Great spot after visiting Central Park. Price and the portion size is excellent. Very authentic Italian pizza!

We often "eat-in" or "take-out" from this typical NYC pizza restaurant. The pizza is not typical. It is much better than the average pizza by the slice pizza place. The ingredients used are delicious and fresh . The crust is thin and baked just right in their pizza ovens. Their meal portions are large and reasonably priced. The staff is helpful and courteous .

Had a great experience here with a high school choir group (15) after touring the MMOA. Staff was very friendly, pizza (BBQ chicken was awesome) and cheesecake was very good, service was wonderful. Great typical NYC experience!

Lovely pizzeria. Cozy and friendly staff. You feel at home with good service and great food. Looking forward to return on next visit to NYC.

Excellent pizza (the small one is already big)! Cozy place and pretty affordable! Great staff. I would definitely come back!

Excellent food, authentic atmosphere, very affordable - a real must for a hungry family! Wholehearted recommendation!

We were in NYC for four days and this lucky find was the food highlight of our stay. We had wandered around the night before for some authentic NY pizza but just hadn’t found anywhere. Then, while we were wandering around on our last day we stumbled across Don Fillipo. The place and the food are authentic in every way and the team were so friendly. We had two giant slices of pizza...then had two more so we could try more flavours! 😳 When we visit NYC again we will DEFINITELY visit Don Fillipo. I can’t see how we can’t!

We stopped at Don Filippo on Lexington near the 77th Street Station recently for a couple slices, finding their cheese pizza to be ok. Crust was quite hard, making the pizza difficult to bite through and chew. This distracted from what otherwise seemed like rather good slices of cheese pizza. Just a few bucks each, so generally affordable for what you get. Indoor seating area is typical, enough tables for those dining on pizza by the slice as well as others there for seated Italian meals. Don Filippos has a full menu if you fancy something more substantial than a pizza. Seems they do delivery as well. Not sure we'd return for pizza slices, having enjoyed much better during visits NYC over the years. However, this seemed like a fair place to try if you are in this area of Upper East Side.

authentic NYC Pizza, stopped in a quick slice before heading to the MMOA, I had a traditional Sicilian and my husband had the buffalo chicken. Excellent service even though the place was busy at 12:30.

We just happened to be walking by when we decided to stop in to Don Filippo Restaurant for a quick lunch. Almost every table was taken and there was a line at the counter; good sign. Ordered their plain slices and the one (sorry, don’t know the name) that had fresh mozzarella, fresh tomatoes, and fresh basil. The crusts were nice and thin and the perfect combination of crispy bottom and softer top. The sauce on the pizzas was very good. Both types of pizza were excellent. So glad we stopped in.

Had a couple of slices of cheese pizza and some miniature paninis. Both were delicious but I like the pizza the best. We also had a chocolate and vanilla mousse and a peanut butter mousse these were delicious as well. It definitely wasn't knock it out of the park delicious but it was still good.

amazing pizza for the rest of the family for an amazing price but I am gluten free and although I was not looking forward to yet another salad - I was truly amazed that the salad here was so very flavourful!! - I loved it - truly - still remember it - wish I could make dressing like that - such an amazing place to eat!!

Walked in to a pizza joint nearby - no seatting & fru-fru flatbreads. Ducked into Don Fillipo's & found plenty of seating & giant pizza slices as well as fantastic pasta.Prices were reasonable & service great.

Pizza dive on Lexington. Near the end of the day, I guess that’s why the dining area seemed overdue for cleaning. Sure, sometimes pizza can be oily, but my slice was best described as “pooled”. Oh well, if that’s what they think sells...I should have cut my losses, pitched it, and gone to Famiglia. I would have just chalked it up to a bad dining choice, had they not ripped me off too. During my purchase the cash-register guy got distracted with some kind of commotion in the back of the store and walked off, so the cook eventually stepped up and rang me up, charging me about 25% more for each item I’d ordered than what it said on the menu. When I protested and tried to show him the receipt and the prices on his own menu, he pretended not to understand (or, whatever) and turned his back. Classic.

Had a great lunch today after visiting the MET. My son had the garlic bread as an appetizer. For the main course we had the spaghetti boulognes and I had the cheese ravioli. Both were great. I had the tiramisu which was ok.. Not beyond that.

We have stopped here for a dinner after Metropolitan museum visit. We had two types of veal, beer and wine. All of them were tasty. Even the pizzas they brought as appetizers.

Excelent place for a chilly afternoon... slices of pizza that are just perfect, and excelent prices! Also, service was friendly and helpful at all times! 1133 Lexington Ave btw 78 & 79th Tell them "hi" on behalf of the woman from Uruguay...

I really need to try other things when I go to NYC when I hit an Italian place like this, but I live in a virtual pizza wasteland in California. So when I hit NYC I want a PLAIN slice, this means just cheese, sauce and crust. Yes you get some great pepperoni, sausage etc on pies in NYC, but if you truly want to judge a slice the plain is the way to do it. This one hit it on all marks, although I didn't give them a 5 star, it was solid 4.5. The cust has the NYC Crunch that others just cannot seem to do and the sauce had nice flavor, color etc. The cheese was good although a little skimpy...but this is solid, I need to go and try some of the other stuff they had cause it all looked very good. People around me where having usual other Italian stuff, but what can I say on a 4 day trip I need more slices than spaghetti and meatballs.

With three pizza parlors in a one block radius, there really is only one worth going to in the UES neighborhood. This is it. Jose has been behind the force behind this mainstay, greeting regulars by name and serving up delicious slices of cheesy, thin crust wedges. Perfect comfort food on a freezing winter afternoon or evening. They have a full service Italian menu. My wife loves the homemade minestrone. If you are from out of town going to/from the Met Museum, this is the spot for a quick snack or full meal. It’s only a block from the 77th & Lexington #6 subway.

Great bite within walking distance to The Met and Central Park. Mozzarella and zucchini sticks are a must.

At lunch you sit alongside builders, lawyers and locals, all enjoy a very neighbourhood Italian experience. Happy people and good honest food.Try the minestrone or Pizza. Don't be put off by the entrance or interior.

We have lunch here, I got the meatballs and spaghetti and my girlfriend had the Don Filipo's specialty pasta and let me tell you that was some of the best chicken pasta I've had. Definitely recommend this place. Very affordable too.

I found this restaurant by searching for Italian food, $, on Trip Advisor. It had good reviews. 1) It was a neighborhood restaurant, and there appeared to be a combination of neighborhood folks and tourists. There were people eating in and people getting take out. 2) It was an easy walk from the Metropolitan Museum of Art. 3) We were able to sit at a booth and get menus. 4) The waitress was very good. 5) We ordered an entire pizza, which was very good and filling. We had leftovers and were able to take them with us. 6) I had a side salad, which was also very good and a decent size. I also had a glass of wine, which was fine. 7) I saw pictures of paper plates on Trip Advisor; however, we were served on real plates. 8) They had food other than pizza. 9) In my opinion, the price was very good for NYC. 10) I would definitely be willing to eat here again and would recommend this restaurant to others.

It's a small place, and I kind of stumbled on it and decided to give it a try - very good decision. The price is very fair and the pizza is great, very much like the original Italian pizza. The service was great, the very kind guy behind the counter helped us pick the best flavor for us and didn't let us leave without telling him what we thought about it. Loved it.

I've been coming to Don Filippo for years and the experience and food is always delicious. Whether it is for a slice or a full traditional Italian meal, the flavors are exactly what you want and the service is the best. Highly recommend this landmark spot

The place is quaint and typical of the upper east side of Manhattan. The pizza is New York style of course and was excellent. Paninis were great too.

A friend and I were looking for a lunch break between museum stops. We wanted a place to sit, relax and have a nice lunch. This place was perfect. We split a small pizza and both had the amazing lentil soup. Fantastic!

We were on our way to the Met and the teens wanted pizza. We happened by Don Filippo and we are so glad we did! We each ordered a slice, garlic knots to share, and a soda and it was plenty to fill up on for lunch (and the price was reasonable as well for a decent-sized slice). We lived in NJ for a while and have frequented many a NY pizzeria. The pizza here is so so good that you'll want to go for a 2nd slice -- but not if you have to walk the met and back to the subway (LOL). The seating was a little cramped, so our party of 6 had to split across 2 tables -- but at least there were plenty of seats. Both booths and tables. He even had one little half-booth where one person can sit, eat, and fit a laptop. Great find if you're visiting the Met and want a quick stop for authentic NY pizza. We will be back!!

A nice Italian restaurant were you can sit down before walking to Metropolitan Museum of art or Central Park! I like the location! Also it has a very delicious food like : Fettuccine Alfredo, make sure to add two extra meatballs and Italian Wedding Soup!

Pizza was delicious and had a genuine 'New Yorker' vibe... Service was exquisite, very understanding of tourists who had no idea what they're doing! Wine glasses were poured very generously!

Great food , very friendly service Pizza is good but dishes and eentrees are top tier It is not a fancy restaurant but definitely very comfy and well worth its price

Best Italian I ever had in my life. And for a very good price too. Friendly and good service! I took Phil's Favorite. Highly recommended.

I've worked in the neighborhood for 20 years and for as long as I've been here, so has Don Filippo. I've eaten everything from slices, to pies to heros to dinners. The food and service are consistently good. They have a variety of speciality pies and your typical Italian menu and all my selections have been top notch. In a city filled with pizza joints, this is one of the better ones!

Extremely good pizza and very affordable. I ate a slice of pepperoni pizza and a slice of mozzarella cheese pizza. Both where very good tasting and well made. Much better than the best I've tried home in Sweden. If you're at the MET museum I would recommend the 10 minute walk to this restaurant after the visit. It's very frugal as well and I paid 9$ for both slices and a 50cl soda (excluding the tip). However, I would probably recommend that you only order one slice for lunch if you're not extremely hungry (you can always order one extra afterwards if needed). The service was very good as well and we ended up with tipping 20%.

My daughter and I stumbled upon Don F following a visit to the Metropolitan. What a find! The staff could not have been friendlier and since it was about 2:30, we were seated pronto. I ordered Phil’s Favorite salad and it soon became mine. It was quite large and enough to share with one other person. My daughter ordered a small caprese pizza which could also have been shared, so we did! The garlic rolls are some of the best I’ve had- dense, soft, buttery and addictive. Finger smacking good! We were too full for dessert so sadly we had to pass on that. Decor is simple, service is wonderful, and the food is even better.

We visited Don Filippo after having been to the Metropolitan museum. We had a large pizza for four. One of us didn’t eat gluten and opted for the daily specials. The pizza was excellent. So were the daily specials (lentil soup and fish). A large pizza can be ordered with different toppings. The restaurant is small. Also does take out. Good for an informal lunch or dinner among friends. Friendly service, good food. Close to Central Park and the museums. Prices reasonable.

After years in the neighborhood, the closing of Mimi's(84//Lex) led us to go further afield for a modest Italian dinner and was this place a surprise . Had always passed it by as just a place for a slice but the fare is much more varied and very delicious. The garlic bread was so rich and greasily delicious that we could have made a meal of it but the entrees we had were excellent (a pasta dish and the eggplant parmesan) and the service was warm and welcoming, Definitely plan to return and recommend to others..

Oh wow, those garlic knots are to die for. The atmosphere is causal, but cute, and they have a bathroom. Best in the middle of the day when the pizza is super fresh. Oh man. Plus, decently inexpensive as far as slices go.

IN NYC for the first time visiting a friend near the restaurant. Pizza and service was great. We had a group of 10 who tried all different flavors of pizza. No complaints from anyone.

Every trip to New York City brings us to another pizza place. For some reason, New York City pizza is fabulous. We were looking for a place, someone on the street overheard us talking about it, and we are thankful that he spoke up and directed us to this place. So, if you are as into New York pizza as I am, and find yourself nearby (or even a short ride away), go to this place......you will be well-rewarded.

The pizza was good and not too expensive. Nice little place with seating and clean restrooms. I ordered pasta fagoli and some mini paninis as well.

I have been coming back for over 25 years. Their pasta dishes such as the pescatore are really great tasty values. The pizzas are creative such as the chicken Tijuana pizza which is super hot. They also will make you a great slice with jalapenos and anchovies...add red onions...yum. A real value winner.

If you want to spend a reasonable price and eat well you are in the right place. Italian products (pizza and desserts) very buoni.enu at full lunch and very plentiful. I highly recommend it.

Went here after finding out my old pizzeria had closed after nearly 60 years. I felt coming here a little like a trader, but I had no choice. That being said, they were friendly, and there toppings were very good and tasty. I ordered a pie with peppers and sausages I go. The place was packed and was convenient to where I was staying and is close to the Lexington Avenue subway station on 77th street. However, their crust, perhaps the most important component of a Neapolitan pizza, was a little chewy and lacked the crispness a New Yorker expects and demands. I will think hard as to whether to return or not as it did not fully meet my expectations. The hunt continues on the upper east side for a great pizzeria.

Stopped in for slices. Filled with locals. Large portions. You can order at the counter and then sit or you can sit and have them take your order.

Good Pizza and a decent slice. But only order from the counter. We sat at a table and it took forever! One waitress to cover the all of the tables.

Tired and with sore feet we wanted NY pizza! Saw this place and went in. There were a number of different pizza by the slices you could choose from. Tell them what you want and they pop them in the oven to heat up. My friend and I each got two slices plus a drink and paid $10.60 each. The slices certainly plumped up in the oven because they didn't look that big in the window! We made our way to the back and grabbed a booth. I really enjoyed the cheesiness and the slight crunch on the bottom BUT I was disappointed that otherwise they just tasted bland. Between the two of us we had four slices of different pizzas: Chicken Pesto, Margarita, Meat lovers, and Sicilian. Honestly, they all tasted the same to me. Then again, this isn't a gourmet place, it's a local joint and the value for money is spot on. If you want to grab a quick, cheap, filling lunch, here you go. If you're looking for the best pizza in NYC, you won't find it here. As a tourist I did enjoy the "localness" and the menu does have a lot more to offer then just pizza. I'd go back again. They always have a hot pie so it is quick and really easy to down a slice and keep moving. I am spoiled that my timing always works that the Pepperoni is just coming out of the oven when I arrive - so it is my pie of choice. You can sit at a table and have service or pick up and run......but always a treat. I Love going uptown for a cocktail or event and hitting Don Filippo on the way up and back on the way down. I can eat their pizza all day long for weeks. Just tastes like real NYC Pizza!

Too many tables jammed into the space took away from our enjoyment of the meal. Pasta dishes were OK but have definitely had better,

Was nearby and fancied a slice. Very cool old school New York eatery. Fantastic caprese slice. Great pizza.

Visiting NYC with my family first day & stumbled on this place by chance. We hadn't eaten since arriving. The pizza was great.

I went because I read the tripadvisor reviews and it hasn't let us down. Great price and excellent food with a sensational carbonara with a delicious guanciale and a very large and rich pizza highly recommended for an average with drinks of $20 per person

With two children in a need for pizza we passed this small and busy restaurant on our way back from the Metropolitan. Although full, they managed to arrange seats for us. Two sizes basic pizza’s (normal or large) usd18 or usd24. We were advised to take the regular size and this one was big! Enough for 3x people. Also ordered linguini carbonara which comes with a small salad for starter. Pasta was big and very tasteful. Pizza very good (we had half Caprese half Margarita) and loved that tasty tomato sauce. Red house wine usd 8, expensive like anywhere else in NY but its a big glass and almost double ‘european’ size. We just had a wonderful experience and will go back in the following days. Ps..want to point out that staff was very, very friendly.

No a.c. hot dirty pizza sucks no flavor and dry not the real ny pizza was expecting batter quality will not go back

We found this place on TripAdvisor, after visiting The Met. A small and nice place, with good Italian food at a reasonable price. Large portions.

This is the most mouth watering Ny Pizza in the neighborhood. Delicious hot, cheesy, crusty and flavorful. A crowd pleaser pizza for sure.

Had a pizza lunch. They technically have table service, but it was too hectic during the lunch rush to notice. Once we sat down and started eating, all was well. Prices were appropriate.

You can order pizza by the slice, but they also have a full Italian menu as well. Prices range from $12-$20 a plate. The portion sizes are large. The spaghetti sauce tastes like Spaghetti-O's, but the lasagna was awesome.

As family of 3, tracked this place down the day we visited the Met Museum. This area of NY is generally really expensive for eating out, but DPs was both brilliant value and great food. You can queue and order pizza at the counter, grabbing a free seat if one is available after getting your order, but we sat down straight away and got table service. This gave us better choice of food as we got to see menu + the waitress was really friendly & attentive. 3 lunch combos latter (starter + main + loads of warm bread & butter) all of us were stuffed and had food left over. Including soft drinks bill was about 35 dollars before tips. Wow! Would love to go back sometime as Pizzas also looked really good.

Neighborhood Pizzeria that serves salads and dinners too. Pizza is always thin crusted and delicious . Prices are reasonable .

Wonderful pizza, cheese cake and mini sandwich. Amazing value. Put it on your list. Great find that we stumbled apon.

Good price and friendly employees. Had three different slizes and they were all so good. I think for a normal person one and a half slice is more then enough.

Happened upon this place by accident and was pleasantly surprised. The place is small, but the sandwiches were large and tasty, the staff friendly. Highly recommend.

On the blustery day we visited, we needed a palce to sit and grab a small meal before ending our visit to the city. A local recommended the pizzeria across the street, but there was no place to sit down. We ordered a thin crust margherita pizza -- delicious, and filling. The service was pretty good, and the cost as reasonable ... we'd go back!

Pizzas are ok. Pizzas are not NY style. It is intended to prepare in Italian style. It is not Italian quality, though.

Best slice I've had in NYC ...and the garlic knots are even better than the pizza.

Popped in for a slice of pizza. I had the Sicilian and dad had the thin crust. We both loved it. They had great selection and were quick with the service. The restaurant is small and casual, a great place for a quick bite or lunch but I wouldn't make it a nice meal out.

Good quality pizza, relatively inexpensive. We got the good value (for New York) pizza slices and were able to sit in even though we were just having those and water. I think at lunchtime or busy times you have to be buying a meal to sit in, not just coffee. Excellent pizza slices with good options for a dairy free (lactose intolerant) diet. All the food looked good, authentic Italian (in our experience of visiting a few regions of Italy) and the wine looked reasonable quality too. For an experience of New York Italian pizza this was a very good place to stumble upon after a visit to the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Ukrainian Institute.

Super casual and super delicious. If you are willing to walk a straight shot east after you go to the MET, this is worth the walk. Excellent pizza and garlic knots, served flavorful, cheesy and piping hot as it's supposed to be. Order at the counter and then sit in the tiny eating area in the back. Price is fantastic: 4 adults ate lunch with 2 beers and 2 sodas for $37. We ate at some much more expensive restaurants during our stay and all agreed this was one of the more enjoyable meals we had.

We went to Don Filippo after a long visit to Metropolitan Museum, and though we were late to eat, we had no problem. Slices of pizza are amazing and cheap, and we also ordered pasta, great too!

After getting out of MET at 9 pm were looking for something to eat, discovered this small Italian joint and glad we did. The pizzas were terrific as was the cannoli! Want to go back for more!

This was a fantastic meal. I had over three slices, though most I know can’t do anywhere near as much. If you can beat my record, try me. 🥶🚬

We tried Pica and Pasta. Both were very tasty. Many Italian customers were around which indicated authentic cuisine. Good value for price.

My husband and I rented an apartment in New York for ten days which was a short walking distance to Lexington Avenue. We tried a few different restaurants for our one lunch/dinner meal each day, and then we discovered Don Filippo's. As soon as we walked in the door we felt welcome. We chose to sit in a booth which was very comfortable, and our delightful waitress took our drink orders and gave us menus straight away. It was hard to pick what we wanted to order as there was a lot to choose from, but we both opted for "Phil's Favourite" pasta. Great choice - a large serve of penne pasta absolutely loaded with shrimp, grilled chicken and broccoli in a creamy garlic sauce. Our meals also came with nice crisp salads and a basket of freshly baked bread...for only $16.95. We had planned on having dessert to follow, but there was no way we could possibly fit it in. Our experience at Don Filippo's was so memorable that we decided to go there again the following night...and the night after that (our last night in New York). On our second night I ordered the lobster ravioli with scallops in a garlic alfredo sauce. I can honestly say that I have never in my whole life had a more delicious meal. It was superb! And so on our last night in New York I ordered the same thing again, as did my husband, and I enjoyed it just as much. To make our last night even more special, we had the privilege of being able to meet Don Filippo. It was so wonderful being able to hear about the long family history of this restaurant and his passion for making sure that everyone who eats here (or opts to take away) has an excellent dining experience. He has certainly succeeded.

While walking down Lexington Ave. my son stopped us and said this place smells great. So we stopped inside, took one look at the pizza at the counter and were sold. We took a table in the back along with a few others. I had a square of the thin pepperoni which was crispy with a few slices of fresh mozzarella on top with some pepperoni - I could've eaten about 5 of them. Instead I tried a square of the old Sicilian style with some crumbled meatballs on top and it was even better. Judging by the meatballs - I'd love to come back for some pasta. My sons tried the huge slices of the white pizza and they loved them. Highly recommend this place if you are close - the staff was extremely friendly and helpful.

Just what I wanted! Pizza paradise! Fresh out of the oven! Very friendly atmosphere! Had pepperoni, almost ate the plate it came on! Will def come back here!

Authentic, easy, super casual. Pizza right out of the oven. Tons of options for toppings and sides. Love the drinks right out of the fridge. Would come here again and again.

We visited Don Filippo's while searching for something more affordable than the overcrowded restaurants in the Metropolitan Museum. I saw them making fresh pizzas through the window and decided to give it a try. They have a wide variety from which to choose plus other food as well. I had a slice of chicken basil pizza and one of the two olive pizza. I was raving about both of them!
Awesome pizza
Small little pizza joint near the MET. We finished a tour and then looked on trip advisor and wanted to try it out. We’re from TN and can’t get pizza like this anywhere down south. 3 of us split the small white pizza and still left a slice. Their pizza by the slice was $3.50 and huge!! Other party with us got the garlic knots and loved it. They got the cannolis too! Loved how they had garlic powder and fresh Parmesan at the the table too!
