Very good food and good experience

By happytrails555 |

The place is very small, and they have a limited menu. Very good pizza selection, but we were looking for a little more. I had the chicken paillard; my friend the veal with mushrooms. I did ask that the chicken be cooked a little more, and it was very good. The radiccio was fresh and peppery and was very good with the chicken. The tiramisu was great and the cappuccino was huge. I'd go back. Ludo the waiter was friendly and efficient.

Eating Well Italian in NY

By Enrico D |

Small but very cozy place, hearty typical Italian dishes Fantastic evening after days of American food I recommend it!!!

authentic Neapolitan restaurant

By GIULIA |

Donna Margherita is an authentic Neapolitan restaurant that truly captures the essence of Italian cuisine. I had the linguine with lobster, and it was nothing short of perfection—fresh, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. To finish, I tried the ricotta and pear dessert, which was absolutely divine. Every bite transported me straight to Naples! The warm and welcoming atmosphere made the experience even more special. I highly recommend this restaurant for anyone looking to savor true Italian flavors.

Indeed a hidden gem!

Well, thanks fellow Yelpers!!! Came to this place as I read most comments. It is as stated! Stefano was on point! Actually thought it was going yo be one of those places where the owner / chef / manager was arrogant and on top of the world…. Many in NYC! Well glad I was wrong. VERY accommodating and amicable and tried to please in every way…. Knowledge of the food and passion which captivated me more… talking about simple tomatoes from Italy and you could already feel you were at the right place! Come here period! We landed and came to grab a bite and of course this was not enough…. Will come again this weekend to have a formal dinner…. Ok now off with the “formalities” towards Stefano…. On with the food snd service… Food… had the Cesar salad that was very good and refreshing… hints of lemon that were on point as well as the anchovies. For me, needed some whole anchovies on top to give that extra “mile” kick and flavor. But anyways very good. Then we had pero his recommendation the pizza with Vesuvio tomatoes and Burrata…. This was very very good… I personally like “thick” pizzas but this one being thin had an outer thick crust that made for it! Flavor and balance! Very good. O decided to go with a glass of wine which they opened the bottle for us. Nice… I would recommend to BYOB (bring your own bottle) corkage is 15$ which is very reasonable….. glasses, well you know me, I would bring them as well… these need some work here. I would take 1/2 of a star for that but decided to grant it as service was over the top. Tiramisu was good but TOO fresh…. Needed that extra day in the fridge to settle down and it would have been better….. all in all, come and I will revisit!!!!! Cheers

Yummy Italian dinner

This is a small restaurant with excellent Italian food, including daily specials such as risotto. The gnochi bolognese was excellent. The bread pudding suited me fine.

Zero respect

Unfortunately my experience with this place was terrible right from the moment of booking, a restaurant that claims to be Italian SHOULD ALSO TAKE CARE OF RESERVATIONS, but on the phone they didn't understand. They booked us for the first time on Christmas Day, and when we arrived it was closed. You can only imagine what I felt, We then managed to go on the 27th. But unfortunately for me it only has the nomem in Italian

Super kitchen!!!

Magnificent place, where you eat really well. You feel at home, we were here a few weeks ago for lunch we had meatballs with gravy that reminded me of those of grandmother, all super quality and with super friendly and professional staff

A magical Neapolitan dinner in New York

By Tiziana C |

WELCOME TO THE SOUTH .... this makes me think arrived at the restaurant DONNA MARGHERITA in NEW YORK. Family welcome , magical place, which allows you to take a blast from the past when grandmother cooked the best and most traditional dishes of Neapolitan cuisine. The most surprising thing is that the owners always have a smile on their lips and work with passion!

Naples or New York?

As a Margherita woman, feeling in Naples is easy, the flavours, the air, the hospitality are the calling card of two great restaurateurs ENZO and SALVATORE...this evening you were great...but very great!

Best HIDDEN Italian Restaurant NYC

By kristinakovalevich13 |

Hands down, one of the BEST Italian restaurants you must visit in New York City. I have been to New York multiple times, but this spot, which looks like a hole in the wall, is beyond amazing. I've been to Positano, Lake Como and Rome, Italy, and dining here has taken me back there. The staff is incredibly kind, at your service and will go the extra mile. Upon walking in, you feel at home. It is cozy, inviting and intimate. You'll see romantic couples, elderly best friends, business man and families dining. It is very inclusive and an experience. The service and care the waiters have is impeccable. There is not a single item you won't like off the menu. What I appreciated is meeting the owners, one whose name is Enzo. The chef takes time to prepare your dish. When they say, made with love, you can feel it here. I'm not an octopus lover but have had my share. This spot has by far the best octopus. Every special on the menu for the day took me somewhere else. The papardelle with ribs was mouth melting. They prepare the ribs for 7 hours. The branzino fish was exactly how I like my branzino. The red wine served was created by the family who owns First Formula. Definitely try their antipasto appetizer full of imported cheeses and cold cuts. Our entire table enjoyed absolutely everything. From the Bruschetta to the shrimp fettuccine to the sangria drinks to the bread pudding and chocolate cake, every bite transported you to Europe. This is the spot I'd visit over and over again. It's authentic, lovely and a taste of Italy in America. Can't wait to be back.

small hidden cafe for about 25 people. Nice and intimate

good visit; fine good. Should have a bigger wine choice since "wine" is in the title. Otherwise, I'd return with friends.

The best in the world 🔝🔝🔝

As a Neapolitan I can only express my super positive opinion towards Donna Margherita Restaurant!!! It is the perfect place for those who want to eat really well. Dishes prepared with high quality food and with the skill of those who have a lot of experience behind them. I am speaking clearly of Enzo and Salvatore, people who with their kindness and their great humility welcome you making you feel at home. My husband goes crazy for pasta alla genovese omg it's very delicious!!😄I instead had the pleasure of enjoying a soup (pasta in broth cooked with meat and chicken). What about it was wonderful, a special flavor, almost unique I would say. Especially if consumed on a cold evening like yesterday☃️😉 I am really honored to have been able to taste and appreciate once again your amazing cuisine, you are great!!!! Thanks Enzo and Salvatore 💋

Incredible, authentic Italian food!!

By Amanda S |

INCREDIBLE!! Truly a hidden gem in this huge city. Sal was incredible, and brought us our pizza himself! This is the most authentic Italian pizza I’ve had outside of Italy itself. The bread was incredible. The restaurant was clean, the staff was truly amazing, and the food was out of this world. I highly recommend this place! There’s a strong chance I’ll go back tomorrow!!

Beautiful place

Dinner no big deal

By Sara S |

Have a nice dinner. Nothing that exciting. Good pizza, pasta mo. I took linguine with clams tasted only like wine and I found several times pieces of broken clams in the pasta.

If I return to New York I will stay here again. True Italian flavors

An Italian corner in New York between Second Avenue and 66th. I met Chef Salvatore who was truly Neapolitan. I ate very well, all food made in Italy. Calamarata with clams and courgettes, a delicacy, a focaccia with escarole, olives and a glass of Vermentino.

OVER THE TOP

Donna Margherita, Italian Restaurant in 1304 2nd Avenue in New York, is The Best One In The City: my auntie and me ate fabulously, so very Excellent, we think that you can't go away before you eat EVERY DAY IN THIS EATLY PARADISE. Enzo, the owner, and also Salvatore are very friendly, they always become really your relatives and always advice you ONLY THE BEST. What can I say? You know Eden? So, it's really NYC EATLY EDEN. 5 STARS AND OVER PLUS. OVER THE TOP. SO HIGH. THE BEST EAT-TASTE EXPERIENCES FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD.

A must to try in NYC if you love real Italian cuisine.

Saturday June 13th was my first time at Donna Margherita NYC. My good friend Mario brought me there since the owners are really good friends of him; The first thing that i noticed when i arrived was the hospitality of Salvatore (the chef) and Enzo (his partner), wow, the made me feel in Napoli, where i was born and raised, these two guys are amazing with them energies and positive vibes. The quality and authenticity of the food was out of this world, the flavors of the food reminded me my mamma & nonna's kitchen.. As appetizers to share we had an imported burrata from italy with salame, an homemade eggplant parmigiana with anchovies, a deep fried ricotta & mozzarella and the shishito peppers with cherry tomato. As main dish i was tented to try the homemade lasagna who looked delicious but i decided to order the Ziti pasta with cherry tomato from Vesuvio...WOW..how simply and tasty it was, i felt the love that they put in to cook it, perfecty al dente, MAMMA MIA. To finish, Enzo served 3 homemade desserts who were all delicious, caffe and amaro del capo, my favorite. Guys thank you for everything, DONNA MARGHERITA will be my new "must go spot" each time i visit back Nyc. DOMENICO O.

Great food/ service/ambiance

By dedon4 |

We had a great meal and experience Great waitstaff- and we were personally welcomed and engaged by the owner - Salvatore !! What a treat You can dine “Al fresco “ or inside at comfortable tables. We started with the funghi (mushroom) pizza - fresh , hot and thin on the bottom but ample edge crust. Great flavors (it had prosciutto) - yum ! The on to the fish stew - it had a full filet of fish on top, calamari, octopus, clams, fresh red base - delicious and clearly made fresh - I especially appreciate the lack of institutional over sodium red sauce fresh tomato take it to another level !! Then the pièce de resistance !! Salvatore made a ricotta and pear dessert “cake” (not a flour cake) that was light but delicious A real crown jewel to this awesome meal Home tasting cooked food with homemade dessert!! Heartily recommend !

SCENT OF HOME

By Giovanni D |

Words would never be enough to describe what we ate and how we were treated by the owners and staff. I smell like home, you feel like you're in Italy, in Naples to be precise. Bring the flavor of 'grandmother's cooking'. The quality of the food is truly the best we tasted in 10 days in New York. The pizza was one of the best I've ever eaten, including in Naples, the parmigiana and the meatballs with sauce were nothing short of delicious. The desserts, strictly homemade, were truly delicious. I repeat that the owners made us feel at ease and entertained us, making us feel at ease like never before. ABSOLUTELY MUST TRY!!

Superlative

By Jessica1490 |

We are a group of 7 NEAPOLITAN friends, we ate in this magnificent restaurant, what can I say we found the true flavors of grandmother (typical Neapolitan cuisine). We ate meatballs with ragù, spaghetti with piennolo, a platter of cured meats and cheeses and to finish off his Majesty "the hot pastry" and then finally a real Neapolitan coffee. The owners Enzo and Salvatore are 2 truly top people. If you go to New York you can't miss them. Trust the word of a true Neapolitan DOC.

10 out of 10 🤌🏽

By Serena |

I went to New York to celebrate my birthday and as a true Neapolitan I couldn't miss this place. I ate so many things and I can assure you that I felt like I was in Napoli. Impeccable service, everyone was always smiling and welcoming, Salvatore and Enzo are loving owners and made me feel at ease right away. Everything was perfect and of excellent quality, both the first courses, the pizza and the fried food. In short, if you are in NY you can't miss this gem of a restaurant. Definitely worth the visit!!!

Fabulous Authentic Italian Food

We have been there twice with my family. Both times were amazing. The food is fresh and has such flavor. The staff is great and the owner chef Salvator is one of the nicest and talented chefs in New York. You have to go here.

Exceptional

An unforgettable experience! In this American restaurant, we were able to taste the true flavors of Naples. Salvatore, the owner, greeted us with an extraordinary kindness and a smile that made us feel immediately at home. Its goodness is truly unique and is reflected in every dish they serve. The food is absolutely delicious, authentic and prepared with passion, just like real Neapolitans would do. Each bite is a journey into traditional Italian flavors, with fresh and genuine ingredients. A corner of Naples that I highly recommend to anyone who wants to savor true Italian cuisine.

A corner of Naples in the heart of New York

By boi1301 |

Eating in this place was an exciting journey, not only in flavors but also in the heart. Upon entering, we immediately felt welcomed, as if we were at the home of a dear friend. Salvatore, a true host, is much more than a chef: he is an ambassador of authentic Neapolitan cuisine. Every dish tells a story, every bite is an explosion of taste that takes you back to the streets of Naples, between familiar scents and unforgettable flavors. His passion is felt in every detail, from the choice of ingredients to the presentation of dishes, up to the warmth with which he tells you the traditions that lie behind each recipe. It is not just food: it is an experience. You sit down, close your eyes and, for a moment, forget you're in New York. You seem to feel Vesuvius on the horizon and the scent of the sea. Thank you, Salvatore, for giving us a piece of Naples so far from home. We will definitely return, with the desire to relive this unique magic. From sum it's all ☺️

Lunch 🥙

By Maria V |

We stayed at Salvo that greet so much Margherita woman in New York recommended by friends cozy restaurant and exquisite dishes defined at the top excellent dishes 🤗

Very underwhelming. Restaurant very Hot.

By HonestOpinion19 |

With the many Italian restaurants in NYC this one is super below average. The beets in the salad tasted like they were canned. Other salads were basic and small. Chicken was fatty and had weird consistency. AND the temperature in the restaurant had to be at least 80 degrees. Probably from the pizza oven. The wine, which is left on the counter, is also served at that temperature. Fail for us. Will not return.

DOC Italian food!!!

By Maria Riccio |

I went to this restaurant during my stay in NY and I ate divinely, I felt at home 🇮🇹 The meatballs are amazing!!! The Genoese and the ragù are delicious. Kindness and courtesy of the staff. I recommend it to all those who love quality food like me!!!

It is really overestimated

By Vincenzo A |

As Italians we can tell you that food was average at best and absolutely not worth the high prices — very poor quality/price ratio. $40 for a simple piatto di pasta is really too much. Also the service was not so good. They accepted our reservation at 8:15 PM but close at 9:00; by 8:45 they were already putting tables inside, stacking chairs, and even taking our dishes and glasses while we were still eating and chatting. This is not how you treat paying customers. We will not return and do not recommend this place.

Wonderful experience

By annarusso |

We arrived at Donna Margherita thanks to social media , arrived there we were greeted by the kindness and warmth of one of the owners Salvatore, a great host but above all an exceptional chef. Being a woman Margherita is like being home, genuine flavors, the real cuisine of mom. We could not help but return the next evening where we enjoyed other exceptional dishes, it spent carefree moments as if we were family with Salvatore and his partner Enzo. One of the best memories of this trip will surely be your restaurant Salvatore Ida Claudia and Chiara

Friendly place and delicious food!

“Being Neapolitan, I must say that this restaurant made me feel really at home. The welcoming atmosphere and warmth of the staff create a unique family atmosphere, perfect for enjoying authentic flavors. The dishes are prepared with great care and fresh ingredients, bringing me back to the flavors of my land. Pizza, with its soft dough and light cornice, is a true work of art. Even the pasta is impeccable, like homemade. Every bite is a trip to Italy, and if you’re looking for an authentic Italian experience in New York, this is the place.”

Dona with one n, and not so good

By James M |

We had a quiet dinner for three, but the food was mediocre at best. Maybe it was too early (around 5) on a Saturday. The fish, Chilean Sea Bass, was the best of the dishes we had. The pastas were all pretty bad. One of the porcini mushroom ravioli pockets had nothing in it, just an empty pasta, and the sauce was weak and almost just a stain on the raviolis. The waitress brought us sparkling water we did not order, and we did not have any trouble with that. It was the food that was the killer.

The top of Italian cuisine
