I loved this place. I ordered the seared tuna which was not only perfectly prepared and plated, it was a generous portion. The oysters were tremendous, salads imaginative and the carrot cake was a great way to end the meal. Our server was very attentive, a recent theater graduate destined for stardom. The atmosphere is vibrant and has great energy. My wife and 18 year old daughter loved this place and so did I. It was also reasonably priced. Make a reservation because it fills up pretty quick. As a restaurant investor from Chicago, I wish I could take this place home with me.

Pleasant enough

By Carl R |

Good location on Amsterdam. $1.00 raw oysters from 5-7. Happy hour drinks limited to the menu ,specials,. A decent martini was $15.00. Our male waiter seemed rather disinterested in us and his job, hence three stars only. Didn't have any other food. Went next door to the flur de mayo for a hearty dinner

Great food and great service

By Danielle M |

We went on a Saturday evening during happy hour. Luckily we had reservations because the place was packed but we were able to be seated right away. Our server (I believe her name was Sammie) was amazing. She made great recommendations and both of us loved our food. I was very happy to see that all of the staff worked as a team, and I even saw someone who I assume was the manager (because he wore a suit) setting tables, seating guests, etc.

Birthday Celebration Dinner

By Mauro1990 |

This place takes reservations and that’s what we did. When we arrived we were seated right away. The restaurant was full of customers and it had two seating areas. Front and back. Our waiter was Charlie and he was very helpful in suggesting what to order for the oysters since we came in during happy hour which ended at 6pm. I ended up ordering 14 of them because I wanted to taste the different areas that they came from. Our meals were cooked to perfection which consisted of Fusilli Calabresi and Seared Rare #1 Yellowfin Tuna. The menu for the happy hour had many choices and the regular menu had a variety of choices also. For dessert, I was given a complimentary Affogato. The staff was friendly including our waiter Charlie. Thank you to your entire staff for making my Birthday very Special.

Great Experience

By PrinceConsort |

We had a great meal here and really enjoyed the restaurant. Perhaps our experience wasn't typical, because other reviewers have said that the restaurant is noisy, but we went here on a Saturday night right after Christmas, and the place was almost empty. and it was pleasantly quiet. Our server was great...friendly, cheerful, welcoming, etc. Couldn't have been better. The restaurant itself is very attractive. We ate in the front, but the room in the back is quite large, and also attractive. Ambience was great. The food was quite good. I had the fluke tartare and the swordfish. The fluke came with paprika chips, which I thought did not really complement the fluke (although I ate them all). The swordfish was a bit overcooked, but the eggplant caponata and the peppers that came with it were delicious. The wine list was limited, but OK. Prices are high, but not outrageously so. Overall the whole experience was excellent and we had a great meal..

Best Oyster Happy Hour

By 819andreay |

Happy Hour every day from 4 - 6. Best Oysters available. $1.50 for large Blue Points can’t be beat. Pair it with an ice cold Pilsner and it’s the perfect summer late afternoon snack. Service is great. Seating available inside and outside. I hear the foods excellent, but I can’t get past the oysters!!!

Fun Vibe and good Happy Hour!

By Renee S |

A great option if you want a relaxing but fun place to grab a drink, enjoy happy hour or have a meal. Great location. Friendly and attentive staff.

Just ok. Issues with both service and food

By 7thEarlofSidcup |

We had a decent time, but in a place with as many choices as NYC, I will not return. The service was friendly but slapdash and disorganized. I had to be very stern to stop our server bringing our chilled seafood tower and entrees to the table together. The food was just ok, with a couple of serious disappointments. Jonah crab claws were served ice cold and the entire table agreed they were completely flavorless. I think they had been frozen. The remoulade also lacked flavor. The tower was served with insufficient amounts of both remoulade and watery cocktail sauce. I had to ask for horseradish. The shrimp were rock-hard, and this ‘sustainable’ restaurant provided no information on its provenance. Nor did the menu include this information generally. It should. The $35 lobster roll was light on lobster, no decent chunks just scraps. Poor! Unimpressive

Oysters

By sovta |

Terrific deal Happy Hour weeknights from 5-7 PM only $1 per oyster served with 2 sauces and lemon. The doors don't open until 5 PM so don't come early. My friend and I ordered a bottle of pinot grigio, $46 to enjoy with the 3 dozen oysters we consumed over a little more than 2 hours. It was lovely and we will be back.

Nice Date Spot

By Marija |

This is a nice seafood place in our neighborhood and our new favorite date night spot. It has great food, interesting cocktail list, and really fun and upbeat atmosphere (a bit younger and more diverse crowd than other regular UWS places). We ordered some oysters, a spicy tuna tartare, a delicious roasted cauliflower soup, and my husband had Jamaican jerk spiced ribs. Everything was very tasty. The service was great as well.

Lovely....

By Azulica |

I had dinner with friends last night, March 4, 2019. What a delight!! Service is superb....the place is very nice inside and the food did not disappoint me at all...which seldom happens in most places....... I had the calamari ink pasta ....it was delicious...it had lots of tiny shrimp and slices of garlic and some tiny pieces of what I think was leeks....all in a white sauce that was very flavorful. Each one of my friends had the mussels..provenzale....a huge dish and very flavorful. Each one took half home.....the mussles came with french fries...the disappointment of the evening were the oysters.........we ordered the medium size and a dozen...3 kinds of 4 oyster from various places of the country....they were very small and not worth the $3.65 we paid for each...nothing to rave about the oysters...not even the flavor... Dessert was ...I think...called milk and honey....an uneventful sweet ,.,,, The Martini glass too small and the bartender could have been more generous with the vodka..... It was a lovely evening., Best,

Absolutely delicious seafood + great service!

By Sara S |

Highly recommend. I am an UWS local, my family was in town and we decided to check out this place for seafood. We were blown away by the delicious, fresh and WILD CAUGHT seafood selections. We were all extremely impressed by the friendly and knowledgeable service from the waitstaff, the fresh fish and the fun and pretty interior of the restaurant. Highly recommend. Also, $1 oysters during happy hour!! The cauliflower soup, red crab tostadas, oysters, salmon and fish of the day were all great...yum! Plus, homemade local chocolates as a complimentary dessert!

Happy hour classy cocktails with Oysters at a price to match in Manhattann

By AndaluciaDubai |

What a gem of a place .. if you looking for New York City vibe minus the crazy crowd but with all the pizzazz and the A class service .. then this is the place to be. Check out their happy hours from 4-6 pm with oysters. The icing was the mixology curated by bartender Annie who puts together these amazing cocktails with ease of pouring water like her squid ink cocktail but what blew me away was her specially made “thoughtful” cocktail celebrating a milestone in my life !! Would totally go again .. this is now in my “goto” local list in Manhattan. Thank you Annie and the crew at Crave Fishbat UWS !!

If I lived in Manhattan, I'd eat here ALL THE TIME!

By ADearlove |

Everything about our experience -- from the ambiance, to the servers, to the FOOD, to the wine list -- everything was exceptional. The restaurant feels more like two restaurants, with the front half feeling more like a casual, welcoming bar and the back feeling more like a restaurant. Our server, Natalie, could not have been more friendly and shared her opinions about the best of the menu -- and there was lots to choose from. I had the cauliflower soup -- which I could have had 10 bowls of -- had roasted pieces of cauliflower and oysters in it. Delectable. My sister had salmon sashimi which was equally delicious. For our entree my sister ordered the fish of the day (snapper) and I had the seared tuna prepared in a Mexican style. Also out of this world. Also be sure to order the side dishes -- we had brussel sprouts and the roasted beets -- so so good. And yes, we somehow managed to save room for dessert. We ordered the chocolate cookie and the carrot cake -- both were so moist and the ice creams that came with them were perfect. All of the fish they serve is sustainable -- and ridiculously fresh. Seriously, every single part of the meal and the evening was perfect. We will come back here whenever we are in the city. THANK YOU CRAVE FISHBAR for a great evening!

Great dinner

By mannart03 |

Wonderful dinner last night at Crave. There were 5 of us there and even though 1 of our party was late in arriving they still allowed us to take our table. Not every place would do that so it was much appreciated. We had quite an assortment of drinks, appetizers and main dishes. Not a morsel left on any plate! Highly recommend Crave Fishbar! BTW - if you plan to go keep in mind they have 2 locations so ensure you make the Rez at the one you plan to go to. A party checking in ahead of us made that unfortunate mistake.

Swimmingly great!

By winecouchon |

Just dined here last night.Caught the tail end of Happy Hour. The oysters are fabulous! All kinds nice and briny. Had a great salad with Avocado & Gooseberry very tasty. Had perfectly cooked seared Tuna that was outta this world. The Salmon dish was also very good. Great wine list even by the glass. Busy place.

Oysters Happy Hour

By Tiffany N |

Wanted oysters and happened upon Crave during happy hour. Lucky us!! All of the oysters were $2 so we tried an assortment without breaking the bank. While I didn't like some of the bigger ones, they were all very fresh. They didn't have crackers which was a negative for my wife who likes her oysters on crackers. We also had raw clams, which are my favorite. These didn't disappoint. The fried oyster sliders were different. I found that the oysters were not really flavorful but the sandwich overall was not bad. We topped it off with a side of brussels sprouts which I would recommend.

Adequate, but nothing special.

By DJKTraveler |

Adequate, but nothing special was our take on this place. Surprisingly small portions, fish was OK but crab was bland and tasteless. Very noisy, not much of an ambiance for friendly conversation, since that meant SHOUTING across the table. A weird add-on for drinks was the cocktail surcharge, an extra three dollars per drink to make a cocktail. So you order a drink and then they add $3.00 -- why do I have to give a bonus to the bartender(s) for doing their job? Friendly service, but once was enough. Not recommended.

Oyster happy hour

By 1dartman |

I came in for their Oyster happy hour....only $1.00 or $1.50 each with lots of choices. I ordered $1.00 oysters. Quality wise they were passable, not the freshest were some. I liked the ambiance and the service was good. I would consider going back for a full dinner.

Oyster amazement

By Spfaff |

We went for oyster happy hour and stayed for a fantastic dinner too. During happy hours all oysters are included. Fun to taste how different they are. Served beautifully and delicious. Service is phenomenal. The servers are very knowledgeable about the menu and timed serving dinner courses perfectly. At our party of four, we all had something different and one dish just kept toping the last with flavor combinations and appeal. The atmosphere is welcoming and fun. We will definitely be back and recommend it to anyone in the upper west side.

Good but avoid happy hour

By Andrew J |

I like crave. Professional staff and good food. But beware the happy hour is packed with annoying rules regarding what you can order and when you can order. The rules serve the house only, not customers, by restricting the number of, eg, oysters they need to part with at happy hour prices.

craving fish?

By Andrea S |

We hd two different fish dishes--and shared. both excellent. Well prepared and presented. Ample wine selection. Salad to start big enough to split.

Nice Find....

By Managany |

Celebrated Father's Day with an early dinner at Crave. We were early for our 4 o'clock reservation, but were seated promptly and enjoyed great oysters ($1) and cocktails while the restaurant transitioned from brunch to dinner. Service was friendly and efficient We were a party of 4 and all enjoyed our meal selections. Swordfish, salmon sashimi salad, grilled octopus (this was a bit over cooked) tuna poke and finished with a selection of desserts and coffee. Overall, this place provides great value for the $. Will keep it on our "return to" list. Bartender did a nice job on the APEROL Spritz. 😉

Excellent all around

By torontoeddy |

The exterior appearance is deceiving and looks like any other restaurant along that strip but once inside this place revealed itself as a true gem. The food diversity and quality was superb. Our server was fun and attentive. The prices are fair for this quality of cuisine. Nice wine and drink list. The interior is really wonderful and an interesting mix of colors and style. I think we spent $100 per person but it was memorable and worth every penny.

Oyster happy hour

By Mbykova |

Good oyster happy hour place! Great service! Wish they had other items on the happy hour many other than just oysters. One type of wine for $8 in the happy hour menu that went well with oysters. Really enjoy their calamari and octopus! Would recommend and come back!

Can’t beat $1 Oysters

By ArtevD |

The 3 of us ate 18 findelabaie in seconds and immediately ordered 6 bluepoint, 6 moomoo, 6 fisherisland to be consumed as if we hadn’t eaten in ages. They were all mouthwatering and delicious. I also enjoyed immensely an order of a fried oyster slider and a burger slider. Co-owner, Brian is an outstanding restauranteur with a caring attentive staff. James, our server was wonderful and we all had a memorable dinner. We had wished we could have had lunch and dinner here the next few days of our trip. Check their website for $1 oysters times.

Best seared Tuna

By NancyGail |

Outside and inside restaurant decor is charming. The food was amazing. I had seared tuna. The portion was huge and it was one of the best preparations I’ve ever tasted. My husband had a huge steak. He said it was delicious. We had the crab as an appetizer which was excellent. Oysters were good, but I personally didn’t like the sauces that were served on the side. Our waiter was terrific.

My Go To Spot!!!

By Kevin G |

This is my go to spot, Quality, sustainability ,creative dishes, & consistency!! This was a hidden gem. Now more & more people are finding out about there brunch, Happy Hour, & dinner. They have a great vibe within the restaurant. The staff consistently radiates a beautiful energy!

Delicious!

By lr62194 |

I have been here twice with my family and I will continue to go back. They have a wonderful selection of seafood, and also some food that isn't seafood. The service here is out of this world. Everyone who works here is extremely nice and really cares about your well-being while you are dining.

Whatever you do-for the love of God-order the carrot cake!

By KJDbiz1 |

We were craving some fresh seafood and thought we’d branch out. Very cute place, terrific waiter- prompt service. My husband ordered some fresh oysters pronounced them outstanding. My daughter ordered kale salad which was huge, and a side of bacon-both great. I had the cavatelli (sp?) with fresh lobster-wonderful! But the sleeper and best part was the carrot cake w fig sorbet-a wondrous thing we have been talking about for days since...

A pleasant surprise

By Paul B |

We shared the grilled octopus appetiser and then each had the squid ink spaghetti. Both were very tasty. Not inexpensive, but worth the money. Wine list was very competent as well.

Oppressive noise, slow service and no vegan options

By CatoUWS |

It’s a shame what has happened to this place. We used to enjoy a nice dinner here. No more. I admit that we haven’t been here since pre-COVID. The food is still very good. But there’s more to a pleasant dinner than just plates of good food, especially at these prices. The sound overwhelms the environment. It’s not really music, though it may once have been; now, it’s just the amplified bass lines. Boom-boom-boomboom-kaBOOM-kaboom, boom-boom-boomboom-kaBOOM-kaboom, bass guitar and drums, sometimes alternating, sometimes together, but boom-boom-boomboom-kaBOOM-kaboom, relentlessly. You can’t hear your guests talk across the table (and we are not “low talkers”). The waiter can’t hear you place your order without bending over the table to get closer to you. And to compound it, the people at the veryclose next table were SHOUTING to make themselves heard to each other. Pleasant dinner conversation? Nope. The inability to talk with each other was particularly troublesome given the time we waited, and waited, and waited. First to give drink orders……then to wait for the drinks to be delivered …….then to give food orders…… and so on. Service was well meaninged, but very, very slow. It should not take that long to bring a glass of wine from the bar easily within sight. The waits are painful given the oppressive noise in which you have to sit while waiting. The food, eventually, was good. Oysters on the half shell were fresh and briny, as they should be – but served without bread or crackers or anything to cut the brine. (Really?) Seared tuna was perfect and the texture of butter. Even the corn accompanying it was tasty. The crab fusilli was great – nicely textured pasta, crab throughout the dish. But there is not a single option on the menu for someone who keeps to a vegan diet. Our vegan guest, who does research before going to a restaurant (especially a “fish bar”), had already planned on the cavatelli, which she asked to be served without the “whipped ricotta” listed on the menu. Nope. Once the waiter deciphered what she was asking (…”boom-boom-boomboom-kaBOOM-kaboom”…), he explained that the pasta was *made with* cheese. Really? And not another option for a vegan guest to join fish-eaters at dinner. In this day and age? Folks, as I recall you have steak on the menu for those who don’t want seafood; can’t your chef make something with no animal products in it? Like, um, pasta and “tomato ragout”? (Our vegan guest ended up ordering the kale salad appetizer for dinner, which she *was* able to have made without the cheese listed as an ingredient. And then had toast and jam as soon as she got home. Really?) All in all, we were very disappointed. The food was good but the experience wasn’t. New York City is a big place and I can get a good dinner without boom-boom-boomboom-kaBOOM-kaboom. And maybe even get oyster crackers when I order oysters, or bread with a naked kale salad. It’s too bad. We used to like this place. But after this we won’t be back.

All around excellent dining experience

By tms215 |

the food was excellent, the wine was good, the service was perfect. This is an excellent seafood restaurant. Not as expensive as most NYC dinners. Definitely return.

Wonderful for Brunch

By It's the Little Things |

I can't wait to go back for brunch or dinner. The food is wonderful, fresh and delicious. Try the fish and waffles for brunch- gives a nice sweet/ savory taste. The crab omelet is packed with crab and melts in your mouth. Great Bloody Mary's and Mimosas too.

Relaxed yet great service.

By Cherie C |

After my sister and I spent a day at the Cloisters for the "Heavenly Bodies" exhibit, this restaurant was perfect and we got a corner table from which we could observe the crowd and feel the buzz. Laid back atmosphere and our server was such a pro. Still thinking about that fried calamari dish.

Good food, ambiance and decor: trifecta!

By mkd_travelmania |

Indeed: three kinds of mules (Moscow, Kentucky and Mexican) and the rosemary gin & tonic were a hit. For appetizers we had the calamari (expected yet good) and the prawns fra diavolo (fantastic) with farro. I had the tuna crudo ceviche (OK but it lacked leaving it a bit bland) my husband had the salmon (delicious and tender) a friend ordered the lobster curry (sooooo good) and the sprouts as a side (really well seasoned and yummy). the decor is wonderful: nautical but unexpectedly different: glossy teal walls instead of navy blue, lots of brass and rafia and a gorgeous underwater themed wall on one end. I must admit, the logo itself had me at hello (it's an old diving helmet!) would def go back!

Worth a visit

By mizzelle |

We enjoyed our dinner at Crave - the food was quite good and very inventive tastes. Calamari is a must! Our waiter was oddly interesting and not quite at the top of his game during our visit. Will return and would recommend to friends.

Date night destination.

By Wheatman65 |

Visited Crave Fishbar twice, and both times with a focus on oysters. Both evenings they offered a nice selection of the tasty mollusks. They were served cleanly shucked but there was a substantial wait after ordering til they arrived. Servers are accommodating and for the most part knowledgeable of the evenings offerings. Although I have not sampled other items from the menu, the items we saw pass by, going to other tables looked quite appetizing. So, you don't mind pushing your way through a bustling bar crowd to your table, give them a try. I'll definitely be back.

Terrific Oysters and fish

By john w |

This gem is only a 15 minute LYFT or so from theater district and has an amazing selection of oysters. We opted for the Blue Points as our usual favorite. The service by Emily and Mgr Kerry was excellent, well informed and friendly. Already on our list for next NYC visit.

Good food but service was so slow

By rickcrespo |

My wife and daughter went to brunch. The food was good esp the oysters but one of the ovens was not working so brunch took 2 hours which can be problematic when you have a 1 year old. Crave offered us a free dessert which was nice

At last: a destination restaurant on the UWS

By traveler2703D |

The sidewalk tables and the busy bar scene gave way to a charming back room where we were seated. For starters, my companion ordered a dozen oysters - he asked the staff to choose - and I had the rice flour-dusted calamari, served on a bed of bean sprouts, and powdered with chile. Omg kind of says it all. The calamari was so very different from anything you can recall eating before with that name. Light, flavorful, and not bread-y. A very nice Muscadet accompanied us throughout. I raved so much about the calamari that my companion ordered it for his entree, while I had the red crab salad, which came on a bed of delicious fresh greens and thinly sliced radish, with a hint of lemon and sesame oil. Fantastic! For dessert, we chose to share the pecan roll plus bourbon pound cake and ice cream. At this point, the manager, Zach, asked us if we were enjoying our meal and I admit to having gushed. He sent us a complimentary "Famous Chocolate Chip Cookie," which I suggest he rename Deep-Dish Chocolate Chip Cookie. Too fabulous for something as prosaic as "famous." A word about the service: our server, Tiger, was delightful, knowledgeable and attentive. It was she who suggested the calamari - the hit of the evening. It's a great thing to find such a place only a few blocks from home! We will be back for sure on Mussels Night!!

Great seafood especially the oysters. Service less do.

By Allan S |

One of the best spots for terrible fish c seafood in manhattan. Their shellfish and seafront of are impeccable as is the desserts. The service was generally good with an exception. Apparently none of the servers. Was having an off night. Otherwise a great spot but call for reservations as it is a hot spot

Decent food but waitstaff leaves bad taste in mouth

By David M |

We arrived for our 7:00 pm reservation for 4 people at 6:45 pm. Manager at the front desk asked if we wanted to be seated and we said yes. He advised we should get our drink orders in soon as it was happy hour which ends at 7:00 pm. He added that if the remaining members of our party arrived a few minutes after 7:00 pm, he’d allow the happy hour pricing for them. Our waitress, Jill B, arrives promptly and takes our order. We ordered two dozen oysters to which she replied we can only order a dozen for the two of us seated. I told her what the manager said, and in a very surly manner, she advised “guests must be seated before I can order”. Not wanting to make a scene, I backed down. My phone showed 6:59 when the other couple arrived. I immediately got up looking for the waitress to put in their order. At 7:03, she showed up and asked for their order. When they ordered their clams, she said happy hour was over. I replied that they had been here at 6:59, and it was after 7:00 because it took her 4 minutes to get to us. In her surly manner, she coldly replied, the order must be in by 7:00. I said, “are you really going to charge us full price under these circumstances-even the manager told us he would maintain the happy hour pricing for our friends.” She wouldn’t budge! And I was not about to make a scene for the difference of about $12 on the bill. So while the bread is delicious and the food was good, who needs the attitude and aggravation! There are plenty of other good establishments right on that same block.

Oyster Happy Hour

By NewYorkLuvtotravel |

Oyster Happy hour is consistently great here! Fresh! Diverse ! Great presentation and price can't be beat in NYC! Staff is always attentive! Nice wine list ! Food is always good! Fresh seafood in creative preparations. We go here often and have never been disappointed ! Truly a pleasurable experience !

Always a Fine Meal

Always consistent, always fresh and always great friendly, and knowledge service. Most of their menu has Gluten Free options so bring anyone and enjoy.

Our favourite place on the Upper West Side

By WheresDaisyDuke |

Crave Fishbar on Amsterdam Avenue in the Upper West Side, NY is superb. One of those places with a great vibe, where you could happily choose anything in the menu. Like many UWSers, we often go at happy hour and go hard at the wide variety of $1 oysters (chose from Montauk, Maine, Maryland amongst others). Add some sashimi and or or two main course dishes, some exquisite rose and you will be in food heaven.

Enjoyed our happy hour

By Mbykova |

We went there on Thursday night for a happy hour. Oysters 1$ and they were really good! Had octopus and calamari appetizers and really enjoyed it! The only thing if you sit at the higher tables then you feel a good amount of blow when AC turns on. Just something to keep in mind. Would definitely go back. Most likely tomorrow;)

Hmmmm

By AmyC723 |

Love the atmosphere. It's just great. Sat at one of the high tables last night. Just love that. The food is solid but I have been finding the menu very limiting lately. I love fish and salad but struggled to find an entree that excited me. So I had two appetizers. Were good but I was hoping for a choice that was truly exciting.

Fare thee well. We won’t be back.

By bassfinder |

Sorry to report that this neighborhood spot has gone downhill since Covid. The front of the house staff were very nice and accommodating. But our server in back was anything but hospitable. How about hostile as a fair description. No hellos, no welcome, no how are you today. Just, “want something to drink.“ By the end of the lunch, he just dumped a check on our table. No water refills. No, can I get you anything else? He had an attitude of, ‘Just please get the hell out of here as soon as possible.’ Do you want to know about the food? For a place known for its oysters, they were the smallest oysters I have ever been served in a shell. EVER!! They were called Shuckers choice. They would’ve been better served shucked to the alley cats! The calamari was tasty. Nothing special about the Cod Sandwich, which we defaulted to because they weren’t offering any broiled pieces of fish. BTW, the fries were soggy. Sorry, but this couple no longer craves Crave.

For Outdoor Sunday brunch

By Dawn S |

The old fashioned cocktails are good and strong. The refreshing ones are just that for about the same price so choose wisely. With outdoor seating on Amsterdam, there's plenty of people watching available. The "hangover" had lovely presentation by was a little bland. I suppose it's safer in case you did have a hangover. The fish tacos had nice flaked fish. Dessert was presented nicely. Service attentive. Indoors was much hipper in ambiance if you want quieter option.

Superb!

By GSharpMajor |

The raw bar is exceptional and if you go during happy hour, oysters are just a buck a piece. Entrees are delicious. The milk and honey ice cream dessert is original and not to be missed. The ambiance is of a fish house, utensils clang and laughter is boisterous, but you won't mind because the food tastes great. Reservations are recommended. You won't be disappointed.

Excellent food and great service with GF options

By Patsy539 |

My husband and I enjoyed a lovely seafood dinner in this bright and energetic restaurant. I had the scallops and black risotto and he had the oysters - all delish. Shared a lovely dessert as well and great coffee as well. Service was excellent. This is not a quiet dining experience but definitely a place I would return to for great seafood.

UWS Seafood

By David E |

We have had very good dinner experiences on several occasions. On our last visit, I had a squid ink pasta with seafood and my wife ordered a lobster curry dish. They were both excellent.

A fun place to have great food

By FancyBlueViolet |

Crave is well worth the visit, it's on the upper westside not difficult to get to. We had a really good meal and our waitress, Natalie was truly amazing. She was great, knew the menu inside out and made great recommendations. There are quite a few good restUrants in that area but CRAVE is worth a visit. OOPS...almost forfot to mention the drinks, be sure to try at least one.

Food was fine, but service was spotty

By whynothavefun |

We tried Crave Fishbar on Amsterdam tonight -- our first visit to this spot. Overall, it was an okay experience, but we won't be rushing back. I think we all felt the food was fine, though the carrot cake was definitely a disappointment (small and quite tasteless!). The biggest issue is that our waitress did NOT have the "customer service gene" at all and servers brought us 3-4 orders that were intended for other tables! That was a bit off-putting.

Total Disappointment!!!

By Tracy212A |

So every 3 months we are in NYC for a week. Whenever we arrive, we check-in and then head straight for Crave. I am happy there because I can eat their gluten free calamari which is amazeballs. Hubby usually gets a couple dozen oysters and the fish tacos. Everything is always so on point but what a huge disappointment in front of friends whom we were treating to brunch. We arrive at 12:30 and get seated outside. Waiter takes the drinks order and we get the drinks 25 minutes later as our last guest arrives. At this point we have already put in our food orders. The waiter quickly takes her drink and food order (lobster roll and fries). 20 minutes later, when we are on our second drink, her food arrives...wait what? Our waiter came over and he seemed confused but my guess is he was hurting as he looked super hung over and he just did not bother to track our food. AND the restaurant was operating at 25% capacity if that. Our food arrives, my calamari is awesome as usual, and hubby cannot believe how tasteless his oysters are. If you are going to serve oysters, at least have the red wine vinegar and shallots as another option for condiments. Hubby thinks the oysters were maybe washed as they had zero oyster taste, just bland. But my real issue was the lobster roll and fries. My friend took 2 bites from the roll and pushed it away which surprised the table. She said it was awful as she could not taste anything????? Is this a theme here with their seafood? Every single person at that table tried the lobster roll and said they would have demanded their money back. We decided to say nothing and leave. I am just so disappointed, and we will NOT be coming back. Why should patrons pay huge prices for awful quality. This was our spot but we will need to find another...:(

an excellent afternoon with friends and a great meal!

By ianshamshey |

A group of work people had been wanting to go to Crave UWS for some time and we finally got a date together where everyone could go. i had been to the one on the East side but since many people in our group were coming in from out of town, the west side location was going to be easier for them. We had a reservation for 10 people for this nautically themed seafood restaurant. Because we were so many people, we decided on a prix fixe menu. We were seated as soon as everyone had arrived. it is a nice sized space with a bar area in the front with some tables and lean to's for people only having drinks. Once seated, we ordered drinks which were delicious. It was a real bonus since we were able to sample everything of the choices provided. Shrimp on ice with cocktail sauce arrived with the most delicious sticky buns. Lobster salad followed with a great chicken dish [the meat falling away from the bone]. My favorite were the fish tacos which had a great kick to them [a little overwhelming for some] For dessert, we had warm chocolate chip cookies with vanilla ice cream and coffee or tea for those who wanted it. We were given ample time to sit and talk and there was no rush for us to leave. This is predominately a seafood restaurant although there are other options. Check the menu before deciding to go Drinks are priced accordingly. It was a wonderful afternoon with friends and I would recommend and return.

Our never fail go to place for fresh seafood & fun!

By RulaNYC |

We love CRAVE! From 5-7pm the Happy Hour oysters are a NYC bargain with a team of shuckers who have been with CRAVE for over 3 years. This UWS CRAVE is soon to celebrate it's 2nd year anniversary and we're praying they stay! Inventive appetizers (Pt. Judith dusted Calamari & Jerk Ribs are our favorite) to start and then the buttery, smoke enhanced cod is perfection. Staff is inviting and fun. A medium sized restaurant that doesn't overwhelm with too much noise and the upper level in the back offers an even more intimate dining experience. Cozy & warm ambience.

Simply Amazing!!

Unbelievable seafood creatively prepared. Highly recommend the calamari, barramundi, swordfish, crab pasta and black squid ink spaghetti. Service was superb.

Greta seafood and brunch..

By kik2 |

Found this place wandering around the upper west side in NY. Oysters were top notch (a buck each, good price!). Brunch was very tasty...salmon eggs benny was delicious and came with a nice salad. Portions were a nice size, not overly big, which is perfect for brunch. Try the cucumber spritz. Very refreshing..great service, nice atmosphere. Money well spent.

Yummy brunch

This place was very cute and fun. It was not very busy, and the wait staff was very friendly. We had brunch here and everything we had was delicious.

Happy Hour $1 Oysters!

By Andrew K |

Wow! Come early and get a dozen -- over ten varieties: I had Malpeques, Umamis and St. Simons -- all briny and delicious. The Barramundi ($30) was a big filet with pomegranate seeds and cauliflower, cooked perfectly. The wine, Cote de Gascogne ($8!) was fine. I couldn't resist the Carrot Cake with ice cream ($10) along with a Latte ($4.75). Service was on a par with the best I've ever experienced. I'll be back -- with family and friends.

Highly Overrated!

By Relee54 |

Went there for Oyster Happy Hour with a pal. They would only let us order 12 oysters at a time. They must have been out harvesting the oysters, cause each dozen took 45 minutes to arrive. Should have stopped at that point, as my appetizer order of grilled octopus was rubbery and inedible. I am a big cephalopod fan, but this was the worst octopus dish I ever had anywhere. Not only that, the purple grilled potatoes that were the accompaniment were so carbonized and black, you could not even stick a fork in them. If you want good seafood in NYC, walk on by this overrated place!

Oh so super, oysters, wine and great service.

By BarbWas |

Good food, excellent wine at a fare price and super service. The staff was so friendly. We had the Muscat for the wine paring per recommendation. It was an excellent choice. If you enjoy seafood, especially oysters this is a go to place. If you have any questions about oysters, talk to Jeremy. He is a wealth of information. We did samplings of a number of oysters recommended by him and they were super. We have not been fans of west coast varieties but Jeremy suggested we try them. They were excellent. I had the ahi tuna for an entree which was outstanding.

Our Best Meal in NYC

By Scott G |

My wife and I visited NYC for 8 nights in October 2018. We were bawd initially in Mid Town and latterly in the Upper West Side. For our last night we chose to eat at Craves having read some great reviews about it. We were not disappointed. The Margarita to start was superb, we shared some local oysters then moved on the probably the best Calamari that we have ever had......and we eat lots of calamari! Spicy and succulent. We both then had the seared Tuna as main followed by two superb puddings. Top top top.....just like our server. Nothing to fault.

Good seafood on UWS

By Jon |

Excellent food, good service, good to have a good seafood restaurant in the neighborhood. We will definitely return. The "cookie" that comes with the supper menu is understated. it is a large freshly-baked cookie with ice cream. Definitely a good end to the meal.

GREAT FOOD

Great food and great atmosphere....one of the quietest restaurants Iveever been in. It was a pleasure being able to hold a conversation at the table and not have to speak loudly !

A Quiet, Soothing Brunch Spot on the UWS

By EatWithAnnie |

I knew this resto was popular and well-reviewed, and that it had just started brunch. First of all they too reservations for brunch, and our party of 6 with 2 kids really appreciated that! The restaurants was busy but never too crowded, and quiet enough to talk to each other. I had a slamon sashimi salad and a half doz Wellfleet oysters, which were great; the kids each had a bowl of Cavatelli with a great home0made tomato sauce, I've forgotten what everyone else had--but all was wonderful. We finished up with a wonderful dessert of a warm, home-made chocolate chip ice cream with house-maid vanilla ice cream and everyone loved it! A really, really good restaurant.

Fresh and fantastic

By artlovernyc22 |

Great oyster happy hour every day of the week! What makes this so special is you get to chose your oysters, rather than being given what a restaurant offers. Excellent raw and cooked seafood. A hidden cove of culinary treasures!

Just OK

By Mark G |

Crave is new to our neighborhood so it's been crowded since it opened a few months back. The crowds have finally died down so we thought we'd give it a try on a Friday night. The vibe was good, the service great but the food, nothing special. The oysters did not have much flavor, the Octopus a bit chewy, it was a it pricey, too. Been there, done that, won't be back, too many places to try in NYC.

I would avoid the raw bar items next time.

By Donald S |

Recommended by a friend, I explored the website and l liked the dinner and lunch menus. I wanted the octopus. Turns out there is a different brunch menu on weekends, which was a disappointment. Still 100 or more wines to choose from, but not too many food choices, and most weren’t too interesting (mixed with eggs or a sandwich). So we went with raw bar items ordering the “shark” for the table. While the shrimp were okay and clams were good, the oysters didn’t seem quite right and one was bad and I had to spit it out. I didn’t want to risk eating more. The crab legs were over cooked and dry and also smelled and tasted “off.” So that was a waste of $45. I wouldn't risk raw seafood there again. So we ordered the lobster pasta and then fried fish sandwiches to be safe. The $22 lobster pasta was quite good. The fish sandwiches were just okay. IMO the fish should have been a bit larger and nicer for and $18 sandwich. The ambience was nice and the service was very good. Based on the raw items that were horrible, I am a little afraid now about going back for dinner.

Superb fish...but...

By AHL67 |

Perhaps unsurprisingly, as a self-proclaimed Fishbar, Crave does fish well. Really well. Indeed, had they simply handed me a glass of wine and the day's market fish, unadorned, I would have left completely pleased: the fish itself was among the best, most perfectly cooked pieces of fish I have had the pleasure to eat. That glorious piece of fish was embedded, unfortunately, in an experience that left much to be desired -- so whereas the fish itself would earn five enthusiastic stars, the experience on the whole garners only three. The pace of the meal was weirdly uneven-- we were seated promptly and given drinks promptly, but then waited an hour for either the bread or the appetizers to arrive. We were not forgotten -- our water glasses were refilled several times -- but no food appeared until I finally asked, more than an hour after we sat down, if we could please at least have some bread to go with our water. Appetizers came shortly thereafter, and then the race was on: our entrees were delivered the moment that our appetizer plates were whisked away (which was literally before the last person put down their fork). And then there were the vegetables. Perhaps as a consequence of paying so much attention to achieving perfection with the fish, anything that was not fish seemed to be left wanting. The Little Gem salad-- described on the menu as being snap peas, radishes, and green goddess dressing-- was a pile of entire leaves of red leaf lettuce, 4 gigantic slices of somewhat tasteless radishes and a few buried snap peas. It wasn't that it was bad (the dressing, for example, was quite delicious, as were the snap peas) but it could have been a whole lot better with a different ratio of vegetables and a more delicate composition. It felt like a missed opportunity. The aforementioned piece of fish was buried under a thick layer of radicchio and artichokes, making the experience feel a bit more like an archeological dig than a meal. I adore radicchio, but it is easy to overdo -- and they overdid. And then there were the artichokes, which were woody to the point of being inedible-- a person could (and did) chew for a good five minutes without making a dent. Rather than complementing or highlighting the delicate taste and texture of the fish, the vegetables seemed intent on obscuring it. On the bright side, though, I was richly rewarded for persevering through the radicchio and artichokes to find what lay beneath: at the risk of repeating myself, it was a fine piece of fish. All that said, I would try Crave again. It's possible that the service just reflected an off night (or some kitchen-timing mishap), given the other positive reviews and the general friendliness of the staff. And inedible artichokes are a small price to pay for a piece of fish that good.

Delicious food , good service.

My cousin who lives in New York took me there when I visited this week. The service was good, yet relaxed. The food was absolutely delicious. Great portion size and loads of choice on the menu. Would definitely return.

The Best...UWS!

By Mike P |

Can't say enough good things about this place. From start to finish it was fantastic. Excellent food and service. The place also had a very good feel to it. Not that jam packed, over crowded feel you get in so many NYC restaurants. We had the grilled octopus, kale salad and salmon. The best we've had! Will certainly return.

Crave Fishbar for brunch -- Just okay.

By Rose_Kavalier |

We went for Sunday brunch. The restaurant was practically empty. The service was very good. The avocado toast was way too salty and the crab toast was bland. The shrimp and grids were very good. The other guests said their dishes were all good. I will probably try this restaurant again but nothing wowed me.

Take a pass

By Barbara K |

I had one of the worst meals recently this past Saturday night. This is a seafood restaurant but you couldn't taste the seafood- only the sauces. We began with seafood enchiladas. The only thing that you could taste is the sauce on the enchiladas. The fish special was rockfish and again all you could taste was the sauce. We also had the tuna and the sauce was overwhelming. I love tuna but could not finish the small portion because of the sauce. My husband had the filet, but the filet was cut into thin slices. The filet would have been better if it had been a large piece. If I am spending $150 for dinner, I expect the food to taste better.

Excellent food. Great price

By D J |

My friend and I hit their happy hour. Cocktails were beautifully refreshing. The oyster shooters were fun and tasty. The entrees and desserts were excellent as well. And all for under $100 for two people.

Where have you been all my life?

By MimiManhattan |

I'm tempted NOT to write this because I live around the corner and don't want a great thing to become worn out overnight. But a place as thoughtful and, frankly, good as Crave Fishbar needs to know it's hitting the right buttons. Lovely welcoming open atmosphere, gracious and professional -- and not intrusive -- staff, and interesting, fresh and delicious food and wine. My new neighborhood standby inspires loyalty and commitment from the very start.

Not great tonight

By AmyC723 |

Generally love this restaurant. Been here many times. Had a fabulous English waiter who was a lot of fun. But three strikes against Crave UWS- first, the tuna entree must be avoided at all costs. It was slathered in way too much sauce and when I was able to rescue the tuna medallions from the sauce the pieces were mushy. Yucky sauce. Pick something else. Second, the red snapper was too dry. But I guess that happens. Third, the decaf coffee was undrinkable. Disappointed.

My new favorite. The best

My new favorite. The best oysters I ever had. Mazin (sorry for the spelling) really ours hit hear in making awesome cocktails. My new go to every time I go back NYC...

Excellent food and exceptional service

By MTR14 |

We went to Crave Fishbar before a concert with a family group. The waiter was very helpful in terms of wine and food recommendations, and was very patient with a finicky member of our party. The grilled octopus appetizer had a really nice char but we thought it could have been a bit more tender. The barramundi entree, however, was perfect, with a pistachio and pomegranate gremolata.

CRAVE FISHBAR REFUSED TO SEAT SENIOR CITIZENS

By syl219 |

We stopped there around 4:30 on Sunday May 13th and were told that they opened at 5. I learned later that they open at 4 on Sundays. We returned around 5:30, the room was almost empty and they refused to seat us stating that all tables were waiting on reservations. There was nothing offensive about our appearance, clean jeans, shirts. I sincerely hope that someday someone will be rude to their grandparents.

Outrageously bad food

By bigearslargeyes |

We ordered a dozen oysters for delivery. They were tiny tiny and filled with sand, not even a full bite. And when I did eat one , it was inedible. We also ordered cauliflower. It was over cooked and drenched in butter. I have never tossed out take out food before. Don’t go. Don’t order.

Mom's birthday: good spot!

By mkd_travelmania |

Second time there: loved it so. Seafood is excellent and fresh. MUST HAVE: the lobster curry (almost asiatic with lemongrass and basil touches, so delicious and very taste. Not spicy). Prawns Agra Diavolo also great. The Icelandic cod tender and perfectly paired with fiddlehead ferns and farro. The barramundi is a safe bet. Cavatelli & burrata for the vegetarians are also good. Skip the spare ribs (trying to hard to please. Plus it's a seafood restaurant. Should have known better....) the decor is FAB! Loved the soft creamy teal walls, the blackboard mural, the bar area. Such a different twist on the maritime theme (no navy or red in sight!) plaid pillows in sand and soft teal, raffia lamps, yet still feels sophisticatedly casual and marine. Well done! Will go back.

Best Oysters & Clams in New York!

By Richard J |

As an oyster and clam lover, I have sampled several restaurants in New York City that feature both. Crave Fish Bar on the upper west side of Manhattan is, far and away, the best of them all. A friend and I always go during happy hour, which is from 4 PM to 6 PM since the oysters and clams are much less expensive than during regular dinner time. There are a variety of oysters to choose from and the servers are usually very knowledgeable about the differences so they are helpful when selecting among them. My raw bar favorite are cherrystone clams which are always fresh, delicious, and HUGE! There have actually been occasions when it felt necessary to cut the clams in half so that they could more easily fit in our mouths! They have a wonderful menu with many, many other choices beside oysters and clams, however, that’s almost all I ever eat there. Obviously, highly recommended. You won’t be sorry you visited.

Cocktails, buzz and fresh, sustainable fish

The Best of the Best

By Hokie67 |

We were staying around the corner at the Lucerne and had walked by 'Happy Hour' row several times searching out a dinner spot. We had a drink almost next door at the Gin Mill and decided that we try Crave Fish and their Happy Hour... 1/2 price drinks and $1 oysters. Also, I had seen that they had grilled octopus, one of my favorites, on the menu. We arrived a little after 6:00 and were quickly seated in the back room and Emily greeted us promptly and took our drink orders... glasses of Sav Blanc. We both looked straight to the oyster listing. We decided quickly to share a dozen... two each of: Big Rock, No 9, Blue Point, Montauk Point, Malpeque and St Simon. We sipped our wine in anticipation. The oysters came circled on a bed of ice... two by two's in a south to north order. We agreed that the only oysters that we had better were ones that we ate straight from their beds in Vancouver as we picked and opened on site. Totally fresh, icy cold swimming in their juices. Our favs were the Malpeque and No. 9's by a nose. The octopus came only as a small plate so I paired it with the brussells sprout side. While my wife went with the grilled salmon. The octopus was charred perfectly... flavorful and tender. My wife's salmon was towards the rare side, but simply melted in the mouth. The sprouts were crispy and very good as my wife ate most of them, while I ate her green beans and potatoes. Add in two more well-poured SV's and it came to $99.00. That's some Happy Hour... and I think we were the happiest folks there. We'd go back... and almost did. .

Great addition to the UWS

I read about this restaurant in my alumni magazine and decided to check it out. I was not disappointed. The restaurant was spacious by NYC standards and clearly marks the gluten free items. The food was great, tasty and fresh. I am definitely planning to go back.

Nice Place in a Hard Time for NYC Restaurants

By CarolynNYC |

NIce place, nice food, fair prices, friendly service, music is not overwhelming, nice mix of people. Decor is even...nice. Fish tacos with buttermilk dressing were delicious---4 is perfect for two. FRENCH FRIES...not something I normally swoon over: big fat steak fries and so hot/fresh/salty/yummy. Good drinks (small but lethal Margarita). My dad got a lobster roll the first visit--a little pricy for just lobster (no sauce, zero) on a roll (but I guess lobster roll fans like that). He enjoyed my fish tacos more. Second visit: he had a plate of pricy tuna over "corn and potatoes" and some sauce. The tuna was perfect, best ever. Two bites of potato under it was great. There was at least a cup too much corn whatever it was, though. I told him to give up and keep eating the fries. They gave us a freshly baked YUMMY chocolate cookie to go (gigantic). Can;t wait to go back.

Amazing #oystergram happy hour

By Deborah L |

We came here on the recommendation of a friend and very much enjoyed our visit. It's a local's restaurant and the oyster happy hour ($1-1.50 for fantastic oysters) was a steal. Great wine list as well. I was so full from the oysters that I ordered a side of asparagus and a side of delicata squash for my dinner and was not disappointed.

Oysters, oysters and more oysters

Great oyster happy hour! East coast and West coast oysters for $1.00 each. Freshly sucked, cold salty and delicious! Very nice atmosphere, helpful and happy staff!

Fantastic Oysters and Seafood - Supports sustainable fishing!

By R B |

Just great. Our waitress was simply outstanding. She knew oysters and she knew the menu. Never rushed, but always tentative. The oysters were fresh, came quickly, and perfectly prepared. We also ordered the calamari and shrimp and squid ink pasta. Everything was fresh and prepared to perfection. Crave supports sustainable fishing and that was one of the initial draws but the food and service were top-notch.

Suggested fish bar

By Alberto T |

We went here with my gf for dinner after the visit at the MET. Restaurant is at a walking distance from The natural science museum. Location : 7/10: location like a fancy bar. Since it was a Saturday evening, restaurant was full. Reservation needed. In general nice ambience, but when crowded we found difficult to have a conversation and a bit noisy Menu 8/10: the menu is focused on sea food started and mains. Nice way of combining grilled fish with different dips or sides. The tuna and salmon were perfectly cooked and soft. Desserts are a plus especially the cakes. Good selection of wines, mainly bottles. I would have preferred more availability of glass tasting. Service 7/10: good on average Bill : 7.5/10: overall the price is fair for the quality of the food and considering we are in NY. I found too expensive the wine. Suggested if you like seafood

Try the barramundi

By Watsson |

The half lobster starter was okay -- steamed lobster is steamed lobster -- but the cocktail sauces that accompanied it were very good. The snapper special was okay but the barramundi was out of sight. Save room for the chocolate chip cookie for dessert. One complaint -- they charged $4 extra because I wanted to substitute potatoes for the squash that came with the snapper. Chintzy. On the other hand, the potatoes were terrific.

Awesome oyster place

I’ve been here a few times. The oyster happy hour is worth the trip from jersey. They have a great happy hour selection and generally awesome waiters. Love the place

you can't miss oysters

The oysters happy hour is a must go. You really can't miss it. There is a large selection of them, and you can get oysters from both coasts. Other food is less cheap

Fiery Fish Tacos 🔥

By Aventuriste |

Came for Sunday Brunch. Food was mediocre at best. Ordered the Fish Tacos which were so spicy my eyes teared and my lips were numb for a good 20 minutes! Had to send it back. Also, found it funny that there was on shared salt shaker for the entire restaurant. Best thing about the meal was the dessert at the end. I will say however service was excellent. Our waitress was very attentive to the issues we had and took care of us quickly.

Great Family Brunch at Crave UWS

By Michael U |

Wonderful family celebration at Crave Fishbar UWS. The staff was incredibly warm, engaging and responsive. The food was excellent. Can't say enough good things about our event here.

Very Happy Hour

By Danny L |

Had brunch here last weekend, when the $1 oyster deal rules and is a true bargain. Place was packed, so the numbers of oysters being ordered and shucked led to very slow service. (Our enthusiastic and charming server warned us of this when we ordered and offered subsequent apologies for the fairly lengthy delay.) The oysters, other shellfish, burgers, everything we ate were very good. The people who work there are terrific.

Excellent brunch

By mrh16 |

Good selection of brunch and lunch choices. The fresh pasta with lobster was incredible and at $22 a good buy since egg dishes are in the high teens. Nice atmosphere and very nice wait staff.

Overpriced seafood restaurant

By SaW43 |

In an empty restaurant, we was difficult to get attention from the wait staff. The food also appeared indifferently prepared. The fish was just okay.

Good last minute spot for brunch

By Renata C |

Nice ambiance, and good drinks. Food was also good, but not outstanding. There are better spots in the UWS, but this one is a good option for a last minute reservation or larger groups.

Cool restaurant-ggod service!

By Dixie K |

We are regular visitors to the UWS. We follow the restaurant scene and on this trip Crave was on the list. We enjoyed the restaurant ,our server Taylor was pleasant and attentive, The oysters were great. Wine went down well. A very pleasant evening. We had visited the Mermaid a couple of evenings previously so a comparison was inevitable. We would say that the Mermaid had the edge presentation-wise but don not miss Craze on the UWS

Paradise for oyster lovers

By Dennis S |

We went for oyster happy hour! Never was a term more appropriate. Oysters at $1.00 apiece??!!! YES!!! Plus a decent wine list, with a good cheap choice by the glass white. We gorged! Also had the plancha grilled octopus. Very good, not rubbery. Savory, slightly spicy sauce. The tricolor winter salad was great, with figs, man he go cheese, toasted pumpkin seeds and balsamic vinaigrette. Also a winner was the prawns fra diavalo. Plus a very tasty acorn squash with quest fresco, salsa verde and cilantro. They have several great looking entrees, but with oysters at a buck apiece, we never went that way.

Cute & comfy

By cheryl g |

Cute place on Amsterdam. Came for a bite to eat before a show at Beacon Theater. We were not in a rush and the staff let us linger which was real sweet. We ordered drinks and oysters. Then chilled for a bit before ordering tuna tartare. Then chilled some more before ordering more oysters & salmon sashimi salad. All food was fresh and delicious. Again, the most impressive part was that we were not rushed. Thanks for that.

Fresh Fish and Cool Preparations

By dctravel |

I got the chance to visit Crave with family that live in the area. It is small space, so reservations are definitely recommend (if not required on a Saturday night). Up front is the raw bar, the regular bar, and plenty of seating. We were seated in the back room, which is a little less noisy than up front. The menu is not large, but does have a variety of seafood options. For starters, I got head on prawns in an arribiata sauce over farro (excellent) and other enjoyed the salmon sashimi, For main courses I had the fish of the day, which was himachi with a basil sauce and artichokes. The artichokes were a little chewy, but the fish was excellent. Other enjoyed the Tuna, which was fresh and inviting. For dessert, everyone had there own, with tasty carrot cake, a warm chocolate cookie, a gingerbread cake, and a peanut butter and chocolate cake. All very very good. It is important to note that there were several allergies in our group. The restaurant handled them exceptionally well, guiding those affected in certain directions as orders were taken. They did a great job!

Gone downhill fast!

By FoodTraveler3 |

Used to come all the time, moved away for 6 months, back now and this place has changed for the much worse. Very rude staff today won't seat until one last person in party arrives despite saying we're hungry and plan to order right away and the place being FULLY EMPTY at happy hour on a Thursday. Smells really fishy inside, guess that's why people stopped coming here. Walked 5 blocks up to other Oyster place and it's PACKED - guess the smell scared others away too... maybe rude hostess too. Would not recommend, just based on overwhelming old fishy smell, bad service makes it worse...

Stop reading this and go and eat oysters.

By Ric M |

They have a nice bar which works well if you’re alone. Everything is quite average in New York terms. Pleasant staff, good atmosphere etc. Food is top notch though. I had squid ink pasta which followed salmon sashimi. Both excellent. For desert I had a couple of rounds of oysters which were superb.

Best oyster deal in town, any town, anywhere

By noclvrname |

All things considered, Crave Fishbar is a real find - especially if your are particularly fond of oysters on the half-shell, as we are. Craves $1.00 - $1.50 per oyster early dinner special has to be one of the best in town, any town, any where. A great selection and no restrictions. The only limit is your appetite. Craves' prepared dishes are excellent and reasonably priced. The service is super friendly as one would expect from a local gen like this. My only negative revolves around a suggestion that in addition to their frequent specials that they change their menu a little more frequently so that I can savor of the chef's creations. One suggestion is that you not miss the fried calamari app. One of the best I've had anywhere. Is this upscale white tablecloth dining like Marea - no. Is it a wonderful local-place culinary experience at a reasonable price with genuinely friendly waitstaff - you bet.

Stupendous!

By crunchy_jax |

Went here for a real nice family dinner. All four of us loved the food. Waiter was knowledgeable and very attentive. Would definitely come back.

Very good - lovely food, good atmosphere, no tourists!

By Yvette M |

We ate here when visiting family in New York. It has a friendly, busy atmosphere. Front of house staff delightful - rearranged bookings to accommodate us as we hadn't made a reservation. Waiter Mark very helpful and not pushy. Delicious, fresh food - we had Calamari, Crab tostadas, chicken leg, Cavatelli, sides of sprouts and squash. All delicious although Acorn Squash a little bland and a bit disappointing. A really lovely neighbourhood restaurant - fix the lock on the second bathroom though!

Great seafood

By NycGeorgen |

Excellent menu with fish and shellfish choices. Friendly, knowledgeable service. Very noisy at peak periods except for back part of restaurant.

Happy Hour / Raw Bar

By Robert K |

However you mix the four words; "Happy Hour Raw Bar" it still comes out a good time. The selection of fresh oysters was incomparable - covering both East and West coast - ALL $1/ea. during Happy Hour. The cocktails were spot on and, even though we came just for oysters and drinks everything I saw come out of the kitchen looked amazing. With so many food and drink options on Amsterdam (got to love NYC) Crave is definitely not to be missed. Look for the vintage diving helmet sign.

Fresh Fish in Quaint Place

By Kathleen H |

The restaurant is bigger than you think from the outside. The wait staff was efficient & attentive. Food was excellent. I had the salmon with asparagus, wheat berries & sun-dried tomatoes. It was excellent. I also highly recommend the chocolate chip cookie & ice cream for dessert.

Long wait WITH reservations

By NYCGirl130 |

We arrived on a Sat. night with 6pm reservations. They did not have a table for us and we had to wait 15 min. This was frustrating since we made the reservation and were going to a show after dinner. The bar area was packed, they do a big happy hour but they only had 2 bartenders. We ordered drinks after we got seated at our table and they took forever to come. We ordered oysters and they were brought to the table with a wet print out of the receipt and we were told to look at the receipt to see which ones were which. For the amount you are paying they could tell you which oysters are from where. The rest of the food took a very long time to come out. Twice a food runner tried to deliver food to our table that we did not order. We were getting nervous since we had tickets to a show and needed to leave at a certain time. The food finally came out and we asked for the bill. The bill was incorrect and one of the dishes they had tried to deliver to our table that was not ours was on our bill. We pointed it out to our server who was not apologetic. We got the correct bill, paid, and left. We had been to Crave before, but after this experience we will not be going back. There are many amazing restaurants in NYC that have much better service.

Delicious & Hospitable

Be seduced by the happy hour $1 oyster special that excels in its variety and freshness. Be engaged by a staff that attends with care to make certain all questions are fully answered. Be excited by the entrees that are full flavored and distinctive. On one occasion the salt was too enthusiastic, but the dish was quickly remade to reveal the organic flavors. An adult setting that requires an adult income as quality is not inexpensive. Become someone who Craves a return visit.

Very nice experience! Excellent fish dishes, judged by a Norwegian. Happy Hour small dishes strongly recommended

Solid food and service

We had an early 6pm dinner prior to a show. Food was good, nice table, lively but not too loud. Prompt service. Very reasonably priced. Not wow but solid.

Awesome waitress / food decent

Our friends live in the neighborhood, so we gave Crave a try! The ambience was dark, but comfortable. The apps (grilled octopus was excellent) were good, but the entrees were not quite what we expected. The salmon was tasty. I ordered the fish special, John Dory, and it did not float this fish lover's boat. To their credit, our waitress Natalie, gave us full credit for the JD meal. This was not expected or requested, but very appreciated. Nice gesture, Natalie! Please don't take advantage of their good will.

Excellent dinners twice

Loved the Susie quality tuna entree and the octopus starter. Was seated in a nice rear booth second time which I preferred. Casual atmosphere. Food excellent. Do try.

Crave

If you crave to sit in a quite restaurant this is not for you. If you crave fish this is for you, lots o fish .Now , in all fairness , as I have said before in review, I am not a great lover of the above protein,so a fish restaurant is kind of wasted on me. However I gave it a shot and had the cod which was wonderful as we're all of my friends dishes. No complaints from my fishy friends. However my cod was seated upon a bed of grains with a sauce which was a little heavy almost as I were saying "we know you don't like fish so we are going to disguise it as something else."my fault, I should have said"bring it on I can deal with cod without the mantle of deception." Our waitress gave us great service, if it were only a little quieter I would go back.
