Visited here on last day in NYC, as stated elsewhere cash only restaurant, though they have an ATM. Staff are friendly, and atmosphere typical american diner. I had the Pancakes with strawberries and banana which was huge, couldn't finish it, but it tasted awesome especially covered in syrup! My wife had poached eggs, sausage, rye bread and fried potatoes- which she loved. Overall value was okay $11 for food, food was great and best breakfast I had in New York- would recommend.

Nothing fancy here but good, solid food. Big portions, fast service and an old time vibe. Soups and salads are particularly good and clearly home made. Breakfast is good as well and although I don't eat them, the pancakes look awesome. Be prepared to pay cash as credit cards are a no no here. Definitely worth a visit!

Huge portions of conventional NYC food. A people watching wonderland. Great service.... No need to eat for the rest of the day/week/month. Go for the experience.

Bottom line it comes down to either ordering from your corner Greek diner and dealing with an irritable, nasty, disinterested old guy that you can barely understand and paying, to boot, 50% more than even remotely deserved.....or Ordering from these guys and always, and I mean always throughout the years, dealing with an enthusiastic, youthful, engaging, helpful voice(that you can understand) and then receiving amazing food like it's supposed to be..and costing less than your corner Greek diner. It's your choice.......................................

We had a delicious breakfast here on a chilly November morning and enjoyed every part of it. The old diner feel, the warm and welcoming staff and the food which was some of the best pancakes and French toast we have tried. This was well worth the trip from Brooklyn to try and we will come back again on our next visit to NY. Tip: if you order the pancakes or French toast pay the money to get the good quality maple syrup. Worth every cent!

We recently had the pleasure of eating brunch at EJ's on the corner of East 73rd St and 3rd Ave.in NYC. Ecah time the place/restaurant was extremely busy (which its a great sign), but each time they sat us in a very timely manner. The service is quick, and the food is 1st class. Both time we had breakfast type of food. I had egg whites, with potatoes and rye toast, and my wife had a BLT, that she loved. My friends had food that they totally enjoyed. For a great experience pin the upper est side of NYC, any time of day, EJ's is highly recommended on every keel.

We’ve dined here twice outside in the past week and found the food good and the service efficient. It’s diner food, but slightly more upscale and more varied than some places. You can order all the eggs and bacon you like, plus pancakes and sandwiches galore. But they also have dinner specials like theThai chili chicken salad my spouse ordered and the Greek chicken salad with greens, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, feta, and olives. His salad came with a choice of soup, and the chicken tortilla was a sizable bowl. It was very good and the tortilla pieces were not soggy! On our first visit, we enjoyed Caesar salads with grilled chicken. Portions are large to huge so you won’t leave hungry!

Good launchenette, quite American style both in the menu and in the furnishings Sufficient quality food, generous portions. Overall sufficient but nothing extraordinary Unclean glasses of water Helpful staff

We were looking for a diner lunch after visiting the Met Museum. EJ's popped up on my trip advisor search and it fit the bill perfectly. We both had delicious omelettes with sweet potato fries and multigrain toast.

We went on a recommendation, never again. The service was lacking any amount of quality and the food was just as unfortunate. The coffee isn't anything to write home about either.

We went here after a visit to Central Park and the Met Museum, and we had a great experience. Our server was friendly and the food came out quick. I would recommend the chocolate milkshake and mac & cheese!

I've been eating here for years since i live on the upper East Side of Manhattan. But like everything in life if you don't take care of things you begin to see a decline. Thats exactly whats happened to this establishment. The place is dirty and can use a facelift , the bathrooms are dirty and not properly maintained so i'm gonna take me hunger elsewhere and suggest you do the same

Large menu. Great specials. Had a thanksgiving dinner. Lots of food. Good staff. Wife had great steak dinner. Prices are great. Portions are good. Will go back again.

A Classic New York Diner, we had a great New York brunch. Fresh tasty juice that was straight from the tree! Service was friendly, polite and very quick. Great to have the free coffee refills which considering how good the coffee is was a great bonus. Worth the trip up to 73rd and 3rd, so make it one you don't miss.

We went to EJ's for brunch and really enjoyed the food there. The portions are well sized and it's not expensive either so you don't get too spend too much and eat well.

What I expected from a high calorie American breakfast. I had waffles with choc chips and bacon.. I really enjoyed it and kept me full till dinner!! Also had a strawberry milkshake with real strawberrys in which was lovely and you got loads of it!!

We were taken to EJ´s by some friends living in the neighborhood. Walking 20 minutes, passing several other restaurants and cafés, makes you have some expectations to the place. The restaurant it self is not very special: A lot of guests and a lot of staff in a small place. But in some way it felt really "right". We ate here twice, both times walking "the extra mile" to get here. And it was absolutely worth it. The food is great. No fuzz, nothing strange: Omelets, toasts, burgers and so on. But still something extra. And it felt like a place you would make your regular place if we had lived in the area. We will walk the extra mile to come here next time in NY too.

Nothing special at this UES diner with a shorter than average menu, average food, average atmosphere, and, sadly, well below average restrooms. Forget your credit card, EJ's only takes cash.

Our Italian friends wanted a local diner experience so we found EJ's through online reviews. Our party of 10 got a table for breakfast right away (Wed morning) and very polite service. The portions are really generous and everything from the flapjacks to the omelettes were delicious. Of course, have milkshakes for breakfast! You can also order from the entire menu for breakfast. The Cobb Salad was very good- very generous portions!

Good menu. Very friendly staff. Had a good brunch. French toast. Bacon and drink. Prices are not cheap but food and service were good. We ordered dinner from them tonight. Hamburgers were really good and nice size. Side dishes were very good. Again costs were not inexpensive. Their breakfast menu is large with many different choices. Fast delivery if needed.

EJ's is great. The clientele is a true cross section of life in the UES 70's, young and old. The food is reasonably good (the shakes are great) service is fast and they now accept credit cards after being a cash only spot forever. Sunday morning brunch you can expect a line out the door. We go there for breakfast at dinner time and never venture into the more sophisticated places on the menu. We treat EJ's like a Denny's with a NY twist. The interior was remodeled two years ago and is alsways clean with solid seating throughout.

Following a recent trip to NYC, my partner and I had pre planned all of our meals, however we came across EJ's in the top ten in New York guide book, and i'm so glad we did. Eating with the locals, it was amazing, I had scrambled eggs with sausage and toast, the coffee was plentiful, and the service was wonderful. We visited twice during our stay, we thought is was that good.

Classic NYC diner, we stopped in for a late snack around 2215. They were preparing to close but service was good, food was simple and well prepared. Classic NY diner atmosphere - enjoyed it.

The penultimate diner. Don't be put off by the wait: it moves really quickly to get in. The pancakes are massive, and the strawberries and bananas are insanely fresh. Juices are all fresh squeezed and yummy, a perfect combo w smooth coffee. Plenty of eggs options and lunch choices, all of which arrive w great efficiency. Its crowded but its all strangely comfortable and perfectly NYC The Upper East locale is also perfect for post-eat walking and shopping. A must go for any visitor, and yet still draws tons of locals: speaks volumes

Took grandson to dinner. He had 4 different meals. Main course special of lemon chicken he loved. Also order of fresh bacon. Garlic bread. Vanilla shake. Finished all. Wife had really good extra large pancakes. I had eggs and sausage. Staff very friendly and kept checking on us. Prices are not cheap but also not high. Food served hot. Will go back again.

I stopped by here a few days ago while visiting a patient in Lenox Hill Hospital. I was wondering around Third Avenue looking for a light night meal. The first thing you notice when you enter the luncheonette is that it looks like a diner from the 1950s/1960s. The tables and furniture are from a bygone era. The second thing you notice are small booths. I was not terribly hungry at the time but ordered a quesadilla which was tasty, but not extraordinary in quality. The waiter was friendly, but too my surprise told me that I had to pay him directly. There was no cashier up front that I could see at the time. This was a little offputting because he was not terribly polite in explaining to me why he had to be paid directly. Was this form a payment from another era. I did not know, and he did not explain this properly. Would I go back there, well that's up in the air?

We had lunch here in July 2015. It's a small place but the menu has a nice variety. It's a really nice and out of the way place. We were there for lunch. My wife and I had Grilled Cheeses and our kids had breakfast foods. We all had shakes. The food and shakes were really tasty. The service was also excellent. This is in NYC so it's pricey. Overall, I would highly recommend eating here, as we surely will again in the future.

We enjoy this place often. The food is good. The manger is polite and we are always happy to return. Tonight we had a waiter named Hyman, and he was horrible. He walked away while I was talking to him. He reached right over to me. He never returned to be table to see how we were doing. When my husband joined us he came back greeted my husband politely and then walked away. We will return to EJ since frequent this restaurant but if Hyman walks my way I will ask for another waiter

This is the best brunch place on the Upper East Side by far! Get there before noon so you don't have to wait too long. Eggs, bagels, pancakes, crunch french toast, burgers, it's all good. Service is usually fast but sometimes a little slower when it's busy. It's OK, because the atmosphere is relaxed, loud and fun. Have brunch at EJ's!

A tremendous diner which has so much atmosphere. The place buzzes all the time even while having breakfast this morning. The food is very generous and well prepared. The staff were friendly every time we visited which was quite a bit.😀😀 Thanks for making our stay even more enjoyable.

Went here as a quick stop for some lunch and were very disappointed. Not only were the burgers dry and tasteless but you had to pay extra for fries - 15 bucks for a burger at a self proclaimed 'diner'? Secondly no where when entering the diner or on the wall does it state that it is a cash only restuarant, so when we went to pay we got a huge surprise and were told we could use there 2.50 per withdrawal ATM in the basement! They are just taking money from customers while providing bad service, overcrowded seating area and overpriced food. Avoid.

While this place is a but pricey, the food was absolutely delicious, and they make awesome grits. I don't mind paying a bit more for good food, I'll be back. Kitchen is out in open so you can watch them cook.

Stopped in here because I needed a quick meal, but I wish I had gone somewhere else. It wasn't horrible by any means, but the food was quite salty and it was nothing special. There were better places around that I could have tried out.

There is a stall outside this restaurant reserved for baby strollers! Very kid friendly, a bit noisy but allows parents and family to eat their meal without the stress of constantly shushing your children! The food was very good, the service equally good and the booths/tables very spacious and comfortable. I would told that this restaurant does not take credit cards, according to the adult we visited, but I paid in cash just in case.

Hubby loves diners and I saw that the reviews here were very good. We weren't disappointed. Service was attentive which seems so rare these days in NYC. Hubby got a BTL and fries; I got a chopped granny apple salad; son got mac and cheese. Everything was perfect. My salad was huge and the flavors were awesome. I kept snatching hubby's fries as they were great, too. We all ate a bit of my son's mac and cheese because it was so flavorful. Refills on iced tea were free. Again, the service was great--cannot stress that enough. I wish I had room for dessert as I bet they are wonderful, too!

EJ used to be the best dinner in the neighborhood- no longer. The salads and burgers are no more than mediocre. Wilted salad saturated in dressing, meat that is far from tasty, over cooked and greasy fries... When you have a place like JGMelon one block away who serves far superior burgers and home fries, one would think EJ would make an effort. Nothing worth mentioning. I used to eat at EJ at least twice a week- for its pancakes/waffles. Salads, burgers- no more. It's just not good. Definitely pass.

I had lunch at EJ's Luncheonette last week, rancheros huevos, done very well with fresh ingredients. Service was prompt and friendly, and the place has a strong local following. I wonder a bit about cleanliness based on the unisex toilets, hence three stars. And, mind the stairs!

Had been more than satisfied with the place on a number of occasions. I returned for the 3rd time in a week as I had mostly been happy previously. This is where it all went wrong for Ej's. After a sub standard cheeseburger with a beef patty as thick as a loaf of bread and fries that resembled soggy cigarette butts, we were pursued and hunted down like a poor wounded antelope before being bullied and harassed by not only our personal waiter, but also the manager (debt collector) for a gratuity. I know that a tip is customary and we were simply yet to extend our thanks monetarily. We were harassed a number of times for a tip and I did not want to leave this seedy diner any sooner. These are the little customer moments that businesses have to get right. EJ's simply did not! Because of this I will never return and never think of recommending it to another. End. ~ Manhattan Critic

And there's reasons for why that's my hangout spot. They have an amazing selection of milkshakes, the staff are friendly and you also gotta try the macaroni and cheese! Note that the mac and cheese is more of an appetizer than a main meal.Highly recommended.

EJ's is one of my favorite hotspots in New York! Delicious and fresh food served hot and with a smile. On this visit I had soup and half sandwich. The club turkey was fresh and bread was delicious whole-grain. Vegetables on the sandwich were whole leaf lettuce and sliced tomatoes. The chicken noodle soup - bowl was something make in your own home… Truly like something that your mom would make. Served with cole slaw and a pickle spear. Can't wait to go back for breakfast!

Great spot a few blocks from Lenox Hill hospital to grab something to eat. Came here for an early breakfast and the food and coffee was great. Staff was friendly and fast. Left leaving satisfied. They give ALOT of food.

Not at all consistent. Too many managers and very little service. I go in about three times a month. I like their buttermilk fried chicken sandwich. It is never the same anytime you order it. I ordered it today and it came without the cheese. I told the waitress she apologized. It certainly wasn’t her fault. She took it back and they melted some mozzarella cheese on it. The cheese is supposed to be pepper jack. They do nothing for you no matter how many things they get wrong on your order. It is extremely noisy! You cannot hear yourself think. When I go with other people speaking with one another is an impossibility. I have been trying to call them on the phone for about 15 minutes. It rings. You get a machine. Someone picks up and then hangs up. Very, very, very disappointing.

We are fans of good New York City diners. This is one of the best we have found. The food is great - the menu is extensive - and the specials are more creative than you might expect. It's also really clean and welcoming. The staff are particularly good, and the service in our experience is excellent. The EJ motto on their staff shirts is "Come for Breakfast and Stay for Dinner." That about sums it up.

Fantastic gorgeous American breakfast. Quick and nice service but without putting pressure to leave; something very welcome and rare in these kind of restaurants. Waffles very delicious. Omelette very tasty and rich and the bagel sumptuous. Coffee was good and the atmosphere overall nice and friendly. It is a good place to have your American breakfast in New York. Try it.

My family and I wanted to try EJ’s because we read some good reviews and we love diners. We had some bacon cheeseburgers and California ranch wraps and both were not worth what we paid for. The burgers tasted like egg grease and the wraps were ok. Service was friendly but only come back to check if we were ready for the check. We wouldn’t recommend it!

We love the large portions and delicious breakfast at EJ's! This meal can keep you going for a whole day!

Went in to Ej’s just before the lunch rush. My daughter and I grabbed to seats at the counter. Our waiter at the counter was great. Friendly, attentive. Constantly making sure we had filled water glass, soda glass, napkins or anything else we might have needed. I had a chicken Ruben with fries. Never had a chicken Ruben before. Always a corned beef Ruben. Really enjoyed it. Would definitely return. Looking forward to trying some of their breakfast dishes.

This iconic Upper East Side diner was open until 4 o'clock in the afternoon on Thanksgiving Day and the place was jammed at noon. Many servers, everyone very pleasant and very helpful. Everything is in plain sight from the main dining room; the side dining room on the street side was a bit more quiet. My Ranchos huevos had perfectly prepared poached eggs but had two unusual attributes. There was a thin spaghetti mixed in with the other ingredients, and the entire dish was smothered with a tomato soup type covering. The restrooms are on a lower floor reached by a very narrow staircase but were very clean.

We walked up here for breakfast on our way to Central Park and ordered the obligatory pancakes (not listed on the menu as pancakes tho BTW!). We were seated on our own in a little conservatory section off to the side even though there was space in the main restaurant which was a bit busier and had more atmosphere with locals etc. We were served and then had to wait a while for someone to come back around for the check. The food was good, but certainly not the best I've ever had in NYC.

Aside from the fries, just not good food. Avocado always rock hard, challah bread awful, fresh fruit is a day old. Good for kids and pancakes.

One of my favorites places for brunchs. I really enjoy this coffe for a break and let time goes by reading a book with my cup and time to choose what to eat.

EJ's is the best authentic diner in New York. Great relaxed atmosphere and the best pancakes I've ever tasted. Go and visit.

The waiter was hard of hearing, however, the bloody Mary was superb, and the Benedict perfect. Tables are small, good buzz, a great neighborhood joint.

Fourth time in NYC visiting friends and every time EJ´s become our most visited place even though there are closer places to our hotel. And again we were not disappointed. We will be regular guest even next time in New York. Their flap jacks with, strawberries, banana and blueberry jam is great. And their french toast! Friendly service. Love the laid back ambience and seeing the locals. We seem to be the only tourists - but when in NYC we become locals at EJ´s.

Hopefully, EJ’s will continue to thrive. True diners have been disappearing left and right. Three of us went for dinner @ 7pm on a Monday. We were quickly seated in a comfy booth. We ordered three different styles of salad and one knish. The salads were the usual big portions and were served as we requested sans certain ingredients. The knish wasn’t anything special but it satisfied the craving. We were allowed to sit and talk well past the completion of our meal which was a pleasant surprise.

Another SIC hotspot, but the brakfast and milkshakes are amazingly good. Waffles are great and I think a good value for money.

Great diner food and menu, everyone was pleased with their meal....great value for the location.... try the chicken reuben....

My favorite Classic Egg Benedict ! Also the salmon one are a must try The pancakes are really good I suggest the banana pecan one!! Enjoy!!

Excellent breakfast with a great range of choices. I had the fabulous French toast and my wife loved her multigrain pancakes with blueberry compote. This was a great diner with nice décor and a very pleasant atmosphere - a great spot on the upper East side. The coffee kept coming and the service was extremely attentive and very friendly. I just wish this was in my neighbourhood!

We like EJ's for tried the trued and true menu - burgers, pancakes, and sandwiches in a cozy diner environment. Nothing nouveau about it - something for everyone.

We stopped into this cute diner after visiting The Met and needing to duck out of the rain and get a bite to eat. I was starving and my wrap was delicious. The food was great and the prices were fair. Would definitely eat again.

My partner and I were excited to eat here for breakfast on the recommendation from Eyewitness Travel. However, the food was very sub standard. In particularly was the over cooked, limp and barely warm potatoes. When we noticed these were from a large pile lumped in the back corner of the fry pan, we weren't so surprised. In fact, not a lot of the food seemed made to order, but just reheated. Service was barely satisfactory with most waiters standing around chatting. Not impressed.

We wanted to have a good burger in the area, and we had heard EJ is the place: we were not disappointed. EJ is more of a diner than a coffee shop, a bit more refined and with a nice menu with many choices. The cheeseburgers we ordered were tasteful and perfectly cooked, the desserts looked interesting but we were full, the service was friendly and efficient, the place was quite full on a Thursday evening (good sign), they had a decent selection of beers. For two burgers and two beers the bill was $46, a little high and in line with a notch higher level than the standard neighbourhood coffee shop. We will go back to check the rest of the menu.

EJ's is a good basic diner. The air is slightly greasy depending on what they are cooking up, The decor is good diner feeling decor, and the food is diner food. Great milkshakes served in tall glass plus they bring you the metal tumbler as well. If you are looking for gourmet food, this is not it. It is a DINER. Staff is very friendly and accommodating. You just have to tell them things like if you want your apple pie not stone cold from the fridge, you just have to tell them to please take it back and warm it up. Quite a few locals eating at EJ's. Always comfortable, and welcoming, servers don't rush you. Not terribly cheap, but a good all around diner. Warning: The bathroom is in the basement down a steep flight of stairs. If you have trouble with stairs, go before you eat here!

One of our favorite omelette places in the city but not so fun to dine there. We typically order food in and it comes fast and is usually the right order. Eggs are fluffy and well prepared.

Very crowded on the weekends but on a rainy night I decided to try one of their mid-week Blue Plate Specials - the Thanksgiving Turkey Dinner. Very good deal with 2 sides and a salad which ends up being a lot of food. Too stuffed for dessert, but lots of nice choices. Staff was very nice and attentive. Next time I think I'll try more of the breakfast/brunch type foods - just not on a weekend day.

This classic greasy spoon dinner in the heart of this up-scale neighborhood manages to feed the locals from the schoolkids to the ladies-who-lunch. The food is pretty good-- the specials should be considered-- and the basic breakfast and burger staples are consistently comfortable.

Friendly place to go eat, local diner with great choice. Staff really helpful and we had questions on what things were on a menu and they brought out other options for menu just incase we didn’t like what we had ordered ( we did, was delicious!) it was proper American homemade food, servings are good size and the staff couldn’t do enough for you. Enjoyed our first visit so much we went back two days later. Wish we had visited for the breakfasts, but gives an excuse to go again. An amazing American dining experience!

If you like huge portions, a noisy atmosphere and busy service then this is the place for you. If you care for slightly more finesse in your food, then perhaps you would be better off somewhere else. It's fine for a quick lunch and a lot better than other diners we visited but I don't think we would seek it out again. The toilets need a bit of attention!

A staple in the upper east side. Good consistency diner. Nothing fancy. Egg white Frittata with broccoli and spinach is great. service is fast. They only take cash.

I love this place for breakfast it is fantastic! I have never had a milkshake as good as the one they serve her it is the excellent thickness and is to die for!

Fun place in the city for breakfast or lunch. Great variety to choose from. I would recommend this to all.

This is a place for good solid food consumed amid a lively crowd served by engaging wait staff. We ate lunch at the bar and enjoyed the one-on-one attention from our convivial Bangladeshi server. The Greek omelet was very good but the accompaniments were even better - tasty potatoes and no cheap mini-tubs of mass market Concord jelly but real aromatic good quality jams. My wife's bagel was big and toothsome with plenty of lox and capers. She pronounced the coffee also good. There can be crowds but its worth the wait.

EJ's Luncheonette is a must every time we visit New York. May be crowded, but you won't have to wait too long. And it's really worth waiting.

On Saturday for lunch/brunch, the place was packed. From the styling, it is nothing to write home about, but the food is solid, the menu what you'd expect from a restaurant like that. We had big chrunchy salads, the glass of chardonnay was mediocre at best. But the food was good and if you need, there are also dishes gluten free. Service was swift.

Started outdoors on a beautiful day but the fellow with whom I had a lunch date preferred indoors so he picked a table at the front and we moved there.....it was 11:45am so we could do that. I had a terrific hamburger. He had a terrific BLT. We sat and talked for an hour. TERRIFIC. I always knew EJ's was there but never went before as I'm not one for breakfast or lunch very often

The location was vert pretty: it’s a small but cozy diner and the interior design is perfectly on spot. The menu was quite simple but effective: everything was appetizing and really good. The waitress we interacted with was extremely nice and sarcastic in the right way. The bill wasn’t that expensive based on the prices in NYC.

This is a nice luncheonette/diner on a corner in the Upper East Side. Breakfast options are plentiful as well as portion size. I was also surprised that the prices weren't higher since we were in NYC but they seemed on par with other breakfast places. The food came fast and the plates were full. Our table had ordered eggs, pancakes, waffles, all kinds of breakfast meats, potatoes and more. All of it fresh, cooked to order and fast. The tables are a tight fit, but not uncomfortable. Small bathrooms in the lower level. NO credit cards accepted, so be ready with cash. They do have an ATM by the bathrooms.

Popped in for a quick breakfast marathon weekend on a Friday morning around 8:00 AM looking to "carb load". Went with their French Toast, as it sounded good and very different. That, it was. When they initially brought it out, I looked at the plate and thought "$12 for two full slices of French Toast...wow". However, it is VERY hearty bread and I couldn't even finish what they served me, so it was plenty. The French Toast is coated with Corn Flakes and Almonds, leading to a very unique texture and taste. It is not as soggy as some French Toast can be. I really enjoyed it. Worth a visit for breakfast if you're staying in the UES.

We visited for Sunday Brunch and had a fantastic brunch. The place was absolutely packed but we were seated quickly. This diner is fantastic - good coffee, great food and busy. We had pancakes and french toast and scrambled eggs but there were so much to choose from!

This may be the best veggie burger in town. So amazing, the tomatoes were divine, added grilled onions, and comes with avocado. Great service. Cash only restaurant.

A "retro" diner style restaurant. Good diner type food. Attentive service. A bit pricey for its kind.

Went for brunch and was very delighted with overall experience. Place is very clean which is amazing considering the amount of food prep going on. We had a booth right next to the food prep area and enjoyed watching the comings and goings. Food came quite quickly. We ordered their amazing French toast sticks as an "appeteaser"! HIGHLY recommend them. Absolutely awesome. I had the pastrami omelette which was excellent and just the right size portion. Lots of meat and not too big. Friend's salad was excellent and generous portion. Everyone was very satisfied with their dish and prices were not outrageous for NYC. Definitely recommend and will hopefully go back as I know I will crave those French toast sticks!!

I had the ‘breakfast sampler’ which was eggs, bacon, sausage, ham, toasted bagel and I also option for grits. My wife had a waffle with syrup. The waiter was very welcoming, chatting and attentive. Food came really quickly - and was great. We didn’t like the grits tbh but that was just an issue with our tastebuds. In fact the waiter told us all about what grits is and tried to convert us by giving us an extra portion for free and gave us honey and condiments to explore other flavours with it. I would recommend coming here on your way to The Met or Guggenheim (like we did).

Great fun, busy, genuine American fast food dining, good local beers, this is an excellent 'diner experience'. Not surprisingly, there was a 15 minute wait for a table. But this is fun dining, fast, furious and hot food delivered by agile, engaging staff.

Guys, we have been here after asking someone in Central Park while walking: we were looking for a true American place for burgers (we are tourists in NYC) at a normal (European) price: well, this is The place for the ultimate burger experience: the taste is outstanding and the burger is juicy as it should be. And the service is top! Well done guys, we highly recommend you!

The best corned beef hash In nyc. The waiter was so good I bought him his own plate of his favorite in the restaurant corned beef hash on the way out.

a neighborhood easy place to bring the whole family or sit at the counter as I often do to have lunch alone.

We went there for Sunday Brunch on a recommendation. Busy as you'd expect. The staff got us seated within 5 minutes. The food was terrific. Big portions. Mimosas. Good coffee. Very prompt and efficient service. Very good value. Handy location.

We are so happy our friends took us to this place the first time we were in NYC. Now we have to come back each time in NYC - and we are never disappointed. Diner place with local guests coming in. The food tastes great. The ambience is a little bit laid back, but they are always ready to serve you. Quite simple interior and you can hear and see what´s going on in the kitchen. Yes, we will come back next time to.

Yep...in the middle of NYC, a cash only restaurant. Fortunately I read the reviews here, because you cannot tell from the menu posted on the outside window of this diner. It just is small print on the bill when you pay. Aside from that small inconvenience, here is a sit down restaurant, where from 4-6pm you can have a full dinner with salad and dessert for $14.00. Almost unheard of. Clearly a neighborhood crowd. Our food was fine. Not greasy diner food, good food. Server and host were really pleasant. Ye, its a crowded place. In this neighborhood that appears to be the norm. Retro diner decor, not traditional NY diner decor as some reviewers say. But crowded with booths, and small crowded tables in a sidewalk enclosure. Organic and gluten free options, and breakfast, except for home fries and oatmeal is all day. Nothing not to like.

We stopped in due to some bad weather while walking to a friends apartment further up the road. The place was nowhere near full but when we told the waiter we only wanted a tea and fresh orange he huffed. I imagine it was because he thought we wouldn’t tip well shame on him because he let another girl serve us and we tipped her generously. Tea was ok orange juice wasn’t chilled. Can’t comment on the food we didn’t eat. Place looked good but staff attitude is a big part of the package and it lacked from some.

Visiting from England and wanted a good old boy style breakfast before hitting the Guggenheim. EJ’s breakfast special bacon, sausage, egg x2 and toast with coffee hit the spot. Wife had the best waffle and blueberry compote ‘ever’. EJ’s delivers clean, speedy appetising food with friendly service happy to recommend.

This is very good place at any time during the day or night. Their bar has less liquor than the headquarters of AA. The grilled sandwiches are outstanding. Now the kicker. Chocolate milk is milk with chocolate syrup, a milk shake add ice cream and malted add malt power to the milk shake. They charge 1$ to add malt which is about a 1000 increase in their actual cost. But the kicker was the malted came as thin as if it were plain chocolate milk, no bulk no enhanced taste. In addition, the genius who made my malted milk placed it in a warm glass. Disaster

We have visited EJ's when it was on the west side and twice now they it's on the UPper East side. Sunday morning and we got seated right away when it was fully packed. Food comes quick and people move out of their seats quickly. Endless menu. Breakfast or lunch all day long. Whether it's a plate of pancakes or a club sandwich stacked high, the food is filling and delicious. Staff is quick and courteous. Restaurant is bright and clean. We sat off the main eating area in what was probably a patio closed in and could look out the windows and people watch. It is a favorite we return to each trip we take.

This Luncheonette is one block away from the apartment where I always stay in NY. When I visit I ensure I get at least one breakfast here. This year I was most cordially greeted and the breakfast was superb, just like home cooking.

My son and I were visiting NYC, and just looking for a menu with yummy brunch menu items. The chocolate chip pancakes needed no additional toppings, as the chocolate chips with the warm pancakes, melted just enough for a spreadable topping. I had the southwest salad, and it was very good. We had planned to come back, but just ran out of time. Cash only!

Arrived hungry and nostalgic after years away from New York. Left satisfied, plates not quite empty, and reminded of just how noisy NY eateries can be. My daughter her fiance took us here after we had arrived on a long flight. A line outside at 2 pm on a Sunday indicated it was an excellent choice, as did the smells and general atmosphere wafted towards us as we waited. Menu was all you could expect from a diner on a Sunday; portions were huge; service was just the right side of surly. My pancakes were great. My wife*s eggs benedict the best she*d ever had. Highly recommended, as long as yoy don*t need to hear each other talk as you indulge in large quantities of great breakfast favourites.

Disappointing diner that has a prime position on 3rd Avenue and 73rd St. Boring menu that never changes with servers running all over the place but never seeming to be there when you need them. Management could really make an effort to improve the quality here as they certainly have the audience.. No credit cards which is a rarity in NYC makes it very inconvenient. Closes at around 10.00 pm which is also a pity!

The food is actually nice but the staff is among the rudest I have experienced. Not at all friendly. Will not come back

We went there for brunch at New Year’s Day and although the place was packed we didn’t have to wait for more than 10 minutes before we got a table. The place looks like something from a movie and it’s really enjoyable to dine there. The food is really good and affordable and the waitress was superb! We really enjoyed it and if we come back to visit New York we sure will have another brunch at EJ’s!

Stopped with three teens for a late breakfast/lunch. Server was friendly and attentive. We had omelettes, crispy French toast, and chicken quesadilla. All were quite tasty. We would go back if in front of the place at breakfast or lunch but wouldn't make a special trip.

We were here for lunch and all four of us were surprised by the variety of meals that we could order. The burger was pretty good, the salad huge and delicious and the french toast sweet and fluffy. This is a nice, convenient place to go if you are looking for a fast, decent lunch. I can imagine the diner is very suitable for breakfast. The service was fast and the food made us happy.

Found this diner on the second day of our NYC vacation and we could not have been more satisfied! Quite close to the city center and to Central Park, great place to eat, traditional diner-style restaurant with super friendly staff and delicious meals! The burgers were just the best👌

I live in the neighborhood and EJ’s is my go-to spot for takeout when I don’t feel like cooking, or for when I have someone visiting from out of town and want to show them a great spot! The steak quesadilla especially is to die for, and all the employees are so kind. Will continue to frequent EJ’s!

Me and my two friends stopped off for breakfast before a busy day of sightseeing. Our waiter was miserable I asked for pancakes without cinnamon to which he said it was mixed in and I wouldn’t taste it I wasn’t sure that would be true so my friend suggested have pancakes with another topping which he said was fine but did not suggest this off his own back and was willing to let me order something I wouldn’t like. One of my friends asked for eggs with a selection on bread he said it comes with that which was great till her breakfast came and that wasn’t true which left her very unhappy. My pancakes had a hair in them which when brought to the attention of a different waiter than ours their reply was “do you want them changed” no apology or token of their apology, their customer service is non existent in my opinion and if ever back in NY I would never step foot in there again.

Real diner far from the crass places around Times Square. Friendly staff and local patrons make this a delightful adventure. Only complaint..no Diet Coke!

This Upper East Side luncheonette is a cut above your usual coffee shop. The food is good and it's a better overall dining experience than the nearby coffee shops. Begun on the West Side, this location has become a neighborhood favorite for families and local shopkeepers. It's designed with a streamline-look from the 1111930's. I like it because they serve steel-cut oatmeal.

Just want to let you know EJ's is well worth the wait. The food is always fantastic., The staff is always smiling. My son has allergies and they were wonderful and made him a superb breakfast. We were a large group and Rich and Mohab (excuse the spelling, I lost the card that I wrote their names on) were amazing. They got us set up and managed our crazy group with ease, Will be back again and again. It isn't easy to find a place in NYC with great food and GREAT STAFF!!!

I have been to EJ's a few times over the last 10 years. First on the upper west side and now on the upper east side. I always try to visit when in NY. It's a very popular place, we had to queue just briefly on a Sunday around 10. The pancakes and French toast are delicious and the milkshakes massive! The food is served quickly and always piping hot. I would recommend to anyone looking for a NY breakfast experience.

We went there for a quick bite and it turned out to be a huge bite. The food portion is very big (than what normally is served in my country). We ordered chicken Reuben and turkey club. I particularly like the sauce coming with the Reuben. The coffee shake was also very good, would recommend.

Large menu with great specials. Parking could be a problem. Lots of meter parking. Prices are fine but some specials are not cheap. Food portions are good and service is very good. Had the steak special which comes with salad and two sides. Desserts are extra charge but some selections are worth it. They do take credit cards. You will not go away Hungary.

This restaurant is a great place the food is awesome the staff is very polite, this place nice and very clean

With 2 growing sons we needed an excellent breakfast to kick start the day. And we weren't disappointed. Excellent huge pancakes, waffles, sides of bacon, fruit on top. Or if eggs is your thing all options are available and the breakfast sampler was a great US equivalent of the Full English... Add to that free coffee refills and what's not to like. The diner was clean and staff friendly, service was prompt. All good.

A group of four of us stumbled upon EJ's Luncheonette on Thanksgiving Day. We were in the mood for burgers and EJ's hit the spot. The burgers are big and juicy and there's an option of choosing grass-fed beef for $3 more. The sweet potato fries are delicious too. Despite it being Thanksgiving, the service was excellent at EJs. The server was attentive with our drinks and had a great attitude. We even spotted a minor celebrity and his family there. I would definitely visit EJs again.

The food is fine taste-wise, but the portions seem to have shrunk lately. For their price of a side of bacon, that bacon better be amazing. It was good, but not earth-shattering.

Good authentic. Don't take credit cards. Happy to keep you on the door until your full party arrives, so they know they're popular. But friendly and the food is genuine American diner fare. Really enjoyed it.

The cheery yellow paint added to the feeling of deja vu. Ham and eggs, pancakes, omelettes and fresh squeezed orange juice makes me feel that traditional breakfast can be had in the upper east side. We had a wonderful server, polite and efficient. Prices were reasonable, and they now take credit cards.

We sat outside for brunch. We had an excellent chicken tortilla soup and a very good grilled salmon salad with corn lettuce, tomatoes and so on. We also had eggs with toast, bacon and home fries. This is a very good neighborhood standby.

Diners are a special restaurant species and are frequently sighted along the streets of New York City where the good ones - the most handsome of the species - thrive. EJ's Luncheonette is a fine example. You can, as their T-shirts say, "come for breakfast and stay for dinner". Not to mention lunch in between. You'll be happy you visited for whatever meal. Lunch at EJ's offers all the usual dishes. One of my favorites is a grilled bacon and cheese with coleslaw. Wow, that's good. For dinner one evening I had their "famous meatloaf." Is it famous? I don't know - but it should be. I kept trying to stop nibbling at the big portion I was served but couldn't resist just one more bite. Oh well. So much for willpower in the face of really tasty food. EJ's is wildly popular for brunch on the weekends, so you will often encounter a line out the door. If diners are your thing, EJ's will soon be one of your favorites.

This was such a find. Salads were fantastic and home made lemonade on a hot day with air con was just what we needed.

Stopped in for a late night snack after our long flight in from Milan. Not easy to find, but is a good walk from Madison and 69th where we were staying. The food is classic, and simple, so do not expect anything fancy. The perfect place to unwind and start getting into the NY mode... I would be very happy to go back!

This friendly place is “old school” complete with booths and Formica tables and countertops and old fashioned posters advertising Nesbitt’s orange soda. Blackboard lunch specials included a hearty meatloaf sandwich (with fries) which my spouse ordered and loved. I had one of my all-time favorites—a tuna melt, this one open-faced and topped with sliced tomato as well as cheddar cheese. Yum! Ice tea is available as well as wine if you’d like. A fun and popular place!

Food ok. But the waiter was rude and brusque as was the lady who seemed to be a manager of some kind. Rushed us out as soon as we finished eating. Not nice. Been going here for 20 years but this would put me off returning.

Great little diner in the upper east side. Menu is typical diner menu but the décor is classic and in that sense a bit more fun than some of the newer places around. The staff are funny as well. Went at lunch and were seated immediately. Portions are large.

Got off the subway early on the way to The Guggenhiem for a proper American breakfast. It was definitely worth it. Two of us had French toast - a big plate of brioche toast with toppings (I had banana and almonds - they certainly didn't scrimp on the topping) and a bottle of warm maple syrup. Big glasses of fruit juice and continuous refills of mugs of coffee. Service also good. Would definitely recommend!

So disappointed. This used to be a good diner and now the food sucks and is so expensive. We left and had to go eat elsewhere afterwards. Disgusting.

Amazing food - simple dishes with quality ingredients. We arrived early for Sunday morning brunch and got a great seat by the window, making people watching a perfect addition to our meal. Highly recommended!

We stopped in here for a late lunch after touring the Met. The menu variety includes vegetarian and carnivorous selections. The service is courteous and prompt. Prices track to the upper east side of Manhattan. Seating is a bit cramped, however.

I have had breakfast meetings at EJ's several times and it has always been very good. Clean, great food, generous portions, excellent service and reasonably priced. Good choice for breakfast!

We dived here after a walk through Central Park and visiting the Metropolitan Museum, and we reckon it was worth seeking out. We groaned a bit when we saw the crowds of diners inside, but somehow or other we ended up sitting at the bar and ordering our lunch from there. We ordered a frankfurter, which was very good and I had an omelette, which was cooked just to my taste. Great drinks - I had a freshly squeezed grapefruit juice (although they did initially try to give me an orange juice, but it was quickly changed. Such a lot of food, we didn't have any fries or salad, what was on our plates was more than enough. Really buzzy atmosphere, and the service was great. Would definitely visit again.

We had a variety of yummy sandwiches and salads and everyone loved their selection. Highly recommend the sweet potato fries! Delicious!

Food was lovely without any doubt. However, extremely rude staff ruined the whole experience. As I work in hospitality in London I can say that I have solid knowledge about how to behave to your guests. I was well aware about the ridiculous custom of leaving tips - as a waiting staff should be paid by an employer, not by guests. I am always happy to tip I am pleased by the service and I can decide how much I intend to leave - this probably does not work like this in EJ's as I was forced to leave more than I intended and when it still was not enough for our waiter he stopped us and blocked our way out of the diner. Can't believe what happened and can't say anything else but DISGUSTING!

Very good restaurant Reasonable Award correct welcome impeccable service and very good quality Friendly staff

If elbow room came in the same portions as the food, I'd give it 5-stars. Fresh, creative salads, great chicken noodle soup and hearty sandwiches at a reasonable price keep this diner packed and a-buzz. Service is somewhat abrupt and hurried, but they're in a rush to turn tables during peak mealtimes.

EJS is a neighborhood favorite with awesome eggs, burgers, salads etc. This is NOT a place for foodies but rather for families and groups who want a quality quick bite. This place has been around forever and is packed on weekends especially for breakfast/ brunch.

this is one of our first stops during our annual return to NYC. It never disappoints! French toast, omelets, burgers, sandwiches, salads, milk shakes... Always busy and always worth the wait. If you have never had an American Diner experience, EJ's is a must.

good food and plenty of it. I think it is open 24 hours. Also has alcohol. Fast ,friendly service. A neighborhood gem.

Holidaying in New York and found this remarkable traditional diner when looking to have breakfast. Excellent menu with loads of great dishes to choose from. The food is tasty and the portions are generous. Friendly service and a nice relaxing atmosphere. Superb.

I've been here many times and the food quality and service is always very consistent. It's always very busy on the weekend, but the they always find a way to find a seem very quickly.

We stopped for a quick bite after a long day...and this hit the spot. We shared a grass-fed burger and it was delish!

EJ's is kind of a New York institution with a great breakfast menu and a classic diner feel. We had excellent breakfast wraps and will have to return to try the sweeter dishes like pancakes and French toast. Solid bet if you're in the area.

Me and my fiance ate here twice while we were in New York City because of a referral from a local walking in central park while we were on the way to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. It is in the upper east side of the city and we'll worth the walk from the upper west side of New York. Ask for Tiffany if you are going to eat there. She is a great server and very personable and down to earth. Truly a great place to eat for a reasonable price. We will be back.

If your are on or near the east side of Central Park, and want a little taste of an American Diner on your visit. Go to EJ’s. The menu has plenty of options including for vegetarians and all at good prices. I had the original EJ crunchy French toast and my gf had the pancakes, and then you can choose what you would like to add as extras including blueberries, bananas, bacon etc. The service was good and we weren’t rushed and allowed to enjoy the experience and food.

I found EJ's on a local blog about good breakfast places. Located in the Upper East Side, it had that classic diner feel straight out of a movie. We sat at the counter and had wonderful, friendly service. I ordered the crunchy French toast, which was delicious. Everyone eating there appeared to be locals. I would definitely recommend this for breakfast and would like to try it again for lunch or dinner.

I give the highest score because this is a place that needs to be saved as it is, to be preserved from the wear and tear of time and customs. Like going back in time, with a refined taste, ancient courtesies and an enviable price. Squeeze the ketchup, put the burger on your plate and close your eyes.

We remembered EJ’s from our last visit 10 years ago and it hasn’t changed one bit! Imagine a choice of every American diner classic; flapjacks, bacon, eggs, home fries, fruit, real maple syrup, toast, coffee...nomnomnom!

If you are in the neighborhood at breakfast make sure you try this place. Classic diner style but food much better. Crunchy French toast is excellent and make sure you get fruit with it. Wife had avocado toast which she loved. You will enjoy. A little more expensive than most but well worth it.

This place came recommended by a friend and it is also in a tourist guide to NY. What a disappointment! Food was nothing to write home about -dry waffle not even whipped cream on the side; pancakes=flapjacks as they call them here were huge and way too dry- even drenching them in maple syrup didn't make them any more appealing. Lemonade was disgusting concoction of industrial strawberry syrup and soda. The place looks dirty and sticky as the vapours from the kitchen go everywhere making you smell of fried food. Staff were obnoxious- telling us we "should have left the stroller by the door" and not explaining they have a cloakroom hidden at the end of conservatory. Then as my little boy started to crawl under the tables, one kitchen guy went on to film him on his iphone! To top it up a manager asked me to tidy up after my toddler threw sugar packets on the floor. So to sum it up: two portions of pancakes, two soft drinks and one kid's meal cost us 50 dollars and we were not welcome with our toddler. Avoid.

Being a very popular place among locals it is a privilege to eat here as a tourist when visiting friends in NYC. The typical american diner food is great and the ambience is busy but friendly. You leve happy and filled up...!

Wether not we had tourist written on our forehead we most defiantly did not get ‘local’ service. A grunt when ordering, and food and water was somewhat dumped in front of us. Having been to many diners in NYC it seems that only locals get a different level of service. Was reluctant to tip more than 10%.

Poor food. Poor welcome. Cold home fries. No apology. The food arrives way too quickly. It is average at best. Nice ambience but the food and service is poor. Seems like no one really cares in NY anymore about service but they care enough about the tips! NY and it’s horrible tipping expectation for service that is generally not good any longer. Avoid.

The restaurant was packed on a Sunday around lunch time. The menu was extensive for breakfast and lunch. Food was fresh and fast.

While taking a walk with my hubby in NYC we passed EJ Luncheonette & I mentioned that from the outside it looks like an old fashioned diner. My cousins said it was a good place to try for breakfast. So the following day we tried the Luncheonette. we went around 10:30am & were quickly shown to a booth. My hubby & I both ordered the nova lox, eggs,& onion omelette which came with potatoes. & toast. We both ordered coffee. This was the most expensive omelette on the menu at $15.99. The omelette was very good, but my hubby thought it was a little "light " on the lox. Since the luncheonette looked like an old fashioned diner, my hubby decided to ask if they had an egg cream & was very happy when they did. The egg cream was very good. (Hard to get an egg cream in NJ.). The bill actually came to $45,(not including the tip) a little expensive for breakfast . We did go back another evening so my husband could order a black & white malted which he also liked a lot( it wasn't quite like the old fashioned malted but close enough)

Located in a high price neighborhood, EJs seems a throwback to an earlier era — an era of good food at reasonable prices! We have had breakfast there and recommend it, but mainly go out of our way at lunchtime where they have a wonderful chicken tortilla soup, great sandwiches and salads. We have also seen celebrities there, who like the combination of quality food at reasonable prices. No tablecloths, and the servers are friendly but NYC “matter of fact”. It used to be cash only but I think they now take credit cards.

This NYC staple has gone downhill. We have been going there for at least 10 years for a quick good breakfast ...nothing fancy --eggs, toast, homefries and great coffee. Well it pains me to say THAT SHIP HAS SAILED! Homefries are now tasteless, coffee burnt, and toast stale and cold or burnt. Service was subpar on a non-busy late morning during the week...had to ask for much of the items that usually are on the table. The price even for the area is steep-$30 ! I wish it was just this once but this has been for at least the last 4 times. So sad...we even have their mugs at home. We are done as there are better options. We will miss them.

Good burgers s, nice breakfast but lot of noise. Very crowded on weekends and lots of small children. If you want quiet with your meal do not come here. Food is pretty good with relatively fair prices.

This UES "luncheonette" is now the place to go when you're looking for home cooked, full meals, light bites (they're even large portions!) breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner, desert, whatever. EJ's now has 3 separate outdoor seating areas since the pandemic. This is a neighborhood place with lots of regulars that's always welcoming to tourists. You can sit at the counter which you don't see much of in NYC and it's a great way to enjoy your meal and chat with locals. The food is fresh, it does get busy on weekend mornings and evenings because it's a great place for real food that's made to order just as you'd like.

We had enjoyed a great dinner last evening at Tony’s di Napoli (see review) but were getting hungry so my daughter suggested EJ’s for breakfast. We Ubered over taking in the sights on a beautiful blue sky dog day. It was Saturday so lots of dogs were out many wearing little designer jackets walking their owners. We were expecting a waiting line but luckily we were seated immediately at a nice sidewalk window table...more dogs walking by. The place was buzzing with activity full of great smells and sights as plates stacked high with waffles french toast pancakes and fresh fruit wizzed by...hungry now. Looks like we were in the right place...good call. Our server appeared offered drinks so we asked for coffee and explained that we were waiting for a forth... no worries. He said that he was brewing a fresh pot if we could wait. He reappeared quickly with EJ’s emblazoned cups steaming with hot fresh delicious coffee. We glanced through their extensive menu and brunch list while thoroughlly enjoying their house roast as our appetites grew. See for yourselves: ejsluncheonette.com My daughter’s friend arrived. We chose two EJ’s specials french toast and wife opted for toast and bacon. Everything was tasty especially the home fries and we really enjoyed the sights sounds and tastes of EJ’s especially on such a gorgeous day in NYC. Turns out that EJ’s open for 27 years is not just about their food it’s also about the people...their happy guests as well as their entire staff. Now let me tell you about Alex our server. Alex was very personable with an infectious smile. He was fun funny engaging and intelligent. Oh...providing excellent service checking back often and keeping our coffees filled. We had a funny discussion about him trying to hit guests’ often moving cups with HOT coffee (leave them on the table). Alex saw my wife nibbling our daughter’s home fries so he brought her a little complimentary bowl of her own...she was tickled. A great server makes the experience makes the food taste better and makes you want to return soon...and we will. Alex is an asset...clone him. Their restrooms are in the basement like in Paris and have the same scary stairs. Watch your step mon ami. My friends be sure to try EJ’s Luncheonette when hungry on the Eastside in NYC and ask for Alex. We then enjoyed walking off our breakfast on Park Madison and 5th avenues in the fresh breezy spring air. Good food great people, Ricardo y Julia

We’ve had breakfast at EJ’s Luncheonette. Great and proper all american diner with the usual free refill coffee’s. We’ve had a great meal and drinks, only downside was the fact that the seats at the bar are so close to the bar (and cant be moved) that I could sit properly. Besides the uncomfortable bar-seats it was en fine visit to EJ’s.

Uncannily consistent terrible place - from the rudeness of reception to a manager who “doesn’t give a damn” (his words literally) to really bad food. Do they set you up to expect “bad” and the deliver “worse.” Now that takes talent. Too bad they don’t use it for better service and better food. I must admit the waiters are harried so I’m giving them a pass. I know there are long lines but PLEASE AVOID THIS PLACE if you like yourself and the others in your group.

Dropped in to EJ's on the spur of the moment for dinner, expecting to choose from their extensive and well-known all day breakfast menu. Instead, we opted for a veggie burger and the fish tacos. Really good! Our waitress was "old school" in the best way...good suggestions, courteous and friendly service...we "felt" the diner atmosphere. Sitting in a booth near the service window, it was a treat watching the assembly line as kitchen staff handed over orders (both in-house and take-out) for delivery. Overall, quite a fun experience.

We went for brunch. The interior is great, quaint and cute. The food is of high quality and plentiful. It's the overall experience that ensures I'll always make a special trip to visit this diner. Don't miss it!

Originally, there was a wait for a table yet within a few minutes we were seated. Service was quick, friendly, and enjoyable. The soupFrench Onion)and sandwiches(Tuna Salad)were good and filling. We shared a chocolate mall for desert afterwards. Nothing is cheap in NYC-$33 plus 20 percent tip brought the total to $40. Caution: they don't accept credit cards- cash only. It is a good bet if you are shopping the East Side or visiting one of the museums in the area. We were visiting the Neue Gallery 13 blocks north. There are other locations of this restaurant in NYC, also.
Always a good breakfast
It has been many, many years since I was last at this luncheonette. I remembered when it opened. I was in the neighborhood today and stopped in for a late breakfast. Good, quality food and friendly staff in an environment where you don't feel rushed. So happy it hasn't lost anything over the decades.
