Brunch unusual and original

By Dajoma |

They have a very interesting menu. We had the Black Rice coconut kale and Lentil soup. The food and service was good and the staff very friendly. A good restaurant well worth visiting again.

You must try this place!!!

By Pickygirl46952 |

Love, love, love this place. Had it not been for Hotel Mimosa, I would not have known about this restaurant/diner, so special thanks to them. My husband and I visited twice out of our 3 mornings in NYC. We tried several different things, including breakfast tacos, breakfast sandwiches, the porridge, the ginger-tumeric drink, and delicious drip coffee and macchiato. While the food was very delicious, I was most impressed by the staff, they were GREAT!! You are lucky to have such wonderful, patient, and helpful staff!! Please continue to acknowledge them for their hard work :)

Amazing Breakfast Spot!

By misopiso88 |

Two of us were looking for a healthy breakfast option and found Dimes. The food was DELISH and so was the coffee. We ordered the matcha pancakes and an egg dish and they were both excellent. About a dozen tables inside. Highly recommend!

Great for an alternative hipster breakfast

By christina a |

We really enjoyed our breakfast here. The place has beautiful cozy interior and the stuff is very friendly. Seems like it is THE place for hipsters. Loads of trendy young people sitting in the tables and bar. Their coffee was excellent so was the food! Organic, tasty and inventive. We love trying different food and flavors especially when we are on a holiday and this place is exactly that. Tried the summer tacos, the breakfast sandwich and last but not least the Nori wrap with black rice which was amazingly refreshing.

Pleasant surprise

By Kim8125 |

Small menu. Fresh ingredients. Got crowded quickly. 2 types beets with coconut shavings, sunflower seeds & mint - delicious! Also the black rice, mussels, pulled pork - yum!

Love different styles of restaurants and this was definitely that, clean and chill atmosphere with cute cups and plates and delicious food , I️ enjoyed it very much

A Canal Street must

By Wasitanygood |

It's a long way down Canal Street to Dimes, but worth the stroll. Excellent food and cocktails in this smallish place. Loved the steak I had ($24). Decent veggie options too. Bill for two came to around $110 for dinner excl. service. Typical NY issue, but tables are pretty close together so bit tight on space.

Excellent service and eats

By Mohana R |

My friend didn't want me to post about Dimes because this is her favorite neighborhood spot. The tables are very cosy so you will be sharing space with those seated next to you. Delicious fresh tea, hot and cold, and tons of menu items to choose from including a savory toast you wouldn't think was good for breakfast but you'll eat every bite.

A good breakfast spot

By JoeHouston52 |

Small and cozy. Quick and friendly service. Good selection of cocktails and extensive selection of teas. I had the bloody Mary - quite spicy and the ladies had teas. The breakfast tacos were good, spicy, and large - you could split this dish. The ladies liked their quinoa and salad choices. $65 damages with tip but that included a $10 cocktail. Entrees are $8 - $13 so not too pricey.

Funky little place....

By SidSidow |

Pretty much what I expect my son to find!! A recent re-location to New York has him searching for places like this. This day his little brother and I were visiting before our trip to Europe. Great breakfast sandwich - worth the whole funky trip! Try to find it, not well marked from the outside!

Surprisingly good food in lively neighbourhood

By Saskia |

We we're looking for restaurants with a different menu than the burgers and kale salads you usually find in organic places. We ordered the Patty Platter and loved it! Service was great, choice of food and drinks also good. Don't forget to visit the Dimes store across the street to take some delicious food home.

Stewed drippy coffee... waiters fried, scrambled... poached? Definitely baked!

By inspectorpasquino |

Going to start at the end (back to front vibe here)....my cheque arrived on a postcard of Stonehenge! Bit of sentimentality for me as my mother was a Druid in her former years, I should of mentioned that and perhaps I would of got a discount! Not much to mention here, a pseudo hippy vibe with, in my opinion an overpriced and rather bland menu. I don't mind a bit of pretension but the feeling here is one is being over charged to by into an ethos that prides itself on the appearance of doing very little aka incompetence. The additional beef patty looked and tasted a bit like it was prepared the night before by neil from the young ones.... only he's a vegetarian but you get the idea. The greens were an assortment of leaves and the toast could of done with butter, maybe it's unethical these days. Anyway this is just personal opinion, there was nothing really wrong with it was just underwhelming and overpriced in my opinion. Still I got a nice postcard I can send to my mum to remind her of the good times rolling on the stones with King Arthur pendragon. Peace and spiritualismsss yall

Evening in Chinatown

By JPSalik |

This is more like gentrified part of town as all the patrons in Dimes seemed young and hip. They were no Asian there except for one mixed couple (Caucasian and Asian). It was a mix of young people with other mixed couple like Caucasian and Black. I must have been the oldest guy there and was glad I left my suit and tie at the office. My daughter lives a few blocks away and loves the emerging neighborhood attracting all the young professionals and artists. A block away The Fat Radish is another of her hangouts. It was packed, noisy with conversation and we had to wait twenty minutes for a table for three. We ordered black bass fish and it took another twenty minutes. They have decent wines so I got some Muscadet at the table. The food was very good and I understood why it was so popular. Dessert was also good and we finished with Armagnac. I was surprised by the French influence on the wine list. The service is casual but the staff friendliness made up for any lack. No bread, that was missing for me. I love my Kayser baguette. I will go back for a casual dinner with family or friends.

Funky Breakfast

By 75ADH |

Had been recommended this cafe by friends. Hipster location with fresh food good coffees and juices. Little pricey for what it was, but good quality and very healthy. Very small, so expect to queue at busy times

Good food once it was corrected, but dark lighting

By LRsquared |

Stopped here with the folks. Trendy little place that was a little too dark for our taste. Needed our phone flashlights not only to see the menu, but to see the food we wound up eating! Food was good: black rice dish (vegan option) was deceptively filling and interestingly tasty; sea bream fish was tender and buttery. Only issue was the bar steak (flank) dish - it was so tough it was inedible and had to send it back. Waiter said it's supposed to be tender - offered us another of the same, but we didn't want to take the chance, so wound up getting another one of the sea bream fish. Unfortunately, it took so long to make the new dish, everyone else was done with their meals by the time the replacement came out (even after we tried to eat slowly). It seemed like there wasn't a rush put on it. I would have given the place a better score - because the food was good - but due to the the need for flashlights, having to send back the steak, and then the length of time it took to make the new meal (as well as the waiter not being available much, even though it was a small place), I'd have to say that we might not be "brave" enough to return. Still, it seems like it has a good following so probably still a good choice for those who like the menu.

Healthy and Delicious

By Gabriel M |

The best salads and mixed drinks. The mixed drinks are so good and might healthy in small doses, be careful not to drink too many. The cod is also buttery and delicious. I also recommend the flowerless chocolate cake. Dimes is worth a visit to the lower east side.

Lovely busy but not crazy

By DCmom4 |

Lovely busy but not crazy loud. Our table got miso chicken, steak, pulled pork, and the black rice vegetarian dinners, so we had good assortment. Everyone was happy. Drinks ( mixed and homemade limeade are delicious).

Excellent food questionable service.

By Staylee |

My husband and I were shocked to find Dimes smack in the middle of Chinatown. The menu is rather basic but was delicious. Our server did his job but was not warm and fuzzy by any stretch of the imagination. I literally think he said 2 words to us our whole visit. Thankfully the food spoke for itself. We would return for the excellent food.

Enjoyable and relaxed atmosphere

By DawnB2310 |

Really enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere in this place and very helpful staff. We only had coffee and a snack but the food coming out of the kitchen looked delicious. The coffee was great!!! The empty plates returning also a great sign! Excellent service thank you

Still don't know what happened...

By KRMG57 |

Traversed the disgusting cold slush one morning to try Dimes, a breakfast spot recommended by a favorite bartender. Entered to find modern decor with spa-like zen music playing - a little outside of what I expected in Chinatown, but whatever. The host sat us at a table with no menus or place-settings. He then sat the guests who came in after us, and brought them menus, utensils and water. My dining partner and I couldn't figure out what was going on, and after 5 minutes of being ignored, we got up and left. On the way out, said host thanked us and told us to "have a good day". Not sure what, if anything, he was on - but he either needs more or less... Save your time, money and dignity and eat at the delicious diner around the corner.

Original menu

By Laila K |

Organic ingredients and efficient service with great options for brunch and lunch, a little hard to locate though, a good map ora google search beforehand is mandatory otherwise u will wonder on the edges of the city below downtown

Delicious and love their store across the street!

Excellent on all counts

By Alan18S |

Dimes moved recently down the block to a slightly larger space. The space itself is well decorated, has a nice atmosphere and has a modern look. We sat at a beautiful corner table that was asymmetrical. We started waiting at the bar for a table and the drinks were good. We were lucky and didn't have a long wait but sometimes there is a long wait for a table. The food is very, very good. My wife thinks it is one of the best meals she ever had, and we eat out all the time. I would say it was an exceptional and memorable meal. The service was excellent, the wait staff friendly and efficient and the chef created a very interesting menu. The menu covers all the bases without being excessive. Prices are extremely reasonable for the quality of the food and service.

Super California-style Vegan-ish Breakfast!

By bobbyintexas |

This restaurant is a short walk from the Wyndham Garden Chinatown and I enjoyed breakfast there on two occasions in November after Thanksgiving. Terrific service, they make their own hot sauce, Vegans, Vegetarians, and meat lovers all satisfied here.

Wheatgrass Margarita, Perfect!

By Zamalama |

I don't consider places like this as quintessentially NYC but so what? Good is good! Quinoa salad and wheatgrass juice margarita, soooo darn tasty! Space is cozy w tiny tables closely spaced. Price is just right, $12 for the drink and I think it was $14 for the salad. Service was sporadic, a bit too slow for me and for moment there I thought they had forgotten our table! Drinks and food came out together, which, ended up being a good thing since they went so well together. I would definitely go back.

Fabulous Food

By Jacqui B |

We, a party of 3, arrived late in the evening, after a long flight from Australia. What a great way to start our stay in New York! We had a really good cocktail, followed by a fabulous meal. I had a delicious salmon dish. It's a small, basic restaurant but had a pleasant atmosphere. The service was friendly and efficient. One of the best meals I've had in my travels!

Great brunch

By Virginie M |

I had brunch at Dimes last month. The place is very small but it was not too noisy and the food was delicious. I had a hard time choosing what to eat cause everything looked good. I finally picked the Huevo Kathmandu and I was not disappointed.

Decent food- saw a star there

By elissa s |

We were at their deli counter across the street. Saw America Ferrera there with her hubby. yay! The food was good, self service with the water and busing your table. Food is overall super healthy and full of flavor.

Organic-ish brunch place

By Khanh-Linh L |

This is a nice brunch but a bit too much on the organic-green juice-kale-beetroot side... Definitely Instagram friendly with nice interior, light - but this is not comfort food! A good place of you are vegan

Simple and nice

By giuliaz |

On the lower east side, in a lively atmosphere, between pedestrian streets and nice shops, we ate al fresco very pleasantly. Simple, tasty cuisine with many vegetables. Informal and friendly service.

Great food in a hipster atmosphere

By Steven P |

My buddy and I had a lovely breakfast here. The breakfast sandwich was super and the coffee tasty. We got there on one of the coldest mornings of the year and they just opened so it was kind of very cold inside. They apologized a few times and the place warmed up quite quickly anyway.

Great little lunch spot

By perthtravellor |

We lucked upon Dimes when wandering about the lower east side one lunchtime and loved it. The atmosphere was trendy and upbeat, nicely laid out colourful tables with good music, helpful service and a really appetizing menu. We both had the Amish Chicken and cous cous, which was really tasty, along with a side of cauliflower. Yum! A small but perfectly adequate wine list, polite hipster youth serving staff who didn't seem to mind we were old enough to be the parents of everyone else in the joint, and a modest amount of money made for a great experience.

Dimond in the rough

By MerryMary88 |

Dimes is a little gem in a slightly rough neighbourhood. It is so cute and delicious - its decor, food and coffee with friendly staff and an interesting crowd. Perfect brunch / meeting place any day of the week. Food - 4.5/5 Coffee - 4/5 Ambience - 4/5 Service - 4/5 Value for money - 4/5 Overall - 20.5/25

Great all around meal

By rachelia18 |

Perfect meal - attentive waiter. Recommend the Burrata, Steak (everything on this plate was perfect), and the basil gelato dessert. The mussels were a bit overrated. Nothing about this meal was "healthy" - I dont quite get where all those comments are coming from.

Someone already said this... FABULOUS FOOD

By oohl |

The dishes and drinks couldn't POSSIBLY have been better... lovely new flavours and beautifully presented. We had a late dinner on a weeknight, bit of a dicey neighbourhood, but the ambience couldn't have been more pleasant. A real jewel here. The only thing that could have been nicer, would have been the brusque attitude of the service. Service was excellent, and I'm not asking for unctuous, but it would be nice to feel like the person bringing your food was happier about it. It wouldn't keep me from coming back, though!

The official address is 49 Canal Street, NY, NY 10002

By bi22016 |

This small restaurant has an relaxing environment. The servers were patient and helpful. Most their foods were presented nicely, and look inviting. We were there for a Saturday lunch. My son really like the BLT he ordered, especially the salad served with it. I ordered one of their salads, the Dimes Caesar Salad, with anchovies and goat cheese vinaigrette. I found the marination was too salty and thick. Adding to the salty anchovies the salad was overly salty. The goat cheese was rather mild though. We also tried their side eggplant. It was delicious.

great different breakfast in modern setting!

By hpheleen |

a small but colorful and fresh looking restaurant in lower east side. The breakfast menu has a different touch, i took huevo Kathmandu and my friend Tacos.. all good cooked and not too spicy..

Simply Delicious !!!!

By Comfy_traveler |

The food here is amazing The drinks are great, alcohol and they somehow feel healthy ! Weird but goooood Wheatgrass margarita was awesome - I drank 2 Then had a milk river - also really good 😁 I opted for the salmon plate for dinner and everything went together so well. They do it right here. It’s a great place to eat, drink, and relax. Looking forward to going back soon

Dimes: A great place to spend your dimes

By Sankarmukh |

We, a party of 2, had reservation on Saturday at 7 pm. The restaurant is on the edge of china town and kind of in desolate but ok location. Upon arrival we were seated right away. The restaurant is very small. May be has seats for 28 people or so. The decoration is sparse , all white walls but it looked great to me. We ordered Gin & Juice and a beer, Reissdorf Kolsch to start. For food we ordered, cauliflower toast to start with and quinoa bowl and pulled pork as mains with carrots as a side. The cauliflower is absolutely divine with great taste. My pulled pork which seems to be Asian fusion but worked great. The main was quite large . My wife enjoyed her quinoa bowl. The carrots were really great and one of the best I had. For dessert, we had chocolate cake , cappuccino and café americano. I can say that food is quite extra-ordinary and the service is quite friendly and efficient. The check for 2 with tax and tip was $121.00. I will definitely keep this restaurant on my list.

Lovely and quirky little place

By Cornelia K |

We visited Dimes right after their opening in the morning, around 9 am and were among the first visitors. We didn't know about Dimes before, but found it on Tripadvisor and it had favorable reviews. This place didn't disappoint! The food was lovely and fresh, with a superb menu. I had the steal-oaths with rhubarb jam and quinoa puffs, and rye bread with fried eggs. My husband had the pancakes with agave, and the breakfast sandwich. Everything was delicious! It's a little café, and around 10 am it was packed. All the guests sits close and there was some waiting time for the guests that arrived after 10 am. The prices were in our opinion normal for at big city like N.Y. Compared to smaller cities it's pricy, but nothing out of the ordinary and the food is really good! We recommend Dimes for everyone that wants a delicious breakfast/brunch.

High Point on Lower East

By Dean R |

Packed to the hilt on a Sunday afternoon, a friend and I enjoyed a delicious, vegetarian, lunch here. The modern decor is bright and cheerful, and staff were constantly cleaning to keep things immaculate despite the crowds. The menu included every currently trendy food item (kale, quinoa, açai, etc.), but the use and presentation of them was impeccable. Bright, clean delicious flavors on our dishes. All at a very affordable price point--which may be part of its popularity.

Really bad place

By MishitaBuenosAires |

So not recommend this place. Prices are crazy, and we asked for two plates that did not fullfill us at all. We were so hungry once we got out, that we went to get pizza. Portions are really small and expensive. The same with the glass of wine, so small! Looked like a free sample. We expended seventy dollars plus tip and were so dissapointed!

Service with an attitude, but the food was tasty

By lukewitmer |

We arrived as a party of nine. They said they don't server parties our size. I immediately replied that we were subsequently a party of 4 and another party of 5, which got us in the door. There were several empty tables because we arrived when they opened. The server took extra time before taking our order, forgot a few things which he apologized about once we reminded him, and we felt like we were a bit of a bother to him (which shouldn't be the case in a restaurant if you ask for things nicely). Overall they weren't very attentive or polite. The food was tasty. It is definitely not a very kid friendly place. No booster seats or high chairs. We will not be going back.

Dimes is a great spot for dinner. The food, the crowd, the noise level was just right!

By Hawaiian555 |

We had no reservations this evening and all the restaurants we visited was overbooked, over crowded and too loud. Dimes seemed just right and the wait was less than 15 minutes. So glad we stayed. This is the first time I've come to Dimes for dinner so was pleasantly surprised by the ambience. Loved the lighting. I started with the red house wine and it was a perfect match for the wonderful dinner we were about to eat. The dessert was great too! Sarah our waitress was fabulous! Overall the evening was wonderful!

Delicious Acai bowl

By Clemency S |

About the only healthy food I managed to eat whilst in New York- the Red berry Acai Bowl had just the most delicious granola Ive ever tasted so had to go back and have it again a couple of days later. Saw some of the hot breakfasts other people were eating and they also looked good. Only downside is the tea is rather expensive!

Dimes is a good trendy breakfast spot!

By Hawaiian555 |

Dimes is a small cozy breakfast spot in Chinatown. It's usually buzzing with trendy folks in a colorful atmosphere. The food is good and we keep coming back for more.

Good gluten free and dairy free options

By SydneySider98 |

Nice staff, very busy on Sundays. Good options for eating gf and df, or vegan and vegetarian. Would come again.

Average food

By Ramadama |

We decided to eat outside because the inside was dark and small. They have a limited menu . The salads were average where some of the lettuce looked wilted. The salmon entre was good. Be prepared for slow service due to the limited number of staff.

informal and delish!

By Deyna V |

I've had breakfast, lunch and dinner at Dimes -- and it never disappoints. If you're looking for vegan or not, food is fresh and beautifully served. Wait staff are a dream!

I'm Looking For A Dime(s)

By sprungonfood |

Dimes isn’t new, they opened up in 2013, but they recently moved into a bigger space, which has been getting them a lot of attention. Probably because now, more people can join in the restaurant to get their healthy, yet still delicious fix. So, I was off to scope out the new digs at their Chinatown location. Ok, so, remember how I said they were expanding into a bigger space? Well, it’s still pretty cozy, but, this is New York, so, we’re all pretty used to smaller spaces. However, the amount of appeal from their menu is huge. I wanted to order about half of all the items on the menu, but I zoned in on a dish for my main. I ordered the Striped Bass (green curry, salmon roe, baby corn, patty pan squash). So. This was incredible. The only negative thing I can say about this dish, was that there wasn’t three times the amount of it for me to eat. It was so incredibly delicious, as well as beautifully plated. The vibrancy of colors immediately lures you in, and then the flavors win you over. The fish has a light and crisp skin, and underneath it’s perfectly tender and flaky. The green curry sauce was killer, it had a kick of heat, and if I could order a bowl of that as soup, it’d eat it all the time in the winter to keep me warm. All the other components went so well together, the crispness of the corn, the soft and tender squash, and the saltiness from the roe. Well done, dish, well done

Cool place, average food and staff

By Selina K |

Nice little place, was recommended it by a friend. Visited for brunch. Loved the decor, especially the little pastel coloured mismatched tables. Food was okay, a bit pricey (as was the coffee and juices) but the main thing to let it down was the overly cool, surly waitress.

Loved it!!

By Alice V |

I went here with my sisters and my mom and I totally loved it!!! The food is delicious and the atmosphere is very cozy and laid back... I ordered their matcha pancakes and they were so fluffy and yummy.. I'm craving them just thinking about it.. Great prices and great service as well... Love love love :) will definitely come back

Great food, but way too noisy

By Amy C |

The food we had (rice and veggies bowl and açai bowl) was delicious The prices are low, with good quantity, but the place is so noisy we left quickly after finishing our plates.

Cozy Tasty and a little Spendy

By wbh9 |

Nice little place that serves a few good dishes. I liked my quarter chicken and my mom liked her black rice salad. Split decision on the pulled pork. It was a little bit pricey, but not outrageous. The atmosphere was cozy and lively, a little bit self-counsciously hip. Worth a visit.

Dimes ! Amazingly delicious

By Comfy_traveler |

this place is small, cozy and fun and the best part is that the food is amazing! you cant go wrong with anything on the menu - seriously its all good. this time around we had cauliflower toast- which was delicious it has a nice curry flavor, it was a perfect appetizer, I went with a friend and we had wheat grass margaritas that were absolutely delicious and fun and offered slightly less guilt... we were doing a "healthy" drink. LOL for the main entree we mixed it up with the large plate offerings 1 was salmon which was completely delicious - cooked perfectly and delicious the other was the veggie option which was just as good if not better than the salmon. the only thing we weren't crazy about was the kumquat rice pudding- it was way too heavy on the kumquat and we found it to be overpowering to the other flavors.. overall this place is truly good the menu is well thought out and simple yet complex flavors are combined on each plate that make this place stand out. if you have a chance and you are in NY you should consider going here. I seriously doubt you will be disappointed.

Fantastic little diner with a modern yet classic touch

By Tjongo |

Great little place for breakfast. Food very tasty, and with a modern touch. Kind staff and the caffe latte was both as delicious as the food and artistic. Their juice also very good.

Nice and feels healthy

By directly |

Had the sweet potato tacos and a apple cider vinegar based drink. Drink was very good, tacos could have used a bit more seasoning, but the atmosphere is pleasant, the service good, and not overly expensive.

Yumm!

By jillelondon |

Vegan treats were my faves! ...great juices and vegan deli foods. Friendly service. Thank you Dimes!

Great brunch!!!

By Carlo Andrea B |

Really great place to have brunch. It was a little crowded on sunday morning but we waited for 10 min and we got the table. The food was delicious as well as the atmosphere. Would come back for sure
