Great neighborhood French

By Steve K |

Every neighborhood needs one, but few neighborhoods have one: an excellent, reasonably priced, friendly French bistro. Featuring the cuisine of Southern France, Deux Amis offers a good wine list, broad choice of entrees, seafood, meats and truly excellent cous-cous.

A treasure.

By rosser7 |

A delightful French bistros. Reminded me of Paris. A nice size space perfect ambiance for a date good conversation level. Delicious beef Bourgogne and beef Wellington. Tasty onion soup, salad, nice wine list. Attentive service.

Birthday Dinner

By Marie C |

Great food and service. You felt as if you were back in Paris. The escargot, beef bourginion, was very authentic. Small quaint and very homey. The chocolate soufflé was out of this world. Will go back as often as I can.

Overpriced

By Tunaidi |

Deux Amis's food is very average at best. Quality is subpar and the taste is not that great, paving the way for being overpriced.

A Best Small Restaurant In NYC, 5 Stars All The Way Around All The Time Every Day Every Year

By WVNYC2020 |

I've gone there now for years, sometimes just for cheese plate, pommes frites and wine at the bar, sometimes for full 3-4 course dinners, and it's always excellent. I live downtown in West Village and Come all the way up town just to come here, esp when I have friends staying uptown, need place to bring work friends who are with the UN, Amis and I downtown need a place to have a quiet meal and conversation. They are always excellent, the place always feels special. the crowd is very casual elegant, There aren't enough stars for this place, the food, drinks, ambiance, crowd, owner and staff, All around excellent.

intimate French bistro

By antonia245 |

Enjoyed lovely dinner with my husband at this intimate French restaurant with traditional French food. With nice moderately priced wine, too.

Lovely taste of France

By GennyHoward |

Delicious food, very generous portions and friendly and efficient service. Reminiscent of a real French bistro, tables close together but still intimate

Great little bistro

By bonnie l |

This is a great little bistro with a real neighborhood feel. We had dinner here after a Wednesday matinee. Couldn't get a cab, but it was worth the walk. Tarte A L'oignon-amazing. Steak au poive and short ribs also delicious. The place has a great vibe

Simple just a very, very nice and gosy restaurant

By anneA7556WW |

Sent there twice during our stay in New Yok. A very nice and gosy restaurant with a relaxed atmosphere, friendly service and - of course: Good food and wine!

Fabulous French Restaurant With Charm

By lvmky |

Just ate at this restaurant and it was fabulous! The environment was cozy and the staff was warm and friendly. The young, French girl that waited on us was fantastic! As for the food, my meal was superb. I had the hanger steak and chocolate souffle. The mushroom rosemary sauce complimented the steak nicely without overpowering it's tender flavor. The chocolate souffle took about 20 minutes to make, but it was worth the wait. This probably is not the place to take your children, as it quaint without much room for their energy (I am a Mom, myself). I will recommend this restaurant to my friends and family in the future and I would not hesitate to return. Thank you Deux Amis for a truly pleasureable dinner!

Good seating, great ambiance, neighborhood clientel.

International setting, very nice food, wonderful and accommodating service. Menu is varied, house wine good.

My new New York favorite!

By Sophia d |

It looks like you just walked into a little place in Paris! The owner is charming and effusive. The staff is friendly. The food is wonderful: in fact, so wonderful that we ended up going three times. Let's start with drinks: they make a mean martini and a good price and the house wines are very good and very reasonable. You get a big proper glass of wine for $9. Great atmosphere: the restaurant is pretty as a picture and it is tucked away on a quiet street with a pretty outdoor space. It is a local joint so many customers are greeted by name. Food: delicious! Classic French, but not too heavy and perfectly seasoned. The soup specials are always good. I really loved my Bronzino and the onion tart and you can't miss the chocolate souffle for dessert. I will absolutely be back,

Authentic French dinner in a charming restaurant

By Vicky G |

I love this restaurant! It’s authentic, charming, food is delicious, service impeccable! I had the endive salad with pear and walnuts, yum. The filet of bronzini with lemon caper sauce , sooo good with spinach and mashed potatoes. The hubs had short ribs, blue cheese mashed also yum! The daughter had scallops and she requested them charred and crusty on top and they were, along with a mesclun salad and something else ( I forgot!) we had a bottle of wine and the Crab cake app ( also really good) plus the chocolate soufflé, And raspberry Napoleon! All I can say is wow! All in the Bill was under $200 for a lot of delicious food. The waiter Yanoush was attentive, the waitress we had prior was Annya, also attentive plus super sweet. We will be back!

Delightful meal - comfort french food

By Joann M |

We really enjoyed the food - I would consider it french "comfort" food. Loved my salad with the egg and my cassoulet, my friend got a fish dish she loved as well - had a great light dressing on it. The champagne by the glass was also good and service was nice, not rushed or overly attentive. Bread was also a winner. My only negative is how tight the space is, how close you are to other people dining. I wouldn't call it a romantic place because of that. Decor is the "normal" french decor - typical posters seen pretty much at much lower quality places. Definitely a neighborhood fine!

Lovely Neighborhood Restaurant

By Ways2go |

I soloed on an early dinner here recently and truly enjoyed myself. Service was friendly and exceptionally attentive. I had the Salade Verte, Bass Bilee and Creme Caramel. Portion sizes were on the smaller side and perfect for me. Everything was cooked perfectly; I simply could not have asked for a nicer meal in a more relaxing environment. I look forward to coming back.

Read the facts

Arrived - 7:25, Seated - 07:30, Order taken - 07:50, wine arrived - 07:55, 08:20 - on his next visit to the terrace area, asked busboy (no sign of the waitress) if there was any prospect of our starters: answer was a harassed shrug, 08:30 - went into the main restaurant and found the maitre d' - there was no sign of our waitress or any other waiting staff. He apologised and said there was a kitchen problem and he could not say when our food would be ready. 08:31 Left restaurant. Good point - the Maitre d' waived payment for the half bottle of wine consumed. Appeared to be embarassed. Possible bad point - when the waitress presented the wine, she gave me a sample and said "as you are a wine expert, would you like to taste the wine?". This was my first contact with this waitress, so she had no way of knowing whether I was a wine expert or not. However, as I had ordered a house wine, there might be a suspicion that the remark was sarcastic. What she could not know was that I live and work in a small wine growing country and am currently a technical adviser to an Eastern European country, working to redevelop its wine sector - so I do know about wine, its production and, most importantly, its consumption.

C'Est Magnifique!

By STYLEONTHEGO |

I absolutely love this place, tucked away on East 51st Street just off First Avenue and near the United Nations. The food is authentic, the dining room and outside seating area in the front are absolutely charming. Service is very pleasant and accomodating. A great place for delicious French food, a date, or a special occasion. I will go back.

Unpretentious, Classic French Bistro Fare

By W Lance H |

After scanning Yelp for a place to hit before a show, we came upon Deux Amis. My wife and I came in early, so it was rather quiet. Yet we still got full attention, and nothing lagged. Solid French bistro style menu, with numerous classics. Plus, the prices won't break the bank. My hanger steak with mushroom rosemary sauce was point on. Wife's shrimp, well executed. It's clear they care about the food and the experience. Definitely recommend this place for unpretentious, classic French bistro fare.

Good Ambience, Average Food

By Nicoyaforever |

Decor makes you feel like you are in Paris. The outside dining is very nice at night, and the inside has a romantic feel to it. Food was so-so. My wife ordered the monk fish, and it was tough and chewy. We had to send it back. I ordered the steak Poivre, and that was good. Great place for a nice date night. Place is too quiet and small for children.

Good neighborhood french restaurant

By montebello2016 |

We went there a few time, for brunch and dinner. I had the Chicken Cordon Bleu Sandwich for brunch which was very good. For Dinner I had Le Veau au Risotto, very good too. I would like the little french rolls more crispy, not soft like when using microwave to warm them maybe? Since we are in the neighborhood, we will be back.

A Perfect French Bistro near Beekman Place

By Paul G |

Excellent service and a warm, glowing interior accompanied the prix-fixe lunch. Three of us had an exceptionally well-prepared grilled salmon--a bit crispy on the outside and perfectly tender, but not overcooked, on the inside. The citrus sauce at the perimeter of the plate complemented the salmon perfectly. We started with a nicely dressed salad with a variety of bite-sized greens and ended with the reliably satisfying apple tart and profiterole for dessert.

CRAMPED

By Bobbie7 |

The banquette seating at Deux Amix is very uncomfortable. The leather seating is rumpled, dips and you feel like you are hanging onto the side of a hill. The noise level is loud, the service good but the beef is tough. Prices are reasonable but when the seats are uncomfortable and the ambiance is nothing special, we would choose another spot where we were not cliff hangers.

Excellent food, great service

By GraceSanFrancisco |

Found this little restaurant while walking around. Ate outdoors, which felt wonderful after a hot day. Excellent service from very sweet young Frenchwoman. Veal with risotto superb. Around UN building there aren't that many choices, so it was especially rewarding to find this little gem.

Cozy neighborhood hideaway

By LSSLV |

Even though my husband and I do not live in this restaurant's neighborhood, we love to come here on a Saturday night and relax in a cozy, French bistro atmosphere. The food is quite good, reasonably priced, and the wait staff helpful and friendly. A special shout out to Zahir, a most charming and extremely proficient bartender.

A Friends and Family French Bistro in Sutton/Beekman Place

By Ceenyc 8 |

You'll be transported to a street in Paris Sutton/Beekman Place French bistro where their outdoor dining is lovely, romantic and memorable in a quiet street in NYC. The outdoor diners park their adorable pooches near the tables, some even have their own bowls! It is conjusive to friendly chatter with your fellow diners whether you're outside, indoor dining or at the bar. It gets a friendly neighborhood crowd. The food is consistently superb and so are their specials! My fave is their salmon, Bucky's Burger (named after the owner) is a favorite amongst the regulars. Their pomme frite is divine and you'll have the best and most memorable chocolate souffle ever! Their wine selection is very good as well. Bring your friends "Amis" and you won't regret it, ever!

Fantastic

By Worldatitsbest |

Love love love this place, the food is fantastic, the ambiance is amazing, we love Bukkie the owner, great couscous. A must in Manhattan.

Saturday Brunch

Met long-time friends for a leisurely brunch. Quiet and pleasant. Chocolate souffle was outstanding!

Family dinner

By Coastal253968 |

We all loved the food! We even converted some picky eaters to some delicious French specialties! The escargot and soufflé are not to be missed. It feels like a place I would go to if I lived in NYC. A lot of locals there and I love that.

Still a lovely terrace; another mediocre meal

By alanscottus2017 |

This is the second mediocre meal I've had at Deux Amis, and probably the last I intend to subject myself to. I just wanted a simple omelette fines herbes for lunch, with a glass of Sancerre. The wine seemed fine. The concept of "fines herbes"---a banal commonplace of French cooking---seemed impossible for my (non-French) waiter to grasp, and I must have done a terrible job of explaining, because the omelet arrived stuffed with spinach. It was accompanied by a "salad" drenched, suffused, drowned, in olive oil to the point it was barely edible. All heavy, with ordinary fries, and all in all, not quite the "Parisian" experience one has the right to look forward to.

Hidden Gem!!!

By Maps324547 |

Great service! Great food!! Anya was the best!!! Can’t wait to go back to this neighbor gem. Attention to our dietary needs was perfect. Recommend it! Tony and Lena

Old World Charm

By michaelonyorkavenue |

I have eaten here many times and have always enjoyed my time, be it at the bar, or table. The food is very good, and the staff exceedingly gracious. Zahir, the bartender, is one of my favorites in NYC. A true gentleman.

Neighborhood Gem

By Walter11_22 |

A cozy French Bistro in Manhattan. Friendly staff, good service and great food. It is small and intimate. Eat like a local. No tourists here. It is off the beaten path but well worth the trip.

Consistent Parisienne

By Neil M |

We’ve been several times and find this to be a real neighborhood gem. Not pretentious but friendly service. House bourdeaux is good and reasonably priced. I’ve enjoyed the hanger steak, steak au poivre, chicken and burger. All excellent as are the salads. The chocolate soufflé is worth the 20 minute wait too. Seating is New York tight, but not too loud for conversation. We live in the area and will be back.

Served my difficult family with flair and gusto

By Jack Russell |

My family was in town, and I took them here following a Broadway matinee on a Saturday last month. Even though they always request a quiet spot (not always easy in New York), and even though we ended up being the loudest party there and took the longest by far (one member of our group of 6 was over an hour late), the waitstaff at Deux Amis took excellent care of us - accommodating at every turn, patient and very friendly. A cozy place with a nice bar at the front. And our meal was delicious.

Fun place with French comfort food

By 123RMB |

Great French comfort food in a cozy bistro atmosphere. Add to this the friendly and attentive service and you have a great find. We'll be back!

A little bit of Paris in New York

By diamondgirlMichigan |

It was a lovely summer evening, so we decided to sit at an outside table and people watch at this charming French restaurant. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable and allowed us to take our time ordering. I started with a Lillet served perfectly with an orange slice. We both wanted the veal stew which was absolutely delicious. Had to mop up every bit of sauce with the small French rolls. We left full and happy, and I know we will make a point to come here every time we’re in New York City.

Solid French bistro on east side

By HooferNewYork |

Very solid traditional French bistro in Midtown East. Nice service, ambiance, very decent food. Especially with the closing of La Mangeoire on Second Avenue, this venue at 51st and 1st is a welcome mainstay of the neighborhood

Charming Small NYC Bistro

By newsuffolk |

We dined recently there with a friend who lives in the neighborhood. The food was great - excellent steak tartare with great frites!! -, attentive service and good wines. This is a quiet and charming place, right smack around the corner from the United Nations Plaza!! A good place to rest either outdoors or indoors when visiting the area. I imagine reservations are a must for lunch and probably for diner in the evenings as well.

Very romantic French Bistro atmosphere with the most wonderful food.

By 76victorj |

We've visited France many times. This little place does not try to BE France, but it does a great job of bringing back memories and, most especially, serves food that is truly excellent. We visited for an Anniversary dinner and they went out of their way to make sure we enjoyed our visit. The wait staff could not have been more friendly. For New York, it almost seemed like the pricing was discounted! The wine was affordable even with the very good ( but not terribly extensive) wine list. The ambiance was EXACTLY what we were hoping for when we booked the reservation. If you want to enjoy an French-styled restaurant and food without spending a fortune, there is probably no better place in NYC.

Favorite French Neighborhood Bistro

By Genjackson57 |

Went again last night for their delicious cassoulet....great little gem with friendly staff and excellent French cuisine. The waitresses remember you and if it's crowded and you want to have dinner at the bar, they do an terrific job. I love the duck and the shrimp over risotto is equally good. The informality of this local spot is endearing and you can order a bottle of wine or just get a good carafe of red or white. Cozy, friendly and always delicious.

Delicious and comfortable

By BeanaGeft |

Very comfortable French restaurant in our neighborhood where we enjoy the food, service and ambiance. Lovely antique posters on the walls, outside seating if its not too hot and Charles Aznevour music

Charming & delicious!

By WindsorTudor |

Cozy interior, delicious food & relatively reasonably priced, considering the location. Gracious service as well. A must-try in midtown east!

brunch was just ok..

By Randye F |

Was delighted to realize that Deux Amis does a brunch...the prices were reasonable, the setting lovely and dinners have been very tasty. Brunch service was extremely slow--we had to ask for someone to take our orders and then we waited and waited for our food. When it came, it was not very tasty. I had crepes which had no taste...crossant eggs were not very tasty either....merguez was better than ok... Dinner, yes-brunch needs work..

Good French Bistro

By Andrew S |

Deux Amis is a straightforward French bistro serving straightforward French bistro food. The duck confit was excellent. Nice surroundings, and pleasant (if slightly harassed service - they could maybe add another person to the team). Better to go there when it's not too full. They've packed in more tables than the space can really take.

Cozy bistro

By PG-NY |

Nice neighborhood place. Cozy bistro atmosphere, traditional fare on menu, reasonably priced. Good sized potions of good food. If I lived in the area, would be a regular.

Wonderful Brunch!

By Alison717 |

Chose this restaurant by the TripAdvisor reviews. It did not leave me down. Wonderful food, service and ambience and a fair price. Will surely return again.

Dinner at Deux Amis

Friendly, efficient service. Great food at reasonable prices! Definitely a go-to on our list of places.

Great Food, Reasonably Priced and Nice Staff

By SuZQ0420 |

The hangar steak was amazing and nice wine selection. The tables are somewhat close so you can hear conversations on both sides of you. The staff was lovely and everything was pretty reasonably priced. There is a cute area to sit outside but in an enclosed space.

Survivor

By Oliver S |

When I first moved to this neighborhood, a couple of decades back, I toured all the places to eat around. There weren't nearly as many as nowadays and almost all of them are gone, some sooner than others. Deux Amis and La Mangeoire seem to have survived the times and the newcomers quite successfully. I have not patronized Deux Amis for many years, since I had a very bad memory of my first visit to this place. Having walked out of La Pecora Bianca (separate review) on a recent Friday evening, I decided to give these guys a chance. I'm glad I did: the place is very attractively set, old Parisian restaurant style, service was attentive and friendly and, most importantly, the food was excellent. My branzino – delicious, served with julienned vegetables (I requested this substitute to the French fries). Bread was fantastic crispy French rolls, the gazpacho-refreshing and plenty. I did not particularly like the glass of Rose ($13) and I am not sure it was Cotes de Provence, but that's the only complaint I have. I'll be back. **

A Bit of Paris in NYC

By Leojedi |

My husband and I ate here the other night. We picked the restaurant from reviews on TripAdvisor. What a great choice! The onion soup was superb. We each had the Steak au Poivre. Both were cooked perfectly. The frites that came with the steak were the best. Even the small salad on the plate was delicious - and a great palate cleanser. Very nice selection of wine. We opted for a ‘better’ bottle, as this was part of a birthday weekend. Definitely will return and highly recommend!

Don't go

By Barbara B |

Supposed to be a lovey neighbourhood restaurant. The bread rolls were hard as rocks, the muscles were dissapointing, . The food was second rate- need I say more!

great steak

By xxresyxx |

Just came here for dinner tonight w/ a friend and had a great meal. We waited until the last minute and thank goodness for that bc all the places we were going to try, we couldn’t get in and by chance we chose to ck our Deux Amis since it was close to my friend’s office. Got here about 7 and at 1st was a little apprehensive bc all we saw were old folks in the place, not a big deal right? Maybe there was some senior citizen discount going on that night, whatever. For starters we got an onion soup (it was ok but ive had better) & Crevettes Au Risotto (fresh sautéed jumbo shrimps served over tomato mushrooms risotto –pretty darn good). For entrée my friend got the Bass Poilee (seared striped bass sautéed spinach, crispy potato, capers, lemon sauce – she said it was good but I didn’t try it) & I got the delicious Steak Au Poivre served with fresh peppercorn sauce & pommes frites & salad – YUMMY! I ate the whole thing :-) we also got a side of potato cheese gratin. DONE. I am definitely coming back even though we were the youngest people in the restaurant.

Beautiful for Valentine's Day -- with roses for all the ladies.

This is a trip to Paris. Real French food with music and décor that lets you step into beautiful Paris without leaving New York City.

Great food, service so so

By Oliver S |

I always liked the food here: it's the best of the old world and new. Luckily, the Chef is still delivering: Foie gras Terrine w/house made crackers & greens terrific, bread rolls warmed up and crunchy, onion tart yummy and good size, appetizer mussels the size of main course, all entries interesting and wine list – extensive and very affordable, a rare treat for Manhattan. I only wish service would live up to the good food, but it's hit and miss: last time were were here, it was mostly miss: distracted and unfriendly. Sad.

Friendly and intimate dining experience

By Marjorie Y |

The food at Deux Amis is good and the whole atmosphere adds another level of pleasure to the dining experience. Small and intimate, the wait staff is warm and helpful but not overwhelming and clearly this is a neighbor hang out. Lots of friendly chatter and by the meal's end, we had a conversation going with the adjoining table. It was a lovely experience.

Excellent service and food

By Jeff H |

Any restaurant that can handle a group of 13 diners on Thanksgiving, flawlessly, deserves a kudo. The food was very good and, in our case, ranged from traditional escargot to Thanksgiving turkey. Service was attentive and we never felt rushed. We agree. With the opinions of other guests who have rated the restaurant highly.

Paris in NYC

By Sabrina K |

Food, service and atmosphere were excellent. Authentic French. It was so good. We came here two nights in a row. Highly recommend.

Great Food!!!

By GoGirl07 |

I had the Saumon Grille-Grilled salmon with basil mashed potatoes and orange balsamic dressing. It was delicious! I like this restaurant because of its quiet and low-key atmosphere. You can actually talk in a normal tone and hear what everyone else is saying at table, which also makes this a very comfortable dining experience.

What an authentic French Bistro

By wmheike |

A wonderful little restaurant that will take you back to visits in France. We started with the onion tart and it was wonderful. The duck and the lamb were perfect and the deserts and wine list were very good. Good value for NYC too. Service was impecable!

Classic French in a cozy setting

By Bi-coaster |

Dinner here was most pleasant. My green salad was simple and straightforward and the Bronzino with spinach and potato logs very good--a little more of the caper lemon sauce would have been nice. My husband liked the endive salad, but didn't find the promised Roquefort. His chicken breast and gratin potatoes were good, but a tad under seasoned. Nonetheless, we will return to try other dishes

Our favorite local restaurant in Turtle Bay

By Mary C |

Deux Amis is a treasure and our “go to” local favorite. We’ve never had a bad meal, and have tried the entire menu. The staff is friendly. The Duck Confit is delicious, as is the Coq au Vin and Cassoulet. Try the snails as an appetizer!

Good French food in Turtle Bay

By IlyaNJ |

Several blocks away from the main tourist routes means that majority of the people who eat here are locals. We were slightly amused by the decidedly middle-aged clientele during Sunday late lunch-time, but it certainly lent to a quieter, more relaxed dining. The restaurant was not completely full, but it did feel as if our food took a little bit longer than necessary to arrive. Nonetheless, the service was quite attentive and the food was very good, of a not-too-fancy, main-staples-of-French-cuisine variety. Everything we ordered was quite tasty - I would definitely recommend this place to others.

Tres Bon

By David B |

Our group took up two front of the house tables in this small but comfortable bistro. The waitstaff were very attentive without being obvious; dinner was delightful and noise level was fine despite it being a full house while we dined. Butternut squash soup was very good and allowed the sweetness of the squash to stand alone making it a bit more on the savory side (my preferred side) and the tossed green salad was very fresh with an herbal and dijon dressing. Bronzoni was perfectly cooked and served on a bed of lemon and caper spinach and crispy potatoes; beef bourginone carried a deep red wine flavor that enhanced the meat and vegetables and was well seasoned. Dessert of creme caramel and a thin sugar wafer was lick the bowl good. Overall, a very good meal in a comfortable surroundings made better by good friends...a delightful evening

Totally delightful!!

By Stockdoc |

Didn't intend to have dinner there (cancelled another reservation to do so), but a beautiful NYC night was too welcoming not to. Again, well worth it! The friendly and welcoming staff were charming, and the bistro fare was really excellent: hanger steak (get the frittes!) was right on, and the chicken - truly excellent! Skip the desserts, just average, but who needs those additional calories anyway. For an outstanding neighborhood bistro, this place can't be beat!!

French food at its best.

By Re27k |

We ordered mussels, veal stew, red snapper, beet salad with goat cheese and mushroom soup. Every dish was delicious. I recommend reservations as every table was taken.

I met a friend here on a sweltering day.

By Camille S |

On a very hot day, I met a friend here. Their stove was broken. We were told that up front. The were able to cook on a single burner, the waitress explained. So we ordered a salad and a cheese plate. Delicious. Attentive service. Honest. This calm and old timey French place has my vote. I’ll be back.

Great little French bistro. Food is consistently good with excellent dairy free soups. Sidewalk seating is available and service is attentive and friendly. The Buck burger is a favorite.

A trip to Paris

By humahuaca25 |

Ate outside on a beautiful night. Inside is charming, however. Waitress was wonderful young French girl with good knowledge of the menu. Food was excellent and well-priced. Expensive (as NY is) but very far from any kind of rip-off. For a rip-off, stay away from Bar Americain on West 52nd St.

Classic East Side French Restaurant

By Michael P |

One of my wife's and my favorite restaurants. It hasn't changed much (for good reason) in the last 10 years. Very good Steak Frites and chicken. Very pleasant staff.

Nice place, very good food!

By Achatkin |

Excellent food, friendly service, cosy ambience, music not good. The steak au poivre is delicious and we recommend it.

Very good food at very good prices!

By matsays |

We dropped into this place out of the norm. Most impressive was the superb menu pricing for the quality of the food. My wife, who hates sauce smothered steak, was pleasantly surprised with the skirt steak - "This is the best skirt steak I've ever had" (and we've had a lot of them). The salads were refreshing, well dressed. The service was quick and efficient despite so few on the floor. The place had a great romantic feel despite the small size and crowded tables - a good find on the UES.

Classic-Local-French

It was like going back to Paris 50 years ago ... small, welcoming, delicious fish ... the only thing missing was a prix fix menu and some reasonable wines.

Rustic ambiance, attentive waitstaff, generous wine selection, innovative tasty food selections in a warm intimate room which is certainly a throw back to Paris and its many small bistros.

Simple yet tasty New Year’s Eve meal

By Florence M |

We visited here on New Year’s Eve as recommended by our hotel. There was a set menu of 3 courses of French dishes including different options of meat and fish. We both had steak which was really tasty. At the end of our meal we were also given free champagne - a lovey touch on New Year’s Eve. The decor is lovely, French themed, very cosy with dim lighting, candles and nice artwork. Staff were friendly, albeit we had a long wait between our main and dessert but think this was down to how busy the restaurant was. The house wine was excellent and well priced for New York City. Would return to try the normal menu!

Lovely......

By dottylobby |

WE had a great time here. Lovely atmosphere and very good service. I had a delicious salad and boeuf bourguignon. My husband had steak au poivre which he said was a bit tough but tasty. Delicious creme caramel for dessert. Bread hot when served which is always appreciated. One suggestion for the restaurant would be to not throw down the bread bowl onto the table when we first sit down. A bit abrupt.

Good Retro French

By SanFranciscoGuy634 |

We were looking for a place that serves good reliable comfort food, French style. Maybe we were just in a "refugee from Tutto Italiano" mood. After all, for all of its delights and pleasures, not EVERY MEAL has to be Italian. We found pleasure in Deux Amis. The menu was like a visit to a Paris bistro several decades ago - familiar and reliable. The food was good. The service was fine. The dining room was marvelously period and retro. We were happy. We like being happy, so we'll go again soon!

Excellent Classic French on East Side

By Paddyintexas |

Stumbled across this spot on open table, when normal East Side bistro wasn't available. What a find. Classic escargot and steak au poivre. Reasonably priced wine list.

Make Deux Amis your friends too.

By Marg050 |

This neighborhood bistro is just perfect. Their French onion soup is delicious and they’re calamari appetizer us perfectly prepared in a light sauce (not fried) and comes with salad. The mains are excellent. Lovely food, great service, really nice people.

Excellent dinner on our first evening in NYC at Deux Amis

By NewPlaceFan |

It was our first evening in NYC, and were had a great dinner at Deux Amis. It's on a quiet side street and has a calming ambiance. We were given their "best table" (#7 in the back corner, they said.) We ordered several appetizers, including Soupe a l'Oignon, Escargots, Vol au Vent, and Terrine de Foie Gras. The Vol au Vent was exceptional. The foie gras is delicious, tho very rich and should really be shared between a couple of people. The Steak au Poivre was quite good, and the lamb loin special was tasty as well. The Millefeuille dessert isn't really like a classic millefeuille, but the creme caramel is very authentic. We also ordered a good bottle of Cote du Rhone wine. Very nice place for a romantic dinner for two or any adult gathering. Service was leisurely and attentive - an excellent balance.

Very very good.

Wonderful food. Charming deco. Nice servers.Had dinner on a Saturday was back again three days for another dinner. Happy that I live close by.

Always Delicious

By Randi Z |

Their duck confit is among the best I've ever had!!! I've also eaten the mussels....equally delicious. We have never had a bad meal here!

Enjoy and don't tell your friends

By DarienDiner |

This is an informal neighborhood restaurant that will hopefully remain somewhat of a secret. In short a treat to visit. Friendly wait staff who know the menu well. French food that will bring you back again and again and a "local" atmosphere. So, enjoy, it is a treasure.

Lovely Place With Nice Atmosphere

By annarc6 |

We went for Easter Brunch and selected the three course menu at a fixed price. This was a great choice, as all the food was delicious! This is a small but very quaint restaurant in a residential area of Manhattan. There were a lot of locals there and few tourists, which is always a good sign. We will return. I would recommend making a reservation, as there were some who tried to walk in and were turned down

Average among other good restaurants - a pleasant place

By coccinea |

It's the second time in a number of years, and I'd willingly go back. Food is fine, service professional. You get neither more nor less space than typical in mid-town restaurants. It's not too noisy. Three with drinks and no desert before tip was $145.89 - it's easier to pay more at other similar places.

So wonderful

By Paula B |

Intimate, cozy, superb food and service. And not noisy! Love the frisee salad, shrimp and risotto, coq au vin, and beef bourguignon. Reasonable prices, and extensive wine selections under $70. We come here every time we visit NYC.

Reliable and quaint

By IvyNYC |

Not very unique, but a nice spot for a quiet and tasty meal. Good for business or personal. The salads were very good. The onion tart and couscous are worth coming back for.

Charming French restaurant

By J S |

We had dinner there in 2015, and on a return trip to NYC had dinner there again because we enjoyed it so much! Great atmosphere and service added to the great food. the prices were reasonable. We had the delicious 'vol au vent' both times along with a beef tenderloin main course.

Paris on East 51st St

By lustytraveler |

The menu is as French as it comes, a real touch of Paris in a city with many restaurants that strive for this level of authenticity and miss by a kilometer. The ambiance and service are ideal. Love Deux Amis!

My standby

By Jonathan L |

I'm a frequent visitor to NYC and Deux Amis is always my standard go to, at least once during my stay. Warm, friendly, excellent service, fun and fabulous food. I'm not an expert on French cuisine but I imagine this is more representative of provincial French cooking - hearty stews, delicious basic dishes. You can't go wrong. My personal fave is the veal stew but try anything and everything. If you're on your own, as I am often, sit at the bar, have a drink and eat a meal. The bartender is terrific and you're sure to meet someone interesting to your left or right. Always convivial, always welcoming - a great find in NYC where restaurants are aplenty.

great french bistro in the neighborhood

By Brett A |

This is a quaunt cozy french bistro that delivers you to a romantic evening or a good conversation with friends. Wine is nice and not too pricey. The food comes out delicious and exactly as you would expect. Been many times and most dishes please please please.

Reliable and friendly neighborhood spot

By BobRosenNY |

This old favorite just keeps chugging along, providing reliably good bistro-style food at very reasonable prices. We visit regularly, and remain pleasantly surprised at how much we like this place.

Go here

By Mblaca |

This is the kind of restaurant that used to be everywhere in NYC and is now so hard to find. A neighborhood favorite, not a celebrity chef special or sports/mexican/irish bar with tapas or pub food. Simple french inspired food in a bistro atmosphere that will not break your wallet. Friendly service. Nice wine list. Al fresco in the summer, too. Set expectations accordingly and this might become your favorite restaurant in NYC!

Neighborhood French bistro

By NewYorkWendy |

This small French restaurant has decent food and a cozy atmosphere. Plus the burger is excellent as are the frites.

Deux Amis-you will enjoy it!

By Stephen H |

one of our favorite neighborhood restaurants. Have never had a bad meal here and have tried most of the regular menu. The service is superb and the food does not diappoint. We usually have a glass of a house wine-a Pinot Noir or Pinot Grigio to complement our dinner selection. The ambience is very charming and you never feel rushed. Highly recommend Deux Amis.

Fab Food, classy atmosphere, after work bar crowd

By btdugan |

Try the Bucky Burger, it is the best! But they have a full French menu as well, and everything is mouth-watering good. There is a small bar that has regulars that pop in during the week after work. Fun, nice people, nice atmosphere. A locals spot in the Turtle Bay neighborhood.

Outstanding food & service

By M C R |

The menu is terrific - something for everyone. Very good service and classic, old New York ambiance. It is perfection.

Superb

By Paula B |

Everything was superb, the service, the food, the atmosphere. We will be back soon. One of the finest dining experiences I’ve ever had in New York.

Neighborhood GEM

By Nena G |

A neighborhood GEM with a uniquely intimate ambiance and a rare-to-find attention to guests (most of whom are regulars). One can dine at the bar if solo/a, or elegant indoor or even less formal outdoor tables. The food is extraordinary as are the desserts (chocolate mousse and profiteroles). Highly recommended at the expense of it getting more crowded!

charming local place

By Josie053 |

my friends have been going here for years and I can see why they would be so loyal. It's definitely a local's place in a huge city and has an ambience of familiarity yet sophistication.

new york's charms

By panint |

With my Latin devotion I treck often to this charming "French" place. The steak frites is not to be surpassed and they will even let you share. The small bar is polite and part al fresco. Like being in Paris!

Authentic French Charm

By PHLtoWORLD |

We were pleasantly surprised by this charming French bistro recommended to us by the Waldorf Astoria. The only thing better than the wonderful food was our lovely and attentive server, who managed to handle eleven tables with great ease. There were both plenty of French people and regular customers dining with us...always an encouraging sign.

Great place

By bostonluke |

This is a great little spot. A lot of UN people frequent here. I usually just get a steak and fries. My wifeis usually a little more ambitious. Service can sometimes be a tad slow, but hey, it's French.

Unprofessional, borderline racist restaurant.

By Karl J |

Unprofessional, borderline racist, restaurant whose owner and friends allowed themselves room to negatively comment on their clientele (gender and race). We usually do not leave reviews but this restaurant was deeply unprofessional in their treatment of a black colleague who arrived before us for a meal, making negative comment on their person and the food ordered. The owner even repeatedly “coughed” (without a mask) when our colleague entered, apparently to deter them from entering and being ushered to one of the tables. This is a sad situation, one that should not happen in the middle of a pandemic — both as it pertains to our health and to our experiences as humans. Strongly advising against this unprofessional restaurant.

Nice French bistro with outdoor seating

By Carolynvonm |

We enjoyed a lovely dinner at Deux Amis. It was a beautiful night so we sat outside, though the restaurant's interior is very charming too. The food is classic French bistro fare. Everything was very good and the portions were quite large. The wine list wasn't huge, but had a decent selection of French Bordeaux (which is what we like!) and the prices were extremely reasonable (especially for midtown NY). Our server was extremely friendly and efficient. I would definitely recommend Deux Amis for a fun and relaxing dinner with friends!

Charming French midtown!

By gacr2014 |

Step into charming France and delight in traditional recipes including some wonderful and plentiful cous-cous dishes. Our favorite place when we are in town.

Neighborhood bistro, quiet and cosy

By Carol K |

We chose this restaurant for its location and were satisfied with the resulting dinner. The premises are quiet, a rare treat in Manhattan, and the atmosphere is that of a nice place in Paris. The service was slow at first but then entirely satisfactory. The menu includes classics such as onion soup, snails, and other familiar French appetizers, a huge leg of lamb on the bone, a substantial slice of salmon served on mashed potatoes, moules mariniere & fries, very good small rolls, plenty of butter, nice house wine. It wasn't of gourmet quality but it was very good and what you'd find in many parts of Paris.

A cozy and charming bistro

By Evan C |

It's a small restaurant, but it has so much Parisian charm that it feels almost as though you've been transported from midtown to France. Beyond the atmosphere, the food and the service are also excellent. During a recent visit, I had the Branzino and my fiancee had the duck. Both were simple dishes done very well and completely satisfying. They also have a great wine list by the glass and delicious desserts. If you're in midtown, it's worth taking a trip down to First Ave for a great French meal. Frankly, it's worth taking the trip even if you're coming from farther afield.

Great quite place to eat

By Tanotoba |

Visited and dined yesterday with family to celebrate niece's birthday. I had the quail with mushroom risotto. Not enough mushroom flavor on the Risotto, quail was dry, the tip of the wing weren't cooked properly. I hate that the bathroom right on the bar, I can see people going in and out of the bathroom. At least place a divider or some sort in front of the door for privacy.

Catch up w friends dinner

By NYCGlamazon |

Fabulous service- attentive but not overwhelming They let us talk and catch up~ Food was terrific and all three meals- two fish snd one coq su vin were excellent. My new midtown place!

Nothing special

By emarx |

I was hoping for a good, old-fashioned French restaurant. I ordered snails which were, believe it or not, bland... relatively tasteless. I ordered steak and let the chef decide how long it needed to be cooked. It wasn't bad, it just wan't good either. The drinks and the wine were good. We skipped dessert.

Charming restaurant near the UN

By Susan B |

I've eaten at this restaurant many times and highly recommend it. It has a 1930's look to it that I find to be appealing. The staff is very attentive and friendly. The food is wonderful. The shrimp in the puff pastry is a MUST. It has a small bar that is very appealing. There's outside seating in the summertime, but it's hot out there even with the canopy.

Paris in Midtown East!

By AHRESQ |

This neighborhood gem is a nice quiet place to enjoy some good French comfort food. The atmosphere is quaint and the service is friendly, accommodating and professional. Everything was delicious and very nicely presented. And, the wine list was good, and reasonably priced.

A neighborhood fave

By Pamela G |

My husband and I love Deux Amis, This time I had the veal stew with risotto, wonderfully flavorful, and he had the Angus steak, also delicious. Although we don’t usually have dessert, we tried the special- warm peach tart with vanilla ice cream and 2 kinds of fruit jams. We finished the whole thing in no time. A very special evening, even though it was local to us. We’ll be back!

Authentic Bistro

By billyboy18 |

This was our second time at this little gem of a French restaurant within walking distance from our hotel One UN. The food was a bit better last year but you will want to experience this homey comfortable place. We had terrific mussels in a shoe wine sauce, fair steak au poivre with a too thin sauce and passable spinach. Profiteroles for dessert was great as was the bread and wine. Friendly, efficient service.

The escargot is perfect as

By Fran C |

The escargot is perfect as was steak au poivre… the have pitchers of house wine and very friendly service. The desserts were amazing. It is close quarters but it feels more authentic. My husband and older parents all loved it! Thanks

In Paris Again

By XSki007 |

Wonderful experience. Great cozy, warm room with bar up front. Many patrons spoke French! We loved the food and the portions. Too many excellent choices!!! The wait staff were great - We were treated to complementary champagne for my partners birthday. Must come again soon even tho we live in NJ. Cannot say enough great things about this restaurant.

Good local French restaurant.

By anorth52 |

It feels like a French restaurant not least because New Yorkers are like the French in that they all like to talk at once! The service was excellent and my duck was fantastic! The food came quickly so I suspect it was microwaved but I'm pretty sure it was cooked on the premises and it tasted great!

Excellent French food in a charming setting

By Chicago60604 |

Classic French cuisine, steak au pioneer, coq au vin, cassoulet, etc. Our dishes were well done and classic. Nice selection of wines by the glass or bottle, or a carafe. The restaurant has an enclosed patio area up front for sunny days or nice evenings and a very warm intimate and romantic atmosphere in the main restaurant. Tables are quit close together but typically NY spacing. Service was very good.

Like 2 hours in Paris

By El_hefe |

An early Friday night dinner here is pretty much perfect: excellent service, a very good selection of wines at reasonable prices & good food. I felt like I was eating in a small neighborhood bistro in France for a couple of hours except we were in a cozy NYC bistro. Perfect.

Colonial Flavors.....?

By JWNewYorkCity |

I have been to this neighborhood restaurant over many years. The food and service is always very consistent. The staff is attentive to every detail and efficient. It says French Bistro Cuisine, but I detect sometimes "colonial flavors" from Morocco or Algeria. Nice surprises with the kind of spices used and it heightens the flavors, but definitely French overall. Some of my favorites are Pan Roasted Chicken Breast with Oven Potatoes Cheese Gratin or Grilled Salmon with Basil Mashed Potatoes and Orange Balsamic Dressing. The food is simply excellent. I recommend it

great out-of-the-way local Parisian bistro

By cdpinNYC |

I understand the title is a bit confusing, but we love Paris, and we love small Parisian bistros, and this is off the beaten path, and it does a wonderful job of re-creating that feel of a place that can somehow deliver really wonderful food in a very unpretentious manner. Several visits now, so I feel like I can write this based on experience. It is just away from the avenue, and the street is (unfortunately) busy with a parking lot across the street, but the ambience is somehow spared and you can sit outside and enjoy the experience. Inside, the bar is very comfortable and looks like it was delivered from Paris. Small tables, but big enough. Wine list is a bit slim, but represents all styles and all are fairly priced and well selected. You'll recognize a few names. Cocktails are very well done. But, the food is the reason you came and this is pretty amazing. They are true to the Parisian feel with the menu, and all we have tried has been very, very good. Escargot? Yes, and very good. Salads are French and fresh and tasty. The mains are really nice. I have been leaning to specials and the scallops the other evening came over a very savory pepper and vegetable saute and were about the best scallops I have had. Steak frites is perfect. Great fries. Desserts are also quite good, but we've usually been pretty done before then. The other evening they had a bread pudding with a pistachio ice cream that I just had to make room for. In a way, I'd prefer this place to remain unknown, but it is quite a neighborhood gem. We will definitely return.

An Excellent Option to Crowded Scenes

By Paul G |

Charming room. Food is beautifully prepared and presented. Reasonably priced. Service is unobtrusive but attentive.

Wonderful service and food

By HobbitTraveler |

We had last minute reservation for a party of seventeen after an important event at the UN. Our group walked the few blocks to the restaurant. They sat us all comfortably. The service was pleasant and the food and wine were wonderful. I will have at least one dining experience here with each trip to NYC.

"From a real New Yorker"

By max135 |

My wife and I live on east 54th street. Many evenings we set out for walk looking for some where to eat dinner. It was a nice out we wanted to dine outside we passed Deux Amis. We were seated and proceeded to order the appertisers they were boring. I had the onion tart and sent it back. Entrees were nothing special. Many better bistros in the neighborhood.

Fab French Place

By Restless_in_Seattle |

We had a romantic dinner for two on the sidewalk in front of this sweet little French resteraunt. The duck and escargot were excellent as were the monkfish and salade grecque. We were dressed a bit casual but felt quite comfortable sitting outside. The service was excellent and the owner was very personable.

Exceptional and atmospheric

By JohnBerryman |

Came to NYC with lots of "must do" from friends, this place wasn't on the list as it is a bit off the main drags, but a fantastic little find. It is a small and very atmospheric French Restaurant, lots of locals. Being just 2 we walked in off street and got a table, but looked like you might need to book as was pretty much full. The staff on arrival are very friendly, welcoming and accomodating, as they were throughout our sitting, not to mention amazingly efficient. The food is FANTASTIC, I had great escargot, then we had Monk Fish and a fantastic Tuna steak. The thin Apple tart desert was wonderful. The whole vibe is true to the menu, French influenced, a dash of intimacy, a splash of sophistication, and absolutely exceptional service. Pricing, from what I have experienced in New York, thus place is exceptional value for money, with ambiance as "the kick" To sum up, the staff are EXCEPTIONAL, the food is EXCELLENT, and the whole vibe is refined and enjoyable. This place is the best Restaurant find I have had in years, and although I only have another week in New York, I will be back..if they're not full that is!!

Great dining experience!!

By John B |

Fantastic experience! Great ambience and the food was outstanding. Service was exceptional. We will definitely go back.

Great neighborhood spot

By Pipworld |

Deux Amis is a lovely little neighborhood French bistro. It's a little cramped but prices are fair, food is tasty and it's a nice, older, sophisticated crowd (men are usually wearing jacket/tie). I particularly enjoy the couscous dish w/lamb w/a glass of white wine.

Casual French restaurant in the heart of Midtown.

By Let's make Astoria's restaurants better! |

It is an impressive casual French restaurant. We came here for date night earlier this year. We started with the French onion soup and that was absolutely delicious! Then it was time to order a beautiful crispy duck which was even more delicious. In all, you should not overlook this restaurant in mid town.

Delicious French Cafe in a quaint neighborhood setting!

By T B Connell |

This French cafe is an excellent choice for Sunday brunch. Excellent quality, fresh French cuisine. The service was suburb. The wait staff and the manager were very friendly. They did stellar job anticipating the customers needs. A definite must visit!

Cozy, quaint bistro

By Jacqueline S |

Was staying at the New York Palace and the hotel staff recommended this restaurant in walking distance. Group of 5 women, no wait around 7pm on a Wednesday night. Cozy, quaint atmosphere, servers were very sweet French girls, food was satisfying. Would recommend.

A neighborhood fave!

By Wil Y |

We and our friends live in the neighborhood and came to Deux Amis for dinner and drinks. The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and the drinks were superb. The restaurant was busy but quiet enough for convivial conversation. We sat down at 7 and didn't leave table until 3 1/2 hours later.

Cozy French

By Oberew |

A small, intimate restaurant with excellent food, fine wine and great service. Great place to be a regular because it's a neighborhood favorite. Their soups are great and their meat and duck choices excellent. Always some specials. Nice little bar in the front. Just a few tables in back and they do get busy, so make a reservation. A few outdoor tables in good weather.

Superb Rustic Cuisine!

By Debbierose_uk |

Went here on our last night and wished we had gone a lot more! Service very good, not intrusive yet there when needed. The food was outstanding from a traditional cassoulet and a delicious deep flavoured beef bourguignon both accompanied with lovely bread to dip into the thick sauces! The wine was also good and the restaurant itself was very warm and relaxed, the only place we found in the two weeks we have been in NYC that was happy for u to linger and enjoy the food and wine at a leisurely pace!

great choice...

By enclave17 |

Six of us for dinner.....two of whom had been there before. Ambience could not be better. Having been to Paris in May, I felt I was there again. Small bar, small dining room, cozy as heck. Four of us had the bronzini and loved it. One of us had escargot and beef...excellent and I had the "Bucky Burger" and frites.....yummy. No one had room for dessert but profiteroles will definitely make the cut next time. Nice house Chardonnay in a carafe shared by three of us. Please go - you won't be disappointed.

Neighborhood Charmer

By Chris A |

Small and delightful, Deux Amis is a wonderful slice of Paris in the heart of New York. Well-priced food and excellent service make this a regular stop for us.

Warm, inviting and delicious neighborhood bistro

By EANYC |

We were there to celebrate a birthday and I had gone by in the afternoon to pick our table and arrange for a birthday dessert and candle surprise. This is a Beekman Place neighborhood bistro where some customers are regulars, yet everyone is treated warmly by the excellent staff. The courses we ordered were all tremendous - a broiled calamari appetizer, steak frites, filet of monkfish. An excellent Côtes du Rhône accompanied both fish and meat courses very ably. The chocolate soufflé and candle surprise came as planned and it was a very successful evening. This is a pretty, warm, inviting bistro in an exclusive and quiet neighborhood in mid-Manhattan

great find!

By Nancy B |

This was a great find one Sunday while enjoying a day in NYC. The menu is not extensive, but the food doesn't disappoint! The service is very attentive and the food is moderately priced. What a wonderful taste of Paris in NYC!

Very Nice

By courtneydanl |

I had a drink at the bar while wait for my friend, it was cute area. When moved to the table the server was very nice and attentive. I ordered a salad and duck confit for my main dish. Both were very good.

Nice choice

By QualityRow |

I believe that we found this restaurant recommended in Trip Advisor. There was limited sidewalk seating, a bar area, and then the dining room. It is relatively small but quite nicely decorated and the tables were not crowded. The lighting was pleasant and suitable; large mirrors provided an interesting ambiance. I cannot recall if recorded music was playing. If so, it was not intrusive. The staff was very attentive and agreeable. We both had a generous green salad. One of had a veal stew which was very good. The other had a Cornish Game Hen which was not so good; dry and tough. Of course one wants poultry moist and tender, but too often it is ruined by overcooking. The wines, both white and red, had good flavor. Deserts were rich and tasty. Considering the reasonable prices, this was a nice choice. We will come again, but if poultry is ordered, ask the wait staff to ensure it is not overcooked!

Reasonably priced gem in the 50's in NYC

By jerry303 |

Great food at reasonable prices just a couple of blocks from central midtown. Lot's of locals and a great find if you are out of town and looking for great food at reasonable prices. A bistro setting with solid portion sizes, great flavors and good service. I had the Coq a vin and loved it. My friend had the salmon and it was delicious.

Very happy with my soft shell crabs

By Idonotcook |

I wanted a restaurant that served seafood and I found it. There were fish dishes but I ordered the seasonal soft shell crabs with salad and I was very happy. The appetizer, main dish, dessert and wine were all good. I felt like I was in Paris but better because it was air conditioned.

a great deal in nyc

By tominprovence |

deux amis is a small French bistro on the east side in mid-town that has been there for quite a while now, and it remains a great dinner place. no lunches are served, just dinner. however, they do do a brunch on Saturdays and Sundays. the food is delicious, a varied selection, and the prices are very fair, especially when you consider the quality you are getting. the restaurant is small, so booking ahead might be a wise thing to do. overall, I find it charming, affordable, and with a very good wine list - not extensive, but a little something from everywhere. you could do a lot worse than stopping here some evening for a nice, quiet meal.

Great Intimate French Restaurant

By Robert T |

This French bistro is a little piece of Paris right in New York. The atmosphere is authentic and will make you think you are in France and in the summer there are even tables opening onto the street. There is a full bar and a generous wine list with both bottles and glasses available. Service is very good and our waitress even spoke a bit of French. The menu is not overly extensive but quite authentic. My Salade Verte was crisp and fresh with a tart vinaigrette and the home special salad Endive salad was excellent as well. The pan seared Bronzini with crispy potatoes and spinach in a lemon caper sauce was excellent and there is a selection of different couscous dishes which includes a vegetable couscous for vegans. That was very good as well. Our meal with 3 glasses of wine, two salads and two entrees was $114.00 before tip, not cheap but a good value for the quality of food we got. This restaurant is recommended for romantic and intimate dining.

Perfect quiet place for dinner

By Nail56 |

The setting and the service are the main rewards but the food is perfectly fine, too. There's quite a wine list so try something experimental.

Like walking into a Parisian cafe

By svetter |

Food was good. Menu included all the stereotypical French dishes (onion soup, escargot, cassoulet, beef bourginon, etc) prepared well. House wines were excellent - highly recommend the Cote du Rhone. Interior was cozy. Would return.

A true gem!

By Sheba1989 |

Small French Bistro on 51st street in NYC. Started with an array of appetizers: calamari salad, escargot, endive salad...all were delicious served with a small crusty baguette. Next we ordered salmon with basil mashed potatoes, beef bourguigon, pan seared bronzini with potatoes, and braised duck! Everyone was extremely satisfied with dinner and house wine: followed by coffee and apple tart. The service was efficient and non-intrusive. We were not rushed and were able to sit and talk after dinner, even though the restaurant was quite crowded. It seems like quite a few locals frequent this restaurant.....nice. Prices were moderate to high but worth it for the quality and presentation of the plates. In a city full of restaurants it's difficult to stand out, but this deserves another visit!

You could well be on the Ile Saint Louis!

By Stockdoc |

A terrific, petite French bistro secreted away near Beekman Place, Deux Amis is the real thing! A cozy and welcoming venue, and the food, on balance, was really quite excellent (the roasted chicken with oven potatoes au gratin makes an additional trip to the gym worth it!). Limited, but adequate, wine list. Deux Amis clearly has a steady and repeat customer following, and why not! A truly delightful place, with good food and charming staff.

Paris on 51st Street

By What |

Authentically French restaurant with delicious food. I had the chicken with "gratin dauphinois", both of which were excellent and my wife had the lamb couscous, which she pronounced the best couscous she had ever had. For starters, we had the vol-au-vent and the endive salad - both were superb. We did not have much room for desert and did not dare to look at the menu. Wine selection by the glass was excellent and service was professional but easy-going. In short, everything was perfect. We will be back next time we are in the Big Apple.

Fantastic service, quaint decor, good food

By Ed F |

Five of us enjoyed a birthday dinner Saturday night January 18th and had an excellent time and enjoyed the ambience, the food, and service. Hits included the Salmon, the Steak au Poivre and the profiteroles for dessert. Servers were great and we were not at all rushed and were continually well taken care of.
