Salmon

By Connie K |

Really enjoyed the salmon and glaze. I switched the sides on the menu for the artichoke and cauliflower puree. I would have the salmon and artichoke again. But the cauliflower not to my liking, watery creamy no seasoning.

A really nice meal

By laura S |

Friedmans is a must for anyone who has celiac and or is gluten free. It is so nice to be in a restaurant where you feel safe ordering almost everything off of the menu, and a lot of things that are traditionally not gluten free are. The portions are huge, so be aware, and the fries are really average. But the fried chicken and (gf) beer battered fish were really good! Ambience was nice, service was good but a bit slow, but that is totally expected on a Saturday night when it is busy.

Pretty good

By KJDbiz1 |

this is a nice place. The vibe is kind of little old lady. pink velvet couches, etc. I thought a pretty limited menu Having said that, my husband loved the pastrami in the pastrami sandwich. Service was pretty good but all in all I would say, there are so many fantastic places in New York. If you were here on vacation, I would skip it.

You'll Love This Place

By Richard F |

Warm and friendly food servers. Best deal is "Early Bird" special, 5-6 pm - $20 for salad, main course and dessert (chocolate pudding - with dark chocolate). Breakfast, lunch or dinner. Excellent variety, good quality, and no need to take out a loan to pay the bill.

Happy to find this place…

We were lucky to find this place. Great Service, very tasty food. Modern interior. Happy to get a table. We will come back again

Excellent

By mily h |

This place was great. Even with it being really busy we only had to wait for 15 minutes for a table. Our waiter James was an absolute delight! He was so friendly and sweet and went above and beyond to make sure we were satisfied. The place itself was beautiful and had a great atmosphere. All their food is fresh and delicious! Even with our group of 8 people the service went smoothly. I definitely recommend this place and plan on going back.

Delicious food

Great take out option during the pandemic. We loved the pastrami reuben, vegetable potstickers and the chicken salad. They even send all food with tamper resistant seals which is a great delivery feature. Will definitely go back!!

Worthy member of this great chain -- but check the address!

By Andrew K |

TripAdvisor's address for this restaurant, 130 West 72nd, is WRONG -- it is at 50 West 72nd, despite, I'm certain, multiple TripAdvisor reviewers providing the correct address. I'm certain because I recently advised TripAdvisor of a current address for another Manhattan restaurant, providing the restaurant's website showing the new address. What happened? A TripAdvisor bot, no doubt, said it could not change the address. So, potential customer, beware of TripAdvisor addresses, and check the entity's own website for an accurate address. Three of us met here for dinner on a rainy midweek evening, and, predictably, we all had a great meal, and a great time. We closed the place, after an hour and a half, at 9 pm. A nice bottle of Sancerre for $50, 1 Grain bowl ($18), and two orders of Fish & Chips ($26 each), mine gluten-free were enjoyed -- although I could have had less breading on the fish. Friendly and attentive service.

Doesn't open during posted business hours

By Hugh K |

We tried to eat at Friedman's this week. The operative word there is "tried" because we showed up 35 minutes AFTER the posted hours listed their opening time, only to find an empty restaurant and a guy inside telling us that they were still trying to get set up for the day, requesting that we give them another 25 minutes to do so. Um, no, not gonna happen. NOTE TO OWNERS: Try updating your posted hours if you intend to open later than what you list, or else expect to lose a lot of future business from angered customers who expect you to be open during the times that you list.

Please find another place to eat, it’s not worth the attitude or the wait.

By Eric NYC |

The food took forever to get to our table, others got their food before we did, and the taste was ok. The overall service was below par. But the place looks awesome. 2/5 but I won’t be coming back.

Delicious pastrami

By BobiTychynskiShimoda |

Great restaurant with a nice ambiance, excellent food and friendly service. The place was very clean and bright. The menu had tons of gluten free choices. I enjoyed the pastrami hash and my husband had the pastrami sandwich. They were exceptional!

NOT FOR NON-SMOKERS

By Caroline M |

This used to be Dumpling place - big chain-smoking Asian chef outside door many times every day. Spoke to him several times. We locals didn't want smoke-tinged food, never went there. Friedman's came. Great food. Then same Dumpling place, La Salle, joined Friedman's. Same chain-smoking chef now. Have told him6timesno smoking. Think pretending no English. Don't go there. Second-hand smoke in your food and lungs. Caroline

YUM- must go!

By c5cent |

We found this little spot on Yelp and it was amazing find. It’s a little small, fits about 50 people at a time, but the food and service was outstanding. There was a wait, but they turned over tables pretty fast. Again, it’s a tight fit, but they were family friendly. Great brunch spot if you’re hanging around Central Park and want some good grub!

Good Local Breakfast Spot

By Jeff Jacobs |

On the UWS, it’s easy to find a pizza place, with breakfast, not so much. Went with the reviews, and Friedman’s didn’t disappoint. Popular local spot for a Saturday morning breakfast, with both strollers double-parked and older folks filing in, too. Service was friendly and helpful from Bridget, and it really wasn’t her fault that the food took awhile to come out. Good news was that we weren’t in a hurry, anyway. As we sat down we were offered “complimentary water”- still or bubbles, a nice touch. I’d highly recommend the Chicken Chilaquiles (sunny side eggs, fried tortillas, avocados, tomatillo salsa, cotija cheese, $17), a generous portion with just a little spice. One of those dishes you know you should stop, but you just can’t because the flavor is so good! We also had the Eggs With Style (2 eggs, potato hash, toast, and a choice of breakfast meat or toast, $15). Eggs were prepared just as requested, over medium +. All in all, a good breakfast, but not inexpensive- with $5 orange juice, the total came to just about $46.

Nice meal

By Mrs Tiggywinkle |

We had a quick meal here recently. Service was friendly and fast. The food was pretty good. However, I queried a particular ingredient in the sauce (with the spinach ravioli) and the server had no idea and went to ask the chef who also had no idea. While that is slightly concerning it wont deter me from giving them another try.

Good solid choice for delivery during the pandemic

By tian s |

Ordered the chicken dinner, the chicken is not too dry nor too greasy and is nicely spiced with herbs. The matzah ball soup was good, not too salty. The 3 side orders were the starts, excellent herb fries, and sauteed broccoli and cauliflower. The apple pie desert was also good.

Perfect NYC brunch dish

By Stephen P |

My daughter has coeliac disease so Friedman’s is a ever present back up. But the Nova Benny is the perfect NYC brunch dish. And not a back up. poached eggs, potato latke, smoked salmon, sauté kale, hollandaise

Not Safe For Celiacs

By SimonTOfficial |

First time visiting this place. Went during happy hour. $7 small cocktails that were okay. Started with the Korean wings, which were really really great. Had the fried chicken sandwich which was average, found it was under spiced. Consistency was good but just lacked flavor. Had a Brooklyn lager that was pretty good. My partner has celiac and she checked ahead with the waiter who was supremely confident “no cross contamination possible.” Well, that sounded too good to be true, and it was. She got sick and was wiped out the rest of the day in the bathroom. Two drinks each, two happy hour appetizers, and two mains will out you back $100USD all in. Overpriced I thought but it’s NYC. Will try a different place next time. Great wings though.

B’fast for Two

By ToneSavvy |

Friendly staff, warmly greeted on a frigid day. Seated immediately. Did begin to fill up, but service moved at a pace to keep up. We had the BELT and Omelette, quite good. Would definitely go back.

Is Friedmans NY worth it?

By Eugenio M |

C A L I F I C A C I O N * Cuisines: **** * Place: **** * Attention: ***** * Drinks: **** * Price/Value: **** General rating: 4.2 / 5 Recommendation * Input: Lemon Ricota Pancakes. * Strong: Friendmands Club & Huevos Racheros. * Dessert: N/A. Comments: It is a warm restaurant, with very good service and attention, good tastes and no exaggerated prices. The portions are large so you can share a dish for 2 people without problem, especially the sandwiches. Approximate cost for two people: 100 USD. Is it worth it? Yes.

Nice neighborhood spot

By LA1005 |

We had a great lunch here based on recommendation of a friend who lives on this block. Being a visitor, it was nice to be in a neighborhood restaurant out of the tourist area. Great Bloody Mary and Reuben with very good service.

Their "Market Plate" option is awesome!

By mchelle77 |

I came here for lunch after shopping nearby, only because they had outdoor dining and wine. No complaints about the wine, but raves for the menu. I wasn't too hungry, but needed something so I opted for a "Market Plate", which is a meal you create out of choosing any three sides. I went for the broccoli, the yuca fries and the mac & cheese. Waitress was very helpful, never rushed me or disappeared. I had no idea this was a local chain? My husband and I are at the Hell's Kitchen location 2 years ago and had a great meal then as well. I look forward to trying other locations next time I'm back.

Great food that is not worth the horrible customer service!

By Deborah |

We have been @72st location several times with no issues, it's always packed, but today will definitely be our last time, the food is not worth the rudeness of their manager. I was told by the host that was accommodating people that it was a better idea to sit in their outside area that was heated to avoid a 30 minute wait to be seated. We sat down and one of the heaters was not working and after 20 minutes of waiting for the place to get warm it was impossible to be there due to cold, the wind comes in from everywhere its not really closed, it is impossible to be there. I went inside and told him that he had said that the space was warm and he rudely answered me that he didn't say it was warm he said it was heated, so I told him the heaters were not working he told me it wasn't his fault and I should just leave. I asked our waitress for a phone number to complaint about him, she told me we can't because he is the general manager and there is nothing we can do. She is wrong we can take our business someplace else.

Good food at a decent price

By Larry W |

I had never dined at this small, family-style restaurant in the Upper West Side of Manhattan. I really enjoyed it, although there was about a twenty-minute wait to be seated. The menu contained an eclectic mixture of sandwiches, soups, salads, and more. I settled on a simple bowl of corn chowder which was very good; smooth but still contained some of the original corn kernels, which I enjoyed. I asked for a bit of pita bread to go along with the chowder, and they brought out a whole bowl of small chips that complemented the soup perfectly. This made for a wonderful lunch, and everyone else enjoyed theirs as well. I highly recommend this place.

Cheeseburger

By NewYorkAnnie13 |

Burger came out slightly warm and cheese not even melted. I mentioned it to the waitress as she passed me sitting at the counter. She just looked at me like, oh..The burger was tasteless and barely cooked which I found out when I bit into it. I hadn't eaten all day and was that hungry so took another bite. Should have sent it back, my mistake. What surprised me, however was the bartender when eating less than half of it asked for a check. He didn't even say...I see you hardly ate this ..was something wrong..said nothing..just removed half eaten burger and gave me a check. I'm sure other things there are good but stay away from the burgers

Happy accidental find

By Handle |

We happened upon this neighborhood spot by accident and were pleasantly surprised. Breakfast was hearty, and service was efficient.

Best place in NY, and I have enjoyed a few!

By David |

Now this is the way you want to be met and served! Positive greeting, no problem attitude and excellent food! Fighting with the family as they all want to go back again tomorrow, but there are X more places to enjoy here in NY!

Generally happy a little Disappointed today

By maimy76 |

I travel from the east side for this restaurant. The staff is always very nice. The restaurant clean. My favorite is the fried chicken sandwich. It is generally very good. My last two visits the chicken itself was not good. They have one young man waiting tables and he is definitely overworked. He certainly does try to be pleasant and get your order out in a timely fashion but he needs help. Since I wish to only eat completely outdoors the problem for them is where the tables are you are sitting on an angle and it is very uncomfortable. I would like to try their chocolate Babka French toast but I am told that they rarely have it. I don’t know why they keep it on the menu.

Great start to the day

First visit to new york and this was our first breakfast and what a great choice. Friendly staff, great food in a lovely setting would definitely recommend.

Great Brunch spot

By Denise K |

What a great place! Not only the usual great Friedman's food, but this one also has an Asian menu, which means you can take a group and everyone will have fun. Portions are large - be prepared. Everything was perfectly cooked. This is the place for a great Reuben. But those who had breakfast were delighted too. Friendly staff.

The best gluten free brunch

By AndoverDan |

This place is unique in that most items are gluten free, and what we had was very tasty. Friendly and prompt service. A neighborhood gem.

Great if you order right

By wanderluser |

The service is excellent! The host was very funny. He had a unique, quirky sense of humor. And our waitress took off the soup that my mom didn’t like even though there wasn’t technically anything wrong with it. I had the salmon salad which is one of my favorite dishes in New York. I also got a matzoh ball soup which was a mistake. I suppose Friedman’s isn’t a kosher deli and I wasn’t expecting it to be amazing. But it really had no flavor. I got an omelette there for breakfast which was pretty good. Anyway, I think it’s a good spot to check out but definitely worth going to if you like the sound of their salmon salad
