Nice ambiance, friendly service and great food make it a good choice for hungry people walking on the High Line in NTC. The prices were reasonable and the waiters friendly so check it out

This is our go-to restaurant for dinner. The Souvlaki Tacos are an unusual twist to a typical taco and so good! They also infuse whiskey in house, we've had the fig and banana too and both were great.

I was visiting New York with my friend and stopped at a place next door for lunch. They said ‘sorry, we don’t open until 11am’. I looked at the time.....10:59. They asked if we could come back in 15min. We decided to walk down the block and came upon Death Ave. They seated us right away and immediately served water and took our drink order. The food was delicious.....we ordered from the brunch menu. Steve was especially friendly and welcoming! Highly recommend!

What a treat to stumble upon this place in the food desert around the Javitz Center. Went for lunch and were very pleasantly surprised. Souvlaki Tacos were spot on and the fries were amazing. Cozy atmosphere with lots of nooks and crannies.

I am giving a 1 star rating for 2 reasons: 1) they intentionally mislead customers and 2) the staff is poorly trained. In my opinion, please consider this carefully before going to this place. And the bottom line: they try to charge an extra ~4% to your bill and you don't know until its too late. I recently went there for brunch with my girlfriend because I lived in the neighborhood for years and always wanted to try it. Food and drinks were definitely a little pricey but portions were big enough where I wasn't too upset at the value. When I got the bill, there was a confusing message at the top that paying cash would give a 3.95% discount but paying card would result in a 3.95% charge. Wait, so that's almost an 8% swing, something is going on here. And there was nothing on the menu or in the place that said anything about this. I asked the waitress. She wasn't sure. Wait what, how am I the only one to ask this? I asked the manager. She said cash payers would get a discount but there wouldn't be any charge for paying card. Ok, this to me is fine. No downside, only upside. So for my $75 bill, I paid cash. When I gave the cash, the manager passed this onto a different waiter, who was completely and utterly confused what to do. Do I give a discount? Do I not? He had no clue. He asked our waitress. She had no idea. Then he asked the manager I spoke to and after about 5-6 minutes, a transaction was done. My change? $5. Of course. Wait, I thought I was going to get a discount (I asked the manager again). She said she was confused and actually what they do is charge 3.95% more for any credit card transaction. This is where I have a problem. Basically everyone pays in credit cards. And they only bring this up now? If they clearly marked it in the place or menu or something (even being told when I come in), maybe I'd be okay. But just add the credit card cost to your prices. Don't nickel and dime me and only tell me when I get my bill. This is unacceptable. I asked, do others complain about this? The managers response: Yes I asked, ok, so are you okay with posting this on yelp, google, etc? She tried to explain the policy me again. I said, No, I get it. I'm just really confused. I don't think I'm going to come back ever again. She said "Ok" and walked away. No further apology or anything from her. So we left. All in all, this place is obviously trying to charge people extra money and only letting them know when they get the bill. Their staff is completely clueless on the policy. This place is clearly not ready to run a functional brewery/restaurant and need to take several steps to fix the problems they have. Hopefully after that, people can go back and enjoy this place. But unfortunately, I will never be back.

Used Yelp to make a reservation at the restaurant. The place is a brewery with a small restaurant attached. But when we arrived there was a sign in the window: Sorry We're Closed. The bar next door was open. I came in to find out if the reservation was for the bar but it turned out that no. The reservation was for the restaurant next door. When we came in it was uncharacteristically empty for a Sunday night. Usually places are not empty even on a Sunday night. The food was amazing. Octopus, Hellenic BBQ, Fries. All done to perfection with craft beer to drink is heaven. But the nagging feeling of the signs in the window stuck around. But it's just me.

Death Ave is an absolute must if you are visiting New York. I’m a big craft beer fan and I brew all grain myself. I’d stopped by with a friend to try the cask ales they brew on site. The place itself is very impressive, a real rustic vibe with lots of reclaimed wood beams, subtle lighting and bare stone walls. The beers on draught come straight from bright tanks in the basement and the cask ales mounted behind on wall is a great touch. There is an outdoor bar and dining area with very comfortable chairs and lantern lights, which is fantastic in the evening. The staff were very well informed about the different beers they brew on site and were able to recommend the perfect beers for us to try. My friend isn’t a big beer drinker but she was served a great pale ale that she really enjoyed. I tried a 7% IPA and was very impressed. Strong and very hoppy, the way it should be. We enjoyed the drinks so much we decided to stay for dinner. The dinner menu has a strong Greek flavour to it. My lamb shank was cooked to perfection as was my friend’s Greek BBQ dish. For a brew pub, they have a decent wine list and a good range of cocktails. I stayed with beer through dinner but my friend tried a great Merlot. The service was excellent, the staff are very attentive and more than willing to answer my questions on their brewing process. I will definitely be back to try their brewery tour. Highly recommended.

Been here a couple of times. Beer is good ambiance was nice tonight not so good. Empty bar .... Every seat you couldn't sit at. Why who knows ??? Went next door, they almost fell over trying to give us a seat. This is NYC you don't have to go far to feel welcome and have a great time

Amazing place! Food, staff, service and decor all spot on! We sat in one of the booths and it’s so intimate and cosy! I had the tacos and they were to die for! Even better if you make a reservation you get a free dessert!! Staff all charming and happy to recommend drinks and food! Recommend for a romantic meal

We saw a sign advertising homebrewed beer so we popped in. Turns out they didn't have beer brewing at the time but they had a good selection of beer on tap so we stayed. Great service, yummy food, cool atmosphere.

Had a snack here before a concert at Madison square garden. Very good service, good beer and a reasonable selection of light snacks. Ate in a booth which allowed us to talk easily. The restaurant has interesting decor and seems to go on for ever

Picked this restaurant because of its name and it was close to the High Line (a must do when you go to NYC). The decor is rustic and chic, they have a great selection of beer, but were out of 3 choices. The menu is nice, not a massive selection which is good. The food is well prepared and tasty. The sever we had was friendly, but the food delivery was a little off. This is a nice place and we enjoyed it

I work right around the corner from this bar and it is my absolute favorite spot to go after work. Their beers are delicious (and the food!!). Pierre is the BEST!! So friendly and attentive. Love this place, highly recommend.

We hosted an event for over 100 people, kids to grandparents, and everyone had a wonderful time. It's a beautiful space, the food is amazing, the servers are capable, fun and efficient. It's a great place to host a party. Or just go for a meal. You'll love it.

The new tap room is a loud and popular spot with a mild and smooth IPA. Pierre was excellent despite the crowded space. I'd highly recommend the jalapeño margarita and the savory sweet pitza. Expensive, but it's Manhattan. You gotta expect that.

Great mediterranean dinner - booked this for a last minute business team dinner and they were able to accommodate our group. Great service and great food.

Spotted this place from the High Line on our first day in NYC - I was attracted by it brewing its own beers. It does have a nice beer garden around the back. I was going to order a Kolsch style beer but they didn't have any so I tried an alternative. My wife had a gin. We ordered the steak and chicken tacos - they were good but a little pricey for what they were. We then had another drink - a different beer and a wine. We were surprised to see the wine cost $16 when we got the bill. In fact drinks cost more than the food. We realise that drinks are expensive in NYC but there wasn't anything truly special about these. Put it down to experience I suppose. We passed a Little Spain eatery in Hudson Yards on the way back and were amazed by the prices being charged there so take care and look out for Happy Hour and Lunch deals

Perfect little brewery to stop and refuel and a walk on the Highline. Great snacks - West Coast IPA had rich depth. Friendly staff - cool clientele - don’t these people work? It’s 2pm on a Friday!

I made a reservation and didn’t realize there was a bar side and a restaurant side. There was no menu for food. When we asked if there was food they could have told us the restaurant is next door. The bartender with his top bun was not the friendliest nor helpful. We decided to not go to restaurant because of that experience. Will not be going back. Went to another restaurant in the neighborhood and had an amazing time.

As we walked the Highline we spotted the sign for this pub/wine bar/ brewery/ restaurant. We came back in the evening and tried their selection of beers. The Cod Sliders were incredible perfect pairing with their pale ale. They had some interesting seating areas, the service was good. I would go back next time we are in NY. It's only a 15 minute walk from the 28th street/7th avenue metro redline. It was 12 years since we had been to NY the metro greatly improved, 10 blocks zip by in 15 seconds. A trip only costs $3:20. So no excuses for not going to this great pub. (One block from start of north entrance of the Highline. Have fun.

Met a few friends for after work drinks and dinner and couldn't believe I never came here before. Absolutely stunning rustic vibe with magnificent large garden in the back. Service was solid and the drinks we were reccommended were amazing, I really enjoyed the Death Ave Tea cocktail with chamomile. Everything we ordered was fresh and very flavorful, the standout for me was the chicken entree which was one of the best i've ever had and highly recommend it to anyone going. Was the perfect ambiance for a great evening to catch up with friends and I'll definitely be going back often. Only negative was the location was a bit out of the way for me but it is right next to The Highline so some might find it convenient.

Friday afternoon was lovely. Great soft music, wonderful wait staff, nice cocktails in cool venue. Would definitely return

We found this place by chance and made a reservation on OpenTable. We were pleasantly surprised with a menu that was different, and service that was unbelievably great. Sometimes you get lucky taking a chance on a place that you know nothing about, however, in this case, we were extremely lucky. We will make a point to be back as much as possible because they made our night so special!

Came here for dinner on a Saturday night around 615P. I had a dinner reservation for 2. My only issue is where they tried to seat us - at a table that was no bigger than a foot and a half square tops. I asked the hostess if she was kidding. She said no. They have no business trying to sit two people for dinner at this table that could barely fit 2 glasses and a single small plate. Furthermore, we would have been sitting on top of another couple where we might as well introduced ourselves because we would have been eating dinner together. I asked for another table in the bar section. Not as pleasant of an atmosphere but the table was normal sized. Food was good. Had the octopus and the cod. Had to pin down the waitress for a second round of drinks. Typical NYC restaurant trying to squeeze as many people in a tight space as possible. Menus are a bit worn out so hard to read, but all in all the food was good.

The food was good and the place is very charming. Not all dishes on the menu were available since I ate there when they changing the menu from lunch to dinner.

A decent little bar with a really night back yard to enjoy a few drinks and conversations, service was ok and the drinks menu was pretty good

Food great, service very accommodating, décor interesting and welcoming. Nice garden at rear of restaurant, but on the day we were there too hot to sit outside. Instead, server found us a comfortable semi-private alcove in main room. Overall, a very nice experience.

Came in on a Friday afternoon with my husband for a bite to eat. The setting was very welcoming and cozy. Service was great and the food was delicious! A little noisier than anticipated for a Friday afternoon, but given the beautiful weather I suppose I can understand why it was a little more livelier than usual. We will definitely be returning!

quick service, nice place to get a meal before your leisurely walk on the Highline, small portion food, nice brewed beer, outdoor space available but a little noisy quieter inside the dining room area

Nice selection of drinks and apps had the basil gimlet and the shared spreads app. perfect..nice decor.. fancy without being pretentious...outside seating if you choose... great service and located near entrance for high line walk.. win win

First: I am from Kansas City, where the steak is usually second to none, but I had my best steak ever here at Death Avenue. Very flavorful, tender, and juicy. Know what it also cam efrom? Freaking truffle fries, that's what. And it was a pretty sizeable helping of really, really good truffle fries, too. The service were really nice and fast, and the interior of this place beautifully combines old-timey wood with modern lighting to create a rather interesting atmosphere. If you're looking for a place to eat in NYC that won't be packed with tourists and boring, then go here, since it's very good and isn't insanely popular-- yet.

A nice stop after the Highline buy very pricey for bar food and beer. Three of the beers on menu were not available, but what we selected was delicious albeit $11. We are locals and we're disappointed based on price and small menu.

Came here for cocktails - amazing wines, great flat bread pizza (we had the margarita and highly recommend) and really great ambiance. Great beer selection as well!!!! 10/10 recommend. Pierre was such a sweet bartender!

this is greek style. The ambiance is quite lovely and we were sent to the back where we had a nice private table yet not a private room. We asked for separate checks and the waiter said he could not do that among our large group- maybe ten or 12 but would give some separate checks. does not work so smoothly that way. Prices are high- even drinks will cost you . Food was just ok to me- didnt care for my moussaka. someone shared appetizers and the pita bread appeared freshly made and dips were ok. I think this is a good place to take friends for drinks and light appetizers but be willing to pay - 22 bucks for baby lamb chops I would have gotten but that is not in my budget even with the chicouccuri toppping- sounded good

Great atmosphere at this place! Started off with a cold beer and some fried pickles. Pickles were thick cut and delicious ! Ordered the Feta Burger with fries it was unbelievable! Super large so you better be hungry and the biggest hunk of feta on a burger I have ever seen!

The restaurant was a bit pricey but definitely worth the money. I had margarita and the shrimp. The server name was Ryan and he was excellent.

If you like American craft beer this is a nice place to go. We had a walk on the High Line and in the end of it where this place. We only tried some beers but they where great.

A group of us were headed to “Sleep No More”, and we stopped here for drinks and food before the show. The menu was lovely, and we ordered almost one of everything to share. Everything was delicious, and I would recommend this establishment to all of my foodie friends. The bartender was particularly helpful and gave us tips for the show as well!

Nice place with cool decor and a cool vibe. Awesome beers and brews. I’ll def go back. Very nice atmosphere.

Stumbled upon Death Ave and am I glad I did. The inside was captivating. Such a natural and organic ambiance. The employees (as I interacted with a few of them) were hospitable and created a very comfortable dinner for one! I was treated with great respect. Quality food that had all fresh ingredients. I had a wonderful mocktail made with fresh basil, limes, soda water, and Mastika. It was a first trying Mastika and I am so glad I did. This anise gym like substance is great source of minerals and natural antioxidants. Towards the end of my dinner, I received a complimentary desert which just when I thought my taste buds were satisfied, a whole new feeling of satisfaction took over. Was invited to take a look at the "Garden" in the back. What a welcoming space for intimate events. Will absolutely come back the next time I visit NYC!

They upgraded us to a private room which was so nice. Everyone enjoyed their food and beer! We will return.

This restaurant, located close to the Highline, had an odd sex dungeon ambiance. The decor was a strange mixture of Edison bulbs, mason jar water glasses, Rococo style mirrors, and paintings of couples copulating. There was cool outdoor bar that 3 different tables of diners fled to as soon as they saw the menu prices for food. The location and decor appeared to be more of a casual dining type deal in the front of the restaurant. Great service from our adorable red-haired waiter, Mike, (who is also a dancer & acrobat). I think this place should be listed in Trip Advisor with $$$-$$$$ because the menu items were quite pricey for amount of food and cost of ingredients used. My friend ordered the grilled zucchini on skordalia and it was $18. It was just half of a zucchini sliced and served on top of puréed garlic and potatoes. That said, the food was very good and we were in a sit down restaurant in NYC. I ordered the souvlaki tacos w oregano fries. It was $21 for two tacos and a small amount of fries. The chicken in the souvlaki tacos was perfectly seasoned and cooked and the yogurt sauce on top was a deliciously creamy complement to the tomatoes & red onions. The fries were very crispy, but the cheese and oregano did not stick to the fries, which was a bummer. The tacos were served on a metal taco holder on top of a wooden board with feet & the fries were served in a metal bucket. While it looked very cute, it was pretty impractical to eat my meal that way since the tacos were really messy and it was hard to fit my fingers into the tiny metal bucket to retrieve my fries. The fries were served with a side of ketchup, but I think they would have been better with an aioli or other type of condiment rather than Heinz ketchup.

Found this place while walking on the High Line - saw a little sign and we walked down to 10th Avenue, between 28 & 29th streets. Outside blackboard said their garden patio was open. Wow, what a beautiful spot filled with tall live bamboo. Just a wonderful, relaxing outdoor spot. The menu had many wonderful selections. This was my husband's birthday lunch so we ordered a bottle of Rose, and he had the skirt steak skewers, and I had the JUMBO coconut shrimp. Both menu items were outstanding. The jumbo shrimp must have been on steroids they were so enormous - there were 4 jumbo shrimp and between the two of us we couldn't finish them. Marcella was our server, who provided us with outstanding service. She even brought out a complimentary port for both of us for my husband's birthday. It was a wonderful little find - we will be back again. They also have a little brewery and my husband also enjoyed one of their IPA's.

Came here on 9th May, to try their own beer brewed. They recommended us El Dorado, while I had their amber beer Mr Fantastic Kolsch. The beer is amazing, great ambience and a good place.to watch the world go by. Fully recommend 😁

Great little restaurant right next to The High Line & Hudson Yards. I had a great steak sandwich with fries and the portion sizes were just right for lunch and the food was great along with attentive service.

Mr Fantastic was fabulous. Nice quiet spot near chaotic Hudson Yards. Family friendly, eclectic food choices and large variety of beverages.

Stopped in with coworkers after work. Drinks were well made, but had a chuckle that the "happy hour" price for the cocktails was $12. Bartender has zero personality, maybe he was staying with the Death Ave theme

Great find, cool restaurant, solid food and cocktails. If you're near The Highline it's the perfect pit stop for a solid meal.

After walking the High Line on a hot day, the four of us were ready for a cool drink and some food. They had good interesting sandwiches and a selection of micro brews. The food was tasty and the beers was good. They don't make it clear that they add a 20% gratuity and leave a spot for you to add a (extra) tip. Be aware...

I’d have given it 4 stars, but a) it was extremely loud and b) it said outdoor seating, but that’s not really the case. In fact given that it was a nice day, I asked to open a window and told no. it would be “too windy” ... meanwhile we suffered a bit from the loud talkers at the next table. The food was good though - sort of like Greek tapas with solid veg options.

The Lamb baguette club was a great combination of flavors. Had the truffle fries that were delicious. The accompanying bean salad was refreshing and went well.

We stumbled across this place during the middle of a torrential downpour and at that point anywhere would have been okay. The decor and ambiance were cool but the food was just okay and the service left a lot to be desired

We were going to be in the Chelsea area of Manhatten, and found this restaurant on Open Table. We decided to give it a try, and I'm glad we did. It is a small restaurant, with multiple rooms for dining. It has a nice size bar where you can also eat. During the warmer weather you can eat out on the patio. The menu was small, but had a nice selection of starters and main courses. I had the lamb shank which was very tender and served with a combination of peas and carrots. We will definitely try this place again when in this part of NY.

Ok, I get it. Focus on beer. Don't lose focus on liquor. No Stoli, Absolute, fancy brands, and out of Titos. I had a mystery vodka from Long Island, only could risk one. They could have sold us 3 drinks each with a brand we knew. Food was very good. Shared the calamari. I had a fish entree, Cod I think, maybe Haddock. It was excellent, my guest had a lamb shank. Server was professional, friendly, and attentive. I'll try again and bring an emergency flask.

Awesome bar with great drinks!! Perfect location near the High Line! Lazarus knows how to make a drink!

the place was way too noisy for a romantic dinner for two! Furthermore, we ordered the blandest plate of calamari, followed by their BBQ beef skewers. Meh. We base our out of town dinner reservations on reviews. On this occasion, we are sorely disappointed. We don't recommend this restaurant at all.

Great beer and cocktails, very friendly staff. Food looked good, although didn't eat here. Cosy looking booths and garden. Great rest stop after high line and vessel

After walking along the High Line, I stopped here for a few beers. They had a nice selection and the staff was friendly and welcoming. I did not eat, but the food that I saw looked wonderful. I would like to stop back and try some of the dishes.

Very nice clean place! Excellent location!! Has outdoor sitting with really cool atmosphere!! Mike the owner there was very sweet and wanted to accommodate everyone table by table!! Staff was awesome Kay the bartender very sweet!!! Thinking a local place and it was packed !! Food was awesome we all had something different!! I highly recommend this neighborhood friendly bar!! Love this place!!

After seeing a few images posted on Social Media a group of friends and I decided to make our weekly brunch day at Death Ave. From start to finish everything was just awesome, the server was very friendly and helpful even dealing with our embarrassing friend who always has to make ordering super complicated! I enjoyed one of the best bloody mary's I've had in a while and everyone else seemed impressed with their sangria. We ordered the souvlaki tacos, french toast, rib sandwich, feta burger, a couple salads and a few orders of truffle fries which are epic and we pretty much polished off everything. It's a very chill and comfortable vibe, no pretentious NY scene, just a cool low key spot to enjoy a great meal with friends. We ended up walking on The Highline next door and will be coming back regularly especially in the Spring to enjoy their garden.

This place is incredibly. The ambiance and outdoor space is so unique. The beer..... masterpiece. The owner has mastered the art of making delicious drinks, beer and infused cocktails! The story behind the name and the light Mediterranean fare make for a great afternoon!

Served by Maria, popped in after seeing the bar on the high line. Had sharing meats and flat breads. Good selection of beers, enjoyable?

Our second time here. First time was for a late lunch and drinks. This time was for dinner. Dinner menu is a little limited and a little pricey for what you get. Quality of the food was good. Drinks are very good.

Popped in for a quick bite.... service warm and friendly air con was not! Waitress was not able to make the aircon heat up.... must have been cold in the kitchen too as the food came out cold. To top this a piece of cling film was left hanging to the contents of the pitta The one nice thing was the beer - that was very nice. High hopes from a quirky looking place..dashed by poor food.

Good spot but a little bit expensive... plus, they don’t serve wine in wine glass which I found it weird ... the bartender from Greece is really cool and friendly

Second visit and service really slow both times- 15 min wait for a drink! Brunch was quite nice. We had deconstructed ham, egg and cheese and their version of French toast (not sweet but nice).

Comfortable spot to stop for refreshments after a walk on the High Line. We enjoyed the sliders, the drafts and even the coffees and cakes.

Went for dinner and they sat us in a "private" booth. That was pretty nice as we were busy talking and didn't bother anyone around us. I was disappointed to see the limited menu. Waiter was attentive and came back several times to see if we were ready. We were with a friend we had not seen in about two years and we were really chatting up a storm. We finally ordered . We had the rib sandwich, skirt steak skewers, roasted cauliflower, and shrimp tacos. DO NOT ORDER the Rib sandwich. It had very little meat and that was burnt and the bun was full of sauce. YUCK!!!!!!!! The fries that came with it were ok. The four skirt steak skewers were plentiful but were fatty and not cooked enough. The three shrimp tacos were fine. Again the staff was very nice, but you're there for the food and not the staff....

Came here for dinner with 17 people before heading over to Sleep No More. We ate for a solid 4 hours and had an amazing time. Our server (Ryan?), handles our large party fantastically. He kept us well fed, glasses never empty and children attended to. The private dining room is great for these types of things - casual, classy and fun. The cocktails were great and wine reasonably priced. The octopus and shrimp were good and the sliders and moussaka were delicious. They have a great bar area too if you just want to hang (which is also probably why the cocktails were so great). Tons o’fun!

This restaurant offers Greek-style food and flavors, and a good assortment of beer, mixed drinks and wine. We ate in the bar area, which has high stools and tables. The vibe is dark, Goth-esque, but don't let that put you off, as the food is worth it. We had the chicken on roasted corn, fish sliders, and the souvlaki tacos with fish. All of these dishes were amazingly flavorful and juicy, if sometimes not the neatest thing to eat. (And I've never met a taco that was not messy to eat.) We also enjoyed the beer and mixed drinks we ordered. My only complaint about it is that the prices were so high. Yes, everything tasted great, but it still cost more than it should. We ate there after spending the afternoon walking the High Line, and were tired and just wanted to eat someplace close to where we were, so we decided to eat there anyway despite the higher-than-desired price point.

Went on a pub crawl with a pal. Both personal pizzas were great. And the Jalapeño margarita had kick.

I called ahead to have a great table set-up in advance and they put us in a romantic alcove. I love a place that follows through. Great food and service as well.

We just happened upon this place with our family after being on the Highline. There were 10 of us and when we walked in, we thought this restaurant would be too small to accommodate us but they seated us in a small private room in the back which was really cute and great. The whole place was cute though. The service was great. I guess the only down side was that there weren't a lot of choices on the menu & with kids, that can sometimes be a problem. But, what we got was good except our grandson was disappointed in his BBQ Ribs. The sause wasn't the greatest... It was a fun place though and we were glad we found it. I would definitely return.

We saw this place whilst walking on The High Line. We decided to visit it for lunch. A great place, great beer (Mr MC2 is great) and great food. We had a Chicken Club sandwich which came with fries. For once the portion size was right, not overbearing at all. The staff were friendly and pleasant. If you find yourself in Chelsea then give this place a visit. You won’t be disappointed. It’s also another bar destroying the misconception that American beer is weak and tasteless.

I'm from "Slowvannah" and so I can be patient about slow service (which we definitely experienced: 15 minutes to even get a drink menu, at the bar, which was dead) IF it's great service and the fare is awesome. It wasn't. Disclaimer here, we didn't eat. I wouldn't have stayed for free food the bartender was so rude! We watched him pour 2 drinks from casks before ordering and asked what they had to offer from the casks; the bartender replied, "No casks today." Huh. Well, then, since it implies it's a brewery and they list NO beers of their own on the menu buy do list a promising sounding "Seasonal Flight" we asked if we could just have a couple of flights, "No. No flights today." We ordered a couple of drinks and sat and watched to bartender pour at least two more drinks from the casks and send off what suspiciously looked like a tray of 4 different beer samples. We tried to get a water to no avail - again, the bar had 2 other patrons at it when we were there! By the time we hurriedly finished our drinks I thought for sure the unwelcoming bartender would rush to get us our check. Not so much. It's a shame. The décor is awesome and an actual brewery or even just craft brews and cocktail spot in that location would have been great. Here's hoping it was just one bad apple running the bar that night.

On my last visit early December, after walking on Highline I spotted an unusual sign Death Avenue Roadster and directed bunch of us to the restaurant. The atmosphere is unique, service and food was great. We met a couple from Sweden and had a interesting conversation. The bar at the entrance worth the price of admission. The owner passed by and spent some time chatting with us, even took us to see the vine cellar when he learned that I used to be in wine business.

in my top 5 places to grab a burger and beer in NYC. I visit often surprised it took me this long to leave a review. Fresh ingredients and excellent taste. Alex was good too.

We chose this place due to its proximity to a show we were seeing and the Highline. The building and interior were gorgeous and their craft cocktail list was spectacular. Ok, now to the rest.....service was lacking. Our original waiter was flighty and left to put in one person's order without waiting for the rest of the table to order. The delivery of our appetizers was timed poorly and they tried to bring out our entrees minutes after the appetizers. The cheese plate was uninspired and something I could have put together at a mid range grocery and the octopus was bland at best. Our table also had the sausage sliders, the seafood plate and the BBQ plate and all were so, so. Over all the only item worth mentioning in a good way was the lamb chop which was solid. For the price there are so many other places to eat in NY that I wouldn't recommend it for anything other than a cocktail.

Popped in to meet a business acquaintance and ended up staying for 3 great beers. Friendly staff and well fitted out too. Drop by and don't believe the name 😉

After a walk along the highline park we went just for a beer into this ‚brewery‘ Actually it is a pub with homemade beer. If you don‘t like beer with strange aromas this is definitly the wrong place - you better go into one of the numerous irish pubs. A small !! glass of beer 10 dollars.....simply overpriced. What surprises most is the fact that the waiter asks for your credit card before your order!!! They then keep the card until you finally pay. This is a no go behaviour. I cannot assess the food so I decided to give 3 stars. A disappointing experience here in NY.

Death Ave is amazing, I just wish I found it sooner! Their beer selection is AMAZING, a huge selection to choose from. Their food is Greek, and it's equally as amazing. I will definitely be back here with friends very soon.

We were walking on the Highline and decided to take a break. We went down a set of stairs and found Death Ave. The name didn't exactly welcome us but the atmosphere upon walking in was very pleasant. We were escorted to an open air area in the back - a light covering roof kept it shady but not completely covered so we could feel the beautiful weather and the feeling of being outside. We had 2 cold beers on tap and the cheese and salami plate. It was delicious, reasonably priced and quite enjoyable. We sat on 2 overstuffed chairs instead of a table, and it felt like we were on the back porch of a home. We found out the name "Death Ave." was a nickname in the past for 10th Street, which the bar is on. Whew!

Nice place, good atmosphere. Webt there for a couple of beers. Good beer quality but a little bit overpriced, even for the region. Nice staff. Try the happy hour for better price.

We were wandering around on a friday night trying to get a bite with 4 friends. Between one venue and a second, we were walking past Death Ave. There is street construction in front so it may be hard to see - but worth seeking out! The decor is super industrial chic. The building is a historic landmark. The bartender concocts the perfect drink for any cocktail maven. And the food?! There are about 15 food items on the menu (on the bar side). We decided to order family style - WOW! The truffle pizza, Hellenic salad pizza and shared spreads were our favorite. Big portions - great for sharing & the ingredients were super fresh. Totally unexpected and I'm thrilled to say it made our day!

Stopped in during a rain shower while walking the High Line. The name is intriguing as it is reflective of the reason for the High Line. Server, Lauren, was incredibly friendly and helpful with the beer selection - really knew her product. Though the bar was full she never rushed away....great job! Beer was delicious, we tried a couple different brews. Learned about the aged cocktails but didn't try them. Next trip in we are going to make sure to stop in and try the food as the menu looked great!

We stopped off here at 430pm for an unlikely meal before a performance of the cult theatre piece Sleep No More (which is round the corner). Not many places nearby were open at that hour but they were doing brisk business. The menu has Greek elements but there are plenty of other choices too. We had a lemon chicken soup, a burger and souvlaki taco. The food was delicious - others have mentioned the truffle fries, and as someone who eats too many burgers I'd call this one exceptional. We had a glass each of the two Greek wines at the top of the list - both excellent> The service was attentive and they helpfully suggested an alternative table when a large family party came in who they thought might disturb us. Not cheap ($100 in Dec 2015, tip included) but definitely worth the money.

The positives: Great location and they advertised some unique cocktails (margarita with jalapeño infused tequila). The negatives: it just was not worth paying $10 for beer served in glasses that we believed were less than 12 ounces

Beer selections were so so. They seem to be more about specialty cocktails. Decor was excellent with lots of quiet nooks to hide away Speak easy style. 12 seat bar up front sitting in the back and around like a Maze. Find the end past the restrooms if you are a larger party for an excellent private sitting room. Art rotates and is excellent all around. I had the Rib sandwich with fresh Jalepenos slices and it made me want another. Delerium Tremons on draught and excellent truffle fries, crispy in a cone. Recommend. Take the time to learn the story about Death Ave. (10th street) the plaque is on the wall outside the building.

I had brunch here with my wife. I liked the food, and the non conventional seating arrangements . You get lost in the many rooms , but , thankfully, the service did not ! Great omelette for me, my wife loved her spinach salad . My beer choice , though , was awful: it is called Tarty something or else, it was totally flat and unpleasant. I may go back , but will clearly avoid that beer.

Found this spot near the Highline, very cool vibe and scene, great food and lots of history. Definitely coming back,

Saw the billboard as we walked along the Highline and loved their logo, so when we walked by it on the street we could not a resist a quick stop for a beer. Loved the atmosphere and the staff too even though the draft beer menu was pretty limited this day. My daughter is determined to swing by to eat soon.

We enjoyed brunch/lunch. Food was good, weather was lovely but they were seemingly getting ready for an outdoor event so we had to eat inside. The staff was very pleasant and effective. We would go back again for sure. Good location before or after Highline.

We chose this restaurant by location, price, and NAME. What we found was a delicious and elegant restaurant with a caring and helpful staff and a truly unique location. We WILL be back. NEW FAVORITE.

Went bar hoping and searching for new breweries and this wasnt anything at all. Bad customer service, maybe some racist bartender... No homemade brews just only 6 taps not a good variety. So what is it called brewing company? Bartender didnt know if he had home brews.

I've gone here a couple of times after work for happy hour. Tasteful but not strong drinks. Fish tacos and burgers are really tasty. Beautiful presentation and tasty. Also I remember the meat being juicy and not dry and that's a problem. Their fries could have more seasoning. Overall great place.

Service - attentive, genuinely interested in your experience. Food, very tasty, varied. Good portion sizes. Beer - yummy selections. Space - interesting, and eclectic. We sat in one of the "private" booths. But anywhere here seems like a treat. A few areas of improvement... (1) on a warmish spring day, a/c could be a little higher. (2) although a good beer selection, with so many great local brews, seems like they could research this a bit more (especially given their name). (3) Wine - as many have observed, completely over-priced. On top of that... ours was served warm, with an ice cube in it (yes an ice cube). Our server, although super polite, was completely oblivious... she delivers the wine and says.. the bartender says the bottle was a little hot. So, we put an ice cube in it. eeeks

We were a group of eight, and sat in the comfy and semi-private “rustic chic” room adjoining the patio. Delicious stacked moussaka, layered with slices of zucchini and eggplant. Very light and tasty. The souvlaki “tacos” were difficult (i.e. messy) to eat — a whole grilled sausage was placed in an open pita and the goopy sauce kept leaking out. The oregano fries were yummy.

We happened upon Death Ave after getting off The High Line and looking for a place for a late lunch and a drink. We weren't disappointed! It helped that we were starving... I had a chicken club sandwich that was shockingly delicious. And the french fries are delish! Not sure overall if it was a place we'd seek out next time we're in NYC, but it would definitely be a place I'd visit again if I was in that area specifically.

We saw this place after leaving the high line. We wanted some drinks. The place was full but the hostess said we could order drinks and go in the back to chill. The back was neat. There were some games you could play to keep busy while drinking.

Cool location and got to sit in a little room so kids loved it. The beer was quite good but disappointed they were out of 2 of them on a Saturday lunchtime. The food was quite good. We tried the cod sliders, a great salad and eggplant tacos. The star of the show was the grilled zucchini side dish!!

Started with a party in the side room, a little narrow and for a standing crowd because one full length of the wall was occupied with tables that no one used. The closeness kept the crowd chatty and the snacks and drinks were excellent. A great little rental venue. After guests left, my husband and I snagged a late night dinner table in a quiet back room - just one of Death Ave's intimate, unusual, rock-lined spaces that create the atmosphere of a candle-lit castle in the mediterranean. Spices and herbs on the octopus, calamari and sausage were excellent and, having Mediterranean roots, we liberally judge foods from that area. The thing I would say is the price didn't match the offering. It was more expensive than it should have been. The atmosphere was calming, romantic, friendly, and encouraged lingering, but the per item cost versus what you get on a plate is doesn't match up. However, it guarantees to be be a tasty meal.

This place was amazing. The food and drinks were out of this world, and apparently many of the drinks are brewed on site. I was very impressed by the quality of the food and the preparation and presentation. I had a few of their home brewed beers and they were fantastic. The CBD beer was fantastic! Glad we took the ride over to this great spot. We will definitely be returning soon!

We ate an early dinner at Death Ave and had such a lovely experience. I had wine and a salad, and the salad was so filling and delicious that I'll definitely be back to try it again! My friend had the burger and a beer - I tried a sip of her beer and it was awesome and she said the burger was one of the best she's had! Can't recommend Death Ave enough.

Visited the Death Ave. Bar when we saw it announced while walking the High Line. The place is quaint and sort of off the trodden path. The cocktail selections excellent. With home prepared infusions they really make a selection of drinks that you won't find anywhere else. I had an excellent Oak aged Negroni, quite an interesting selection and a great variation of my favorite cocktail. You must try it!

After our walk on the High Line we decided to get to the street level to grab a bite of lunch and a beer (where prices had to be more reasonable than they were in the Mall!). Good move. Death Avenue is a unique not to miss bar if you're in this part of town. It has a history, and the atmosphere here is like nothing you will experience at a brewery. We were seated in a private booth--very cozy. Beers were OK (not my fave on this trip) and the food for lunch was good. Next time we would also go into the Death Ave.Tap Room, at least for a drink. The beer and food menu there (tis different!) may have been more to our liking there and it is right next door.

Bartenders and servers are Awesome!! Everything was outstanding!! The owner Mike was very sweet and very much into keeping customers Happy!! Very professional from A-Z!! Banana shots are Fantastic!!

We were walking the High Line when w say an ad on a building for Death Ave and decided to try it. We were there in time for brunch and we had the feta burger, bacon, and egg sandwich and the flat iron chili. All were very good. They even started brewing their own beer recently and we were eager to try them. Unfortunately the supply was limited because they quickly ran out of what they had...a good problem indeed. Overall the beer we had was good and we would definitely go back again. Service very friendly and engaging.

Had a quiet room in the back. Best atmosphere of any restaurant in nyc this weekend! Hubby loved souvlaki tacos and my breakfast sandwich was great. Loved their guacamole! Server Jeanette was good. Thanks. We will be back.

Death ave is a warm and inviting place perfectly situated at a break point when walking the hi-line. The atmosphere is warm and inviting. The dishes had originality with a Greek flair. The ingredients were fresh and high quality. I had the shrimp sliders and found them to be perfectly cooked and seasoned! The sausage tacos were bursting with flavor. Death Ave has some great signature cocktails which are allowed to age in controlled vats to bring even more flavor! I was able to speak to the proprietor about his hand crafted beers. They are exciting and well thought out....and best of all, made right on premise in small distinct batches! Definitely check it out!!

It was a lifesaver on a hot walk on The High Line in NYC. The food was excellent not to mention the beer! Definitely stop here for a refresher before getting back on your walk!

The pros: -I liked the dish I had (Braised Lamb) and the draught beer (I think I had Mr. BigStuff - but if I am wrong I liked whatever it was) -Staff were friendly The Cons: -Despite being friendly, the staff were incredibly inept. Our waitress forgot my request for water, then I asked again at the bar and she send a man to get it. Then he asked her what kind of beer it was, before she had to yell at him and tell him to get water ... funny I suppose, but really kind of sad. With a bit more effort in service, this place could be decent.

I was here for a birthday dinner with a party of 10. They accommodated us on a long enough table. The staff was friendly and recommended wine for the table. We ordered a lot of appetizers and entrees. Out of which I recommend the souvlaki tacos, baby lamb chops, earth-oven pork, lamb shank and the coconut shrimp. The tacos and the pork sliders had a lot of flavor and enough to share between two. The coconut shrimp was surprisingly spicy for a French dish but nevertheless tasty. The only reason why I gave it 4 stars is because it was over priced for the quality.

There are communal tables and great but expensive cocktails and a lovely serving staff. Love the ambiance and they are right around the corner from sleep no more.

I know the place is new but does it prevent staffs to be nice? Table setting was quite bad, food was really not acceptable for this level of price, i took the fish taco and i was so disappointed. Well, will definitely not come back.

We love in the area and wanted to try something new. Death Ave was completely empty inside when we got there. The food was disappointing. Average at best. Fairly banal. The portions were very big though. Including the lentil soup. Needed more salt. Even with the cumin, it was fairly bland. Probably better as an evening spot.

We were at a show at the nearby Javits convention center and pick this place from seeking a restaurant on trip advisor. Well, incredible first pick we just stick to it for lunch for the couple of days! Excellent micro-brewed Beers. Succulent food, the sluvakis tacos my favourite. Service was just perfect. They had a top rated playlist, like it a lot, shazam’ed a few! Highly recommended if you are around.

This corner bar (not the burger place next door) is delightful. My husband got one of their own beers and enjoyed it. I asked for a lemonade and it was made fresh for me with sugar syrup and lemons. A delicious start! We shared A Spread Plate and a Sweet Savory flat bread. All delicious, fresh, interesting, and plenty of food. The barman was friendly and helpful and clearly took great pride in his bar. We would be happy to go back if we had time!

I had walked past Death Avenue many times and finally booked a table when friends and I were going to an event at the McKittrick Hotel nearby. We got one of the booths in the hall way just past the bar - a nice spot, but if one of you is sitting on the hall side of the booth, you are in server traffic. The food was good, not knockout good but comfortable.I had the cod tacos and they were fine, the cod a bit overcooked. C had the Msaconica (yes, not macaroni!) which was hearty - pappardelle-like noodles in a red sauce), R had the cod dinner which he said was good. We shared a bottle of Prosecco, $49, so not outrageous. So, everything was ok, but I was not overwhelmed and I doubt I would return.

I popped into Death Ave on a recent weekend for lunch on my own. I enjoy the low lit atmosphere and the service is always gracious. They make a mean jalapeño margarita that I love. On this occasion, I ordered a hamburger and it was a very generous portion. That said, even with good food, the restaurant is a bit pricy. If the prices were more reasonable, I’d eat there regularly!

This place is a HIDDEN GEM. Great beer selection, great food, super friendly bartenders who actually put care into the drinks they're making!! Very attentive and great prices. I will be here way more often than I should be! ;) RECOMMENDED TO ALLLLLL!!!!!!!!!

Tasty beers right off the high line! George the bartender took great care of us! Great snacks and wines

This is one really beautiful restaurant / bar very near The High Line. It's a little bit pricey but this is NYC after all. Beer was good and the feta burger excellent!

Came here for Brunch as it's close to home. We sat outside in the beautiful court-yard and the brunch food was delicious. Portions were large and carb-heavy but the omlette was fantastic and the breakfast tacos looked great. Very happy we found this place. Able to book an area in the outdoor section for birthday drinks which we did! Will definately be back for the movie nights on Mondays too!
Slow service
The restaurant experience was mixed. The food was great but the service was slow to nonexistent. May have been just a bad night but when you have to seek out help...something is not right. But again the food was very tasty.
