Quality Restaurant with Attentive Management

By ROBERT I |

This restaurant is dramatically beautiful. There are a few tables upon entry then a beautiful bar with tables nearby having a view of the bar shelves going 2 stories high. Then there are more tables in two spaces and then a balcony in the back. The management and staff here really care. They are friendly and involved because they intend to earn your satisfaction. The menu leads to very good food choices. We had a couple of good starters, then branzino and perfect desserts. Very good quality food. Wines by the glass are good pours. I keep my 5 ratings for places I really love like and that I intend to share and return to myself. Highly recommended.

Don't think twice - go in!

Wonderfully spontaneous - went in without expectation we were so surprised by. It costs a little more - but it's worth it , the food is excellent, the portions are sumptuous and the service very friendly and pleasant. The ambience is stunning.

Wonderful find

I’m surprised this place doesn’t have more reviews - we had a fantastic experience. There were five of us and we paid around $220 for 1 drink each, trio of dips with crudités and pitas, 3 appetisers, one main and one side. This was plenty of food so we thought the portion size and value for money was good. The food was all delicious and authentically Greek (as good as food I’ve had in Greece). The staff were all lovely and very attentive. The decor of the restaurant was beautiful as well.

I don't understand why this restaurant has only one review so far, and I certainly disagree with it. Our own experience was quite the opposite: we loved the food and thought the service was friendly and attentive. The restaurant has a beautiful decor with lofty ceilings and stained glass windows; lighting is subtle and the tables have proper cloth tablecloths and napkins. We enjoyed mezze starters, spinch and feta pie and a very meaty moussaka so much that we ate there again the following day, this time haveing roasted cod and a shellfish orzotto (like risotto but with orzo pasta). Wine is very expensive and the beer options surprisingly do not include a single American beer. The standard of cooking at Gaia exceeds anything we have had in Greece itself: a great find, thanks to a recommendation from our hotel across the road.

Fantastic find

I booked for myself and a friend for a Wednesday night at 7pm. I had Organic chicken and potatoes with a side of spinach, plus a sharing crudités for starters as well as a bottle of pinot noir. Food was cooked perfectly and was to much, maybe cut out the starters next time. Atmosphere was relaxed as it was a Wednesday night. From the social media posts it looks like a weekend is the honest spot in town. The staff are all friendly and helpful. Will be booking next time I visit NY.

Mediocre food, overpriced and poor service

We tried the restaurant as it was adjoining our hotel.it was terrible and overpriced. Two main courses, a bottle of wine, tap water and tip came to $240. The service was terrible given they are trying to market themselves as an upmarket restaurant. The wine was $80 (a $25 bottle at best) and the waiter spilled it on the table when pouring and it was dripping down our glasses. We had a salmon dish and lobster spaghetti which I spent time continually removing shell from as I ate it. Plenty of waiters but they clearly were not experienced in high level service. We asked for additional things like to see the menu again on a couple of occasions and nobody brought it to the table. We decided to finish with a cocktail at the bar and the useless bar tender when he did decide to serve us brought the wrong drink as he clearly wasn’t listening-probably because he couldn’t hear over the booming Greek dance music which is played. Save your money-avoid this place!
