Awesome view, terrific Sangria

By Allison M |

The best NYC experience to make you feel like a local. The white sangria is out of this world and the view on a clear day is gorgeous. Being right on the water and having drinks on a warm sunny day in NYC is fabulous. Good volume to hold a conversation and it is always busy, but usually there is a table available at least for two.

Great unique atmosphere.

This was on my list to dine at during my first visit to NYC, however never made it, so we tried really hard this time. I was a bit confused whether or not I had the right restaurant, as it's when walking up to it, its apparently called "Pier 63" with that name on a Frying Pan. I had to ask the lady at the front if it was the Frying Pan, and she said "yes, I really don't know why we don't have that name any wheres on this sign" I was expecting to see some form of Stir Fry on the menu with the name, but I didn't see anything, none the less, eating on a boat, on the Hudson river was a unique experience, and the staff was very friendly. It is very casual for sure, you place your order in one spot, they give you a buzzer, and when your meal is ready you go to the kitchen to pick it up.

Atmosphere, beers and good food.

By talibragg |

I am really grateful to a friend in NY for suggesting some drinks and a light 'supper' here. It's bigger than you may expect, the staff are friendly and outgoing and there's a good selection of beers!

Don't go if you are hungry

By EKKC89 |

I was there on a nice Sunday afternoon. Sitting over the water, enjoying a beer, caressed by a cool ocean breeze, waiting for my friends to appear. I felt so relaxed, in fact; never so relaxed the last 50 times I visited the Big Apple. They came, we ordered, the food came; it all went down hill from there. Pew! I don't know how they can justify serving such bad food, charging that kind of price, expect you to pick up your own food, give them a 15% tip, and GET AWAY WITH IT? You should go, just don't EAT! The beer is fine.

Nice Locale - Mediocre Food

By 1Rob1 |

You wouldn't go here for the food but sitting out on the Hudson River in the fresh air amidst boisterous diners/drinkers was exactly what we needed

Amazing views

By twilliams15 |

Nice spot on the water with the view of New Jersey skylines & New York. As you enter the frying plan it looks like an abandoned vintage rail road and ship. You order your own drinks/ food and find a seat. The boat does sway due to the currents. Nice place for a happy hour, date or summer outing. The food was good too and prices reasonable. Pitcher of sangria $40, pitcher of beer $28. I had the fish taco and hummus. Both selections were great and I highly recommend.

nice atmosphere

By karenpStLouis |

It was nice to sit out and just have a couple drinks and people watch. I also had a burger, which was very good. My friend has bar b q chicken, which she said was delicious.

Nice place for a drink but bad food

By Katherine L |

Hello, came here at the weekend. It's a great place to drink with lovely views but the food was very disappointing. We viewed the menu beforehand and it looked nice, but in reality it was poor. The wings were bland and uncooked. The crudités where very old and stale. The lobster roll was poor and the clams and chorizo where also poor. Perhaps we just got an off night. The service reflected the food.

Nice afternoon time out in the city.

By fazoolynj |

Great location and great views from the Chelsea Piers in the city. My daughter and I grabbed a table in the sun and ordered a pitcher of white sangria. It was very refreshing and was full of blueberries, canatloupe and honey dew melon.

Great location and atmosphere

By DizFanatic |

This is a unique bar situated on a barge and boat on the west side of Manhattan, across from the historic Starrett Lehigh railroad building. This place offers great views of the developing West Side Yards skyscrapers, lower manhattan and New Jersey. A restored Lackawanna caboose Greets you as you board the barge and enter the hybrid nautical/railroad atmosphere. Drinks are good, staff is attentive and courteous, and the snacks are fun and tasty. We enjoyed the chicken shish-kabobs, quesadillas, pulled pork sliders and mini crab cakes. This is a great place for friends, “work family”, or a date. It’s all about the awesome atmosphere of the partially covered outdoor bar. (And the restrooms are well themed as well!!)

Ambience and atmosphere...

By Lone K |

Great summertime haunt. Set on a barge with a historic fireboat moored alongside. Offering great views of the Hudson whilst chilling with a cool long drink or a beer. Didn´t eat there but enjoyed a few sundowners. Young rowdy crowd on a friday afternoon

Cool stop for a drink

By Joski69 |

Came across the Frying Pan in route the the Intrepid Museum. They had just opened and menu was somewhat limited. We opted to have a cocktail and explore the boat a little while enjoying the views and breeze provided by the on the water location. Certainly a different concept and one that is unique to NYC. Not sure it is worth going out of your way but stopping in for the views and some photos if you are in the area would be suggested.

Very cool place

By Christopher D |

This old ship was very cool. The food was very good we liked the atmosphere I definitely recommend this place when your in the city and wanted to do something different.

Sunsets, Coronas and delicious food

By Fran K |

If we had found this place initially on our trip, we would have probably spent every night here. Make sure you head here on a warm spring/summer evening and catch the sunset. The food is a mix of tasty seafood and classic American cuisine - mussels, steak, corn on the cob. There are buckets of Coronas and other drinks, and there is a buzzing atmosphere. The multi-tiered seating on the boat just adds to the delight. I hope to come here again soon.

Great atmosphere

By Ahmed E |

Great atmosphere. Go with a group of friends. Upper deck level is a plus. Via plus breeze. Food wasn't good. Fried were cold and calamari was over seasoned. Burger was ok nothing special. Slightly overpriced.

Great place for a summer evening

By sjgartner |

Just what we were looking for on a comfortable summer evening. We were here for sunset over the Hudson and it was spectacular. We split the chicken wings which were very tasty. I had the steamers and chorizio which was very well done. My wife had the lobster roll and loved it. The seasoned fries were also great. Plus we had a great waitress, Amanda, who made the evening fun. Well done.

Amazing Place: Food is "Good" but Its the View and Location

By Huisking |

We took a bike tour down the west side and stopped at the Frying Pan for lunch. A very unique place. Strongly recommend it. If you like the show BlackList - they filmed some there. You can recognize the location. Like I said Food ok... its the location that sells it.

Relaxing, delicious knoshing after the boat trip

By MGrimaldi |

After our AIA boat trip at Chelsea Pier 62, we walked to the Frying Pan with our 10 business associates. This was a fun, open air restaurant, serving casual fair. The food, the chicken blt, hamburger, french fries, quinoa salad, calamari, we tasted was perfect for sharing. You order from the bar and receive a buzzer to pick up your food. We enjoyed the service, the food and the ambiance of being outside on a historic railroad pier!

Great place to chill out after work

By Maria d |

I came here with some colleagues from work and had a great time! Don't expect a huge wine list or food menu. The offer is very simple, but what's really worth is the location and the fact that this is a place where New Yorkers hangout after work. Prices are also reasonable and service is friendly.

Very Good, great view!!!

By Anita P |

My family of 6 ate here recently. We arrived on a Sunday for lunch and were seated promptly. We were seated right on the water, so the view was amazing. I personally think this restaurant went above and beyond safety precautions considering the pandemic. We scanned the menu onto our phones and placed our order the same way. Our food was brought out in paper bags and plastic containers. We are all adventurous eaters, so we tried different foods. We were all pleased with our meals. The crab cakes are divine and I cannot remember the name of the salad with kale and watermelon on it, but it was fabulous. All in all, I'm glad we tried this restaurant and definitely we would come back.

Cool spot

By Sarah O |

The frying pan offers good food and drinks, however is often swarming with interns. They also are very particular about their seating - they sat my group on the upper deck and their staff was super weird about leaving enough room to walk in the aisle (even though their was plenty of space). This order comes from the upper management which is very annoying. All that being said, the Frying Pan has cool vibes and it's awesome to be on a boat!

Service needs improvement but location & food fabulous

By SRS0309 |

This place has the potential to be fabulous… and indeed the location, the view, the atmosphere and the food were great. However as lovely as the waiting staff were the service was pretty awful… which is sad as I lost count how many times they apologised for making us wait 30mins to receive our ordered and paid for drinks.

Horrible Experience

By Brionna S |

Had a horrible experience with the people running this establishment. Will be my first and last time.

Great view, not so great food

By viviana cl |

We chose the place due to the fact that it sits by the water. We ordered fish and chips. It was served the typical American way, in a little box and just with a fork. The fish was pretty much ok but the chips were so salty that we could not eat them. I asked if there was WIFI, as many tourists visit that place and I expected it to have, but the waitress said she would find out and never returned with an answer. I then asked another waiter and he said no. I was not impressed by the customer service nor the food

October on the water

By Vicky M |

Dining on the pier, interesting location, near an old ship (or on a ship??). Sunset views if city. All self-serve order and pick up. Use of plastic glasses and paper ware is less appealing. Fish and chips, just so-so, brat good. Decent alcohol selection.

A Nice Way to Have a Fun Lunch

By bluestourist |

We found this place at the spur of the moment for lunch last Saturday at about 11:30. We sat ourselves at a waterside table on a sunny 70 degree day. The beer and our food was good, although the breeze tended to cool the food of in a hurry. About 1:00 it became very busy. The atmosphere was very festive and fun, and it didn’t feel like you were in the city even though you could see the city buildings. We left about 1:30 and noticed that there was a line of about 30 people waiting to be let in as people left. I’m glad we got there early.

Great location, bit overpriced

By mirikubi |

We stopped by for a beer and were really happy with the view and the style in general. However, it was little overpriced (and the beer was not draught).

Sumset Dinner on the Hudson

By Jim S |

Perhaps Im a bit prejudiced in this review because being in NYC alone with my wife automatically makes it very romantic but a sunset dinner here makes your trip to the Big Apple great because the food is also Ask for Rachel and ask to sit on the boat bring your camera we also suggest to walk off dinner with a romantic stroll on the Highline only a few blocks east oh and definitely go see Amazing Grace on Broadway before or after dinner

Overpriced and underwhelming.

By Amy L |

Over priced and underwhelming. Ordered the chicken ‘under a brick’ which comes with sprouts, the ‘brick’ is to represent the fact that the chicken is flattened, but you’d be forgiven for mistaking the sprouts for bricks as they were so underdone they were inedible. Sangria pitcher was passable but at $70ex tax and tip it was again, overpriced and underwhelming. Paid a lot to leave half of an already small meal, be rocked on the barge and serenaded by the incessant helicopters coming and going next door.

Go on a Monday or Tuesday to avoid the crowds

By James W |

The food here is alright—standard burgers, chicken, and beer—but who really cares when you're on a boat with the beautiful panoramic views. You pick up your food from a counter, which actually ends being a good thing, since there aren't any waitstaff to rush you out. However, this means that turnover is low on an already limited-capacity boat. It's best to come as early in the afternoon as possible on a Monday or Tuesday to avoid the after-five crowd. Try to get a seat on the upper deck, which has better views and is away from the DJ. And don't get upset if you're not facing the water, as the city views are stunning, especially as the sun sets and the buildings start to light up!

One of my favorite places in NYC!

By jpsteier |

If you haven't been to the Frying Pan in NYC you need to make a stop there the next time you are in town. We just go for drinks and appetizers, but I've never had dinner there. The thing that can't be beat is the atmosphere. It is a great place to go with friends for drinks and an amazing view. The Frying Pan is a must visit location in the city!

Unbeatable views

By CTKarenB |

What nice atmosphere! Sitting outside on a boat on a nice summer day. This is a self service type place. The food was average to good. When we ordered our food at the counter the person taking our order was fine. We found ourselves on the older age range (50's). Mostly a lot of college age people. Must be great night spot for them.

Good Food and beautiful scenery!

By LoRy |

The restaurant is on a floating boat and doc along the Hudson River. On a nice day, its a relaxing place to have a drink, lunch, dinner or snack. The food is typical bar food, but was very good. We had 3 adults and ordered the BBQ Chicken basket, calamari, the Clambake and Hummus with veggies and flatbread. It was a little too much food, but we enjoyed it! Beautiful area to stroll before and after eating.

Great day drinking spot!

By Josh and Vivian B |

Grab a bucket of beers and grab a seat on an old fire ship. Really cool spot to sit in the sun and have a beer. The food is great as well when the full menu is available (peak summer.) The view is great, and sunset is the best time of day to go.

Chilling in NY

By John D |

This is one of my favourite places in NYC. Great food and drink at a reasonable price. Great place to chill out.

Cool place to stop for lunch

By niknikOxon |

We came across this ship as we were walking along the river. What a cool place on the river with great views. Food was great and its a great quirky venue. You place you order at the bar (you are given a buzzer) and collect food when ready from the kitchen area which is open for you to see. A place you must visit, if only for a drink

Pretty views and tasty food

By Diana G |

I went here to meet my friend in one of my first trips to New York. She had been her prior for drinks, but had never had the food. It was remarkably good! My quinoa salad was spectacular. With added chicken that was cooked perfectly, everything was a great compliment to my salad. Additionally, despite the potentially bad weather, the views were gorgeous! There's a section in the back that is covered, so don't let any potential rain put you off. Minor drawbacks are that if the water is a little choppy, you'll definitely feel it, so don't go if you're easily sea sick. I very much enjoyed my experience here!!

Sunday Lunch

By Mike43DBear |

Visiting our daughter in the city this past Sunday. What a gorgeous day! Our daughter took us the Frying Pan. This was an excellent choice. We started by getting a picture of Bloody Marys and split the peel and eat shrimp which was cooked perfectly with just the right amount of Old Bay. We each had a different main dish (fish tacos, pork tacos and a veggie burger). We shared a plate of Old Bay fries too! We were all happy! The views from the boat were great and the slight breeze made for a perfect day. We'll be back

Grateful for different and satisfying

By Souljagirltee |

So, was looking for a place to experience. This was it. The place was packed with folks enjoying great food and drinks. However, we were there to eat. We were told about dining on the actual boat vs the barge. We jumped on it and was seated immediately. (Should have asked sooner) Great view of the city. Service was attentive and fast. Ordered fish and chips. Food was awesome. I will be back and highly recommend this restaurant, place, barge, etc. So many offerings!

Great place for sunny days !

By Jacques-E B |

This is a great place to chill with your friends on sunny days ! It gets a bit chilly in the evening, but honestly, who cares when you can have an iced bucket of Coronas and your friends to share it ;) Great scene for live performances by the way.

Great views

By MMKielar |

Typical bar food (really large servings) and a full bar. Have a drink (bottled beer or something on tap) and sit and watch the boats on the river. Very pretty.

Drink in the sun

By JustinA-S1979 |

We came down here after being on the high line. Great spot in the sun to have a couple of drinks. Lovely views. We watched boats and wildlife and whilst the drinks weren't the best the location made up for it.

Great atmosphere

By petittaam |

This was a really cool bar, which was actually a boat. The atmosphere was great, the lighting was beautiful, and the top deck offered amazing views of Brooklyn. The staff was very friendly, too. The drinks were a little overpriced, which is pretty standard for NYC. I will definitely come back next time I’m in New York.

Beer on the River

By RaquelitaNYC |

This is a amazing place to go with friends or for couples: a beer on a floating boat, enjoying the New York skyline. Food is "bar food." The best thing is stay there.

Great view of New York

By Saoirse M |

What a hidden spot in New York. Based on a boat off the pier near the highline, this is a great place to have a drink and admire the Hudson and helicopters landing nearby. Losing a star because my gin and tonic was a bit flat. Didn’t try the food. Definitely go for the views though!

Come here for happy hour or after dinner drinks

By wkcalip |

Fun, fun, fun with friends or just meeting new people. Been wanting to come here and I only live several blocks away. It's always packed and their food is good. Seating is first come first serve, so save your seat before getting drinks and food!

Fabulous location

By lisdilure |

Great vibe, friendly service, location is really beautiful -especially on a sweltering evening. It suited our little group perfectly./ But it is not really about the food, which is very expensive for what it is.

Great place to enjoy a drink

By globalgal90 |

Not a place for those who don't like boats. Great place to enjoy a sunset drink on the Hudson river. Did not try the food, but looks decent.

A great drink spot when visiting in the summer!

By CB2120 |

I love the frying pan. It is always a stop on my sisters, and my list when visiting NYC. It is a great spot to have drinks and enjoy the water view in the summer! We are always happy with the food and drinks. You most likely will need a taxi to get there and be warned it is very busy for "happy hour" so there is usually a long line, or you need to be on the watch for a table but still worth going!

Our very favourite place during our visit to New York 3/7/19 - 7/7/19

By Linda D |

We were visiting from the UK and quite literally 'stumbled' upon this wonderful boat/bar/restaurant whilst on a walk down the Hudson trying to escape the 'madness' of Downtown New York and looking for some peace and quiet. What a wonderful find it was, we had a lovely meal, really fresh, hot and tasteful. My Daughter had the burger, husband the shrimps and I had the humus platter of celery, carrot, pitta bread, olives and humus on our first visit and it was delicious. We sat at the front of the boat overlooking the Hudson where we could watch the helicopters, boats and small planes, with New Jersey as the back drop and the Statue of Liberty in the distance. Compared to eating in Downtown or Uptown New York we found it to be a little cheaper and quality wise much better. There are many different beers to choose from (I would recommend buying a pitcher than by the glass} as well as a great selection of spirits and wines. Please look out for IAN, one of the bartenders, what a credit to the Restaurant he is, it is because of his friendly and informative manner that we made several visits during our stay and enjoyed each one as much as the other. I really would HIGHLY recommend giving this a try.

Great place for beer and views

By Mark T |

We went here with friends from work on a business trip to NYC. We got a table on the top deck and a couple of buckets of beer and watched the comings and goings across the Hudson. So many helicopters! Like everywhere in New York, it was a bit pricey but was a great location for chewing the fat and relaxing after a days work.

Fun During A Thunderstorm!

By ShadOcat |

Everything about this experience was splendid. The choice of ales was great. I highly recommend the Alphabet City Blonde. I also appreciated that they have a not-so-predictable wine selection, and offered a great Shiraz. Even their food was surprisingly good! The hummus was delicious! I'm pretty sure they put ginger in it, which is quite appropriate for any sea-sickness-prone people aboard. They even serve up great french fries. We came as the sun was setting, then faced thunderstorms for about an hour. It was exciting! Never before have I been on a boat eating finger foods during a thunderstorm! The view is great, the history of the boat in quite interesting, read about it on their site....! Only issue we had was one very agitated bar girl who huffed and puffed when we'd order more drinks, (which we thought was odd, as it was her job!) But oh, well.. fun nonetheless. No reservations accepted, so just try and get there as early as you can! And even though it would be best to go during nicer weather, there are parts on board that are covered. Bathrooms are nice, but are difficult navigating to when it's crowded,.. and it's always crowded. Something to consider if you're traveling with handicapped.

RACIST ESTABLISHMENT

By Lexi |

After being seated and ordering drinks I was accused of being “too intoxicated to serve” (which was untrue) I was told that myself and no one at my table would be served because I was too drunk. I was so upset with how rude they were being, we of course immediately left. I’ve never left a restaurant in tears before. After reading other reviews it seems this is not uncommon for them to do to parties including people of color. I am so taken back by their racist actions.

Such A Fun Spot

By Nancy D |

I had never been in this area before and the atmosphere on this old docked ship was so fun. Great views of the ocean. Mixed cocktails around $13 or $14. You can get tasty snacks and watch hang with friends. Definitely a place to check out.

Great Place for a Drink

By Frank P |

Located on the water. It is a great place to party on the water and watch people. It is a bit of a tourist trap price wise but very unique place being on a boat.

Nice location on the water

By Ramadama |

This restaurant is very casual where you order your own food and drinks at central area, pick up your food at another bar area and have to search for a table and chairs. We ordered mussels, calamari and fries. Even though we picked the food up right away it was cold and tasted like it was cooked fifteen minutes ago. I feel like its best to have drinks here and enjoy the views. We went Saturday at 6 PM and it was very crowded and very loud in the restaurant.

Cool, unique place

By theFussyFoodie |

You know, this place is really pretty cool. Very unique atmosphere and in the summer time, it's a must do. Many people grab pitchers of drinks and sit for hours in the afternoon or evening, but we actually went for lunch. I was skeptical because I thought the food would be pretty terrible given that it doesn't need to be good since people really just go for the ambiance. But everyone was really happy and we had a great time. Restrooms are also very clean and eco-friendly with the automatic lights. I was impressed with the place overall, but I will say they staff is not the best or friendliest. On a Saturday afternoon around 1, there were a bunch of empty tables left. I was afraid we'd have to wait for a long time, but it was perfect. By the time we left, though, it had filled up significantly. I guess weekends mid-afternoon is when it starts to get really crowded. Sirloin Burger - really good and the meat was great quality. Doesn't come with anything on the side. Hummus Wrap - tastes really good, but it's literally just hummus spread, tomatoes, and mixed greens in a sun-dried tomato wrap. Served with more mixed greens on the side. Chicken Wrap - this actually comes in a pita with a lemon tzatziki sauce. I love tzatziki, but this wasn't good. And I wasn't a big fan of the lemon flavor. The pita was delicious though. I wish you could get the hummus wrap in the pita. I'd pass on the chicken wrap and get the sirloin burger for a meat eater and the hummus wrap for a vegetarian. The place is definitely overpriced because of its location and also they are very strict about not allowing substitutions - of any kind, even if it would make it cheaper. But when they messed up my order initially, they did fix it right away. Also, they require I.D.

AWESOME PLACE, ON THE HUDSON RIVER

By The-Giftbloomingdale |

Great place for a drink and a snack. You're on a railroad barge with and old train, a water boat that you can climb up on and sit at the top with a cocktail and just chill out. Loved it, great find. Lot's of places to sit, large bar, good sea-food, places is wild. Fun time was had by all, go see for yourself. You will be very happy you did.

So much fun on a sunny summertime Sunday

By UpInTheAirPotomac_MD |

Was in NYC and my kids friends late 20's and early 30's like to hang here on a Sunday afternoon. We were in town and they invited us. So nice to sit out on the Hudson and have a few drinks on a lazy afternoon. Pitchers of beer and mango sangria's were a big hit

Great fun and uber cool, slightly expensive

By CyuutBen |

Very cool set up on a floating pontoon complete with boats. Prices are average/average high. Food is pretty good though way too salty. Great place for drinks through. Go right up to the top of the structure.

Beyond Unsatisfied

By kierstenremster |

I am astonished by how disgusting of a quality for the price you pay to be at an establishment such as this. First off, the cocktails come out in plastic cups as if you are at a college frat party. They were so watered down, you couldn't even differentiate any taste or taste alcohol. Second, their roasted garlic hummus platter got my partner and me sick. The carrots were so dry and shriveled, it was blatantly clear they were not fresh. The celery also was not even edible for how bad it had gotten. The hummus was literally served in a PLASTIC CUP....the same CUP I was sipping a "cocktail" out of. Unbelievable. Will never come back, as a New Yorker, and would never recommend any person to go either. Do not go.

Great food and great view!

By Jack |

The frying pan is great! It’s right in Chelsea along the water on Pier 66. The atmosphere is spectacular. You walk on the pier and instantly you can hear water crashing alongside the dock. There is a boat attached to the pier where you can eat on, as well as many tables and two bars on the dock. There is a railing along the whole dock for safety. There is great views of Hudson Yards, New Jersey, and the Freedom Tower from the pier. There is also a retired fire boat which you can get on from the restaurant, leading you along the Hudson River. The food was great. I had a burger with fries which were delicious! Overall, I highly recommend eating here for great food and great views!

So fun. River breeze. Nice atmosphere.

By vermonter57282 |

Drinks were good. Boat rocks and breeze comes off the ocean. Noisy and busy. Fun place to stop in for one drink.

GREAT PLACE TO HANG ON A BEAUTIFUL DAY-VG BEERS & DRINKS-G FOOD

By NUTN2000 |

Came on a beautiful afternoon in June. There was a long line to get on the pier but it was handled well and we waited about 20 minutes. Once on the pier I had a beer in hand in 10 minutes and was sitting on the bow of the Frying Pan in 15 minutes. The host, hostess and waitress were vg and attentive. We were a party of 6 and were given an option of shady seating on the bow or sunny seating with a better view. Its that time of personal attention that makes me revisit. Food was much better than I expected! We tried quite a bit of options. The mussels were huge and very clean. Not going to be the best you ever had but for a party type atmosphere( lots of college kids) it was vg. VG line of beer taps, vg drinks and reasonably priced considering where you are at. Definetley recommend this. Under 21 will probably not get on the pier.

Gem of New York City

By Cory B |

The Frying Pan has amazing drinks and an amazing ambiance. It is beautiful in the summer time to be on the boat with friends after work. It is a hip, young crowd.

Location, location, location

By staylonger |

We happened upon this restaurant by accident, or rather a very loving God led us here. After walking the High Line we took a set of steps down and walked to the Hudson right up to this docked railroad barge. It was a weekday in May so we didn't have much company but what people were there were unusually friendly, probably due to the extraordinary setting. We are vegetarian non drinkers, so if we enjoy the food, you definitely will. The views are awesome, the historical ambiance an enormous treat and the food is appropriately good for the setting. Of course this was aided by my great great grandfather having run the railroad that owned the barge.

Fun and Unique Summertime Restaurant

By Ryan P |

I enjoyed this location with a group of friends during the peak of summertime one Saturday afternoon. This restaurant is actually on a two-story boat which is docked to a pier. The atmosphere is so fun, with a generally younger crowd eating burgers and drinking buckets of Corona. Highly recommend for the views of the Hudson and the party atmosphere.

Frying Pan

By philfamdxb |

Great place to sit and have a bucket o' Corona (or something else if you prefer). Grab a table in the sun, a bucket and something to eat and watch the sunset over the Hudson. Cool place to chill and watch the world go by. -Pier 66a -

Cool option for the Summer, but going downhill

By Jutrip |

I used to love this place because: - It's great for the Summer - drinks were reasonably priced - people were not showing off - you could smoke - there was a cool boat that you could tour on your own - old and kind of scary, quite cool! Now I find that people are getting a little snobier, drinks are a little more expensive, smoke are has been reduced to a tiny space near the entrance and they have closed the creepy boat! I still go, I enjoy their white sangría and the river breeze, but I liked it better a few years back.

Floating Hudson River Oasis, Tranquility In The Heart of The City

By hicksonnator |

We were looking for fun place to have a view drinks. When its summer in New York you absolutely have to be outside. The Frying Pan is moored at Pier 66 which is three blocks north of Chesea Piers, on Pier 66 at West 26th Street (right on the Hudson River). By taxi, drop off at 26th between 11th and 12th. This place is best for drinks, a bucket of beers is pretty reasonable. Food is basic bar food, not very appetizing but after a few drinks in the sun more than adequate. If you have having an event here you can get catering which actually offers better food options. Things to watch for: Besides a meze plate (four pieces of bread and dips) there are no sharable food options. This is really strange; it would be great to get some wings to share when you are out with the boys. Getting home after 10 by Taxi is hard. Uber or Hailo, but you’ll be behind a queue of people looking for that one taxi. The boat is lovely to sit on, especially with south views. The dock is also cool, expect to see a few helicopters landing on the Hudson helipad. Great for kids.

Amazing location!

By Ann G |

This floating (really!) restaurant has quite a variety of food: from "calamari fritti" and a tasty Barge Burger through grilled salmon and mussels Provençale. Drinks from Corona through Pinot noir through Cucumber Cooler through Veuve Cliquot! Plus (if you're there for dinner) a free sunset thrown in. I love it, but if you have a tendency to seasickness, this place may not be fore you. If so, you're really missing out!

EOM celebration

By Maria Irene P |

What can you say? It’s outdoors! Great music! Plenty of food and libations around. It’s a great place to have a gathering and to just hang out!

great place for a quick lunch

By bren m |

We went for lunch and found the Frying Pan very interesting. It's a barge next to a fire boat. It might be very different at night. The row boat on board was called the Skillet. We had hamburgers and were happy with those and the fries. There is a bar on board. It was a great place to visit and take a break from the High Line walkway. There is no table service, so you need to order at the kitchen.

Good ambience, mediocre food

By Farooq Shahzad |

This is a restaurant and bar on a ship in pier 66 on Hudson River. Very nice atmosphere. Food is mediocre. I would cone here for drinks but have food somewhere else as there are many better options nearby.

Great food in a fun atmosphere

By Gail G |

Eating on the pier or on one of the boat decks provides a lovely and entertaining atmosphere for fresh seafood, tasty ribs or hearty sandwiches. There is something for every taste and always something interesting to watch, especially the sunset on the water.

Great views, relaxing, and fun!!

By Carolyn M |

Really nice place to bring friends for a few drinks after work or after a day of sightseeing in NYC. good food and drink specials but NYC prices of course. The atmosphere is really a NY scene with a bunch of cool NY people.

Nice surroundings

By GLWayne |

I came here to visit the boat. Unfortunately it had closed for the year and I was left very disappointed. We stayed for a drink and to be fair, the service was fine, the view and surroundings were great.

A mini getaway from the city

By Rachel C |

I had been dying to check this place out. I agree with the other reviewers that this is an awesome place to hang out and you really feel like you are out of the city. It's a self serve place - grab your own drinks and food. We got a bucket of Corona's and tried the mussels. One serving is enough for two people to share. I would suggest heading over to the Highline afterward- super close by.

New Yorks best place?!

By Dollyfreak |

A visit is a must on a sunny day. The view is wonderfull, the music is good and the lobster sandwish is the best ever!

Great for beers and drinks

By Randy S |

Great place for beers and cocktails if you can find seating as this venue gets a little crowded. The views are splendid. I wouldn't order any food from the bar as the service would be lackluster. 5 Stars for the beer and views. Much better than even some of the fancier rooftops.

Fun Laid Back

By VacationMod |

This is the place to be on a nice day. Very laid back - you order drinks and food at the bar area. You can sit anywhere which is great! Burger is amazing. Bathrooms are clean. The kitchen staff is well organized and it is a well run machine.

Really cool, chilled bar

By CamillyVanilly |

Loved this place! We went on a bit of a chilly day, but I can imagine it would be even better in summer. Really nice to be out on the water, great views of the Hudson River and the sailboats going out, plus a nice hint of the sunset to come. Their own house beer was really nice and light, and they also have a great selection of various other lagers and IPAs, many of which were local. We just had the calamari but it was seriously delicious! Fried with some peppers and a few pickled veg - so good. Really nice place to unwind with a beer.

Lunch on the water

By Katie L |

We had lunch on the barge as soon as we arrived in NYC. We took a nice stroll down manhattan pier from our hotel in Hell's Kitchen and found Frying Pan on the barge boat at pier 63. Really great place! So relaxing, a good atmosphere with a good amount of people enjoying a drink and food in the sun. We both had he chicken wrap and garlic fries along with they frying pan beer. It was delicious! It isn't table service but the staff were great and the place was very well looked after.

Feel like it is always party!

By Cesar R |

The place is full of energy! The view, especially the sunset, is one of those special ones to remember NY.The food could be better, but it is not bad.

Great Location on the Hudson River at Pier 66 for Drinks

By TravelingSoccerLoon |

Great location on a former floating railroad barge at Pier 66 near Chelsea with the historic Lightship Frying Pan docked alongside. Terrific views of the Hudson River and a great place to grab a drink in the afternoon or evening. Service and food in pretty average but still a great place to check out because of the location. Relaxed atmosphere in the afternoon that becomes more boisterous at night.

Go for the Experience not the Food

By mehinojosa |

The food was bad. I order the burger and it was pretty much still a frozen patty. My husband ordered the ribs and well they were horrible. I didn't know ribs could be that bad. The fries were good and the view is nice but stay away from the burger and ribs.

Good food great views

By Younus K |

You ll love this place as you get one of the best views of NY skyline and off course they have good sea food and drinks.

Too crowded

By Vblakey |

Depending on what you want, this may not be the stop for you. The bar/floating peer is crowded with not a lot of shade on a sunny day. It's also very loud. The drinks are very pricy and the sangria is awful. It looks and tastes like yellow water with floating corn and olives. So unappetizing and disappointing.

Great location

By Mary Fran |

We love this place, great bar food, nothing too fancy, great selection of drinks, and atmosphere, could have a band playing more often and advertise it, such a great space!

RELAX AND ENJOY

By msannnyc |

The atmosphere here is priceless. The overall mood is upbeat. Customers, Staff everyone. Beautiful views. Lively. It fits well for all ages. The food is tasty and does not rip a hole in your pocket ! No one is in a rush. Wish I lived closer so I could come more often....

Low quality food

By Hugo S |

I ordered a "Mezze and pita" which not only looked nothing like what this dish should be but it was also inedible, I left everything. You can just have a drink because the place is not unpleasant and there is less risk of unpleasant surprises.

Cool place to visit

By HelpfulTravler |

Great place to visit when NYC! Good cocktails on the river with a great view. V casual but a nice place to hangout. As for food I'm not sure but for drinks it's a good one.

Young Trendy Flip Flop Spot

By TigerOak |

Perfect for a Happy Hour after work or a chilled laid back day where you haven't much to do. The food is snack bar food and sangria is watered down, but the vibe is cool. No need to dress up here - comfy and casual. After all you are on a boat. Find a seat and grab it b/c its 1st come 1st serve.

Fantastic location

By Harald H |

Frying Pan is a fantastic location on Pier 66 (26th St) Hudson side. It is super crowded on evenings, especially weekend time. It’s fun, you sit, eat/drink and relax and you can enjoy views on Manhattan and on Hudson River.

If you can find an empty seat...

By SahmaliB |

you can enjoy casual dining with an amazing athmosphere/view. Clean bathrooms. If you go inside the boat, there is a dance floor with a dj cabin. It could be the best place to throw a private party. Good beers and hipsters. Fast and friendly service. Make sure to grab your friends when going there since you will not understand how fast time passes and you will be drunk by then. I will continue going there everytime I visit NYC.

Great Seafood and Views

By Farm Grammitt |

Walked over one to Pier 66 12th@26th access of the Hudson Greenway. Frying Pan is an old barge serving food and beer. Fish and chips was excellent. The multi decked large seating area there is room for everyone. Best time to go is after dark as the views are incredible.

COOL LOCATION. SH*T EVERYTHING ELSE.

By drew york |

To be as fair as possible, the location itself if very cool. My inner child was excited to have a meal on a ship, but sadly everything from the food to the service was incredibly disappointing. The server is pretty much just that- someone that serves you the food you order (you place your orders online through the QR code and pay through this feature as well) and sadly they could not even do that well. I tried to voice concerns to management and they were incredibly disrespectful and completely useless, and I am pretty sure they were a few drinks in.

Fun and great views

By SKW |

This place is so fun and you get really great views of the city. Go at sunset and you can see Manhattan and Jersey in the light and at night. It does get super crowded though. It was one of my favorite summer activities.

Staff not understandable

By SimenTorb |

Got her for some lunch at 2 pm. Only because one of us didn't bring ID, we were not allowed into the restaurant (both of us is 25). We only came here for food and were very dissapointed over their lack of understanding.

Superb location and super fun!

By PenEllis |

The Frying Pan is a must do for those wanting to experience all NYC has to offer. Fab views and electric atmosphere. As with most places in NY the Frying Pan gets really busy so arrive early to get table, especially on sunny days!! Food is simple, tasty burgers etc but don't be expecting gourmet! That said burgers and a bucket of Coronas is a perfect end to busy day of sight seeing. Good prices. Don't forget your ID, your not getting aboard without it!!

Average

By Neverstoptravel |

All I got was a burger and fries they were good but it took so long to serve us the food that it sort of ruined my opinion of the place.

Awesome on a warm night

By Carol O |

Came here one night after work with some friends. Really enjoyed the view of lower Manhattan from our seats. It was a pleasant evening. Be sure to have your ID ready before you enter-21 and over. Once you walk in, go straight to the bar where you will order both food and drinks. Not like a traditional restaurant where you're seated and order from the menu. If you're with a group, they may want to find seating and have someone pick up the food at the kitchen, right next to the bar. The food was average, nothing spectacular but filling. I had the watermelon salad & old bay fries. The salad could've used a little more dressing. (Or at least be served on the side). I would definitely recommend this place for great location, Manhattan views, and a great time.

COULD HAVE BEEN A SET FOR MAD MAX

By Kerry B |

Do not be mislead by the map here which at the time of this review was very wrong. The Frying Pan is an Historic Lightship which with other older vessels are moored on a short pier on The Hudson at the end of West 24th Street, a little north of Chelsea Piers. If not already used for, this pier would make an absolutely authentic setting for a Mad Max or Water World sequel as it a somewhat surreal eclectic mish-mash of all things rusting, nautical and uber improvised. Miscellaneous artefacts are strewn across the decking which adds to the general ambiance of the aftermath of a pirate marauding. It is all fascinating and quite unlike anything we have come across in NYC or anywhere else, come to that, and its situation affords great views of river and it's traffic and, of course, in the sultry summer a refreshing breeze. You would not travel miles here for a gourmet experience as it is very basic but tasty grub that you order at the bar, wait for you number to appear on an electronic display and go and collect it from the 'galley' and choose your table from the many available. It does not open during certain winter months so before making a special journey to experience this 'out of the usual' attraction it would be worth checking.

Beautiful place

By claude508 |

Superb establishment along the hudson river. Old boat furnished and decorated , very flowery and very clean. Traditional American food without more.

Good Atmosphere

By Doggus |

We stumbled on to the Frying pan by accident on a lovely sunny day in May and we loved it, we didnt have the food but enjoyed the atmosphere and the drinks, it was a lovely way to spend a few hours sat on the Hudson and a trip down to the loos is an experience!!!

Great place!

By sharonphill |

Visited last night and was such a nice evening. Beautiful setting on a boat perfect for summer with great views. Had the calamari, chicken wings and risotto balls which were all 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻 and the watermelon frose is a definite must-try! Will definitely be coming back here on nice days.

Great Sunset in NYC

By MattWilder699 |

Laid back and fun place to go with friends for an casual afterwork drink or weekend bite. Staff works hard, and the food (though some a bit overpriced) is delicious.

A fun eating experience aboard an old railroad barge.

By Leigh J |

This location makes for a fun casual eating and drinking experience aboard a converted Erie Lackawanna railroad barge on the Hudson River. It provides a panoramic view of NJ and the Manhattan skyline. Food is ordered at the counter and picked at the kitchen area. It’s basically a bar and grill menu with an emphasis on seafood.

One of my favorite NYC spots !

By USAreviewer |

I usually come here on a week day after work, but the last time I came here was on a Saturday. Usually after work I have to wait a long time on line, I think they only allow a certain amount of people on the boat at a time so you have to wait for people to come off in order to go on. It is always crowded (but not where you can't move) and always a great time, but getting a seat is difficult. On Saturday we arrived at 12:30pm since we heard that there is usually a long line upon opening at 12pm. There wasn't a line, but once 2pm hit we saw the line stretch down the pier. Inside it wasn't crowded though, it was a perfect atmosphere and scenery. Upon arriving we were lucky enough to get our own table (there were 9 of us). Some people in our party ordered food (burgers, wraps, and fries), it was delicious, especially their fries they are my favorite! They don't serve you so you receive a buzzer and pick your food up when it is ready, they were pretty quick with the food and prices weren't bad. Their buckets of corona (5 beers) are $35 and pitcher of sangria is $37. Try not to go on a windy day since the boat will rock and might cause you to get sick, especially if you get motion sickness. Other than that, this place is a MUST !!!

A 'hidden' gem

By Samantha C |

My partner and I had been told to visit Frying Pan on Pier 66 by a friend who had been. We had lunch (the most incredible beef brisket!) and drinks sat at the end of the boat in the sunshine. It was a really love way to wallow away a few hours. I would love to visit later in the afternoon/evening when I imagine there is more atmosphere and it's more lively! We walked along the High Line and jumped off half way to go and find Frying Pan, before walking along the Pier itself and down to the skate park. I was very surprised at how lovely and clean the toilets were on the boat!

A Relaxing Joint Overlooking The Hudson

By RDCNYC |

The Frying Pan are two boats located on Pier 66. There is a little bit of nosh, a lot of drink, and a whole lotta atmosphere. Perfect place to feel like you are escaping the city for a few hours...even if you are only on the water. The walk to get there is a bit of a pain, but 100% worth the wait (or the walk). Great place to go if you want an outdoor party or you are looking for a place to go that is a little different with a bunch of friends.

Amazing location, view and food!

By Capucine C |

Amazing location on the water in a floating boat. Prices are reasonable and food is good ! Totally recommend it for a beer with friends. It becomes crowded around 7pm so people are standing up but the ambiance is great! Casual outfits.

Frying Pan is a Fun Place

By sean c |

We were so excited about the Frying Pan. Scenic views. A great burger and chicken sandwich. Nice bar selection, Yes a little pricey but you right on the water! We will be back.

Great Hang out

By neurovictory |

What a blast. Am I in New York? Where are all the rude people dressed in black or gray looking like they are late for the most important meeting in the world? My eyes deceive me. Im on a pier/boat rocking gently, it is summer, daytime, There are loads of 20-30 somethings, guys in t shirts and flip flops, girls in summer dressers. Folks are drinking pitchers of beer and margaritas. The sun is shining, the Hudson river is gently rocking. Crazy.Advice: Go early, dont wait in line.

Gorgeous view !!!

By Chaba C |

I was really surprised to find this place!Unique and romantic atmosphere! Great locations!Gorgeous view!As far as I’m a big fan of seafood ,I ordered meal with the shrimp. One of the best shrimp I ever got in my life!!!!! Highly recommended!!

A great place for lunch

By 37SueFo |

We all went here for a buffet lunch after our helicopter ride, and it was a great way to spend a couple of hours. It was really buzzy and busy, and the food was very good. We had a reserved area right at the end of the pier, and it was lovely to sit by the river watching the boats and the helicopters, and the fact that it was warm and sunny was great. A trip to the loo is a must!!

Impromptu tour from the friendliest staff ever!

By krobbins722 |

My husband and I were celebrating our first anniversary and my father mentioned we should check out the Frying Pan Light Ship. It was such a unique experience to be able to tour the belly of a ship that is a North Carolina legend. The drinks were awesome, the food super yummy and the view is unbeatable! Have already told all of our friends and family in NC how cool it was to see the inside of the boat, but would recommend this stop to any and all in the area. We will be back again, for sure!

Nice very place for a drink in the sun

By Hege M |

The seasonal floating bar in Chelsea has had an interesting former life as a lightship for the coastguard in the Carolinas. Rescued and rusty engine parts on display adds to the lure of the sunken ship. It’s docked on an old railroad barge on Pier 66, an unbeatable location for a watering hole. We were looking for something thirst quenching. They have a nice list of craft beers and specialty cocktails and they were much better than expected. On a windy day the barge is rolling steadily and I wouldn’t have too many of those cocktails on the observation deck. A very nice place for a drink in the sun.

Love it!

By TPM17 |

This place is so much fun! Such a cool concept too! On a warm breezy evening this is such a fun place to grab some small bites of food and drinks. It's all self service food and drink. There are bathrooms below deck. Always seems to be a nice crowd there. There are great views and after you leave you can go for a nice walk along the river.

Great place to hang on a warm afternoon

By RandomNom |

Right on the river. Good place to hang out and have a few drinks on a lazy afternoon or pit stop on hiking along the river. Bucket of beer and a few pitcher of mango sangria.

Unbelievable

By Paddy R |

Had the nicest fish and chips ever, that says a lot considering I'm from the UK. Had one of their own beers after barman recommended it and it was delicious. had amazing views and watched the sunset. the set up is amazing with the boat theme and old train carriage. staff very friendly and prices really good

Great Location

By SUBZEROSKIDD10 |

If you’re looking for a unique experience in NYC, check out Frying Pan because it’s not just a bar/restaurant, it’s actually a boat. Located on Pier 66 near the crosswalk on 12th avenue and West 26th Street, I came here with a few friends during the blistering heat wave around July 4. Even out on the boat at night it was sweltering. It’s clearly a popular place because we couldn’t get a table up on the top deck. The bartenders were nice and the drinks were reasonably-priced. I would check it out again but this time try it in the afternoon to have better views of the Hudson River.

Hudson meal

By Laulund62 |

The Frying Pan is an old lighthouse ship transformen into a floating restaurant, it has a long and interesting story which you can read before boarding. The food onboard is of a fine quality, served in a reasonable speed. All in all a very fine experience.

Superb Seafood at its Best

By Ronald S |

Excellent dining experience on a boat bobbing up and down on the Hudson River waves, being embraced by the warm summer breeze in the striking view of the New York city skyline! Shockingly, the food and drink was even better! Do yourself a favor and make your way to this experience.

Summer Happy Hour!

By Rose D |

After a long, hot day walking the High Line and checking out the new Whitney Museum we headed to the Frying Pan. We were early enough to score a table (4:30ish) and the restaurant/bar quickly became very crowded as lots of "suits" headed there after work. You order your drink at the bar and it is served in a plastic cup. If I'm outside on or near the water, I don't care what vessel my drink is served in. We had a wonderful time relaxing in the late afternoon sun watching all the helicopters coming and going on their way presumably to the Hamptons.

Essential for nice days in NYC!!

By Connie K |

My friends and I spent the sunny Saturday afternoon here. I haven't been here in years, and this weekend was reminded how much I really love this spot. It is awesome and prices are reasonable and casual. This is exactly the place when you want on a summer day. Buckets of Corona (6) for $37; a table alongside water, a relaxed non-crowded vibe with plenty of space to explore. The food has much improved here though still standard pub. The calamari was cooked a bit to crisp; but the fries were awesome and the tuna tacos were tasty too. Water is available here too. TIP: Try to arrive before 1:30pm or before on Weekends to try and snag seat & tables. After that, you can expect wait in line to get in (and it doesn't matter if you friends have a table, security doesn't care). Sunscreen is a good idea too. Have fun!

great for grabbing drinks with friends

By Ile F |

I think this is a great place to have a nice night out, it has great views and a nice atmosphere. I went out with friends and everyone enjoyed it very much. Although if you're looking for a fancy evening this is not the place, the music is loud in some parts of the restaurant and you have to go get your food/drinks to the bar on your own. Nevertheless I would recommend it!

Visit to Frying Pan

By Dylan Trabosh |

My girlfriend and I came here and the service was absolutely horrible. They barely came to our table and forgot our drinks so many times. I feel like it was a biased server and we never plan on coming back. Terrible. Oh

Drinks on a boat

Good drinks, decent food on a boat on the hudson. A great place to best during a summer evening with friends or a date.

What a gem

By Sandy G |

Don’t miss a visit to this lovely waterfront bar and restaurant! Lovely flowers and a variety of seating options. A great place for a bite or a bucket of beers to watch sailing lessons on the river. Really unique place. Would love to visit in the evening and hear a band. Really worth a visit!

yummy seafood on a boat

great drinks and seafood. good burgers too. lovely lively fun atmosphere. on a sunny day its so pictures and perfect sunday brunch

Beautiful Place

By Aditya G |

I have just 1 word for this place, Wow.!!!! Its the most romantic place I have been. Its just beautiful. I was a t rooftop restaurants recently, but Frying pan is much better and nothing is comparable to it. Food is decent and they dont have many options. But it is an amazing place. Will be back there. Rec: evening and night time and a pleasant day, sit on the deck.!!!!

You pay for the location

By runnerchicknyc |

Frying pan has a great set up and location, but it will guzzle your bank account. The beer buckets made me shiver when I signed for it. You pay for the location.

Awesome Ambiance

By Lara G |

I came here after work one day for drinks with my boyfriend over the summer. The best part about this bar is the view and experience of being on a boat. That being said the drinks were good but nothing too special for happy hour, same with the food. It gets really busy and we struggled to find a table.

Frying Pan

By mattm m |

Defintely eat here. Food was good, wasn't fantastic but the location and ambiance was great. I think some nights they have live music, hate i missed that. We stayed for a good while. Definitely enjoyed our time there. Prices are average compared to other NY restaurants.

Great location with great food

By Polly J |

I did a lot of research for this trip and wanted to go, see and do things off the main track. So glad we went here, could have stayed all afternoon! Such a cool place located in the Hudson with amazing views of New Jersey and the Statue of Liberty. We had a couple of cocktails and beers to wash down our fish and pork tacos which were yummy!!! Highly recommended

Birthday Celebration!

By prettygirlNewYork |

Nothing fancy, just two old boats tied to the docks. Long line to get on, large crowd, find your own table, order your food, pick up you food. With all of that, I had a great time! People were friendly on the line and on the dock. Service was good and the food was Excellent! We ordered the clams, mussels, calamari and fries for appetizers. The lobster bake and dessert. The food was the freshest seafood. Delicious! Have got to go back before the summer ends! Let me not forget. The view was wonderful and the sunset was beautiful.

Great atmosphere but packed on a Friday night!

By DelusionaryVisionary |

Location, location, this one’s all about location. With a view of Hoboken and Weehawken on the Jersey side, this Chelsea bar pulls in the afterwork crowd and the sunset gazers. Many locals start their night off here, and with a range of cocktails, pitchers and some bottles of wine priced fairly reasonably, an eclectic crowd descends on this permanently anchored lightship. Views are best from the top deck of course, but most drinkers find themselves anywhere they can bag a little space; an essential Manhattan summer spot. delusionaryculinary.wordpress.com

Go for the location, not the service or food

By gpd209 |

The greeter was rude to everybody who was seated ahead of us, and gave us a hard time about being seated - even though there were lots of open tables and our entire party (of 6) was present. They forgot to serve our order twice. After 45 minutes, and two visits to the kitchen, our food was eventually delivered to us. Other parties who arrived after us had already finished their meals and departed before we got our food. The food was mediocre. Waaay over salted.

You don't need to DRINK to feel DRUNK !!!!

By HarshaReddy85 |

Would advice everyone to go in the evening during sunset so that you can start ur experience with a lovely views of sunset while waiting in the queue to enter. The path way to this restaurant is a old rail track on a dock, for all you newbies Frying pan restaurant is on a old ship which tied to the dock and keeps moving as the waves hit the dock. Waited around 10 min to enter and once entered waited around 15 min to grab a table, you just have to stand behind some table and wait for them to get out :) once settled in ordered some beers and sangria , but the best was garlic fries .. In the course of an hour and half we spent on boat we ate 5 portions of fries between 6 people :):) they were so good. Coming back to the title : Don't need to drink to feel drunk Since the boat keeps floating/moving u always feel dizzy even when u are just sitting or eating u feel u are already drunk and tipsy ... I have a feeling that if u actually drink then u may feel normal as natural dizzy feeling the boat gives will be eliminated by the dizzy that the drink provides :):) Coming to the menu I would advice garlic fries for short eats and skip the sangria if possible as I did not like it . Overall a good experience and would go again

Wedding Nightmare

By travelgirly24 |

I have tried for the last year to organise a wedding at this venue. Initially I received a proposal and it all looked fine. To cut a long story short 3 months before the wedding we attempted to make contact with the organiser whom I'd conversed with throughout the process. For 3 weeks I received no response. I then sent a friend to the venue. The manager offered to call me. He did not once in 3 weeks try to call me. All I wanted to do was extend the hire time for 1 hour as I had numerous guests coming from thousands of miles away. My friend tried to explain that I was managing the death of my mother whilst trying to organise the wedding and that my requirements were very simple. In fact the proposal had been made by the manager and we just accepted all suggestions. At our meeting in April there had been no suggestion of a time limit. When I followed up after many weeks, with no apology from venue to date for their conduct they simply stated, "well you said you'd found an alternative venue." What would they have me do? Hope that without confirmation, a written/verbal response or a contract that I would just wander down with a party of 25 people and hope for the best!? I am disgusted with the way the staff have operated and this was my dream venue...which eventuallt turned into a nightmare.

Fresh air!

By JennAndDeanGo2Dinner |

In a city full of unique and interesting places to gather the Frying Pan stands out for its excellent views and clever use of space. Different and memorable without being cheesy. Definitely makes the permanent to-do list.

Fabulous location, medriocre everything else

By Elena V |

When I say medriocre I don't mean bad, but really nothing to write home about, especially the food. And especially the smell of fried oil with which they cook the food. Then again, if you're up to some easy chicken wing snack and well priced beers, you're in for a real nice treat, because the location of this joint is really the best, and truly original. At dusk and everning, the views from the deck up to the Manhattan skyline are to die for, perhaps because they are not the typical views at all.

Lunch on the Hudson

By Wrigley62 |

We stopped for a late lunch on a Friday afternoon and were greeted by a nearly full house already. Self-serve pier was mostly full, so we went to the full-serve ship for a table, and were glad we did. Very good lobster roll, plus a good burger and some fancy mixed drinks aided the view of the NYC skyline and the shipping traffic on the Hudson. Great atmosphere!

Our new favourite place in NYC!

By CockneyBrum |

Followed a fellow reviewer's advice on what to do whilst enjoying the High Line and they weren't wrong. This place is great! We had a very reasonably priced lunch, downed a few locally brewed beers (the missus had the delicious white sangria with summer fruits) and took in the the excellent views. The security staff were really friendly and I enjoyed chatting to them whilst our little one was climbing around inside the railroad carriage (they encouraged it refreshingly!). You order your food, then get buzzed and go and pick it up. We weren't waiting long either, they had a very well organised ordering system in place. It's all very tasty, priced well and served with a smile. It's our new favourite place to relax in NYC and we will certainly be back.

Amazing ambiance, great drinks, terrible food

By MNGal31 |

I was in NYC for a quick work trip and met up with some friends at the Frying Pan. It was a gorgeous summer night and the ambiance and location of the Frying Pan did not disappoint. The sunset was beautiful and the place was hopping. It was windy so the rocking of the ship did cause a little nausea for some, but we powered through. The drinks were delicious, they are a well-oiled machine for service here. You have to walk up to one of the bars to order and the food/drinks arrive in no time. I was excited to try the pulled pork and french fries, but was very disappointed in taste. I'm honestly not a picky eater either so for me to not be able to finish a meal says something. The pork was very spicy and had a strong vinegar taste. I didn't even finish half of it. The fries were easier to eat but mushy. I would say for drinks and atmosphere, go here. If you want a good meal, you might want to go elsewhere.

Great unexpected spot on the Hudson

By travelmonkey |

Had a beer here to watch the sun set over the Hudson River away from the hustle and bustle of mainland Manhattan! They also happened to have a refloated boat moored up against it that was where the Angelina Jolie movie 'Salt' was filmed. A nice find!

What an experience!

If you want somrthing different, this is the place! An old boat, all rust up with the original captain cabin! It's worth the visit, movies are shoot there. At sunset it's unbelievable! This spot is well knowned so be there early in the evening. The food is very good but a bit expensive; 50$ for two burgers, french fries and 2 beers! But the spot is unique you won't regret it.

Great Views of the Sunset!

This is a great spot to go with friends to experience the views of the the Hudson from the west side, and feel like you are on the water while you have drinks. They even have several water stations where you can get your own water which is nice on a hot day, definitely a must at least once

Excellent Atmosphere

The Frying Pan is on an old barge that sits on the Hudson River with a spectacular view of the Freedom Tower. We only had drinks there, but I highly recommend the sangria with fresh mangoes and blueberries. Make sure to go on a warm day when you'll appreciate the breeze.

Amazing enviroment/view- very expensive though

I am a college student, this was a little pricey the drinks were about 8 bucks a piece which is a lot of for me. However, we picked a gorgeous night and the sun was setting when we were on the boat. SO WORTH IT. highly recommend.

See the sea

This is a brilliant venue for toasting the dusk and watching the sun set over a drink—that is, if you can find a good spot from which to watch it. The food is distinctly average but this locale is still worth a visit for the experience and the beer.

Disappointing!!!

Lovely location with such huge potential. Most people just drinking at 8pm should have been the warning sign. In retrospect it was good news that all the seafood specialities were not available (although this really disappointed us at first). As they would probably have been of the standard of the lobster roll and calamari we ordered - distinctly mediocre! Frozen tasteless loster in the roll came with cold fries. The calamari was so thinly sliced and overcooked it could have been onion rings!

Very impressed

Wasn't sure what we were getting into coming here. It was planned for us by a friend. I heard that it was a boat. Got there and it is more like a barge, decked into a bar/lounge. It was pretty cool. Music was good. Heard that they have a DJ sometimes. Liked the view, even though it was mostly of Jersey. Drinks were a little on the pricey side, but I suppose for what it is, it's worth it. They also have food that you can order, not that we did. It's was a drinking kind of night. Will for sure go back next time I'm in NYC. For sure.

Summer special

This is a great place to go to in summer. Good for a fun evening with friends enjoying drinks and the view. Prime location at the pier. Only thing is they don't have great food options but still I totally enjoy going here. Evenings are beautiful and fun here since its on the waters. Definitely recommend.

Unbeatable location

The first thing to be said is that the address at the top of this page and the map to the side are way off: they refer to a restaurant in Harlem, whereas all the reviews (including this one) are about the bar/restaurant on board a ship at Pier 66a & West 26th Street. What's outstanding about The Frying Pan is its setting. Otherwise it's a down-to-earth (not quite the appropriate phrase!) bar with drinks and quite a decent menu. We had a bottle of Chardonnay, a generous plate of wild mushroom and asparagus crostini, a goat cheese arugala and beet-green apple salad - all surprisingly good. Friendly service. Great to dine in the open air with waves lapping against the boat, a lively (but not rowdy) atmosphere and a feeling of being away from all the busyness of the world.

Great Food, great view, terrible cocktails

By lindamarie2016 |

Food and eating on the water is fantastic but JUST drink the beer or wine. Had 2 cocktails that I wonder if there really was alcohol added or just sugar water to cover the taste. Definitely NO NAME liquor. Sangria is just ok. Hopefully they don't water the beer or wine down. Will be back but just for food and view !

Favorite NYC lunch spot!!

After a water tour.. this place is a nice walk down the dock. They have lots of outdoor seating and the views are decent but what shines here is the local atmosphere, the friendly staff and the food. Yes it is unusual to find a staff at a restaurant where the people are actually happy and seem to enjoy their jobs. This was a great bright spot on my trip and you should enjoy it aswell...

Great place on a sunny day

Didn't even make it past the bouncers

By ThatBeckyGirl |

After traveling for over 2 days to finally visit friends in New York and with recommendations from a number of people we decide to come here. The urge for a cocktail and a few starters on a river sounded beautiful until we were rudely met by two of the most obnoxious and disrespectful staff I have ever come across. I wish I could leave their names but they wouldn't even grant me that when I asked. They were fine calling us ladies "fine" and "pretty faced" without even checking our IDs but then when my male friend, who is from New York, showed his ID they took it off him saying how it was fake and for him to "calm down" even though he wasn't saying anything. Maybe consider getting less sexist bouncers and treat your customers with a little more respect.
