Irish Pub

By ohtracey2010 |

This was a very welcoming environment. The bartender and I believe his wife were so gracious and pleasant. They were very attentive, and provided excellent service. We wandered in for dinner. I had to try the cauliflower soup, as it sounded so good. It was truly excellent. It had great flavor and was very smooth. I would order it again. I had a burger cooked just right with fries. My daughter had the beef stew as it looked good on the table across from us. She really enjoyed it. It looked like homemade. I could see people becoming regulars at this place. It was warm and inviting. I wouldn't hesitate to bring children here, as there were plenty of booths away from the bar for them.

Great Place to Grab a Bite in the City

By Flipperroni |

Food is definitely basic pub fare, but is is tasty and well-priced. Friendly atmosphere and a good place to kick back for a bit.

Little Irish gem in the heart of NYC!

By TwoOfAKindEssex |

Just what we wanted! Little haven near Times Square - quiet and intimate - we had a little booth at the end; delightful Irish waitress (interning in NY post degree); didn't want heavy meal so went for caeser salads - one with chicken and one with avocado with wine and Guinness respectively. Didn't disappoint!

Best Irish Pub in the city!

By pdboy11B |

My favorite Irish pub in NYC. Just large enough that its never too close for comfort but small enough that its still got that homey Irish pub feeling. I’ve been coming here every time I’m in the city for years and its truly the best. Despite being in Times Square its still got a neighborhood bar feeling. Great pints and great service. You can never go wrong when Sonny’s behind the bar.

Decent bar to get a drink

By guapo69 |

Gabby o haras is a nice place to get a drink. Its a typical irish ny bar, they have ample seating but usually it is for people who are eating not just drinking, the bar is small so it is usually crowded during happy hour. We have eaten here but the food is nothing special. waitstaff is courteaous and somewhat fast.

Good Food and great staff

By Murielle C |

Loved that pub. Food is good, the staff if courteous and friendly, specially Caroline who recognized us the second time we went. I had the chicken mozzarella burger. The dishes are for good appetite and very good.

An irish oasis in a bustling city

By Cedric G |

What we liked: Everything. Great beers, and a solid menu of pub grub. Just your typical irish pub. What we disliked: Having to leave to visit NYC, because it would have looked bad if we spent our entire holiday drinking in a pub.

Great Food and Great Prices

By smarley1 |

Found this place while the wife was shopping - what else is a guy to do? Had a couple of beers while watching the football. English Premier League. Then came back later with the better half for more beer and food. Service was excellent and staff very friendly. The food was great too.

Lovely food, lovely staff

By Michelle S |

We stayed in NYC in April, found this little Irish pub on 39th street just off 6th Avenue. Had food here 3 days out of 5 as it was good home cooked food at reasonable prices. Plenty to choose from on the menu. The staff were friendly and couldn’t do enough for you. I fact the waiters words were “we must be doing something right, you keep coming back!!” Well worth a visit.

super place

loved everything about it staff made you feel very weclome was are fav bar

A little bit of Irish in NY

By kilnaclan |

Knew of this pub before going to NY so went intentionally to see it in person. Had dinner 3 nights as food was plentiful and reasonable priced. The bar staff were very friendly and remembered our drinks order when we arrived on the 2nd night. They even charged my dead phone as we went direct from being out sightseeing without returning to the hotel. Definately worth a visit

Irish Atmosphere

By Munrovius |

Very comfortable and friendly Irish pub. The two members of the wait staff that we met were both natives of Ireland. We were seated immediately. The authentic shepherd's pie and the shrimp in a basket were both great light meals before the theatre. A glass of wine for each of us and dinner for two for under $60.00.

What a find!!

By Christine M |

stumbling around looking for a quick bite for lunch, what a find!! The Irish pubs in NYC are really fantastic! Great food, good portions, real pub style atmosphere and it was nice and cool after lots of walking. Our server, right from Ireland was very pleasant and accommodating! if you find yourself in the area, VISIT !

Nice place - friendly staff

By bl0ndie72 |

We enjoyed a couple of hours drinking at Gabby OHaras as it was an Irish Bar close to our hotel . Very friendly bar staff. Good selection of beers & liquors & great variety of sport on the TVs. Excellent place to drink

Great service, handy location

By DaayTrippers |

Stopped in for drinks before a Broadway show. Atmosphere was welcoming, crowd was pleasant and the service was great. We ended up having dessert as well. NY Cheesecake that was wonderful.

Typical pub type food, pretty goo

By 340terrencem |

Gabby's is a fairly typical Irish pub. The food and drink are both good and the prices are reasonable. You won't leave there hungry since the portions are substantial.

Good Irish pub neat Time Square

By Merryheart |

Nice Irish pub with good music. Not too crowded & noisy. Great place for a hang out after a long day. The Stout here is very fresh and smooth, highly recommended!!

Great Irish pub in the middle of Times Square

By smoothsleek |

We were on holidays and were looking for somewhere to eat around Times Square and happened to come across this place. I had a steak sandwich which was cooked to my liking and my wife had shepherd's pie. The staff were great and the place has a lovely atmosphere and is beautifully decorated. Will definitely be calling there again when I return to New York.

Good food, great staff, good value

By 116carol |

Had my first meal in NYC here 2 weeks ago. Nice friendly atmosphere and the waitering staff (all Irish girls that night) were so friendly and helpful (we're from N. Ireland too and they give us loads of tips to get around, explained how things are done in NYC). Food was nice, wholesome and good value for NYC. Toilets are clean and plenty of room - no queuing required. Excellent overall, would definitely recommend and return.

Love this Pub!

By Lori L |

Great Irish Pub with excellent bartenders (Aidan and Andrew) who always make you feel welcome along with the rest of the team. Lots of locals and tourists, great mix of people. Open until 4:00am, kitchen closes at midnight. Always our favorite stop for drinks at the bar. Love their fish and chips too. Great location right by Bryant Park and Times Square. Be sure to stop in for a pint or two.

A Real Gem

By sportz fotos |

I'd Googled "Irish Pubs Midtown NYC" before we left home. didn't realise there were so many! anyhoo, decided to give Gabby's a go one Friday evening (our second in NY). pleasantly surprised. while the bar area was full of locals having a brew before heading home, the eating area had a couple of spare tables... can't remember exactly what I ordered, but it was tasty and quite filling.. not to mention the beer. cold and lots of it with great service by the staff. we liked the place so much, we dropped in two nights later for dinner on a Sunday evening. much, much quieter than the Friday... to top off a really great day (Yankee Stadium to watch our first MLB game, and then having the US President drive by our hotel, really set the day off), this time I ordered a sirloin steak and SWMBO ordered fish and chips... the steak was in my opinion BETTER than the one I had eaten in the Pinnacle Grill on board the ms Eurodam only a couple of days earlier. passed on my well deserved appreciation to the chef. very highly recommend Gabby O'Haras.

Once was enough

By WeLike2Wander |

The fish in the fish and chips reminded me of fish nuggets from a kids tv dinner. The chips were just okay until i smothered them in curry. The city was good though. The reek of the weed store next door made the whole place unappealing after being there for awhile. The only saving grace was the fact that they served Smithwicks on tap. The whiskey Ginger that I had for dessert was inappropriately small and all you could taste was the ginger beer as if there was no whiskey in it at all

Great Irish Pub off Broadway

By bandman15 |

I enjoyed a couple of meals at this restaurant on my latest trip to NYC.....and I think I've reviewed this place before.....it has a nice beer selection, full bar and a great selection of "fish/chips" and sandwiches plus traditional Irish food......the staff is friendly and helpful. It is a great location just a few steps from the heavy traffic of 42nd Street/Broadway. They also have several large screen TV's playing all of the time. To change a channel to your favorite game, just ask the bartender!

Very authentic Irish Pub

By bandman15 |

On my recent trip to NYC, I discovered this pub around the corner from my hotel. Having just visited Ireland, where I had a great time, I was intrigued by the possibility of a visit to an Irish Pub. I was not disappointed. The food is way beyond averaged and the service was fast and friendly. Reasonably priced as well. The decor just makes the experience even better.

Best Pub ever

By littledevil85 |

The best pub I went into in New York, made to feel so welcome by Andy, Joe and Owen (no I have spelt it wrong) we went in on St.Patricks day and never left all day, and went back a few days later to eat and food was really good. Miss all the lads but we will be back. Thanks for looking after us. Laura & Louise

Great place...

By Donna H |

What a fun neighborhood pub. The service was great. My husband and I shared an 8 ounce bacon cheeseburger (loaded and with fries). It was the best bacon cheeseburger in the history of bacon cheeseburgers. Loved the relaxed atmosphere.

Pretty good first time visit

By NickPop |

Although the first time we walked in it was like we were invisible, we tried again the next night and were glad we did. The dinner we had was reasonably priced, good quality and decent sized portions. We had bangers and mash and chicken pot pie. Both were very tasty. Service the 2nd night was fast and efficient. The pub was busy and full of atmosphere. We actually tried a 3rd night on St Patrick's Day, but it was standing room only out the door!!

Friendly pub

By N0rthumbrian |

Visited twice while in New York over Labour Day weekend to get out of the heat! A really friendly welcome and a great lunch on the second visit, would highly recommend.

Loved it!!

By nicola b |

Called in for lunch on our last day of our holiday in NYC. We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch. The service was great and the food just as good. We finished off with an Irish whisky. The best I've ever been served! Lovely!!

Great find in midtown

By Deb N |

We were wandering around for a bite to eat and stumbled onto this pub. The food was great, service was great, and prices were reasonable. A hidden gem in midtown. They're we're a few tables outside, which we took advantage of, and the waitress checked on us regularly.

Average meal. Average Pub. Great prices

By RobBflo1 |

my meal here was OK, and I found the atmosphere pretty standard Irish pub styles. Nothing really stood out with either my food or ambiance. Service was good. But prices were great, especially for this area of NY

Nice find

By trav521el |

We ordered one of the specials, lamb shepherd's pie, which was out of this world delicious. We also ordered the turkey club, which was okay. The turkey meat was good and warm. I asked for a side of mayo as the sandwich seemed a bit dry without it. We wanted to try the bailey's cheesecake for dessert but unfortunately they were sold out. We got the regular cheesecake, which was a bit lackluster and had no graham cracker crust. The lamb's shepherd's pie made our night though. There were quite a few actual real Irish patrons that were eating there too, which I think says something. All in all, I'm glad we stopped there.

Great Food and Guinness poured well

By Kevin J |

It's an Irish Pub. I know there are many of them, but this one knows what it is and does it well. And .. for the Karaoke crowd, they have Dave on Tuesday's and it starts at 7:30! Have bangers and mash, a Guinness or two, sing a song with the crowd .. a great evening.

good pub food

By Eileen P |

always a great meal at gabby oharas. great service as well. highly recommend stopping in. good beer selections, huge bar, great food.

Service was great

By OntarioJellybean |

We were looking for fast pub fare and got it. The BLT sandwich was so loaded with bacon that we took a picture of it. Otherwise, it was the typical battered stuff with no complaints. Was a bit surprised by the overtly country music playing. Expected something a bit more celtic. Service was excellent and friendly.

A Little Bit of Ireland

By Jesie |

The Irish theme is very authentic with pictures of famous people at various ages. Irish beer and food as well as great food.

Favorite Irish Pub in Times Square area

By MaNa99 |

I stayed at the Residence Inn right around the corner, and found this place to be a great little pub nearby. I stopped one night for a beer, and then decided to go for dinner one night later in the week. Bartenders are friendly, beer was cold, and food was good...can't ask for much else.

Nice place to step by

By Christopher I |

After a whole day in the city we stepped inside and were greeted with a warm welcome b a very friendly barkeeper. Great food, very good value for money and free WiFi, that is actually working to top it off. That is a really place in the middle of midtown.

Evening Meal

By Scott F |

Had the Chill and a Guinness....oh and a New York Cheesecake. The food was good, the Guinness was excellent. Not to busy, we came at 7pm on a Sunday.

Nice find

By W3sS |

Looking to watch the World Cup we were told of this pub by one nearby security guard Glad we asked her Nice cosy place and comfortable environment. Beer on tap was nice and cold with staff being friendly and warm

IF YOU WANT IRISH THIS IS THE PLACE

By Neal S |

We got a tip from the doorman down the street to stop into this pub on 39th off Bway. Hard to find but worth the effort...to our surprise! The Irish [really Irish with strong accent] bartender Paul was a hoot, very personable and gracious. My wife had tripped on the curb and fell, scraping her knee and hand. We asked the doorman what might be open on this Sunday afternoon in midtown and so it started. Paul gave Terry the key to the employee bathroom so she could clean up her wounds...a very nice compassionate gesture obviously! We only intended to have a quick drink to calm us down -- Terry her Chard and me a margarita. Irish don't do margaritas...well! After I tried the drink Paul confessed he did not know how to mix a margarita and invited me to tell him how to make a really strong, really good Cadillac margarita...well after that second round, we decided to eat there as well. Another nice surprise - not just pub food [bangers & mashed], but also huge salads [I had the tuna salad with fixins and it was really tasty], Terry had the pork chop with baked potato, also very tasty. There is a daily menu of specials as well as the regular bar menu. A nice place to go for some fun and good food....try the 'Neal' margarita....ask Paul!

Great food & music!

By ggp2509 |

Great music and ambient. The food was amazing, fish & chips crusty and good flavor. The chicke quesadilla one of my favorites. Value for money good deal.

Large portions at a good price!

By WiMomwithteens |

My son and I went there on a Saturday night. There was no wait for a table. They have a big menu, and the servings are huge. My son ordered the shrimp and fries, and really liked the shrimp. I had a Cajun chicken breast special - there was so much food I didn't come close to finishing it! Friendly service, nice atmosphere.

Horrible bartender

By J D |

Horrible service! Our bartender (wish I got his name) was horrible! Did not want to talk to us at all and would blatantly ignore us as he walked passed on several occurrences. For someone working at a place literally situated in the heart of tourism you’d think he’d be used to non-locals, but that evidently was not the case! He was so rude that we just got up and walked to the next bar. Don’t event bother with this place!

Great

By Luis Otarola |

Recommended by hotel receptionist;went today and will definetly go back tomorrow.Good quality food, lots of choices, great service, good price.I mean, you can’t ho wrong here.

Bang for your Buck!

By colleenl330 |

We went to dinner on a Tuesday evening at Gabby O'Hara's. The amount of food you receive for the price is outstanding. The basket of onion rings for $5 would feed 3-4 people and they were delicious. I ordered the crab cakes and the plate of sides and cakes was overflowing. My friend ordered sheppards pie and again when the food arrived, you had to say wow, that's a lot of food and the quality was good as well. Also a nice bonus is karaoke Tuesdays, nice crowd and atmosphere and music not too loud while you enjoy your dinner or cocktails. The menu offered many items to choose from. I highly recommend this place.

Perfect Pint of Guiness!

By SlotF16 |

Have not has the food but the beer, atmosphere, and service are great!

Customer service was awesome but..

By justlimin2 |

Kudos to the guys who managed to stay open through most of the hurricane. Bit of a wait to get a table and food was not the best. They tried very hard to give customers something to eat , with some creative ideas due to lack of supplies. We ate there again a few days later and not much had improved.

Lovely IRISH PUB

By Barbara-Jane M |

Lovely pub just round the corner from our hotel. Husband really enjoyed it as it had tap Guinness. Ordered food and and it was all delicious. The sandwiches and burgers are huge and the chips are plentiful. The nachos were very tasty too. Waitress service was attentive and they always made sure we had enough drinks etc. price reasonable too. The only downside is the smell of weed. Unsure if it’s from the other customers or comes in from outside but it is very strong but this doesn’t reflect on the pub just a personal thing from my side. Well worth a visit. We visited twice and we got the chicken rice soup and it was very nice.

We went here for drinks every night!

By imdesired |

Our hotel was down the street (the residence inn), and their hotel bar closes super early, so we'd end up here every night. The wait staff was fantastic - so friendly and accommodating. We only had a couple bar food items, so I can't really rate those, what we did have was great. But such a nice little place.

Very Friendly

By Romlay |

Lovely ales both local and international in a warm, friendly environment so close to Times Square. Well worth a few pints after a day of work or shopping!

Food is really poor

By David M |

We have been to this pub over the last few years and overall it’s been great However tonight they served us up food that had been reheated and in part not cooked. So very disappointed as the bar staff are good. Tonight they gave us food that was poor and I think they know that and it was poor Won’t go there again

The portions are not for the faint of heart

By Harvey H |

I had the lamb burger with Cajun fries and my wife had the BLT with fries. I think they used a small pig to get all the bacon in her sandwich. Both sandwiches were delicious with good flavor. Combined with a nice Guinness they hit the spot. Friendly service topped it all off.

Cool, relaxed Irish pub

By scottworld |

I popped in here on the way back to Penn Station. Great, relaxed, jovial atmosphere. Sat at the bar - friendly, efficient service. I had the bangers 'n' mash ... Lovely. Will make this my hangout each time I return to NYC.

Great pub

By lynnmegamike |

Concierge at residence inn suggested this place when we asked for pub type fare close by. Our waitress was very attentive and sweet. Service was quick. Enjoyed fish and chips-great, steak salad-good and chicken pot pie-huge and delicious. Would def get chicken pot pie if you are a fan. Came on a rainy Saturday night around 630 and no wait. We will be back next time we visit!

Such a good pub

By Paul M |

We are on holiday to New York and found the pub round the corner from the hotel. The welcome was warm and friendly and the food was fantastic. We will return on our next visit

A fun afternoon in an Irish style pub near Bryant Park in NYC

By napngs |

We stopped here for drinks on Wed 12/27/25 4pm before our return on a bus trip to Bryant Park. This was our second visit here, short walk from Bryant Park. Found seats at the bar. Were brought our drinks & menus by friendly bartender. Big place with a sparse crowd until the work shift arrived at 5pm, then nearly full house. Great bar selection of draft beers, wine, & extensive liquor offerings. Fun atmosphere-friendly mix of patrons. We shared an app & two more drinks. Very clean restrooms downstairs. Fair prices for NYC. We enjoyed our short visit. Open 11am-4am Mon-Sat, 12pm-4am Sun. Sunday brunch 12pm-4pm. Also locations in Midtown & Times Square in NYC. We highly recommend Gabby O'Hara's for a fun, friendly visit. Thank you, Nick & Liz, Albany, NY, USA

Great Atmosphere!

By HaleyandSteve |

At the end of a long day, Gabby O'Hara's was a great place to sit for a bit! I love Maureen O'Hara and "The Quiet Man" is one of my favorite movies so it made the stop even better! We found the place between lunch and dinner - the bar was full, but we did not wait for a table. Service was friendly, helpful and efficient. Our appetizer was from the specials sheet, and it was delicious. We ordered sandwiches and fries - portions were huge, taste of the sandwiches was nothing above average, and I hate frozen fries. (A pile of fresh-cut fries would have changed everything about the meal!) We will go back if we are in the neighborhood!

Beware of the Juke Box Bandit!

By nmbelton |

While we were eating our appetizers & enjoiying the atmosphere, I decided to get the party going, I inserted a dollar into the jukebox & picked a few songs. When the second song came on, the "juke box bandit" appeared with a remote in hand, and changed my next two song selections (?) When I approached him about it, his response was "I didn't know" (?) Not cool, not cool at all .....

stupid good service. love you Aiden ❤️

By Shachar W |

best service we ever had, and we're nt from NYC Aiden is the nicest human we encountered in this city by a wide margin. their kitchen was closed, so he HELPED US ORDER FOOD TO THE BAR we had trouble with our international number, so he called the place like 5 times, and made sure they knew the adress. we had an awesome conversation about British colonialism, and his accent was only a bit distracting. 20/10, will come again

Good pub food

By Lontana |

We went there twice. All the dishes we had were nice, in particular the mashed potatoes. The beer selection is very good. The volume of the music allows for conversations. A bit more empathy in one of the waiters towards the guests would add another plus to the location. If we come back to the city we will visit again.

When Irish eyes are smiling....

By gppwow |

Little place off of West 39th Street, just off of Broadway. True Irish pub. Smithwick's on tap. All the waiter's are true Irishmen. Food is true pub food, nothing fancy or pretentious. But they make you feel like part of the family. On Tuesdays, hang around for karaoke! What a blast. The entire pub gets into the action. Just watch how quickly you are downing the smooth butterballs... Spend a night, you will enjoy!

Good place for a pint

By Yvonne D |

We spent a while looking for a bar where we could rest our weary legs and stumbled upon Gabby's. We didn't eat, but had a Guinness or two to start and then moved on to Goose IPA. I know I said pint in the title of this review, but be warned that the glasses are much smaller than a proper pint. The owner/manager and other bar staff are not extremely talkative which I found strange in an Irish bar, but yet the patrons were more so. A comfortable place, and one I would recommend.

Just around the corner from the Marriott

By Patch007London |

This is probably the closest bar to our hotel, Marriott Times Sq. South. Sometimes Irish bars get a bad name but this was lovely. Terrific music - not Irish - extremely courteous staff, good beer and wine and terrific food. Not silver service of course but then who wants that!

Fantastic

By Irene G |

Popped in one evening, and had some fab food.all homemade.the fish and chips and the pecan pie were delicious, the sausage and mash went down very well.

Atmosphere, comfort food and good beer selection

By ILikedTheColor |

The chicken pot pie was to die for! It's pure comfort food -- yummy mashed potatoes and sides -- which you can take back to your hotel room (we did). Loved the atmosphere with dark wood and soft lighting. -everyone in our party happy with menu selections -excellent wait staff -old wood interior -cold beer -great location a few blocks from Times Square (Garment District)

The Best Service

By jillianon |

Stumbled upon Gabby’s, really enjoyed the food but it was the service that made us return for a second visit, Monica made the visit memorable for all the right reasons with her Irish charm. Good food and drinks, good value and fantastic service.

What a gem of a bar!!

By Kelly |

We found this bar/restaurant on our second day in New York, and what a find it was!! We were in NY for two weeks and we visited his lovely little bar nearly every day!! The staff and service were absolutely brilliant, can't fault them at all, the food was fantastic, a large menu with added daily specials, the portions were huge and very good value for money. All in all you really need to visit here if you are in NY, a really friendly welcome on every visit!! Thanks to all for a great time.

Great spot for late night meal

By BeingGreen |

We stumbled on this place by accident really--desperate for a spot open after a late night out. Our meal was served quickly and we thought it was great--Burgers were just right, Good flavor. I would go back!

Average Irish Pub

By jandthud |

I ate here one evening while staying at the Courtyard next door. It was average. I had the Shepard's Pie, and while good, could have used a deeper layer of meat and the gravy was not very good (had a bad taste). One thing bad about this place, it is very small and most patrons just go to the bar. When I was there, it was impossible to get through the crowd of people standing around the aisle at the bar. I think the restaurant should try to keep an aisle clear. I almost walked back out because I thought the place was full, but it was just the front with plenty of open tables.

Felt right at home

By TheEpicureanQueen |

Hubby and I were walking back to our hotel and spotted this little gem! Drinks and music were perfect! And the temperature was just right to shake off the NYC chill.

Great Place

By Mswark Ms |

Found it next to the hotel. Walked in and Ayden treated my wife and I the best way. He made her his special drink called a Pineapple Express. Fantastic. Then we ate fish and chips and I had the Irish sausage plate. Both were great and Ayden kept up well entertained and not letting us get thirsty. Go in and say hi. Eat, drink and be Merry.

Massive portions!!!

By Janvanj7 |

Looking for somewhere to eat and came across this place. Looked at the menu and decided to give it a go. Reasonably priced food and massive portions. Bar staff very attentive. Nice atmosphere in the bar too. I had turkey wish mash (bucket load) veg and gravy. The miss’s has sliders with a mountain of fries. Just make sure your hungry!!!!!

Rest after a long walk

By 123badger007 |

A fantastic pub ! A bit hidden away but well worth looking for ! Prices are better than any other pub we have seen for drinks and the food is of an excellent quality !! Well worth finding !!!

Delicious Irish food

By JudyLorenzo40 |

Absolutely loved this place ......food was good, not too expensive and the service was great....especially Caroline. If I ever find myself in NYC again, I will definitely visit Gabby’s.

Not a happy customer

By Hilary L |

The 'special' chicken parmesan was terrible, stale, not hot enough. Service was reasonable when I returned my food but when it came back, it had been microwaved and was still horrible.

Great pub food

By pennych |

This was a great pub for food , had a large menu plenty of choice real pub grub, good atmosphere the staff are very friendly . I would recommend this pub . It is just around the corned from Times Square.

Good Guiness, not many beers on tap

By Honza_1 |

Nice staff, Guiness is good but the selection of beer on tap is not really big. The food is not bad, but nothing special.

good place

By JeremiahF |

I like it there. Food is good and prices are - well Manhattan style but not the highest. Bloody Mary very good. Crowded after work but friendly. Had the sheps pie and corned beef. Both very good.

Our Favorite Pub stop in NYC

By TravelTerri297 |

The hubs and I tend to have a few places in New York City that we must visit each time we go into the city. Gabby's is one of them. We found this gem back in November 2011 when we stayed at a hotel around the corner. We've been many times. We've never eaten there so I can't speak to the food. However, I'm confident in saying that it's a comfortable place to just hang out with friends and have a few pints. If you're reading this and are thinking of giving it a try, it doesn't hurt to stop in and order a drink. The bar is long and so is the beer list! Enjoy!

Fun Place

By HitTheRoad32903 |

This is a fun pub located right near the Marriott Courtyard and Residence Inn. Decent beer prices (for NYC) and a friendly staff. Casual atmosphere with excellent bar food.

Great Service Mediocre Food

By Sandra G |

Three of us had dinner here before we went to a play. Two enjoyed an Irish red ale and the other had a not so good glass of Pinot grigio. We all had a cup of the featured split pea soup and liked it very much. The entrees weren't so good. One got a broccoli cheddar quiche in which the crust was overly thick and doughy. It came with a huge salad of mixed greens, cucumber, tomatoes, carrot bits and red onions that was fresh and good. Another got the chicken pot pie and said the inside was much too creamy. A third person got the fish and chips and liked them. The waitress, who was from Ireland, was very friendly and provided great service. She cancelled out the mediocre food. The ambience was very warm and inviting, just the way I like a pub to be. I would go back, but order something more basic like a burger.

Enjoyable pub

By jcrichton |

We visited this pub a few times during our recent visit to New York - mainly for a refreshing drink during the spell of very hot weather that the city was experiencing but on 2 occasions we had a meal. The food was excellent and they have a good selection of beers and both food and drink are reasonably priced. All the bar staff were all very friendly and welcoming.

Spacious and reasonably priced

By geo p |

Spacious and reasonably priced. Service was very good. The burger and fries were tasty. my friend ordered the shepherds pie and liked it

Proper Irish Pub

By 7turns7 |

A proper Irish pub with a red headed bar tender direct from the old country. Had a pint of Guinness and shepherds pie. Tasty and at a fair price.

Good food at a reasonable price.

By Terry S |

Once you step inside this place you could be in a quaint British pub. The beer is good and at $6 it is half the price we paid at Bubba Gumps! We ate here three times and had salads, fish and chips, soup, burgers, chicken and a couple of baskets of their delicious onion rings. The menu is very varied and we could have been more adventurous but we weren't! It gets busy at normal meal times so we tended to eat at about 3-4pm and were served very quickly. Excellent value for money.

It'll do

By MangaMan |

Could not get a seat on the first attempts. Did on the second. It's a standard Irish pub like you see every few blocks. Good fish and chips. Nothing terrible to report, nothing outstanding. If you want a pint and a quick meal, should be a safe bet.

By Yves L |

Friendly people, a good place to get a Guinness or two...quiet on a late saturday afternoon. Ambiance ++ wife comment: red wine was warmer than it should be served , my beer was at just right temperature :-> and second too.

As good as it gets for Irish Pubs or anything else for that matter

By Donald W |

First, OUTSTANDING service from Enda. He brings his Irish authenticity to the table and delivers excellent recommendations and top service with a friendly approach. Next, if you haven't had the Chicken pot pie, turn around, Go back and get one Top it off with O'Hara's Irish Red. Be sure to check them out on West 39th street.

Full of character

By opinion1952 |

Had an evening meal here and while all the 'Irish' pubs had pretty much the same menu, this was good. Quite loud but staff found us a quiet corner but it all just added to the atmosphere that people were enjoying themselves. Recommend the 'One pot Chicken pie' as a good wholesome meal. You have to order fries if you want chips with it but it doesn't really need them unless hungry which we were.

Disappointing

By JacksBee |

I never thought I'd find a bad pub in New York City, but Gabby O'Hara's fits the bill. I stopped by for dinner with a bunch of friends on a Friday night, and the place was empty. Maybe that should have been a sign? The server didn't seem to have any interest in us from the beginning, even though we were practically the only table in the whole place. We ordered onion rings for the table as an appetizer, and they were tasty. However, I ordered fish and chips as my meal, and while the chips were fine, the fish was saturated with oil. I know fish and chips is going to be somewhat greasy, but not to the point where all you are eating is oil. The server never came back to check on us or ask us for other beverages, and trying to get the check involved a 15-minute wait, until someone in my group had to walk up to the bar and interrupt her conversation with the bartender. Won't go back again.

Great Irish meals before a Musical

By Barry S |

We were in NYC to see Get On Your Feet (Excellent) and I wanted to take our Irish friends to one of my favorite spots in the Times Square area. We went for an early dinner (5PM) and were very pleased with all of our meals. We also love their Irish Red beer. Shepard's Pie - Excellent Reuben - Excellent Open Face Hot Turkey - Very Good We will go back on our next visit to Gabby's !!!

Great Service, Great Food, and a Perfect Pour

By Ben T |

The Shepherd’s Pie and Chicken Pot Pie were fabulous, the Guinness had the perfect head, and our bartender was wonderful.

Great Comfort Food

Waitress was very attentive, knew the menu very well. Typical Irish pub fare - Burgers, Fish & Chips, Bangers & Mash and my favorite "Harp" on draft!!

A good meeting place 5 minutes from Grand Central

By Karl C |

Brian, our server at this warm Irish Pub near Bryant Park is 3 months in country. He pronounced his name "Brine". Authenticity. His service was excellent. 5 of us shared an app platter for $14 and two or three drinks each at a leisurely pace. The tab was $125 plus tip. This is a nice place to chat, hang out and watch sports. It is two and a half long blocks from Grand Central and one long block from Broadway where it's just 2 more short blocks from Times Square. It is far enough away from the tourist crunch so you can hear yourself speak and relax, but still a quick walk to the Theaters. Simple pub grub. Beers $6, drinks and wine $9. Good place.

Ok

The first night we visited this bar the food was very good. The 2nd night my meal was not so good as I was expecting a nice turkey dinner but what I did get was pile of processed turkey meat from a packet. My husband had the chicken pie which he said was nice and tasty. The blonde waitress could do with a bit more customer service training as it seemed an effort for her to serve you. All in all it is still the best Irish bar we found in Manhattan with reasonable prices for food and drink and has a nice atmosphere.

Good food, nice bartender, happy hour! Midtown gem.

We were hot, tired and didn't want a pretentious, overpriced dinner. The lovely guy at the hotel desk recommended Gabby O'Hara's, right around the corner. It's a typical Irish pub. Quite large, but everything was really nice. Happy hour is a good bargain. We had a cheeseburger and a (terrific) Ruben at the bar. Both were delish. No problem getting a salad instead of fries and it was a huge, fresh salad with good variety. We live in NYC and plan to come back, even though it's not in our neighborhood.

A Good Watering Hole

By Kathleen R |

I love trying new places when I'm in NYC so I stay away from chain restaurants. I will ask my hotel staff for recommendations and I cross check it with online reviews. I'm not sure what happened with this one. I was told the food here was amazing, so my teenage daughter and I decided to give it a try. Upon entering, it was obvious it was a great place for happy hour. Lots of young people clinking pints of beer. It was very loud and people were having a great time. The back of the room was the restaurant. It seemed like a fun place and we were there for the food. We were seated at the last table in the back. Maybe this was the beginning of our problems. The waiter eventually came over to take our drink order and some time later he finally returned with the drinks. It was busy, so I completely understand the delay. He seemed to disappear for awhile so we had to flag him down to place our food order. He was not where to been seen after that. When a group of pretty young ladies were seated next to us, he appeared. He waited on them hand and foot while we tried to get his attention. Another waitress finally came over and took over our service. If I move beyond the service, the food was not good. I ordered fish and chips, which I thought would be a specialty for this place. They were so very greasy. My daughter's meal looked like it was frozen food that was reheated. The fries were also a weird texture and had no seasoning. With all the places to eat in NYC - skip this one. If you are look for a place to grab a drink, then I would consider this a great happy hour location.

Amazing fries

By trevelord |

We stopped here for a drink and quick bite to eat. Had the BLT and fries. Loads of fries and tons of bacon in the sandwich. Also ordered a plate of wings. Sauce is on the side and the wings were cooked well and crispy. Delicious! Service was quick and we had a nice time visiting with the bartender. Very warm and welcoming place!

A comfy Irish Pub in midtown

By pstoehr |

We come here occasionally after a matinee, on our way back to Long Island. All the staff are Irish, mostly from outside of Galway, so the bar vibe is really welcoming. We always eat at the bar. Usually a just hamburger or Reuben sandwich, although we have had dinner dishes as well. Food is good, comes quickly, and is quite reasonably priced. There are 6 or 8 beers on tap, and they do a pretty good half and half (black and tan). Pretty much our go to midtown pub.

Worth The Stop

Our trip to New York June 6-9 was very pleasant. We happened upon Gabby O'Hara's 123 W.39th st. between 6th and Broadway. The authentic atmosphere reminded us of the pubs we visited during our trips to Ireland. The menu was varied and had something for everyone. Prices were not horrible and the service was exceptional. Our Galway girl was attentive and was just perfectly lovely. Our only regret was that we did not get her name. We plan to revisit next trip.

St. Patrick's Day must.

By DanburyFoodie |

Was there during the madness of St. Patrick's Day. I'd love to have it as a regular haunt even if I'm only Irish 1x a year. Bangers and Mash was decent, Shepards Pie good too. The overall ambiance was excellent. Tommy, the owner, was on site and was friendly and quick to welcome patrons behind bar for pictures. He and staff made a memorable afternoon and evening.

They have Guinness of course

By Bruce A |

We went for drinks late one Sunday night while walking back to our hotel. Can't speak for the food but the bartender was attentive and the Guinness tasted great!

four is a tad generous, but it's fine

A Galway pub, this. No harm in that. I happended upon it the other evening at the very moment hunger struck. It's pretty uninviting from the outside, but don't let that put you off. The food was really good, and plentiful. I had crabcakes. They weren't homemade or anyting, but the veg were beautifully cooked, a range of courgette, broccoli, cauli etc, done to perfection. Often in places like this, the veg is just about ready to transmogrify into semi liquid paste. Not here. And lashings of good mashed potato. Two pints of Brooklyn draft finished the scenario nicely. A mark off for the loud gang of chanting drinkers behind me, but overall a good evening. Thanks Aidan, the barman.

Cosy bar for a drink

By stevebintley |

On the Saturday evening I visited this was actually a fairly peaceful place for a drink! There’s a long bar with plenty of seating and the booths are all clean and comfortable. There’s a good number of TV screens around and the service was friendly enough; I’ll be returning!

NYC in December

By niknokhavi |

We visited here for a quick bite to eat before our flight home as I have fallen in love with Irish bars in NYC. We chose to eat at the bar which is something I enjoyed doing in the bars in the city. I choose the chicken pot pie and again was not disappointed and loved every mouth full.

Great little pub

By 263davea |

Found this place while visiting New York. Found great hospitality from the staff be it day or night. They had plenty of different beer on tap and the food was tasty and well priced. Definitely worth a visit if you're after a low key pub to have a pint or three.

good place

i loved the atmosphere and the food was good too, good service and close to the hotel i was staying (The Holiday Inn Express Times Square)

Good food, slow service

By LMHill0104 |

We went to the pub for dinner and we were the only customers there aside from a couple of people at the bar. We were seated directly next to the hostess stand. We placed our order and waited for quite a long time. The hostess/waitress sat down next to us, for on her phone, and ate her dinner. She never checked on us or asked if we needed anything. Finally, someone came out from the kitchen and yelled to her if she had someone waiting on food. She finally got up and brought us our dinner. The food was good and the restaurant was very nice but the service was awful.

Relaxing Irish Pub for a break in the action in the city!

By Artisticwander |

Small little quaint irish pub with good food and drink! Salads were adequete! Potato skins were good but loaded with a bit too much bacon! Almost like 1/2 a potato rather than skins! Beer was cold and nice selection! Just a relaxing small pub to sit and relax for a spell before going back out in the cold and Christmas rush!!!

Good food!

By Jane B |

Gabby' sis a great place to get good food! I had the Reuben sandwich, and the corned beef was piled high. The atmosphere was inviting, and as you would expect in an Irish pub, full of interesting pictures and ie s to look at. Service was great, a young lady named Lorna waited on me. Ask for her if you go there this summer, she returns to Ireland in the fall!
