My boyfriend and I went to NYC for vacation and stumbled upon this little place. It's nothing fancy--if not for the canopy outside, you'd miss it. It's a tiny hole-in-the-wall basement shop, but that's exactly what we were looking for. Nothing fancy, just great pizza. We were also glad to find a place that sold pizza by the slice rather than having to buy a whole pie. We got 4 slices: margherita, feta and spinach, meat lovers, and chicken bacon ranch. All of them were excellent! Around $4 a slice. The crust is super thin and crispy and was perfect in my opinion. We both mentioned after we got back home that we wished we had gone back a second time while on the trip! Definitely recommend this place for a simple, low-key but wonderful meal!

A great slice of greasy NY pizza. On par with with Joe's, but different. If a nice juicy slice of fresh pizza is your thing, be sure to try Freddie & Peppers.

I have no idea how this place is rated so high. The food is bland and under salted and the sauce was too garlic heavy even for a garlic lover. The crust would have been great if the pizza was fresher, but let much to be desired. More expensive that comparable places too.

It can be hard in New York to actually find somewhere that serves "real" New York pizza - and Freddie and Pepper's fits the bill. Just a little hole in the wall spot - you almost certainly couldn't eat in on a regular basis - but they have a great crust, great sauce, great toppings, all for a very fair price.

buy it by the slice and its so nice!

Take out Pizza with terrific taste. Placed order for delivery at certain time and arrived perfectly. Quality above average.

I must have passed this place a hundred times and needed a quick snack. I am not going to lie you that their pizza is not expensive especially at $3.00 a slice but it is worth it. The pizza is really good. The sauce on the pizza is nicely spiced and that is what makes the foundation of the pizza and it is the right combination of cheese and sauce. The pizza is well cooked and even warmed over it was delicious. The place is really small so on a busy day there is not much room to sit down.

This is a perfect Italian place with great food. Take out is their specialty. Can get a slice and walk to a park.

Stopped by on the off chance with checking reviews first. Pleasantly suprised. The restaurant is very small and quite cramped, would definately recommened ordering to go. We ordered a half and half pizza to take back to the hotel, pizza was nice and the service was quick. My only critisim is that the pizza had a touch too much tomato puree on, it made the slices a little soggy at centre of the pizza. Very tasty though, generous toppings and resonable prices

Had lunch here with the Mrs. and enjoyed some of the best pizza we have ever eaten while in North America : ) Tried several slices (white, pepperoni, & a mixed described as a version of Tex-Mex. ). Each almost equally delicious! Beware that just one slice may fill you up, & that there could be a short line to get in depending on when you arrive. (The locals love this place) There is a small sitting area inside , but don’t go here for the ambience. Go here for the pizza.

Very good pizza and pasta with gluten free pizza available! The seating area is very small and basic, but we were glad to find a free table and enjoy our dinner. I wish they had gluten free pasta. The prices were very reasonable.

The pizza is good and unusual. Fresh veggies and meats, whole wheat crusts, bbq chicken, etc. I eat my pizza there but don't go for the atmosphere.

Great tasting pizza you can buy by the slice and the slices are huge. When we were in New York we went in there twice.

I love pizza but can't eat it very often. I'm so glad I saved my pizza visit for Freddie and Pepper's. It is a hole in the wall and I didn't eat in but the pizza is what counts. The crust was chewy and crisp, not too much sauce and not too much cheese, just right!

Strolling down NY City, we came across this incredible place. The restaurant is very small with only a few tables...but the pizza is unbelievable. I recommend this to everyone.

Stopped by here after our time at the American museum of natural history. It was really good pizza. The dough was great and cooked perfectly. My husband ordered two slices that were not your typical pizza. He got a spicy chicken southwestern style and a broccoli/tomato pizza. We both thought they were yummy but wish we had gotten to try a plain cheese. Ambiance- Small establishment. We managed to get a table for us and our 2 friends but a smaller party would have an easier time getting a table.

We come here all the time with our toddler son and neighborhood kids. Pros: Really good pizza - quintessential NY Great variety options! (Son loves the shrimp/anchovie pizza, I love the whole wheat pizza, there's even gluten free) Good value Friendly & kid-friendly Love the hole in the wall atmosphere very old NYC feel Cons: Not stroller friendly as there's a staircase to walk down (but you can park it outside and watch through the window. Tight space, but hey it's a hole in the wall and it's NYC Highly recommended for locals and tourists!

This is a very small restaurant but we always had a table. Maybe 6-7 two seat tables. The Margherita pizza had a great amount of basil. Thin, crispy crust.

Very good New York pizza; we were told that it is the best place in the Upper West Side. We really enjoyed the slices -- flavorful and cheap for NYC. The place is a little modest looking, seems to be more of a take out place, but there are a few tables (we ate there). Would definitely recommend it.

Eggplant Parmesan = wafer thin layer of eggplant over a mound of over cooked pasta with a side of lettuce masquerading as a Caesar by virtue of its dressing.

Ordered a large regular cheese pizza with sausage: cost $19.75. The crust was thick and doughy, the tomato sauce bland, the sausage essentially tasteless. This was not NYC pizza; might just as well have ordered from Domingo’s.

The pizza is pretty good, not great. The place is an authentic New York pizza joint - downstairs, old, and tiny. If nothing else, it's a fun experience.

I had never read about this place, had no one recommend it, but I'm 100% glad I found it. We were walking through the area, hungry, but not exactly sure want we wanted. When we saw the awning outside, we decided to go in and give it a try - best impromptu decision ever! There were a variety of types of pizzas, and for our first authentic slice of NY pizza, I couldn't have asked for more. I got a slice of sausage and peperoni - perfect! Highly recommend and I would go out of my way for another slice if I ever make it back!

Simply put....I am 54 years old and this is the best pizza I have ever had in my life. Pepperoni and cheese phenomenal the everything even more phenomenal. Small, hole in the wall find. Just excellent. Can't say enough.

If you want just a light super cheap meal or late night snack, you cannot possibly go wrong with Freddie's pizza.

Large and tasty NY pizza by thr slice. Loved it! Great for a quick bite for lunch. Or, they will bring the whole pie to your hotel by bike delivery!

This is probably the best pizza I have ever had and definitely the best that I have had in NYC. This pizza is awesome. Had the meat lovers and it was wonderful. Would definitely recommend and will definitely be going back again. They even offer vegan and other types or alternative options for various diets. Nothing more to say than awesome pizza!

Small place, fantastic pizza. You wouldn't think much of the looks of the place, but you'll have nothing but praise for their pizza and service.

This neighborhood -hole in the wall- is ALWAYS my first stop when we arrive in the city. I LOVE their pizza. This place is tiny, and you have just grab one of the 10 or so seats, but works well for our small family

Little hole in the wall place, well hole in the ground since you go down a set of stairs to enter, but it was great. Tiny inside but an authentic NY pizza slice with a crispy crust.

This place was close to our hotel so we stopped here to grab a slice on two occasions. The pizza was fresh and tasty. The service friendly. Open late. Sorry to go home to the midwest where you can get fresh pizza late into the night. :)

Small place, very little seating, 8-10 varieties of pizza, and they'll make you a gluten-free 12-inch upon request. OK for a quick bite, no atmosphere.

Sssssstop the madness!!! Best bacon spinach garlic pizza in the world. Not to be missed. My absolute favorite pizza ever, ever in my life. I'll be back.

My boyfriend and I were staying in Hotel Beacon off Broadway and needed dinner after exploring the city all day. It was around 10pm and we found Freddie and Peppers. It was perfect! The pizza slices were huge, decently priced, and not too busy. We both got a slice of their popular Bacon Ranch pizza, which was amazing, and some other slices. They take the slice you want and put it back in the oven for you to make sure its nice and hot. We paid about $16 for 4 slices. Keep in mind the premium slices like Bacon Ranch are a little more expensive. The service was fast and friendly and we even went back 2 more times in the 4 day period we were in New York! Would definitely recommend, especially as a late-night meal or snack since they are typically open until midnight or 1am.

Walk down the stairs and order the whole wheat pizza. Good crust and fillings. Absolutely worth a visit.

This pizza joint was perfect. Pizza was cooked perfectly. Service was quick. Very small inside.. holds under 20 people.

The pizza is great for starters. If you are looking for a New York style pizza...this is it! I had the chicken bacon ranch pizza ....different but tasty. My wife had pepperoni. Great size and slices were good and greasy. The seating area is small and not good for bigger groups. Great pace to stop on the go.

Grabbed different slices of pizza for lunch to bring back to our hotel. Fast service and a good selection of pizza all for a reasonable price.

It's always surprising what a good slice of mushroom pizza with some hot sauce and a Dr Pepper can do to uplift ones spirit on a cold and rainy New York City night. This place was perfect walk down choose you're slice watch it pop in and out of the oven. Perfect.

We spent the day at the American Museum of Natural History and after leaving wanted some traditional New York Pizza. Searched for places for pizza in the neighborhood of AMNH and took a chance on Freddie and Pepper's. The pizza was good and the restaurant was traditional New York City. We really enjoyed this pizza.

Best slice of pizza I've ever had! Excellent and a great selection of flavours.

Good in a pinch for fast pizza slices. Got a cheese slice and my husband got a sausage and pepperoni combo slice, both slices were $7.75. So not a bad deal. Pizza was pre-made and just warmed to eat.

Stopped here late Sunday night for a quick slice on our way out of town. Excellent pizza. Great Service. I think we just became regulars!

We found this little gem just around the corner from our hotel and I’m glad we did!! We got the large slice of pizza with a canned cola for 5.00 and the pizza was delicious! Only a small area in the back with tables and chairs but worked well for us to cool off in this heat. Will definitely be back!

We arrived with friends to UWS vacation apartment and needed something to eat FAST. Found Freddie and Peppers on TripAdvisor - just a quick walk away. We were underwhelmed by the store front until we noticed the line and pizza aroma. The line moved quickly and we loved our pizza choices. The crust is crispy - good enough to enjoy without topping. Toppings all got thumbs up from our group - even the veggie varieties! Will definitely go back for pizza that's delicious, quick and reasonably priced. Note: This is not a sit down and be served place. Orders are placed at the counter and the dining area has limited seating.

So many different pizza options - one of my favorites - unusual combos and all tasty - highly recommend them - not much to look at - definitely just a slice or take out

Vacationed in New York and wanted to try New York style pizza. A local highly recommended this restaurant and we are glad they did. I got a slice of meat lovers and it was very good. The restaurant is very New Yorkish in that it is small. We ate in at little tables for two. While waiting for our pizza local customers kept coming in for their regular order. Very good experience.

Hot & delicious pizza in a tiny alcove off the street. The service was fast & friendly & gave good advice for local stuff to do.

This "Hole in the Wall" pizza joint is always one of my favorites when I return to my original hometown of NYC for a visit. There's no "ambiance" here...you step down into the "basement" shop, and if you don't take your slices to go, there are only a handful of small tables below at which to sit. But don't worry, the pizza more than makes up for it. Their many varieties look great and are always excellent, and you'll be tempted to order 2 slices. Think twice about that, though...they're big and filling, and if you do, you may be too full for a dessert cookie at Levain Bakery located immediately around the corner. Start with one slice and see how you feel after that.

A little hole in the wall but decent pizza- multiple variations from vegetarian to meat pizza- maybe 4 tables - not a place to linger but good for a quick slice

This was just looking for, a simple slice of NY pepperoni pizza. It was perfect. The sauce was delicious with the right amount of mozz and loads of pepperoni. I was in and out in about 5 minutes and the price was very affordable. Great pizza place!

Had the pizza here (Chicken alfredo-yum) previously so this time we really enjoyed the Empanada. Local was enjoying a pretty great looking sandwich while we were there so will have to plan another visit here. Great and cheap lunch!!!

This is exactly what we were looking for when we wanted a NYC slice of pizza. Great little place right, cheap slices and good variety. Delicious pizza!

Was in the UWS and wanted a quick bite. I saw reviews for this nearby and decided to stop in. The place has a big sign outside but is fairly small inside. There are about a total of 15-20 seats total inside consisting of about 4-5 tables with stand-alone chairs and a small bench along the wall. Pizza was great. We had a barbecue chicken slice and a few cheese slices. Very cheap too.... Three slices and three sodas were about $13. There was a small fridge with the basic bottles and cans of soda. Staff was very helpful and nice. Perfect for a quick bite.

Small, selling single slices of many varieties of pizza, plus Italian submarine sandwiches and empanadas. Some of the best pizza I've had.

Enjoyed taking my five year old for traditional pizza by the slice at this great little dive restaurant. Nothing fancy, just good pizza.

Dough is incredible. Cheese and tomato sauce are top quality. Toppings are fresh and the variety are numerous

Wow wow wow this place is just amazing, great quality and delicious food, we order three times for delivery to our hotel in a four day stay in NYC, chicken parmesan extremely good and pizza in general is amazing but Their CHICKEN BACON RANCH PIZZA !!!!!!OMG!!!! never had anything similar, next trip for sure will be back thats no doubt about that!!!!!! Good job guys!!!!!!!

Great place for an excellent slice. Tasty and quick. Tough to get a table during busy times as it is very small. Not a place to go for atmosphere. Just really good pizza with lots of variety. Our kids had never had a NYC slice and they all get it now. Puts our local pizza to shame!

Small space but the pizza was delicious. I totally recommend the bacon and ranch pizza they serve. Staff is really friendly as well.

We were hungry and tried these pizza during our trip in NYC. They were simply perfect, exactly the type of pizza you expect to eat in the US. Definitely recommend!! Cheap, copious, and delicious. (try the Chicken Ranch one!)

The pizza slices in this cosy little establishment are very reasonably priced and quite delicious! They offer some really interesting choices of topping and the slices are big. I enjoyed my salad very much, also. It was a huge bowl and was tasty and fresh! A recommended dining experience if you can manage to grab a seat. Otherwise, go for the takeaway option!

After a busy day sightseeing we just wanted to chill at the hotel with some takeout so I ventured out and stumbled across this pizza place. Soo glad I did! This was exactly what I hoped a New York pizza would be. Full of toppings and lashings of gorgeous cheese. It could have fed us for a week!

Did a walk in and ordered a large Hawaiian pizza which was ready in 20 minutes. Great pizza but they didn't have regular ginger ale (only diet) or regular Sprite (only Sprite zero). I loved how small the place was and how set in their ways the workers appeared to be. Would definitely eat here again.

We got the broccoli and chicken pizza. It's a quick and cheap bite to eat and it's not bad for what you paid for - one slice of pizza and drink for about $5.

This is some great, NY style pizza. The place is small with only a few tables, so be prepared to take it home with you or eat it on the go. I had the spinach, bacon, and tomato pizza and the mole pizza. I LOVED the mole pizza. It was amazing. The price was also quite affordable. The staff were very friendly and patient with us while we decided what to order, and were happy to answer any questions that we had as well.

Me and my gf looked found this place due to tripadvisor and the recommendations from here. We might have gone at a bad time or something, but at lunch (early afternoon)- I highly doubt so. We picked our slices: Brocolli and chicken, some salsa slice with beans and a slice with tomato and cheese. We had plenty of different slices to make our judgement. The answer: Everything was horrible. All the slices were undercooked and my tomato and cheese slice were almost falling apart (due to the bottom being soggy and almost raw). We didnt eat up, and I will never recommend this place to anyone. The other reviews I have no idea, maybe they really think this is pizza?

It was a Sunday night with few people in there. This is a very small joint in the UWS, with 2 guys making pizza and attending the place. Their service was very cordial indeed. The pizza was well elaborated and I liked it. I would not say the best pizza I ever had but absolutely worthy going. Good prices as well.

Great pizza, welcoming vibe, interesting toppings, standout crust. Our favourite in Manhattan, cheers and we'll be back!

Besides regular delicious pizza, there are always maybe 10 other combo pizzas, both meat and veggie combos, some rather odd, like chicken mole, all delicious and made with fresh ingredients, not out of a can. Not a fancy place, in fact, I think it revels in its' dinginess. Downstairs below street level. The pizza speaks for itself.

God bless them for having a pizza made with soy cheese for those of us who avoid dairy. It's delicious and beautifully cooked. I love this place, the guys and the food. Yay team.

A great NY style pizza place in the Upper West Side. Sold by the slice so you can try multiple different types, pick a few and take them to go! The dining area is small and tight so this is great pizza to take back to your hotel or apartment. The Chicken Bacon Ranch was really good, the Pesta Feta yummy, & the broccoli zucchini a healthier alternative, but our favorite was the bacon tomato spinach. Enjoy!

They have many specialty pizzas with great toppings ready by the slice. The "dining room" is very small and cramped with zero atmosphere. Best to get a slice to go.

Walked in and was told by the locals already ordering this was the best slice on the West Side. Had the chicken, bacon ranch. Delicious. Everything looked good and I wish I'd grabbed some empanadas as well

This is our go-to pizza spot in New York, close to the hotel where we usually stay. Recommend for take away. You enter a door and walk down a few stairs and you're practically in the pizza kitchen. There are just a couple of tables if you do want to eat in. A slice is enough for a meal! Great selection of pizza and changes all the time depending on what time you're there and what they have left. This time my husband ordered a large pizza that he brought back to the hotel room - we could barely fit it through the door, it was enormous! We feasted on it for days. Great value, great pizzas, what else can I say.

After a night at the Beacon theater and you are hungry this is the place place on the upper west side to get a slice of true New York pizza!!! It was delicious!!

I ordered both the bacon, tomato and spinach pizza as well as the broccoli, spinach and tomato pizza and while I really enjoyed both, the garden one was so much better! Perfect flavor and the crust was the right level of crispness. Just a tourist but I would go there again!

We came across it by chance when leaving sourdough bakery on the right corner. It doesn't look like much from the outside And it was a very good choice! Super good pizzas 🍕 and great welcome with a few seats inside and on the terrace Less than $6 per slice more expensive than some other snacks but much better value for money than a pretzel in Central Park 😀

We went to Freddie and Pepper's on the recommendation of our hotel. DELICIOUS! I had the chicken bacon ranch and the veggie and goat cheest on wheat. Crust is perfect, flavors spot on! Can not wait to go back!

We were on our way to Levain Bakery, but had not had lunch so we stopped by here first. The pizza was definitely very good, the value was excellent and the employees were very polite.

Grabbed a couple of slices of pie. An all meat and a cheese slice. Plenty of toppings and one piece was all I needed. Had plenty of flavour and I could put chilli flakes on. Going back tomorrow.

Freddie and Pepper's has fantastic NYC pizza. This is a typical little NYC pizzeria with limited seating. The pizza is out of this world with great flavor and great crust. The UWS location is convenient and easy for take away.

I've eaten here a few times mainly because it's the closest pizza place to me. The pizza is good but the place is small and as I said in the title "Dismal" place can use a make over to make it look cleaner. Perhaps a different color paint.

I walked by this place while on my solo trip in NYC. The pizza was excellent, especially since they put the slices back in the oven before serving. The crust was crispy, the cheese was melting...yummy! I sat in the joint but a lot of people ordered slices to go. Would recommend for a quick fix if you're visiting or staying on the UWS!

We were looking for a taste of REAL New York Pizza. The front desk at the hotel recommended this place but we did not find it as good as they claimed. Don't take me wrong, the pizza was good, just not great. The place is small and seems to have been there forever. We found it was good to grab a quick bite late at night.

Good crust, ample variety of flavors with vegetarian options, really hot out of the oven and quite flavorful. Worth a visit.

This spot has very good pizza. It is small and easy miss, however. It is well-positioned in the Upper West Side.

I've known of - frequented Freddy's as I call it from their original location over thirty five years ago to today. Exceptional quality, period. PERIOD I miss the original but this as as good as it essentially gets.

Look no further. We travelled all the way from the West Coast for real NYC pizza. We tried many places all over the city, but this was the best. Great staff, nice neighbourhood and excellent pizza

Very good pizza. Not the best we had in nyc but still very good. Price was fair. Limited seating for only about 10 guest so best for take out which is what most everyone was doing.

Freddie and Pepper's offers a wide range of toppings (as well as a fine cheese slice). It does a good business and there isn't much seating, so pick the time of your visit to be able to eat in the nearby park if necessary.

We ate here twice whilst in NYC. Both times takeaway. It is very basic but awesome pizza. Wish they had pizza like it in Australia

We visited the place in August 2013. If you like NewTork style pizza, you have to try it at Freddie. No pretentions, just pizza

Came across this place when wandering around NY after visiting Central Park. We were looking for a cheap snack. There are a few tables inside and we managed to sit in and eat. The pizza was very tasty and big slices. Would go back again, lots of choice and a fridge with cold drinks too.

My family stopped by here on the way back from the AMNH upon a recommendation. Nothing fancy but good pizza and friendly staff! Very small place for eating in but they have a good selection of pizzas ready and the price is very fair. May not be as trendy or popular as others but for a quick, good, inexpensive slice of NY pizza it's a great option. Give it a try!

We chose to grab dinner from here as it was close to our hotel, that turned out to be a really good decision. There is a wide range of pizza on offer and the 5 or 6 different flavours we tried all proved to be excellent. Nice crispy base and generous toppings. The two of us ate very well and had a drink for about $25. A bargain. It gets busy here, when we were eating a queue formed that stretched up the stairs and out onto the sidewalk.

We paid a visit here before going to the Museum of Natural History around the corner. It's a dingy little affair but prices are very reasonable. I wanted to try the basil and mozzarella slice but sadly there wasn't much choice, which is surprising at lunchtime so just went for a Pepperoni slice instead, my husband had some kind of meat feast pizza too. I know pizza isn't diet food but I had to put a paper towel over the top of my pizza about 4 times to blot away the fat and each time the towel was saturated with it! Pizza is hard to get wrong though and it was perfectly edible but nothing special. They guy serving was really grumpy, he definitely needed some customer service skills!

Was an average NY pizza walk in. The pizza wasn't average as well when compared to other NY pizza. Didn't blow me away.

Had the cheese. Very good. Also tried spinach broccoli and fresh tomato very tasty. Small place lots of unique options.

I ordered a pizza by phone and it was delivered practically before I hung up. Hot, tasty, prompt service, reasonably priced. Recommended.

If you want a NY pizza, then get here and get a slice or two or a whole pie. We had meatball which had the most meatballs we have ever had crumbled not sliced. We also had a slice of chicken vodka, it was very tasty.

Freddie and Pepper's it the go to for pizza on the upper west side. There is a range of pizza from traditional through to slices with various toppings. The seating area is only small - the 3 times we visited we were able to find a table - the line is sometimes long - but turns over quickly. Take the time to look at the photos on the wall of some of the more famous customers who have enjoyed the pizza.

We ordered take out at the small cramped location on a Friday at approx 7pm and they were out of most types of pizza so we ended up with 1 plain, 2 pepperoni and 1 spinach, tomato and bacon. When we got back to the room we didn't even eat more than half as it was very greasy and the crust was floppy and pathetic. Wouldn't even try again. The la Famiglia pizza was better.

What a great find! Great slices of pizza with all kinds of topping combinations. The place is small, but the pizza is heavenly!

Inconsistent. If you happen to grab a fresh, hot slice you could be in heaven. Otherwise, it's hit or miss.

By the slice - and sit or leave. Or by the pie - wait or have it delivered. Either way is a good way - and the hard working staff are courteous, friendly, and make one feel at home. All business, never gruff. I'll eat there again and again, and again. KILLER pizza.

Found my new favorite pizza in NYC. We were visiting the Museum of natural history and used yelp to find pizza. This place was close and had good ratings so we tried it out. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. My son has a milk allergy and they made him a special pizza. The pizza was great.

This place has NY pizza that will satisfy a craving, and GREAT empanadas and beef patties. I haven't tried the pasta or other dishes they have yet, but so far, the 3 above-mentioned things have gotten me to come back!

Ordered pizza in the restaurant and the guys where kind. Delivery on the hotel door on time. Altogh the service and politeness was good, the pizza was not. Never again...

Good pizza.....including vegan options, although they were out of vegan pepperoni. The staff was very accommodating. It is literally a hole in the wall.

Authentic pizza with a huge selection of topping choices. We were only in NYC for the weekend but ate here twice!

Best on the UWS. On time delivery. I would stay away from the extra cheese. It's way too extra. My bad for ordering it. Others, with pepperoni, sausage, peppers, onion were excellent.

We stopped into this pizza spot and grabbed some slices, there were lots of neat pizza combos and the slices were large and tasty. Although, given this is New York, there does seem to be delicious pizza on every corner. The atmosphere was sort of dingy, and the restrooms were down right grimy, which does put me off in a restaurant, I must admit. I guess it was ok, that is my thought in the end.

I came here not expecting a complete open concept restaurant but at least enough to move around a little bit. WRONG! When I stepped in I couldn't even step back out. The pizza was okay.

My wife and I traveled to NYC this month and stayed on the upper west side near 75th and Broadway. We found Freddie and Peppers as we were walking in the neighborhood on Amsterdam street the first night and by the time our 9 day trip was over we had been there at least five or six nights! While the restaurant is small and very very busy, we found a table nearly every time quickly and the pizza is to die for! We had the Ham and Pineapple, Cheese, and Mushroom most and each time seemed better than the first!!! The people were friendly and good even though they must be so stressed with the amount of work they are doing. You will be so happy you have found this place!!!

If I could give NO Rating would be more appropriate. Actually, NEGATIVE Rating!!! We each took a bite and pitched three slices in the trash. Not fit for the pigeons.

I have been walking by this place for years and thought it was just another hole in the wall pizza joint. Was I ever wrong! The pizza is not only fantastic with many outstanding choices, the prices are also very economical. If they have the chicken with vodka sauce, don't miss it. We had 2 slices each and two soft drinks and paid twenty bucks. The service is fast and friendly. You'll be glad you checked this place out. I will be a regular.

There is no option between average and very good. I would put this as a good slice of pizza but went very good based on my selections. Look there are a lot of options in NY for pizza. I have tried a lot this one falls into a traditional slice shop in NY. Big slices of pizza 8-10 flavors are cooked ready to be heated up for you to eat in a standard pizza oven. Small dining room area if you want to sit. We stayed nearby so late at night it was great to walk to this shop grab a slice for our room and have a nice snack. If you want a good quick slice this place can be a good choice.

The crust was soft and tasted fresh, the sauce was perfect, and the toppings were fresh and tasty. We also enjoyed our interactions with the guys in the shop. Good stuff here.

Walked here from our Broadway hotel. It is a walk-down restaurant with limited space for dining. Once inside, its busy and fun. I saw singles, father/daughters, seniors, people getting off of work - just an assortment of people. I was with my husband and three teenagers. You order and pay from the counter when you walk in. The pizzas are on display and you can choose your slices. Most people buy slices, but there is a paper menu offering salads and other items. The guys who work there are easy-going and interactive if you want to talk. Once you order your pizza they put it in a huge, hot oven to reheat and hand it to you from the counter. If the pizza is already hot, they just serve it up! Seating is limited, so we waited until we could find a couple of tables to put together. The pizza is hot, delicious and affordable. No complaints from my group. We visited twice for slices!

I rent across the street from this Italian Takeout restaurant. Last year ordered a few times and the food was passable. Tonight I brought in a chicken parmesan hero from them. Pre cooked chicken that reminded me of my nuggets, overly seasoned oregano sauce and congealed cheese😣.. inedible. I threw it out! I WILL NEVER GO THERE AGAIN!!!

We found this place because of the one bite app and it’s amazing ! Best pizza we have ever had , will definitely be back the next time we are in New York

Unlike other areas in NYC the UWS seems to lack in selection for pizza places that sell by the slice. That being said this is definitely the best option that I have found so far but it just isn't as good as slices I have had at other spots. However if you are on the UWS and just want a quick slice this is where you should go.

I've walked by here a few times when I go shopping on the Upper West Side (UWS), I finally decided to stop in. You have to walk down one flight of stairs and it seems like this tiny pizza joint is a local favorite. I ordered a slice of mushroom pizza which was extremely large. After I sat down, I looked up and saw on the menu posted on the wall that they offer whole wheat pizza and also soy cheese, darn it, I wish I had known. If I go back, I'm going to order it instead because it's much healthier than regular pizza.

I liked the reviews from this pizza joint but almost walked out because of limited seating. As we walked out a local told us that this is certainly the best pizza slice in the Upper West Side so we decided to give it a shot. I think if you are looking for something representative of a NYC slice, look no further, This is it. I think you could find better slices in other districts, but not much better I would think. I did the pepperoni slice and loved it. The Margarita slice--I would not suggest. It just did not work for me. I think mainly because that type of pizza is better suited for wood fired thin crust. My daughter also loved her slice. I wish they had more tables but we did find a spot.

Got a huge 4-dollar slice (chicken vodka sauce) after a show at the Beacon. Was amazing, probably best slice ever.

I live in the neighborhood and this place is my go to restaurant for pizza. The whole wheat with spinach and feta is by far my favorite, but they are all very good. Better for takeout since the space is cramped and maybe not the best ambiance.

Everytime I am in NYC this is the pie to have. Can't get enough of it..I really don't understand how lower east side pizzerias are taking all the glory, when this is the best...It is the best..Small eatery just follow your nose on Amsterdam and 74th street, walk down the stairs to pizza glory..Pepperoni is the best, they used to make a great 'white' pizza, but haven't seen it for a while. Vegan pizzas are great as well..Great little place to unwind and enjoy a slice..

I stopped in here one day last summer and the slices were awesome. They had a great selection of 'normal' options and specialty slices as well. It's a small hole in the wall kind of place, just the way I like it.

this is an amazing local pizza place, a small hidden gem, where the pizza is the star. Amazing plain slice, just like it should be. Thin crusted but juicy. Want something extraordinary? Try the Chicken-Bacon- Ranch. You will be spoiled forever!!!

On this one block between 74th and 75th, Hummus Place and Freddie and Pepper's are our favorite go-to places. They have regular, whole wheat and gluten free pizza dough as options. Frankly the regular thin crust is the tastiest but the others are also very good. They accept credit cards and have great humor. I really like these guys, if you are in the Upper West Side and need a great slice or whole pie, give them your money you won't be disappointed. Don't eat it in though, it's depressing. This place is not there for you to have a meal inside. Grab your pie or slice and go! It's New York City.

In my opinion pizza should have it's own food group, so while in NYC I tested/tasted several slices and this place was number one! It's really small inside, so I had to eat on the go, but it was worth it. The crust, the sauce and cheese were perfect and staff were super nice! If I ever make it back to NYC, I will be sure to stop by Feddie and Pepper's.

Have always ordered takeout or delivery from here for the best pizza in the upper west side area. Always great tasting with good ingredients. There is a small seating area as well for dine in option.

Classic cheese slice - can't go wrong. Great selection of other ones which I've tried but always go back to cheese.

A very small authentic place with a large variety of pizzas... We tasted 4 of them and all were excellent. Highly recommended!

Ok, so I don't spend that much time on the West Side, but I can bet this place is legendary. Coming from our small hotel room....we didn't pick up much space her, but who cares if the food is good. It was really good and better than a few blocks over who wanted like 30 bucks for a pizza. This is what you think of when you think NY Pizza!

We tried 7 different typeof pizza and loved them all. This should be ranked #1! Friendly helpful staff.

Had a slice ... And a half today. Chose mushroom pizza, they probably had 8-10 choices. They put it in the oven to warm up and give the crust a great crispy crunch. The mushroom pizza was really good. Also tried the chicken bacon ranch ... Not my favorite (not big on chicken pizza) but it was ok and that is one of their most popular. Others in my group loved it as well as the nacho pizza. It is small restaurant but reasonable. Our big party of 16 took up every seat they had but you're in and out fast so no worries.

Just a short walk away from the Hotel Beacon with excellent pizza! The staff was friendly and the prices are reasonable.

Chicken Ranch pizza it's AMAZING! There are isn't much places to sit down, but we found a table to sit and eat. The staff is also very charismatic

This place is a NY locals place...tiny basement pizzeria. The guys are usually friendly. They have some unique toppings (like chicken bacon ranch and some jalepeno slice that is SPICY! $4 for the fancy slices...about the norm in NYC.

We had a craving for some traditional NY pizza. Like I used to get at Angelo's in Astoria. This pizza was not even close. The sauce was not good, the crust was burned. On the positive side, their Caesar salad was good.

Great little place for delicious variety pizza slices. We had 5 different topping pizzas and all were so tasty! Not a place to sit for a while but if you happen to score a chair its fun to take in the fast paced pizza making and service. Service is fast and friendly. Definitely going back!

Stopped in for lunch based on our location and the good reviews. It did not disappoint. In the garden level of the street you walk down into a small place with great smells. There are 4 tables for 2 people. We both got a slice and loved it. Meat for both of us. Prices were good (like $5 / slice) and the service was excellent.

Just a good, all-round neighbourhood pizza joint. Super busy when we were there, but the staff was great.

Great crust!!! Lots of choices. Not enough places to eat and they should have seats or a bench out front. Pizza was very good.

We ate pizza/pasta there four nights. Easy access--in and out-- with pizza that is not available in Texas. Can't wait to get back!!!

It's about the same size as my closet St home. Huge variety in pizzas. My thought when taking my first bite - the base and crust and crisp and nice ( no soggy pizza). It's good, if you're in the neighbourhood.

We ordered some slices to go. They were yummy - meat lovers, mushroom and hawaiian. There are some tables where you can sit. This seemed very 'New York' to me, some steps down into a small room with a pizza oven where you can grab a slice.

Very good pizza and sympathetic staff in a small restaurant. Best to buy first one slice and then another, because they are larger than they seem.

This was recommended on the NYC TA forum when I asked for suggestions for good places to eat on the UWS. It was just around the corner from where we were staying so I popped in to get a couple of slices on the night we arrived after a 21 hour flight from Australia and just wanted some quick food. Well, we were hooked. I think we managed to make room for a slice just about every day for the next week! We just had the plain or pepperoni, but it was just so fresh and tasty. Freddie and Peppers was one of the highlights of New York for my teens!

Very good pizza with the old school feel and friendly employees. Pizza by the slice. The margarita and pepperoni were very good.

First slice of pizza we had in NYC, and it didn't disappoint! Great variety, fresh toppings, a really crisp base and good prices. Definitely recommended!

Had a pepperoni and tomato basil for lunch. Was really delicious, hot and crispy. There are a few tables and a small bathroom and some sodas. 4 slices and 2 cans cost $19

The toppings slide off the pizza its so greasy. The cheese is thick and tasteless. The crust is salty and burnt. Overall the pizza is a greasy, nasty, mess. Do not order!

Nice little Hole in the wall pizza take away, doesn't look much but that's the idea and the pizza is good, I think is what they call the real American pizza, big slice on a paper plate eating standing up with a can of coke..yiu can sit...if your quick and is not busy ....lol...Love it tasted good and super cheap!! Just before theater on a Saturday night is what I want...2 slices of pepperoni pizza and a drink 9 dollars...nice!!!

We have been to NYC three times and the first place we go to eat is Freddie and Peppers on Amsterdam. The service is great. The ambiance is uniquely New York. The staff is friendly and we get our order quickly. I would advise anyone going to New York to eat there. Before my first trip to NYC I heard how people have to fold their pieces of pizza in half to eat and at Freddie and Pepper's that's exactly how you have to eat a piece. My husband and I have two slices of pizza and 2 drinks for about $12.00. The pieces are big enough to even share. It's wonderful!!!!

We were staying in the Upper West Side so decided to try Freddie and Pepper's for Friday night dinner with our children. It was so close to our hotel The Lucerne and we decided to go early for dinner around 5:30. The place is tiny (like so many spots in NYC) and we went down the stairs and though there are only about six tables we pushed two together and ordered a Hawaiian style pizza. The guys who work there are helpful and friendly- one helped my son get a drink out of the refrigerator case when it was proving to be difficult. As soon as we sat down it seems a line started to form out the door and most were for carry out. We enjoyed the pizza and a large fed all four of us. We secretly timed a guy who was folding pizza boxes at a speedy 9 seconds a box - it is a busy place! The best treat was the bill - under $30 for the pizza and three drinks. Love it!

We spent mid-day at the American Museum of Natural History and Central Park. When it came time to eat,we searched for nearby pizza place. Safari brought up Freddie and Pepper's and the description was just what we wanted - original NYC pizza from a "whole in the wall." Glad we found it just a short walk from the museum. We were not disappointed. We got 2 traditional slices of pepperoni pizza and a couple of waters for ten bucks. The pizza was great and made to order from warm pre-made cheese pizza. It came from their brick pizza oven pipping hot and sizzling. A few tables inside or take it to eat on the run. Highly recommend this place for great pizza and a slice of NYC tradition!

I walked past Freddie and Pepper's many times, but it wasn't until recently that I finally tried it. The slice I had was very tasty and I like the casual feel of the joint. It was lunch time when I went and the place was packed - always a good sign!

Ehhhhh. I don't know why this place got such good reviews. The pizza was just OK, and we ordered plain slices. The staff wasn't very friendly. We won't be returning.

Just what we were looking for after a long day at central park. Great variety we all liked what we had, but the pepperoni was the best.

Very good address in New York close to the Museum of Natural History. Very good pizza, super fine dough. Very good value for Award. $35 to 4 for a slice of pizza and a drink.

We wanted a cheap eat and we weren't disappointed with this place. Great American style pizza. Friendly staff Not a massive amount of seating available.
Outstanding!
Picked up takeout pizza slices, a variety. Amazing value at$18. Agree with other reviews I wouldn't choose to sit in but amazing quality food
