This is not the place for small appetites or people who want to try a variety of foods. A two-appetizer-dinner costs just as much as a dinner plate. Items of note: Frito-pie, chicken-fried-steak and the margaritas. OBTW, do not fill up on their chips and bean-salsa (aka Texas caviar dip).

Had a few drinks pretty good good size place for ny had party of 14 good times. Food was ordered and came out quickly pretty good food staff is nice good eats will be back

Decent casual venue, service is pleasant. No reservations needed. If you want a big helping of comfort food, this is it. Not a healthy venue but you can find a couple of somewhat healthy items on the menu. Kitschy decor. Not expensive. Not memorable.

Visited with a friend as we wanted to sit outside and watch the free street entertainment (NYC on a Friday evening!). Very friendly service brought me chicken fried steak with mashed taties and corn with red pepper chunks. All cooked and served just-right, and tasted delicious. They had a large selection of drinks, a decent range of beers on tap inside at a lively bar.

The great news is it is a funky and fun place. Thanksgiving dinner was so-so for the others, any my mushroom ravioli was just adequate. Pricey prix fixe for what I got. However, that being said, the desserts, and especially the pumpkin pie with gingerbread crust was lovely. Please consider your menu...

Like everything in Texas, their portions are HUGE. Do yourself a favor and share everything on the table. Honorable mentions to the following items on their menu: Frito pie, chicken fried chicken, chicken fried steak and the frozen baked potato.

Back in the 80s I used to love coming here with friends and enjoy the margaritas of Saturday night. Since Covid, I love having brunch outside on Hudson street. The service here is always terrific. The food is good and the beers are cold…and if you sit outside, you might see a celebrity or two walking by. This place is a classic. Check out the gift shop!

The vibe here is Western Dude Ranch, but the food is good and the staff is pleasant and efficient. The genre is Tex-Mex, and the quantities are big. Excellent cocktails, especially the margaritas; free chips and bean dip; filling main courses. It's our default restaurant when we don't want to go far, but just want to be taken care of.

Came here our first night in NY with our 6 year old. Great place for families with comfort food galore and fun, laid back atmosphere. I love the vegetarian chili and the corn bread. The complimentary chips and bean dip was delicious.

Thirteen of us wanted to escape from busy Midtown, and took out to Hudson street where this gem resturant is located. The athmosphere is fantastic and packed with typical american icons like a pin ball machine from the 60ies, big-horns, lollipops and dressed up dolls in the windows taking us back to the 50ies and 60ies. Delicious frozen margueritas got the party started and the friendly staff guided us through the menue - all ending up with a meal never to be forgotten. The huge menu definitely lived up to our expectations. Well done to all of you at Cowgirl - whenever we get the chance to visit NYC again we'll be there!

This place makes the best drinks, and their appetizers are truly one of a kind. Love going to this place

During a recent visit I stayed at a friend's apartment in West Village. I wandered one morning in search of breakfast and stumbled upon Cowgirl. Luckily I had arrived before 11 a.m. (when breakfast prices are cheap). I had eggs, hash browns and buttermilk pancakes. The food was average, but the service was friendly and the place is really cute (and deceivingly large). I loved the bottomless cup of coffee and no one rushed me to leave. I also visited on the weekend and the prices are much higher as they only serve brunch. So go mid-week and before 11 a.m.

This was recommended to me by a coworker for our family trip to NYC. The decor is kind of cool. Very kitschy. Lots of old Western memorabilia. No one in our family was too impressed with the food. I had the ribs and they were ok. Not a bad place, but nothing special.

I had an awful experience on Sunday (Aug 29, 2021) when we were planning to have brunch at this place to show our friends -who just landed from abroad- what a typical Sunday brunch was about. As we arrived there, my friends (a couple) and myself were approached by this hostess who in a neutral way asked me "How can I help you?" I explained we needed a table for 4 people and that my husband was parking around the corner and he'll be here soon. She said dryly, "when he arrives, let me know." As I noticed several tables were available and it didn't make any difference a table for 3 or 4, I asked, "Do you mind if we sit and start ordering?" It was a very hot day and we were parched. She said, "when the 4th person arrived, I'll give you the table. That's how it works." At this point, she wasn't polite anymore. I was already embarrassed about my friends looking at this, and trying not to make a bigger scene I insisted calmly, I don't understand why you can't give us a table now. She turned around raising her voice and said, I already explained why and now you know why and shut the restaurant door in my face. My husband arrived a minute later, and I said, let's go somewhere else please. My friends -visiting from another country as I said earlier- could not believe what had just happened. And me neither to be honest. I had good times in that place in the past. But that hostess was the most awful experience I ever had in a restaurant. It's incredible how a moment that was supposed to be great and fun can be ruined by someone who has no idea or love about their job. This is also the first time ever I write a negative review about a place. I usually decide not to come back.

Visited Cowgirl for the first time with my brother, who has been there regularly. Absolutely terrific food - there were four of us and all the meals were great. Servers were very friendly, and it definitely felt like you were going "where everybody knows your name". Had a great time and would go again.

I go here for the southern leaning food, especially the pulled pork sandwich with tater tots. All the food I've had here has been really good. The decor with all the cowgirl photos is fun. Great place to take out of town guests. Only drawback is that it's very, very loud if you're there and it's crowded.

Eclectic decor. Fast service. Good selection of southern favourites (my Dallas raised wife loved it). Children enjoyed their meals and the root beer float was enjoyed by adults alike. I haven’t had PBR in a while!

It seems like this restaurant is having a bit of an identity crisis. It doesn't know if it wants to be a diner, a southwest taco spot, a bbq joint, or an American restaurant. The menu is quirky and fun. My friends and I got the veggie burger, the Sloppy Jolene, the nachos, and the burrito. The food was just so-so. The service was super slow for NYC, and our waiter appeared to forget about us and had trouble remembering the items we ordered. We had to remind him several times, and once he brought marinara sauce instead ketchup, likely due to a major language barrier. With all of the options in New York, I would recommend dining elsewhere. This place was overpriced and the service sucked. I was really rooting for it to be good, too!

Every. Single. Time. I get to NYC, I get to the Cowgirl. This time it was for taco specials and sangria. Last time, enchiladas. Time before that, Frito pie. I left NYC with only one regret: I forgot to order the artichoke fritters. This place is great. No snooty factor, friendly staff, off the beaten path and always great eats.

Totally disappointing! Made a reservation for 9pm for 9ppl on Friday night. Upon arrival I asked if they can add a 10th person and they said yes. They asked if we were all there and I said 9ppl are and to tell them when the 10th arrives since they don’t seat incomplete tables. The 10th came 9:05pm and they said they’d get the table ready. We were seated at 9:45pm!!!! WTF?!?! If you’re gonna tell people you won’t seat an incomplete party then seat them when they are complete!

Love their margaritas so we got a pitcher. Their ribs are to kill for. Burgers are regular and good. Service is excellent. It’s a must every time we’re in NYC.

Nice and something else than the other. Great location, frindly staff. But the food was not worth the money. There is so much good to eat in NY, this is not one of theese.

Of all the eating establishments in the 5 block radius, Cowgirl has the most diversified menu to accomodate parties of various diet restrictions. It's reasonably priced. Among their memorable items on the menu: Frito pie, frozen "baked potato" sundae, and jalapeno poppers.

The place is cool and the service is nice but if you are any hungry you're better off going somewhere else! These are the smallest portions I've had in similar places in this part of the city.

Not horribly bad, but everything was less good than in other restaurants in the Village. Slow service, really bland food. Not good value for money.

We stopped here for a late night snack. The drinks were strong, the catfish was amazing, and the atmosphere was really cute! Service was quick and courteous.

The chicken fried chicken and the burrito we had were very good, as were the accompanying veggies. The location in the Village and the atmosphere are a plus.

Summer or winter , always a place to meet up and enjoy a southern style meal with tons of frozen margaritas.. and half price drinks daily.. full menu of all kinds of dishes you could imagine.. and chips and black eye bean salad on the house ! those 20 pieces of wings are great as starters and or a whole meal. Cowgirl’s Smoked BBQ Baby Back Ribs served with mashed potatoes.. yum. Fried Catfish Salad are the best for the see'..lol food lovers.. freshly battered and hot on pile of greens.. a simpler , Chicken Fried Chicken it great for a light eater lover.. i could go on and on..every meal is put together perfectly and if you wano change something around like you are in your own kitchen . just ask .. enjoy !!!!!!

Loved this place and plan to go back again while here in NYC. Fun western decor and really good fun. They have interesting drinks too. Try the "baked potato" ice cream dessert.

What a treasure in the West Village... the best comfort food in NYC! Not a bad item on the menu. A little away from the main part of Greenwich Village, but close to the High Line and other cool areas.

Food is OK. Drinks are good, with an excellent range of tequilas and tasty frozen margarita. Chicken-fried steak was a little soggy, but otherwise good. A comfort food place and one of the rare ones in New York where you can get south Texan cuisine.

Nice place in the middle of West Village, family friendly and delicious food. Crowded for drinks a bit later, I would love to go back

Loads of choice of food, drink, good decor and excellent service. Walking through Greenwich this place was recommended as somewhere to eat and fun so we tried it and weren't disappointed, it was great. Service was excellent & food great. They even offer a happy hour.

Married friends of mine live on Hudson and wanted to get together for dinner. They wanted to go to Cowgirl-I had never been so off we went. We were seated immediately and water arrived at the table. Menus were presented. My friends both ordered cokes and I decided to stick with the water. Cowgirl is two storefronts put together and decorated in a very funky style. The menu is southern, barbeque, tex mex and even cajun. Appetizers, salads, burgers, fried chicken, vegetarian options, a fajita bar [that option looked great] numerous options for sides, desserts and drinks. There is a large cocktail menu as well. As you walk in, there is a large bar-off to one side are tables and towards the back are tables as well. There was a large room that was not being used and was probably utilized for private parties. The restroom is located downstairs and was clean and well maintained. Getting back to the menu, it was difficult to make a choice. I ended up getting the Cowgirl burger medium well which came with lettuce, tomato, onion and pickles. I opted for a slice of American cheese as well. There are other burger toppings you can choose from [bacon, grilled onions, sauteed mushrooms, etc.] which cost extra. The burger came with french fries or tater tots-I opted from the tater tots. There were quite a few of them along with a small vat of coleslaw-on the drier side which was great. Mustard and ketchup were included. The waitress was extremely pleasant, perky and very accommodating and stopped by to see how I was doing. I would recommend and return-my friends made an excellent choice.

I have eaten at cowgirl many times. The food is always good I’ve been there on Sunday afternoons Friday nights.. My favorite is the fried chicken and mashed potatoes oh so good. Sometimes you may have to wait for a table but Worth the wait.

Love their margaritas so we got a pitcher. Their ribs are to kill for. Burgers are regular and good. Service is excellent. It’s a must every time we’re in NYC.

Busy place but excellent service. BBQ and great fried chicken. Appetizers are very good. Rattlesnake bites, bacon wrapped jalapeño peppers unique. Nachos well dressed. Ribs a bit disappointing, not fall off the bone! The baked potatoe ice cream dessert also unique and enough for at least 2. Cowgirl pilsner smooth. Very kid friendly and fun for them! Although arcade games were not working!

It had been about 10 years since I was last at Cowgirl so, on a recent trip to NYC, we were in the neighborhood and decided to stop for dinner. It has not changed at all. As usual, it was busy and had a good vibe. It is definitely dated and the food, while not anything special, is consistent and good. Worth a stop if only for a snack.

Cowgirls is a decent spot to come AFTER you've been drinking. Not a huge fan of their drinks or food given I'm sort of a conscious eater so "Chicken Fried Steak" or "Black Eyed Peas Salsa Dip" doesn't appeal to me. However, "All Chopped Up" is my absolute FAVORITE dish! It has: romain lettuce, grilled chicken, bacon, sliced green apples, walnuts, shaved cheese, avocado w/lemon poppy seed dressing which can be served on the side. This dish is A-Maze-Balls. Been a fan for more than five years and it's still the best salad on the freakin' planet.

Fun place for brunch. The service was a little slow at times, but the food was very good. I had pancakes, which I don't eat very often, and they were delicious.

Showed up on a Friday night around 8 with four kids and three adults. Place was packed withy many waiting, told us it would be thirty minutes but got us a table in 10. Food was good, nothing amazing, very filling. Good cocktails but expensive. Enjoyed the atmosphere.

First time visiting the Cowgirl. Ordered beer and their margarita. The margarita is supposed to be something special and it was good, but $11. Ok, it was good, but that's a hotel bar price. Got the fried catfish fingers with coleslaw. Came with jalapeno tarter sauce. It was awesome! The best part of the visit. Everything else was ok.

This is the best place for good atmosphere and cheap prices. The plates were really good and big even though the prices were quite low compared to many other places in the city. It was possible to sit on cosy tables outside as well as you could enjoy the people and atmosphere at nice tables inside. I really want to come back here.

...and loved the very cozy retro atmosphere that made us think we had walked back suddenly to the 80's and Stonewall... A fixture in the Village, well worth a visit by anyone visiting who wanted to step back in time. Good cocktail..

Of all the restaurants in the area, we chose Cowgirl, which was good for us. Upon entering the decor is western with photographs throughout. The staff was friendly, and we were taken to our table. The sitting room at the table is tight especially for larger and or taller people. The brisket burger was very good, and the platter came with fries, lettuce, pickles, tomato, and homemade slaw. The others in my party had burgers and salad and all enjoyed heir meals. The location is clean, staff was friendly but the bathrooms are downstairs and would be a hard access for disabled/handicap people.

A very special countrified New York hot spot. Down home cooking, hospitality, ambience and fabulous memorabilia. Desserts are sinful and they stir wonderful concoctions at the bar. Be sure to check out each room, visit the photo booth and introduce your self to Elisa, David and Michele. Don't miss the gift shop! Excellent after a show quiet spot!

Wow have ordered cowgirl 47 times in the last 5 years always happy with the food and service. That was until tonight ordered half rack of ribs and coleslaw which I love. The ribs were inedible I understand there is a lot going on in nyc but that these ribs made it out the door to serve a customer astounds me please don’t let this happen again. I mean they were like a rock I could not even bite into them. Since I love your food I will give you another chance just wanted to let you know how disappointed I was with this meal.

I've been visiting Cowgirl for many years. I used to live in New York. Cowgirl sponsored my best friend's softball team several years ago. It was the team's hangout after a game. When my partner and I moved to Asia, we twice told our New York area friends to meet us at Cowgirl for an afternoon of drinking and catching up. On this occasion in early June, a large group of us arrived on a Saturday mid afternoon. My other best friend from uni drove up with her family. There were nine of us, adults and children. We did not have a reservation. In the past, you could just roll up to Cowgirl. But Cowgirl has become even more popular. You go Cowgirl! We were nearly turned away, but the friendly staff were able to squeeze us all in, and at a great table too. We all grew up in Texas. Cowgirl has queso! I live in London now. There is NO queso in London. Three quesos were ordered. Guac. Nachos. I'm happy to have solid Tex Mex and Southern food when I'm back in New York. Thank you. Shout out to our friendly server from Alabama. We were a large group and she was kind, professional, funny and patient. We'll all continue to visit Cowgirl. There maybe other restaurants on Hudson, but there is only one Cowgirl. This is a perfect location for gay and lesbian couples with children.

I have been to Cowgirl for Brunch on a Sunday ! The food is great ! Nice selection ! The drinks are awesome and the staff is very attentive and friendly ! Always a good choice !

While walking around Manhattan on Father's Day we stopped in front of Cowgirl's and looked at the menu. It looked interesting so we decided to give it a try.My daughter and son ordered the BBQ Beef on a bun, which was good but some of the meat was chewy. The portion was large and tasty. My wife ordered the chicken fried steak which was good but lacked seasoning.I ordered the chicken fried chicken which was also good but lacked seasoning as well. I would go back to try something else, perhaps something from the brunch menu, because like I said the menu items are interesting. The staff is friendly and attentive. Thanks Cowgirl for the free beer on Father's Day

To survive as a restaurant in NYC for more than 5 years is a miracle...but to be here for over 20! Well, that's heavenly when it's applied to the Cowgirl Hall of Fame. Here you can get your homestyle, homespun fried chicken fix, alongside a hearty salad. Couple that with their generous drinks...and that out-of-this-world awesome baked potato ice-cream treat and you'll understand their longevity. And for us NYers who knew them back in the day...being able to return to their particular variation on homestyle fun is just that. And a pleasure!

We found the cowgirl while wandering around West Village. The burgers where ok, but not the best I've ever eaten.

Sat on the patio for drinks and ended up eating an early dinner. Food was very good, South West/Mexican. Sangria and Margaritas were great. Happy hour 50% deal on a hot day made it easy to stay a long time. Really calm and comfortable, easy to forget you are in NYC.Friendly staff.

A restaurant that displays a picture of Patsy Cline on the way to the toilet. Need I say more? Oh, the food is great too, plentiful and tasty, the bloody Mary is the best I ever had and if you’re lucky you can sit outside in the sun. I highly recommend this place for a unique experience, somebody for most people to enjoy!

My friend and I visited Cowgirl for brunch on a Saturday. The staff were really friendly and managed to fit us in straight away even though it was busy. The frozen margaritas are awesome and the food was pretty good too. It's also really reasonably priced. I loved the western decor and theme and would definitely go back.

Cowgirl is a fantastic restaurant with great service and food. There staff is super quick and attentive. The food comes out super quick and is always tasty and full of flavor. Cowgirl has a kids menu which is great. It's packed with grilled cheeses and corndogs. My kids go crazy over them. It is a total family restaurant. Come to cowgirl

We ate dinner here on a Friday evening. Service was good and good buzzy atmosphere. Although the meals were large portions, the quality was better than expected for the price. We drank a pitcher of Margaritas ($50), and would recommend the hanger steak, smoked chicken and whisky pork chops. All excellent. Some of the vegetables way overcooked. The vegie chilli lacked chilli! Would go again for a casual meal.

Tex-Mex in the Big Apple? We thought this might be a problem, but the choice was good. Who would'a thunk? Staff friendly. We arrived early, so we were able to be away from others, as the bar is crowded, but the restaurant side not so much. Menu is accessed by QR code. Small but good list of wines and beers. They both had the Mac and cheese, which was a generous serving with salad. We shared their roasted corn on the cob, which was unusual and tasty. I had chicken enchiladas, came with black beans and rice. Food was not very spicy, but that is expected for NY, but it was tasty and well-presented. A very filling meal, just enough room for coffee. A nice find.

We needed a quick bite to eat after several beers and Cowgirl is the place to grab that menu and make it fit the bill. We ordered water, lots of water for me and ice tea to hydrate, the Frito Beef Brisket nachos and 20 piece wings. The Frito beef brisket sounds weird but it is so darn delicious. Love it. I just wish it was in a bigger Frito bag. The wings arrived, only ten of the 20 and they were cooked well and they had the perfect amount of sauce and they were delicious. The second set of ten wings, the cook or waiter must have entered our order incorrectly arrived there after and they were a bit undercooked and just not a savory. The take away here is, if you (the kitchen or waiter) screwed up, don't rush the fix so it comes out screwed up as well. That is the reason for the average rating.

Tried this place as a result of a positive guide book review - and glad we did! We enjoyed the walk from the subway to the restaurant (getting lost along the way which was fine too!) through a colourful and fun neighbourhood. I really enjoyed the food - and my family did too. Good kids options (they had burgers, chicken strips). I had the chicken / rib combo and it was huge and perfectly cooked. Even with giving my kids a bunch of the ribs I was stuffed. My wifes chopped salad was excellent - added chicken. I originally ordered and draft beer and it was a little flat / stale, so the waitress removed it, no questions asked and I was happy trying a coney island brew. Very quick service. A little dark inside but overall we were happy with the experience.

After walking along the Hudson from Battery Park to Cowgirl the Margaritas tasted really good. Their other food is also pretty good. We especially like their nachos, salsa and guacamole. We were there twice on this trip and hope to be back next time we're in town.

Don't go for the food. Cold mac and cheese with no flavor, brisket chili nothing but fat, totally gross. Is there a real "cook" in the kitchen?? Did not seem so. Really awful food. Sweet server who did not have a clue.

I rarely write reviews. so this is to hopefully help an establishment I have adored for years. the service and atmosphere are casual and inviting. The food however is uneven. Several of the dining mates had the chicken fried chicken/steak and loved it. I had the catfish po boy and I must say that I could only compare it to when you get the not so fresh crumbly bread and soft mush filet o fish sandwich from mc Donalds. another member of the party had the chicken fajitas... there are far too many notes to give on that one. lets just say flavorless. this establishment does well what it does well. stay clear of all other food.

Good happy hour, cool atmosphere. friendly service. Great selection of beers and their sangria isn't bad even though it comes out of what looked like a milk 1 gallon jug! ha!

Really fun night with yummy food, good value and service, fun drinks, atmosphere. Had a really good time. Four stars because the meat was dry. I think they must pre cook earlier in the day and leave heating to make sure it comes out quickly. I would've preferred waiting a little longer to not have dry meat. Otherwise perfect.

Can't go wrong with the myriad of choices on the menu- you can cater to a multitude of tastes! Especially the younger set. But they do make a good margarita as well! The servers are all friendly and very accomodating. There areplacemats with stuff to keep everyone busy. It is lefectly fine for adukts alone as well!

I have been enjoying this west village standard for 25 years and it still delivers on both fun and quality. The portions are huge and the food is delicious. The new live music in the back room is a delight. I hope to continue going for the next 25 years.

I’ve been coming here for probably 20 years. Largest barbed wire collection this side of the Mississippi! I like their style and I like their food. Who wouldn’t love Frito Pie? Last time was good but not up to par for them. Not ready to abandon them, but will think twice.

We wandered by here and they happened to have a great table on the patio. Which was nice because the inside seems a bit tired. I'm ok with Americana kitsch but it feels like it's overstayed its welcome. The beer and lime soda were great. The guacamole seemed oily and gelatinous. The chips were too plain tasting. The dandelion salad was missing the listed candied pecans and sunflower seeds and had a fair bit of wilted and brown lettuce. As nice as they were to us, I wouldn't come back.

We stopped in for dinner per a local/friend who lives within walking distance. There were 3 of us and we ordered the fajitas and enchiladas, which was plenty. With an entree you get a bowl of chips and a bean based salsa. No free refills on the chips and salsa. The atmosphere was fun and upbeat. The HH was just on the drinks. There are cute donkey drink markers.

The food was amazing. The iced drinks were out of this world. Good menu for vegetarians but also for meat lovers. The choice is for everyone. The portions were huge.

We visited after a long day sightseeing. My fussy twins literally devoured their corn dogs a definite recommendation. The food was faultless and the service was excellent. The biggest highlight was the bar recommendation. My husband was recommended a beer that he loved and the recommended blood orange margarita was the best ever. A lovely dining experience.

I stopped by looking for coffee and I was in a hurry! The friendly server brought me coffee and a half order of biscuits within seconds! Relaxed, casual neighborhood place with a fun theme and decorations. Recommended!

I used to live in the West Village from 1995-2009, but I never stepped foot in Cowgirl until today, March 2025! The restaurant group was apart of Tortilla Flats, Sugar Reef and Gulf Coast, all of whom had closed. We came as a family and had a late brunch, they sat us by the window and the radiator was emanating too much heat and was able to move towards the back. We shared the Guac & Chips, their guacamole was really good and the chips came out warm! My daughter had the salad with shrimp, my wife had the black bean quesadilla and I had their blackened catfish po’boy. All tasted really good. It was really busy inside and seemed really busy but there were a few large tables who arrived before us. Would like to go back, but not sure when, as we reside in Brooklyn.

This is our favorite neighborhood hang with great food but the pitchers of margaritas didn't feel very strong during our last few visits. Of course we'll be back again ASAP. We just love Cowgirl and can't even count the may times we visited over the years.

Great vibe here. Kitschy western decor. Very comfortable surroundings. Packing them in on a Wednesday night. Our waiter Chris was very attentive and super friendly. Strong margaritas and a very refreshing Cowgirl Pilsner. All food consumed received high marks.... pulled pork sandwich, bbq brisket sandwich and steak fajita. Don’t miss the desserts. Original baked potato ice cream concoction that was great as well as the homemade brownie sundae. It’s been around since 1989 for good reason.

Stopped by here at lunchtime, the catfish salad was delicious. Good atmosphere with a mixed crowd. We were a little embarrassed to be told our tip of just over 10% was not enough. Apologies English people sometimes forget! :-)

Dodging the rain, we went in. It's Saturday 2pm. No one is cleaning the table and service the drinks. Not a problem at all. I got two cosmo from the bar and oh boy, they're strong. The bar side of the hall is narrow. Many guitars and other memorabilia are displayed on the wall. The light features over the bar are pretty.

We are semi-regulars at this Hudson Street eatery. BUT, if you're on a strict heart-healthy diet, this might not be the place for you. The food is above average, for what it is. Most dishes are fried and/or slathered with cheese, the calorie counts are astronomical, I assume, and the portions are gigantic. Love the guacamole and chips, the chicken sandwich is an enormous meal when paired with the sides offered, and the salads are enough for two people of normal appetites. The one complaint we have, and not just about this restaurant is the noise. No sound-deadening materials are in use here at all. Kids scream, music blares, wait staff is loud and the clientele must shout at each other over the din. Perhaps it was fun to eat here ten years ago, not so much for us now. All-in-all, though, a good value.

Really enjoyed this his place, really reasonably priced drinks, lovely atmosphere, sat a table of 5 on a Saturday sort notice. Everyone enjoyed their meals. Chicken wings were a particular highlight.

Such a fun place to dine in the village! Funky food the largest iced coffee we ever had and delicious breakfasts! If you're downtown and you're looking for some country in the city I would highly recommend this place.

Everytime we go to NYC we stop here for lunch or dinner. Our girls started coming when they were 5 and 7 and would dress up in their cowgirl boots for the occasion. Now they are 17 and 19 and still love to visit and always order the baked potato dessert. It is a wonderful tradition and great service!

We stopped in recently to the Cowgirl for some of our favorites- Black eyed pea salsa, cornbread, veggie chili, all chopped up salad. Food and service were good as usual. The Habanero Margarita is a holiday special. It was really tasty. You can't go wrong with anything that you order. My daughter had the Mac and cheese which came with a huge salad. We think that the portions are generous. Can't wait for our next visit!

The only reason to go here is if you have kids. They are very deferential to youngsters. We went there with a 12 year old for her birthday. They actually have a nice outdoor area in front, which might be pleasant for a summer evening. Margaritas are good The food is not very good. Ribs tasted as if they were made several days ago - they were dry and tasteless. Their barbecue sauce did not help, but hot sauce did. Hamburger came overcooked, so much that we sent it back. The second one was slightly improved, but not much. Their kids menu is sure to please the youngsters - it contains everything they might want from mac and cheese to burgers and hot dogs. Desserts all very sweet.

Without a doubt the frozen margaritas are fabulously addictive. Beware of the pitchers as it's easy to overdo it. The huge portion of baby back ribs was totally amazing. Our party of 8 got a large backroom table and with the fun background music, our dinner turned into a great party. We went back the next day for a quick drink of you guessed it.

If you are in NYC and you want a margarita, there is no point in going anywhere else. This place and their sister location, Cowgirl Seahorse are the best. My favorite warm afternoon outdoor drinking spot!

This is a nice, easy place to grab a drink and a sit down near Greenwich village. It's happy hour before 6pm where draught beer is $5 a pint. The waitresses were friendly and the decor is very exciting!

My daughter read reviews on this restaurant before we even came to NYC, I had the cheese enchiladas and was pleasantly surprised. Everyone’s meal were delicious. Very cute place.

When walking down from Meatpacking, carried on walking to Greenwich Village, really nice neighborhood! Came across this Diner, very good service had a terrific meal. All liked the burgers, Would definitely go back!

Cowgirl has a great location with a great atmosphere and interior design. They serve good meksican food and beer.

I was so surprised one of the specials was tamales, and let me tell you, I know my tamales. I had the spicy pork tamales and they are authentic and delicious. They are accompanied by a delicious salsa. I would have bought some to take to the hotel with me. My husband ordered the mac and cheese but that was lackluster with a big blob of cheese on top. Other than that great place to eat and look at the decor. By the way they make a very nice blended margarita.

Stopped off for a frozen afternoon happy hour cocktail. Delicious, strong and just what was needed on a very hot afternoon. Very nice accommodating staff, great spot to people watch in the Village.

We popped in this quirky and fun place from breakfast one Sunday morning. It's located in the West Village and has some great outside seating that is wonderful for people watching. The food was very good. We tried a special and a meal from the regular menu. Both were quite tasty and reasonably priced. The service was good, too. I would definitely return.

This place was great. And trust me we tried there patience. We were late changed the reservation to more people and they made it work. Friendly staff and waitress good bartenders. Food was awesome!

We'd walked miles in the frigid cold when we found this place. It was the perfect remedy to our seemingly endless journey. We had no clue about its happy hour special, and a staff member (perhaps a manager) guided us away from our order to a far better deal within the 10 minutes remaining of happy hour. There were a lot of small children dining at this restaurant and many of them were running around the restaurant. Their behavior was a positive distraction. The wings were good, but how can wings go wrong? The service was exceptional especially from the kind fellow who steered us to a good deal!

We were very disappointed with the food. We had two different chicken dishes which tasted like leftovers. The floors were filthy and the place looks like it could use a scrub down from top to bottom. The service was pleasant. Definitely won’t go back.

Just returned from a long weekend in the Big Apple. Dined here for late brunch. Best burger we had! Great food great value and real cowgirls to serve us.

Randomly found this bar while out with friends. As a native Texas, it made me nostalgic for home. The back of the bar had a den with cozy couches and it wasn't too crowded, which is a rarity in the city. The margaritas and nachos were pretty decent. Great area for large groups to hang out!

My friend and I were in the Village for the Halloween parade and decided to try this restaurant. Read the reviews...and we were not disappointed. Tried the stuffed jalapenos and the Mexican corn.Recommend making a reservation. Not in an area that is touristy. Which is great...well worth it.

We went here with a group of people and had a fun time. High points included a variety of choices, many unique for NY, good drinks, good fried foods (hard to diet here) and relaxing decor. On the wish it was different side, it was very loud (hard to talk without yelling), very crowded with tables crammed in everywhere, uncomfortable, old chairs and hard to find something to eat that you didn't feel guilty about. Overall, a fun place for a group gathering, not sure I would go back as a couple.

Four of us arrived with a 5:30 dinner reservation on a Monday, prior to a 7:30 show a few blocks away at the Cherry Lane Theatre. We were quickly taken to a table (lucky, one was free on the sidewalk) and given menus and water. Wait staff are super friendly, professional and attentive w/o being intrusive. I reviewed Cowgirl two years ago (1/6/13) and little has changed. The food is carefully prepared, generously plated, and wallet-friendly. The cowgirl-kitsch ambiance is charming and picnic-y. We've lived in the city for thirty years and eat out frequently, and I can't think of another restaurant we more revisit often. Cowgirl's a gem.

Went 4 times for dinner on this trip to NY. The food is good, the atmosphere is great, and when it's quiet you can chat with the staff who are a delight. And if you end up in conversation with other diners we'll..... we still have the plastic dinosaur & donkey from a visit 4 years ago. It's good value & it's fun!

This is NOT a good place. Food is mediocre . Staff is trying thee best an the families with their little princes and princesses are the worst ( what a pigs) Food to greasy, NOT healthy Slip this place

After a bit of a heavy night this is the perfect place for a substantial get well brunch!! Food is great and staff very friendly! A NYC institution!

This is one of my favorite places on earth. I’ve been there about 20 times and always had a delicious and fun meal. No place like it in NYC. Pictured are the chicken fried chicken and Frito pie. And margaritas, natch. Our server last night was Sam. She was darling. We always get great service there.

We had been told about this place while we were on a day cruise in the Hudson Harbor. It’s nothing fancy, but it was filling and the people were friendly. I would probably stay away from the chili con queso...didn’t seem to sit well later in the day. On the other hand, I had the steak fingers and they were properly breaded and were not tough or chewy. Hey, if you’re in the Village...it works!

I went with a friend for brunch, thinking that I might go for a spot of BBQ, but we both liked the look of the brunch Tex-Mex specials, and we were both pleased. My eggs Benedict came on a nice slice of meat each, and the poached eggs were cooked but with plenty of runny yolk inside still. Service was relaxed and friendly, and the place was clearly popular!

We wanted a Sunday brunch place that opened as early as 10am in the west village that was neither pricey nor fancy, but it HAD to be special for our rendezvous with our two 20 something year old kids coming from Hoboken NJ and Brooklyn. What a delightful surprise! From the atmosphere to the food and service, it was a beautiful experience that we all agreed warranted a return visit. My daughter and I enjoyed the crazy cowgirl scramble, hubby had the vegetarian chili, and son enjoyed eggs and sausage with biscuits and gravy. Coffee was strong and good with freely offered refills. Atmosphere oh-so inviting, chock full of eclectic, retro western items all over, country music and truly happy and pleasant staff. We are a picky bunch, so this was a rare collective thumb's up. Next time, I'm not skipping the exceptional variety of dessert choices!

So glad Cowgirl is still around and continuing to provide great comfort food and friendly service. Their black-eyed peas salsa with chips is a must order!

Had a late night dinner after our arrival to NYC. Our first time visiting the city. The place is vibrating with hungry and laughterful americans. Just like the movies. The food comes in plenty. Great place to hangout.

We stopped in at Cowgirl, loved the vibe of the place. It was busy but they had space for the 4 of us. Our boys had awesome pancakes, we had omelettes. Great food and service, Def recommend if you're in the village.

Popped in for a quick beer and left 4 hours later. Good staff Good beer Good music Good food What more could a person ask for, the bar has a quirky feel to it, and the staff are so friendly. Food was great, a must visit bar if you want to chill for a few hours. Will go again.

My wife and I have always had a blast going here before seeing a play at the Lucille Lortel theater. This time it was a matinee and we took another couple with us. The staff is friendly and very attentive. Everyone's food came out quickly and was very good. Their happy hour is from 3-6, but unfortunately we were too early. Their margaritas are not cheap, but they're extremely potent. One of them just about put my wife under the table. Excellent job!!

This is my neighborhood go-to for 15 year +. A burger 🍔 or chopped salad 🥗 ... a friendly conversation with the friendly bar tender, waiter, or neighbor. Life is chilled and good. Food is comforting and always good.

I recently returned to Cowgirl for the first time in a few years. I was not surprised to find that the food was delicious, the service great, and the atmosphere as fun as always. Make sure you get dessert. Cowgirl is famous for the ice cream baked potato sundae. An ice cream sundae that looks like a baked potato. It is just cute, Cowgirl uses high quality ingredients that comes through in every bite. Oh and did I mention, best onion rings ever!

Always a good time hanging with the girls! Chicken nachos are also the bomb....Happy hour 1/2 price margaritas. Nice crowd

We’ve been here a few times and it’s always a great experience. Worth a visit just for the old western lamps , horns, photos of cowgirl& horses, and furniture in back room! Don’t miss the walls on the way to the downstairs bathrooms. Now about the food. Reasonably priced , friendly waitstaff, good menu choices. We had vegetarian chili, and the macoroni and cheese with salad. Both were very tasty and good portions. The salad dressing was great- made in house ( I asked !) Took pecan pie home for later- excellent. Wonderul whippied cream sent along with it was a nice surprise.

Stopped in for appetizers and drinks and had a great time.. Atmosphere is fun and exciting, staff are pleasant and on top of it. They do not hover over you, allow enough time to enjoy your food and drinks. One person in our group had the chicken dinner and loved it. Prices are very reasonable and portion sizes are great. If you are looking for a friendly, causal restaurant give Cowgirls' a try.

Cowgirl has a very relaxed atmosphere. The bar side is really comfortable and atmospheric. The drinks, especially the sangria are great. Warning they do pack a punch, after sitting around talking and having 3 or 4 you feel it when you get up to leave. We love playing pinball at the 2 machines they have in the back. The food is great, we always have the onion rings and the chopped salad.

Great food! I lived in NYC 20 years ago and would eat there. I was there for the weekend and went there to eat again. My friend had catfish and the price was $17.00. That's a great price. I had a boneless chicken dinner. Very good again for the price. We should get the bake potato!!! Enjoy!!

Adorablely decorated. Took our family's food allergies seriously. Friendly staff. Beware that the restrooms are down a flight of stairs.

Been coming to cowgirl since I was a little girl and it seriously has never disappointed. Wether you come as a couple, with friends or kids they are always so welcoming and friendly. Food is yummy and affordable with good, big portions. I love the nachos - good quality beans, cheese and no skimping on the toppings. It’s a no brainer, if you’re nearby you should stop in!

My family and I stopped at the Cowgirl restaurant while visiting the West Village. It has a nice ambience about it, very eclectic. We ordered barbecue and I was a little disappointed with the quality of the food. I expected better for the prices they're charging. We also had some trouble getting our order correct with our server. I assume that was isolated incident. Overall an average experience.

I visited here with my young daughter for dinner. I had the vegetarian chilli, which was wonderful and tasty. My daughter had the corndog, also tasty. We also had the chocolate brownie with icecream it was oh so tasty, we devoured it in seconds. Our waitress was so friendly and it was no problem when i asked her could she put a candle in the brownie for my daughter's 7th birthday. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting nyc. Great service and great prices that wont break the budget. Oh and a great atmosphere

This very delightful West Village restaurant had fantastic banana pancakes with "The Ranch Handler". I have never eaten better:). Great service and an atmosphere that reminded me of my mothers and uncle's upbringing in eastern Montana. Definitely a 5 star and a refreshing change from the frantic atmosphere of Times Square!

I first went to Cowgirl YEARS ago and I thought the food was great (had a chicken fried steak & it was delicious). My friends and I went there for dinner and I wasn't pleased w/ the enchilada dinner I had. While the enchiladas themselves were good enough, the rice left much to be desired (and I'm Puerto Rican, so I know my rice). The place is darling...the wait staff was very friendly and accommodating with my friends' numerous requests (they're allergic to gluten). It's a nice, cozy place in the West Village and I think a great place to spend a few hours on a beautiful summer afternoon. Next time, I'm going with the chicken fried steak again...

Go to Cowgirl for the nachos, Papa Joel's pulled pork sandwich, the adorable sweet potato ice cream dessert and the overall vibe. Cowgirl is a neighborhood joint no tourist to NYC should miss. It's also a stone's throw to the new Whitney and the High Line, so a great spot to visit after or before either of those hot NYC tourist attractions. If you're lucky, you may spot one of the many celeb regulars. But even if not, this is the place for ample portions, fun drinks and lots of fun. Excellent service, too.

Lovely local restaurant good food and service. All fresh, excellent value. would go back.Philly cheese was Reallyyyyy good

This has always been a great place to meet up and have brunch with friends. Good comfort food , attentive service and big portions , they make ea mean margarita too

My wife and I were walking in the area when we came across cowgirl. The exterior is quirky and we were curious about the place so decided to call in for a drink and a bite to eat. The quirky theme continues on the inside and although it's kind of dated, I liked the place and it made me smile. We received a friendly welcome and were shown to a choice of table. There was a kids party on at the time and the place felt so alive, sure it was a little noisey but it added to the atmosphere. We weren't overly hungry and ordered nachos and a chopped salad. Both dishes arrived quickly and tasted great. Portions were very large. The nachos are definitely to share unless you are extremely hungry. We had a couple of rounds of drinks whilst we were dining. Service was efficient and friendly. Overall this was a really good dining experience.

In the Village, this is a hot spot and it is family friendly, good food, good service, I love it!! If you sit outside, you might have a star sighting!!!!

We were a family of four and each ordered something different....portions were big and everybody loved their dish... Staff was friendly and accompanying... 👍

We thought the food here was kind of sub par. The fajitas didn't look fresh and lacked the usual umph! of a sizzling plate. Food overall did not have the style we would expect at the prices they charge. I think the menu needs some re-doing and probably the food prep as well. Having worked in the business before I get nervous when you can smell that bad smell coming of bar and kitchen mats.

Staff was cool. Loved the names of the drinks. Loved the fact we were able to sit outside and eat. And Corndogs on the menu. Cowgirl had me right there.

We had a lovely dinner here with my boys. The service was excellent. Ambient really fun. The food was very good. Ribs, wings, Fried Oysters, Mac & Cheese for the Kids. Could have tried a lot more ! the dessert were fantastic. The Baked potato was epic as my son said. We will definitely be back !!

We really enjoyed our meal at this quirkly bar in NYC which was recommended to us by New Yorkers. Go for the ribs or the catfish salad and definitely the frozen Margaritas. Southern style food, friendly staff and a great atmosphere.. Would dine there again if we ever get the chance !

Great place for families as well as folks who enjoy a nice cocktail. One of the best frozen margaritas ever! Portions of food and drink (served in pint mason jars!) are ample! The staff is friendly and the service is great. Everything I've tried there is yummy. Awesome place to hang out and have that cozy down-home feeling!

I attended a shower there, and it was a really great experience. The staff was attentive, the appetizers were tasty, the drinks were good, and the room was away from the rest of the place. Fun!

As we are a family of 4 (2 teenage girls) this was a great place to eat our final meal in prior to heading home to London. Burgers,Mac n cheese Corn Dogs etc etc the four of us shared the baked potato ice cream. would definately com back to!

We just wrapped up a visit to NYC with our family, including two children ages two and five. We read about Cowgirl in a book, "Family Guide New York City." We are fans of comfort food, so we loved the menu. Only wish they had offered sweet iced tea as well. We were particularly impressed with the kids meals. The server brought our children waters with cute little red horses clipped to the straws. The kids meals were particularly large. Our children received several chicken tenders, very high quality ones at that, along with macaroni and a vegetable (thanks to their willingness to sub out the fries). Overall, we loved the neighborhood, the feel of the restaurant, and the food. If Cowgirl was in our town, we'd be regular customers.

Great tex mex restaurant, friendly service, delicious food, huge menu to choose from, real American atmosphere, the way you expected!

I like the Cowgirl. I also like that I can have breakfast all day. The people are very nice and want you to be happy. They have a full menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Also a full service bar.

we eat on last day our stay in New York. Not a terrific food but good and very pleasant and typical as place. I asked spicy chicken wings and they cooked them for me, instead their recipe BBQ and I appreciated. We will come again when in New York.

We were looking for a place to reserve a table for 8 at short notice and found this cool restaurant. If you love American/Mexican food, this is the place. I don’t think it’s possible to eat 3 courses here... I struggled with one (Bar K Stockyard Hangar Steak... AMAZING!) and my friends ended up sharing desserts. Decor is kitsch and quirky. Service is good and friendly. Food is tasty and huge!

In a nice location. You can sit outside if the weather is good. The restaurant was really busy when we arrived but we were seated straight away. It had a nice buzz going on. The food was very good and reasonably priced. Would eat here again.

Food was outstanding and large sized portions were served. The salads were as described in the menu, and very fresh. I’ll definitely return.

In the city for Thanksgiving is always a bit of a challenge to decide on what to do for meals. This year we decided on Cowgirl and were not disappointed. Food was good and plentiful and service fantastic. Desert with the apple crumble and brownie sundae were favorites. We would love to try this during normal meals. Worth a try

Nice and authentic restaurant with real American food. Every was tasty. I recommend the margaritas that are awesome. Nice and warm ambiance

This restaurant has been around for about 25 years, and is as fun now as it was then. We revisited it in June 2016 for the first time in well over a decade and were delighted. Portions are huge, so think twice before you order an appetizer. But if you do, go for the corndogs! The vegetarian platter is delicious, with a mild chili, green salad, and wonderfully moist cornbread. We ordered a pitcher of frozen margaritas, which were not too sweet and lovely with lime. There is a small gift shop in the restaurant to buy t-shirts and other knick-knacks. Service is cheerful and relaxed. This is one of my favourite New York institutions, may it last forever!

My title about sums its up. This place is extremely busy, loads of energy and great ambience. It feels like a fun pub with great food. The service was quick and friendly. Considering how busy the place is it was impressive. The food is American/Mexican - lots of it and well cooked. I’d certainly recommend it for groups of friends or a celebration. You must book (same day seems ok).

Total fun restaurant. Good Tex/Mex cuisine. Great service. Great location. My favorite is chicken fried chicken w/mashed. Really good guac. Old time cowgirl memorabilia on walls. Good bar. Fun spot.

This is a great place for a casual brunch with friends and family. Food is great. Creative and lots to chose from on menu. Bloody Mary is delicious. Great location in West Village.

Cowgirl is a great restaurant with an awesome theme of the western cowgirls and cowboys. The food is great and the type of food is American. The service is awesome and the food isn't to pricey.

Went here on Saturday night with a big group- 6 adults, 4 young kids. It was great! We waited for a table in a room that felt like a southern living with some pinball machines. Once seated the food was delicious, especially the ribs and frito pie. The blood orange margaritas were fantastic and reasonably priced. What I was most appreciative of was how friendly the staff was regarding us bringing our young kids here on a Saturday night. Will definitely return, with kids or with just adult friends. Perfect option for either.

We came across this place by chance just looking for somewhere for lunch. Very quirky place with great decor. The food is tex/mex style with great variety on the menu. The place was very busy because it was Memorial Day. Lots of locals eating so it can't be that bad. The waitresses were very friendly and we had great service. The food served was very good and big portions. There is a separate bar if you just want drinks. On the whole I enjoyed this place and would return.

What a little gem! Visited here for a late lunch. The service and atmosphere were wonderful. Staff couldn't have been nicer. Excellent food (my husband recommends the pulled pork sandwich!). Also, you have to try the frozen margaritas - I had the cherry - yum! You can sit outside or in. Great décor, old-world cowgirl memorabilia.

There are few better places to cool off on a blisteringly hot day in New York than Cowgirl. Their frozen margaritas are amazing, and if you happen to arrive during happy hour, as we did, all the better! I had a couple of frozen blood orange margaritas and my body temperature dropped 10 degrees on a 90 degree hot and humid afternoon. The service is fast, friendly, and relaxed, the ambiance is fun and funky, and it's a wonderful place to take a break from exploring the Village.

Cowgirl is our new favorite restaurant in the West Village. The atmosphere is causal, laid back and comfortable - busy but not noisy, with the feel of a neighborhood hangout. The food is delicious, portions are generous, and prices are affordable. All of the staff were first-rate - pleasant, efficient, and friendly, yet highly professional. The fried catfish was fresh, tender, perfectly prepared in a delectable light batter. Sides of rice and carrots sounded ordinary but were very tasty. Pulled pork was another standout, and the handcut french fries were among the best we've ever had. The meal began with complimentary chips and terrific salsa made with black-eyed peas and cliantro (Texas caviar, according to the Cowgirl menu). The atmosphere is relaxed and the decor is kitsch. Tables are nicely spaced, lighting is pleasant, and the bar adjacent to the restaurant was lively but not boisterous. Overall, an outstanding choice for a casual night out.

This is a favorite spot, for my local NYC Village friends ... and i can see why. First, the staff is exceptional with their wonderful (and fun) customer service. Two, the food is good and they serve plenty of it. We were with a mixed group ... vegetarians, vegans, and meats only folks, and everyone got something they enjoyed. But, to me, what made this place really special, is they can happily manage large groups ... with great service, good food, and a fun location! You won't be disappointed! AND ... its got everything you wanted to know about Cowgirls, too! (smiles)

The atmosphere is fun and the food is great, especially the whiskey pork chops. And the margaritas are served in mason jars, which is a nice touch.

Food is good. Service is good. Atmosphere is fun. So glad they are still going strong after all these years.

Friendly and efficient service. Tremendous ribs, BBQ chicken and appropriate sides. Very crowded but hey it's the Village. Drinks were good. Frozen margarita delightful Our server cheerfully substituted Broccoli for French fries and we were given a lot ! And it was delish. You will be hard pressed to find the more healthy fare but that's not what this place is all about.

Great place to go on a trip to NYC with teenagers. Good choice of southern Tex Mex food in a very kitschy setting. The staff are all friendly and attentive. Good range of drinks even if the wine by glass was on the pricey side. Would go back.

Cute little tables out on the sidewalk, very friendly service, first time I'd eaten Catfish and it was SO YUMMY. Southern food but not dripping in grease and fat, I really enjoyed it. Felt like a comfortable local. Great for people watching if you sit outside.
Frito-pie and chicken-fried-steak RULES
Very few places do it right.... their frito-pie arrives table and still is crunchy. Chelsea Clinton had her birthday here many moons ago!
