This place is amazing! Every single dish was very very good. The service is attentive and prompt. The waitress was able to give us great suggestions about what to order. The restaurant is very small, not fancy but pretty cute! We love it!

Trendy atmospheric eatery with a real buzz! Takes Korean food to another level. Recommended by a friend who ordered for our group of 4 and all 5 dishes were delicious. My favourites were the deep fried tofu and the blackened cod with miso. Only shortcoming there is only one restroom so expect to queue- boys and girls in it together! Make sure you book

We are here before a 7 o'clock show. Arrived at 5:15 and timing was great with the service. They serve Korean in a tapas like fashion. They skip most of the big shared soups and do not do barbecue. What's great is that take all those flavors - the gal-bi , the bossum and make them into small bit plates or new dishes entirely. There are Kim Chee purine, sliders, but also crispy rice dishes that were all so delicious. Wine selection was very nice with a good sake collection as well.

Booked in advance as it was a Saturday night. We chose dishes based on previous favorites tofu, beef sliders, spicy wings and the egg over rice. Not one dish disappointed. Wasn't completely full but service was excellent right through. Would definitely come back.

Let's start with the food, which was largely excellent - a 4-5 star meal on its own. The spicy wings were delicious, the beef bibim bap was the best I've had, and the kimchi was varied and subtly favored. The sole drawbacks were the vegetarian dumplings, which were bland and unassisted by the dull sauce that came with them, and the soup of the day, which just didn't taste very good. Altogether, the food was delicious. The service was unbelievably bad. I suspect this was only because of the waiter serving us, but the facts remain. While taking our order, he was inattentive and distracted -- we had to repeat several items because he was not paying attention. A few minutes later, he returned to confirm our order and already had it wrong. We corrected him, even pointing to the items on the menu, to ensure it was clear. During the appetizers, we had to ask multiple times for more water as our glasses sat empty and ignored. When the mains came, I showed him on the menu that he had brought the wrong items, specifically stating that he had brought the set menu instead of the special menu, but he disagreed. He said that the soup and kimchi trio came with our dishes (they didn't) and that our crispy rice was underneath the rest of the bibim bap ingredients (it wasn't). He walked away, and that was that. Only when the bill came and we were (over)charged for the set menu did he admit to his mistake. It took 10 minutes for him to remedy the issue and, despite having brought us the wrong dishes such that we did not receive the food we wanted and received other food we did not, we were still charged for the full amount of the dishes we ordered but never received. Realistically, I'll probably go back to Danji. Again, the food is excellent and the terrible service is likely isolated to this single, thoroughly incompetent server. Plus, it's really close to my office. That said, Ippudo Westside is only a block away and, with both great food and great service, is a big step ahead of Danji in satisfying a craving for umami.

Some of the best ribs I've ever had. This is a stylish Korean restaurant, though small so you should definitely have reservations. It was a little pricey too, but the food and service were excellent. Never had so many water refills at a restaurant -- without even asking!

I ordered delivery from here. I had high expectations and found it rather average. I had the wings and the scallion pancake. For small plates it's definitely over priced.

We were looking for place to eat prior to our evening show and this places was recommended to us and is a great little find. The restaurant is small and we made a reservation prior to our arrival. We selected the Danji Favorites for 2 along with the drink pairing. We very much enjoyed the great small plates selections of which our favorites were the Spicy Yellowtail Sashimi, Tofu w/ Ginger scallion dressing, the K.F.C. wings, bulgogi sliders and soy-poached black cod. We felt the drink pairings matched the flavor/spice profiles of the food. From memory, 3 of the 4 drinks included a proseco wine, sweet potato vodka, rice beer.

Had a very memorable meal here three years ago and finally returned to find this place still going strong. A delicious satisfying tasting menu. Fantastic flavours, great textures. Really nothing to fault, this place is very very good.

This was our first time having Korean food and we enjoyed everything we tried. We were there for brunch. I ordered the spicy guava Margarita and I loved it. We then shared the handmade vegetable dumplings, tofu with ginger scallion dressing, and the spicy Korean chicken wings to start. The vegetable dumplings were good - nothing very different than other dumplings we have had. The chicken wings were very good - wonderful flavor and nice and spicy. The tofu with ginger scallion was the winner. Absolutely delicious flavor. We never had anything like it before. I would highly recommend this dish and I am not even a big tofu fan. We then ordered the Chui sit bibim-nap which I had with the beef. It is crispy rice socarrat with marinated vegetables, fried egg and gochujang spicy sauce. Sounds weird but it tasted delicious. You mix everything together and just eat it right out of the skillet. We also had the Bibum guksoo which is spicy buckwheat noodles with kimchi, pork, cucumber and egg. This is a cold dish and was amazing as well. Everything is spicy so if you do not like spice this is not the place for you. The service is lacking. Servers are not attentive and we had to ask multiple times for things even though it was not that busy. They were not friendly either. There are some communal tables so you have to be up for that as well.

This restaurant was easily a go to while in New York City. We stayed very central and had access to many amazing restaurants. I recently had an opportunity to visit South Korea and I found the Hot Stone Bibimbap to be on par if not better in some way. I would not consider this a very traditional Korean experience. They add their own flare to most of the decisions although keeping the root of it all Korean. You also should not expect to BBQ your own food nor receive several amazing sides with your meal. I think this place has great value and great food, if you like Korean give this place a try. It was always busy so DO make a reservation. Another thing worth trying is a traditional rice beer called Makgeolli. gomabseubnida

Fabulous eats and drinks! We made a reservation at 5 pm and our 7-course small plates Dinner for 2 with beverage pairing was DELICIOUS. We were done exactly at 7 pm. Since we did the beverage pairing the total for each of us was $81 without tax and tip (a little over $100 with 20% tip); $53 for the dinner and $28 for the 4-drink pairing (generous pours). We had spicy yellowtail sashimi w crispy potato flakes, tofu with ginger scallion dressing, bossam, spicy korean fire chicken wings, pork sliders, soy-poached black cod, trio of kimchi, white rice, and ice cream. It was AMAZING and I'd go again in a heartbeat.

The food and ambiance is amazing. Dishes here. Are different than any other place I have been. The service is quiet but efficient . Prices are fair and the only thing is that it is basically first come first served. One if the few places worth a wait to eat on west 52 street

Danji opens at 5pm and fills up quickly, so I definitely recommend making a reservation. Ordered 3 dishes from their small menu and 1 dish from the medium, which was pretty satisfying for 2 people looking for a light bite before a show. Various sources recommended the tofu w ginger scallion dressing, garlic honey wings w. sesame seeds and soy-poached black cod w. spicy daikon, so we ordered that and the bulgogi beef sliders. I would order the tofu and wings again. They were pretty amazing. The cod was very good, but I think the daikon was the star of this dish. This dish was a bit salty for me. The sliders were okay. Definitely more spicy than I was expecting, but I like that. I didn't care for the bun they chose and it was also a tad too salty. The service was a little fast on the draw. They don't ask if you are finished with a dish before taking the dish away. The only thing kind of surprising was no complimentary banchan/kimchi, but I guess that's what happens outside of K-town.

Korean tapas that was over the top good. The yellowtail was very fresh with crispy potato flakes and spicy. The bossam was an interesting and delicious (self) wrap into thinly sliced daikon with port belly. That was outstanding. Would definitely go back next time in NYC.

I've come to Danji twice now, both times after seeing a broadway show. Each time my experience has been excellent. Every dish I've ordered has been flavorful. Highlights include the tofu with ginger scallion dressing (which made a fan out of one of my friends who had never been too fond of tofu), the kfc chicken wings, bugolgi sliders (delicious, with just the right amount of seasoning and flavor), shrimp scallion pancake (very crispy), and the kimchi bacon fried rice. For a cocktail I'd recommend the Korean Pear. Service is attentive and friendly. Seating is typical NYC, kind of tight, but manageable. Overall, I'd definitely recommend if you're in the area!

While doing research for our NYC trip staying in Times square a ran across the name of this restaurant. When I asked the concierge she said it was so excellent but she hadn't convinced any guests to try it. It was wonderful! Do make a reservation as it is quite small. We started with yellowtail sashimi with crunchy potato crust, bulgogi silders, and then short ribs. Loved the sashimi and the sliders but the short ribs were not my favorite. They had run out of the cod but that would have been my choice.

Tiny place, completely full and the food was absolutely fantastic. One dish better than the next. I can't wait to go back. Small plates to share, and delicious drinks too.

We dined at Danji based on a TimeOut New York review and we were not sorry we did! The room itself is small, book ahead as it fills quickly. Be prepared for shared tables as well. We were fortunate to time it during restaurant week and were able to sample a variety of dishes. The Quail Egg on rice with spicy cod roe was exceptional. The server indicated it could be "fishy" to some, however I found the flavours to be well-balanced and not overly "fishy" in any way. The texture was incredible with crunch from the nori flakes and the "pop" of the roe adding some uniqueness to the dish. The highlight for me had to be the braised short rib. I could easily take the meat from the bone using my chopsticks - it was that tender. If you're in the area and want something different than the norm, give Danji a try - you will be happy you tried something other than the usual Japanese or Italian.

Great "small plate" Korean food. Full of flavor, interesting menu. The chicken wings, short rib sliders, and black cod were all outstanding, as well the distinctive specialty cocktails on the menu. Small and loud. Make a reservation if possible. Terrific, friendly service. Perfect for a pre-theater meal. Can't wait to go back.

My husband and I had a great dinner at Danji. It is a very small restaurant, but we had a reservation and were seated right away. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable. The Spicy Ginger Margarita was sooooo good! We ordered the tasting menu for 2. We enjoyed every dish. The "KFC" wings that I heard were recommended, did not disappoint. The Tofu with Ginger Scallion Dressing and the Soy Poached Black Cod were delicious! The meal ended with Black Sesame Ice Cream which was an unexpected flavor that we loved. Overall, it was a great dining experience!

My wife and I came here with another couple who had been once before. They'd been talking about it for some time so I was expecting big things. Was I disappointed? Hell no! The food was absolutely superb modern Korean fusion. We ordered 7 different "tapas" style plates and each was top notch. Special mention must go to the pork belly sliders which was like a religious experience! This restaurant is in my all time top 5 and if I ever go back to NYC it's a lock...

A rich menu in a cozy setting. We spent our first NY evening here and as soon as you sit down you realize that you will get some quality food. The portions are fairly small which makes it perfect for a "tapas-style" dinner. The mix between the American and Korean kitchen is interesting and we enjoyed most of the various dishes.

I was wary of choosing Danji, a tiny Korean restaurant, for dinner with our two teenage grandchildren. I was new to Korean food myself, but I need not have worried. The restaurant was packed on a frosty Thursday evenning. They use every bit of the small space, so you may find yourself at a table with another party, as we did. All doubts disappeared as the food arrived: spicy yellowtail sashimi, rice cake with Berkshire sausage, Korean fire wings, garlic honey wings, pork belly sliders, bulgogi beef sliders, bossam, kimchi, toasted rice ice cream, black sesame ice cream and more. Every bite was delicious and perfectly prepared, and the service was attentive in the tight space. This one is on our list for good!

We had a lunch at DanJi with my young children. All their dishes (almost all) are spicy and no other good main dishes are offered without adding spicy stuff. I am Korean but this is a little bit odd for korean restaurant. Food was fine. Service was so-so.

It is a VERY small restaurant so having a reservation is a must especially for Friday or Saturday evenings. We tried the KFC wings, trio of kimchi, bulgogi slides and the soy poached black cod with daikon. The wings were salty but not very memorable. Everything else we tried was great. Highly recommend. The spicy ginger margarita was great as well as the wines by the glass.

A unique find amongst the zillions of restaurants in New York City. Small plate servings of exceptional Korean food in a small and intimate setting.

MIchelin starred Korean eatery! - Simple. Striking. Attractive. Refreshing. An amazing find! Love this place in midtown NY. Sad that they lost their Michelin star but still really good food. Went there for restaurant week this summer. They have some really interesting EtOh options that you must check out. For the food itself, it was a 4 course meal. Got the KFC spicy wings along with spicy yellowtail sashimi. Never have i had sashimi as delicious as that with such an interesting taste that you want to keep eating more and more of it. Next we got the bossam and the galbi-gui for main course both of which were really really good, though I think the bossam might've won it for me. Soft, flavorful and delicious! The combination of side dishes it comes with makes it all the more amazing. Ok, so if I'm raving so much about this place, why only 4 stars? I'm not really a fan of the tall communal tables that fill the room. Its good if you're with friends but not really if you're looking for something romantic and want to have an intimate conversation. But other than that, this place is amazing and a must go! Next up is their other branch, Hanjan!

This was an extremely satisfying meal. We arrived 10 minutes early and there were no seats at the bar but our table was ready. The place is tiny. You sit at the same tables or literally inches away from others. So if you are at all claustrophobic, then this is not the place for you. However, it is worth it for the food. We had the yellowtail sashimi with potato flakes, shrimp and scallion pancake, kimchi, spicy KFC wings and black cod. For two females, this was enough food to share. The yellowtail was delicious but 4 small bites. I would still get again because the bites were delicious. The pancakes were tasty and fried and loaded with shrimp. This was a big portion. We had a hard time deciding between these and the sweet potato noodles. Our neighbors at the next table got the noodles. They looked good. You wouldn't go wrong either way. Wings are amazing. Everything has a nice kick of heat but not overwhelming. Perfect. Cod was good, big portion but not as flavorful as I was hoping. They have a fun cocktail list. Guava margarita is very tasty. Service was not overly friendly but very efficient.

Excellent food and service. Be sure to make a reservation. Fine dining quality food with moderate prices.

Was good food not great. I was a bit disappointed when we walked in and it smelled like overpowering Bleach. Had a six course dinner for 3, loved the first 3 and didn't are doe the last 3. Overall not impressed. It had great ratings But not the night I went.

Came across this place on a recent visit to NYC and was impressed - mostly with the inventiveness and ingenuity than the food itself. It was brunch and I had no booking - no issue - sat at the bar! Tried the Chul-sot Bimbim-bap - extra crunchy hence the "chul-sot". It was good and served with a sunny side egg - food was good - the only complaint I had to order the Kim chi side to get Kim chi - that is not really Korean protocol. And the side - for $6 - was far too much Kim-chi! OK - so I forgive them that - food was still good - and despite some other comments - the Kim-chi is good. Highlight - the Kim chi inspired Bloody Mary - bloody marvellous! Come here for that alone!

We came in on Monday night around 8, hoping to find a table for two. It's a very small, hole in the wall. It was super crowded and loud. The tables are narrow and were packed. We leaned against the wall and tried to make ourselves as thin as possible so that the wait staff could pass. We hung our coats on hooks on the wall. Any extra garments were going to make the tables feel that much more claustrophobic. But all of this was worth it for the food and service. Danji is particularly inventive with their Korean dishes and their staff is just lovely. And thankfully by the time our table was open, the restaurant had almost cleared out and we had both comfort and privacy during our meal. It is pricey - we paid over $100 for two folks without tip, but we did step away with the next day's lunch, our leftovers.

This was our best meal in the city during our trip. The space was quaint and stylish. The servers were friendly, attentive, and informative. While the menu was limited, the food was amazing, and the wine list was well-designed. We dined early so we could catch a show, and the staff was very accommodating. I can't wait to get back.

Been to many korean restaurants but this is definitely the best. Great dishes and atmosphere. Would definitely go back!

This tiny, cozy restaurant is near the theater district, which means that I recommend a reservation if you want to eat before curtain time. The service was outstanding, the food was perfect, and the sake selection was excellent. What can I say? I'll be back...

Had a late dinner after a broadway show, recommend having reservations, small space, great service. I lived in South Korea for two years, I was not disappointed with Danji. The kimchi trio is excellent, pork spicy sliders, sweet potato noodles and black cod meal. My only suggestion is to either loose the potatoes in the black cod dish or jazz them up in some way. Will definitely return.

Tried about 8 different dishes. Nothing disappointed. Tried the pancakes, cod, salad, spicy veg dumpling, rice cakes. Enjoyed it all. The only dish that we did not enjoy was the seafood stew. The French fries were not bad, but just overpriced fries. The cod was the best dish. An overall thumbs up by the group. The sashimi as a first dish was amazing as well. By the way, the service was awesome. So highly recommend this restaurant

Went there on a recommendation and it was delicious! Service was second to none. We had the banquet & every dish was mouth watering. Would highly recommend this little gem. Tip - make sure you book as only a small but quaint establishment.

Excellent food and my neighborhood "go to" spot when I have family and friends visiting NYC. Small plates are great for sharing and the restaurant overall has a warm and inviting feel.

Took the signature menu for two. It was absolutely crazy, so tasty! The tofu was amazing, so were the sashimi and the black cod. I couldn't recommend enough this place!

What a great meal! Tried to sample everything. Reasonable prices. Excellent service. Make a reservation.

Danji is fine. If you are in the theater district and are hankering for some homestyle Korean food, you could do a lot worse than Danji. But that's not really what you want to hear about a restaurant right? You want it to wow you, invite you to try dishes and flavors you couldn't find elsewhere. Provide the best example of dish A or drink B so that you can recommend this new find widely. This is not that place. We did the tasting menu as it was a good deal and many of the dishes that appealed were there. The starter sashimi was fine but the accompaniments completely masked the flavor of the fish. The tofu was surprising and very good. It had an interesting marshmallow like texture in both the fluffiness and the bit of chew - I've not had tofu that way before and liked it a lot. Sliders were fine. Nothing special. Bossam was a disappointment as the slices were too large for one bite and the kimchi did not seem to be house made. It lacked a differentiating element to keep it from being just the same ole same ole pork belly dish. We also like the rice cake dish but the meal got quite heavy at that moment. It was a lot. The trio of kimchi was underwhelming. I'd be surprised if it was housemade. I make and eat a lot of kimchi and this was not en par. The rice was also overcooked and gummy, as if they didn't properly rinse it. We had advised the staff that we needed to be in and out on the quicker side from the start, and the wait for our final dish, the soy cod, was about 20 minutes. When it finally arrived, it was a mangled jumble of fish bits on top of two enormous cylinders of daikon and drowning in over-reduced soy sauce. It was seriously fishy in the "it's the bloodline part of the fish that's about 3 days past prime...let's hack it up and see if they notice" sense of fishy, visually unappealing (it looked as if they gave us the remains of having cut actual fillets for other customers) and inedibly salty. Check please.

My wife and I shared a wonderful Sunday brunch here with numerous kim chee appetizers and creative entrees.
Phenomenal
Really really good. NY prices but you get top food and good service here. Would recommend tasting menu to get a good range. Everything I had was awesome
