Korean Food like HOME

By pamelaruban |

I was finding for some late night korean food. I checked for reviews on Google and found that Five Senses was one of the top rated, best priced restaurants down the street. I went there with my cousin and we ordered the soon-jae-bee (rice cake soup) and the bibim nangmyun (spicy cold noodles). Both dishes were so heavenly, they almost tasted like real authentic food straight from Korea! if you are really wanting some korean food that tastes like home, I HIGHLY recommend this place. The setting, the aura, the food is absolutely fantastic and it will make you feel like you're actually in Korea. The service there was also really nice, and everyone was quick to work and serve. 5/5, definitely recommend!

Goto Place in Ktown

By jettpac |

Went a couple years ago when they first opened. Nothing spectacular but they did everything right and set in a contemporary environment. Fast service, Great food, comfortable seating and more importantly, affordable. Went back recently, while new additions didn't really catch on with me, their staples remain SOLID. Jigae's, and Kimchi Rice. My goto place in ktown at anytime of day or night.

Great Korean food in good portions, doesn't take reservations

By Leza H |

Like lots of places in New York this place doesn't take reservations and will only seat you at a table once ALL of your party are present...even if there are 3 of you waiting for a 4th person, you have to stand in line and wait until you are all there. At 6pm there was already a line...if it goes out of the door and it's raining you're going to need an umbrella. The food is great; typical Korean food in good size portions. It gets very noisy and you have to raise your voices to have a conversation so it wouldn't be a romantic place to come but we will go back again with friends because the food is very tasty. Not cheap, but nowhere in New York is if you want good quality. Good service, fast turnover. It's not a place where you can really kick back and relax. Come for an earlyish dinner around 7/8pm, eat good food..then head on someplace else like the bar on the roof of The Mondrian Hotel. I imagine this place will serve consistently good food. We thought it was worth standing in line for 10 minutes for a table.

Everything great.

By Crongmor |

Found this place by chance while on a trip to New York. Walked up from our hotel in Gramercy and we were starving by the time we got to Korea Town, which is a risk as it can mean you end up choosing a place too rashly and end up regretting it. We didn't regret going to this restaurant; in fact I'd say it was the best meal we had in New York by a long way. I had a huge bowl of beef noodle soup which was hot, spicy, meaty and delicious. I was enjoying it so much I didn't realise I got half of it all over my t-shirt and shorts.

K-town Hit!!!

By Suzana K |

When I used to live in NYC many years ago there was no real k-town (Korean Town). Well hello K-town!!! The neighborhood rocks, a taste of Korea in NYC kewl!!! Not sure exactly what we ate but it was good, it was a rice dish, a noodle dish, a pancake, and chicken and beef BBQ. Someone in our group ordered and did a fantastic job. I took pictures of most of it. One of the fun parts was the condiments they provide as soon as you sit down. They do their best though to hurry you in and out to accommodate the line.

Good Korean food!

By Sjane-irl |

Really good Korean food, extremely spicy. So if you don't like spicy I'd steer clear. The place has a cool vibe, with load music and is always busy and bustling. The staff are super super efficient, so if you're in a rush this place is perfect. However I did feel the staff were rushing you to finish each course and leave so that they could squeeze someone else in. Overall nice place, nice Korean beer too!

Introduction to Korean food

By Layne |

Wife and I came here on a weekend trip to NYC from Dallas for a late night dinner. They were very busy, and the service was slow. We also didn't get any guidance on the menu items - it would have been more enjoyable if the server could have offered or taken time to explain. We ended up ordering beef noodle soups, the only thing we really felt comfortable ordering on our own. We were seated next to another couple who carried on a loud conversation nonstop, which also made the experience less than ideal. I guess for a regular or someone who knows exactly what to order it's a good place, but my wife and I won't return in the future.

Fabulous trip to Korea for lunch.

By Stella S |

Wonderful menu. Great service and delicious fresh and true taste of Korea. Modern casual clean environment. Had Bim Bap with meat made to perfection

Amazing korean food

By gamze_hurmuzlu |

Great service, great food with reasonable prices. Great Korean food in the heart of Korea Town in Manhattan. It gets really busy during lunch time but we had no problem getting a seat. Great soup, fried rice everything comes with complimentary kimchi’s and other appetizers. Amazing food, highly recommended.

Busy place

By wawsupathra |

We went in the city to this Korean town and yes,we found what we wanted. We got the table at second floor by the glass window it was nice tho, staff came to take order right away. Nice food friendly staff but waiting time was a bit long.

Food is so so, but the service is horrible

By Michael Z |

Have been eating at this place a few times. The food is ok but the service is not great. My latest visit was my last. The manager would not sit me at the next available table because i was waiting for my friend. They gave away tables for two to single customers but would not sit me because I was waiting for someone. The bottom line, the food is not that great to put up with bad service.

Kimchi fried rice is good

By Tunaidi |

The food is good and, yes, the kimchi fried rice is interesting. However, the other Korean cuisine staples hardly justify the prices and the waits in line.

Korean done well

By AirSchis |

Expect a wait at this place given it is pretty busy and mostly with Korean/Asian customers. That is always a good sign. We went with friends who get here quite often. The wait was worth it and the staff did a great job of looking after their two young daughters. Each dish was excellent and tasty. Not all the food we ordered was spicy and in fact most dishes are pretty easy on the spice if that bothers you. Very authentic Korean food given we are in Koreatown. Easy to find this restaurant which is fairly close to Broadway. Their waiting area is pretty comfortable in the cold weather. For certain we will be back for their Korean food.

nice Korean food

By ani groisman |

Very good! If u r looking for korean food in NYC and nice place this one is good for you! I recommend

Nice food

By omarmonqui |

Really nice food, most dishes have meat, chicken or seafood, but they have some tasty vegetarian options. The only thing I didn’t like was the music, feels like I’m having lunch at H&M and it’s just as loud or maybe I’m just old

Outstanding korean food!!!

By Cesar T |

Excellent Korean cuisine, rich flavor to its finest. Well marinated meat and chicken. Staff are very humble, courteous and friendly. Definitely, we will go back. A must stop in NYC.

Just srirachsa

By Klint_12 |

Ordered grilled shrimp, dry and hard to separate from shell, had to eat them not peeled. The beef dish was ok, hoped more beef though. Squid dish was noodles and onions, not too much squid. Tasted just sriracha too much or something similar.

Fabulous Korean food just steps from Herald Square

By NancySimmons |

Looking for a convenient, moderately priced Korean restaurant with excellent food? Look no further! I was headed to the subway at lunch time when Five Senses caught my eye. Unlike many of the other Korean restaurants on the block, this one was full of Koreans eating lunch.... always a good sign. I've eaten in a number of Korean restaurants in NY and NJ in the last few years, and this one has by far the best food. The waiters were friendly (even though I am not Korean), the menu reasonably clear, the little dishes diverse and pleasing, and my main course -- a hot Bebimbap -- was exceptional. I will definitely go back!

A great restaurant! The service is good, the food is great and quite authentic, the prices are reasonable/

By drmayag |

We dines there twich - once in the evening and once at lunch. It was almost completely full in both occassions, but we were sat immediately, although we didn't book a table in advance. Whenever I am in New York - I dine there.

Korean Treasure

By cammer10 |

We were staying in Little Korea in Manhattan and deceided to stay close to our hotel on 31st Street for supper. Walking down 32nd Street we saw the Five Senses restaurant and noticed it was full of young people obviously enjoying the ambiance of the restaurant and the food. We had a braised beef dish, a homemade beef and pork dumpling beef broth soup and a spicy beef soup with scallions. Every dish was excellent I had the spicy beef soup and I would describe it as more food than enough for one person with a perfect amount of spice. If you like Korean food or are adventurous definitely have a meal here. I read the other reviews and definitely didn't find the service lacking.

NYC K-Town Staple with Good Food

By W H |

One thing about being close to K-Town in NYC (32nd/31st streets between 5th & 6th Ave), is you have a variety of Korean food & they're open very late or in some cases, 24 hours. Unless you're intimately familiar with Korean food, the places start blurring together & most places offer the same basic staples - bbq, dumplings, tofu stew, etc. Few things I appreciated about this place - it was not as crowded as the other places (there was no wait) & the place was bbq smoke free (a lot of Korean places offering bbq don't have adequate ventilation & you come out smelling like you got barbecued - for a traveler with limited wardrobe - not a good thing). The decor could be a little better - plastic flower center pieces are a bit distracting and corny. Aside from the typical appetizers (kimchi, glass noodles, etc), they also offered some unusual items - fermented beans, sesame oil infused green vegetables, spice soaked turnips that has the taste/texture of Asian dried squid). Anything different and tasty is a plus in my book. In need of some vegetables - had a Korean salad with a little bit of meat which was super refreshing. Seafood silky tofu stew and Sapporo beer rounded out my meal. The total came out to about $ 35 USD. The service was attentive (though in some of the other Korean places, they would crack the egg into the stew for you & rice comes out in the same stone clay pot that gets scooped up into the metal bowl and the remainder is made into a porridge - minor quibble). All in all - recommended if you want to avoid the crowd but still want to enjoy an authentic Korean meal.

Korean style

By Andersl |

This restaurant offers good Food for a fair price (NYC prices!). Korean food which you grill at the table. Busy place

Bad food and bad service

By sjmc |

Family of three queued for a seat and when we were seated the waitress took our order. It took forever for our order to arrive and when it did my bibimpa was missing rice and chilli sauce. The waitress told us we would have to pay an extra two dollars for another bowl (very strange because these are the main ingredients for bibimpa. All the dishes were over sweet to the extent we had significant leftovers. As soon as we finished we prepared to pay and leave and we were ordered to leave immediately. The owner obviously wanted to fill the table quickly but the staff was extremely rude. Bad food and bad service.

Hot Korean Food

By Vinay M |

The service is super fast. The food is delicious. If you enjoy hot and spicy , this is the place for you. The soups are great. The Octopus was good. Limited choices for only Veg. Good place for hearty meal.

If there were 6 Senses.....

By Keith W |

.....I'd see happy people. Outstanding dol pan kimchi bokum bap! Very popular amongst many Korean restaurants in the block. Lines long but move quickly . Dishes comes out fast, sizzling hot, ample portions-- and delicious. Definitely a reco for midtown dining.

Delicious!

By Jessie |

The best food, so tasted just what we were looking for on the same street of our hotel, YUM! So many options, there was a bit of a line up at the front door but worth the wait!

Good food, but

By caseybS633QU |

Dont go with a large party when it’s crowded. They will first make you wait by the door (OK, I understand, there’s a line for everyone) then take you to the back of the room and make you wait by the toilets. Bad idea!

Amazing

By Just a Guy |

Food was great, service too. We had the spicy octopus, The signature Kim cha fried rice and a rice noodle dish with vegetables, all were just amazing!

Delicious!

By Andrea C |

Firstly, I LOVE Korean food. I live in a smaller city in a smaller state, so I was excited to be in Koreatown. The food is pretty expensive ($35 for the main dish I ordered) but it was worth it, plus most things in K-town are expensive, it's something you should expect. I was stuffed afterwards, as they do give you a decent amount. The haemul pajeon was very fresh as they promised, while the kalbi was deliciously flavorful and tender. My only small complaint is that I didn't get the Sprite that I ordered, but I could tell it was an honest mistake because we heard the waitress say, "I gave it to them," and then she looked over and realized she had forgotten, but it's okay because they didn't charge me for it. They also have several vegetarian options on their menu (which are not on their display menu outside). It was a pleasant surprise since we had a friend who was vegetarian and very worried about what she would have to eat.

Great spot for some good Korean food--best wings ever.

By jkbreezy |

My husband and I came here on a Sunday night and they have a soju special where a bottle was $8.88--amazing unexpected deal. I got the kimchi fried rice with beef and we split the wings. The wings are the best I've ever had and so flavorful. The place was packed at 10:30pm on a Sunday, so you know it's good.

Lively place, good food

By Eastlight108 |

This place was absolutely packed early on a Monday evening. We had the scallion pancake and the bibambap, both very good. Nice waitstaff, fast service.

Will be back to try more

By Miumiu88 |

Went for an early dinner this weekend after a movie and was surprised to see that this place filled up quickly by 5:00pm. Liked the Five Senses salad which was refreshing with its citron dressing, a perfect complement for the grilled tiger shrimps and fried chicken wings we ordered. The shrimps could be fresher but the great taste kind of made it up. Probably not a fair comparison to Kyochon Fried Chicken we had in Seoul, but these seemed to be pre-made and just fried again before serving. We had not ordered the most popular dishes this time but we were happy with our meal in general. Will be back to try the rest that the restaurant is being known for.

Good Korean food

By Ilya O |

Went here several times with my family. There is always a line to get in (no reservations), but it's worth the wait. The food is authentic, tasty and reasonably priced. I agree that the service is not the friendliest, but it's efficient and, again - the food. Highly recommend it.

KoreaTown Grill

By JaWestPalmBeach |

A typical Korean grill in the midst of the KoreaTown. The food and service were good. This is not the modern Korean foodie restaurant, but a traditional Korean grill and food. Be aware that the portions are quite large - we saw groups of people ordering a couple of main dishes and sharing them. You also get a set of appetizers for free, so the amount of food is substantial. TravelDad.World was here exploring for our clients.

Superb all around

By jfwilder |

This is one that I would surely return to when in NYC. Great authentic Korean food, reasonable prices and good portions. Service was good, place was clean and everyone there seemed to be enjoying things. What more can you say? This is surely worth going out of your way to find.

Excellent lunch sets

By Stephen W |

Very good value lunch sets. Particularly recommend soup with pork belly but if you like Korean food everything is good.

Well-appointed Korean restaurant with good fare

By ivylneh |

This was a well-appointed Korean with a comfortable contemporary décor. We had the bulgogi - broth was rich but beef was ok. We had a noodle dish that was tasty. I've had a greater number of small dish accompaniments at other restaurants but these tasted good. I'd come back to try the other dishes.

Favorite Korean Place, Hands Down

By mdee0210 |

I honestly don’t remember how I found out about Five Senses, but I’m sure glad that I did. I’ve only been here twice, but that’s only because I don’t live in the city. If I did, I would probably go there multiple times a week. The first time I went, there was a huge line out the the door and down the block, but it moves pretty quickly. Just the way they handled the high volume of people waiting was amazing in itself. The place is pretty big for a restaurant in NYC. Cute decor, great ambience, and attentive staff. Every single item that I have had here was so delicious. And the best part is that everything comes out quick! This place really knows what they’re doing from service in the front, to production in the back. I’d go into detail about the items that I chose, but no matter what you order, you won’t be disappointed. It’s located in the very busy K- town, so parking before seven is near impossible. So plan accordingly. If you have time to shop around, there are so many other great Korean establishments in walking distance too. So, if you’re looking for a place to get great Korean food, FIVE SENSES is your place!

Best Korean Food Since I Lived There!

By Maggie H |

This place is great! They don’t take reservations so get there early, like by 6 for dinner. I don’t know how they do it but the service is remarkably fast with no compromise of taste. Bulgogi was my favorite. At our table the shrimp mandu as well as chicken & vegetarian sizzling stone rice dishes were all excellent.

delicious foods

By gugongee |

As a Korean, the tastes of the Korean foods out of Korea are different from that in Korea. But this restaurant offers almost same tastes. At dinner, it was so crowded. Staffs were kind. But there were little space among the tables.

Nice Lunch

By Zoe |

The chicken soup was good for the soul. They serve a bunch of little dishes before your food come. the amount serve is plenty for two.

Very good - a lot of meat. Costly.

By FloridaFamilyofFive |

I had the pork belly which was excellent. The spicy ramen was good but not great. Prices are excessively high. Service is mediocre.

Delicious lunch

By mokar1987 |

Visited with a friend and her family. She knew the chef and owner so we had of course great food and service. Have never had Korean food and had a sample of all of the traditional dishes. Short ribs were amazing, a fish stew with shrimp, crab, clams and more was also delicious. Dumplings wonderful!! Everything was great!!

Good but...

By Private_Life |

The food is really good - But... there is a bit .. the only issue is the music - so loud and unpleasant you can not even imagine. Impossible to talk to the people sitting next to you - simply do not hear them. Staff is fast but apparently management representatives are to full of themselves and tend to look at customers from above down. Could be a very nice place .. but attitude does matter and does make a difference

Great atmosphere, great food

By Lauren |

I came here with my parents after being ignored at BCD Tofu House and everyone was really nice and welcoming. The food was great, big portion sizes and fairly priced. Will definitely come back!

Great food average price

By Tiffany X |

I ordered 닭토리 탕(can't remember its English name) and it also comes in with a bowl of rice. It is very yummy and you can really taste that the flavor is in the chicken itself. And there are 6 pieces of chicken, which is pretty reasonable for a $17 entree. The side dishes are very different from what I had back in Madison so I didn't try a lot but they look good as well.

Food good but not excellent, expensive, and service is so-so

By BHUANG69 |

Came here to have lunch with friends. Two of us arrived first and asked for a table. The host informed us to wait until everyone gets there. I don't mind that but I just think the host can be a little friendlier when he said that. The food was not bad. It's pleasant, but not excellent. I also think the price is high. When we were done eating, the busboy cleared everything, including our water glasses. We were still discussing where to go next and we felt that the restaurant was kicking us out.

Even experienced Korean food foodies will love

By j z |

I've had some good Korean food in my day but this was at least in the top two. Modern take on traditional tastes (subtle and memorable). Place was packed with a line out the door - but it is lunchtime in NYC...so that's natural. Difficult to seat a family of four (as there were mostly two-top tables) so we had a longer wait then most. Speedy service. I GUESS moderately priced...again NYC.

Great food worth the long wait!

By shossain6 |

The wait can be long and it is ridiculous when they make you stand in line by the bathroom. But once the food came it made up for the wait. The Galbi, Bulgogi and seafood stirfry was delicious. One thing you do feel a little rushed because they want to turn tables fast. We were also asked if we were ready to order when we were standing in line, i mean we haven't even had a chance to open the menu.

Great Korean restaurant for lunch.

By SilverFlight168 |

I came here with a friend for a late lunch and the place was still crowded. We got ourselves a first-day waitress who mistook our order but was very apologetic when we told here that she served us the wrong dishes. The food was delicious and very Korean. There were a lot of local and tourists Koreans which could tell how authentic the food was. The place itself was big enough and the space was very functional.

Try the kimchi fried rice

By Zee |

I love this place! The Kimchi fried rice is addictive. Let it sit a little and go for the crispy edges! I was a little nervous about the cheese the first time I had it, somehow I didn’t think it would work, but it’s delicious. I haven’t tried too many things here because I love the kimchi fried rice, but we had various dishes at our table last time, everyone enjoyed their food and it all looked delicious. Also, although there is often a wait, they are very efficient and I find that the line moves quickly.

Delicious Korean food!

By lynnb24 |

What an introduction to Korean Food! We absolutely loved it. Delicious rice, noodle and ramen dishes with so many accompaniments. Lovely Korean beer too. Kids loved the experience of the sizzling plates. Food was fresh and delicious. Would definitely recommend

Delicious

By Piera G |

Visited on a Friday evening at around 9pm. There was a longish queue but it moved quickly and we were seated fast enough. We were able to look at the menu while we waited also. The food wasn't very expensive. I had vegetable noodles which cost around $9/10. We also had kimchi. The service of the food was fast and it was well presented despite being very busy. Staff were kind and efficient.

Not great but very good

By Huck K |

The specials of the day included ox tail gom tang and yook gye jang. I ordered the yook gye jang which is a hot and spicy beef broth soup containing various vegetables and shredded beef. It was good, as was the banchan selection. The service was excellent from the time I entered the restaurant. I'd come here again when I'm in Manhattan.

A great discovery in Koreantown

By ralfcanada |

Top address in Koreantown, I chose a beef dish, hearty and very tasty, my companion a delicious noodle dish. The accompaniments at the table, a real discovery. We loved this typical restaurant. Efficient service and cuisine that deserves to be discovered.

Good Korean Food

By BenNew92 |

Really enjoyed this modern-style restaurant in Korea Town. Service was quick although not the friendliest we received in the city. The food was great. I had a rice dish with kimchi and beef which was served on a hot skillet with an egg poured on top at the table ($17.99). As others' photos show, the dishes are served with an array of tasty nibbles, although I would have liked an explanation of what we'd been given (I could work out kimchi and black beans but it would have been nice to know more). Very reasonable prices ($100 for four people) and cheap beer ($5). Overall a good experience.

pretty big portion...ok taste

By MK330 |

We had the spicy black cod soup and grilled mackerel fish. Big portions, ok taste. Service was a bit hurried, even though there was pretty of empty tables.....

Good food, good ambience

By sandraregina |

Food was very good. Good drinks. Many people, but quickly attendants. will be back. Great Korean food.

Great Korean Food

By SUBZEROSKIDD10 |

A friend took me here while I was visiting the city because she said it was one of her favorite Korean BBQ places. We both got the beef bibinbop and it was so tasty. They kept refilling our banchan and between those and our bibinbop we had more than enough to eat. This must be one of the more popular places in Korea Town because the restaurant was packed even in the middle of a weekday. The prices weren’t too bad, the service was okay, and the food was flavorful. I would definitely go again.

Good food in not the best setting..

By Cece D |

First let me say, you go here to enjoy the food, not the ambiance. It’s noisy, there is very little service (silent servers who are clearly focused on speed rather than curtesy) but nice nevertheless ! Food is really great - portions are good - presentation is also great. Tip - try not to sit near the door.. a line out the door meant we got a super cold draft every few minutes!!

Lunch with friends

By lydiah3121 |

Visited with friends for lunch and luckily made it right before the lunch menu pricing ended. I always find Korean food a little overpriced, so the lunch pricing was nice. I got an octopus dish with rice which was really good.

A must visit Restaurant

By natlove007 |

If you are in NYC you must visit Five Senses in Korea town! The Food is Amazing. The experience was very good. The food is delicious! We ordered a rice, seafood Kamichi lunch special. It came with a lot of different side vegetables and the main dish in a hot pot. They added the egg to the dish and completed the preparation at your table. The best food I've had in a very long time. Can't wait to try something new there.

First Korean food!

By Koltrip |

Stopped by this place for first Korean food experience. It was great! Great service, the order was delivered fast and the gave us 6-7 small dishes for free as starters. Really big portions as well!

Fantastic

By lesm68 |

Weeent here on our first night in NY. We had to queue for a while but it was worth it, the food is amazing! Can’t wait to visit again.

Well worth the wait

By Finsandra |

We got there to a line out the door and it was cold. Glad we stuck it out. We didn't know much about Korean food--staff was very helpful and we liked everything we ordered It is very noisy! So many languages. A nice experience

Excellent Korean Food

By Donald K |

This was one of the best I've had in the US. We had the spicy pork - excellent, the bibimpap, and the mackerel fish with dwenjjang chi gae - all excellent. They have Korean beers, one domestic, and everything you could want. The whole staff works together to get whatever you need.

A great mistake.

By pepelevoo |

So there used to be another Korean place in this space. The interior is upgraded. The menu has shrunk. But the food is super good and well made.

Great food fast service but very loud

By Venust |

My friends and I went to this place for lunch after a waking up early and waiting in line to be an audience of “The View”. We waited for a while because we were a group of 3 — an odd number. We ordered seafood pancake, very chewy, maybe because of the squid and too oily. Then we ordered dduk mandoo gook from the lunch special which is homemade beef dumpling and rice cake in a beef broth soup; bebim bap which is rice topped with a medley of vegetables along with a special house sauce; and a spicy noddle. The soup was good. I like the homemade dumplings. I don’t like anything spicy, so I did not try the noodles. Three of us shared these orders and had a fun lunch conversations. They also served us with barley tea, which we asked for more. This place is very compact, so decibel level of noise was so high. Everyone seemed so loud. That turned me off. Maybe between lunch and dinner is quieter??? Who knows?

Great Korean

By Caroline L |

We've been here twice for dinner during the week and food quality is definitely there. Every dish we've had so far has been tasty. Service here is prompt, friendly and it gets really busy but turnover is quick. Any waiter will help you with food, drinks and the check so everything moves a lot quicker than most. *seafood pajun: tasty app to get, your usual expectations with a good amount of tender seafood *soondubu jigae (seafood): tasty, good amount of seafood and of course the usual egg to crack in *nak ji bokum (spicy octopus): really nice kick to this, tender octopus and nice chewy udon noodles and sauteed veggies *mool naeng myun (buckwheat noodles in cold beef broth): this is hubs fave and most places only have this seasonally so definitely a plus they have this on their regular menu :) *ogam extra crispy chicken wings: these were tasty but seemed heavy on the soy in the marinade and didnt have much kick from the peppers but the meat was juicy *dol sot bi bim bap: our first time here, 2 people at our table got this and it came out on the flat sizzling platter instead of the hot stone bowl but one had hers mixed tableside by the waiter while the other was left to her own devices haha both did say their dishes were tasty The only drawback here is single restrooms for ladies and men so you're left waiting...

Bland meal

By Alan L |

Ordered their signature dish kimchi fried rice w mozzarella cheese & egg done tableside and a seafood soon dubu. Both dishes lack flavour. The fried rice looked awesome but needed quite a bit of additional chilli paste for taste, if not it's really bland. The seafood soon dubu which is spicy tofu soup also lacked flavour, very watered down, not robust enough. Compare that with nxt door BCD house's soon dubu which is rich & full of flavour this version is very weak.

Great Korean Food

By hendricksblair123 |

I had never had Korean food before and this was an excellent introduction. The food was delicious and there were a lot of things to try. The staff was very friendly. This place can get crowded, so either be prepared to wait for a little or maybe consider reserving a table. Servings can be big. I had a monkfish and seafood soup and it was outstanding but the bowl was huge! A group of 3 of us split an appetizer and it was plenty. Amazing place I’m glad I came!

Order the Galbi

By A E |

Extremely fast service. Despite waiting in a long queue we were seated fairly quickly, and once we ordered the food it was out quick. We had Bulgogi, Galbi, and Bibimbap. As far as Korean food goes the Galbi was exceptional, and overall very good food. We visited this resto twice during our NYC trip, and was it consistent both times. Definitely a good spot to eat great food, and quickly get on with your day.

Great intro to Korean food, fun atmosphere

By Peg B |

My first time having Korean food; the Bi BIm Bap was fabulous. The house manager was a real pro - on a busy Saturday night he had people in and out without feeling rushed. Most tables are tight together, with movable greenery forming dividers between dining parties. Made it rather fun, people watching (to the couple on their first date to my right, I hope you have a second date, you made a cute couple!)

Excellent spin on Korean dishes

By Socal4mich |

My wife and I eat Korean food often (she is Korean). We have eaten in many Korean restaurants in Los Angeles (home town). We ran into Five Senses a bit randomly as we were walking through what looked like a mini K-Town street here in New York. The service was very fast and the food was excellent. The dishes were similar to the dishes we get in LA but had their own spin to them. A very good spin. The cost was in line with what we expect to spend. I would definitely recommend the First Senses.

great cast iron dishes

By Travel Addict |

I love spicy food especially fried rice on the cast iron. Because I can enjoy scraping up and eat up the very delucious crust of overcooked rice. The smell of roasted rice and vegetables on the cast iron is so good that I have to salivate and can't wait to eat it. Superdelucious!

Great!

very good restaurant that I can only recommend! We tasted the Korean beef barbecue! a treat and very hearty!

We so enjoyed it!

By Olesya D |

This restaurant was about few doors from our hotel and we always saw queues when passing it by in the evening. So we were determined to go, since it was our second stay in NY in Korea Town and we already tried other places. We actually rushed there at 6 pm after our long day to get a table. My 16-year old daughter, already a good cook, was dying to try authentic Korean cuisine. I admit that we ordered a bit too much because we wanted to try everything. My oyster soup was absolutely delicios and was served sizzling. My family also ordered soups and then we ordered three main courses (meat with noodles, fried chicken wings and fried pork) which we shared. I apologize to the restaurant that I cannot give exact names of the dishes we ordered. Everything was very tasty. We had a lot of leftovers and they were very carefully packed for us to take home. They actually made a full lunch next day. The service was immaculate and very attentive. However, given the popularity of the place, we saw people queuing inside the place and later outside in the steet. Having noticed that we almost finished our meal, the staff produced us with the check. Obviously, this is not the place where you can hang out for hours. But the food is worth any other incovenience. For the understanding for foreign tourists, not familiar with the US tipping culture, the check indicates the suggested tip rates and it's up to you to follow the proposed percentage.

Good Korean Restaurant

Seafood Tofu soup is excellent. Barbecue shortrib is very good but a bit pricey at $35. Service is good and waiting staffs are friendly. Would recommend this restaurant highly.

A gem in Korea Town!

By Susan D |

Lunch at Five Senses in New York City's Korea town yesterday was delightful! Although it looked packed from the outside, our group of three were seated immediately. We got several appetizers so they were easy to share. Scalian pancake and short beef ribs were the best - highly recommended. Service was prompt, polite and friendly. Reasonable prices for mid-town Manhattan. Definitely going back!

Great and authentic Korean food

Go To Korean Resturant

By Jon0008 |

We visited this restaurant in the cold rain with a party of seven people. This restaurant has a great atmosphere and friendly staff. We started with beers, Sochu and kimchi with pork belly soup, delicious. Then kimchi and seafood pancakes, galbi, bulgogi, grilled vegetables and a number of side dishes. All delicious. Only regret, we didn’t try everything on the menu. With a group you may have to wait a bit to sit together. They’ll also give you 5% discount if you pay cash. We’ll be back.

Rudeness rules overall

By Linn |

I love a restaurant when we are treated like customers and paid attention. When there is a busy crowd, I totally get it when the waiters/waitresses cannot give proper attention but we are entitled to ask. The waitresses in this place are extremely rude. When we sat at the table, we were served with iced water. Since the meals were spicy, we asked for refill, however, we were ignored for like a long time. Only after we finished our meals, they refilled the glass because it’s pretty obvious that it’s about billing time. The best part was when we were given the bill, I was taken aback by the sheer audacity of the waitress when she plainly pointed out that the tips must be given 15% minimum. I was like WTH. Is it a tip or robbery? So I’m not gonna give credits to the taste of meals or anything. I am never ever gonna go there again.

Five Senses is first~rate

By R S |

I dined here after midnight January 2. As in, it had been New Years Day, and I entered the place after midnight and thus it was already January 2. The kitchen was open to 1 a.m. Even at this late night on a holiday, the service and kitchen showed no signs to slow down. Food again was excellent and robustly flavoured. Place was crowded. Definitely my go to Korean place in NYC. A consistent 5/5 score for great food, speedy / gracious service, and Asian ambiance.

Delicious

By Sumy D |

Amazing food. Kimchi Fried rice is the best!!! You can also try the Korean soju here. Nice small place. Sometimes there is big queue to get seated, but well worth the wait!

Fairly good food, great location

By Mousers |

The menu has a lot of choices. Price is reasonable. It is situated in the heart of Korean town in NYC.

Great food!

By Asha T |

This place is SO BOMB! I came here with my friend for lunch on Sunday and it was not so busy, surprisingly. We got the kimchi jigae and ttokbokki with seafood. Both was super tasty. They were very generous with the meat and seafood in both of our dishes. Everything was very well-seasoned, spicy, but not too much. I didn't get to try their famous kimchi fried rice so I will definitely come back!

Excellent in K-Town

By HolliWestDover_VT |

My daughter LOVES Korean cuisine and has tried several K-town restaurants. Five Senses was a first taste for both of us. Great choice. It was bustling on a Thursday afternoon with a short waiting line throughout out meal. My daughter was pleased to be commended on her pronunciation by our waitress. The usual sides were placed on our table as we checked out the menu. All tasty. My daughter ordered Yook Gae Jang, a spicy beef soup. I tasted the broth, which was flavorful with a spice back- nothing overwhelming- just a hearty soup with lots of depth. I had Dol Pan Nakji Dup Bap- Baby Octopus and vegetables with rice. This arrived on a sizzling plate which kept the dish hot for some time. The octopus was a bit chewy as expected and the vegetables included unexpected brussel sprouts. The rice underneath fused to the sizzling plate forming almost a rice cake. Over all was chopped leaf lettuce adding that hot- cold/ spicy- bland dichotomy special to much Asian cuisine. I loved it! I wasn't ready for Soju at lunch, but may try some on the next trip. I can highly recommend Five Senses.

Korean Restaurant with Cool Atmosphere

By Carole N |

We went there for a family and enjoyed all the dishes. While they were authentic Korean dishes, they were served with a unique twist. Nice atmosphere and not smoky like many Korean restaurants! They had this beautiful long table where they separated customers by using small flower vases - very cool.

Great place for a meal after a long night...

By Saysum |

After a night of going out, my friends and I were in the mood for korean food (specifically soup). The funny thing was that we were recommended the adjacent restaurant, and mistook this place for it. We saw a line out the door and assumed this was the place. The restaurant is small but definitely bustling. The wait for a party of 8 was 30 mins or so. They will ask your party to come in and stand in the back of the restaurant (near the bathrooms) until your table is ready. We were split into 2 groups (no big deal). Ambiance: A typical mom and pop korean restaurant. Tables are close together. Not good for big parties unless you don't mind sitting separately. Service: Fair, considering it is a korean restaurant. We had to flag someone down to place our order. They spoke and understood english. I flagged someone down for water. Food came out at a decent pace, but not all at once. Food: They had a wide variety of korean dishes. We opted to try the kimchi fried rice. Cool thing is that they mix it table side on a hot plate. They also add cheese. I thought the rice was really good. Loved the burnt crispy rice at the bottom. Great flavor. I got the galbi tang (beef rib soup). IT was really good. Nice flavor and the meat was soft and tender. You have to ask for the sauce (soy sauce with mustard). That took it to another level. They give you a fair amount of banchan to go with it. The soup really hit the spot. I would come again.

Great food and service but noisy at night

By Khac-Quan N |

Great food and service. Just a little bit crazy at night, kind of noisy and crowded. Oh well it's right in the heart of K town on a Saturday night. Try their Ogam spicy fresh ramen noodle, it's one of the best. Believe me, I tried so many Korean restaurants in California and none of them has this great taste. Oh and if you pay cash, they will give you 5% off, that's pretty cool ;)

First experience of Korean food - very Impressed

By jacksparr0w |

Food was delicious with good sized portions. Tried Koran raspberry wine which was very nice too. Excellent service. Try it you won't be disappointed.

The best korean food ever

By Kura-kura77 |

Honestly, we havent been to Korea, but we tried many korean foods in many countries and the best we have ever had is the one in Fove Senses NYC. The appetizer are generous and superb, kimchi is super tasty, we ordered the Jumok Bokum, the BEST!! And all other stuffs are also phenomenal for korean fooda (seafood pancake, korean fried rice, etc). You have to come and eat here if you are in NYC and love Korean foods. I wish other korean restaurants in the place I live in, have similar level of taste like Five Senses.

Good food

By Bruna C |

Good food and service. Typical Korean restaurant . Lots of people going there . Menu in English Korean and Chinese

Delicious and spicy

By Kateryna Rozlach |

The only one place in the Korean neighborhood which always has a queue on the front door which is a good sign 👌🏿 food - delicious, prices - affordable. Take the Korean beer Hite - so nice!

Best Korean Restaurant in NYC

By Friday |

Delightful every time we stopped by this restaurant - best Korean food in town! Braised seafood with snow crab and other shellfish was soooo gooood! Other dishes like kimchi bibimbap, kimchi fried rice or seafood pancake were delicious! Service was good! The line was really long so you need some patience or don’t come at lunch or dinner time! Highly recommend this restaurant!

A good Korean restaurant

By Pat2012NJ |

We saw a line at the door of the restaurant and thought it had to be good, so we got in the line and had a quick supper there. The service was quick and the food was delicious; the price was also reasonable. We'll definitely go back again.

Kimchi squared

By Venneper |

Although the "Korean Way" in NYC has the reputation for being a tourist destination with poor to average food paired with abhorrent service, Five Senses seemed to be a place where the local Koreans would gather for lunch. The crispy seafood pancake had good fillings. The kimchi 볶음밥 (fried rice) was absolutely delicious. Service was pushy Korean-style (to which I am immune after having visited several Korean restaurants), but not unfriendly. The bill for two persons came close to 60 USD. The place to go on West 32nd Street to enjoy Korean food in general and kimchi in particular.

delicious Korean food in Koreatown

By Ddan7777 |

Despite having grown up in N.Y.C., I was not personally familiar with Koreatown. I had uncovered it by accident on a previous trip to N.Y.C. Anyhow, I gave this Korean restaurant a try, it was very good. I had ordered the bibimbap made with tofu. Before they served the main course, they brought out an assortment of Korean appetizers. One of the supervisors came over to explain what each dish was, very helpful. One of the appetizers was kimchi. My bibimbap was delicious, served on a hot plate. The same supervisor brought over a red plastic container which had hot sauce in order to spice up my entree. I tried a tiny amount on my bibimbap, it was hot but not overly spicy. Prices are moderate. The only small negative about this restaurant was that they have slightly different prices depending on the method of payment: you pay more (3.5% surcharge) if you use your credit card. I found this odd at this point in time.

Great late night place to get your fix of Korean but the bus boy was a perv

By Justin H |

Nice atmosphere and a great eatery to get your fix of Korean food. Very authentic. I would go back but next time without my daughter. The bus boy was blatantly trying to look down my daughter's shirt and jeans. I stared him down and he quickly disappeared and avoided our table. In hindsight I should have called him out to the manager...

To discover absolutely

By CD |

Very nice discovery thanks to Trip Advisor! Passing through the neighborhood with family, we opened the door of this small restaurant in Korean Town. Excellent welcome and service, very tasty food and fair prices. I recommend without hesitation

Kimchi fried rice is the best!

By Chu_Sam23 |

I had kimchi fried rice and the army stew. The kimchi fried rice came on a hot stone plate with some mozzarella cheese, which the service staff would mix together with the rice. Portions were big and good enough for 2. However, thought service could be improved. The service staff was eager to chase you out the minute you finish your main dishes. Should give diners some time to wait for the food to settle, chat with friends before chasing them out.

Decent 24 hr Korean

By Shannon L |

As far as Korean goes, this one was pretty decent. We had a variety of typical Korean dishes, from BBQ Galbi, to tofu soup to bibimbap and cold noodles. Everything was tasty, but nothing spectacular expect the BBQ was quite good.

Great place for lunch

By 2MilesforaCookie |

Many options to choose from, friendly staff (limited English but menu is well described). Quick and efficient with food arriving in a few minutes. Well seasoned and tasty food

A truly humbly satisfied customer

went with my school mate whom I met after 10 years brought me there and I could not complain much. the ambience and food quality were just impeccable. Will definitely go through whenever I get a chance to visit New York again.

Yummy Korean comfort food edition

By NikaNumber1 |

We only had to wait about 7 minutes or so to be seated. It’s always a good sign when the restaurant is mostly filled with Asian patrons. It looked legit. We ordered the recommended signature dish, the kimchi fried rice with chicken; they added the egg and mozzarella cheese on the hot cast iron grill pan after it was brought to our table in a formed dome intact, it was in a round flat skillet pan. Same cast iron pot material used for the dolsot bibimbap. We also had the seafood tteok bokki, it had shrimp, scallops, clams and calamari and mozzarella again. I felt there was a bit too much cheese on everything for me and the tteok bokki was way too sweet and not enough spice for me, but still tasty. The kimchi and scallion pancake was chewy and crispy all at the same time and was the best I have had so far, it was delicious too. The banchans were kimchi, potato and apple salad, broccoli, octopus, garlic stems and squash. I liked all of the banchans except for the octopus. The food overall was really good. I would come back for the fried rice and the kimchi and scallion pajeon for sure. I would like to try out the soondubu jjigae stew with kimchi the next time I am here.

Korean food - and the best of

By JGranborg |

Visiting NY eating asian food - this is one of the best in its class. Filled with people - but worth all the waiting.

Amazing Korean food and service

By Phil H |

I ordered a meal called "fire chicken" where a great big sizzling plate of chicken filets is brought to your table and the filets are cut up into bite-size pieces by the waiter. There are various side dishes which are brought before the main course consisting mostly of cold vegetable appetizers. The chicken comes with rice and is excellent.

I am a satisfied customer

By Singaporetourist78 |

Decided to give this Korean restaurant-Five senses a try. It is bigger than the other two similar korean restaurants that I have tried on the same street. The restaurant deco is mainly wood but it is bright and homely. I discovered most of the customers are female asians. As there is a lunch promotion till 3pm, I ordered the spicy seafood tofu soup. I was shocked when I discovered there is a scallop in the soup! I love scallops! Yummy! For $14, it is really a good deal. Quality korean food at reasonable price.

Bring your appetite!

By AyenNYC |

Happened to pass by this place in Ktown and decided to give it a try especially since we saw a long line of patrons waiting to be seated. Our curiosity got the best of us but no regrets. The food was seriously unforgettable; delicious, freshly-prepared Korean food and biiigg servings! also love that their service is quick-just how New Yorkers like it 👍🏻 will be back soon!

Great food but super loud

By bethanynd |

We stumbled upon this gem after having second thoughts while waiting at a neighboring restaurant (they had a low inspection score). What a pleasant surprise. We ordered a beef dumpling appetizer, kimchi fried rice w/ chicken and a short-rib soup w/ dumplings & rice cakes. All were excellent. The service was fast but a bit impersonal. It was difficult to carry on much conversation because there is nowhere for the sound to go in this crowded space. The food is worth the noise and service is fast so you can get it in out before it wracks your nerves too much.

Talk about perfection...

By AnaAndBellasMom |

My very picky daughter loved it. We had galbi and hae mool dae gae jeongol (hot pot - casserole). The line out door may spook you away, but the turn around is very quick!

Yummy

By Hosung J |

Again another lovely Korean restaurant. Food was delicious! I cannot find any fault. I would deffo visit again when I am in NYC next time.

really bad service with very rude people! avoid!

By 123porCris |

I went there with my boyfriend and his friend, the waitress forgot to take my order , so when it came to serving the dishes of course mine was not it, but this was not the worst thing, the worst thing was that my boyfriend and I finished eating but his friend did not because the food was Very spicy, the one of the waiter put the check close to us while our friend was still eating, 10 minutes later the same waiter took the check and threw it at us and he scream: the check! It was very Terrible, uncomfortable and Very disrespectful! our friend even couldnt finish her food. I certainly do not recommend it. really rude people!

Simply marvellous

By WishTraveller |

We had spent a whole day walking around NYC and were tired and hungry. Looking at the long line in front of Five Senses, we told ourselves - this must be a great place. So we queued up and we were so glad we did! The place was packed with little space in between the tables and that added to the charm of the place. Service was fast, friendly and the food blew our minds. The flavours danced on our tongues and the banchan delighted our senses. We loved the kimchi fried rice! We went home with happy tummies. Thank you, Five Senses!

Great food in a noisy room

By Flyingred |

Having spent time in Seoul a few weeks ago we were looking forward to eating out in Koreatown. Five Senses didn't disappoint. We arrived shortly after 5 pm so were seated right away. The servers greet arriving diners loudly (over the loud K-pop playing in the room) and we noticed that most of the other diners were Korean or Asian. Service was efficient and our bibimbaps were really tasty and enjoyable. We thought it good value for money.

Very good inexpensive Korean. Food

By Allan S |

Came here for a pre basketball dinner and found the food quite good. They had kimchi fried rice(really. Good and different) very thick kim chi pancakes with more heft than other places Plus prices were lower than comparable spots. The difference is you do not cook fir yourself and the small smorgasbord of accompanying Items was sparser but you get through your meal quicker. People are pleasant as well and it is good value.

Wonderful food

By Simon G |

This place in is the Korean district. You can forget about clever service since it is a relatively fast food operation and the chances are that you'll have to queue outside before getting a table. In 5 nights we ate there twice because the food was superb. We were not rushed. We had a glass of wine each so the bill was c. $120.

Really good but way too busy

By Yjyj2 |

The food was really good but it is so busy that you feel pressured to leave asap. I ate and left immediately. I guess it's good for the business!

Korean Restaurant

By sostrovski |

Great Korean restaurant. Food is great and waitstaff is very professional. Portions are large. Beef Soup and Fried Calamari salad were superb. Chicken wings were mediocre and for me over salted. We highly recommend this place.

Amazing seafood hot pot!!

By furballina |

We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner here. Had to queue even though it was 9.30pm. The seafood hot pot which consists of snow crabs, scallops, mussels, big clams, tteokbokki is super delicious! The portion is hugeee that the 4 of us had a hard time finishing it. We also had the kimchiw fried enjoy which was enjoyable. Would highly recommend to try out this place.

Great food!

By MauiPlease |

If you like Korean food, this is the place to go. They don't offer as much of the traditional comp. appetizer plates as other places but their food is really good. Filled with great ingredients. We had the seafood noodles. Had so much octopus (my favorite) so they easily win me over. Only reason why I don't give 5 stars is because the food isn't of 5 star standards. Decent service, but nothing above average. Would highly recommend.

Good taste!

By LadyPui |

Taste was great. I ordered kimchi stew with pork belly and i love it. Food was fresh. There are many choices. Reasonable price. Don’t expect about their service 🙄. Just enjoy Korean food in front of you.

A restaurant that surprised us with delicious food. A celebration for all the senses

By gilad k |

A restaurant that surprised us with delicious food. A celebration for all the senses. The dishes are colorful, large and delicious (and spicy)). Excellent service by the waiters מסעדה שהפתיעה אותנו באוכל טעים. חגיגה לכל החושים. המנות צבעוניות, גדולות וטעימות (וחריפות)). שרות מצויין של המלצרים
