Breakfast and lunch by the Hampton Inn

By Suzanne C |

Easy in - easy out! Good made to order hot breakfast - great for carryout to next door hotel. Lunch was also very good! Fried cod, blackened catfish, club sandwich, mixed green salad....full service bar too! Big screen TVs - I bet happy hour is good! I'll try it next time.

What A Fun Time We Had !!

By Coleen B |

A friend and I were in NYC heading to theater--Just looking for a spot for a cocktail, WELL, Did We Get Lucky!! We sat at the bar--DAN & LAUREN took care of us--What a Delightful time we had with these two personable, well informed, friendly, gracious, Fun Bartenders! Cocktails top notch! Didn't eat, but saw tables being served and questioned patrons-They Were All Happy!! And this place serves Breakfast!! We'll certainly be back, Comfortable atmosphere, black "leather" booths around the walls , industrial lighting fixtures, which may sound "stark, But They Make it work into a comfy cozy kinda feel.

Lunch before the theatre

By jpuck11 |

Food very good but a bit expensive. Drinks were strong and very good. Good location for lunch or dinner before seeing a Broadway play.

OK After Theater

By Robert C |

We stopped here for an after theater meal. Nice place for pub grub late at night. We ordered sandwiches from a late night menu. The Chicken Club was chuck full of real chicken and the bacon was crisp. Typical New York size and prices.

Delicious breakfast!

By NoirCiel |

Gleason's Tavern is conveniently located in the Hotel Shocard where my husband and I stayed while visiting NYC for our first anniversary. We had breakfast there our first morning in the city. I had an omelette with asparagus, feta cheese, and wild mushrooms. My husband also had an omelette with feta mushrooms, and either bacon or sausage. Both omelettes came open face, and were accompanied by super crispy, FRESH potatoes. Breakfast was very, very good, as well as filling. But the best treat was the staff! Both of the servers working that morning were from Ireland, and I feel just awful that I can't remember their names. They were so incredibly friendly, and gave us a tip on a bar to visit while in the city. I definitely recommend Gleason's Tavern for breakfast!

Mediocre food in old school decor

By 31HomeGames |

While Gleason’s seems popular judging by the after work crowd, there was very little I found appealing about it. The decor feels very old school - dark lighting, dark wood, black vinyl seating, old pictures on the walls. Nothing modern about the ambiance at all. The food menu didn’t offer much variety and the food was mediocre. The sliders were not very interesting and the shepherds pie was probably one of the worst I’ve had in a long time. Very disappointing.

Don't go here

By Lori S |

We were greeted by a very rude waiter who seemed uninterested seating us or asking for our order. The atmosphere was dirty and sticky - no toilet paper in the bathroom and napkins on the toilet tank. The bartender could barely pour a beer from the tap and dropped more glasses than she served. All staff was completely unfriendly. We didn't have any food because we felt unwelcome, dirty and like we were bothering the staff. Just an awful experience.

Welcoming Pub

By TStylst590 |

Returning with a close friend to New York where we lived for a decade or more, our first stop for lunch was Gleason’s due to its proximity to our hotel. We were greeted with a smile and a warm handshake by Paul McVeigh—best way to have been welcomed back to Gotham City. We both had a very decent fish and chips with fresh Guinness. Paul surprised us with shots of Jameson’s after listening to our story... his gesture was heartwarming in more than one way. Thank You.

Hidden gem

Great bar just off Times Square. All staff very friendly, service and food great. Jordan, bar manager, is a great guy, keeps the banter going and makes you feel real welcome

GOOD FOOD - GOOD VIBE

By MandR50 |

Right next door to Hampton Inn. Good food and good vibe. Gets very busy from 5.00p.m. Close to Times Square and theatres.

Early dinner

By VAturtlelvr |

We were staying next door at the Hampton Inn and needed a quick early dinner. We were served right away by a pleasant waitress. My friend had the Shepherd's pie and I had the Build your own burger. Both were excellent. The prices were great for NYC. I would go back.

Great Choice for pre- (or post) shows in the Theater District

By Lawrence B |

This was our first visit to Gleason's Tavern. Located in the heart of the theatre district, it is a great choice for pre- or post-theatre. And, as we saw it is very popular with the young office crowd after work. We got there around 5:00 because our show started at 7:00. Business really picked up over the next hour, and, by the time we left - around 6:30 - the place was bustling. My wife and I shared a delicious guacamole and chips to start. She choice the fish and chips. I had a delicious home-made chicken pot pie. Oh, and I also had the Berry Tart with vanilla ice cream. Good food. Good service (our waiter was Johnny). Reasonable prices.

Good for pre-theater meal

By kib57 |

This is a good, convenient restaurant for a pre or post theater meal or drink. We had drinks and appetizers before a show. Good food and service.

Hidden Gem in the middle of the theater district

By 774Pat |

I read a very favorable review of Gleason's on Manhattan Sideways so we decided to check it out for lunch. It's relatively small but very nice inside. The bartender Lidia explained that the building was totally renovated a few years ago. They have a very extensive liquor selection, especially whisky and scotch, with many high end options. For lunch we had their homemade shepherds pie, which was delicious. The filling and the mashed potato topping were excellent. This is truly a hidden gem!

Solid Irish pub

By riverhouse103 |

I’m staying at the Hilton across the street. Was looking for something easy without too much fuss. I wandered over for dinner tonight. Gleason’s is a solid Irish pub. Great selection of Scotch and Irish whisky. All the Irish pub fare you would expect. I had the shepherd pie and it was good. This feels like it would be an easy “go to” if you’re close and can’t decide on a dinner spot.

Great cocktails and burgers

By Jackie W |

My colleague and I stumbled upon this gem last night! Our waiter was working alone and still did a phenomenal job!! Thank you!

Tasty. Basic

By PersnicketyTravelers |

Breakfast was good. Nothing fancy. Included in hotel package. Waitress was rude. Night time bar staff was AWESOME!! Super friendly.

Average (at best) food, poor service

By Garth S |

My daughter and I stopped by after a play. Took 10 min to have waitress ask us if we wanted to order or if we wanted a drink. Beer was fine, but my daughter’s burger was over cooked and both of our French fries were stale. Unfortunately, the waitress didn’t come back to see if we needed anything or ask how our food was until we were done. There are many more restaurants in the area with far better service and food for the money.

Amazing!!!

By Allyson C |

Went here before a concert at MSG for dinner and drinks! First off I love the atmosphere and design of the place! Staff is super friendly and attentive! Food even better! From the all the apps to all the entrees nothing disappointed! Will definitely be back! Waitress was on top of keeping our drinks full which for me is always a sign of a great server! Overall a must go!!

Hidden gem.

By David O |

Fantastic food, great atmosphere. Enjoyed both breakfast and dinner. In the chaos of the area at the Holidays, Gleason's was a wonderful place to step out of the crowds and enjoy food and drinks.

Great Meal Before Theatre

By MJErrickson |

We wanted to get lunch before the theatre, and we were very pleased with our experience at Gleason's. The food was very good, service was spot-on, and the waitstaff was charming, We'll plan to return.

Lovely little bar!

By Janet K |

A little oasis of calm after all the hustle and bustle of Times Square! We were staying at the Hampton Inn on the same street so really convenient. Super service - really friendly. Good choice if drinks- they also do food.

Friendly manager

By tumblingshoals |

We stopped in this tavern which is in the Shocard Hotel for dinner. It has a sizeable bar and large screen TVs throughout tuned to sporting events. To our surprise the food was exceptionally good for tavern food. We both had Atlantic cod which came with a side dish of spicy eggplant. The fish was done to perfection and the eggplant was a very unique recipe. We spoke to the manager and he talked to the chef to tell us the ingredients used because we wanted to try the eggplant recipe at home.

Worst service ever

By stu s |

Went to have a quick dinner with a family member.. after 1/2 hour asked for a drink. After 1hr and 15 min asked for my food to go. I’ve never walked out of a restaurant in my life without eating first.. worst service ever!!!

Nice lunch

By BigTA |

We just jumped in here for soup and a salad after checking in to the Hotel Shocard, which it is attached to. Tomato soup and an arugula salad with cantaloupe. It was fine. Service was great. Nice atmosphere.

Great Dinner

By Naples72 |

This is a great go to spot near several hotels. Staff was nice, restaurant clean. Food was served quickly but we weren't rushed to finish and move along. If eating before heading out for a show or event just ask for check when food comes to table. Bar and restaurant filled up fast after we arrived. Nice mix of younger and older customers. Definitely recommend the Shepherds Pie, was very good and not drowning in gravy. Husband liked the chicken potpie and ordered a side of mashed potatoes and enjoyed that also.

The noise was deafening

By chicagotoots |

Went for a sitdown dinner...the food was good (burger/fries and BLAT sandwich (bacon,lettuce,avocado,tomato)/fries - excellent! Service was terrible...one waitress with too many tables..she seemed more willing to get the drinks $(13/glass of wine) then the food. We waited a long time to order and a long time for our bill. Couldnt talk over the noise at the bar area...it was not a great first night in the Big Apple.

Good, cosy and nice!

By elyelisaely1 |

I went there yesterday! The service was quick, nice and friendly! The food was good and the atmosphere nice! The place was strangely quite empty but i liked it!

Good Place for a Quick Theater Dinner or Drink

By Travel3Kids |

Nice little Irish pub near the theater district. We made reservations although we were not sure they had them when we arrived. Didn’t matter - they accommodated us easily. The food - especially the fish and chips - was very good and reasonably priced for the area. We ate here between the two Harry Potter shows and it was an easy walk and fast service.

Good food and drinks

By Ricardo L |

It was next to our Hotel and it was a good choice to go for a drink. The food was very good, people over there looked like hanging out after their jobs. Great place to drop by

Great food

By DMFAN2 |

Popped here after a long day out sightseeing. Menu is short and sweet but a great mix of things. I had the chicken pot pie, this was gorgeous, lots of chicken and vegetables in a white sauce with a puff pastry top. My son had the pulled pork sandwich with fries, he said it was really tasty. Shepherds pie was good and so were the steak and eggs my daughter had. Servers were great and really polite. Prices were ok, $108 for 4 meals and 4 soft drinks including service charge. All in all really good.

Great find!

By Leanne6021N113W |

Thank goodness for Gleason's Tavern! The only place to eat in midtown. We really struggled to find any where to eat in the area of Manhattan. Gleason's Tavern was a find! Great service, good food and a fab atmosphere If you are in Midtown head for 206 West 41st Street its the only decent place to eat in Midtown

Great Tavern!

By Steve D |

Great food/drinks, friendly staff, great location. The lemon ricotta pancakes are great for breakfast! They also have killer burgers!

Nice staff and food was great

By Robert K |

Loved the atmosphere and the service was indeed top notch. Food was awesome and I would definitely return when I come back

Wonderful surprise!

By Steelangel |

I only made a reservation here because it was right next to our theater. Open Table had lost our reservation but we were early enough that it didn’t matter. We had the best burgers that we’ve ever had with wonderful service!

A Sanctuary

By Joseph P |

A nice, handy bar with food close to the Port Authority building, in one of the last remaining truly seedy parts of Manhattan. But Gleason's is a sanctuary and a safe spot to duck out if you've missed your bus and have an hour to kill, or if you need a quiet break from the tourist madness of Times Square. The food's not bad, the service is friendly. Keep this place in the back of your mind and use as directed.

THE BEST...From a Gleason, I should know. I love this place. Great Vibe...nice staff

By Aaron G |

My new fave haunt in midtown. Chill, happy, friendly. Grown up. I will be making a stop here quite often to see my friends.

Breakfast was good

By mrsbondy |

We stayed in the hotel attached so we ate here everyday. The food is very good but the breakfast menu is small. I think we tried everything on it.

Pre-Theater Bite

By NorDeb1 |

Friendly, attentive service. Only had appetizers and a sandwich but they were good. One dish was way too salty to eat. The server quickly and graciously apologized and said it would not appear on the check.

Nice place, bad experience.

By Mariane L |

We were guests at the hotel and went in just for desserts, some wine and to watch the US open. We had to wait a lot before the waitress came to our table, but everything was fine until they switched the tennis match to a football match that was already on another TV. We asked if they could switch back, they said no, we argued that the football match was on 2 TV's and we would like to watch the US open, the only answer we got was "where are you from?". It was a pity because we would have come back since it was out hotel restaurant, but after that experience we decided not to.

Noisy restaurant and bar and decent food

By TXVicky |

We stopped in here before a show for drinks and a light dinner. It took a long time to get waited on. The noise level and crowds here is huge. We had a small table for 2 right next to a table on either side of us and could not hear each other. We had wine and shared a turkey club sandwich and fries. The sandwich was very large and was a typical club. The fries were cooked well. The wine was $14 a glass which is about average in NYC. If you want a quick drink or bite this is your place.

Good place for a drink

By Happy Traveler |

This is a small pub that serves food and is a decent place for a drink but very average on the food front. Better suited for a small group. Friendly service.

Good food, quaint pub

By Lisa W |

Atmosphere was nice, food was ok, waitress wasn't so great...brought us the wrong meal...had Ace pear/apple cider, it was awesome!

Stop in for lunch

By mcmmom |

Neat little bar/ restaurant in the theatre district. Food was terrific! Wait staff was friendly and accommodating.

Hungry? This is the place to stop!

By waynemiller2600 |

Great food and resonable prices. Friendly and effecient staff! Really cool place to stop by after theater for a bite and a cocktail. Lively atmosphere1 Check it out!

The crowds miss this gem of great food

By Lena J |

Gleasons happen to be near our hotel. It has a long bar area and great food. We tried a few plates and ask were amazing. We also had their margarita..... I would return!

What a super brekfast and great service - a cut above the rest

By l0l66 |

We had breakfasts out 5 mornings in Manhattan midtown - the breakfast here was delicious - with a lovely choice of items, linen napkins, nice set up, spotlessly clean, lovely staff - it was a pity it was our last breakfast as we would have gone back.

Great Little Irish Bar

By Tina B |

Great service and close to our hotel for that before bed tipple. Food was also good, quite a small place but we always managed to find a table.

This is NEW YORK!

By Lorry WY |

HAPPY HOUR...BAR SNACKS...NOISE...QUICK SERVICE and BURGER BUILDERS. Gleasons has it all. We made a quick stop here after a matinee show and we were not disappointed. Non-stop chatter of the patrons ..TV on but nobody watching AND no cellphones (believe it or not) just conversation like it used to be.The Maryland Crab Cakes were good and went well with my Happy Hour Rose wine. The flatbread was tasty and the Trio Burgers satisfying. A smiling waitress and off we went after our NEW YORK stop.( One suggestion: please serve my wine in a wine glass not a tumbler. Thanks)

Great Irish Pub

By babapaka |

Great Irish Pub in the heart of midtown Manhattan. The service was terrific and very friendly and the food was good!

Rainy Evening---Though "Why Not?"

By ElectricianDad |

Having stayed at the adjacent Hampton Inn for four years in a row and walking by this Tavern many times, we decided to give it a try for dinner after walking back from a matinee at City Center in a dreary rain. We were tired and hungry, didn't want to go very far, and couldn't bear the thought of Schnipper's again so we visited Gleason's Tavern. It wasn't very crowded, but it was a little boisterous for just 6pm. We ordered the Shepherd's Pie--which obviously everyone puts their own spin on that recipe. The preceding side salad was delicious and a beautiful presentation. The Shepherd's Pie was interesting--not bad, but not scrumptious either. I wouldn't order it again. The desserts, however, were very tasty and a treat for the eyes as well as we tried a berry tart and a chocolate creation. Service was very good. I'd go back. I'd just skip the Shepherd's Pie.

Great little find!

By Veri K |

Needed a place for a quick bite and drink before the theatre and Gleason's was perfect! Nice wait staff and bartenders and the food was better quality than usual. My chicken cobb salad and my companion's burger were very nice dishes. I will return.

Has potential and conveniently located

By watts0925 |

My guess is that my opinion is based on the establishment having a bad night. It was crowded and unseasonably warm - actually uncomfortable - in the tavern - in December. It was understaffed - one waiter, one bartender, and one runner bringing out the food. The first cocktail I ordered off the menu could not be made because they didn’t have the ingredients. The next cocktail came at the end of my meal, 45minutes later. Food was a bit bland (Shepard’s pie) too. However’ our server ( the one for the entire place), was polite and personable. In fact, he was calm - more than I could say about myself dealing with such a crowd. Not sure we will go again for dinner. Maybe we will try a lunch next and see how it goes at this very convenient location.

Great food

By michaelrichardst2016 |

Great food and good selection! Will definitely be eating here again. Great burger and good pasta Bolognese. Friendly waitstaff as well.

Great Turkey Burger

By likegoodfood21 |

Stayed at the Hilton Times Square overnight for business and found this watering hole on my way back after a nice walk around the city. Sat at the bar and was served by an excellent barkeep while enjoying the sports on the large screen TV's. Had a humus app with toasted pita points and a fabulous turkey burger with LTO. It was thick, yet moist and cooked to perfection. The shoestring fries were an added bonus accompaniment. I was consistently checked on to make sure that I had everything I needed. If you enjoy a good Turkey burger, this is your place. Definitely recommend

Excellent pub

By Mark B |

Staff really friendly, drinks served quickly with a great atmosphere. Really close to our hotel so spot on and open till 0400hrs. Also do breakfast and dimmer till 2300hrs. Would highly recommend.

Friendly Casual Dinner

By Debra B |

Great place to stop in for a cold Guiness to go with your Fish & Chips! Seriously friendly waitresses and bartenders. Casual Dining with great choices.

Fun bar next to the Nederlander Theater

By IDC637 |

Just happened to walk into this "small" bar because it was next to the Nerdetlander Theater in Broadway where I was going to see "War Paint" the musical and I was pleasantly surprised. It was packed with younger people and it was very loud. I managed to squeeze into a spot at the bar and ordered a drink and I paid for it right away since I wan't sure how long it would last. I guess I drank it faster than I expected then I ordered a second one (after 7:00 pm) and when I went to pay I notice that the same drink was $3 more and the crowd was not as large or as loud when I arrived around 6:30 pm. I did not ask the bartender since the drink price was OK even by NYC standards. I guess they must have a happy hour price. I did not have any food but saw people around me eating and when I left for the theater at 7:45 pm the place was still crowded and some people where eating. This was just a fun "find" which I will remember and when in the area wouldn't mind going back to it.

Amazing breakfast!

By gtfun |

We were looking for somewhere to grab breakfast before heading to the train. Gleason's did not disappoint. Everything was fresh and delicious!

nice

By JLM3080 |

popped in out the rain and thought I would have some lunch, good decision, nice location, good food with a strong 'Irish' theme, but not over the top. Prices good for location, and the place is clean and tidy, with the cleanest rest rooms I have seen for a long time. Certainly worth digging out.

Nice little bar

By ERIC W |

Stopped in for a few drinks and some appetizers. Guinness on draft was fabulous as was the giant pretzel. Bar tender was super helpful about telling us how to get tickets for Broadway. Place was packed. Good food and great service

Disappointed

By fdw62 |

The bar was clean and tidy, service was ok but the food was a huge let down, ordered steak and eggs. Steak cooked as I asked, medium rare but was stone cold as were the eggs, told waitress but she didn't seem bothered, Staying in hotel next door but will not be visiting again.

Upscale Casual Choice Near Times Square

By fluffnfold |

My spouse and I dined at Gleason’s Tavern for dinner on a Saturday evening in mid-July 2019. Gleason’s is open daily (and continuously) from 8:00 am to 2:00 am for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and drinks. Diners can book a spot using the online Open Table reservation system, although we arrived as walk-ins. Gleason’s Tavern is located on West 41st Street (between 8th and 7th Avenues) on the street level of the Hotel Shocard. Gleason’s is located next door to the Nederlander Theatre (and across the street from the stage door of the New Amsterdam Theatre), steps from the Hampton Inn Manhattan/Times Square Central, and across the street from the rear entrance of the Hilton Times Square. (We visited Gleason’s for an early dinner after attending a show at the Nederlander.) Although Gleason’s is located in the Times Square/Theatre District, we felt that the environment and the quality of the food and service exceeded the usual tourist restaurants in the area. Patrons can enter the restaurant either from the hotel lobby or directly from the street. A few tables are located near the front windows, with the majority of the seating located in the darker but pleasant rear space. A fifty-foot-long bar occupies one side of the main dining room, with regular-height tables positioned along the opposite wall (some of which share a black padded banquette on one side) and high-top tables occupying the center of the space. Black subway-tiled walls, a black-and-white tiled border around the bar base, Edison-bulb lighting, and black-and-white vintage NYC photos create a vintage look. Gleason’s Tavern serves upscale pub fare. We shared the shrimp dumplings (with a soy-citrus dipping sauce) as a starter, followed by the shepherds pie and the beef sliders (served with French fries) as our main dishes. For dessert, we tried the berry tart, served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. We enjoyed our dinner at Gleason’s Tavern; the food, atmosphere, and service created a pleasant experience.

A hidden gem

By Dorothy B |

We had theater tickets on a miserable rainy day. Found Gleason's through Trip Advisor and our party of 4 decided to try it. We were quickly seated in a quiet spot near the bar. Bartender was our waiter and he was fabulous. He was friendly, knowledge, and made an amazing Irish Coffee. Burgers were pronounced "the best I've ever eaten" by 3. I had the chicken club. Super tasty, sweet potato fries were really good. The dessert menu consisted of 3 items. 2 of us had the chocolate mousse cake with salted caramel ice cream, the other 2 ordered the cheesecake with berry champagne compote. The only thing that kept me from licking the plate was willpower, the mousse cake was that good. Our waiter didn't rush us, he knew we didn't want to head back out into the rain. They have lunch specials, and seemed to draw a lively happy hour crowd too. Highly recommended.

Great bartender

By KATHLEEN G |

My husband and I recently stayed at the Hampton Inn a few feet down from Gleason's Tavern. Jordan was our bartender the first evening we stopped in for a drink. What a nice guy! Pleasant, friendly and funny! Because of him we went back the next night. Jordan makes you feel like you are hanging out in your neighborhood pub!

Lucky to get a table.

By John D |

Supper before Nederlandr Theatre. The place was packed and alive, but we got a table. Service as ever in New York was quick and professional. Food was fine howbeit not exceptional. Loved the atmosphere. The musical War Paint was not my cup of tea. Great female leads, slickly done, but not memorable.

Good value in central location

By ladyholmes68 |

This bar was attached to the hotel we stayed in. Perfectly located just off times square, very good prices for the area. Barnus clean and tidy gets busy at times , lunch particularly busy but food lovely and very well Priced. Nice atmosphere. Recommend

Love this little Irish tavern

By Ziegpj |

On two recent trips to NYC we've stayed at the Hampton Inn on 41st Street, and just down the block have enjoyed this lovely little Irish tavern on several occasions. Very pleasant service, tasty food offerings, and welcoming surroundings. We've enjoyed their Shepherd's Pie, Fish & Chips, Reuben sandwich and "adult beverages." I know we'll be back!

Friendly bar in Times Square

By FRANK H |

We stopped in this bar during the Christmas holidays for lunch. The menu was somewhat limited. However, the atmosphere and service was exemplary. The music was superb. Great bar!!!

A Great Irish Pub

By Peg A |

We ate here before one of our Broadway Plays. I had the homemade chicken pot pie and my husband had the Shepherd Pie. Both were very good. The bar was very busy. The waiter was prompt and excellent. We’d definitely go back. Moderately priced!

nice pub

By Big Z |

the bartender pablo is a legend. Didnt order food so dont know how that is but defintley worth a visit for a drink in the evening

Nice atmosphere

By GrandeSanJuan |

We went for drinks before the theater. Had some drinks and finger food which was pretty good. The atmosphere is great. You feel like you are in a high class bar but the prices are competitive with any New York bar. Not bad

Great local place

By Wallacescottb |

If you’re looking for a small tavern to grab a drink that is close to all the commotion of Times Square but isn’t a “chain” then duck into Gleasons Tavern. It’s off 41st and is down the street from the Hilton. The drinks are great and the bartenders are nice and helpful. It’s a true tavern, dimly lit with our lots of booming club music.

Good bar and food

By soulboy9 |

Good bar and food a little pricey but not seedy like most of the places around times square. Great selection of beers. Seems to be Irish run (Like half of NY! :0)

Not very good

By Veronica T |

Had a reservation but didn’t need it as place was not busy. Would not have expected to wait sooooo long for a burger. Ordered it rare and got well done. Waitress just said “sorry”. I could t wait for another to be made because the first one room forever! Not that she offered to have it remade! Will not be returning. I guess this is why it was easy to get a reservation right after the show.

Good for a quick bite

By summerfish1971 |

Stopped by after arriving to the city on a Friday evening. After work crowd, easily got a table. Munchies and sandwiches were good. Service was quick and pleasant. It was a little loud and the bar was full by the time we completed dinner.

Pre-show dinner

By Shaun E |

Had dinner this past Thursday before seeing Pretty Woman. Very convenient since it’s directly next door to the Nederlander Theater. We had reservations for 4:30! And were seated right away. As an app we had the shrimp dumplings which were excellent. I had the build your own burger and my gf had the bean burger. Both were very very good. She ordered a Manhattan which was very strong so she couldn’t finish it and went with wine I had two beers and the bill came to around $100 which is to be expected. It is a bit cramped but the atmosphere was nice and the service was quick and attentive. Absolutely a good call if you are seeing a show nearby.

Unexpected Pleasure

By 346barney |

We came across this Irish bar early evening on a busy Saturday evening and booked a table for later in the evening, the bar staff reserved a meal for my wife at the time as vegetarian meals are scarce in New York. Great food a well stocked bar and superb service from Anna and Chris. A great find.

Great Find

By king97s88 |

We found this place whilst exploring on our first evening in NYC. As total newbies we had no idea where to go but found Gleason's and we were not disappointed. We both had burgers and they were great. The food was hot, fresh and flavoursome. The bar had a great selection of drinks and we would have loved to have stayed longer had we not been so tired and jet lagged! Great place of a meal and a few drinks.

Mouthwatering food

By YoungThornton |

Dined here in the pub New Year’s Eve. Gorgeous food. Fast service. American style cheese cake yum. Had the wings to start which were a big size , fish and chips which were equally well Portioned and yum. An Irish waitress very friendly and approachable.

Great burgers!

By brookeylyn |

After a day of walking, we wanted a place to relax, eat, and have a drink. This was next to our hotel, had great burgers and very friendly staff. Very attentive....until the bar got swamped as our waiter was doing it all. Didn't have a touristy feel which was nice.

Didn’t bother!

By Maggie C |

We were waiting for the hostess when a patron came rushing past us and told us that they were served curdled milk and given attitude by the waitress when they complained!!! We left right after that! Very disappointing!!!😞

Great Saturday night with friends.

By Victor M |

Excellent meal with great friendly service. We got there an hour early for our reservation, but they accommodated us without issue and we had a great time. We were a party of nine but they never pushed us out despite it being Saturday night in the theatre district.

Friendly, good food, plenty of drinks

By Nickmorgan87 |

Visited here by chance on Saturday evening while on a day trip in Manhattan, we were standing in line at the lobster place round the corner and saw this place, looked quiet and we were in a rush. Friendly manager (I assume) greeted us, showed us to our table and was very chatty. Seem genuinely pleased we had come, and interested in us. The waiter wasn't the best, he seem very inexperienced and came across as quite shy and spoke so softly we had to get him to repeat himself a few times. He forgot to ask us how we wanted our steaks, and come back 5 mins after ordering to check, but then also got our drinks our wrong too. This was rectified by the manager as soon as we made him aware, and he apologised. The waiter never made mention of the mistake in his future visits which seemed strange. The food was great, lovely steak, great mash (just could of done with a little more mashing), and the red wine jus was great. The bar area and seating area are very close but not over bearing, very modern and stylish. Would recommended, and in time I'm sure the staff will get better.

A friendly spot in the theatre distr6

By Ken B |

Whether seeing a show or just looking for a friendly, fun spot check out Gleason's. And ask for Rachel. Top notch.

So noisy!!

By katy8 |

Wow, this is a very noisy bar! It’s quite small, tunnel like, dark, low ceilings, old dark wood interior, old banquette seating and high stools. But everyone here tonight seems to be incapable of speaking at normal volume. A couple of large groups seem very overexcited, all conversation at screeching level. Anyway, the drinks were ok, the food was just meh, 50 dollars for 2 drinks and 2 snacky things. Personally i’d give this a miss, but maybe it’s an age thing....

Close to the Nederlander Theater

By Gloria M |

We went to lunch here because it was close to the Nederlander Theater. We were 11 people. The waiter said he could not do couple's bills so everything was on one bill. We are from New Jersey where that is never a problem. Unfortunately, everybody has a different price point so it took quite a while to figure out the bill. Some had a budget so we could not divide the bill in 11. The restaurant is nice just like a tavern and very clean. It is noisy though and you could hear the conversations between the female bartender and the customer sitting at the bar. The bartender spoke loudly. The food came and I ordered fish and chips which was delicious. You could change the type of fries from spicy, regular and sweet. That was a perk. My food was very hot the way I like it and considering that we were 11 that was a great surprise. Most had sandwiches of all kinds. Everyone liked what they ordered and were satisfied with their choice. It is designed like a tavern with lots of wood and TV's. We all got our lunches in plenty of time to get to the show line. It is a relatively small place. Everyone's order came out with no mistakes. The waiter was friendly and tried to accommodate everyone successfully. The prices were very good. You should go.

OK lunch for on the go

Our first stop for food because it was next door to hotel. Food was fine - nothing awesome. Waitress was friendly and timely. The drinks were not good, so still with beer or wine.

Beautiful

Libations shall set you free

By Robert G |

Great tavern small footprint on 41st but it goes way back into the building and has a great bar and staff. This is somewhere that you can come and have a few drinks with your friends outside the madness of Times Square.

Nice Bar

By Richard F |

We stayed in a Hampton Inn next door. Cozy and low lit. Small menu good food. Nice crowd and next to a Theater.

Over priced, weak drinks

By Nbug23 |

The name of this Tavern reminded me of Jackie Gleason. I thought it would be a great hole in the wall and the reviews I read led me to believe it was a great bar...WRONG. We got there around 9:00 p.m. on a Sunday night and was excited to see they boasted of a "late" happy hour. When we asked the times of the happy hour we were told it started at midnight. Well that was not going to be any help. My husband and myself ordered a double tall Crown and 7. To my surprise the BARTENDER was not familiar with Crown, what?? After we pointed it out we watched him pour it ever so carefully with his shot measuring glass. All we could taste was 7. We expressed, respectfully we were displeased with the weak drink and he said he would add more Crown (measured once again). The drink was ok, but cost $24 a piece. Needless to say, we paid our bill and got out of there. Major disappointment.

Perfect Lunch spot around corner from Time Square

By XJRag |

Stayed at Hampton overnight after matinee and dinner, past by on first day and hesitated, should not have as next day before heading to the train station we decided to try it and was pleasantly surprised. Ten dollar lunch specials of Chicken Salad and the bangers and mash were great, Even though the tables were full (but room at the bar) the acoustics were great for conversation.

Great Wine Bar at the end of the High Line Walk

By Sarah G |

Having walked the length of the High Line (in itself a great experience) it is lovely to come down to Chelsea Market and find Gleason's Tavern. Very friendly service, and good - and not very expensive - wine. We sat and enjoyed the atmosphere and chatted to a couple of friendly people at the bar. This is my second visit, the first being with my daughter 4 years' ago, and I was not disappointed to bring my husband this time. (Sometimes return visits can be disappointing). I recommend a refreshing glass and/or a meal at this Tavern.

Friday night visit

By IndyTraveler46236 |

I like the layout of the bar They had very good calamari I would prefer to have Coors light but they did have some good wine But only around 30 people in there and it was very noisy I think they need to look through acoustics. Not many was just over whelming. We attempted to talk to people across the table from you maybe it’s high ceilings a balance of it I’m not and expert but it was his two noisy I need to check the ceilings on the acoustics or something Fine wait staff.

Great place to visit before or after a Broadway Show

By The Wandering Reviewer |

You can walk around New York looking for a great meal and sometimes it’s right on front of your eyes. We are staying at The Shocard Hotel and next door is the Gleason’s Tavern. Feeling tired and a little lazy, we checked out the menu online and decided this is just what we needed. My partner had the cheeseburger and I had the buffalo wings (appetiser). Along with a margarita and sangria - it turned out to be a delicious meal. Portion size was good and food fresh and tasty. Staff were exceptional and very attentive. If you’re seeing a show two doors down, this is the place for a before or after show dinner / snack. Great bar atmosphere and the music playlist continually had me singing along. Thanks team Gleason’s.

SUPER PLACE!

By tilly96 |

A group of 4 of us stopped by Gleason's Tavern last weekend to grab a beer or two and stayed for food after seeing plates of food been delivered to other tables! Staff were attentive and friendly, an the brass bar which is about 50 ft long is amazing!! This place is the real deal - we met the owner that night who informed us, this place opened up in the last few weeks - a real gem in the heart of Times Square!! The food, drinks atmosphere was faultless - we all agreed we will be back!

Nice Dinner

By Herbert C |

My wife and I had dinner here when staying at the Hampton Inn nearby. As the name implies it is an upscale tavern. It seems to be primarily a lunch and before-the-show restaurant. The food was good and moderately priced for NYC. The service was reasonably fast and attentive.

Great Hotel Bar

By Celeste A |

Gleason's is the in house restaurant for the Hotel Shocard. We stayed there so that's how I found it. Was glad we Did! The bartenders are friendly and fun, wait staff too! Menu accommodated the the picky eaters the were along! Great beer and whiskey selection. Would not have found this restaurant with out staying at the hotel which is a shame because it is a good one!

What a great little cozy bar very reasonable prices the bartender's especially friendly the great food and a great location steps away from Times Square

Breakfast

By LisaMK90 |

Lower price but you get what you pay for I guess. Open faced omelet was bland with the cheese clumped in one spot on top. French toast with fruit was just jam spread on top. Clean though. Service was ok.

Hidden gem!!

By Jennifer K |

This place is absolutely great for multiple things... a quick business lunch, a happy hour drink, etc. This weekend I added a new item to the list of things that makes this place great - I was nearby for a Broadway show (matinee) and there was a protest going on; the city was CRAZY yet Gleason's Tavern was just barely busy, so we were able to sit at a table for 4 without a reservation and eat in peace and quiet before our show. a few more people/tables did trickle in, so by the time we left it was pretty busy, but it was so nice to know it was near the theater district and wouldn't be too busy as its labeled a "bar" on google maps... its much more than a bar!! i would highly recommend this place. even though it is a tavern, the food is delicious and restaurant quality -- i always get the niçoise salad and love it every time!!

Cute local tavern!

By Sulli |

Steps from our hotel, Gleasons was our first stop in NYC! Paul served up cold beer and provided a list of his favorite bars in NYC! Just like that we had a custom pub crawl in NYC! Too much fun!

Lunch

By Grabham36 |

We were sent to Gleason’s by our hotel concierges as it was very near the hotel and it was raining. The tavern was nearly empty when we arrived. A bartender and a waitress was working. We ordered and had drinks delivered promptly. It seemed to be a longer than average wait on our food. I had a chef salad that was good but lacking enough dressing so I requested more and I was nearly done eating before it was delivered. The turkey burger that one of our party ordered was tasty and juicy. The other two had club sandwiches which were large and very good. I think that service was slow because they were under staffed.

Fun Ambiance and Good Pub Food

By Susan E |

Located a few steps from Hampton Inn Time Square Central, my friend and I popped in here for dinner because it was pouring rain. What a great choice in any weather for any reason! The ambiance was fun and friendly. The wait staff & bartenders knew many regulars but also made conversation with tourists. The menu offered traditional pub fare at reasonable prices. My choice was a BLT with avocado slices. This is a great stop for lunch, dinner, a drink or a snack.

Great for breakfast!

By moran1616 |

When we were here, all items on the breakfast menu were $10. Good quality and a nice quantity to satisfy us. Quiet. Excellent service.

Great breakfast

By gamevod |

Refugee from overcrowded breakfast at the Hampton next door. Passed Gleason's on the way to the subway and saw they had breakfast. It was most excellent. So tried it a second day and it was still excellent. Delish French toast.

Amazing staff and atmosphere

By Cheryl-Leanne84 |

So I must start with the staff..... wow! Amazing always you made time in New York so much better. Made me laugh and smile. Lovely bunch of friendly people. Drinks - not over prices for time square compared to most places. Food- lovely food and there’s offers on some times of the day so we’ll worth a visit. Again not overpriced. If your after watching abit of sport while in New York there screen all around the bar. You’d be crazy not to give here a visit.

Pleasant surprise

By MyFlag95 |

We had tickets to see War Paint and needed a place to have dinner. My cousin does not like Red Lobster so we went to Gleason's. Nice wait staff. Good food. If you go get the chocolate cake with the salted ice cream. Yeah, I know does not sound as if it goes together, but it does. We laughed and said that next time we START with dessert and get two instead of splitting one.

OK for a Drink

By Pete A |

We stopped in for a cocktail after dinner one evening. We noticed it was very loud, as bars can be, but so loud that people were shouting at each other to talk. Unfortunately for us, we were near three people who had no mind for public language constraints. The service was good and the price is what you would expect for a bar in lower Manhattan.

Great Neighborhood Pub

By asteinharter |

Gleason's is right next door to our hotel so we made arrangements to meet an old friend we haven't seen in 56 years. What a great choice of a place to meet. They have a wonderful breakfast menu and the service is just fine. Warm and comfortable, Gleason's would be good for lunch or dinner too. Not to mention the bar.

Ok Food in a Noisy Environment

By Glenn L |

Well, we should have known better with the the word "tavern" in the name. We thought we were going to a restaurant...they had a menu on a sandwich board out front. When we walked in there was a long bar, but we were shown to a table, so we still didn't get the hint. My wife and I had been wandering around looking for a place to eat before seeing a Broadway musical. We hit upon this place by chance (with no recommendations from anyone). We arrived a bit before 6 pm and the place had only a few people in it. We ordered three appetizers: mushroom flatbread, fried calamari, and sliders. The food was just barely ok. the calamari was slightly undercooked (not crispy enough), the slider buns were a little dry, and the flatbread appeared to have been commercially pre-prepared, defrosted, and the topping added. But, before the food could arrive more people began arriving and the place got very noisy. Impossible to talk and almost painful to bear. We ate what we could (the servings were large) and got out as quickly as we could to get out of the noise. The dinner and one drink was $55 before tip.

lunch before a show which was right next door

By Stay759578 |

excellent service convenient location to theater food was good quick in and out but nt rushed in anyway, wait staff came over several times making sure everything was good

Great stop before or after a show

By jaxtraveler28 |

We stopped here randomly for a quick drink and a bite to eat. The wild mushroom flatbread was delicious and the staff was friendly. We enjoyed it enough that we went back later that day before our show at the Nederlander theater (and the bartender even remembered our drink choice!)

Very Good!

By annessy1 |

We stopped here back in February. Very cozy place. My son had the fish and chips, which were excellent. We also had the Ploughman Platter, which was also very good. Only thing keeping this from a five star review was the server. While she may have been relatively new, she was very slow and seemed to be more interested in chatting with her co-workers than keeping her tables happy.

Not too good

By maddie924 |

Went here because it was next to our theater and therefore convenient. Typical pub because it was very loud and crowded but not typical because the food was very mediocre. Started out that they didn't have the scotch that I wanted (??) nor did they have any Diet Coke/Pepsi (??). Also didn't have any ranch dressing for my salad which wasn't very good anyway. Chicken pot pie wasn't too bad nor was the egg sandwich. Service was ok but in light of the bar crowd it was better than expected. Would not return.

average pub

By Carol W |

average pub fare...close to our hotel....a little on the expensive side but OK for a drink on the way home from the theatre

Small Tavern at 7th and 41st

By luvtravel88 |

This was a small tavern attached to the Hotel Shocard. The menu was varied and the portions were good sizes. Pricing was average for NYC. Service was not very attentive and the restaurant wasn't full. The biggest drawback was the noise. The restaurant is long and narrow and the sound vibrates off the walls and floor. It was very difficult to talk to others at the table.

Fortunate with our first meal in NYC

By Larry C |

We were doing the "tourist thing" on our first day in New York when we needed a late lunch. Saw a sign on 7th avenue pointing down a side street. Checked out the menu outside the door and decided to venture in. It is a cosy well-appointed space. A warm greeting and seated promptly. Guinness draft was poured well. My black bean burger was very good with the accompanying pickled onion, arugula and excellent french fries. My wife had the shepherds pie - good - but not the usual as it had quite a bit of spice. Prices were reasonable for NYC (but provided sticker shock for someone from a small Canadian city). If in the area again, we would definitely revisit.

Perfect getaway from Times Square

By Wallacescottb |

We spent a week at the Hilton Times Square and Gleason’s is less than minute walk away down 41st. It is a quiet little bar that never seems to be crowded but isn’t dead either. It allows you to escape or the crowds of Times Square and disappear into the comforts of Gleason’s. Lydia was our bartender and she immediately made us fell at ease with excellent service and great drinks. Their cucumber/gin drink was phenomenal and the chicken wings were very delicious.

Take out on New Year's eve

By D Moods |

We were not left with many dining options with Times Square being on lockdown for New Year's eve. Fortunately Gleasons is right next door to our hotel. I initially went to get some type of "beverage" to warm me up from the freezing minus 12 temp outside. I discovered a menu that would cater for most people once inside. Take out was not a problem seeing that my family refused to leave the warm hotel room. Who would blame them with New York experiencing one of the coldest winters for decades. My order was taken by a friendly staff member and the food was prepared and packed as I ordered in around 15 to 20 min. Quality is very good. Crispy battered fish and chips. Crunchy sesame coated chicken wings. Good cheese burger. Not a bad place to stumble across.

A great afternoon!

By ianshamshey |

I recently me a group of friends to see a show and afterwards, we had dinner at Gleason's Tavern. We had reserved since we were a large group so we were seated immediately. After getting settled, our drink orders were taken and we began to look over the menu. Most of us ordered burgers. I got mine medium well with lettuce, onion, pickles and I also got American cheese and bacon. The burger was great! It was a good meal and I would recommend. It is a convenient spot, not far from Port Authority and close enough to Penn Station.

Pre Theatre drink

By Keith C |

Visited this bar purporting to be Irish , next Nederlander Theatre 41 street . You expect to pay more in NY but $30.45 including tax for 2 small glasses of wine served in a tumbler is a rip off . We then had the cheek to sit down and were asked to stand up again as they wanted the table to serve food . As a Scotsman this bar was no more Irish than I am English a welsh man would not even pay these prices , best avoided .

Brand new!

By A.Lyons |

What a neat spot!!! Only been open about a month. Stumbled in after walking through the mall across from art museum. Adam was so welcoming and personable! The chicken pot pie was one of the best real flaky crust wings spot on the salad fresh and the dressing delightful! Lots of beer choices!! Try it out Good luck GLEASON’S

Great aftershow place

By eileen c |

We went to see Pretty Woman on Broadway (fantastic show, BTW) and went right next door to Gleason's Tavern. Our lovely waiter was Irish and charming and the food and drinks were great. We had chicken Saltimbocca, Ceasar salad with grilled chicken and Philly chessesteak sandwich. We also had some lovely cocktails and the prices were really good for NYC. We left full and happy! I would definitely come back.
