider |

Most of what this restaurant has going for it is its great location on Broadway near the University, and it’s comfortable and stylish dining room. Beyond that... I’d recommend giving it a miss. The food is fine, the service is quick and friendly, but everything is much more expensive than at similar spots nearby. If price is no object, by all means go here and you’ll have a fine experience, but you can get a much better meal at a similar price at either Le Monde or Mill Korean without even leaving the block.

I read trip advisor and I confirm the rating! Very Good place in Upper West side of Manhatten.

By fld40230 |

Ate there based on notes for Trip Advisor and I agree that it is a great place to dine. A friend and I ate dinner here. The food and service was very good and professional. The manager came to the table to ask if all was fine. The food was local, healthful and delicious! The decor was very modern and the atmosphere was peaceful and quiet enough to talk with my friend. I have recommended Community Food and juice to several people. Close to Columbia and Barnard College in a safe area of Upper West side Manhattan.

I Won't Go Back

By Rose_Kavalier |

This is the second time I have tried brunch at this restaurant and now I can say that I will never go back with certainty! The eggs benedict florentine with artichokes was not good and the eggs over easy with hash brown potatoes was not good. The eggs were practically raw!

Breakfast with our Pups

By MDesi118 |

Last Saturday we had breakfast at Community. We were 3 adults with 2 dogs and they sat us outside and brought a bowl of water for our pups- which was very thoughtful. I had the Greek Yogurt with granola, fruits, berries and honey. Absolutely delicious! My fiancée got the Pancakes with Blueberry on top and my friend got the Country Breakfast. Please note that it comes with carrot hash browns- which is not the norm but still very tasty. The waiter was attentive even though they were busy. I’ve had breakfast around the neighborhood and I have to say this is one of the tastier meals I’ve enjoyed. Will gladly return to Community.

In Typical New York Fashion

By Bryant |

Slammed at the large table "communal style" with everyone else. But hey, this is New York. The food is great, especially the Mac n Cheese to start with. Service on the most part is great. Although it took our server 20 minutes to bring us the check (I think she was clearly triple sat). But at least our food and drinks came out on time and as planned from someone directly from the kitchen who was always so nice and knew exactly where everything went. They even heard that we were celebrating a birthday and threw in a candle at the end with the dessert. Props to them. I would say try to get a table outside because you are dining by yourself. Inside it can be left up to the masses...but that is kind of the fun part anyways. Great for families visiting near Columbia.

If you are looking for bad attitude

By DASBarcelona |

If you are looking for bad attitude - look no further. You gotta love a place that thinks their better than their clientele

Very nice and not too expensive

By Mariana Z |

It's a great place for healthy yummy food, specially for a brunch. There are good options for vegetarian and gluten-free dishes, and service is very nice. I usually go there for some eggs benedict or a fresh salad.

Amazing Pancakes!

By nychill68 |

Order the Blueberry Pancakes! You won't be disappointed. I also recommend the french toast and daily waffle (it changes each week).

A lot of food does not make for good food

By Tayfun U |

Perhaps only in America. The portions are huge the taste is basically missing. Would have preferred half the portion size with some taste in the omelette.

Perfect for Brunch

By vanessamH9838HY |

We have been here on a Saturday for brunch, because we have heard so much about it. We had to wait 40 minutes to be seated, which was ok as it was a nice day outside. The food is great, the best pancakes I ever had so far. We ordered a BELT and wanted it without bacon and with avocado instead. Unfortunately, they are not very flexible and difficult, but as long as you pay for your additional wishes no problem. In fact, we liked the food so much that we returned another day. Sad to find out that the menu is not the same on weekdays as it is on the weekend.

Good place for breakfast and brunch

Our son recommended having breakfast there and we were not disappointed. I had the country breakfast and my wife had the fruit side dish. The country breakfast are two eggs, bacon (instead of ham), potatoes with carrots and a biscuit. The place is a bit noisy and crowded but the staff was very prompt and courteous. I I had a chance to return I would like to try the pancakes, looking at the people next to us eating them, they looked very moist and tasty. It's a bit expensive for us coming from smaller towns but may be the ongoing prices at NYC

Sunday Brunch

I ordered the Florentine eggs Benedict. The eggs were practically raw, the pieces of artichokes were inedible (the choke left in and what remained was inedible). The service was good.

Fabulous breakfast!

We were seated expeditiously, and the staff was kind and courteous- neither a given in such a busy place. Went looking for vegetarian and vegan options near Barnard/Columbia but not expecting anything special. We were quite pleasantly surprised, however, to be served a very fresh and exceptional meal. Too often, breakfast is rather one dimensional; however, this one stood out as flavorful, not punishingly heavy and yet satisfying. Juice was also quite good. Great meal- and they served and checked us out efficiently enough for us to make it to a morning appointment.

Nice reliable food and service

Nice option for brunch or lunch. I find they always have the nicest wait staff and the food does not disappoint.

Comfortable uptown brasserie welcoming to families

The name of the place confers something else entirely. You might arrive expecting to find a stark make-it-yourself muesli bar run by a cooperative, or some other faddist magnet for nearby Columbia students. Instead, this is a sophisticated farm-to-table operation with a few entrees, desserts, interesting craft beer and wine options, and understated professional service. Great food in a wonderful neighborhood spot.

Impeccable taste

I have the duck dish, that despite of being a highly flavored meat, one can still taste the flavor of each of the the herb and all. Great food.

Good vibe and close to Columbia

Although this place has a far and wide reputation for the best brunch in town, we figured that we'd try it for dinner, so as to avoid the crowds. They have a real bargain beer-and-burger special for $15 between 5-7PM, so we did that. Lots of good choices on tap and excellent quality burgers on a delicious dome-shaped bun, with all the trimmings - cheese, bacon, onions, fries. Considering there is no shortage of good burger places (and not so good, and mediocre too) around the university, this place is a standout for freshness and quality of ingredients and friendly service.

Best french toast I have ever had

By Pat |

My meal here was the highlight of my day. The brioche french toast was so flavorful and the syrup accompanying it made it 10x better. The carrot hashbrowns, though not originally what I expected, were also really delicious. I sat at the bar and the bartender was very friendly and responsive. Will go again!

Good place for lunch near Columbia

This is a relatively new restaurant near Columbia (next door to Le Monde). It features organic/healthy food, but you can also get a burger and fries. Full of Columbia students and quite trendy people (bearing in mind that this is the Upper West Side) and is a great addition to the neighborhood. Portion sizes are a little erratic. The kale salad was excellent but on the small side, but the chicken sandwich, also excellent, was quite big. But I'm not complaining...just ask your server about sizes. Service is friendly and good.

Great food and excellent service.

We have been to Community Restaurnt on several occasions and their food and service is consistently good. We would recommend Community if you're in the neighborhood or not. Enjoy!
