Most charming roof top!

By Sam B |

Met some long list friends here for a drink on a breezy afternoon. Get here early, they fill up fast and don't take reservations. Place is stunning. Like walking into a different world. So well done, lush greenery, cute tables, incredibly sweet wait staff. Great drink menu with inventive options. Pizza with eggplant and feta was divine. Only thing missing from menu was cheese plate which would have gone well with nice and lean wine selection. I would come here again. This is a hidden gem in NYC!!

Green rooftop bar

By HanniHannover |

Laid back rooftop bar and garden with decent food, high quality food and good drinks. A relaxed summer place.

Afternoon cocktail before Hamilton

By rbarnes4 |

We stopped here because it was close to our hotel and we wanted a cocktail before our show. Unique selection of cocktails and a very lush rooftop bar!

Cold, overpriced and slow service

By Lila F |

If the weather is not amazing don't go, it's an outside venue and it gets really cold, plus they don't have blankets for everyone. The service is slow and unresponsive. On the plus side, the ambiance is nice and the food quite tasty yet overpriced.

Charming atmosphere - camp like seating arrangements.

By Hm0518 |

We were hopeful to have a wonderful Sunday brunch experience. IF you go, please make sure you are not seated at the 1st table on the right. It's where guests line up to enter the buffet area. You will be surrounded and not able to leave your table. You will have people at your back, over your shoulder and no sense of privacy. Also - we were a party of 5, without asking, the hostess sat two more people at our table - nothing wrong with others joining the picnic table; however, due to the iron table legs, if you are going to sit 4 on a bench ( and the 4 people are of larger size) please know that the two people on the ends will have to straddle the table leg - not so comfy for a relaxing brunch experience. Such a shame we couldn't enjoy the food - the place has so much charm.

Lovely evening setting

By sminion |

Great setting for a pizza and a drink while the sunsets. The staff were very friendly and the rooftop is very pretty, especially with all the lights - drinks are a little pricey, but you don't mind as you're paying for the setting. Would recommend a visit!

Bad experience

By Ariadna T |

My experience at Gallow Green was not very pleasant, very expensive for the quality, very noisy and the deal with the customer is not good. Bad experience ... a disappointment

Cool Place

By retrogirl |

There were 6 of us that ate here one night and we were not disappointed. The pizza was good and was thin crust ( my fave kind ). The wine was not too expensive for bottles either, but best of all was our great waiter: Jonathan Alexander! He was friendly, attentive, always smiling and wiling to take our pictures as we asked him a few times throughout the evening. The place is so unique in that it doesn't feel like it's on a rooftop and is amazing with it's gardens and gazebos everywhere. We don't have anything like this where we live, so it was a fun and different experience for us. Also, who doesn't love pizza and wine? You can't go wrong. Enjoy!

Horrible. Brunched inside a windowless container

By Magdalena S |

We went today to the rooftop brunch but where totally disappointed because the brunch was inside in a reduced windowless container that was dirty! !!! On top of that we had to wait for 15 for the waiter that didn't come until I stood up and called her. And food was nothing out of the ordinary. Really expensive for the experience you get. I asked for my money back before having brunch as soon as we saw the place, but was told that it was not possible to cancel on the same day. It's not worth the price

A summer beauty!

By amrisab |

I have been here in both winter and summer and much preferred the latter. We got there early enough after work to snatch a table and the place was already packed but not to the exhaustive point as many other rooftop bars. I absolutely adore the space and ambiance of Gallow Green. It is a stunning setting for drinks with friends. That being said, the specials are usually in the $18-20 range but what the hell, it's where we live. It's definitely worth checking out and the staff is pretty great!

Great Brunch spot

By missnr1 |

On our last day in NYC our friends took us to the lovely rooftop of the McKittrick hotel - Gallow Green. Even tough the weather wasnt excellent (foggy and windy), it was great to soent a couple of hours between plants, train tracks, mimosas, bellinis and a volonte food buffet. The complimentary mimosa was really good, as was the.m bellini we got afterwards. Food is what you expect from a buffet. You dont come here for the food but for the atmosphere although I would go back any time for those muffins! :-) A special mention to the great live band! They were top notch! I also strongly recommend "sleep no more", the play in the hotel!

Amazing Birthday Celebration

By Hema K |

I had reserved a pre fix dinner for my husbands birthday in May. Albeit the weather was not so great, the venue created a gorgeous ambiance for 10 of us. We had a private area and the service was spectacular. Our waitress was very attentive and made the experience even better. I booked our table with Rae at the venue via email. She was super responsive and help me set up a great pre fix menu for our event. On arrival she was there and ensured we had the best area and made sure we had all we needed. Thank you Rae for making the birthday so special and creating a beautiful time for us.

Chelsea's other side

By ARIK K |

The suburbs has Netflix and we in the city have Rooftops. Breathtaking outdoor views of a part of NY you have to be hip in order to know is more than just storage facilities. Series of rustically elegant and dimly lit rooms with plenty of cozy nooks to hide away with your group. Stunning presentation of seasonal dishes and late night pizza. Alchemically mixed alcohol. Scene is as chill as Chelsea.

Excellent Rooftop Restaurant

By MJL |

Compared to other rooftops, this is comparatively more laidback which serves to its credit being a really well thought out space of a disused railway vibe with overgrown greenery, also not to mention the great food and drinks that is also served here

Great live music

By Krpr |

Great band and music, authentic and so totally belonging to the place. Whether you eat or drink, the music is just that makes the place.

Absolutely overrated!

By Food_Lover |

Unfortunately, the restaurant is completely overrated. As soon as you enter, a "theater" is staged, as if you were entering the most desirable location in the city. However, the atmosphere, decor and food are anything but "top". The decor of the restaurant is rather outdated, a lot of odds and ends and didn't look nice to us. I was sitting on an old rickety wooden chair and I had the feeling that it was going to break at any moment. We ordered an appetizer. Unfortunately the main course came first and then the starter. The food was ok but not good value for money. The aperitif tasted like "kids punch". The service was friendly and quick. Nevertheless, we would not visit the restaurant again.

Rooftop Sunday Brunch

By Paul William A |

What a wonderful restaurant. It is as though someone bought an old farmstead and reassembled it on a rooftop in lower Manhattan. Food was delicious, live music was great. I read a review that stated drinks were included with the brunch ticket, but, that is not true. Regardless, it is a unique place my wife and I am looking forward to returning.

Great Drink place , restaurant not that interesting

By Class-invictus |

I like the terrace, very interesting location, beautiful atmosphere. And the lady of the elevator it's so passionate and nice. Food it's good, I had sword fish fish and French fries so delicious. Negative things : dirty & sticky toilet and portions are way too small in comparison to high prices

Lovely summer jazz al fresco vibe

By OliwaVasicek |

A NY summer institution from what I understand. Popped in for cocktails and beers on a sticky summer evening. Great vibe, lovely live music, very hipster with super relaxed service. Maybe has become a bit touristy than it used to be, but recommended nonetheless

Definitely visit this quirky bar

By CeeSJay |

Clever roof top bar...cozy lodge decor inside and great views. Get the fire pit table if you can. We only had drinks...the hot toddy was amazing! We hope to return for the show.

Perfect for Brunch on a Sunny Day

By MiamiMouse |

We ended up with a great sunny day in June. The atmosphere is quite inviting with the gardens on the rooftop. The adventure to get to the rooftop was quite fun as well. But, be prepared to get cozy. There was four in our party and we sat on a picnic table with four other strangers. However, it wasn't bad. I chalked it up to the NYC experience. I did expect a little more of a higher end Brunch than we got, but it was good. You do have to buy tickets online before you go. They ask for the name of the reservation before you enter the building. I would go back weather depending. It wouldn't have been the same experience with rainy or cool weather. I enjoyed my experience!

Gorgeous Rooftop Garden Setting near the Highline

By Kimberly A |

I came here with family to celebrate my birthday. The space was amazing with gorgeous lanterns and stringed lights complementing the greenery. The pizzas were excellent along with the gem Caesar salads and chocolate budino desserts. Great rum raisin ice cream

Rustic rooftop restaurant

By Skych8ser |

They have a fire pit outside with seating around it for the lucky few that snag it in time. Small bar with long lines during prime time. Indoor seating for the restaurant. We went prior to seeing a show at the McKintrick. Dinner was good, but not fantastic. Had the burger, charred octopus, and wild mushroom toast. Would love to come back for brunch.

Almost Perfect!

By TheMellybooProject |

My friend and I made dinner reservations for Independence Day at Gallow Green, after being highly recommended by a friend of mine. We arrived nearly an hour early, and the hostess was able to accommodate us. The atmosphere was buzzing! The decor is gorgeous and it truly feels like an escape from the hustle and bustle of the city below. The greenery is wonderful and the attention to detail is great. The service was wonderful - despite it being a busy evening, our waitress did take the time to chat with us as much as she could. The food was tasty, the portion sizes were a touch on the small side, but no big deal. The only mishap that occurred was that the wrong entree came out for me - so I had to wait nearly 15 minutes for a new entree to be made. Not the end of the world, and we weren't in a rush or starving so it was okay. I'm probably a bit more laid back than most would be too as I have many years of waitressing experience and realize that things sometimes happen. Would have been nice if it was taken off the bill (or if we'd been given a free dessert or appetizer for the mistake), but again, not the end of the world.

Amazing place

By jennarose270186 |

We came here for drinks only, it was incredible, unlike any bar I have been to before, the rooftop garden is magical I will definitely return x

Fabulous 'oasis' jazz brunch in the heatwave

By Promptbunny |

After walking the Highline in 90 deg in the shade, this was a welcome retreat for a lovely Saturday brunch. We had a cosy table for 2 in the shade, with a good view out over the rooftops and within earshot of the great jazz band. Mimosas came as part of the inclusive brunch price, but don't miss the amazing Bloody Mary's with various twists! You're invited to help yourself from the buffet divided into hot and cold stations and there was plenty of choice for meat and non-meat eaters alike. Fresh fruits, granola, bircher mueseli, cold cuts, smoked salmon, then eggs various ways, meat options and various pastries and breads. Coffee or tea was replenished frequently and the service was friendly and unobtrusive and with the lush vegetation and planting, it really did feel you were out of the city.

Fun Rooftop Bar

By mslamin |

Such a great place to meet friends for a drink, an appetizer, or a full-on meal. Lots of atmosphere--noisy--energizing --great place to hang out for drinks and food. Arugula and mushroom pizza was delicious...

Brunch overrated disappointing

By grandcrudon |

Let me start by saying I don’t write negative reviews often. I certainly don’t want to hurt someone’s business. I hope the owners read this and at least consider what I’m saying. Wait staff is young and not well trained. The food selection was pretty slim. Quality was just ok. Best item was the suckling pig. Everything else was really mediocre. Not a good brunch selection. My biggest complaints are about cleanliness and tables. The two top tables are made of wood and are absolutely filthy. Food and grease stained and that black stain is undoubtedly mold growing into the wood grain. Clean those damn tables and seal the wood. Also, two top tables are set so close together they’re nearly impossible to sit at. Diners at adjacent tables bump elbows. People got up and moved they were so uncomfortable. Lastly, sweep and wash the floor. Plants die and leaves and dirt are not appetizing. Clean this place up. My impression is the ownership is resting on their laurels and trying to make margin by skimping. Not worth $100 per couple... PS... entertainment was terrific

I loved this place.

By Dale-icious |

Gallow Green was our favourite restaurant of our whole trip. This incredibly cool, trendy, shabby-chic rooftop restaurant offers diners brunch every Sunday. For one price you can eat as much high quality food as you like - I was full to bursting by the time we left, and that takes some doing. The salmon and hog roast were mouthwatering. Gallow Green offers something for everybody, whether vegetarian or meat-eater. Everyone is catered for. This venue is the definition of trendy, without being pretentious, yet still feeling warm and welcoming. Everything from the furnishings to the well rehearsed live band just feels relaxed and natural without overthinking. If ever I was a resident of New York, I'd make Gallow Green my 'local' - the place I regularly visit with my friends and family to eat, drink, chat, laugh and connect. I loved this place.

Magnificent view and atmosphere, long waiting lines, but friendly staff and lovely food

By Eva D |

- Location: unique on top of the McKittrick hotel - magnificent views, pretty decoration and flowers - Unique atmosphere - fairytale like - Service: friendly, but very long waiting lines - Food and drinks: non alcoholic beverages were overpriced - fries, salad, tartare and Nutella Calzone were great

Ever green!

By Luke M |

Gallow Green has got hip NYC rooftop style going on! Lush greenery and, on weekends, live tunes await. For brunch, there is a great outdoor food service selection. The well stocked bar (and yes they serve Frose - frozoen rose) is supported by excellent staff guidance on cocktails to suit your disposition. Gallow Green is a fun NYC hotspot to enjoy catching up with friends.

Great Atmosphere

By PetervanA83 |

To start the #SleepNoMore night Gallow Green is a great spot! The atmosphere is great, supported by their garden features and the lay-out of the place. By creating little (cabin) areas the restaurant feels secluded while you are aware that it is popular and well-visited. The service level is up to par and the food and drinks are good.

Good food and location

By ricalx11 |

I visited for dinner. The menu is limited mainly to burghers however the burghers we had were very tasty with good chips. We had two ales for drinks and lime pie as dessert. It is not a cheap place, but it has a beautiful top garden.

We enjoyed fantastic dinner at a wonderful restaurant

By Pippa G |

A wonderful restaurant. The designers did a fantastic job. The food was good and the prices absolutely ok. The staff was friendly and the service great. It all fits together - venue, food and music. And an absolut bonus: the view.

What a fantastic night out in NYC!

By Susan B |

We had a party of 10 last night at the restaurant. An amazing experience and great food. Sitting outside on the rooftop was lovely. The service was phenomenal! A huge shout out to Daryl who was in charge of our group. He was wonderful!

Great brunch - average service

By Nadia L |

We had a brunch on a Sunday. It's bit pricey but really worth it. Great atmosphere, nice food (the cold buffet is better than the hot buffet). I found the waitress quite unpleasant but the atmosphere made up for this.

Great time for a rooftop brunch

By RJSullivan3396 |

Buffet brunch had a nice, clean, fresh spread. Omelette station, fried chicken, shrimp cocktail, and nice salads. The decor is very cute, wait staff very friendly and quick with a drink. Worth the trip

Amazing looking place

By Toril L |

This restaurant looks absolutely amazing, super cozy with lots of lights and greens. The service was very slow even though there weren't too many peoples there. It took about 40 min for them to bring the first dish. We wanted to eat together but it took about 20 more minutes for the other 2 in our company to get their food. Still no drinks.. so we told them we hadn't gotten our drinks and it seemed like they had misplaced the order so by the time we finished eating we got our drinks. Let's hope this is just a one time thing and they had a bad day or something because the food was good and the venue spectacular!

Hostess with the least

By Maeve010 |

Average food, rude host, she barely acknowledged us and was unhelpful in general. they mislaid my credit card which made us late for The theatre show we were attending.

Amazing Rooftop Bar

By Cara C |

Right near the High Line in The McKittrick Hotel, this bar is amazing! The whole experience is otherworldly. Great place to take a date. The entire bar fills up quickly, but there's an open seating area on one side. Keep an eye out for anyone leaving to head to Sleep No More and snag their table!

One time thing

By SB |

If you come here for the views, you are coming to the wrong place. From the roof-top you can't see much. The only "cool" view was their gardens which added a beauty to the place. The service (specifically the waiter my friend and I received) was bad. As we were ordering our waiter was "checking out" a girl coming in with her girlfriends. It was very obvious by his looks at her and it made us uncomfortable. It also showed an unprofessional quality of service. On the bright side, the pony tailed waitress with the brownish hair was able to help us when we needed. This place is mostly for those in their 20s as that is the audience you will find here. The food was good, but overpriced.

Terrific rooftop

By Kevin C |

Fun menu, friendly service (coped a questionable tasting drink, no questions). Food decent, but the venue is terrific. Worth a detour.

Favorite hidden nyc spot

By Elli D |

One of my favorite rooftops in nyc. What it lacks in location and views is made up with great food, atmosphere, decor and cocktails. They sometimes have live music experiences usually acoustic and calm. Great place for Sunday morning brunch

Excellent food!

By Didi_P65 |

Great ambience at this rooftop bar/restaurant. Expensive, but you are definitely paying for the location and ambience. I had the salmon salad which was excellent! The salmon was cooked perfectly and everything was fresh and beautiful. In fact, I am sure I've never had a better prepared piece of fish in my life, and I am very picky about the way fish is prepared. (I don't usually order salmon in a restaurant because it is often tragically overcooked) I am taking a star off because the service was just okay, took awhile to get drinks, and there was a long time between visits from our server.

Be ready to get hung by cheap food at offensive prices

By Paul B |

Gallows Green is aptly named. Either you are going to be hung out to dry on the prices or they think you are so green that you will pay a 600% mark up on wine. The ambience of the place is lovely and maybe for a beer you would be happy to soak up the rooftop jazz on some warm evening. Eating a meal here is another matter, first the wine fun zone is rated by Vivino as a $13 bottle, they charge $52 plus tax of course. However the piece de resistance is the lobster roll at $28 it looks more like a $6 dollar Luke’s lobster roll with a $2 bag of chips. The manager is so far up his pretentious backside he wouldn’t know if the Sun was shining or pouring with rain. I didn’t rate this a single star just due to ambience and atmosphere, however if I want to legitimately robbed I will come to Gallow green and happily empty my pockets. So much potential marred by a flagrant greed.

Beautiful

By L H |

Gorgeous roof top space with very cool decor serving decent, not outstanding food. Good champagne by the glass is overpriced for the small portions. Gem salad is dry with too little dressing/too much topping. The swordfish kebabs are about 2" squares, one was perfectly done/delicious, the other dry and a bit tough. Strawberry/rhubarb parfait was a bit bland.

Beautiful setting

By Olivia K |

Very good service, slightly pricey (especially for cocktails) but a beautiful place with the wow factor, food was very good, will return!

Roof top bar with beautiful gardens

By u2girl612 |

Transport yourself to a beautiful roof top garden for drinks or brunch or a meal later in the night. The staff is terrific and this draws a fun and vibrant crowd.

Lovely quiet spot, but ouch prices!!

By michaeljf89 |

Visited here for a quick drink before seeing more in the area. Have to say the environment is nice, very chilled out, lovely green surrounding the tables. When we left there was a queue to get in, so they must be doing something right! However the cost of the cocktails in my opinion weren’t warranted. For the same price in Midtown we were getting better tasting cocktails on rooftops bars overlooking the ESB. If you’re happy to spend that price then go for it, otherwise there are some other places nearby that are more reasonably priced. 3/5

Fun Cocktails and Atmosphere

By Adriana M |

Went for a late night dinner. It was a beautiful summer evening so sitting outside amongst all the foliage and flowers made for a dreamy dinner. The cocktails are pricey but this I expected in NYC and they were fun and unique drinks so we didn't mind terribly. We had calamari and fish and chips and both were very good.

Brunch

By Lynne L |

Cool old. Holding and the rooftop is a bit of an oasis in the city. We thoroughly enjoyed the ambience, staff was great and brunch was delicious We will be back and definitely recommend a visit

Relaxing Garden Brunch

By William A |

On Sunday 8/18/2019 I had a solo reservation for brunch at the well-known and picturesque Gallow Green atop the McKittrick Hotel on West 27th Street. Brunch is a favorite activity for weekends and Gallow Green gets a lot of recommendations. The atmosphere is a beautiful relaxing garden hideaway with pleasant live music. Brunch is served as a buffet, and offers an omelette and waffle station. A bar area allows you to select wines and beers. And of course there is a cocktail menu. Although the buffet spread is beautifully presented - the quality is average. The food is good but it will not “Wow” you. Service is friendly. Overall a very enjoyable experience. Lovely setting for a casual brunch with someone special or close friends. The atmosphere and setting is what truly makes it worth a visit.

Magical spot in the middle of a very busy city

By Nez D |

We had to wait on a short line to take an old time elevator. You also have to walk a flight of stairs. When you reach the rooftop, it is like walking into a fairy garden. I wish we had gone in the evening so we could have seen the place lit up. The place was so packed that we had to squeeze the four of us into a tight spot. Like most bars, to get a drink you have to force your way to the front. The $9 beers were reasonable but the mixed drinks were overpriced, but I guess you are paying for the ambiance. The staff is well dressed and friendly. We didn’t eat so I can’t comment on the food but the Gallow Green rooftop is definitely a worthwhile stop for a couple drinks.

Good food and drinks, customer service needs attention

By Julie |

Loved the food, drinks and beautiful place! The customer service was questionable. Our waiter came back multiple times to attempt to take the plates away. I thought we were being rushed and didn't think much of it since it was lovely there. Then, as I was trying to finish my plate of food, the waiter came back again, to give my cousin the dessert menu. 5 minutes later, the waiter was back, asking if we're ordering dessert! I tried to nicely say, I'm attempting to finish dinner still if we can have 5 more minutes.

Charming rooftop dining but....

By MSLovell |

The doormen at the street check IDs- so be sure you're over 21 (this was Saturday @ 6pm). After admittance you take elevator w elevator guy to the restaurant floor - walk through dark maze like area with staff advising where to go next - then up a flight of stairs to the top. Lovely funky spot - canopy "ceiling " w flowers and greenery on a nice evening. Tables are mostly picnic type. Service is very good. Our dinner for 3 was $150 before tip (included appetizer calamari, 1 drink each and 3 entrees). So you can decide if it's in the ballpark for trendy NYC spot. The specialty drinks were just ok and over iced and eat undersized for the price. Portion sizes of meal were modest but not paltry - the cauliflower pizza was large enough for 2 to share and was delish). Deserts were nondescript. One caution- the rooftop restrooms carried the rustic theme entirely too far... for the location and venue we didn't think it was too much to expect them to be reasonably clean --- and we were there before the real crowd arrived for the evening ). Was glad we went - but not likely to return.

Unique and a gorgeous Oasis in the city

By AliceeeBradley |

My friend had her wedding breakfast here and it was absolutely fab! The pizza is DEVINE, really great atmosphere and it's decor is fab! Even on a cold night you can warm yourself by the fire. I would really recommend this place!

Beautiful Green Rooftop in Chelsea

By Carol A |

I went to Gallow Green with my family on my birthday weekend and found it lovely. The experience of getting in is pretty cool in itself. Visitors line up outside, you are then escorted into a dark old-school elevator. After you make it out of the elevator you walk up a short flight of stairs into a beautiful garden on the roof! The live music and ambiance was wonderful. The buffet was OK, not amazing (best thing on the menu is the salmon). FYI drinks are charged separately. Overall, great to visit for the ambiance, not the best if you care about the quality of food most.

Wonderfull Service

By shahar d |

After "sleep no more", We climbed mckittrick hotel's rooftop to enjoy a drink and watch the city. Greate Atmosphere and location, good air under the sky. I forgot my coat there, and recieved a greate assistant from them, sending it by mail and covering the price. Thank you :)

Such a fun and cool place to have a drink, and eat

By David H |

We just stopped for a drink, but the food, especially the brunch looked absolutely amazing, want to go back for this.

Shocker - terrible food

By RustyUrsa |

I ordered a Tuna Nicoise Salad. It came out pretty quickly which was good. The salad consisted of a bowl of roquette lettuce with literally one baby potato, half a boiled egg and a couple of cherry tomatoes - no tuna. After some fuss it went back to the kitchen. The same salad came back a while later with a very small amount of tuna on top of the same same salad. For $30 it was a disgrace. We had booked the show and went there for connivence but left hungry. With so many good restaurants in the area - avoid this one at all costs. They do a song and dance to try and create a feeling of excitement when you arrive. This is just annoying but whatever - they should save that and invest in their food and some chefs. Waste of a good fit out.

Rustic Rooftop Restaurant--Garden Oasis

By suzannegb542 |

Charming, rustic rooftop restaurant/bar. Long line at bar--maybe need more bartenders. But, it was worth the wait. I've heard they demo the whole thing in the winter to install a winter lodge in its place. Can't wait!

Decent, not perfect

By serioustiger |

Had the fast-becoming-famous rooftop brunch - actually not perfect, some items a little cold as if the buffet had been stood for 30 minutes before they let us in. Good range of eats though, great live jazz, and very friendly - long communal tables so if you are visiting alone, you’re going to get chatting. Overall a thoroughly pleasant way to spend a lunchtime.

For the Life Of Me I don't see the draw.

By TrulyWorldTraveler |

We just went on 5-22-19 and luckily had a reservation. Frankly, I don't see the draw. The drinks were overpriced. The garden was nothing spectacular except it was near a number of celebrity apartments. The service was horrible. We ordered drinks and waited 20 minutes for them to be delivered. The food is average bar food. The bus boy who was very attentive and the general manager was very cordial when our credit card did not go through because of their processing software error. He also graciously gave us a celebratory drink for my grand daughters graduation. Unless you want to tell someone that you went here, it really wasn't worth the time.

Win! - with small reluctance....

By Nytodubai |

Ok - Food is excellent, ambiance is fun fun fun. Its an open air rooftop deck. Service very friendly, hostess very helpful. Pricey for sure. Drinks will def. set you back a bit. Most of the seating is at communal tables - You have been warned!!

The place is overrated

By Experience668563 |

I went with my husband for dinner, because it was listed as one of the best rooftops, but we were very disappointed with the regular food and tasteless drinks. we also ordered a dessert and the spoons were disgustingly dirty, also the service and staff was not as good as i expected.

Overpriced, But Cool Vibe

By Alexis |

For three drinks it was over $50, which is pretty pricey for a place that doesn't allow you to sit down if you're not eating. The only options were to sit out in the snow by the fire, or a tiny cramped room that had one table and five bar stools. The specialty drinks were decent. It had a cool vibe, but I was expecting more from it always appearing on top places to visit in New York lists. There was a bar around the block that had a very similar vibe that was half the price. Also, the hours are incorrectly listed on google, so we got there before it opened.

Ok, but watch the weather

By Cate-Pete |

Make sure you arrive early. The elevator is tiny, so the queue becomes long. Interesting decor, with old railway carriages. It's under cover, but only just in places. We got a bit of rain coming in on us, and it became very cold and windy. They provide nice thick blankets, and we needed them. Food was OK, but servings were small. Very crowded, but that is typical in New York. Service was good, which is quite an achievement considering how crammed in we were. Would be OK in good weather, but there are better places to eat in NYC.

Super cute Chelsea rooftop

By Mandy C |

My boyfriend and I had an awesome time at Gallow Green. Calvin was our server, he was great and offered lots of information about drinks and dinner. The location is perfect and atmosphere is very cute. Would definitely recommend.

Didn't meet my expectations

By Elisa K |

The place has a western vibe which makes it very interesting, you also have to go through an oddisey to get there which creates more expectations. But the main issue is food, very little choices and nothing remarkable, they don't seem to have a specialty, they just wander in different styles of food.

Last breakfast in nyc

By lieselwalton |

With half a day to kill before going to the airport to return home we settled on brunch at Gallow Green. Fantastic. Hidden gem on a rooftop decorated with all the charm of spring and fresh flowers. We ate beautiful food and listened to a lovely band for a few hours. Perfect end to our trip.

Beautiful views, cool atmosphere, great food

By lindsey c |

Anything at the McKittrick Hotel is usually quite an experience, and Gallow Green did not disappoint. Even though it was a little cold on the night i went for dinner, I still really enjoyed it. The food is a bit on the pricey side, but so are a lot of other great NY restaurants. I just love the scenery, all the flowers and the cool train, the lights and banners, its just a really great atmosphere. The staff is also super friendly. Everyone i came in contact with there was so nice and helpful. I would love to go back again when it gets a little warmer!

Loved It!

By KLH21 |

Went for some pre-dinner drinks and snacks. What a great location, the rooftop is beautiful, really feels like a secret garden. Service was super friendly and professional. Got an amazing rose cider - split the steak skewer and it was so delicious, also got their hand-cut fries and they were soooooo good, You gotta check this place out!

Fun place to spend an evening

By Carrie F 🇨🇦 |

Visited recently for dinner. Menu is not very big, but the atmosphere makes up for it! Both attendees ordered pizza and it was great, thin crust. Very creative drink selection. As we were there in June, this spot was a rooftop garden with lots of plants, trees, flowers and lights. A nice touch is the fire pit area for cooler nights. In the winter months the place is transformed into a winter lodge. Recommend making reservations as we were there on a Wed and it was full! Location is great: about a 15 min walk from NY Penn station and directly beside the Chelsea Highline

Dinner before the show

By Pete L |

A great place to dine. Pre show worked for us prior to Sleep No More. Great, attentive service and the menu had enough to keep us interested at that time of the day. The rooftop setting and the warm summer evening made this place a winner at this time of year although I’m not sure how it works in the winter? I’d go back for sure.

Not okay

By karen m |

I was really looking forward to spending time here. When we arrived at 5:30 for our reservation, a man was sitting in the lobby, dozing, not really sure what he was saying but, he did say, kitchen error, closed…come back in 20 minutes. What???? This experience felt off, and really bothering. Hoping I feel like trying again and it turns out better. I mean anything would be. Ridiculous!

Boozy Brunch

By garyk3165 |

Had brunch yesterday with my wife and 2 teenage kids and we all loved it. Can't believe I read complaints about food and service because both were exceptional. Great live music as well.

Don’t waste your money

By Wanderer552593 |

My husband and I went to Gallow Green last night, we were celebrating a special occasion with it being his 40th birthday. We went to see the Sleep No More play (highly recommended!) at the McKittrick Hotel and decided to reserve a table at Gallow Green after the show, which was an option when buying our tickets. The food and the service were awful, I had to complain about my food twice and eventually left without even eating anything in the end. As a previous reviewer mentioned, it is over priced, badly cooked and of poor quality. The manager was rude and arrogant, he clearly didn’t know much about customer service and made out that I was the problem. He did not even apologise. It is such a shame that the Sleep No More show is affiliated with this restaurant, we felt exhilarated after the show and this dinner experience really tainted the night. After all this the experience ended by us getting shouted at by a rude security guy for trying to go down to collect our stuff from the bag check counter. The setting is lovely, if you must then just go for a pricey cocktail. But there are so many great restaurants in New York, there’s no need to waste your money here.

Amazing atmosphere, great food, ok drinks

By Michael Y |

Went here for a special birthday dinner. Let me start by saying the atmosphere was incredible. My girlfriend kept referring to the place being like a fairytale. But it was cold this day and a large group had taken up all the table heaters, leaving the rest of the restaurant to be cold. Additionally, I tried to order some hot tea and was told they stop serving tea after brunch. All they had were cold drinks. I wasn't wild about this. Also, the cocktails were good, but the "sleep no more", although pretty looking, seemed to be like a lavender soda that cost $17. Way too expensive in my opinion. The food was however, appropriately priced and delicious. I'd go back for the food and atmosphere, I could do without the $17 drinks.

Five for the food and atmosphere minus for the service

By uri117 |

Had a saturday brunch. We ordered three weeks in advance and no shadowed place was availble. After 30 minutes waiting we asked to set us in a place we found. Food was very good and ambiance and love music was great! Service did not exist i had to change my plates and silver and we had to ask 5 times for drinks. Waited 20 minutes between asking for check and getting change. Great food and ambience bad seevice!

Wonderful rooftop in NYC

By WangYiWen |

Too rushed

By Amanda S |

Glad we booked on line as a queue down the road indicating to me that this was a popular restaurant, we were taken by lift and the one flight of stairs, on first impression you wouldn’t know you were walking into a roof top restaurant it’s very unique and chic, As with everything in USA the wine and beer is expensive when you consider our exchange rate $50 for the cheapest bottle of wine and $10 for a pint of beer I explained to the waitress that my husband was 10 mins away so I would order, the food came out in less than 5 mins (minus the oysters which never arrived ) so by the time my husband arrived the food was Luke warm, we arrived at 6 and left at 6.45 with a bill of €190 including €20 tip and taxes So all in all I’d say unless it’s a big group of you and you can keep your table flowing slow don’t go, food is bog standard it’s really just a bit of a novelty

Unique brunch in the winter lodge

By rcw923 |

My sister and I had brunch here the morning after we attended Sleep No More. It was a fun way to spend more time “in that world,” discuss our experiences from the night before, and of course have a delicious meal in a rooftop lodge that looks like it came from another time. The service was impeccable and the meal was great! I’d love to go back in the summer but we had a great experience at the winter lodge.

Nice hidden spot

By LAFAMILLEG11231 |

Simple dishes, small cabin space could work on the charm. Limited menu but ok and reasonably priced items to share. Scotch egg was way over cooked and pork pie in pastry should not be served cold.

Unique space

By CrystalN320 |

Gallow Green is a unique little slice of green space in the middle of the concrete jungle. It is a nice little place to stop by for a drink on a hot summer day

All style no substance

By trav226 |

This is a pretty rooftop space that's well decorated. That's about all I can say that's positive. The negatives are many: 1. bland food 2. overpriced food ($20 for a tasteless margarita pizza) 3. No view. If you are expecting to see anything from your table, you'll be disappointed. Even if you walk to the edge you basically see the sides of buildings, no water, no skyline. 4. Inattentive service (water glass was refilled just once) 5. Seriously uncomfy communal seats. At these prices, I expect to not be seated at what is basically a picnic table. There's a table with a long bench on either side (no back support), and we were squeezed in on the end such that we literally had to straddle a metal bar that connected the table to the bench. And you're shoulder to shoulder with total strangers. There are outdoor eating spaces in NYC that are just as pretty with far better food and more comfy seating. I'd suggest getting a drink here and moving on.

Terrible Customer Service - Terrible Communication - Ghana Elshabazz

By Drew E |

I tried booking a corporate lunch at the rooftop and had an awful experience with Ghana Elshabazz, who was completely incompetent. She kept trying to sell me on a 2K buyout, when I told her no about 4 or 5 times. We then went back and forth about a different option without the buyout. She sent a menu with zero flexibility but we booked anyway, and she said she'd send me a contract. Waited, and waited but didn't receive an email. I then called her, she called back and had no clue who I was, even though we had spoken 4 or 5 times. She took about 10 minutes to find our email chain, and then said THEY DIDNT DO LUNCH. And could only do 5:30 PM, even though we had been talking about lunch the entire time. I don't think I've ever dealt with anyone with as little common sense. I now need to find a place for 20 people within 7 days. Awful experience.

Lightning Fast and Delicious

By AquinnahMV |

My husband and I wanted a quick meal before seeing Sleep No More in the adjacent McKittrick Hotel, but we had only one hour before showtime. We were literally seated, served and paid up at Gallow Green's rooftop garden within 30 minutes. Not sure how they prepare the food so fast and also make it delicious, but they do. We had the burrata, caesar salad and margherita pizza, as well as a beer and champagne cocktail. This place has it down pat.

Challenging

By Cassie H |

We went here after seeing Sleep No More. It was raining and the roof did little to keep it out. It was surprisingly packed for the weather. Getting service was hard. We had one drink and left

Just ok

By v1234v |

While the cheese platter and toast n mushroom were good, the pizza and pasta were terrible. They wouldn't customize! That was a surprise. Customer service was pathetic too. Definitely not going again.

Great ambiance but food was disappointing

By EG509 |

The rooftop restaurant is a great little gem, decorated beautifully and lush with plants and foliage but if you are expecting to get your $63 for brunch, think again. They offer 2 small food stations, one hot and one cold. The hot consisted of fried chicken (very good),pork roast (bland and flavorless), bacon (too salty), scrambled eggs (bland), fingerling potatoes (too salty) and grilled asparagus (perfect). The cold buffet station had fresh berries, granola, yogurt, salad and salmon. Each station had a bread basket of muffins and pastries. For $63 I expected better quality and more options. The one weak mimosa that is included tasted funny and still didn't help justify the cost. The band was good. The staff were all friendly and helpful and we didn't feel pressured to leave at the end of the 2 hour seating. The bartenders were extremely friendly and made excellent cocktails. For $17, they should be excellent. It was a nice day and a good experience overall but if you are going for the food, be prepared and lower your expectations. If you are a vegetarian or vegan, go elsewhere.

Nice place

By L H |

Pretty rooftop restaurant at the McKittrick Hotel (where they have different types of performances) with decent food and a good champagne (not by the glass, but they have half bottles). Nice staff.

Super cute roof top

By Vengel |

Really crowded but great vibe , so surprising to be on a rooftop in the city with so much charm and warmth .Drinks are delicious , didn't eat here but I would try it next time. The ride up is quite mysterious and smoldering , really special.

Fun. Fresh. Friendly

By zdehaldevang |

One of the best rooftop bars I have ever been to. Good cocktails - even though there is always a wait. Pizza is fab and quick as well! Perfect in the summer!

Sweet, unique spot.

By Penilikins |

I prepaid for 2 adults for all you can eat brunch Buffet online for the Gallow Green rooftop experience. It was very easy to book and the staff were really helpful with directing me to the right place to book. The rooftop is beautiful and very pretty, such a great spot to enjoy brunch with small or large group. The food was lovely and well stocked, a variety of hot and cold. A free mimosa which was lovely and unlimited coffee and juice. The only downside was my husband and I were seated every close to other parties of two on either side. It was a bit too cosy. Great experience when visiting Chelsea.

Spectacular setting

By travellerfromatown |

wow, what a spectacular setting on a beautiful summer day! We enjoyed a leisurely brunch atop the mckittirck hotel. So many plants and interesting decor in this unusual setting. The highlight of the brunch was the porchetta. So tender, so tasty. I had to go back for seconds. The heirloom tomato salad was summer-ripe and delicious. The fried chicken was a surprise in a good way, crispy and meaty. eggs were nothing special. The bacon was great as was the bread. The asparagus and roasted veggies were also very good. The only disappointment was the dessert area. Some cut up fruit and waffles that had sat there awhile. Like any buffet, the value is dependent on how much you could eat, but the setting and quality of the food go a long way toward giving this a high value.

Overpriced Nothing Special

By Arcady12 |

Pretty much regular rooftop like hundreds in NYC. Average service, average food and drinks. Overpriced. 1 time maybe...

A special mention - even though we didn't book here

By Max_scot1976 |

What a wonderful venue with superb staff. We checked this place out for a wedding party and it wasn't quite what we were looking for but the marketing team and the staff there were all really great. It's a superb location and I will certainly be going back for cocktails and brunch - wonderful views, unique space....what a great little find in NYC.

Not What Expected

By hickster2014 |

This was disappointing as online it looks to be so much nicer than it is. I feel like it’s a bit deceiving. We ate in a very dark corner, no indication that we were on a rooftop. The recent menu change a vast improvement though, food was good. It’s getting a lot more press than it deserves. Won’t be back.

Sunday Funday Brunch

By Angie's Travel Adventures |

The Sunday brunch experience here is delightful even on a dreary rainy day because the rooftop is covered. So many options at the buffet. The drinks are delicious (so many types of bloody marys) and the scenery is fantastic for pics with friends after brunch.

Unique and Delicious

By Florida |

Delicious food, friendly service, and wonderful outdoor atmosphere! Such a unique place - the history of the building is incredible and you feel like you are in an enchanted forest while eating. Good for a date or big group. Portions were big too! A+ overall.

Amazingly Delicious

By Dana S |

Such a cute and quaint brunch place. Hella expensive but he food is delicious. The greens were great, the eggs and sausage spot on. And hey had fried chicken. Nuff said. You have to pay in advance - that garage covers all you can eat hot and cold buffet and one glass of mimosa.

Fun spot

By Rah_Rah_HockeySticks |

This is a fun and quirky rooftop venue, starting with the old school lift trundling up and down the four floors. Drinks are rather overpriced, and the bartenders struggle to make the cocktails quickly, so the queue for the bar gets quite long. Frustrating if you only want a glass of bubbles. However, the music and atmosphere is great - nice to have something a little more bohemian in this part of town.

Sunday Brunch

By Duddly |

Rooftop brunch with live music and a buffet with a good selection of food. The Salman was a little cold but everything else was on point. The waffle and omelet station was my wife's favorite. I also enjoyed the waffles and fried chicken. Emma our server was terrific, very attentive, friendly and enjoyed conversing. The décor on the roof is something you would see out of a New York movie. Reservations were made two days prior with no issues. Cost 50 per person and includes gratuity which seems reasonable.

Feeling the Imminent SNM Closure?

By Caitlin S |

I’d been so looking forward to going here for a very long time, in conjunction with a visit to Sleep No More. When SNM extended their run after announcing their closure, I knew that it was now or never. As it turns out, it really WASN’T now or never because that closure has been extended a half dozen times now. However, I’m blaming our poor experience on what we thought was the imminent closure of SNM. That is the only way I could make sense of the menu having so very few items on it compared to what a normal functioning restaurant would have or even what their menu showed online. I think there was one fish entree, a burger and a chicken sandwich on the dinner menu? I don’t recall exactly but it was underwhelming. The staff had the ennui of people who knew their workdays there were numbered, and while the food was decent enough for very uninspired offerings, it was just overall a “meh” experience. The French fries were very good though.

A real roof top

By ArmelJoly |

Five years in NYC and I must admit that Gallow Green combine an amazing roof top with a very nice food. Even better for a roof top, the staff is amazing. The idea to have communal table is really interesting to speak with your neighbors. We ordered charcuteries and cheese plate, quality is there. The only thing is the quantity of cheese regarding the quantity of charcuterie isn’t similar.

Disappointing

By LYNDA H |

We went from 2-4pm on a Sunday. It.s not especially pretty and the view is very mediocre. The variety of food was ok but limited and nothing spectacular. The salmon was good but don’t count on seconds as once it’s gone, that’s it. It was very noisy and the live band was way too loud so conversation is limited to their breaks. Service was not very good except for the busboy who diligently filled our water glasses. Once you caught the eye of the waitress, you could order drinks and get coffee. I did have a lovely cocktail called’Sleep No More’ but these are expensive even by NYC standards. I would not recommend this place. There is much better value for your money and better food elsewhere.

Pittoresque rooftop with good choice of food and drinks.

By Eugenio B |

We went at Gallow Green for drinks with coworkers and had a great time. The rooftop is cozy and relaxing. Pizza was very good. Will surely go back.

Brunch

By Melodi R |

We went in search of just lunch but stumbled upon Sunday brunch buffet. The food selection was great. Well seasoned, variety and great live music. Wait staff could definitely be more attentive about filling waters ect but overall I can definitely see the appeal of this. The hotel also has a very interesting back story.

Loved this quirky restaurant - a fun experience.

By Liz D |

From the moment you arrive there's a great sense of theatre. It's a beautiful space - try & get a table with a view; you're on a roof top but it's suitable for all weathers & there's a little balcony area which you should check out if you happen to be seated away from the view. Quirky, fun and good food.

Welcoming and refreshing 💚

By Elise Durand |

Beautiful spot in the heart of nyc, healthy food presented as a buffet and a cocktail bar as well (if its your first time there like us ask a waiter to explain it all in detail first), the service is on point and there is an overall good vibe to it. Also the Basquiat exposition is 5mins away if you plan on visit that as well. The food in itself is not breathtaking but the vegetation is truly beautiful and breaks from the typical restaurant in nyc especially in some hot days in summer the placement makes all the difference.

Awesome weekend brunch buffet

By Liam D |

We bought tickets for 50$ per person for the brunch the weekend before for a 1:30 reservation. The place is beautiful, pretty much a garden on a rooftop, and a live band playing. The buffet had probably four different types of salads, omelet & waffle station, shrimp cocktail, an entire salmon, an entire suckling pig, fried chicken and french toast. All of it was really good. Also I have to mention. One of the people in our party chipped part of her toe nail off and it started bleeding a lot more blood than you would expect. Luckily another person in our party was a nurse. The manager gave us gauze, tape, bandages and even gave us some extra before we left so we could clean it again later. He also sent us a bottle of champagne and she got a mimosa. Very attentive and caring staff.

A cosy garden in the city

By Marion L |

Such a wonderful place, by winter or summer, great atmosphere, decoration at the top, great cocktails, I just love this place!

Fun, relaxing, summery place for dinner.

By mamacoast |

The restaurant is open-air and attractively decorated with a loose railroad theme. Lots of greenery and lovely breezes because you're on the rooftop! Views over the city from a few tables along the edge of the restaurant, while seating in the center of the restaurant offers good people-watching and nice greenery. Food is expensive for what it is, but the restaurant is more of a fun destination than a culinary masterpiece. A nice ending to a day of sight-seeing -- but don't bother with the "Sleep No More" performances downstairs, it's not worth it!

Rude hostess and inaccurate online information

By Maryam I |

I had high hopes for this place but instead we had a terrible experience. We went there for brunch. I checked the menu the night before and there was no indication of a fixed menu. The staff at the street level were nice but the hostess was rude and snobby. She told us the menu is $60 per person fixed and when I told her there was nothing about it online she was like I don't know. She couldn't care less. The place was empty and there wasn't any one waiting after us so she wasn't in a rush, but she told us: "so what is it? drinks or down" while pointing fingers to bar and elevator. She just wanted us out of there. Hostesses are the front face of restaurants when they aren't welcoming and don't care, what do you expect from the rest? Also the bar area has no sitting or views.

Great rooftop bar and music inside

By USCKaboom |

My first town coming here despite living near by. The roof was packed but we were able to find a table outside. Great when there's nice weather out. Recommend spending some time inside on Friday and Saturday as the band is awesome

$56 for diner food

By Beth160 |

I have had drinks on this rooftop restaurant before so my friend and I wanted to try to brunch. Wow, its really expensive ($56) so we figured it would be absolutely divine, gourmet offerings with super-attentive service. We were seated and no one brought any drink. We found our way to the brunch - barely warm steam-tray scrambled eggs that brought to mind a school cafeteria and were just as tasty, fried chicken, grilled asparagus, bacon and breads. My friend and I looked at each other: "$56 for THIS?" We could have gotten this at the corner diner. We were finally unceremoniously brought our mimosa, no coffee offered. After eating my plate of food I noticed some people had salad and fruit. Where did that come from?? Well, turns out there is another cold buffet at the other end of the restaurant. Neither the hostess nor the waiter bothered to tell us this. This buffet consisted of arugula with parmesan but no dressing, sliced tomatoes (definitely not local, they were tasteless), caesar salad, smoked salmon ends, and berries. Again, nice to know you can eat all you want, but this is food you could have gotten at the diner. No preparation or care was evident in anything. I've actually never paid so much for such ordinary food. And service? What service!

Gracious and Accomodating

By Shelley C |

My husband and I and a friend visited the Gallow Green on Thursday night. When we arrived I found out that there are stairs to the rooftop restaurant which is not ideal for our friend who is wheelchair-bound. The staff and management went above and beyond to accommodate us. They opened the street-side eating area just for us. The food was excellent especially the orange pannacotta. I can not say enough good things about Victoria the manager who made things happen and our server was excellent as well. We most appreciate all the effort and care that went into our evening.

Not worth it

By Maria B |

Definitely would not go back. Very small portions and such a limited menu. I ordered an aperol spritz and it came in what looked like half the size of any other restaurant's wine glass. They had no red chili flakes, no bread, and they ran out of coffee! Felt rushed to leave. Not worth the effort nor the money.

Nice spot to have drinks with friends. Nice view on NYC. There are also some shows organized. We haven’t been to the restaurant but heard it was nice.

50 degrees and the food the same temp!!

By Thomas Wojcik |

Ok, we booked this assuming if you were going to a brunch on a rooftop if they would have the sliding enclosures most of them do? Well this place didn’t should have left! the food was under lights but was as cold as the outside temp and not much of s choice had an omelet to order which was hot but everything else was brutally cold must be nice in the summer but also oh yes the bathrooms were atrocious!!!! Had some music live band best part of am.. also way off the Beaton path!!!

Good food - poor management

By Chris W |

We visited Gallow Green in early September to have a 'pre dinner' before seeing their amazing "Sleep No More" production. The food was quite good - though not memorable - and yes its potentially fun and funky and the whole McKittrick Hotel concept is incredibly brave - but what irked at this place was the staff. Not that they were rude. For starters there where far too many of them often hanging round the bar like mosquitoes. The three floor supervisors, the ones with the headsets stood nattering together for minutes at a time regaling each other with stories and laughing away. Other staff also stood around the bar not doing to much, one of the wait staff obviously flirting with another did nothing but serve a tray with three drinks on it for the whole hour and a bit that we were there. Readers of my other reviews will know that I am usually very complimentary. But on this occasion I was glad that I wasn't paying the wage bill and sad to see such a great concept being pooly served.

roof top

By dawn m |

our adventure for this trip was roof top, this place was very nice. but its for the 20-30's the bar was at least 5 younglings in front, on a sunday. i want to go back there because there was a human harlequin close to the elevator that was waiting for the dinner show. intrigued want to go back and check that out. where white (i observed for the show)

Poor, cancelled reservation

By JJ123 |

Had this booked tonight - 27/12. Less than 4 hours before the reservation was due, they called me and cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances. They wouldn’t tell me what the unforeseen circumstances were. Weather was fine, I suspect they received a better booking. I booked this for my partner and I for what was supposed to be a very special evening to remember. Don’t worry, they offered me a reservation 2 weeks later! Not much good when you are on a 1 week holiday! Bottom line: probably a nice place but your reservations are worthless so even if you do plan a special evening here, there is a good chance you won’t get a spot and you probably wont get another reservation!

Great rooftop bar reminiscent of the 20s

By Justin T |

Beautiful rooftop with ample foliage, classic cocktails and a scene that takes you back to simpler times. Cocktails are a bit pricey but the experience is worth it.

Good Drinks and Nice Space

By worldmaps |

Good alcoholic beverages - nice flavors and variety of options. Nice rooftop - nice atmosphere and ample space. Plenty restrooms - no waiting in line for all the customers this place can accommodate.

Love it so much I went twice!

By Mariane L |

We just loved it! First we went in the evening and really enjoyed it because it is more hip and less fancy than the other rooftops in New York, we felt like it is preferred by locals and no so much tourists, which to us was nice. We went back the next morning for a Saturday brunch and I totally recommend it! The food was great, the band, the service!

Amazing place, average food

Great experience! Wonderful staff! Amazing ambiance. Awesome music. Beautiful. Just improve the food.

A lush garden oasis with decent food

By Travellin’ Veg |

Entering this rooftop restaurant on the McKittrick Hotel feels like you've arrived in a lush, green oasis. Our group was surprised as we walked across simulated rail tracks and made our way to a table inside a hollowed out rail car. We arrived in time for the sun to set and for the twinkling lights of the restaurant to glow at night. This venue is a memorable experience all around. The food was decent, although not blind-blowing. One of our friends observed that the meal reminded him of dinner theatre quality, which is fitting, because the restaurant is associated with the theatre in the building. That being said, I would visit this restaurant again.

Perfect before Sleep No More!

By Shaun M |

We had an excellent dinner at Gallow Green before visiting the McKittrick Hotel for Sleep No More. We happened to be there for NYC restaurant week, so we enjoyed the pre-fixe menu for $60. I got the cheese curds and Scottish Salmon. Both were delicious! The salmon was cooked perfectly and paired with a creamy tahini and fresh vegetables. I finished with the chocolate mousse (absolutely divine!) and a frozen espresso martini. My friend had the heirloom salad (I tried and it was so refreshing!), the Buddha Bowl, and the orange panna cotta. The rooftop is very aesthetically pleasing. It makes a great setting for a meal. The server seemed like he just got broken up with or received bad news before we sat - he wasn’t particularly joyful or friendly. Overall, though, we had a wonderful visit and we’d happily go back again.

Busy but cool experience

By spicemom3 |

I went with a friend for an 'outdoor rooftop' experience during our visit in NYC. Gallow Green was so unique with it's gardens and barn-like atmosphere at the top of the city. It's communal seating, so you may be at a long table with at least 6 others. Not a place to go and chat - but it was still pretty fun. The 6 women beside us were there for a BDay. They were all Mom's with babies. The two of us in our 50's just took it all in. We enjoyed our wine and snacks and the beautiful breeze blowing through the lace curtains and the evening lights. Such a unique and good experience. So glad we came. Cheers.

Great Ambience

By HindaSweet |

I went to Gallow Green for the first time and met friends there for dinner. It is an absolutely enchanting environment filled with a rustic garden vibe. It seemed to be frequented by actual New Yorkers, mainly a younger crowd but that's inconsequential. I found the staff to be friendly and accommodating, the food was simple but good. We had nice, fresh thin crust pizzas. We also ordered the Nutella Calzone. It was all right but would have been way better with more Nutella. Drinks were pricey. I would definitely return for another beautiful summer evening at Gallow Green.

Dinner after sleep no more...

By FrequentFlyer_isr |

I ate dinner right after the Sleep No More... The asparagus was great and though the steak was a bit raw it was a good quality beef and overall it was nice. They also had an IPA beer which is cool... Nice place to eat after the show

Very dark

By lomaro |

The restaurant looks amazing as you enter, but for some reason they insisted on turning the light so low I had to turn the flash light on my phone to see my food. At least they didn't turn the light off before we had looked at the menu otherwise it would have been to dark to order. We booked a table because we had tickets to Sleep no More and wanted to be close by and the place looked great online. The food is quite average and you aren't especially made to feel welcome. I orderd a pizza - it might as well have come out of a frozen pacage. I stopped eating before I was full and it didn't call for dessert. My husband wanted to order more to drink but it was too dark for the waiters to see we tried to get in touch. So eventhough we had plenty of time before the show where we just sat there we had to order the bill when we finaly flagged some one down. Needles to say I wont be comming back. I won't be comming back.

Get Ready to Bus

By Pat F |

Gallow Green is a beautiful oasis in the middle of the Meatpacking District. As a native New Yorker I was surprised to find this gem. Everything about it was excellent--the food, the atmosphere, the music... but... Only one suggestion: Hire people to bus. By the time I had my third dinner plate on the table and the other two dirty ones (which I had stacked up) had not bee removed, I was getting pretty annoyed--and the table looked disgusting. Lo and behold! What did I spy but a bar behind me. So I just started to bus my and my friend's dirty plates to the bar. Finally someone woke up and picked up the dirty plates off the bar. Also, you will wait a long time for a drink--if the waiter remembers (which he did not). Now I see why so many people were getting up and getting their own drinks at the bar (not the one with the dirty plates).

Beautiful venue on a fall evening!

By dittovernon |

We loved being on the rooftop on a brisk fall evening. Beautifully decorated with lights and fall decor. We had a private area in the rail car and by the fire. Delicious appetizers, good beer and wine choices too. Would return again and again!

Great rooftop restaurant/bar, but go for drinks only

By SeeknParadise |

Had never heard of this spot until invited to a private brunch by a liqueur brand. Since everything was free, can't speak to the prices. The place is a beautiful with plenty of foliage and classic throwback to simpler times. Drinks were flowing and the service was superb, again, it was a private event by a top liqueur company so wouldn't expect anything less. Brunch food was ok, nothing really stellar though. Classic eggs, salads, bread, bacon. They also served fried chicken which looked incredible, but ho hum at best; completely let down. Read other reviews which comment on being expensive for what you get, which I can't really comment on. A cool place but doubt anywhere I'm in a rush to visit again. And definitely would not go for brunch, where the "food" is the focus. Go for the drinks and ambience and believe you won't be disappointed.

Fun atmosphere, quick eats.

Fun and funky restaurant to have a drink, a quick bite and enjoy the view. Food was just OK, but the atomosphere made up for it. We enjoyed our evening here.

Nice rooftop

By Narikawa |

Not a very tall building, but the rooftop at spring is really cozy and beautiful. There aren't many options for food, but it's a great place for drinks.

Fantastic Brunch, beautiful rooftop

By Alex |

We went here by recommendation and couldn't have been happier. The food was delicious, fresh and original. The staff attentive and quick. The atmosphere was amazing given the live swing music and all in all terrific location given the close proximity to the hugely popular high line. A glorious experience

Brunch on a rooftop

By RLV_0117 |

Such a delicious moment at the Gallow Green rooftop with a music band! Don't forget to book your table on the net, same site for the McKittrick Hotel if you want to have an immersive and inspiring experience with the show "Sleep no more". Really impressive! V

Lovely rooftop, great drinks

By marylovelltx |

This is an absolutely lovely rooftop spot. Be aware that it's very dark, and hard to read menus (even if they're on your phone). There are interesting craft cocktails and the apps (which is what we had prior to a show), were good. The presentation of the cruidites was outstanding (even if they were just vegetables). The dipping sauces were very blah. Other diners' dishes look quite good.

Best roof-top bar

By Mrs_Bettan |

Great place for a drink. We didn't try any food this time but we will be back! A bit crowded. Hard to find the door and way in - a bit of a dodgy street and a very special lift. However, the terrace and the drinks made up for it!

Wonderful Rooftop Experience

By Mario Hercegfi |

Together with my seven-year-old daughter, we spontaneously went to Gallow Green from the High Line on 4 September in the late afternoon because of the heat. With luck we also got a place to eat. The place itself is just gorgeous in the summer. The menu is not set up with classic dishes - one or the other might have a hard time with that. We were really taken with the quality. The price is definitely anything but cheap - we definitely think it's justified. However, it would be nice to have alternatives for children in the menu. A special shout-out to Claire - she delighted me and especially my daughter with her service! We would come back to the Gallow Green anytime just for her. We will definitely visit this great rooftop bar again next time we visit New York City. Greetings from germany. Mario

Overpriced and terrible brunch

By athom73 |

We paid $58.00 per person, which did include taxes and gratuities; however, this of was one of the worst brunches I've ever had. They had two small stations: cold which had some fresh fruit or berries and then three overdressed, soggy salads, some sliced tomatoes, or some smoked salmon. No accompaniments except creme fraiche. They also had some arugula with shaved Parmesan. No dressings. The hot station had fried chicken which wasn't crispy and reminded me of KFC original recipe, some grilled asparagus that were as thick as cucumbers, scrambled eggs that looked like egg beaters, bacon, pre cooked and piled high, and fingerling potatoes, That was it! No other entrees, vegetables. No desserts, either. Horrible waste of money.

Great set up

By Willa Day |

The set up of Gallow Green is amazing and for that reason worth the look. The food on the otherhand, is poor. Really bad selection for what is meant to be brunch. I went based on a review stating the food was so good. I paid for three of us which is way too much for the quality of food ($150!!) The staff were great and the entertainment was good. They just need to start over with the food and think about what they're offering and the cost.

An absolute oasis!

By happytravelerfromnva |

After a visit to Chelsea Market and a brief walk on the high line we had time to stop for a drink on Sunday afternoon. It was perfect. You would never imagine this place is in the middle of the city. You walk into a very dark entryway and go into an elevator which is operated by a staff person. When you exit the elevator you walk up one flight of stairs to the bar/restaurant. It is a garden with potted plants, small trees/arbors etc. The restaurant seating is covered but if you just are there for drinks, there is a walkway around the perimeter with several benches. You can see a sliver of the Hudson and the new "Hudson Yards" being built and perhaps some buildings you'd recognize, but go for the ambience. It is just cool. This was a Sunday and they had live music which added to the vibe, but there was also a $50/per person minimum at the restaurant. I do not know if there are minimums at other times. I have had better bloody marys, so maybe I'd try a glass of wine next time.

Uber cool cocktail bar on the roof

By Sausage19 |

I had heard about this bar from a chance meeting with someone who lives in New York and managed to find it from her description. On top of a hotel, this roof garden is open to the elements, so it's great for warmer months. On Sundays, they serve brunch which is a fixed price, with cocktails charged extra. We chose to take up this offer and there was a huge selection of food, from granola and yoghurt, french toast, fruits, fish, meats and salads and even a whole suckling pig, if you like that sort of thing! Our waiter Jonathan was great fun and very attentive and the cocktail were amazing - esepcially Sleep no More!

They should have a good B plan

By kitsoncat |

We went to Gallow Green today for brunch. One of our group made the reservation well in advance as we wanted something special -a roof top experience while visiting NYC -with family and close friends who we only get to see once a year due to living in different parts of the globe. Unfortunately the weather forecast for today was storms and oddles of rain. We were aware having checked the website that there aware no refunds available. But we were not too bothered as the website states that if weather is bad it will be moved "inside to the Heath". When we arrived, a couple of minutes before our reservation, we were told we were unable to go upstairs because there were leaks. We had to queue for around half an hour, to then find out that they have a cover they had place over the roof top. Unfortunately it couldn't cope with the rain and when we finally were taken to our table there were drips coming through the sheet, splashing members of our party. So we were moved tables. The food, although it was a fair spread, was all cold. It started spitting with rain again and the rain was blowing in on our backs as we were not adequately covered. I know it is not their fault it rained. But surely this is not the first time it has rained in NYC. When you charge the price we were charged, I expect the management to have a workable Plan B. Or offer a refund on advance bookings. My family member who had booked our was close to tears on leaving, because she was responsible for this part of our trip and it was our last day together. I'm sure it is a lovely atmosphere on a non rainy day. And the staff were all friendly. But would the food have been hot? I'm not convinced. There should have been a decent plan B for rain. It was a complete disappointment.

Great Garden Rooftop with Fantastic Mixed Drinks

By lmdbooking |

We stopped by for refreshing mixed drinks before our dinner. The place is so relaxing and beautiful with garden and flowers. The bartender is great with knowledge of different kinds of mixed drinks.

Fabulous rooftop bar with great cocktails...

By amarigallagher |

My husband & I stopped by for drinks after Sleep No More and throughly enjoyed the view, the cocktails and the staff. Our waiter was an absolute doll and I cannot wait to go back.

Major Disappointment

By LoverofGreatFood |

I go to NYC frequently and always seem to miss Gallow Green. Finally made it this week and was majorly disappointed. Beautiful atmosphere, but it stopped there. The drinks, food, and especially the service were dreadful. Bad bar food and tasteless drinks.

Rude staff

By Becky R |

Considering the price point and ambiance of this restaurant, I was pretty unimpressed to have staff visibly talk amongst themselves and laugh at me for asking if some things could be made vegan. The menu had one vegan option (a salad) and I simply asked if they could make a pizza without cheese. There are apparently no alterations allowed to the menu and it is also apparently hilarious to ask! Extremely unprofessional, especially somewhere with such a pretentious vibe. Will never be back and would not recommend.

Cute and nice vibe brunch buffet!

By thebeautifulguy |

Been here twice cause I love the vibe! I personally preferred when I went last Autumn when it’s a little bit colder! I had the brunch buffet which is $72 per person! Location: It is located in Chelsea near Highline. It’s outdoor rooftop seating which I love!! I prefer when I went last Autumn because it’s much colder, this summer is too hot! Lol there is a lot of plants that are instagram worthy! Service: they are super nice and attentive! They will assist you on how the buffet works. Food: Everything was delicious! It’s brunch buffet so there are assortments of breads, bagel, yogurt, spreads, salads, sweets. My personal favorite is their Carving station which includes the PORCHETTA: i love it, its a roast pork and the skin is so crispy! The meat is tender and flavorful. Another favorite is WHOLE SALMON: the salmon is so good and fresh! Flavored it well with seasoning! Mimosas were amazing too! Price rating: 8/10, it was not bad for food that you will get. $72 per person Definitely will come back here once it gets colder!! My fave is the carving station!

Trapped in the Gallows

By WhirldTravelr |

Pre-covid, Gallow Green had a very special sheen, elegant, artful and eager but not stuffy service and food that was good and presented well. Tonight's dinner was a complete disappointment. The spaces were dusty and dingy, and the actual eating area looked like a cheaply thrown together backyard tent you'd find in a suburban strip mall -- there was literally an animal hide that looked stapled to a shabby curtain (for ambiance?). The service was not even mediocre. It's always funny/sad to see waitstaff who act like they're somehow above the clientele. In finer places it's warranted, and comes from a pride of being there, working there, representing the establishment. From the receptionist who, Airpods on, didn't look up from his cell, to the waiter who disappeared again and again, to being placed near the restroom door, in an empty room. I know it's been a challenge to find people to fill positions in many corners of the work force, but oy! The food we ordered was terrible. Oh my god, beyond bad, stringy fish and chips, and picture this, a side of mashed potatoes served in a, wait for it, a skillet(!), for $10 that was literally, instant mashed potatoes with a trace of parmesan on it. My dining companion had a salad that looked like a bad Sweetgreen knock off, and at twice the price -- was that shredded cheese on top of the salad, the kind you'd use for a pizza?. Calamari was greasy in a very, very bad way. Maybe Gallow Green will find its footing again, but then again, who'd really want to step foot in it to find out? It's sweet to have nice memories, but there is no reward in trying to revisit by way of nostalgia in the dismal, cheerless fade of Gallow Green.

Rooftop drinking in New York City

By JustinMannolini |

My friend and I only stopped in briefly for a drink. A 20 minute wait downstairs before we were let up. The place was very crowded and there was nowhere to sit, so we stood to drink our over-priced craft beers. Still, on a sunny summers' day, it was a pleasant place for a drink before heading out, although I can't imagine staying for a meal.

Great rooftop bar

By DP710 |

One of my favourite NYC spots. It's crowded and full of preppy NYU grads but it's got a great chilled out vibe. Go early or else you'll be waiting in line for awhile.

Plush Garden in the City

By TravelMommy16 |

Gallow Green is a sweet, rustic, trendy without the snobbery restaurant on the rooftop of the McKittrick Hotel. I came here for brunch which is a simple but tasty buffet. Delicious cocktails and live music made this experience one I will be revisiting in the future! My only regret is missing Sleep No More on this trip but will definitely be back!! Prepayment tickets to brunch make the experience easy, and stress free. Staff was friendly. Atmosphere is a world away from the bustling city. Must try when in NYC!

Sad experience in our wedding day

By Alba N |

We do not want to go back to Gallow Garden. Worst experience on our wedding day. We loved going to Gallow Garden, whenever we wanted to celebrate something important we went there, it was very easy, we bought tickets online and you were going to enjoy your Brunch with good music. So with all the illusion we decided to celebrate our wedding brunch there; So was our lousy experience. We contacted the manager to reserve our table for 9 adults and 3 children under 5 years. After several unanswered emails, they tell us that the price per group is 80 $ per person and not $ 38 and that we can not book until one month before the wedding, they will contact us. We accept the conditions, arrive the week to book, they didn't contact us and we try to contact them but no answer and we decided to go in person to the premises because there was no way to be able to reserve by email. The manager greets us and apologizes and we reserve the table. We have to pay the total full of the Brunch to be able to reserve, that same day they charge us the wrong amount which was less, we contact them to notify their error and then is clarify with the right the total of the Reserved Brunch. When the day of the celebration arrives; in the reservation does not appear the 3 children, they accommodate us in a table and no chairs for children. At the end of the Brunch, they charged 12 people (children under 5 don't pay) when we were 9 adults and so they fixed it and say that everything is solved that we don't have to worry, and they give us the receipt of 9, we thought it was the summary of what we had already paid a Month before, but when we open our account and see that we have charged again the entire Brunch without authorization, so we were charged twice. After memorial weekend we went in person to talk to the managers to solve the mistake made by Gallow Garden. And with very bad taste, they do not let us enter the premises and took us in the street, saying that there is not a manager with whom we can speak, went the manager actually was upstairs. Only giving us a contact email. We do not understand how Gallow Garden communication works, but we believe that a place like this can not afford this treatment and this lack of professionalism and this accumulation of errors with its clients. Our reservation was something simple and we are very sad because they spoiled our wedding day, we lost a lot of time, we were too worried about something that had to be simple and fast and it has been a hell of a treat with the managers. We got an excellent treat from waiters, the food and the music. We are not demanding people and we understand the mistakes, we have never done a bad review, but this sad situation deserves to be known by future clients.

Three drinks

By Daniel B |

Is all it took for my wife to get very ill. Three drinks. Something you were using must not have been fresh because in 10 years I haven't seen her this bad after three drinks. Three!

Love the ambiance and drinks

By Pamela A |

I have always heard this place was incredible and loved it! Great place with good ambiance and cocktails. The cocktails are not cheap but what is in this city?! Definitely want to return before summer ends!

Waitress complained about our tip

By GC1990 |

Really loved the place until the end when the waitress had the cheek to come to our group of 3 and complain about the size of tip that we left. I found that incredibly rude, giving the expensive prices of the place, we left around a 10% tip, but then the waitress came and complained that she expects up to 20% , tipping is not mandatory so they should be grateful for any tips received, to be honest we regretted giving her any tip at all after that

Gorgeous place for sunset drinks and dinner

By vegaslamb |

We only came for drinks before dinner but we loved it. The place is gorgeous and the weather when we went was perfect for sunset drinks on the roof. The staff was friendly and helpful and the bartender was making unusual cocktails that were delicious. This was before dinner at The Heath and seeing Sleep No More. It was a full evening. I would definitely go back just for drinks sometime.
