From a Real New Yorker

By max135 |

I work in the Grand Central area and have numerous choices for lunch. My favorite place is Delmonico's. Great breakfast buffet many choices all fresh and hot. Omelette station is a good choice. As for lunch sandwiches are overstuffed and salad bar is abundant. The place is spotless. Enjoy..

Good food for a good price

By mctaggs |

Family of 4 on trip to NYC for a week. This location was close to our hotel so we had breakfast here a few mornings. Food was tasty and good breakfast selection of variety of eggs, meats, pancakes and fruit. Staff were friendly. We found the cost to be reasonable and certainly cheaper than a hotel breakfast and also of equally good quality and choice. Spacious sit in area at back should you not wish to take away

Great for everything

From breakfasts to snacks for lunch and tea/coffee this place has it all. Fresh and tasty with self service.

personal tour

By Carol c |

We saw a man(i presume its Delmonico himself)at corner of street with a huge board advertising DELMONICOS restaurant/eatery-he showed us exactly where it was(a few doors down only)He then showed us ALL around the self style eatery, where you get your own hot drinks(machine then move on,theres salad bars,a chinese buffet style area,a breakfast/sandwich bar where they prepare these for you, then you pay at a till near door, theres clean seating area, and restrooms is a tiny but clean area hidden up behind the cold drinks area..IM NOT SURE THIS IS THE SAME DELMONICOS YOU HAVE LISTED HERE AS ITS ON CORNER OF LEXINGTON/42ND ST.(NOT the delmonico room at hotel fouchere)! But was very friendly people here, with a personal touch, owner even took our photo so we all 3 could be in it,with the advertising billboard in it!very good low prices for food if youre on a budget.

Confusing

By Aletta W |

Maybe because im from the UK I found this place hard to get my head round...There was a buffet for $11, but also a counter where you can queue for the same food for $6 ??? Same with omelettes, a counter to get one made in front of you with toast n home fries for $7, but at other counter its $5??? Food was good, but I found the whole place very confusing.

An absolute GEM of a find!!

By Russell T |

This place is right across the street from that glorious Art Deco Tower...The Chanin Building...with its gorgeous Deco friezes all over the outside of the building for you to enjoy. My companion and I were craving breakfast at 11am...and ran into this great place which has the FRESHEST and BEST looking salad bar I've ever seen..a pasta bar, sandwich bar, and an Eggs/ Omellete Bar! YAY!...Omelletes were fluffy, TASTY and CHEAP $4.45!! Great staff..friendly, helpful. kind, funny....tons of great baked goods and coffees too. If I lived in NY I would be there DAILY!! Lots of seating to enjoy your purchases. Loved it!

Great Breakfast Bagels and Pancakes

By anthony b |

We stayed at the Grand Hyatt on E42nd and wanted to have some proper Deli breakfast and Delmonico's doesn't disappoint. Excellent selection of breakfast options, cooked fresh, staff very helpful and there was plenty of seating. We went back twice - a real taste of New York!

Great breakfast, very friendly.

By Stuart M |

Bewildering variety of food on offer but good value and all explained by friendly staff. Pancakes and breakfast rolls are a must!

Good food

By 47triplover |

This has been a staple for decades. It's definitely another gold mine. They have everything from soup to nuts. Hot/cold food, sandwiches, salads, snacks. You name it, they got it. I love that you can pick and choose whatever you wish and purchase by the pound. But use caution. Loading much food on your tray will coast. Over years, I've enjoyed soups, sandwiches and an assortmemt of different flavors of meats, pastas, vegetables, etc. You can make your experience hearty or enjoy a light fare of salads, veggies. This place is great for tourists taking a break from exploring this great city. Wet your whistle with a cold beverage, even wine or beer. The choices are endless.

Great for Breakfast

By Doreen R |

Went here ten years ago and our return trip was just as good! Staff are friendly, food is excellent and prepared in front of you in a clean bright deli kitchen. Offers variety of breakfast choices - pancakes, bagels, toast, hash browns, bacon, eggs, all done to your choice in minutes. Take out or eat in. Tea and Coffee, fruit by the lb, salad by the lb.

My main lunch and breakfast place

By Allan S |

They have a breakfast and lunch buffet in addition to sushi area, Japanese soup area, omelet stations, sandwich counters, specialty salads, and a loaf of grocery items. Prices are good and service is prompt and brusque like New Yorkers like. They have multiple coffee urns. With about 5 types of specialty blends. Additionally they serve daily hot specials and are open to suggestions

Great value

By Tammy W |

Food was great. Lynn was super friendly and helpful explaining how it works. Very affordable. Clean and friendly staff.

Buffet

By Doug V |

I had breakfast here. Cheap and fresh. Yesterday I paid $30 for breakfast in the hotel. Here you pay by the pound or you can order an omelet or a bagel sandwich. Nothing fancy but I highly recommend it.

Wow

By Steve D |

Just around the corner from the Grand Hyatt and Grand Central Station, this is an incredible place to go for breakfast. One can be overwhelmed by the food choices, enough to please any breakfast lover. Hot and cold, well maintained buffet for those in a rush. There must be 20 types of omelettes at the buffet and three types of potatoes. Fresh sliced fruits and berries were excellent. Prices are very reasonable. One can eat in or most New Yorkers are grabbing carry out to take to the office. Besides the buffets there are a number of made to order stations for example omelettes and made to order breakfast sandwiches etc. Food is very reasonably priced. In addition to the food, watch the show. This is an incredibly run, high efficiency operation that is worth taking time to watch and enjoy. If you want to see the "show" you should have breakfast between 8-9 to catch the rush. BTW, though we have not tried, the deli/restaurant is open for lunch and dinnet

pleasant surprise in midtown manhattan!

By TheSteve_12 |

Great variety of fresh foods for breakfast and lunch all at very reasonable prices. Small comfortable dining area. We ate here twice and saw Bill Maher come in, too! Keep up the good job--we recommend it highly. The bagels and cream cheese and buffet were excellent.

Local Lunch Spot

By 47triplover |

I usually stop by daily on my lunchbreak. They have everything from soups, salads to sandwiches and great assortment of hot food chicken, fish, pork, fried rice, and dumplings. You name it, they got it. Its just a quick walk from my office. Just pick out what you want and checkout. There is a dining area with television. This a comfortable establishment. I love it!

Great food and great service

By carol w |

We visited for breakfast on the recommendation of our hotel staff. To an English person it was initially bewildering but staff were really helpful and explained. There's a choice of ordering from several counters but we chose the hot and cold buffet which has every breakfast item you could wish for including eggs, sausage, bacon and a huge variety of fresh fruit. You fill your plate and the price is by weight at the till - averagely it cost me $7 for a meal plus coffee. All the food is hot and fresh with plenty staff busily refilling the buffet. It was so good we returned the following day and would certainly recommend and visit again.

Something great for everyone

By c_and_p_CT |

The perfect lunch place near Grand Central (a couple of blocks down on Lexington) and with plenty of seating in the front and back. It offers an excellent selection -- from soups, sandwiches, hot and cold buffet to sushi and pasta bar. There's nothing someone in your party would want that they don't have. We had a pasta dish, the hot buffet (I hesitated before picking that, but it was amazing) and the sashimi (very well priced -- $9 for a good size lunch). The service is fast and efficient. They use extremely fresh ingredients and offer the greatest selection for lunch in NYC one could find. Highly recommended -- we'll go again for sure.

Our favourite place in NYC

By Tinatee74 |

We went here every day for breakfast and almost everyday for lunch during our 10-day stay in NYC. We stayed at the Club Quarter hotel at Grand Central so location was perfect. The staff is AMAZING, and super friendly, prices are good, and the food is delicious and a very large variety! The promoter was one of the highlights of our trip. Special thanks to everyone there!!

Where NYC eats breakfast

By Caroline M |

This place is THE place to go for breakfast in this area. They have everything. You can buy breakfast by weight from their open buffet area (I saw a staff member checking the temp of the food here too) or have it cooked fresh. Porridge and fruit, eggs, pancakes, omelettes, everything you could need. And it's cheap...and it is always busy but it has a lot of seating.

Buffet Bar at Breakfast - other times too

By Ken M |

Huge buffet bar available at breakfast. They had many many choices of food. Many breakfast items to choose and also will make you hot choices. one of the few places that I could find grits available in NYC. Too bad found it late into my 19 day stay

What a fantastic steak house!

By roverirish |

Everything from reservations to table being ready to staff was fabulous! Waiter was extremely knowledgeable about the wines and food! What a great place to visit on a trip to New York City!

Great cheap eats!!!

By RexT |

What a bargain to find in expensive NYC! An amazing array of offerings plus lots of New York character. Our only disappointment was that it was closed on Sundays. We mostly came for entertaining and delicious breakfasts which were super cheap by NYC standards but there were very extensive choices.

Self serve breakfast, deli, lunch buffet

By Food is life. |

This is a great place! You can get breakfast anytime. Quality is excellent and prices are modest. We went just before lunch so they were preparing the lunch buffet which looked fantastic. We had breakfast though which was also very good. There are two sitting areas once you get your food. The lunch buffet is by weight. All in all, if you aren't looking for fancy and just want a good satisfying meal, I highly recommend this place.

fantastic food

By paulinecwmbranwales |

This restaurant/diner is one of the best i have visited in new york. Its a must for breakfast and lunch with an absolute abundance of choice of execellent good cooked food. The staff are so friendly and welcoming and the atmosphere is so great it makes you want to return daily! The restaurant was near our hotel [Westin Grand Central] and my grandson had to have his fruit loops every morning whilst we enjoyed the Bagels, hot breakfast, fresh fruit and more choices than we could count!.We did have lunch a few days and again the quality and choice were enormous. I has stuffed fish and can honestly say that if this dish had been on a Michelin Star menu in a top restaurant it would have been a hit ! it was superb!. Delmomicos is buffet style with some staffed service stations, is spotlessley clean, fair priced and a great place to eat. If you are in New York please eat here you wont regret it. its fantastic! Thank you Paul for for making us so welcome.

Breakfast sandwich

By Sharon H |

Breakfast sandwich is really good. You can grab&go or sit at the dinning area. Quick service and the dinning area is clean!

Wide choice of food.

By Dagwoman D |

Wow, what a find on Lexington Avenue, close to Grand Central Station. You can eat in, or take away. Great selection of very tasty soups. Hot and cold buffets - pick a carton, fill it up and purchase by weight of food ($9.99/lb, half price between 4-7pm). They make sandwiches to order. Really tasty, fresh food. Can't wait to return!

Big variety, grill to order, reasonably priced

By eye-of-newton |

If you're looking for a quick meal or snack, this place is convenient and well-stocked. We went for a breakfast/brunch near the hotel, and found plenty of variety for a family of 4 (w/ 2 picky kids). Bottled juices & yogurts, self serve coffee bar, and the very nice grill cooks made omelets, pancakes and sandwiches to order. Simple, convenient and reliable. Only thing we do not recommend: the 'cappuccino' from the machine was too sweet and syrupy; almost unrecognizable as a coffee product.

Good choice. Not too expensive

By freya691 |

We were led to the Delmonic by Len, who we found on the street with a sign advertising it. We actually asked him for directions to the nearest subway entrance and he escorted us there and even helped us purchase our first ticket for the subway! The man was an absolute gem, so the least we could do was track him down a few days later, thank him and dine at the Delmonic. We walked around the food market checking out all the different food on offer - hard choice to decide what to have. We both went for the hot buffet menu, you take your container, fill it with your selections and then take it to the cashier who weighs it and charges you accordingly. You then find a place to sit and eat away. We had omelette, turkey sausage, bacon and hash for under $20. The food was good but just not hot enough. I would go there again but try something different next time. The best thing about Delmonic was Len on the street advertising it. If you come across him, say hello and have a chat. He is a wonderful man.

Excellent - definately worth a visit . Seating area at rear

Traditional Old style restaurant with great food. The oysters, steak and the best Scallop appetizers.

Good find

By Dushkas |

We stumbled across this place when trying to find somewhere for breakfast. Not much to look at but the food is tasty and cheap. Eat in or take out. The staff were friendly and there were a lot of locals eating there.

Weigh and pay

By Littlemiss105 |

We went for the weigh and pay breakfast buffet. A good choice not excellent but some of the food had obviously been left out a while. Eg the pancakes were hard. Price was ok not mega cheap or expensive. We ate in the place or you can take out.

Great Food

By C C |

Great stop for a quick lunch when shopping on Madison Avenue. Great salad selection and gourmet desserts.

Gourmet is Gourmet

By sandy m |

Great for breakfast

By J R |

Having woken stupidly early in the morning, we went out for a wander and to find some breakfast. As mentioned in previous reviews, we were approached by a man carrying a Delmonico sign. He took us down to the cafe and showed us the different ordering options. The buffet was great as we didn't know what we really wanted so we were able to get a combo of stodge and fresh fruit salad. The french toast is amazing and the range of pre-prepared eggs is huge. The bacon is American style crispy and there are plenty of potato options to round off the meal. We returned more than once as it offered a great range and the staff are amazingly patient with those who are not sure what they wanted - even when it was a child. We had both the buffet and food cooked to order on different occasions - both were great.

Good food, good value

By Kevin S |

Worked for a week in our office right across the road, ate here for lunch several times and for breakfast too. Price are very reasonable and the selection is such that anyone can find something they like!

Bustling

By babs |

Our first morning in the city and we wanted a decent breakfast, The guy with the advertising board on the corner led us in and showed us where everything was. We had sandwiches which were ok even though we felt a bit rushed. The guy with the board came back in and on discovering that we were English took us under his wing, He took us to the Subway and showed us how to purchase a Metro card for the bus to City Hall. He then took us to the right bus stop and waited with us until bus 103 arrived and saw us safely on. All this with a smile, we were grateful for his assistance. Gold Star service.

Great breakfasr

By GingerElbow |

We stayed you've the corner at Seton Hotel and someone recommended this to us. There's a cold and hot buffet selection where you pay by the weight or you can have fresh rolls, baguettes or omelettes make. Both equally good, great value, went back several times.

Worth having breakfast here

By christyristy |

This place is amazing! There is a juice/smoothie station, an omelette station, and then a whole ton of different sandwiches, pancakes ect that you can order. The prices are great for a family on a budget. Everyone is super friendly.

Meh

By EastVillageDenizen |

If you don't mind physical contact that at times falls just short of conjugal during busy lunch hours, you will enjoy eating average fare that falls short of its prices. It doesn't get more impersonal than this in NYC.

Satisfactory Grub

By globetrottingYankee |

A gustatory objective of this NYC trip is to better discover cheap eats in the Big Apple. Delmonico Deli turns out to be a good choice. There’s a hot and cold food bar, which seems to be readily replenished with fresh food as the trays empty or reach half empty. There’s also a sandwich bar with lots of choices. What’s lacking is vegan choices and dessert bar. They’re open breakfast, lunch, and supper. It’s a very popular place, with both locals and tourists.

A varied collection of food, something for all.

By Allan S |

This is one of those places with something for everyone, excellent udon soups, pizza, sushi, salad bars, hot buffets, cold buffets, hero and regular sandwiches and some desserts and bunchies for the office. Service at time is bit hectic especially at lunch when it overwhelms you. Very noisy and I only take out. Prices are relatively ok for the area and times. Best bet is take out; try the cost9m salads or omlettes for best values.

Delmonico's Rest. in NYC

By LMT |

Overheard the maintenance man at the Seton Hotel in NYC recommend this restaurant to some guests from the UK. So I asked him about it and we went there the next day for breakfast and later for lunch. It gets really crowded with the work crowd in the morning though most have their food to go. There are enough small tables to set and eat your meal. Just watching all the locals you can quickly tell this is a really good place to go to and it was.

Full breakfast

By Txapurcio |

Ideal for having a strong breakfast before starting the day in the city. In addition, it is practically next to Grand Central Terminal. It has everything: fruit, sandwiches, juices, bagels... they prepare everything for you at the moment, to take away or to eat there. The fact that you see so many people from the area stopping by the place is a good sign, and they serve you very quickly (there are many people working and well organized). If I remember correctly, they open before 7:00.

Great good at a fair price.

By Milton V |

Great selection of products, super clean, staff is amazing, the nicest people in Manhattan (specially the guys in the grill). My kids ordered -huge- pancakes and they came with smiley faces in the box! Sandwiches were delicious I tried the Russian and I recommend it.

Great place for breakfast

By Hilary h |

We were looking for somewhere for breakfast on our first morning in New York. We were just about to cross Lexington when a man with a billboard stopped us and told us about Delmonico. We were initially sceptical but he was so friendly and took us into the eatery. Wow what a place. So busy, obviously popular with New Yorkers. Various stations throughout the restaurant offering every conceivable thing you could think of to eat for breakfast- cereals, hot buffet and a counter where they would make you a breakfast sandwich, French toast or pancakes etc for under 5$. Another counter made omelettes to order. Restaurant is clean and tidy and the staff are really friendly. We enjoyed the experience so much that we ate breakfast there every day of our holiday. Five of us could eat a large and tasty breakfast for around 35$ which is a bargain for New York. We will definitely return on our next visit to New York and let our friends know about this little gem.

Awesome place to eat!!

By MiMi s |

Came in at noon and the choices were overwhelming! You can get subs, quesadillas, salads etc all made to order. Decent seating area. Customer service was great 😊 food was not too pricy and was quite good.

Mecca of food

By Il Gastronauta |

Very simple and spartan location, halfway between a grocery store and a market, with ugly seating area. Very empathetic manager, cheerful and fast staff. Food of all kinds and from all over the world, with various corners: from the buffet (not great) with Italian (pasta), Thai, American, ... to salads, the omelet corner, up to the excellent sandwich corner. Here the staff prepares fantastic sandwiches with any ben of god. I tried a really great mega pastrami sandwich. Great prices for a lunch in New York.

Brilliant service with brilliant food

By Gillian A |

This was our first time in nyc. We stayed on 42nd street east. My husband asked the concierge best place for breakfast. He recommend demonicos. Well we certainly wasn’t disappointed. From the moment we walked in we loved it. There was someone to greet us, showing us where everything was. Then we met Phillip. What a lovely guy. He brightened up or morning everyday!!! He remembered us every morning and was just so happy and helpful. If ur in New York, looking for value for money and great service and food for breakfast this is the place

Great food and service

By Juan G |

The guys at the sandwich shop have a great attitude. Food was good and tables were decently clean. Kudos for the sandwich shop team.

Brilliant Find

By ArthurMK |

Found Delmonico's Deli by accident when searching for somewhere to have breakfast on first ever morning in New York City. Passed "Lin" holding a billboard, asked for directions and he proceeded to take us to the Deli and show us 'the ropes' for ordering food because you can, indeed, buy anything at any time of day. There are seats if you are not ordering "to go" and we went back the next two mornings for breakfast before our onward journey. Thoroughly recommend.

Great Food, Reasonable Price, Convenient Midtown Manhattan Location

By James G |

The buffet here offers a nice selection of both hot and cold food. But you can also order from a menu. This place also has various individual items displayed for purchase. It is almost like a restaurant, deli, and small grocery combined. And it is conveniently located in midtown Manhattan near such attractions as Grand Central Terminal, the New York City Public Library, and Times Square to its west, and the United Nations to its east. On June 20, 2018 I enjoyed a tasty selection of fresh fruit from the cold buffet and mixed vegetables from the hot buffet. The regular price of $10.95 per pound is probably reasonable by New York City standards. And, you can mix the hot and cold stuff. But between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. the buffet is half price. And that's when I visited. I enjoyed a large heaping plastic tray of food (over two pounds) for less than $12. The average eater would probably enjoy a smaller portion. On a future visit, I'd like to try one of their Smoothies (about $5) or a veggie burger. You can take out food to go or eat at one of the tables in the restaurant. Since I am seeking to adhere to a vegan diet, I was pleased with the items on the buffet that appeared to be vegan. New York City is blessed with a huge variety of restaurants at a wide range of prices. But of the few I tried, I rank this one the best.
