Amazing food

By PaulBirtles |

Well worth taking a trip from central Manhattan, the food is amazing and cooked at your table by brilliant chefs, catching bits of food and drinking the stream of saki fired at you by the chef is all part of great entertainment

Excellent service and great food

Tony is a great host and maintains a friendly atmosphere at the bar. The food is very good and there is a great range of drinks available. Quite lively.

Interactive Dining with Fabulous Food

By TracieB |

Our families favourite way to dine is Japanese Tepenyaki so on our latest visit to NYC we decided to find one to visit. We found Flame Hibachi on Trip Advisor and booked in. A short trip Downtown to Greenwich Village which we love, the restaurant was decorated with a modern feel. We sat at our table and had a chef to ourselves as there were two bigger parties in there. The menu had a great selection of meats and fish. Our chef was entertaining and very interactive which is all part of the experience. The food was so good and the portions were huge. Very very good if you enjoy dining this way.

Amazing

The food was amazing and the atmosphere was great. We ordered directly from the kitchen instead of Hibachi. The shrimp fried rice was great. Pork dumpling, amazing! The shrimp were huge! My husband ordered the Hibachi steak and shrimp from the kitchen and he loved it. The seating downstairs was small but otherwise, great place!

Must try......

Not so great

I just left Flame and I'm very disappointed, we had a reservation for 8pm but it was changed without my approval to 7.30pm. The hostess blamed Yelp, but I don't know. She gave us a round of drinks for free as compensation, but considering we missed the whole hibachi experience because of this it didn't do much to improve our mood. They fixed us a table in the standard seating area, strangely though, the hibachi food cost the same even without the show. We ordered dim sum as starters and hibachi mains, the mains arrived before the starters, which is unacceptable. When I pointed this out, they got us our missing starters immediately, but made no attempt to apologize. The hibachi cost twice as much as any ordinary main, but is very little food with very little flavor. I would've put two stars only, but decided on setting three stars because the hostess took a round of drinks off our bill. This place is probably good if you get to experience the hibachi cooking, but paying the same for subpar food is not what I'd expect or recommend.

Our Chef Put On A Fine Show

By Bob K |

Our party of 10 occupied a table on the 2nd floor of this happy eatery. it was 3 PM and we had the room to ourselves. We ordered from the well thought out menu. Then discovered that Happy Hour was celebrated from Noon til 7 PM, even table side as opposed to bar only. Oh happy days! Our Chef was professional and funny. The food tasted fresh and was prepared to order in front of our eyes...a very enjoyable repast whether you are a carnivore or vegetarian. We'd definitely go back.

Yum but a bit rushed....

The food was delicious and the chef was hilarious but they certainly don’t waste time getting you in and out. We arrived 10 minutes early and when asked to order food we requested a couple more minutes to look at the menu only to be promptly told we must order immediately. Takes away from a pleasurable dining experience when they remove everything, slap the bill down and start cleaning around you the second you finish! But that’s the nature of the beast I guess- time is money. Apart from that a very delicious and entertaining meal!

Good, fun and great all around!

I must first say that this Flame location is more in Kips Bay than Downtown....onto my review. First time here. Hibachi tables are upstairs. Chef was a lot of fun and created great atmosphere. We had the lobster, sirloin, scallops, red snapper and filet mignon ...very good. Drinks were buy-1-get-1-free. Great for parties and celebrations.

You'll want to come back!

A night out with some friends at Flame will be totally worth it. The food is great, sake flowing and, most importantly, just a great hibachi night. The chef brings in tons of energy to make your night special. TIP: Ask for the private room at the top of the restaurant to have an even more special occasion.

Dinner with Friends

By Putock |

Attended this restaurant with my wife and 3 friends. Shared a table with 8 others. Entertainment and food very good, as was the service. any dietary requirements are catered for. Value for money - ok. We had a private table in a private area. Had shrimp and chicken which was amazing. The experience was over far too quickly is my only feedback!!

Food Quality Not Good, Poor Reception, Cramped Table Space

By Michael Z |

The only good thing about Flame Hibachi is the "A" rating grade from the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene - posted on the restaurant's front window. We reserved a table for three, Friday afternoon at 1:00 pm on November 8th, 2019. The reception was cold & unprofessional as we were handed a menu ands escorted to our downstairs table in a cramped space with two other tables.  The music was loud & not a soft music more suitable for dining. The lunch specials are inexpensive but the Hibachi Free Range Chicken was not juicy, soft & tender.  It was on the chewy side. The Hibachi Shrimp was average.  So, we understood for a Friday afternoon at lunch hours why there were only two couples in the restaurant.  That speaks for itself - not popular.  This was a disappointing dining experience we won't repeat at Flame Hibachi Downtown.

HABACHI

This is a very nice location for a small group. Our "flame thrower" LOL was very funny and entertaining. Nice size portions of food for the price (25+)

First time and we will definitely come back

We never had Hibachi before but visited this restaurant and it was amazing. The chef was making a great show and it was not only fascinating to see but also very delicious. We had the combination of beef and shrimp as well as chicken and shrimp. We were lucky and came before 7pm when it was still Happy Hour for drinks ! I would definitely recommend to make a reservation though as it can get busy.

You have to try the Sushi!

We have been visiting for a while; great welcome and excellent food. They have just taken this to another level. Flame now does Sushi and probably the best sushi we have had in NYC.

A Fun TIme

By Paul D |

We went to Flame for a birthday party for an 11 year old. We had a great time. Like all Hibachi places, the chefs were entertaining but Flame included Japanese drinking games into the fun which put us all in an even better mood (except the kids) and added a new dimension. The food was good and typical. The service was very attentive and friendly.

Good atmosphere, nice show

Enjoyed my first visit here with friends. Was an impressive show and very engaging with the chef and fellow table customers.

Great food and service!

We decided to have dinner in the city and I have been wanting to try this restaurant for a while. I am a big fan of hibachi style and they didn't disappoint. I will return and recommend it to my friends.

Such a fun way to eat!

Came here for a birthday dinner with friends and had the most amazing night! We had hibatchi with a group of ten people around our grill. Pur chef made everyone feel welcome and got us all talking to each other which was great. He put on an amazing show with great fire and juggling skills and was more than generous with the sake! What surprised me most however was when he left to allow us to eat how amazing the food actually tasted. I had sirloin steak and chicken and it was by far the best meal I ate in new York. I've been recommending it to everyone I know ever since!

cute and fun eating for families and groups

By seanworc |

Went here for dinner with a large group. Great for kids and families. Cuisine is causal hibachi, meaning beef, chicken, and vegetables. A chef comes out and performs like an actor. He/she grills all the food and serves it to the guests. Lots of glowing flames and banter. Not fine dining, but fun.

Amazing show, great food

We booked this restaurant to enjoy the show cocking experience and were extremely happy. Our cock Alex was very entertaining and skilled. Food was delicious and this restaurant is highly recommended

Dinner and a show!

By 125troya |

Flame hibachi was a great dining experience in NYC. The staff for the most part were very friendly and courteous. The menu has lots of options for meat and fish and everything is prepared on the grill at your table. The chef was comical and entertaining and also prepared a great meal. Overall a great experience! One caveat that I will mention, is that your clothes will likely take on the smell of the smoke/cooking, so plan accordingly or leave your jacket downstairs.

Good stuff

Great time. Good food, great cooking chefs, good drinks. Prices for Hibachi table cooking are great for NYC! Definitely recommended for couples to small groups. We will definitely return, and you SHOULD go. Soon.

First experience with Hibachi

What a show! This was my first time going to Hibachi. The food was great and the wait staff and chef were world class. I would definitely go back here again next time I am in NYC.
