Our group of 5 (2 adults and 3 kids) had brunch here on Friday morning. They were full but it only took about 5 minutes to be seated. We were upstairs and while space is tight it felt quite cozy. Kids all ordered blueberry pancakes and they generously substituted the fruit cup for all berries. My friend and I both ordered omelettes which were delicious and served in a skillet. Great place fro Brunch!

Awesome Sunday breakfast following 8:00 Sunday mass at Epiphany Catholic Church. Going to this restaurant early is key as it is very popular. We were 6 people plus a 9 month old baby. The food was delicious - we had pancakes for the table which might have been the best fresh blueberry pancakes I have ever had. The yogurt and fruit was amazing. I also had an egg sandwich which was delicious and everyone else loved the egg omelettes and eggs benedict. The group was less enthusiastic about the bloody Mary's. The service was friendly and certainly did not rush us, a surprising fact given the number of people waiting to sit down. Perhaps the only negative for us was that the restaurant had no high chair for the baby - only a booster seat which she can not yet use; someone had to hold the baby throughout the breakfast, which of course is less than ideal. When we left by 11:00, the line was down the street.

Visiting NYC for the weekend, we asked a local for a recommendation for breakfast near our rented apartment. Two blocks away was his suggestion and we were in for a treat. Delicious, fresh, all natural, unique presentation of classic breakfast dishes. Not an inexpensive 'diner' menu, but well worth the treat. The waitstaff pleasant and helpful as well. Thanks to the neighbor for a great tip!

Nicely decorated premises, good menu and quality food. Eggs benedict well done with excellent bacon (not the normal thin streaky stuff!) and the blueberry pancakes were the best we had ever tried! Very good coffee. The high price was the reason to lose a star...

We sat in the nook right under the stairs and the waiters and customers going up and down tended to be heavy-footed which was a bit distracting. However, our lunch was excellent. Two of us ordered the scrambled eggs with salmon, onion, and cream cheese, and it was delicious. The eggs were cooked just right and were served right in the pan with a side of tasty small potato cubes. The cobb salad was enjoyed by the third member of our party. We also ordered a side of various breads that were so yummy you could have filled up on just that. We also each had an iced latte - perfect on a warm day. Definitely recommend.

Really good food (had the smoked salmon scrambled) and it came really quickly. Busy even on a Tuesday lunchtime. Would definitely return

This is a charming but very cosy spot. Food was good comfort food on a chilly night. One guest loved the chicken pot pie. Drinks were inventive and solid.

As many reviewers have already noted, this is an excellent place for brunch. The omelets are superb with fresh ingredients and well prepared. The selection of breads and bake goods is exceptional. The juices are all freshly squeezed and refreshing. The pancakes and French bread are quite fine as well. The service is friendly, helpful and very accommodating. The place is somewhat on the noisy side but not uncomfortably so. There is a very high energy feel to the place. And while the lines to get in are long (they do not take reservations for brunch), it moves quickly and the wait is far less than the line length suggests. Definitely worth the wait.

A charming atmosphere with excellent food! We missed our reservations elsewhere and Friend of a Farmer was able to slide our group of 7 in at the last minute. We were seated in an adorable little alcove beneath the stairs that only held our table, so it was nice and quiet with the perfect decibel of music playing. We were 3 generations on a girls' Christmas trip and everyone found something on the menu that they enjoyed. We arrived at 3 pm and could only order from the "brunch" menu, but they still had a nice variety of salads and sandwiches available. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. My nearly 80-year-old mom couldn't stop raving about the pot pie she ordered and my grain bowl was one of the best meals I had on our trip! This farm wife from southern Minnesota appreciated everything about the experience!

We went three times to have breakfast at this place, which is in the super nice Gramercy park area. The place is really nice and you can smell fruits and vegetables while seating as these are placed in farmer's style jars around the place. The food is delicious and the waiters are nice. The omelettes are great, the porridge with fruits is delicious. The choice of bread is great. I'd go back to this place.

Unfortunately, I visited on a holiday, which required a prix fixe menu with a set price and a required tip add-on. The place was bustling, crowded, and the staff, especially the hostess, was brusque, dismissive, colder to the guests than the weather. The waitstaff didn't seem to have much time to spend at the table with guests, and why should they when their tip was secure. The menu included a list of gins available in the bar, all at the same cost. Ordering a gin martini, I expected to pay the price on the menu for one of the house gins. However, I was charged a higher fee, as the bartender, or waiter, chose Hendricks, with an uncharge. I have nothing but compliments for the food itself, Perhaps, the experience would be better with a hostess and waitstaff less stressed and overworked than on a holiday.

This restaurant was such a pleasant surprise from the food to the ambiance. It was like a vacation. The building must have been a home at one time and the dinning areas are so cozy with a country flair. Traditional walled papered rooms one with a lovey fireplace sets the tone for complete relaxation. They served comfort food, great for a cold night. We had chicken pot pie, Shepard's pie, salmon over barley with butternut squash and traditional turkey dinner. Everything was just perfect and dinner with wine, appetizers and dessert was well priced. Definitely will be back to try brunch and other seasonal items.

Fabulous breakfast! We had the Omelettes, Scrambled egg with buttermilk pancakes and Eggs Benedict. Absolutely delicious, fantastic quality cooked to order.

Lovely spot for breakfast, brunch, or lunch if weather good. Small outdoor tables on quiet tree lined gramercy park street. Delicious breakfast food, wonderful selection of juices and teas. Would recommend but unfortunately not on a daily basis due to high price. But worth every penny on a beautiful day.

I recently dined at "Friend of a Farmer" for the second time. As my title implies, it is a very noisy environment, so if you want to combine a meaningful conversation, while you eat your dinner, I would look for another venue. In spite of this, the restaurant appears to be very popular, as reservations are mandatory, if you want to be seated immediately upon your arrival. Both times I had dinner at "Friend of a Farmer", I was seated upstairs, where the tables are VERY CLOSE to one another. If you have anything "private" to talk about with your dining partner, this is NOT the place for you. Food was good, but nothing to rave about.

We came here because the name sounded like a farm-to-table restaurant. The look and feel is farm-to-table, the menu for lunch was pretty limited. Burger was ok, and my daughter's fish was swimming in butter. Their sweet breads were very good, but again seemed to focus on their breakfast and brunch focus. Tables upstairs were way too tight for us, so we sat outside.

Loved the atmosphere of this quaint Gramercy Park restaurant! Stopped in for Sunday Breakfast/Brunch on a rainy Sunday morning. Great place to escape the rain and fuel for the day. Had the Farmer's Market Omelette with a side of bacon and coffee. The omelette and potatoes were well seasoned and full of fresh ingredients. The bacon was crispy and the coffee strong! Service was attentive. Loved the charm of this great restaurant. Definitely want to visit again.

We were staying at the Gramercy Park Hotel and asked the concierge where we could get a nice breakfast. We walked a couple of blocks and since we arrived early on a Sunday (9am), we were able to get seated immediately. Service was fast and friendly. The French press coffee is amazing. Our classic Boomer Special breakfast was delicious and it was a lot of food. It’s definitely a relaxing brunch scene and lovely to sit on the patio and notice the occasional celebrity walking by. Plus the Gramercy Park neighborhood is amazing with its lovely park and some shooting locations from my favorite movies and TV series.

Had dinner here with my cousin while in NYC on business. Cool restaurant in a great neighborhood. Loved the bread they bring out before the meal, so much that we asked for it for dessert.

Worth the wait not so much. From a kitchen switch causing the place to open almost 30 minutes late, to the Luke warm food that was served very late. We were the First table seated and about the last ones served. Table next to us was upset with our whole experience. Half of the food not eaten as it was not at all a good experience. Sorry people an actual fail in my book. Your experience will hopefully not be the same as ours. Manager comped the food but would have been better if he food had been on point.

Rushed service. Waiter was mopping floor while seating us. Seemed dark and in need of repairs. Shouls gave gone to Petes tavern across the street

We took a group of 10 people here. We ordered fairly low end wine and local beers. All were ok. Service was very good. Unfortunately, in this group of 10, only one dish was outstanding, the ribs. Feedback on all other dishes was that they were average, to poor. I had the halibut, and it was most definitely poor. On the up side, the price was below our expectations, at just $800 for 10 people with several bittles of wine and beers. If you came here and got the ribs, only, this place would be a 5, for food, service and price. Bit as a group, with mixed orders, we have to drop it down to a 3, even with the great service and price.

Despite having booked in September for our Christmas dinner here, we were allocated to the “cabin”which was a nicely decorated by cold and cramp outbuilding on the Main Street. This should have been made clear to us on booking as would have chosen to eat elsewhere. Food was ok but service was poorer than expected and that cabin was freezing cold, the weather can be blamed but I strongly suggest you eat in the main restaurant of don’t eat there at all. Really disappointing despite looking forward to this meal with my family.

The food was so good. We had two different pies and both were delicious. It was food that you never wanted to end and we've recommended to all our friends. It's homely décor and is very relaxing inside and the staff are super polite.

Perfect choice for a girlfriends’ reunion brunch in NYC. My friend arrived early to briefly wait in line to be seated. The pandemic has most NYC eateries building little dining cabins on the street outside, and this one was delightfully decorated with farmhouse baskets. Server took care of us and never rushed us even though we gabbed at the table for a couple of hours. My Healthy Farmer egg white omelet came with pommes frites, but you could order fruit. My friend’s pumpkin pancakes looked awesome. Only drawback is the coffee served in a press, which tends to produce a lot of coffee grounds and I ended up with a mouthful. $18 seems like a lot for an omelet but normal for New York. Easy walk from the Union Square metro.

Found this little gem the morning we were leaving NYC. Went for breakfast and we weren't disappointed. We were a party of 4 and got a table straight away. The place is very old world, country style with open fire upstairs. The décor is very tastefully done and gives a lovely homely cosy feel to the place. Two of us had the omelette served with home fried potatoes and two had the Boomer special of sausage, scrambled eggs, pancakes and fried potatoes. Food was delicious and the price was reasonable. Service was excellent. Overall a really nice place to eat only wish we had found it at the beginning of our trip.

The setting (on two floors) is cute but on a weekday morning for a business breakfast--with advance reservations--we were told the only . seats available were on high chairs by the bar. Clearly the place either overbooks or doesn't care to make a distinction in reservations between actual tables and casual seats by the bar. The food--lots of eggs choices--was ok but the bartender seemed surprisingly busy and inattentive, and clearly the hostess doesn't give a damn.

Really enjoyed my visit here - the menu is good wholesome food. I had the turkey which was really delicious! The cocktails were great too. The decor is very old fashioned but this adds to the whole ambience.

Friend of the Farmer is very warm and inviting. The baskets of fruits and vegetables on the stairs adds to the ambiance. We enjoyed the Shepard's Pie and the Tri-colored spaghetti with shrimp and sun dried tomatoes. The wines we selected were perfect with our meals. Unfortunately, we had no room for dessert. Service was friendly and attentive.

Stopped in here while we were in neighborhood. It's a beer, burger and fries place more than anything and can be noisy. Tables can get sticky from the food that falls off the paper placemats. They have other things on the menu of course but it's not a place to experiment. Staff is okay. Wouldn't come back here to eat again.

We arrived early due to not being sure on location as tourists. We were sat at the bar for few minutes and we were then seated at our table. We were thankful as did not expect to be seated before our reserved time. The food was tasty and our waitress was friendly. Sadly on the downside our 4 courses were served super speedy with no time to allow the course we had just eaten to go down. We decided to take our dessert away as we could not stomach it after eating 3 courses so close together. The manager needs to time in breaks between courses for people to be allowed to savour their food.

Quaint little place in Gramercy Park. You will not be disappointed. Chicken Pot Pie to die for! Also the Terry Allen Chicken. Reservations are good!

This was a great choice for dinner. Nice, slow food: which is seasonal food made with local ingredients. we both had the salad and salmon.

My dinner was excellent. The chicken dish was delicious and came out hot. I’m sooo tired of lukewarm food. The chicken was on top of some kind of yummy bread, then shredded apples and cheddar cheese, served over mashed potatoes.it was topped with a delicious sauce with raisins. I had not made a reservation and ate at the bar which was fine and remarkably quiet. Not a scene sort of place.

This place has one of the best pancakes in New York. They do have the classic buttermilk, but also have alternatives live pumpkin pancake. Egg are really good also. Great ambiance!

We were looking for a brunch place, and came upon this restaurant, which had a line waiting to go in. They featured indoor seating and outside seating, in a heated covered shed. We opted to be seated outside as there was availability with no waiting. The shed was warm and decorated. The server was friendly and attentive and patiently answered our questions. I ordered pumpkin pancakes with walnuts and my friend ordered apple pancakes. Both were exceptional and came with homemade butter/maple syrup combination. Prices were comparable to restaurants in the area. Highly recommend!

My husband and I had brunch here and not only was it delicious, but we had great service, and the atmosphere was so nice. Very casual and laid back, but still nice! Would definitely recommend to a friend!

Not Vegan friendly. Waiter didn't even try to offer any options. I had a juice that was about 6oz. For 10$. Lots of flies in the window where I was sitting. I always try something once. Will not ever go again.

Came for breakfast. Sat outside with a small dog. Staff were friendly. Good iced coffee and several juices/smoothies. Mom ordered an omelette which she raved about. I had pumpkin pancakes and they were fantastic. No complaints. Would definitely return again.

Just what we felt like. Feels like we are out of town on a farm, great vibe and lovely crafty venue.

Really lovely ambience but the food was really below average. Basically comfort food but not the good kind. I won't go back.

We walked in for brunch around 9:30 on a Sunday and got right in with a party of 4. Don't lose sight of the hostess, as it is a maze through the rooms! Got seated at a 4 top tucked between 2 others along a banquette. Not much room to move around and barely room for the servers. We determined there were 22 patrons in a 12 x 12 room...wow! Omelettes came in hot cast iron skillets, pumpkin pancakes were great, but get the blueberry pancakes...they are chock-full of blueberries! Big meals, enough that 3 of 4 of us had leftovers.

Visited on a Friday during Lent. The fish special, Snapper with Chipotle was excellent. So was the fried oyster appetizer (didn't know that I like creamed kale). The decor is inviting, reminiscent of my childhood in Vermont, but VERY dark. I did find it a bit cramped, but the wait staff made up for any loss of privacy. The staff here is fantastic. Attentive, extremely polite and never overbearing. I hope to return next time I'm in the neighborhood.

The best thing are the omelettes. They serve them directly in the pan they are cooked in, so they get to the table nice and hot. Their juices are very good, although very tiny in relation to the price. Also the bizques are fenomenal.

I met a good friend for coffee and breakfast at this charming spot, and we loved our morning there. It did eventually get pretty busy, but when we arrived at 8:00 on a Friday morning, we were virtually alone upstairs. Big baskets of apples, squash and potatoes serve as decor, with raw wood rafters and a blazing fireplace suggesting an old farmhouse. The food was good, certainly, and the service was friendly, but the real selling feature of this place is the way it looks and feels.

Delicious food. Very fresh. I Had the salmon and it was “Melt in your mouth good.” Others had the short ribs and the filet Mignon. All Dishes were delicious. The farmhouse DECOR was a plus as you felt like you were dining in a country inn. I look forward to returning again.

Terrific find, great service with organic ingredients. All on table had traditional type dishes - with added flair. Reasonably priced. The numbers of people waiting for tables said a lot!!

We waited an hour for some (mediocre) food and an obscene coffee (the worst drunk in Ny, only thing arrived in decent times). The second part of the order never arrived because after an hour of waiting we left. I pointed everything out to the manager who did not bat an eyelid, no one apologized, no one told us if there had been an oversight on our order. It is simply unacceptable.

We enjoyed a good brunch today. The food was well-prepared and the service was timely. We were seated upstairs. Several reviewers commented on being cramped. We were there late morning on a Tuesday and they were not busy. It was very pleasant - but it could feel cramped were all the tables full. I had the Salmon Bennie - delish.

Food very nice. Hostess blech- rude and impersonal. Granted - we are from Tennessee and probably locals are used to this and accept it. This place wouldn’t last a month back home. Wait staff must be related to hostess. Move ‘em in, move ‘em out. Did I mention that mimosas were $15 each! Obvious sticker shock since I hadn’t drank in NYC in 10 years. Dang! Pretty good however but we get the same thing for $3. It is what it is but even so, we had enough great experiences in manhattan to know this was not the rule but the exception. Locals already know this but most restaurants very tight on seating. Have to be- I get it. Just be ready visitors..

Returning to a local place with a now local friend! A friend of mine, local from Gramercy park,!had taken me there years ago. Busy place, packed and the service is so so impersonal that I felt poor for having dragged my friend to a place I remembered friendlier.... our waiter was sweet and nice but felt sincerely so overwhelmed and quiet and sad that you almost felt bad for him ... Let see it was because of the holidays and the crowd everywhere around ... Is that place now a touristic spot ???? Seems like it .... :-(

I thought this place was great and the service amazing. Simple menu with nice brunch options, and the food was really good. The atmosphere was great and can’t wait to go back to try their dinner menu.

This place was recommended to us by a local and so we went for lunch. We had intended to get breakfast but arrived too late so stuck around for lunch instead. The selection was great and I was relieved to see a few healthy options after a few days of overindulging. The food was lovely: I had a wonderful chicken salad and my husband had a very filling omelette. Would definitely recommend this place (great location too).

Went to the 71st St location for an early dinner. The food was excellent — mushroom bruschetta , chicken pot pie, and especially the beef short rib. The service was also excellent, attentive and knowledgeable. Will definitely go back.

We wandered by on our way to Union Square Market and decided to stop for lunch. The service was good and the food excellent. I had the tuna sandwich which is made with lowfat collage cheese and fresh dill. Delicious, especially the homemade wheat bread. My husband had the salmon scramble. Also delicious. Just the right amount of food. We sat outside which was nice. The flower boxes provide a good separation from the sidewalk and street so you don't feel like you're eating in the middle of traffic.

My wife and I are visiting NYC and staying close by. We like to dine at local places and used Trip Advisor to select this place. We walked into a very small place and only saw one table. The hostess sat us at a bar facing the street but it was just to right for us. We decided to go next door to another great spot, Irving Farms. We told the hostess our concern and she said one moment. She then took us upstairs where more tables and people were sitting. Had the coffee, French Press, granola with yogurt along with healthy omelette. All was superb. Highly recommend.

This is like walking into a someones farm house. The say it is "made of warmth and wood" and they have that spot on. We can placed somewhere far away, in the loft, and clearly every inch of this house was taken. The tables were packed. I always love when the restaurant brings you an amuse-bouche and here we were given two. The portion of Mussels I had were well prepared and rather generous for an appetiser. The old fashioned chicken pot pie was perfect for the windy weather and I enjoyed the sea scallops. If you are looking for comfort and nice food, and an oasis of rural idyll in the middle of hectic Manhattan, this is the place to go. Comfort food at its best

Food was very good. But it was Crowded and noisy on a Saturday at 1pm. 20 minute wait. Hostess was irritable.

We had a good dinner, some nice quality produce and interesting cocktails. The restaurant is trying to be a higher level than it current manages, and is over-charging for what is on offer. You can spend money on a good bottle of red, but it will be served far too cold and the staff are fairly uninformed as to the wines and their provenance. The portions are unmanageably large and lack refinement. Some things are also somewhat mos-labelled: the soufflé is a Browne slice and bears no resemblance to a soufflé and the shepherds pie uses beef. Overall the food is tasty and the staff are friendly, but they need to reduce their prices or commit to becoming something in the higher price bracket with improvements to the menu.

This place is worth dining at! You can make a reservation during the weekdays, but weekends you wait on line outside. The food is extremely fresh and so good! You can tell it’s all homemade.

Food was really delicious so we were enjoying ourselves... until our waiter, Harrison, disappeared midway through our meal. We got the host's attention...he acknowledged us but didn't go find him. I had to get up, go to the front, find a woman, asked her where our waiter was, she said she would get him...she went over to the computer instead of even asking anyone to find him (let alone try to find him herself). Finally Harrison decided to come back...no apology. Ordered another round of drinks. He futzed around with water...went outside to chat on the patio... no sense of urgency. Too bad because it could've been a lovely night.

We were seated in the back room. At first we thought they would forget about us, but they didn't. Started with a Cheeseboard and Avacado Tartare. Both were delicious! Entrees we had chicken pot pie and shepards pie. Both were not good. Go for apps and a nice glass of wine. P.S. The restaurant is very dark.

A very different and unusual spot for lunch. The menu is wholesome and nutritious and there is something for everyone. Keep in mind that when busy, the service slows, so only go if you are with a good friend or two and want to chat for awhile.

We had breakfast here. All good and big portions. Service was good and attentive. We were seated upstairs, a rather small place but we like the ambiance. The only downside, it’s rather overpriced.

This was our first trip to New York City and we chose Friend of a Farmer because it was an easy walk from our hotel. We were very happy with our choice. The decor is country and warm and inviting. Staff was friendly and helpful and the food was great! I guess the only con I can think of was that they didn’t open until 8:00 am, so we had a little wait. Two of our party had Boomer Special which included yummy homemade blueberry pancakes. I had the fruit plate which was amazing and a slice of homemade lemon bread which was really good too!

Transporting! Great ambiance, candles, wood, cozy spaces. Amazing food and service. Baked Brie was delicious and paired with the Pinot noir so well. Cauliflower entree very good as well. Can't wait to return!

I live in NYC & went for brunch with a friend. Long lines & the quality of the food is terrible. I ordered eggs Florentine and the eggs were hard, the spinach were raw (3 per bread) and potatoes overcooked. On top, I left my leather glove on my way out next to the table, I realized it and called. They told me they found it and I gave them my name to keep it until I could go to pick it up next day. I could not make it next day to pick it up but the following day in the morning the globe was not there because they decided to throw it away, although, I called, left my name and it was a beautiful leather glove which I said I was going to go and pick it. Bad food, worst service, zero consideration. There are plenty of restaurants in the city serving great brunch. I will not be coming to this one ever again. And I will spread the voice too.

Last evening I visited this venue for the fourth time.. It is special. The atmosphere feels like a new england inn.. the cornbread a delight The oyster and shrimp small plates were wonderful The salad excellent The apple pie desert unbeliveable The service great A little pricely for a local place... but worth it once in a while

For thirty years, Friend of a Farmer has continued to be a family owned business offering some of the freshest locally grown food you will find in NYC. The ambiance is similar to a country inn found in update New York, but here it is, right on Irving Place near Gramercy Park. The food is brought in from local farms, as are the local spirits (beers and wines). Garden fresh vegetables, grass fed beef, farm fresh eggs and freshly brewed coffee top the food list. On warmer days you can sit outside and watch the people go by. Take a seat at the bar or in the quaint little first floor dining room. The second floor is rustic, charming and offers a fireplace for the chillier days and nights. There can be a wait for breakfast and brunch on the weekends (no reservations for weekend Brunch, but the food is worth the wait.). However, for supper (as they call it), I would recommend making reservations. The cuisine here is simply delicious. It is as if you are the only guest at a friend’s country home and they are preparing the meal just for you. This could be one of the reasons the place is usually packed. The other is probably the service. So friendly, so accommodating, so welcoming. This family prides themselves in offering this homestyle country dining experience to one and all, so if you are in the city, make it a point to dine here and simply appreciate the fine food and service offered. A special Thanksgiving Dinner is served, reserve ahead!

I liked the farmer omelet ...the weather and the seating area outside was nice . The waitress were helpful .

The crab eggs Benedict were the best we’ve ever had! The bacon was crispy and delicious. They serve a homemade chipotle sauce that was really good. The staff was very friendly and professional. I would definitely eat here again!

There were five of us here for dinner and we were, I am sure, seated at a round table that should only have been for four. It was cramped and we were also very close to the other tables upstairs, where it is hot and it is noisy. But, we had a great evening here, with really good food presented well and served nicely, with good wine and prices that are not outrageous. One of our party was vegetarian and he appreciated the inventive vegetarian dishes and two of us really enjoyed the Shepherds Pie - clearly a house speciality. A really nice place to come for casual dining - just don't expect a lot of space and quiet!

Friend of a Farmer is really a fun restaurant with an obvious classic farmhouse decor. The service was excellent, and our waiter was friendly and could not be more accommodating. The food was excellent and I will let the pictures speak for itself. I highly recommend it.

After a day of walking tooling for a new place to live - stumbled onto this great place to eat. You feel like you are eating fresh food. Very creative menu.

This place is amazing, the food is fresh and tasty with a varied menu. The place was packed and the atmosphere was buzzing. If you are in New York it's worth a trip. A New Yorker introduced me to this place.

In a quiet part of the city, Friend is a darkish, oldish, creekidity, tightish eatery that has a twist on the usual neighborhood eatery fare. You feel very at ease here. There many small rooms on the street level and upstairs. While the tables may see close and may seem smallish in themselves, they are spacious enough to dine thru. Full bar and diverse wines to select from. The staff is very hospitable to you. Makes suggestions and what he feels other patrons order frequently. Entrees are full meals like filet, scallops, Shepard’s pie or Chicken Pot pie. Lighter fares of salads with salmon were available. Food service wasn’t slow. Atmosphere is their theme with the their menu. Try it if you in the neighborhood.

This restaurant is perfect for a cozy rainy morning brunch. It is a very inviting atmosphere with friendly service, a menu for everyone, and good food. A little overpriced.

The restaurant was a perfect spot for brunch. Charming and unassuming with great food, servers, and background music :). We loved it.

On a recent trip to NYC from London, we went to 'Friend of a Farmer' for brunch and it was fantastic. Great food and wonderful service! I highly recommend this place - it had a lovely atmosphere.

Lovely interior and relaxing paced lunch, and that is really what you are paying for. Food was fine.

I have had brunch here before, but this was my first time eating dinner after work here. The same high quality of food was present, as was the imaginative use of putting together an authentic shepherds pie whilst feeling modern. Technically, I think it was a “cottage” pie, as it had some veggies (peas and carrots) in with the lamb meat.

We ate upstairs, by the fireplace, which looks real but is just made of cobbled together parts, and burns gas. Beautiful, but faux. Anyway, great food and service. Apple pancakes and blueberry muffins were perfect.

I joined friends for Saturday brunch here, with no idea what it might be like. There was a decent sized line outside to start with, but it moved quickly, and was definitely a testament to the good food to be had there. Everyone enjoyed what they ordered, and mine was no exception: poached eggs over corned beef hash, and this was not your usual diner fare - this was hand-but cubes of corned beef, with potatoes and onions and peppers, all cooked and served deliciously. I will definitely go back there again.

Nice place but dimly lit. Special dishes not in line with my tastes, the chicken with mashed potatoes was seasoned with an unpleasant sweet sauce, good but not exceptional desserts, medium portions and high price for what we ate, in my opinion opinion, even if we are in NYC

We came here for Christmas dinner and we were all very disappointed, the service was very slow and our waiter was very rude. We really struggled to get any service from him, food took ages to arrive and was very disappointed and over priced, my wife found a black hair in her meal, which put us off eating the rest of our meals. Due to these issues we only left a 20 dollar tip. The waiter became very aggressive and threatening towards us to the point the lady behind the desk had to tell him to calm down, he then stood in front of the door and blocked our exit shouting these people aren’t tipping, this really upset my young children, I wasn’t going to be bullied into leaving more of a tip. They also breached the Covid rules by allowing us to eat inside with unvaccinated children, we didn’t realise we weren’t allowed inside at this point. I would suggest that the management look at training their staff properly

We sat at the bar and needed to drag the bartender away from their cell phone to order our first drink. It did not get any better as we ordered dinner and tried to ask for another drink. The food is average and my pasta was covered in oil and warm at best. For the price it was pretty awful.

This restaurant was an absolute delight! It is on a lovely street, classy outdoor seating is available, and the interior of the restaurant transports you out of the city and into a country home. There are beautiful fireplaces and many striking and interesting decor to look at. French jazz was playing, but not so loud that you couldn’t have a conversation comfortably. The restaurant was spotless, service was quick (lunch on a summer Monday – no reservations needed) and attentive. The best part… the food was delicious!!! I had the eggs benedict on house made cheddar biscuits and enjoyed every bite. I immediately texted friends and family about how much I enjoyed my Friend of a Farmer experience and I hope to visit again soon.

This is an adorable place in a fantastic location. Its several rooms for dining and drinking are decorated like a farmhouse - plenty of wood, several fires, pretty old-fashioned wallpaper, tons of baskets of vegetables and fruits promising that farm to table local and seasonal approach. But the food is a letdown, especially for the price. The avocado and pita chips appetizer was nothing special. Nor were the crab cakes. The braised beef ribs were a little better -rich comfort food on a cold night. A waiter brought us a complementary slab of cornbread with a slightly bitter apple compote - an appealing gesture but it wasn't that tasty.

Came here with a friend from out of town to catch up and it was the perfect spot! Ambiance was super cute. Food wise, the skillets were huge, delicious and very filling! PLEASE get their French Press. It's awesome. The key to this place is to get their early since it gets busy really fast!

The restaurant is focused on sustainability and has a somewhat small menu but the dishes are creative and the food was delicious. Services was friendly. My only issue is the dishes were a bit small but overall we had a great meal.

This place could not be better. The ambiance is clean, comfortable, and cozy. The service was always prompt, friendly, knowledgable, and enthusiastic. The food was out of this world good. All three of us were so happy with our meals. We started with the plate of freshly cooked breads (zucchini, lemon, chocolate banana, and corn)---these were each supremely tasty. The Crab Bennie was crazy good with lots of crab on a sturdy scone-like bread; she inhaled it, and that's no easy feat given the size of it. The other two of us got the Boomer Special. She got the buttermilk pancakes, bacon, and eggs; he got the French Toast, bacon, and eggs. The eggs come scrambled with a bit of cheese mixed in; each was a 3-egg serving. The bacon is thick-cut and very flavorful. The pancakes were thick and perfectly cooked with a flavorful batter. The French Toast was done with apple cinnamon raisin bread; I've never had better. The coffee was also absolutely spot-on. The best breakfast I think I've ever had.

We went there twice - in the same night! The food was so good that when we left our table after eating and our daughter texted asking if we had eaten yet - we said yes but we would go back to this place and meet her. The service was friendly and the food was prepared perfectly. It seemed simple, yet elegant and tasty. The atmosphere was comfortable despite being a small place. Oh and try the pot pie!

I miss this Sunday brunch place, especially during the Fall. Perfect fare for your hangover needs and in a great location. Treat yourself to the mimosas.

This restaurant serves frim fresh food, and I liked the macarone and cheese as an entree. The main dining room and the restrooms are up a flight of stairs, so I sat at the bar.

Can't believe I never went to this place when I was living in NYC. GREAT place. Good food and the ambience is inspired as a Vermont farm house <3 Really reminds me of Vermont, which I loved.

The omelettes and cheddar biscuits were really good, however we really couldn't enjoy the meal because of the cramped quarters. We were placed upstairs, which seemed to me like a fire trap. It was so crowded and so uncomfortable. The hostess was quite rude as well. Could it be that we were older than the usual crowd ? Two young women got a very comfortable table for four while four of us were squeezed in a corner. Agism ? I hope not. We have been going to brunch for the last 30 years, but we will not be coming back here.

We went here on Christmas Day for dinner - the food was great as was the service but not very Christmassy! I would have thought more effort would be made for a Christmas Day meal especially as we were with our children! The food was fab - great flavours and very well cooked! Very large portions as well!

Sat outside on beautiful spring day. Great people watching. Waitress seemed a little preoccupied. Brought drinks right over after taking order. Entrees took quite awhile, while totally forgetting soup. "Oh yeah...sorry". The omelets are basically a disk of scrambled eggs folded over with the fixings inside. Not cooked into the egg. Ingredients were fresh but just not how we like an omelet. White fish and lox platter was a major let down. Tomato was not really ripe, bagel wasn't really a bagel, just a round flat piece of bread with a hole and hard. The brown stuff wasn't cleaned off the edges of the lox, which kinda grossed me out. The 2 tablespoons of cream cheese was not enough for one side of bagel let alone two. I guess I expected more from a place with so many good reviews or maybe I'm just spoiled by awesome Long Island bagels places. Most likely will not return.

Loved this place! Felt like taking a step back in time, from the quaint setting to the music played- 70's- on our Sunday morning brunch with family. The Boomer was awesome! The blueberry pancakes, eggs, bacon, potatoes were great. We had French press coffee and fresh squeezed orange juice. Service was excellent.

Worth seeking out at the far end of Irving Place ( near Union Square). It is snug but cozy with outdoor seating on warm days and a working fireplace on cold nights. The food is farm to table. Food is both creative and fresh. The service by our waiter, David Jewel, was exceptional . He tended to our many requests with a smile and true professionalism. He worked within our budget and offered valuable suggestions to make for a truly winning dining experience. Visit the Farm, you won't be disappointed !

The decor tries to mimic a New England inn but in the middle of crowded NYC. We arrived early so no wait at all for breakfast. The tables are really cramped and the chairs are uncomfortable. You have to take care not to knock other diners or their food for. A large selection of breakfast items. Scrambled eggs were ok but nothing special. The apple pancakes were really good. If there is no line it is a good spot for breakfast but I would not wait in the cold for it.

As a pre-concert repast we selected this place because itself for fresh from the farmer's market food...and they did not disappoint. Everthing is made-to-order so remember that it might take just a tad longer to get your food but it is worth the wait. The crab cakes were warm and so freshly cooked they were still steaming.

Fabulous setting - feels like eating in a Vermont Inn in the middle of Manhattan! Quiet street. Food was delicious... omelets served in the same cast iron skillet they are cooked in... beautifully carmelized on the bottom and fluffy throughout. French press coffee - amazing - ground fresh daily.

Great breakfast options and the blueberry pancakes were divine. Nice decor making it homely and rustic.

Met family after flying in for a few days. Had an upstairs location for our table of 9, so can't talk to atmosphere. Duck breast was excellent. Also ordered one of the specialty margaritas. It, along with the duck was recommend by the waiter, so didn't pay much attention. It was very hot!! Turns out it had a special jalapeño syrup. As I'm not a big fan of peppers so I googled for potential health benefits. Turns out they contain Capsaicin, a natural pain reliever!! After walking about 4 miles around town on a couple of bum legs, it was just what I needed. I had a second!! Everyone had a different dish and all were excellent. No inexpensive, $300 for 9 before drinks, but very good.

This place was recommended to us by a clerk at a nearby store. The setting is adorable. However, the entrance is very crowded and the host scolded us to close the door, there was no where to go! After we were seated, we ordered the oatmeal and some eggs, they were very slow in coming and we never got any cream and sugar for the coffee. The waitress didn't seem to know to check on us....

We were greeted warmly by the hostess and went right to our table. The service was great and the food was even better and all for a reasonable price. My wife and I will definitely return.

My daughter and I decided to have brunch at Friend of a Farmer. I had been there for dinner, but never for brunch. We walked up to the restaurant and found a line waiting to get in. We got in line. We quickly realized that if you were a party of 3 or a party of 4, you would be seated within about 5 minutes of your getting in line. Parties of 2 waited longer. We waited about 45 minutes. (My daughter looked up other restaurants but figured they were all probably busy.) Once in, we sat a a small table on the second floor; each table had about 5 inches between them. So, no privacy. We ordered coffee - cafe latte for me, french press for her. She asked for milk. The waiter said she would get it. About 10 minutes later, the waiter put a small free appetizer on the table. My daughter repeated her request for milk. The waiter snapped at her and said "I'm getting it!" More time goes by. We ask a passing waiter for milk and he says, "oh, she'll get it for you." The waiter comes back to find out how we like our meals. My daughter again requests the milk. The waiter goes and brings back milk in a little plastic cup like the ones you put condiments in at McDonald's. She ordered the south west wrap and said it was very good. I had the smoked salmon platter. I don't know where the bagel came from, but it certainly was no NYC bagel. Plenty of veggies, but a cup with about 1 tablespoon of cream cheese and three tiny pieces of salmon. Very disappointing. The dinners I have had at this restaurant have been excellent. I will stick to nighttime dining.

Absolutely great, we had brunch and it was simply fantastic, from the small apple cake when you sat down, to the quality of service. The omlettes were brilliant. Highly recommend.

By far one of the best brunch spots in New York City. The restaurant has a down to earth and relaxed atmosphere. The food tastes homemade and the portion sizes are decent sized. I love the buttermilk pancakes!!

Great meal, friendly service. We had a nice evening after a long day in New York. We are two sisters who slept in nearby National Art Club. We would recommend this place to anyone!

This was our second visit to this neighborhood restaurant and it impressed again. Carl is a knowledgeable and friendly server and knows how to present options. Nice wines and tasty food. We’ll be back.

I have now visited friend of a farmer twice, the first time was fine. This time was poor, service was slow and the food wasn’t great. My partner had eggs which were under cooked. It’s fine but I feel over priced for what you get. Much better places to go and have breakfast in nyc.

This was my second visit. This time I added the Avocado Tartar as a preface to my Chicken Pot Pie. Both were nicely prepared and delicious. I was a bit concerned with my first visit due to the uneven reviews I read. After a very good first visit and another second one I am satisfied that this restaurant will stay on my list for Gramercy Park dining. I also want to add a point on their hospitality. I arrived about an hour before my reservation. You never know with New York traffic. They offered to allow me to take my table. Add to that the fact that my friend arrived 20 minutes late. Few places would have had the patience they showed me. Good service counts and they were excellent. Thank you, my Friend of a Farmer.

This little restaurant is an oasis in NYC. You step inside and you're immediately absorbed by the atmosphere, decor and gracious staff. Baskets of produce line the stairs and a series of small dining areas make for a unique experience. The food is excellent and the service very good. I ate the Herb Crusted Cod with sauteed spinach and Cannellini beans which was beautifully cooked and presented. I highly recommend this restaurant and will go again on another visit to the city.

Nice cizy restaurant, came here for lunch and inside. A very comfortable and New England-ish setting. The upstairs has bowls of fruits and vegetables lying around, which is very interesting. The omelettes were good, though they mush everything into the eggs. The pancakes were far better. Fresh and fluffy. The biggest complaint would be the sticky tables and floor. Even the carpets on the stairs leading up to the toilet upstairs was on the gross side. Service was very good though, but probably won't come back again.

I've been here many times, and dined inside and out. The avocado tartare was fresh and flavorful, the citrus chips added some needed complexity. The rustic apple pie is large enough for two and is best when they have vanilla ice cream for it. Service was wonderful. The ambiance is lovely. No fault of the restaurant: I just wish that Americans didn't talk so loud; they seem to assume that others want to hear the most depressing details of their keeping-up-with-the-Joneses lifestyle. Deliver me!

We love this restaurant. Every time we have been, the food has been good, service consistent, and a homey, cozy atmosphere. Upstairs or sidewalk seating is fun.

We went to this restaurant for brunch on a Sunday. They do not take reservations. We waited less ten 20 minutes before being seated. Service was efficient and professionale. Food was excellent. We both took omelettes, and they were very tasty. I will go back.

Though I live a block away, I hadn't been to Friend of A Farmer in for 15 years. Since then it has increased in popularity and has improved their menu. The breakfast here recently was very good. We order the corn waffles, the apple pancakes, the eggs Benedict -- all very good and well prepared. The cappuccino was not of the standard of the next door Irving Farm, but the pressed coffee was good. Service was excellent. The restaurant is in a nice old NY setting. Reservations are suggested.

What a sweet spot this is. We were there for a mid week brunch.Requested an outdoor table on a beautiful day. Menu & reviews are correct for brunch, brunch here is a winner. Food was delicious & the servers were very friendly & knowledgeable.A very pleasant experience.

My husband and I made a special trip to this restaurant as it was recommended by a friend. The trip was worth it! The restaurant is a quaint space on Irving Place. We sat on the patio - it was a lovely day. Initially, the hostess who greeted us seemed a little put out as there were a couple of families who followed us to the front. We found a seat but she ended up having to turn away the family. Her mood seemed better when there were no people waiting. My husband ordered an omelette and I ordered the pumpkin pancakes. Both meals were delicious. The coffee was also very fresh and smelled amazing. Everything tasted homemade. Would definitely go back again!

Everything is practically homemade. Grass fed beef. Had the burger and fries which were amazing!!! Had the ice cream sandwich which was banana bread with ice cream. So amazing!!! Love the area! Would return again!

We did not have a reservation so we did have to wait about 5 minutes. There was bar seating but we decided to wait for a table. Terrence waited on us and gave us excellent service. My son got the Chicken Pot Pie ($16.00) which was served in a single container and looked like my grandmother made it - wonderful. He said it was very good and he ate the entire serving. I ordered the grass fed Barn Burger ($17.00) which came with a side of fries. It was cooked just a tad too rare for me but it tasted delicious. The fries were good as well. I would eat here again.

We went to this charming restaurant on Sunday for lunch; It doesn't take reservations but the line moves smoothly. Perfect for a brunch or lunch, excellent choice of both savory and sweet. Attentive and helpful staff.

We had dinner at the upper west location and enjoyed the outdoor patio. Although it was a hot, summer day the fans made it pleasant. Also arriving at 7 pm the outside temperature was beginning to dip. MENU- it was a newer summer menu and I had the crab cakes with corn. Absolutely delicious!!! Also enjoyed the ricotta crostini as appetizer with a coconut infused tequila margarita. Would order this exact offering again!!!

I just finished dinner with my son, I thought I saw something run under the radiator, than a few minutes later a mouse came out, and ran back under it. I brought it to the staffs attention, they tried to look for it, but it was gone near an opening. I have no need to ever have my food near rodents. If this is in the main dining room, who knows what is in the kitchen. I hope the department of health sees this post.

I had the pumpkin pancakes for breakfast, and they were delicious. The space is homey but a little crowded. The restaurant filled up quickly and on weekends I'm sure it was packed. The food I saw others receive looked really good, too.

When you walk into the place you really do feel the "nature". There is baskets with fruit & vegetables, rustic tables etc. The service is polite, they help each other out. Some of the tables are really small, in corners, which is not very comfortable. We ordered granola, eggs with bacon and of course coffee. You get free homemade cornbread - fresh and nice. Everything was very tasty. The coffee is given to you in your own dish, which is very fancy. The one thing I didn't like the way the granola was given to me (it's a tall glass, the yogurt is on the bottom, and the granola and fruit is on the top, and it's just impossible to mix it and eat it together). Overall very nice, but too expensive.

Can get crowded but is well worth it. The farmers market omelet and french toast and eggs bennie are all amazing. They serve the freshest fruits, vegetables and juices. Really packs em in and for good reason. Visit every time in town. Also in a great Gramercy/Union Sq area.

My daughter and I ate breakfast here after reading the reviews. We really enjoyed it. We sat outside and the morning was lovely although I got a little hot in the sun. My daughter was in the shade and was very comfortable. We both got a special that included the pumpkin pancakes, eggs, bacon, & breakfast potatoes. Everything was delicious, although I thought the pumpkin pancakes were a bit dry. The french press coffee was wonderful. We paid $48 for our breakfast, so a bit pricey for breakfast. Still, it was very lovely. After we ate we walked over to the Flatiron Building. There was a park nearby; however, you had to have a key to get in.

Delicious food, worth the wait. We both had omelettes and they were super tasty and filling. Staff were friendly. Prices were good. Would highly recommend

Great food, warm service and a cozy atmosphere. The chicken pot pie was a favorite of our group. The chicken with apples was unique- sweet and savory. A good find in the neighborhood.

My husband, preschooler and I ate brunch here in March. We found the restaurant through a Google search and wanted to try the menu. We arrived mid morning on a Saturday and despite the snow storm, the place was packed with a wait. Luckily, we were seated promptly because we shared a table upstairs with another couple. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting; you forget you're even in the city next to the warm fireplace. The service was fast and attentive. The food was delicious, especially the bacon. The portions were big and the quality was great. The prices were exceptionally reasonable given the quality and size. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and will definitely done here again.

Went with a friend who I hadn't seen and was pleased to find I could hear him, the atmosphere allowed for chatting and connection. The summer ceviche (salmon and cilantro) was great, as was the rose sangria. A perfect summer evening in NYC

I visited this restaurant for breakfast. The entrance is quite unassuming but they have a nice upstairs space. I would recommend the Eggs Benedict which was delicious.

Like a few other reviewers already said: the food is extremely fresh and very good! The atmosphere is great and cozy, great for a date, really feels like you are dining at a Vermont farmhouse. We ordered the shrimp with Parmesan cheese, the braised beef short ribs with some other smaller plates, everything was delicious. Strongly recommend and will definitely come back

I very rarely come away from a place and say I have to go back, but this is one of them. Words can't explain the feeling this place evokes. Firstly it is a great historic part of New York, this area just oozes old money. The restaurant is amazing and full of character, the staff are overworked but so friendly and calm and then there is brunch. Talk about fresh and tasty. Well my pancakes were light, my granola and berries, well heavenly and my guest enjoyed every mouthful as well. The line was long but went quickly and so all in all it was one of the best brunch experiences I have ever had in New York, and I've had many.. I have one word for you "GO" ...

We've gone to this restaurant a few times while in NYC, but for breakfast only. The food is good but there's a lot of butter....Portion sizes were decent. For dinner though, while food is good, prices are expensive and portions are very small...

Great place for brunch. Had a group of seven and we were seated upstairs, which was perfect. Food was delicious…large portions. Staff were very friendly, especially Antonio!

We visited for breakfast and didn't want to leave. The staff was superb and the food was incredible. It's like visiting a farmhouse outside of the city. We couldn't stop raving about the food and wish we could have returned for dinner! Everything was just beyond what we expected. The apple pancakes were light and fluffy with large slices of apple. And the hash browns were scrumptious. It was a pleasant surprise to have fresh cornbread with apple compote served as a bonus. This is an enjoyable culinary delight!

We ate brunch at this restaurant while dropping our daughter off at college. We didn't know anything about the restaurant but the line out the door was a good indicator of how good everything was inside. The service was friendly and informative. The food was fabulous; we loved the breakfast breads and the blueberry pancakes. This place is on our list when we go back to celebrate our daughter's birthday - she's chosen it for her birthday dinner.

First stop after checking at at the W Union Square, great brunch food, nice warm atmosphere of a country cottage. Ate by the fireplace on the second floor. We ordered three different omelets and all were delicious. Great french press coffee too. Nice, attentive staff.

Variety and good quality. I had pouched eggs with crab and tomato juice (picture), really good. Especially enjoyable if you sit outside on a sunny day.

I don't want this place to become any more popular than it already is but it really is deserving of it's fan base! Friend of a Farmer is a must visit when I'm in NYC (every month or so). It is located in Gramercy Park where I usually stay and when I visit, I like to pretend I'm a local visiting my favourite breakfast spot. I have only been to Friend of a Farmer for breakfast and lunch but have tried almost every breakfast item on the menu. I can honestly recommend everything! Especially delicious are the pumpkin pancakes and the smoked salmon omelette...but maybe not together!

Very disappointing restaurant experience. The first 5 minutes we were there we had one waiter, our waiter didn’t return. The waiter we had was sort of the impatient type. The best thing about this visit was the first cocktail and then the bottle of wine we selected for dinner. I had to send back my Encrsted Cod as it was totally undercooked and nearly cold. The replacement was to have gone to another diner and after our nearly hour wait for our entree, I feel bad for the diner whose entree I was served although it really was NOT good. Dessert was an apple pie with not enough apples. A huge disappointment & waste of nearly $200...

Nice cool atmosphere in a leafy covered annex in front of the restaurant. Good quality food - we had brunch and the sausages and pancakes were first rate. Service was surly and offhand. This was the luck of the draw as other serving staff were pretty engaging. Would come again and hope we won the server lottery.

I'm always on the hunt for the perfect brunch spot. I found my new go to spot last weekend; Friend of a Farmer. The rustic decor sets an intimate, homey vibe, and the friendly staff were on top of it. I ordered The Working Farmer, a delectable egg dish jam packed with meats and cheeses. The portion size was huge, making it a great deal. Try to get there early, because a line quickly forms after 11.

The venue is just gorgeous - with two floors of beautifully decorated dining space. The waiter was super friendly and gave some great recommendations for drinks and food. Both were delicious - large portions as you'd expect in the US.

I LOVE Friend of a Farmer and will likely make a stop here every time I visit the city. I first discovered it 2 years ago from a local friend who took me there. This visit to the city I had some family with me, and I could not wait to introduce them to this charming favorite of mine. Both times I have dined here have been a delight. The service is friendly and attentive. I love the location and decor and over feel of the place. Get the Boomer special with the apple pancakes (SO GOOD) (you can't go wrong with the bacon, sausage, or ham. I've had it all! But the ham really is delicious). The French press coffee and fresh juices are also great additions. Highly recommend. It's a must visit spot.

A gentle waiter compensated the long wait. Interesting menu that combine genuine ingredients with inventive cuisine. I took a very yummy salmon with spinach and with warm cornbread.

I was taken there by a friend and I found the whole lunheon experience ghastly. It's kind of a fantasy selection of health foods. It is certainly overpriced. Do not come with an appetite or you'll leave hungry.

We used to go here all the time and as we were visiting NY were excited to go back. Decidedly average now. Coffee comes in a French Press and is ok but not great. Cups are small. Come on man. Good coffee sets the tone for breakfast. Then the corn bread came. One little square the size of a brownie for 4 people. Underwhelming although admittedly very good. We all got egg dishes Butvagsun underwhelming. All came with fried potatoes but they weren’t the kind you have to stop yourself from gobbling up. Again ok but just average . The service was good and the water pitcher was much appreciated. The best brunch places in the city don’t take reservations and there is a line out the door . This place has both features but it’s not worth the wait.

What a wonderful setting! Love the decor and really enjoyed the upstairs dining room. Staff was attentive and kind. Food was delicious, everything was fresh and my apple butter pancakes superb! I highly recommend this place for family, friends or business dinning! A waiter photo bombed my picture and I love it!

Always a fan! Breakfast or dinner, i’ve always enjoyed fantastic fresh food here, superb portion sizes too. Not too large and healthy options are available, a top notch place to start or end your day. Highly recommended!!

We went for breakfast at 8:30 on a Sunday morning. So nice that they open early! We had eggs florentine and salmon Benedict . Both were good -on homemade corn biscuit with decent hollandaise sauce. Service was quick and friendly. We loved the farmhouse decor.

We came here on a recommendation. There was quite a line waiting for tables at 12 on a Saturday. Service was a bit slow. Food was okay, nothing special. Not likely to rush to return.

Good food. Fair service. Midrange prices. Crowded and noisy. Crowd is too hip for my taste. Long wait and lines to cram yourself inside.

Very delicious breakfast in a great restaurant downtown Manhattan with very friendly service - we enjoyed every minute!

Our family of 4 diner two nights ago. I’ve only been to F of a F for brunch (in case you didn’t know, this is one of the top 5 brunch Meccas in Manhattan). We reserved for outdoor dining. The whole Gramercy Park area is quaint, unlike most neighborhoods in the city. This of course supplemented the wonderful vibe at the restaurant. The restaurant took a lot of effort and thought into implementing the outside dining area. They built a little cottage. Inside attached to the roof are various wicker baskets. And all around are charming lighting fixtures. Even the walls are wallpapered to match the cottagecore mood. Greenery rounds out the decor. And yes, it is well-ventilated, thank god. We ordered the cheese board, cauliflower appetizer, chicken pot pie, shrimp, burger... and dessert was the apple pie with the same crust as the pot pie. Oh everything was delicious!! Our server was a kind and jovial person... At one point I commented that I loved the baskets so much that I might just take one home. As we were chowing down our food, a nearby diner finished and as she walked past me, she smiled and said, “so which one of my baskets were you thinking of taking?” To our surprise it was the owner! She of course asked how our evening was, and I replied, in all honesty, that the food and service were simply delightful. The menu may not have many choices but as we sampled enough, I can say you can’t go wrong with anything. Do visit the Friend of a Farmer and taste for yourself!

The pancakes were to die for and we will visit again next time we are in NY!! The table service was great, very attentive and earned every cent of their tip. The food and drink were delicious.

Came here for a client lunch. Had wanted to try the restaurant for years. Made a reservation and we were seated upstairs. Even though it was tight seating, the food was excellent. We started off by ordering "hot" apple cider only it didn't come hot. There was a language barrier with the waiter, so not sure he understood, but they quickly removed the cold ciders and brought us hot ones. We split the avocado tartar appetizer, which was just OK. We were thinking it would be more avocado that what was served. We both ordered the salmon, which was outstanding! Cooked to perfection, moist and tasty, and served on a bed of barley rice. We lingered awhile to chat, and they didn't rush or bother us to pay quickly or leave. The restaurant was very quaint and decorated for the holidays. I will definitely return here.

Was very disappointed with friend of a farmer restaurant. Booked for thanks giving meal was charged $159.99 and felt meal was rushed didn’t have time to finish one course before another was brought to the table, food was also out before previous dishes had been cleaned away, food was tasty but no imagination with side dishes same as the soup. Would not recommend restaurant as seem over crowded and very little room

Quaint restaurant with option for outside seating. We ate upstairs, had the most fabulous waitress, great food, and great service all around. Good organic tea options, lots of omelets to choose from, and other typical breakfast foods.
Really poor
Terrible doughy muffin, which came with the Eggs Benedict. Came with no bacon despite it being on the menu. Most of the meal was cold Bitter coffee Inattentive service No WiFi Given the multiple issues with the meal I just had to post.
