Went here for a business lunch with a coworker and we had a $60/pp budget. Ended up spending it all (incl. tax and tip). We went for the lunch and did look at the buffet, but decided that we would rather order a selection of things from the menu. We got the butter chicken (so-so), the lamb phaal (very spicy, a little vinegar-y, very tender lamb, incredibly good); peas pulav (rice), naan (amazing), aloo mutter (a nice complement to the heavier curries); chicken korma (absolutely heavenly), and mango lassis (delicious)

This is a good Indian restaurant with good food, decent service, but somewhat cramped and congested. It's hard to get around in, particularly at the lunch buffet hour, when mobility is a necessity. The buffet has a somewhat smaller number of items than most Indian buffet spreads, but they do bring you naans and Bhel Poori to the table. I guess I was sated, but not blown away by the place, and somewhat uncomfortable in cramped quarters.

We were here for a quick trip, so checked out this place on curry hill, it did not disappoint. We arrived at 6pm the restaurant was still empty so we felt comfortable having our children in tow. The drink prices were exceptional, a 36oz beer only 12 dollars compared to most places in the city which are almost that much for a 16oz pour. We ordered the Bengan Bharta and Saag Paneer, neither disappointed. My only comment is they did not ask us about heat level and it definitely was pretty spicy, so if that is something you are worried about I would definitely comment.

I don't now all indian restaurant in New-York but I'm sure of one thing ! It's a very good restaurant ! Make the right choice !

We ordered from the so-called British Curry House menu, and it was pretty bad. The korma was so milky that it killed all other flavours The balti was NOT a balti. It was just hard, sauteed vegetables covered in a layer of dry curry. When I complained that it wasn't a korma (and they certainly didn't dispute my argument) they returned the plate with some tasteless oily curry gravy added to it. Papadams were too oily Peshwari naan too dry and lacking desiccated coconut Rice and peas were good The service was great, really nice people. The bar for curry in NYC is so low that people must think that Dhaba and its neighbours are as good as it gets. Sad.

I live a few blocks away and Dhaba has become my go-to spot for Indian cuisine. The space is lively, but not usually loud, and very casual. I have never been disappointed and their London Curry House menu is particularly good. Price is moderate compared to some of the cheap-eats offerings nearby, but the quality at Dhaba is far superior.

I thought the food was above average in quality and quantity, but it's certainly overpriced. Service was poor.. we got there while they were still open and a lot of the dinner options were not available ("the staff has gone"). I think our server may have been tipsy, but not sure.

Having visited this restaurant before and had a great experience I was surprised to read in some reviews that the service was poor. We decided to visit again despite this. We went early so the place was quiet but the service and attention given to us was excellent. The waiters were friendly and efficient. Our food came promptly after ordering. The quality of the food was as good as ever.We both had starters but shared a main course as the portions are very generous. We topped this off with 'small' Kingfisher beer which was not small at all but deliciously refreshing. Would we go back again? We certainly would!

We tasted a number of veg and non-veg dishes and all were not too spicy and amazing.service was prompt.the dimly lit restaurant creates an inviting ambience.however one does experience difficulty when trying to read the menu.all meat is halal.i will visit again.

Picked this place at random among a number of Indian restaurants clustered around Lexington and 27th. Glad we did. Large menu, with dishes both familiar and not so much. Small but stylish space, comfortable, a little dark and a little loud. Service was good; the food came out quick. Delicious, large portions, as spicy as you'd want it. The only (minor) disappointment was the onion naan, which didn't have much flavor. Prices are fair and reasonable. I will definitely return, although I'd probably also try some of the surrounding places to compare.

Located between 27th and 28th street on Lexington Avenue. Walking distance from Madison Square Garden. Small area but well managed restaurant. Very reasonable price for lunch buffet $12. Some items they serve on the table. Bhel puri, naans and tandoori chickens are some of those. Awesome taste. Fish curry and chicken tikka masala was good.

Trip Advisor does not have a choice for good. Though I rated this as very good, it should really be good. It is all around good restaurant. On Sunday at 6:30 pm, we , a party of three arrived. We did not have reservation but got seated right away because the restaurant was kind of empty. We had two beers ($ 16.00 for both) to start. We had mulligatwany soup ($ 5.95) and Kurkuri Bhindi ($ 8.50) as starters. They wer pretty good and tasty. For mains, we had chicken tikka masala ($15.95), Bhindi Ghost ($17.50) and Chole ($ 13.95). The mains don't come with rice. So, we ordered Peas pulav ($3.50) and Garlic naan ($4.25). The service is pleasant and efficient. The portions are generous.I have been to this place on other occasions and this is good goto place in Murray Hill area.

Staff was not attentive. Food did not have the authentic taste. Restaurant was not very busy on a Thanksgiving night yet staff was rushing us to place the order. Greasy food. Dated decor and poor lighting. Many better Indian restaurant than this. Limited choice for dessert.

This is 4 and 5th time to this wonderful restaurant. I recommend this place and the food that I had with friends two days in a row. Purani Delhi Ki Papri Chat, lamb chops, chicken kali mirch (beware it is hot) and goat curry. Delightfully prepared and very delicious. Please go and try it out - and it is not expensive by NY standards.

We enjoyed a number of delicious, fresh dishes from the lunch buffet at Dhaba. The place was packed soon after they opened at Noon but the service for beverages, naan bread and complimentary Tandoori chicken delivered individually was without flaw and fast. Some nice touches here - the Tandoori chicken and a fresh well stocked buffet. The selections were varied, spiced as they should be. We'll be back for a more leisurely dinner to enjoy the selections they offer off menu.

I moved away from NYC two years ago (Before Covid!) to a small town in North Carolina which has everything but decent Indian food. Here on a visit, I rushed to Dhaba, a favorite since it opened. Chicken Balti, poori, Kingfisher. I was in Heaven. And the young woman who served me was very sweet.

It is a mediocre restaurant, compared to others in the area. We went for Sunday lunch, looking at the review. Food is just average in the buffet menu. But may be for the price it was very descent 15 USD. I recommend people who may wish to grab quickly could go. But otherwise it is not a fine dinning place.

We had a fabulous dinner at this friendly reasonably priced Indian restaurant. The food was top quality and every dish was superb! Try the Lasuni Gobi (Spicy Cauliflower Appetizer), Punjabi cabbage (w/ cumin, turmeric & chilies) and Chicken Chutneywala (Chicken Curry w/ mangos & green masala). Fantastic!!

Went to this place a week ago for lunch as it was rated one of the best restaurant for Indian food but the food here surprised me. The expectations with which I went was far way ahead then what I went with. Amazing, delicious, etc. will visit again n again

Really very nice food in foreign country .very very delicious food.and sarso da saag and makke di roti very tasty.

Based on the other reviewers I took a business associate here and we generally liked the place. In addition to a simple buffet of about 8 dishes, they bring naan, an appetizer, and tandoori chicken to your table. They lay out the naan and appetizer on the table and then serve you the chicken after you sit down. I really like this sort of personalized version of the all too boring Indian lunch buffet. Kudos to them. The servers were all pleasant and helpful. None of the dishes were spicy so if you want that, you'll have to load up on the chutneys to spice it up yourself. The place had a nice vibe and buzz within 15 mins of opening. It had good decor and wasn't in need of an update like many Indian establishments tend to be these days.

One of my favorite Indian restaurants in the city. Been here a few times and it never disappoints. My favorite curry is the paneer kali mirch (Indian cheese curds in a spicy black pepper sauce). The gobi paratha (spiced cauliflower stuffed in a baked Indian bread) is also excellent. Great lounge-like ambience with funky cocktails. As a night owl, my favorite thing about this restaurant is that it is open later than most other FULL SERVICE Indian restaurants in the city (not including the many basic Indian/Pakistani/Bangladeshi take out spots where your order at the counter). Definitely worth the trip to "curry" hill!

This is one place where tripadvisor reviews did not help me make the right choice. What a waste of time and effort... If you know good and genuine Indian food...you will figure out that this is passed off as Indian but probably run by Bangladeshi chefs. The place has a terrible stale smell as soon as you enter. Food and service underpeforms...

This restaurant has good reviews and rank on both Trip Advisor and Yelp. Yes, it was jam packed and we got our table only at the time of reservation. However, food and service is just good, not excellent. Service is not very attentive and food kind of bland and not flavorful .

Really good food and great atmosphere. The food is plenty and lovely. The restaurant is in the Indian quarter so plenty on offer but this was the busiest and best

Funky nice Indian restaurant, good service, superb food. the food was really delicious, very fresh and plenty Friendly service.

Very delicous indian restaurant. We went for two different chicken dishes - very tastefull and delicous presented by very observant waiters. Go for it!

The food, for the price and location, is pretty good, tasty even; the service, however, leaves much to be desired. It is slow, non-attentive, and virtually non-existent after you've ordered. It wasn't that great prior to ordering, but even worse after the fact; it's a shame because the food is actually very good. The restaurant wasn't even busy, so really there was no excuse for the lack of service. I would maybe order something to go from here, but highly unlikely that I will return for dinner at the restaurant.

Stumbled upon this restaurant by chance. Super tasty, authentic Indian food with great service throughout. Would definitely recommend

Wonderful Indian cuisine. We enjoyed the Sunday buffet. A variety of options and all were delicious. My only complaint s that it is very small and the tables are very close to one another. But can't beat the food.

Dhaba is a nice restaurant. It is my usual go to restaurant, and I have been there many times. I just love the food there, all curries and bread are pretty good. In all my visit only once the food wasnt good. Rest staff is just ok and would definitely appreciate if they are pleasant. Else recomended for the food.!

The food is very authentic and prepared fresh. I was there with my family and enjoyed the tandoori chicken and kababs. Chicken biryani is good. However the service is very poor. Even before you finish your food, the server waiting to pick and they just pick-up the plate. Never checks back and ask feed back and I feel it's kind of rude.

Good good, not too spicy. A bit overpriced. Great hangout for a friends night out. The mango lassi was great.

The Buffet has a lot of variety, chicken and lamb dishes. All food tastes great, the real Indian food experience

I will start with the good, food was excellent. All the rest not that much, water provided was warm, papadam was moist. staff were very unfriendly and not nice, rushed us out of the door. Place was VERY noisy, more than what I'm used to in the city.

Whenever my fiance and I are in the mood for Indian food, our go to spot is Dhaba. The first time I ate there, I really enjoyed the food. The restaurant is usually packed, but we never have to wait to get seated. The atmosphere is warm and inviting and the food and service is on point. I always order their chicken tikka masala with basmati rice and I have to stop myself from inhaling my meal.....that's how good it is. If you're ever in the Lexington area, and in the mood for Indian food, I suggest making at stop over at Dhaba, you will not be disappointed.

Found this place by accident while looking for another Indian cuisine restaurant. It was definitely worth the visit! Food is amazing, the place is cozy and it's not too expensive. What else can you ask for?

What a find this place is--not that it's a secret. It's well known to be great and we hereby co-sign on those good reviews. The food is delicious and the service gracious and attentive. We started with the Lasoni Gobi appetizer. I'm not sure what they do to make cauliflower taste so extraordinary, but it is spicy goodness. We also had the Chicken Kali Mirch (creamy peppercorn sauce) and a chicken with a madras sauce. The garlic naan is ridiculous, the texture and flavor is the best. We kept eating way past capacity because it was so good. We were delightfully miserable for about an hour, but nothing a good walk wouldn't cure. We are looking forward to our next visit.

Amazing buffet with south indian and nort indian dishes. They have special indian street food like pani puri and pav bhaji! It was so impressed with their staff, and quality, lovely and attentive!

This was the best Indian food I've ever had and the service was excellent. The restaurant is small so reservations are needed.

Went there with family and friends. The food was good. Pretty authentic, but then NY is supposed to have some of the best Indian restaurants!! We ordered paani Puri, kadhi chawal and paneer butter masala. It is a very busy place so the food comes really quickly!!

Nice to have a decent Indian curry but the place is very crowded and the food comes fast so not a real dining experience. If you want a enjoy the nice Indian flavors it worth a visit. Reasonable prices and good taste.

The Murgh Chutneywala was delicious. Highly recomend. The service was great and very kind when we were late to our reservation.

We were referred to Dhaba by a work colleague, tried it, loved it. We are definitely going back. The food was very good, freshly prepared, hot, spicy, delicious, and the price was right.

I tried the Chicken Kalimirch with Garlic Naan. The spice levels were optimum giving a good taste of Indian spices. The chicken was very well cooked and soft as well. The quantity was very good as well and one plate could be good enough for 2 people. I would surely recommend this place. They are also usually full always and there is some waiting.

We were staying near NYC's "Little India" and looked over various reviews to choose an Indo-Pak in the neighborhood for lunch. Dhaba seemed to be the most highly rated although we had eaten at quite a few others in the area. Dhaba serves the typical Indian buffet lunch with pots steaming with a dozen or more dishes. Their wine price was good as were all the samplings we tried at the buffet. We had chicken tika, lamb vindaloo, basmati rice, tandoor chicken legs, and a myriad of other dishes. I went back for seconds and we had Chum Chum for desert. The Chicken Tika Masala in particular is not to be missed.

Our favorite Indian restaurant in NYC, excellent cuisine, wonderful service, a pleasure to visit every time.

Indian restaurant we found from our guidebook. Good value buffet lunch menu, very tasty especially the dahl. Very lively busy restaurant, where we had a nice meal

Had the hot cauliflower appetizer which was a pleasant surprise, really a different kind of dish and I loved it. Had paneer tikka for main, and it was ok but a bit bland with no tomatoes. The biggest problem was that the restaurant was ice cold, everyone ate with their coats on, and they didn’t even care.

One of the neighborhood's charms. This Indian restaurant has such a warm family feel. Great fish curry, great tandoori, and samosa. Can't wait to come back.

Really liked the food here.... their mango lassi is really good. We order a lot of appetizer. My wife like the paapdi chaat stuff a lot. Must go to this place if you happened to be in NYV

Was blown away by how delicious the food was and for the price. Best deal all around for food in the city. If I lived here I'd make this for sure one of My spots

This restaurant is a bit crowded and not very spacious. But they make up for all this by the excellent food they serve. Good cleanliness. They have a wholesome Buffet with a good variety of Indian cuisine, the lamb biriyani was delicious, an excellent chaat counter, good and pleasant waiters!! Their prices are reasonable and they serve good tasty authentic Indian food!! Would recommend this place.

In true New York style you have to step down into this cozy restaurant with a bar as big as it’s back wall. It was lunch time so no booze but I did enjoy a hot black tea to partner with their deliciously spicy lunch buffet. They have the famous choices but they also offer vegetarian and lamb dishes too. Can’t help it, chicken is always my favorite and I like that they bring you a side of chicken legs with their own flavor to your table. When I stay in Gramercy, I’ll back this way again.

Dhaba is the real thing. Not fancy but a great vibe and the food is superb. Try the sizzling chicken malai -- but whatever you do, don't miss the Sarson Ka Saag, which is pureed mustard greens that I've only ever found done right at one other place in Manhattan. Tasty and bitter -- fabulous. Chef Hemant Mathur owns several restaurants on Curry Hill (Lexington Avenue in the 20s) but this is the most fun. For a more sedate, quieter meal try his Haldi, but for a raucous crowd and great Indian, go for Dhaba.

This is the best quality, rightly priced, authentic Indian food you will get to experience here in Midtown NY!!! The chefs are super talented and the service is very friendly.

In the area of NYC full of Indian restaurants and grocery stores Dhaba really shines! True, authentic flavors brought to us the tastes and scents of India. Service was excellent, and our server contributed advice.

We have been on the hunt for crispy fried Bhindi since Devi closed, and we found it here. We regretted that we shared an order instead of each ordering our own. The Chicken Mustard Kabob had more heat/spice than we anticipated and the Corn Bread was unique. Delicious meal.

Great service ; Great Food ...Excellent location ...worth the penny ...Go for it !...We had lunch buffet .....

Went on a Monday evening. Very crowded, very noisy. Good service. Solid fairly standard northern India menu. Onion fritters were tasty and a bit oily. Eggplant tamarind also tasty, crunchy slightly sweet. Asked 3 times for my lamb and okra super spicy, "Indian not American" spicy. It was spicy but not super spicy so asked for some heat to add. They brought me two long green chilies which I had to mince up and add. I had thought they'd hiring a sauce but no. My wife's saag paneer was ok. The key in Indian food is the spicing. It was good-average here but not exquisite. Still except for the noise, a solid place.

I have been here twice. My Indian friend recommended this restaurant. I then invited my tea friends for a dinner gathering since they're vegan. They loved this place and said it was a good choice. I love the potato, veggies and the spices that was part of the the dishes.Service was very friendly and nice. My favorite drink is the mango lasse at this restaurant. I had two drinks. Delicious and fresh mango yogurt drink.

With a friend in town a group of us came here for dinner during the week. We had made a reservation and were seated immediately. We had a lot of different dishes. Their complimentary papadum were delicious, and one of my favorite Indian snacks. The mushroom appetizer was great. The mixed grill is a large portion with a lot of variety, great for sharing. The butter chicken and chicken biryani were both very good, especially the butter chicken. We then got the chicken tikka masala which wasn’t as good as the rich butter chicken sauce. Overall great place and reasonably priced.

Excellent appetisers, food good, but be careful how much you order as the tables are tiny and there is literally no place to put the food!

I never understand why desi restaurants need to be rude. Maybe it's a thing. Waters don't care about you. They throw cheap crumpled napkins on the table. It is very noisy here. But that's not the restaurant's fault. Just the kind of people who come here. Forgive me if I sound racist. I'm a desi myself. Place is cramped. Very cramped. And not in a nice way. Painful to the ears.

First of all, my friend and I were disappointed when we arrived at the restaurant and a sign said that the restaurant was closed for kitchen renovations. Our disappointment was quelled, though, when we were told to go two doors down to another restaurant. Dhaba's menu was being offered there. The extensive menu offered something for all tastes. My friend and I shared the vegetarian samosas. How delicious! They were not greasy, and were served with two dipping sauces. My friend ordered the lamb with jalfrezi curry. No disappointment there! Flavorable. It was not a very hot curry, and had plenty of lamb. I ordered the malai kofta: vegetable croquettes in a creamy nut sauce. The sauce added a yummy flavor to the croquettes. Take time to travel down Lexington Avenue for an authentic Indian meal.

I visited the restaurant few times. They have a large interesting menu. Her both veg and non-veg people will be happy eating. I had varied meals here and I find the food quite tasty and nicely seasoned.Last time I went with a party of 7 and all ordered variety of vegetarian dishes and everyone like this place. Only thing is that they have a large beer list but only seems to carry 2 may be. I ordered one from the menu. They didn't have it, pushed for Taj Mahal. I didn't want that, so I asked for another one from the menu. The server didn't say that they don't have it but came back after 15 mins and asks me " Do you like Blue Moon?" Now, I knew that is the only thing probably they have other than Taj Mahal. So, I said yes and had my beer after all. That is minor annoyance and for a popular restaurant like this, they should at least cross them out with a sharpie ot get a new menu.

Packed to the brim at lunch time but the service was still really good -$12.95 lunch buffet excellent food and selection .Second time here

standard North Indian fare, loved their rose lassi. kababs were succulent, curries had a lot of flavor and naan/breads had nice variety.

Great food reasonabley priced. I recommend the vendeloo with a King Fisher draft. Hot but hot too hot.

Extensive menu with a nice selection of British version curries in the last page of the menu. Not cheap, but reasonably priced. We had lamb dhansak and a vegetable bhalu - both well spiced and tasty. Somosa was our starter and I was a little disappointed in the crispness of the pastry. Rice was clumped together and let the presentation down somewhat. The physical facility needs a makeover. Missing wall at the entrance, dirty and broken light switch by the door which clanged every time it shut, and tired decor. That said, friendly staff and good food will make for a return visit.

great atmosphere; be prepared to wait to get a table; food is very good although a bit pricey but everythng in New York is that way

This is my wife's and my favorite North Indian cuisine on Lexington Ave, NY. Wide variety of choices in the menu that includes several vegetarian options. Very few restaurants maintain consistent taste and this is one of them. METHI MATTAR MALAI PANEER, PANEER KALI MIRCH and LANGARWALI DAAL are our favorite veg dishes. This restaurant is a paradise for non-veg lovers and KALMI KABAB and PAHADI MURGH TIKKA are few of my favorites. Very busy restaurant tightly packed during weekends and I recommend reserving a table 2 hrs ahead. Visited several times with Friends and Family and always leave the restaurant happy. Give it a shot and am sure this place will become one of your favorites as well.

We made a last minute reservation and had a good meal! I had the Goa fish - spicy but good! Naan bread delicious. Service very efficient. Reasonable too. Would go back.

Went with my family to dhaba for a fun, casual birthday dinner. We were enticed by dhaba's offerings of London style curries and street food. It was packed on a Thursday night at 9 but we got a table right away. It was really noisy but the service was polite and attentive. We ordered a few appetizers off the street food section of the menu and weren't disappointed. The potato and chickpea patties were amazing. The best entree we ordered was a lamb London-style curry. The portions were generous and delicious. The garlic naan was perfect! Overall, I liked how the menu offered more than the run of the mill Indian dishes and had some creative alternatives. Would definitely come back, maybe to try their lunch deal.

Found this gem of a restaurant. Service v friendly. Atmosphere great and the food was very very good - the kids loved theirs and they know their curries. Just to make us Brits feel at home, the menu has a page of UK curry dishes! Will definitely come back here when next in NY

Excellent food and service -always very busy but the food is very consistent .$12.95 a steal for lunch

Very Good authentic Indian Food. Open Late. Meat dishes are excellent as well as vegetarian. Convenient downtown location.

we were told that the chef grinds the spices daily and BOY HOWDY! does it show! We had chicken, lamb and the paneer and all were excellent with exciting spicy flavors! Could this be my new favorite Manhattan Indian joint? I THINK SO!!!!

Glad we had reserved a table as the queue was all the way out the door on Friday night. Small cost noisy place, quite dark and very lively. The food was truly delicious. Very authentic flavours and also a "British curry" section which was a real treat for expats in the US!

Three of us went for dinner. It was very spicy but they brought us some yogurt and a mango drink to help cut the spice. Staff was friendly and helpful. This was our second visit to Dhaba, we enjoyed it both times.

A friend took me to this place on the advice of another friend of his, and it was his gift to me for a kindness I had recently shown him. The dining room is a bit small, nothing fancy, but then again, we were there for the food, hoping to find comfort on a very cold winter evening in New York. The appetizers--chicken drumsticks and stuffed mushrooms--were quite good, but our main courses were subpar: my friend's curry was tasteless, and my chicken Tika Masala was--gasp!--dry, with paltry sauce. The rice pudding dessert was runny. And while the service was ok, the waiter seemed confused about some of the entrees. There are far better Indian places in my neighborhood on the Upper West Side. I will not return.

I have to admit I have never been to the actual restaurant; I only use their delivery service. However, I have been a customer for about a year now and perhaps can offer some insight into their curry. Firstly, this is not Indian food as you would experience it on the subcontinent. This is more like the English curry place down the street. It has its advantages and disadvantages. The advantage is that you have a consistency in the quality. The sauces are premade and retain their flavor. However, very few if any changes can be made (vindaloo comes as vinegary as the sauce was made originally); perhaps they can add more heat, however, they cannot take the heat out. As a decent curry takes time to make, this is a better bet for a high turnover, take away style place than making slow cooked curry to order. Unfortunately the naan arrives quite soggy so I do not recommend ordering it for take-out. All in all, if you are an ex-pat and miss your pub's curry, come to Dhaba (order from the English menu, much better than the mish mash on the rest of it). if you want to eat authentic Indian food, you are likely to disappoined. However, sadly, you are likely to be disappointed anywhere else on Curry Hill, too. A few notes on delivery: they are popular. If you are unlucky, you may have to wait. However, most of the time food comes on time. Make sure they read back your order; the background noise does lead to misunderstandings easily.

My cousin and I stopped in while shopping and we were so happy with our decision. The Okra appetizer was so delicious and we shared the Mardas chicken curry. The portion was great as we even had leftovers! The food was great and the staff was very helpful with providing info and options for us!

Absolutely terrific food, perfectly flavored, cooked and presented. Excellent, professional service, with minimal delays despite the crowd. And it was very, very crowded on this Saturday night in early March! So crowded and tightly packed that exiting from our seats at a large center table was nearly impossible without bumping into wait staff, and tables and customers sitting behind or adjacent to us. The noise level also made conversation difficult; so I'd go elsewhere if you are looking for a more intimate experience. While all dishes were excellent, we agreed that stand outs were: the cauliflower appetizer, lasoni gobi; the eggplant masala; the lamb and chicken kormas; and a lentil dish, langarwali daal. On the weekend, reservations are a must; and even then you may experience a short wait. Our large party of 6 was seated about 20-25 minutes after our reservation time. Would go back in a heart beat, but next time might try for a weeknight or earlier or later in the evening.

I went there with my cousins for a dinner overall the quality of the food was good and Service was fine however the things which I didn't like is the ambience it more of a causal dining rather than a fine dining and also the space between two tables is less which in turn causes issues in hearing if on the other table people are talking slightly at high pitch overall good place to hangout

I pretty much only eat one dish at Indian restaurants so I've had it many times and this one by far was the most flavorful. It was slightly different then most places make, but that's a good thing. Although a tad too spicy for my liking, next time I'd tell them to make it just slightly less spicy. My only complaint is that the toilet is that which you'd find in a dive bar. Wobbly sink, banged up door, no decorations. So much detail seemed to go into the restaurant's atmosphere and then when I walk into the bathroom it's like being back at my college bar, not pleasant. They should invest a bit in this. Regardless, I'd go back for the food.

Food was good and very tasty. I am pure vegeterian but really enjoyed Paneer Tikka and also lunch buffet. Salted lassi is a must try

Excellent spot in the Curry Hill neighborhood. Enjoyed the madras curry, chicken tikka masala, and tandoori lamb. Also enjoyed the behl poori.

After reading good reviews and in need for a good indian restaurant we tried Dhaba. Food is average and flat (where are the flavour spices?), service is poor and impolite. I do not recommend this place and certainly won't come back.

We were starving for food and nothing could have made our day but food. We ordered for Samosas. The samosas were yummmm with 3 amazing chutneys. Though the portion size of Samosa is too small and just 2 samosas per plate, but it was delicious. We ordered for methi malai mutter and Malai marke paneer with Butter rotis. The rotis were very soft. The paneer sabji was really yummm.. The daal was without tadka but good. Was surprised to see Paneer in Methi sabzi and it was okay. I would say the portion size is too less here. There is no jeera rice here and the plain rice comes with peas rice but it seemed as if some rice fell on the way. The bowl was not even half fill. Besides the portion the food is yumm followed by good mukhwaas. Worth visiting.

The restaurant seating is a bit cramped. We tried the paneer pakora and the traditional Saag with Maki ki roti. The helping are very generous. Two of us shared the meal and it was more than enough.

We went for a lunch buffet to the Dhaba on a Sunday. Surprisingly, even at 2:30pm it was rather full, with a fair buzz. We had the buffet. While the spread was good, and the taste of most of the dishes was OK, there was nothing exceptional. The chhole was below average, but the chicken tikka masala, the aloo matar, and the punjabi kadhi were good. It satisfied my urge for an Indian meal, but it did not have anything which would stop me from trying another restaurant.

I am very sorry, but water was leaking right top of our head and they even don’t care about that . Also feel like they have no interest at all in customer or services either order from customers.

Went for lunch with a very large group. The menu had something for all dietary requirements: fish, lamb, chicken, and 4 different vegetarian dishes. The food was very good, flavorful (maybe a bit in the spicy side but we had no complaints) and well prepared; the service was excellent. I would definitely go back.

The ambience is run of the mill, but the food is very good. My faves were the cashews with chile and the shrimp starter, which came in a delicious sauce. We also ordered goat and okra, not so easy to find nowadays. We would recommend the main dishes that come with sauces. Definitely would go back!

While visiting NYC over the Labor Day holiday, my boyfriend and I were in search for amazing Indian food. He kept telling me that our Chicago Indian restaurants can't even compare to what NYC has to offer. He was right! Every bite we took got better and better. The chicken was moist and flavorful and the shrimp had a flavor profile I've never experienced. The prices were very reasonable for the delicious meal we had. We will definitely be back on our next visit! I highly recommend Dhaba, it was well worth the $12 cab trip to and from our hotel.

When we reached at our booked timing, on 7th Dec 19, 7.30 pm, we are denied our booking. The manager Mr. Jeevan (don’t know if its his genuine name), argues that there is no booking for us. Then we show the confirmation at Open Table app, wherein he realises that they have given our table to some other guests. We had to argue for 10 mins, but they still denied us saying that those other guests said my name as their’s, so they had to give them the table. But eventually, the truth was that those were regular customers, so they thought Open Table bookings are of no value, and they should allot the table to their regular customers first. After 10 mins of argument, and shouting’s, they finally agreed to their mistake, but we had to wait for another 25 mins to get our table set. Then we very politely request the manager to give us some discount or other incentives owing to their blunder mistake, but the manager acted and behaved in a very rude manner with us, and said that ‘Go write on Trip Advisor, I don’t care!’ I truly believe this was the worst ever restaurant experience I ever had in New York City. It was my first and last visit. We were a group of 14 people, I am certain none of us is even moderately satisfied with the kind of service and hospitality shown. Their manager is super rude, their reservation system is totally broken, the food is very average, and expensive. This kind is service and behaviour can not be expected from a reputed restaurant in New York City. They need to understand that being rude to their genuine customers is the last thing they should wish for. I am highly disappointed with them, and so are by business guests from Vietnam. I highly regret my decision of inviting my guests here for dinner. Such mental agony and embarrassment. I certainly NOT RECOMMEND it at all.

Although US Indian is a bit different to the UK Indians that we are used to, Dhaba did an excellent job and all dishes were excellent, including my vegetarian ghobi keema. Would visit again.

We went for buffet lunch. This restaurant is too congested and limited options in buffet. 1. Butter-naan was not properly cooked. 2. Only one dessert and that too was very bad. I was extremely disappointed and would not recommend anyone to go to this place.

Cheap and fast... as long as you don't have to wait for a table. Richly spiced, without setting fire to your mouth. They present a buffet with a selection of dishes that changes each day.

This place was recommended to me by a colleague. I was planning a work get together and we had 10 people... on the day of the event - he then said it was 'tiny' and was concerned we would not all fit. I almost changed location... So glad I didn't! What a gem this place is. Yes it's small and yes, he was right to be concerned, but we fit and there was room for other diners too, and somehow the size adds to the atmosphere. The food was great - they had 'proper' beers that a curry house should - ie. Kingfisher/Cobra and the back of the menu had a 'Brit' section with all the classic British curry house dishes on it. What more could a Brit abroad ask for. If you are in New York, have a hankering for Indian food - then you could do a lot worse than try Dhaba.

Little restaurant with good food. IT is better reverved. Many tables with indian family and in general is a good thing. We eat 2 starters and 3 principal dishes. Total $ 72

Their malai kofta is a must for those who stick to vegetarian food. Its our go-to place for indian food in NYC!

Dhaba is a simple yet modern looking restaurant located in lexington ave and perhaps a good one. their food is just cooked to perfection. i have tried both the buffets and al carte, and have never been disappointed except for the wait which can be annoying but then its all worth it at the end. they also have have kingfisher in draft.

In a neighborhood with a zillion Indian restaurants, this one is worth a stop. Extensive menu and accommodating staff. Excellent chips and dips served gratis when you sit down. Yummy.

This restaurant was recommended to us by my brother who eats here often. We called in for the lunch buffet and found it very busy - always a good sign for an eatery. It did not disappoint. There were about six or seven main dishes and all were very good to excellent. Nan was brought to the table together with some veg pakoras (a bit average unfortunately) and a tandoori chicken leg which w.as excellent. All in all a very good fixed price eat as much as you can buffet. We ordered chair to finish the meal as an extra but this was not very good as it tasted a bit stewed and was $2:50 a small glass.

Surrounded by an eclectic NYC crowd (and on a Saturday night at 10p, the place was jammed), we sat next to two Indian men who told us that Dhaba was the real deal. Obviously, because when we looked around, a large portion of the crowd were Indians. Our service was excellent, the food, extraordinary. The one dish that blew our mind was cauliflower with ginger, which doesn't sound like much, but it was amazing. We also had garlic naan, yellow lentils, saag with cheese (sorry don't remember the indian name) along with condiments and Indian beer. The price is fair (not cheap, not expensive), the service attentive, the buzz feels very New York, but the food is all Indian. To note: This is not a fancy restaurant. It's a small space w/ lots of tables, so it's a bit noisy, close, and a bit crowded.

With so many choices nearby, why subject yourself to this totally unprofessional restaurant that doesn't even honor reservations. The food is not good enough to warrant such an underwhelming experience.

This place has a good Luncheon buffet with very good food but I found it a bit stuffy, very crowded and some of the staff were less than friendly. If you like a good bargain indian buffet this is the place if you can put up with a noisy spot; probably good with office mates and then you might deal with some rather dour people there.

Dhaba has delicious Indian food. We usually order take out from here, but we also have been several times in the restaurant. We love the sag paner, the chicken tikka sag, the naan, the okra, the cauliflower dishes, and alo paratha. The food tends to be spicy and hot so be prepared. Prices are modest by New York rates. If you love Indian food, please visit. And check out Kalustyan's food store across the street. Namaste.

...for going somewhere very popular. We were in the city on a Friday lunchtime and did a Google search for a good Indian buffet and Dhaba seemed like our best bet. We were not disappointed. What it lacked in choice was more than made up for in quality and clearly the word has gotten around because it was VERY busy. In addition to the food on display the waiting staff would bring along supplementary dishes - some nan, a crunchy appetiser and last, not least some perfectly cooked tandoori chicken drumsticks. An earlier review had warned us that it would be noisy, and it was, but that was a small price to pay for a really great and inexpensive meal.

As a NYer transplanted to New Orleans, I have enjoyed a lot of good food but one cuisine that New Orleans lacks an abundance of is really good Indian food. (Well, also Chinese). So for my twins 15th birthday, since we were in NYC, we booked this place and absolutely pigged out. Memorable dishes— tandoori shrimp, sag paneer, mango chicken, black Dahl, chicken birayni, garlic naan, samosa chaat, Indian rice pudding. All delicious. We had more that I am embarrassed to say I can’t recall the names of— we ate family style and one person did all the ordering. The restaurant itself is casual, a little small and a bit loud. Attentive service. A definite winner for Indian food.

This place is a hidden gem. It has some of the best Indian food in NYC and price is reasonable. It’s not a fancy restaurant. However it’s a tremendous value and the food is delicious. Don’t miss it!

We were here on a Saturday night (we had reservations) and we chose this place because of a Yelp review. The restaurant is small and the decor is not much. The tables were turned with some regularity despite being at capacity because the service is rapid. The food was good, although nothing is standing out as a not-to-be-missed dish. The spices were not overpowering and the flavor of the fresh vegetables came through. They had an appetizer with cubes of grilled paneer, which was something that I had not seen in an Indian restaurant before. They were tasty, but the taste was only on the outside and the inside was a bit bland, as paneer tends to be anyway. Marinating would have cured this issue. There was a high level of noise (as there seems to be in a lot of NYC restaurants). I personally do not like to have to yell to be heard. All in all, it was a pleasant evening with good food and not much conversation.

we have been to this NYC restaurant twice and enjoyed memorable meals here. Each dinner choice was so tasty. We had a cauliflower appetizer, samosas, potatoes w green peas, chicken tandoori, madras curry and veg paneer basmati rice dish. Exquisite flavors. Every table was being served and it's obvious why. Make this your NYC Indian selection.

It started OK. The restaurant looked nice, small and cosy. It went wrong when we asked if they could do a half portion or a child portion for our child. The server said no. We asked why, to which he said it was a rule from the manager. We asked if he would double check with the manager if he would make an exception. Once checked he said they would. So far so good. Then it went wrong. After this exchange which was friendly on both parties. He server didn't want to come back to take our order. We were left to try and get the attention of other servers. 20 minutes later our original server came and took our order. After this he did not return and tried to avoid us. We could not understand why. Eventually this left a bitter taste. When the cheque finally came. We decided not to leave a tip as we thought the service was so poor. He stormed over to our table and demanded to know why we have not given a tip. I explained. He stormed off in a huff without saying another word. After which we were almost frog marched out of the restaurant.

good restaurant, slightly cramped in space. the dishes were good and authentic. opening the door was letting the cold air in

So this review is only for the lunch buffet. I say this because most places cheap out on the buffet and better their quality for a la carte offerings. The buffet is fine. Not very flavorful but not hideous in any way. The service is crappy. Asked for more naan and the guy came back 15 minutes later to ask us if we wanted more naan! We were done by then. I assume they only want to give you one? And then they cleared our table off when we got up for dessert and looked at us funny when we came back to the table. I know they were busy but we were only there for 20 minutes! Jeeez. But overall, this spot is fine but nothing too special. I won't go back as I like a little more flavor and just some semblance of customer service.

My Mom treated me to lunch here. They have a nice Indian buffet with items like chicken biryani, mutton curry, daal, saag paneer, naan, tandoori chicken etc. They also serve you crispy slices of potatoes. It is a modern place with striped wall paper, air-conditioning and comfortable seating and it is very clean. The service is good and the waiter is quick to refill your jar with cool water and to offer you tandoori chicken, sliced crispy potatoes and naan. I also liked their lassi. Most people were like us 2 per table but I think they could arrange for a larger group to be at a bigger table. We were newcomers but it seemed like many other customers, both Indian and non-Indian were regular customers who said they came weekly for the great value at this restaurant.

The poster said vindaloo, went inside, no vindaloo. And their rice was hard and old. They should keep the buffet fresh. I went there for lunch buffet, on the Sunday. I feel it was not a great experience. And the service station it was very dark it was hard to see the food.

Wow! I don’t normally like buffets and this buffet is amazing!!!! The food is spectacular. I’ve had Indian in all major US cities and London. This rates right up there as the very best. I highly recommend it. Casual restaurant and prices are reasonable. Put this one on the list.

Lots of delicious Indian food for a reasonable price. Great variety. Every item is tasty, fragrant, and served at the proper temperature.

The reviews for this place were good. So I followed the reviews. The place is a bit crowded. Went for the weekend buffet. It was for $13. I was not impressed. I like my Indian food spicy. This was a bit toned down. There was some variety though I have seen more.

This one is a sad turn for lovers of authentic Indian food. The venue looks great and well decorated. The lighting is perfect. The crowd is not loud. A great place to hang out. The service needs improvement though. They promptly served papad with chutney. Papad was crunchy and fresh and chutneys were good too. The food was great but the service completely ruined the experience. The server was disinterested and unfocused. Just felt that they overcharge where they can - because they know they can.

I was excited to go to this place based on the reviews but found everything to be completely average. The service and the food were mediocre. The food seemed a bit bland. The waitstaff seemed completely uninterested in helping. In a city like New York with so many terrific restaurant options, I wouldn’t put this one on the list.

Really wanted to say how much I enjoyed dinner here. We tried a few other places in the neighborhood on the Friday and the wait times without a reservation were, in true Manhattan style, ridiculous. It was such comfort to get a seat here! Not a fancy or posh establisment, but enormously kind and respectful service, well cooked food and no pressure to leave. We tried a few of their masalas, garlic bread and rice and it was tasty. Thank you

When in the mood for some nice spicy food and authentic Indian flavours Dhaba will do the trick. Being Indian myself i can say that this place is above average. Nice atmosphere and clean restaurant as well. Reservation required as it can be packed at times.

We went to Dhaba Indian Cuisine at Lexington avenue , the food was extremely bad. The Naans served were lumpy , not freshly made, not even toasted well. One of the worst naans I ever ate, could not even eat. The service has been pathetic. All the time they were arranging the tables repetitively..not even asking or looking at the customers. No service at all. Neither the food nor the service is good...Very disappointed, just a ripoff. I would definitely not recommend and I would never ever visit this restaurant again.

Over the years, we have dined at Dhaba too many times to count. Dhaba appears to have changed ownership. It has joined those so called “HIP” Restaurants where music with a high bass is played. That makes everyone talk louder to those at their table, ETC. The high level of others talking loudly to overcome the music has transform Dhaba into something unpleasant. We will not return. We dined here on May 20, 2014 with a party of four adults. The quality of the Chicken Tika Msla, Shrimp Curry, Basmati Rice, Garlic Naan was still very good. But due to the high noise level, we must cross Dhaba off our list.

My friend and I frequent Dhaba's lunch buffet on the weekends. It is the best Indian buffet in the city - hands down! The restaurant is small and usually fills up fast, but we've managed to get a seat each trip. The items each week are usually the same, but the quality and flavour are always consistent. I particularly enjoy their chilli chicken (spicy but not too spicy), the kadai pakoda and also their array of condiments. The servers bring fresh naan, poori and tandoori chicken to the table on request (included with the buffet). With tax and tip, the meal is usually around $20. Highly recommended for those that appreciate good Indian food on a budget.

Lovely meal, great flavours. Small and friendly so I would imagine it would be safer to book a table.the garlic Naan bread was gorgeous as were our mains although hotter than same dishes in the uk.

good place for vegetarians to have lunch or dinner.Veg starters are very good Servic is good and enjoyable tasty food

Clean restaurant which is a big plus although there is a sign in the bathroom that says "do not flush paper towels or TOILET PAPER in the toilet"-where do you think that should go? Beer is cheap here, food is good and somewhat spicy. Breads are excellent. Do not overload on apps as the main dishes are better. Stay away from the horrible wines, avoid over expensive cocktails and drink good beer at a very fair price. 2 very large beers , 2 cocktails, 4 apps and 4 entrees and rice for 4 was $ 220 including tax and tip crowded seating and no place to hang coats, bags....

My husbands favorite is Indian. This was a good choice for the family, although typically I have a problem with overly spicy food. We had chicken and lamb birany and it was good. Considering the crowd, service was slow, but ok.

Opens till late when other indian places are closed. Great north indian food. We were there past midnight and our server was either too tired or drunk - orders were mixed up with the next table. Still - no complains as long as the food continued to be as good as it is.

I love spicy food and I must say that Dhaba delivered the goods and more. I had the vindaloo and I found religion.

We visit this restaurant twice in our 5 day visit. We really enjoyed the food and the environment. The staff was very attentive and the price was good.

We were staying at the Hotel Giraffe and asked for a recommendation for Indian Food and they oh you are lucky, there are some amazing Indian Restaurants a block away. We have eaten in many Indian restaurants all over the world, and Sri Lankan and Bangladeshi and Pakistani, so we aren't innocents. Dhaba was great ! Authentic, huge portions, great service, the place was packed and full of real ambience.

This review is written primarily for Indians who would be visiting NYC & would be craving for Indian food. This restaurant is situated in Lexington avenue along with tons of other Indian restaurants to choose from. This restaurant is quiet popular here, the service was good & the ambience added to the vibe. Like in India, you get a small plate of free papad, the same was given here too. The delhi style papdi chat was nice & diff than Mumbai or delhi. The paneer makhani & dal tadka were decent too & were served with a salad. Though rate wise was steep like paneer makhanwala was about $16 and dal around the same rate. The chaat was around $ 8-9 too. Tips which are a part of the New York culture & thankfully this place didn't mention how much minimum tip was to be left & we could leave as much as we liked. Also if you are splitting the bills only 2 Credit cards are allowed to split the bill in.

Elaborate north indian food options with options of drink makes this place unique with other indian food joints. Bread and preparation is above average and hence quite a popular restaurant in mid-manhattan area.

I took my son to Museum of Mathematics and on the way we ran into "Dhaba". He asked to go there, so we booked a table near the window for 4pm to avoid lunch craziness and insanety of dinner time. We both ordered "favorites/famous" dishes. Both were just ok. I ate less than half. My son did not like his choice at all. We`ve eaten in at least 2 dozen indian restaraunts, and this one, in our opinion, not higher than a middle, not the worst one, but way far off from the best either.

wide menu , great for vegetarian , many choices . Well cooked food. very noisy restaurant not suitable for business dinner. fair prices.

Tasty well spiced meal, great selection of curries including vegan and vegetarian and the lunch deal is cheap :) although staff could have been a bit more friendly!

We had lunch one day at Dhaba during our 5-day stay in Manhattan - it was so good, we came back a couple of days later for another lunch. While there were probably ten or so dishes on the buffet, each was excellent. Servers came around with warm naan, tandoori chicken, and pakoras. The dishes on the buffet and the pakoras were different on our two visits - it was all good! The price was very fair. We made sure to arrive right when they opened and had no trouble getting a table. The tables are quite close together, but the few tables in the front window give you a little more room.

We visited this evening for dinner. While we were seated watched the staff including the owner not wearing mask within in door restaurant catering to over 50 take always with scores of delivery boys. When asked to wear their mask, the owner and manager were rude and asked who are we to ask them to comply with NYC guidelines. I urge NYC administration to immediately shut such places which could become breeding grounds of uptick in Covid cases in NY. Needs URGENT action to shut such places.

Amazing, takka is delicious Nan bread is delicious Checking masala is delicious I will recommend the restaurant for friends and family

The food is indeed wonderful but you cannot hear yourself think in this place, it may be the loudest restaurant in the city, which is saying something. We had to scream at each other to be heard. My STRONG recommendation if you live in the city or have a place to take take-out would be to get take out and eat it elsewhere. Recommended of what we had was the Madras curry, the Chicken Do Piaz, the garlic Naan, an eggplant starter (forget the name but it was great) and the chicken drumstick/wing starter that comes out on a smoking platter. If you DO go there, BOOK in advance (people were waiting outside the door) and say everything you need to with your dining companions before or after. Also, service up and down....

Very good food, made right, not too spicy. I never heard of this place before till now, when my friends told me about this place. From jersey it is a little bit far but it seems like it worth the trip to NY.

We arrived around 1800 hrs and the restaurant was occupied to 30%. At 1900 it was full. The food was excellent but at 2030 it was difficult to have a conversation without raising your voice.

We were looking for an Indian restaurant on Lexington. Dhaba had a mix of reviews in various sights but ranked near the top on each so we decided to go. Service and food were very good! The majority of the guests appeared to be Indian which is always a good sign. I would definitely recommend and would go again.

We are planning to go to another restaurant on Lexington but it didn’t look good and saw Dhaba so decided to check it out. We had no expectations but were pleasantly surprised at the great food chapati and chutney were served immediately and we ordered choole bhature, vegetable biryani and murgh tandoor the chole bhature were very good - we’ve had them at many places and one or the other is good but not both and here both were good the vegetable biryani was excellent and had great flavor the murgh tandoori was also good - we ordered regular naan and peshawari naan - the regular tandoori naan was good; the peshwari had raisins and nuts which were odd overall — good food in a nice ambiance

Been here for lunch, dinner and Sunday buffet. All three experiences were remarkable, especially the buffet. The Sunday buffet is one of the best values in town. Every option was fresh and hot, with subtle spices. The cooking style was such that as a non-Indian, you're not feeling it or reeking of it days later. The Saag Paneer was outstanding and be sure not to miss the dessert Gulab Jamun. The buffet offers 10-12 entree and side dish options for the same price as one entree, so you can sample all sorts of taste bud tingling dishes. Plus they unexpectedly bring around marinated chicken legs and plenty of fresh bread. Friendly staff.

Probably the worst indian meal that I have had outside india , the service just sucked despite the place being empty. The food was so ordinary and highly avoidable as many more better joints than this one . Looks like most of their chefs are Mexican and could be the reason for the lousy food .

Truthfully I've always gone to 6th St. for Indian food in NYC. We decided to try an alternative in the high 20's/Lex when meeting a friend who lives uptown. We selected Dhaba because it has an interesting selection of reviews which mostly rate the food highly (but the service not so). I made a res through Open Table which was a really good thing because the place was packed at 8pm on a winter Wed night. They did indeed have our reservation and we were seated immediately. The resaurant, with the usual 3 columns of tables/booths, is comfortably decorated in warm colors. The menu is quite large with indications of dishes they consider spicy and those chosen as house favorites. Regular mugs of beer are $6. giant mugs $10 and they offer the usual Kingfisher as well as a Sri Lankan brew and Harpoon IPA -- all for the same price. There are also wines and cocktails. We had 2 appetizers. The aloo tikki chat (potato patties with chickpeas) flavors were a bit muddy but the yogurt sauce was really good. The paneer taash kabobs (grilled bricks of paneer without the "shish"which means stick) however were charred and very tasty. 2 breads -- a giant steaming poori and good, but not great, garlic naan. The naan could have been more garlicky and more charred around the edges for flavor. Mains: Sadly the saag paneer was characterless. This is one of my favorite dishes and I expected more. Bindi gosht (lamb and okra) was very good but not spicy at all (even though indicated as spicy on the menu). Malai marke butter murgh had a great silky sauce but the chicken itself was a little overcooked. This was also far less spicy than expected since it was also indicated as so on the menu. I think the prices are pretty high but this is the cost of uptown Indian food. Appetizers are $7-10 and mains $14 +. Breads are $4-5 and plain rice $3.50. With mains so high a single dish of rice really should be supplied to the table. We did not order daal but $12 seems awfully expensive for a plate of lentils. We may have ordered a little too much food, but for 3 of us including 2 beers, the bill was $100. We did not have dessert. A lot of reviews complain about the service. Our service was friendly and nicely attentive. Absolutely no complaints here on that. Honestly, the food has real potential but the chef needs to be much more liberal in making the dishes both flavorful and spicy. Portions are fair. I think some people misunderstand that the pots that the food is served in means that the portions are small. If the contents of the pot was spilled into a bowl and served, there would be fewer complaints. But the pots keep the food warmer longer and are suited for saucy dishes. Dishes with meat in them had a good amount of meat included. I was disappointed that there were not many goat entrees available, and that the only one (a goat curry) is $20.

One of the best indian food i have tasted in USA..try lunch buffet as you will be able to taste variety..mango or salty lassi is very good...if you are in new york and try indian food, come here..place has indian music playing so of u like it thats a plus...

4 day trio to NYC. I really enjoy indian food and have tried it all over the world. The Dhaba was recommended to me by a friend who lived for 10 years in NYC. I have never eaten worst indian food! I ordered samosas and onion bhajis for starter - and these were ok. The lemonade they made was like a salty soapwater drink - not drinkable. The main course - and this dish - chicken tikka masala - should be the flagship of every indian restaurant all over the world - was like italian tomato-cream sauce for cannelloni. it lacked of every inidan spices and herbs for a genuine taste. It hab no hotness to it and tastet dull and the chicken breast made the impression of just having been added before serving and not been marinated in the sauce. The rice was unsalted, tasted like overwatered parboiled long grain rather than basmati rice. The naan tasted like someone hab just opened a ready made 5 a pack supermarket package and warmed it up in the microwave. So - very dissapointing- not authentic and not even tasty at all. Lets just hope NYC has better indian food to offer.

Ordered take out through Caviar. Four entrees, bread and rice. While we like spicy food several of he dishes, which were all vegetarian, were too spicy. On the caviar menu there was absolutely no indication of spicy intensity. For $110 should be communication.

This restaurant is absolutely stunning. My husband and I ate here for a late lunch. We missed the daily buffet from 11:30am to 3pm. We had an absolute gastronomic feast! We asked the owner if it was possible to have a lamb and chicken dish and this was no problem. Our food was gorgeous and very reasonably priced. If you want a tasty curry then dine here!

This is the fresh, authentic, delicately seasoned Indian cuisine. We had a party of 12, celebrating a birthday and the staff was so accommodating, It is a small venue and one can actually have a conversation, the background music was low, lights dim. We had the benefit of a food connoisseur ordering for us. Some newbies to the cuisine , some well-versed. This is not a made for American palate curry curry curry, though the curries are available. Each biryani was a stand out, not greasy, not gummy. The mulligatawny variation is a thickened style, mild coriander/coconut soup. I will be back

Dhaba in NYC offers excellent Indian cuisine at very reasonable prices. The atmosphere is pleasant and the service was great. It is located in an area that is saturated with Indian restaurants, markets, etc and would be easy to overlook since it isn't as large or flashy as some of the others. We plan to make this a routine stop when we visit Manhattan in the future.

Visited Dhaba for dinner - sadly they have stopped taking reservations either over phone or even at the place which was super frustrating. We had to stay at the door for almost an hour just to make sure we don't lose our place in the queue. The menu was great and there were lot of options. We tried the paneer, daal makhani and naan. The service was super slow and we had to repeatedly ask for our food even post 30 minutes of order. The food was tasty though. The daal did not feel like authentic daal makhani that you get in Dhabas of India, which was disappointing. But still we had a great time eating. They should focus on the service and queuing to improve the experience.

Our group included a vegan, vegetarian, and omnivores. This restaurant made everyone happy (even those who don't really care for Indian cuisine). I highly recommend the cashew appetizer. Lots of different naan to choose from as well. We had chicken marsala, chicken vindaloo, aloo saag, chole pujabi, tamarind eggplant, potato balls, and fried cheese.

Starting with jars of water and buttermilk.. a unique way of serving. The food is very good. Service I would say a bit lacklustre. Had a keep standing and waiting for the attendant to come and talk to us also.Once seated the service was decent. The food is very good.. really hot. There was buffet also but we went for the Ala-carte.Panner,dal all was of good standard.

We really liked the food and the service too. Food was excellent specially Panner Kali Mirch and Lassi.
Good food, generous portions, miserable staff...
Authentic Punjabi food and certainly can't complain about the portions. Prices good for NYC given the quality. Not sure why the staff give the impression that they are doing you a favour allowing you to eat there...
